Yahoo Sports NFL on J.J. McCarthy
From the article
McCarthy has catapulted himself back into the 'QB1' conversation with an electric 11 minutes against the New Orleans Saints and a game full of explosive plays against the Houston Texans.
STACKED’s take
McCarthy's explosive play has him in QB1 conversation; must improve consistency against Eagles.
McCarthy has catapulted himself into the 'QB1' conversation after an electric 11 minutes against the Saints and a game full of explosive plays against the Texans. The source notes he excelled at throwing deep against Houston with legitimate 'WOW' throws, though his passing success rate ranked 25th out of 25 qualifying quarterbacks. Against the Eagles' two-high shells, McCarthy will need to be more consistent hitting underneath passes to keep the offense moving, particularly with the Giants' run game potentially compromised by injuries to Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy. McCarthy's legs and threat of the read-option could help unlock the running game against Fangio's scheme.
