Caleb Douglas

PositiveProjection0:00

Matt Harmon is higher on Caleb Douglas than consensus; he views him as a classic fourth-to-fifth-round prospect despite being selected in the third round by Miami. Douglas is 6'3", 205 lbs with a 4.39 40-time, 91st-percentile hand size, and 68th-percentile arm length. Harmon highlights interesting tape, strong athleticism, good twitch after the catch, and solid ball tracking and contested catch ability downfield. However, Douglas is developmental with significant concerns: pathetic 31.5-inch vertical jump (9th percentile), raw route running (64% success vs. man, 67% vs. press), and he's not the same tackle breaker as Quentin Johnston. Harmon added Douglas to his Rookie Roundup on Saturday morning after initially leaving him off, indicating conviction in his upside despite the third-round selection being aggressive relative to his pre-draft ranking around Jacoby Lane (whom Harmon also viewed as a fourth-rounder). Douglas is positioned as the sacrificial X receiver in Miami's three-receiver rookie class.

Chris Bell

NegativeProjection0:00

Matt Harmon ranked Chris Bell as his top wide receiver after Denzel Mims heading into day two, placing him in early-second-round territory pre-injury before he fell to the third round due to a late-2025 ACL tear. Bell is 6'2", 222 lbs with 87th-percentile hands (10-inch) and strong reception perception grades: 70% success rate vs. man coverage, 68% vs. press, 77% vs. zone. He excels on back-shoulder catches and routes, evidenced by 12 catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns against UVA with multiple back-shoulder completions. Harmon views him as a better prospect than Xavier Legette, Jonathan Mingo, and Terrace Marshall, with significant upside if he develops in-breaking routes and gains strength. Bell is an excellent fit with Malik Willis in Miami's run-heavy offense with play-action and in-breaking routes; he can play X receiver role with promising press-man coverage work. Despite torn ACL recovery risk, Miami's depth chart (Jaylen Tolbert and Tutu Atwell as primary options) and offensive environment support early playing time. The Dolphins' massive offensive line (average 325 lbs, with Patrick Paul at left tackle, Caden Proctor at left guard, and Joe Jonas Savaiina in the mix) and run-game setup with Devon Achane create a play-action environment with quick crossers and sail routes that suit Bell's skill set. If he doesn't have to be an exclusive X receiver and can be used on the move with free releases and crossers, he will perform well. Harmon projects Bell will have 1-2 catches per game by November-December if he gets up to speed and locks into the Dolphins program, describing him as the big-boy receiver with the highest upside who can play outside and move around the field.

Insight page

Kevin Coleman

PositiveRole1:05

Matt Harmon likes Kevin Coleman Jr. as a day-three Dolphins pick competing with Malik Washington for the slot receiver role in Miami's multi-receiver strategy to revamp the wide receiver room. Coleman shows strong route-running metrics: 66% success rate vs. man coverage, with best routes from slot (quick flats and outs). He was in space on 69% of his sampled catches, went down on first contact just 47% of the time, and broke multiple tackles 18% of the time. Positioned as a traditional slot archetype in an offense that prioritizes receivers who can catch and generate yards after catch.

Insight page

Malik Washington

PositiveRole1:05

Matt Harmon still likes Malik Washington despite Kevin Coleman Jr. being added on day three to compete for the slot receiver role, suggesting confidence in his ability to hold or win the position in Miami's receiver room.

Insight page

Quentin Johnston

NegativeRole6:47

Quentin Johnston serves as a movement and route-running comparison for Caleb Douglas. Douglas's movement, route-running style, and head-ducking mechanics closely resemble Johnston's, to the point of appearing like an impersonation. However, Douglas is not the same tackle breaker Johnston was in college or the NFL, though Douglas is a better contested catch player and ball tracker downfield. Like Johnston, Douglas is very raw as a route runner and less explosive as a mover.

0:00Miami tried to revamp their wide receiver room here in the third round by taking Caleb Douglas out of Texas Tech and Chris Bell
0:09out of >> release.
0:10>> There's your separation.
0:11>> Great route.
0:12>> Stutter and go, gets by clean.
0:13>> That is unbelievable.
0:15>> May be the greatest catch I've ever seen.
0:22>> At the 311 and 330. This is an interesting combination here by by Miami and I like it. Like Caleb
0:28Douglas 6'3 205 lb. He ran a 439 40.
0:34So this guy can move and meanwhile Chris Bell fell in the draft because he tore his ACL late in 2025. A lot of folks had
0:41Chris Bell at 6'2 222 lb going much higher in the draft. He was getting some first round buzz. I don't know if he would have got there, but
0:51certainly if we're talking end of the third round, Miami is taking a swing on a player that has upside for a lot more,
1:01but they've revamped their wide receiver room just in the third round alone.
1:05>> Oh yeah, no question and they came back around later and got Kevin Coleman Jr.
1:10on day three who I think will compete with Malik Washington to be the slot receiver. I still like Malik Washington too by the way. So I definitely think
1:19This was what the This is what you know we talk I feel like we talked about this on the show when we talked about the
1:23Dolphins wide receiver room that this is kind of what I expected them to do. I didn't think they would use a first
1:27round pick on a wide receiver. I thought they would hammer it on day two and day three and that's exactly what they did.
1:31They took multiple third round picks.
1:32They take a pick in the third in the third day as well. This is very Packers-ish of them and obviously John
1:38Eric Sullivan comes from the Packers front office. So this is to be expected.
1:42Now what I wasn't expecting was Caleb Douglas in the third round.
1:45You know based on the consensus board and obviously he was a guy that I had not I had he was he was like one of the
1:51last guys I left off of the rookie roundup and I went back and charted him and Zayvian Thomas cuz he was They were
1:58another two guys that I didn't expect to go on day two. So, I went back on on Saturday morning and added both
2:05Caleb Douglas and Zayvian Thomas, the Bears explosive third-round pick, to the Rookie Roundup. So, it was it was like, "Listen, you go on day two, you're
2:13getting put on the site. It's got to be done." So, got Caleb Douglas in on Saturday morning and yeah, he he was a guy that I I charted
2:22his teammate Reggie Roberson just cuz he was ranked a little bit higher on the consensus boards. So, Reggie Roberson didn't go to the fifth round. So, Caleb
2:29Douglas definitely an aggressive pick in the third round. There's no question about that. And Chris Bell though on the other standpoint, like I do think even
2:38though Chris Bell's the second receiver drafted, he does have the higher ceiling than Caleb Douglas does for this team.
2:43We I want to talk about Douglas and talk about his potential usage for the team and actually how that might marry with
2:49Chris Bell, but just on Chris Bell in particular, he was going into day two my highest-ranked wide receiver after Denzel Mims, who was just strange to
2:59fall to the second round for Denzel Mims, but then the next tier of guys, Chris Bell was my top, Greg. But I also said this
3:06plenty of times with him, 21 years old, coming off the torn ACL.
3:11>> [clears throat] >> Even without the torn ACL in the mix, he was still pretty boom or bust as a prospect.
3:16I remember you asked me, "Is he Is he A.J. Brown or is he, you know, Xavier Legette, Jonathan Mingo, Terrace Marshall?" I was like, "Can I say
3:25somewhere in the middle of that cavernous range of outcomes?"
3:29And I do think that Chris Bell from a rankings perspective for me is kind of I ranked him sort of in that that middle
3:35ground there. I would have even without the torn ACL I would have still said he's like an early second-round pick, more of a
3:43second-round pick, but he goes in the third round because of the injury. And that might obviously hinder him to start his career. I always hate when rookies
3:49miss time in the off-season. Right. But once he's ramped up to go, I think he is an awesome fit with Malik
3:57Willis in what I'm imagining to be like a very run-heavy offense with play action and like in-breaking routes. Um you know, his stuff over like the deep
4:07and intermediate middle needs work, but like short crossers and slants, Chris Bell turned out really well in reception perception.
4:16Uh out routes and nine routes really well there. So, he can definitely play in the X receiver role because I thought
4:22he had some promising work against press-man coverage. Still needs to develop for sure, but he's very explosive, you know, big sail routes
4:30breaking towards the outside off play action, which which Malik Willis showed well on. Go routes as well uh when he's brief
4:39moments with the Packers. Like I think Chris Bell lines up pretty well with what I'm imagining this offense is going to ask of one of its boundary receivers.
4:46So, yeah, there's variance with him.
4:50No question, but I think it's just a a great bet for Miami in the third round because the receiver room is so lacking
4:55for top options.
4:57>> Can we do go back and talk about Caleb Douglas here very quickly? Again, 6'3 205 lbs, so he's got a little bit of
5:02size to him. He ran that 439. Um I [clears throat] really liked him after the catch. He's a twitchy athlete, man.
5:09He's got good ball tracking downfield.
5:11Um I love that he shows late hands. Um he really waits to get those hands up there, which I really liked. Um he had
5:18some bad bad drops, man. Um but overall, I thought he had I thought his, [snorts] you know, playmaking ability was pretty
5:26good. It's really interesting. I think when you watch look at him play on the field, you're like, "Man, this guy is
5:31skinny, but he's not small, right? Like he's 6'3 205 lbs, so he's not that he's small.
5:36It's just that he's really elongated. Um so, he's [clears throat] got an interesting body build.
5:41>> No, it's that's such a good point. Uh yeah, he is a long player. 6'3 206 at the NFL Scouting Combine. He runs a
5:484.39, so I know James you like to see that.
5:52But, 68th percentile arm length, 91st percentile hand size, and he just yeah he like pathetic vertical jump. [laughter] I mean
6:02>> Yeah, I don't get that. 31 and 1/2 inch vertical, how? I What? How are you running a 4.39? And by the way, his
6:09broad jump is fine. I know. 10'6" 10'6" broad is fine. How do you have a 31 and 1/2 inch vertical? It doesn't make
6:14sense.
6:15>> Yeah, >> [clears throat] >> 85th percentile 40-yard dash.
6:1978th percentile broad jump, 9th percentile vertical jump. Crazy. Crazy.
6:25So, he's just he has a little like if you go to Mock Draftable, like he has a just a bizarre-looking almost looks like
6:31Pac-Man because everything is everything [laughter] is like out here from the spider standpoint and then it just comes right inside on the on the
6:38vertical [laughter] jump there. So, yeah, he looks like freaking Pac-Man. Uh but anyways, um Caleb Douglas though yeah, I like You
6:44know who he reminds me of from a movement standpoint? Like I thought this was almost eerie watching him um it it run run routes just like the way
6:53he run routes runs routes the way he moves after the not as much like he's not as good as this player with the ball
6:59in his hands, but just some of the way he truly runs with the ball in his hands um and even the way that this guy like
7:06ducks his head when he runs routes. He He looks so much like Quentin Johnston.
7:11Like it's You could almost You could almost tell me that Caleb Douglas is doing a Quentin Johnston like cosplay. Yeah, he's doing
7:20a He's doing a better I mean he's doing a doing a damn impersonation of him out there. Like he's he's doing a
7:26He's doing an impression of Quentin Johnston. It's bizarre. Um that being said, like I said, he's he's not the same tackle breaker,
7:33much less of a tackle breaker than Quentin Johnston was in college or the NFL, but he is a better better contested
7:38catch player. Mention the hand size. I mean he's a better ball tracker down the field.
7:43But, much like Quentin is very raw as a route runner. Um, not as explosive, uh, I think as a mover of Quentin Johnston.
7:51Um, he also is a skewed alignment player, of course, at playing at Texas Tech. Douglas took 85% sample snaps as the right outside receiver. Um, 79% on
8:00the line of scrimmage. I do think he, if if he works in the NFL, he probably will be an X, maybe a little bit sacrificial.
8:09I thought his vertical route running was not ideal in terms of getting separation, but, you know, in a small sample in the rookie roundup, 64%
8:16success rate versus man, uh, 67% against press. Like, there's it wasn't it wasn't horrendous in terms of his ability to separate and
8:25run routes.
8:26Um, but definitely like like his two most commonly run routes were the nine route and the dig route, and those were
8:30his two of his worst success rates. But, um, he does Yeah, but he flashed like an ability to win on quicker routes. So,
8:37um, and obviously he wins contested down the field, too. So, I think there's, like I said, I think there's a little
8:42something here. I didn't go back and like, "Oh my god, what a dumb." I mean, it was it was definitely an aggressive
8:48pick by Miami, but I wasn't like, "Oh, this guy's freaking hopeless." or anything. I think he's just he to me he
8:53just strikes me a little bit developmental, which in the third round was aggressive to take a developmental player, but I'm not going to kill him
8:59for that if they really like him as that X receiver role and they just see something there. And like I said, then
9:04them coming back and getting Chris Bell, especially if Bell doesn't have to be like an exclusive X, and you can get him
9:10on the move and get him free releases and crossers and stuff like that, >> [gasps] >> he's going to cook. And if if he's
9:16healthy, he's going to cook.
9:17>> Yeah.
9:18>> Um, yeah, I I again, I thought it was a bit of a reach. I didn't hate it, though. I thought Caleb Douglas was like
9:23a a classic fourth-round draft pick, you know? Um, I thought he showed a lot of things on tape that were at least
9:28interesting. Certainly the 40-time is really interesting, but I like his twitch after the catch, too.
9:33Um, there's some stuff there, man. Like, I like I'm I'm a higher on Caleb Douglas than I think most people are. Um I think he's got a chance. But
9:42talking about >> him I had him ranked around like Jacoby Lane, you know, and and Lane went more aggressive, but I thought Lane was a
9:49fourth-rounder. And I think yeah, Caleb Douglas like fourth, fifth rounder it's fine.
9:54>> Yeah, it's fine. [snorts] Um okay, skewed alignment for Caleb Douglas, skewed alignment for Chris Bell as well.
10:00So, Miami double dipping into the skewed alignment guys here.
10:04Uh but what I mean it's a it's a third round, so I get it. But again, Chris Bell uh nearly 70% success rate versus
10:09man, 68% success rate versus press, pretty good. 77% success rate versus zone, again, pretty good. A little bit lower than the 70-80 threshold we'd like
10:19to see um against man and zone, but he's he's right there. He's knocking on that door. Um I will say this, too. Again,
10:25222 lbs, Matt.
10:27But it's strange. Like he didn't use size to win versus tight coverage. He is so dang good on that back shoulder catch
10:39and throw. I mean, Godly, go turn on his game against UVA. He probably caught 10 back shoulders, you know?
10:46Ultimately, he caught 12 catches for 170 yards and two touchdowns in that game.
10:51But Godly, it felt like every damn catch was a back shoulder throw, man. Uh he's got huge hands as well. Um and I just
10:59thought that Chris Bell uh does a really, really good job kind of getting open on that back shoulder.
11:05>> Yeah, I I think that's a really good call. Chris Bell like he is someone that I think he's like credible at everything if that makes
11:16sense. Like he's a credible contested catch receiver, he's a credible after catch receiver. Um he goes down on first contact a lot. Uh like I didn't think he
11:25was like a true tackle breaker, which is why the A.J. Brown comparison does I mean, you shouldn't you shouldn't compare any receiver to A.J. Brown.
11:31Like the history's littered with bad AJ Brown comparisons.
11:35Um but anyways, like he's more of a he could if he gets a a lane, he gets a crease, he's going to explode through
11:42it. Obviously, Miami he did that again He did that against schools all the way from JMU to Miami, you know, in terms of
11:50the level of competition. Like, um And I thought that, you know, Chris Bell would definitely have some volatile moments, but his high moments were
11:58really, really high. I also think too you know, 6'1" and 7/8", so just under 6'2", 222 lbs, um 51st percentile wingspan. You
12:08mentioned the 10-in hands, 87th percentile.
12:11And I actually I don't This is going to sound mean, but I actually think he doesn't look that big. Like, he doesn't look too When I
12:20look at him, he doesn't look like rocked up, like 222 lbs. But I think with that frame, he could probably get bigger and
12:26stronger. And like, if he gets bigger and stronger with his athleticism and what I would say is promising work against press man coverage, um he
12:35definitely does Like I said, needs to develop on the in-breaking routes. But dude, if like he gets better as a route
12:40runner and also gets physically stronger, like I said, there's there's a lot of upside for a player like this.
12:46So, I certainly liked him better than the Leggetts and the Mingos of the worlds, you know, like he was a better
12:52prospect than that. But he But he's volatile. And what I would just worry about is I I could actually think in a way him
13:00landing with Miami, maybe this eases my worry with him cuz I just also worry sometimes with these receivers that, you know, you're going
13:07to get kind of lost in the sauce if you don't get uh early playing time. And while I think that Chris Bell has the
13:14press man chops to play early, you just always wonder with the um torn ACL, he's going to miss off-season time, you know,
13:22he's going to be a little behind the eight ball. But like, Miami's done that.
13:25What are they going to do? Play Jaylen Tolbert all year? Like, they're going to play they're going to play Chris Bell at
13:29some point. They've been playing Tutu Atwell all year. Like so I think at some point Chris Bell will get a chance. And
13:34I'm just telling you right now like if Malik Willis is is credible, you know, he's a credible starting quarterback and like they're running
13:40Have you seen their offensive line?
13:42Their offensive line is their average weight, I think I saw somebody say this today, is 325 lb and they have a 296 lb
13:49center.
13:51That's how big their offensive line is.
13:52Like Patrick Paul left tackle, massive.
13:55They're going to play Caden Proctor, their big ass tackle that they just drafted They're going to play him at left guard.
14:01Um you you've got Joe Jonas Savaiina who they drafted last year, another big dude. Like they have a ton of size on
14:07this offensive line. So like if they can and look, they're going to be behind a lot of games so this will be easier said
14:11than done. But like if they can pull off having a really good run game with Devon Achane back there and Malik
14:17Willis back there and they're running play action and we're running sail routes and we're running quick crossers.
14:22Like Chris Bell by November, December, if he can get up to speed and he's not, you know, he's he's locked in and
14:27everything like that, he's going to have like one to two sick catches a game. So they go then going into 2027, he's going to
14:34be, you know, like pretty locked into the program here. So I think in a way this was a good landing spot for him to
14:41grab here.
14:43Uh I I like it. And again, I also like them coming back on the third day and drafting Kevin Coleman Jr. Kevin Coleman
14:50Jr. is a pretty I I ultimately, yeah, he went in the right range like day three pick to me, but >> Mhm.
14:56>> he's another guy that was really impressive on out cuts against man coverage. Uh just 66% success rate versus man, so nothing special, but like
15:04his best routes were quick flat routes from the slot, out routes from the slot.
15:09And he's another guy that can make plays with the ball in his hands. Um solid hands overall, won seven of his 10
15:15contested targets, but his best stuff, he was um in space on 69% of his sampled catches, went down on first contact just
15:2447% of the time, broke multiple tackles 18% of the time. So, a very slippery guy in the open field. So, they have like
15:30three completely different wide receivers that they took from this year's class, Miami. They have like kind of I think a sacrificial X in Caleb
15:36Douglas.
15:37>> Uh-huh.
15:38>> Big boy in Chris Bell that I think has the highest upside who can play outside, but uh can move around the field. And
15:44then they got like a traditional slot archetype again, I think in Kevin Coleman to to compete with Malik Washington.
15:50>> Even though Bell and Douglas aren't like tremendous after the catch guys, I think they both have after the catch ability.
15:59Um and then when you talk about uh Kevin Coleman in that way, too, I I think they really thought, "Okay, if we're going to try to go make some
16:07noise out here, we're going to try to go get some guys who can catch the football and then get some additional yards, you
16:12know? Like this is I think the offensive philosophy that they're going to have there in South Beach, man. So, um I
16:19think that's what they're trying to kind of sort of look for. And oh, by the way, I bring up the back shoulder stuff with
16:24with Chris Bell because I think that's where Malik uh Willis I think he developed that a little bit in Green Bay
16:30throwing that back shoulder. So, I I wonder if that skill set is a interesting pairing there um as well.
16:36So, I'm I'm curious. I'm curious. This is look, this is not a good wide receiver room, okay? I mean, we're we're hyping it up
16:43and stuff, you know, but like >> [laughter] >> it's not good. It's not good at all.
16:47>> I No, it's not good, but it's the if these guys hit, like it's a remade wide receiver room, you know? Like
16:54that's >> Yeah, you're This is exact But, this is exactly what you should do. Just throw darts at it.
16:59>> I agree.
17:01I agree. Good job, Miami.
