Yahoo Sports NFL on Fernando Mendoza

First-overall pick Mendoza benched as Kubiak sticks with Cousins to chase wins.

Despite being drafted first overall to change the franchise's trajectory, Mendoza will remain on the sideline for at least another week as Kubiak prioritizes winning now with Cousins. The source notes that every week Mendoza watches is another week without the game experience that must eventually become part of his development, and Kubiak acknowledged 'Eventually, Fernando is gonna play football' but has not yet made that move, citing the need to pursue a postseason run with the veteran.
