He fits the 'need to see more' category due to limited playing time.

Chad Graff and Josh Kendall (The Athletic) identified Drew Allar as potentially the best pick of the Steelers' 2026 draft class; the third-round quarterback made the 53-man roster and may see playing time if Aaron Rodgers gets injured, given the offensive struggles.

NegativeRoleSep 25, 2026Behind the Steel Curtain

Drew Allar, a third-round rookie QB, made the Steelers' 53-man roster and is positioned as a potential replacement option for Aaron Rodgers. The Athletic's Chad Graff and Josh Kendall noted: "The best pick of this year's group may be third-round quarterback Drew Allar, who made the 53-man roster but probably won't play unless Aaron Rodgers gets hurt." Ralph Vacchiano (FOX Sports) similarly suggested that "at some point, the Steelers may have to take a look at rookie Drew Allar" given Rodgers' early-season struggles. Allar is currently a backup with limited playing time expectations unless Rodgers is injured or benched.

PositiveSleeperSep 24, 2026Footballguys

Allar is the potential quarterback of the future for Pittsburgh and could start Week 1 next year if the team is self-aware about its franchise arc. He is a prototypical size/arm/athleticism prospect who was all over the place at Penn State. His upside is much higher than a typical third-round pick, making him the one to stash in superflex dynasty leagues.

NegativeRoleSep 8, 2026Footballguys

Allar landed in Pittsburgh, a physical, run-first environment after being taken in the middle rounds. He brings prototype size and arm strength, but his processing speed under pressure remains a work in progress. Sitting behind veteran leadership allows him to redshirt his rookie campaign without the pressure to step on the field before he's ready. He has no appeal in standard single-quarterback redraft formats for Week 1.
