Travis EtiennePositiveJul 16, 2026Dataroma
To be clear, definitely not pounding the table for Kamara. Think he’s extremely limited at this point and probably has pretty poor injury-contingent upside. Would imagine he splits with an Estime, Neal or Kendre, in an offense that may be trending up but is still on the weaker side of the league. More so just think he limits the upside of Etienne as a pass-catcher. And fwiw, the advanced stuff for these two has been pretty similar over the past couple of years, both not great. James AndersonPositiveJul 16, 2026Yahoo Sports NFL
The source ranks James Anderson at No. 59 on its all-time Panthers list, recognizing his seven-year tenure as a quality linebacker who became a key member of the defense. His peak came in 2010 with 130 tackles (101 solo), 13 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, seven quarterback hits, one interception, two forced fumbles, and three fumbles recovered across 43 of 44 possible starts in a three-year stretch (2010–2012). In 2011, he posted career highs with 145 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defended. The source notes he was an important part of the Panthers franchise despite never receiving national accolades, and that his departure in 2012 was a cap space casualty decision made after the Panthers added Jon Beason and Luke Kuechly to the roster.
Sam HowellNegativeJul 16, 2026Yahoo Sports NFL
Sam Howell was signed by the Cowboys to compete for the backup quarterback spot behind Dak Prescott after the team moved on from Will Grier. Howell brings significant starting experience, having started 18 games in his career including all 17 games for the Washington Commanders in 2023, though he has only thrown 14 passes over the past two seasons. The system is familiar for Howell, as he noted his days at the University of North Carolina featured a similar setup to how the Cowboys play under head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The backup quarterback spot is officially up for grabs, with Howell competing against Joe Milton III.
Luke SchoonmakerNegativeJul 16, 2026Yahoo Sports NFL
Luke Schoonmaker, a second-round pick out of Michigan in the 2023 draft, faces significant roster competition heading into training camp. The Cowboys signed two undrafted free agents at tight end—Baylor's Michael Trigg and TCU's D.J. Rogers—and spent the most money among their undrafted free agent crop on those two positions. Historical precedent suggests undrafted tight ends can leap drafted players on the depth chart; two years ago, Brevyn Spann-Ford converted the highest-paid undrafted deal into two years with the Cowboys, leaping Schoonmaker on the depth chart. If the undrafted rookies take strides, Schoonmaker will have to fight for his spot. The positive for Schoonmaker is that he is feeling healthy after dealing with multiple injuries over the last two years.
Joe MiltonNegativeJul 16, 2026Yahoo Sports NFL
Joe Milton III enters 2026 with a year in Dallas under his belt but faces significant uncertainty in the backup quarterback competition. Milton had a shaky first preseason with the Cowboys after being acquired in a trade last offseason and was not called upon to play meaningful snaps in the regular season. The signing of Sam Howell could signal the coaching staff's lack of belief in Milton moving forward, or it could be intentional motivation heading into 2026. Either way, Milton is being called upon to take a step forward in the backup quarterback battle behind Dak Prescott.
