0:00Drafting out of the 101 can be a little
0:02bit of a poison chalice in fantasy
0:04football. We've got it set up here on
0:05Flock Fantasy. I'm going to show you
0:06guys my strategy for drafting out of the
0:09101 this year if you drew that spot in
0:11your league. I am going to take Jahmyr
0:13Gibbs 101 over Bijan Robinson. I think
0:16that is sort of exceedingly clear this
0:19year in fantasy football. I think the
0:21Lions are going to be better on offense
0:23than the Falcons honestly by by quite a
0:24bit and I think the structural concerns
0:26there make that pretty easy. The
0:28two-three turn though, look at our
0:30options here. Rashee Rice, Trey McBride,
0:32Nico Collins, Breece Hall, Chris Olave,
0:35Javonte Williams. This is kind of using
0:37compounding ADP. I think the honestly
0:40the best structural move here is you do
0:42take Rashee Rice who I think in a
0:44redraft league is about as safe as it's
0:47going to get. You know that this guy is
0:49the wide receiver three in fantasy
0:51points per game over his last 20 games
0:53played. Maybe he ends up suspended.
0:55Maybe we're not loving it. And actually
0:57I'm going to do a strategy that I
0:59wouldn't do at very many draft slots,
1:01but we are going to take
1:03Nico Collins at this pick because the
1:05guys available to us at the four-five
1:07turn are generally speaking going to be
1:09running back options that we like. This
1:11builds us up a phenomenal base at wide
1:13receiver. We have two top 10 wide
1:15receivers in Rashee Rice and Nico
1:17Collins. Jahmyr Gibbs is our anchor and
1:19exactly what I said. We are going to
1:21take De'Andre Swift as our second
1:23running back and we now have so much
1:26floor built in with Gibbs and with
1:28Swift. We can take a swing. We could
1:30take TreVeyon Henderson. We could take
1:31Bucky Irving. I mean we could have even
1:33taken David Montgomery over De'Andre
1:36Swift. I'm going to go with my heart on
1:37this one and I'm going to select Byrce
1:39Young and C.J. Stroud, which is going to
1:40give us basically in this format which I
1:43set up, which is two running backs, two
1:45wide receivers, one tight end, and two
1:47flexes.
1:48We are going to feel very comfortable I
1:50think starting Byrce Young and C.J.
1:52Stroud in a given week in the flex. Now
1:55now we're in a tricky spot cuz do we
1:56want to take Tyler Warren? Do we want to
1:58set up an elite quarterback? I think the
2:00answer to both of those is no. Maybe I
2:02should have taken a wide receiver
2:04instead of Toutan, because the wide
2:05receivers here are quite thin. So, we're
2:08going to call a small audible. I I
2:10honestly don't think Tyler Warren um is
2:12like a mega jam here. I I think a lot of
2:15the times when you're drafting here, you
2:16would kind of be hoping that one of
2:18these wide receivers, Tyson, Lemon,
2:20Tate, someone like that, ends up falling
2:22to you. Let's just click on the wide
2:23receiver group here. Who is unlikely to
2:26come back to me of this group? I mean, I
2:28don't love Q.J., Metcalf, Addison,
2:30Sutton, or Pittman in every league as my
2:32wide receiver at three. You could
2:34certainly make an
2:37on maybe even someone like Parker
2:39Washington or Jayden Reed. We are going
2:41to take D.K. Metcalf, which gives us
2:43Gibbs Rice Collins Swift Toutan
2:46Warren, Metcalf. I mean, frankly, that
2:48is a pretty good starting lineup. We are
2:50going to be behind at quarterback most
2:52weeks, which is okay. There are going to
2:53be some high upside wide receivers for
2:55us to chase here. We end up getting,
2:57frankly, I I think fairly lucky at
3:00quarterback. Although, knowing that
3:02Harold Fannin and Kyle Pitts are here
3:04does make me think, "Hey, man, you
3:06probably should not have taken Tyler
3:07Warren at the at the 6-11." So, we're
3:10going to take Dart, because if you have
3:12him unstacked, uncorrelated,
3:15I basically think you get the rushing
3:16upside from Jackson Dart. But, you know,
3:18it could have been Herbert, could have
3:20been Lawrence, could have been Mahomes.
3:21Doesn't really matter there. This is
3:23definitely the end of the group of wide
3:25receiver. We're going to take Ricky
3:27Pearsall. But, when you have that Jayden
3:28Reed, Worthy, Myers, Concepcion tier, in
3:31my mind, things absolutely fall off a
3:34cliff at that spot, right? You do not
3:37want to be counting on Khalil Shakir or
3:39Omar Cooper Jr. or Rashid Shaheed in any
3:42of your given leagues. We're going to go
3:44back to the running back position. And
3:46again, the end of a tier here. We're
3:48going to add in Tyron Tracy, who does,
3:50you know, kind of semi correlate there
3:52with Jackson Dart. Not that you have to
3:54stack in like a seasonal manage league
3:56or anything like that.
3:58But I think Trey Sermon makes a good
3:59amount of sense. Then we're going to
4:00look at the wide receiver group. Oh,
4:02well, you know what? Matthew Golden is
4:04still here. So that is who we are going
4:06to take. So we basically have our
4:08positional distributions are super
4:10balanced here. If you look at the way
4:11that we disseminated it, which I think
4:14on the left side of the board when you
4:15are drafting first or second and you go
4:18with Gibbs or Bijan, I do think a very
4:20balanced build is kind of the direction
4:22to go. We're going to take one of my
4:23favorite sleeper-style running backs
4:25here. This draft is almost done. We are
4:27going to take one Mr. Tank Bigsby with
4:29our second-to-last pick.
4:32I'm thinking about potentially doubling
4:33up on tight end here. I do quite like
4:36Tyler Warren. Um, you know, we'll go
4:38with the sleeper receiver instead. We
4:40will take Actually, no, I changed my
4:42mind. We're going to take Isaiah Likely
4:44there, which is something that I I've
4:46been meaning to make a video on and talk
4:48about on this channel, which is that I
4:50do think that there are probably more
4:53opportunities to take two tight ends in
4:55home leagues this year than honestly
4:58kind of at any other stage this season.
5:01But looking at my team, so I was able to
5:03get a top 12 quarterback, right? Jackson
5:05Dart, top 12 quarterback. We were able
5:07to get Jahmyr Gibbs, who is the number
5:09one running back. D'Andre Swift, I think
5:11pretty comfortably a running back two.
5:13By'Shawn Tuten, pretty comfortably a
5:15running back two. Trey Sermon, who is I
5:18mean, I suppose that by and large you do
5:20end up taking Trey Sermon more often on
5:23zero running back teams. You you could
5:25make an argument that Trey Sermon is a
5:27superfluous pick here and we should have
5:29aimed at a higher upside style guy. I
5:32would I would probably hear that
5:34argument.
5:35A wide receiver grouping of Rashee Rice,
5:38Nico Collins, DK Metcalf, Ricky
5:40Pearsall, and Matthew Golden. Again, an
5:42argument that maybe instead of taking
5:44By'Shawn Tuten, that could have been
5:46another wide receiver there. So, instead
5:47of TuTu, we could have taken Carnell
5:49Tate, we could have taken Mike Evans, we
5:51could have taken Brian Thomas Jr.,
5:53Jameson Williams. Frankly, not a not an
5:56irrational way to view the team because
5:59we are going to be semi behind in a
6:01given week at wide receiver. I mean,
6:03Rashid Shaheed and Nico Collins are
6:04great, but looking at who we you're
6:06going to have in our two flex spots, I
6:07mean, right now week one, it would be
6:09Brevin Jordan TuTu and DK Metcalf. How
6:12many running backs is DK Metcalf going
6:14to project better than? I mean, going
6:16back to the board, would you rather have
6:18DK Metcalf starting for you or would you
6:21rather have Quentin Johnston starting
6:23for you? I mean, I think you would
6:24certainly rather have Johnston. So,
6:26looking at the 2 V2, it would have been
6:28something like instead of Brevin Jordan
6:29TuTu, we take Mike Evans at the 5.01.
6:33And instead of DK Metcalf, we take Tyjae
6:34Spears. I mean, frankly, that's probably
6:37pretty close. I suppose there is a
6:39little bit like I mean, you could just
6:40say I'm quibbling with that one, but the
6:42key strategy that you have to remember
6:45when you are drafting at the first
6:47overall pick is that the wide receivers
6:49available to you at the 2-3 turn are
6:51going to be far better than the wide
6:53receivers available to you at the 4-5
6:55turn, but that is not true of the
6:57running backs. When you look at those
6:58running backs who I could have taken
7:00there Jacobs Breece Javonte Etienne
7:03Kyren Williams, can you honestly say in
7:05your heart of hearts that you really
7:07prefer
7:08Kyren Williams to D'Andre Swift? I I
7:10mean, I I I don't really think that you
7:13can. I mean, Kyren Williams had a
7:14phenomenal fantasy football season last
7:16year in a volume sense, but he never
7:19finishes the top running back in a given
7:20week. He had six different running back
7:23one weeks, but still at the end of the
7:25day, Kyren Williams averaged 15 and a
7:28half fantasy points per game.
7:30D'Andre Swift didn't even particularly
7:32have a great season last year and he
7:34averaged 14.2 fantasy points per game.
7:37He didn't have the same absolute
7:39ceiling, you know, no 30-pointers in
7:41there. He is going to be sharing work
7:42with Kyle Manunga. We're going to see
7:44Kyren Williams share a little bit of
7:45work, but it's not even the micro point
7:47that really is all that important there.
7:49What is important is what you are
7:51thinking about structurally, and the
7:53advantage that you have when you draft
7:55out of the first slot is that you get
7:56Gibbs. Or or if you get Bijan, I mean, I
7:59always take Gibbs at the 1.01, but maybe
8:01you're only doing two leagues. Maybe
8:02you're only doing one league, and you're
8:04a Falcons fan, or you just love Bijan. I
8:05mean, is Bijan Robinson a better player
8:08than Jahmyr Gibbs? I think they're quite
8:10close. I do think the Lions are slightly
8:13better. I think there is less sort of
8:15systemic risk there.
8:17And I could have easily taken Pickens
8:18over Rice. I could have easily taken
8:20Olave over Nico, but the point is you
8:22use that running back strength from the
8:24first slot or the second slot, and then
8:27you need to add in ceiling with wide
8:29receiver on top of that. So, I think
8:31there is an argument even instead of
8:34D'Andre Swift to have taken another wide
8:36receiver there, maybe only done one
8:38running back at that turn. I kind of
8:40didn't really know what I was doing with
8:41the Tyler Lockett. I mean,
8:43in a 12-team league, I'm fine starting
8:45Harold Landry Jr. I'm fine starting Kyle
8:47Pitts. That 6-7 turn is just real
8:49difficult. There are a lot of guys there
8:51that you don't love to click. Like,
8:53Quentin Johnston does not inspire me.
8:55Jamaal Williams does not inspire me.
8:56Tony Pollard does not inspire me. So,
8:58you kind of have to do what the room
9:00gives you there.
9:02Maybe in your league, and in fact, I
9:03play in leagues like this where
9:06everyone, you know, they subscribe to
9:07the Davis Mattek channel, they subscribe
9:09to the Flock Dynasty channel, they play
9:10on Underdog. They're like super obsessed
9:12with fantasy football. In those leagues,
9:14I actually noticed that quarterbacks end
9:16up sliding down the board. I would have
9:19been very comfortable taking Jayden
9:21Daniels, Drake May
9:23at that slot. In fact, looking at the
9:25way that this disseminated, the Mason
9:27bot actually took Jalen Hurts at the
9:297.10. Maybe I should have just taken
9:33Jalen Hurts. You know, Jalen Hurts is is
9:35very easily going to finish as a top 10
9:37fantasy football quarterback, probably a
9:39top 10 fantasy football quarterback. And
9:42you know, the difference, okay, so the
9:432v2 there would have been Jalen Hurts
9:46and Kyle Pitts versus Tyler Warren and
9:49Jackson Dart.
9:51You know what? Give me the first
9:52combination. Give me Hurts and Pitts
9:54over Tyler Warren and Jackson Dart. I
9:55think I think I probably played that one
