Mason Taylor was a key target for Geno Smith in the Jets' passing game, recording multiple touchdown receptions including an early end-zone catch to tie the game at 7-7 and a late-game touchdown reception with a two-point conversion catch that brought the Jets within three points at 28-25.PositiveProjectionOct 24, 2026
Taylor is mentioned as an alternative to Kenyon Sadiq for scoring a touchdown this week. The Dolphins have been especially leaky to tight ends, surrendering touchdowns to George Kittle, Travis Kelce, Mike Gesicki, and Tanner Hudson, creating a favorable matchup for Jets tight ends.NegativeRoleOct 13, 2026
Tight end receiving disproportionate snap allocation relative to Kenyon Sadiq, the Jets' identified biggest threat at the position. Prior to Sadiq's exit in Week 5 vs. Cleveland, Taylor had 21 total snaps (15 on passing plays) compared to Sadiq's 13 total snaps (8 on passing plays). The source characterizes this allocation as difficult to comprehend given Sadiq's superior production (100+ receiving yards vs. Detroit two weeks prior) and the Jets' injury situation at wide receiver.PositiveInjuryOct 8, 2026

Stock Down: Despite having first-team reps all summer while Kenyon Sadiq worked his way back from surgery, Taylor had an objective disappointment with two catches for -2 yards and a drop that should have been called a fumble; on a critical 19-play drive, an untimely false start turned a 3rd and 1 into 3rd and 6, converting what looked like a touchdown drive into a field goal; the source still expects Taylor and Sadiq as consistent options but notes this past Sunday was not a good game for the sophomore tight end.NegativeRoleSep 14, 2026
Second-year tight end had a brutal Week 1 game; targeted three times with an inexcusable drop on a game-changing play that arguably could have been a fumble. The other two targets resulted in catches, but one was a tight end screen that went for negative yards and cost the Jets points. The source notes Taylor is fortunate the game wasn't worse and that this was not a good start for a player expected to show progress.PositiveBreakoutSep 9, 2026

Taylor had a great camp and preseason, establishing himself as Geno Smith's safety blanket. He's expected to be Smith's first option on short yardage plays and against zone coverage.
