Next up is James Cook as you're running back seven. Is this A tier or B tier, Boone? This is still A tier. Okay. It's a little tougher. It's a tough matchup going against the Chargers... he just doesn't have a lot of backfield competition, right? Other than Josh Allen, he doesn't have another back that's taking anything away.

Cook RB7 in tough Chargers matchup; receiving role hasn't evolved.

Justin Boone ranks James Cook as RB7 for Week 3 against the Chargers, placing him in A tier but noting it's a tougher matchup. Cook had a quieter day against Houston in Week 1 but went off in Week 2 against the Lions (when basically everybody on the Bills went off except TJ Moore, who got hurt early). The Chargers held Ashton Gentey to 63 yards on 25 touches, suggesting Cook may not have a huge day. Boone has been struggling to place Cook relative to Jonathan Taylor and Ashton Gentey. Cook doesn't have much backfield competition other than Josh Allen, but Ty Johnson would get more involved in the receiving game if healthy. Ty Johnson has been dealing with a hamstring injury and hasn't played this year; he was limited in practice last week. Cook's targets per route are the same as the last two years with no evolution in his passing game role despite the addition of DJ Moore and Don Kincaid's breakout. The Bills are projected for almost 29 points.
