0:00This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed Human. We'll see you next time.
0:04Let's dive into the NFL: The Insiders. So that Aaron Donald thing finally happened.
0:09Will the future Hall of Famer be on the field in Australia?
0:13Will the results live up to the hype? We have that story coming up for you.
0:18Meantime, George Kittle make the trip to Australia. We have the latest from San Francisco on his possible return from injury for week number one.
0:27And why are all the cool kids keeping four quarterbacks?
0:30Trevor Sikama is here to take a swing at that one.
0:34It's the NFL Report and it's now... Welcome to the NFL Report, friends.
0:38Hi there. My name is Andrew Siciliano. We are a brand new show at 7 p.m.
0:44Eastern Time every day on the NFL Channel. We're also a podcast.
0:48We're also on YouTube. We're also fun. So join us every day.
0:52Coming up, what are the Green Bay Packers going to do at running back now?
0:57But first, what's news to me? I don't know.
1:00Maybe you had a life on Sunday. Maybe just maybe you lost your phone.
1:05Maybe you didn't see that Aaron Donald decided to come out of retirement.
1:09Yes, he is officially back. But two questions. Number one, is he still the same guy?
1:14And number two, is he going to be ready in time for week number one?
1:20Do I feel like I can play at a high level?
1:23Yes. Do I feel like I can still be myself?
1:27A hundred percent. If I didn't feel like that, I wouldn't be here.
1:31So, you know, from everything I did, you know, from training, we're just conditioning to the football transition and doing football drills and things in that nature.
1:40I recorded everything. I studied myself to a tee, watched every movement, every cut, every hit flip.
1:46In my opinion, I don't see no difference. If not, it looked a little cleaner to me.
1:52You know, two years, body feel a little different.
1:55But it's still got to go out there, play 11 on 11, get myself going and get myself where I need to
2:02be as far as like playing football again. So, all right, that'd be scary if he's actually better than he was last time.
2:10There's Donald on the practice field Sunday, who's also on the field today, Monday.
2:15Officially, the Rams do have a two week roster exemption.
2:18That means they can still carry 54 into week one in Australia.
2:22They don't have to play him in Melbourne against the 49ers.
2:26Excited to be able to just take it a day at a time.
2:30There's I'm not going to talk about, you know, any sort of plans.
2:35It's going to be a day at a time for us.
2:38What does that mean for Australia? You know, the first step was, all right, if you're coming back, let's let's do that.
2:46Let's get you out on the practice field. Let's get you acclimated to your teammates, to your coaches.
2:52And then we'll see what that ramp up period looks like, whether or not he's available or whether or not we think
2:59it's best to be able to play him in Australia.
3:03And I think the best way to do it is take it one day at a time.
3:08But we're obviously excited to be able to have him back.
3:12All right, Sean, keep this in mind when you look at these numbers here.
3:17This is totally absurd. Aaron Donald leads the league in TFL since 2014, and he hasn't played the last two years.
3:24He's got 24 Trevor Sykema, more TFLs than Cam Jordan and like 25, 26 more than Miles Garrett.
3:30And again, Trevor, good to see you. He has not played in the last two years.
3:36There's a hype machine going right now. Obviously, this is the lead story on on major news networks.
3:42What if it doesn't work, though? Like, is there any part of you that thinks it may not go as smoothly as everyone thinks?
3:50So I think that there is another side of the coin where maybe it doesn't go nuclear, right?
3:56Maybe Aaron Donald isn't finishing between 15 and 20 sacks like some people think is possible.
4:01Now, I want to be clear that is possible.
4:04But I think what's more likely for Aaron Donald is moments for him, maybe not the whole game.
4:10I don't think this is going to be exactly the Aaron Donald that we've seen in the past, although I do think
4:18that what he said in his soundbite is very valuable, and that is that he's taken off of football for the last two years.
4:26So I bet that body's feeling real good and real rested.
4:30But I think you want to make sure that that feeling is sustained throughout the season.
4:35They don't need him on every rep their defensive line.
4:38I mean, part of the Aaron Donald conversation here is everyone's going to list.
4:43Oh, they've got Miles Garrett. They've got Byron Young.
4:46They've got Kobe Turner. They've got Braden Fist. They've got Puda Ford.
4:50Okay, well, I think those guys are the guys that you're going to want out there the majority of the time.
4:57You want Aaron Donald out there for moments. You want Aaron Donald out there for the way that he finished the Super
5:05Bowl by getting a sack of Joe Burley, right?
5:08You want more of that. And whatever the, you know, I guess rotation is probably the best way to say it.
5:15Whatever rotation gets that Aaron Donald the entire season in the postseason.
5:19I think that's exactly what you want. Yeah, it's the old thing like who you got to double team.
5:25You have them both on the field. You can't double team both of them.
5:30I guess you could potentially go max protect every single time, but that isn't ideal.
5:35It's like a baseball lineup. You have someone protecting your slugger.
5:39Well, it's like who you're going to pitch to who you're going to double right here.
5:44And now you have two Hall of Famers. They're the greatest of all time.
5:49And Kobe Turner and Byron Young, those guys conveniently who have not yet signed extensions will likely eat and they will eat
5:57well if you have to double team everyone. I was trying to go through Trevor.
6:02What is the worst case scenario? And I promise you, I'm not trying to live in the negative here, but I'm kind
6:09of like Kyle this morning on GMFB. And that is all right.
6:13I am buying the hype. But Trevor, what is your worst case scenario here?
6:18Let's live there. The worst case scenario is exactly what you said.
6:22And that's the fact that you simply still have to care about Aaron Donald.
6:27The worst case scenario might be five sacks himself, but it's the fact that you like you just mentioned his presence.
6:34If he's on the field, you have to care about him.
6:38You have to notice him. You have to pay attention to him.
6:42That's worst case scenario. And that's pretty good place to be in and well worth it.
6:47Tampa Bay Trey joining us on the NFL report.
6:50Good to see you, sir. Let's do this again soon.
6:53Don't go anywhere. Trevor coming right back. Let's get some other news from around the NFL.
6:59How about that Odell Beckham Jr. guy? What do you know?
7:03He made the Giants for the first time since getting traded off the Giants back in 2019.
7:08He's officially back. Since then, he has played for, can you name them all?
7:13The Browns, the Rams, won a Super Bowl, the Ravens and the Dolphins.
7:17Odell turns 34 in November. Will he have Malik neighbors on the field with him week one on a Sunday night against the Cowboys?
7:26Don't know. Malik noncommittal for any specific game return.
7:29He was on the podium today. This is a Pat Leonard tweet from the New York Daily News.
7:35So he could be back. The question I think is fair to ask if and when he is back, and let's say it's week one.
7:43Will he be the same? Hey, all of you who thought J.J.
7:47McCarthy was going to get cut or traded, that did not happen.
7:51Don't believe that hype. The 10th overall pick from 2024 did make the Vikings.
7:56They initially kept four quarterbacks in Minnesota, but Max Brosmer was waived on Monday.
8:01Sunday was cut down day, 6 p.m. Eastern time.
8:04There are a lot of notable moves out there, including these guys put on IR or PUP, meaning they're not going to begin the season.
8:12Most notably, Micah Parsons and Jordan Tyson on the right of the screen.
8:17Tyson, the rookie wide receiver, is out for a minimum of four games.
8:21There are also three notable players put Ian Rappaport on the commissioner exempt list.
8:26Yeah, there's some serious legal news yesterday involving Josh Jacobs and others.
8:30We'll start there, though, with the starting running back for the Green Bay Packers.
8:35Was officially placed on the commissioner's exempt list after being charged with two misdemeanors earlier in the week.
8:41Now, this stems from a domestic situation three months ago where Josh Jacobs was accused of a lot of things, including domestic violence.
8:49The official charges, though, were two misdemeanors, not a charge of domestic violence, which his lawyers then made a statement and pointed
8:56out that basically he was not charged in this domestic incident.
9:00The NFL has still taken him off the field.
9:03And what they could do is they could wait for the legal process to play out or they could just do it
9:10now and potentially have this serve as his punishment.
9:13So Josh Jacobs will not be on the field for the Green Bay Packers, which is why they traded for running back Caleb Johnson yesterday.
9:22Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos also face a similar situation with their start pass rusher Jonathan Cooper.
9:27He was also placed in the commissioner's exempt list.
9:30This stems from an incident in this past offseason, two incidents actually involving a former girlfriend.
9:36Cooper faces five charges, including secondary assault, which is a felony legal process ongoing, but not on the field while it plays out.
9:43You know the feeling you make a pick in your fantasy draft in the entire room groans because they wanted that player.
9:51Or you grab a small school rookie off waivers and you start him right before he goes off in primetime.
9:58There's no better feeling than crushing your fantasy football league.
10:01I'm JJ Zacharyson, host of the Late Round Fantasy Football Podcast.

11:36We're going to wrap up the NFL Network and GMFB.
11:40Sean Payton, for what it's worth, today said they will follow the league when it comes to Cooper.
11:46We're going to follow this coming up next on the NFL Report.
11:50Your quarterback report from the final week of the preseason.
11:53So the preseason is mercifully over. You might have missed some of these highlights, or let's just look at some of the
12:01quarterbacks from the final week of games, including the number one overall pick.
12:05That is Fernando Mendoza. If you want to go back to Thursday, the Raiders and the 49ers, as the Raiders had a home game in Vegas.
12:14Little play fake, and yeah, that's not good. He had a little bit of a window, kind of put too much gas on that thing.
12:22Mendoza picked off by Tatum Bethune, the second year DB.
12:26As we get the second look, the Dylan Lauby hard play fake, and a little high.
12:31Bethune comes down with it. The final numbers for the preseason for Fernando Mendoza, 25-45.
12:36He did throw a touchdown. He threw a couple of INTs.
12:40He was sacked four times. This by Keon White, the former Patriots first rounder.
12:45A passer rating, Clint Kubiak, stare to the sky, a 59.5.
12:48It's going to be Kirk Cousins week one, even if it is an official.
12:53But consider this from Josh Dubow from the AP.
12:56Mendoza's rating of 59.5 in the preseason ranks 32 out of 36 when it comes to first round quarterbacks who played in a preseason as a rookie.
13:05This in the last 11 years ahead of only Goff, Jameis, Richardson, and Carson Wentz.
13:10Should be noted, Zach Wilson and Kenny Pickett are in the top five.
13:15So just consider that. Also consider what Zavion Thomas did on Saturday afternoon in Nashville.
13:20First play from scrimmage. We didn't speed that up.
13:23That's real speed. That's ludicrous speed. The first rounder, rather the third round pick at LSU, the 89th overall pick of the
13:30first play from scrimmage, gets Tyson Bajan to hit him on a 97-yard touchdown.
13:35As Zavion had a 179-yard game. That's total yardage, including yards in special teams as well.
13:41He had a 39-yard punt return and a 22-yard kick return.
13:44If you're wondering if Zavion Thomas, who caught five for 140, made the team, the answer is yes, the young man made the football team.
13:53Where does that 97-yard touchdown from Tyson Bajan rank?
13:56Longest TD reception of the preseason in the last 20 years.
13:59DeMaurier Stringfellow. Anybody remember him in 2017? Raise your hand.
14:03Okay, put it down. You're lying. Keelan Cole stuck around for a little bit in 2011.
14:08Chaston West in 2011. Ed Gantz. 2011 was a big year for big bombs, evidently, in the preseason.
14:14Let's get to Green Bay. Love me some Kyle McCord, former Syracuse quarterback, former Ohio State quarterback.
14:20He put on a show. 22 of 35 for 226 and four touchdowns.
14:25The first mean to J. Michael Sturnevant for 29 yards.
14:28This was a fun back and forth game. It was Matt and Mike LaFleur, the LaFleur Bowl.
14:34But every time the Cardinals score, Kyle McCord would answer.
14:37Here's a 12-yard touchdown to Will Shepard, who also had an 81-yard punt return for a score.
14:43So he had multiple Lambeau leaps. And then Kyle McCord would twice hit Keyshawn Johnson, the other Keyshawn Johnson.
14:4928 yards there. And then, late fourth quarter, look at the clock.
14:53Packers down three. This is a game-winning touchdown with Keyshawn Johnson breaking tackles.
14:58And Kyle McCord looked so good, it got him a trip to Miami.
15:02He got traded on cut-down day. Adam Schefter tweet, Kyle McCord to the Dolphins in exchange for a sixth-round pick.
15:09Not next year, but in 2028. So he's now going to be the backup to Malik Willis in Miami.
15:15Speaking of the Packers, because it's all a Green Bay brain trust in Miami.
15:20Back in Green Bay, Josh Jacobs is on the commissioner exemplus.
15:24This also from Adam. So the Packers have a legitimate question at running back.
15:28What do they do? Because this is what they have.
15:32Chris Brooks, Caleb Johnson, and Marshawn Lloyd. They got Caleb Johnson, the second-round pick, or third-round pick, I beg your pardon, a year ago from the Steelers.
15:41So he's the new guy in the room. Trevor Sycamore back with us from a fantasy perspective.
15:47You know Matt LaFleur wants to run the football, or at least attempt to run the football.
15:52Are you taking any of these guys or banking on any of those guys?
15:57I am. I'm taking Marshawn Lloyd. And I remember writing his scouting report a couple of years ago when he was coming out of college.
16:06And I liked him at South Carolina. I liked him at USC.
16:10He was just hurt. But he's got the athletic ability.
16:13I think that he can be a dynamic back for them.
16:17I really do. When you look at this Green Bay team, they're right around the middle of the pack when it came
16:24to trying to establish the run on first down last year.
16:28But they were bottom 10 in the NFL and EPA per rush.
16:32They want that number to be a lot higher this year, certainly.
16:36And Lloyd's the one who gives them the dynamic ability to do that.
16:41Now, I think that Caleb Johnson's an interesting add for this team.
16:45I didn't think that he was really a fit with what Pittsburgh wanted to do.
16:50And when you look at Green Bay, their inside and outside zone run percentages are always right around top 10 in the league.
16:57I feel like that goes into what Caleb Johnson does well and his vision as a back.
17:03But I do think that this is Marshawn Lloyd's backfield when it comes to those early downs.
17:09And I think he could surprise people. Marshawn Lloyd, the former USC running back, he could be the guy, although I'm with you here on Caleb Johnson.
17:18Trevor, stick around. It didn't work for Caleb Johnson in Pittsburgh.
17:22Last year, Arthur Smith calling plays. This year, Mike McCarthy calling plays.
17:26And these names may jump off the screen to you.
17:29These are all Steeler picks. First, second and third round going back to 2021.
17:34Look how many of them are gone. Bronrick Jones just traded.
17:38Now he's coming off an injury to the Cowboys.
17:41You also had George Pickens traded to the Cowboys.
17:44They got a good return here. Najee Harris coming off the Achilles is now on his third team.
17:50He's with the Giants. But that is a lot of draft premium already out the door.
17:55There was no draft premium on Jalen Daniels. The kid out of L.A.
18:00who played for six years at K-State has made the Buccaneers as the number two quarterback to Baker Mayfield.
18:06Kansas, Baker, pardon, not K-State. He signed for only $25,000, Trevor, as an undrafted free agent.
18:12If you ever turned on Jayhawk football, he was always fun to watch.
18:16Did you think, however, that he'd be a legit QB2 and this fast?
18:20I didn't know if that would happen now. But certainly if you want to turn back the clock two, three years ago, yes.
18:28I would have told you that when we were watching Jalen Daniels as a sophomore, junior, when he was at Kansas, he was lighting up scoreboards.
18:37He was all over the field. He was making incredible plays out of broken plays.
18:42And when things would go wrong, he was always able to fix it.
18:46Yeah, he's a smaller quarterback, but he had the arm strength to make up for it.
18:52But the big issue with him, Andrew, is just the back injury, the back injuries and other injuries that he dealt with over the last couple of seasons.
19:01And unfortunately, I wondered if certainly with him going undrafted, I wondered if it was like, man, is this just a story
19:09of a player who is really talented, who the injury bug bit him too hard by the time he got to the NFL?
19:17Clearly not the case. Love the fact that he's still able to showcase that talent.
19:22Love that it's still there. Love that Tampa kept him as their QB2.
19:26Yeah, absolutely. Comparatively speaking, make the team. That's the way this league works.
19:30It's what makes this league so much fun and so great.
19:34But for one of those guys to be a quarterback for 25,000 and to be the number two, not the number three, is just nuts.
19:43And keeping four is kind of the rage. Now, the Vikings I mentioned earlier have already moved on from Max Brosmer, maybe back to the practice squad.
19:52Brosmer stuck around and played a little bit last year.
19:55But Atlanta and Minnesota and Pittsburgh and surprisingly, Philadelphia all kept four initially.
19:59Four quarterbacks, most important position in sports. I feel like all those guys have value for our team.
20:06Some of them, obviously some is short term value, some is long term value when you think about Cole.
20:12And so just as we went through the process here, just thought it was the right thing to do for our football team.
20:20Howie Roseman keeping four quarterbacks. This is kind of the rage, Trevor.
20:24Why? Now, how he's always thinking about, you know, from a capitalist perspective, you know, I got to keep quarterbacks because who
20:31knows, I could trade for one of them. I could get extra draft picks, you know, so how we keeping for I understand that one minute or Atlanta.
20:41Okay. You understand that, right? You don't know. Penix availability to hasn't played well.
20:45You get a veteran Jack Stram played well for him.
20:49So I guess I get that one as well.
20:52Vikings, a little shocked to see him keep four.
20:55But now that they cut Bros. More okay. That one makes sense.
20:59I'm pretty puzzled that the Steelers kept four quarterbacks because if Aaron Rodgers goes down or you bring him out for whatever
21:06reason, you're going to one of your two young guys, right?
21:10You're going to Will Howard. You're going to drew Allah.
21:14You're going to see what you have in them.
21:17And I'm very surprised just because they only have four backup offensive linemen.
21:21One of those quarterback spots, Mason Rudolph spots specifically could have gone to pay another backup offensive line.
21:27I'm just pretty shocked that the Steelers were the team to keep four quarterbacks.
21:32Or if Rodgers goes down when they're actually winning and they're in playoff position and you don't necessarily trust one of those two kids to take over.
21:41You go with Mason Rudolph and hope Aaron can come back soon.
21:45But I'm with you. Browns kept four, but they put Dylan Gabriel on IR.
21:50He woke up Friday morning eventally with a bad back.
21:53Thank you, Trevor Sykema. Oh, by the way, do you have NFL Plus?
21:58I know Trevor does, but do you? Get 20% off an NFL Plus annual plan.
22:03NFL Plus stream live local and primetime games on mobile.
22:06NFL Plus Premium gets you NFL Red Zone. You can catch game replays.

22:17Terms and conditions apply because of course they do.
22:20The Rams had a lot of fun on social on Sunday.
22:24I mean, you would too if you got a future Hall of Famer back.
22:28Quarterbacks rejoice. This is when he retired a couple of years ago.
22:32No, quarterbacks scramble. We scrambled out to my favorite podcast.
22:36It's NFL Daily with Greg Rosenthal and the true star of the show.
22:40Of course, Jordan Rodriguez. You know, I've been saying for weeks that I think this defense is going to really surprise people
22:48with how multiple it is and how much it can rotate even on the field without subbing players out.
22:54There's so many players in the front and the back that can play multiple positions and can rotate all around each other
23:02and really activate against a bunch of different types of personnel without needing to come off the field.
23:08So if teams which we think they will try to go quick game on them or tempo in order to try to
23:15mitigate some of this pass rush that they'll see from miles Garrett, etc.
23:19You are you now have a counter punch for that and that that's pretty worrisome.
23:25I think when you factor in you're not going to really really know what Aaron Donald's going to do week to week,
23:32it's a mind game for everybody else because we are so we got so used to and we never really got used to.
23:40We kind of got used to all the stories of these opposing coaches talking about how when you play Aaron Donald that's
23:47actually the only player you're game planning around on defense for the Rams.
23:52That's how much of the week that it takes up in their meetings and how much of the the reinstallation of offensive
23:59line protections and blocks and slides and all these different things that you have to focus on.
24:05And so now the fact that he is going to be used situationally and you don't you won't be able to tendency predict week over week.
24:14That's a real problem, I think. And I think it it plays to the Rams benefit.
24:19And I think they know that which again is one of the reasons why among all of this other super team building
24:26thing just the way that they're doing it is also the reason why the Rams have such a big target on their back.
24:34Jordan and Greg NFL Channel has NFL Daily back next week 6 p.m.
24:39Eastern time. Nicky Minwari rehabbing the Seahawks second year safety after the Donald signing tweeted this.
24:44No context. All that for us. Yeah, Nick. Rams need to do all that for you guys.
24:50I mean, they got Aaron Donald. They also got Miles Garrett who evidently can levitate.
24:55Did you see this? This is from NFL films thing he did with Will Anderson working out the offseason.
25:01He levitated. Remember, they're better at sports than you.
25:04Miles Garrett, Will Anderson. Fantastic. Also good at sports.
25:07One George Kittle. Kyle Shanahan last week after the 49ers final preseason game intimated that Kittle had taken a step back in
25:15his rehab from a torn Achilles in January. He kind of had to walk that back today.
25:21We didn't think he was going to play though.
25:24And it was looking that way. I think it'd be much nicer to make that decision before we left instead of having to go through all that.
25:33It's also a long time that we're out there.
25:36So to be away from the team for a week, not just for camaraderie or anything, but just the training staff and things like that.
25:44And being away from meetings is also a big deal too.
25:48But hopefully these three days that we have, these three practices will go the right way and make it an easy decision to get them on the plane.
25:57All right. So Kittle's going to practice a couple of days this week and then they'll decide whether or not to fly with George Kittle to Melbourne.
26:07Meantime in Buffalo, this is cool. Josh Allen again is going to wear home game day hats designed by kids at a Buffalo children's hospital.
26:15It's raising money. They're called the Billustration Caps. Last year they brought in over $140,000 for the Golisano Children's Hospital and it's Patricia Allen Fund.
26:24Did you notice what Joe Finiano did this year?
26:27The seven year college player out of Maine and Connecticut threw for 509 yards and he made the Ravens as QB three.
26:34Good to see you. How are you? Good. Everything good?
26:37Everything good. Feeling good? Yeah. You made it. You made it.
26:41Yeah, you made it. Congrats. Congrats. Are you serious?
26:44Yeah, you made it. Can you believe it? You made it.
26:48Can I sit down? Yes. You made it. I thought I was, they were going to let me go and then they
26:55just surprised me and said I made it and then.
26:59What are you doing? Here you are, Connie. I made the team.
27:03Did you? Yeah. You made the team, huh? Yeah, I made the team.
27:07You, I knew you would. I knew you would, sweetheart.
27:11All right, that's pretty cool. Call mom and dad saying you made the team.
27:15And again, Joe Finiano played seven years of college football at Maine and at Connecticut.
27:20Late in the afternoon, the Cowboys have waved Joe Milton.
27:24How about that one? Sam Howell is QB three.
