3:50One game down, and we have another one tonight.
3:53Football in excess. Rams burning the midnight oil against Christian McCaffrey.
3:56See what we did there. We have the latest from Melbourne ahead of the TNF-NFC Grudge Badge.
4:02Are the Seahawks, meantime, looking for another quarterback? Can't have it for that matter.
4:06How bad is the A.J. Brown injury? We have the day-after injury news from the Stunner in Seattle.
4:12Plus, will Patrick Mahomes be a different player Monday night?
4:16It's exactly nine months after his injury. All of it is next on the NFL Report.
4:21Another edition of the NFL Report. Another game day edition.
4:24We are presented by Nationwide. My name is Andrew Siciliano from our studios in Los Angeles.
4:29Coming up, more moving pictures of the Rams and the 49ers on the field in Melbourne.
4:34Plus, might the Falcons have to go with yet a different quarterback in Pittsburgh Sunday against the Steelers?
4:40That story is coming up. We begin, however, with what is news to me?
4:45Our latest headlines. And we begin with the injury news from Seattle.
4:49The good news and the bad news on Sam Darnold.
4:52The bad news is he is likely out for week two in Arizona.
4:56That's according to NFL Network insider Ian Rappaport. The good news is it looks like last night's hip injury is not as serious as it could have been.
5:05The hip is not broken. Here's Mike McDonald at roughly 6 p.m.
5:09Eastern time. No update, honestly, from earlier. So, but it's been positive news.
5:14So, right now I think we're just working through the extent of the injury and then putting a plan in place to get back rocking and rolling.
5:22So, it is silver lining as we have, you know, some extra time here.
5:27We'll kind of get things back up and running on Monday.
5:30Actual Monday. Calendar Monday, not football Monday. Actually, it'll be Monday.
5:34We'll be back, okay? It'll be a football Monday and a calendar Monday.
5:38So, hopefully by then we'll have a really accurate picture of plan of attack and what we'll do that week.
5:45The good news is Sam Darnold is also in the building.
5:48Mike McDonald, like Kyle Shanahan, doesn't know what day it is.
5:52A.J. Brown, there's this as well. Rappaport, a Mike Arifola report.
5:56It's a high ankle sprain, which is not good.
5:58That usually means multiple games missed. Mike Vrabel got off a red eye, went to the podium in Foxborough, was not ready
6:06to say Brown definitely isn't playing week two, but...
6:09No, I don't think that A.J. will be running more tests, but we'll update you here next week.
6:14He wasn't able to finish the game. And, you know, we'll continue to evaluate, continue to run tests.
6:20But, you know, I don't know if he'll be available going forward here for the next week, but we'll see.
6:27And, you know, I know he'll do everything that he can to get back as quickly as possible.
6:33And once we get the reports, then we'll figure out what the treatment plan is.
6:38By now, you know who won the game. If you didn't, we'll show you the highlight.
6:43They unveiled the championship banner before the game at Lumen Field.
6:46The loudest stadium, hands down to the NFL on a beautiful night.
6:5074 degrees. Everything felt right until early. Look at the clock here.
6:54This is the opening possession. Darnold hit as he threw.
6:57Draymont Jones, the former Titan, played with Vrabel in Tennessee.
7:01Cleveland native. He is the one that got on this.
7:04Looks pretty innocuous. But remember, every hit when you're watching at home, where you don't even look up from your phone, feels
7:11like a car crash to these guys, and Darnold would hop to the locker room.
7:16He would eventually leave and go to the hospital for tests.
7:20He would not be there when JSN, early fourth quarter on a fourth down, takes this from Drew Locke, a play that
7:27they said he hadn't even practiced because Locke is the number two.
7:31You don't get number one reps. That's a 45-yard touchdown, and we are tied.
7:35Now look at the clock. Seattle's out of timeouts.
7:38Just don't do this, Drake May. What are you doing?
7:41He's getting picked by Josh Jobe. Three fourth-quarter picks.
7:44And hi, Bucky Brooks. You caught me just like in stunned disbelief.
7:48Bucky Brooks, who's going to be on NFL Game Day Preview coming up shortly.
7:53Bucky, how do you, if you're Drake May and you were second to the MVP voting, throw the ball away when a
8:00field goal sends the game to overtime? This is the thing.
8:04Like knowing Drake May, going all the way back to our Tar Heel connection, I'm really surprised to see him fall apart in these moments.
8:12I know he had struggles last year in the postseason.
8:15And sometimes you just try to do too much.
8:18In that moment, Drake May was trying to do too much.
8:22But what I'm confident is he's resilient. He and Josh McDaniels will get on the same page.
8:27They'll find a way to minimize and eliminate some of those turnovers.
8:31Because overall, I think the Patriots are good. He's a good player.
8:35He just has to lean back on what he knows to be true.
8:39Take care of the ball. Give the ball to the open man.
8:43And don't try to do too much. Because this offense, this system, the playmakers around him, look, there are plenty of completions baked into it.
8:51He just has to trust what he sees and allow the playmakers to do the work for him.
8:57Look, there were plays to be made. We showed Romeo Dobbs there.
9:01He had the deep ball that he couldn't hang on to, which turned into a pick.
9:06He had the other drop, which proved costly. But, Bucky, real quick, when May threw the ball downfield and tip of the
9:13cap to Mike McDonald and this defense, he was seeing ghosts, to use the Sam Darnold phrase.
9:19Yeah, you know what's interesting, like we can talk about that egregious area at the end, but the one where he threw
9:26over the middle, where they're running basically like a dagger concept.
9:30But the scoring is so far away, I'm like, where is he going with the ball?
9:35He just has to be patient. Take what is there.
9:38Allow the offense to really work for him. He just has to get back to being a very patient and disciplined quarterback.
9:45When he does that, he'll rack up the yards, and he'll get the touchdowns that he wants.
9:51All right, you guys are getting ready for the Rams and the 49ers.
9:55Miles Garrett is on the field. This is at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
9:59He looks rested. He looks ready. By the way, you can see his breath.
10:04It's winter, remember, in Australia. People are all bundled up.
10:07Let's do a primetime preview presented by Nationwide Bucky Brooks.
10:10We'll get to the Rams defense in a second.
10:13Let's start here, however, with the other side of the ball.
10:17Raheem Morris is basically Sean McVay's best friend. Like, if he had to list his besties, Raheem Morris, the new defensive coordinator
10:24of the 49ers, is on that very short list.
10:27What is he throwing at Matthew Stafford tonight? Oh, he's going to throw a bunch of different things at him.
10:34The one thing that we know about Raheem Morris, this defense is going to be a little different than the one that Robert Sala presented.
10:42Robert Sala was a little more static, a little more what you see is what you get.
10:47Raheem Morris is going to change the look. He's really big into having his team's disguise.
10:52They're going to show one look from a single hide and go to split safeties.
10:57They'll do it in inverse, do other things. They're going to make Matthew Stafford have to make reads post-snap.
11:04But it's not really that. Five-man fronts, you're going to see a lot of that.
11:08You're going to see five-man fronts. They're going to try and make sure they take care of the running game.
11:15And then he's going to play peekaboo with who's dropping, who's coming.
11:19He is really going to play games with this front.
11:22We'll see. The DBs from the Niners have talked about how dynamic, how fun it is to play in this defense.
11:29Let's see if they can prevent the big plays from happening.
11:33Because what I do know about Matthew Stafford, there is not a deep ball that he's going to turn down.
11:39He is going to test them. We've got to see if the Niners can stay over the top.
11:45Yeah, he's going to dial it up whenever he has that opportunity.
11:49And the Rams and the Niners split last year.
11:52They split home and home. This is technically a Rams home game.
11:56Conversely, we showed you Miles. First time Chris Shula, no Aaron Donald, but first time Chris Shula gets to take Miles Garrett out on the track.
12:04Early in camp, Bucky, I found it fascinating, he was in the edge meeting room.
12:09In other words, like the linebacker, outside linebacker meeting room.
12:12We're not going to see Miles drop in coverage tonight, are we?
12:16Absolutely not. That would be a fireball offense for Chris Shula if you have Miles Garrett.
12:21The single-segling stat league is dropping back in coverage.
12:24What you're going to see is the 3-4, look, it's all semantics.
12:28They're going to put him on the edge. He's going to rush.
12:32I'm excited to see how the other guys get loose because Miles Garrett commands so much pressure.
12:38Kobe Turner, Byron Young. Byron Young had 12 sacks last year and he didn't have a dominant player opposite him.
12:44So imagine how many one-on-ones he's going to face this year.
12:48And then when they bring that other guy back, you know the three-time defensive player of the year, they're going to be able to get after it.
12:57But against the Niners, that's more than enough to give them problems because if the Niners aren't able to run the ball,
13:04Brock Purdy is going to see a lot of number 95 in his face, but he's also going to see a couple other guys win their one-on-ones.
13:13In obvious passing situations. All right, Bucky, stay right there.
13:16We're going to get some other news in real quick.
13:19Starting in Kansas City, if we could do that with Patrick Mahomes.
13:23We've only done this show a couple of weeks now, but this, I think, and I'm counting, this is the third time
13:30we've done a Mahomes says he's going to be ready to play week one story.
13:35By now, I believe him. He is going to play Monday night.
13:39The Chiefs host the Broncos at Arrowhead. It's going to be exactly nine months to the day since Mahomes torn ACL.
13:46And this has always been the goal is to get out there and play week one.
13:51And so it was a long off season, a lot of work, a lot of great people around me, trainers, Brittany, my family supporting me.
13:59But now we get to go out there and play the sport that I love.
14:04So super excited. I get to play at Arrowhead against a great opponent and then go out there and be myself.
14:11You've got to go out there and be yourself.
14:14I've built up the strength. I've built up all the days of rehab so that I can be myself.
14:20You know, I'm not going to keep myself out of harm's way like I always will.
14:25I try to take big hits and stuff like that.
14:29But I'm a competitor. I signed up for this and I'm going to go out there and play football.
14:35And I think that's how I've always rolled no matter what it is.
14:39And that's how I'll probably roll the rest of my career.
14:43No, I think that's what makes me who I am is that I just love competing.
14:48You know, playing quarterback is one thing, but you've got to love competing to have success in this league.
14:54And you see that with the guys around this league nowadays.
14:58And so I'll try not to lay any blocks, hopefully, unless it's needed.
15:02But other than that, I'm going to go out there and be myself and play football.
15:07And we've built up all this strength over the offseason for that.
15:11And so why not go out and maximize it?
15:14Get it. Mahomes, he's good. Tua, not good necessarily.
15:17Tua's status, I beg your pardon, for week number one is very much up in the air now.
15:23He's the Falcons QB one for now, but he dropped to his knees in practice today and he grabbed his back.
15:29The team says it's an oblique injury. He's officially limited.
15:33They're in Pittsburgh Sunday. And today, Cooper Rush took all the reps with the ones.
15:38Yeah, we took the whole practice. So early on, got told I was going, so we went.
15:43How much does even just one day like that help get everything?
15:47Huge. It's huge. All those reps matter. It's a big advantage for me, especially, you know, if you have to go in
15:54there, at least you had some reps. Bucky Brooks, am I crazy if I say I think the Falcons have a better chance to win in Pittsburgh?
16:03Stefanski's never done that, by the way, with Cooper Rush.
16:06You're crazy. And that's so disrespectful to Tua Tagovailoa.
16:09He led the league in passing a few years ago.
16:12Led the league in completion percentage a few years ago.
16:16We're going to talk about Cooper Rush with 17 starts.
16:19It's an upgrade over Tua Tagovailoa. Here's what I'll say in a one-game deal with Kevin Stefanski.
16:25If Kevin Stefanski is smart, he's going to make sure that it goes to the playmakers.
16:30B. John Robinson should have a heavy workload. Find a way to get some easy completions to Drake London, Kyle Pitts, some
16:37of the other playmakers on the perimeter. This is one where you go to the team and say, hey, let's make it easy for Cooper Rush.
16:45Let's not put too much on him. We can put it on the other guys, the defense, the playmakers, the weapons, and
16:53let's find a way to get a win. It's going to be tough in Pittsburgh, but remember this about Pittsburgh.
16:59Mike McCartney's first game in Pittsburgh, he is also acclimating to a team.
17:03So if Kevin Stefanski is going to go and steal a win in the Berg, this is the best time to do
17:10it, even if he has to go in there with Cooper Rush.
17:14Technically, Stefanski's Browns did win in Pittsburgh in the postseason in 2020, but Stefanski wasn't there.
17:20He was in his basement. With COVID. Bucky Brooks in the studio for NFL Game Day Preview.
17:25Coming up with Cody Kessler, Mike Yam, anywhere on NFL Channel.
17:29Thank you, Bucky Brooks. Meantime, let's get to Cincinnati for some Bengals news.
17:33Jamar Chase is good to go. They play the Buccaneers on Sunday.
17:37No injury designation. Full participant today with the knee.
17:40FYI, Jamar, the game is at 1 o'clock. I don't have none this year besides make it to the Super Bowl, win the AFC.
17:48So that's my only goal this year. A lot of the stuff can come by itself.
17:53When you look ahead to Sunday, first game, what excites you most about that day, getting out there?
17:59Well, I'm finding out the games at 1 o'clock.
18:02I don't like that. To be honest. I do not like planning at 1 o'clock games.
18:07So that means I got to wake up a little earlier than usual.
18:11When did you find this out? Today. I've heard two.
18:14Yeah, yeah, yeah. So what's your wake-up call? I don't have a wake-up call, but I'm about to make one now.
18:21I'm about to make one now. Yeah. The game's at 1, Jamar.
18:25By the way, do people still get wake-up calls?
18:28Is that a thing? Bryce Young is about to start his fourth year with the Panthers Sunday.
18:34They get the Bears. But Young will do so without a new contract, despite being extension eligible for six months now.
18:40Listen to the owner, David Tepper. You know, that's a question for Dan Morgan.
18:45If you need his number, I'll give it to you.
18:48No, you don't want to bring him over here.
18:51Sure, well, you can talk to him. Go grab him.
18:54You may talk to him. Well, do you envision what would prompt you guys to offer him an extension?
19:01I'm not saying we have or we haven't either.
19:04You should talk to Dan. Look, success is success, and you know it when you see it.
19:09All right. Maybe they get success, and maybe they beat the Bears on Sunday.
19:14Meantime in Green Bay, Packers running back Josh Jacobs pleaded no contest today to multiple misdemeanors, including battery.
19:20This is after a May domestic incident. The battery charge is a $1,000 fine.
19:24The other charge can be dismissed in a year if Jacobs fulfills the terms of an agreement with prosecutors.
19:30Jacobs still right now on the commissioner's exempt list.
19:33Packers get the Vikings on Sunday without Josh Jacobs.
19:36Coming up next on the NFL Report, we spin the QB carousel.
19:40What does year three look like for Jaden Daniels in Washington as they open up at the NFC East against the Eagles?
19:47That's next. This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human.
19:50The entire draft room groans because you just took the guy they wanted.
19:54There's no better feeling than crushing your fantasy football league.
19:58I'm JJ Zacharyson, host of the award-winning Late Round Podcast.

22:08It ends September 21st. That's coming up soon. Sign up today at plus.nfl.com.
22:13Plus.nfl.com. Terms and conditions do apply. It's an eight-game early, four-game late kind of Sunday, Sunday, Sunday for week number one.
22:19Here's what your schedule looks like. Mention Bryce Young.
22:22He and the Panthers get the Bears early. Bengals, Bucs, Saints, Lions.
22:26You see how this whole thing plays out. Eight games in that early window.
22:31Go sit on the couch. Go enjoy it. The late window has four games and some interesting ones.
22:37Chargers, a huge favorite at home against Mike LaFleur and the Cardinals.
22:41You got the Dolphins and the Raiders. Commanders and the Eagles.
22:44Cowboys-Giants are the Sunday night game in New York.
22:47Broncos-Chiefs, the Monday night game. Only one Monday night game this year.
22:51That game is on ESPN. Let's focus on that Packers-Vikings game.
22:55Let's do it. NFC North. That game is at US Bank.
22:58It's going to be Kyler Murray's Minneapolis debut. He is set to become the fourth different week one starting quarterback for Justin
23:05Jefferson and the Vikings in the last four seasons.
23:08I've kind of known his personality. I know just how he is as a person, as a player.
23:14So nothing really surprised me. What surprised me is his arm talent.
23:18Him being able to come out here and lead the guys every single day in practice and being vocal and just being
23:25more of a leader than I've seen in Arizona.
23:28So it's really cool just seeing him kind of step up into a road that we really needed him to really be in.
23:36Kyler Murray and Justin Jefferson playing for the Vikings.
23:39And Malik Willis takes the Dolphins into Vegas. It's one of the four games in the late window.
23:44All we've been talking about in this game is Fernando Mendoza.
23:48He's not even playing. Willis is, and he's doing so at 27 with the youngest roster in the league, average age 25.
23:55Just taking it one play at a time, making sure we're prepared before we even get there.
24:01And that's the main thing. Each week you've got to prepare.
24:04So when the game comes, it's a lot easier as far as mental, gymnastics, and hoops that you have to go through to execute a play.
24:13I mean, we'll get, I don't know how many reps.
24:16We've got 80 reps today. We'll continue to just build and get those reps, mental reps, and just continue to learn and get better.
24:24Obviously, there's going to be mistakes, but if we can learn from those mistakes in the long run, we'll be better off.
24:31Let's talk about the commanders. Does anyone have a feel for them at all this year?
24:36Last year, Jaden Daniels missed 10 games, knee, hamstring, elbow.
24:40When he was on the field, however, Washington was 2-5.
24:43I just think I didn't get into a flow, you know, in and out the lineup with injuries.
24:49But, you know, as for all the analytics people, stats, whatever, it is what it is, man.
24:54What I did year one, what I did year two, doesn't matter.
24:58I mean, that's what people are going to talk about, you know, recency, biases, and all that.
25:04Year two, it is what it is. Now we're on the year three.
25:08You know, whatever happens on Sunday, that's what people are going to talk about more than what they talk about year two.
25:15On to the next one. And it's going to be Daniels facing Jalen Hurts Sunday for the first time since they met
25:22in the NFC Championship game at the end of the 24 season.
25:26Daniels rookie season. And stop me if you've heard this before, but Hurts has yet another new offensive coordinator.
25:32This time it's Sean Mannion. He's the fifth since 2021.
25:36It's an ongoing thing. It's every year. Every year is different.
25:39And you assess it given where you are. And I think we're just going on our journey.
25:45We're on our process right now. So we're here.
25:48We've had our first day of practice in this official week, and we're just building from there.
25:53We're taking it a day at a time. Yeah, we're taking it a day at a time.
25:59I think the guys have built a lot of confidence, and we've gotten a lot of reps, and we've been very intentional over the time we've shared together.
26:08So we're just going to continue to work. Hurts and the Eagles were in the community Wednesday.
26:13They joined a nonprofit 9-11 day Wednesday in Philly for a large-scale meal pack event at the stadium Lincoln Financial Field for
26:21something called Philabundance, which is a local food pantry that addresses food insecurity through hunger relief efforts in the city.
26:27Great job by the Eagles helping out those who gave their lives or the families of those who gave their lives on 9-11.
26:35First responders, recovery workers, volunteers, and others in that Philadelphia community.
26:38Meantime, up the road in New York, the Jets had players visit the 9-11 Memorial and Museum alongside Chairman Woody Johnson, Vice
26:45Chairman Christopher Johnson, and former quarterback Vinny Testa Verde.
26:48The visit gave an opportunity for players to reflect on 9-11 while learning more about the museum's mission.
26:54And it's an amazing museum. I highly recommend you go.
26:57So remembrance, education, and honoring those that we lost on that day 25 years ago.
27:02We continue on the NFL Report and we go back to the football.
27:07We'll tell you who is up and who is down.
27:10Actives and inactives from Melbourne. We got a game tonight.
27:13Don't go anywhere. Last night was fun. Let's play another game tonight.
27:17This game is the first ever in Australia. The Melbourne Cricket Ground.
27:21Isn't she lovely? This is from the Rams Twitter.
27:24By the way, we have actives and inactives. It's going to be Stetson Bennett as QB2 tonight for the Rams.
27:30The rookie 13th overall pick Ty Simpson is officially the number three emergency quarterback.
27:35And if you had any doubt, George Kittle and Nick Bosa both up and active and playing tonight for the San Francisco 49ers.
27:42That game is on the Netflix, as my dad would say.
27:46Let's do some quick hits, some breaking news as well.
27:49More details on Sam Darnold's injury from our old friend Tom Pellisso now working for the Netflix.
27:55Tests showed that Sam Darnold has an unusual muscle strain in his hip area.
27:59Tom says right now, no consideration of injured reserve, but his timetable to return remains TBD.
28:05Long weekend, obviously, for the Seahawks. They played on a Wednesday.
28:08Next up, they are in Arizona on a Sunday for week number two.
28:12The Bears play the Panthers and Roma Dunze status is very much up in the air.
28:18The Chicago wide receiver was a limited participant today in practice.
28:21He has a calf injury. The official injury report comes out Friday.
28:25It's back to that time of the year. We'll see what Roma Dunze status is when the Bears have to file that coming up tomorrow.
28:33Meantime, in New Orleans, Alvin Kamara also limited at practice today.
28:37He is, however, expected to play for the Saints week number one.
28:41They get the Lions. Kamara has a knee injury.
28:44He is kind of RB2 behind Travis HN, the running back formerly known as Travis Etienne.
28:49Okay, time for one more thing before we go.
28:52Jamar Chase is one of my favorite people. He was on the podium today.
28:56He waxed poetic for about 20 minutes, entertaining the Cincinnati media, talked about his new podcast, all those things.
29:03He also revealed that he now refers to his teammate, his running buddy T Higgins, as Black Jesus.
29:08Why, Jamar, do you call him that? He says it's an inside joke.
29:13Okay, well, tell us. He said, well, they were hanging out recently.
29:17And T Higgins smiled. And he said it brightened up the entire room and everybody was walking on air.
29:23So your new name, T Higgins, Black Jesus, whether you like it or not, that man is just the baddest man alive.
29:30Can I go back and quote Kyle Hamilton, the Ravens' safety on the top 100?
29:35He said, if the aliens ever attack the Earth, that we should all as Earthlings bring Miles Garrett to the aliens and say, this is our best human.
29:44He is our last hope to defend the planet against the aliens.
29:48That's Miles Garrett getting ready for his first game as a Ram.
29:52And I mentioned George Kittle. Here he is. He is on the field.
29:56Kittle is up and Kittle is active and Kittle is back from an Achilles injury.
30:01Not one that happened midseason. Not one that happened in August.
30:04George Kittle's injury happened in the playoffs in January.
30:07And he's back, as is Nick Bosa. So the only real question mark for this one was Aaron Donald, and he never even got on the plane.
30:16All the other injury question marks for this game, they have been answered, and they are going to be on the field.
30:23Rams, if you're keeping track at home, also have 2-2 Atwell down.
30:27Their former third-round pick, wide receiver, reacquired from the Dolphins a couple of weeks ago.
30:322-2 is inactive. Stetson Bennett, QB2, and Ty Simpson is the emergency quarterback.
30:36That's going to do it for us. Remember, we're here 7 o'clock Eastern time every day for the NFL Report.
30:43Coming up next, however, if you are watching the NFL channel, may I highly recommend, because it is a game day, NFL game day preview.
30:51Mike Yam is hosting the show. Bucky Brooks, who you just saw, is on the show.
30:56And Browns legend Cody Kessler is on the show as well.
