0:09Hey, it's Drew Franklin from NFL Cover Zero. The 2026 season is underway and we are loving football on TV.
0:16Here's what you can expect from the podcast in our second season.
0:20I would suggest for these preseason games, I think they should do what they do on the NFL draft.
0:26You know, when coverage of the NFL draft is basically for moms and they're just like, hey, he has a dog named Spartan.

0:39Tonight on The Insiders, Jalen Hurts is out. Nick Sirianni gives the latest on his quarterback's health.
0:44Tyler Huntley starts again for Lamar Jackson in a key divisional showdown.
0:48Plus, Caleb Williams questionable, but Michael Penix Jr. will play in Atlanta.
0:51You are watching The Insiders presented by Progressive Insurance.
0:54We got Ian Rappaport, Judy Batista, Jeremy Fowler. I am Sarah Walsh as we get you set for this weekend's games.
1:01Week six is already upon us. And if it feels like this year is flying by, well, the Eagles may beg to differ.
1:08The challenges for Philadelphia continue this week with Jalen Hurts ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Panthers after a blood clot was discovered in his calf.
1:17The team says they are going to operate with an abundance of caution.
1:21So Tanner McKee is going to get his third career start.
1:24Here's Nick Sirianni today. I'm not going to get too much into that.
1:28I know there's a there's a great deal interest in and, you know, in Jalen's health.
1:33But I'm not going to get too much into any of that.
1:37Jalen's health is the utmost important to all of us in this building care deeply about Jalen.
1:43And, you know, like I said, I'm not going to get too much into that.
1:47You know, Tanner was out there yesterday and, you know, went on as business as usual.
1:52I have a lot of faith in Tanner, was able to go back and watch some of the games that he's been
1:59able to play in and, you know, really excited for his opportunity.
2:03But obviously, you know, bummed for Jalen. Ian, this is a serious situation.
2:07The concern is obviously with Jalen Hurts and his health.
2:10We know he's not going to play on Sunday, but what happens next?
2:15Well, essentially, the Eagles and Jalen Hurts and his medical team are going to continue to gather information.
2:20And you're right. There is a lot of interest, plenty of discussion about how long and what the Eagles are going to
2:27do and plans and football and all of those things.
2:30It does not seem like the football plans are at the forefront right now.
2:35As you mentioned, the plans are for Jalen Hurts to try to get this blood clot figured out to try to understand medically what has to happen.
2:43Does he go on blood thinners? If he does, for how long?
2:47If that happens, then what happens? There is a lot of questions.
2:51And the fact that the Eagles pulled him off the field to make sure that the medical situation, getting second opinions and
2:58all of that was first in four months, certainly sets him on the path to recovery.
3:03But for the Philadelphia Eagles, while he's going to do that, there's essentially a parallel path, which is they're going to move forward with Tanner McKee.
3:11They signed Joe Milton off the Cowboys practice squad.
3:14They got Cole Payton on the roster. They're going to move forward with football while Jalen Hurts and his medical team moves
3:21forward, making sure they do what is in the best interest of their starting quarterback.
3:26Yeah, Ian, Tanner McKee has a runway here. The Eagles don't know exactly how long, but talking to people there, they say
3:33due to the seriousness of Jalen Hurts' situation, they're assuming that McKee will play at least some amount of games.
3:39He could have at least multiple weeks here where they try to move forward with their offense.
3:44At least he will have Devontae Smith back in the lineup, healed up from that hamstring issue.
3:50And talking to people who have prepared for the Eagles, who are preparing for the Eagles, they say Tanner McKee is a
3:57true pocket passer that's just going to try to get it done from there.
4:01He's not as mobile as Jalen Hurts. Probably won't be as many design runs, although they could try to mix that up and get him moving.
4:09But he's going to try to distribute the ball to Dallas Goddard, to Devontae Smith and his weapons.
4:15And this is a team that's trying to make do offensively without much of a running game at all.
4:21Will Shipley, their third string back, just went to IR, so they do not have much in the cupboard there.
4:27Well, Ian was correct in saying that the football considerations are not the top considerations right now.
4:33It's all about Jalen Hurts' health. But there are very real football implications here.
4:37This is a precarious time for the Philadelphia Eagles.
4:40First of all, they're also without Saquon Barkley this week as they face the Carolina Panthers.
4:45But then they have three straight division opponents. Their three division rivals are coming up next before they get to the bye
4:52week, which if Jalen Hurts is out for some or all of the means, that they could be underwater in the division
4:59before Jalen Hurts can even get back on the field to try to help them.
5:03And remember, as Jeremy said, the offense has been struggling even with Jalen Hurts out there.
5:09They are near the bottom of the league in total yardage and in scoring.
5:13So this is an uphill climb for Sean Mannion, for the Eagles, and certainly for the entire organization going forward, at least for now, without Jalen Hurts.
5:21All right. Well, just south, down I-95, the Ravens quarterback is also out Sunday.
5:26Lamar Jackson is going to miss his second straight game.
5:29He's with an ankle sprain. He suffered in a win over the Titans.
5:33He hasn't returned to the practice field since. Snoop Hundley is going to start against the Browns after leading the Ravens to
5:40that overtime victory against the Falcons on Sunday night.
5:43Ian, what is the latest on Lamar's ankle? When you talk about a play being week to week, what that generally means
5:50is he's going to miss one week, which, of course, he missed last week.
5:54And then it depends on his rehab when he's able to get back out on the field.
6:00It's a little bit of a rare ankle sprain.
6:03It's not high. It's not low. I know there was some initial optimism that he would be able to get out there this week.
6:10It was not to be. Now, if he had played, he for sure would have been at less than 100%.
6:16Instead, was not able to practice, which means, one, Lamar Jackson obviously not going to play, ruled out for the second straight week.
6:24And, two, Tyler Snoop Hundley got all of the first-team reps.
6:27And that is significant because he gave them some wiggle room, some breathing room last week by coming on, playing well enough to earn the win.
6:35And that does allow the Ravens to know that when Lamar Jackson returns to the field, he'll be 100% healthy and this
6:42team's still very much in the mix. Yeah, Ian, at least the Ravens can have comfort food of sorts with Tyler Hundley.
6:49He's a part of the fabric and DNA of that franchise now.
6:53Been there for years, off and on, 6-6 as a regular season starter for Baltimore, so they know what to expect.
7:00And, look, they're going to try to get the ball to Zay Flowers and Derrick Henry in a lot of creative ways this week.
7:07And they were able to do that against Atlanta, getting Zay Flowers, moving around, you know, motions and shifts and having him
7:14almost as a running back as well as a wide receiver.
7:18So, expect that with Tyler Hundley to try to simplify the game for him.
7:22Beyond that, it's like you said, a week-to-week situation with Lamar Jackson.
7:26We're coming up. You have the Bengals, you have the Bills, and you have the Jaguars.
7:31They're certainly hopeful that during that stretch, somewhere early, that Lamar Jackson can be back.
7:36But they feel good with Tyler Hundley in that mix, regardless of how long it is.
7:41Well, the Bears are hoping to see their quarterback back.
7:44They are in need of a bounce back. They could get that with the potential return of Caleb Williams.
7:50He's missed the last three games with the hamstring injuries, practiced in full all week, officially listed as questionable.
7:56Ben Johnson on his QB1. We're right on track with the plan, and we'll see what it looks like, see how he feels.
8:03And confidence is a big part of it as well.
8:06But I know he wants to play. He's a competitor.
8:09It's been not fun for him the last few weeks, watching from the sideline, just like any guy that loves football.
8:16You know, it's been a tough deal for him.
8:19So I know he's itching to get back out there and help us win ball games.
8:24So if we feel really good as a front office, a coaching staff, and the player himself about playing, then we'll go ahead and go with it.
8:33We welcome my friend Stacey Dales to this conversation because Stacey is around this Bears team all the time.
8:39Stacey, what do you make of Caleb practicing all week, but yet he's listed as questionable for Sunday?
8:44Yes, Tara, great to be with you. It's a little perplexing when a player practices in full capacity for the entirety of
8:51the week and then ends up with an injury designation such as questionable.
8:55Because anytime a starter typically goes practicing throughout the course of a week, they have no injury designation.
9:01And so I say all this to understand there has been some gamesmanship as we see normally across the National Football League.
9:08It's not atypical to have gamesmanship, but you kind of look at the track record over the past several weeks.
9:14You go back to when he was injured in week two, a game I was at, as you see right there on the screen.
9:22You hate to see it for him, but you came out of that week understanding the reports that maybe it was a
9:29little milder in nature with that hamstring issue. However, linked to that was his questionable status going into the Eagles game.
9:35Then the next week they run out Case Keenum in place of Tyson Bajit, who ends up playing for one snap.
9:42Case Keenum gets the victory. And then all of a sudden you have this sort of press conference this week with Caleb
9:49Williams, and he deflects questions on the actual specifics of the hamstring injury, which is entirely his prerogative, declining to answer those questions.
9:56Also, though, the prerogative of the media and obligation and duty of the media to ask the questions very importantly stated.
10:03You do understand his frustration because anytime a player goes through something of this nature that they haven't gone through before, and
10:10condemning, by the way, I condemn anybody who made fun of this injury.
10:14You never want to see that in sports, let alone the National Football League in such a violent sport.
10:20But I fully anticipate, Judy, that Caleb Williams goes because he's been full all week, unless some oddity has happened over the last 24 hours.
10:28I expect him, and so does Kevin Stefanski, by the way, to play on Sunday.
10:33Well, Stace, I expect him to play too. The question I have is, are we going to see the full Caleb Williams?
10:39Because certainly one of the things he brings to the table is his mobility.
10:44He was injured after all carrying the ball. Are they going to cut him loose, or will they try to ease him back?
10:51It certainly seems to be against type for the Bears and Ben Johnson and Caleb himself to ease him back in.
10:58But we know hamstrings can be bulky. We did see him go through that workout pregame last week, and he was moving around.
11:05But will he feel comfortable enough to cut it loose?
11:08Also keep in mind, they have another game next Thursday night against the Patriots, so they've got to get Caleb Williams and
11:15manage him through a very quick turnaround. All right, so some question marks still around, Caleb, but there is no more wondering
11:22what the Falcons are going to do on Sunday.
11:25Michael Penix Jr. is cleared to play. The Atlanta quarterback suffered a rib injury in the fourth quarter of that loss to the Ravens.
11:33He didn't finish the game when it went into overtime, but he has practiced fully all week, and Kevin Stefanski has taken notice.
11:40Yeah, I thought he handled everything really well. I think with any injury at any position, you're just in constant communication with
11:47the player, with our medical staff and making sure that how they're feeling is good and then how they respond to the
11:54work is good and how they respond to the treatment.
11:57So everything responded well, and I thought Mike handled the work week very well.
12:01Stacy, you have spoken with folks in the Falcons building this week.
12:05What did you learn about Penix? They dodged an absolute bullet, and they're elated that he's okay and ready to go.
12:12As you just heard from Kevin Stefanski, I can't say enough about how much they love this guy in his now third season with the Atlanta Falcons.
12:20He just simply loves big moments, hostile environments. You saw the Green Bay and New Orleans victories.
12:26Yeah, Stacy, to your point, I was told that Michael Penix was adamant that he was not missing time this week with that rib issue.
12:33They took that late game hit against Baltimore last week.
12:37Tua Tungabailoa had to go in for him, and they ended up losing the game.
12:41This is a player who's missed a lot of time over the years, both with Atlanta due to knee issues and in college.
12:49And I was told he's just tired of it.
12:51He wants to play. So he was going to dead set, go out there and play for the Falcons this weekend practice.
12:58And it was a situation even leading up to late summer.
13:02He was performing well in practices, but he was still coming back from that knee issue that wasn't quite right.
13:08He had to wait until the early weeks of the season to make sure that he was good to go.
13:15So right now the Falcons are in a rhythm.
13:17They feel good with Penix and the running game with B.
13:21De'Jawn Robinson. They want to keep that party going in a big way.
13:25Jeremy Fowler picking up the ball there because we lost Stacey Dales.
13:29She's a gamer, though. She's coming back. We're not going to let her go out like that.
13:34She will be back with us later in the show.
13:37Taking a look at some other injury statuses. A.J.
13:40Brown, three catches in the Patriots season opener. He is questionable.
13:44We're going to talk about him, though. Chris Olave, third in the NFL in receptions, questionable due to illness.
13:50As for the defensive side of the ball corner, Trent McDuffie ranked second in past breakups, pulled his groin on Thursday.
13:56Questionable against the Cardinals. Derwin James will be out the third straight week due to a hamstring.
14:02Sam Darnold just won the Super Bowl like a second ago.
14:05So why is his head coach having to convince people that the Super Bowl winner should be a starting quarterback?
14:11We're going to take a look at the Seahawks slide next.
14:15And after a thriller in London last week, what are the Jags going to do for an English encore?
14:21We've got a preview coming from the Texans and Jags ahead.
14:24I'm Brett Coleman. And I'm Trevor Sikama. Have you ever watched a game and wondered what really made the difference beyond the final score?
14:32That's exactly why we created NFL Pro. Got a man wide open.

15:34The new NFL season is here, and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
15:41Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game, but that was last year.
15:47If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
15:51It is in the name. NFL Daily, fresh content in your feed every day, all season long.
15:57Matthew Stafford coming off his MVP season. On a dazzling dart from Matthew Stafford.
16:01Big-time trades that shake up the NFL. A.J. Brown is loose!
16:04And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
16:09The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60! They are bringing the Lombardi back to the Northwest.
16:14If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.
16:18Listen to NFL Daily on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
16:23Football's back! Hey, it's Drew Franklin from NFL Cover Zero.
16:26Enjoy the NFL season while listening to NFL Cover Zero.
16:29We have storylines, predictions, and lots of silliness. Here's what you can expect from the podcast in our second season.
16:35When you meet people and you say your job's a sports announcer, it's always interesting to see what the first thing they say is.
16:43I did have one of the more difficult questions, though.
16:46He sits next to me and he sees I'm on my computer and he goes, big sports fan.
16:52And I was like, yeah, actually. And he goes, what do you think about my Jaguars this year?
16:57I realized, like, no one's ever asked me that question ever about anything.
17:02And I was like, do you have all? Listen to NFL Cover Zero on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
17:09Welcome back to the Insiders. If you like defense, you loved last night's game.
17:14If you wanted offense, well, it was lacking at times.
17:17But here's a touchdown for you. Fourth quarter, Seahawks down 14-3.
17:21George Alani breaking tackles, getting some help, and into the end zone for the touchdown.
17:25Seahawks down 14-9. They're going to go for two to get within the field goal.
17:30Here's the ensuing two-point conversion. How about this grab?
17:33Rashid Shahid bobbles it, brings it down. Take another look.
17:36The Seahawks would get the field goal, send it to overtime.
17:39We're all knotted up. The last three primetime games, all overtime.
17:43You get your money's worth. Broncos won the toss, chose to kick.
17:47Seahawks start this thing off. Sam Darnold looking for Shahid again.
17:50It's not going to happen. Picked off there by Jaquan McMillan.
17:54Darnold's second interception of the game. The Broncos would add eight yards.
17:57Will Lutz would line up. This is a 53-yarder to win it, and it is good.
18:03The Broncos take it 17-14. Mike McDonald defended his quarterback last night.
18:06He had to do it again today. Are you in any way considering making a change at the quarterback position?
18:13No. No. You're confident that the interceptions and the turnovers are a broader problem and that that's more the symptom, if I understand.
18:20Yeah. I understand we have a great backup quarterback in Drew, and Drew is a tremendous quarterback.
18:25He's a starting-level quarterback. And that there's, you know, we didn't turn the ball over when Drew played and when he did, and then we've had takeaway issues.
18:34But right now, I think these things we have to attack as if they're in our control, and then we can move it forward.
18:42And Sam has played great football for us this year.
18:45The majority of the time, and there's other times where, you know, and he'll be the first to tell you he needs to take care of the football.
18:54But I think these are solutions that we can find with Sam as our quarterback.
18:58I believe that. Judy, there is no sugarcoating this.
19:01Turnovers have been an issue. Darnold, seven interceptions in his last four games.
19:05But when the coach is having to double down on his case that Darnold is the starter, a guy that just won
19:12the Super Bowl like a half second ago, what does it signal to you?
19:17It signals that this is probably going to be an ongoing question until the mistakes get cleaned up.
19:22Right after the game, Mike McDonald said they were going to spend the extra few days of the mini-buy looking at why
19:29the ball is in jeopardy on the offense. That's pointing directly to all the turnovers, as you mentioned.
19:35Seven interceptions in the last four games. Now, a lot is not going right for this offense right now.
19:41He got sacked five times. He was hit 17 times last night.
19:45They're not running the ball at all. They're clearly missing Kenneth Walker, who is now in Kansas City, running it up.
19:51So nothing is going smoothly on the offense. But, of course, Sam Darnold has to be more careful with the football.
19:58He's already got seven. He only had 14 all of last season.
20:02The fact of the matter is having to address it in week six means the door is open to this question being
20:09asked week after week until the mistakes stop. It is incumbent on them to figure out how to protect him better, how
20:16to get the ball running better, and how to get Sam Darnold out of the funk he has fallen into.
20:22All three of the Seahawks' losses by three or fewer points.
20:26You can say they're right there, but you can also say a turnover at any of them.
20:31That's what costs you in the end. You can catch the Jags in London again this weekend as Trevor Lawrence and the
20:38crew take on the Houston Texans on Sunday at 9.30 Eastern on the NFL Network and streaming on ESPN.
20:44Here is Molly McGrath with an update from across the pond.
20:47The Texans arrived in London early Friday morning just over 48 hours before their game against the Jaguars kicks off here at Wembley Stadium.
20:55Houston head coach D'Amico Ryans told us their team hit rock bottom after their 0-4 start to the season.
21:01Defensive end Will Anderson admitted that their defense was humbled by the rough start to the year, but said that everything changed
21:08when Ryans took over defensive play calling duties. Anderson said when he talks, everyone listens to him like he's our Mike linebacker or our captain in the huddle.
21:17He commands our best. And Ryans stressed that their best will be needed against Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who's playing with incredible confidence and anticipation.
21:25He said our defense needs to play tight, sticky coverage to take away his first read, and this game is going to
21:32be like a boxing match where the more physical team will win.
21:35Molly, thanks. The Rams have owned the Cardinals under Sean McVay, 16-3 against them since McVay took over.
21:41Now he gets his former offensive coordinator and Mike LaFleur, who is coaching the Cardinals.
21:46The Cardinals have dropped four straight since opening the season with a win.
21:50Tough loss on Monday night for the Rams. Taylor Bishotti was at Rams practice this week.
21:55Taylor, what's the vibe out there? What's the message been like to these guys this week?
22:00The message has been we are very much still in this.
22:03The Rams are 3-2. The Seahawks, as we just saw, fell last night.
22:08And so the message is we are very much in this, and it's our opportunity to capitalize on it.
22:14While they didn't get the outcome that they wanted against the Bills on Monday night, there was still a lot from that game that they really did like.
22:22Better yet, let's take a look at their last two weeks.
22:26They went on the road to Philadelphia and had two game-winning drives to come back and rally and beat the Eagles.
22:33Then Monday night against the Bills, Stafford took his team down the field in a late touchdown drive to tie it up with Buffalo.
22:40So one thing is clear. They can do it.
22:43One of the most interesting things that Stafford pointed out yesterday was when you go back and you look at the tape,
22:50there isn't that much of a difference in the tempo and play calls between the first half and the second half.
22:57And in this instance, between the first half and those late touchdown drives, the only difference is execution.
23:02Puka Nakua said that they need to do a much better job executing and playing under that pressure throughout the entirety of
23:09the game, not just when their backs are up against the wall, but throughout the entire 60 minutes of the game.
23:16I spoke to Quezenberry after a practice, and he said that the message this week has just been a heightened focus.
23:22Somebody who's going to be hyper-focused on Sunday is Quezenberry, who's going to be filling in for Alaric Jackson, who got suspended
23:29for a game at left tackle after his kerfuffle on the field with Bradley Chubb on Monday night.
23:35That's a nice way to put it. Kerfuffle. The names change, but the story remains the same in the sense of Sean
23:42McVay, it feels like, is always going up against someone that came from the Sean McVay coaching tree.
23:48And every season, it's a new guy that gets a head coaching job, and now the latest in this turnstile of coaches,
23:55which is obviously a high praise for what Sean McVay does.
23:58He turns out these coaches, and now he gets Mike LaFleur, the Cardinals, yet another coach that was operating under Sean McVay and gets his head coaching opportunity.
24:07But now you've got to take on the guy that you were learning from.
24:11Yeah, I mean, Sean McVay is no stranger to losing his assistant coaches to head coaching positions.
24:17Mike LaFleur is the seventh one that has gone, and he's lost to a head coaching position.
24:22And a fun fact is, in the first meeting between McVay and his former assistants, he is three and three.
24:28So LaFleur will be the seventh. And Sarah, like you said, LaFleur spent three years as the OC for the Rams.
24:35So how do you prepare for somebody who knows the offense and this team and this quarterback so well?
24:41Matthew Stafford said, you could stay awake all night worrying about it, wondering, what does he think I'm going to do?
24:48What does he know? But at the end of the day, you just have to trust your players to go out there and play.
24:55Sean McVay said, you can't spend the week chasing a ghost.
24:59He said they will account for hand signal and snap count.
25:02But beyond that, once the play is snapped and the ball is snapped, it's the player's decision and what he's going to do in that moment.
25:10And it's not like Sean McVay hasn't been in this position before.
25:14Right. It happens every season. Taylor, thank you. Coming up, if recent history suggests anything, expect some fireworks on Sunday night when
25:21it's the Cowboys and the Packers squaring off at Lambeau.
25:24You're watching The Insiders. Well, everyone loves a bye, and Andy Reid really loves coming back from one.
25:30He's 22-5 when coming off the bye, which is the second-best record by a head coach since the 1970 merger.
25:36Stacey, the Chiefs coming off a bye with a home game against the winless Chargers.
25:41Their offense, very much like you, Stacey Dales, always cooking.
25:44How do they pick up where they left off?
25:47Thank you. She's a really good chef, everybody. Good night.
25:50May go to dinner. Thank you. I think they're going to pick right off where they left off.
25:56They have a plus 41-point differential. That is fourth in the NFL.
26:00They have the, I believe it is the number two total offense in football.
26:04They're averaging over 400. Patrick Mahomes, 420 yards, is on pace for 38 touchdowns.
26:08It's not unlike his MVP season a few years ago, and Kenneth Walker is the reason why, I would say.
26:15The offensive line has come together. We hate to see the Taequann Thornton and Rasheed Rice out this week injuries, but Kenneth Walker has been spectacular.
26:23And I will tell you in my conversations, he was their top free agent target as he is leading the league right
26:30now with an average of 434, or excuse me, 234, 134, I'm getting my numbers wrong, rush yards per game, which is tops in the NFL.
26:38But for him to be their top free agent target last season, they were worried that the Seattle Seahawks, remember he was
26:45the MVP in the Super Bowl, were going to tag him, Sarah, because he shouldered the load so admirably.
26:51And when they did a deep dive of their offense from last year, and obviously Patrick Mahomes had the catastrophic knee injury,
26:58he has come back remarkably from that. They said we need more explosive runs.
27:02And with more explosive runs comes more opportunities in the pass game with those eligibles.
27:07And the play action has been spectacular. I believe they are fifth in the National Football League in terms of use of play action.
27:15And Kenneth Walker has changed the game in terms of those explosive runs.
27:19They've seen more stacked boxes, the Chiefs have, and they're expecting to see more stacked boxes because of that young man, which
27:26makes the pass game that much better. Spatch cooked chicken.
27:29That's Dale's go-to, by the way, everyone. You should see the picture she sent.
27:33Yep. The Bills are tied with the Lions for the highest scoring offense in the NFL, but they have allowed 30 points
27:40in three of their first five games this season.
27:43Buffalo ranks top five in scoring offensive yards, first downs per game, efficiency.
27:47They also rank bottom five in all of those categories on defense.
27:51Jeremy, Buffalo is dealing with some key injuries. What can you tell us about the Bills' availability this weekend?
27:57Well, it starts with DJ Moore, their star-wide receiver.
28:00They acquired this offseason. Missed that thriller in overtime Monday night against the Rams.
28:04They're hoping to get him back, but he did not practice very much.
28:08Was a DMP on Wednesday and Thursday, but was out on the practice field today.
28:13Could be a good sign. Dealing with a shoulder issue that they knew he needed rest really for the last two weeks.
28:20They're hopeful to get him back out there. Keon Coleman, though, you saw him there.
28:25He will play in that graphic there. He's good to go.
28:28And he's been kind of a revelation this year for Buffalo, even when DJ Moore has been out.
28:34Just 18 targets, but 15 catches, 224 yards, two touchdowns.
28:37So he will be a key player for them regardless.
28:40Ed Oliver, big D tackles, been in and out with a knee issue.
28:44He will be questionable for this one. Well, for the Raiders, they, of course, are hoping for a bounce back for the
28:51entire offense and for Kirk Cousins in particular. Remember, we got just a glimpse of Fernando Mendoza.
28:57Before the season, when people asked, when might we see Fernando Mendoza take over as the starter?
29:02We said, well, there's this chunk of games in the middle of the season that's very difficult.
29:08If a losing streak develops, that would at least give management the opening to think about making the change.
29:14Well, here we are. They have already lost two in a row.
29:17They have Bills, Rams, Jets, 49ers, Seahawks, Broncos in a row.
29:21That is a long stretch of very good opponents, very good defenses.
29:25They are not there yet. They still want Kirk Cousins to be the starting quarterback and Fernando Mendoza to learn from the bench.
29:32But if the streak grows much longer, you have to believe that the Raiders will at least think about making the change.
29:39All right, Judy, thanks. The Patriots are 14-1 in their last 15 games against the Jets in Foxborough.
29:44They are expected to have Christian Gonzalez back on the field.
29:48And while the Jets are going to be without Brees Hall and Adonai Mitchell, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn spoke about the
29:55importance of stacking wins, building a culture there, which they are trying to do.
29:59And, Ian, there was hope this week, and this would make it a lot harder for Aaron Glenn, that A.J.
30:06Brown could be returning from that high ankle sprain.
30:08What are the chances that he is playing on Sunday?
30:12I would say at least there is a chance, but it's for sure not guaranteed.
30:16My understanding going into this was that this was a six-week injury for A.J.
30:21Brown. He is not there yet. It is about four weeks, a little more, from when he came back to practice.
30:27And, look, he has been pushing to get back on the field.
30:31He has wanted to practice. He has wanted to be out there with his teammates.
30:36Meanwhile, this Patriots office seemed to have figured things out without their number-one receiver, which no doubt is going to benefit them in the long run.
30:44The fact that A.J. Brown, Judy, did not have a full practice before he is able to be activated might lead us in the direction of thinking A.J.
30:53Brown is not going to play. But a firm and final answer will come Saturday morning, depending on whether or not the Patriots activate Brown.
31:01Well, whoever is out there is going to be facing a very impressive Jets defense.
31:06They already have 17 sacks. They've held three of their first five opponents to under 200 yards of offense in their games.
31:13They are going to be without some of the offensive firepower, as Sarah pointed out before.
31:18So they are going to be leaning on this defense more than ever.
31:22David Bailey, the rookie pass rusher, had a breakout game last week.
31:26Three sacks. It's important to note, Will Campbell, the left tackle for the Patriots, who had the knee injury last week, he
31:32is listed as questionable for the game. That would be big if they had him in there.
31:38Maybe he could hold off David Bailey. But again, look for the Jets defense to try to come out and dominate this game for them.
31:46Yeah, that defense has been very good. I said if you like defense, you should watch Thursday Night Football.
31:52If you want offense, maybe you should be watching this one because touchdowns should be flying.
31:57This Packers-Cowboys matchup, both averaging over 30 points per game in their last six meetings.
32:02The Packers have had the upper hand winning five of those matchups.
32:05The last time they faced each other, they tied 40 apiece.
32:09That was week four of 2025. Well, the narrative continues in Dallas.
32:13The offense is going to score. They're going to put up the points.
32:17The defense is struggling. Ian, how can the addition of Mike Patton to the defensive staff improve this squad?
32:23You know, the Cowboys have not shied away from continuing to make improvements in season.
32:27Obviously, Joey Porter Jr., the big one. Player acquisition via trade.
32:31And bringing Mike Patton to help Christian Parker, his former protege, is really something that's not unique to the Dallas Cowboys.
32:38It's something, for instance, the Baltimore Ravens did with Zach Orr.
32:41And they brought in Dean Pease just to give a little heft, a little experience when things get tough, to give a sounding board.
32:49And this, in the past, has worked. And what the Cowboys hope is that Christian Parker, who they still view as a
32:56really good, talented coordinator, benefits from the experience in this defense just a little bit better than it has been.
33:02Well, Mike Patton talked to reporters today. And he said, look, he's got a book on most of the offensive coordinators they're
33:09going to face because he, of course, has been a defensive coordinator for a very long time.
33:14So he can bring that wealth of knowledge to the meetings.
33:18He is not going to be out there conducting practices.
33:21He's going to sit up in the booth during games.
33:24So Christian Parker will still be on the field calling the defensive plays.
33:28But he said, you know, you think you're ready for it, but you're not really ready for it until you get thrown into it.
33:36So really what they are hoping he brings is the experience and the knowledge and things he can lend to Christian Parker, who is one of his mentees.
33:44He clearly wants this to work for Christian Parker.
33:47He is going to bring all of his experience and all of his background knowledge of their opponents to bear for the Cowboys.
33:55Judy, the Green Bay Packers will play Dallas. And then that next day on Monday, they should see, expect to see running
34:02back Josh Jacobs back in their building. The NFL has removed Jacobs from the commissioner exempt list.
34:07So here's the situation. He can play week seven, but the investigation into his domestic issue is ongoing.
34:13So the league could suspend him retroactively if they find something.
34:16A lot of the investigation, I'm told, has been concluded where they've talked to Jacobs personally.
34:21They tried to talk to his ex-girlfriend in the situation who has declined that interview request due to privacy reasons, I'm told.
34:28So really it's a matter of whether that videotape of the incident would, you know, it's sealed right now.
34:34But will it come out, be made public? Will the league be able to review it?
34:39That could certainly change things. But for now, he served six games on the exempt list and he is eligible to return
34:46to his team as soon as Monday. Meanwhile, Broncos linebacker Jonathan Cooper was removed from the commissioner's exempt list today.
34:52He is expected to play next week against the Cardinals.
34:56Bryce Young is off to a strong start. Can the quarterback handle business in Philly?
35:00How Dave Canales has his Panthers ready to take control of the NFC South.
35:05I'm Brett Coleman. And I'm Trevor Sikama. Have you ever watched a game and wondered what really made the difference beyond the final score?
35:12That's exactly why we created NFL Pro. Got a man wide open.
35:16Seahawks! Every week, we use exclusive next-gen stats insights and NFL content to break down the biggest stories, matchups, and moments from around the league.
35:24We go beyond the box score to uncover the numbers, the tendencies, and details that help explain what actually happened on the field.
35:31Fires it out in the flat to Barkley, who beats one man, spins past another, leaps over at third.
35:37And don't worry, this isn't just a show for stats experts.
35:41We use advanced analytics to help tell the story behind the game, turning the numbers into insights that every fan can understand and enjoy.
35:48So whether you're a casual fan learning more about football or a hardcore fan who can't get enough analysis, our goal is
35:55to help you see the game in a whole new way.
35:59If you've ever wanted to know why a play worked, how a matchup was won, or what most fans missed on Sunday,
36:06NFL Pro delivers insights you simply can't get anywhere else.
36:09Listen to NFL Pro on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
36:14The new NFL season is here, and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
36:21Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game, but that was last year.
36:27If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
36:31It is in the name, NFL Daily, fresh content in your feed every day, all season long.
36:37Matthew Stafford coming off his MVPC. On a dazzling dart from Matthew Stafford.
36:41Big-time trades that shake up the NFL. H.A. Brown is loose!
36:44And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
36:49The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60! They are bringing the Lombardi back to the Northwest.
36:54If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.
36:57Listen to NFL Daily on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
37:02Football's back! Hey, it's Drew Franklin from NFL Cover Zero.
37:06Enjoy the NFL season while listening to NFL Cover Zero.
37:09We have storylines, predictions, and lots of silliness. Here's what you can expect from the podcast in our second season.
37:15When you meet people and you say your job's a sports announcer, it's always interesting to see what the first thing they say is.
37:23I did have one of the more difficult questions, though.
37:26He sits next to me and he sees I'm on my computer and he goes, big sports fan.
37:32And I was like, yeah, actually. And he goes, what do you think about my Jaguars this year?
37:37I realized, like, no one's ever asked me that question ever about anything.
37:41And I was like, do you have all? Listen to NFL Cover Zero on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
37:49Well, Jameis Winston seeking his third straight game with three passing touchdowns.
37:53That was last done for the Giants by Frank Tarkenton in 1967.
37:57The Giants are looking to make it five in a row at home for the first time in a decade.
38:03This is a Giants team that has had to make adjustments.
38:07They certainly had to do it at the quarterback position.
38:10But now, Judy, what about running back? Camp Scadaboo's fumbled four times this year, and head coach John Harbaugh called it, quote, unacceptable.
38:17Will he see a diminished role until he can gain back Harbaugh's trust?
38:21Well, it could be. John Harbaugh was asked today if he had reached the point where he would consider making changes in
38:28the running back distribution because of the fumbles. And he said, we'll see.
38:32As you pointed out, Camp Scadaboo has fumbled four times.
38:35They've only lost one of them, but, of course, that was this one against the commanders.
38:40John Harbaugh has already benched Tyrone Tracy earlier in the season for a fumble.
38:45Of course, Tyrone Tracy is in that running back room.
38:48They have Najee Harris. Devin Singletary has been a healthy scratch.
38:51So they do have some options if they want to diminish Camp Scadaboo's workload.
38:56He has been by far the leading ball carrier in the running back room.
39:00Frankly, the running game has just not taken off the way they had hoped, the way they expected to be able to
39:07lean on it after Jackson Dart got injured. It just hasn't come along yet.
39:12So I wouldn't be surprised if we see John Harbaugh make some changes just to try to get a spark.
39:18Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see them run the heck out of the ball, whoever is carrying it as well.
39:25And for the New Orleans State, it's been really a fascinating week for them.
39:29We saw Gail Benson come out publicly and talk about the accountability that she feels with the team.
39:35Essentially, the performance has not been good enough, and she made sure to mention it to the fans in a public appearance.
39:42And then today's practice, she was out on the field embracing Kellen Moore in what can only be seen as a show of support for the head coach.
39:50Meanwhile, so much of the focus in practice has been on Tyler Shook, the talented young quarterback, just preventing some of the turnovers he's had.
39:58And New Orleans has a lot going for him.
40:01The defense has been really good. The offense has moved the ball at times.
40:06Red zone struggles and a lot of turnovers. Hard to play winning football when you turn the ball over as much as they have.
40:13When you throw the ball simply as much as they have, we will see on Saturday if these Saints can limit some
40:20of these turnovers and get back to what they looked like at the beginning of the season.
40:26Well, Ian, from one South NFC East showdown to another, most thought this would be two former Bama quarterbacks going at it.
40:32Bryce Young will be in action, but Jalen Hurts, of course, ruled out after it was discovered he had a blood clot in his calf.
40:40Tanner McKee starts in his place. Meanwhile, Bryce Young has led the Panthers to one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league.
40:47Prior to their bye week, Young was leading the league in passing yards, ranked third in passing touchdowns this season.
40:54And, Judy, this is what Canales envisioned for Bryce.
40:56He told me before this year he even kicked, he said how much more comfortable he seemed, how much more vocal he
41:03was, and certainly showing out there on the football field.
41:07Yeah, remember when Bryce Young was benched a couple of seasons ago and everybody wondered, wow, is that the end of his career already?
41:14Not so much. Look what he's done now. He's still leading the league in passing yards per game.
41:20They are averaging, averaging 30 points per game. So he has come out throwing, and the offense has really responded.
41:26Remember, the Philadelphia Eagles, they have issues on offense.
41:29They've also had issues on defense. They are struggling to get to the quarterback, and they are struggling to get off the field.
41:36They've given up more long drives than any other team in the league so far this season.
41:42So keep an eye on Bryce Young, who was red-hot going into the bye.
41:46We will see if he continues that coming out of it.
41:50They get an Eagles team that's under .500 for the first time in five years.
41:54Well, Snoop Hundley got the comeback win for the Ravens last Sunday night, but now he's got a big division test against the Browns coming up.
42:02Stacey Dales is on Upset Alert next. You can catch the Jags in London again this weekend as Trevor Lawrence and his
42:09crew take on the Houston Texans Sunday, 9.30 Eastern on NFL Network and streaming on ESPN.
42:14And then following the game, the Sunday game day lineup has you covered up until the final whistle.
42:20Game day live to keep you in it. Game day highlights to catch every big play you might have missed on game
42:27day final to wrap up your NFL Sunday. You can see it all on NFL Network and now also streaming on the ESPN app.
42:35Lamar Jackson is not going to play Sunday against the Browns.
42:38He's 10-4 all time against Cleveland, but instead has that high ankle sprain.
42:42He suffered it against the Titans and now will miss his second straight game.
42:47So, Stacey, the Browns have a really big opportunity now facing the Ravens without Lamar Jackson.
42:52How can Deshaun Watson and the Browns pull off this upset?
42:55Well, they've got to find some offense. They've been anemic Sarah offensively, but it's really interesting.
43:00It's a huge game at 3-2 for these Cleveland Browns because the winner of this game takes sole possession of first place in the division, the AFC North.
43:09The last time the Browns were in sole possession at week six or beyond was 12 years ago in 2014.
43:15So, this is massive. And I mentioned the offense has struggled mightily.
43:19They've given up more sacks in the NFL than anybody.
43:22Nineteen. Eight of them came last week against the Jets.
43:26They've got two rookie starters on their offensive line.
43:28They have struggled to run the football, but they are continuing to believe in Deshaun Watson.
43:33In the moments where he's been good, the comeback victories, all three of them, it's been big plays with his legs.
43:40And they are very excited about that within the building, but they've got to get him to play point guard.
43:46The other thing I'm told about this team, though, from within the building is simply the relationship with Todd Munkin, who obviously
43:53was the offensive coordinator with these incoming Baltimore Ravens, and just how much Todd Munkin puts on his quarterback and leeway on
44:00his quarterback at the line of scrimmage. They've continued to try to do that with Deshaun Watson.
44:06They need those legs to be involved, but he's got a huge opportunity, despite the offensive struggle, Sarah, to win a game, go 4-2.
44:13Can you imagine? It's been a while for the Cleveland Browns and their fan base against an incoming Ravens team that is 4-1.
44:20Hey, just new Puntley. Yeah, just in Cleveland. Good time to be a Cleveland sports fan.
44:26They've got baseball going on. Meanwhile, Munkin used to be the O.C.
44:29in Tampa. In Tampa, Baker Mayfield ruled out for the third straight week with that dislocated thumb.
44:35Jalen Daniels looking for win number two, coming off all that momentum from a Thursday night victory against the Cowboys.
44:41Ian, how close was Baker to returning this week?
44:44You know, it never felt, Sarah, like he was particularly close, although he tried.
44:48He tried to grip a football, tried to throw, tried to beat the three-week timeline, which was basically the minimum, right?
44:55He tried to get out there, was not able to practice once this week, going to miss his third straight game.
45:02Now it's going to get interesting because this is around the time when Baker Mayfield should be able to at least start
45:08gripping a football, should be able to start throwing, and it's really not quite a pain tolerance issue.
45:14It's really much more of a functionality issue. In other words, can he throw?
45:19And you know if he can, he's going to do everything he can to get out there.
45:24Does Jalen Daniels keep the Bucs afloat long enough to have Baker come in and have a shot?
45:30One of the things we are going to find out on Sunday.
45:33All right. Well, for the second straight week, the Titans and Cam Ward are facing a division opponent.
45:39Ward does not have a division win to his name.
45:420-7 in his career against division opponents. If he loses on Sunday, he would tie Colt McCoy and Chris Wankie for the
45:49third longest losing streak since the merger. Ian, year two, coach two of the Cam Ward experience in Nashville, just three wins.
45:56Robert Sala, he's completely defended his quarterback, but how long of a leash does his quarterback have at this point?
46:02It does not seem like a Bryce Young-style benching is coming for the Tennessee Titans, or if they have.
46:08They have not given any indication publicly or privately that it is.
46:12In fact, this organization continues to stand behind Cam Ward, believing that he is the franchise quarterback, believing that the good play
46:19he's shown at times, and there have been plenty of highlights, is coming more in a down-in, down-out basis.
46:25I would also add here that it's not like the talent level of the Tennessee Titans is really up to close to
46:32the level of some of the teams they're playing, even the Nineteen-Napos Colts with a 2-3 record of far, far more superstars
46:39than the Tennessee Titans have, at least on the offensive side of the ball.
46:44They continue to stand by, continue to hope for, and try to key up this development of Cam Ward.
46:50Are we going to continue watching him do it on the field?
46:53Well, there's no question how badly Cam would want to win, and so would this guy.
46:58A really tough week. Plenty of questions for Dan Quinn, and the Commanders doesn't get any easier because up next they're going to San Francisco.
47:06Coming up, how important is Monday night's game for Quinn and this Commanders team?
47:11Saturday, it's a college football tripleheader on ABC. At noon Eastern, Florida Gators travel to Texas, take on the 7th-ranked Longhorns.
47:17Then at 3.30, No. 6 Alabama heads to Knoxville to face No.
47:2114 Tennessee. And in the nightcap, we've got a top-10 matchup in Provo, Utah, the 2nd-ranked Fighting Irish and Notre Dame, taking on No.
47:298 BYU. And the action continues on Sunday. The final NFL game in London, Texans-Jaguars, 9.30 Eastern on NFL Network and streaming on the ESPN app.
47:37And then on Monday Night Football, oh, I was going to see if they were going to change the music for it, and they did.
47:45They're on this thing. Fresh off a tie, the Commanders are heading west to take on the undefeated 49ers.
47:518 Eastern on ABC, ESPN, and streaming on the ESPN app.
47:54Whoever's playing DJ is doing a great job tonight.
47:57The 49ers have played 87 games on Monday Night Football.
48:00Their 55 wins tied with the Steelers for the most all-time.
48:04What a daunting task in front of Dan Quinn and the Commanders.
48:08And, Ian, look, it is important for every team to win every game.
48:12Every coach is going to say every game is important.
48:15But given the magnitude of what just happened, given the eyeballs, it feels like the entire football world was staring at Washington
48:22all week and asking questions and trying to poke holes.
48:25How critical is this game for Dan Quinn? It is important.
48:28Now, for a couple reasons. First of all, the entire country is going to be watching, and you know that nationally televised
48:35game, especially when you have a bye the week after, take on greater importance than a lot of games than, say, a random game at 1 p.m.
48:44And what the Commanders went through last week, which was all their fault, essentially, has caused the eyeballs, as you mentioned, to land squarely on the head coaches.
48:53It should go all around the organization, from offensive coordinator, quarterback to those on the field.
48:58But the reality of the head coaching position is that is where it goes.
49:02It has been a tough season. Last year was a tough season.
49:06This is not an owner in Josh Harris who generally likes to or wants to fire someone midseason.
49:12It really is only if he has to. So for the Washington Commanders, I think it's fair to say a good performance
49:19on Monday night would be very, very good for all involved in Washington, Judy.
49:23Well, Josh Harris, the owner, has not been the owner of the Commanders for all that long, so we don't have a
49:30long track record as an NFL owner to look back on to see how Josh Harris may be leaning.
49:36However, he was on a panel at the Economic Club in Washington, D.C.
49:40last night, and he was talking about what a difficult week it's been, how miserable it's been.
49:45He said he should probably apologize to his wife for how bad he has been this week.
49:51And he also referenced how long these things stay with him.
49:54So certainly if you are on that coaching staff or you're Dan Quinn and you hear those comments, that is not what
50:01you want to hear from an owner in his first public comment since this very public debacle.
50:07We will hear probably more from Josh Harris. There is an owner's meeting in New York next week, and he usually attends those.
50:14So perhaps we will catch up with him there.

50:28We'll see what the Commanders can come up with.
50:31All eyes on Washington as they head west. Enjoy week six, everybody.
