0:00Ashton Genty goes down with an injury today in practice. We're going to tell you all you need to know and prepare you
0:05for what to do in case we're without him. And we're going to give you the top 10 fantasy takeaways from preseason week
0:102. This is Fantasy Football Daily.
0:21>> All right. Today Scott Barrett's out of town. He is on vacation again. Again.
0:29This guy's always he's a jet setter. And so I took the opportunity to actually do the show tonight with somebody that I
0:36actually enjoy doing shows with and that would be Derek Brown. Mr. Derek Brown, how are you today, sir?
0:42>> I'm doing good, man. Yeah, Scott texted me earlier this afternoon. I'm like, dude, where this is like, where in the
0:46world is Kerman San Diego? I know for the wayback machine like all the all the young kids out there, they're not going
0:50to even know what I'm talking about, but go Google that. It's worth it. And Scott is >> gonna be texting us pictures for some
0:57tropical location. bread. I don't know.
0:59>> No, he's uh he's back on the East Coast visiting family and whatnot, but you know, whatever. See, >> you could have made up something. You
1:05could have said he's in Aruba. Like, >> it [laughter] >> everybody would have known it was me. It was totally made up though because they
1:12take one look at Scott, they know that like he's not going to tropical destinations without SPF 200. [laughter] >> Yeah, true. Although, he lives in Austin
1:20and Austin is pretty hot this time of year. Scott sent me >> the temperature reading from his phone yesterday. It was 108 degrees in Austin.
1:27It was 108 today in Dallas Fort Worth.
1:29Man, it's supposed to be no lower than 107 over the next three days, but you know, we could get into a long weather
1:34conversation. I could derail us here.
1:36>> Do you know what else is hot though?
1:39>> Football preseason week two takeaways.
1:42Those are >> a professional segue, man.
1:44>> That is a professional segue.
1:45>> So, let's let's start with the Genty news. So, he goes down and practice today. Apparently, it was an awkward landing after a catch.
1:52>> Um, you know, we've got various reports from certain medical guys. is I know Jeff Mueller uh fantasy points injury doctor
2:01>> doesn't have a lot of information but they're trying to extrapulate. We have sources at the rate I don't want to tip
2:06our hand completely.
2:07>> Scott's telling me not to be super worried about this but an injury is still an injury and it's worth talking
2:13about and we also have seen the backup rookie Mike Washington Jr. and by the way I have to say I have to toot our own
2:20horn Derek. I don't think there were two guys higher on Mike Washington Jr. than you and I.
2:24>> There wasn't >> at pre-draft. So, like he's looked sharp in the preseason. What have you seen from him?
2:29>> Dude, he's looked fantastic this I mean this preseason. I mean like watching both the games really it's been an extrapolation of what we saw from him as
2:37a skill set uh as a player really in college. The big play ability, the the blinding speed. We all know that he
2:44tested like an alien. By the way, Scott Barrett, I saw I saw you, man. I see.
2:48And if your ears are burning, I see your Mike Washington Jr. hate tweet. I saw that out there in the ether. But to
2:54counter Scott's hate tweet, I I would like to also tell the masses that in his final season in college, Michael Washington Jr. was 33rd in yards at the
3:03contact per attempt, 17th in breakaway percentage. This preeason, dude, and I know it's only a 15 carry sample. Brett, 7.07 yards of contact per attempt. Not
3:15too bad, my friend. Not too bad.
3:17>> The thing with Mike Washington Jr., And like I don't want to get too deep into the weeds on the pre-draft profile,
3:23>> but like there were definitely holes in the profile. That's why he went day three.
3:26>> Yep.
3:27>> And so like I I never I never looked at the analytical profile Scott presented and said, "Yeah, you're for sure wrong
3:33about him." But it was a weaker running back class. And in a weaker running back class, I'm going to be inclined to just
3:37bet on the traits, right? And you see the size. I've been calling him discount Omar and Hampton >> because like the size speed. Actually,
3:45that's even disrespectful to him because he's way looser of an athlete than Hampton is. Hampton's stiff as a board, right? And like,
3:51>> yeah, >> Washington can can move. Yeah, you're seeing some of the highlights on the screen. Like, the dude has some legit
3:56lateral quickness >> that I don't think Hampton has. But yeah, I mean, I think he's even looked a little bit more polished already.
4:03>> Same the pass, the catching technique.
4:06Yeah. The the vision, the patience, like because that was my biggest critique of him coming out. It's like patience and vision was kind of meh. He, you know,
4:13just relied on the size athleticism combo, but he actually looks like a running back now.
4:17>> No, I I like the prospect profile coming out. Like I know we can kind of talk about like the the basically his entire
4:24resume as a college player, but the final season is all I really care about because that's the guy who you are
4:30currently. That's who you are entering the NFL. And the size speed profile is there. We already saw him hit like what
4:36was it a 50 plus yard run. Yeah.
4:38>> In preeason. I think he has underrated like three down ability because the pass catching is good. Like you can go on X
4:45right now and just go search his name.
4:47You're going to find a like a laundry list of routes in 101's in Mobile where he was winning in the receiving drills
4:54too, Brett.
4:55>> Yeah, I told the story the anecdote I had for Mobile is like every year if there's a guy who really stands out in
5:02the in those drills, they they try to do something to throw him off, right? So >> Washington was crushing all the
5:07linebackers in the pass catching drill.
5:09So they brought they were bringing safeties over. That was my anecdote from this year. It's like they literally were grabbing a safety from the other drills,
5:16bringing him over to try to cover um try to cover Washington and then he still beat a guy beat a safety on a wheel
5:23route like 50 yards downfield in the final one-on-one of day two. So yeah, the pass catching upside is there. He's just a great athlete, too. And like it
5:31tight end and running back athleticism matters just so much. You know, all the top tier players are are elite athletes.
5:36So, >> well, and and the thing I want to highlight about him, so like we're again, as of recording this, we don't
5:42know what the ultimate news, so as you're watching this, listening to this, you might already have that news in hand as you're listening to this. But if
5:49Genty is truly out for the season, I think Mike Washington Jr. becomes a top 20 running back. And people like I put
5:56this take out on social media earlier and like after the news came out about Genty and I'm like and people are like,
6:01"Really? Are you serious? Like come on, man." And I'm like, "Really?" Like how why is that crazy? Everybody's filing Ashton Genty as an RB1 in fantasy
6:09without even thinking like twice about it, but his backup who is a size specimen who has a three down skill set.
6:17He's underrated in the passing game.
6:19Like I'm not telling you that he's going to get out there running angle routes and and play out of the slot like Ginty
6:24can. Genti's a way better receiver, but can he be competent in the passing game?
6:29Can you get him in advantageous spots where he's a checkown option or like on wheel routes? He has the the speed to if
6:36you ask him to go run up the freaking sideline and beat a linebacker, he can freaking do that. So yeah, if Genty does
6:42miss the whole year, miss time and stuff like that. Washington is an automatic top 20 running back for me.
6:48>> Yeah, that's that's a that's a definitely a call. I don't think that's too crazy though, Derek. I think >> I don't either,
6:54>> especially when you look at their current depth chart. They have nobody behind. They have Dylan Lowi as like a pass catching guy, but like he's not
7:00seeing the field. I think the the worry would become and I know Scott Barrett's already kind of beating this drum is
7:06like they they're the first call for James Connor. I think it's pretty seems like everyone's assuming Conor Connor's playing for a different team come week
7:13one. So >> the stuff about James Connor we still haven't seen him practice. Does nobody like I was thinking James Conor was
7:20going to get traded to a lot of different teams.
7:22>> He is still yet to practice for the Cardinals throughout all of training camp. We don't even know if we're going
7:26to see him this year. Brett >> and you have to pass a physical to be able to get traded. So that's a good
7:30point. Yeah. All right, let's move on.
7:32Let's hit uh let's hit the Brown situation. We have >> Well, the of We're going to talk quarterbacks. Shor versus Deshawn. But
7:41also, just I want a quick note on this.
7:43KCC is getting superstar treatment already. Like, >> yes, he is, baby. You love >> he played a lot game one and game two.
7:49They were like, nah, we're we're not risking that, you know. So, uh which is great to see. But anyways, it seems like
7:56Shadur has beat Deshawn Watson. I know they're going to make an announcement this week, but it seems like Shadur has beat out Deshun Watson for the job,
8:02which is interesting because I thought in preseason week one, Deshun Watson was far superior quarterback just in that one game.
8:10>> Mhm.
8:10>> Week two though, >> oh baby, >> the tides turned. And you can make the argument who who got like in both games,
8:17the player who played with the better supporting cast ended up looking better, but I think week two Shadur was far better than week one Deshaawn. So, and
8:26I'm not there every day in camp. I don't see what's happening, but it seems like making the bet on the younger talent um
8:32that seems to have a good rapport with with your young pass catchers is probably the smart smart bet for Todd Monkin.
8:39>> Oh, I absolutely agree. Like I I I always kind of put this as like I thought Shadur was going to win this
8:43competition because I just think Watson is cooked at this point, man. Week one, week two of preseason, he looks stiff in
8:49the pocket. Everybody's like, "Oh, he's more athletic than Shadur Sanders." I'm like, based off of what? What are you seeing that like Deshun Watson actually
8:56looks more athletic than Shadur Sanders?
8:59Maybe like entering the NFL and pre-injjuries Deshun Watson, not this version, dude. Like I thought he played terribly. Deshun Watson that is in week
9:08two, dude. Like he was staring down first reads, wouldn't come off of stuff.
9:12He was he dude he had a horrible throw on a choice route to uh Gage Lardine.
9:18>> I So just getting into the weeds real fast with that. He just looks riskaverse. Like it's all first read stuff. You saw like after that horrible
9:28throw in week two.
9:30>> Monkin was like, "Okay, let's get you like comfortable again. Three-step and rip. Three-step and [clears throat] rip for first reads because you look like
9:37you're you're playing skiddish." But I mean, did you see anything different out of week two, Brad?
9:41>> No, that was it was a polar opposite um experience from week one. Week one, it was like he was just running the
9:47offense. I noted on this show actually.
9:49is like, "Yeah, it looks like that's for what it's worth, like Chador wasn't doing that last year. He wasn't he wouldn't just run the offense. He kind
9:56of refused to. He was, you know, this all this creative playmaker stuff, holding the ball for 18 minutes every snap."
10:03>> And then Deshawn last week just came out and was like, "Ball out, ball out." And it was like, yeah, no, didn't get any
10:07explosives off of it, but it's like at least the ball's going out. It's getting distributed, not taking negative plays.
10:12But then today or this weekend, it was rough.
10:16>> Really rough. Uh the interception he threw was was god awful.
10:20>> Uh >> dude, he just the whole freaking time.
10:24Like they had a safety right there in coverage and a linebacker right next to him. And it's like what are you looking
10:29at? Yeah. Like what what legit what are you looking at? And like I know we're going to transition and kind of talk
10:34about your real quick, but like I just I don't see the decision making for Deshawn to consistently run this offense and the ball placement's not there. He
10:43looks like he's look he just moves like a damn robot. these days, Brett. And >> yeah, >> I'm I'm not saying Shadur is perfect now
10:51in both he looked way better in week two. I think there's a reason for that, too, and we'll kind of get into it here,
10:56but like week one, Shadur just always kind of looks like he's what he is forced to process things quickly and get
11:03the ball out. He looks like he's a tick behind the play design. Now, this kind of leads me into week two and like he
11:10looked really good. I'm not going to take anything away from Shadore, but also he had clean pockets that he was working from. He was allowed to sit
11:17there and just kind of wait. Like one of them, one of the the plays that looked the best for for him was I think it was
11:23like a deep crosser. He was waiting for the player to clear the uh the linebacker, the safety that was in coverage and he hit him on like right
11:30next to the uh to the sideline. And Shadur looks really good like ball placement, the arm talent looks really good on those throws.
11:38>> Well, that's never been a question for him. No, exactly. It's when things are hurried up or he has to play in chaos,
11:44>> then things can kind of go ary. But still, even Shadur like what we're seeing out of him >> still looks better in Deshun Watson,
11:52dude.
11:52>> Yeah. And Shadur, I thought he, you know, Monan did a really good job of giving him a steady diet of like, okay,
11:58we'll have like a quick game or screen throw to get that, you know, the ball out quickly, get that processing going.
12:04>> Then they paired it a lot with a lot of, you know, play action boot type stuff.
12:09And then it's like once he built some trust, it's like, "Cool, now let's give him a sevenstep rep, see if he can, you
12:14know, read a coverage." The touchdown throw he had >> was off of a sevenstep concept in in the red zone. And
12:20>> he got the ball out on time. It's like I I feel like Monkin was giving him really good designs and kind of vanilla stuff
12:27to build the confidence and the trust and then like once he built that trust, he he kind of added in some of that
12:33sevenstep stuff. So, uh, I was encouraged. You know, it's one game.
12:36It's a preseason game that, you know, most people will tell you doesn't matter, but I think it matters to Todd Monkin and I think he's going to name
12:42his starting quarterback Shur Sanders based out of it. So, it matters to somebody.
12:45>> Agree. [laughter] >> Fully agree. I think Sugar is going to be named the starter.
12:49>> Yeah. All right, let's move on to um Deon Stribbling, San Francisco 49ers receiver. I spent Scott and I spent 15
12:57minutes talking about him uh on the preseason week one recap.
13:01>> So, but he built on it, Derek. he built on it. And I think, you know, I'll give you my small piece on it, then I want to
13:08hear your thoughts. It's just like you don't see a lot of rookie receivers get the the workload they're asking him to
13:14carry. Like a lot of times you get drafted, especially a day two or day three guy, and it's like, "All right,
13:19we're going to specialize you at one of the three positions. You're going to play X or Z or F, and then you're going
13:26to really work on these routes, and then that's it, and then we'll add to it, right?" No, with the stribbling they're
13:32like, "Yeah, you're playing X, you're playing Z, you're playing F, and then you're going to run the full route tree.
13:37You're going to be involved in the design game." Oh, and by the way, you're also our best run blocking wide receiver, so go do that, too. And he's
13:44just been awesome at all of it. So, like I I'm legit wondering like if Mike Evans injury if if he keeps tweaking this
13:51hamstring, Derek, is shribbling actually like in contention to be their wide receiver one this year?
13:57I'm not going to dismiss it because I think if you look at the rest of the skill sets on that roster, Christian
14:02Kirk can't stay healthy. Um, Debo Samuel is just an underneath manufactured touch guy and he's still very good at well he's skinnier. He looks skinnier in the
14:12camp right now. Okay, right now if he gets hurt, we know that, you know, things can kind of pile up for for Debo
14:18very very quickly as far as the poundage, but right now he's healthy. He looks felt. But I'm with you, man. like
14:24Stribbling was not a guy as a prospect I was super high on. I looked at him as like a linear player and and that's one
14:31of the things that I think is so interesting about what we've seen in preeason and honestly you could take this like a
14:38as a whole or even week by week. I mean you and I were texting after week one and I was like this looks like the Ricky
14:45Pierall kind of diet of route tree in that it's a lot of short area stuff.
14:50They had him run a return route in freaking week one and I'm like >> a couple of them. Yeah. And I'm like,
14:54dude, I'm like, this is not where his like his best like his skills are best deployed either. I think it was them
15:01saying, can you do this? And testing the kid to see if he can win that way.
15:06Because that was one of the things going back to the prospect stuff for scribbling where I was like, he's a linear player. He has explosiveness, but
15:13he's so much better if you get him moving like on crossers. Get him just built up speed. And that's where you can
15:19see some of the yak. But that to your point, they've run him in all different wide receiver positions. They've given him a diet of like the full route tree.
15:28Even in week two, some of the best reps as he's had, and I know we we share this as far as our affinity of what we like
15:35in prospects, >> his body control and ability to go up and and snag balls outside of his frame.
15:41We've seen that in both games, Brett, and it's been on go routes. The the one thing that I thought was really good uh
15:48to see in week two is they they ran him on a double move. Now, was the acceleration amazing like on the double
15:55move? Did he get a little bit tick tock?
15:56Could have been more efficient. Sure.
15:58But did he was he able to also like he dropped the freaking uh touchdown that he would have had on the double move,
16:05but it still goes to to the point of he got Tony Jefferson to bite on the double move and he's looked good with all the
16:13different spots. Now the Kyle Shanahan yak uh diet has not been there like so far, but again I think that's more of
16:23usage and what they've asked out of him to this point. I'm not going to say like he's going to be an elite Yak player.
16:28>> Well, they they gave him a Jet in week one. They gave him a Jet in week one.
16:32Yeah. And a couple shallows as well. So, >> yeah. I mean, my thing is like I I'm expecting like once we get into the NFL
16:39season, too, is I'm expecting like not a heavy diet, but some a few more screens and some drag routes. Like, get him
16:48moving, dude.
16:49>> Well, what's crazy, dude, is like, and you're seeing the JJ Zachary tweet on the screen right now. They came out and
16:55they were like, >> "All right, let's see what you can do and get you out of the game." Like, he got targeted on four of the first five
17:01pass plays of the game. That's that's insane. And then like six of the first eight like ridiculous ridiculous um just like, "Hey, we're
17:11going to get you the ball. See what you can do." It was basically I know you said it was like kind of the Ricky
17:15Pierce all. I think it was the full Brandon Iuk diet when I had his peak.
17:20And then on top of that, they're like, "Oh, but also you got to go do Jawan Jennings stuff, too." So, it's like,
17:25he's doing both. It's it's it's pretty impressive. But, um, I I just look at this this depth chart. I'm like, Mike
17:30Evans is already banged up. Ricky Pi's out for the year. Christian Kirk is, >> you know, still hurt. Debo Samuels, Debo
17:37Sam, like I legit think >> he's in contention. And you're you're drafting him as wide receiver or as a wide receiver for right now in fantasy.
17:45So, >> um, I think he's a great great buy. So, >> yeah. contingent upside for days, Brett.
17:52Fully agree. Everybody needs to be drafting this dude right now.
17:55>> Yes. Um let's go let's pivot to the the Keller on the Panthers dudes. We got two we want to talk about.
18:01>> Um T McMillan and Jonathan Brooks. My only note on Tech McMill T McMillan. He didn't play a lot. He hasn't played a
18:09lot through two games, but he's played some. The biggest note for me is the slot use.
18:14>> Yes. See, we didn't compare notes.
18:15That's exactly where I'm going. Go ahead. Go ahead. Cook, baby.
18:18Cook. Well, just like, you know, it's a cheat code to put to put your your number one receiver in the slot.
18:25>> And what you see when you look at the most productive fantasy players in the league, >> almost all of them spend 30 to 35% or
18:33more of their time in the slot. Tech Mc T McMillan last year was in rare company with guys like George Pickkins and Nico
18:40Collins who literally don't play in the slot. I think he was like 88% of his routes run came from out wide, which is
18:46insane. Pickings and Nico are both in the 90s, but I digress. And then in the preseason so far, he's up at like 40 to
18:5345% slot rate. Uh it's like again, it's small sample. It's like 23 routes or something. It's still notable, though.
19:01>> Telling, dude.
19:02>> Yeah, he's already run more slot routes through two preseason games than he did in any two games combined last season.
19:08Tell I I thought I I think we're going to be handholding here and I was I was wondering if you were going to say it
19:15before I said it. Does this not feel like Dave Canelis just went and watched all of the Drake London diet and this is
19:23what we're getting? This really does feel like that though. This feels like that Dave Canelis went to the back to the drawing board and he said, "Oh man,
19:31they're doing some really smart stuff with Drake London. Yeah, we got a guy like that. Let's do some really smart stuff with T McMillan and put him on the
19:38Drake London diet, dude. And if that's the case, we're going to get some design looks. They're just going to be like,
19:44"Okay, let's get you in the slot on a small nickel or a linebacker and you just go win, dude."
19:50>> Yeah, just the the free release into the secondary is just nice, too. Like, >> Ted's so good at breaking down zone as
19:57well. So, it's like >> very good.
19:58>> Yeah, I agree. The Drake London diet would be would be freaking awesome for him. So, Yep.
20:02>> Um All right. Well, so we're we're aligned on T. What does what does this do for his like ADP fantasy-wise? I
20:09don't know. But I think I've been a little skittish on T because of Bryce Young.
20:14>> So, yes, guy had three 200 yard passing games last year. But if he's if Ted's going to get more easy button throws,
20:22>> maybe the market share like Bryce Young's market share doesn't have to go up that much or I'm sorry, his passing
20:26yards don't have to go up that much as long as T McMillan's market share kind of goes up or stays relatively the same.
20:32So, I'm I'm pretty I'm a little bit more comfortable with Ted at his ADP now. Um, >> yeah, I I just worried about the passing
20:39rate. That's the only been my my worries about Ted have not been T centric. It's straight up been Bryce Young and passing
20:45volume. That's my only worries about Ted.
20:47>> Well, speaking of passing volume, what about Jonathan Brooks?
20:50>> I mean, >> dude, I'm encouraged. I'm encouraged, Brett. I and we didn't see a lot of him, but when you're telling me in week two
20:58he played 12 or 13 snaps of Bryce Young.
21:01Um he was the bellcow there and I know everything coming out of camp like has been they're going to treat him with kid
21:08gloves and stuff like that. Dude, he's 21 months when we get to week one. He is 21 months off the last ACL construction.
21:15He is fully freaking healthy and it is such a small diet. And and and you and I talk about this constantly, like running
21:23backs are so beholden also to what the offensive line is allowing for them to do. And especially I think that this is
21:29also true for a player like Jonathan Brooks. Like he's not twitched up. He's not a guy that's going to sit here and
21:34make something happen like juke three guys in the backfield. He's not Kenneth Walker. Jonathan Brooks is a glider.
21:40>> More like Elvin Kamar.
21:42>> Yes. He perfect. Um my conf for him coming out was Melvin Gordon and a guy that when you get him into the second
21:50level and we saw that on a few different plays. There was one stretch zone play that I remember where he got the buildup
21:55speed and you saw he looked exactly like Jonathan Brooks that I saw in college and I'm like okay I I I'm all in dude.
22:04I'm not worried about Chuba. I'm I'm I really in on Jonathan Brooks.
22:07>> Well Chuba's not very good at football for one. He's one of the least efficient backs you know and >> he hasn't put together back-to-back good
22:14seasons yet. Chuba, it's like he skips.
22:16>> But on top of that, Brooks is a three a legit three down back. I think he's his best traits are his pass down stuff.
22:23Like he's great in pro >> and the pass the hands the route running. He's great with the ball in his hands as a screen player.
22:30>> Um the vision's really really excellent.
22:32So I there's no reason for Chuba to be a thing for them if if you know Brooks is completely healthy. So
22:40>> um I really like Brooks at ADP right now.
22:42>> Real fat. I I love Brooks at ADP. I I've wanted to be like so I've been above consensus, dude. I've had him at like
22:47RB29 since January and um I I just remain as consensus comes up, Rhett, I just keep him a little bit above
22:56consensus. I'm like, "All right, y'all like RB 29? I'm at RB 26, RB27. I'm just going to keep above."
23:03>> But to zoom out a 100 foot 100 foot view here.
23:08Tell me what do you think about I if if Carolina is using Tedro McMillan in the Drake London diet and and designing up
23:16easier targets for Bryce Young. We get Jonathan Brooks as a legit part of this passing game.
23:22>> Do we see a better season with more easy button throws and stuff like that for Bryce Young? And I and I don't want to
23:27derail us, but like we've kind of meshed both these things together. Shouldn't that help Bryce Young?
23:32>> Yeah, it should. It should. Yeah, I think you know you think about it too like think about what they've tried to do.
23:39They they tried to draft an Xavier Legette who's supposed to be super dynamic with the ball in his hands.
23:44>> Mhm.
23:45>> And he hasn't earned enough trust to get those targets.
23:48>> It's like so I think they've wanted that role on the offense and I do think with Ted now playing more in the slot. Um,
23:56yeah. I And Brooks being a legit pass down back. I absolutely it should give Bryce a lot more easy button throws, but
24:03also they're not going to like the season they had last year is a little fluky.
24:07>> Mhm.
24:08>> And they're going to have to I think scratch and claw a little bit more to have a shot to win that division. And
24:15that p the pass rate has to come up probably. So >> yeah, I agree. They can't just sit on leads and and lean on a on an easier
24:22schedule.
24:23>> Exactly. All right, let's pivot. Your guy, this is one of This is actually This is my guy, too. This This is my RB2
24:30in the 2024 draft. The Green Bay Packers, Marshon Lloyd. He has somehow stayed injuryfree long enough for us to have this conversation, which is a
24:39miracle in of itself.
24:41>> Um, but we loved Lloyd's prospects. He destroyed everyone at the at the Senior Bowl.
24:46>> Motion Man, our producer, was at the Senior Bowl that year, actually. Mhm.
24:49>> Um, but man, he he looks fantastic and I I don't know. I can't uh I can't put into words how excited I am to see him
24:58on the field finally. But I all I wrote down the only note I want to throw out and then I'll let you cook is juice.
25:04That's it. Juice.
25:05>> Yes, baby. He He looks Now, now I will I'm not going to derail us here, but I will say very quickly, whoever the heck
25:14is handling the hamstring issues for Christian Watson and Marshon Lloyd, can we just shove Jordan Tyson into a FedEx box and send him immediately to that
25:21doctor? Cuz he needs to go to it, man.
25:23>> Pretty sure they live in Germany.
25:25>> Well, I don't care. Buy him the ticket.
25:27Buy him the ticket and let him go right now. It's not like he's playing football or anything. But Marshon Lloyd, to your
25:33point, all of the stuff to get him right, he looks healthy. He looks f physically right out there on the field.
25:40And again, another guy you and I were talking about earlier this week was like the vision is he looks rusty to me. Now,
25:47some of the vision on his runs looks kind of wonky where he's missing cut back lanes. I think that can be Go
25:53ahead. Go ahead.
25:54>> Honestly, they gave him no underenter runs though, really. It was all shot.
25:58That's fair >> as we're about to see one from under center. But >> well, yeah, but to your point, I think
26:03that the other part about it, he looked extremely they had a huge stretch zone runs and he looked so much more
26:08comfortable as far as like press flow and using that explosiveness, Brett, that I'm like, do we see that integrated more? Especially like whether I mean
26:19Josh Jacobs is back in practice and stuff like that. But Lloyd, the other thing, dude, on that touchdown, that pretty little angle route that he ran
26:26for the touchdown. That's the other part. He's another pass game weapon to where he can get deployed and have a standalone role for the Packers offense
26:35and Jacobs can still be out there like he can be the lightning to Jacobs Thunder and Lloyd can have this like
26:43seven to nine touch type of role and then if Jacobs goes down like again he played nine of 14 snaps with Jordan Love
26:51in week two he would be their workhorse bellcow if anything happens to Jacob suspension or honestly Jacobs is I mean last year he looked like a shell of
27:02himself Brett I think the volume is starting to take a toll on his body.
27:06>> Yeah and maybe potentially legal troubles as well. You know >> fair that too. We I mean [clears throat] there's still a looming suspension and
27:12we know how old Roger does with those things. He takes out the darts. He grabs the dart board and he puts 578 32 up
27:18there and he says all right >> where what kind of suspension do you want now? And that's it. And that's where we get our, you know, whatever
27:26suspension Old Roger just deems worthy.
27:29>> Yeah.
27:31All right, let's uh So, we're both in on Lloyd. Um I think he's gonna have a role this year that's that's uh relevant for
27:37fantasy for sure. Um >> speaking of someone who is definitely more fantasy relevant than anyone thought when they drafted him, Malachi
27:44Fields in New York. Um Derek, my man got starter treatment.
27:49>> He did.
27:50>> He got starter treatment.
27:51>> He got bubble wrapped, Brett.
27:53>> He got bubble wrapped. And that speaks volumes. One, I mean, we know Neighbors is the is the one. There's no question
27:58about that. But he is coming back from a catastrophic injury. They're bubble wrapping him, too, obviously. But they like Fields enough to say, "Hey,
28:06Neighbors might be off to a slow start.
28:08We need you to be the guy." So, they bubble wrapped him. Darius Sllayton played the whole freaking game.
28:13>> Yep.
28:13>> Um who, you know, and that that seems like who Fields would have to beat out for playing time with the ones. Well,
28:18he's already passed him on the dev chart, it looks like. So, um, but Fields as a prospect to me is the perfect
28:24compliment to Malik Neighbors >> where Neighbors is your shifty Antonio Brown route him up type can also win at the catch point, right? But like
28:34eventually will be an elite route runner and separator. Malachi Fields is the like legit Alpha X, you know, block his little tail off in the run game, but
28:45also go up and make things easy on your quarterback. as you're seeing on the screen right now, the, you know, catches
28:50over the DBs. He had some of the freakiest catches you'll ever see at a Senior Bowl practice this year. Um, he
28:55had one where I think he chased the ball, it felt like 60 yards down the field and completely laid out for it,
29:01running full speed, easy catch. Um, he's he's he's a fun talent though, and I just love the size speed combo. He's a
29:08classic heightweight speed guy. Uh, but I it's cool to see him get bubble wrapped in in week two of the preseason
29:13here.
29:14>> Yeah. and and I have a lot of the same notes like he played X in the preseason.
29:18I think that's the role he's going to play in the regular season. I think they're going to probably and and correct me if I'm wrong in how I'm
29:24projecting this, Brett, but I think you're going to see Malachi play the X role. I think you're going to see neighbors kind of rotate between Z and
29:31slot, manufactured touches, like get basically get the ball in his freaking hands. And then whoever we get opposite those guys, like a two wide receiver
29:39sets, I think those are going to be your guys. And then we're probably going to see a smattering of like Darius
29:44Sllayton, Darnell Mooney, who missed this last week. He I think he was like the best man in his brother's wedding or
29:49something like that. That's why he didn't play in week two of the preseason. But yeah, >> with Fields, I I agree with everything
29:54he said. like the the one thing that I had questions about him as a prospect and the route tree that he was asked to
29:59in the role that he played in college was I was like man I just don't know if he's going to be well I I was like he he
30:06had this like vertical linear heavy type of route tree where they ask him to stretch the field and he wasn't he
30:13didn't run the full route tree in college so my thing was how much can he be a target earner in the NFL but I I
30:21know that you saw a lot unfortunately I wasn't able to thank you American Airlines. I wasn't able to make it to
30:26Mobile this year, but I know when you were in Mobile, we were texting back and forth and you were like, "Dude, Fields
30:31looks like a totally different beast down here because he's allowed and he's being asked to do more." I mean, like, can you elaborate on that a little bit?
30:38Like, as far as like, what did you see in Mobile that gave you more hope >> than [snorts] some of the collegiate
30:43tape? Because I I was a little bit lower on him based off of that tape.
30:47>> Yeah, just getting him a little bit more on the horizontal plane. So his entire route tree at Notre Dame was linear
30:54vertical.
30:55>> I mean like legit goes posts, back shoulders, corner, deep corners and like deep hitches. Really nothing in the you
31:05know inbreaking diet and like in Mobile they immediately start for one they started moving him around. They put him at Z. They put him as the big slot. And
31:14he was running digs and deep crossers and out routes and looked really comfortable doing it. I And so I underrated his ability to kind of sink
31:23those hips and explode into breaks.
31:25>> And so like is he going to be amazing at that stuff early on in his career?
31:28Probably not. But the fact that he can do it a little bit >> means he's not just like a sacrificial X
31:33like he especially with neighbors on the field. He'll never that Fields will never see a double team in his life with
31:38neighbors on the field.
31:40>> Agreed. So, it's like life is pretty easy for him and he should be able to capitalize. So, um I think this is super
31:45fantasy relevant especially in an offense where you know at least at fantasy points we love Jackson Dart. We think Jackson Dart's a you know great
31:53fantasy asset.
31:54>> Um we love Malik Neighbors. We love Cam Scataboo. Fields just helps all those guys and I think this offense is kind of
32:01taking shape. Um Isaiah likely some like him. I don't. Um, but you know, the offense is kind of taking shape and
32:07you're kind of seeing the potential if they don't get Matt naggied.
32:11>> Yeah, man.
32:12>> Different conversation for a different day.
32:13>> Yeah, I was to say we [laughter] could we could go on a whole different show about being Matt naggied, but you know,
32:18I digress. Conversation for another day.
32:21>> Uh, let's go back to the Raiders for a sec. I wanted to talk Fernando Mendoza.
32:24Um, I've shared my thoughts extensively on this show already. Why don't you tell us what you thought about Fernando?
32:32>> I thought he looked good. I definitely thought that he looked very much like a rookie. Like I think they need to start
32:37Kurt Cousins week one, man. And I know there's like two different camps about like especially because of practice reps and things like that and live game reps
32:45of like learning and stuff. Now, I will say the watching him behind a backup offensive line against the Houston Texans is not coloring, you know, too
32:55much of the picture for me because I'm very well aware of like the reasons of why that looked the way it did in week
33:01two. But I just the thing that that's holding me back a little bit about Fernando is I feel like he's still
33:09adjusting and and very much so. Again, I want to be very like diligent about how I'm laying this out. He's played two NFL
33:16preseason games, but I feel like the version of Fernando that we're seeing right now is somebody that's still working it out of what can I get away
33:25with? And I'm processing in real time the massive jump in spacing and speed of the NFL level because the thing about it
33:35like what I've seen through two weeks of preseason, Brett, and I'm curious like if this is your takeaway or where you
33:40sit on this was for a guy that I felt like as he moved through the the the collegiate season last year, we saw him
33:47be more out of structure playmaking, aggressive, like I felt like his trigger has been not a little bit slow, but he's
33:55been a little bit hesitate. at times where he'll see it and you're like, "Rip the ball. Rip it." [snorts] And he's
34:01like, "He'll pat it, he'll wait, he'll get dancy and and it's not consistent."
34:06Now, now to that point, I felt like he was better in week two and that goes away, but that is something that I'm
34:12seeing out of him where it's like I feel like he's like in real time adjusting to the speed of the NFL game and the
34:19spacing and tighter windows. But, I mean, what did you see out of him so far this preseason? Yeah, I I think it's
34:24it's a fair I mean I'm I've been high on both performances. I know the interception scared a lot of people that
34:30he had it was I'm not worried about that late over the middle to a checkdown, but ultimately like I think you're right
34:35there is a spacing difference in college. You have the wide hashes, right? And so their whole playbook at Indiana was basically designed to kind
34:42of exploit that. They were attacking outside of the wide uh of the far far side of the field where in the pro game
34:49everyone's faster and it's more condensed space. So, I do think you're seeing him there are certain pass concepts concepts where he is taking a
34:57extra beat to kind of feel things out.
35:00Um, but I do think like he still looks really good in rhythm.
35:05>> Um, when he's you can tell when he's feeling it, he looks confident. I think the ball looks awesome. Like the ball
35:10off his hand looks great.
35:12>> Not really worried about that. The pocket navigation looks relatively fine.
35:16>> Um, but I wanted to take this conversation kind of a different angle.
35:20Like what are the Raiders goals this year do you think? Like if you were running the Raiders, what like it's a
35:27new regime. It's year one of a new regime.
35:29>> They've had basically a draft and a half to kind of turn this thing around. Um a lot of influx on the roster like what is
35:39the realistic goal for the Raiders this year?
35:42>> You're in evaluation mode. Who on this roster can be short and long-term pieces for us? And and that's another reason
35:51why I don't I don't think you put Mendoza definitively out there in week one. They have to like for me if if
35:58again if you're asking me if I'm running the Raiders, what do I do? I start Kurt Cousins week one and I say is this a
36:04situation to where we can at least be functional based off of the run game, the offensive line, the receivers that we have and that we don't have. Can we
36:13be functional to the point where we can at least get a fair assessment about Mendoza? Or is this situation so broken
36:22this year despite everything we tried to do this off season? Is it still so broken that if we airdrop Fernando Mendoza into this situation, is it so
36:33bad this is going to hurt his learning curve instead of help it based off of learning on the job? But again, that's
36:40if I'm running the Raiders. Now, you tell me, >> did I do a bad job of running the Raiders?
36:45>> No, that's that's perfectly it's exactly what I wanted you to say because my big question is why are we putting Fernando
36:52on the field without Tyler Linderbomb, >> without Brock Bowers?
36:56>> Why do you put him out there Trey Tucker?
37:00>> Yes, thank you. Why? Why?
37:02>> I don't understand that. Yeah, >> I don't get that. You put your You know, your offensive line is crap. Okay, so we
37:09get a good assessment of Fernando. Let's put him up against the Texans backups with our garbage backup offensive line.
37:15This will work out well, Brett.
37:17>> Yeah, exactly. So, that's kind of where I'm at. I would protect the first overall pick a little bit better than
37:23they have. Um I thankfully it sounds like Kurt Cousins is fully intending on being the meat shield for him for several weeks, and that should be the
37:30case. But if you are going to put the man on the field, please God, put put the best players on the field with him.
37:35Um, and it sounds unfair because we expect rookie quarterbacks to step in and play with second and third stringers all the time. I don't care. They're not
37:42the first overall pick in the draft on a team that's rebuilding and planning for the future. All right, >> I fully agree.
37:47>> End rant.
37:49>> Uh, Antonio Williams, Washington Commanders wide receiver.
37:53Yeah, looked good against the Lions in limited play. Mhm. I >> But also the training camp videos I see of him constantly, he's just snapping
38:02dudes off route after route. You're the one who put him on the list though, so tell me what's up.
38:09>> So I was very cur I was very So okay, if you look at his preseason usage, he played 58.3% out wide, but then four of
38:17his six targets came from the slot. So, >> I think the preseason like first look of usage numbers and a lot of people could
38:26take away from this of, oh, Antonio Williams can be the outside wide receiver. I think that's false. I think if he gets on the field, he's going to
38:33be a 50/50 guy.
38:34>> Okay.
38:35>> Or he's going to get a lot of usage from the slot and some perimeter usage. Not to say that he can't win from the
38:40perimeter because I think he can do that.
38:42>> His best year of tape at Clemson was outside.
38:45>> Yeah. I I dude the the most impressive rep that I I was like I was sitting in my desk sitting on my desk earlier today
38:51and I was like oh he had a nice grab outside of his frame on like it was a deep out or a deep over. I'm forgetting
38:58right now from the slot and you saw again we go back to the body control baby it translates whenever you're able
39:05to do that and stuff. And the thing is, >> what are the commanders doing with their wide receiver usage is like like their
39:11coaching staff, Adam Peters, they draft all of these guys and then they're like, "Yeah, but we're not going to play any
39:19of them." Luke McCaffrey not going to play him. Jacobe Lane not going to play him. Ben Sennet not going to play him.
39:23Antonio Williams wasn't even getting reps with the ones until like a week ago. So like I also have to ask Brett,
39:30what the hell are we doing here?
39:33>> [laughter] >> Well, I seriously I haven't been a You listen to my show with Joe Marino first read. It's not like I've been a fan and
39:39endorse a lot of this roster.
39:42>> I don't understand what the hell they're doing, dude.
39:44>> There's a chance they just don't know either.
39:47>> It's not that they don't know how to evaluate talent. It's I don't know that they know how to develop talent because
39:52they've drafted a lot of guys I like. I liked Luke McAffrey. I liked Ben Sat. I like Antonio Williams. Um, there's
39:59redeeming qualities about Jakori Kroski Merritt as well, yet we can't seemingly develop these guys. I mean, it does seem like they're eventually giving into
40:08Antonio Williams now, but um, yeah, front office is a joke.
40:13>> I hope he's the starting slot receiver, like opposite Terry and Diggs and stuff like that. He has the talent. He can do
40:19that.
40:19>> That'd be fun. And it would add another element to because Terry's not a guy you're going to give screens and kind of
40:25manufactured stuff and he can't he's not going to give you a lot of yak. Same thing with digs.
40:30>> It's funny. He's got some juice. He could do that.
40:32>> You know what's funny? That's all Terry did in college.
40:34>> Yeah, I know. But yeah, so I I I want to believe Brett, but I feel like I I've been commandered enough to where I'm
40:43kind of hesitant. Okay.
40:44>> Yeah, agree. The other the other thing with Williams, I have to say, he picked 14, which one of my kind of like loose
40:51comps for him was Aman Ra St. Brown. I thought he had a lot of that to his game. And so he's wearing 14. He's
40:56relatively the same complexion as Aman Ra. They like they kind of look the same if we're being honest. Same build, right? 5'11ish,
41:04190, 195. They got some muscles, you know. Anyways, >> uh let's move on.
41:11>> I'm not going to follow you down that road. I know you're baiting me to follow you down that road. I I will watch you
41:15as you tread down the road though.
41:17>> I'll just pivot. I'll just move on. Kyle Williams and in in some regards uh >> Kahan Booty, >> but Kyle Williams is playing good in the
41:27preseason. He is annihilated both games.
41:30Um in fact, he had a long touchdown called back even. His numbers would look even more ridiculous, but >> he looks really good, especially
41:39specifically against man coverage when lined up on the outside. He's looked really good, right?
41:44>> And then we already have a log jam where like it seems like Pop Douglas when they go three receivers, Pop Douglas is
41:50playing a lot in the slot. So you've got Romeo Dubs, you got M. Hollands, and you've got AJ Brown. Where does Kyle
41:57Williams play? Where does Kahan Booty play? But more I think Williams ascension here could mean a Kahan Booty trade. Team building wise, I'm not sure.
42:05I love that because Booty is a very cheap costcontrolled receiver at a very important position. But if you can get a
42:12a day two pick for him, you feel like you got to do it, right?
42:15>> I think you have to do it because I'm pulling it up right now uh live. I want to say that after this year,
42:21>> he's a free agent.
42:22>> Kan is Yeah, he's a free agent after this year. So if I'm like if I'm the Patriots, you trade him. You trade him for like if
42:30you can get a round four pick, you're probably not getting that. But like I mean even like I mean Brett, would you do it for like a
42:37pick swap in round four? Like I it feels kind of it feels kind of generous. Like he probably goes for much cheaper than
42:44that.
42:44>> Um >> I feel like he might be underelling what his value is gonna be.
42:47>> Could be. I could be. I could be. And and it's hard with the receivers like this that are especially like in this
42:53kind of like because Booty is like I think he's got a better he's a better route runner than what I've seen than
42:59what we've seen in the NFL and stuff. I I think that he's been mostly like a field stretcher for New England and
43:04stuff and the role that he's played, but I think there could be more to chew on there as an NFL player. But to your
43:10point, Kyle Williams looked freaking awesome in preseason, dude. Like, yeah, he's got a 20.4 A dot. They had him.
43:16Dude, I felt so bad for Jonathan Edwards for the Colts. That poor corner. Like, Kyle Kyle Williams was absolutely putting him in a damn blender, dude.
43:24Like, he he won. Um, so like there was such a good rep in week one of the preseason, man, against Jonathan
43:30Edwards. He won against inside leverage, got a nice like solid mreer, easy red zone fade. like he was he should have
43:38had uh another touchdown too if Tommy Dvito wasn't late and bad ball placement man like underthrow go ball where he stacked the the corner could have been
43:47another like touchdown week two he uh against Keley Ringo Ambry Thomas the only thing I'll say in week two where it
43:56gave me a little bit of like pause of like okay can how how well can he win versus like because I did see a lot of
44:03the reps like man press and stuff Like Ambry Thomas had felt like he got his hands on him, could slow him down. But I
44:10think some of that probably would have been called like a DPI in a real game um with how grabby he freaking got. There
44:15was a lot of Terry and Arnold to that to a few of those reps there, Brett. But um Kyle Williams looks good enough. If I
44:21was the Patriots, I would be shipping booty out of town, man. If I could get a round four pick for him, I would say
44:25bye-bye. Kyle Williams is our uh our our field stretcher with maybe some more gas, man. So Dantavian Wixs was traded this off seasonason for a fifth and
44:34sixth round pick and and Booty's been more productive than him. So >> fair. So like maybe a fourth.
44:41>> Yeah, I think a fourth would be good.
44:42And I think if if you get the right team that's desperate enough, you might might get a late third out of it. So
44:48>> Oh, so the Raiders. Got it.
44:50>> Yeah, there you go.
44:51>> Yeah.
44:52>> All right. A couple p uh uh sorry, a pair of rookie wide receivers, Kevin Coleman Jr. and Ted Hurst.
44:59>> Kevin Coleman Jr. with the Miami Dolphins. Ted Hurst over with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Um, yeah, I know you're a Ted Hurst guy. I'm
45:08going to let you rap about him in a second. The Kevin Coleman thing is definitely fantasy relevant because we're just dying for a Dolphins receiver
45:15to establish himself. The only problem is like Malik Washington's probably the most established receiver on the roster >> and Kevin Coleman's got to compete with
45:24him. like of all the spots he's got to compete for, he's got to compete with the one guy who kind of has some some
45:30gas, I guess. So, uh, that said, it's it's promising to see. I I predicted early on in the the offseason after the
45:37draft that he would eventually be their starting slot receiver this year, >> not next year, this year. So, there's a chance by the end of the year, Derek,
45:45they have three rookies starting at wide receiver with Chris Bell, Caleb Douglas, and Kevin Coleman Jr., >> I think that's the best three wide
45:52receivers on this roster. I I'm full agreement, man. Like I I said this uh I think right after the draft, I was like
45:58Kevin Coleman Jr. will be starting for the Miami Dolphins by the end of the year. I I love his game, man. Like I
46:04think he's Wandell Robinson. Uh basically 2.0 and not the early career Well. I want to be very like particular about that. Later career Well last year
46:14at the Giants where you saw because dude, we saw it in second week of the preseason. There is verticality to his
46:21game. He got up the field on a slot fade. He could have had another big play, too. But Cam Miller can't get the
46:26damn ball out on time, dude. And poor ball punch thrown behind him, >> dude. He could have had a monster stat
46:32line if he got like decent targets in week two of the preseason. He was getting open at Nauseium. And the thing
46:40that I think translated for Kevin Coleman Jr. is his physicality, man. He plays bigger than his freaking size. He runs like a running back in the open
46:49field. He can create Yak. He can offer verticality. Now, is he a slot predominant player? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean that he can't be freaking
46:57good. And I think that that slot archetype is the only reason that he didn't test like a demon that he fell to
47:03round six. I had like a round four grade on him. I'm absolutely with you. He will be a starter by the end of this uh
47:11season. So, I'm totally with you on Kevin Coleman Jr., man. Love him as a player. And just on Ted Hurst, he didn't
47:18get much playing time in week two. Uh he did play all snap, eight snaps with Baker Mayfield on the field, but I was
47:25so encouraged what we saw in his week one usage. Now, some people could say, "Oh, got six targets on 15 routes.
47:31Didn't do a ton." But again, he was another victim of poor quarterback play in the preeason. He should have had a
47:38touchdown that was called back. The the route tree that they asked Ted Hurst, it wasn't. And I dude I I hate this term
47:46and I hate that the fantasy community has made this term a thing. The sacrificial X. Yeah, me too.
47:52>> Like d I absolutely hate it. Just say, okay, field stretcher or the guy that's running downfield on sale and dagger.
47:59Fine. Like let's describe it what it is of like what you're actually talking about. The guy that's running clear outs for everybody else getting volume. That
48:07doesn't necessarily always mean the freaking X position. And so like with Ted Hurst, he played the X in preseason, but again going back to this, you saw a
48:16lot of slants, out routes, underneath intermediate route tree, and he looked good doing it, man. He had a nice split release on a slant versus inside
48:26leverage when I was like, ah, cook Teddy. Cook him. Cook him Teddy. I I love the kid. I think he's gonna be
48:32starter over Jaylen McMillan who the Hasn't Tampa showed us, Brett, over the last two years. Everybody's like, "Oh, we love Jaylen McMillan." I was like,
48:40Tampa Bay doesn't seem to love him. They keep drafting wide receivers to go take his job, dude.
48:44>> Yeah, the the I like that you said the X receiver thing cuz it's convinced people that playing X receiver is bad for
48:51fantasy. But let me let me try this. We we tracked us at fantasy points data.
48:55And by the way, if you've never used the fantasy points data suite, please go to data.fantasy points.com. We also have the next edition of that coming very
49:03soon. Um [clears throat] >> which which I hear looks really good, Brett. I hear from >> I'm sure you haven't seen it. Anyways,
49:08we >> we track this stuff. Let me just read you the players who lead the NFL and routes run from the X position. We have
49:16George Pickins, Tedo McMillan, Jamar Chase, Nico Collins, Courtland Sutton, Jameson Williams, T. Higgins, Justin Jefferson, JSN, AJ Brown,
49:26Devonte Adams. I I mean other Yeah. Right. The only guys we're missing from that list is like Puka and Amra.
49:36And they still run, you know, they're at the X like 50% of the time. So, whatever.
49:40>> Sacrificial though, Brett. It's all sacrificial. They They don't matter in fantasy, Brett. At least so I've been told.
49:46>> Exactly. Um, all right. Let's round this baby out with uh and I have a bonus a bonus thing for you after we're done.
49:53Not on the show sheet, but >> um Terrence Ferguson.
49:58>> Terrence Ferguson. Um Nate Atkins, one of the beat writers, actually friend of I shouldn't say friend of mine, acquaintance of mine. I knew him
50:07personally in his days. He um he was a beat reporter for the Detroit Lions. We had I was also media credential back
50:14then, back in those days, so I know Nate kind of well. We still keep in touch in the DM sometimes. But he reported
50:21that Terrence Ferguson, he did an interview with him actually. Terrence Ferguson is training at the X, the Z, the F, the Y.
50:32>> He's playing all the positions. And this coincides with an early report we got out of camp that Ferguson was basically
50:40the W team's wide receiver three. And what's even crazier is I asked Scott Bar on our uh we recorded a show Friday and
50:46I asked him >> if the Rams just announced Terrence Ferguson as a wide receiver, how would that affect his ADP? [snorts]
50:54And I think you're kind of seeing it.
50:56The hype is really starting to ramp up.
50:57Scott already has the man >> tight end 15, which is way above market.
51:03>> Way above market. And got to remember there's other good or I should say accomplished tight ends on the roster with
51:09>> Tyler Higgby and I thought Kobe Parkinson had a fantastic season last year.
51:13>> So the fact that Ferguson's getting this much steam on a team that led the NFL in 13 personnel usage last year
51:19>> that's going to dabble in 12, it is really crazy. It doesn't shock me that they're finding ways to use this man.
51:25And it could be another Shawn McVey special where every year he adds a wrinkle to the playbook that just destroys the league.
51:32>> Dude, I Yeah, I'm I'm in real time. I'm bumping my TUR rank up. Um because so many things that you just outlined
51:41there. And the the thing that I also want to tell everybody at home is I it's never a bad idea to invest in hyper
51:49athletic just tight ends all it is the most correlated position in all of fantasy to athleticism. You do not see
52:00any schmo tight ends that run a 4748 as top five elite fantasy tight ends top seven top 10 guys. It just does not
52:08happen. So whether we want to invest in Shawn McVey, we want to invest in this offensive ecosystem that's probably a top five 10 scoring offense yet again.
52:16Go ahead, Brett.
52:17>> There's only two Just to to continue your point, >> there's only two tight ends in NFL history to have over I believe it's 800
52:26receiving yards that didn't test as elite athletes. Do you know the two?
52:30>> I know one of the two. One of them is Kyle Rudolph, is it not?
52:33>> No. Rudolph did test as an elite athlete, actually. Oh, did he? Low end of elite. Uh, Zack Z.
52:38>> Okay.
52:39>> And Jordan Reed. Who? And when Jordan Reed tested, he had a torn hamstring.
52:43>> I was like, he was hurt though, too.
52:44Yeah.
52:45>> The point being is like he probably was an elite athlete even. And there's only two ever.
52:50>> That's it.
52:51>> That's that's crazy. So, >> end of list, man. And to so all the stuff with Terren Ferguson, like I is it
52:57scary that this is he is he is saddled with a lot of really talented players next to him in Tyler Hickey, Kobe
53:05Parkinson. Sure. It is. And >> not if they make him a receiver, though.
53:10>> No, you're right. And to that point, I mean, we go back to rookie year usage.
53:14He played 49.8% out of the slot. He also was 22 uh.2% out wide. So, basically, this dude was never in line and he had a
53:24freaking 17.9 A dot, Brett. So, like >> they were using him as the shot guy like in late season.
53:30>> He was the seam guy. He was the shot guy. He was the shot play guy. So, it's like if Yeah. They're going to sit here
53:35and give him more of the full route tree and, you know, as we like to talk about a ton, can make him more of like in in
53:43with being the shot guy, also the dump and run tight end and just like let his athleticism play up. Uh, hell yes. I'm
53:49in.
53:51>> All right.
53:53Now that that's over with, I can ask you the question. I've actually brought you on the show to ask you.
53:58>> Oh dear.
53:59>> And I wanted to start the show with this, but I know Trey Motion Man, the producer, would have killed me. I also
54:04know the listeners probably would have killed me. So, if you're done with the conversation, you you guys can tune out.
54:10I got to hear Derrick's answer on this question, though.
54:12>> I can't have you on my show and not ask you who what the best new metal release of THE YEAR IS.
54:20>> OH, YOU BEAUTIFUL, beautiful man. You Oh gosh. Um, okay. I'm in between a few different
54:29things now. I I will say right now, um I am pining uh as we're recording this, Bearitude's new album is coming out this
54:38week that has been on my to-do uh list for or at least like going to be like up there with top albums of the year right
54:47now. But I will say outside of that, um, the best metal release of the year, I'm in between Motionless and White and
54:57When President drops their their new album.
55:00>> It's not out. You can't put an album out that's not out.
55:02>> Fine, fine, fine. All right, then. I will go I'll go with Motionless and White, dude. Only because >> Great answer,
55:08>> bro. Their new album is so freaking sick. There's so many good lyrics and especially in the world that the social
55:16media world that we live in, there's so much good lyrical content. Um, two songs like automatically popped to my mind.
55:23Um, one playing God which is has one of the best features of any uh with Corey Taylor for anybody that's not doesn't
55:30know Stone Sour. Um, Slipnot is on that song. It is >> Stone Sour as the lead there for >> I did. I know. I buried the lead. I
55:38buried the lead. Okay. But that song is savage. so many pinch harmonics and it's so freaking nasty that I love it. And
55:46then uh another if you want to listen to only two songs off this album, it's Playing God and then it's Login Crash
55:54Out and it talks about all the lyrical content is about the social media world and basically like >> if this is where the world is going like
56:01I think one of his lines is uh if this is where life is going then I'd rather eff and die. It it is such a savage
56:08album. I love it so much, Brad. And I love you for giving me this question.
56:13>> Yes. All right. I'm gonna give you my answer, too, because I know you want to hear it.
56:16>> Oh, I do. I do.
56:17>> Um, Above Below, back in February came out with a new album called I guess it was Nowhere.
56:22>> Not only do I think it's the best album of the year, it's probably the best album since Sleep Token released Take Me
56:26Back to Eden.
56:28>> Damn, that's a take. That is a take.
56:31>> It's >> That's one hell of a take, my friend.
56:33>> But I know I'm a little bit more into the math rock than you are, the math metal. And it it's just it's a little
56:39proggy, but it's awesome. Um, you know, if I had to go runner up, I'd go periphery uh >> A Pale White Dot.
56:47>> So, both both again Prague metal. So, >> yeah. And and not not part of this conversation, but because of both of the
56:55last two bands that uh I think uh for my birthday this year, I'm probably just going to give a birthday present to
57:00myself and buy me a new seven string.
57:02So, you know, there's that.
57:03>> I almost sent you a video of me riffing a seven string yesterday.
57:06>> Oh, you need to. You need to I I'll send you a few videos of me riffing the old uh six string uh double cutaway right
57:12here behind my right shoulder.
57:13>> Let's go.
57:15>> All right. Well, we got to get out of here. Thanks for the metal discussion, Derek. Also, thank you for coming on the
57:20show. Tell people where they can find your work.
57:23>> Everything's a fantasy pros, betting pros. You can follow me on basically every social platform at Dbro FFB. And uh I've been trying to keep my top 200,
57:33which is out there. And literally, it's exactly what it sounds like. I've got 200 uh quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends. Yes. And I wrote
57:40up kickers, and defense uh live on the site right now. I've been trying to keep those ranks and notes up to date within
57:46like 20 minutes of any news that's dropping and everything right there. So, um you can find all that at Fantasy Pros, man. Love you, Brett. This is a
57:53fantastic show, my friend. I love you.
