Falcons signed Dalton as third QB, likely insurance for injury-prone Penix.

The Atlanta Falcons signed veteran quarterback Andy Dalton and released Cooper Rush. Dalton will open as the third quarterback on the roster behind Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa. The source characterizes this as a curious move, suggesting it may be the Falcons covering themselves with Penix getting banged up repeatedly, or potentially viewing Dalton as a possible QB2 over Tagovailoa. Dalton is described as a slam dunk upgrade over Rush.
