0:53Hey everybody, welcome to the Insiders. Patrick Claiborne here with the NFL Network insider Mike Garofalo, where we have been celebrating the American Century Championship all week.
1:02Mike, and we got a little bit of a treat for everybody here at the start of our show.
1:08Let's take a look at this leaderboard around the middle of the leaderboard.
1:12The player you see highlighted there. Six under! That's great!
1:15It's stable for scoring, Mike. Oh! Yeah, so we will talk about that.
1:19But there's a lot of big numbers that we've seen from people who are not Charles Barkley, who joins us now here on the Insiders.
1:26Charles, take us through the round. How did it go today?
1:30Thanks for spending time with us, man. Thanks for having me.
1:33Oh, hey, number one, thanks for having me. I'm starting to get that football bug.
1:38I ain't gonna lie, man. The season's right around the corner.
1:41Football is my favorite sport. And you now, you can see light at the end of the tunnel.
1:47I cannot wait. And listen, my bird's gonna be good again this year.
1:51But to answer your question, I played well today.
1:54I had a great time. I played with Rob Mack and Anthony Anderson.
1:58We had a great time. The weather was perfect.
2:01This is the only place in the country that's not hot.
2:04So I had a blast. Yeah, we've been checking in in the morning.
2:08It's been like 50 degrees, nice and cool to start the day.
2:12And then throughout the day, comfortable weather. The course looks to be in incredible condition.
2:17Tony Romo, Annika Sorenstam, like that's a ringer to me.
2:20Like how is that allowed that a professional golfer is playing in this tournament, Charles?
2:24Listen, she's such a sweet lady, man. You got to let her play.
2:28We really want to get more women out here, to be honest with you.
2:33You know, I think we only have like four or five women.
2:37We've had the same old beat up celebrities like myself the last 25, 30 years.
2:41We would love to get some young, some young ladies out here.
2:45But man, Annika is so amazing. She's great for the tournament.
2:48I mean, and she was playing really well today when I saw the leaderboard.
2:53Yeah. And looking at the leaderboard, see you a few shots ahead of Bobby Flay's, you know, thinking about inside the NBA
3:00is Bobby Flay is getting cooked right now. He's barbecue chicken out there in terms of bringing this community together of celebrities, athletes.
3:07This is a great experience for all involved in uplifting charity as well, Charles.
3:11You know, Patrick, this thing has grown so much.
3:14When we, when we first started, we probably only had 40, 50 celebrities.
3:18And now we're up to 90 and some, and we got, we probably could play it and get another 20 guys in
3:25who want to come here and play, but they limit the field to 90.
3:29It's a great week. All the celebrities are pretty nice.
3:32Like they're here to have fun. Cause let's be realistic.
3:35There's probably only 10 guys who can actually win this tournament.
3:39The other 80 are here to have fun and have a really good time, but there's probably be and I'm being honest,
3:46there's probably only 10 people can actually win this tournament.
3:49Uh, that's the number that everybody seems to be throwing at us about 10 people, Chuck.
3:54And, uh, maybe next year you get you in the, in that 10.
3:58We're going to have to keep working on that swing.
4:01Um, but you talked about the bug to me.
4:04It's like July 4th. Once we pass there, then you start to think about training camp.
4:09You start to hear the pads popping. You talked about the Eagles and we're going to have Jason Kelce later in the show.
4:16I'm going to ask him this question, new offense.
4:19They're, uh, you're going to have to teach Jalen hurts some new things under center a little bit more.
4:24I mean, how much do you think this offense and everything that changes in Philadelphia are going to help Jalen?
4:31Well, AJ Brown is a great wide receiver. Uh, I wish him nothing but the best, uh, up in new England, but there was too much tension.
4:39So I think, I don't know if they'll be as good offensively cause they count on the young kid.
4:45They just drafted, but there'll be, it'll be just, it won't be as intense.
4:49And you guys know when you start having that tension between players, especially in a city like Philadelphia, it's hard to play.
4:56I can say, AJ is a great wide receiver, but there was so much tension in that locker room.
5:02I think if they can just, it'll just be free for everybody.
5:06So I think there'll be, would they be as good?
5:09I can't answer that question, but there'll be a lot less tension and freedom once the season starts in the locker room.
5:16And that tension obviously extends out to the, the city of Philadelphia.
5:20Charles, you of course have that connection there. What role do you think Philadelphia and the Philadelphia media had in the kind of devolution of that relationship?
5:28Oh, a lot. Uh, you know, listen, I tell people the East coast media at times they can be unfair.
5:34When you talk about New York, you talk about Philadelphia, you talk about Boston.
5:39It's hard to play in those cities. Everybody can't play in those cities.
5:43And the one thing you know, and the only way to quiet the noise, you just saw what happened in Boston with
5:49Jalen Brown, a hell of a player. It was just too much tension around that team.
5:54And he's a great, great player, but man, they had to do something.
5:58And we got very lucky to get him in Philadelphia, but the media, the media, East coast media is a different animal.
6:05Yeah. I know, you know that. And I'm going to show you that, you know, that in just a second here, because
6:12I also know, you know, your football cause you're out at training camp scouting.
6:16How do I know that? Because back in 1989, 1990, I don't know if you remember exactly when, but I know this
6:23is a vivid memory for you taking a picture here with your boy, the rare picture where I can say, Oh, look how much hair I had you.
6:32Not so much. Uh, but I mentioned the East coast media that is Howard asking right over your left, uh, arm right
6:39there, but Chuck, you couldn't have been better that day.
6:42We asked you to take a picture. Uh, and you, and you gave me your time 35 ish years later.
6:48Thank you very much, pal. And I know, I know you, uh, I know it's a vivid memory for you.
6:54Well, no, you know what? 35 years later, I still can't get rid of asking that guy, that guy, listen, man, he
7:01was spending so much time at my house. They gave him the name Tato.
7:06That's how much time asking spent at my house.
7:08And, and, and Mike, I, to this day, I cannot get rid of asking.
7:13He's one of it. Yeah. It's amazing. Hey, and let me tell you something.
7:17Guys never paid a bill a day in his life ever.
7:21Never, ever, never, never, ever. I said, I was one of his producers.
7:25So it's all this triangle, all interconnected. We were all there in that moment right there.
7:30It was a beautiful moment. And again, Chuck, I couldn't thank you enough for that as a kid.
7:35Yeah. Lance is coming out for Howard Eskin today.
7:38Charles navigating the, the end of a playing career, something LeBron James will eventually have to do.
7:43Uh, what are your thoughts as he kind of gets into that decision on where to go and how to facilitate a possible farewell tour?
7:51Well, I think the only rightful, a fairway or two would be with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
7:56Hey, listen, if LeBron goes to golden state or Philadelphia is like, he's trying to cheat his way to a championship.
8:03He has no affiliation with either one of those teams.
8:06He should go back to Cleveland and finish his career there.
8:09He is arguably the second greatest basketball player I've ever seen in my life.
8:13He's amazing, but the chase championships in golden state or Philly.
8:17I don't think that would be a fitting into his career going back to Cleveland where he was born and lived and
8:24had, and had a, uh, it's an impact on basketball.
8:27That would be the perfect way in my opinion to end his career.
8:31Charles, one more for you here, uh, on the American century championship.
8:35It's great camaraderie out there. I know you had the karaoke contest last night.
8:39I don't know if you were a part of that.
8:42We've got some, uh, NFL folks, some NFL head coaches, Robert Sala, Kevin O'Connell there.
8:47Uh, how has the event overall been getting the chance to hang with such a great athletes and coaches there?
8:53Man, I was so excited to meet Coach Sala last night.
8:56I, he was on my bucket list for this weekend and I got a chance to meet him and his son.
9:03He was so awesome. I haven't met Coach McConnell yet, but I really wanted to meet, uh, Robert Sala.
9:09Cause I got a lot of respect for him and I wish him great luck down in Tennessee, but he was the
9:16one person I really want to meet this trip.
9:18Well, Charles, thank you for, for meeting us and spending time with us here on the insiders.

10:00Yes. They're rookies will be the first folks that report July 17th.
10:04The veterans over there on July 24th and they've had significant turnover.
10:08They lost their offensive coordinators. Now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, the Super Bowl MVP.
10:14Now the running back for the Kansas city cheeses.
10:16We welcome in Steve White, but there's other questions about this team where they just got a lot of new folks.
10:23First off, great interview gentlemen with Charles Barkley. I mean, he is absolutely one of the best.
10:28Well done. Mike, you look really good with the hair, but you talk about some of the changes offensively with the Seattle Seahawks.
10:35Let's talk about somebody who came through midway last season, had a huge impact.
10:40That's receipt receipt to heed, but he had this impact mainly as a returner.
10:44We saw the 58 yard punt return against the Rams and we 16, which changed that game.
10:49And then the opening kickoff return in the playoffs, which against San Francisco, which got them going.
10:55I said the week 18 kick return against the 49ers, but all off season.
10:59I've spoken to people up there. Shahid now is expected to have a much bigger role as a wide receiver.
11:05Remember he came in last November. He did not have a lot of time to really get used to the offense.
11:12Now Brian Flurry, the new offensive coordinator has been incorporating him in the offense a lot more.
11:17So expect Shahid to put a big numbers in terms of the yardage wise and production wise, much similar to what he
11:24did in New Orleans before he got to Seattle.
11:27You know, we talk about this defense and how good they were down the stretch and how good they were in the playoffs.
11:34Certainly in the Super Bowl. When you talk to folks in Seattle, it's like, well, this defense could be even better this year.
11:41And on the whole, really, because there were some games early in the season.
11:45I mean, they gave up the 38 to Tampa Bay.
11:48There were a couple more after that in the 20s.
11:52And then they really locked it down. I mean, there was a game against the Rams.
11:57There was a 38-37 game. But outside of that, 0-9, 16-10, 3-6.
12:00And then to carry that forward and what they're doing in the spring, building off of that and another year together and
12:07even more experience together because there was not a lot of turnover on that side of the ball.
12:13A couple of guys departing, obviously, that you have every single year.
12:16But really the core of that team, they feel like they've got these guys back together, communicating even better.
12:22That's kind of scary when you think about what this defense could be another step above what they were last year.
12:29Yeah, well ahead of schedule last year, we can say that.
12:32Of course, coming up with the Lombardi Trophy is everyone trying to catch them.
12:37One of those teams trying to catch them. The Indianapolis Colts and the AFC, they're hoping to regain some of that form
12:44they had at the start of the 2025 season.
12:46Of course, instrumental in that will be the health of one Daniel Jones, whose injuries were the before and after of the Colts' run last year.
12:54His recovery process he detailed last month. He had a goal of full participation in training camp.
13:00But there's a few quarterback questions that are also related to Daniel Jones that may not involve Daniel Jones.
13:06Yeah, according to Daniel Jones in today's Athletic, he said that he's been cleared to do everything starting at the outset of training camp.
13:13Now, the medical staff is going to have to really kind of bring him along at certain paces.
13:19You don't necessarily want to rush him right now.
13:21You want him to be ready by week one.
13:24But as he comes back steadily, remember he did some off-season work in OTAs and in minicamp.
13:30Anthony Richardson, let's see how he continues to step up the former first-round draft pick who lost his job to Daniel Jones because of injuries and inconsistencies.
13:38Remember, Richardson last year had that fractured orbital eye socket injury from that weird pre-game stretching incident where a thing came back and snapped.
13:45A band came back and snapped on his eye.
13:48But he participated some in off-season workouts and by most accounts did pretty well.
13:53So he has an opportunity, Mike, if he has a pretty good pre-season to maybe showcase himself as potential trade bait.
13:59Remember, Riley Leonard is the other backup there. Richardson did ask for a trade.
14:03Remember, at the start of the off-season, that was kind of rescinded as he took a very professional approach to this off-season.
14:10Yeah, Daniel Jones really took that job from Anthony Richardson in training camp into the pre-season.
14:15Richardson's now got to put it on display for himself if he's going to wind up somewhere else in a better situation.
14:22For me, the story for the Colts is the defense.
14:25You look at some of the additions on paper, and I know these games aren't played on paper, but on paper you
14:32look at it and go, okay, some role players or some veterans, not necessarily top-priced guys that were added to the mix,
14:39whether it's Arden Key, Michael Clemens, Derek Nottie, Jerry Tiller, the guys up front there.
14:44But don't forget the Sauce Gardner addition that was a big part of their off-season, right?
14:49I mean, they started to spend it on that move at the trading deadline last year, and you see what Sauce is doing right there.
14:56Lou Anarumo is a fantastic defensive coordinator. This defense started to understand as the season went on what he's looking for.
15:03I think that's going to continue forward. I think this Colts defense is going to be better last year just because of
15:10another year of all these guys working together. I sort of said that about the Seahawks, who are already where the Colts
15:17are trying to get to defensively, but I think Indianapolis certainly takes a step forward on defense.
15:22Yeah, and also a few steps forward in the sand.
15:25If you're going to have an off-season workout video, have them with the beach cabanas actually on the beach for Sauce Gardner there.

17:18Like when would you do that? That was never really stipulated.
17:21To me, it feels only natural that the loser would have to do that at next year's American Century Championship event.
17:28But right now it looks like I'm losing. So I think Trav's going to be able to call that one.
17:34So for the people at home, it's stable for, so they may look at the scoreboard and say, wow, Jason's tearing up the course.
17:42It's a little bit backwards. We need you to catch Kevin O'Connell's one shot ahead of you.
17:47Of course, there's the Steph Curry's and Tony Romo's.
17:50Annika's sword stands at the top. Kind of unfair that you having to compete against the golf.
17:55Like she dunked one on three from I don't even know how far she was out, but dunked an eagle back there.
18:02So yeah, not competing with Annika. That's for dang sure.
18:05But just in terms of the experience, so many opportunities for you guys to be away from the game.
18:11And I know you talk football with us. But just to get a chance to kind of share in that community, get out there on the course.
18:19I mean, it's an incredible event. I mean, this is my third year doing it.
18:24Trav's been doing it for a long time and has been hyping it up every year that he's done it.
18:30There's a reason why people come back every year.
18:33Obviously, just Lake Tahoe in general is gorgeous. But the whole event runs so well.
18:38American Century does a fantastic job. NBC does a great job.
18:41All the celebrities, the people that come out, the patrons, the energy is great.
18:45Everybody's just looking to have fun. You can kind of get whatever you want.
18:50I got my whole family out this year. There's a casino.
18:53I hit a golf ball to this Harris Casino right here.
18:57So if you're looking to get into some trouble late at night, you can do that too.
19:02There's really, you know, whatever you're looking for, you're going to have a good time.
19:07And you're going to be around some incredible people.
19:09And you're raising a lot of money for a great cause with the Stowers Institute and American Century.
19:15So very, very happy to be back again. Yeah, maybe we can get Annika Sorenstam in the Oklahoma drill and just see how she does in that.

19:45A little bit of a cheat. He had his sons come up last year and help him out.
19:51Did they defend their title? How did that karaoke contest go?
19:54Ray still did a great job this year. He did not defend it.
19:58I think he was on the up. First of all, last year, Ray killed it.
20:03I mean, going up there, I believe it was Eminem.
20:06I mean, absolutely destroyed it. Great energy was hilarious and also awesome.
20:10Like it was a great balance, which is what you want in a karaoke challenge.
20:14Obviously, the Rascal Flats do a great job being the house band behind you.
20:19So you got a lot of support this year.
20:22And they still did a great job. But he was up against the defending gold medal champion USA Olympic hockey team.
20:28I don't know that anybody was going to be able to beat those guys.
20:32I mean, they had their gold medals up there bringing energy, doing a USA chant.
20:37Wow. It was going to be tough for anybody to beat those guys last night.
20:42Yeah, it's tough to square, you know, in terms of athletic accomplishments, what so many people bring to the table.
20:48And I wonder in terms of golf and athletics, we ask people all week, Jason, there's having fun playing the game.
20:54And then there's competing with a whole bunch of people watching on a tough golf course.
20:59Where do you kind of balance that in this event?
21:03I mean, for me, I know I'm not going to be competing to win this thing.
21:08I'm nowhere near that good. I'm just trying to compete to play better than I have in past.
21:13I still get competitive. I get very competitive with me not playing well versus what I think I should be doing.
21:20And so the back nine honestly wasn't very fun playing golf.
21:23But you try to keep things in perspective. You know, at the end of the day, we're all still out here raising money, doing some great things.
21:32I'm out there with the Miz and AJ Hawk.
21:34So we're still having a great time being around each other.
21:38I think they paired the three biggest meatheads in the tournament up with each other.
21:42So we were energy was definitely at a maximum, even though the score was also at a maximum for me and the Miz at least.
21:50But anyways, it was it's a lot of fun, even though you are competing against yourself and you still want to perform well, comparative to your own games.
21:59Next year, the insiders live from the American Century Championship.
22:02I'm calling my shot right now. Let's see if we can get it done.
22:06We do spend a lot of time on this program talking football, though.
22:10So we need to lean on your expertise here and your experience with the Philadelphia Eagles organization, because it's a big year there.
22:18Talked about it all spring. The changes on offense under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
22:22A lot of folks say, you know, will this new system highlight some things for Jalen Hurts and help him succeed and go to that?
22:30Like, what are you hearing out of there with regard to him and this offense in general?
22:35I think everybody in the in the building is excited.
22:38I think obviously the offense has struggled the last couple of years.
22:42I mean, obviously, they want to screwball the year before the run game was there.
22:47But I think things have been trending downward, especially in the passing game for a while.
22:52I think everybody's excited about this season, about some change coming.
22:55There's optimism. They still have great players in that building.
22:58Obviously, you lose AJ Brown, phenomenal player. You get Makai Lemon in.
23:02You get Wicks coming in. There's there's still a lot of talent still at Saquon Barkley.
23:07Great offensive line. So I think there's excitement. I think Jalen's excited.
23:11Obviously, things are going to be different. They're going to be doing the Green Bay, you know, McVay, a lot of under center play action outside zone.
23:19It's going to be different. But I imagine there's probably still going to call a lot of plays that suit Jalen Hurts' game as well.
23:27So it's going to be a little bit of, you know, how does this system best fit the Philadelphia Eagles and their personnel?
23:34And, you know, how does Jalen in this offense, you know, run this new system?
23:39And I'm very excited to see it. I've been a big fan of what this looks like.
23:44You know, it really marries up well with the running pass, all the motions.
23:48It's hard to get a beat on it. Obviously, Mannion is very experienced in it.
23:53We're going to see how he does as a play caller in game adjustments.
23:57I mean, there's a lot of optimism and there's also a lot of things that you're looking forward to seeing how it
24:04looks with the Philadelphia Eagles this season. All right.
24:07So, Jason, before you go, I want to take a look at the scoreboard with everybody, show you what we're collectively dealing
24:14with in terms of coming up with this round.
24:17We need 15 under to salvage this bet with little brother.
24:20And also maybe, you know, hop a top of Kevin O'Connell.
24:24No laying up tomorrow. Can I get a commitment that every shot will be seeking the pin tomorrow?
24:29Well, I tell you, if I beat Kevin O'Connell for how tall and good looking that guy is, I will be very happy.
24:36I mean, that is a, that is a win.
24:39He's handsome. I don't think there's any chance at this point.
24:43I'm going to be in the positive and being able to win the bet with Trav.
24:48It would take a pretty historic event. But I don't know.
24:51Yeah. As an athlete, you always think somehow you can get it done.
24:55So I don't know. I'll be trying everything I can to get back in the positive and see Travis and some blue
25:02man group paint, but not looking good so far.

25:18A Florida judge ruled on Friday that former Lions first round pick Terry on Arnold will not have to wear a GPS
25:25tracking monitor as a condition of his release on bond for felony charges.
25:29The Lions released Arnold in late June after his arrest.
25:32His agent said there were a few teams already expressing interest as we're joined now by Mark Ross.
25:38Mike Garofalo back with us. So some teams are already reaching out, Mike.
25:42The Colts, Texans, Seahawks and Jets, according to Arnold's agent, Nicole Lynn, she said that he worked out for Houston and might
25:49visit some teams or is expected to visit some teams in the next week.
25:53Another workout on the docket here. So, yeah, there's teams that are going to be interested, but they're going to have to
26:00do their homework here to get the answers that the Lions believe that they got enough of to make the decision to
26:07move on from Terry on Arnold here. So if teams would have claimed them on waivers, they would have inherited the entire contract.
26:14They said no. So potentially this could be a veteran minimum type deal.
26:18We'll see how that plays out from a football standpoint while the legal process plays out as well.
26:24Mark, you've been in front offices before. Sometimes you're going to have to take on players where there are risks involved or
26:31maybe there's some off the field stuff that you need to sift through.
26:35If you're one of these teams that Nicole Lynn is talking about, how do you kind of handle this?
26:40Well, that's why they're bringing these teams in. Look, the teams have two years of film on Terry and Arnold to know what he is as a player.
26:49Been a disappointment at the Lions. I think if he'd been playing like a top 10 pick would still have him on the team.
26:57But this is more about these teams bringing him in to see what type of person Terry and Arnold is and get
27:03some questions answered about what happened and talk to him about the incident and feel comfortable about him as a person.
27:10You know, if something does develop where they do sign him because they know exactly what he is as a player at this time in the year.
27:18Teams players are in their best shape. He did have the shoulder surgery.
27:22That could be another component aspect of it. We're going to see how healthy he is.
27:27But overall, it is the feeling of we know what you are as a player.
27:32We need to do a little bit more digging with you about what happened.
27:36We talked about, you know, just the the law enforcement teams also have their own security that can dig in more into this as well.
27:44And the risk is the contract not giving a lot of guaranteed money, but also the commissioner's exempt list.
27:50If he does come back, then Goodell could come in there and say, wait a minute, let's pump the brakes on this little paid leave.
27:58So a lot of questions still out there for Arnold.
28:01Yeah, Mark, you mentioned the injury is back in October 5th against the Bengals wound up missing the remainder of the 2025 season.
28:08So fact finding on all accounts there will be back with Mark Ross as we have some some answers to give you
28:15about some training camps around the NFL. But we are looking for 29 days until the Pro Football Hall of Fame class
28:22of 2026 induction ceremony for Drew Brees, Roger Craig, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kinkley and Adam Venatieri.
28:27A player who knows all about the Hall of Fame Marcus Allen.
28:31We had a chance to talk to him earlier this week.
28:34The American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament going on this week at Lake Tahoe.
28:38Joined now by 2003 inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Marcus Allen.
28:42Marcus, thanks for joining us on the Insiders. You know, we got Aldel Greco, Steph Curry, John Smoltz, like Tony Romo, previous champions.
28:50Are you going to be in the running after your round today?
28:53Well, I felt pretty good about my round. Tomorrow morning, I'm going to tee off with Tim Brown and Jerome Bettis.
29:00So looking forward to that. We play a lot together anyway.
29:03So it should be just a normal day for us.
29:06You know, I'm hitting the ball pretty well. So we're going to see about tomorrow.
29:11So we're going to see how it plays out.
29:14I feel like anybody like Romo who is legitimately making a push to play professional golf should be in a completely different category.
29:21Right. I just feel like he should be over here.
29:24But have you had a chance to watch him or some of these other guys that are really challenging the way they're striking the ball?
29:32To be honest with you, there's a maybe 10 to 15 guys who are legitimately, you know, could win the tournament itself.
29:39And the rest of us, we're here to have, you know, really enjoy ourselves, have a good time.
29:44And, you know, and we don't want to embarrass ourselves, but it's it's we know there's a couple of guys out there
29:51or a group of guys out there that are going to be contending.
29:55And we're just trying to play the best we possibly can put as many points on the board as possible.
30:01And that's that's how we look at it. But in the golf game, Marcus, there's that significant life investment that comes with
30:08trying to compete, which also kind of comes at the expense of enjoying golf.
30:13Like, how do you balance that? Well, of course, if you play well, you would think obviously you're going to enjoy yourself a lot more.
30:20And if you play miserably, it's going to impact the rest of your trip.
30:25But listen, you can't take yourself too seriously. We're not professional golfers.
30:29We compete on a friendly level. We'll play our, you know, our $100 skin game all the time.
30:34That's about it. And so that's not a great deal of pressure out here.
30:38We're just trying to have some fun. At least that's what I'm trying to do.
30:43So I can't speak for everybody else. So if I hit a bad shot, I get disappointed, of course.
30:49But I don't get too mad because it's not something I'm doing every single day.
30:54A lot of folks have accomplished much greater heights on the football field there, including yourself and the Raiders organization as well.
31:01Now, it's been a bit of a game of musical chairs when it comes to the head coach the last couple of years.
31:08But Clint Kubiak seems like he's locked in for the long haul there with the Raiders in Vegas.
31:13I know you were there at the press conference.
31:16What's been the early returns that you've sent or maybe some conversation that you've had with Kubiak that leads to some optimism
31:23this thing's heading in the right direction? Well, I think the first thing is stability.
31:28That's what's really important. So obviously, you know, we'd like to get off to a great start.
31:33I think we did that in the draft. And I think it's at this point, it's just building momentum.
31:39I think he's the perfect guy for the job.
31:42He relates well. There's an expectation there. He wants everybody to buy in.
31:46He wants everybody to be committed. And I think, again, I mean, you hate to say this, success would be a coach
31:53there for more than one or two years. So but I think Clint's going to do an outstanding job.
31:58And I think, you know, via the draft and obviously, you know, free agency, we're going to start bringing, you know, some
32:05really good pieces and really make this a great team, not just one or two individuals, but really a great team.
32:12So it's going to take a little time. But I think the Raiders are headed in the right direction.
32:18And a part of that direction includes the number one overall pick the offensive line circumstances and the offense wasn't necessarily in
32:25position probably to facilitate a number one pick rookie quarterback starting last year.
32:29Would you feel more confident in Fernando playing early this time around?
32:32You know, I don't have any idea what their plan is.
32:36You know, I've heard that he may sit and watch.
32:39And then I've heard that, you know, he's he's doing well.
32:42And, you know, there's a chance that he may play.
32:45You know, we'll have to find out. You know, personally, I don't mind younger players sitting and watching and learning.
32:52You know, I think obviously the pressure and expectation of being number one and the amount of money that guys are being paid.
32:59You know, a lot of times we throw guys out there when, you know, they may not be ready or they may
33:06not have the personnel around them that that would really sort of facilitate, you know, an opportunity to be really, really good.
33:13So, you know, I think it all depends on management and what they what they want to do.
33:18And I think I got faith in John, the GM.
33:21I think he's going to do a great job.
33:24How about Ashton Gentry? I mean, you know, a little bit about running the rock last year.
33:29I sort of felt bad for him at times getting the ball and there's somebody in the backfield.
33:35He's already got to try to avoid Tyler Lindbaum is in now.
33:39Kubiak certainly going to bring himself a run heavy attack here.
33:42What are your expectations for Gentry in year two?
33:45Have you had any conversations with him? Yeah, I talked to Ashton every now and then.
33:50I haven't seen him lately, though, but of course, you know, the one Achilles heel is penetration.
33:55And yeah, I think he got hit in the backfield as you alluded to more than any back in the league last year.
34:02That is something that we can't allow to happen.
34:05We have to create some holes for him. And I think obviously when he gets a little bit of an open, he can be special.
34:13And I think when you reflect back on last year, despite all that, I think he had a pretty good year.
34:19He showed a lot of promise. So I'm looking forward to him doing well this year as well.
34:25As far as the team's hopes in the division, the Chiefs waiting to get Patrick Mahomes back fully healthy.
34:31Is this does that offer them an advantage? Or do you feel that the Chiefs are going to be right back where
34:38they have been since Mahomes has started for them?
34:41Well, the Chiefs have put together a really good team as well.
34:44So, I mean, Patrick is obviously the centerpiece of that team.
34:48But I mean, they're talented. They built a good team.
34:51So it's not just one individual, but you can't replace him.
34:54I understand that he's doing well and he's, I mean, he's been phenomenal.
34:58I mean, you can't say, you know, much else about him, but he's just been phenomenal.
35:03So I think anytime that he's there, there's an opportunity for the Chiefs to be in the rain for the Super Bowl.
35:10How about this Hall of Fame class? You're a Hall of Famer yourself.
35:14Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, Adam Vinatieri, and Roger Craig running back from Virginia.
35:19Back when you were playing as well. Your thoughts on that class and how happy are you that Roger Craig got in?
35:26I like the way you say back when we were playing.
35:29I know it was such a long time ago, but I appreciate you being kind.
35:34I remember watching it. I was right there with you.
35:37Hey, I know. Yeah, I'm sure you fell off me big while watching me play, right?
35:42I listed here. I'm going to go back. I haven't missed a ceremony since I got inducted in 2003.
35:48So I'm looking forward to going back and spending time with the guys and welcome them in.
35:53It should be a lot of fun. Obviously, I think the headline of that, you know, that group is Drew Brees and Larry Fitzgerald.
36:01I mean, those guys have had phenomenal careers. So it's I'm looking forward to seeing everybody though.

37:28on to the semifinals of the World Cup. And I know a lot of people say that divisional weekend is the best weekend in all of football.
37:36And for world football, I hope that's the case this weekend.
37:39And speaking of which, let me jump right to our main story this afternoon and talk about the NFL Top 100, which has been rolling out on Twitter.
37:48And yes, I know what I said. I know what the name is supposed to be.
37:53I also know what the name of the Sears Tower is supposed to be.
37:58I don't say that. I don't say that either.
38:00Consider me FIFA just dropping a banner over what's supposed to be the name.
38:05And we're all going to call it what it's supposed to be called.
38:09But I personally love the Top 100 list because, listen, as somebody who makes his bed by ranking things, by having frivolous
38:16debates on things that don't matter, this speaks to me.
38:19This is exactly what I love. And every year there always seems to be a controversy about a player who's ranked too high, one who's ranked too low.
38:27So this year's player is Jordan Love. And I, who he was, he was ranked number 72, which is hilarious to me
38:34because fans of the NFC North love to have debates about whose quarterback is the best.
38:39Well, not you, Minnesota. You're not involved in that debate, but your quarterback just won a Super Bowl in, in Seattle.
38:46So you do have that going for you. But oftentimes fans in Green Bay say that we don't know ball.
38:52We're delusional if we don't think that Jordan Love is the best, yada, yada, yada.
38:57Well, guess what? It wasn't us who was saying it.
39:00It was the players. The players were the one who went out there and made the vote.
39:05And there are some players who are like, we don't even vote.
39:09It's like, great. You're like those people on Facebook who love to talk about issues.
39:13You're like, hey, but you voted in the last election, right?
39:17Like, no, then shut up. You have no business talking about this.
39:21One guy I know who did vote does have an issue with it.
39:25And it's Micah Parsons. Micah Parsons goes out on Twitter and he goes, hey, I don't know any.
39:30I don't know 71 players better than Jordan Love, which is weird.
39:34Correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't there a player who in the run up to the top 100 when asked who's
39:41the best player in the NFL goes Iceman. Oh, yeah, that was you.
39:45You were the one who said it. Micah Parsons.
39:48Who are you to talk? I understand you want to stick up for your guy now.
39:53It was you. It was you all along who said Caleb was better.
39:57I think you were right the first time. And finally, before I end this segment, I did want to take an opportunity
40:04to congratulate John Riggins, who will have his number officially retired by the Washington commanders.
40:08And I believe this is the biggest. I can't believe this hasn't happened already in Washington right now.
40:14I know there's a lot of people that lie to you and said there's no way that John Riggins will ever have his number retired.
40:22But I'm here to tell you his number is being retired.
40:25I guarantee you his number is being retired and it should be.
40:29And funny enough, I'm old enough to have seen John Riggins make this run in the Super Bowl.
40:34I was alive for that. I saw it. I only bring it up for the benefit of the producers at Jeopardy who
40:41are having a special edition of Jeopardy with ESPN personalities.
40:44And I wasn't invited. This is like having a conversation of who's the greatest current Norwegian and not including Erling Holland.
40:51This is this is crap. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't form that in the phrase of a question.
40:56What is this is crap. Now you can think that I'm an idiot.
41:00Fair enough. I probably am. How am I not a part of this for my Norm MacDonald impersonation?
41:06I look. Hey, Patrick. Hey, look. Hey, big hat there.
41:09Holy Lord. Yeah. I changed the name to turd Ferguson.
41:12How am I? How am I not involved for that, Patrick?
41:16Yeah, I don't know. I will contact the authorities as soon as I figure out who exactly they are.
41:22NFL flag football championships will be on ABC, ESPN, NFL network and ESPN to July 24th through the 26th.

41:30It is time for us to make the case here on the insiders back with us Steve White as well as Mark Ross.
41:37I want to start with this first case to make Mark the team with the most unanswered questions going into training.
41:44Well, this is my hometown of Philadelphia Eagles here for a team with division aspirations Super Bowl aspirations.
41:50Once again, they got a lot of questions namely on the offensive side of the ball starting with that offensive line, which was really what everything starts with.
41:58And can those guys stay healthy? You know, it's a lot of talent, but they fell apart last year because of all the injuries which affected Saquon Barkley.
42:07Can he get back to being the Saquon Barkley that we saw two years ago tearing up the league?
42:13And if he did, if he does, then that affects Jalen hurts who plays his best when the run game is going,
42:20which he can do the play action and then be comfortable in the pocket.
42:24Can he get back to the form that he saw two years ago?
42:28But now we've got a J Brown. His security blanket is gone.
42:32They've made the prolific playmaker there off to the Patriots.
42:35And can they supplement that past game with rookie Makai Lemon?
42:38And so all those question marks with the players and personnel on the offensive, they can get back.
42:44And now you're trusting that to Sean Mannion, the new offensive coordinator.
42:48Is that a wise decision for a guy that's only been coaching for two years, never been a coordinator at any level?
42:55Did play in the NFL while, but now you've got all those question marks of whether he's going to be ready to
43:01step up to make the plays and be the guy there, Steve.
43:05So a lot of question marks on the offense with all those positions and now your coordinator, if he's the right guy for the job.
43:13And Mark, great, great minds think alike because you know, we look at these teams and these new first time offensive coordinators
43:20and I, and I'm going to say the Baltimore Ravens, another team with divisional and Superbowl aspirations.
43:25But again, they've got a new first time play caller and Declan Doyle who comes over.
43:30Now we know this whole coaching staff was uprooted and changed over.
43:34So there's a lot of turnover there. So how is that going to work with Jesse Minter calling the shots?
43:40But whereas you talked about the offensive questions with the Eagles, I'm going to look to the Ravens defense, something that we rarely have to talk about.
43:48Yes, they got Trey Hendrickson there on the edge, but will Nande Matabike, the stud Pro Bowl defensive lineman come back from that neck injury?
43:56Calais Campbell just had a horrible tragedy. Will edge Mike Green ever materialize on offense?
44:01Who will catch the ball outside of Zay Flowers?
44:04There is not a lot of depth at wide receiver or tight end.
44:08So Mark, again, we're looking at two teams that are used to be talking about in the Superbowl conversation that are entering
44:15camp with a lot to prove in terms of having those questions being answered.
44:19And one of those teams has a coach that's been there for a while, had the success.
44:24The other has a new head coach. Yeah. The seat.
44:27We've talked a lot about the people in Philadelphia on today's Insiders.
