Whether this is the Falcons covering themselves with Michael Penix Jr. getting banged up repeatedly and not wanting to chance Rush getting back into a game in case of a rash of injuries that takes down Penix and backup Tua Tagovailoa, or whether they view Dalton as a possible QB2 over Tua remains to be seen.

Falcons signed Dalton as third QB, possibly over injury concerns with Penix.

Dalton was signed by the Falcons as a third-string quarterback after the team released Cooper Rush; the move may indicate the Falcons are covering themselves with Michael Penix Jr. getting banged up repeatedly, or they view Dalton as a possible upgrade over backup Tua Tagovailoa.
