Luther Burden

NegativeInjury0:00

Luther Burden is dealing with a groin strain expected to sideline him for the remainder of the preseason, creating a chaotic outlook for Week 1 availability and re-injury risk. Even prior to this injury, Burden was viewed as a reach in the 4th or 5th round due to target competition with Kason Loveland and Roman Wilson Jr. Despite these concerns, he remains an enticing prospect due to his fit in the Ben Johnson offense and elite historical efficiency, ranking near the top of all rookie wide receivers in yards per route run over the last decade.

0:00Drafting Luther Burden is now my fantasy
0:02nightmare. Why? Sounds like he's going
0:04to miss the rest of the preseason with a
0:05groin strain and that puts us on an
0:07awful chaotic timeline for fantasy
0:10football drafts. I mean, this is a
0:11player that was already considered a
0:13reach in the fourth or fifth round
0:15because he is competing with Kason
0:18Loveland and Roman Wilson Jr. for
0:19targets in this offense. One that we
0:21were already projecting a massive
0:24second-year leap onto who sounds like
0:27he's going to play in week one. But is
0:29that going to be 100% or 80%? What's the
0:32chance of re-injury on top of this? So
0:34that's the devil. That's the pessimistic
0:36lens. But man, as always with Luther
0:38Burden, the optimistic lens is
0:41incredibly enticing. I mean, he's a
0:42perfect fit in this Ben Johnson offense.
0:44He's a maverick with the ball in his
0:47hands. We all know about the second-year
0:49leaps that wide receivers do make and
0:51when you stack his yards per route run
0:53among all rookie wide receivers over the
0:55last 10 years, he ranks very, very near
0:58the top of this list. So, if you have
1:00been drafting Luther Burden, guess what?
1:02You'll probably get him at a round or
1:04two cheaper just here in the next few
1:06weeks. But at the same time, we have
1:09questions. We're not going to have any
1:10answers ahead of kickoff and it's
1:12always, always easier to draft a healthy
1:14player versus an injured one.
