Bo Nix

NegativeInjury13:00

Nix is coming off his fourth ankle surgery on his right ankle, which will cause Denver to rely more heavily on the backfield early in the season. His inconsistent scrambling upside is a concern for his fantasy production this season—he has been up and down week-to-week with no clear pattern, creating uncertainty in his backfield usage and overall offensive consistency.

Insight page

Cam Akers

NegativeInjury41:04

Cam Akers suffered an open fibula fracture (bone punctured skin), possible tibia fracture, and deltoid ligament rupture requiring surgical reconstruction—a more severe injury than Quinyon Judkins'. However, the source is not overly concerned about his return to performance because Akers relies more on power and short-yardage churning rather than explosiveness, unlike players like Kenneth Walker or Jahmyr Gibbs who depend more on lateral agility. The source is fine drafting him in the fourth round, especially given his strong receiving ability, which typically props up fantasy production in year one post-injury.

Insight page

Chuba Hubbard

NegativeInjury33:45

Hubbard had a great 2024 season with elite per-carry efficiency, then took a step back in 2025 because he dealt with a calf injury that never fully resolved. Calf injuries can have a substantial impact on running back performance and explosiveness. The source cautions against fully giving up on Hubbard despite last season's disappointing efficiency metrics, as a lot of his production was likely limited by that calf strain. Panthers offensive line injuries (Chris Brazell out, Taylor Moton hurt, Ickey Ekwonu returning from patella tendon injury) create additional downside risk for the backfield. Hubbard is the lead back on early downs in a split backfield with Jonathan Brooks, who is expected to play significant snaps on passing downs; this role split caps upside for both players in the weak Panthers offense.

Insight page

George Kittle

PositiveValue25:57

Kittle is recovering from a torn Achilles and appears to be on the right timeline for return; modern Achilles injuries are no longer career-enders and allow return around 8-9 months post-injury. Expected to be active by week two (not week one due to Australia travel and recovery concerns), but unlikely to reach 100% until mid-season/Thanksgiving timeframe. First three to four games back should be expected to produce boom-bust numbers. Kittle has risen in ADP from early hundreds to back end of 90s overall and is ranked tight end six by fantasy points per game; he's been dinged with approximately 4.5 games removed from his projection due to the Achilles injury and expected week one absence. The source views him as a fine pick in the 90-100 overall range (tight end 9-10 ADP) if drafted with the understanding that his value comes from November-December production, not September-October. Strategy: pair with late-round tight ends like Goedert or Andrews for early-season production while waiting for Kittle to reach full health.

Insight page

J.K. Dobbins

NegativeInjury2:18

Dobbins serves as a worst-case comparison for post-injury movement severity. The source noted that Nabers' movement patterns in training camp were not as compromised as Dobbins' post-injury mobility, suggesting a more favorable recovery trajectory.

Insight page
NegativeInjury11:00

Dobbins carries an extensive injury history with multiple lower-body injuries piling up. The source questions whether a true Lisfranc repair was performed, noting those typically require 7–9 months recovery but Dobbins was cleared in approximately 2.7 months, suggesting it may not have been a full repair. Beyond injury risk, Dobbins lacks receiving work in the Broncos offense, limiting fantasy upside. He is characterized as a 'low-upside pick' despite potentially being a slight value at his round-nine ADP. The source expects a small dip in rushing efficiency coming back from all these injuries.

Insight page

Jadarian Price

PositiveRole40:50

Judarian Price's fantasy outlook hinges entirely on Charbonnet's availability. If Charbonnet is sidelined until November due to a full ACL reconstruction, Price could see significant early-season usage and fantasy relevance as an early-down runner in the Seahawks' high-scoring offense (28 PPG, third in the league last year). However, if Charbonnet is active and healthy, Price's value is severely limited because the team heavily favors Charbonnet for goal-line and early-down work. The source is excited about Price's upside in this offense contingent on Charbonnet's recovery timeline.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeValue14:54

Burrow is going QB4–QB5 in the sixth round, priced expensively relative to Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels; the source considers this pricing rich, especially when Dak Prescott goes a round and a half later and Brock Purdy goes nearly three and a half rounds later. While this is Burrow's first fully healthy offseason in quite some time, which should support increased passing volume and many Bengals shootouts due to defensive limitations, the expensive ADP makes him a questionable value for a pocket passer. As a pocket passer, Burrow holds onto the ball longer than necessary waiting for plays to develop and does not get out of the pocket as fast as he could, which naturally allows the pocket to collapse and defenders to roll up on him; this playing style directly caused his ACL tear and contributed to his turf toe injury when he stepped back aggressively in the pocket, suggesting some of his injury risk is self-inflicted by his own fault in how he plays.

Insight page

Jonathon Brooks

NegativeInjury30:00

Brooks suffered a double ACL injury, a rare occurrence for running backs; Frank Gore is the primary historical example of a double ACL injury (both in college) who went on to have a fantastic NFL career. Double ACL injury recovery is on track for 2026 season; second surgery in January 2025 with double-bundle technique adds joint stability; expected to be 21 months post-op by week one, enabling cutting and change-of-direction movements. First graft likely failed due to complications (laxity in joint), necessitating second surgery. Training camp reports show positive signs: breaking tackles, forcing missed tackles, explosive upfield movement. Kick return duties ruled out by coach Dave Canales to minimize re-injury risk. Brooks has a big offensive role planned by Dave Canales; praised for passing-down ability immediately after draft in April. Expected to play significant snaps on passing downs in split backfield with Chuba Hubbard as lead on early downs. Upside is capped by Hubbard's presence and Panthers' weak offensive projection (26th in implied points per game, bottom five in team fantasy points projections).

Insight page

Kenneth Walker III

PositiveProjection9:24

The source is 'actually pretty high on Kenneth Walker' despite his prior injury history (groin, hamstring, ankle injuries). Walker was healthy last season with only preseason foot soreness that didn't impact per-touch production. He fits the Chiefs' offense perfectly, and the source believes you can 'invest and rely on this increased rushing production' as the team shifts to a more run-heavy approach with Mahomes recovering from ACL/LCL injury. The Chiefs' 2–3% decreased pass rate and emphasis on ground game directly benefit Walker's role.

Insight page

Kyle Pitts

PositiveInjury21:49

Pitts' PCL injury recovery took approximately 2 years to return to 100% performance, which is similar in timeline to ACL injuries but with more sluggishness, stiffness, and slower agility/cutting recovery. Return to 100% performance takes longer than the initial return-to-play timeline. The source notes Pitts now looks fantastic, secured a lucrative contract this offseason, and is shaping up as a pretty decent value pick going in the hundreds overall.

Insight page

Malik Nabers

PositiveInjury1:18

Nabers underwent cyclops lesion removal in May/early June to clear scar tissue blocking full knee extension post-ACL reconstruction. Despite initial expectations of 60–70% mobility in July, he demonstrated significantly better movement patterns than anticipated—moving with burst and quickness in early training camp, with only minor hesitation in sharp cutting and full acceleration off his right leg. The source initially expected movement patterns similar to Kyle Pitts' post-injury scarring issues, but Nabers' actual mobility was notably better than that comparison suggested, and not as compromised as J.K. Dobbins' post-injury movement. With 6 weeks until week one, the source is increasingly optimistic about his production trajectory by mid-October, noting that better movement now correlates with higher confidence in fantasy output. Nabers has moved from a fourth-round pick to a staple two-to-three turn selection, especially in best ball formats. He ranks sixth all-time in points per game among receivers in their first two seasons, alongside Randy Moss, Odell Beckham, and Puka Nacua. Even at 90% of full health post-cyclops lesion recovery, the source believes he makes strong sense at the two-to-three turn, as the WR7–13 tier is tightly bunched this year.

Insight page

Mike Evans

NegativeValue22:22

Evans is projected to earn targets at a 28% rate on his routes for the second consecutive year, placing him in the top 12 for target earning with strong separation metrics that have not declined. He is set to be basically the same target earner he has been for the Buccaneers for the past two seasons. Evans is going in the middle of the fifth round on Sleeper and solidly in the middle of the fourth round in sharper formats (FFPC, NFFC); the source expects his ADP to rise toward the third-round turn in sharper leagues given his improved target outlook. At current cost, the source is more willing to bet on Evans than Davante Adams despite recurring hamstring injury risk. Evans has suffered recurring hamstring injuries over the past two years, plus a hard-luck collarbone injury and concussion last season; as a long strider with multiple hamstring recurrences, Evans carries scar tissue that increases injury risk. The injury outlook is a true coin flip (50/50) for whether he avoids hamstring recurrence this season, though he could play 17 games healthy or deal with hamstring issues at some point. The source is willing to bet on Evans given the target share upside and red zone upside.

Insight page

Patrick Mahomes

NegativeProjection6:27

Mahomes is fully on track for week one after ACL/LCL recovery, but the source expects reduced rushing production this season. Despite a career-high in rushing touchdowns and season-high rushing yards per game last year, the source projects fewer purposeful rushing attempts due to injury caution and Eric Bieniemy's offensive coordinator role replacing Matt Nagy. The Chiefs are expected to be more run-heavy overall, with a 2–3% decreased pass rate as part of Mahomes' injury recovery strategy. Mahomes is expected to hold the ball longer on broken plays rather than scramble, and has adjusted his drop-back mechanics to reduce right knee rotation. The source anticipates an efficiency dip per rush and has dinged his rushing upside projections accordingly.

Insight page

Ricky Pearsall

NegativeInjury18:13

Ricky Pearsall suffered a multi-year PCL injury on top of prior misfortune (being shot before his rookie season, then an injury that slowed his rookie year). PCL surgery recovery is brutal with 9-12 months minimum recovery time and very sluggish progression. Pearsall was likely rehabbing through January with PRP injections and biologics, but continued brace-wearing and inflammation suggest persistent joint laxity and instability. The source expects either extensive time off (potentially a month) or worst-case surgery that would cost him the entire 2026 season, making him undraftable despite strong performance when fully healthy.

Insight page

RJ Harvey

NegativeInjury12:00

The source has no concerns on R.J. Harvey coming off labral repair in his shoulder, citing very low re-injury risk and very low dip for receiving work. Harvey looks good in the pass game and will split work with Dobbins in the Broncos backfield.

Insight page

Zach Charbonnet

NegativeInjury34:30

Charbonnet suffered an ACL injury in January 2025 with surgery on 2/20/2026, creating a front-weighted projection unique among rookies. Week one availability is uncertain and depends on whether the injury was an ACL repair (possible week one return) versus a full reconstruction (likely no return until November). Ian Rapoport's reporting suggested repair rather than reconstruction, but mixed reports persist. If it was a true reconstruction, Charbonnet likely won't play until November. Charbonnet has a front-weighted projection, meaning the Seahawks may need him early in the season rather than following the typical rookie ramp-up timeline (week 7–8 full integration). This contrasts with standard rookie expectations and suggests immediate fantasy relevance if he returns healthy.

0:13>> Yo, what is going on? It is Thursday morning Fantasy Football Daily is back and we've got an awesome show planned
0:19out for y'all. It is the 10 football injuries we're monitoring here during training camp and I have got our new resident injury expert. He's a doctor of
0:28physical therapy and he's been a long-time injury fantasy football analyst in the space. It's Jeff Mueller.
0:34You can follow him on Twitter at jmthrivept.
0:38Jeff, what's going on, man? Thanks for coming on.
0:40>> Yeah, no problem. Thanks for having me.
0:41I'm pumped to join you guys and excited for this season. There's already a ton of injuries to discuss.
0:47>> Hey, listen, your job is always busy.
0:49There's always someone getting hurt in football. It's just the nature of the game, nature of the game we play. It's a
0:54violent sport. And yeah, like you said, there there are already a number of injuries to talk to talk about. to talk
1:00through all of the most important injury news and notes going into this season, looking at players coming back from injury, and already, like Jeff was
1:08saying, a few players that have gotten hurt already, unfortunately. It's not even August and we've got some players that are looking at extended absences going into
1:16this season.
1:18Jeff, let's get started on the I think the [clears throat] biggest news item and something that I was frankly wrong about is Malik Nabers' outlook. It looks
1:24like he is set to not only be kind of ready for week one, but he's practicing already here in July. Obviously, coming
1:32back from a nasty knee injury. You can talk a little bit about the detail there. But Malik Nabers getting ready, getting ramped up, already in practice.
1:40He probably was very limited yesterday.
1:42We saw some clips of him go viral on Twitter. And myself included, I was a little surprised that he looked, you
1:47know, as as quick and as in shape as he did yesterday. So, let's talk through Malik Nabers, his injury outlook, Jeff,
1:56what you're thinking the the new timeline looks like for him if there is a new timeline in your opinion, and then
2:02we can kind of talk through what his impact is on this Giants offense.
2:06>> Yeah, so I'd probably [clears throat] start by saying more optimistic after actually seeing him move around, seeing his movement patterns, than I was when I
2:14wrote out the answer for the Q&A in the article, uh which I know is just a couple days ago and people are going to be like,
2:21"Well, how does that opinion change that fast?" And I think people have to understand, you know, our our expectation of seeing how Malik Nabers
2:29was moving, mine was much closer to how Kyle Pitts was moving after his uh injury um with scarring, dealing with scarring, and all that. Not necessarily
2:38as bad as like J.K. Dobbins was moving.
2:41Um in hindsight, if I were to change my opinion at all, I I [clears throat] I wish I had processed through more so him
2:49having the scar tissue, the cyclops lesion, removed back in May or early June.
2:55And having it's still only 2 months, but at least having that time um to to rehab and move as well as he was yesterday. I
3:02mean, it's he's not 100%. I was having this conversation with Scott Barrett, um and I think Brett Brett was sending some
3:09messages, too. Um you know, clearly he's not fully uh he's still hesitant in sharp cutting, uh fully accelerating off of his right leg, but the fact that he
3:19was moving as well as he was yesterday, um and as quickly, with as much burst as he does, he still has 6 weeks to prep
3:26for week one. Um and then again, the better he's moving now, the higher the more optimistic I am about how he's
3:33producing come mid-October.
3:36>> Right, I think that's the biggest thing, right? Is that we weren't totally expecting Nabers to even be 60-70% of himself in July, and the fact that he's
3:45out there running and cutting, even though it's probably not close to full speed or what, you know, he's fully capable of. I got to I got to ask you
3:52and follow up with you about the Cyclops lesion. I I just watched the Odyssey a couple weeks ago. Uh Cyclops Cyclops is
3:59a is a prominent figure. It looked insane in that movie, by the way. What exactly did he get done? What is the
4:04Cyclops lesion? What did he get cleaned up back early in April or or May?
4:08>> Yeah, so essentially when the ACL is reconstructed, um what can happen is scar scar tissue develops right on the graft itself. And
4:18that scar tissue builds up. The The graft goes through a trochlear groove.
4:22And it basically what you need to know about that is it should allow full movement into especially knee extension.
4:29So, the Cyclops lesion develops scar tissue develops and it blocks their ability to move into full extension.
4:35More so extension limited versus full flexion. Um so, essentially and and extension's very important for gait, for running, for full quad activation. So,
4:46typically we talk about a lot of people even if you don't know much about injuries, you know when you see somebody
4:51and they're like, "Man, their quad's small." Generally not a great sign for fantasy purposes. Um I'm not kidding. He must have been
5:00living with Dr. Reef for like 24/7 over the last 2 months. Because he looked like he has full extension. Granted, I
5:07don't have hands on him. Um looks like he's moving into near full flexion as well. And then accelerating off that knee. So, I'm
5:17he's moving much better than I ever anticipated coming off that Cyclops lesion.
5:21>> Yeah, I think I think so, too. I think that's what everybody's takeaway was.
5:25Malik Nabers slid into the fourth round in most fantasy drafts, Jeff. Now, he's he's going to become a like a staple
5:31pick at the two-three turn, I think, in in most in most drafts this weekend, especially in best ball formats. People are going to start trying to chase the
5:38ceiling and it makes sense. I mean, I've been a huge Malik Nabers fan for his entire career. He's wide receiver six
5:44all time in points per game among receivers in their first two seasons on a list with like Randy Moss and Odell
5:50Beckham and Puka Nacua. Just some of the most elite production at the position in the first two seasons. So, we can save
5:57you safely say I think even if Neighbors is like 90% of his full self this season at the two-three pick, I think he makes
6:04a a lot of sense there. That that tier after Justin Jefferson and CeeDee Lamb, like wide receiver seven through 12 to
6:1013 this year is really really close. And we're kind of splitting differences. And I think Neighbor has Neighbors has certainly put himself in that discussion
6:18at this point at the two-three turn.
6:21He's going to become I think a staple at that at that spot. Let's also talk about Patrick Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes'
6:27recovery from his ACL injury. I know you put out a tweet a few days ago basically saying, "Hey, like Mahomes might have a
6:34little atrophy in that quad." Like you were just saying just a moment ago, but it's good to see him also back at
6:40practice.
6:41You know, he's been you know, cleared to to take some some drills. Uh well, right now it seems like he's fully on track,
6:48Jeff, for for week one. What's your outlook on Patrick Mahomes and especially as it relates to his rushing ability? Last season he set a season
6:55high in rushing yards per game, set a season high, excuse me, career high in rushing touchdowns as well. What's your outlook for Mahomes going into this
7:04season?
7:05>> Yeah, I I would expect Well, and Eric Bieniemy is offensive coordinator now, too, instead of Matt Nagy.
7:12Um but I would expect less less rushing um purposeful rushing attempts from him.
7:19And I think he he's talked to media, which has been pretty good to hear his insight. I think in the opportunities
7:24where typically we would see him, maybe the play's breaking down and he would take off and run. I could see him if he
7:30has space or maybe himself creating space from defenders holding onto the ball a little bit longer and instead of taking off, relying on a pass in those
7:39situations, probably through the first half of this season. So, I do think we do see a little bit less purposeful rushing attempts, but if he has to, I've
7:48seen enough where I feel pretty confident in his ability to scramble.
7:52Obviously, there will be an efficiency dip per rush.
7:56Um that's just expected off the ACL and LCL. I think something pretty interesting, I I forget who it was, but someone was breaking down he's actually
8:03changed his drop-back style so that um typically you roll out to the right and he was actually he was spinning and
8:10rolling out to his or spinning to his left to still roll out right for a handoff. And I think he's doing that
8:17purposefully for early season to reduce how much rotation he puts on his right knee, which is actually good for ACL and
8:23the LCL. That was um reconstructed I'm sorry, the left knee.
8:27Um so, it's going to be a little less twisting there for him, which is good.
8:31But yeah, at least for rushing production, I I I would expect a little bit of a dip. But I don't know. I I try
8:37to stay in my lane. I don't know if the passing upside with the enemy back kind of equals that out.
8:43>> Yeah, Patrick Mahomes, you know, like I was saying did have the you know, basically career year in rushing last year and hearing Jeff say,
8:50you know, the the attempts are going to come down. It's it's certainly a concern for fantasy, I think for his outlook.
8:55Last season, he was right around five rush attempts per game in his career.
8:59That's right around where he's been four or five. We at Fantasy Points here, we've we've actually kind of uh basically I wouldn't say put a cap on Mahomes
9:08rushing upside, but we have dinged him quite a bit when it comes to that. The the other factor here, Jeff, is I think
9:14the Chiefs are are going to want to be more, you know, run heavy this season.
9:17We've also uh decreased their pass rate by 2 to 3% and I think that's a part of this injury recovery here from Mahomes.
9:24>> Yeah, and I'm not I I think a a natural uh follow-up question on that would be people will ask, well, can
9:31I now trust Kenneth Walker?
9:33Um he was he was healthy last season. I know he dealt with in the in the preseason the foot soreness, but
9:40it didn't impact him on a per touch basis. I know they limited him touch-wise, but he fits his offense perfectly. I'm I'm actually pretty high
9:47on Kenneth Walker.
9:49And I would say, you know, Scott asked me a question on who do you have more risk on Kenneth Walker or Derrick Henry?
9:55It's kind of a coin flip to be honest at that point because age-wise for Henry, efficiency dip for Henry, volume over
10:02the years. Walker We had the history of groin injuries, hamstring, all that, ankles, nothing last year.
10:10So, I I think you can invest and rely on this increased rushing production.
10:13>> Yeah, I see I see a lot of upside with Walker. I'm I'm right there. We share the same brain on that. And when it
10:18comes to his injury history, Jeff, I got to ask you, you know, he did have a history of the groin oblique strains,
10:23you know, like you said, you know, couple ankle and foot injuries, but it does seem like they're kind of like random, not totally connected injuries.
10:30Is you know, in general, this is like we just said, this is a violent sport.
10:34Players are going to get hurt. This is just the nature of the beast, the game we play here in fantasy football. You're
10:39going to have to deal with with injuries. But I think Walker has been incorrectly kind of labeled as someone who does get injured often. When it you
10:46look through his history and it doesn't really seem to be the case.
10:49>> Yeah.
10:50Yeah, yeah, agreed. And one comment is talking about Woda.
10:55Yeah he So, one one thing that it's so hard for us as injury analysts to know because again, we don't have hands on these
11:01players. You can just rely on video is yeah, you could tie some of that or a lot of those injuries to his movement
11:08biomechanics, which I'm a movement specialist, so I love tying that in. But again, it's still a guessing game for us. So, and it
11:15still can be very random.
11:16Even like JK Dobbins gets the injury prone label. And a lot of his injuries are because players have, you know, either compensation or players have come
11:24in and rolled up over him. So, it's like it's it's unlucky, it's random. Some of it's tied to prior injuries, but yeah,
11:32for Kenneth Walker I'm actually pretty high on him.
11:35Um and I think he'll be he'll take a good amount of that production where they'll limit what Mahomes has to do
11:41early on, at least the first half of the season.
11:44>> It's It's you're right about Dobbins.
11:46His I will never forgive John Harbaugh for the the preseason injury. He should not have been out on the field. That
11:52knee injury that was totally avoidable.
11:54And then like you said, yeah, but the foot injury this year. He got He did get rolled up on. When it comes to Dobbins
11:59though, I just real quick follow up.
12:00Like what is your outlook for him this season? I think this Broncos backfield Jeff is is one that has given fantasy
12:06managers a lot of headaches, myself included, trying to project out this offseason. Obviously R.J. Harvey looks pretty good in the pass game, but he's
12:14going to split work with Dobbins.
12:16Dobbins was clearly the better early down runner, the better base runner last season.
12:21Um Dobbins is very young, but man, I mean the injuries have just piled up for him. When it comes to a player like him,
12:27Jeff, should we expect some sort of injury dip just because of all the lower body injuries he's had?
12:33>> Yeah, I think that's just going to naturally happen with It's It's a long long history. I don't [snorts] think he
12:40little speculation on my end. I don't think he had a true Lisfranc repair because those those do take minimum 7, 8, 9 months to return. And he actually
12:50got cleared 3 months after. It It was like 2.7 months after his surgery. So, that one was a little odd. I I don't think it's a true
12:58Lisfranc. So, I wouldn't dip him for that.
13:01Um but the other portion of it is how many how much how often do we look into how much does a rush attempt um count
13:08for, you know, fantasy production versus receptions? And Dobbins just doesn't get a lot of receiving work. And now Coleman's in there. Harvey's back. I
13:17don't have concerns on R.J. Harvey coming off the labral repair in his shoulder.
13:21Um that very low re-injury risk, very low dip for receiving work. So, I I don't know if it's more offensive dip
13:28for Dobbins because he doesn't get receiving work versus he's just very unlucky injury-wise. I do think Denver will rely more on the backfield though
13:37early on with Bo Nix coming off his fourth surgery on that right ankle.
13:43>> Yeah, it it that's a concern for Nix this year, too. He's always been like up and down with his scrambling upside,
13:48too. It doesn't seem like there's really a rhyme or reason. Some weeks he's scrambling more often, other weeks he's not. That is a little concern I have for
13:54him this season. But, you make a great point about Dobbins. This is one I keep making as well. I think he's kind of
13:59like a low-upside pick. Like, sure he could, you know, be a slight value at his ADP. He goes in round nine right now
14:05in most drafts. Could be a slight value, but because of the receiving upside is so limited in this offense. And to
14:11Jeff's point, we we might see a a small dip in his rushing efficiency as well coming back from all these injuries.
14:17We'll circle back to quarterback. One quarterback I have to ask you about is Joe Burrow. We always get asked, is Joe
14:23Burrow injury re- Is Is Joe Burrow injury-prone? This honestly feels like the JK Dobbins discussion as well, Jeff.
14:29Like, man, he's just had a lot of random tough luck injuries. This is a fully healthy off- off-season for Burrow, though, man. Like, we we have not seen
14:38We've only seen like two fully healthy off-seasons. Correct me if I'm wrong out of Burrow, right? Like, where he's not been rehabbing an injury, and this is
14:44one of them.
14:45Let's talk about Burrow and his outlook going into this year.
14:49>> Yeah, I I do think I don't know if he's necessarily injury-prone as much as I I guess the only way I would put I
14:55would say he's injury-prone is that as a pocket passer, and this is always an interesting interesting discussion over several years. Um, you know, who's more
15:04injury at a higher injury risk, mobile quarterbacks versus pocket passers? I think Burrow does it to himself to a certain degree because he holds onto the
15:12ball as long as he does, waiting for plays to to develop, um not necessarily getting out of the pocket as fast as he
15:18could. And I know that's always been a talking point on him over the years.
15:22That's naturally going to allow the pocket to collapse and his own offensive line or defenders rolling up on him. And that's exactly how his ACL tore.
15:30Um granted, that play did happen pretty fast, but it's how the turf toe injury occurred. He He was trying to move still
15:36in the pocket. He stepped back aggressively and turf turf toe occurred.
15:40Um so, I think some of it comes down to him just needing to get the ball out faster. I'm curious to see how that'll
15:46go this year. I know they're working on uh more more play under under center. Um and changing the offense a little bit.
15:55Again, that's out of my lane. I'll let you discuss that. But, uh yeah, from an injury standpoint, I I wouldn't necessarily say he's truly
16:03injury-prone, but I think some of it is his own fault.
16:07>> You're right. It it is a little bit of his own fault. It's the way he plays.
16:09Burrow is is a lot like, you know, Tom Brady trying to stay in the pocket and navigate the pocket. Even when things
16:15break down, he's willing to take the hit. We we love him in fantasy for that cuz he usually he usually works out
16:20pretty well for him. He usually makes big plays and gets the ball out to Chase or Higgins for a big play. But, yeah, I
16:25mean, I think the interesting thing to talk about is if they do go under center. I think this is like a
16:29quarterback comfortability thing. Like, I'm not sure Burrow's been totally comfortable with going under center. Uh I think that would help him, especially
16:37set up the play-action game and kind of get some more of those designed throws, those designed timing and rhythm throws where he does have to get the ball out a
16:44little quicker. Would also probably help the run game a little bit as well.
16:48Overall, the Bengals project incredibly well offensively this season, Jeff.
16:51They're the second best team in implied points per game. They're one of our top offenses here at Fantasy Points. The price is expensive on Burrow though,
16:59man. That's the thing. He's he's going right around Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, right around there, you know, QB4, QB5 in the sixth round. For a pocket passer,
17:08in my opinion, I think it's a little rich, especially when Dak Prescott is going a round and a half later. Brock
17:14Purdy's going nearly three three a half rounds later on some sites. Uh it's just a little bit of a tricky price to invest
17:19in, but I think managers are kind of seeing this the same way where it's like, man, this is finally finally Burrow's first fully healthy off season
17:25in quite some time.
17:26Uh Bengals did lose Shammar Stewart yesterday. It seems like he suffered a nasty injury, unfortunately. Uh this defense is is better this season. DJ
17:35Turner is an awesome corner. It's better. Like DJ Turner is a stud. But, you know, they got Dexter Lawrence up front. They still got some some pieces
17:43they're going to have to figure out, especially when it comes to the pass rush this season. So, I'm expecting fully that the Bengals are playing in a
17:49lot of shootouts this year, Jeff.
17:51Burrow's going to have to throw it.
17:52Unfortunately, that does mean a lot of dropbacks for him. Uh but at the same time, we we love that in fantasy.
17:58We'll pivot over to our yearly 49ers injury update. Jeff, we're recording this on July 30th. It's already freaking started, man. I know you're a Niners guy
18:08living out in California. I got to ask you about the Niners. There's three players really we need to talk through.
18:13The first one, unfortunately, is our guy Ricky Pearsall. Uh the guy has just been so unlucky between getting shot before training camp in his rookie
18:24season, then having an an injury unfortunately that kind of slowed his rookie season, and now he's had this like multi-year PCL injury.
18:33What's the outlook right now? The 49ers, there was a report they're saying they're very concerned. Uh obviously, they they should be.
18:41Is surgery on the table? And if if it is, what would that mean for Pearsall?
18:47>> Yeah, so I'm getting a lot of questions on if this was an issue, why didn't Ricky Pearsall just get the surgery
18:53already? For PCL injuries, especially moderate to to high-grade PCL injuries, you still don't want to jump to surgery.
19:01Surgery for PCLs to repair them are brutal and that and the the recovery is very long, 9 to 12 months minimum, and
19:08it's just very very sluggish. So, if you can avoid a PCL a surgery for PCLs, you you do everything possible to avoid
19:16it. My best guess, he was rehabbing all through January up till this point. Um probably got biologics to PC um PRP
19:25injections, some other injections, I would not be surprised.
19:29And he probably felt decent going throughout all of his off-season off-season workouts. We did see I I posted [snorts] some videos, I wish
19:37hindsight paid more attention to my own content. Um he was wearing a brace still, which is kind of a concern. It's
19:43like, why is he still wearing a brace this far out if it's it should be healed. Um it being this long and still dealing
19:52with inflammation, when I see that when I hear that on an athlete, I don't view it as, "Oh, well, it's just
19:57inflammation." That tells me with prior PCL injury, there's still joint laxity.
20:02The joint is moving around a little bit more than it should. There's instability in the joint. It's leading to shear forces across the joint, and that's
20:08likely what's causing the swelling to occur. And it probably popped up more now because he's in more aggressive practices versus his own off-season
20:16training. Um so, the problem here, it's either going to take extensive time off, rest, more PRP, more, you know, they I wouldn't be
20:26surprised if they take a chunk of time, maybe a month. You don't want to wait too long, but again, if he gets surgery,
20:32it's going to be 9 to 12 months anyways, so you can wait a couple months. Um even if he winds up getting it in December or
20:38something. Um but I wouldn't be surprised if if they just give him time off, try to see if it stabilizes a little bit more. But worst
20:46case scenario here, considering they've probably already done that over the last 6 7 months, would be surgery, and that would cost him the entire 2026 season.
20:54>> Yeah, that makes Ricky Pearsall undraftable in my opinion. He's been going, you know, consistently in that wide receiver 40s pocket in the round 9
21:0210. I'm just I just don't see any reason to risk it if you're drafting this weekend or the next couple of weekends until we
21:09get another Pearsall update from our guy Jeff. I just I just don't think the risk is is totally worth it, especially if
21:14you're if you're drafting in any best ball leagues, you can't risk taking a zero on that format. Pearsall and unfortunately, man, like he the the
21:22small sample at when he's been fully healthy, he's looked fantastic, but yeah, this is something that they're going to have to try and get right and
21:29you're you're probably just right that they've tried all summer, all spring to kind of get him get him through this avoiding surgery cuz like you said, it
21:36is a 9-month recovery.
21:37In general, Jeff, it sounds like in terms of PCL returns coming back from surgery, it sounds like it's very similar in terms of just the overall
21:45timeline is like an ACL injury.
21:47>> Mhm. Yeah.
21:49Yeah, a little more a little more sluggish, a little more stiffness in the knee.
21:54Agility cutting takes a little bit longer. I think that's why we saw more of like a 2-year 2-year return for Kyle
22:01Pitts.
22:02Hindsight on that one. Yeah, it's similar time time frame, but like return to 100% performance is a little bit longer than ACL.
22:11>> Yeah, hand up. I got the Kyle Pitts injury recovery wrong as well and and now he looks fantastic, got the bag this
22:16off season and and honestly, he's he's shaping up to be a pretty decent value is going in the hundreds overall. Mike
22:22Evans is set to say like basically be the same target earner he's been for the Bucks for the past two seasons. This was
22:29actually a little bit of my concern on the pod. I've been saying all summer like, yeah, Mike Evans is still really
22:34good. Like his average separation score, all the separation metrics here at Fantasy Points Data, they they have not fallen off. Uh you know, his in terms of
22:41earning targets, last two seasons, he's earned a target on 28% of his routes back-to-back years. That's top 12 back-to-back years. I was a little bit
22:49concerned about his fit in this offense just in terms of his alpha level target share cuz if you give everybody a clean
22:56bill of health, which we've learned with the 49ers is legitimately impossible, Jeff. But, you know, Ricky Pearsall's now hurt. Christian Kirk has a calf
23:03injury to start the the train training camp on a new team. Not great for Kirk.
23:08Mike Evans, really, man, it's just been the hamstring injuries for the last couple of years. He had the really bad hard luck collarbone injury and
23:15concussion last year where he got slammed to the turf. Uh just one of those things in football. It's just really hard luck. But, let's talk
23:21through Mike Evans. He is going to be 33 this year. He is a hall Hall of Famer.
23:25We've seen with these Hall of Fame type talents like Davante Adams and Keenan Allen, they just don't really fall off.
23:31Like, maybe they they don't have the run-after-catch ability like they used to, but the separation skill just does not really fall off as they age. I think
23:38Mike Evans is still a baller. What is his injury outlook going into this season? Should we be concerned about these these hamstring injuries that have
23:45been recurring?
23:47>> Yeah, unfortunately, I mean, so this this was probably one of the harder sections to write out for the Q&A, both
23:54for him and Davante Adams, just because their age, multiple hamstring recurrences.
23:59Um anytime the hamstring tears, there's strains, there's going to be scar tissue there. It's it's going to align in a disorganized fashion. It's going to put
24:09them at risk, literally put them as injury-prone. Um especially as long striders. Like, I have Mike Evans, I have Nico Collins, I have Tee Higgins
24:17all in a similar movement style, and they all have hamstring issues. Long strides.
24:22>> interesting. That's really interesting.
24:25>> So, I truly coin flip 50/50, but the upside, the target share upside, the red zone upside, Kyle Shanahan using Mike
24:33Evans in the red zone, um I mean, it's the the upside is enough and his cost is low enough where I'm
24:39willing to bet on Mike Evans. I'd actually be more willing to bet on Mike Evans at cost than I would Davante
24:45Adams. Um just thinking total yardage projection, target share, um even though the red zones or the the touchdowns are hard to bet on. Um
24:56but yeah, I I unfortunately, I wish I could say there's zero concern on the hamstrings, but just naturally it's going to be there. But it's one of those
25:02situations where he might make it through this entire season, no hamstring recurrence, no problem, 17 games, or he might deal with it at some point this season.
25:13>> Yeah, that's interesting to hear you say that, you know, the long striders, these are the guys who typically sustain more
25:19hamstring injuries, and it's just, you know, it's an anatomy issue. With Evans, he's just big and big and tall and fast.
25:24Man, if he does stay healthy for 13 or 14 games, I think he is going to probably pay off this mid-fifth round
25:29ADP. I think that price comes significantly up though in the next couple of days.
25:33I was looking on just some ADP data this morning before he's we got started here, Jeff. Right now on Sleeper, Mike Evans
25:39is going in like the middle of the fifth round, and sharper formats like FFPC and NFFC, he's going solidly in that middle
25:45of the fourth round, and I expect that price to start coming up closer to the third and maybe the three-four turn in
25:51some sharper leagues.
25:52Just with his target outlook looking significantly better. We got to wrap this up with George Kittle as well.
25:57Kittle coming back from the torn Achilles. It does seem like Correct me if I'm wrong, this is your lane. It does
26:03seem like he is like right on the right timeline. These Achilles injuries, man, we've gone from them basically being a career ender to something that you're
26:11available to come back like eight or nine months later. Let's talk a little bit about that and talk through, you know, what kind of output we should
26:18expect and outlook we have for George Kittle going into this season.
26:22>> Yeah, so I think through So, always the conversation with injuries is he going to be active?
26:30And then is he going to be 100%? I think he'll be active, maybe not week one because of the travel to Australia. And
26:36And that portion of it just takes into account the fact that he's not he's going to be in unfamiliar surroundings, a lot of travel time, it alters your
26:44rest recovery. You don't want to put up an athlete in their first game coming off of a big injury like that in those
26:50situations. So, I could see them holding him out, especially if Jake Moody is performing well.
26:58Granted it's against the Rams, but I could see him not being active week one, but probably week two for sure.
27:06Now, 100% I don't anticipate until closer to mid-season to third quarter of the season, closer to like Thanksgiving time.
27:15So, I think the first first half of the season I would anticipate boom bust numbers.
27:21And again, I I write that out assuming everyone on the offense is healthy.
27:25If if Ricky Pearsall's out and they don't add someone like Deebo or Keenan Allen who went to Cal, you know, he's from that area,
27:34then I could see George Kittle be relied on more early on in the season. But if everyone's healthy, I I think it's going
27:40to be definitely more boom bust from a volume standpoint. And I wouldn't necessarily want to bet on him in his first three, four games
27:47return to sport.
27:49>> Right, we've got Kittle at tight end six by fantasy points per game this season.
27:53He gets dinged obviously in the total projections. We've taken basically four and a half games away from him this year. To Jeff's point,
28:00great point that he's probably not going to play week one in Australia. Then they come back, they're at home in week two.
28:07That could be the target Kittle return date. There is a There's a way to draft around him right now. Kittle has come up
28:13in price. He was going in the early hundreds for most of the summer. He's now going in the back end of the 90s
28:18overall, but there's a way to build around him. You can draft Dallas Goedert late. You can draft Mark Andrews late.
28:22Give yourself some early season production. Kind of double up on tight end late if you don't invest a premium pick there early in your draft. Kittle
28:31is somebody I've I've definitely warmed to. You just have to be cognizant of your team build and just kind of how you
28:37plan around him early in the season. And to to Jeff's point, I think he's just right. You know, early September into October you probably should not be
28:45expecting much. But if you're drafting Kittle where he's going right now, you're drafting him firmly with hey, I'm making money off Kittle
28:53being, you know, a top five, top six fantasy tight end in November and December. I don't really care so much about what he gives me in September and
28:59October. In managed leagues in particular, it's really easy to stream off the waiver wire most weeks. We talk about this every single year, Jeff. Late
29:07round tight ends are typically some of the best value bets in fantasy football.
29:10And then there's also going to be a handful of tight ends that we'll pick up off the waiver wire that give us kind of
29:16top 12 streaming production throughout the season. So, Kittle makes a lot of sense, I think, as far as long as he
29:21stays in this like 90 to 100 overall bucket. Uh he stays, you know, right around tight end nine or tight end 10 in
29:27ADP behind uh Pitts and LaPorta. I think he's a fine pick. Like I said, you just have to be completely aware of how
29:34you're building your teams.
29:36We're talking through Jeff Jeff Mueller through every injury situation and outlook that you need to know going into the 2026 season. Jeff wrote an excellent
29:45article for us at Fantasy Points, an excellent debut article. Basically, a Q&A of all the biggest injury news going into this season. You can follow him on
29:54Twitter.
29:56Uh as well, Jeff Mueller. This has been a great start to the show. Let's get pivot over to some backfield talk. Uh
30:03the next couple of questions I [snorts] got to ask you are all about backfields and some injury situations that we got to talk through. Two major
30:11injury Two major injury impacts that I'm looking at just in terms of projections going into this year is this Panthers backfield and what Jonathan Brooks
30:20return means for Carolina.
30:22Double ACL injury. Uh very few running backs, if any, have had a double ACL double ACL injury. I wanted to ask you
30:29about that is like it what is the, you know, do we have like kind of any examples of a double ACL injury for for
30:37Jonathan Brooks? And does age matter when it comes to that? Cuz he is still young.
30:43>> Yeah, so I this one I'm actually kind of proud of. So, first off I'll say Frank Gore stands out as the first double ACL
30:50guy. Two in college, played fantastic NFL career. Um Jonathan Brooks, so I'm not necessarily putting him in a
30:57category of um truly two ACL injury type of player like someone like uh Eric All
31:05Jr. coming off two ACLs, same knee. Um I my theory is holding true so far, and I'm never going to be able to prove
31:14this, but Jonathan Brooks what I think happened was that first ACL graft uh there were complications with it. He was struggling in camp. I I
31:24remember seeing those reports through uh rookie rookie camp, OTAs, through training camp, through preseason. Um his debut was pushed off until I think
31:34November or December.
31:36Um and you kept hearing issues of like yeah, he's he's still struggling with cutting, he's still struggling with swelling.
31:43There were a couple things that made me think he still has a little bit of laxity in the joint. I genuinely believe
31:49that his first graft didn't take, and that's why it tore. And then the second graft was done in January 2025. So, by
31:57week one he's going to be about 21 months, I believe, um out from that second surgery from Dr. Neal ElAttrache.
32:04And um they did a double bundle surgery.
32:08So, that basically adds more stability to the joint, and it should allow him to cut and get back to the change of
32:14direction type movements without issue.
32:16And so far, we've seen multiple beat reports of man, he he just stuck his foot in the ground and um broke a tackle
32:23or forced a missed tackle, and then exploded up field. Stuff that I love reading for him specifically right now.
32:29We had a little scare uh yesterday, I believe. He was taking a kick return for some reason, fell down, but then the beat writer said he popped
32:37right back up. Thankfully, Dave Canales said, "Jonathan Brooks is going to have to beg to ever be on kick return duties." So, we don't have to deal with
32:44that.
32:45>> [laughter] >> They have a They have a big uh role for him planned offensively. But, that's my insight onto the graphs. I I I truly
32:52believe that first one just failed.
32:55And that's why it re-tore, and the second one fixed the problem from the first surgery.
32:59>> Interesting. Yeah, I I remember that that well. I was left holding the Brooks bags going into his rookie season. And I
33:05think you're right, he either had a setback or or maybe your theory is just right that maybe it wasn't a setback and
33:10it just really like never He was never fully right, and then it was just prone to rupture uh once he actually tried to
33:16start making some violent cuts. I think the biggest upside for me with Brooks is just his passing down ability. This is
33:22something that Dave Canales praised immediately once they drafted him.
33:25Remember reading quotes from Canales in April right after that draft that basically saying that, "Hey, like we're really really stoked for uh Brooks's
33:32pass-down ability and hit what he's going to be able to provide in this offense right now. I still think his upside is capped because Chuba Hubbard,
33:39Jeff, is just probably not going to go away unfortunately for Brooks Bulls. Uh Chuba, you know, uh he had a great 2024
33:45season, was one of the most efficient running backs on a per-carry basis in 2024, then took a step back last year
33:51because he dealt with the calf injury. I think that just never really got right for him. This looks like a split
33:56backfield to me with Hubbard as the lead on early downs, and then Brooks playing a ton on passing downs, which caps both
34:03players' upside. And then we have to mix in the fact this is This is probably not going to be the world's best offense.
34:08Panthers have been an offense that has struggled for a number of years. Uh I I get the enthusiasm, the excitement around
34:15Brooks. Uh this is a player that I loved coming out of college. I've just not been super excited about him or really
34:20this team going into the year. Panthers are 26th in implied points per game.
34:24They're also in the bottom five of our fantasy points projections just in terms of team projection.
34:30Uh I just I've just not super excited about Brooks and the Panthers, but it is it's awesome to see him back and I
34:36really hope he can stay fully healthy this season. I think he does have a chance to take over this backfield at
34:41some point. We also need to talk through I think maybe the biggest injury outlook that I'm looking at for for fantasy in
34:47terms of its impact is what when does Zach Charbonnet come back?
34:51Correct me if I'm wrong, Jeff. He had surgery like late February coming back from an ACL injury.
34:56He had to wait a couple injury a couple weeks after he got hurt in January.
35:01What is his timeline? And then we'll relate this back to Judarian Price and his projection this season.
35:08>> Yeah, um, quick can I make a quick comment on Chuba?
35:11>> Yeah.
35:12>> I I think you hit the you said it perfectly. Um, last year I do believe a lot of his production was limited by
35:17that calf strain. And so a lot of people are just saying that I'm done with Chuba. He wasn't explosive last year,
35:23etc. Calf injuries can have a really big impact on running backs. So, I I love what you said. I wouldn't fully give up
35:29on Chuba. Um, just downside that I think they've lost or they had injuries to both their tackles.
35:34Um, and then now Chris Brazell is out.
35:36So, um, yeah, that's the offense will be interesting to watch.
35:40>> Yeah, Taylor Moton got hurt. Ickey Ekwonu obviously coming back from what was it a patella injury? Patella tendon injury in his knee? Yeah. I mean, he's
35:46he's coming back from a a gnarly injury.
35:48I you know, the Panthers man like I I want to I want to believe in this backfield. I want to believe in Brooks.
35:54I do think he is more talented than Chuba Hubbard just as prospects coming out of college. I think Brooks has a
35:59better profile. Um, but yeah, I see I see this comment here from Jason, right?
36:03If Brooks is any good, then Chuba won't hold him back. I I don't know if I believe that there, man, cuz like last
36:08year Rico Dowdle was balling out, like looked incredible, was one of the best running backs in football, and then Chuba came
36:15back and Dave Canales and this team gave gave Chuba the starting job once again.
36:19So, this is unfortunately looking like a split backfield, I think, just unless Brooks just comes out and goes scorched earth. Let's switch back over to the
36:28Seahawks in this backfield. You know, Charbonnet really is I think one of the biggest like injury timeline impacts going into this season. Zach Charbonnet
36:37Price is one of the few players, Jeff, that kind of has a front-weighted projection. Typically with rookies we think, "Okay, by week seven or week
36:45eight they're fully ramped up into the offense. We can start really expecting consistent fantasy production."
36:51It's kind of the opposite with Zach Charbonnet, man. Like they they might need him early in the year. Let's talk through Zach Charbonnet and like I said
36:57he had surgery, I believe, on February 20th or sometime late in February last year.
37:02When can we expect him to be back on the field?
37:05>> Yeah, this is >> [clears throat] >> I I don't have a concise answer on this one because the reporting has been a
37:11little inconsistent. And there's so I'll just go over the top the item. So, injury January, surgery 2/20 2026.
37:22Um week one, I believe, would be 6 and 1/2 months uh out from surgery date. And again, you don't you don't want to go pa- you don't
37:31want to go from date of injury, you want to go from surgery. So, his surgery was delayed about a month. Um
37:37I don't think there's been mixed reports on if he's going to actually be active week one. I think the only way, and this is where
37:46the reports are inconsistent, the only way he's active week one if he had an ACL repair versus a reconstruction.
37:53And again, that's we never fully get clear info. I've seen some reports from top top guys like Ian Rapoport um saying
38:02repair versus reconstruction. He he didn't say reconstruction, he said repair.
38:06Um if it was a true reconstruction, I don't see him playing until November.
38:11Um [snorts] and so that's where we're starting to see more and more news trickle in. It's like, "Week one will be
38:17a close call." Like, how is that even possible? It it has to In my mind that tells me there's a chance that it was
38:23repaired and not reconstructed.
38:25I truly believe from an offensive standpoint and how Mike McDonald, how they view Zach Charbonnet, if Charbonnet is active, I don't know if I want to bet on
38:35J'Darien Price because they're going to use Charbonnet way more than we want him to if we have J'Darien Price rostered.
38:42That's just my opinion.
38:44>> I think you're right. I think that's the biggest thing that we've got to figure out when it comes to J'Darien Price's
38:49outlook is this team just absolutely loves Charbonnet. I mean, how many times did we see this last year where Ken Walker would rip off a long play, get
38:56him inside the 10, and then they'd pull Walker for Charbonnet to score the touchdowns. Give Charbonnet a lot of like the early down grinder type
39:03carries. I think that is a legitimate question and Jeff makes a great point.
39:07If it is a full-blown reconstruction, I mean, there's no way he plays until Halloween this year. Albert Breer Albert Breer was the the reporter who came out
39:15and said that the it's going to be close for week one. I think either way, if it's, you know, like Jeff was saying, a
39:20repair or a reconstruction, I think that's overly optimistic, but we'll we we've got to get some concrete reporting hopefully in the next couple of weeks to
39:27kind of salt away this backfield. The Seahawks last year, Jeff, were third in points per game. They scored 28 points per game, and Sam Darnold was only the
39:35QB 23 in fantasy football last season. I think a lot of the value on this team really is getting this backfield right.
39:43And if you're right that that that Charbonnet maybe just had a repair and not a reconstruction, we could be looking at a very similar situation to
39:50last season where the the totality of the sum of the parts in this backfield is very, very like valuable, but we
39:56don't really have a single player we can trust in fantasy. I think that's that's a concern here.
40:01>> And the repair, that's not that's not wild to think. You know, we see ACL repairs return at around 7 months. And
40:09that's that's the main reason why I saw that post and I thought if week one's a close call, I mean, that's pretty close
40:14to the 7-week timeframe.
40:16I wonder if he have an a repair versus a reconstruction. Otherwise, like you said, there's no way.
40:22>> Yeah, that's the biggest thing we got to figure out with Charbonnet. Hopefully, we'll get some some concrete reporting here in the next couple of days. If
40:28you're drafting a managed league this weekend, Charbonnet looks like one of the best stash picks you can make, especially in formats like Yahoo. If
40:35you're drafting on Yahoo, you have an IR spot available already. You should be able to draft Charbonnet like 110 overall, 120 overall, stash him on a on
40:43your IR spot.
40:46And then just wait. We'll see. He's one of the best stashes you can make in managed leagues right now for all the
40:50reasons Jeff just pointed out. I am excited about Judarian Price and his upside in this offense. I think he could be a really solid early down runner in
40:58this team for this team. But yeah, Charbonnet coming back earlier than we expect certainly would would hurt the value there. Let's pivot over to two
41:05running backs coming back from similar types of injuries, but one was a lot more severe than the other.
41:10Quinyon Judkins and Cam Akers both had nasty leg-breaking injuries last year.
41:15Both impacted their you know, basically their entire legs.
41:19Akers, you noted in your article that his his injury was a lot more severe.
41:24Let's talk through that one first. Akers going in the fourth round.
41:29The volume was fantastic last season. He immediately took over the backfield by week two or week three. Pretty much ethered Tyron Tracy. I think we have to
41:38have a little concern that Akers won't be able to maintain that workload at least early in the season. But Jeff, what's your opinion of his outlook and
41:46how you know, what was the severity of the injury and how that impacts his 2026 projection here?
41:52>> Yeah, so it was an open fracture. So basically the bone punctured the skin.
41:59Fibula and mixed reports. I saw some reports say tibia fracture as well.
42:04I didn't see that on video. But again, that's not video is not diagnostic.
42:09And then some reports did say tibia as well. So, possibly tib-fib as well.
42:13Um deltoid ligament rupture. So, they recon- they address all of that in surgery, which is a ton.
42:21I'm not overly concerned on like a lot of people bring up Tony Pollard, and I I even made a comparison Tony Pollard. Pollard relies a little
42:29bit more on lateral agility, explosiveness, where where Scat relies a little bit more on power, um and churning, and short yardage.
42:39Like, I'm not as concerned on Scat's return to performance as I would be someone like Kenneth Walker, someone like Jahmyr Gibbs, where they would rely
42:49a little bit more on explosiveness.
42:51Um so, that's why I'm I'm honestly at cost, I'm fine drafting him, especially knowing that his receiving ability is really good.
43:00Typically, in these cases, uh receiving production props that player up in year one, um from a fantasy point
43:10standpoint, worth it at cost compared to their rushing production. So, that's that's where in the article, I believe I said I'm a little bit higher on Scat
43:18than I am Judkins just because of that projected receiving workload.
43:22>> Yeah, I think that's a that's the perfect delineation there. Judkins, it's not just the receiving workload that we're concerned about. Dylan Sampson was
43:29a pretty good pass-catcher last year, and he's going to kind of chop into Judkins' upside. It's also the offense.
43:35The Browns are the worst offense in football by our fantasy points projections, they're third worst in implied points per game. So, we've got some legitimate
43:43touchdown upside with Judkins.
43:46With Judkins specifically, how like how dissimilar or how similar were the injuries for he and Scat, and were they close to like, you know,
43:53Chris Godwin's injury, where he was really struggling to come back last year? Godwin might have had a setback that with the he needed to take care of.
44:01So, we have we do have that caveat, but kind of what are there any examples of of players returning and returning well
44:07from these styles of injury.
44:09>> Yeah, Godwin Godwin's severity-wise I would say Godwin's is worse than Scat Abo's than Judkins. Judkins only dealt with the fibula fracture, ankle
44:19dislocation with minimal ligament damage. And I think that's why we we saw some of those videos in OTAs where he was already cutting. People were
44:27shocked. Um and I think that's why because there's just generally less tissue trauma. Um but Scat Abo's also not on pup. Um he's he's out in camp and
44:37we saw him running routes, moving around pretty well, cutting. Um so oddly enough they're both kind of on the same time
44:43frame even though Judkins' injury was significantly less severe.
44:48Um >> Yeah.
44:49>> And Godwin had two surgeries.
44:51>> Yes, he did.
44:52>> key factor.
44:53>> Yeah, he needed two surgeries and he was not he wasn't running or cutting or anything in August last year. So yeah,
44:59you're just you're just dead on. Both players should be full go. A little bit more concerned just with this severity of an injury with like Jeff said with
45:07Scat [ __ ] My main concern with both these players is really just the quality of the offense. Less so with Scat [ __ ]
45:13now that Neighbors is back. The Giants' offense, you know, with Malik Neighbors is just significantly better. I think the two big linchpins for the Giants
45:21this year isn't Scat [ __ ] it's not Dar.
45:23It's actually Andrew Thomas and Malik Neighbors. Both those players staying healthy is going to be the biggest impact for this Giants team. So it's
45:30good to hear Jeff's thoughts and and and optimism about Scat [ __ ] and Judkins in particular. We just have some more kind
45:36of projection-based concerns when it comes to Judkins in particular and his past down role and the quality of the offense here.
45:42We'll pivot over to two pass catchers, Jeff, that I have to ask you about. Rome Odunze went viral for his, you know,
45:47frankly awesome and honest open comments. We need to hear more players speak like this about their injuries and just kind of what they're feeling. I
45:55think there's just a general like sense of like I don't want to give away too much or make it seem like I'm weak or
46:00anything like that when it comes to football.
46:02Rome comes out and says, "This is my new normal. I had a really bad foot injury last year." Jeff can speak to more about
46:07what the details are. But, I got to ask you, Jeff, what's your level of concern about Odunze going into this season? And
46:13like, if you could grade it on a one-to-five scale, five being that the biggest concern, one being like, "Oh, it's no big deal."
46:20Where should fantasy managers be thinking about this foot injury when it comes to Rome Odunze?
46:25>> Yeah, um I want to put him at a four.
46:29Not necessarily five. I'm not a like huge red flag on him. I want to put him at a four. But, I think I'd be fine
46:34putting him at a three out of five on a risk scale. The reason being, and I I know everyone's going to point to some
46:41of the videos that have popped up. He's moving really well. He looks like himself. The concern with him is that he
46:47had a stress fracture that he kept playing through. Um didn't let it heal properly at first. And now those comments, anytime a player says there's
46:54a new normal, that tells me that that fracture may not have healed fully and like it was before injury, which typically those stress fractures
47:04should heal like that. It just I don't even feel it anymore. Maybe a little ache, but it doesn't feel different.
47:09But, if it created a little mal- not a malunion, but just a deformity, that can change the structure of his foot. And for wide receivers, I have a
47:18big concern with that because everything starts at the foot. Route running, impact, ground reaction forces, it's going to change how loading occurs
47:26through his entire lower extremity. And it can cause compensatory issues. Um so, it And again, it's one of those things where
47:35he could go the next five years, no problems. He could go the next five weeks of aggressive football play and deal with a hamstring
47:43strain, deal with something on that insi- on that side that's loaded more because of his new normal, his new structure. I don't love when structure
47:50changes at the foot. And that's the reason.
47:54>> Yeah, hearing you say a level four out of five is is a concern to me. I'll be honest, I have not drafted any Rome
48:00Odunze. I've I've been more on the Colston Loveland train this season.
48:04Loveland over his last 12 games last year averaged 14.5 PPR points per game, Jeff. That was like top five, top six
48:11fantasy numbers if you play out it over the full season. I also think we have some just like projection, just football-based concerns here with this
48:18offense. Caleb Williams was awesome for fantasy last year. He was, you know, scrambling around making plays, and that really helps for fantasy, but the the
48:26accuracy is still not totally there with Caleb Williams. Your fantasy points data we chart, catchable throw rate, Caleb Williams once again was you know, at or
48:35near the bottom of the league in most buckets throwing down the field. That's more of a concern for Odunze just because of his route depths and what
48:41he's asked to do in this offense. A little bit less of a concern for players like Colston Loveland and Luther Burden,
48:47who both get a ton of, you know, designed plays around the line of scrimmage, but also just shallower throws where they're running after the
48:53catch. So, yeah, hearing you say that about Odunze, maybe the injury discount isn't enough on him. Maybe he should be going a little bit later, and he is a
49:01player that I am concerned about going into this season as well, just because one, we really don't know who's going to
49:07lead this team in targets. I truly none of us know right now who's going to lead this team in targets between any of
49:12these three players. And two, we just have this other layer of Odunze's probably, you know, not 100% the same player he was coming out of college due
49:21to this injury for all the Jeff's reasons he just mentioned. And he's got so much target competition between Luther Burden and especially Colston
49:28Loveland, who just looked like a freaking freight train at the end of last season. Speaking of freight trains, Tucker Kraft is coming back from an ACL
49:36injury he suffered in October. The guy is just I would never in a million years want to try and tackle Tucker Kraft in
49:43the open field, especially the way the Packers use him, man. They do a great job of setting up screens, getting him
49:49involved as a blocker, and then you know, kind of using that deception to to get him in space. He's coming back from
49:54an ACL injury as well.
49:57I'm looking at Kraft right now just without speaking to you, Jeff, as a slight injury discount. He last season was the tight end four, tight end five
50:06in fantasy points per game. Right now, he's going around tight end six or tight end seven in ADP. So, there's a slight
50:12discount there based on production.
50:14Should there Should we expect a dip in his production? And in my opinion, I I don't know if you saw the news. It does seem a little bullish
50:23that the Packers are willing to extend him. There's some been some buzz that he might get extended here in the next
50:28couple weeks as they try to lock up Christian Christian Watson and Jayden Reed along with Kraft. So, what should we expect from Tucker Kraft this season?
50:37And should will he be on the field, in your opinion, in week one?
50:41>> Yeah, he started He's on PUP now, but the expectation is that he's active week one.
50:46Um a majority [clears throat] of the majority of the conversation, I feel like, in the injury realm with him has been circling around cost and then
50:55routes run, expected routes that he'll run.
50:58Um I know Adam Hutchinson and I were going back and forth on him because he's right in I I kind of like his cost because
51:04he's right around where Harold Fan- Harold Fannin was and Sam LaPorta. And both of them are coming off injuries.
51:10Maybe we have time, we can talk about them, too. But with Kraft, I think I'd be a little more concerned if I hadn't looked at Christian Watson's
51:20utilization um last year, where he wasn't necessarily eased in. Matt LaFleur kind of threw him right in. First two weeks, maybe a slight dip in routes run and
51:31target share and all that. And then the two weeks after that, so within his first four weeks of playing, he was he
51:38was up there in usage. Um Tucker Kraft is even more important to this offense for Matt LaFleur. Especially now that Not a lot of people have seen this, but
51:46Luke Musgrave if he was fully healthy, I could see maybe they rely on him a little bit more to ease Tucker Kraft in.
51:54Luke Musgrave might not even play this year. He has a neck injury that they're looking at he he hopefully it's not
52:00career-ending like a like a Chris Carson injury, but it sounds like possibly a disc issue or something where they're they're looking at him. They I wouldn't
52:08be surprised if they add a tight end here soon.
52:10Um but all that being said multiple factors all that tied together I I kind of expect Tucker Kraft to be active week one and not be eased in
52:20because of the factors involved with everybody else.
52:23>> Yeah, the Musgrave injury is a compounding factor as well and this is something that you know, the Packers ideally would want to try to be multiple
52:30and play a lot of 11 personnel obviously with Kraft being the inline tight end, but they also probably want to play a
52:35lot of 12 and and try to mix and match some Luke Musgrave in. So, you're right that he might be thrown right into the
52:40fire at least initially to start just because you know, they don't really have anybody else to play behind him this season. You mentioned Harold Fannin he
52:48got off-season groin injury. Is that right Jeff?
52:51>> Yeah, and and real quick too. I mean running projections from last year if Tucker Kraft had even like a 20% 15%
52:59regression, I think he'd still come out to about 13 fantasy points per game.
53:04>> Still very usable. That's like top six top seven in fantasy.
53:07That's still a great player for sure.
53:09>> Yeah, and the expectation would be after the first quarter and then into the into the um mid-season for fantasy weeks that
53:17his production would just keep increasing efficiency-wise.
53:20Um so that's that's why I'm in on Tucker Kraft.
53:23Loved that news on Harold Fannin that he got surgery because those sports hernias, groin injuries, those can linger if they're not addressed and they
53:31can cause repetitive issues, repetitive injuries. And honestly Kenneth Walker I probably should have talked about that.
53:37He had multiple groin injuries and then had sports hernia surgery and no groin injuries after that. Um so I loved hearing that about Harold Fannin and it
53:45explained why he was limited in OTAs.
53:48And those come with near zero long-term or recurrent risk. Um so Harold Fannin, I'm not fading at all injury-wise. Sam LaPorta is the one I'm a little
53:57concerned about only because Yeah, only because well microdiscectomy, anytime someone has surgery on their disc, I don't love it. But then also looking at
54:06his role as a tight end, not only does he have to run routes and he's going to take hits from these big vicious
54:12linebackers and safeties coming in really really hot, but he's also going to have to block um at times. He's going to be asked to block and he's going to
54:20be forced into extensions. It's just going to be a lot of pressure on his spine.
54:24Um and I don't love that as a variable, but I'm not overly fading him. I like his cost behind Kraft and Fannin right
54:32now.
54:34>> Yeah, LaPorta is fully healthy going into this off season. Uh it is good to to note that. But I mean the guy has
54:41dealt with a ton of injuries in his career. He played through a really bad ankle injury in the playoff run. Uh
54:46through to I mean he played well through that injury as well. Uh I think my concern with LaPorta is not necessarily
54:53uh injury-based, although Jeff is is making me rethink that as well. It's more so just like last season Jameson Williams before Dan Campbell got
55:02involved with the play-calling and kind of took that back over from John Morton, Williams really wasn't involved in the offense. It was very split. Like Amon-Ra
55:10St. Brown was just dominating targets.
55:11Got like 39% of the first read, something ridiculous. But then Jameson Williams and LaPorta were splitting targets. And in my opinion, Williams is
55:19just more explosive and a a bigger asset to the Lions offense in terms of who you want to be designing throws to. So even
55:25though there's maybe like it's clearly Amon-Ra being the alpha, maybe there's like a 2A and 2B type situation with LaPorta and Williams. I do think both
55:33players kind of cap each other's upside.
55:35Uh I've been saying on the pod though all offseason, Jeff, I am extremely excited about the Lions. Uh they're the top one of the top projected offenses
55:42here at FantasyPoints. They are actually our top projected team by total fantasy points. They have the easiest strength of schedule by the Vegas win totals this
55:49year. You're probably going to want a lot of Lions on your offense for fantasy this season, and Sam LaPorta certainly fits into that this year. Um it's good
55:58to hear your enthusiasm though about Harold Landry I I like I loved hearing that.
56:03>> Yeah, and and just to clarify on LaPorta, I don't say that as a way of I don't want people to hear that and start
56:08fading him and cuz, you know, there's the Petzing Drew Petzing, I think I'm saying his name correctly.
56:13>> Yep, you got >> Um how he utilizes tight ends. My My last concern on Sam LaPorta, he's cleared every single other box. He's
56:21checked every box. My last concern on him is when the pads come on, how his body how his spine absorbs contact, and
56:29how he how how that goes over the next couple months.
56:33Um so, he can very easily check those boxes, too. So, I wouldn't overly fade him.
56:39>> Yeah, the price is fine on LaPorta. Um you know, I've I've talked to Ryan Heath quite a bit about this. On the one hand,
56:45uh you know, Harold Landry and Sam LaPorta, both players are going right at tight end six, tight end seven. You have
56:49to make this decision in your draft. I'm kind of on Fannin just because the volume. I think he could lead this team
56:55in targets in a way that LaPorta really doesn't have that in his range of outcomes. But, Ryan's made a great point, you know, it's he's like, "Dude,
57:01the quality of the offense is just so much better with the Lions." And he's just right. It is legitimately very close between these two players, and two
57:08two players frankly that could be a difference-makers in fantasy this season Jeff.
57:13This has been fantastic This Yeah, it is a hard call, man. This has been fantastic, and you've really helped with some of these hard calls.
