The Greg Roman offense was far more balanced in 2024-25 (31 attempts per game) than the rest of Herbert's career (39). Roman is out. Mike McDaniel is in. McDaniel's offense utilized play action at the highest rate from 2022 on, and he will maximize motion, formations, and personnel. This is absolutely an upgrade in scheme to me. One thing that will change is more quick game and "free" production. Since 2022, Tua Tagovailoa was 5th in success rate (49%), while Herbert was 16th (44%), despite being far more talented. This was great analysis by former USC QB Max Browne, but long story short, Herbert is pivoting to left-foot forward in the gun to increase his quick-game efficiency. That will help in many ways. Additionally, the Chargers OL is very likely to be healthier, and the interior should be solidified with veteran C Tyler Biadasz coming over, too. This snap-adjusted Madden score stat from Ryan Paganetti had the Chargers with the 2nd-worst OL last year. They could be fringe top 10 if things go right in 2026. Los Angeles' defense is also weak at edge and lost elite DC Jesse Minter. It's possible the Chargers are in more shoot outs after the defense had been 3rd in scoring over the past two years. So what do these positive trends mean for Herbert's fantasy appeal? Since 2022, Herbert is the QB15 in fantasy points per game and QB20 in EPA per dropback. Those rankings are nearly identical over the past two years under HC John Harbaugh with these top-two WRs. That seems like his absolute floor, but he's closer to QB8 in ADP so we're not being sneaky.
