Raymond's 27% target rate and team-leading receiving role defy career norms but show real usage.

JJ Zachariason calls Kalief Raymond's start to the season "one of the most baffling things" he's seen as a fantasy JJ Zachariason. Raymond, a Year 10 player who has never seen 50 catches in a season or reached 650 receiving yards, is currently leading the Bears in receiving on a team with three very good pass catchers. Through three games, he's run just four fewer routes than Luther Burden and is only eight behind Roma Dunze (team leader). By the time Monday's game was out of hand with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, Raymond had a 21% target share on a 69% route share—only Burden's 32% target share was better. He's also just two targets off Burden's team lead. Raymond has a 27% targets per route run rate, which exceeds the 20% rate he's only hit once in his entire career. While Zachariason's head says this won't maintain, he notes it's not fluky—Raymond is running productive routes in Ben Johnson's offense and doesn't look bad. He concludes: "There's a difference between expecting this to continue and expecting Raymond to just disappear. Maybe this won't continue, but I don't think he's going away."
