Bryce Lance

NegativeProjection26:10

Despite being an elite athlete (6'4", 205 lbs, 4.34 40-yard dash, 41-inch vertical), Bryce Lance remains a developmental vertical X-receiver prospect who needs significant work before earning regular snaps. Matt Harmon notes his poor college success rates (40th percentile vs. man, 18th vs. zone, 37th vs. press) and argues he is not yet ready for an X-receiver role.

Insight page

DeAndre Hopkins

NegativeProjection10:42

Matt Harmon uses DeAndre Hopkins as a ceiling comparison for Jacobe Lane, specifically regarding the ability to win contested catches despite not being an elite separator.

Insight page

Demarcus Robinson

NegativeDepth Chart34:05

Matt Harmon views Demarcus Robinson as the primary backup to Mike Evans at the X-receiver position, noting the team is pleased with his progress and he has prior experience playing the X-role for the Rams.

Insight page

Devaughn Vele

PositiveValue27:13

Matt Harmon identifies Devaughn Vele as a 'boring' but correct late-round pick, ranking him as WR72. Vele is viewed as a reliable power slot receiver who is more ready to contribute immediately than developmental rookies like Bryce Lance. His ADP has risen 34 spots to 193, and he is considered a safer floor play than high-variance rookies, as he is unlikely to provide zero-point weeks.

Insight page

Jake Bobo

NegativeInjury28:48

Matt Harmon confirms that Jake Bobo is out for the entire season due to injury.

Insight page

Jauan Jennings

NegativeRole35:12

Matt Harmon uses Jauan Jennings' role as the benchmark for Dejon Stribbling, projecting Stribbling to operate as a power slot/Z-receiver in the offense.

Insight page

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

PositiveProjection30:53

Matt Harmon expects Jaxon Smith-Njigba to be highly productive again this year, noting that his continued success is vital for the Seahawks' offensive efficiency. While Harmon acknowledges JSN recorded the highest target share for a receiver in the last decade, he suggests that while he will remain productive, his target share may regress from that extreme level.

Insight page

Jayden Higgins

NegativeInjury15:00

Jaden Higgins is out for the year after suffering an ACL injury, creating a vacancy in the Texans' wide receiver depth chart.

Insight page

Jerry Jeudy

NegativeValue28:13

Matt Harmon notes that Jerry Jeudy is being avoided by the draft community, currently sitting as the WR80. Harmon expresses concern regarding his role as potentially the fourth option in a Cleveland offense with a poor quarterback situation.

Insight page

Jordan Watkins

NegativeRole36:58

Matt Harmon notes that Jordan Watkins' role within the team's wide receiver depth chart remains unclear.

Insight page

Jordan Whittington

PositiveInjury38:43

Whittington is expected to miss a couple of months due to a recurring hamstring injury. Matt Harmon advises against drafting him in redraft leagues unless an IR spot is available, suggesting he is only a viable target in best ball formats where he can be insulated by a complementary receiver room.

Insight page

Kayshon Boutte

NegativeDepth Chart15:03

Kayshon Boutte is mentioned as a potential candidate to step into the role vacated by Jaden Higgins following a trade to the Texans.

Insight page

Marquez Valdes-Scantling

NegativeProjection7:37

Matt Harmon uses Marquez Valdes-Scantling as an archetype comparison for Jacobe Lane. Harmon notes that Lane could serve as a 'designated X receiver' for the Ravens, profiling similarly to Valdes-Scantling but possessing superior hands and catching ability, which Harmon describes as 'tractor beam hands.'

Insight page

Nico Collins

PositiveValue11:18

Matt Harmon identifies Nico Collins as one of his favorite second-round picks in fantasy football. While the team prefers to keep him at the X-receiver spot, Harmon notes that even a slight increase in Z-receiver usage would take Collins to the 'absolute moon' in terms of production.

Insight page

Rashid Shaheed

PositiveValue51:51

Matt Harmon identifies Rashid Shaheed as a 'screaming value' in fantasy drafts. Harmon projects Shaheed to play more snaps than Cooper Kupp this season, noting that while Kupp remains valuable as a blocker, the team requires more production from their wide receiver group.

Insight page

Rashod Bateman

NegativeUsage3:16

Matt Harmon notes that while Rashod Bateman is an excellent separator and route runner, he has never been a consistent ball winner for the Ravens. Bateman runs a very low percentage of his snaps from the slot. His current fantasy outlook is further complicated by uncertainty regarding his legal situation and potential suspension, which has contributed to the rising ADP of teammate Jacobe Lane.

Insight page

Sterling Shepard

NegativeDepth Chart9:19

Sterling Shepard is identified as a potential depth option for the Texans following the injury to Jaden Higgins, with Matt Harmon jokingly including him as a candidate to fill that role.

Insight page

Tank Dell

NegativeBust9:32

Matt Harmon advises against drafting Tank Dell, stating he is likely not ready to contribute early in the 2026 season due to the severity of his 2024 injury. Harmon believes his current ADP as the WR70 is too high and suggests crossing him off the draft board entirely.

Insight page

Tory Horton

NegativeInjury28:48

Matt Harmon likes Tory Horton's game but expresses concern regarding his health, noting that he is dealing with an injury of unknown duration and is unlikely to be available for significant portions of the season.

Insight page

Xavier Hutchinson

NegativeRole10:18

Matt Harmon notes that Xavier Hutchinson will play a significant number of snaps as a role player and blocker, but explicitly states he is not a fantasy factor.

0:00What's cracking everybody? James Co, Matt Harmon, your boys from Reception Perception the show. We are doing best ball content, baby. Let's go. Today
0:08we're talking about five trendy wide receivers and whether our guy Matt Harmon is buying or selling.
0:16>> Look at the release.
0:17>> There's your separation. Start and go.
0:20Gets by clean.
0:20>> That is unbelievable.
0:22>> May be the greatest catch I've ever seen.
0:26Got to start there in Baltimore, Matt, because I tell you what, man. This guy, Jacobe Lane, oh my goodness gracious.
0:33You You cannot go a single day without seeing a Jacobe Lane highlight uh pop up on the timeline. Buy or sell Jacobe Lane
0:42at cost right now. Yeah, right now DraftKings ADP wide receiver 61 149th overall ADP for Jacobe Lane on
0:52DraftKings right now. And you know, when we're talking about buying Jacobe Lane at the 61st overall wide receiver spot, I think that's definitely a buy. Um,
1:03specifically in a best ball format for Jacobe Lane because I think this is the right format for him. Um, now if we're
1:10talking more dynasty, long-term, what's the ceiling or even like in a reddraft setting, I think that's obviously a part of it. uh different conversation, but
1:20specifically for best baseball, specifically on DraftKings basketball, I do think yeah, Jacobe Lane actually makes for a pretty decent buy here. Now,
1:27before we show some of the reception perception charts and metrics and everything like that, I do just want to say, James, am I not completely right
1:35about my theory about which type of receivers get crazy hype from training camp? It's [laughter] always these big It's always the contested catch, guys.
1:44It is like Jacobe Lane is 100% validating me right now.
1:48>> Yeah. No, 100%. Now, I will say this, it's not just the highlight bias. Again, he I think he showed out uh pretty good
1:56uh in in game type situations, but I think really what is driving the price here is the fact that Rashad Baitman is
2:04in trouble with the law and could potentially be facing a suspension here as well. So, when you get those two things like coming together, you've got
2:13some serious hype. And as a matter of fact, we're talking about Jacobe Lane.
2:17This guy has moved up 85 draft positions since the game's inception. So, we're talking, you know, again, six, seven rounds. Uh, Jacobe Lane has moved up.
2:28So, again, buy or sell this exciting rookie out of USC.
2:33>> Oh, no. I mean, I think the Baitman part of this is an interesting wrinkle. I don't know, you know, I was reading um
2:41Drew Davenport is not just a great uh salary cap draft analyst, he's also uh you know, he's a lawyer in his real job.
2:48He does these great threads [laughter] when guys get in in trouble about like FF legal update. Essentially, Drew was saying he doesn't think
2:56>> that right now. And obviously, you know, you never know, these are sensitive subjects, sensitive situations. He doesn't think Baitman's availability
3:02will be impacted for the 2026 season, but that still adds to the intrigue of course for a guy like Jacobe Lane who I
3:10think Baitman aside does fit in for a clear need with the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver room. And when it comes to
3:18Jacobe Lane from a reception perception standpoint, I mean, this is not a guy who is a separator. You know, there's no
3:24question about that. As you're seeing on the route charts right now, not a guy that consistently gets open across the field. second percentile success rate
3:31verse man, seventh percentile success rate verse zone, seventh percentile success rate verse press. Now, he does show an ability to win on some of these
3:41outbreaking routes, right? You're seeing the out route success rate is within the prospect average. I actually thought he was pretty impressive dropping his
3:49weight and winning on comebacks. 81.8% success rate is interesting. And if you think about what I imagine Jacobe Lane is going to be is as an ex receiver for
3:59this team. Um, and when you think about like an offense Declan Doyle coming from the Ben Johnson, even Shawn Peyton coaching tree, they like to use these
4:08condensed formations, specifically the Bears last year, use a lot of these condensed formations. So that exceiver is outside on the ball, but in a
4:18condensed space like that, there's more room towards the sideline. So, I think where Jacobe Lane did show an ability to separate on the outs and the comebacks,
4:27that does fit with like an exceiver who's going to be in those condensed uh looks and everything like that, but my
4:32theory on and again the Baitman part of this is is again his availability is a is a question. There's no no doubt about
4:38that. But my theory on the Jacobe Lane thing is that he could almost be like a designated ex receiver for this team,
4:45James, because I do think right now it's an incomplete profile. If he's going to be a high volume player in the long run,
4:52he is going to need to be a better separator than this. Like I wrote up in the profile that right now based on the
4:57player he was in college, >> he could be like a MVS but with better hands because we are bearing the lead
5:04here. I mean, he has truly some of the most absurd hands and catching ability I've seen of any prospect the last few
5:11classes.
5:12>> I I I know you have seen a lot of him, you know, watching Pack 12 or whatever it is now these days football over
5:18there, USC. Um, and he has like I wrote in the profile his tractor beam hands.
5:23So, like MVS, but actually catches the ball. Sacrificial excever type. That's a pretty good player and something that um the Baltimore Ravens sorely needed
5:33because like they've had to play Rashad Baitman is one of the few receivers who's run you know like some of the
5:39lowest percentage of his snaps out of the slot. He's talked about in camp moving around the formation. We know Zay Flowers is a guy that want to move
5:46around the formation. Well, if you're going to do that stuff, you need to bring on somebody who's gonna be on ball
5:52outside on the line of scrimmage and I think that is Jacobe Lane. So, he's going to play a big role with this team.
5:58No, no matter Baitman's availability or not, I think he's going to play a big role for this team. Check there. He is
6:04not a complete player, but has a trump card trait in his ability to win at the catch point. Tractor beam hands.
6:11Checkpoint there. Uh, he's tied to a good quarterback in an offense that I'm really intrigued with. Check mark there.
6:18and oh, he can't really separate at a high level, which might be questionable about him being a long-term wide receiver starter. Don't really care when
6:27we're talking about the 64th or 61st wide receiver [laughter] off the board in best ball format specifically. So, at that ADP, even with my long-term
6:36questions about Lane, which, you know, maybe he proves me wrong, totally open to that, >> I'm buying at that ADP here. I would
6:42love to see Jacobe Lane develop into a obviously a better route runner, but like almost like a DeAndre Hopkins nuke uh Hopkins type of ex receiver, you
6:53know, like if we're going to go like let's win downfield. Let's uh let's be able to catch those contested ball. I
6:59just he has a special ability to go up there and snag a football much like Nuke Hopkins did. And he didn't again
7:06necessarily separate at the highest levels. But look, I I and I get it, Matt. Like I, you know, DeAndre is a
7:13totally different level when we're talking about a route runner, but I'd love to see that level of uh of development from Jacobe Lane.
7:21>> Yeah, I think that's it's so funny like sometimes you watch Jacobe Lane and again, I wrote this in in the profile,
7:27so this is all stuff I've said about him. At times I almost wondered if he not that he wasn't trying to separate,
7:34but if he almost just like he knew that he >> I don't think he cares. It's like I he's like, I know I'm going to get this ball
7:40regardless because his quarterback would truly just throw that thing up to him and he knew he was going to get that
7:45football even if he wasn't open because he can definitely run. I mean, you see >> um like that ability to sink his hips on
7:51comeback routes and he had a pretty good 40 time um his couple plays in the preseason where he's run some of these
7:57big inb breaking routes. So yeah, maybe there's more to him than what meets the eye from the USC tape perspective. And
8:02he was a guy that had a lot of hype prior to that final season when Mai Lemon kind of came in there and stole
8:07that wide receiver one title. So yeah, like I don't want to totally discount Jacobe Lane just because uh he did there's no doubt he struggled to
8:15separate or he did not separate in that final season. Uh but maybe there's more to meets the eye there. I'm I'm very
8:21much open to that. He's not somebody that just I mean you know me I'm not this way anyways but he even generally
8:26I'm not just like oh bunch of red routes cross him off the list. No I actually think these [laughter] play pretty I
8:31mean listen the Ravens need a even if he is just a ball winner the Ravens desperately need a ball winner because
8:36you know obviously I love Z Flowers. Not really that guy at his dimensions.
8:42Baitman's an awesome separator and a route runner but he's never been really like a consistent ball winner. Um the tight ends hit Mark Andrews hit or miss
8:50there. like they kind of need this guy almost no matter what.
8:52>> Uh we're talking about a dude who is 6'4 uh has a 44740 and a 40inch vertical.
8:58The athleticism is there for sure. Okay.
9:00In Houston, Jaden Higgins ACL, he is now out for the year. Uh the Texans just traded for Kahan Booty. I've been big on
9:09Jaylen Null. Hey, and listen, RP specialist, RP goat, Sterling Shepard is right next to Let's go. Let's go. Okay, so you look at those three wide
9:19receivers. Um, I'm only half joking on Sterling Shepard. I'm only half joking, man. But Kahan Booty, Jaylen, Sterling Shepard. Um, who is the the best
9:28candidate maybe to step in there and fill that Jaden Higgins role?
9:32>> Well, I think it's good to mention two more names here quickly before we proceed. One is uh Tank Dell, who by all
9:40accounts is probably is just not ready to contribute. Yeah, he might not even be a He's somebody at ADP is going way
9:47too early right now. I mean, he's not going he's going late, but he's going as the 70th wide receiver. I even think
9:53that's a little bit of a stretch. I'm not sure you should be drafting him in baseball at all right now. Um is that
10:00that is one of the most dev the injury he suffered at the end of the 2024 season is one of the most devastating
10:05injuries a wide receiver, if not just a football player, can suffer. So, I loved Tank Dell's rookie season. I'm hoping is
10:12someday we see that player again. I certainly don't think it's going to be early in the 20 26 season if at all. So,
10:18I think we can cross his name off the board here. The other guy we do have to at least mention is Xavier Hutchinson
10:24who's going to play more than you want.
10:25James Co. He's going to play more than anybody wants out there. He's not a fantasy factor. I get it. But he's
10:30going to be a role player on this team. He's going to block. He's going to be kind of a He's a little bit
10:35like I know there's another Iowa State receiver, ironically. Hutchinson, Iowa State. Jaden Higgins, Iowa State. Jaylen Null, Iowa State, Alen Lazard, another
10:42Iowa State receiver that I think is kind of in the same ballpark of a Xavier Hutchinson. So, he will be in the mix
10:49here, >> but the top two guys of intrigue are Kahan Booty and Jaylen Null. The interesting thing about Kahan Booty is
10:56that he was another guy last year, third lowest slot percentage of any relevant starting receiver last year. The only two guys that were lower were George
11:04Pickkins and his own teammate Kyle Williams who basically only played when Kan Booty didn't play, you know. So, it's like that was the role that he was
11:12in. Kind of a sacrificial ex receiver last year for the New England Patriots was Kahan Booty. I mean, Nico Collins is
11:18the ex receiver of all exceivers. He's basically only played X over the last few years. So, does Kahan Booty's arrival allow Nico Collins to play, you
11:27know, 10% fewer snaps at X receiver? I I've heard from reliable sources that they don't want to change up his role
11:35too too much, right?
11:37>> Yeah.
11:37>> Um they want to mostly keep him at the exceiver spot, but a little bit more Z would one take Nico Collins to the
11:44absolute moon. He's one of my favorite second round picks in fantasy football period right now. I would absolutely love to take him in baseball. Um but
11:52still, I think even Kahan Booty being more of a Z receiver, that fits with his prospect charting a little bit more. Um,
11:57I think he doesn't h he's not the best separator to me. He's not the best press coverage beater. I'd actually like to
12:03see him on more of these movement breaking routes. I was really in on Jaden Higgins when we we did videos earlier this summer. I was talking about
12:09Higgins as a really good baseball pick.
12:12>> Unfortunately, now I think Booty's not the same type of receiver as Higgins, but he can give right >> like an impression um of that. like his
12:19ADP right now, 17th round, that's obviously going to come up, you know, uh, now that we've got news that he's not going to be buried on the Patriots
12:26depth chart. So, as long as you can still get him in that 17th 16th round, that's a great pick there. But, I would
12:31imagine it's going to come up over the next few weeks.
12:33>> Okay. So, if we are picking in baseball here, you you've and let's say you've got the choice between Booty and like I
12:39don't know, I think he'll go up to the 16th round or Jaylen Null in the 18th round. Uh, and by the way, his price
12:45continued to fall. Jaylen Null, his ADP has dropped, you know, more than 10 10 points here. So, uh, if we're talking
12:52about again at cost, we got Jaylen Nol in the 18th and we've got Kahan Booty in the 16th. I I almost feel like Matt like
13:00can I just go take Jaylen Null? I mean, again, cheaper dude. Um, I know it's not that much cheaper, but you know, again,
13:07cheaper dude. Uh, and I think the I do think that there is a path for him to just just latch on and just be the
13:13full-time starter.
13:15Yeah, Jaylen Null, 85th wide receiver off the board right now. Um, I have him as my wide receiver 60 for reddraft and
13:23I like him even more in best baseball than I do in reddraft. I'm like 25 spots ahead of ADP uh on Jaylen. He's to me I
13:30would take him in the top 50 in a reddraft, not top 50, top 150 in a reddraft format. Uh just kind of stick
13:36him on the end of your bench and see what happens. I like him even better in baseball when I don't have to pick the
13:40weeks where he's going to have an 80% uh route route rate as opposed to, you know, 50% because he may only be a three
13:48wide receiver set player. Um I'll share his player comparisons from the our player comparison tool on the website here because one you can see uh off the
13:58rip what a good you know kind of success rate verse man he has. 73% 81% success rate vers zone. The 82% nearly success
14:05rate versus press is awesome, but it did come on a super small sample of routes.
14:09So, I don't want to overindex on that.
14:12But this is a guy like this is the thing to me is so crazy. Um 5'11, 200 lb. You know, I don't see why he can't be a Z
14:21receiver. James, I I don't think he has to be one of these bunny hop slot guys.
14:25I know they wanted to be a vertical slot. He just got back at practice. He's dealt with a pinky injury and a
14:30hamstring injury uh between OTAA mini camp and training camp. Uh so it's just been kind of frustrating, but I've heard that they're pleased with his progress.
14:39Uh they're they've kind of liked how he's looked. So I still think Jaylen Null is going to play a big role. We
14:45like the reception perception charting from him as a prospect and his rookie year in a small sample. That being said, James Co, scroll down here to the top
14:54five comparisons. I mean, is this not just like Matt Harmon fell for it again territory? Josh Towns, two Jaden Reed seasons, a freaking Curtis Samuel season
15:04in here, you know, Travis Hunter's rookie year. Like, these are all guys that I mean, Hunter aside, but you know, Curtis Samuel, Jaden Reed, Josh Downs,
15:13like why play this guy more? Like, he's not he doesn't have to be slot only. He can get open and then the coaches just
15:18never do.
15:20>> But it's 85th wide receiver off the board. I really I don't really care about that from a baseball standpoint, but important context here.
15:26>> Hey man, that next row is a little bit more interesting. Tyreek Hill.
15:29>> I'm not scrolling down. There's another Jer [laughter] in there. No, we got three Jane Reed's three NFL seasons all compare. Um, and
15:39obviously when we're I'm making jokes here, but if you aren't huge to the player comparison tool [laughter] really like the loose comps are, you
15:47know, I mean, these are again these are moderate comps in the blue, strong comp in the green. So, it really is like
15:54>> I compare Jaylen Null to Josh DS pre-draft before we had invented this tool. And sure enough, >> sure enough, Josh DS, but he's I mean
16:03Josh DS like we compare these two guys together. Josh DS is 175 lb maybe and Jaylen Null 200 lb. I think that that
16:13like again, why can't Null be a Z receiver in two receiver sets? I I don't know.
16:17>> He absolutely can. He absolutely can. I mean, by the way, we just talked about Jacobe Lane. Jacobe Lane's 205 pounds.
16:24You know what I mean? Like Jaylen Null is is muscled up a little bit, man. Like I I don't I agree with you, dude. I know
16:29he's shorter, but golly, I think he's a little muscled up. I I like him a lot.
16:34>> Do you remember when Jaylen Null threw up all those reps on the bench press, >> dude?
16:37>> The NFL scouting combine and 23 reps of 225. I want to see Okay. I want to see all the other Z receivers in the in the
16:45league out there. What are they throwing up on the bench press?
16:47>> That's what I'm talking about.
16:48Ricky Pearl gets hurt in San Francisco again. Deon Stribbling is catching everything under the sun. Mike Evans is also dealing with soft tissue
16:58injuries and he's an older player, man.
17:00Um it feels like Deson Stribbling is going to get all the opportunity in the world to succeed in San Francisco. Buy
17:06or sell Deon Stribbling, the the rookie out of Miss.
17:10>> Yeah, I mean, listen, we've talked about Stribbling so much. Um I've talked about him in other videos for the YouTube
17:16channel. Uh he is in one of the guys that I was higher on than Consensus from a reddraft standpoint. I was kind of I
17:22mean our most watched video in the YouTube channel's history, James, is our Dejon Stribbling is my favorite day two sleeper.
17:29>> Yeah, it is. It's It's the most watched video in [laughter] the YouTube channel's history. Uh Dejon Stribbling is my favorite day two wide receiver
17:37sleeper. You know what? That's because I listed him as a guy that should go on day two and the 49ers took him at the very first pick on day
17:44two. Um but yeah, I'm not just like falling for preseason hype here. This is a guy that I do believe in from a player
17:51perspective. You know, what's the long-term ceiling? We'll see about that.
17:55But he fits this offense so well. Part of the reason that I talked about him in that video and why I liked him on day
18:02two and my theory about him was I think this guy is going to just be a coach's favorite. Um because he blocks, gives a
18:10lot of effort in the run game, which I know I know you don't get best fantasy points for for your uh for the blocking,
18:15but it does keep you on the field, gets you opportunities. I mean, James, remember when I was worried that we were
18:20going to have to shutter the business because the first when we launched the business, we launched the website was the 2021 season and one of my biggest
18:27flag plants that year was Brandon Iayuk was after coming off this rookie year not even playing in the first half of
18:33his second season because he wasn't giving enough effort and how he got himself out of the doghouse was blocking in the run game. Well, Deson Stribbling
18:40already blocks in the run game. Okay, so we're going to see him on the football field a lot for this team as a rookie.
18:46Don't have to worry about that. He catches everything and he makes plays with the ball in his hands and from a
18:51route perspective he is still I will say in development but promising set of release moves 52 percentile success rate verse press coverage and if you look at
19:02the routes that he is best on digs slants the inbreakers that's the type of routes that they want from this kind of
19:12big slot Z receiver in this offense so I like dribbling as a player Um, I I I know the ADP I'm sure is rising, no
19:21doubt. But, uh, for now I I still think Stribbling is a I'm buying the hype. I'm buying the hype on Stribbly being
19:26Stribbling being one of the most productive rookie receivers I think this year.
19:30>> So, according to the latest um, DraftKings ADP that we have on hand, he has an ADP right now around 90. So, like
19:3792 for Dejon Stribbling. That is an eighth round grade for Stribbling. And dude, he has moved up nearly 30 spots.
19:45So, his ADP has climbed nearly 30 spots.
19:48Again, we're we're talking nearly three rounds now >> for dribbling. So much of it, I think, is predicated on the injuries
19:55surrounding some of the other wide receivers. So, I don't know. I I am torn on this one, honestly. I I mean, I feel
20:03like in the eighth round, we are buying Deon Stribbling at his absolute peak.
20:07And I just And I wonder if it's still I mean, golly, the way he's been playing, man, he might even kick that one. you
20:14know, I I don't think he will, >> but [sighs] there's a path for him. I'll tell you what, there's a path for him.
20:20>> But like, what if Mike Evans gets hurt?
20:21And, you know, it'd be nice if Mike Evans could string together five consecutive practices. That's yet to happen uh seemingly over the course of
20:29the uh training camp here for the 49ers.
20:32if Mike Evans gets hurt and like Mike Evans would definitely help, you know, dribbling because >> doesn't have to play X, but still
20:40>> I kind of think that based on what I've seen in the preseason so far, James >> stribbling both of the two games and
20:45obviously >> Mike Evans has not been playing >> um it's been Demarcus Robinson as the exceiver. Like I kind of think Demarcus
20:52Robinson who they gave, you know, pretty decent deal to last off season. Um he missed the first few games with a
20:57suspension. Uh, but like they've been talking about being pleased with where he's at right now. He's a veteran receiver who's played X for the LA Rams
21:05before. You know, I kind of think he's Mike Evans backup at X receiver and then Stribbling will still stay in this power
21:12slot Z receiver essentially what Jawan Jennings was for this team. Um, and even if he's like early career Jawan Jennings, I think that's good enough at
21:21the in the 90s at the ADP. I think if we start to get into the 70s or early 80s, maybe we're pushing it. Like we're going
21:29to start to run into some other really good receiver picks I like. But um I in my fantasy rankings, which you can find
21:36on the site, receptionperception.com, I have my reddraft cheat sheet up there.
21:39Uh he is still in the 90s for me. So I'm I'm wouldn't say I'm ahead of this ADP.
21:44I'm on DraftKings. I mean reddraft leagues, he's still going in the hundreds and I am ahead of consensus there. But for DraftKings, I'm like
21:51within this ADP essentially.
21:53>> Yeah. I mean, it it's a it's a really interesting point um that you bring up and and just something that I want to to
21:58share with the the people watching. Man, it's just listen dude, it's not just about targets, you know, like quality of targets does matter and Deian dribbling
22:07whether he is on ball or off ball to me, I think that matters a lot, right? And so when you look at the the rest of the
22:12the the depth chart, um you're looking at Debo, Samuel, Christian Kirk, and as you mentioned, uh Demarcus Robinson, I don't know what role Jordan Watkins is
22:20going to have, but if Deshan Stribbling is forced to be on the line as an ex receiver, the quality of of looks that
22:26he gets, I think, falls. So yeah, man, I think that stuff does matter. So I don't know. We'll see. Like I said, um his
22:34draft price is moving up. He's nearly 30 spots ahead of when he opened uh in the preseason. I don't know. So, we share
22:41>> you I'm going to quickly share just an idea with you that I've had um for our business in the future and you know here
22:48in a YouTube video about 20 minutes in.
22:50>> Um >> I will never chart a preseason route. I will never chart a pre like success rate verse coverage in the damn preseason.
22:58That'll never happen.
23:00>> But man, I I have thought this year like I think people would really eat it up if I charted like preseason alignment and
23:05like tried to quantify roles. I don't know. So, I don't know if I'll ever >> Yeah. I don't know if I'll ever do it.
23:11You know, >> you just said Strippling's YouTube video was the [laughter] best one on the Dude, you if you throw That's like That's like
23:17Chum to Sharks, bro. Like, you just throw that into the water, bro. Oh, people go crazy. People will go crazy.
23:23Um uh we shall see. Jordan Tyson hamstring again is going to be out a couple of months at a minimum. Uh this
23:29is a player that has dealt with hamstring injuries for the past, you know, couple of years. So, this this lays hamstring injury sounds like it's
23:35pretty severe. He's going to be out for a couple of months here. Uh, in the meantime, I I do wonder who will move up
23:41here for the uh for the Saints. Devon Vle, who is the boring pick, or Bryce Lance, who's the exciting pick here.
23:49Bryce Lance, 6'4", 205 lbs. He ran a 43440 with a 41 12 inch vertical, 111 broad
23:59jump. Bryce Lance, like his brother, unbelievable athlete. Man, what are we talking about here? I am shocked. Matt Harmon that his ADP has not moved. His
24:10ADP on DraftKings right now still sits at 228. It's a 19th round selection and there has been no movement, no price
24:17adjustment at all for Bryce Lance. Buy or sell either of Devon Vle or Bryce Lance.
24:25>> Yeah, I feel like they've gotten a little more excited about their fellow rookie receiver Barry and Brown who's like an explosive player. uh did not
24:33chart Barry and Brown pre-draft, but you know, something that maybe they can sprink. This is a team that uses the most pre- snap motion in the NFL last
24:40year. A lot of spread concepts. That could be interesting with an explosive player like that. But, um, obviously we're talking about day three rookies
24:48here, which I think is the reason that there hasn't been a lot of excitement about Bryce Lance. Can I first of all
24:52say too, Jordan Tyson, wide receiver, 52 ADP on DraftKings, 122nd overall. If you want exposure to Jordan Tyson and fantasy this year, best baseball is the
25:03place to do it. Um, I wouldn't touch the guy in a reddraft managed league unless you unless you have an IR spot. That's a
25:09different situation. But for best, like this is the place to do it, man. You know, um, because you can just say like,
25:15hey, he's part of my plan here. He probably doesn't end up as a zero. It's a small risk. He could be, but he pro
25:21he's a zero for a good chunk of the season, but maybe he really helps you in the back half. You just have to put
25:26together a complimentary receiver room.
25:29Uh you guys can go watch earlier this year we did a video of like boring veteran picks who are just going to give
25:34you some weeks. You know the Jacobe Meyers, the Michael Pitman's types. Like those are the guys you can kind of insulate if you're going to be volatile
25:41with the the Jordan Tyson thing. But >> I just think that if you want exposure to fantasy uh Jordan Tyson this year,
25:47it's probably best to do it on best ball. Now, on the Bryce Lance, Devon Vele conundrum, if you'd like to call
25:53it.
25:53>> Yes.
25:54>> I think I'm gonna take Devon Vele over Bryce Lance because Bryce Lance to me is intriguing.
26:02>> Boring.
26:02>> Yeah, it's it's boring, but you know what? It's probably correct. Uh Devon was pretty good for this team as kind of
26:08a power slot last year.
26:10>> No, he wasn't.
26:10>> And Bryce Lance is like a pure developmental um vertical X receiver prospect out of Colorado State. 40th percentile, not Colorado State, uh, North Dakota State,
26:21excuse me, 40th percentile success rate versus man, 18th against zone, 37th against press. You know, people compare him to Christian Watson. You know,
26:29Watson had an over 80% success rate verse zone as a prospect. He was significantly he was still a work in progress and he was significantly better
26:38and younger than uh I believe younger than than Bryce Lance coming into the NFL, too. So, Bryce Lance is definitely interesting as a vertical receiver.
26:46you're seeing where he wins here is obviously on these vertical routes, but um I still think we're going to need a
26:51lot of work before Bryce Lance is ready to take a lot of snaps for this team um as an as what I imagine to be an ex
26:58receiver for them. So, uh yeah, just give me the boring grinded out uh veteran. [laughter] He actually is a pretty good power slot
27:08receiver and somebody I've kind of liked early on in his career with the Denver Broncos specifically.
27:13Uh Devon Vle, the uh draft community agrees with you because Devon Vle has moved up to an ADP of 193 and from the
27:22DraftKings opening their game, he's moved up 34 spots. So again, the draft community, they agree with you, they don't agree with me. Uh, Devon Vlay, the
27:32boring pick, but to Matt's >> point, >> I'm I'm going Bryce Lance because Yeah, I mean, give me a guy that's running,
27:41you know, has a 41 inch vertical and a sub43540, you know? Like, we're talking about give me a spike week guy. Hell yeah. Give me
27:49Bryce Lance, you know.
27:50>> Yeah. Okay. But the the thing is though, you the guy like literally might not >> play this year. He's a he's a day three
27:57rookie and you just can't take the you can't take the zeros there. Vele >> I don't want like you're not taking
28:02zeros with Veil. You might not be like hitting a home run, but you know he's the 79th wide receiver off the board. I
28:08have him as wide receiver 72 off the board. So like my comparison to him is a little bit higher. Um and I mean some of
28:13the guys like the names he goes around it's crazy. Nobody wants to draft Jerry Judy by the way. He is the 80th wide
28:18receiver off the board. One spot behind Devon Bailey. Um but yeah, like he's because he could legitimately be the fourth option in a Cleveland team that's
28:27got one of the worst quarterback situations in the league, man. Like >> or trade on the deadline to god knows, you know what? Yeah. So, um I get it.
28:36But I mean, >> Devon Bale, I think, is in a good spot.
28:38Like, if you're if you're just hunting for weeks at the end of your wide receiver room here, >> 195th overall pick, I like me some Devon
28:47Bailey there.
28:48>> Okay, there you go. Jake Bobo, Tory Horton, both injured. I don't know what I don't know how long Tory Horton is
28:53going to be out. I don't think anybody knows quite yet. But Tory Horton dealing with an injury. Jake Bobo is out for the
28:58entire season. And Rasheed Shahed, I don't know, man. Like again, this is somebody who's got a DraftKings ADP of 137. He's going in the 12th round. It's
29:07that classic sleeper wide receiver range right now for Rasheed Shahed. Buy or sell Shahed in Seattle.
29:14>> I'm gonna buy Shahed. Um, I think that he's just such an interesting player because it's one of those ones where is
29:20it a different version but another like oh my god fell for it again with this guy. Um, [laughter] because I think he
29:28really is just such a good vertical threat uh is Rasheed Jahid. But I think there's more than that with Rasheed Shahed. So um, one by the way player
29:39comparison tool his number one comparison this is an elite match is John Brown. remember John Brown?
29:45>> Hell yeah.
29:46>> One of the OG reception perception guys.
29:49Um and Brown was certainly more than just a deep threat receiver. You know, he had like a thousand yards with the
29:54Buffalo Bills at one point. Um this is obviously one of his Cardinal seasons that he compares to here. But yeah, I
29:59mean John Brown eventually did like f it took a long time, but he finally had that like complete high volume receiver
30:06season with the Buffalo Bills. And I kind of feel like that is still available for Rasheed Shahid, even if we haven't seen it yet. um 68% success rate
30:14verse man, 71% success rate verse press, and I think he's a really good catcher of the football. Like I think he attacks
30:20the ball well with his hands. He doesn't body catch. Um yeah, just to me, I think there's more to Shahed's game than what
30:26we've seen so far and someone that as long as he stays cheap and he is still pretty cheap relative to being a good
30:32good fit for best ball drafts. Um yeah, maybe he just ends up being one of those guys that like we talk about forever and
30:38he doesn't do it. Uh, but I I do kind of think like if the Seahawks offense, which they were about in my, you know,
30:46mashup of offensive efficiency metrics, they're about the 12th best offense last year, but they kind of lived off of explosive plays in the passing game. I
30:53think if they're going and just JSN going absolutely nuclear, which we expect him to be good again this year.
30:57But if they're going to save off some of that regression, I think it has to come with guys that are already on the roster
31:03stepping up. I was hoping Tory Horton could be one of those cuz I love Tory Horton's game, but can't really stay
31:07healthy. isn't likely to be available for good chunks of the season. So, give me Rashid Jahit as somebody that um is
31:14just a is is a screaming kind of value right now.
31:17>> Man, how much and I think critical in this um Rashid Shahid talk is how much do you think Cooper Cup is actually
31:22going to play?
31:25>> Probably more than you think, but um I think that I think Shahed will >> That's my worry, dude.
31:29>> I think Shahed will will play more than than Cup this year. I think Cup is valuable as a blocker. Um, but I think
31:37they need more from a receiver. This is my thing. I don't think they can just plan to run out like heavy personnel.
31:44And Jackson Smith and J had the highest target share for a receiver since at least the year 2015, at least the last
31:50decade.
31:51>> Like they can't really count on just doing that again. Um, not saying that JSN's going to be bad this year or, you
31:56know, he might have a 30% target share and that would still be, you know, pretty decent regression there. So, I think they kind of have to spread that
32:04thing out a little bit more. And Heat is a really good candidate.
32:07>> Okay, I like it. There you go. Five trendy wide receivers that our guy Matt Harmon weighs in on. Like and subscribe
32:14and go and check out the website receptionperception.com.
32:18We got to get out of here. For Matt Harmon, I'm James Co. We'll see you.
32:21Peace.
