0:00This is an iHeart Podcast. Guaranteed human. Vikings in wait and see mode with Kyler Murray's concussion but loved what they saw from Carson Wentz.
0:08A QB call is coming. Same goes for the Falcons but no rush to name a Week 2 starter as Tua Tungabailoa sits out of practice again.
0:17And Joe Burrow dealing with some post-game soreness in his back while trying not to end up on his back in Houston this week.
0:25Hello everybody, welcome to The Insiders presented by Progressive Insurance alongside Mike Garafolo.
0:30I am Brett Coleman. Let's begin with what is new today and that takes us to Minnesota where Kyler Murray was limited in practice today.
0:38Still in that concussion protocol following his exit from the Vikings week one win over the Packers.
0:43And as Minnesota prepares for Week 2 here, even though Murray is limited, his operation as a quarterback as Kevin O'Connell tells us isn't all that different.
0:52Yeah, the good thing is you know, the amount of reps he got.
0:57From, you know, obviously competing and then being named the starter.
1:00He's got a lot of reps logged away. But yeah, we're really taking it, you know, kind of period by period as far as the plan we have.
1:10But we want to be monitoring, you know, how he's doing from a standpoint of that limited participation.
1:16It's a little bit more of a, you know, a vague thing at the quarterback position just because they're in red jerseys
1:23anyway all the way up until game time. So we'll kind of just deal with it as it comes to us.
1:30All right, welcoming Adam Schefter with us on the Insiders today as well.
1:34Adam, starting here with Minnesota, certainly some variables there with Kyler Murray in the concussion protocol.
1:40What is the latest on how the Vikings are approaching the QB question this week?
1:45Well, Rhett, the fact that he was limited today tells you that at least he is progressing through concussion protocol at this point in time.
1:53Now, it's still hard to imagine that a player in the fencing posture on Sunday with brain trauma is going to go
2:00through concussion trauma and clear in time to play Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
2:05But they're certainly going to give it a shot.
2:08And Kyler Murray was limited today. Now, if he can't go, then Carson Wentz would be the next man in line and
2:15he would be the starting quarterback for the Vikings.
2:18But they're not ready to rule out Kyler Murray yet.
2:21Limited today. And we'll see how he fares the rest of this week in practice.
2:26And it seems like, and again, we see this often with concussions, Adam.
2:31It's a pass-fail type thing. It's not, well, it's a sprained ankle.
2:35Could he power through it? If he clears protocol and he is given the green light, Kyler Murray is expected to be the guy.
2:43Still QB1 for the Vikings. And you heard Kevin O'Connell talk about all the reps that he banked.
2:49They made that call relatively early in training camp to make him the quarterback, the starting quarterback, and announced him as QB1 as well.
2:57So that helped it along the way. However, if he is unable to go, you got Carson Wentz, who played well in
3:04relief, played well last year as well for the Vikings.
3:07A big reason why they wanted him back as they worked through several scenarios at the quarterback position here.
3:13So they certainly have the confidence and have prepared enough.
3:17I'll put it there. I mean, they've prepared enough as if he's going to be the guy this week, that if that
3:24winds up being the case, I believe they're fully comfortable with Carson Wentz as their starter this weekend.
3:30Two of his three passing touchdowns going to Justin Jefferson, who had just two all season a year ago.
3:36So a positive development on that front indeed. Okay, another quarterback question certainly in Atlanta.
3:41Falcons going through that similar uncertainty. Tua Tagovailoa, no practice today.
3:45Michael Penix still working his process, coming back from off-season knee surgery.
3:49While, of course, the week one starter Cooper Rush out there as well.
3:53So Stefanski, they're keeping all options open in Atlanta.
3:56Do you have a QB yet for this week?
3:59We will have a quarterback, yes, for this week.
4:02Not yet, but we'll work through that this week.
4:05What do you need to see between now and tomorrow?
4:08I'd say we're working through it. I'm not ruling anyone out.
4:12Tua's not going to practice today, but he's getting better.
4:15Cooper and Mike will practice today. So we'll work through it.
4:19Does that mean there's still a chance that Mike could play this weekend?
4:23Yeah, I'm not trying to be coy. Just not ruling anybody out.
4:27Continue to work through it. We're all on the same page between myself, the medical team, Mike.
4:33We'll work through all those things. So it would appear that someone was typing faster in that room than Kevin Stefanski is
4:40ready to make a decision on the quarterback situation here, Mike.
4:44What do the Falcons need to see from Michael Penix to know that he's ready to roll?
4:50Jack Strand, quarterback four. Do I hear Jack Strand?
4:53Step on up. Yeah, what do they need to see out of Michael Penix?
4:57It sounded like at some point they need to see a full week of full reps.
5:03And Cooper Rush telling reporters afterward that he split reps with Michael Penix in practice.
5:08He wasn't sure of the exact split, but he split reps there.
5:12It seems like they're working through both here. Penix still needs to get to the point where he's fully comfortable and the team's fully comfortable.
5:20You know, there's medical clearance and then there's the full clearance and the mental clearance that you're ready to go out there
5:27and to take hits on the field. Speaking of taking hits, heard this today.
5:32He was running the scout team last week and he got hit a couple times as the scout team quarterback, which I
5:39guess is a sort of a good thing because you could take a hit in practice that maybe gets you ready for the real thing.
5:47But I would say to the defenders, stay away from the left-handed guy in the red jersey.
5:53Both of the left-handed guys in the red jersey.
5:56Don't hit him when he's running the scout team.
5:59We'll see about his progression through the week. Mike, correct me if I'm wrong.
6:04Is there another team in the league that has a stenographer that works as quickly as the Falcons stenographer?
6:10It's pretty good. There is. Right? I don't think so.
6:13You have to check with research on that. I don't think so.
6:17Now, they may have a stenographer, but they don't have a quarterback right now.
6:22And the question will be who will start on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
6:27Now, the way it was described to me over the weekend was the Falcons didn't know whether it would be another week or another month on Pennix.
6:35Obviously, they're anxious to get him back, but he's going to come back at his schedule, at his pace, when he's good
6:43and ready and comfortable to come back. Maybe that will be this week in time for the game on Sunday.
6:49But if it's not, they'll have the same quarterback lineup as last week with Cooper Rush, Jack Strand out there.
6:56But they don't have an answer right now. All options are on the table.
7:01But when Tua doesn't practice to start the week, that certainly seems like he would not be in the discussion this week.
7:08And we'll see which of the other three quarterbacks emerges.
7:11This NFC South matchup ahead, Panthers and Falcons here in week two.
7:15Okay, let's get to the Houston Texans coming off a loss to the Bills in week one, trying to tighten up ahead
7:23of their week two, tighten up on defense, ahead of their week two matchup with the Bengals.
7:28That's after allowing Josh Allen and the Bills to put up over 400 yards of total offense and 36 points.
7:35In Cincinnati, the only tightness they're concerned with is associated with Joe Burrow's back.
7:40How are you feeling? I feel good. It's a normal game day soreness, that's for sure.
7:45But I'll be right. Can you think I'm going to include you with a fight on Sunday?
7:50No. No. What kind of source of the soreness?
7:53What kind of hit presumably on that go down?
7:56I don't know specifically what play. I didn't really start feeling until after the game.
8:01That's typically how it happens. Do you plan to practice for us?
8:05The beakers, is it going to be something where you're just going to rest it?
8:10We'll see how we feel tomorrow. Shoulder. Back tightness.
8:13Is there any part of you that doesn't play on Sunday?
8:17I'm not sure. No. What? That's ridiculous. Okay, Adam.
8:20Joe Burrow clearly brushing this off. But I think any time you see the Bengals quarterback listed as a limited participant, there is some antennas going up.
8:29Is there more concern here for Burrow? Well, it's a back, it's back tightness, and it's Joe Burrow.
8:35So when you combine all those factors together, it has to be a concern, even though he does expect to be out
8:42there on Sunday in Houston against the Texans. One year ago, Burrow missed the nine games with turf toe injury.
8:49The team didn't recover without him. It's an entirely different team when he's out there, but he wasn't out there at practice
8:56today, even though he expects to be out there on Sunday against the Texans.
9:01If he's good, this team is good. If he's not healthy and he's not right, this team isn't healthy and right.
9:08And backs are unpredictable. You just don't know how they're going to go.
9:12But hopefully it's nothing more than tightness. And he's able to play on Sunday to give the Bengals the best chance they would have.
9:20Yeah, and they need a good shot against this Texans defense, despite what you saw in week one from them.
9:27A lot of points put up. Give Buffalo credit.
9:30Buffalo is a terrific offense led by a head coach now who's got the consistency with Josh Allen.
9:36You know, you'd prefer to win the game, obviously, right?
9:39In Houston. That's what you wanted. But I do get the sense that this is like, OK, this could be sort of a good thing, right?
9:48This is a reality check for our guys right off the bat.
9:52And you did hear D'Amico Ryan say, we can't just assume what we did last year is going to carry over to this year.
10:00We've got to get to work. So it was a bit of a check for them.
10:05And that can turn out to be a good thing.
10:08It's a long season. And obviously what happens in week one will be a distant memory.
10:13I don't know, by the time we get to October.
10:17So looking for the Texans to bounce back here.
10:20They did lose Henry Tooto to an injury that's going to keep him out longer than the four weeks he's going to be on injury reserve.
10:28Sounds like maybe even double that with that shoulder injury.
10:32So that's a tough loss there. But certainly plenty of talent left on that defense to survive that.
10:38Yeah, no question. One of the best edge tandems in football there with Will Anderson and Beniel Hunter.
10:44OK, might as well just make it a clean sweep with QB injuries to open the show here.
10:50Once feared to be a significant hip problem, suffered in the opener a week ago.
10:55Sam Darnold receiving positive news on what was being called now a glute injury.
10:59But Darnold officially ruled out for Sunday's game against Arizona, which was expected, but is avoiding a trip to injured reserve.
11:06Still to come on the insiders. Jerry Jones communicating to the world.
11:10The Cowboys Super Bowl expectation remains unchanged. Despite a disappointing week one outing ahead, how improved comms on defense could aid that quest.
11:18Plus, show one of the Rodgers-McCarthy reunion tour was a banger.
11:21By the way, Rodgers feels after the win, good point to an encore in week two.
11:27September football, it's usually bumpy like that. Let's give it up for the defense.
11:31Enjoy this thing, OK? Enjoy it. Enjoy your family.
11:34To your friends, take care of one another. TJ, give me a break.
11:39Oh! This is his first win. In his hometown, he's from Greenfield Avenue.
11:43I know this means a lot to him. OK?
11:46First win for Pittsburgh, Mike McCarthy. Thank you. Three.
11:49One, two, three. See you. Cool scene right there in a winning locker room with Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers back together again.
11:57Brooke Pryor joining us now for more. Brooke, Aaron Rodgers talked about how much better he's feeling following the week one win this year compared to last.
12:06What's been the difference for him? Well, Rhett, apparently it's because he didn't hurt himself squatting this year.
12:12He said last year during week one, he injured himself doing a squat, and that led to some discomfort after week one going into week two.
12:20He said he feels great this year, and I asked him if that's something that he's had to learn about getting older,
12:27figuring out how much you can do. And he said, yeah, that's been the case for about the last 10 years, trying
12:35to gauge how much he can work out, how he needs to juggle all of those things.
12:40But one thing that he mentioned, his arm feels great.
12:44And that is especially notable because the Steelers threw the ball 40 times against the Atlanta Falcons.
12:49By the way, Mike McCarthy said that he would like to, you know, maybe have a little bit more balance.
12:56They did run the ball 18 times, said he'd like to see that number between 25 and 30.
13:02But Aaron Rodgers said he's not worried about it and that Mike McCarthy knows that he would like to keep throwing the ball.
13:10Another person who is feeling better, by the way, is cornerback Joey Porter Jr.
13:14He was limited in practice today, but Mike McCarthy said that he's going to continue to ramp things up.
13:21He did more today than he did last week.
13:24And while he was limited on the practice report, it's important to note the injury designation did not say back.
13:30Instead, it said conditioning, not injury related. So that means that back injury that kept him on pup during training camp, that's resolved.
13:38And it's now about ramping him up to football speed.
13:41OK, an important distinction there as the Steelers get ready for a game against the Patriots here in week two.
13:48Brooke, thanks very much. Speaking of the New England Patriots, let's get to it.
13:52A week ago today, Drake May was tossing interceptions on the Patriots' final three possessions and a loss to the Seahawks to kick off the regular season.
14:01Mike Reese now with more on May's effort to refine his decision-making process.
14:06Brett, Drake May said moving on from the week one loss was tougher than the norm.
14:11He had more time to think about it than the usual 24 hours.
14:15One theme he highlighted Wednesday, the importance of making better decisions.
14:19As the quarterback, he said, every decision has a heightened consequence on the team.
14:24On the injury front, good news for the Patriots.
14:27Running back Travion Henderson, nine rushing touchdowns last season, was a full participant in practice on Wednesday after missing the opener with an ankle injury.
14:35Henderson's return could help ease the blow of being without wide receiver A.J.
14:39Brown. At receiver, veteran Mack Hollins has led the pass catchers through drills the last two practices.
14:45He's the most likely candidate to start in place of Brown.
14:48Rhett? Okay, Mike, certainly keeping an eye on that receiver group in New England.
14:53The Cowboys and Commanders both looking to bounce back from week one losses.
14:57Cowboys trying to avoid starting 0-2 for the first time since 2010.
15:01Head coach Brian Schottenheimer speaking earlier on what went wrong week one and how they can avoid those back-to-back losses.
15:08There's a lot that goes into it, and I'm chalking it up to the fact that it was our first game.
15:15And, again, like I said, we were making calls.
15:18We just weren't making them all the time and then receiving them all the time.
15:23And so that's why you saw some of the things where it looked like, you know, they got us on three different plays.
15:31Those were actually three different calls, three different defensive calls.
15:34And so, you know, that's us not being on the same page.
15:38And defense, team defense, is about all 11 guys being on the same page.
15:43I mean, I've never been around any good defense that if you don't have all 11 guys on the same page, it's
15:50usually not going to be very good. The plan was fine, you know.
15:54We just, you know, we didn't execute the way that we needed to.
15:58And I know CP and I, you know, talked.
16:01I mean, shoot first play of the game, the first play call year, I hated it.
16:07I thought it was a terrible call by me.
16:10And they shoved it up our butt. That's the first time I haven't sworn in the last three days.
16:16But, you know, CP had a couple calls he'd like to have back.
16:20But, you know, we're in this thing together. Offense, defense, coaches, players, special teams.
16:25And we just didn't play to our standard. Jane Slater joining us now with the Cowboys.
16:30Today, Brian Schottenheimer talking a lot about those miscommunications leading to some of the missed assignments, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
16:38Have they pinpointed why that was such an issue here in week one?
16:43Well, it was an issue in week one last year too, Rhett.
16:47So I'm getting a little bit of deja vu, especially when you consider that this is a relatively new roster on that side of the ball.
16:55And you've got a new defensive coordinator. So I went to the players to try and get an explanation.
17:02And it was Donovan Ezeraku, their defensive end, who gave me the most succinct response when I went down this, to run
17:09this quote down and get this to be explained to me.
17:12He told me, quote, communication is two-way, right? It's giving and receiving.
17:16That's just something we've got to tighten up. You know, things are a little different when things are flying around on Sunday
17:24night, as opposed to it being in practice or camp.
17:27First week is never clean. There are obviously going to be mistakes.
17:31I mean, during the preseason, a lot of the starters didn't really play.
17:35And therein lies a talking point worth kicking around, Rhett.
17:39The Cowboys have historically not played starters in the preseason, but in a new system with so many faces, could they have
17:46knocked off some of the rust we saw Sunday night?
17:49Head coach Brian Schottenheimer told us it was a point of a big emphasis in practice this week, all about that communication.
17:57You know, one of the big things that we talked about this offseason was the green dot.
18:02A lot of people laughed. Why do you care so much about it?
18:07Well, we cared a lot about it because we wanted to know who was going to wear it.
18:13DeMarvy and Overshoun weren't in the game. And then when he went down, they gave it to the rookie.
18:19That was, of course, Jaishan Barham instead of the veteran D winners.
18:23Will that still be the case this week? We'll have to see.
18:27And I'm not saying that it was the reason for the confusion at times.
18:31But as one player put it to me, the green dot is more than just relaying those plays.
18:37The person also has to relay a coaching tip or a way to play a guy or two.
18:43And look, the guys tell me they are not panicked.
18:47They hear what everybody is saying, but they are locked in.
18:50They don't feel like this scheme needs to change, that it's not overcomplicated.
18:55We heard that last year. But they are moving forward.
18:58One quick note, Malik Davis, he went down and was carted off the field with a hip injury on Friday.
19:05It was a no-contact situation at practice. He's out for the season.
19:09It was Javante Williams who told me that he was at the facility today with his parents.
19:14He was getting treatment. He addressed the team. It was good to hear from him, to know that he's good.
19:21But, of course, he's got a long rehab ahead of him.
19:25Yeah. Well, look, certainly the offense still has their issues to work out as well, as Brian Schottenheimer mentioned.
19:31Getting that run game going will be a big part of it.
19:35Thanks very much, Jane Slater. Still to come here on The Insiders.
19:39Eagles got the win in Week 1. But is it enough now to quell any questions about a new offensive system that
19:46produced as many three and outs as any team in Week 1?
19:50Details ahead. I'm Brett Coleman. And I'm Trevor Sikama.

23:46Every Sunday, the game day lineup has you covered from sunrise to the final whistle.
23:51Game day morning gets you set. Game day live keeps you in it.
23:55And game day highlights is there so you can catch every big play you miss.
24:00Tune in Sunday only on NFL Network and now also streaming on the ESPN app.
24:05You had in-game highlight updates from the Eagles win in the opener.
24:09They led for nearly the entire game in that 24-22 victory over the Commanders.
24:14But that new offense led by offensive coordinator Sean Mannion also produced five three-and-outs on the day.
24:19And now travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans.
24:22Where head coach Nick Sirianni is less concerned with how the wins stack up, but just that they do keep stacking up.
24:30Regardless of if you win or if you lose, there's going to be things that you're going to want back in every single game.
24:38And you're going to need to improve on in every single game.
24:42And it's freaking hard to win in this league.
24:45I mean, it is extremely, extremely hard. It's, you know, I think you ever seen that Seinfeld where Kramer promises a kid
24:52that Paul O'Neal is going to hit home runs?
24:55It's hard to hit home runs. Yeah, and where'd you get two?
24:59He's like, two's better than one. He's like, how'd you get in here?
25:03But it's hard to win. And so you have to enjoy it because you know you're going to go right back to work, win or lose.
25:12And we're going to sit here and we're all going to take ownership of the tape.
25:17And naturally, as humans, you tend to look at the negatives more than you look at the positives.
25:23But there are so many positives. It's so important that that joy comes after every time.
25:28I already know how I'm going to feel if we lose.
25:32That is a feeling that it's hard to get over.
25:35So you better appreciate the things that and know how hard it is and appreciate those things after a win.
25:42Solid Seinfeld reference. Seinfeld reference there from Nick Sirianni.
25:45Look, there's still plenty of positives from the offense, right?
25:48I mean, they averaged six yards a play. Dontavion Wicks had a nice debut.
25:53How are the Eagles viewing the offensive trend line?
25:56Yeah, Rhett, this Sunday, Dallas Goddard has to catch a pass in his helmet.
26:01So if you haven't seen that episode, go check it out.
26:04They are, look, and you can actually see it with some of the plays we showed there.
26:10The feeling is that the plays were there to be had, right?
26:14And the design and the thought process and the concept behind them was good.
26:19Landon Dickerson missed the block. Somebody left somebody else on block.
26:22Somebody didn't run the right route, right? Like, that's the sense I'm getting down there is that they were close.
26:29And part of this is going to go back to Nick Sirianni not playing his guys in the preseason.
26:35I mean, that's going to be sort of a theme here with some of the offenses that were sluggish with Jim Harbaugh
26:42saying, I wish we played our guys in the preseason.
26:46So they need to be more smoother. There seems to be a little bit of grace on this one from Philadelphia.
26:53But that won't last long, right? Especially if you don't win the game.
26:57So we'll see how quickly things can start to speed up a little bit in some of these concepts and ideas, Adam, to be hit on.
27:06Well, Mike, one of the reasons you don't play players in the preseason is to avoid injuries.
27:11And yet, here the Eagles are with suddenly some notable injuries heading into Sunday's game.
27:16Jalen Carter didn't practice today. Wrist injury. Cooper Dejean didn't practice today.
27:20He's got a calf and an abdomen. Now, he said he would play on Sunday.
27:25So we'll see how that goes. Jonathan Gernard still is dealing with his pec injury.
27:30Was limited in practice. We'll see if he makes it back.
27:34And you mentioned Landon Dickerson, who struggled over the weekend.
27:37And he now is on injury reserve. So there are some holes that they have to replace going into what should be a hostile environment.
27:46There was not a lot of life and energy in Tennessee last week against the Jets.
27:51It feels like that stadium and that team itself will be a little bit more alive on Sunday against a tougher Eagles team.
27:58Yeah, Adam, the Packers found themselves in a hostile environment on Sunday in Minneapolis.
28:03Certainly after a turnover on downs following a decision to take a field goal off the board after a penalty kicked off a furious Vikings rally to win.
28:12Handing the Packers their sixth straight loss going back to last season.
28:16Matt LaFleur, Packers head coach. Now with more on what he expects from his guys as they head on the road to face the Jets.
28:25Well, I think that's to be seen, but I would expect them to react positively.
28:30I think they're going to take the coaching. They're going to take it to heart.
28:35I know that's a prideful group. And, you know, we're just looking at to get a little bit better each and every day.
28:42Okay, again, looking at the first 14 weeks of last season when the Packers went 9-3-1 and then 0-5, 0-6 since week 15 of 2025.
28:51Averaging about five points per game less. Allowing almost 11 points more on defense.
28:55And as you can see, the point differential makes a difference there.
28:59Interesting here, of course, that that losing streak does coincide with the Micah Parsons season-ending knee injury.
29:05Still a few weeks away from talking about a return there with Parsons.
29:09But how are the Packers kind of processing this loss here, Adam?
29:13Right, it's hard to imagine that a team this talented has lost six straight games.
29:18And I think when the schedule came out, everybody looked at the schedule and said, Okay, New York, the second week of
29:25the season, playing the Jets, put that down as a W.
29:29But when you lose in Minnesota and give up big plays to Justin Jefferson for touchdowns, and you come away with a
29:36loss against Carson Wentz and the Vikings, and now you have to go to New York to play Geno Smith and the
29:44Jets, the idea of starting the season 0-2 on a seven-game losing streak seems almost unfathomable.
29:49And yet, that is the position that the Green Bay Packers are in today.
29:54It sets up a fascinating matchup on Sunday between the Jets, who seem resurgent under Aaron Glenn, and the Packers, who are
30:01now struggling under Matt LaFleur and trying to avoid a seventh straight loss.
30:05Yeah, and Adam, for the Jets, certainly following a couple of injury updates there, as well as some from around the league.
30:12What do you have for us on that front?
30:15A couple of injuries of note. Omar Cooper Jr., the Jets' first-round draft pick, wide receiver, didn't practice today.
30:22He's dealing with a high ankle sprain. He won't play on Sunday.
30:26Minka Fitzpatrick, their veteran leader safety, he's dealing with a groin injury.
30:30He didn't practice today. He won't play on Sunday.
30:33So the Jets missing at least a couple of players in that big matchup on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
30:40Then you've got a couple of injuries with the Baltimore Ravens.
30:43Zay Flowers with that hamstring injury. Day-to-day, good sign.
30:46Pulled them at the right point, so he didn't aggravate it and make it any worse.
30:52That's week one. Let's take our time here. That's what the Ravens approach and not push it if we don't have to,
30:59especially because they were up at the time and performing so well.
31:03And then you've got Jacoby Lane as well with the Ravens.
31:07Underwent surgery on that broken wrist that we told you about a couple of days ago.
31:12That should help with the healing. So it doesn't sound like he's going to be out for too long, but he'll be out for an extended period here.
31:21And the hope is that he comes back and contributes, which he was expecting to contribute right away.
31:27So let's see how quickly he returning it back out there.
31:31And then there's Mansour Delane, who is expecting to play, which, I mean, the initial fear here when he first left the
31:38field was, did he re-injure the same injury that he had in the spring that had him out for a period of time?
31:46And then he felt better as the night went on, went through the testing.
31:50Everything looked good. Back out there on the practice field, ready to play Sunday night after recording that interception.
31:57Not bad right there. Let's see what he's going to do in extended timeout.
32:01And Mike, why does it always seem like the injury news gets worse for the 49ers?
32:07Their rookie wide receiver, Deshaun Stribbling, who was placed on injured reserve, he's going to miss about 10 weeks after undergoing surgery today on his ankle.
32:15Kyle Shanahan confirmed the 10-week prognosis today. That is a major loss for the 49ers offense.
32:21And it wasn't just Stribbling. Their tight end, Jake Tongass, he underwent surgery for a MCL injury.
32:26He's out for the season. You lose your tight end, you lose your wide receiver.
32:31That goes on top of already losing. Ricky Pearsall, they have the Dolphins at home on Sunday, but the 49ers already are
32:38reeling from all the injuries they're dealing with. Adjust your fantasy rosters accordingly.
32:43Still to come on this episode of the Insiders here on NFL Network.
32:47Baker Mayfield, three fumbles lost in the opening weekend loss to the Bengals.
32:51How does he regroup? Next. I'm Brett Coleman. And I'm Trevor Sikama.

36:25State at number 10 Alabama, 3.30 Eastern time. And how about this nightcap?
36:297.30 East, Lane Kiffin. And number seven LSU, heading to Oxford to take on number eight Ole Miss.
36:35The headlines write themselves in that one, and you don't want to miss it.
36:40Can't wait for week three of college football. All right, Jackson Dart and Cam Scadaboo traveling west as the Giants face off
36:47against Matthew Stafford and the Rams at SoFi Stadium.
36:50Don't miss Monday Night Football, Monday, 8 p.m. Eastern on ABC, ESPN, ESPN to Portes and the ESPN app.
36:57Of course, don't miss Peyton and Eli, also with you there on ESPN2.
37:01Mahomes able to break one tackle. He's in. Same old Patrick.
37:05Watching him move, there's no indication that it's affecting him whatsoever.
37:08On third down over the Middle East pitch. This offense, this has not been good at all.
37:14In fact, it's been pretty ugly. Still good. Touchdown, Kansas City.
37:17Here's a toss to Walker. He's got another. A resounding win tonight for KC.
37:22Indeed, it was. In a resounding recovery for Patrick Mahomes from the knee injury suffered late last season.
37:28Like, it was a little rusty to start with the first four drives going 2-12, but rebounded in a big way, 13-17
37:35the rest of the game, including two passing touchdowns.
37:38Mahomes now on how his knee is feeling. Yeah, I feel normal.
37:42Actually, I mean, it's like a blessing. You get sore everywhere else, you know, because you haven't played football in so long.
37:50And so the leg is like the least of my worries right now.
37:54So it's, I'm just excited to be out there and playing.
37:58You know, at the end of the day, like you don't know until you get out there and play.
38:04And I was able to go out there and play.
38:07And I feel good today. So now it's about getting in the ice bath or whatever it takes to be ready for this Sunday night game.
38:16Okay, Mike Garofalo back here with us as the Chiefs get ready to take on the Colts.
38:22Colts team who gave up over 500 yards of total offense to the Ravens.
38:26How's that playing, Andy? Yeah, this is Lou Anarumo's defense that has talent on it.
38:31So we expect a good defensive performance when you see these guys out there.
38:36Didn't get that on Sunday. Now, they've got a lot of young guys and they've got some guys that haven't played.
38:43Ward hasn't played in a year. So a lot of new guys here in this defense that have to get the communication going.
38:50And it sounds like pre-snap communication is an emphasis.
38:53The pre-snap communication wasn't good and needs to be better.
38:57Now, no one has given Patrick Mahomes fits throughout his career like Lou Anarumo from a defensive coordinator standpoint, at least consistently.
39:04So I guarantee you he's not happy seeing Anarumo come in here, even if this defense didn't perform so well in week one.
39:12I would expect an improvement from Indianapolis' defense this upcoming week.
39:15Yeah, getting to a game in which both teams now, Mike, are a little bit unhappy following week one.
39:22Deshaun Watson and the Browns looking to avoid back-to-back seasons with 0-2 starts as they face off against Baker Mayfield and the Bucs.
39:29Watson addressing the week one criticism and expectations now heading into Sunday.
39:33I think personally, I think all that is for the media.
39:37I mean, I think the media has this expectation that I'm supposed to throw 400 yards and five touchdowns every week.
39:44So until that happens, I guess it's going to be the same situation.
39:48So again, my job is to make sure I'm operating well so we can try to get a win and keep moving forward from there.
39:56Baker Mayfield certainly looking in the mirror after the season opening loss to the Bengals in which he lost three fumbles as
40:04the Bengals were able to come away with the victory and now facing off against the Browns for the first time since 2022.
40:11And there's another loss that Mayfield is also still trying to recover from.
40:16That hurts. That hurts real bad. It's been a rough couple days.
40:20Can you explain that before? Oklahoma versus Michigan. Yeah, Todd's son was on the winning side of it.
40:26Sooners were not. And so, therefore, I squeezed into this little tank top.
40:30Do you buy that for you? No. He's probably got something worse.
40:34Baker, you said you had this one circle when the schedule came out.
40:38What are your emotions going into it? Obviously, I know the win is the thing that's the most on your mind.
40:45But when you see those orange helmets and you were such a big part of that franchise being drafted there, what goes through your mind?
40:53Yeah, I think any time, as I mentioned to you guys, there's history between a franchise, a coaching staff, anybody.
41:00There's always, you want to come out on the winning side of that no matter what.
41:05Obviously, it's very different there, staff-wise and everybody. But, yeah, it's spent four years there.
41:10I'm going into year four here. So, it's started my career there.
41:14A lot of ups and downs. But, yeah, for me, this week is doing the little things right, continuing to try and
41:22displace the ball where it needs to go, and then obviously, you know, making the things and corrections I need to in ball security.
41:30Well, since the two sides parted ways, they've also gone in different directions.
41:34Baker Mayfield surging in this next phase of his career, 105 passing touchdowns since leading the Browns, fifth most in the NFL
41:41behind some pretty good names right there. Sarah Walsh with the Bucs here for us.
41:46And, Sarah, so going back to battle the Browns, coming off a game in which he gave up three fumbles, how are
41:54we judging Baker Mayfield's ability to keep the emotions in check ahead of this week to matchup?
41:59Well, considering the game that you just mentioned, the first time he had multiple fumbles while he was here in Tampa, and
42:06considering he had to go to the podium in that Michigan jersey, Baker was really upbeat today.
42:12And he was asked why he's so upbeat. And he said because he believes all the problems that you saw on Sunday are fixable.
42:20Obviously, that's the fumbles. He said if it wasn't fixable, he would be in a different spot.
42:26Personally, he believes that's on him, and he can get that taken care of.
42:30He also believes there were a lot of positives last week.
42:34He said there were manageable third downs. They were able to move the ball early on.
42:39I asked him what the biggest lesson he learned from his experience playing in Cleveland.
42:44He said that the biggest takeaway was learning to be the same person consistently to the guys in the locker room each and every day.
42:53And you're seeing that carryover this week. Speaking of the guys he works with, I spoke with Chris Godwin.
42:59I said to Chris, look, we know who Baker is.
43:02If he had to tonight go play against a JV football team here in Tampa, he would find a way to fire himself up for the game.
43:11I said, Chris, if you consider the game that you're coming off of and you consider that it's Cleveland, what kind of
43:18level is he going to be at on Sunday?
43:21And Chris likened it to Michael Jordan, he said, in the last dance.
43:26He said he will find anything personally to get mad about and fired up about.
43:31So he said, given his feelings, when you combine that game and you combine his feelings about Cleveland, Godwin told me, Rhett,
43:38this is the perfect storm for Baker to go out and have a hell of a game.
43:44Well, that sounds like a must-see TV as we get into the early window on Sunday.
43:49We'll have live updates for you here on NFL Network with Game Day Live.
43:54All right, Sarah, thanks very much. Still to come on the Insiders, Jaguars handed the Browns season opening loss.
44:00What do they have for an encore as they get set to travel to Denver?
44:05What's next? Hey, we're going to the Super Bowl.
44:08And you can, too. Enter for a chance to win four tickets to Super Bowl 61 and a three-night vacation to Disneyland
44:15Resort to watch the Super Bowl champion cavalcade. Scan the QR code on your screen right now or visit www.espn.com slash S-B-L-X-I to learn more.
44:23Well, safe to say, the new Declan Doyle-led Baltimore Ravens offense passed with flying colors in week one.
44:29First or second in so many major categories, a hat trick for Derrick Henry on the ground.
44:35Zay Flowers, 150 yards receiving in the first half before leaving with a hamstring injury, making Lamar Jackson pretty excited about the
44:42different ways they can attack a defense. They don't really know how to pinpoint a guy on our offense.
44:49You know, this guy might be the strongest who, I believe, on this play.
44:53And it don't be that. You know, it's any given guy.
44:57And that's what I feel like our offense gives them that disadvantage on.
45:01So keep it going there. All right, the Jaguars had a big win at the end of last season, taking down the
45:09Denver Broncos 34-20 in Denver in what was a banner year for Liam Cohen in his first season as the head coach.
45:16They're now getting ready to deal with Denver once again.
45:19And I think it helps our players know the atmosphere, know what they're going into.
45:24The schemes are probably going to be very similar for us as well.
45:29You know, like our schemes and what we do, I'm sure they're looking at that game just as much as we are.
45:36For me, it's more of like, okay, we have the experience of going there and going through that trip and knowing what
45:43that's like and the altitude and the atmosphere and then having to go and play a quality opponent.
45:49Mike Garoppolo back with us. Mike, Trevor Lawrence, the only quarterback in the NFL to throw for four touchdowns in week one,
45:56continuing his ascension under the direction of Liam Cohen.
45:59How are the Jags feeling about the way they opened up this season?
46:04This game's a rematch of that. Remember the smaller market comment that Sean Payton made that the Jaguars took and internalized and turned it into motivation last year?
46:13This is a rematch of that game there. Yeah, Trevor Lawrence continues to grow.
46:18And, you know, maybe this is the year. Maybe this is the year where we start talking about him and the upper
46:25echelon of quarterbacks because he has grown. He and Liam Cohen, the relationship has continued to flourish.
46:31It seems like they're trusting and understanding each other.
46:34They're even more this year and continuing to grow here.
46:37So this has got the makings of a potentially explosive offense.
46:41They've got that ground game, really a three-headed ground game.
46:44We came in talking about Bejal Tootin and Chris Rodriguez.
46:47How about Amir Abdullah? Got eight yards of carry on Sunday.
46:51Four carries plus contributing in the return game as well.
46:54So maybe there's even more firepower to this Jaguars offense than we thought about.
46:59Parker Washington still without a contract and only building his case even further.
47:03Excited to see what this Jaguars team on offense can do against this Broncos defense that's looking to play a little better than they did against the Chiefs.
47:12Yeah, no question. The Jaguars had it all going against the Browns in week one.
47:17All right. Raiders getting set for a matchup against the L.A.
47:21Chargers coming off that week one win. And they had to do it without Brock Bowers.
47:26Had that meniscus trim before week one. Did not practice today as he continues the recovery on that front.
47:33We'll keep an eye on it as we go forward in the week.
47:37Lad McConkie for the Chargers. Had a rib issue on that hit from Mack Wilson in the Chargers season opening loss to the Cardinals at SoFi Stadium.
47:46McConkie did not practice today. All right. Still to come, it's game day, folks.
47:51We are getting ready to kick off week two tomorrow from the new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, where the
47:58Bills will welcome the Lions on Thursday night football.
48:01How Josh Allen is readying for that moment in front of Bills Moskies when we come back.
48:06Buffalo's building something bigger than a stadium. NFL Network's new docuseries, Building Buffalo, going inside the construction of the Bills' new Highmark Stadium.
48:14Labor, legacy, and a city that's waited decades for this moment.
48:18Watch part one of two of Building Buffalo Thursday, 7 p.m.
48:21Eastern. On NFL Network, and now also streaming on the ESPN app.
48:25As you get ready for kickoff on Thursday night, and the new Highmark is prime for primetime.
48:31A lot of good memories in the stadium, but looking forward to making new ones as well.
48:37This is going to secure this franchise here for decades.
48:40Lions and Bills both with fantastic offensive outputs in week one, both scoring 30-plus points.
48:45Bills actually lead the NFL with 22 such games since 2024.
48:49Four Lions right behind him with 19. So we are in for some fireworks here as we get to look at the injury reports here.
48:57On the defensive side, TJ Sanders, Colt Bishop, questionable for the Buffalo Bills on that side of the ball, while Ty Johnson,
49:04part of the running back depth there, also questionable.
49:07For the Lions, that's a tough one. Two starting offensive linemen already ruled out.
49:12Blake Miller, the rookie, and Christian Mahogany, one of their starting guards.
49:16Cam Wolf, Mike Garofalo back here with us. Cam, look, this is an offensive line for the Lions that was already ahead
49:23of this regular season, dealing with some moving pieces along the offensive line.
49:27How are they going to handle these two departures here in week two?
49:32Right. They say Apple a day keeps the doctor away.
49:35Somebody needs to sit in a barrel to Detroit because the injuries just keep piling up.
49:40Man, this is a big deal. Essentially, three starting offensive linemen, if you conclude their starting center out already for at least
49:48a month in this group, it's a big deal facing this Bills defensive line that played really well in week one.
49:55And talking to Jameer Gibbs, they say it starts with Ed Oliver.
49:59So they've got to figure out how to run those zone-blocking schemes to the outside behind Penesol.
50:04And the vibe I got spending two days in Detroit was they are not whining about these injuries.
50:10Penesol said, we are not making excuses. We are going to be the physical team and try to pound the rock like we did.
50:18And I expect this to be a Jameer Gibbs game.
50:21He's coming off of 34 touches, a career high for him.
50:25His coach told him, drink some more Gatorade. Get ready for more.
50:29They're going to find ways to get him on the outside and try to get him in space.
50:35They know they need a lot of points to keep up with Josh Allen and this Bills offense.
50:41But they are not just tucking their heads. They think they have some special elements on defense to try to trick Josh Allen.
50:49But ultimately, they're going to have to have Gibbs and Jared Goff score a lot of points to keep up with this Bills team.
50:57I think Jameer Gibbs needs to hold out, Rhett.
51:00You know, he just did that deal. He only played one game.
51:04He is the entire backfield and like 80% of the offense.
51:07Sione Vocki, the running back, had two attempts with Isaiah Bacheco down.
51:11So anyway, on the other side of the ball for the Bills, I was there in training camp and they were talking
