Davante Adams

PositiveRole0:00

Adams is an incredible weapon inside the 10-yard line; the Rams exposed defenses repeatedly with this role last year. His target-per-route-run rate was seventh highest in the NFL last year. When he and Puka Nacua are on the field together running routes, targets go to both at high rates. The Rams lack a legitimate wide receiver three behind Adams and Nacua, so when both are on the field, it's primarily these two getting targets. The source is a fan of drafting Adams as a veteran wide receiver option in the middle rounds. However, Adams' yardage projection is not very high, especially relative to Nacua, and the source does not expect Adams to be the primary receiver in Los Angeles this year—Puka is by far and away the clear one in the Rams receiving hierarchy.

Puka Nacua

PositiveRole0:16

Puka Nacua is by far and away the clear primary receiver in the Rams offense. When he and Davante Adams are on the field together running routes, targets go to both at high rates, with both in the top seven in target-per-route-run rate last year, but Nacua is the established clear one in the hierarchy.

0:00Doesn't take a genius or a rocket
0:01scientist to understand like Devonte
0:03Adams, incredible weapon inside the 10
0:05yard line. We saw them expose defenses
0:07last year doing this over and over and
0:08over and over and over again. Do I think
0:10it's a good bet? No. Like it's not
0:11something that I would necessarily take,
0:12but they're clearly still leaning into
0:14this mold here. And his yardage line is
0:16not very high, especially not relative
0:17to Puka. And it doesn't lend itself to
0:19saying like, oh, Dvonte could be like
0:21the one this year in Los Angeles where
0:22there was a subgroup of people that were
0:24in that camp last year were like, oh,
0:26Adams could be the one. It's going to
0:27hurt Puka. I was not one of those guys.
0:29Like I think Puka is by far and away the
0:30clear one there. But I do think Dvonte
0:32Adams, similar to what I just said with
0:34Javvante, they added nothing to that
0:35receiver room. They don't have a legit
0:37wide receiver three behind Dvont and
0:39Puka Nua. And last year when Devonte was
0:42running routes, he was getting targeted
0:43at an insane basis. He was getting
0:45targeted at the seventh highest rate in
0:46the NFL last year. So target per route
0:48run rate, he was top seven. It was him
0:50and Puka were both in the top seven. So
0:51when them two were on the field
0:52together, it's just them two getting
0:54targets. Like yes, the Rams in
0:56specialized areas of the field utilize
0:57two tight ends and three tight ends and
0:59and running back dump offs quite often,
1:01but those are more special plays. Like
1:02when they're on the field and running
1:03routes, which is really only going to be
1:04Dvonte and Pukanua together, it's going
1:07to Dvonte over and over and over and
1:09over again. So, I'm a fan of drafting
1:11one of these like veteran wide receivers
1:12in the middle rounds, whether it's
1:13Devonte Adams or Mike Evans or Terry a
1:16little later,
