A.J. Brown

NegativeInjury0:32

AJ Brown suffered an injury that will place him on IR, removing him from fantasy availability for the foreseeable future.

Insight page

Adam Thielen

NegativeRole19:24

Adam Thielen maintains the primary receiver role in the Panthers offense alongside Tee Higgins, who is in a new role. Thielen remains the primary receiver option in Carolina's passing game.

Insight page

Bryce Young

NegativeRole21:40

Bryce Young may avoid constant shotgun usage against the weak Bears pass defense, allowing the Panthers to play their preferred offensive style. However, benching risk remains a significant concern given he was benched in year two by this regime and could face the plug pulled if the Panthers fall to 2-7 or similar record. The source notes Young averages 20 fantasy points in high-scoring games when forced to pass, showing competence in spread-heavy circumstances, though his best NFL moments have come in those scenarios rather than the base offense.

Insight page

Bucky Irving

PositiveRole36:57

Primary back for Tampa Bay with multiple fantasy advantages: better pure runner than Kenny Gainwell and also a good receiver; even while splitting with Rashad White last year, Irving got plenty of targets and produced efficiently on them. The source projects Irving as a 1A back with chunk playability on early downs (similar to Joe Mixon's role with Cincinnati), and if Sean Tucker doesn't play, Irving should have a clear goal-line role. Irving has been a strong receiver for two years, and the source compares his potential receiving volume to Jaylen Warren's 40 receptions last year while splitting with Gainwell. Week 1 setup is favorable: facing a Bengals defense that was bad against the run, and if the Bengals experiment with new looks (expected given offseason training camp focus), Irving could be the focal point. The source came away feeling good about Irving's Week 1 prospects and believes if he's not a bust this year, this game will pay immediate dividends.

Insight page

Chase Brown

NegativeUsage34:46

Chase Brown's receiving efficiency is a major concern despite high snap and route volume; he averaged under 7 yards per catch over the past two years and had terrible yards per target last year, suggesting his fantasy production has come from volume rather than efficiency. The source is skeptical he'll see significantly more passing volume despite speculation about a CMC-like role, noting he already received heavy targets last year without strong output. However, in Week 1 specifically against Tampa Bay's run defense, the source projects Brown will stack catches as the Bengals are forced into a quick passing game, unable to establish the run. The source suggests he's a tough round-one pick but could be viable in round two, with Week 1 DFS ceiling limited unless he scores a receiving touchdown.

Insight page

Chuba Hubbard

PositiveInjury15:51

Chuba Hubbard is healthy heading into Week 1 against the Bears, indicating full availability for the Panthers running back. Combined with Jonathan Brooks being off the injury report, the Panthers backfield is fully operational for a matchup against a weak Bears defense.

Insight page

Cole Kmet

PositiveRole17:32

Cole Kmet is expected to be the catalyst for the Bears offense early in the season, having worked with Caleb Williams throughout the entire offseason and positioned as the focal point of early-season play-calling. The matchup against Carolina's cover-three defense (second in NFL cover-three rate last year, third in 2024) provides a significant advantage, as tight ends league-wide get a target bump against cover three. Kmet averaged 2.5 yards per route run against cover three last year with just under 30% target per route rate. Rome Odome's calf injury and nicked-up status further supports Kmet having a healthy target share early on.

Insight page

Colston Loveland

PositiveMatchup13:10

Loveland is positioned as a primary upside play in Week 1 against the Panthers, who rank second in the NFL in cover three rate and have been consistently vulnerable to play-action passing. The Bears' offensive scheme—run-first approach with play-action off-tackle—sets up perfectly for a pass-catching tight end; Panthers were a clear run funnel last season and will likely overplay the run, creating explosive opportunities downfield. Against cover three specifically, Loveland posted 2.5 yards per route run and just under 30% target per route rate last year, and tight ends league-wide get a target bump against cover three. The source notes this matchup is "perfectly suited for a pass-catching traditional tight end" and expects Loveland to be "the catalyst" early in the season, having worked with Caleb Williams throughout the offseason.

Insight page

Cooper Rush

NegativeProjection4:31

Starting for the Falcons in Week 1 as a downgrade from Tua Tagovailoa; the source expresses concern about the offense becoming non-functional with Rush at QB, with potential for the team to go run-heavy and reduce pass volume. This creates a slog-like game script that dampens offensive upside.

Insight page

D'Onta Foreman

PositiveRole20:00

D'Onta Foreman is positioned to add explosiveness to the Panthers' running game. Coming off an ACL reinjury with preseason soreness concerns, Foreman appears off the injury report and good to go for Week 1. How much he plays and his current ability level remain big questions, but the source sees upside for the Panthers to run the ball a good amount or stay balanced. The Panthers' minus-2% pass play-calling rate is not bad for game flow and over-hitting potential.

Insight page

Darnell Washington

PositiveUsage11:46

In run-heavy game scripts, Washington typically sees more snaps than Freiermuth. Preseason data showed the Steelers with a 50% run rate and similar personnel splits to last year, suggesting Washington could see increased usage. The source is not touching tight ends this week but is closely monitoring Washington for potential upside if the Steelers lean into more run-heavy personnel.

Insight page

DK Metcalf

NegativeProjection12:00

The source projects Metcalf to receive a decent target share in Week 1, but expresses uncertainty about the overall pass attempt volume the Seahawks will generate, limiting ceiling potential for the wide receiver.

Insight page

Drake London

NegativeRole7:14

With Cooper Rush at QB, Drake London will not have as great access to easy targets; Almeda Zakius and Zachariah Branch taking slot snaps reduces London's inside opportunities. Even with Tua it would have been a problem, but with Rush and the Steelers' strong defense (Joey Porter Jr., Jamal Dean), this becomes a non-sealing game for London. The source had him ranked as a wide receiver two but expects him to move down.

Insight page

George Pickens

NegativeValue0:03

Pickens proved his worth and earned a move to the Cowboys, but is playing on a franchise tag this year rather than receiving a long-term deal, which limits his immediate financial reward despite his demonstrated production. The source expresses frustration that Pickens cannot be immediately rewarded for his performance and must wait for eventual contract security.

Insight page

Ja'Marr Chase

PositiveMatchup50:57

Chase has a strong Week 1 matchup advantage against the Buccaneers secondary, which looks bad on paper; the Bucs are elevating Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parish at cornerback outside of Zion McCollum, and both were awful last year. The source explicitly prefers getting Burrow in shotgun to let Chase attack this weak secondary rather than playing under center against Tampa's strong front seven. Chase is a foundational piece of the Bengals' offensive identity; the team was built around Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, and T. Higgins as core strengths, and the source argues the Bengals should lean into this strength rather than experimenting with run-heavy and under-center approaches that limit their effectiveness.

Insight page

Jalen McMillan

PositiveBreakout26:00

The source views McMillan as a high-end wide receiver with high upside setup despite fair criticism about the Falcons offense's ability to elevate receivers; the key thesis is that if McMillan is truly a really good receiver, the offense limitations become secondary to his talent, and his best fantasy moments have come in high-scoring games when forced to play. McMillan was third in the NFL on third-down target share last year but only 22nd on early downs; if he achieves 30-40% slot rate in 2024 (preseason showed 40%), this dramatically improves both floor and ceiling, enabling 6-10 catch games and more consistent production.

Insight page

Jaylen Waddle

PositiveValue22:22

Waddle was the big ADP jumper in the 11th hour of summer drafting, moving up significantly from late fourth to mid-late fourth round; the source credits the industry with collectively moving the market on Waddle, demonstrating market-moving power around his draft capital. The source had more faith in Waddle's ceiling outcome compared to ADP peers like Toroa McMillan due to playing in a better overall offense than the Panthers.

Insight page

Jaylen Warren

PositiveUsage10:10

The source expects Warren to see significant usage in the Steelers-Falcons game, viewing him and Rico Dowel as interchangeable in the backfield. Warren is characterized as 'legit good'—a more efficient runner than Dowel last year and an elite receiver with 40 receptions despite Kenny Gainwell's strong receiving year. The source believes Warren's versatility will eventually resolve in his favor long-term, though Week 1 may feature an equal split with Dowel.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeMatchup27:59

Burrow has a concerning Week 1 track record: he averages 15 offensive fantasy points per game in his Week 1 starts and has never scored 20+ fantasy points in six Week 1 starts; the Bengals are notoriously bad in Week 1 games, and their games under Zack Taylor are 6-1 to the under, making Week 1 vs. Tampa Bay a particularly risky spot. Additionally, the Bengals' Week 1 shift to under-center play-calling (55% in preseason despite his highest season being 35% in 2021 and near-zero usage in recent years) will limit Burrow's effectiveness; the source emphasizes Burrow is an elite processor who thrives in shotgun, and the new under-center approach will reduce his field vision and overall effectiveness compared to playing to the team's strengths.

Insight page

Jonathan Taylor

PositiveValue5:12

After Week 1 results, the source now prefers Jonathan Taylor over Christian McCaffrey, suggesting JT offers better value or upside relative to CMC's Week 1 performance and touch distribution concerns.

Insight page

Jonathon Brooks

NegativeInjury15:51

Jonathan Brooks is off the injury report heading into Week 1, indicating full health status for the Panthers running back. This clears a potential concern for Panthers offensive production in a matchup where they face a weak Bears defense.

Insight page

Kyle Pitts

PositiveRole9:00

The source had considered a potential Injoku-style role for Pitts with Tua—getting the ball in his hands quickly with more consistent target opportunities—but with Cooper Rush at QB, confidence in that role materializing drops significantly. Even if the scheme does happen, the source questions what it actually gets him in fantasy value.

Insight page

Michael Pittman

NegativeInjury9:51

Pittman missed essentially all of preseason with a hamstring injury; Aaron Rodgers stated he has not worked with Pittman in practice due to the injury, indicating a ramp-up period is expected and limiting his early-season usage and fantasy ceiling.

Insight page

Sean Tucker

NegativeInjury36:42

Listed as doubtful for Week 1 against the Bengals with significant role uncertainty under the new regime; Tucker was not tendered in the offseason, then tendered at the 11th hour, and saw limited first-team offensive work during training camp, suggesting he may not be a real part of the regime's plans. The source questions whether the Buccaneers are artificially elevating Tucker's goal-line role beyond what he'll actually receive, noting he had zero carries from inside the five last year and may have been a "last year thing" when injured. If Tucker doesn't play, this clears the goal-line role for Bucky Irving.

Insight page

Tee Higgins

PositiveMatchup19:24

Tee Higgins has a strong Week 1 matchup advantage against the Bears' weak interior receiver defense. The Bears were awful against interior receivers last year and did not upgrade that weakness. Higgins is in a new role with the Panthers, and if the Panthers get pushed early and game flow favors them, Higgins has an opportunity for a really strong game. Additionally, Higgins has a strong matchup advantage against the Buccaneers secondary in another context, which looks bad on paper; the Bucs are elevating Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parish at cornerback outside of Zion McCollum, and both were awful last year. The source explicitly prefers getting Burrow in shotgun to let Jamar Chase and Higgins go against this weak secondary rather than playing under center against Tampa's strong front seven. Higgins is also a foundational piece of the Bengals' offensive identity; the team was built around Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, and Higgins as core strengths.

Insight page

Tua Tagovailoa

NegativeInjury5:12

Ruled out for Week 1 despite being named the week one starter; this was significant enough that a bettor had a substantial position on Tua winning the week one starter job and had to cash out at 99 cents on the dollar to avoid the uncertainty. The source believes the Dolphins are done with Tua and will move to Pennix when healthy.

0:00Welcome to the Legendary Upside podcast and YouTube channel. My name is Pat Karine. Follow my content at legendaryupsside.com. With me today,
0:07Rich Reebar for our angles and upside podcast. Reeves, how's it going?
0:12>> It's going good, man. And we've already got two two games in, you know, they both kind of, you know, underwhelmed,
0:18but that's, you know, week one, uh, in the NFL since they've set up this, you know, you new system with three playoff
0:24or three preseason games in the 17th week. Uh these games have historically like since they've done that gone under this week.
0:32>> Yeah. Yeah. Neither game was was was great. And then of course we had uh an injury to AJ Brown that's going to put
0:39him on IR. And um we also had the Sean Stribbling injury scare where fortunately it's an ankle injury.
0:47>> Darnold. Yeah. Darnold's going to be out for a while. So not like an ideal start to the season I have to say.
0:55Yeah. No. Yeah. And even even last night the stuff was weird. You know, we had like obviously there's like a full-on
1:02like pandemonium about like CMC and Kayn Black getting touches. Devonte Adams like didn't even play in the red zone which was really weird. Right. And and
1:09like you know I always try to remind people like you know week one it's obviously 100% of our sample when we get
1:15it. Yeah.
1:15>> But you know throughout the years like there's just so many examples of it. So like if this stuff happens in week nine
1:21you don't bat an eye. But the fact that stuff happens in week one, uh it is like an avalanche uh that you know people
1:27with the full-on panic. Uh you know last year I mean like the the Raiders went into the New England and just like curb
1:32stomped the Patriots, right? Like Gene Gino threw for like 400 yards 362 but like for you know Keon Coleman was like
1:40football Jesus on Sunday night uh last year in week one and did nothing, you know. So it it I understand like this is
1:47our first like a tip of the iceberg. So it's easy to like kind of go crazy with these things, but also let's like let it
1:51breathe a little bit.
1:52>> It's kind of like the preseason where there is signal, but like there's also just a ton of noise and so you have to
1:57be careful not to like just buy everything and throw out all of your priors because of one game. But like at
2:04the same time, the stuff that we I I just I think the probably the most helpful way to do it is like how
2:10confident was I ahead of time like on CMC. Like I'm not worried about CMC.
2:16Like he's he's still was heavily involved as a receiver. He actually looked good as a runner. I was I was more nervous he just looked like totally
2:23washed as a runner. He looked kind of good.
2:25>> It's funny because there's like the trade-off, right? Like would you rather have CMC get 25 touches and look terrible or get 18 opportunities and
2:31look good? way way more the latter. Like it's week one, right? Like we need him to score, we need him to win us leagues
2:39in December, in January actually this year. So it's uh >> Right. Right.
2:44>> To me, I'm like, yeah, have some juice, you know, like if you don't if you don't like have an insane workload week one in
2:52Australia, well, you know, he's reportedly suffering some cramps and stuff. And like I'm sure Kayn Black was always going to get more work than you
3:00and I and everyone else would have assumed.
3:02And that's like not ideal for McCaffrey, but I also think it's like better than my expectation that he looked like he
3:10had some real pop as a runner again.
3:12>> Like that was not a given at all. So I I feel like pretty neutral on CMC. I'd probably like take JT over him now. But
3:20>> that's about it. Uh but on the other hand, Kaylin Black wheels up like like clearly he's the handcuff. He looks
3:28good. So, it's more like I didn't know what to make of the running back two situation. It looked like it was black,
3:33but I wasn't sure.
3:34>> And so, now it's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's black and he's probably pretty good. So, you know, I moved him up in my
3:40main event rankings uh after the game because people are still drafting their main events.
3:45>> I moved up him up a lot. Like, I put him up next to like Woody Marks and stuff.
3:49Um, so >> makes sense.
3:51>> If you have I mean, yeah, that might I'm I don't even know if that gets you him.
3:54I I'm not sure. I'm not out in Vegas this year, so I don't know where he's gone today, but >> probably not. Probably not actually.
4:00>> Yeah, it might not be. It might be high enough. Yeah. But that's the kind of stuff like we don't have like our prior
4:04is basically like so if that's your prior then like you move hard on the new information.
4:11>> Yeah. Yeah. I I dig that. Yeah. It's like you said this the funny like maybe he loses like a little bit of like like
4:18top down like because like he he maybe had like the ceiling to threaten like Gibbs in a perfect run out but like I
4:25don't think that exists really now.
4:27>> It it it doesn't I mean Gibbs is just >> Yeah.
4:30>> It's going to be out.
4:31>> It's a perfect intersection. And now we've got Bejon starting at Cooper Rush like >> Yeah. Yeah. I know dude. I know.
4:41>> It's wild. I went to pull up the Cooper Rush thing and he started We'll I guess we'll get there because we're talking He
4:47started two games and it's zero.
4:48>> Let's just Yeah, there's no set order that we need to to.
4:52>> So, um let's just let's just start with Start with an easy one.
4:56>> Yeah, we'll get this one done quick because we we have we have less time. I figured, hey, it's week one. You know,
5:01we we all kind of know what the 2025 season stats tell us. We don't have 2026 data on any of these teams. So like
5:08maybe we'll maybe we'll be a little bit quicker than we sometimes are in the middle of the season where we're diving
5:12into a bunch of trends. But uh let's let's talk the Falcons. Tuang Valoa are now ruled out. Uh he was named the week
5:18one starter and uh Sacrilla just had like a a decent chunk of change on >> the week one starter market for Tua. He
5:28had him as the week one starter.
5:30>> Oh, it doesn't count.
5:32>> No, he Well, he he was smart enough to have cashed out. So, he took his win at 99 cents on the dollar. He got out, but
5:39I think I think the bet technically or the prediction technically settled at uh >> um as like to a winning the job, but but
5:48yeah, he was like, I'm not dealing with whatever happens there. But anyway, he was he was sweating that pretty hard there for about a week because it looked
5:56like Penn was if Penn was healthy, he would have been the starter, I think.
5:59Right.
5:59>> And he will be, I think, whenever he's ready.
6:03Yeah, I think I I mean, yeah, I think so, too. I think they they pretty much done with with Tua is my read on it. How
6:11big how big of a a factor do you think this is, though, for uh the offense to go to Cooper Rush? Like the downgrade
6:18from Tua even to Rush?
6:20>> Yeah, I mean, Tua looked so bad in the preseason, it's hard to even say like if if it's like going to like fully impact
6:25things. I had already like bet the Steelers in this game and was pretty like bullish on, you know, the them kind
6:32of controlling this game script, especially on the road in Pittsburgh. I think the Pittsburgh defense like especially at the start of the year when
6:39everyone's like fresh and like age hasn't set in like looks pretty awesome on paper. Uh if these guys can stay healthy, I mean them adding, you know,
6:47Ray Sean Jenkins, Jamal Dean, and Jaquin Brisker is like a pretty big deal. And we'll see if Joey Porter plays or if
6:52he's still just like kind of holding out. I saw like parentheses back and it's like yeah well his back doesn't have a a big backpack full of money on
6:59it. That's that's why he's holding out still. But as I saw he's questionable. But I mean the there's other concerns I think just
7:08with this offense that that concern me uh in general. Like I think in general the the big thing that I'm most
7:14concerned about is the fact that like Drake London's probably not going to have as great access to like easy targets like these easy button targets.
7:24Yeah.
7:24>> And when Penn comes back I think it's less of an issue because Pennix will throw outside the numbers and he will
7:30throw vertically. But the fact that Almeida Zakius and Zachariah Branch are like default wide receiver three, wide receiver four, like it's just it just
7:38cuts off some of Drake London's slot snaps. And we saw that a little bit in the very small sample of the preeason.
7:45And like if he's stuck playing outside with Cooper Rush, uh, and it would have been a problem with Tua anyways. It's
7:51probably less of a problem with with Cooper Rush, but you know, with Joey Porter Jr. and Jamal Dean. Like it was
7:56just like a a situation where I just thought it was going to be a like a nonsealing game for Drake London to
8:02begin with.
8:05>> Yeah, I'm I'm with you. I mean, Lovelin I I do think Lovelin moves down. I just think the offense, like the potential
8:12for the offense to be just completely non-functional is so much higher with rush and then them also the potential for them to just go really runheavy and
8:21just try to suck the pass volume out of this situation. And then like I was looking at on the Steelers side,
8:29they passed like at a normal rate last year and I don't really anticipate them going super pass heavy. think the hope
8:35if if you're look for like Mike McCarthy to boost uh the Steelers, I think you're really hoping for an efficiency increase. And uh so I'm not sure that
8:45like the Steelers are going to be injecting a bunch of volume into this game. Uh and so that's where this game
8:51starts to look kind of just like a slog.
8:54Um with with Cooper Rush, I with Kyle Pittz, I had kind of started to talk myself a little bit into like,
9:01>> okay, you have Tua. could you do some Injoku kind of stuff with Pitts and just get the ball in his hands real quick and
9:07you know him having more consistent target role and I think that could still happen but even that it's just like with
9:13Cooper Rush I feel less confident about that one like that might not happen and two even if it does what does it get me
9:20so um yeah I think I I had London as like as a wide receiver too this this week >> I don't know how yeah okay
9:30>> I had obviously you're starting Bejan But >> yeah, there's nothing you could do about it. I mean, you're probably not going to
9:35be as bullish on him, you know, from a DFS stance, especially with all the guys, you know, on board this week. And
9:42>> this game probably sets up to just be kind of a quick in-n-out game. This might be the first game done in the
9:47early games. Uh, you know, uh, >> that's a good bet. Yeah.
9:51>> You look at the Steelers, too, with Michael Pitman not practicing basically all preseason. Like Aaron Rogers openly talked last week. He's like, I just
9:58haven't done anything with him, you know, because he's had the hamstring. I think they're going to play a ton of 12
10:02personnel in this first game, you know, especially with James Pierce and Jaylen Walker being out. The Falcons retained Jeff Albrich as defensive coordinator
10:10and they got just steamrololled by tw 12 personnel runs last year. And I just think you're going to get a lot of Rico
10:15D and a lot of Jaylen Warren in this game. And I think they view those guys as interchangeable, too, which is which
10:22sucks for us. I don't >> Well, it's like why do they why like they're actually pretty different backs?
10:29Yeah, I think they're going to just like trade off though, right? Like I mean, how do you envision it going?
10:33>> No, I think you're right. I think they'll probably trade off series, but it is strange to me that they're >> to me like more and I've been a DA guy
10:40the last couple years because D's been basically he was he's very very cheap is you know what ended up being the starter
10:45in Dallas and then he was cheap last year because he's gets he gets treated like he's got no like no skill. He does.
10:53He has like some He's like slightly above a replacement level, I think. Like he's a solid enough back, but I think
10:59Warren's like legit good and, you know, was a better runner last year than Dowel, uh, more efficient, and then has been just a great receiver. He obviously
11:08lost some of that to Kenny Gainwell last year, but he still had 40 receptions even with Gainwell having a great year
11:12as a receiver. So, >> I think long term they're going to realize that Warren is he's more versatile. He's not like going to be an
11:21every down, you know, total workhorse type of guy, but I think it will resolve in Warren's favor this week. I I think
11:28you are right that they're just going to throw them out there and and kind of they'll be in an equal split.
11:34>> Yeah. So, both those guys I think are like, you know, matchup based flex. You hope one gets in the box or, you know,
11:39if you're playing them, you know, that's kind of what you're what you're hoping for.
11:43>> And that's re really kind of how I see the offense kind of rolling through.
11:46Typically in these games like too if they're going to have a run script it means that you will get like more
11:50Darnell Washington in the game than Frier Moose but it is a new new regime.
11:54Maybe you won't. Uh but the preseason we saw the same thing that we saw last year when Darnell Washington was on the
11:59field. Steelers had a 50% run rate. That was exactly what it was in the preseason and pri splits were basically the same
12:05too. So it's kind of hard to just really kind of glom on to like ceiling potential for the passing pieces. Um but
12:11you probably do get a decent target share here for DK. I just don't know how many overall pass pass attempts you'll
12:17get.
12:18>> I agree. I agree. I think Pitman is going to have a little bit of a ramp up period with all the time he missed like
12:23you were saying.
12:24>> Yeah.
12:25>> Um I noted the the tight ends is basically like I'm not touching these guys this week, but I am going to be
12:30closely monitoring it because I would like if they played more Darnell Washington to be honest. I think I think he's just so fun. We've talked about
12:36him. We're fans, but I think it probably is just a split. But it'd be, you know, something that could be a nice surprise
12:43if if Washington gets more run. Um, all right, let's move to Well, we didn't discuss, do we have any wagon of the week candidates? Uh,
12:54>> uh, yeah, I think we our two pretty clear ones are what, the Lions and the Chargers.
13:00>> I think there's a third, uh, candidate.
13:02Let's talk about Let's talk about the Bears at Panthers because I think the Bears could be >> an immediate wagon as well. Uh, I made
13:10Coloulson Lovelin. He's >> a fun game.
13:12>> Uh, and Luther Burton kind of a co- cover boy.
13:16>> Um, and what I what jumped out to me about this game is you have the Panthers not having a good run defense last year
13:27and not having a good pass defense. And this like very much fits with exactly what the Bears want to do, right? They
13:33want to be a team that has a tilt to the run and then they're efficiently um working off of that and creating
13:39explosive plays in the pass game.
13:41Panthers were a clear run funnel last season and uh you know it just like it sets up very nicely for the Bears to be
13:49able to kind of play their style of offense. And then thinking through that a little more as well, it's like okay,
13:55you've got this run first approach then you're probably play actioning off of that. that could set up really nicely for Coloulston Lovelin here. Uh
14:05especially if the the Panthers end up kind of having to overplay the run a little bit because they're just getting getting roasted, you know, by these
14:12consistent chunk gains and stuff. And so, you know, I I was not a huge Coulson Lovelin guy in drafts this summer, but
14:20purely because he was just really expensive. And it's like one of those things where if you drafted a bunch of Coulson Loveland this year
14:29and and you're right, I think you'll know like pretty quickly, right? I'm not expecting the Coulson Loveland bet was not like over the course of the year
14:37he'll kind of earn more. It's like no, he was the guy down the stretch. The plan is going to be built around him and
14:44he's just going to crush right out of the gate in a matchup that's kind of perfectly suited for a passcatching traditional tight end. um which is you
14:53know kind of how he that's what he was profiling as is like a guy who can who can be a force in the run game and a
14:59true downfield weapon as a receiver. So I'm kind of excited about uh the Bears offense here. In addition, the Bears defense is not good. They haven't really
15:11put that many resources into it, which I applaud them for. like good, you know, you have a you have a struggling Caleb
15:16Williams, you bring in Ben Johnson, rebuild the offensive line and get some weapons and and score a lot of points.
15:22Like that's smart team building to me.
15:23You know, you you make sure that that Williams gets back on track and regains his confidence. Like that's going to pay
15:30huge dividends long term. You'll figure that the defense out eventually. Just get the offense sorted out. That's exactly what they've done. I think it's
15:35genuinely very smart, but it's also awesome for us because the defense is so bad that the Panthers should be able to
15:42put up points. Panthers are at home here. Uh, you know, they've got they've got Ted McMillan, Jaylen Coker, pretty good weapons. Uh, Brooks now is off.
15:51Jonathan Brooks is off the injury report. Uh, Chuba Hubard's healthy.
15:55Like, they're they're pretty much ready to go here on the Panthers side. They're not going to be like a high-flying offense, but they they get themselves a
16:02great matchup. So, I think this game could this this total has moved up over the course of the week. Um, I believe
16:08it's 47 and a half now, but I could still see it going over. I think this game's pretty fun.
16:14>> There's a lot of There's definitely a fun outcome here. We need the Bears to score early in this game. We need early
16:18Bears points to push the Panthers. Uh this is what's interesting though is that like you know Ajy Rivero, we talked about this a few times on the show last
16:27year like he the Panthers for not having like a top down good defense. They were like really good and solid against the
16:34meta offenses. Um they were number one in the NFL against the play action pass.
16:39They're they were a top three team and you know from uh pre- snap to postnap looks they they they play a lot of cover
16:45three but they get into it afterwards post snap. Uh so they changed the window so it's why they were really good
16:50against play action like Brock Pury was awful against them. Uh six yards and three interceptions. Six yards pass three interceptions. Sam Darnold was
16:58terrible against them. Jordan Love was terrible against them. Uh they got three turnovers over Matthew Stafford. And like that's what Ben Johnson did year
17:05one with uh Caleb Williams was take him from 28% under center to 48% and then double his play action rate. So there's
17:14like a wildcard element in here too. Uh they did add Jaylen Phillips as a pass rusher um as well and they added Devin
17:21Lloyd in the middle. So like they they are aware of some of their shortcomings.
17:25But I'm I'm with you that just like the the angle for like the upside here to kind of push this is through Lovelin.
17:32think to start the year he will be kind of the catalyst and we're we're going to get you know obviously L Burton involved
17:37and stuff but I do think the offense early on is going to go Glo's way because he's just been the guy that's
17:42worked with Caleb the entire offseason um and I think they're going to have stuff for him and the matchup lines up
17:47for him too. So, typically against cover three tight ends get a target bump anyways leaguewide. And Carolina saw this like firsthand because they're not
17:56it's not a one-year thing, it's a three-year thing with them. Like they're second NFL in cover three rate last year, third in 2024. This is what they
18:03do. And tight ends get that target bump.
18:05So last year, and last year we saw Lovelin against cover three, two and a half yards per out run, just under 30%
18:11target per uh route rate. like definitely sets up I think for him to kind of be like the focal point early
18:18on. Um and we've got Rome coming back from this you know calf injury. He's he's kind of nicked up. So I'm looking
18:25at Lovelin to have like a pretty healthy target share here. It just depends, you know, if Devin Lloyd actually makes a
18:30difference in terms of them defending tight ends. But Lovelin moves around so much. I don't think it's really going to.
18:37>> Yeah, that's an interesting note about them being good against play action but not against tight ends. So I, you know,
18:44you made me feel worse and then feel better about the cover.
18:48>> I mean, we we need to cuz like we know like in in Dave Canales's brothers, I he's not calling plays like Bradick is
18:53this year, but like they'll if they want to like be boring and like nurse Bryce Young, they'll they'll acquies that.
19:01That's why I want like I would love like cuz the Bears were the worst team in the NFL opening drives last year. Like we
19:07need the Bears to to to come out opening drive and score a touchdown. Score score a touchdown. push this thing. Uh cuz
19:13then we can have fun. I had this little note too. B B B B B B B B B B B B B B B
19:16B B B B B Bryce Young shockingly like in he's only played six career games, sample size of six. Note it. Six games
19:23with a total of 47 points or higher. You have just 20 fantasy points per game in those games. And you kind of highlighted
19:29this defense. They tried to spend on Kobe Bryant. He's on he's on IR to open the year. Kyler Gordon's on IR to open
19:35the year. Dallas Flowers is on IR. Uh they're going to be starting first round pick Dylan Theamman secondary. Um, and the Bears were awful against like
19:44interior receivers last year. They didn't really upgrade that. And we've got Tet in this new role and then Coker is like still gonna be the primary role.
19:51>> Like I like the Panther side. If they get pushed here, I really like the opportunity here for Tet and Coker to
19:58have really strong games.
19:59>> Uh, not that that necessarily gets you to Bryce Young, but I do think it sets up to where if we can just get early
20:04Bears points, it does set this game in a flow state where I think it could be a lot of fun.
20:10Yeah, I I'm not real interested in Young, but I I like his ability or rather the the offense's ability on the
20:17Panthers side to to push back and I'm fine if they run the ball a good amount because I think they'll be I think
20:23Brooks gives them the ability to to add some explosiveness in the running game.
20:27I know they're hoping for that.
20:29Obviously, he's a huge wild card coming off the ACL reinjury and you know, then he sat out the end of the preseason with
20:36soreness and stuff and then people were kind of panicking a little bit. I think he's off the injury report. He's he
20:41looks pretty much good to go. How much he plays, big question. You know, how good he actually is at this point,
20:48another big question. But I think there is upside where the Panthers could run the ball a good amount or at least be
20:54balanced. you know, like a minus 2% kind of poe day for the Panthers. I don't think is bad for this game like hitting
21:02the over. I be, you know, it reminds me of like a few years ago the the Lions and the Seahawks playing each other and
21:10that kind of game where yes, both teams are not super pass heavy, but they're effectively moving the chains and they're just like pushing each other
21:20throughout the entire game. And it's at a certain point it's like ah like they're scoring on us every time and and
21:25it just starts to get like a true shootout even though neither team came in chucking it, you know. Um so that's
21:33where the and and again this is all kind of boils down to the fundamental take on on the Panthers versus the Bears side of
21:40things where it's like I just don't think this Bears defense is going to be very good. So, the Panthers can kind of
21:45probably play their style of offense and not have to just have Bryce Young in the shotgun constantly chucking it, which which we know they don't want to do,
21:52right? They're going to they're going to try to avoid that. So, it's it's like a game flow that could set up where both
21:58teams are playing their type of football, scoring points, and then maybe one team has to stop playing their type of football and move to passing the ball
22:06a bunch, but still scoring points because the the Bears are going to be bad against the pass, too. So, uh, yeah,
22:12I think it'll be a fun game. Where where were you on the Tetto McMillan? I don't think we we talked too much about him. I
22:18guess we talked about him on on, uh, the CBS pod for a little bit, but where'd you end up with him in uh, like like how
22:25bullish are you on Toroa this season?
22:28>> I was relatively neutral, but I'm higher on him in my way higher on him in my week one ranks than my seasonl long
22:34stuff. Um, and it just came down to like the peers where he his ADP peers were just in better offenses. Like I had more
22:42faith in like the ceiling outcome uh for those players if they were to hit, you know, like Jaylen Wadd like those types
22:48of dudes. I'm like, well, if it works out for these guys that like I I just have a lot more faith in the offense.
22:53>> But this proof of concept of cuz when they I knew that they had mentioned this, but and when they drafted Brazil,
23:01I was like, cool. When they drafted Brazil, I was like, Brazil's just gonna, man, this dude's just gonna run like so
23:06much cardio and it's gonna help T so much. And when Brazil got hurt, I was a little worried. I was like, oh, like,
23:11yeah, me too. Like, is it going to fall apart? And then the whole preseason preseason, they stuck with it. I mean, I
23:17don't know how static it'll be. Like, he was 40% slot rate in the preseason. If he's anywhere near that, 30 to 40%, like
23:23that is a huge boon because he had the Marvin Harrison Jr. problem. we talked about a lot last year like he was stuck
23:29outside on the ball with a quarterback that doesn't want to push the ball downfield outside the numbers. He wants to throw interior which is ironic
23:37because like Bryce Young isn't like like he's he's not a big dude but he actually functions over the middle of the field
23:42pretty well and it was in his college profile too for being an undersized player and it's like we got to get some
23:48of these freebies because he just wasn't part of the base offense last year. Like when you look at it, he was third in the
23:53NFL on third down target share, >> but on early downs he was 22nd. Like that that can't that's not how your
23:59offense is supposed to run like like you know and it's like you have to get him more these early downs like these these
24:05easy button free squares, right? Like those smoothing targets and >> even if he gets 30 to 40% like slot rate, that's huge for one his floor and
24:14then his ceiling as well. uh because you that's how you have the games especially when you have a matchup like this where
24:19you maybe could have a 10 catch game like you know obviously that's on the the the higher end range of things but
24:25like those exist now and now you can have a six catch game when it in a game that's not that good right and like you
24:31just helps your floor a lot so I'm very much optimistic uh that he's going to have a really solid floor I think the
24:37ceiling big picture I have a little more questions still just because I do think Bryce Young is drawing live to still get
24:43benched like he was benched in year two by this regime team like if on the fifth year option like if they're like two and
24:49seven or something like who knows what could happen at this point they pull the plug on this but uh for week one he is
24:56significantly higher than where I ended up on him I am as a wide receiver one this week >> nice um yeah I mean I I I kind of I do
25:06agree with you that Bryce Young could get benched um I don't think they're looking to do it I think at this point
25:10now probably getting fired right I mean yeah they're like They're like looking really hard not to do like where >> I mean compared to something like with
25:20the Cardinals, right? Like the Cardinals are >> when it comes time like they'll bench purset. I think I think the they'll
25:26fight against it pretty hard in Carolina because I think it I think it means >> canalis is done.
25:32>> Um >> I mean I would love for them to just say we picked up the fifth year option dude like we're just going to throw you like
25:37we're actually are going to open it up.
25:39I know they're not going to do this, but it would be great. Proof of like if you're gonna give him money, show pro
25:45show it, man. Because it his one like effective angle like coming out of college was spread offense, man. Like spread things out and let him work. And
25:53we just haven't seen that so far in the NFL. But the his best moments have come in those circumstances. Like I said, he
26:00averages 20 points in these highscoring games. like when they're when they actually have to make him play. He's actually been decent enough in reality
26:08in fantasy football.
26:10>> He has. And I think with me from, you know, the the McMillan stuff, I I have him as like a high-end wide receiver,
26:16too. Um but yeah, I'm with you. I mean, I think it's a it's an interesting setup for him and a high upside setup. Um, but yeah, I
26:26mean I think McMillan like there's been, you know, I I think some fair criticism about the offense like this offense is
26:35just not going to be something that elevates a good wide receiver to a really really strong fantasy asset. But what if he is a really really good
26:43receiver?
26:43>> And that's why I still was in largely is that obviously I'm always going to be talent forward. Like if I believe in the
26:49player like he's going to get a bump. I was just more I didn't get a lot of him because just the guys he was going next
26:56to I was like well I really like these offenses like you know >> he kind of stopped going next to some of
27:03those guys at the end of the summer he was more in the late fourth mid to late fourth so >> um and Wadd had moved up a bunch I think
27:11I was here >> I think Wadd was the big jumper for a lot of people uh in the 11th hour >> Waddle I think we all kind of we as an
27:21industry we proved that we can still move the market uh you know collectively and then also like what is wrong with us
27:28that why why didn't we just like quietly take waddle why do we have to why do we have to change the
27:34on >> yeah 100% >> but but we did it we did it man um all right let's let's go to um here I've got
27:43the Buccaneers and the Bengals pulled up in the walkthrough so we'll we'll do them um >> give me your your kind of initial read
27:50on uh on the Bengals first because they've done some like we're playing under center now stuff and how much do you think that that we'll see of that?
27:59Yeah, and the Bengals are uh a tough team to trust always at this time of year. And you know, it's it's really
28:05hard because you like try to in your mind want to isolate like week one from 2021 shouldn't have an impact on my
28:11treating of week one of 2026. But Ben, >> even I was like, yeah, >> but the Bengals so notoriously have been
28:18so bad in these week one games. Like they average 15 offensive points per game in Joe Burrow's week one starts.
28:26He's never had 20 fantasy points in a week one start in six of them. the their their games under Zack Taylor are six
28:34and one to the under like and then you have like this Bucks defense that is their front seven is absolutely looks
28:42awesome on paper and like is this the game you want to get him under center like against the offensive line is I
28:48mean the Bucks were bad against play action so maybe that's what like they're visiting the vision like but like are you is your offensive line holding up to
28:55set up this play action against you know Ruben Bane they brought in Aan Robinson they get Kala Cany back. They also have
29:02Vet. Like I just want Joe Burrow to spread it out and and like I want to put him in shotgun and let Jamar Chase and
29:09T. Higgins go against these guys in the secondary cuz they're the secondary looks bad on paper. Uh they we talked a
29:17number of times last year whenever Jamal Dean was out like they were really bad and they give up a bunch of points to
29:22wide receivers and they didn't bring anyone else in. like they they are elevating Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parish at cornerback outside of Zion
29:31McCollum and both those guys were awful last year and I see I have Jamar Chase and I have T. Higgins. They're a lot
29:37better than your guys. Like why are we pussyfooting around, dude? Are we allowed to say pussyfoot still?
29:42>> I think so.
29:44>> Like let's not get Joe Let's drop Joe Burrow back against this pass rush. Give him time to read the field. Not turn his
29:50back to the defense at all and get the ball out to these guys.
29:57I believe uh I'm not sure the the definition it's to tread or move wearily or stealthily. I'm not sure that where where it originates
30:08from.
30:09>> Yeah, it might be from like a flower or something, you know. I don't I don't know. I don't know where how this
30:14started.
30:17But yeah, I think I think it's I looked on Miriam's, you know, dictionary. It's in there.
30:26>> It's one of those things I said as a way to resol to say that.
30:30>> I think I think Miriam Webster dictionary.com. It's on there. So, uh, so you're good to go. Um, you know what's funny about the Bengals
30:39stuff is like they're gonna do they're going to play the way you're hoping they play eventually. Like that's what they're going to do this year. Like it's
30:48sort of like they have to prove to everyone publicly that like they can't play another way and then they'll go back to playing the way that they
30:57obviously should. Like, hey, you built your entire team around Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, and T. Higgins.
31:05maybe play like that. You know, that's that's what you did. You know, like that gives you some real strengths. You're not gonna be strong everywhere. The
31:13defense isn't gonna be great and you know, the run game is fine, but like >> but like there's no way >> like like do you really think that
31:22internally like right now on Friday like they're really like Zack Taylor is sitting there like dude like we're going to run the ball on the Buccaneers?
31:30>> Yes.
31:32>> It's so That's so wild.
31:38>> I think they are. I think that that's the plan. I think the plan is we're gonna we're going to be under now
31:45obviously I mean they're going to they're going to pass like I think >> my read was not that they're going to go
31:50like run heavy because I think they'll have a lean to the pass but that they I do buy that they're going to try this
31:55like new look more under center approach which >> will probably not be great and it will probably it will limit their
32:06effectiveness I think uh compared to if they just play to their strengths. You know, in fairness to them, it is week
32:14one. Like maybe it is a decent enough time to try out like if you're like it's like okay, they're like a they're like a
32:23fastball pitcher, you know, but it's the season just started. They're trying out a curveball, seeing if they can get the curve ball. I got a new pitch.
32:32>> You got a new pitch. It was not a great curveball.
32:35People are hitting on it. you've given up a few homers.
32:40But, you know, I can I can get it. Like, it's not it's not crazy to me to But it is frustrating when you see, you know,
32:47because we're like, "Hey, it's the Bengals season starting. Let's let's get rolling here." I think they probably aren't going to be as effective as they
32:54as they otherwise could be, you know.
32:56>> Yeah. I mean, he's he under in the grant small preseason, but he was under center 55% of the time in preseason. Uh his
33:03highest season is 35% in 2021. And then like the past few years is like non-existent. Like he's just been in shotgun. And I would just think like
33:11that's what you want him doing. Uh because Burrow is such a good processor, right? Like I want him to see the field.
33:17But yeah, especially like they're like this offensive line I think could maybe hold up and pass pro if like you against
33:24these guys, but like there's no way they're bullying these guys in the run game. Like they're not they're not bullying VT like and running down their
33:32throats in this game.
33:35No, you're you're 100% right. What about on the the Bucks side? Um well, let me ask you real quick on the the Bengals
33:42side because one question was, okay, are they going to be under center more, but the other is are they going to pass to
33:47Chase Brown way more? And you know, if they do, like he could he could really crush. I've been pretty skeptical that
33:54they do that because they already threw him a lot last year and his yards per target was terrible. His yards per
33:59outrun was bad. Like he's not a very good receiver, I don't think. But what are your what are your thoughts on the
34:06potential there? Because, you know, if if they're going to throw to him like he's more in like a CMC kind of role, um
34:14that would I mean, he would probably score kind of like CMC like that, you know, that role is is pretty pretty damn
34:21valuable if you're going to see like six receptions a game or something. You know what I mean? Well, I think this game he
34:25should see a lot of catches again, but that's me just trying to projecting what I think is going to end up happening in
34:30this game is that they're eventually going to not be running the ball because I don't think they're going to be able
34:35to run the ball on this defense. Uh that not only have they added guys like they've like historically been good.
34:41It's not a it's not like a one-year sample. It's not a two-ear sample like under Todd BS like Todd BS is like the
34:46complete old school defensive coach like you are not running on me. Like I'm not going to let you run not going to let
34:51you run the ball on me. I don't think they're going to be able to line up a run on them. So, I do think it's going
34:56to turn into eventually like a quick passing game. And I think that just helps Chase Brown uh stack catches in this game, but I do think big picture uh
35:04he doesn't need to have the target share that he had because he hasn't really done a lot with the the targets he's
35:11gotten. I mean, he's under seven yards per catch each the past two years. Uh not really adding a lot to it. uh the
35:18the the offense those balls going to him, but he's played so many snaps and run so many routes that he's been able
35:23to stack so much production that he's gotten fantasy points that way. He's always tough. It's like the inverse of the situation we just talked about with
35:30Tech Millan, right? Is it not the complete difference? It's like he's in this situation and you value this part of this attachment to this offense, but
35:36the player you're like, "Yeah, like right." But so it's it's like how do you handle those? Like it it's tough to take that
35:46guy in round one. Maybe you take him at like the the in the second, but I do think >> this particular game he's going to have
35:53a lot of catches.
35:56>> That makes sense. That makes sense.
35:58Yeah. And I think I mean he's going to have his game. He had a ton of catches last year, so it's not like he's I don't
36:02think he's not going to catch.
36:03>> I think he's a tough I mean, you're starting him obviously, but I think for like DFS and stuff, like it's a tough
36:07ceiling spot, I think, to think he's going to like absolutely crush here. Uh if he gets a receiving touchdown and catches a bunch of passes, that's the
36:15path.
36:17>> Yep. Um all right, let's move to uh the Saints at Lions. What do >> you want to do, dude? Did you want to do
36:25Bucks, though?
36:25>> Oh. Oh, sorry. Yeah, I skipped the Bucks. Um, yeah. What are your thoughts on the Bucks? I mean, they're going against the
36:31Bengals defense that's not particularly good. Uh, Jaylen McMillan is going to be out for this game. It looks like he's doubtful. Sean Tucker also doubtful. Uh,
36:42my read was kind of like, hey, the um the offensive line healthy, >> not healthy to start last year, healthy to start this year. Uh, really strong.
36:54Um, Brandon Thorne has them as an elite unit.
36:57>> Oh, yeah.
36:57>> Uh, they're going to be, you know, facing a Bengals defense that was was quite bad against the run.
37:04>> And while I think Kenny Gainwell is talented, I think Bucky Irving is probably the better pure runner and is also a good receiver. Uh, where Gainwell
37:13he'll play, but Bucky even with Rashad White was was getting plenty of targets, producing efficiently on those targets.
37:21you can get that kind of early down, you know, kind of like Joe Mixon with the Bengals sort of thing where it's like,
37:26yeah, he's not their third down back, but he still gets targeted on early downs. I think Bucky can be really effective as a 1A kind of back because
37:35he's got chunk playability.
37:38I think if Tucker doesn't play, then I feel pretty good about his goal line role and then he's going to be able to
37:42have, you know, efficient efficient receiving element given he's been really good as a receiver now for two years.
37:48last year, even though he fell off a lot as a runner, he was still really good as a receiver. So, it's not really to take
37:55away anything from Gainwell's ability as a receiver, but Jaylen Warren had 40 receptions last year, splitting with Gainwell. I think Bucky can get some
38:02work in the receiving game like that as well, and then be the clear lead runner.
38:06And this sets up pretty nicely for for Irving, especially like if the Bengals don't just go like kind of turbo passing, like let's let's just like
38:15let's see if you can hang with us. if they are kind of messing around with some new looks, which I do expect that
38:20they will to an extent because they spend a lot of their practice time at training camp >> to experiment with that stuff. So, you
38:25know, to some extent, I think they will, and that would help Irving, I think, like, you know, if this game's going to
38:30be a little bit more traditional and less pass heavy, then Irving could be kind of the focal point on the Bucks
38:36side. And I think he could really hit the ground running. Uh I I ended up coming away from this feeling pretty
38:41good about Irving. Irving might be a terrible pick this year, but if he's not, I think that this this game will
38:49will kind of be will pay immediate dividends for us if you know if we're starting him or playing him in DFS.
38:55>> Yeah, he he was a late summer riser for me cuz I think just the tea leaves over the offseason. I think people were
39:01overvaluing the previous uh you know, coordinator uh and Shawn Tucker getting those touches at the goal line. Uh, I was kind of just like I think we're
39:11we're indexing this too far. Like what if Sean Tucker's like not like a real big part of this regime's plans uh and
39:18and Zack Robinson's plans because remember they originally didn't tender him and then they 11th hour tendered him and then there was kind of like the
39:26entire offseason like he wasn't really playing a lot even with the the first team offense that Josh Williams was playing and it's just like are we like
39:34really elevating Shawn Tucker to a role that he doesn't have? And I was like, well then then Bucky probably is drawing
39:39a lot more live for goal line carries than anyone. You know, you see the stat was he had no carries from inside the
39:44five last year. And I'm like maybe maybe we're doing like that's the last year thing like you know he was banged up and
39:49they they had this Shawn Tucker angle but like what if that's not a thing this year because they immediately paid for
39:54Kenny Gainwell. I was like maybe Sean Tucker's not a real part of this offensive plans and uh I still kind of
40:00feel that way. Uh we'll see if I proved to be wrong but at least he >> No, you're I think you're right. I mean,
40:06I'm surprised because they tendered him, but then they they played uh Josh Williams ahead of him. They made they made Tucker take a pay cut to stay. Uh
40:15we had Silva jumped on with me and Eric Bour and he just like just such a dirt bag move, you know? It's like
40:22>> it could have been, man, cuz they were talking.
40:23>> I mean, I still think it is. I still think it is like >> it is >> they tendered him, you know? Don't tend
40:28let the guy go to free agency. I mean, the tags pissed me off to begin with because it's like, oh, you're free
40:33agent. Actually, you're not. And then actually, even though we hit you with this tag, we're now going to cut you right before the season, which is
40:41>> This is the worst players union there is in sports.
40:44>> It's so bad, dude. It's so bad.
40:47>> Yeah. I mean, >> they give up so much, man.
40:51>> Like every time it's like, "Oh, new contract. What are you going to give up us? Nothing. We're giving up nothing." I
40:57mean, think about we have a dude like George Pickkins that who like proved like his worth going to a team is like
41:02he's like playing on a franchise tag this year. Like can't he get like rewarded for it? I mean eventually I assume he will, but like it just sucks
41:08he can't immediately say like catch it.
41:11>> It really sucks. And like hey if the Cowboys aren't willing to pay him after that that's fine. Someone else will like
41:18you know that's how it should work. It's just yeah I mean what's it free agency basically doesn't even exist. But that's
41:25how this game I think does like, you know, go under and potentially disappoints is you've got the Bengals doing their new thing and it's not
41:32really working early in the game and the Bucks have this healthy offensive line and we'll see the adjustments the because the Bengals definitely were
41:39aware of how bad they were against the run last year. I mean, they obviously trade basically the number 10 pick for
41:44Dexter Lawrence. They signed Jonathan Allen. They signed Boy Maf and they also know that they sucked against tight ends because they signed Brian Cook from the
41:52Chiefs and K they added Kyle Duggar. So like cuz the two things we just like everyone knew like a giant northstar at
41:58like by like week six last year was like well you're just going to play every tight end and running back against the
42:03Bengals like this is like what we're doing.
42:05>> Yeah.
42:06>> They kind of at least said like we know that too this year we'll see how early it comes together. It's like the one
42:12lesson I think you learned too from the game last night is like you can make a lot of moves on defense and it looks
42:16good on paper but like it's still like these guys need time to gel, need time to practice, right? Like >> that's true on offense too. like the
42:23Jaguars didn't really click down, you know, until down the stretch. And, >> you know, I think they probably clicked in ways that they were surprised they
42:29were clicking, right? Like Parker Washington emerges as a huge part of the offense late in the season. And and so, yeah, there's like an element of this
42:37like you can you can make legitimate big improvements on one side of the ball, it it might not materialize right away,
42:44>> right? And the I'm also interested to see uh Zack Robinson's imprint on this offense because when they got when Grizzard got the job last year, the
42:53first thing he talked about was like throwing the ball downfield. And it was like dude did you not just watch Liam
42:58Con like what worked? Like you don't want to do any of that stuff that worked and he's like no we want to go
43:03downfield. And I do think Zack Robinson's offense is going to look a lot more adjacent to the Liam Cohen offense. He was there when you know
43:10Baker made that pit stop through the Rams with with Liam Cohen. And I also think Zack Robinson didn't get a chance
43:16to run his offense in Atlanta because remember year one he got put in the spot where Kurt Cousins was coming off that
43:23Achilles and just couldn't move. So they just had to basically be a 100% gun team uh because Kurt Cousins was just he he
43:31was stationary and then Pennix had never played that. So like Penn just got inserted. So I don't even think we really saw him ever really run his
43:38offense in Atlanta. And I do think it'll be a lot more like uh what we saw from Liam Cohen in uh you know two years ago
43:47with the Bucks. Uh and I think that we'll see more running back throws and and things like that of that nature. So
43:52yeah, I mean Bucky was a guy that I think ended I ended up coming around a little bit around on. Obviously we still
43:56have to see like if he's still getting like the route participation stuff, but I do think he's going to get goal line
44:01work. Uh I think he'll be the first guy to get a crack at it and he'll get early down receiving stuff too. And the fact
44:06that McMillan is out in this game, I think helps Ibuka and Godwin because you and I were big Ted Hurst guys. But
44:15buddy, he's about to be a sacrificial X to DJ Turner in week one. Like he is just going out here. You occupy their
44:21best defender and Chris Godwin and Ibuka are going to go Z slot and like >> if you don't think I'm about to not
44:27about the victory lap, 83% route participation for Ted Hurst in week one.
44:31Even though >> best ball he catch one, man. Just catch one. Yeah, catch one. I I I have this guy in the 20th round in a lot of
44:39leagues, so that's fine.
44:41>> Just catch one, Todd, baby. Like, that's all you need.
44:43>> Sacrifice his ass.
44:45>> Give him a 100%, man. But I do think it sets up well for, you know, Godwin and Ibuka.
44:52The fact that you remove a guy that we know at least had like a little bit of target earning equity. And I mean, there
44:59like DJ Turner was so awesome last year.
45:02uh you get these guys free away from him.
45:05>> Yeah. Yeah. Um no, I I Well, between Godwin and Ibuka, what what is your your read there? Because it doesn't seem like
45:13this tow injury is like ultimately that big a deal. Little bit of a concern in, you know, the final weeks of drafts and
45:18you saw Ibuka fall into like the late fourth. Um, >> I didn't take a ton of him there and not because I was that worried about the
45:26toe, but because I was like, well, T-Mac's still here, >> so can I just take him? Um, you know, so I I don't
45:34>> He's a dude I got early and then he was the first spike from that group, remember?
45:39>> Yeah, he spiked.
45:40>> He was the first guy to spike. Uh, and then cuz then when the injury happened, I never like chased back when he fell
45:46because I had already had early and then I was like, well, why am I going to take the hurt guy like you know?
45:51>> Yeah. Yeah. But Godwin moved up and I think rightfully so. It seems like they've been pleased with the way Godwin
45:57looks and I wonder if I I expect I could be the number one obviously, but I wonder if the gap's not that big between
46:04those two guys.
46:05>> It it definitely there's a chance it couldn't be. I mean, Godwin was he was coming back from like a horrific injury
46:10uh last year. Uh like multiple points of like a broken leg, torn ligaments. Like the fact that he >> wasn't really useful at all last year
46:19and it was a complete lost season, I don't think is shocking. Um you know, given his age, too. So, he's coming back
46:24healthy. Everything seems to be on track and he can move around a little bit. I don't think we're going to see him like
46:29when I say like this team, this offense is going to look a lot like the Liam Cohen offense. I don't think that means
46:33Godwin's going to go back to having like a touching all those screens or anything either, but uh I do think we're going to
46:40get a lot of like that that shorter uh like intermediate like play action passing and stuff like that. So, >> I like these two guys just fact that
46:47they're not going against DJ Turner and probably won't have to. Um, but I do think that this game ultimately from like a point total stance like stands
46:54out like for the ones we're going to talk about as being the one that could be like a little bit of like a fantasy
46:58trap.
46:59>> Uh, for the reasons we talked about to this point.
47:02>> Yeah, I I agree with you there. Um, all right. Saints at Lions. Uh, this game now did you who who should be the
47:12because I think I think the late game is where was where where I think the wagon is. Okay. What about you?
47:19>> Do it. No, I'm fine leaving that because I saw someone their bold prediction for week one was I think it might have been
47:25Harmon said the Chargers are going to score 50 in week one.
47:30>> Okay, I'm excit I'm excited to talk about that one. Um, >> but this game as though this game has the two Mad Man head coaches. So like
47:37this I think this is the one game where you look at like in general like has like a clearer path to like be fun all
47:44around.
47:46>> Well, all right. Let me let me ask you that on the on the Saints side. Are we 100% sure that Kell Moore is a madman?
47:52Because they passed a lot last year.
47:55They played fast, >> but they like straight up didn't have a running back.
47:59>> No. No.
48:00>> You know, they So, >> or what if >> right now? I mean, the offensive line's solid now. Like, what if they
48:06>> They all hurt.
48:08>> Right. Right. If they if they >> feel better about their ability to run the ball. I mean, obviously with the
48:14Eagles, Moore was was very runheavy.
48:16this isn't that team and he was more willing to pass uh you know with the Cowboys and stuff but I'm not 100% sure
48:24that his plan with Tyler Shuck in year two is to just like chuck it a bunch and and really lean on Shuck. I mean, part
48:32of it comes from my skepticism of Shuck, who last season in in EPA per game, very similar to toabiloa to Bryce Young. He
48:40was below Kurt Cousins, very similar to Aaron Rodgers there. Better success rate than Rogers, but I mean, wasn't much above Rattler in in EPA. So, it's look,
48:51if we're saying, hey, this guy was a rookie, he can take a step forward. They had a Jordan Tyson. Uh, you once he's
48:57back, Shuck could like really be cooking. Cool. I'm good. Like I I I see the upside case, but like I don't know.
49:05It's like a baseline, you know, most likely scenario that this offense is going to be really built around Shuck just slinging it. I think it would,
49:14especially with the way the NFL is going right now, like wouldn't it make more sense actually if they pivoted to more
49:18of a balanced approach and use Shuck?
49:21What they know they have in Chuck were like, he can run for first down. He's actually like way more mobile than I
49:26think pretty much everyone thought coming in. It's been that part of it has been really fun. He can he can hit big
49:30plays downfield. They've got a guy in a lav who can really, you know, deliver chunk plays, 10 plus yards downfield, all that stuff. They got a passcatching
49:38tight end. Tyson will, I think, elevate the offense once back. But, you know, week one without Tyson, I mean, I not
49:46100% sure that their plan is to get into a full-blown shootout here. I mean a big picture I think I 100% agree with you
49:52with if you just look at the moves that they made you know getting David Edwards and you spending for Travis uh HN uh
49:58which still feels weird to say uh but the thing is >> I'm wait I'm waiting for prime time and for them to do the announcement when he
50:07when he introduced himself that's yeah right now I'm saying like >> etchen and I I know I'm doing it wrong.
50:12Yeah, it just feels weird, right? It's not natural because you look at it on paper and it's not spelled like Hchan.
50:19We have an HAN like like it's it's hard to like to get over that hump. But I agree with you big picture what their
50:26plan is, but they're sevenpoint road dogs in Detroit and I just feel like they're going to get pushed into this direction here.
50:34I actually do agree with you. I think the top down plan is to be more balanced and run the football and to do those
50:39things. I just think that when you look at the way this game >> this game sets up like because the one
50:46thing we can count on is that like tried is the Lions at home, right? Like Lions at home.
50:51>> Uh they've just been in these spots uh league best cover rate at home uh since Dan Campbell's taken over. Uh we've seen
50:59like you everyone knows the golf splits at home. You've seen those at Nauseium.
51:03And the other thing too like golf is awesome when like he faces teams that like have like no pass rush and they
51:10pass rush.
51:10>> They don't have a pass rush, man. Like they didn't add anyone uh you know to to actually both these teams lost like
51:17pieces on defense to potentially even push this thing even further. Saints lost a little bit less. Alante Taylor and Deario Davis, they've got some
51:25backend pieces. Lions lost a lot of backend stuff. Obviously, their safeties are hurt and they're not going to start the year, but they had to release Terry
51:33Arnold. Uh they lost Meek uh Robertson.
51:36They lost Alex Analone. They lost DJ Reer. Roy Lopez and the dudes that they brought in are just that like the
51:44castoffs guys that have been a lot of places. Devin White, Chuck Clark, uh like these are guys that have >> they're having to pay their guys now.
51:51They're thinning out. They're just thinning out.
51:53>> That's and that it's great for fantasy.
51:55Like like oh like you you you drafted well and you had success.
51:59>> Why is it test laws? You're a wide receiver three. Great.
52:02What's funny about Brad Holmes is like he got cart blanch early on but like he's drafted like really horribly and like he's made some egregious trades
52:10like the trade up for Sion Vaky >> what are we doing man but >> the guys that he hit on really good
52:18players >> yeah I mean he's kind of I mean like Gibb the Gibbs thing you're like well I mean I think he's going to be good but
52:27I'm surprised you traded or not trade up but you took uh did they trade up they took a running back early in the first.
52:32I can't remember if they trade up now.
52:34>> No, but you know, it's like >> did they trade up for that one? I can't remember.
52:37>> Maybe they didn't.
52:38>> They traded for one of those because they took two first rounders. It was, you know, Gibbs and Jack Campbell were
52:42the two guys they took.
52:43>> Right. Right.
52:45>> Yeah. And then they did they did trade up for Tesla, which was nuts.
52:48>> And Vaky, like who never even played real football like really?
52:53>> I mean, he he's kind of he might matter now, >> but I mean it's him or Sailors. like I uh
53:01you know like I was looking at the Lions side of this and you're like okay Lions are at home. Saints big run funnel last
53:09year opponents had a 56% pass rate against the Saints with a minus 5% proe um >> they trailed for the most snaps of any
53:18team in the past decade >> the Saints did >> yeah last year.
53:22>> Wow. Wow. That's a that's an interesting nugget. Um >> they led at some point in just eight games last year.
53:32That's wild, man. Um, that's really wild. The, uh, so anyway, you look at the Saints and the way the Lions could
53:42play this. Like, if they had David Montgomery here, you'd be like, I mean, they might run the ball 40 times, you
53:48know, but they're not like, how are they going to run the ball 40 times? They they only so much Gibbs can handle,
53:54right? He's only had one 25 plus career game in his entire career. That was week eight of 2023. He's hit 20 plus rushes
54:02just six times in 49 career games. I recognize that he's been with David Montgomery, but that's not really the type of running back he is, right? You
54:10don't just like load him up with a ton of carries and they don't have a backup functionally. So, I you you and then you
54:18look at this matchup as well, like what else could you do? Well, they don't have a pass rush. Jared Goff's probably gonna
54:24cook them. And Drew Pig was like really down to pass the ball with Jacobe Brassette last year. So maybe they're just like, "Let's just win this game.
54:34Let's score a lot of points." Like Dan Dan Campbell's down. So I I I agree with you. If if the point on the Saints side
54:42of this is, hey, it doesn't matter what they're trying to do. They're about to be 10 points down for a whole football
54:49game if they're lucky.
54:52I think I think you're right. I think it's a good read on it. And uh and the Lions I just don't I see I mean the
54:58other thing is if the Lions just decided to give Gibbs 30 carries, he'd be awesome. Like it would work.
55:04>> Well, remember too the Lions uh they play in Buffalo on Thursday next week.
55:09Like why would you give Jir Gibbs 30 touch or 30?
55:14>> At least it would be an egregious management of him, >> right? Actually really thought about that angle. You're the first one I heard
55:19that to talk about that angle about being even more bullish of the Lions throwing and scoring points.
55:26>> Yeah. Like I have a but but the funny thing is like if they play it strangely, >> they'll still put up a ton of points
55:34because they give Jir Gibbs 30 carries in this game. He's going to nuke. So it's like hard to >> it's hard to see how they don't put up
55:42points.
55:43>> Um and yeah, so I think the Saints are going to be trailing for a bunch.
55:47There's not a ton like you know I think Amanra locked in. Jameson Williams looks like a great play. Laorta looks healthy
55:53and back. So to your point on you know this offense really getting more concentrated. The defense is getting thinned out. Um Lions game should be a
56:03lot of fun this year.
56:04>> Yeah. I mean that week two game I mean opening that new stadium in Buffalo looks like a real awesome time man. I
56:11can't wait for that.
56:12>> Yeah man. Yeah, >> it's a bummer it's a Thursday game, but also like, you know, I'd still gonna be excited.
56:18>> Agreed. Um >> especially with uh Josh coming off a face in the Texans.
56:24H >> how confident are you are are you in in Olive in particular and and and Jawan Johnson I'll throw out as well. Um
56:33>> and ETN as a as a pass catcher because >> if they're trailing right in the the pass volume's up, you know, is this is
56:40this them kind of keeping pace or is this them, you know, falling further behind because they're they're they're forcing it through the air and it's not
56:49it's not clicking >> right. And I think that's the the worry of the game maybe not going crazy is like we are just like assuming like
56:55Shuck can answer this, >> right? Like >> Right. Which I'm not 100% sure he can.
57:00>> Yeah. And I don't think we should be.
57:02Uh, but I do think that like matchup wise just from like the secondary being so bad that a lav is set up just like re
57:09in a in a really great spot and then like remember after the trader Rashid Shahed because the do that the way the
57:15dominoes fell is that elevated Vle into the offense who Kell Moore uh said the one regret he has from last year was not
57:23getting him involved in the offense before the Shahed trade. But it opened up Chris Ave to like this just higher depth of target because he was he became
57:32the lid lifter in the offense. I mean his ADOT everything went up and now we don't have Tyson. So I think a lav is
57:38going to occupy those same types of targets and offer you high leverage targets. So paired with this game script and the the Detroit secondary banged up
57:46like I'm pretty confident in a still being able to do uh his job and then Vle I think gets a bump. They only kept four
57:53receivers on the roster right now and I assume that they will add someone or elevate someone from the practice squad.
57:59Uh but it's basically it it's Vle and Jawan Johnson as the only pass catchers we could trust because Barry and Brown
58:07and Bryce Lance are they haven't played like how can we trust either of those guys. Uh, so I think it's gonna be very
58:14concentrated in a game script where they have to throw at least from a volume stance. Like you're you're not expecting like the moon out of guys like Vele, but
58:21I do think, you know, he's in he's 3500 on DraftKings. Like there's definitely a world where he gets eight to 10 targets
58:29at 3500. Uh, so you just hope he gets into the box. Um, you season long stuff like you're probably not getting week
58:35one to define >> but Johnson I think is startable. Yeah, I mean I have a I have a dynasty league where I had Brock Bowers as a tight end
58:45obviously not being able to play him.
58:47>> Then I was like, "All right, Kyle Pittz, you know, and then the Cooper Rush stuff like I don't know about that." So I'm
58:53I'm playing Jawan Johnson.
58:54>> Yeah, I would play Jan Johnson.
58:55>> I feel good about it.
58:56>> Yeah, I think so.
58:57>> I mean, I feel better if I could play Bowers.
58:59>> Well, they said that the Detroit loses Analone, uh, who was one of their better coverage linebackers. And also, Johnson isn't a typical tight end. uh he only
59:07played 40% of his snaps in line and against slot tight ends, Detroit was 23rd in yards or target and 20th in
59:14touchdown rate allowed. So like I do think things set up for Johnson really well uh in this game. Like like I said
59:21from a like there is the the Shuck wild card of like there is a a lower flare than I think people assume because I
59:27think Shuck's going to be a pretty popular like cheapy play too. But the from a target stance, those three guys I
59:34think are gonna get so many targets that they can get over still.
59:39>> It's the fourth quarter is really going to matter for the Shuck play.
59:45>> You need a productive fourth.
59:46>> Absolutely.
59:48>> I think I might be like, I'm so smart.
59:51>> And then I'm at least keeping open mind that maybe he's okay in this matchup. Uh you know, like next week at Baltimore,
59:58I'll feel a little lot more hesitant.
60:01Yeah, agreed. Um, yeah, >> I would rather play golf though if I had a choice. Like I'm definitely choosing golf over the shuck angle.
60:08>> Oh, golf. I think golf could go nuts in part because you know Gibbs some of his work should be receiving game.
60:16>> Your angle like this is a a I view them as like an intelligent operation.
60:22>> Yeah. Uh, and the fact they play on Thursday and you bringing up them not having backups and Gibbs, like they
60:27don't want they don't want to give this dude 25 carries week one, right?
60:30>> I don't I really don't think so.
60:32>> I And that's the first time first I heard of that angle. Uh, >> all right.
60:36>> I love that. I dig it.
60:39>> Um, all right. Yeah, let's talk the Ravens. Their defense, you know, they they've now got uh new head coach Jesse
60:46Mter running things and, you know, that's exciting. But then Declan Doyle on the offensive side, we'll get to I'm even more excited about. But this is a
60:55defense that now has Trey Hendrickson.
60:58Nami Matabke is going to be back, you know, come back from a neck injury. Oh, he's out. Okay.
61:03>> Yeah, >> he's they ruled him out.
61:05>> Um, but you know, this this defense under Mter should be better. Kind of like Harbaugh had kind of run out of ideas
61:12slashg guys that were giving him good ideas. Um, and so, you know, the defense should be improved from last year. And
61:20then, you know, on the Colt side, obviously, Daniel Jones coming off this Achilles tear. Uh, Alec Pierce will play, but is dealing with this ankle
61:28injury that, you know, cost him basically off camp. So, it's like hard to see the Colts passing game hitting hitting the ground running. The run game
61:37could for sure. Um, you know, and I trust Jonathan Taylor to be efficient even in in tough spots, but how worried
61:43are you about the Colts in this first game back for Jones?
61:46>> Yeah, it's it's a little worrisome. So, first of all, the Colts like absolutely smashed Jesse Miner last year. Like, they went into LA and put 30 point 38
61:54points up on him. So, Shane Stiken h was dialing up a lot of really good stuff in that game. But, I do think the health of
62:00Alec Pierce is like pretty paramount to this offense. uh because he is the only guy to make the defense like respect
62:09like any type of downfield like passing, right? Uh and that's that's the wild card. He needs to be healthy. Uh with
62:16Alec Pierce off the field the past two years and this is 155 rush sample. It's not like a couple games worth like we
62:23got 155 rushes. Jonathan Taylor has faced eight or more defenders in the box on 43% of his runs. But with Ale Pierce
62:32on the field, it goes down to 28%.
62:35>> Yeah, you have to >> This is This is why Yeah.
62:37>> You need >> There's so much about the run in the past.
62:40>> Yeah.
62:41>> Yeah.
62:41>> And and remember the Colts and it wasn't just a a Philip Rivers the injury to Daniel Jones because we had started to
62:47see this the last month of Daniel Jones.
62:48I know he also was playing through an injury, but so much of the Colts takeoff last year was predicated on that RPO
62:55play action game. And like they need that they need that to be uh systemic of this offense and a guy like Alec Pierce
63:04like the the fact that he draws a defender over the top. U and maybe just the fact that he's in a uniform out
63:10there is enough to do it. I don't know.
63:12U you know we actually don't we have no idea like really how healthy he is or like what to expect. But he's dressing
63:19he's dressing so that's a positive right? Like >> yeah I don't know. I mean, it's his ability to actually draw defensive
63:27coverage like you're saying and so much of their success last year was like showing the run and then passing, >> but then if you if you're showing the
63:35run and you have Jonathan Taylor and you don't take that seriously, that can go pretty bad for you as well in an
63:41explosive way. So, they're they were they were, you know, a really fun offense because I mean they were I would go so far as to say a wagon. They were
63:51they were >> they were like setting records.
63:54>> Yeah. I mean they were they they were explosive in both. They're putting you in a run past conflict and then if you
64:01guessed wrong it was a potential explosive, you know, regardless of what they had selected. So that that's what made them so fun. And then they get rid
64:10of Pitman and they clearly prioritize Pierce, which from a fantasy perspective was was odd, right? Like Pierce wasn't this big target earner really. And I
64:21think I still am very skeptical of a lot of the stuff about him becoming like a true number one wide receiver.
64:26>> I think they realized just for their particular offense, he was >> particular offense.
64:30>> Yeah. I I think that's mostly what drove it where it's like we need this guy to make everything else work and we can
64:37find a possession receiver. I mean, they literally just brought in Keenan Allen like you know and Josh DS can do some of
64:42the Pitman stuff. Like there are other guys who can do the Pitman stuff, but but Pierce is sort of the harder player
64:49to find. Um at least performing at the level that he was performing, you know, in that downfield role.
64:55>> 100%.
64:56>> Um yeah.
64:59Well, uh you know, as you look at the the rest of the offense, I mean, if if Pierce isn't 100%, which I think is
65:08probably going to be the case, although you know, he should play.
65:11>> We lean that way. Yeah. Does that then have, you know, effects where like Josh DS isn't stretching the defense downfield? He's actually also like
65:21Taylor benefiting from Pierce doing that. Keenan Allen the same way. So Pierce is really like integral to the just to create space, right? Like
65:31>> yes.
65:33um if they if they don't have that, how how you know is this is this kind of a bleak outlook for the Colts or even
65:42with like 80% pierce, do you think they'll be all right here?
65:46>> I mean, I wish I had like a a great answer. Um because this game, you know, you would love to say like it has chance
65:52to be it's indoors. You've got obviously if the Colts can channel what they had at the offensive last year and then
65:57you've got a healthy Lamar uh with a good mindset to open the year like this game could could be fun like like
66:04absolutely like we could look like we could flip over the cards on Monday and be like these two teams combined for 60
66:09points like yeah we like there was that was in the I think it's just a if this game has a wider scope of variance
66:15because of just the all the moving parts in it but I do think it's a game you do I think want to stack in DFS just in
66:22case >> like just in Um because I do think it has that potential but it has a very wide range of outcomes because the core piece of
66:30this game like you're largely playing anyways and you manage stuff. Uh you know you're always playing Jonathan Taylor, you're playing Derrick Henry,
66:36you're playing Lamar, uh you're playing Tyler Warren, like your decision points are basically like Josh DS like like what are you doing with Josh D.
66:44>> And I didn't mention Warren when talking about the cult stuff but I think he also benefits from you know that space
66:49opening up from the other guys. He's more of a yak guy, more in kind of the Tucker Craft mold of of tight end as
66:56opposed to like a downfield field stretcher. But, you know, I think he's pretty good and I think he'll be the the
67:03focal point of the passing off. Like, as far as, you know, I'm setting lines to like lead the team in targets, I I would
67:09pick Warren as the favorite.
67:10>> Yes. Me, too. Um, but you know, at the same time, if Pierce, if they're just saying like, look, we know what you're trying to do. Daniel
67:21Jones isn't isn't really, you know, going to threaten as a runner today. And so, you're just going to try to get us
67:28with a bunch of RPO stuff that's not particularly deep or run. And Pierce can't really threaten 20 plus yards downfield like he usually can. It could
67:38just get kind of like bottled up.
67:40>> Yep. in a way that's that's frustrating.
67:42And then on the Ravens side, >> I mean, this Colts defense, they should be really good in coverage now, right? I
67:47mean, you have you have Ward and Gardner back. I mean, they dealt with obviously the Gardner injury >> and then and then Ward had concussions.
67:55Yeah. So, I mean, this should be an awesome quarterback duo in a way that doesn't show up in the numbers last
68:01year.
68:02>> Deorest Buckner missed seven games last year, too, and he's going against a guy starting his first game at center.
68:08>> Yeah. So I I think you know you talk about the wide range of outcomes. This could be a defensive battle.
68:14>> It could be. Yeah 100%. And the big Lou is familiar with Lamar too like >> Right. Guess that's a good point.
68:22>> So I mean yeah I feel like this game has a it either I think it either pops or it kind of lets down. It's like there's no
68:28I feel like there's no middle middle crowd.
68:33>> Yeah. I don't know like what I'm doing about it though, right? Like I'm not benching Henry or no >> Taylor obviously or Flowers.
68:41>> I probably would like not start Mark Andrews if I had another option. Well, maybe saying that. But but Andrews doesn't have to face the quarterbacks.
68:47So he's not like as >> you know it's I I guess I won't. It's it's a wait andsee spot for Jacobe Lane.
68:54Is that that the action we'll take?
68:56>> Yeah. I mean, the one I'm very curious because all the signal for the Ravens this year has been like this team's
69:02going to run like a different offense cuz they and they threw a lot more with Todd Mona and they added under center
69:07stuff, but they were still the Ravens at their heart. like they still had Patrick Ricard, they still played two tight ends
69:13and they let Isa they lose Ricard and Isaiah likely to the Giants of course but they don't even have a fullback on
69:20the roster and they didn't they replace Likely with two day three tight ends like and Jacobe Lane they used the good
69:27equity on he's gotten a lot of buzz this summer uh Baitman's been openly talking about how he's moving around for the
69:32first time in his career and like there's a lot of signal that they want to be like an 11 personnel based team
69:38and they didn't do that at all in the preseason. So, like I like scratched in my head that they want did they just not
69:43want to reveal any of that? Lamar also didn't play. So, maybe it was just like a we're not revealing anything thing.
69:48>> Um cuz all the signal to me is like this is an 11 personnel offense now which we haven't seen like really Lamar ever
69:54operate in.
69:56>> Yeah, man. That could be really fun. I I agree with you by the way about the ceiling. I I think I see more the floor
70:02as far as like >> Yeah. for for health reasons on the Colts offensive side and actually for health reasons on the Colts defensive
70:10side, they you know they should be quite a bit healthier. Um but I also have a lot of optimism for Doyle coming in here
70:19and you know he he was with Shawn Payeyton in New Orleans and then uh tight end's coach under him in uh with
70:28the Broncos and then he was the Bears offensive coordinator last year. He's 30 years old and I think one of these guys
70:35who could be a head coach in a year or two, >> you know, as one of these like young offensive minds. So,
70:42>> from a seasonl long perspective, I've been excited about the Ravens wanting to to invest in them. I this isn't like an
70:49ideal week one matchup, but um if they're if they make as big a leap as they definitely can with Lamar Jackson
70:56as their quarterback and and potentially the most creative offense he's ever run, >> then it's like not we're not going to be
71:02like caring that much about I mean you want to talk about potential wagons, you know? Yeah.
71:06>> By week three be like >> doesn't really matter who the Ravens are playing. It matters that they're the Ravens, you know.
71:13>> Yeah. I mean, that's why I was like, you know, using one of those late picks on Baitman, you know, it probably was like
71:18more hoping because I liked it as a prospect, but the fact that, you know, and then he had the the off-field stuff
71:24that kind of showed up too, but it doesn't seem like that's going to be something that we're going to have to
71:29deal with yet.
71:30>> Uh, but the fact that he's going to move around because he's another one of those guys that just been stuck on the line of
71:34scrimmage his whole career because of the offense he's been in. Uh, because he's not as dynamic as a Flowers to overcome those things. No, no. But that
71:41if they're he's a guy though that if if Lane if they go to 11 personnel Lane is you know playing X uh in your free like
71:49yes then I think there's a lot more opportunity because I still think he has talent cuz you you see like all the
71:55separation metrics like he still shows up as a separator >> um every single year.
72:00>> Yes.
72:01>> Like the the open score stuff for him is just nuts. Um, but >> I'm definitely watching it because I will he's a guy that I want to watch in
72:10these leagues because he wasn't drafted in a lot of leagues and probably not a lot of home leagues, but he's a guy I
72:15think I would snap scoop up if like >> he has like a real high route participation and a high slot rate. I
72:20think I would be and doesn't necessarily even have a good gameweek one. I would add him to the end of rosters for sure.
72:27>> I could see that for sure. Um, all right, let's we got to pick up the pace a little bit and we I have just the game
72:32for us here. Jets at Titans. Uh this this one I don't think we need to spend a ton of time on. Although um I will
72:42say, you know, I'm I'm somewhat optimistic about the Jets in this spot >> given their offensive line looking like it could actually be pretty damn good
72:51and at kind of minimum it should be, you know, middle of the road. Uh Bree Hall I think has a lot more upside to catch
72:57passes than he did last year in part because I think Frank Reich knows what he's doing more so than Tanner Angstrom
73:04did. But I also think that uh this offense, you know, the the design of it is one thing, but then just like the
73:13play calling uh run pass splits. I don't I don't expect them to like cower, you know, this year like where they're just
73:21like we can't we can't pass the ball because we might that might look bad and embarrassing. So, we're just going to
73:27run the ball and go home with our loss.
73:29I think they might actually try to win games this year, which is obviously welcome if you're if you're betting on the running back. So, I think I think
73:36Hall has, you know, the potential to catch a lot more balls, but then also run more effectively behind a pretty good offensive line. Garrett Wilson's a
73:46star. Um, I think Eddie Mitchell will probably help them in sort of an Alec Piery type of way, you know, first and
73:53foremost, but, you know, he can draw some targets as well. and uh you know Omar Cooper I think will will be helpful
73:59out of the slot. Um this offense like kind of has all the things it like if it wasn't for Gino Smith being 35 and awful
74:08last year. I think I would like fully be buying in on the Jets. Also, you know, Frank Reich's not a great coach. He's
74:14just not truly truly crap. But um and also like their head coach is like probably going to get fired before the
74:22season ends. But other other than like some glaring glaring red flags, you can kind of talk yourself into the Jets this
74:29year and especially in a match up against the Titans.
74:32>> Yeah, I've been waiting for the like well I was I was playing them through best, but I've been waiting to play them
74:37for DFS. So I shied a little bit away from manage because uh they have the late buy and I was just concerned like
74:44if there's not enough wins, they have to play Kubnik the last month and it's like that's fantasy crunch time. like I still
74:51think he's drawing probably really live.
74:53So it's like how do we play this? And I'm like well I just kind of coped and said well the way I'm gonna play the
74:58Jets is like through DFS like to open year and then baseball cuz who cares?
75:02But >> um I actually think I actually think Gino Smith is going to be relatively solid in this spot. So Gino Smith over
75:09the course of his career is like one of the most pressure sensitive QBs and yeah he was trash last year but remember the
75:16Raiders offensive line situation last year >> Pet son first of all was coaching the offensive line uh Colt Miller went down
75:25Jackson Powers Johnson went down this is a way better offensive line than what he had uh he's got better a better weaponry
75:32on paper um and so I actually think he's going to he's been able to facilitate at least I think it's going be functional
75:39at least a lot more than we saw at the Raiders. Um I think this particular matchup is tough for them to run the
75:44football still. We talked about the Titans a lot last year and they actually added to their defensive line getting John Franklin Meyers this year. Uh they
75:51didn't allow one RB1 scoring week the final 10 games last year. They allowed the lowest yards before contact to running backs and they allowed the
75:59lowest yards per carry. And remember this is a team that was terrible and faced a lot of runs because yeah they
76:04weren't winning games. But I look at Garrett Wilson in this spot. They were horrendous against wide receivers and their big move was to spend overpay for
76:13cornerbacks that weren't particularly good. They got Cordell Flot and Alante Taylor is who they spent big money on.
76:19But Elante Taylor had his breakout last year playing in the slot for the Saints.
76:22The year before that he played outside quarterback and gave up the most receiving yards in the NFL. And they are asking him to play outside quarterback
76:30here because of the money they gave him.
76:32So, I look at Garrett Wilson in week one and I'm like, man, he looks like a really in a really favorable spot. Uh,
76:39if we can get just like enough dropbacks here, but I think we're going to get drop backs because of the Titans run
76:43defense. If it's as good as what it was, I think they're going to throw and Garrett Wilson could smash in smash in
76:49the spot. He was Garrett Wilson led the team in receiving yards and played 19 snaps after week six.
76:56Like, >> yeah, man. I mean I mean it's like Brady Cook was playing by the end of the year.
77:01So, what what was what was everyone else supposed to do? But, yeah, it's uh it's interesting because I think like I do
77:12think the the offensive coordinator upgrade combined with the quarterback change where you have you go from Justin Fields um and Trod Taylor.
77:23>> Yeah.
77:24>> To a guy who is just a straightup pocket passer at this point. like the the pass attempt per drop back rate should be a
77:31lot higher and then the drop back rate should also be a lot higher and it's just it's just going to be a more
77:38traditional offense which is really nice if you're trying to bet on pass catchers um and and like as good as Wilson is I
77:48think Eddie Mitchell can play >> Omar Cooper was a first round pick I don't think he's going to be like he's
77:52literally nothing all year so there is some target competition and Kenyan Sadique will probably have a role by the end of the season. So, he kind of need
78:00Garrett Wilson kind of needs uh there to be like sufficient dropback volume.
78:06Things could get shakier as the season goes on. Um obviously like if if they lose a bunch of games and Glenn gets
78:13fired, they they could bench Smith ultimately. We could be looking at Clubnick. Like this could get ugly, but it's a you know, it's a sunny
78:22September afternoon. You know, that's what those those are winter problems, baby.
78:25>> Yeah. We'll deal with that then.
78:28>> Yeah, deal with that later.
78:30>> We'll deal with that.
78:31>> And that's what I kind That's how I kind of treated the Jets. I was like I was like, yeah, like I see a lot of problems
78:35down the line, so I'm going to be a little skeptical, but right now right now it's like, let's get another round.
78:47>> This night's probably going to end in disaster, but it's it's nice out. So yeah, I'm with you. I'm with you on the Jets. I'm kind
78:57of intrigued by them here. Titans less intrigued by. I mean, obviously the Jets defense is not going to be good, but I'm
79:03just not sure what the Titans are going to be able to do even in in matchups like this. You know, I I don't trust the
79:10run game. I don't trust Cam Ward. And and while I do believe in Carnell Tate, I'm not sure that week one is the is the
79:17the week that he's going to really help me out. So, it's more of like an information gathering week for me on the
79:23Titans. There's not like really a single Titan who jumps out as someone I'm excited about this week.
79:28>> Down the line, I could see Tate emerging as like a, you know, a star. Like I think he has he was the fourth world
79:34picked. You know, he could be a true star, someone who's able to emerge um as a playmaker even in a very un ideal
79:41situation. Or maybe Ward takes a step forward over the course of the year and, you know, that that helps him out as
79:46well. But week one, even against the Jets, I I just don't really see much fantasy goodness here at all.
79:51>> Yeah. I mean, Cam Ward, we were in very much in a zone where like he's got to show us something. Like, it's just
79:58really hard to have a lot of blind faith, right? Uh I mean, this this preseason, it was, and I don't know,
80:02it's just preseason, I don't know, crazy, but he was awful. Like, awful.
80:06>> Yeah.
80:07>> Um and and the Jets are basically redoing their entire defense. So, like maybe there's an opportunity here because they they have seven new
80:14starters basically on defense.
80:16>> Uh and you can kind of catch them in that gel period. But like this is a spot where especially because of what I just
80:21said.
80:22>> He can catch him in the jail period in January. I'm pretty sure.
80:25>> But like dude like he show this but I I expect something from Cam Ward here and like I can't have any confidence in it.
80:31But like like this is a spot where I'm like dude like you got to show me something. Like you have to like you're
80:36at home against this defense starting all these new players. The secondary is still really weak. Uh their second round pick D'Angelo Ponds isn't playing.
80:45I mean they you gotta you got to show me more of this.
80:48>> What do you mean? What do you mean I gotta I don't got to do anything.
80:54>> Oh yeah.
80:55>> That's what I'm What do you mean?
80:57>> Yeah.
80:58>> I just don't believe it. I don't >> I know. Yeah. Yeah.
81:01>> But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm wrong.
81:03That's what I'm saying. Like to me this is information gathering. Like I could be wrong.
81:07>> I don't think I'm going to be so wrong that like Ward is shipping tournaments on DK this week.
81:12>> So >> yeah. Yeah. I'd like to be wrong.
81:15Frankly, I have a lot of tape. So, I'd like to be wrong. Please prove me wrong%.
81:19>> But, you know, if but I think I'm in a situation where I can be proven wrong.
81:24Like with I was saying with the Bucks, I have some questions about the Bucks. I wrote this in the walkthrough, but like
81:29I think I can learn the answers to those questions with these guys in my lineup.
81:33Like if I drafted Chris Godwin, I'm probably playing Chris Godwin. Same with the Luca. Same with Bucky. Right?
81:37They're going in my lineup.
81:38>> I'll learn more information. I'm optimistic about what that information will be. Maybe ultimately, you know, Bucky is in more of a split than I'd
81:46like and I'm bummed, but I think it's it's safe to trust these guys. It's like the exact opposite for me with the
81:51Titans, right? I don't think it's safe to trust these guys right now.
81:54Hopefully, we get some positive information in the in the coming weeks and and that changes my mind.
82:00>> Um, all right. We we talked about the Jets and the Titans. Um, so let's talk about an even worse offense and talk
82:07about the Browns. Uh, we got Deshun Watson traveling to the Jaguars. Chat Jacksonville will take on the Jaguars.
82:14Uh more efficient over his Browns tenure than Shador Sanders, but just barely.
82:19We're going to see both these guys this year. Um we're going to see a couple rookies starting for the Browns. Uh
82:26Harold Fannon would be my favorite to lead the team of targets, but not by a lot. I think Casey Conpsion is is very
82:33live to do that as well. Um, Denzel Boston perhaps could, although I think he's more gonna be kind of more sacrificial Xcoded, but I don't know. He
82:42had a really strong camp, so so he could actually be I'm excited to see what we have in him. I was drafting a good
82:47amount of them by the end of the summer.
82:49Um, but this is I mean, Brown's offensive line is awful.
82:56Uh, Jags were pretty good against the run last year and then they were they were kind of a big play machine through
83:02the air. I think kind of a overrated by the numbers, their their pass coverage, but probably good enough for this matchup. What do you think?
83:09>> Probably. Yeah. Uh yeah, their weak spot on paper is definitely that that secondary. That's why, you know, Travis Hunter is basically be playing so much
83:16quarterback this series. He's needed he's needed to play quarterback.
83:19>> Yeah.
83:20>> Um and yeah, you know, uh if you're if you're doing anything with the Browns, it's probably just Conception and Fannon
83:27with more like PPR base. I think we're going to get it. I think the Browns are probably drawing live. to at least have
83:31the most drop backs of week one. Uh because Todd Monan is like tried and true like he'll he'll throw the piss out
83:37of the ball like if you if he has if he's put in that situation and their road dogs the uh Jacksonville already
83:43faced the most pass attempts in the NFL last year. So I think Fannon and Conception >> 69% pass rate against the Jacks last
83:50year.
83:50>> So I think at least Conception and your and Fannon like you don't know what kind of touchdown equity you're going to get
83:55in this game but I think they'll get enough catches.
83:58>> You know generally we We do. So, at least, like I said, those guys can be target earners and stack catches. Uh, and that that's where my
84:07confidence lies with the Browns.
84:10>> Um, Jaguars side, a lot more to parse here. We've got a committee backfield.
84:15We've got some uncertainty in in the wide receiver roles.
84:21I'll I'll start with Hunter where I do think he plays some on offense. I've been consistent on that. I think he's
84:27not going to play a ton though. But I was just looking at his defensive snaps last year. He had he had a game with 61%
84:33round participation where he played 67% of the defensive snaps. Um he had a game with his last two games actually were 89
84:42or 86% round participation and then 89% played 33% and 22% of the defensive snaps. Given that he's not going to plan
84:50a ton of run plays, I think his offensive snaps will be tilted towards routes. So, I was like, you know, I
84:56really wouldn't be surprised if he had like 30% round participation in this game. Are you playing Hunter? No. You know, you're not going to He's basically
85:03just be annoying. But I'm my my read on Hunter is like I think he'll be annoying. Like I think I think he's
85:09going to steal some rounds from other guys still. I know it's kind of cleaner.
85:13I feel like the fantasy community sort of flipped to where like we want Hunter to go away completely. Um, you know, the
85:21the average opinion is that we want him to go away completely because that just makes some things so much cleaner. I
85:26don't think he's going to, though. I think he will still have some role on offense. Um, which just is going to make
85:31it harder to parse uh with the other three guys. Do you do you agree with me about that? Or you think he's just going
85:36to be full-time quarterback this week?
85:39>> I think this game sets up for them to not really need him to play much offense. Uh, just like what's the point?
85:46I don't think I don't think they'll have a ton of drop backs in general versus what they'll have in like their seasonal
85:50average when we get to the end of the line. Michael Dooko, one of their uh beats, actually said he hasn't even
85:57taken a offensive snap since August 25th. Uh because I think they're just preparing for this game. Like they're I I assume that they're just not thinking
86:06about him needing to play offense in this game. uh they're probably gonna be in a run script and that's I mean I'm not saying he's
86:14gonna run zero routes but I would be surprised if like this is the game I think the games where you look at Hunter
86:19to run routes like the games where the Jags are like getting push and need to open up the offense. I think even if you
86:25hate the the matchup and who knows what we're going to get out of the Browns defense uh I still think it looks good
86:31on paper. Uh but who knows, right? Like it's just an element of variance like they Jim Schwarz is gone, Miles Garrett's gone. I think they have a lot
86:38of really good pieces. So, who knows?
86:40But I do think that just the Jaguars being home favorites against a team with a 15-point team total, we're going to
86:45get more handoffs in this game, the Jaguars will have their base average for the season.
86:50>> I agree. And to be clear, I'm not saying like he his peak was basically like 127 128% of snaps,
87:01>> you know, like I don't think >> this isn't one of those games, but I'm basically wondering, you know, if we get
87:06to where he's still playing over 100% of snaps this week um because he he is playing some on the
87:16offensive side, which is I think I don't think it'll be among the highest probably be among the lowest that he plays on offense, but I still I
87:25basically I think the floor is still some which which makes things maybe a little bit trickier for the receivers.
87:33Um like you're saying this is already going to be a low drop back volume game uh probably. So what are what are your
87:41thoughts on like Washington Thomas Meyers? You have Brenton Strange as a passcatching tight end. Um it's just crowded. This has been
87:51>> very crowded, >> you know, a tough a tough one to I found it, >> you know, in baseball, like part of the
87:56reason I wasn't that in on Parker Washington is like I don't think I want the most expensive guy here. I don't
88:01have a lot of Brian Thomas either. It's not like I I was paying up to get Thomas. Um it's like the cheaper the guy
88:07got, the more interested I was because it's like it's just hard for me to know exactly how this plays out. But in
88:12writing the article, I was looking at Parker Washington splits and stuff and his weekly game log down the stretch. It was quite good. You know, very good.
88:22>> You know, you do you do uh that jumps out to you, you know, when you got the color-coded charts, you're like, "Oh,
88:28yeah, he was uh absolutely nuking." Um >> so, obviously, I'd say he has the most upside here, but, you know, the volume side of it is a
88:38concern. Now, the nice thing about Washington is that he had a deeper A dot last season and he's kind of this like
88:44like field stretching slot as opposed to like a underneath target accumulator.
88:49And so, I think he still has a a decently high ceiling here if he is like the true number one and is able to uh
88:59capitalize on on, you know, some big plays even if dropback volume is limited against a bad team.
89:05>> Yeah. I mean, he's just has the best of both worlds role, right? Like where you look at Brian Thomas Jr., he was
89:11basically, you know, Jaguars, Alec Pierce, when these three guys played together, Jacobe Myers, Park Washington, Brian Thomas, and if he's going to be
89:18locking up with Denzel Ward, like yeah, he could still catch a touchdown, but like in a low volume game, like you
89:23probably need that. Um, the Browns faced the fewest targets per game to wide receivers last year because one, they were bad, and two, they have good
89:30quarterbacks. like um so like it's hard to see like a lot like a huge ceiling for all these guys. Washington I'm like
89:38just like reconciling with like still having the most like per target upside of the three guys. Maybe he can get over
89:44that way. So like I'd still be confident like at least playing him as like a with like dampened expectations of like a
89:49wide receiver three plus versus there will be weeks where I he treat I'd treat him as like a wide receiver two plus and
89:55greater. Um but yeah, I I think that this game eventually turns up in a lot of handoffs. the wor like the most
90:01probable out for this game is it not just like the Jaguars winning like 20 to3 and like like no one smashes they
90:08just control the game and it's just stupid.
90:11>> Well, if they do that they're going to run the ball a bunch. What what's your read on the back field
90:16>> so far? I mean I think that they they do want to split these guys. Uh you've get a more explosive guy and Bashel Tuton.
90:22He gets a little bit of an uh of an opening I think to more receiving stuff early in the year now with Laquin Allen
90:28out. I do think we're going to see Amir Abdullah play the pointless plays and people always in fantasy overrate these because they're like how they're empty
90:35calorie plays anyways like these long down and distance snaps like Amir Abdullah is going to play on those for pass blocking but like he was never
90:41going to like catch passes on them right like and I think Quinn Allen was going to be that anyways so I'm like not
90:46>> sorry Goomba stuff.
90:48>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And uh but I do think he has a a pipeline to catch more early down stuff. It's just on paper, I feel
90:55like the Browns have an advantage here defensive line versus the Jaguars offensive line. The Jaguars offensive line looks flatout bad and they already
91:01lost one of their better guys than Patrick Mccari to an injury, a back injury this preseason. Um because it's not like the Browns didn't get anything
91:08for Miles Garrett. Like they got Jared verse back. They still have Mason Graham. They still have Malik Collins.
91:12Like this still looks like the makings to be a good run defense. It's just the element of Jim Schwarz like leaving and
91:19you know then throwing kind of like just a little smidge of variance in here.
91:24>> And then just how hot the Jaguars ran last year. Are they able to roll over that capacity? Uh probably in week one
91:30because like this was the number one team in terms of uh drives that started uh in the opposition side of the field
91:35due to turnovers. So maybe that still is in play here. Maybe that that regression takes a week to get going because of Deshawn Watson. It would be
91:45funny if like the Jaguars are like regression's about to hit and they have like three pick sixes.
91:50Like this is so many.
91:53>> Well, they're the hot the the streamer, right? Like how could they not be?
91:57>> Yeah. How could they not be >> against Sean Watson? But I think both those guys, you're still playing those guys. It's like they they're probably
92:03more touchdown dependent fantasy plays still, but >> at least there were worse spots attached to a home favorite by a touchdown,
92:10right?
92:12>> Yep. Yep. Um, yeah. I mean, I think you're right about the the the funny thing about the Browns last year is they were a run funnel. Teams
92:23had 57% pass rate against them, minus 5% POE. They shift teams shifted 2% to the run from uh their their average P over
92:31the course of the year. So, you know, this is a team that opponents were attacking on the ground, but like so
92:40clearly because they just didn't want to deal with Miles Garrett and it was not about them attacking a weakness. The the
92:47Browns were really good against the run, seventh in rushing DVOA, sixth in EPL opera rush, fifth in rushing success rate. They were second in run stop win
92:56rate. their their defensive line was awesome last year and I agree remains really strong even though they don't have Garrett.
93:02>> Yeah.
93:03>> So, yeah, it's not a great matchup for the Jaguars run game, but there should be volume here and that makes me feel
93:12good um for Tuton and for Rodriguez because I'm just not sure like what the split is. you know, if it's 5050,
93:22maybe there's not a lot of games where I can count on a bunch of carries for either guy. I probably can here. And so
93:29I, you know, in lineups where I'm like, "Yeah, I kind of need Toutin. You know, I'm thinner at running back. I took him
93:36in the fifth round. I'm gonna I'm gonna start him and hope for the best." I I think I'm comfortable doing that here.
93:41It's not like a smash spot by any means, but, you know, you you've made the bet with Tuton. I think it's uh it's not a
93:47DFS spot for me with him either, but No, >> it's definitely like in in season long leagues. I think I'm if I drafted him, I
93:53think I'm I'm good about I'm good to just put him in lineups right away.
93:56>> Yeah. I mean, you have him as attached to a a touchdown home favorite with uh a probable volume spike. And if there's
94:03one of the guys that's going to turn uh a chunk play or an explosive, like he would still be the bet. And you're the
94:10more volume you get, the more chances you have a bite at that apple of turning in that explosive. Uh, >> and the explosive could be a little dump
94:16off screen type thing, you know, just a little quick hit or pass. Like it doesn't have to be just him slamming it
94:22up the middle. I think that's probably going to be more Rodriguez anyway. So, >> correct.
94:26>> Um, and I'm talking when I when I say that too, it's like I'm thinking it's second and six, you know, it's like not
94:32some uh, you know, he doesn't even need to be on the field for a long distance play or whatever. Um, all right, let's
94:41go to the Bills and Texans. This is a tough spot for the Bills and it's a tough spot for us a little bit because I
94:48want to learn about the Joe Brady Bills.
94:51I'm not sure we're going to get like definitive answers about what he's trying to do because this is such a difficult matchup. They're going to be
94:57very kind of game plan. This game plan will be like specific to how you deal with the Texans more so than telling us
95:03a ton I think about what the overall plan is.
95:07Yeah, I mean, uh, we've we've already seen this story two years in a row with, uh, the Bills and, you know, Joe Brady's
95:12obviously been there, but, uh, it's been bad for Josh Allen in these two games.
95:18Uh, two years ago, he had a 30% completion rate against the Texans, the worst of his career. Uh, he was the QB
95:2417 in that game. Last year, he was the QB 21. They pressured him, and think of the Bills offensive line, like you don't
95:30see Josh All with these types of pressure rates. They pressured him in the last two years. It's 43% and 45% of
95:35his drop backs uh under pressure in these two games. Josh Allen combined four of 22 passing.
95:41Like this is not Josh Allen. And they got you can make the case the Texans got better. They added Reed Blankenship
95:48which allows them to do this like complete chess piece move which we've seen like NFL defenses start to do with like Kyle Hamilton and Nick Warary. So
95:56now Jaylen Petri is just like a movearound piece for them. Like he's going to play slot. he's going to play safety. They might even blitz him like
96:04like they could be better. They could be better on defense this year. Um they're at home which is where these last two
96:10games have been the last two years and you know understand like people aren't streaming like Josh Allen paid based on like the capital you paid for him and
96:18like the because he has a ceiling versus anyone but like it's very hard to project it here.
96:24Gosh, I'm just I'm enjoying the idea of Josh Allen as a streaming quarterback.
96:31>> There was a couple guys there was a couple guys like May was one and and Allen I was like I know it's not easy
96:37but like these are guys that like you might just want to have one dude for week one like maybe.
96:42>> Yeah. Yeah, I know. I know. It's wild.
96:45Um, but yeah, I mean the the Texans were they were so good last year and it is very much driven by their talent. So
96:57they had the lowest blitz per drop back in the league last year. They were seventh in quick pressure rate. They're fourth in pressure rate. Like this is
97:07the this is the formula for for how you get I mean it's like the classic you know pressure >> history of football in the history of
97:14football >> right the history of football get pressure at the front front four don't blitz sit back in coverage right like
97:23it's just the cl like this is it is hard to assemble >> but if you can you you definitely should because it's like it it's just absolute
97:34kryptonite for quarterbacks, including elite quarterbacks, Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Like, this is just a super super difficult setup to overcome.
97:43Texans are just going to be an insane defense this year. Uh like they were last year. It's very much talent driven.
97:49Not to take anything away from Demetry, but like it's just this is like you want a defense that's like this, right? Like
97:56this is the goal is to build a defense where it almost doesn't matter what the scheme is because the guys are just like
98:02all such differencem defensive players and you know you can play kind of the best scheme there is which is not having
98:10to blitz like ever. So yeah, it is it is a really tough spot for the Bills. Last year I I did note in the walkthrough
98:17that they had uh a 69% pass rate in this in the game they played against the Texans. Now, it didn't go great, but
98:27you know, last year we had frustrations with, frankly, with Joe Brady as well as Shawn McDermott. Uh, I didn't really let
98:34Brady off the hook there for the way he was calling the offense, but the issue with the Bills wasn't that they were
98:42just like week in week out runheavy.
98:44They they had uh above a 61% pass rate, which was the average pass rate last year. They they hit that in 42% of their
98:51games, eight of 19 games. Um, so it wasn't like they were just always running the ball, but there were certain games like against the Steelers last
98:59year, against the Panthers last year, against the Jets last year where like they'd have, you know, for example, against the Panthers, they had a 54%
99:08expected pass rate, they passed 42% of the time, they lose the game. So like it's that that was my issue with the um
99:18with the Bills. It was like they kind of it was sort of like more like the Packers where like it's like hey like
99:23what are you doing? You've got an incredibly efficient quarterback and you're playing like you're trying to hide your quarterback. Like can you just
99:30play to your own strengths and win? Um but in a tough matchup like this, they didn't go into a shell. They didn't they
99:38didn't try to hide Allen. I'm actually like less concerned about that. They played the they played the Ravens week one before all of their injuries and
99:48they had a 70% pass rate. Um, so they weren't like they weren't a fearful team. They were like an over they got
99:56tight actually in like matchups they should easily crush people in. They would like get tight. Uh, so I I have a
100:05little bit of optimism that the Bills will at least like play to win this game, do what they have to do, and you
100:12know that we'll see some drop back volume at the very least.
100:15>> Yeah, 100%. It's just the the confidence level of like they're going to do the things and just how successful can you
100:20be doing the things they just need to do enough of the things successful to maybe win the game. But from us, like it's
100:26just hard to like latch on to like any like ceiling outcome. Like you're just hoping and like you say, you're you're
100:31playing your guys probably. You know, you're probably playing Josh All.
100:34>> I mean, I I discounted Cook, you know, you're probably playing him, but like I >> Oh, yeah. I think he had two he had two
100:41okay games from a fantasy stance in these two matchups. And you hope that too with Tai Johnson being out and and
100:47all the rumors that with Pete Carmichael they are going to throw to him more that maybe helps him in matchups like this
100:53where previous years you didn't have that out or at least last year you didn't have that out. uh because he's the opposite of what we talked about
101:00Chase Brown. When they have thrown to James Cook, he's been like an a plus when they throw to him >> and they caught the ball a bunch in
101:07college. Like that was kind of >> Yeah.
101:08>> Like he he looked like he'd be a >> a like a 1B receiving back and he's a one or more than 1A. He's like a true
101:16starter. Um but but doesn't play third downs and doesn't catch the ball in early downs. It's really weird.
101:23>> Yeah. Yeah. 100%. But you're hoping like I said like Pete Carmichael in institutes some of that and it's like added here because it's hard to project
101:30any of these guys winning on the outside in this matchup like and they don't have to necessarily win on the outside. DJ
101:36Moore and Khlo Shakir are going to move around but like I'm not projecting DJ Moore and Khlo Shakir to like dominate
101:41this matchup like no like at all. What one guy that I the guy I'm like most intrigued by not really because of the m
101:52I'm not intrigued by anyone because of the matchup but Daltton Concincaid at least I'm like hey my upside case for him is just like he's healthier he runs
102:01more routes and his we were too tied to his 51% route participation last year and actually he's at 65 now and which is
102:13you know closer to where he he was before last year. And it's like, you know, he's a good player. He can do a
102:19lot more when he when he's out there for like 15% more of the the routes. So, I'm uh I'm a little bit optimistic on
102:27concaid.
102:29>> Uh or I I guess I'm less worried about what this matchup might do because my upside case really just relies on him
102:35playing more of the snaps and I don't think anything about this match would change that, >> right? And he plays a lower bar
102:42position.
102:42>> He plays a low bar position. So like I I can see like where you're just in a spot where like you just
102:46>> you look at concade versus like I don't know like who you would even be considering like to to start over him.
102:52You would just be like yeah I'm just going to play him and and hope I get more out participation and I get more
102:56upside and that maybe the receivers are getting suffocated. But like I said the fact that they added Reed Blankenship to this defense and it allows Peter to move
103:03around like he could be on him. Like who knows? Like >> I I'm treating the Bills like I I understand what you have to do where you
103:10drafted some of these guys. Uh, I'm probably, you know, benching DJ Moore.
103:15Like, if I had Coker or DJ Moore, I think I would play Coker uh versus DJ.
103:19>> I think I would I would play Coker.
103:20Yeah, I would play Coker.
103:21>> Yeah, but like I'll see these Bills in week two against the Lions. I'll see all you guys in week two.
103:28See you all. Wheels up. We're going to get those points back in week two.
103:31>> I don't know. I don't feel as good about the Bills off this match up playing on Thursday. True about the lights,
103:39>> but they're opening that new stadium like it's going to be the juices will be there.
103:44>> Come just got our asses kicked in a rock fight for three hours.
103:52>> So brutal. Um but yeah, the Lions defense will be a a welcome change next week.
103:59>> Uh all right, Texans side. I mean, the Bills big big big runf funnel last year.
104:04Um Ed Oliver was was in and out of the lineup last year which I mean he he had an impact. Um but it's also like one
104:13player and I'm not sure um you know ultimately if this dynamic is really going to change for the Bills. They were
104:20they were second worst in rushing DVOA last year, 28th in rushing success rate, and teams had a 58% pass rate against
104:29them, which when you think about it's kind of nuts that the Bills opponents had a had a uh pass rate 3% below the
104:38NFL average. Like like h how how are you as the Bills like allowing that to be the way the teams are are taking you on?
104:47You know, >> I wrote about this in the offseason, man. Go for go to finish. Yeah, I wrote about this though. This is the angle I
104:53took.
104:55>> They should just be passing on people more so they don't they can't run on them like this.
104:59>> No. Well, so like me, Sanderson, and Gretch all wrote different articles about like the the heavy personnel and like we all approached it from like
105:06different angles and like my angle was about how teams were doing it to get defenses to come out of sub packages.
105:14But Shawn McDermott was one of these coaches that stayed in sub packages and didn't have the personnel to do it because remember Shawn McDermott hit the
105:21height of his powers. Like he went he came through the 11 personnel boom like he was part through like like Big Nickel
105:27was at the forefront and part of his undoing was he died in Big Nickel. Uh they were you know the last year they
105:35were fifth in the NFL in rate of sub packages on run plays against two tight end sets. Dude, they allowed 7.6 6 yards
105:42per carry on those plays. Like >> yeah, >> the NFL league average pass play was seven yards.
105:48>> Like this is why it happened. Like this is why it happened. Uh they were one of these teams that just died it and so you
106:00can do it like you can play sub package against the run if you're the Seahawks, >> right? Like when you had the personnel
106:05to do it. The Bills never had the personnel to stay in that. And I don't think we're going to see that. Uh, you
106:10know, they hired Jim Leonard who comes from uh he he he coached uh under Vicio.
106:16Uh where's he been? He's been the defensive backs coach last year for Denver. Uh they're going to play they're they're going to switch their offense
106:23but or defense, but it's hard to get to where is how good it's going to be because they have so many guys that are
106:30leaving the defense and so many new guys on defense. Like they're just losing a ton of snaps. Like Matt Milano, Joey
106:37Bosa were all over 600 snaps. AJ Epenza, like even if you didn't think these guys were good, they played a lot. Uh Daquin
106:45Jones was at 500 snaps. Terren Johnson 700 snaps. Tradavius White 800 snaps.
106:49And like they brought in D. Alford and Bradley Chub and CJ Gardenner Johnson.
106:53Like it's just a mystery box. Like it's just a real mystery. But I don't think they're going to just like die in sub
107:00package anymore because that's not obviously what Denver did. Uh you know, so I would assume that we're not going to see that happen.
107:07>> Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense. It is. It's interesting though because you're going against a Texans team that like was balanced last year
107:17and they didn't have, you know, we talked about the Saints earlier like, well, they didn't have a running back really. So, what were they supposed to
107:24do? Well, the Texans didn't have a running back and they still just kind of ran the ball. So, you know, now that
107:30they have David Montgomery and Woody Marses apparently looks better. Um, so, you know, maybe they feel even more confident than just leaning on
107:38Montgomery, but you'd have to imagine that they're going to be testing this this Bills run defense here. Um, given that, you know, they they want to lean
107:46on their defense. They want to keep Josh Allen off the field and they clearly want to run the ball based on the way
107:51they ran the offense last year when they didn't even have a running back. Um, so, you know, I feel pretty good about David
107:57Montgomery getting a good amount of carries here for sure. Right. Um, I have him as a high-end RB3. It's not like
108:03he's some kind of smash play, but you know, you you feel confident about the volume.
108:07>> Yeah, 100%. And we're going to find out about that subpack just like you said, they're going to line up and run the
108:11football uh regardless. Like they they added Marlon Klein, they added uh you know, Talon Rutled in the first round.
108:17They got rid of all their bad man gap runners a year ago or blindman. So, they're going to put this to the test
108:24like right away. So, we'll know right away if like there's a true change under Jim Leonard, which I still believe there
108:29will be. The question that I want to know, the million-dollar question for me though with the Houston Texans is they've got all this signal that they're
108:36going to do these things and they could potentially run the football better is now are they in a better spot for Nick
108:43Kaye to make adjustments to doing some of the things we want to do like pre- snap motion and play action because they
108:49didn't do any of it in year one with him. And CJ Strad when the the the little bit that he got to play with the
108:56easy buttons, play action and pre- snap motion. He was a top 10 quarterback in both yards for pass and yards per
109:02completion in both categories. And I at least want to keep the door open for Nick Kay saying like maybe you didn't do
109:08that year one because you had no faith in your offensive line, your wide receivers were hurt, and you couldn't run the ball. But if he's not doing it
109:14early on and they're a they're running the ball, I'm I'm going to have big questions about Nick Kay. Yeah, I already have questions about Nick Kelly.
109:22>> That's fair.
109:23>> Yeah, >> but yeah, we'll see. Um, >> not too not too much else here. I mean, obviously Nico Collins is Nico Collins
109:34and you know, Daltton Schultz looks like the number two pass catcher probably Kahan Booty number two wide receiver, but not exactly a big time separator or
109:43anything. So, >> I don't know. There's too much more to say on the Texans side. Did you have anything?
109:48>> No, that's that's it.
109:51>> Yeah. All right. Um the we've done the one o'clock window.
109:58So I think we can kick things off in the four:00 window with our wagon of the week.
110:05>> This is our wagon, baby. The wagon of the week.
110:07>> The team's just rolling right now. This team is just they're wagon.
110:11>> They are [ __ ] wagon. We're going to have a nice old picnic. Load that wagon up. Like we're whatever you need to put
110:16in that wagon.
110:17>> Their wagon.
110:18>> Yeah, this is our wagon of the week, baby.
110:21>> What does wagon mean?
110:24>> Got to use that. I >> forgot how good that clip was, too.
110:29>> It is so good. The All right. I mean, you got the C hat, you know. I think it's it's quite apt. Chargers officially
110:37the wagon of the week. Tell tell the people about why the Chargers are an absolute wagon right now.
110:43Yeah, I think this this works from a multiple angles, but I think they're going to just I think they're going to
110:47be in a great spot to score points in this game. The big addition of Mike McDaniel that uh not a lot of people
110:53talk about is what he's going to do for this offense is they're going to be better in the red zone and they're going
110:58to be better on early downs. Uh the Chargers were 29th in red zone touchdown rate. They were 19th in goalto touchdown
111:06rate. Last year the they were they were ahead of only the Tennessee Titans in rate of set of series that didn't make
111:14it to third down like that like they they face third down on the highest rate of the Titans the only team worse. Uh
111:20and when you look at Mike McDaniel uh his tenure in Miami they were seventh in scoring rate on red zone possession
111:27seventh in goal to go possessions. Even if you just look at last year alone they were still effective. Uh, one of my
111:33favorite stats that I always bring up and Davis always hates it is that Tua has had a higher touchdown rate than
111:38Patrick Mahomes in each of the past three years. Uh, because Mike McDaniel manufactures touchdowns, man. This is what this is what you still get. U, and
111:47then the other side here is Arizona decided the first year under Michael Flor to just address the offense. They
111:57only used two draft picks on defensive players this year. One was in the fourth round on Caleb Proctor. He's out for the
112:03year with a knee injury. And then they use a sixth round pick on an offball linebacker who's not a starter and not
112:08going to play. In free agency, they signed a three-tech and Roy Lopez, not a pass rusher at all, and safety Andrew
112:15Windgard. They kept re uh defensive coordinator Nick Railis, who has been uh with the team since they hired Jonathan Ganon. no changes on a team that they'll
112:24be healthy better because they'll be healthier, but on a team that had got no pressure, couldn't stop to run, couldn't stop to pass. I mean, this you're at
112:33home indoors, there's just not a better setup, man.
112:39The setup is great. Um, and part of the reason I I mean the part of the reason I love the setup is you've got, you know,
112:49what what is Mike McDaniel going to do like at a macro level? It's I love I love the red zone early down
112:55>> notes. I also think he's going to be focusing more on, you know, getting the ball out of Justin Herbert's hands
113:02quickly, focusing on yards after catch, and then Mike McDaniel's been great at designing the run game as well. So, you know, kind of more consistency on the
113:13offensive side of the ball, better running game, more yak. That's kind of like the macro level stuff. But at the micro level,
113:21how? And that's what I'm not I'm not sure. I don't know.
113:26Is he gonna just like use Amarian Hampton as an absolute workhorse because he was an absolute workhorse in college and he's good, you know, the offensive
113:33line is back, he could have some really fun plays for Amarian Hampton. That would make sense to me. Would also make
113:39sense to me if that's not the plan at all. And he's got like a whole thing for Keaton Mitchell worked out and you know
113:45Keaton Mitchell. I was looking at Ke Mitchell and I haven't been the biggest Keaton Mitchell guy this summer.
113:49Although I did draft some of them when the mysterious injury happened. That's when I got my exposure up a little bit.
113:53>> Yeah. Yeah. Um he had uh he ranked running back three in rush yards over expected per attempt last year. He was
114:04running back 22 in rush yards over expected per game. He had he had 15% of the Ravens carries last year. So he was
114:14he was able to get to running back 22 in a a per game metric despite barely playing. So he was very very explosive.
114:22Um, he definitely has that going for him. How much he plays though, I really don't know. I want to find out. I'm
114:29excited to find out.
114:31>> Vlad Maki was incredible two years ago.
114:342.59 yards per route run.
114:36>> He has had an incredible open score in in each of the last two years. He's been really good there. Uh, over the last two
114:42years combined. He's wide receiver 12.
114:45Quinton Johnson's wide receiver 86 in that metric. He was better than Johnson in yards per route run last year, but only at 1.44
114:54for Johnson was better than than Maki.
114:571.44 to 1.35 two years ago when the offense was actually good. It was 2.59 to 1.63 in Makkey's favor. So I think that Makanki
115:06is clearly the better receiver and that the offense will be designed to feature him. But I could be wrong. Maybe Trey
115:12Harris who was really efficient in college or Quinton Johnson who's really good after the catch. Maybe those guys will be actually be driving things.
115:19Charlie Kolar, what's his role? I was drafting him in baseball. That that'll be fun to find out, you know, or does
115:23Ronda Gatson emerge from, you know, is he is he undertake taker meas, you know, on 45% round participation actually have a pretty good role or is he a healthy
115:33scratch? There's like so many kind of player level things that I just don't have a good read on. I could see there's
115:40a wide range of outcomes. I could see a number of different ways that these things play out, but I'm pretty sure
115:46that whatever McDaniel has planned is going to work.
115:52>> It's hardly here.
115:53>> Beautiful.
115:53>> You know, it's like whatever they And so for DFS and stuff, I'm like I just need to like try some different combos. I
116:01think like I would like to have multiple Chargers lineups because the know I do I tend to do like six lineups in a week.
116:08So, I'm thinking like, you know, a third of my lineups might be Chargers stuff because I can total or maybe like, you
116:15know, I've got Chargers oneoffs in my non- Chargers stacks be there's got to be points here. There's something good things are going to happen for the
116:24Chargers. I just don't I'm not sure what, but it's hard to see how they put up a stink bomb. They just don't take
116:30advantage of SP. They have an implied team total 28.5 and that the defense is is going to be is going to be bad on the Cardinal side.
116:39>> Yeah. So they didn't address it any like they've chosen year one to you know they they they bought a lot of linemen in
116:44free agency. They tried to draft Chase Bantis at the top of round two. He's unfortunately out for the year. They draft Jeremiah Love. They add Tyler Air.
116:52Like they really focused on adding offensive pieces this year. So, I expect them to understand like defensively they're probably gonna they're going to
117:01be against it. I think they told Nick too like you're going to fall on the sword. We'll we'll continue to to employ
117:05you. Uh and it's just the way >> but not for long.
117:10>> Yeah. Um yeah, I've been kind of like cautious with the Chargers this year.
117:15not believing like top down I believe like they're going to be successful but the one element I've been trying to be
117:20cautious with them is trying to project too much what McDaniel did with the Dolphins on the Chargers because one is obvious
117:30versus Herbert. I mean, anytime you've seen >> anytime you've seen Mike McDaniel talk about Herbert, he looks like a kid that
117:36got like the thing he asked for on Christmas, like >> he did. That is what happened.
117:41>> Trying to play with a guy like this for his whole life.
117:43>> Like Herbert, there's that clip of Herbert making like a one that one throw in practice and he's like, I didn't even
117:47know you could make on that combination make that throw, that route combination.
117:50Like, holy [ __ ] man. Like uh and then the other difference too is like those Miami Dolphins teams were so inherently
117:58topheavy where the Chargers actually have like a like viable >> Yeah, that's true. That's true.
118:03>> Like cuz McDaniel got he was like, "Hey, my d my three best players are Jaylen Wadd, Tyreek Hill, and Devonte Chan. I'm
118:09going to get these three guys the football as much as possible. I'm going to design it to do that." Does does he
118:14feel that way about like a set core of these players? Maybe he does. I don't know. Right. like, but he might be
118:20looking at it and saying like, "No, I have three usable tight ends. I have multiple usable running backs. I have three usable receivers." Right?
118:27>> Brennan Thompson's had kind of an interesting camp. He's, you know, he's a guy you could scheme up, you know, some
118:32some stuff for, you know, like he could be someone you're mixing in and Yeah.
118:37>> Yeah.
118:38>> Yeah. Right. And you know, >> and also we have never seen we've the only player that's even come close that
118:44Herbert's played with that can run like Brennan Thompson is Jaylen Gayton. Uh and I encourage anyone if you've never seen the throw, go back to year two
118:52Herbert. He has a touchdown to Jaylen Gayton against the New York Giants. It is the most bonkers throw. I've been waiting for him to just have one of
118:59these throws in him again. Uh and I think it's going to be to Brennan Thompson at some point. Now, maybe not
119:04week one, uh, but at some point he's going to unccork like a a ball like this where you're just going to be like,
119:09"What? What the hell was that, man?"
119:13>> Yeah. I mean, I I agree with you, though. Like it could be also frankly like he had Tua, you know, and so
119:22there's certain types of throws that he has to be the offense has to be very particular in the types of throws that
119:28it's creating the windows and and the the timing like the ball needs to get out quickly and you know we've got to
119:35really jump through a lot of hoops to create explosive downfield throws because Tua doesn't really have the arm to do that. But I mean he did. McDaniel
119:44was able to create that effectively for a while. He's quite sharp. But I mean, yeah, he doesn't have to like Herbert is
119:51can can take a lot of that stuff off his plate a little bit and then maybe he is able to do more interesting things with
119:58the depth that the Chargers have. you know, they do have like Gadston is I I I have been surprised that they don't seem
120:06that interested in using him because he is an interesting guy as you know, a big tight end hybrid receiver type of dude.
120:13Um, but you know, Injoku, Colar, like there's guys that this could be like a total committee, you know, at at tight
120:23end. could be a really spread out target tree at wide receiver >> or like the I mean Maki could be like an
120:31absolute star like I just I don't know but like I'm >> I guess the answer might just be Herbert you know I think Herbert
120:39>> Yeah Herbert's not he's not platooning >> so yeah this is a great spot for Herbert >> 100% that's why yeah Herbert's in a
120:48great spot I still think like as a uh this big of a home favorite like against in this matchup like you this is
120:55like if you're not excited to play Hampton like you'll never be excited to play him.
120:59>> I know I know we need some kind of reveal still but I feel like you play this spot in general and I'm definitely
121:06going to play it with a spot with a 220 pound first round running back that actually catch passes like >> it's it's a definite like I it's not
121:14even an F around find out situation.
121:16It's like like come on man I'm just doing that like always at face value.
121:19>> Yeah. Uh, so >> I think Keith Mitchell could have like seven carries, three targets, and Hampton could still score two touchdowns
121:25and just be like, you know, like you don't need to get it perfect on on Hampton in this spot.
121:30>> No. And I know that there's some interior offensive line stuff that is still exist on this team on this roster,
121:35but uh you're still getting a big explosive back uh that I think in in a home favorite spot with almost 10
121:43points. Uh I'm still playing. I'm nibbling. Like you said, I mean, Makanki stuff, if they do run back the Miami formula, right? Then you've got Lad as a
121:53as a rookie was destroying in one to two wide receiver sets and he was destroying in pre-net motion. Like he's going to be
121:59the movement guy like for sure.
122:02>> And like he was destroying. I mean, on plays at motion as a rookie, 2.95 yards per out run on plays with play action as
122:09a rookie 4.3 yards per out run. like like >> that's wild.
122:15>> The the one thing with Lad that's that was always the toughest point is like he's never been like a huge target
122:21earner like like he's he has like no individual he has like I think three games through two years where he's he's
122:26hit a 30% target share. Um, and you know, he's the one guy too, like he has the body composition like can he survive
122:32getting a lot of targets.
122:34>> Like he's like he's like always picking himself off of the ground. And I have one main event team where we got Lad
122:40Jaylen Wadd and and Christian Watson. I was like [ __ ] Blue Tent City here, man. Like >> did you change the name to Blue Tent
122:47City?
122:48>> No, I should have though. But uh yeah.
122:51And then Quinton Johnson, if they do some of this stuff too, like dude, he's he's a guy that runs in a straight line
122:57fast and a guy that can break tackles after the catch. Like if they're going to give him vertical shots and quick
123:01hitters at the line of scrimmage, like yeah, he could be good at doing that.
123:05Like uh yeah, he averages 7.1 yards per catch uh on throws at or behind the line of scrimmage the last two years. And
123:13that's with 31 of those targets. The base rate for receivers 5.6 >> uh on those catches. and he's 8.9 yards after the catch because remember you're
123:20catching somebody's behind the line of scrimmage and the base rate is 8.2 for those guys and like lad that's just not
123:25his game. I mean lad on those same plays three yards per catch 61.1 yards after the catch. Like so if there's a guy
123:31getting those quick hitters it's probably going to be him. So I treat this as they're the wagon for a reason.
123:37I need to smoke them if you got them game. If you got the Chargers smack them up, play them >> 100%. Yeah. No, this is the game. I
123:44mean, I always do the the um the cover boy for the walkthrough always comes from the one:00 window because then I
123:52can start the article with that game.
123:54But, you know, if the NFL had scheduled differently, it would have been uh Chargers leading leading the article because this is a very very fun uh setup
124:04for the Chargers. I don't know ultimately if it's going to be that fun for the Cardinals. Um, right.
124:12>> They, this is not the 2025 Cardinals. I do not expect them to pass like they did last year. They had just an absurd pass
124:19rate. Um, and really like it was it was after they they moved to Brassette from Kyler Murray where they really just
124:27started passing it. Uh, they weren't particularly efficient even with Brassette. They were actually less efficient with Brassette than they were with Murray. They just trusted him more
124:36and were more willing to to chuck it.
124:37So, you know, there is obviously game script will call for a lot of passing, but I'm not 100% sure about the way that
124:47the Cardinals handle that. Last year's Cardinals would have really leaned into it, but we we do see teams just try to
124:54get these losses over with. You know, they'll do >> six, seven minute drives to cut the lead to 13 in the third quarter kind of kind
125:02of crap. You know, like I I could definitely see that. So, it's, you know, I'm a little nervous about playing into the volume side of this.
125:12Yeah.
125:13>> On the Cardinals side, other than I'd say Trey McBride, who I mean, he is there. I just think I'm betting on him
125:19as the clear best receiver in the offense, >> just coming off an incredible season last year as a target earner. Not super
125:27super efficient, but pretty efficient for a tight end at 1.78 yards per hour run. Is actually a little bit of a down
125:32year for him, but finally scored touchdowns. I think he he's been too discounted this off seasonason. Um the garbage time stuff is both true and I
125:41think now being like like overcounted as far as trying to figure out if McBride can can turn in another really strong
125:47season because ultimately Trey McBride is just like a different guy at the tight end position. He's one of these rare guys who emerges that over the next
125:56like five, six, seven years, we're going to be talking about Trey McBride going high in drafts because he does something that other players don't do at this
126:04position. And that's that's what I'm betting on with McBride more than anything. Um, and I just feel very confident about that part of it. And
126:12they're going to have to pass some because they're huge dogs on the road.
126:17>> And Jeremiah loves Banged Up. I think the intersection I I also agree. This is like their our Saints take earlier. Like
126:22I think big picture they are going to be significantly lowered in terms of just raw dropbacks. But I do think for week
126:28one it sets up with Jeremiah Love being banged up, them being 10-point road dogs, them to kind of be pushed here a
126:34little bit. I would say the one way you don't get like that type of volume is that like we're getting the Mike
126:39McDaniel like run scheme and they're just running down their throats and >> which could happen.
126:44>> Which could happen. But uh I'm very interested in Trey McBride from a if you are going to bring someone back in this
126:51just because like a DFS spot like Micro Mayor is going to be so significantly owned because of his price point this
126:56week. But uh if Chris Liry is taking over Jesse Mentor, he was with Jesse Mentor in 2024. He coached Western Michigan's defense last year. But if
127:05he's going to run adjacent scheme, which he did at Western Michigan, I mean the Chargers the past two years have played
127:11the lowest rate of man coverage in the NFL. uh only Minnesota played cover one at a low rate. They play quarters at the
127:17third highest rate. And like over the past two years, not even just last year, where you're looking at this high drop
127:21back game, like McBride is the highest target rate per route run against zone coverages of any tight end in the NFL.
127:28Uh so if they're going to get a little bit bump of in terms of dropbacks and we typically will get big picture, I think
127:34he can get a lot of targets in this game. I think he makes sense to go against kind of like the way people are
127:39going to be building DFS lineups because you're starting trend cred regardless in your season on leagues. Uh yeah, like he's just not going to be a highly
127:46played guy though uh in DFS and I do think he offers a chance to have maybe you know you know eight plus to maybe
127:53even double digit targets in this game.
127:57>> I completely agree. Yeah.
127:59>> And that's it. That's the only Cardinal I feel good about. No, and I I just the way I wrote it up with the receivers is
128:05like I I think we're looking in an offense that all the things I said about the drop back volume like I do really
128:12care about that for the receivers because I'm not sure which of them is really the number two. I'm pretty confident that they're not the number
128:17one that McBride is and then which of these receivers is the number two option in the offense. I don't know. I think
128:23one of them could break out. Harrison was obviously an incredible prospect.
128:27you know, he could I I said, you know, his year three breakout could maybe end up looking like kind of Nico Collinsy,
128:32like he's like, oh, this, you know, this bigger downfield guy took a little while to to emerge, but now he's he's a star.
128:40I could I could still see that with Harrison. I could also see Wilson dusting Harrison and and being, you know, kind of the the Z in this offense,
128:48getting more targets over the middle.
128:50Um, and and also breaking out, you know, what it' be year four, I guess, for Wilson. But um you know I think that's
128:59possible. I I just don't have any confidence in either thing happening and I kind of think that's what you need because you're looking at a Jacobe
129:07Brassette offense that's about to lose a lot of dropback volume. Um and I you know you can talk about Mike Laflur and
129:14that's somewhat interesting as far as what he could be but he's got Nathaniel Hackett as Zoe.
129:20First of all, huge red flag for for Laflur that that's what he's like, I got to go like my first offensive hires. My
129:27first call is Nathaniel Haggett. Like that's incredibly bearish.
129:31>> I think he's going to be pretty caut if there was like a healthy Jeremiah Love too, I could maybe get uh more
129:37optimistic, but I definitely think for for the [ __ ] he took after that preseason usage, he's going to be extra
129:44cautious, I think, in week one.
129:46>> Yeah. And he unlike Jy because Jie's practiced in full all week and with no brace on or anything and it has been
129:52love has been limited all week. So I think we are going to see him kind of be limited in week one.
129:58>> I do too.
129:59>> Whereas kind of jainty is a little sneaky I think in week one.
130:04>> Interesting.
130:06>> Um well let let's talk about that. Let's talk about the Raiders and and the Dolphins. Um, neither of these teams.
130:15Uh, I tried to talk you into it. You said these this P this is not our wagon of the week.
130:21>> Is this where you're going to the the Kirk Cousins?
130:24>> That's what I was trying to Yeah. Kirk Kurt Cousins, baby. Come on.
130:28>> Kurt Cousins. I got to lose the >> Okay.
130:33Beautiful.
130:35>> Um, so we got Yeah, the Kirk Cousins starting for the Raiders. uh they passed it a pretty good amount last year. It
130:43was, you know, not the best kind of passing volume that you can get, but um I think their passing volume will
130:50decline, but hopefully they'll be a lot more efficient through the year. Um although then again, their number one receiver is Trey Tucker. They don't have
130:58Brock Bowers uh for the next few weeks and so it's hard to imagine them being super efficient. And I was pointing out
131:06in the walkthrough like, hey, you know, Michael Mayer was going to play a lot already. You know, it's not like he's a
131:11backup. You know, they're going to play a lot in 12 because they don't have any receivers. So, this still hurts the
131:15offense even with Mayor being like a pretty good replacement at tight end.
131:19>> They're like, well, now like you're playing like what are you're playing Jack B more, you know, something bad is happening. Some player who shouldn't be
131:28playing is now playing >> Bowers.
131:30>> Yeah. Someone who's not Brock Bowers is playing. like Michael Mayer was probably going to play half the snaps anyway or
131:35even more. So, uh yeah, I'm uh I'm not feeling great about this passing game.
131:41Genty against a Miami defense that could be awful. He I agree with you. He he looks interesting.
131:48>> Yeah, I think the one guy like all this movement does help like Bowers being removed and them having to play either
131:54Jack Bash or Ian Thomas more cuz either whether you want to stay in 12 or you're 11.
131:59>> This is nuts. Are you kidding? But >> I didn't know he was still in the league.
132:03>> Yeah. Like Jack Bash is basically like a a tight end anyways. So if you play more 11, I just think you're still getting a
132:09better blocker on the field than Bowers was. So like you could still just run and I think you're going to be able to
132:14run on this defense.
132:15>> Wait, are you saying Bes is a better blocker than Powers?
132:18>> I am.
132:24>> That's incredible. Yeah. Uh I mean this this team this Miami team that that's literally starting three rookies like I mean and the Raiders are the Raiders
132:35have this overhaul, right? It's not just Clint Kubak. It's what we talked about.
132:38Brennan Carol's no longer the other line coach. They brought in Rick Dennison who's been coaching 30 years. They had Tyler Lindal. They had Colton Miller
132:45back. They had Jackson Power Johnson. I was talking to Warren about this earlier to I was really pushing him to give out
132:50JT's rushing yardage as a prop because they didn't know where to line him and he's practiced in full. I'm like, Warren, if they if if this was set
132:58without this prayer circle thing, which I I'm assuming right now doesn't even matter because he's just he was full practice all week, like this Lion would
133:07be 20 yards higher than what it would be. Like he's he's a home favorite, which we'll never have again the rest of
133:12the season probably, I'm assuming. And against the worst team in the NFL, >> like >> Yeah. and and and he's he's he's priced
133:20really favorably uh on FanDuel particularly, which is probably more geared to him anyways, but like he would have been like a guy that had 20%
133:28ownership easily. Like this would have been the one spot people would really bullish on him and no one really knows how to be bullish on because of the
133:35injury, but I don't they're treating the injury as like there is no injury now.
133:40>> So, and I guarantee you we will see Mike Washington. I'm expecting to see Mike agree >> the ne because last year you can't have
133:47the same split, right? It's a it's not quite like the Kale Black thing, but like >> the who was second on the team in
133:52running back touches on the Raiders last year and what was the number? It was uh Raheem Mostard had 34. I think Mike
134:00Washington's going to have more than 34 touches this year. Uh, so I'm not I wasn't counting on Ash and JT to have
134:07this 100% thing even with the injury, but I think even Ash and JT at an 80% clip here is like very intriguing on a
134:14lot of levels. And we could still theoretically get 100% Ash and JT.
134:19>> I think so. I mean, I don't We never got a full read on the Raiders. I mean, >> can we get some fines? Can we get some
134:25fines going for the Raiders?
134:26>> They didn't have to tell us anything.
134:28>> I for Oh, we're going to have all of our guys on Sunday. Oh, you are because one of them's getting surgery right now. You
134:35dare. What are you talking about?
134:40Why are you lying? The day the guy's getting surgery. Like, we're going to find out like immediately. Anyway, I'm not mad. Don't put it in the paper. I'm
134:47mad. Um, but yeah, Mike Washington looked pretty pretty fun in the preseason. He's got a literally a 10 rass. You know, he's he's probably he's
134:58the type of guy kind of designed to look good in the preseason. He wasn't actually a good breakaway runner in college and I'm I'm pretty skeptical of
135:05him being very good. Still >> Evan comped him to Nile Davis was his comp and I like that. I was like, "Oh
135:11he does good."
135:13>> Nile Davis is a really good comp. The guy that um he comped to me statistically was Kaylin Bell.
135:19>> Oh yeah, that's a good one, too.
135:21>> Yeah, just just a freak athlete, but not probably a very good running back is is kind of how he profiles. 0.77 yards per
135:28out run in college, which is which is bad. And and didn't run a ton of routes.
135:32So, he's just not I think the thing I'm most confident with in Washington because he could be he could just be
135:38good enough at getting up to speed quickly that he has some utility as a runner in the NFL. I mean, he had like
135:43an insane 10 yard split and again, he did like I I saw him in the preseason, too. He looked looked pretty fun. Um,
135:50>> but I think the big thing for Genty is can he in year two take a big step forward as a pass catcher and
136:00because it because he was incredibly efficient in 2023 in college.
136:06>> Um, and then in 2024 as a receiver, I mean, and then in 2024, he was barely used as a receiver, but he just had
136:11absurd rushing usage. So, it's like, well, yeah, like what a he was also supposed to like catch, you know, a ton
136:18of passes, too. Like, they just there's only so much they could use him. So, I think his ceiling this season on this
136:24Raiders team really is going to come through him emerging as like a real receiving weapon, you know, kind of a like the Chase Brown style receiving
136:34role, but he's more explosive, you know, >> and Bowers being out helps him get targets, too.
136:41Bowowers being out I think could help for sure. Um and so that's where yeah if he sees you know some carries to Mike
136:48Washington but he's catching four or five balls like I will I will make that tradeoff a 100 times out of 100 and I
136:57think it's pretty likely that that is what happens.
137:00>> Yeah. I mean I'm I became throughout this week I just said if I can get one full practice and the fact that not only
137:05is he practicing full every day but that he was even wearing he was even wearing an ankle brace. That's awesome.
137:10>> Like I mean just Yeah. So I'm I'm not one of the super sleuths out here of the Twitter doctor streets, but I'm just
137:18like I don't know, man. He looks like they're treating him like he's not even really hurt right now.
137:23>> So Trey Tucker is probably the the top receiver for the Raiders and probably the top wide receiver in this game.
137:29Would you say that? Or or would you have Chris Bell?
137:33>> Yeah, I mean I I would say if if at least for week one, I'm still going to take the Caleb Douglas side of the Miami
137:38side. You're taking the Caleb Douglas side at least right now, >> which I think is fair. Yeah.
137:43>> Yeah. I I mean, cuz Chris Bell, he had a statement this week that said he is 80 to 85% himself. Uh, and I know they did
137:50the depth chart where they listed all three guys as starters, but um, they also took Kale Douglas ahead of Chris Bell, but um,
137:58>> yeah, >> which could mean nothing and that they but just I I think Kale Douglas also is very much the archetype of receiver that
138:04meshes with Malik Willis, but the Dolphins in general outside of Achan, I am treating like your Titans take like if if I end up being surprised, I'll be
138:13like cool, >> like very cool, but >> I can do something with this later.
138:18very won any money against me.
138:20>> Yeah. And you could play I think Willis at in 2QB. Uh nice floor. He's the throwback Konami guy. I don't know how
138:28much in one QB like what's the line where you would stream him over in week one.
138:32>> Um in hindsight, you would play him over some guys that played already, but you don't we don't have that luxury. Uh and
138:39then >> pulling up my rankings. Uh I have him over Straoud.
138:45>> Oh yeah. Yeah.
138:47But behind I haven't.
138:48>> But like in one QB in one QB I don't know how like who you're really getting him over that was drafted as a one QB,
138:54right? Like >> no one.
138:58>> Yeah, there's nobody.
138:58>> No one. There's nobody. There's nobody.
139:00I think Yeah, you you have someone better, >> right? Uh and like you said, if you end up surprised, you're like cool. You're
139:09cool.
139:10>> Yeah, exactly.
139:12Yeah. Um Yeah. Well, Achan obviously is the big, >> you know, um, >> well, before we get to Achan, let me
139:20just ask you quick about Dulich because he do you think he could be the number one target in this offense? He was very
139:25efficient last year. His playing time is sort of a little bit of a mystery, but what are your thoughts on him?
139:31Yeah, he has like uh kind of like the the problem that like this archetype has the the Dalton Concade, Chica Conquo,
139:39Isaiah Likely, the the fact that like he just he needs to be so much better in the in the run game because the Dolphins
139:45are another one of these teams like we don't expect them to be good, but I don't expect them to like really tilt to
139:50like the pass heavily. Like they're they're a team I think that's going to be really cool to like they're going to
139:55be really cool to like lose games like tight like as tight as possible uh and be like It's going to be tough for them
140:01to do that. Like their defense is so bad. They really have to be Jets level committed to running the ball, which I
140:06think they probably will be, but that's >> Yeah, I think they will be.
140:09>> It's in a in a sense it's like worse that they have a bad defense because they can't >> The only way they can make games close
140:17is to burn so much clock that the other team can only like score 17 to 24 points because they just don't have enough
140:27drives to score more than that.
140:28>> Yeah. you know what I mean? And it's like, hey, >> 17 to three this week.
140:33>> He's a guy I feel like at least like I could see it happening. Um, but another guy where like I'm pretty cool like
140:40saying like, all right, I have this on my bench. I can play this in the future.
140:45>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But so Han, I mean, this is a the >> the table is similar, right? Yeah. It's
140:53this is as good as it will get.
140:56>> Their favorite in one game is here right now. It's at home against the Jets. And I don't even think that it should be on
141:01paper a true a truism.
141:04>> Give me the Jets.
141:06>> Yeah.
141:07>> But this is as good as it going to get, right? Like you're you're you're not going you're going against a team that
141:12had the worst record in the NFL. Like you expect the game script not to be stupid. Like you can get him the ball a
141:18lot here.
141:20>> Yeah. No, I He's a clear-cut running back one here. Um, you know, the fact that like I
141:30Ham was a tough guy for me in drafts because I ended up like pretty even on him in baseball. Like I like I think I
141:36was rated at 8%.
141:37>> And he was not someone I was that interested in the early part of the second, but in the late second or the
141:43mid to late second, I would I would take him enough to where, you know, I didn't fade him. But also like
141:50I could the second round was the wrong round. like he's either he was a first round pick or like a three four turn
141:57pick probably >> and I really don't know which one.
142:00>> Well, you have >> because I could see both.
142:02>> You you really have to have 2012 Jamal Charles. Like that's what he has to be as a first round pick. Uh Jamal Charles
142:10in 2012 for those that are familiar remember the great Jamal Charles. uh had 1,700 yards, only six touchdowns on a two and 14 Kansas City team that was
142:21absolutely a Brisb coached by Romeo Cornell. Uh they played Brady Quinn and Matt Castle. Like it was a horrendous like that's the outcome you need. And to
142:28be fair, like in the thin like it's a small percentile outcome, but like he is the kind of guy like if there was a new
142:34Jamal Charles like might be this dude.
142:37It might be him. The thing that makes me nervous about him is like I think he could very easily be that and then it
142:42still doesn't work out because there's just not, you know, Malik Willis is stealing too many uh correct, >> you know, he he's turning too many drop
142:51backs into rushes of his own, you know, and then there's just not enough drop back volume where like if if you could
142:56give me like, >> you know, Jamal only caught 30. He only caught 30 that year.
143:04>> Yeah. Okay.
143:05>> He only had 35 receptions. I mean, he was just that good as a runner, man.
143:09Like, dude was just that he r he ran for 1500 yards.
143:15>> And I think that, like I said, I'm not I'm not saying that's probable. I'm saying that's what you have to have
143:19happen.
143:20>> That's kind of what you need to have for him to like pay off as a first.
143:22>> That would be your legendary up. I don't know how you wrote up his legendary upside, but like that. Did you write it
143:26up 2012 Jamal Charles? Like that's >> I didn't write it up exactly as 2012 Jamal Charles, but it was Yeah, it was
143:31one of those ones where I was like this this seems hard to do. It was more like it's it's easier to get him to like 21
143:38points per the 23 points per game. Like okay like um because when I do that article I'm like I can get it's always
143:47interesting like here's what's realistic and I'm like >> you're at 20 points buddy. Like oh okay >> something needs to improve here. It's
143:56probably not very likely if I'm I thought I was already being kind of kind to the guy and I'm three points per game
144:02short. Um, but yeah, I mean, he is such a talent.
144:06So, I think in these good matchups, you do I I think putting aside some of the macro concerns and just saying, "Hey,
144:13this guy's awesome. The matchup's good.
144:15>> Uh, I'm going to I'm going to play him.
144:17I think he's very very playable."
144:19Obviously, in your season stuff, but I like I haven't I haven't started building in DFS yet, but like I wouldn't I wouldn't be opposed, you know? I could
144:26see I could see him making sense this week for sure.
144:28>> Yeah, absolutely.
144:30>> Uh, all right.
144:32Let's go to the Packers and Vikings.
144:39So, um, thoughts on on the, uh, the way that the Packers are going to handle this game because the that what jumped
144:49out to me when I was writing this up, I was like, okay, Matt Leforce talked about I want to, you know, play my main
144:56receivers more and stop rotating in Bo Melton or whatever, and I want to, you know, maybe actually pass a little bit
145:02more. They they had the most Jordan Love had the highest DPA per game of every quarterback in the league last year.
145:08If I feel like with just like a better overall approach, we could have been talking about, you know, the Packers having an incredible season, love being
145:17truly in the MVP conversation like, but they they were so conservative, you know, they they played in this way.
145:23You're trying, you have this incredible advantage at quarterback and in the passing game, and then you're hiding it with this overly runheavy offense. They
145:31were playing very similarly to the Eagles and to the Bills last year in terms of really dictating the run. They were playing from ahead, but it cost
145:40them some games where they got overly conservative and ultimately like play to your own strengths, which was so clearly the passing game last year. Jacobs is
145:49out. Marshon Lloyd has not been able to stay healthy. It's like hard for me to imagine that loading him up with a ton
145:54of carries. The other options are Chris Brooks and and Caleb Johnson. So, you know, when I think about like before I
146:00get into the matchup level stuff, I'm like this really could be them actually playing aggressively. But then you're facing Brian Flores. He's going to blitz
146:09the crap out of you.
146:11>> And the Vikings were a massive, massive runf funnel last year. 52% pass rate against the Vikings last year by opponents. Uh minus 9% proe, a 6% shift
146:22to the run. Teams weren't messing around here. They they were running the ball.
146:26They did not want to just expose themselves to a Vikings team that had they ranked number one in pass rush win
146:32rate, number one in pressure rate, number one in quick pressure rate, and number one in blitz rate. So like Forest is coming for your ass, man.
146:42That's what's happening here. So it's like I it was a I kind of had a whiplash writing this up because I'm like, "Oh,
146:49nice." like, yeah, so many things point to Laflur actually like delivering on these promises to be more normal, but then he's in this matchup that you kind
146:57of can't be normal in. What are your thoughts on this one?
147:00>> Yeah, I I'm pretty big I was pretty big on the Packers pass game like in longevity, but I also wrote them up as
147:05like a team in the offseason like just have something else for week one just like except for maybe a couple different
147:10pieces. Uh because Jordan Love last year, well, this is the worst offensive line Matt Laflur's had uh by far uh since they've been there. I mean, Zack
147:20Booule is the only like plus starter they have on the offensive line. Um he changes it was Zack Tom. He changed his
147:26name this offseason, but like the Packers did this thing for and it's finally biting them in the ass where like they would draft guys instead of
147:33having them play one position, they would have them learn every offensive line position. And now they don't know where to play these guys. And it
147:39happened last year when they started to have injuries. they just didn't know where to play guys. So, this year, Jordan Morgan's moving to left tackle.
147:44Shawn Ryan's the one guy staying put at left guard. Anthony Belton uh is getting is getting thrown uh in at right tackle.
147:50Aaron Banks is back. Like, this is a terrible uh offensive line. And Jordan Love was the most pressure sensitive quarterback last year when he was from a
147:59clean pocket. Number one in the NFL in completion rate, number two in yards or pass attempt when pressured. Number 30 in yards or pass attempt, number 30 in
148:07completion rate.
148:09Brian Flores in five matchups against Jordan Love has blitzed him 47% of the time. The last two matchups 53% and 48%
148:19when they've pressured Jordan Love. And this is even just last year. This is like the the full accompanying sample.
148:24Jordan Love's only completed 50% of his passes for 5.6 yards or pass attempt. It like again I like I would love to be I
148:32would love Jordan Love to Cadron Cook. I think he could be capable of doing it.
148:35Uh, I think they have enough talent as pass catcher and I think he's talented to do it, but like I'm not leaning into
148:40that being the most probable outcome. I feel a lot similar to like what we talked about Josh Allen with against the
148:45Texans on like a lower scale here.
148:48>> Yeah, that's I I'm with you. And I also think, you know, the the guy I'm probably I think the guy with the
148:55highest ceiling in the offense to me is Christian Watson. Um, I'm sure some people would say Matthew Golden, you know, first round pick, potential
149:04secondyear breakout, but, you know, Christian Watson was awesome last year coming off of injury, 2.28 yards per out run. He's also been awesome like in the
149:13past, you know, a really good rookie season. Um, you know, somewhat driven by by touchdowns and stuff, but he immediately produced and then, you know,
149:21he gets hurt, comes back, he's really efficient, and he was able to do that with an AOT of 17.4, four hit a 22%
149:29targets per out run despite an eight out of 17.4. So he he's kind of doing that Alec Pierce thing. Frankly, I think he's
149:35he's doing the Alec Pierce thing but better. You know, he's >> he's you know, able to draw targets and, you know, be really efficient while also
149:45like truly stretching the defense and creating space for his teammates. Um, and you know, that's awesome for them because they do like to run the ball and
149:53then they got some yak guys in and Tucker Craft and Jaden Reed. So, I think one thing you're like, well, how could
149:59Christian Watson's production improve?
150:01He's probably one of the guys, especially now another year removed from the injury. When you talk about playing your main guys more, he had 72% round
150:10participation last year. He it's such an obvious one to to play him a lot more.
150:16And like even even down the stretch, you know, in week 16, he was at 69%. Week 17 59% 84% in the playoff game. like get
150:24him up the high 80s into the 90s even.
150:27That would be huge for Christian Watson.
150:29But it's also something where I'm not sure he fits this matchup like great because are you getting 17 yards downfield, you know, before you're
150:38you're getting rid of the ball here against this blitz. Um I feel similarly about Golden. I think he'll probably have a a higher AOT as well. Uh Jaden
150:47Reed, maybe it could be okay for him.
150:50He's a lower AOT player. 9.58 out last year. But yeah, overall it's just like I'm not I'm not confident in love in
150:58this spot because of my respect for Flores. So, you know, it's a little bit it's like I I have the concentration of
151:05the offense. Like I I do believe with floor there that he'll he'll play these guys way more. Um the guy I'd be most
151:11excited about normally I think is Craft, but but you know, he's coming off an injury and I'm I'm not 100% sure what
151:18we're going to get from him in this first week. So, >> right. Uh, do any of these guys jump out to you, you know, on the Packer side as
151:25weapons? Are you interested in Lloyd? I mean, Lloyd should get at least a good amount of work.
151:29>> Yeah, it's it's real tough because you even talked about like uh the the volume that the Vikings faced last year.
151:35>> And the thing is is that they were still they were number one in they were like a lot like the Browns. Like they just
151:40faced a lot, but they were really good defending it still. Like they allowed the fewest fantasy points and yards per touch to running backs last year. And we
151:49still have a guy who's largely unproven, especially in pass protection. He was a really bad pass protector coming out of school. And I'm assuming not playing
151:55football didn't make him better at pass protection. Maybe, maybe it did. Um, and we just don't really know like are they
152:01going to be forced to throw? Like it's really tough to get a gauge on the back field and saying like to be bullish on
152:06even Lloyd. Uh, I think there are upcoming weeks while Jacobs is still this matters like unresolved or he's on the exempl list. You feel good. This is
152:14how I like wrote the pack. Like their schedule gets really good after like the next month, but like you just have one
152:19tough spot on the road here, right? Like it just we got to get through it.
152:23>> I think the the pass catchers you could play with lowered expectations. Reed, ironically, like two of his three highest scoring games of his career have
152:31come against Brian Flores. So like maybe the low eight out stuff and the creation he has like that that aids him in this
152:38regard. Um, I mean that's anything like you're not going to say like I'm going three for four here, but like maybe
152:43that's just an out if you were like on the fence. Like I you took Jaden Reed versus like maybe Josh DS or something,
152:49right? And like you're trying to break a tie.
152:52>> Yeah.
152:52>> Uh something like that. Maybe you break that. Like you're not elevating Jaden Reed like over dudes you took as wide
152:57receiver threes, right? Like >> No. No.
153:00>> So that's where we are, man. That's just where we are.
153:04>> Yeah. It's a tough one on the on the Viking side. um more optimistic. I mean, I was I've been kind of, you know, a bit
153:14of a Murray apologist this off season.
153:16And I mean, frankly, relative to the Murray opposition, I've been like super super correct because, you know, it's like you're never going to be a starter
153:25again was kind of the attitude. And it's like, no, he's definitely is. And then, uh, he goes to Minnesota. It's like,
153:30well, he's, you know, J.J. McCarthy is gonna be Oh, he is. JJ McCarthy's gonna beat him out.
153:35McCarthy stinks. And he stinks so bad that I was I was digging into this stuff from last year. I'm like, the way I try
153:43to frame it in the walkthrough is like, hey, imagine last year if the Vikings had had Bryce Young. That would have
153:50been a huge improvement on what they got from JJ McCarthy. Like it it it's the whole offense could have at least
153:59functioned. Like there's a huge difference when you look at guys like what McCarthy, what Zack Wilson has done over the years, frankly, what Cam Ward
154:07did last year with the Titans. You hope that, you know, he improves in year two, but you get these guys where they're
154:13playing the level of quarterback that you can't do anything with it. Like, it's impossible to work with. Then there's another level above that where
154:21it's like, this is frustrating and we're never going to get where we want to go with this guy, but it doesn't like kill
154:27us every week. And that's kind of where Bryce Young, you know, was last year and and probably will be again.
154:34>> Yeah.
154:35>> Kyler Murray was at level above that.
154:37Kyler Murray's efficiency last year was in line with Jaylen Herz's and it was a bad year for Herz, but it wasn't this
154:44like ultra awful season and he's been better than that typically. So, it's like, you know, McCarthy and uh or
154:54sorry, Murray and and Okonnell, I don't think are like a perfect marriage, but I do think Murray can provide like a
155:02massive boost from what McCarthy was uh providing. And I think he can be better than than what Carson Wentz was providing as well. And so, you you have
155:11everything else is here. You know, you've got Kevin Oonnell, you've got these weapons. Uh the bar is kind of low for for Kyler Murray. Like I don't think
155:20we need the best of Kyler Murray. I think we need Kyler Murray to be a little bit better than last year. And
155:26like we're cooking with gas here. It's it's kind of like hard for this like not to be at least like oh this look this is awesome you
155:36know like because because we're all so scarred by by what the Vikings were last year you know.
155:44>> Yeah. Kyler is at I'm very interested like the to see the full reveal uh finally happen because I'm curious to
155:50see like where the marriage is between what Kevin Oonnell has done and versus what Kyler Murray is good at. Uh because
155:57they're two very different things, right? Because he tried to make JJ McCarthy run his offense and it didn't work. And Kyler is also like a guy that
156:04doesn't play under center, doesn't rip throws over the middle of the field for group and he's he's not big like uh and
156:10I'm curious to see like what he acquies in the offense to do that. But uh the difference between Kyler and guys in the
156:16past that have like been in this bucket of like do we hold the candle still like Russell Wilson and Deshawn Watson is we
156:22didn't have to pay for it this year.
156:24Like that was my whole thing. I was like like why wouldn't you take a shot on Kyler Murray as like a QB2 in this range
156:30because like if he sucks who cares like you just get another dude you like but like the upside here is actually pretty
156:36significant. Uh, so like, >> well, you're drafting him, you're drafting Kyler behind guys he was literally more efficient than last year
156:44in a season he got benched and it's like, well, so you think Kyler's going to get worse with Kevin Oonnell, you
156:50know, like that it just Yeah, I I drafted a ton of Kyler Murray. I thought he was >> he was a smash. But
156:56>> but I do think one of the things that's going to change in this offense that could maybe bring that marriage together
157:02and it's actually I think been under reportported this off season is that the Minnesota Vikings brought in Frank Smith uh to be their offensive coordinator. Uh
157:10Frank Smith was the offensive coordinator and the run game coordinator under Mike McDaniel uh the last four years in Miami. Uh and the Minnesota
157:20offensive line they've just been snake bit like is a very good offensive line.
157:24Uh they are bringing a big-time emphasis on like the outside zone runs. This is where Jordan Mason is absolutely cooked.
157:30I mean the past two years uh he's 11th in yards per carry out of 69 running backs. So 100 more carries and yards per
157:36carry and outside zone, 13th in success rate, eighth in explosive run rate. I think they're going to be a way more
157:42runheavier team than they've been in the past because I also think Kevin Oonnell knows he can't ask Kyler Murray to do
157:50these things. I think he learned last year. So, how do you get to coax out the best of Kyler? I think they have to be a
157:56more balanced team, and I think they're going to run the ball a lot more than they have in previous years. Uh, and you
158:02know, you're going against this team now. The Packers, uh, aren't going to have a healthy Michael Parsons to start the year. Uh, they were really bad
158:08against the run without him last year.
158:10And not that he's he's way better pass rusher, too, uh, than he is a run defender. They're out Rashan Garry. Uh
158:16like so I would I could see this game like being like uh kind of slower and maybe uh more emp but again this is all
158:24like stuff like I'm projecting this. I'm I'm curious to see the reveal. Like I want to see the reveal. Yeah.
158:28>> But uh I I do think the Vikings have the look of a team that can effectively run the ball and probably wants to run the
158:35ball more because I think that's how you get the best out of Kyler Murray.
158:40That's interesting because I mean they're both backs were were pretty cheap in drafts this summer. I mean obviously Aaron Jones is an older back
158:49might be completely washed. I drafted a lot of him because he was like in the 120s 130s and I I you know looking at
158:56Jordan Mason's profile he has been kind of shockingly efficient. Like even last year he was in the 85th percentile in rush yards ever expected per game. Um
159:05which is like pretty damn impressive given how poor the offense was. However, he had a 3% target share that 0.32 yards
159:13per out run. He's just gonna offer nothing there. And I do think that Jones won't be like a true backup as a runner.
159:20I think he's going to be kind of a committee 1B runner, but he had a 13% target share. Still okay in the
159:28efficiency department, 1.07 yards per hour on that 60th percentile for a running back. So, a lot better than Mason. And I I I think I still prefer
159:37Jones this week as just like a PPR kind of scammier or play. But if >> from an upside perspective, I think you
159:44sold me on Mason as being like the dude, >> if they do bring in, you know, more of this uh zone running and more run
159:52heaviness that that would flow through Mason.
159:54>> I was basically handling Mason as a cleaner way to play for JK Dobbins.
160:01Like, >> yeah, >> I like that. That's like basically what I like said. Like you know what you're getting in terms of like he needs
160:08touchdowns for you. Like weeks you don't get touchdowns from him.
160:11>> He's not he's not just not gonna catch you passes, man. He's just not. No. And like so like Dobbins has always been
160:16going ahead of him, but then you're buying the injury history still and you know Dobbins had 37 receiving yards last year. So it's like I was like why don't
160:23I get the healthier guy has easier schedule and that. I actually was drafting Aaron Jones too for the because I think he's like a best of both worlds
160:30dudes because they don't want to give Aaron Jones the workload he had the last two years because he got he's gotten
160:35hurt he's at his age like he's gotten banged up like he's you know uh you know he missed five more games last year with
160:40you know hip shoulder toe and hamstring issues cuz he's they've had to extend his workload at different points of the last two years more than they wanted to.
160:48>> Um but he still can run too like he still can run as well and he's gonna catch up more passes than than Mason.
160:54And so I do think that that this I'm like I said, I think that this backfield can work. The offensive line obviously
160:59has to stay healthy. It's been a bugaboo for this team the past three years basically running now is keeping all these guys together, but I think that's
161:06how you get the best out of Kyler Murray, too. Uh so I'm intrigued by the offense, but like I said, I it's we
161:13haven't seen it yet, so I'm waiting for the reveal.
161:19>> Thoughts on Jefferson and Addison? I mean, obviously, you know, they're locked in as the top two guys.
161:24Jefferson's a superstar, but, you know, how optimistic are you for Jefferson to bounce back to what he was versus just
161:34not it being a total disaster like last year? Yeah, I'm I was willing to find out, but the fact that his ADP just like
161:42basically stayed the same, I was like, "Oh, we're not going to price any like like anything back into this like any
161:48like I don't know if I could do that either, right?" Like I like I am very optimistic, but I also wasn't like let's
161:53just draft him back to where he was pre like cuz that situation also doesn't exist cuz Kyler Murray has facilitated one player for fantasy football as a
162:02pass catcher and it's DeAndre Hopkins and that was literally just outside the numbers in a Cliff Kingsbury offense throwing like hitches and go routes. Uh
162:10Justin Jefferson is is good enough to do stuff like that, but like Justin Jefferson since he's entered the NFL on this offense, like the dude is a middle
162:17of the field murderer. like he's he's killing on digs, posts, all that play action stuff that Kevin Oonnell runs.
162:24Like there's a reason he had his best stretch of fantasy games last year with Carson Wentz because Carson Wentz will rip those throws for better or worse.
162:32>> JJ McCarthy will not rip those throws.
162:34I'm hesitant to know if Kyler Murray's going to rip those throws. So, I I'm very interested in the talent of Justin
162:40Jefferson. I think that it can work out.
162:42I was just not paying like the full price again. Uh but I have him.
162:47>> What about Trey McBride? I mean, Trey McBride had, you know, uh, 111 receptions in 2024 >> with 146 yards.
162:55>> Getting getting like tight end scheme stuff versus a number one receiver is is is different.
163:01>> It is, but I'm saying, you know, it is also more over the middle of the field.
163:06He had 15.2 points per game, which is disappointing for Jefferson, but >> he's running stuff like uh, you know, interior hitches, like mesh and stuff
163:14like that, and like that's just not what Jefferson's going to be doing, right?
163:17Like uh it's the same reason why like >> I I was definitely into Brock Bowers cooking in this offense, but like when
163:23people were just saying like Brock Bowers is going to be Jax with the jig, I was like no, he's not they're not
163:28going to do you can't ask him to do the Jackson with the jig with thing as good as Brock Powers is like. Right. It's the
163:34same thing.
163:34>> It was more conceptually that's Yeah. Um so I'm curious to see how the marriage will work out. Uh I want Justin
163:42Jefferson to be good. I hope he I hope he smashes. Do you think Addison fits any better with Kyler or not?
163:47>> Not really. Uh but >> I I think these guys are good football players though. So I was in on the the
163:54Addison's Price a little bit because of where he was going.
163:56>> Yeah.
163:57>> Um because I do think he's a good football player. I mean I even go back to college when everyone when Kenny Pick
164:01was going the first round. I just remember watching every Kenny Pick. I was like, "Oh, that dude's pretty good.
164:05The receiver he just bo like that guy's pretty good." Like, so I was drafting it down because he was going like in the
164:12wide like wide receiver 45 and stuff like again like I'll just throw darts on dudes I think are good at football at a
164:18certain point.
164:19>> Just just to you know free advice to NFL teams. If you signal openly that you're going to take a quarterback in the first
164:25round and then don't feel the need to trade up for that player because everyone knows that you're taking them and they're actually cool with it and
164:32hope you do. Maybe don't maybe don't take him.
164:38But I probably won't play like Jefferson and DFS. Uh >> okay.
164:43>> I don't think so. I mean there like I said like we we talked about so many guys in like just really good spots at
164:48the top that have a little more confidence in. But I would love to get like a reveal that like we could start
164:52treating him as like a locked in wide receiver one. Again, >> that's one of those ones we talked about the information not burning us. I could
164:58see not playing Jefferson and being like, "Oh, the answer was Jefferson."
165:03>> Yeah, it's true. you know. So, that's one where I'm if I don't end up with the Jefferson lineup, I'm going to be
165:09probably pretty nervous about it. Um, all right, final game, Commanders at Eagles. Uh, we've got two new offensive
165:17coordinators in this game facing off. I don't know if it's sort of an equal match. should seem, you know, one one
165:26guy has been getting a lot of positive buzz and the other guy has been getting uh beat writers saying it's, you know,
165:32the worst offense they've ever seen. So, thoughts on, let's start with kind of the new offenses for both teams. What are your thoughts there?
165:41>> Yeah, these are very curious situations, right? you're asking two quarterbacks that we just haven't seen play under center and uh I don't have either of
165:48these guys like high school data but like I assume that they weren't really under center in high school either given the type of quarterback athletes they
165:54are. Uh and you got to be really nervous I think for the commander side at least the open year I've I've like kind of
166:00labeled them like if it works if this ends up working it's going to be like last year's Jaguars and maybe you're not
166:06going to have that kind of pop but I think it's going to take time. This is gonna need stuff in the oven because you
166:11have the tonsil injury in play.
166:13>> They go at Philadelphia, at Dallas, and then Seattle the first three weeks of the year. Like >> I mean like how are you how are you
166:22supposed to be like bullish on like this the layout there? Uh then like the back end of the season they have like all
166:27these cupcakes like Cardinals, Titans, Falcons. Like >> it could look a lot better with at the end of the line, but I think it's going
166:33to be really turbulent to open up here.
166:35Uh, and this is another team, too. Like, how long?
166:37>> It could get that could make things more turbulent because Dan Quinn's not like, does he get to those cupcake matchups?
166:44>> Yeah, it could be. Um, but it's like they're another team that when we talk about the Bengals, like they want to do
166:51this, but can they stick stick with doing it?
166:54>> Yeah.
166:54>> You know, given the state of the offense of the line, >> should they stick with doing it?
166:57>> Yeah. Yeah. Right. Should they even be trying it >> right >> like right now? Uh, so I think it's gonna be a bumpy ride. It's hard to have
167:06any faith in this matchup. Uh, with a committee backfield, like we're not expecting to be able to run the ball in
167:12this matchup. You know, healthy Jaylen Carter. This team was awesome. The secondary is awesome for the Eagles. The one weakness the Eagles had last year
167:20was cornerback two was terrible and now they added Reek Woolen. So, like it's not even like a hole anymore. Maybe now
167:27losing Reed Blankenship opened some stuff up. Uh, but like who's taking advantage of that here? So, with the tonsil injury, the matchup, them being
167:36on the road, I I don't have confidence in any of these guys, man.
167:41>> Yeah.
167:43Yeah, I feel you. I mean, the one guy I think I'm I'm two guys I'm actually most intrigued by in this um matchup are
167:52Jakori Kroski Merritt. um more from a seasonl long perspective where it's like I'm willing to take the leap uh with him
168:01and Chica Conquo. Again, more from a seasonl long perspective. But the reason that those two guys jump out to me, it's
168:07not really anything to do with the matchup. It's just that the way I think I win is that they have bigger roles
168:14>> than they were kind of priced to have where, you know, Bill was was talked up um towards the end of camp as being kind
168:22of having done enough as a as a pass catcher where they don't feel like he's just such an obvious he's here to run
168:29the ball type of player. And it just he needs to be a plausible threat in the receiving game. And they don't even need
168:34to throw to him like hardly ever. But he can't he needs to be able to be on the field when there are drop passes.
168:40>> Yeah. There are passes.
168:41>> Yeah.
168:42>> Yeah. And that is not where he was last year. It was it was a real problem. He had 36% of the team attempts. He had 39%
168:51of the team snaps. You know, he's not he just wasn't getting uh 25% route uh route participation was 25%.
169:00>> So, he just wasn't running routes. 3% target share. Uh they they need to get him up to where they can at least
169:07threaten that a little bit. It sounds like they have or at least they're optimistic that they have. Maybe he'll pull a Tyrone Tracy and we'll never see
169:15him again uh after week one. But, you know, for now, I think I'm I'm I'm hopeful that he is going to have a much
169:25bigger role and he's an explosive runner, so you can kind of get there with him just like, "Oh, oh, damn."
169:31Like, he's he's like a clear-cut starting running back. That's awesome.
169:35And then Chiga Conquo has been a part-time tight end his entire career.
169:40He was at 64% round participation last year. They could really use him as a third receiving weapon. and they were talking him up in a big way before the
169:50dig signing. Obviously, that's going to hurt his targets, but I don't think it hurts his routes and uh you know, he
169:57could be out there 75%. Could you get it, you know, kind of a 10% bump from the mid60 to mid70s, maybe even into the
170:0380% range? That would really that's sort of a different type of player when you get a tight end who is a pass catcher
170:11and he's running 75% rout participation, something like that. um you're kind of drafting him with with the idea that maybe he's in the 60s, he ends up being
170:20in the high 70s. You kind of just win on that and then you hope obviously that variance goes your way with, you know,
170:27the way these these matchups don't tell us everything, right? So that those two guys just because of the role uncertainty I'm intrigued by, but it's
170:34it's not because they're playing the Eagles defense. That's that is not ideal.
170:39>> No, no. I mean, this is another team, 20 point team total. Road Dogs. Do we even get the 20?
170:45>> Um, right. This this will go a long way though if David Blau does do some things that are creative. Uh, you know, gets
170:50Terry McLaren targets that are away from Quinn Yan Mitchell. I thought Brian Flurry on the Thursday night game did an amazing job with Jackson Smith and Jigba
170:58in that game because he had all but one catch against someone that wasn't Christian Gonzalez. Like they were moving in the back field and I I don't
171:04think you can do those types of things with Terry McLaren. But, you know, one of the initial quotes when David Blau
171:09took that job was like, "How do I get Terry McLaren 10 targets per game?"
171:12Well, against Quinan Mitchell in this in this Eagles defense, like buddy, you put to the test right away.
171:17>> I would also say that's bearish because in offseason, you're supposed to be getting guys 20 targets a game.
171:23>> Yeah.
171:24>> So, the fact that he only said 10 worries me a little, >> but Terry's had no success in this matchup. I mean, uh, he does have two
171:33touchdowns in the five games the past two years, but he he has his highest receiving yards in this matchup, 60 yards. Uh, fewer than five catches in in
171:40all but one. Five was max. He's had three or fewer catches in three of the five matchups. Just it's tough, man.
171:47Quinn Mitchell's that good. It's the same thing. It's >> Yep. Uh Eagle side. I'm I'm Sean Manion's been one of the guys that I've
171:56been excited about this off season. Uh I have a lot of Jaylen Herz. Uh I've drafted Saquon Barkley. Mai Lemon's my
172:05highest drafted player. Um, I don't anticipate him having a huge role this week, but I'm excited about what he could look like when he gets up to speed
172:12for sure. Uh, but with the idea that Mai Lemon's going to play a more limited role this week. And I'm not that
172:20impressed with Dantavian Wix. I know he had that that fun rookie season back in what, 2022, 2023. Um, but he hasn't been super
172:29efficient. Yeah, it was 2023. He hasn't been super efficient in 2024, 2025.
172:34uh you know be the number two outside wide receiver. But I think when you look at the way things will probably go for
172:42as long as Wixs is like the number two guy, I think that's just good for Smith, for Devonte Smith, like the offense
172:48running through him more. Um and this is a Commander defense that like they were a get-right spot for bad, you know, or for struggling offenses. I
173:00mean, the the the Lions when they, you know, couldn't seem to figure stuff out on offense like, "Oh, we're playing the
173:06Commanders. We're good." You know, it's just like they were so slow and really, really poor last year.
173:14Uh, new DC, so so maybe things pick up a bit, but I do think that the Eagles could be really efficient here. Uh, I
173:24think they could get Saquon Barkley rolling. I think they could be doing some some fun, you know, passing game stuff off that, some of the play action
173:31stuff off of that and I think it could be really effective. So, Goddard, Devonte Smith, and Barkley, you know, the kind of the key pieces right out of
173:40the gate here all jump out is pretty interesting plays where I I think, you know, the Eagles favored at home. I I
173:49think they're going to deliver on that.
173:51uh given this defensive matchup >> they have the opposite of what we talked about with you know David Blau's layout they have you know this if there if
173:59there are like if there is a learning curve for Jaylen Herz you know playing this offense and acclamation period and you know we've already heard the
174:05whispers this offseason like people are now starting to look at him for all these coordinator changes they're saying wait the one common denominator has been
174:13this quarterback that's also won us a Super Bowl and gotten us to another one >> well that's a I mean Herz is
174:19>> Herz is a tough one because he clearly has weaknesses and he's like he is limited in kind of the things you can
174:26ask him to do. But like >> blaming him for offensive coordinator changes is kind of hard when like >> why did Stiken leave cuz Oh, cuz he got
174:35a head coaching job.
174:36>> He got a head coaching job. Yeah.
174:37>> Well, so did Kell Moore.
174:38>> Yeah, that's true. Yeah. Milton Moore, too.
174:41>> Pull was just bad.
174:42>> Then Padilla was bad. And who was the other guy? Brian Johnson. They were both just bad.
174:45>> Yeah. Brian Johnson.
174:46>> Yeah. So >> they got no other jobs.
174:48>> They got no other jobs. So he's either has had two guys who got head coaching jobs and still have those jobs or guys
174:54who didn't get other jobs. So >> yeah, that's true.
174:57>> I'm like that seems like a pretty unfair framing that he's constantly getting new OC's.
175:03>> But they if there is like an acclamation period like they have the layout commanders, titans, bears to like kind of work through like any type of you
175:11know they have they have like a lot of leeway, right? like the the the air band is a lot wider than it is probably for
175:17the commanders to open the year. Uh >> for sure.
175:20>> So yeah, >> I I definitely think though the as this is like coming together, the most obvious thing is like we're going to
175:29>> have Saquon Barkley like we're just gonna we're gonna have Saquon Barkley, right? And we're going to be our defense plus Saquon Barkley can is going to let
175:37this thing come together, right? Like so I think they're going to swerve into the run uh while still like doing some of
175:43the stuff they want to do because all again all the stuff that that Manion probably wants to do is predicated off
175:48of playing under center and doing stuff.
175:50Um and the offensive line's healthy right now. Uh the guys went and got stem cell uh in in Europe this yeah Jurgens
175:59and Dickerson went to uh forget where they went but they definitely went and got injections overseas. Uh, so you've got you've got Saquon fresh again and
176:08Saquon still like like we knew there was going to be regression and it takes a lot of pulling parts to like have that
176:15type of regression and he still had 1,400 yards and 19 touch and nine touchdowns like like >> it's not like this dude was a complete
176:22bomb like it just what you paid for and where the expectations level were coming off of his 2024 like you felt
176:28disappointed. But he played one game against Washington last year 130 yards and a touchdown. Like I think they're going to be able to run the ball here
176:35even with the additions Washington's made. I think there's still a lot of question marks. Uh Dofawa and uh Kavon Chasan have been injured. They are
176:44they're probable to play. It looks like they were limited in practice, but you know, Sunny Styles uh they added um like
176:50it's it's still a spot where you just look at the Eagles being home favorites.
176:55They they have this to lean on, right?
176:57And it makes me just bullish to say like Saquon's in a really good spot. like we should be a little bullish on him too.
177:04>> I agree. Yeah, I think Saquin I mean that's like one of the things it I've called Kevin Patulo a Kell Moore cover
177:10band where like he just tried to do all the same stuff but it was so much less effective.
177:15>> Yeah. And I think my hope with Manion in part is that he can do different stuff that will have a similar effect to what
177:26Kellen Moore was doing where you know he understands like what the end result should look like >> and you know Patula just felt more like
177:34yeah okay so you just run the ball a ton with Saquon Barkley and you know be predictable and it'll all work out.
177:44It's like, no, you have to stay ahead of the competition, but you've got some real advantages u with a, you know, the offensive line
177:51and Barkley and and these weapons and a quarterback who does some stuff really well. You know, he's far from a perfect
177:58quarterback, but he's, you know, you've got clear advantages with Herz, you know, as well as some things you have to work around. So, uh, I I think this
178:06offense can can really like obviously not every single offense that we're excited to to rebound this year, uh, or take a step forward will do so. Um, but
178:16some of them are going to in some really exciting ways. And the Eagles are on the short list of of teams that could just
178:22be a big time bounce back um after after a down season last year.
178:28>> Yeah, for sure.
178:28>> To your point, Barkley was still pretty good. Yeah, I mean it's just, you know, versus expectations, you know, it's you
178:34have that. He had one of those years, man. I was thinking that was going to be a JSN thing, but uh it is not it is not
178:41going to crush again.
178:42>> 50% target share right away like right where we left off.
178:47>> And I thought they did a great job. I thought just creatively using him. I was very impressed by cuz cuz that touchdown
178:54that JSN had, I didn't even know he had that in his bag >> to be honest. Like I didn't know if he
178:59was a guy you could give a four yard reception to and he's just gonna burn past everyone on defense. I didn't
179:04>> Yeah.
179:04>> I was like [ __ ] if he's gonna start doing stuff like that. Like it's just inevitable, bro.
179:08>> I know.
179:09>> And it was it was fun too cuz he just he stayed like just ahead of everyone. Like it wasn't like you know it wasn't like
179:14watching Tyreek where it's like he's gone. He was like oh he's going to get caught. Is he not he's not going to get
179:19caught.
179:19>> Nope. He's not caught.
179:20>> It's sort of an optical illusion.
179:22>> Yeah. So >> but hey, you know that's you don't have to be. You need to be just a little bit
179:26faster. That's enough. So, I mean, yeah, he's he's gonna nuke. He's gonna nuke.
179:30>> Yeah, I'm with you though. Just you played Devonte. I I'm more bullish on Seaquan on the spot, but Herz, you're
179:35starting obviously Devonte, you're starting. I think you're starting Goddard.
179:39>> Yeah, agreed. Yeah, I think this this is a good one for God.
179:42>> Lemon, you're probably waiting and seeing.
179:44>> I'm waiting and seeing. I mean, I think if I'm waiting and seeing uh and I ended up I think on DraftKings, I ended up
179:48around 50% on Lemon because I did a lot of my volume. What you're hoping for with Lemon, at least these first two
179:55weeks, is he's getting mixed in against the Commanders and Titans, like games they should win and control. And then by the time you get to week three where you
180:03have this run where they play the Bears, the Rams, the Jaguars, and the Eagles are getting push, he's he's gotten that
180:10like acclamation period. He's starting to play more, and he's starting involved, and you see more of him like these weeks.
180:17>> Yeah, I I would be totally fine if he's running. I mean, first of all, I do think that he's going to run routes.
180:24>> Yeah, absolutely.
180:25>> He's like there's sort of this weird thing and I I feel this way more so than in years past where
180:32>> we got like really focused on routes this off season about like who's the number one, who's the number two. Like
180:39the number one and number two receivers aren't necessarily the guys who run the very most routes. It's the guys who get
180:46the most targets, >> right? And you know, there's so like Wixs can be the number two outside wide receiver for
180:56the Eagles and very quickly not be the number two wide receiver for the Eagles, you know, because Mai Lemon can just
181:04earn targets at a much higher rate. Like you could have a 14% targets per out run for Dantavian Wixs and a 21% targets per
181:12run for Mai Lemon. Like air outs ain't doing it at that point, you know? So that's where you know I I do think that
181:20like what what do you think Jan Datson's route participation was last year?
181:26>> Uh she geez I'm trying to think what was it was high though right because they were they they did run a lot of 11
181:31personnel was probably at least 75 right >> it was 71%.
181:35>> Okay.
181:36>> If you're telling me that Mai Lemon is at 65% >> right >> I'm stoked you know and I think and but
181:42I'm not like surprised either. I'm just like great we did it. Yeah, I still think it'll be higher than that. I I
181:47think these first two weeks the setup is to like they're going to probably control these games >> and you might not have like the super
181:53drop back rate. They're like getting almost like extended practice to to do some of these passing concepts.
182:00>> And then when they have to >> they're going to have to score points weeks three, four, and five. Like for
182:05sure. like they're gonna have to. Yeah.
182:07Uh and then you know that's when you get the where the 65 to 72% route rate is actually coming along with like actual
182:18high route numbers because they're growing more >> and Yeah. And then the targets per route runs really starting to shine through.
182:24>> Yeah. And at that point as well, you know, somewhere in there, you're hoping that, you know, kind of like Garrett
182:31Wilson early in his his rookie season, you're like, "Oh, this guy can play."
182:37And then, you know, you don't have he got kind of quiet again. And you know, these rookie wide receivers like you're
182:45you're taking him more for the end of the season. But I'm I'm thinking that Lemon I the Lemon stuff has been truly
182:52truly strange to me where he has continued to fall even after the hamstring injury kind of resolved and you know he'll like I said I mean I
183:01think he's going to run 60% plus of the route 65% maybe 70% plus like he's going to be out there plenty and I think he's
183:09really good so you know I'm going to get a chance to evaluate that see what we have you know for season long purposes
183:16But like you're saying, the matchups get tougher. Hopefully he pops off at that point. I am just waiting and seeing.
183:21It's a factf finding sort of situation with Lemon. But I'm also not playing Wix. I mean, I don't know what kind of
183:28league you'd be in, but like >> he was more baseball and stuff anyway, but >> yeah, >> you know, I I do think that the I think
183:37for now it's Smith. Like Smith is going to be the guy. They're going to run it through Smith. I expect Smith to produce
183:42quite well.
183:44>> Um >> Yeah. I think people forget like how good Devonte Smith was as a prospect like as a prospect was like incredible
183:51and you know was in offensive he played next to AJ Brown.
183:54>> Yeah. And I don't have a ton of Smith in best ball stuff because it's expensive and it's and again I'm thinking about
184:01what does the end of the season look like? But for for DFS >> to me these are the weeks, right? like
184:06if if >> you know if you do think Lemon's going to have a bigger role down the stretch, then the weeks when he hasn't fully
184:13established himself are kind of your money weeks for for Devonte Smith. So, he's someone I I also like this week in
184:18addition to Barkley. I I could see him being a big time alpha this week.
184:24>> 100%.
184:25>> All right, man.
184:27>> Think we did it.
184:28>> Kept you longer than you wanted.
184:29>> Yeah. So, no. Well, the the the concerning part is not that I missed my heart out an hour and 15 minutes ago.
184:36It's that I would have missed it if we started when we said we were going to.
184:43It's not that we went over. That's fine.
184:45I rearranged some stuff. It's that we that I'm worried about when we have another hour to work with that we're still going to go over. So,
184:53>> we'll get it we'll get it a little tighter.
184:55>> We try >> next week hopefully.
184:57>> The thing is we don't [ __ ] around though. It's it's just saying we have a lot to say, man. A lot to say.
185:01>> We got a lot to say. We did a lot of writing. We want to talk about it. Uh tell the people about the worksheet and
185:06what you got going on. Sharp football analysis.
185:09>> Yeah. Writing up every game every week at Sharp Football Analysis. If you guys like the if you guys like that uh kind
185:15of analysis that we drop on the show.
185:16>> I hope you do because you're listening.
185:19>> And if we didn't somehow touch if we somehow didn't touch on a player or an angle, we probably did write about it.
185:26So, uh, you know, definitely check that stuff out. Uh, and I'm just excited to see like the these week one, uh,
185:32reveals, man. Like, and very excited to watch these games.
185:35>> Um, and then work on some actual stuff that we can over or underreact to next week, >> 100%. Uh, check out the the walkthrough
