From the episode

Remember, we got just a glimpse of Fernando Mendoza. Before the season, when people asked, when might we see Fernando Mendoza take over as the starter? We said, well, there's this chunk of games in the middle of the season that's very difficult. If a losing streak develops, that would at least give management the opening to think about making the change.

Fernando Mendoza on bench; could see action if Raiders' losing streak extends.

Fernando Mendoza is currently learning from the bench for the Raiders behind Kirk Cousins. There was a chunk of games in the middle of the season identified as very difficult; if a losing streak develops, management could open the door to thinking about making a quarterback change and potentially inserting Mendoza. The Raiders have already lost two in a row and face a brutal stretch against Bills, Rams, Jets, 49ers, Seahawks, and Broncos.
