Aaron Rodgers

NegativeRole50:49

Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy have been seen having heated exchanges on the sideline, but multiple reports indicate they are fine. McCarthy said Rodgers thinks it's really good to have this much passion among players, viewing it as an indication of a player-led team. Rodgers and McCarthy sat down multiple times to discuss things, and Rodgers sees the frustration as a positive sign of team leadership.

Insight page

Amon-Ra St. Brown

NegativeInjury0:11

St. Brown (referred to as 'Pastor Tan' in the source) is out for the Denver Broncos.

Insight page

Antonio Williams

PositiveRole10:09

Rookie Antonio Williams is expected to step up with Jayden Daniels, with the team really liking him in that role. The source notes the two have chemistry as well. If Daniels can't run or can't take hits due to his elbow injury, he'll need to dump it off to somebody in a hurry, making Williams a potential target outlet.

Insight page

Baker Mayfield

PositiveRole0:13

Mayfield was actively involved in preparing Jalen Daniels for the short-week game against Dallas, participating in extra quarterback meetings, walkthroughs, and on-field drills including hotel patio sessions on Wednesday night before the Thursday game; the source notes Mayfield was 'in motion' during these preparation sessions.

Insight page

Breece Hall

NegativeInjury0:11

Hall will be out for his team.

Insight page

Brock Bowers

NegativeInjury34:14

Brock Bowers was returning from injury; the Raiders kept details quiet about his return status, similar to their general approach of keeping injury information private.

Insight page

Brock Purdy

PositiveProjection31:28

Brock Purdy has been surgical from a clean pocket this season and is known for navigating the pocket and being elusive; he emphasizes utilizing his legs to get 10-12 yards and move the chains for first downs, which he's doing in a big way heading into the 49ers-Seahawks matchup.

Insight page

Bucky Irving

PositiveUsage0:11

Irving had a huge night in the Buccaneers' 24-16 win over the Cowboys, scoring his second touchdown of the game and posting a career-high 165 rushing yards.

Insight page

Caleb Williams

NegativeInjury0:11

Williams remains questionable and is eyeing a return for the Bears as their quarterback.

Insight page
NegativeInjury44:34

Caleb Williams popped up as questionable on the injury report. He has gotten back into some running and the Bears have a plan in progress with the quarterback involving both running and throwing.

Insight page

D.J. Moore

PositiveInjury54:13

DJ Moore is aggravating his AC sprain heading into Monday night's game against the Rams, which opens the door for Keon Coleman to become Josh Allen's trusted target.

Insight page

D'Andre Swift

PositiveUsage43:38

With Kyle Menungai sidelined by a foot injury, DeAndre Swift is expected to carry a massive load in the Bears' run game. Ben Johnson is not concerned about Swift's two lost fumbles this year, indicating confidence in his role and workload going forward.

Insight page

Dalton Schultz

NegativeUsage0:12

Schultz (referred to as 'Ferguson' in the source) was targeted by Dak Prescott on a second-and-one play in the final Cowboys drive of the game.

Insight page

Deebo Samuel

PositiveRole31:54

Debo Samuel serves as a big safety valve for Brock Purdy to prevent sacks and generate easy yards in the 49ers offense, according to the Seahawks' assessment heading into their matchup.

Insight page
PositiveRole32:06

Debo Samuel has been rejuvenated in San Francisco and is looking like his old self at age 30 after appearing to regress the last year or two; the 49ers are giving him handoffs and easy touches on screen passes to serve as a safety valve for Brock Purdy and protect him from sacks.

Insight page

Derrick Henry

PositiveUsage7:23

With Tyler Huntley starting at quarterback for the Ravens, Derrick Henry will see increased usage in support of the offense. The source notes Henry will be featured both running between the tackles and running on the perimeter as the Ravens attempt to create explosive plays through their scheme adjustments.

Insight page

Deshaun Watson

PositiveProjection23:02

Deshaun Watson has recorded three consecutive game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime for the Browns, putting him in rare company with Tim Tebow and Vince Young. The source notes his execution in the regular season looks vastly different and improved compared to the preseason, and he is chipping off rust week by week. He is using his legs more to extend plays, though he is not the true dual-threat he was in Houston; the Browns are happy to see this mobility despite questions about confidence coming off two Achilles tears.

Insight page
NegativeUsage24:02

Deshaun Watson has already recorded three fumbles in 2024, and the Browns want to see him hold onto the ball more going forward. This is a concern area despite his improved overall execution and performance compared to the preseason.

Insight page

DeVonta Smith

NegativeInjury0:11

Smith will be out for his team.

Insight page

Drake Maye

PositiveProjection35:03

Drake Maye played better last week, providing relief in the Patriots building after he had been on the wrong track and looked shaken for a few games; the source says it was a poor decision-making and confidence issue rather than scheme or injury-related.

Insight page

Emanuel Wilson

NegativeUsage33:04

Emmanuel Wilson received 21 carries last week for the Seahawks due to injuries at running back (Jadarian Price on IR, Zach Charbonnet still recovering from torn ACL).

Insight page

George Pickens

PositiveUsage0:11

Pickens caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Dak Prescott in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys-Buccaneers game; he was not in the game on the previous play but returned to score.

Insight page

Ja'Marr Chase

NegativeInjury0:10

Chase is dealing with a concussion and is questionable for the Bengals-Dolphins game on Sunday.

Insight page

Jadarian Price

NegativeInjury32:52

Jadarian Price, the first-round running back for the Seahawks, is on injured reserve, contributing to Seattle's running back depth issues.

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

PositiveRole0:10

Daniels will need to rely on dump-off passes if he can't run or take hits effectively; the source emphasizes his limited experience with the Buccaneers offense and no prior experience facing the Dallas Cowboys defense, yet he performed well in his second career start on a short week with extra preparation including hotel walkthroughs and cram sessions.

Insight page
NegativeInjury8:08

Jayden Daniels will play against the Giants with a new and larger brace on his thrice-dislocated left elbow. The source indicates this is something he will try to play through and manage. Early word suggests this injury will bring him back sooner than previous elbow dislocations, missing only a couple of games, but questions remain about how close he is to 100% functionality and whether he can escape and trust his body.

Insight page
PositiveRole8:27

Jayden Daniels is returning to action after missing time, as referenced in the episode title indicating his return.

Insight page

Jeremiyah Love

PositiveInjury47:51

Rookie running back Jeremiah Love is trending in the right direction regarding his ankle injury ahead of the Lions-Cardinals game, per head coach Mike LaFleur.

Insight page

Jordan Addison

NegativeInjury47:25

Jordan Addison is questionable with a hamstring injury heading into the Vikings' game.

Insight page

Jordan Love

PositiveMatchup45:45

Jordan Love has been historically dominant against the Chicago Bears with a 13-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio and a 113 passer rating against them—the best passer rating any quarterback has ever posted against the Bears franchise, surpassing Aaron Rodgers' 107 rating. He now has eight touchdowns and three interceptions on the season.

Insight page

Justin Jefferson

NegativeInjury0:11

Jefferson is questionable for the upcoming week.

Insight page
NegativeInjury47:00

Justin Jefferson missed last week's game against the Dolphins and is questionable with an ankle injury heading into the Vikings' matchup against an undefeated Minnesota team.

Insight page

Keon Coleman

PositiveBreakout53:03

Keon Coleman is rewriting his narrative as a reliable playmaker for Josh Allen after two years of being called a bust. In year three, he came in with a different purpose, working with Bills great Stevie Johnson on his release and with trainer Mo Wells. He had 118 yards and a touchdown last week, is sleeping better (a previous issue), and is blocking with a defensive basketball mentality. With DJ Moore aggravating his AC sprain, Coleman has become the guy Allen can trust on Monday night.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

NegativeInjury5:05

Lamar Jackson suffered an unconventional ankle sprain (not high or low) in the first half against the Titans in Week 5 and will miss at least this week against Atlanta; the injury is rare and depends on rehab and functional ability. Head coach Jesse Minter noted Jackson is working hard to return but the team does not know if he will be available next week. The injury is particularly challenging for Jackson's return timeline because his elite athleticism and elusiveness mean he must be the complete package to play, making it harder to get him back on the field.

Insight page
NegativeInjury48:53

Lamar Jackson could miss multiple weeks with a left ankle injury, forcing the Ravens to start backup Tyler Huntley in Sunday night football. The Ravens do not have an exact timeline on his return, though coach Jesse Minter indicated he does not know if Jackson will return next week but will do everything in his power to come back.

Insight page

Michael Pittman

NegativeInjury50:48

Michael Pittman Jr. is out for the Steelers-Colts game.

Insight page

Rashod Bateman

PositiveRole50:28

Wide receiver Rashad Bateman expressed confidence in backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, saying Huntley has Lamar's back and will carry the Ravens along the way.

Insight page

Rico Dowdle

NegativeInjury50:48

Rico Dowdle is out for the Steelers-Colts game.

Insight page

Sam Darnold

NegativeMatchup33:13

Sam Darnold needs to have a strong game against San Francisco to prove the Seahawks can function without their typical running game, which is their built-in offensive identity.

Insight page

Saquon Barkley

NegativeInjury0:10

Barkley has been ruled out after suffering an injury in week four against the Rams; he will miss the Eagles-Jaguars game in London.

Insight page
NegativeInjury10:30

Saquon Barkley has been ruled out after an injury. The source indicates this is a significant development for the Eagles' backfield heading into their London game against the Jaguars.

Insight page

Tank Bigsby

NegativeInjury0:10

Bigsby has been placed on injured reserve; he will not be available for the Eagles-Jaguars game in London.

Insight page

Tee Higgins

NegativeInjury0:10

Higgins suffered an adductor injury in the second half against the Jaguars and is questionable for the Bengals-Dolphins game on Sunday.

Insight page

Terry McLaurin

NegativeInjury9:36

Terry McLaurin is coming back from a hamstring injury and is listed as questionable for the game against the Giants. The source indicates he's looking more like a game-time decision, with the team to know more on Saturday whether he can play. The Commanders want to bring out Daniels and McLaurin together as a package deal, noting the two had serious chemistry during training camp and were locked in scoring touchdowns together.

Insight page

Travis Hunter

PositiveRole21:38

Travis Hunter played all defensive snaps this past week and is expected to play more offense as the year progresses, though the plan remains unchanged. The source reports he has been a star at cornerback with buzz around the league; a Jags coach told the source Hunter will be talked about as a top-five cornerback by next offseason, and a source compared him to Jalen Ramsey 2.0 based on his athleticism and playmaking ability against the Bengals.

Insight page

Tyler Huntley

NegativeRole5:05

Tyler Huntley will start for the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5 against Atlanta in place of injured Lamar Jackson. This marks Huntley's first start in the Declan Doyle era as offensive coordinator. The Ravens are hopeful the offense can function with Doyle calling plays for Huntley.

Insight page
NegativeRole6:57

Huntley steps in for Lamar Jackson with the Ravens hopeful the offense can function with O.C. Declan Doyle pulling the strings. However, Huntley has limitations compared to Jackson—he can't replicate the "crazy cool Lamar things" Jackson does when getting off running and throwing on the run. The Ravens will still try to create explosive plays through motions, shifts, and change of direction before the snap, with heavy usage of Derrick Henry both between the tackles and on the perimeter.

Insight page
NegativeRole49:03

Tyler Huntley will start for the Ravens in Sunday night football against the Steelers in his first start in the Ravens offense. Coach Jesse Minter said Lamar is one of one but the Ravens will build around their playmakers and offensive line. The challenge will be producing explosive plays; Jackson ranked fifth in the NFL with nine passes of 25 yards or longer, while in two starts last season Huntley totaled just one pass over 25 yards. However, players in the locker room insist they have faith in Huntley, with wide receiver Rashad Bateman saying Huntley has Lamar's back and will carry them along the way.

Insight page

Zach Charbonnet

NegativeInjury32:57

Zach Charbonnet has not yet been activated and is still recovering from a torn ACL, leaving the Seahawks without depth at running back.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

NegativeInjury0:11

Flowers is questionable for the upcoming week.

0:47Here's what you can expect from the podcast in our second season.
0:51I would suggest for these preseason games, I think they should do what they do on the NFL draft.
0:57You know, when coverage of the NFL draft is basically for moms.
1:01And they're just like, hey, he has a dog named Spark.
1:05Listen to NFL Cover Zero on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
1:10Hey everybody, welcome to The Insiders, a show that aspires to tell stories about the NFL and its people and their connection to the game of football.
1:19It would be next to impossible to tell that story without telling you about Mike Ditka, who passed away this week.
1:26He was unparalleled as an NFL player, world-renowned as a head coach.
1:30Let's take a look back at the careers and life of Mike Ditka.
1:35We like our people. For those who don't like our people, that's tough s**t.
1:39We like them. Mike, why are you in such a bad mood?
1:43What do you care? I know I'm smarter than that s**t.
1:47If you were 2 and 7, you'd be in a bad mood too.
1:51See that? That's your IQ, buddy. Zero. I'd rather talk to him.
1:55They called him Iron Mike, as much for his demeanor as for his leadership style on the football field.
2:01All you gotta do is want it as much as we know we want it.
2:06We don't want it that much. Let's go! There were few tougher than former Chicago Bears player and coach Michael Keller Ditka.
2:141957, as a high school football player, went to the University of Pittsburgh, and my life has been a miracle since.
2:21Because of this game. He played his college ball at the University of Pittsburgh as a tight end and putter, then signed
2:28with the Bears after they took him fifth overall in the 1961 NFL draft.
2:33He quickly showed that a tight end could be more than just a hard-nosed blocker, racking up more than 1,000 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
2:41Iron Mike Prance is home to record a 67-yard scoring strike.
2:44That earned Ditka rookie of the year honors and the first of five straight trips to the Pro Bowl.
2:51He and the Bears were NFL champions in 1963.
2:54After trades to Philadelphia and then Dallas, he was on top again when he scored a touchdown in the Cowboys' 24-3 Super Bowl VI victory over the Dolphins.
3:03Ditka would enjoy continued success as a Cowboys assistant before taking over the reins for the Bears for 11 years.
3:10Ditka had a 631 winning percentage with Chicago and masterminded one of the NFL's greatest teams, the 1985 Super Bowl Shuffle Bears,
3:17who went 15-1 and steamrolled through the playoffs. The players we had in 1985 are the greatest collection of guys I've ever been around.
3:25His later stint as coach of New Orleans didn't go as well, marked by his decision to deal the team's entire 1999
3:32draft for the right to choose Texas running back Ricky Williams.
3:36But at least Ditka, as always, had a sense of humor about the widely criticized trade, posing while wearing a tux, standing
3:43next to Williams in a bridal gown for the cover of ESPN the magazine.
3:48He was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame in 1986, and two years later became the first tight end to
3:55be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
3:58He was named to the NFL's 75th anniversary team in 1994 and the 100th anniversary team in 2019.
4:04The man known as leader of Da Bears went on to make cameo appearances on TV shows and in the movies, own
4:11a popular Chicago restaurant, and he became a top NFL analyst for us here at ESPN.
4:16I am living proof that an out-of-control coach can get out-of-control players under control if he wants to.
4:22He was often imitated, but never replicated. He was truly one of a kind.
4:27Thank you, thank you, thank you, and go Bears!
4:30Mike Ditka is survived by his four children and grandchildren.
4:33He was 86 years old. We'll have more on Coach Ditka, including some thoughts from those he impacted throughout his career, throughout this episode of the Insiders.
4:42But now to the game that Coach Ditka loves so much in the fifth week of the NFL season.
4:48With that, let's welcome in NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Judy Battista, and Jeremy Fowler as Week 5 got its start last night on Thursday Night Football.
4:57We look ahead to some Sunday action with the Baltimore Ravens, who will not have Lamar Jackson against the Atlanta Falcons in Atlanta for Sunday Night Football.
5:06The ankle injury that came late in the first half against the Titans.
5:11We'll once again have Tyler Huntley coming in in relief of Lamar.
5:15The first start for Huntley in the Declan Doyle era.
5:18His head coach, Jesse Minter, on his quarterback. It's always going to be in the best interest of the player.
5:25And the timing of it, just knowing probably today that this was probably the scenario.
5:29And again, to Lamar's credit, this dude's working his tail off to get back.
5:34He's in there all the time. And so I think, you know, don't know the specifics of next week, but I know
5:41he'll be doing everything in his power to get back.
5:45So Ian, an honest evaluation from the head coach there as they try to figure out how long-term this could be, but
5:52we do know it's at least going to be one week.
5:56Yeah, that is the Ferris assessment. Simply the Baltimore Ravens do not know if Lamar Jackson will be on the field next week to play.
6:04Now we know he is not going to be on the field this week.
6:09Really not much of a surprise. Didn't feel early in the week that Lamar Jackson really had a legitimate chance.
6:15And the team was open to it, said he could play without practicing.
6:19But really it was pretty clear that he was not going to play this week.
6:24Not a high ankle sprain, not a low ankle sprain.
6:28Kind of an unconventional type sprain. A rare sprain really where it just depends on his rehab and how well he can actually function.
6:36And the fact that he is such a good athlete, the fact that he moves as well as he does, has so
6:43much elusiveness, actually makes it a little harder to get him back on the field because he's got to be the complete
6:50package, the Lamar Jackson that is one of the best in the NFL when he plays TBD on next week.
6:57But we know this week, Jeremy, it is going to be Tyler Snoop Huntley capably stepping in.
7:02Ian Huntley steps in and the Ravens know him well over the years.
7:07And they are hopeful that this offense can function with O.C., Declan Doyle pulling the strings for Huntley and that he can
7:14do most of what they do with Lamar Jackson running the helm.
7:18Now, they know that Huntley can't do a lot of those crazy cool Lamar things that he does when he gets off running and throwing on the run.
7:27So we have limitations that way. But the Ravens still want to try to create explosive play.
7:33The Atlanta Falcons are expecting a lot of window dressing, a lot of motions and shifts, change of direction before the snap
7:40so that they can try to create explosive plays.
7:43They will do that with Huntley. You're going to see a lot of Derrick Henry as well in support, both running between
7:50the tackles and running on the perimeter. So their goals remain the same.
7:55It's just a matter of how much Huntley can give them with his tool set not being that of Lamar Jackson.
8:02Let's get to another game coming up on Sunday.
8:05The Giants and the Commanders, the current first place team in the NFC East.
8:09The Giants in taking on the Commanders coming up on Sunday.
8:13They're going to have their starting quarterback back on the field with a new and larger brace on that now thrice dislocated left elbow.
8:21It seemed to indicate, Ian, that this is something he's just going to try to play through and manage.
8:27Yeah, not ideal. Not 100%, but no doubt Jaden Daniels is going to be out there.
8:32And we're going to see what he is going to end up giving them.
8:37Now, for the Washington Commanders, one thing is very clear.
8:40A not 100% Jaden Daniels is better than, well, better than a lot of people, but certainly better than Marcus Mariota, who
8:48is injured and would not play anyway. Any quarterback on the roster, this is the guy you want out there.
8:54How functional is he? How much like the Jaden Daniels that we usually see?
8:59Can he escape and trust his body if he does?
9:02There's a lot of questions going forward for Jaden Daniels.
9:06The early word was that this injury, Jeremy, would bring him back sooner than the previous times that he dislocated his left elbow.
9:13That is true. Only misses a couple games. But how close is he to 100% is a very fair question, what we're going to be watching.
9:22Yeah, and not only that, but who is he going to be throwing to in this game?
9:27Because you have Stephon Diggs now ruled out with a hamstring issue.
9:31We know those hamstrings are tricky, so that could linger a little bit.
9:36And then they have Terry McLaurin coming back from a hamstring.
9:39He is efficiently questionable for this game. I am told that he's looking more like a game-time decision at this point, but
9:47the team will know more on Saturday whether he can really give it a go.
9:51And they want to bring out Daniels and McLaurin together.
9:55They're sort of a package deal. They felt like throughout training camp those two had serious chemistry, were locked in scoring touchdowns throughout camp.
10:03So they want those two guys together. They just haven't been able to get off the ground in that regard.
10:09And watch for rookie Antonio Williams, too, because they really like him stepping up with Daniels.
10:15They have chemistry as well. If Daniels can't run or can't take hits, he's going to have to be able to dump
10:22it off to somebody in a hurry. More injuries in that division.
10:26As we look to London, the second game there in as many weeks.
10:30The Eagles and the Jags. A lot of eyes on the backfield of the Eagles.
10:35Tank Bigsby just went to IR. Saquon Barkley has just been ruled out after this injury in week four that ended his day against the Rams.
10:44We'll have more from London coming up later on.
10:47The Cincinnati Bengals have two big potential absences this weekend against the Dolphins.
10:51Both star widehouse Jamar Chase with a concussion. Tee Higgins, who had an adductor injury against the Jags in the second half.
10:58They are both questionable for the game against the Dolphins on Sunday.
11:02More injuries as we get a look and see that Caleb Williams still questionable, still eyeing a return for the Bears quarterback.
11:10Also questionable for Justin Jefferson, Ashton Gentry, and Zay Flowers.
11:13We do know that Devonta Smith and Brees Hall will be out for their teams, as are Christian Gonzalez of the Patriots, Trey Hendrickson of the Baltimore Ravens.
11:22Pastor Tan also out for the Denver Broncos. We will get Quinjon Mitchell in London and Aaron Donald on Monday Night Football.
11:29Let's look back to how week five got a start.
11:33Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys taking on the undrafted rookie, Jalen Daniels.
11:37We go to the third quarter. The Bucs up 14-10.
11:40Bucky Irving had a huge night. That was the second touchdown of the game.
11:45Had a career-high 165 rushing yards as well. In that fourth quarter, Cowboys down 14.
11:50Dak missed George Pickens on the play before because he wasn't in the game.
11:55He got back in the game, went back to George Pickens.
11:5817-yard touchdown. They were down 24-16 after a failed two-point conversion.
12:02Next Bucs drive, Jalen Daniels has Emeka Abuka, but Deron Bland could have had six points there like he did so many
12:09times in his record-breaking season a few years ago.
12:12Instead, he drops it. Cowboys final drive on offense, second and one.
12:16Dak looking for Ferguson. It goes off his hands, off his face mask, into the hands of Alex Anzalone, and that will do it.
12:24The Buccaneers get their first win of the season, approved to 1-4, 24-16 over the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football.
12:31Primetime road win, Judy, for an undrafted rookie quarterback in his second career start.
12:35Yeah, part of what made this so stunning is we all know how hard it is for players to get ready for
12:43short-week games, especially short-week games on the road. And Jalen Daniels has very little experience with his own offense and no experience facing the Dallas Cowboys defense.
12:51So what did the Bucs do to get him ready?
12:55Well, they had extra cram sessions. They had extra quarterback meetings, extra walkthroughs for him, including, I'm told, on the back patio
13:02of the hotel they were staying at in Dallas on Wednesday night.
13:06Wednesday night into Thursday before they left for the game, they were out there walking through.
13:11I'm told one staffer was coming back from dinner on Wednesday night, looked out the window and saw Baker Mayfield in motion.
13:19The coaches were out there, Baker Mayfield in motion, and Jalen Daniels pretending he was under center.
13:24And they were running the plays, and they did that all the way up until they got on the buses to go to the stadium.
13:32By the way, this all tracks with what they have been saying about Jalen Daniels since this summer.
13:38They love his personality, his ebullience. They also really love that he is a grinder.
13:43It's his work ethic they really love. Tell you what, did not look like an undrafted free agent rookie out there last night.
13:51Some big plays, some big throws. And it was evident early on that this Cowboys defense was going to have its hands full.
13:59And, yeah, obviously the Cowboys defense is getting shredded online and locally in Dallas.
14:03Today, after every loss, that basically is what is going to happen in a place like Dallas, but a couple things I would want to bring up here.
14:13One, Joey Porter Jr., the big-time, high-priced acquisition, did not play, got sick at the stadium, just wasn't able to play.
14:19That is a player they acquired to help improve this defense.
14:23You were not able to see it last night.
14:26The other thing is, you know, this looks like a team.
14:30Cowboys offense was driving. Obviously, they had the interception off Bergen's fingertips.
14:34We saw that. But before that, this defense had made a big stop on fourth down, stopping Sean Tucker on fourth and one.
14:41The defense had its moment. And if you look kind of sideways a little bit, you can see this Cowboys defense improving.
14:49Offense needs to just do its thing as well.
14:52A little early to be talking about the Cowboys in the way, you know, Patrick, people are talking about them.
14:58Yeah, leave the Cowboys alone. They've got a long season.
15:01We'll see how things go. Thanks to Judy and Ian.
15:05Consecutive, pre-consecutive, late game-winning drives for the Browns. What's behind the improvement there in Cleveland?
15:10And two teams seemingly going in different directions. Yeet up in London appearances, though, in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
15:16Haven't deceived before. We look ahead to Sunday morning, coming up next on The Insiders.

17:32The new NFL season is here, and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
17:40Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game, but that was last year.
17:46If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
17:51It is in the name, NFL Daily, fresh content in your feed every day, all season long.
17:56Matthew Stafford coming off his MVP season. On a dazzling dart from Matthew Stafford.
18:01Big time trades that shake up the NFL. AJ Brown is loose!
18:05And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
18:10The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60! They are bringing the Lombardi back to the Northwest!
18:15If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.
18:19Listen to NFL Daily on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
18:24Football's back! Hey, it's Drew Franklin from NFL Cover Zero.
18:27Enjoy the NFL season while listening to NFL Cover Zero.
18:31We have storylines, predictions, and lots of silliness. Here's what you can expect from the podcast in our second season.
18:37When you meet people and you say your job's a sports announcer, it's always interesting to see what the first thing they say is.
18:45I did have one of the more difficult questions, though.
18:48He sits next to me and he sees I'm on my computer and he goes, big sports fan.
18:54And I was like, yeah, actually. And he goes, what do you think about my Jaguars this year?
19:00And I realized, like, no one's ever asked me that question ever about anything.
19:05And I was like, Duval. Listen to NFL Cover Zero on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
19:12We welcome you to London. Come out here and do what you do.
19:17Meet the team, we call it a beat. That's just fun, man.
19:20Go out there and hit him in the mouth.
19:23He is a weapon. How good is that? Are you kidding me?
19:27What a play. I don't know how he did it.
19:31It's not a real must-see NFL TV. Dylan Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles face off against Travis Hunter and the Jacksonville Jaguars from London Sunday, 930 a.m.
19:40Eastern on the NFL Network, also streaming on the ESPN app.
19:43Let's say a good evening to our friends Stacey Dales and Cam Wolf as they look ahead to our second London game of the season.
19:52We've got to start, Stacey, with what second-year head coach Liam Cohen is doing with Trevor Lawrence in this offense.
19:58Yeah, it's really special. The Jaguars landing this morning over in London as we look forward to the 930 Eastern kickoff on Sunday.
20:06Make no mistake about it, gentlemen. These guys were no one-hit wonder last year when they won the AFC South and went 13-4 in the regular season.
20:15What's really interesting about them is the relationship between Trevor Lawrence and Liam Cohen, the head coach.
20:20And Liam Cohen's pulse on this team, you see there on the lower third of your screen, they are currently the 12th-ranked scoring offense in football.
20:29They're the second-ranked scoring defense in football. But going back to last season, which I've shared this week on air, they've won 11 of their last 12 games.
20:38And in the span, that span, they are the number one scoring offense and the number one scoring defense in the NFL.
20:46And it is all about Liam Cohen. I spoke with a high-ranking source this week about this football team and specifically this football coach.
20:53His sharp, cutting-edge approach is so uniquely a part of why this team is successful.
20:58And it was, you know, in terms of hiring Liam Cohen with this organization, they hired him because of his prowess as
21:06an offensive coordinator to pair that with the quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, whom he, from the ground up, changed mechanically last season before our eyes.
21:14Trevor Lawrence is playing at an ultimately high level right now.
21:18But Liam Cohen, they quickly learned his communication, Cameron, with this team and how he impacts with that cutting edge, all three phases, the entire organization.
21:26Liam Cohen is special. And I cannot wait to hear your breakdown of this game because we're going to see this team
21:33once again excel at a high level on both sides of the football.
21:38Yeah, Stacey, Liam Cohen is a culture changer. And Travis Hunter has been a star at cornerback.
21:43That's been the buzz I've heard around the league coming off that game.
21:48He played all of his defenses, all of his snaps on defense this past week.
21:53And all summer, we talked about the offense-defensive split.
21:56He will play more offense as the year goes on, I'm told.
22:00The plan is staying the same. But they are excited about his potential at cornerback.
22:05And I had one source text me, Jalen Ramsey 2.0, when he's making plays against the Bengals, they see his athleticism, they see his playmaking ability.
22:13And I had a Jags coach tell me this offseason, you're going to be talking about Travis Hunter as a top five player at cornerback.
22:21This time next offseason, he looked like it this past week.
22:25Watch him this Sunday against the Eagles. The Jaguars defense loves to play physical.
22:30I talked to their cornerback, Jordan Lewis. He said, we plan to blitz Jalen Hurts a lot.
22:35We plan to press the receivers and try to jump their short passes.
22:40That's what the Rams did. And we think that is our mentality as a defense.
22:45The Jags are here to stay. And they're hoping to make people feel them as they watch them on national TV on Sunday.
22:52An integral part of the Jags being able to get Travis Hunter, the team that traded the pick to Jacksonville.
22:59Those are the Cleveland Browns, the AFC North leading Browns.
23:02As we look at the most consecutive game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime since the merger, Deshaun Watson just had three for the Browns.
23:11What more? He'd be up there with Tim Tebow and Vince Young.
23:15As they passed the eye test recently, the execution looks vastly different, Judy, in the regular season than it did in the preseason.
23:22Well, probably not a surprise. He is chipping off the rust week by week.
23:27And so he's looking better week by week. But one of the things that he's doing more now is using his legs, mostly to extend plays.
23:36Now, he is not Deshaun Watson from Houston, who was a true dual threat quarterback at that point.
23:42But they are happy to see him using his legs with the Cleveland Browns because certainly there were questions about how confident
23:49he would be doing that coming off two Achilles tears.
23:52Todd Munkin said he's never hesitated about it. He's always been willing to do it.
23:57What they want to see going forward is holding on to the ball more.
24:02He's already had three fumbles this year. But certainly from where things looked, as you said, in the preseason, the performance on the field has been much improved.
24:11This is what the Cleveland Browns were seeing the seeds of during practices over the summer.
24:16This is what they thought they could get out of Deshaun Watson if he can remain healthy.
24:22More to come here on The Insiders as we do have reactions still pouring in from around the world regarding the loss of Mike Ditka today.
24:30One aspect about his playing career that helped evolve the game of football itself.
24:35Coming up next on The Insiders. Swagger is another word for confidence.
24:39All you've got to do is want it as much as we know we want it.
24:44You don't want it that much. Go! I'll tell you what, this defense has been incredible.
24:50They knocked your socks off just to watch it.
24:53Total decimation. You're a confident football team and you know what you're doing is right and you know that you're good in
25:00a positive way, not in a flaunting way. You know that you can execute against anybody then.
25:06You've got squadrons. You've got confidence. That's all it is.
25:09Sad news here this morning. Obviously, as far as I'm concerned, Coach Ditka is the gold standard in terms of this place.
25:16I mean, he's a legend around here as a player, as a coach.
25:20His impact is still being felt to this day and as the head coach of the Bears, I feel humbled to be
25:28in that same chair that he was once in and you know, it's a sad day just hearing he's passing on.
25:35I always want to embrace this rivalry, but sometimes in life there are things that happen that are more important than football.
25:42So I just wanted to offer my condolences to the Bears and to the Ditka family in memory of Mike Ditka.
25:49Obviously, a true legend of the game as a player, as a coach and just want to throw that out there.
25:56I never met to, I never got to meet him.
25:59I've been to his restaurant once when I was a little kid, but no, I mean, the things that he accomplished in this game are legendary.
26:08Somebody I, you know, just love growing up now and Ditka was it and, you know, huge fan.
26:14And so when I'm able to come out, you know, I'm getting drafted to go to the combine.
26:20Well, the Saints want to meet with me, in particular, Mike Ditka, right, tied in, hell of a player, hell of a coach, the whole thing.
26:28And so I'm already, you know, like, okay. And I go in, well, I think it's going to, I know he'll be
26:36in there, but it's going to be a little bit, no, no, no.
26:40I go in and it's, it's, there's one little light on.
26:43It's like a little lamp in the corner, you know, it's at the train station.
26:48And there's nothing in there. There's no couches. The room is totally cleaned out and there's one little table.
26:55And the room is full of smoke. I mean, you can't hardly even see him.
27:00You just see this image off in the corner of this little lamp and smoke everywhere.
27:05And he's got that big fat cigar. And it was, it was, it was one of the, one of the best times
27:12of my life and most intimidating times of my life sitting across from Mike Ditka.
27:17It was awesome though, man. Just him asking questions about, you know, where you grew up, how you think, how you're wired,
27:24the game, what you see, what you, it was just, it was, it was awesome.
27:29And so, man, thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
27:33You know, he's a legend. He's a legend. What an amazing experience it was to, to be in the same building, in
27:40the same meeting room, on the same sideline or in the same practice field with Mike.
27:46You know, he was the most competitive person I think you'd ever meet in your lifetime.
27:51A striker shooter, but still a warm side of him, a warm heart.
27:55His first meeting with the Bears, he said, guys, I got good news and I got bad news.
28:01The good news is that we're going to win the Super Bowl.
28:05The bad news is that half of you guys are not going to be here.
28:10And it was true. I mean, so he just told the truth.
28:14He told it the way it was. And that's the way Mike Ditka was.
28:19And I said to him, you know, after a particularly rough week, I said, you know, you really got after our asses pretty good this week, coach.
28:28And he said, you know, Ronnie, I would never ask you guys to do anything I couldn't do.
28:34And that's when I realized that his standard, the way he approached games, he raised that on us.
28:40He expected us to do those things mostly because he had done it before.
28:44And I think that was one of the real arts to coaching is that you can ask players to do things because you've done it before.
28:53You can ask players to do things because you know it's the right thing to do.
28:58And that's kind of what I learned from him and I took from him in my coaching career.
29:04Back now with Judy Batista, just a small glimpse of how Coach Ditka impacted a lot of these people as players, as head coaches.
29:12But then you go back to do you think about the impact he had as a player where entire generations of NFL
29:19fans really don't have access to some of those moments where he'd left an indelible mark on the game on the field.
29:27Yeah, well, what you see out of tight ends now is because Mike Ditka played tight end.
29:32And I was lucky enough to talk to him a number of times over the years about how the tight end position was being played.
29:40When he was with the Bears, he was very proud to be blocking for Gail Sayers.
29:46But George Halas, their coach, also recognized what a great athlete Mike Ditka was.
29:50He was a multi-sports star in college. He also played baseball and basketball in college and he wrestled.
29:56So he was super athletic. And so George Halas started to split him out a little bit away from the offensive line.
30:04Not the way you see tight ends being split out now, like they're playing like wide receivers, but moving him away from
30:11the offensive line so that he would be more of a threat in the passing game.
30:16In his rookie season, he had more than 1,000 yards receiving and 12 receiving touchdowns.
30:21Don't forget they were playing 14 games at that time.
30:24A few years after that, he had 75 receptions.
30:27Tight ends just were not playing like that. They were still largely blockers at that time.
30:33So he really helped revolutionize the position. He was amazed at what tight ends are doing now.
30:38He said tight ends are so big, that was the size of their linemen at that time.
30:44But really, the way tight ends are playing now is because of the way Mike Ditka played tight end.
30:50Yeah, thank you, Judy. We'll have more chances to look back at the life and times of Mike Ditka coming up right after our show.
30:59His football life will be on NFL Network. We've got some solid divisional matchups coming up in the NFL this week, including a playoff rematch from 2025.
31:07It is the 49ers traveling to Seattle to take on the Seahawks.
31:11Could be one of those force versus object games.
31:14Look at the pass rush win rate around the NFL.
31:18Last 10 seasons, first four games, the 2026 Seahawks right there, 69.1%.
31:22But on the other side, the most consecutive games without allowing a sack since 1963, the 2026 49ers.
31:28There with just four games, no sacks. As Jeremy Fowler is back with us, Brock Purdy has been good everywhere this season.
31:35But from a clean pocket, he's been surgical, Jeremy.
31:38Yeah, the Seahawks are going to try to change that sack streak in a big way this weekend.
31:44But Brock Purdy right now knows how to navigate the pocket, and he knows how to be elusive.
31:50It was funny. I was at training camp a couple months back.
31:54I saw Brock Purdy moving around. I said, hey, man, you're kind of sneaky fast.
31:59He said, well, I'm not a 4-4 guy, but I am trying to emphasize more and more every year to utilize my
32:06legs to get 10 yards, 12 yards when I can, move the chains, and get some first downs.
32:12He's doing that in a big way. And also, Patrick, when I talked to the Seahawks this week, they said a big
32:19safety valve for Brock Purdy to make sure he's not sacked and get easy yards is Debo Samuel.
32:25He has been rejuvenated in San Francisco. He's looking like his old self.
32:29He's 30 years old. He looked like he was regressing the last year or two, but now it looks good, so they're giving him handoffs.
32:38They're giving him easy touches on screen passes. That helps protect Brock Purdy as well.
32:43Yeah, shades of the peak Debo season we had a couple years ago.
32:47Oh, sorry. No, no, that's all right. Everybody wants to talk about Debo Samuel.
32:52I had a great chat with him when I was in San Francisco for training camp.
32:57He was so excited about being back, and he has done everything he wanted to do and more with the 49ers.
33:04By the way, the Seahawks would love to have those kind of options taking handoffs.
33:09It has been a battle at the running back position for them.
33:13Jadarian Price, the first-round running back. He is on IR right now.
33:17Zach Charmin has not yet been activated. He is still trying to come back from that torn ACL, which is why you
33:24saw Emmanuel Wilson get 21 carries or whatever it was last week, which is why for this week's game, what you really
33:31need to see is Sam Darnold have one of those games that remind you of why he is the Seahawks franchise quarterback.
33:39One of those games where he reminds you of we can make this work even without the kind of running game that we are built on.
33:47This is going to be a fascinating one on Sunday.
33:51The Seahawks a little bit shorthanded, but I'm not sure the San Francisco 49ers really will be feeling sorry for them, Patrick.
33:58Yes, the rivalry continues. He's looking forward to that coming up on Sunday.
34:02The Raiders traveling to Foxborough this weekend to take on the New England Patriots, who are dealing with some significant injuries on their own.
34:10Chris Gonzalez, Colton Davis, both corners out. Mack Hollins out as well.
34:14Jalen Naylor out with a concussion. Ashton Gentry listed as questionable dealing with that ankle injury.
34:19Let's see if we can get some more insight, Ian, in a less nebulous manner.
34:24Tell us about Ashton Gentry's ankle. Well, it's still going to be a little nebulous because the Las Vegas Raiders have generally
34:32tried to keep things pretty quiet on injury. We saw that the week Brock Bowers was returning.
34:37We always knew Brock Bowers was returning, and then no one really said anything about it.
34:42Similar situation for the Raiders, but here's what we know.
34:46Ashton Gentry was a full participant earlier in the week.
34:49Wednesday, no big deal. Foot and ankle injury was very limited on Thursday and then was not able to practice today.
34:56In fact, he's listened as questionable. It means at least he's got a shot, but he is one of the best young
35:03runners in the NFL and a linchpin of their offense.
35:07So his availability was huge when it was a big-time game for the Raiders, Fowler.
35:12Yeah, Ian, and the Patriots are trying to build off the sliver of momentum they have with Drake May playing better last week.
35:19And let's be honest, there was relief in that building that he did play better.
35:24He was on the wrong track and looked shaken for a few games there, just playing really poorly.
35:30But talking to people with the Patriots, they said, look, it was just a poor decision-making issue.
35:36Maybe a little bit of confidence, but they weren't trying to overplay it.
35:40It wasn't a scheme-related issue. It wasn't an injury-related issue.
35:43So they felt like if he could just settle down and make some good decisions, he would get back.
35:50And one thing they noticed last week is he was doing a better job of throwing his wide receivers open, throwing with
35:57anticipation, being more decisive and accurate in that way.
36:00That helped get them on the winning circle. And then, look, eventually they will have A.J.
36:05Brown back in the coming weeks to help Drake May.
36:08A resurgent performance from Drake May perhaps giving some hope to other teams that need their quarterbacks to bounce back trouble for
36:16both the Broncos and the Chargers, a litany of injuries.
36:19Pat Bryant, Pat Sertan, and Rowley Moss both starting corners, both starting tackles for the Chargers.
36:24Familiar situation for them. Quinton Johnston out as well.
36:27Sean Slater gets placed on IR. And, Ian, a couple offenses that maybe need some help, some changes, as we get a
36:35chance to see Sean Payton watching the former quarterback call the plays.
36:39How long does Davis Webb have left calling the plays?
36:42No, it is over for Davis Webb. He is not going to be the play caller this week for the Denver Broncos.
36:49That one shouldn't say over. There's always a chance that Sean Payton goes back to him.
36:54But Payton made it very clear. He's running the show this week.
36:58Davis Webb talking to reporters earlier today, basically saying it was less than ideal, which is an extremely nice and classy professional way of saying it.
37:07But there's no bones about it. I mean, this is a rising offensive coordinator who's one of the brightest minds in the
37:14NFL, who's a head coach candidate, and Sean Payton took play calling from him.
37:19The problem with all of this, Fowler, is that Sean Payton is one of the best play callers in the NFL.
37:26The Broncos held on to Davis Webb by giving him play calling, knowing that Payton was there and could take it back.
37:33The fact that he is will provide a little bit of a bounce for the team.
37:38And it sucks to be Davis Webb. It definitely sucks.
37:42But how can you argue with letting Sean Payton do what he has done, maybe better than anyone else in the NFL
37:49for the last 20 years or so? Yeah, Ian, it's a tough deal because they saw how bright Davis Webb was as
37:56a coach, but he was still relatively green just three-plus years as a coach in any NFL capacity coming off his playing career.
38:04So they had to decide, do we continue to try to develop a play caller, knowing we're trying to win a Super
38:11Bowl, or do we go back to, like you said, one of the very best play callers that we've ever seen in the league in this generation.
38:20And so here are a few things I'm told the Broncos are trying to sort out in real time with this switch.
38:27They're trying to get Bo Nix more comfortable taking more shots.
38:31They feel like he's aggressive by nature, but hasn't quite been playing that way.
38:36And it could be because the sequencing of things and how they're calling the game and setting up the run in the
38:43pass, they feel like will help Bo Nix. And also just from a simple format, they want to get the running game and specifically the running backs going.
38:52Their trio of their three backs, J.K. Dobbins, R.J.
38:55Harvey, Jonah Coleman, just a total of 68 rushes for those three players in four games.
39:01That's simply not enough to try to establish the run.
39:04Thank you, gentlemen. Looking forward to the Bears and the Packers coming up this weekend where a Green Bay team looking to
39:11bounce back from some rough performances on the ground.
39:14That's coming up next on The Insight. Hey, everyone.
39:17I'm Mike Yam. And I'm Trevor Sykema. And together we host the NFL Fantasy Football Show.

41:28The new NFL season is here, and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
41:35Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game, but that was last year.
41:41If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
41:46It is in the name, NFL Daily, fresh content in your feed every day, all season long.
41:52Matthew Stafford coming off his MVP seat. On a dazzling dart from Matthew Stafford.
41:56Big-time trades that shake up the NFL. H.A. Brown is loose!
42:00And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
42:05The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60! They are bringing the Lombardi back to the Northwest.
42:10If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.

42:19Football's back! Hey, it's Drew Franklin from NFL Cover Zero.
42:22Enjoy the NFL season while listening to NFL Cover Zero.
42:26We have storylines, predictions, and lots of silliness. Here's what you can expect from the podcast in our second season.
42:32When you meet people and you say your job's a sports announcer, it's always interesting to see what the first thing they say is.
42:40I did have one of the more difficult questions, though.
42:43He sits next to me and he sees I'm on my computer and he goes, big sports fan.
42:49And I was like, yeah, actually. And he goes, what do you think about my Jaguars this year?
42:55I realized, like, no one's ever asked me that question ever about anything.
43:00And I was like, do you know what I'm saying?
43:03Listen to NFL Cover Zero on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
43:09Back on the Insiders, the Bears and the Packers.
43:12Week 5 matchup sees Caleb Williams listed as questionable, along with Javon Hargrave of the Packers.
43:17But Kyle Menungai will be out for this game, and DeAndre Swift is expected to play with hip and knee injuries.
43:24As we go back to Stacey Dales, who was there at Hallis Hall today, where the flags were at half-staff.
43:30Stacey, in honor of Coach Ditka. Yeah, sad day across the Chicagoland, the state of Illinois, the football landscape.
43:37Our condolences to the Ditka family, certainly and to the Chicago Bears.
43:41You know, I can remember seeing clips of Coach Ditka, who called it an absolute, the greatest honor of his life to coach the Chicago Bears.
43:49And he showed us why tight ends are so important.
43:53And as Ben Johnson said, the gold standard for coaching.
43:56There will be a game on Sunday between these two franchises, the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.
44:02And for these Bears, Kyle Menungai is a huge injury.
44:06We just saw him run for 30 carries against the Jets, nearly 150 on the ground, two touchdowns.
44:11He's got that toe injury or the foot injury, which means DeAndre Swift is going to carry a massive load.
44:18Ben Johnson is not concerned at all about the two lost fumbles for DeAndre Swift this year.
44:24I do believe he's going to get a massive load.
44:27And Tyson Bajant looks to be the starter. It was interesting that Caleb Williams popped up as questionable on the injury report.
44:34I know he's gotten back into some running. They have a plan in progress with this quarterback, Caleb Williams, and certainly throwing a little bit.
44:43But when you think about the run game, 196 yards leads the NFL per game, nearly 200 yards rushing.
44:49Jonathan Gannon has his hands full. The defensive coordinator this week, Patrick, for these Packers, in trying to figure out how to defend what Ben Johnson does.
44:58He called it this week just so schematically and technically sound, and he is working feverishly to put together a game plan
45:05to slow this thing down even without Kyle Menungai.
45:08And, Stacey, what we're used to seeing is a stylistically sound offense in Green Bay.
45:13It's had its struggles, but they did get a win in Tampa Bay last week.
45:18Jordan Love now has eight touchdowns, three interceptions. How do they get this offense going against the Bears at home?
45:25Got to protect it. He's been getting the ball out super quickly.
45:29Got to protect him. And we saw 13 personnel last week for Jordan Love and company.
45:3416 plays they rented. I think it's probably the highest number, if I had to go back and look at our research
45:41packet, in NextGen stat history in the last decade.
45:44And so Dennis Allen, the defensive coordinator there, is preparing for that.
45:48But listen, let's just be real here. Jordan Love has been so historically successful against the Chicago Bears 11, or excuse me,
45:5513 to 2 in terms of his touchdown to interception rating.
45:59He has a 113 passer rating. Listen to this, against the Bears historically, that is the best against this franchise of any quarterback ever.
46:07I thought Aaron Rodgers would be there, Patrick, but his historically has been a 107 passer rating.
46:13Passer rating is all about efficiency. Dennis Allen is going to prepare to blitz the heck out of, I think, Jordan Love
46:20because that's what the Bears do this year. They have an outstanding defense.
46:24Their blitz rate's sixth in the NFL right now.
46:27It's coming from all different places at the line of scrimmage and the second level.
46:32And so I think, you know, to get him off rhythm, that's the focus for Dennis Allen.
46:38How can we break the rhythm of Jordan Love and disable how good he has been against the Chicago Bears?
46:44That'll be the key in quite a contest on Sunday.
46:48Yeah, a couple good teams in a really good division where both of those teams are looking up at a undefeated Minnesota
46:55Vikings team with Kyler Murray at quarterback. The trouble is they've got some wideouts battling injuries.
47:00Justin Jefferson missed last week against the Dolphins. He's questionable with an ankle injury.
47:05Also, Jordan Addison questionable with a hamstring injury. Elsewhere, a game where there could be more than a few touchdowns.
47:11The Lions and the Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said rookie running back Jeremiah Love is trending in the right direction regarding his ankle ahead of the game.
47:21And the Lions defense has been missing big pieces of its secondary all season.
47:25But the 21-day practice evaluation window has returned for safety.
47:29Brian Branch as he recovers from the Achilles injury that ended his 2025 season.
47:33The Baltimore Ravens going into Sunday night football without Lamar Jackson on the road.
47:38How things will look for Snoop Huntley in his first start in a new offense.
47:43A report for Owens Mills coming up next on The Insiders.
47:47We're back on The Insiders. The Baltimore Ravens having to go with their backup quarterback as Lamar Jackson could miss multiple weeks with a left ankle injury.
47:55Jamison Hensley reports ahead of Sunday night football from Owens Mills.
47:59I asked Ravens coach Jesse Minter, what's the difference with this offense when it's Tyler Huntley at quarterback and not Lamar Jackson?
48:06Minter told me, Lamar is one of one. But this is the Ravens offense.
48:11They will build around their playmakers and their offensive line.
48:14For the Ravens, the challenge will be producing explosive plays.
48:18Jackson ranked fifth in the NFL with nine passes of 25 yards or longer.
48:22In two starts last season, Huntley totaled just one pass over 25 yards.
48:27But the players inside this locker room insist they have a lot of faith in Huntley.
48:32Wide receiver Rashad Bateman told me, Huntley has Lamar's back and he's going to carry us along the way.
48:38The Ravens don't have an exact timeline on when Jackson will come back.
48:42Minter told me, he doesn't know if Jackson will return next week, but he does know he will do everything in his power to come back.
48:51That's right, let's look at the Steelers and the Colts' injury status.
48:55Jalen Ramsey is out. Rico Dowdle is out. Michael Pittman Jr.
48:59out as well as we've got Jamel Dean. So we've got a cornerback.
49:03We've got wide receivers that are out. Judy, but we also get a lot of reaction shots of Aaron Rodgers.
49:10Are he and Mike McCarthy okay? Everything is kumbaya back in Pittsburgh.
49:14They're fine. This is how people who have been together a long time talk to each other sometimes when they are frustrated.
49:21Actually, these two sat down multiple times to talk about things.
49:24Mike McCarthy said that Aaron Rodgers thinks it's really good to have this much passion among players.
49:30Remember, you saw TJ Watt also screaming at defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
49:34Aaron Rodgers thinks that is the indication of a player-led team and that is good.
49:39They did spend some of the mini-buy self-scouting and looking at how they can clean up their missed tackles, which were a real problem last week, Patrick.
49:48The frustration is a little more internal for the Houston Texans who have seen things really go poorly at the start of
49:55the last two seasons, but notable differences in points per game and opponents' points per game, but helps on the way as
50:02we're back with Ian Rappaport as another team gets a good play caller back.
50:07That's right. D'Amico Ryan's taking back play calling this week.
50:10Now, it's a fascinating situation because Matt Burke rose to one of the better assistants, one of the more decorated assistants in
50:18the NFL, helped the Texans become the best defense in the NFL last year.
50:22Four games in, communication issues, players just simply not making enough plays, allowing big plays.
50:27Next thing you know, to streamline things, D'Amico Ryan steps in.
50:31That's just how it goes sometimes. We're going to see the impact he can have on this defense and the fact that
50:38they're playing the Tennessee Titans in an offense that has struggled surely will help his cause.
50:430-4 versus 0-4, but it's a matchup of two very good offenses in SoFi Stadium on Monday night.
50:49It was a great one the last time Josh Allen came to take on Matthew Stafford and the Rams.
50:56We'll look ahead to this matchup next on The Inside.
50:59Back on Sider Saturday, it's the SEC on ABC first.
51:02Texas A&M travels to number 14, Missouri. Then the Red River rivalry, number one, Texas versus Oklahoma from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
51:10And the nightcap, number two, Georgia. Heads to Tuscaloosa to take on number six, Alabama.
51:15And speaking of the University of Alabama. If I can turn up the world win, I can see it!
51:21Nick did a very good job of hiding the total human being.
51:25Alabama wins! I'm driven to make ordinary people want to do extraordinary things.
51:29Genius. Traitor. Champion. I just recall the ass-chewings. He didn't get it.
51:33There was a method to that madness. Seventh national championship.
51:37Right now is the time. We fight! We fight!
51:40We fight! We fight! Saban presented by Verbo, the man, the coach, the process.
51:44Six-part series available to stream now on the ESPN app.
51:48Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles face off against Travis Hunter and the Jags from London Sunday 9.30 a.m.
51:54Eastern on NFL Network streaming on the ESPN app.
51:57Then don't miss Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills taking on Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium Monday
52:04at 8 o'clock Eastern on ABC ESPN and on the ESPN app.
52:08In that game, the Rams will get a chance to get future Hall of Fame defense tackle Aaron Donald back as he
52:15missed that game against the Eagles with a back injury.
52:19He'll be back against the Bills right across the street on Monday Night Football.
52:23Ian, what can you tell us about Aaron Donald and that back injury?
52:28Aaron Donald being a full participant today in practice.
52:31A good sign that he is on track to be back Monday night and this is essentially what the team thought that it would be.
52:39One week with a back injury feel a little better, heal up a little bit, then get back on the field and
52:46slowly, very slowly, Patrick, this Rams defense is nearing completion.
52:50Just need Miles Garrett to get out there as soon as he possibly can to do it.
52:55Ian, the Bills X Factor on Monday will be receiver Keon Coleman who is rewriting his narrative as a reliable playmaker for Josh Allen.
53:03The last two years people have been calling him a bust.
53:07GM Brandon Bean told me he's come into year three with a different purpose.
53:11He had 118 yards in the touchdown last week.
53:14So I dived into why. Turns out Coleman knew this was a make-or-break year.
53:19Went to San Diego to work with Bill's great Stevie Johnson.
53:23He went and worked on his release with his trainer Mo Wells and he came back playing free and in rhythm.
53:30He's sleeping better, which was a previous issue. He's blocking with a defensive basketball mentality and with DJ Moore aggravating his AC
53:37sprain up in the air for Monday, Coleman has become the guy that Allen can trust on Monday.
53:43Looking forward to that game on Monday night. Looking forward to a nice early start here on Sunday on the NFL Network
53:50with the game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Ian Rapoport, Cam Wolfe, Stacey Dales, Judy Batista, Jeremy Fowler.
53:56Thanks for watching the Insiders, Mike Ditko, a football life coming up next on NFL Network.
