Matt Harmon notes that Marvin Harrison Jr. has been a disappointing player relative to expectations, citing a 38.5% catch rate through four games in his third season. Harrison was relegated to a 'pure sacrificial X receiver' role, lining up on the ball for 79% of snaps and running a go route on 28% of his routes, which Harmon argues does not fit his skill set. Success rates were poor (59% vs man, 69% vs zone, 46% vs press), and he suffered from a 46% on-target rate. Despite these struggles, Harmon views him as a good starting receiver who can be a useful contributor for the Houston Texans, projecting a transition to a Z receiver role to replace Jayden Higgins. Harmon recommends a 'cautious buy' for redraft and dynasty, noting he should be rostered everywhere.PositiveDepth ChartOct 13, 2026

A trade contingent on the Texans winning today’s game against the Titans. Houston could just spread the field with Nico, Marv and Noel, largely abandon their toothless run game, and put the offense in Stroud’s hands. Both Nico and MHJ are two guys I’ve wanted to see take fewer static X snaps in recent years. A lock that one now will. [Quoted](PositiveDepth ChartOct 11, 2026
The Marvin Harrison Jr. trade won't free up many targets for Michael Wilson, since Marv wasn't getting many looks, but I do think it will give Wilson a slight bump in his usage at X-receiver. This is good news for Wilson because he can play Z, but his skill set is especially well suited to X on valuable routes like the slant and deeper stop routes. He is also a fantastic receiver in contested-catch situations, which matters a lot in that spot. Almost all of Wilson's #ReceptionPerception comps...PositiveNewsOct 8, 2026

Matt Harmon expresses concern over Marvin Harrison Jr.'s usage, noting he is running a high volume of vertical routes (28% nine routes) and playing 79% on-ball, which limits his access to "layup" targets. Harrison has struggled with separation in his first two games, marking the worst performance of his career in that metric, and Harmon is currently ranking him only as a boom-bust flex option rather than a reliable WR2.PositiveNewsSep 23, 2026

Matt Harmon notes that Marvin Harrison Jr. has struggled significantly with separation in his first two games, effectively acting as a 'sacrificial X' receiver. While Harmon rejects the 'lazy' narrative and believes the viral clips of poor route running are cherry-picked, he acknowledges the player is not currently integrated into the game plan and must earn better usage from the new coaching staff.PositiveNewsSep 17, 2026

Thought Antonio Williams' film was really impressive in Week 1. Good routes, explosive out of breaks, and created some good separation. That offense needs more options and he definitely commanded some opportunity with his play. Reminder: I will have weekly charting notebooks on RP. Looking to post the first one today with Williams, Matthew Golden, MHJ, Waddle and more.NegativeUsageSep 15, 2026
Marvin Harrison Jr. is utilized as the vertical threat in the Cardinals' offense, evidenced by his 24 air yards per target in Week 1. He ran only 12% of his routes from the slot, and while Harmon expects him to be volatile on a week-to-week basis, he remains confident in his long-term outlook despite a slow start for the offense.PositiveUsageSep 13, 2026

Harmon prefers Tyler Warren over Marvin Harrison Jr. this year and ranks Warren 20 spots ahead of Harrison Jr. In redraft format, Harmon would lean slightly toward Harrison Jr. over Brian Thomas Jr., but in best ball he prefers BTJ for ceiling exposure. The Tyler Warren vs. Marvin Harrison Jr. debate was close enough that Harmon took it down to the final seconds, but ultimately chose Warren as the better pick in the sixth round.PositiveRoleAug 22, 2026
Marvin Harrison Jr. is expected to serve as the primary X receiver for the Cardinals while seeing increased usage from the slot. Matt Harmon highlights that Harrison Jr. is playing less than 70% of his snaps on the line of scrimmage, signaling a significant shift in his alignment usage and positional flexibility.PositiveRoleAug 14, 2026
Matt Harmon expresses hope that Marvin Harrison Jr. will run a route tree in Arizona under Drew Petzing and LaFleur that mirrors the Rams' concentrated usage of digs, slants, and outs rather than relying on pure vertical routes.PositiveRoleAug 12, 2026
Matt Harmon expects Marvin Harrison Jr.'s role to change significantly in his second year under offensive coordinator Michael Floor. After a rookie season that was somewhat sacrificial and focused on vertical X routes, Harrison is expected to see more intermediate, breaking-area routes in the Rams-style offense.PositiveBreakoutAug 11, 2026
Matt Harmon is buying into Marvin Harrison Jr. as a key Cardinals offensive piece. While previously deployed rigidly as an X receiver, his role is expected to evolve into a more modern, motion-heavy scheme. Harmon defends his route profile, noting his excellence on digs, slants, curls, and outs—routes prioritized in this offense—and expects increased productivity as the team's quarterbacks are more likely to target these routes than Kyler Murray. He is part of a top-three receiver group alongside Michael Wilson and Kendrick Bourne that enables 11 personnel, though Jourdan Rodrigue notes he is still learning his specific fit within the scheme.PositiveRoleAug 7, 2026
Matt Harmon remains high on Marvin Harrison Jr.'s potential, noting his elite ability to run dig routes and his improvement as a contested-catch receiver. While he was strictly utilized as an X receiver previously, Harmon is excited about the team's plan to use motion to blur positional lines and increase his deployment versatility. Harmon believes the continued development of Michael Wilson will further facilitate this, allowing the Cardinals to use Harrison in more diverse ways than previously seen.PositiveUsageJul 22, 2026

Marvin Harrison Jr. was obtained at 69th overall pick, representing really good value in best ball format as a fourth receiver option.PositiveRoleNo date
Matt Harmon evaluates Marvin Harrison as a perfectly solid but underperforming fourth overall pick who plays a low-percentage X receiver role with limited target consistency. Harmon expected him to be way better in the NFL given his draft capital and pedigree. He's acceptable in his role and will have useful moments (e.g., dig route catch against press coverage in week 3), but Michael Wilson is clearly better. Role limitation is the primary constraint; quarterback Jacob Sett hasn't pushed the ball downfield much, limiting Harrison's opportunities.PositiveProjectionNo date
Matt Harmon is optimistic about Marvin Harrison Jr. as a change factor in the Cardinals' offense, noting the new system under Michael Lor is objectively better for wide receiver usage. Harmon ranks him as WR31 (66th overall), slightly ahead of Yahoo ADP, and views him as a better dynasty buy than redraft until the QB situation is resolved. He emphasizes that Harrison is a better real-life player than public perception suggests, citing an 80th percentile success rate versus man coverage.PositiveRoleNo date
Matt Harmon identifies Marvin Harrison Jr. as a dark horse candidate for the lone receiver in heavy personnel packages (12, 22, 31 personnel). Harrison already filled this role when healthy in Drew Petty's offense with heavy tight end usage. The Cardinals can deploy Elijah Higgins (tight end/former receiver) as a clear-out player similar to Terrence Ferguson's role, freeing Harrison to run big in-breakers and out-breakers where he excels.NegativeUsageNo date
Marvin Harrison Jr. is cited as a comp for on-ball snap alignment percentage at 81%+, representing pure X receiver archetypes with high alignment consistency.
