Chase Brown

PositiveProjection0:00

Chase Brown's RB1 expectations are fading after a rough start. Despite an awesome role in a good offense with target upside, he ranks 26th in yards per carry, 20th in explosive rush rate, dead last in 15-yard runs on 71 carries, 27th in rushing yards over expected, 24th in yards per attempt, and 20th in PPR points per game. Through five weeks he has yet to hit 20-plus PPR points (scammed his way to 19 in week four on 11 catches for 71 yards and nine carries for 10 yards) and has not reached 100 rushing yards. Ron Stewart reassesses him as a high-end RB2 rather than mid to low-end RB1, though playoff league-winner upside remains on the table if role stabilizes. Samaje Perine is now fully in the mix as a backup RB competing for carries; in week 14, Perine out-carried Brown 14 to 13 (roughly a 75/25 split), and when Brown fumbles, the carry distribution swings further in Perine's direction, threatening Brown's role stability heading into the bye week.

Samaje Perine is now fully in the mix as a backup RB competing with Chase Brown for carries. 0:00Chase Brown, he had an awesome role,
0:01awesome offense. He gets targets. This
0:03team's offensive line was better than
0:05expected. Their defense is better than
0:06expected. All these things really go
0:08towards Chase Brown. The issue is you're
0:09buying a role in a good offense instead
0:11of a talented player in a potentially
0:13good offense like a Kenneth Walker. Now,
0:15of course, hindsight's 20/20, but this
0:17was always the concern and it is rearing
0:19its ugly head. This is from Data Rama on
0:21the bottom here. He is 26th in yards per
0:23carry, 20th in explosive rush rate, dead
0:25last in 15-yard runs on 71 carries, 27th
0:28in rushing yards over expected, 24th in
0:30my cycle sports per attempt, 20th in
0:31points per game in happy PPR, and he was
0:33out-carried by Samaje Perine this week
0:3514 to 13 from Ryan Heath up top. Kind of
0:37like a 75/25 split. He fumbles, things
0:39swing back in Perine's direction. Now,
0:40they go on bye. Is there a chance they
0:41come out of bye and this was just kind
0:43of a fumble punishment? Sure, we're
0:46through five weeks he's yet to have
0:4720-plus PPR points. He kind of scammed
0:49his way into 19 points in week four. We
0:51had 11 catches for 71 yards, just nine
0:53carries for 10 yards. He's yet to hit
0:54100 yards rushing, and now Perine is
0:57fully in the mix. He's much more of a
0:59high-end RB2 than he is this like mid to
1:02low-end RB1. He was like a legitimate
1:05league winner last year in the fantasy
1:06football playoffs. That is still all on
1:08the table for Chase Brown, I will say.
1:09So, it's not fully over for him. It's
1:11just a really rough start, and you kind
1:13of have to recalibrate expectation here.
