0:04Let's dive in to the NFL Report. If the Bengals are gonna chase a title, they're gonna need Jamar coming up on the NFL Report.
0:12The latest on a scare Tuesday in Cincinnati. Meantime, he is QB2 right now in Vegas.
0:17But will Fernando Mendoza be QB1 for your fantasy team by the end of the season?
0:22Lance Zerline is here. He has some numbers that may surprise you or maybe not.
0:27I don't know. Plus, Chargers Linebacker Daiyan Henley Joins the Show to tell you why practice.
0:32Not a game. It's sometimes just as much fun as the game.
0:36All now on the NFL: The Insiders! Alright friends, let's do a show.
0:40The first one was fun. Let's do it again.
0:43Welcome to the NFL Report. We're new. We're fun.
0:46We're on NFL Channel. We're a podcast as well.
0:49My name is Andrew Siciliano. Happy to be with you and happy that you are with us.
0:54We're also a podcast because it's 2026. Find us later.
0:57Find us on YouTube. Find us everywhere. 7pm Eastern Time.
1:00Any and everything you need to know. Coming up, we're not working 9 to 5.
1:05We're only working at 7. Coming up, will Patrick Mahomes be working in two weeks?
1:10Here's what is news to me. In Kansas City today, Mahomes did not guarantee anything.
1:14He didn't want to make some bold proclamation, but the Chiefs quarterback sounded as confident as we have heard yet this summer
1:21that yes, he is going to be ready to play week one back from that ACL against the Broncos.
1:27I haven't missed any reps. Getting to go out there day after day and have the grind of a camp.
1:34That can even be harder than the season. Just wear and tear on your body and going back out there and doing it again the next day.
1:42It's been awesome for me to be able to go out there and do that.
1:47I'm excited. I didn't know if I was going to have to take days off and stuff like that, but my body's responded the right way.
1:55And so haven't had to miss anything other than the preseason games, but even for those, I'm going through the warmup process, trying to make myself prepared.
2:04And so I just don't get the one series or whatever it would be.
2:08But other than that, I've done every single rep.
2:11So you're telling me there's a chance. Mahomes, remember it was an ACL back in December.
2:16Kenneth Walker, meantime, has a foot, although it is not thought to be serious.
2:20Walker didn't practice though Tuesday in Kansas City. That is notable.
2:24He made his preseason debut last week and the Chiefs play his former team, the Seahawks, in their preseason finale coming up on Friday night.
2:32All right, let's get to Jamar and here's the headline.
2:35Let's get out of the way. Jamar Chase is OK, but look at this.
2:39The Bengals got a scare today. Chase says he hyper extended his knee.
2:43This looks bad. Said if it were a game, he would have been able to finish the game.
2:49But for around an hour today, we didn't know.
2:52And Bengals fans went to social media and held their breath after Chase limped off the practice field.
2:58I didn't know what happened. I didn't know how I did it.
3:01I just felt something and I just like couldn't walk for a second.
3:05And then I sat down and then that was it.
3:09It's just like a hyperextension, like a hyperextension. It's just freak accidents.
3:12Stuff like this happens all the time. It's football.
3:15Some things are out of my control. And that was one situation that I couldn't control, but I can control now.
3:22OK, it's it's under control. The Aaron Donald situation evidently is under control.
3:26The Rams are two weeks away from flying away to Melbourne, but there is no news on with or whether or not Donald is coming out of retirement.
3:35Twice he has worked out with the Rams and maybe 500 times Sean McVay has been asked about it, including again today.
3:42Here's the latest. Our thought process has been let's look at a 53 with him and a 53 not including him.
3:48And what does that look like? There's some different guys that, you know, you have some potential roster exemptions that we've talked about.
3:56All those things are things that we think about.
3:58And whenever a decision is made, if that is the direction that he goes where he wants to play, then we have, you know, plans accordingly.
4:07And if not, we have plans for those as well.
4:10And have you guys planned in terms of if he does come back but doesn't go to Australia?
4:15Haven't even gotten into all that. You know, it's really more of like truly just take it a day at a time.
4:22And, you know, I know you think it's probably, you know, I'm just being kind of coy, but that's that's really the truth.
4:30And if he decides he wants to be able to do it, then the next conversations are what is your ramp up?
4:37What does it look like to approach whenever that would be the first time that we think would make the most sense
4:44for him to impact and influence positive change with us?
4:47Sean McVay also made a joke today about a gummy, but that's another story.
4:51Meantime in Santa Clara last week, a quad strain today.
4:54It was a groin for Mike Evans, who didn't practice today.
4:58Evans turned 33 last Friday. He played only eight games last year in Tampa, and then he signed that three year, $42 million deal with the 49ers.
5:06Mike Evans injury watch again. OK, in Indianapolis, Alex Pierce also did not practice today, but this is a good story.
5:13Not a bad story because Shane Steichen says we may see Pierce back on the practice field later this week, and that would be huge.
5:21Pierce has not practiced since offseason ankle surgery and notably since getting that four year $114 million deal back in March.
5:27But wait, it's that time of the year we have more practice news.
5:31Christian Gonzalez is back on the field, although it is sunny right now in Foxborough, not snowy.
5:37Remember, Devin Witherspoon got paid in Seattle and many assumed that a deal would be imminent for Gonzalez.
5:43Same draft class. But we're not there yet, Elliott Wolfe.
5:46Nothing new to report on Christian. Wanam here. He's an elite player.
5:49Been on record saying that before. And we're continuing to work with his representation to find a resolution that works for everyone.
5:56Would you view week one as sort of an internal deadline when it comes to his potential extension?
6:02Or would you guys be open to continuing that throughout the season?
6:06We're just kind of taking it a day at a time right now.
6:10We haven't set a deadline. All right, let's go to New York.
6:14You might have missed this on Friday. It was in Pittsburgh, but the Jets look good and you might have missed it
6:21because you have a social life and it was a Friday night.
6:24But Geno Smith went seven for seven on his only drive.
6:28He marched the Jets right down the field. Ten plays, 69 yards and a touchdown.
6:33What do you know? You know, I think obviously it's one drive, but I think we all did a great job of
6:40just going out there and getting points. We had some third down situations that we converted.
6:45You know, we had an explosive play on that drive with the pass to AD.
6:49And usually, you know, coach talks about when you have an explosive on the drive, it usually leads to points.
6:56The percentages of scoring points go up. So, you know, I thought for the most part, we everyone did their jobs.
7:02But like I said, at the end of the game, I think we all can continue to get better.
7:08It's always something positive when you score points. But again, me, how my mind works, I'm looking at the things that we can work on and get better.
7:17And so it's a day to day process. But we're really pleased with the way we started the game.
7:23Love me some Gino. He's 35. He could still sling it.
7:27Here's what he's joining. Yikes. The Jets were. What is the word we're looking for?
7:31Offense. They were bad last year. That is the word we're looking for.
7:35But now they have Gino and now Highland Zerline.
7:38Great to be back with you. Now they have Frank Reich calling the plays.
7:43I know the preseason is a liar. Are you buying the Jets offense being good this year after watching what they did Friday night?
7:50You know, it will be a soft purchase for me.
7:53It's a soft purchase. I'll keep my receipt. But look, this is what I think on that.
7:59You have actual talent at the skill positions. We know Brees Hall can get some damage done on the ground and out of the backfield.
8:07We know what Garrett Wilson is about. I like the fact that Omar Cooper gives you a catch option underneath who can
8:14do some things, you know, after the catch the rookie from Indiana.
8:17But what really excites me is the combination at tight end.
8:21The 12 personnel sets that they can throw out there with Kenyon Sadiq, the rookie and Mason Taylor, who I was very
8:28high on coming out of the 2025 draft. I think when you look at Geno Smith, he's going to have a variety of targets to throw to.
8:36I didn't even mention A.D. Mitchell, who I think has some good upside as well.
8:41So there's some real talent at the skill position.
8:44It's just a matter of Frank Reich working with this veteran quarterback to find out who is going to be his favorite targets.
8:51Then I don't know if Geno is just going to lock in on Garrett Wilson.
8:56I think that with these two tight ends, we could see the Jets really have some some good, strong improvement from all
9:03those twenty nines and thirties and thirty ones. We just saw on the graphic.
9:07So the number was 17 last year for Geno.
9:10You know what that is by chance? Seventeen. Oh, not many touchdowns.
9:14No, he led the league in picks. So I'm with you.
9:17I'm kind of I don't say bullish, but, you know, I would I would maybe make a purchase, but keep the receipt real quick.
9:25Ten seconds. Ian, can he cut down on the picks?
9:28I think he'll cut down, but it's still he look.
9:31He's an interception guy. 1415 could be a good year for him, actually.
9:35I mean, Gino one said they wrote me off, but I didn't write back.
9:40Right right back. Jets. Maybe they could score some points coming up next.
9:44That guy Dan Henley joins us live in L.A.
9:47Who is funnier? His head coach or the offensive coordinator that talks trash in practice to the Chargers defense.
9:53NFL report rolls on. You know, the feeling you make a pick in your fantasy draft in the entire room groans because
10:00they wanted that player or you grab a small school rookie off waivers and you start him right before he goes off in primetime.
10:07There's no better feeling than crushing your fantasy football league.
10:10I'm JJ Zacharyson, host of the late round fantasy football podcast.

10:43Let's give a game ball to Mike McDaniel. This is the preseason.
10:47Game ball to Chris O'Leary. Fourth down stop. Amazing.
10:50Bunch of great calls. We got a locker room full of characters there with the Chargers.
10:55This guy is a character as well. He is an L.A.
10:59native and he's like five minutes down the road from where we are standing now.
11:03Welcome to the NFL report here. Charger linebacker Dayon Hanley.
11:06How are you, man? I'm doing pretty good. I'm having a good day.
11:11It's been hot out here, man. Burning up. But gotta be thankful for this weather, you know, nonetheless.
11:16Yeah. I mean, we could be we could be like in New Orleans and menorrhea at Saints training camp, or Houston with that humidity.
11:24But then honestly, it kind of not that people elsewhere care about our weather day on, but it is different right now.
11:31No, it's definitely definitely different. It's like caught in a heat wave right now.
11:35You feel me? I'm trying to bring in that heat, but you got to find a way to bring the energy.
11:42And that's what this team is doing. Well, you guys have the energy.
11:46You practice. Oh, by the way, at the bolt, which is a ridiculous new facility.
11:51We saw Harbaugh there with McDaniel. Like it's year three for Harbaugh, but it's year four for you, man.
11:57Like what does after career highs and 100 tackles and like, I mean, you were lights out in the playoff game.
12:03What does your four look like for you, dude?
12:06I think I would say more, you feel me?
12:09More career highs. As I see it is my career has a lot more left in it.
12:14And so for me, I have a lot more left to give in myself.
12:19So for me, I just want to keep stacking, keep stacking days, keep stacking weeks, months, games, seasons.
12:24Just, I just want to be able to say that it was more on the table and I'm continually going for it.
12:31Where's the ceiling, man? I don't see one right now.
12:34And that's the best way for me to think.
12:37You feel me? As far as my coaches go, this team, I see no ceiling for myself.
12:43I see no ceiling for each other, for our team.
12:46And I just want to make sure that, you know, we working through that.
12:50A lot of this stuff can be lip service, but you have to put the work in right behind it.
12:57And that's, that's where I'm at right now. The mentality is to keep working and striving for something.
13:02And I know with those coaches we just saw there, they're going to make you put the work in.
13:08Harbaugh's a character. Mike McDaniel, he is a character.
13:11Chris O'Leary, maybe not as much, but you know, he's a different dude.
13:15He's the new DC. What is it like at practice with Harbaugh and McDaniel?
13:20It's exciting. It's exciting. And I want you to understand, Coach O'Leary has just that amount of energy as well to match those guys.
13:27You just don't see them as much in the same light.
13:31But it's crazy when they go back and forth in these, in these practices, it's just like they're ping ponging off of
13:38each other and making sure that they're getting better each self, their selves each day.
13:42And so for me going into practice every day is exciting, bro.
13:46You never know what you're going to get. Coach Harbaugh can have the craziest one liner, but Coach Mike McDaniel will follow right behind him.
13:54And then on the other end, you have Coach O'Leary who's bringing that electric energy every day.
13:59So for us, it's like it's waking up and going to watch a Hard Knocks episode of the Chargers every day.
14:06I'm surprised we ain't been on there yet. We should have definitely had a season right now with these guys because every day is an episode.
14:14Every day is electric. And so for me, it's entertaining.
14:17It keeps you, it keeps you engaged, right? It keeps you engaged.
14:21We're getting to the great work you're doing in the community coming up in one second.
14:26But I got to ask about your quarterback because with that drip that the USC has, I know you see Justin Herbert's eyes.
14:33Yeah. And he's a killer already. Yeah. What is Justin Herbert like now in this new offense?
14:39One, I want to say he loves it. Not only does he love it, but it's starting to become him in the sense of like the ownership.
14:47Obviously, things are new. I can see for myself as well when we talk about the need and how the defense is coming along.
14:55But like with Justin, he dives in so deep into what he's doing.
14:59It becomes him. And so for me out there looking at him from outside looking in, I can see how much time
15:06he spent, how much dedication he's putting into not only studying with Coach Mike, but studying on his own.
15:12Every time I walk past the QB room, his head is down and he's in his notes.
15:17And I mean, that's been the past three or four days.
15:21The guys are talking, whatever's going on around him, his head is down, he's in his notes.
15:26He's trying to make sure that this offense becomes second nature for him.
15:30And so to say that he's locked in is an understatement.
15:34Like I said, the best way to describe this offense is that it becomes him.
15:38So the ownership that I'm seeing from Justin Herbert, it drives and motivates me to study my defense the way I do.
15:45Derwin James is the same way he's our leader.
15:48And he spoke to us today and just kind of told us like, you know, he enjoys being on this team.
15:55And so that kind of just, it just drives us more and more to just fight for him.
16:00Both sides of the ball. All three phases. I know you're a leader as well in the community and on the field,
16:07but the community means a lot to you. You're from here, man.
16:11Crenshaw. Yes, sir. And you want to give back, whether it's in the neighborhood where you grew up or out in the
16:18Palisades as well, which is where you were last week.
16:21Yes, sir. They had to play every game on the road last year.
16:25Obviously, as all of the Palisades in Malibu rebuild from those horrible fires, it's a lot for them.
16:31But here you are there as an honorary captain.
16:34Man, how cool was this? And what did this mean for those kids and for you?
16:39I mean, it was beautiful just to be a part of that community for a short time.
16:44But just to feel like I've been there my whole life.
16:48Everyone was so welcoming from the kids to the parents to the coaches, the team.
16:52It was amazing to be just to be a part of it.
16:56I was honored to not only just be a captain, honorary captain, but also to have my team that I grew up
17:03in, my school play against them that same game.
17:06So for me to have both my communities, in a sense, be there in that moment, just to show that it's united.
17:13And sometimes people have to be reminded that it's more than football.
17:17And for me, it's not about what teams were playing on that field.
17:21It was about supporting Palisades High School and not only that, but the community, because we, the Chargers, know what happened to L.A.
17:28during that time. You know, the whole Los Angeles, everyone that's involved.
17:32And so for us to be able to be a part of that and to show that we are helping hand is
17:39big, not only for me, but just to be a part of an organization like this.
17:44It just shows how much love and respect I have for this building and for the people that's involved in all these decisions.
17:51Yeah, I'm glad you mentioned it's not just you.
17:54It's the team, whether it's nominating Coach Smith for the Don Chulo Award or hosting Palisade High last year at SoFi.
18:01You guys have done so much. And, Dion, I'm just imagining what it would mean for your high school, for Palisade High,
18:07for all of L.A., if you guys finally take that next step this year.
18:12How do you take that grassroots support here and turn it into this team, your team getting over the hump?
18:18I think one thing that I like to talk about all the time is that this team is deep rooting in fight, right?
18:25Just having that fight, that hunger to go do.
18:28And that's kind of like the community that I come from, the Crenshaw District.
18:33You got to have that fight, that hunger to go do.
18:36And with the will that we have as a unit right now, I feel like the hump is near right now.
18:43We're getting over it. And I just feel like this comes from just the dedication, the time spent in the locker room,
18:50on the field, day in and day out. And with just tying that into the community, they're fiending for another championship.
18:56And that's what we want to be able to give them.
19:00And but I know it starts a day, a day's work building block, you know, every day is something.
19:06And so for me to be a community rep in my sense of to be the Crenshaw District to be, if you
19:13look at the rosters in Crenshaw, I mean, in L.A., like being a true native from Los Angeles.
19:18So to give that respect and love to the Chargers, I just can't wait to do that.
19:24So I feel like this is the year to get over that hump and take the drive, the necessary drive as far as we want to go.
19:32Can't wait to see it, man. Dan Henley, best of luck.
19:36Year number four. Go get you some of those Mike McDaniel shades and go stay in the air conditioning the rest of the afternoon, man.

20:11Let's do some quick hits. Get some other news in here.
20:15Not good for Calvin Austin. Carted off veteran wide receiver in New York today.
20:19East Rutherford to be specific for the Giants. He's a former Steeler.
20:23John Harbaugh says, quote, it does not look good.
20:26Okay. Does that open the door maybe for Odell Beckham Jr.
20:29to make the team? This is just me thinking out loud in Detroit.
20:34The news is better for Sam Laporta. He was back at practice today one week after the tight end had a hip
20:40injury in the Lions inner squad scrimmage. So he missed a week.
20:44That's it. Sam Laporta seems to be okay. And Alan Robinson is okay as well.
20:49We want to say congratulations to the 11 year veteran, the wide receiver, the NFL broadcast boot camp veteran who retired yesterday on his 33rd birthday.
20:57Robinson, a Penn Stater, led the NFL in his second season with 14 touchdown receptions.
21:02Alan Robinson took last year off, was last in the NFL with the Lions.
21:06All right. We roll on on the NFL report show number two.
21:10Let's do four downs. Lance Zerline back with us on the home cam.
21:14Lance has an article right now. NFL.com. It's the best and worst cases for 17 rookies.
21:19So first down here for the first overall pick, Lance, Fernando Mendoza, your projection for him this season.
21:25Yeah, I'm looking at about 11 to 12 starts for Fernando Mendoza.
21:29You can see my numbers there. And I base that on the fact that, you know, I do think Clint Kubiak is
21:36going to start off with Kirk Cousins. I think that's a smart move.
21:40But I liked what I saw from him against Houston in the in the joint practice and in the preseason game.
21:46I think Fernando is going to come along a little quicker maybe than expected.
21:51I do think we'll see a solid season fantasy wise.
21:54You know, probably not a factor this year, maybe not even in dynasty leagues, but by next year will be a factor, I think.
22:02But I think he's going to have a solid season, maybe on par could be a little more efficient with than the Cam Ward season last year.
22:10Your best case scenario is that he starts every game.
22:13We both agree that is highly unlikely. You're also giving us scenarios best and worst case for Jadarian Price, who is the
22:20number 32 pick in the first round. Give me a projection for the Seahawks rookie.
22:25Yeah. So he's been splitting first team carries with George Helani.
22:28But George Helani has 25 career carries for 3.3 yards.
22:31Look, this is going to be Jadarian Price's job in the short term to long term, depending on Zach Charbonnet when he returns.
22:39But I do think that we're going to see the very talented Jadarian Price had a legitimate first round grade on him.
22:46And you're going to see why when he gets in there.
22:49I think he's going to approach a thousand yards rushing this year with over 200 carries.
22:54And I do expect him to come close to the double digit touchdown mark as well.
22:59Seattle is going to move the ball. He could be the guy to punch that in.
23:04I also highly recommend watching Hard Knocks tonight. Jadarian Price with the rookie talent show in Nashville.
23:10You should see it. OK, our last two downs, third and fourth down, Lance, are just for you because you are in Houston.
23:17The Texans made a trade yesterday. They made the call and they got Kayshawn Boutte.
23:22They got they got him from the Patriots. They need a wide receiver with Jaden Higgins down.
23:27They didn't give up much. What do you think of the deal?
23:31Love the deal. I think Nick Casario did a great job here.
23:35You had backup depth at safety. The sixth round pick Jalen Reed.
23:38So you're able to move a third or fourth safety and a seventh round pick for a wide receiver who's going to
23:45step in right away and be your second wide receiver on a team who has Super Bowl aspirations.
23:51So in my opinion, a guy with elite hands, great body control and the ability, I think, to step in and be a pro right away.
23:59This is a very shrewd move and a very strong move by Nick Casario to pick up this level player this late in camp.
24:07Also, I mentioned Houston fourth down. The Texans rolled out as all the NFL, the NFC North did today.
24:13The Texans rolled out their rivalry. They're in a Nike rivalry uniform.
24:17What do we think of this? It's Liberty white, H town blue and battle red.
24:21They're going to wear him week 11 against the Colts on Thursday night football.
24:26What do you think? You know, it's been positive, mostly positive from here in Houston.
24:30I've seen some spotty reaction to some of the city jerseys up to this point, but here in Houston, they like it.
24:37They like the rollout with the video that the Texans did with their social media team.
24:42So mostly positive here in Houston. I like it's something completely different than we've seen over the 25 years the Texans have
24:49been in business here in the NFL. So looking forward to seeing how they look in all white.
24:55Okay. Did you on Sunday night watch the Titans as they played the Seahawks on Sunday night football while Fox Sunday night football?
25:02Because we know that there's there's there's some tension between the two franchises.
25:06We know this obviously for yeah, for clear reasons.
25:09They also are wearing these new white uniforms that looked ridiculous.
25:13Ridiculous. Like good. I mean not bad. Right, right.
25:15There's there's a little tension here in Houston because basically Tennessee is wearing the Houston Oilers uniforms.
25:21That's probably what you're referring to. And I can tell you this people in Houston don't love it.
25:27But the people who really don't like it are the ownership here in Houston.
25:31Cal and Hannah McNair. I think they would love to have those colors back here.
25:36The Tennessee owner, of course, Amy Adams Strunk, the daughter of Adams from, you know, but Adams who owned the Houston Oilers.
25:43It's a fun little rivalry in the jerseys are the latest salvo in terms of the shots back and forth.
25:49Yeah, I love them. Now the the Bears ones which I don't think we're going to put on the screen look look
25:56a little bit like Syracuse, but hey, I love it.
25:59They look like an orange man. Caleb Williams is leaving to go play for Syracuse.
