0:00This is the Fantasy Football Unlimited Podcast with your host Kevin Murray Welcome to the Fantasy Football Unlimited Podcast.
0:05I am so excited for this show. We're gonna have a ton of great energy.
0:10I know that for sure because I've seen it in person.
0:13I've experienced it in person. The Fantasy Football Expo was once taken over by this man and his podcast partner.
0:18But you know, let's go. Let's do it. Welcome to the Fantasy Football Show.
0:22It's Johnny Maine and welcome to the show my man.
0:25Hey, what's up man? What's up? I appreciate you having me on man.
0:29I'm super excited about this. I've seen a lot of your work man and you know, seeing you've had a couple of
0:35my homies on here, Nick and Joe. So I'm ready to add to the list man.
0:39Let's go. I always think about that back to that expo, you know, it was such a fun one because couple expos
0:45in you know people are coming back for the third time.
0:49You know, is the energy dipping a little bit?
0:51Is there gonna be, you know, a little let down?
0:54Is it just kind of the same stuff each day?
0:57And then you guys show up and you took over the expo.
1:00You brought so much fun energy to the event.
1:03It really, it really was exciting to see and it's been awesome to see what you've been doing in this fantasy football
1:09space in this community, in this industry. So for listeners and viewers that aren't familiar with your work, you know, share what
1:15you're up to share with the fantasy football shows all about.
1:18Oh man, the fantasy football show. It, it actually is me and my man, Nick Wilcox does some stuff with fan tracks.
1:24He does. And every Sunday we're on man. We go, you know, we give our breakdown of games.
1:29We hit DFS percentages and ownerships. Nick's got his prop shops.
1:32We just, you know, talk. We kind of make fun of each other about bad takes that we have good takes that we have.
1:39So then we also have our waiver wire show as well on Monday night, right before kickoff on Monday night football.
1:45We, Nick has his props for that right there.
1:48We normally build a single game DFS play. So yeah, so that's, that's really what it is, man.
1:53During the off season, you know, we had a chance to have like a lot of like really, really amazing guests on there as well in the show.
2:00But right now, man, like that's what we got going on.
2:03So you can catch us there. I'm working on something in the background with one of my homies, Haywood from the DFS side of things.
2:11So more to come from the fantasy football show, but you can find us on YouTube, the fantasy football show, LLC.
2:16You can obviously find just me, Johnny main three, seven, one, eight, five.
2:20Everything is streamed there. TikTok, Instagram, Facebook for my OGs.
2:23We actually, we put everything on Spotify as well.
2:25So we have it all out there right now.
2:28So like, you know, if you want to check out our content, which I really, really would be appreciative if you did go check it out, man.
2:35It's always a good time. Always a lot of fun, great knowledge, great times, great energy, man.
2:40Love it. Love it. Well, let's, let's dive into the background.
2:43Like where did it all begin? The passion for sports?
2:46Man, passion for sports for me began, I think I was probably in fifth grade, fifth grade or so.
2:51And, you know, just to kind of make a long story short, you know, I always like to share this story.
2:57Life wasn't really great for me, man. Both my parents passed away before I was 16.
3:02And my father, one of the last interactions like I had with him, he was just like, he was really adamant.
3:08I was like in third or fourth grade, he passed away in a car crash and he was just, you know, like,
3:14hey, man, it'd be really cool, man, to see like one of my kids be really successful in sports.
3:19And that was like the last conversation like I actually had with him.
3:23So like, I just really held on to it.
3:25And I was like, all right, cool. So, you know, I dabbled in baseball and, you know, then I finally played basketball when I was in seventh grade.
3:33But I played football when I was in sixth grade and it was miserable.
3:37And the first year it was miserable and I figured it out the next year.
3:41And from that point, man, I had like just such a blast playing football.
3:45My mom was scared for me to play. She didn't want me to break any bones.
3:50And then, you know, I started scoring touchdowns and stuff.
3:53And it was cool. And she really enjoyed it.
3:55And then she passed away going into the summer of my eighth grade year.
3:59And it was just really something, man, that just kept me on the straight and narrow, man.
4:04You know, I had a lot of good, great guys in my life, man, great football coaches, man, to kind of keep
4:10me accountable for things and help kind of mold me into, help mold me into the guy that I am today.
4:16And just from that point, man, I just like became like enamored with like stats and football and basketball.
4:21And just from that point on, man, I've just I've been in love with it, man.
4:26I mean, that's an incredible story. I can't imagine, you know, experiencing what you experienced.
4:30And sometimes, you know, something like sports can can be a vessel to kind of get you through the most difficult times.
4:36Again, I can't even imagine what that must have been like for you.
4:40But obviously, you've you've you've grown and you've turned into an outstanding human being.
4:44So I'm sure they would both be, you know, incredibly proud of you and everything that you've accomplished when it comes to sports, though.
4:51Like, you know, so I know you're Steelers guy.
4:53Let's talk about the, you know, favorite teams and favorite players across the sports spectrum growing up.
4:58Yeah, man. Diehard Steelers fan for sure, dude. I'm still just trying to, like, get over what happened with Joey Porter Jr., man.
5:04I woke up to that this morning and I was just like, you have got to be kidding me right now.
5:10And at all places, man, the Dallas Cowboys of all plays.
5:13The Cowboys again. But yeah, like Cordell Stewart was was my favorite football player growing up.
5:18I wanted to be just like him, man. I thought he was just like the coolest dude ever.
5:23Punt, pass, you know, running back, wide receiver. And so, you know, during this time frame, I was like, you know, like
5:29I wouldn't do all of those things. I could not throw a football to save my life.
5:34So that's that's actually the most comical part of it.
5:37But, you know, he was he was the guy for me.
5:40It was just I had never seen anything like it.
5:42And I think he was so far ahead of his time.
5:46Like if you drop him in this era right now.
5:48Gosh, man, what what an electric player. That's that's he's my favorite football player.
5:52But other athletes that like I just like love growing up and this is all in no particular order either for me.
5:58Kobe was a big Kobe fan. I was a Kobe fan before it was cool.
6:03Penny Hardaway was a big, big fan of mine.
6:05I was a big fan of his, I should say, because he was from Tennessee.
6:09And so am I. LeBron James is my goat.
6:12No question for me. LeBron, MJ, Ray Lewis had nothing but respect for him.
6:16And just the way he was the way he played the game.
6:19It was hard to to to not Jamal Lewis.
6:22I'm a big UT guy. So University of Tennessee.
6:24So him, Peyton Manning, Reggie White, Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey, Troy Palamalu, Big Ben, Ken Griffey Jr.
6:29on the baseball side of things. There you go.
6:32Yeah, man. Like a lot of a lot of guys, man.
6:35And I'm you know, I'm obviously leaving some guys off, man, because I could like name like probably 30 more guys that
6:41like I just absolutely love in the in the, you know, of the sporting realm.
6:45But those were really the players for me as far as teams.
6:48You see the Steelers stuff in the background. So then, as I mentioned, I'm originally from Tennessee.
6:53That's where I was born and raised. So I'm a huge UT Vols fan.
6:57Memphis Grizzlies as well. Baseball. I don't really dabble too much in that.
7:01I just kind of I just love watching October baseball.
7:04But like I said, Ken Griffey Jr. was my favorite player growing up.
7:07So if I had to have a team for baseball, I'd probably say it'd be the Seattle Mariners.
7:12Hey, go out. Yeah. But yeah, those are those are a few of my favorite players.
7:17And those are my teams right there. Well, I love you know, I can go on for the next hour talking about everything you just said right there.
7:25Obviously, I'm a Seattle guy, Mariners guy. Griffey, just special.
7:27Even if you didn't love baseball, you just you see that swing.
7:31You fall in love for sure. Yes, sir. But man, you mentioned, you know, obviously he's been Penny.
7:36And I remember when Penny was at Memphis and and that Cordell Stewart.
7:39Like, I mean, if people don't know Cordell Stewart, I mean, look that up like that guy.
7:44That guy could do it all. Didn't he play quarterback?
7:47Quarterback. He played quarterback. He played quarterback. Colorado. Yeah.
7:50And even in the league, quarterback, he played running back.
7:52He played wide receiver. He even punted a couple of times.
7:55I mean, just how like even like the thing for me that was like so unique was that, you know, Bill Cowher is so like old school.
8:03But for him to be so innovative with a player like that early on, I think just speaks volumes to him and
8:09just, you know, where he was at, like as a coach.
8:12Just again, man, Cordell was just so far ahead of his time, man.
8:16And like obviously now, like with the dual threat quarterbacks that we have now in the league, you know, I just think
8:22about him sometimes playing in this era. And just I'm like, man, gosh, he would crush.
8:27So and like, man, we can obviously the Steelers could use a guy like that right now.
8:31Yeah. For sure. Yeah. And you mentioned, you know, some Tennessee.
8:34I remember as a kid, like remember the backfield with Chuck Webb and Reggie Cobb.
8:39I think those are the names, right? It was Cobb.
8:42Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Cool backfield. Oh, man. Dude, Tennessee had like, man, so many, so many really good players, man.
8:47You know, Peerless Price, Travis Henry, Travis Stevens, Jason Witten, you know, a lot of guys, you know, Al Wilson.
8:53Eric Berry, man, is a guy that's like, man, probably one of the most underrated college players, man.
8:58If it wasn't for injury, I think, you know, he'd be up there.
9:01You know, when you talk about safety play with, you know, guys like Troy Palamado and Ed Reed.
9:06But yeah, Tennessee has been really loaded. Obviously, we lost a tough one last week at home against Arch Manning.
9:12But I just love the way the program's going now, honestly, with Hypel and what he's got going on.
9:17And, you know, they got a true freshman quarterback out there.
9:21And I think, you know, there's still a lot of football left.
9:24And, you know, maybe we can sneak into the playoffs this year, man.
9:28See what happens. See what happens. I love, again, I love everything you said there because, you know, you shout out even some Baltimore Ravens players.
9:35Yeah. Which, you know, as a Steelers fan, that's got to be difficult.
9:38But respect. It's hard not to respect the game that Ray Lewis had and all that.
9:43How did you become a Pittsburgh Steelers fan coming from Tennessee?
9:46Like, growing up in Tennessee, we didn't have the Titans growing up.
9:49We didn't have any sports. And to me, it's still so funny to see, like, Nashville as, like, a destination place now.
9:56You know, I'm 43, man. And, you know, growing up, it just was like, it was just like a country city.
10:01And it wasn't even considered a city like that.
10:04You know what I mean? Yeah. So there was no real sports teams around.
10:08Like, you got the chance. Like, growing up, you would watch the Braves on TBS, the Cubs on WGN.
10:13And it was just like, okay, like, pick a team that's, like, you know, regionally close to you to, you know, to root for.
10:20And a lot of my family was huge Pittsburgh Steelers fans.
10:23So because they were all huge Pittsburgh Steelers fans and, you know, I started getting into football around, like, you know, like I said, fifth, sixth grade.
10:31I was like, okay, like, let's check this out.
10:33And they were actually, they were playing the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.
10:37And, you know, obviously the run that Neil O'Donnell had in that team and, you know, Bill Cowher, you know, being a
10:43great coach and just not being able to get there.
10:46And it was like, okay, like, this team is fun.
10:49This team is fun. Cordell Stewart is fun. And I was like, okay, like, that's, this is it.
10:54Like, this is going to be my team. It's the Pittsburgh Steelers.
10:57And it just kind of happened like that right there with Cordell Stewart.
11:01And then, you know, obviously they had the acquisition of Jerome Bettis.
11:04So that was fun to just see this huge human being out there just running people over and then, you know, playing
11:10video games with my friends and stuff. It was always fun to play with Jerome Bettis, you know, running guys over and
11:16Cordell Stewart running around in that defense. So, yeah, so it just, it just happened like that.
11:21And, you know, the Titans came to Tennessee, I believe, in 2000 or 2001.
11:25They played in Memphis for, I think, two years.
11:28And that was about four hours west of where I lived.
11:31And a lot of people in Tennessee were Steeler fans as well.
11:34So when the Titans came, a lot of people just, you know, migrated to the Titans.
11:39I did not, like, I stayed with the Titans, especially when the Titans went to the Super Bowl.
11:44Everybody became a Titans fan then. But, no, I just stayed with them.
11:47And the love has been there ever since, man.
11:50Love it, love it. Well, as a sports fan, is there one loss that really stands out, like the worst loss you've experienced?
11:56Yeah, actually, yeah. There's one. I could, you know, I could say all the times Tom Brady got us.
12:02But, like, for me, man, it's 2012, the Tim Tebow walk-off.
12:05Oh, yeah. Man, that one, I think I was stuck in my chair for a solid hour after that game because I couldn't believe that we just lost.
12:13And, of course, you know, as I'm saying all this, Tim Tebow is a Florida guy.
12:17So this is double time hurt for me. Because I've never, you know, I've never been a Tebow guy at all, man.
12:23And so, you know, to see him, you know, completely crush, you know, Tennessee in college and then for him to do
12:29that to the Steelers in 2012, which I really like that roster in 2012 that the Steelers had.
12:34That was probably the worst loss I can think of just because that was a really good football team.
12:40And, yeah, we got beat on, you know, the first play, of course.
12:43You know, the overtime rule at that time is like, hey, like, if you score on the first play, you don't even get a shot.
12:50And the first play, that was it, man. Yeah, such a shocking, you know, that crossed Demarius Thomas and he takes him to the house.
12:57Yeah, that had no stung. That had no stung.
13:00How about the best moment as a sports fan for you?
13:03You know, most people would probably expect for me to say, you know, the Arizona Super Bowl.
13:08But I mentioned Tom Brady. Tom Brady is single-handedly responsible for ruining my young adulthood, as I'm pretty sure he's single-handedly responsible
13:14for ruining a lot of people's young adulthood. But for me, man, it was beating Tom Brady in 2018, you know, in Pittsburgh.
13:20That was probably the one thing, like, I won't forget.
13:23I was, like, super down. I was, like, sick as a dog.
13:27I was down in the dumps all week. I was like, great, man.
13:30I was like, you know, the Steelers, like, they didn't make it to the playoffs.
13:35That was, like, the Antonio Brown, you know, shenanigans here before, you know, he went off to Oakland.
13:40I was like, man, this sucks. I was like, you know, we got this jerk coming in here now.
13:45And he's about to get ready to kill us.
13:47And, you know, he's going to continue to keep winning.
13:50And, you know, the team just played lights out that game.
13:53And I think, you know, for any Steelers fan to be able to beat, finally beat Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, that's
14:00a highlight for me that I won't ever forget.
14:02And I know Joe Hayden, he got the big interception.
14:05And he's got, you know, he's got pitchers and, you know, all this stuff or whatever about it.
14:10And he even recalls it as being one of the best moments of his career.
14:14And I would say, like, for me, that's a win I won't forget is that one right there.
14:19Love it. It's always big to avenge, you know, a rival like that for sure.
14:23Yeah. How about fantasy sports? When did you discover the game?
14:26Man, for me, fantasy football happened. I was a senior in high school.
14:30So it was around 2002. And I had a buddy of mine.
14:33And we all played football. And he's like, hey, man, he's like, have you ever played fantasy football?
14:39I was like, no. I was like, what is this?
14:41He's like, well, you know, he's like, you pick players.
14:44He was like, and the players that you pick, they get points for whatever it is that they do on the field.
14:50And I was like, say less. Like, I'm in right now.
14:53Like, I'm in. And so we started playing. We started playing with, like, a lot of, like, guys that, like, played football.
15:00We all played football together. And our first league was, like, I think it was on the Yahoo League.
15:05And, man, just to, like, date it, I'm pretty sure I remember.
15:08I can't remember the other Seahawks receiver name, but Matt Hasselback.
15:11It was Matt Hasselback time for you, man. They were actually Seahawks players, actually.
15:15Was it Corrine Robinson? Yeah, Corrine Robinson. Gerald Jackson.
15:18Yes, that's good. Yeah, yeah. Those were the guys that I actually had both of those guys on my roster.
15:23And, you know, from that moment on, man, like, we all, like, continued to play.
15:28We all, like, played together, like, as a group.
15:30And it was, like, a really good way for all of us to, like, kind of stay in contact and stuff or
15:36whatever, especially when I moved up north, it was just a really great way for all of us to stay in contact
15:43and to be able to talk to each other and talk a little smack.
15:46So that was my first fantasy football experience was 2002, man.
15:50Okay, wow. Now, playing in a bunch of leagues, I assume, what's the one league that's, like, the most important to you at this point?
15:57Oh, man. I know I'm normally big on just, like, answering the question straight, but I got two leagues that are like that.
16:03But I have one that's an auction keeper league I've been running now for 13 years now going.
16:08And it's a lot of, like I said, it's, like, you know, a lot of my buddies back home in Tennessee and,
16:14like, the other half of my buddies up here up north.
16:17So we do that. So that one's a pretty big deal to me.
16:21The people that are here, man, we always meet up at a local bar or whatever, hang out, you know, and draft.
16:27The other one that's a big deal is obviously, like I said, moving up north now, man, like having, like, you know,
16:33a different and a new group of friends. We draft locally right here at a bar.
16:38It's a live draft. You know, normally, man, like this year we get up.
16:42Actually, I played golf this year, which I was brutal at.
16:45Probably, like, the third time in my life I've played golf, man.
16:48Love it. So we got up, man. We played, you know, played some golf.
16:52Then after that, man, we went, you know, went to one of my buddies' house, swam in the pool, played some cornhole.
16:58We go back up to the bar. We draft every year.
17:01Like, it's a random draft order. So this year we had a wheel.
17:05And you spin the wheel, you know, get your draft place.
17:08Well, the next person comes up and they spin the wheel and maybe they can take your draft place or maybe they
17:14can slide the board to the left or maybe they can slide the board to the right.
17:19So I started off with the number three pick.
17:22And before I knew it, when it was time to draft, I ended up with the number nine pick.
17:27But it's always fun, man. You know, the wives, they come up.
17:30They help out with the board. And that's always fun because, you know, some of them, you know, one of my buddies,
17:36his wife, like she knows the players. But like, you know, the rest of the wives are kind of like, no, is it blue?
17:43Is it red? Is it tight? Like, oh, what is it?
17:46So, so, yeah, so that's a big deal for me, man.
17:49That's our local draft. We have a trophy, a moving trophy.
17:52And if you win, you have your name on it.
17:55You get to keep it. So obviously there's a lot of like pictures and banners and stuff like banter going back and forth about that.
18:02So, yeah, so those are my two big leagues.
18:05Love that. That's good stuff. Now, what determines the order of who, of the spinning the wheel?
18:10Nothing, man. Like, it's just like, all right, like, hey, like you, like you go first.
18:14And then you go first. And then like, it's just a matter of like, okay, well, now you go.
18:19All right, now you go. And like, it's been random.
18:22Like, this was the first time like they actually bought the wheel.
18:26The last time they, the last time we, we did, we've done a couple things.
18:30We've done like, you know, the name out of the hat.
18:33We've done Spotify, you know, music songs. Tried to get them to do.
18:37Do you remember the guys that were there at the, the expo a couple of years ago?
18:41The generations guys. Sounds familiar. Yeah. The generations guys where you like just pick, you know, you pick a player and it would generate stats from one.
18:49Yeah. Those guys. I was like, I was like, yo, like that would be like super dope to do that.
18:55Well, these guys, they're like, well, how do we know which, well, how do we know which game?
19:00And what it's, uh, we didn't get a chance to do that, but I'm a auction guy myself, but like it was, uh, it was that.
19:07So yeah, we've done a couple of random, uh, different things to get draft orders in, uh, in the local home league.
19:13That's fun. That's fun. Now, how about just across all the leagues you've played, you know, going way back or even current leagues?
19:19Like who's, who's been your biggest rival in fantasy sports?
19:22I've got a really close friend, um, here. Um, he, he is best friends with my brother-in-law.
19:27Um, his name's RJ and we, uh, man, we play pretty much, man.
19:31All of the local leagues are like leagues that are close by.
19:34Like we all play together. And he's a super sharp guy, man.
19:37Super smart guy. Um, and it's always funny to me because like all the leagues we play in, um, you know, a
19:44lot of guys are like, oh, you know, like, you know, Johnny's here, man.
19:48You know, we got to lock in, you know, I'm like, guys, like, listen, like, it's not just me.
19:53Okay. Like RJ, like you guys are going to let RJ come in here and do work while you guys are worried about me.
20:00And he's going to come in. He's just a really mild mannered guy, but, uh, he's probably my biggest rival, man.
20:06It's, it's not a, you know, a trash talking rival.
20:08It's just more of like, Hey man, you know, there's nothing but respect here.
20:12We know. Yeah. We know, we know, uh, what we're here for.
20:16We actually have a big matchup, um, in one of the other leagues this week.
20:20We're both, um, three, you know, and I looked at his roster.
20:23I was like, golly, man. So these guys got JSN and Ken Walker this week.
20:27I was like, I'm a work. I was like, I'm a work cut out for me this week.
20:32That's good stuff. Uh, any favorite memory playing this great game of fantasy football?
20:36Uh, one of my favorite memories is, um, we played, we did an IDP league one year with, uh, with my guys
20:43back in Tennessee and RJ was actually in that league as well.
20:46Um, but we, we did an IDP league and I was playing, uh, against the number one seed, uh, this guy, Steven,
20:52and he's a monster trash talker, man. He actually, I believe now he's our, I think he coaches linebackers or secondary back
20:58in my high school now, um, or whatever. And, uh, he, dude, he just, this guy, man, he talks so much trash
21:04all the time, man, all the time. And he talked and talked and talked.
21:08And, uh, I thought I'd lost, uh, by like two or three points, but what happened was, um, you know, with IDP, they do the official stack corrections.
21:16So they went back and they did a couple official stack corrections on Tuesday and they credited, uh, one of my defensive
21:22players with a fumble recovery and with a tackle.
21:25And I beat him by like 0.6 and went on to win the ship.
21:29It was like, it was the best man. It was the best.
21:32Cause he had, he had nothing to say. He's like, Oh man, well, you know, sometimes you lose sometimes like, Oh yeah.
21:38Now sometimes you win and sometimes you lose now.
21:41Okay. I love it. I, I once saw a guy with a stack correction, drop his whole team.
21:46Cause he thought the commissioner did it to him.
21:49Like that was way back in the day, you know, a little more wild west.
21:53Um, that was probably early two thousands. And yeah, this guy was livid because of a stack correction.
21:58He totally thought it was a conspiracy against him.
22:00So at least that guy took it, you know, took it there.
22:04Yeah. Yeah. That's awesome. Uh, so going back to those early days, you know, you know, getting on you, Yahoo or early
22:10content, uh, you know, when you're doing fantasy, do you remember like some of the resources back then?
22:15Like some of the analysts that you, that you followed or any of the content you followed?
22:20I mean, that was so far back in the day, man.
22:23Um, you know, it was really just like, um, man, we played on one website, um, fan ball.
22:28We played on that for a little bit. Um, that was cool, but like really, man, Matthew Berry.
22:33I mean, that's really, you know, like it's it, Matthew Berry, um, was really the guy, um, like in that space for
22:39me, man, that like, I just, you know, I paid a lot of attention to.
22:43And then obviously like any like mild blurb that you could get, you know, then like about fantasy football, you would just
22:49kind of like grab onto it, um, and kind of run with it.
22:53And then like, you know, very subtly, like, you know, they would have it like on ESPN and stuff.
22:58And it was very like 10 team ish kind of deal.
23:02And like, we played in a lot of like 12 teams.
23:05Um, but like, yeah, Matthew Berry would have been the guy for me and Fabiano.
23:09Um, you know, obviously just because like the NFL network deal, uh, or whatever, those were really like the two guys, but
23:15like, obviously like his time evolved and content kind of, you know, content did grow.
23:19Um, there were definitely some other people, uh, that I did start to, you know, watch, read and pay attention to.
23:25Well, in today's day, like, what are your favorite resources, you know, sites, channels, analysts out there?
23:30Oh man, I got a lot, dude. Um, like one of my favorite places, like, um, like I said, I'm a big DFS guy.
23:37Uh, one of my favorite places, um, I, I still love to listen to, um, is Stochastic, um, and Lafayette.
23:42Um, I really, really enjoy his content. Um, I really enjoy Stochastic's content, um, with what they have going on there.
23:48Um, it's, it's a lot of fun. It's very interactive.
23:51Uh, but like right now, man, like as far as like season long stuff and things like that, man, there's, there's a boatload.
23:57Uh, uh, fantasy points is a, is a place that like, um, you know, I spend a lot of time, like listening
24:04to those guys, the guru in the morning as I'm dropping off the kids or after I've dropped off the kids, like
24:10listening, listening to those guys as, um, you know, as I go back, uh, Jeff Manns, uh, is somebody too, that, um,
24:16of course, like after picking the kids up and later on in the day, uh, you know, I hear him a lot.
24:22Um, so I really, I really enjoy his content.
24:25I just, I appreciate people that are just really authentically themselves.
24:28It's really like the biggest thing, man. Um, and Jeff Manns, like, there ain't no doubt about it.
24:33Uh, he, he is that, um, Andrew Cooper, man, uh, my dude, man, uh, man, I got so much love for that guy, man.
24:39It's crazy. Um, he like was listening to him, um, you know, just kind of as things like progressed probably, you know,
24:46over the last six or seven years, uh, my wife actually one year, she bought me a lifetime subscription to a fantasy alarm.
24:52And then, um, you know, like, obviously I'll share a little bit more about Andrew later on, but, uh, Rich Rebar, uh,
24:58had a chance to meet him, uh, at the expo, uh, funny story.
25:02Um, just because like, you know, you mentioned like how do you consume content, right?
25:06And like everybody consumes content so differently. So of course me and Nick, you know, I know you already know how this story is going to end.
25:14It's going to end wild. Cause it's me and Nick.
25:17So, um, you know, so like I, um, guys that like I listen to, um, or consume content from her, you know,
25:23a lot of them are on Sirius XM. So Nick's like, Oh, he's like, there's your retreat.
25:27I was like, Oh, okay. Like, cool. Like not really familiar with rich like that, just because not was at the time,
25:34wasn't in my ecosystem of like how I consume content.
25:36Um, so we're talking and you know, whatever. And so Nick's like, Oh, you know, you should follow us.
25:42So Rich takes my phone and he, you know, types his name in and he's like, you ain't even following me.
25:48It just like goes in, just goes in on me right there.
25:51I love it. Oh man. But like, um, but now like, obviously like, and not even like in a bad way, but
25:57it was just like one of those types of moments where like, Oh my gosh, dude.
26:02So, so embarrassed, man. Uh, but like definitely, uh, you know, definitely have a great relationship with him now.
26:07So definitely, uh, consuming his content. Talked about authenticity, man.
26:10Uh, Lawrence Jackson, man, Lord don't lose. I love that guy's content.
26:13I love, uh, you know, his authenticity. Um, I love everything about a man, uh, for sure.
26:18And, you know, they're always like, Hey man, you know, like find somebody that like, you know, like you really enjoy their
26:24content and like, Hey, like let that be kind of like how you navigate things.
26:28Like that he's a guy that like, man, I got like, I just, I love it.
26:33Every time I see his content, uh, Laquan same thing, man.
26:36Uh, seen him, uh, just making content earlier on, uh, you know, obviously kind of before he got into the space that
26:42he's in now, everything just, you know, dropping, dropping straight fire all the time.
26:46Uh, you know, uh, so definitely got a lot of love for him.
26:50Uh, Chris Allen, um, at Yahoo, um, same thing, man, Ray G, uh, Ray Garvin.
26:54He's somebody that like, uh, I stumbled across probably like two years ago, man.
26:58And, uh, it was a Monday morning and I, you know, was watching some of this stuff.
27:03I was like, man, like this guy is so good, but he is so good, man.
27:07Um, so him, uh, Jim Coventry, I tell, uh, we had Coventry on the show and I tell him all the time.
27:13And I said, uh, I'm just used to listening to you while I'm like mowing my lawn and doing yard work.
27:19Cause it's normally like on Sundays and stuff, but like him, uh, Dan Claskins, um, Jeff Ratcliffe, um, just like, those are
27:25like the guys like now that like, I, I consume a lot of content, um, you know, reading, listening, uh, whatever the case may be.
27:32Um, so those are guys like, uh, guys and sites.
27:35Roto grinders is another big one for me as well.
27:38I spend a lot of time on. Incredible resources, incredible people in that mix for sure.
27:42They're all have unique stories and, you know, and their journeys in this space and in this industry, uh, great, great list of people for sure.
27:50What was it that inspired you to get involved and start doing, doing content?
27:54Um, man, I, I, um, I went on a cruise, um, in 2018, uh, work by actual nine to five job.
28:00Wasn't like going exactly the way that like I wanted it to man.
28:03And, um, you know, I had been really successful in my nine to five job.
28:07I just take it on another role. Uh, it wasn't going good for me.
28:11Um, I was really frustrated, uh, cause like I have like, you know, I'm like a perfectionist and I have like such
28:18a high expectation for myself and it wasn't going good.
28:20And, um, we went on a cruise, man. And I just like, I was unavailable, uh, for my job.
28:26Um, and it really, you know, I was gone for like nine days and I just, you know, I had time to
28:32kind of just like, think like, you know, like, what do you like, what is this man?
28:37Like, what are you doing? Like, what makes you happy?
28:39Like, what do you care about? Like, what do you want to do?
28:43And, um, I was on that cruise, man. And, uh, I got, we were about three days in and I said, man,
28:49you know, I said one thing I just love doing.
28:52I said, I just love talking about ball. I said, I love talking about football.
28:56I love talking about fantasy football. I said, you know, like, you know, people used to call me a football nerd, a
29:02fantasy football geek and stuff like back in the day and stuff.
29:06And, you know, and I was just like, don't care.
29:09I said, you know what? I said, that's what I want to do.
29:12Um, and so like, I got off the cruise and, uh, the first thing I did, ironically enough, the first thing I seen, uh, was like Scott Fishbowl.
29:20And I had tried and tried, or at least I thought I had tried, like most people thought, you know, they had
29:26tried and I was like, okay, like, let me take the time to read through this.
29:31So like, I submitted for it and, um, I actually got accepted.
29:34Uh, well then too, uh, Seth Wilcox, um, he, uh, in between media, he had like, uh, an editing job, uh, that was, you know, open.
29:41So like, dude, I did not know a thing about editing, like zero.
29:45So I hit him up and he's like, yeah, like, you know, come on through.
29:49So I ended up working, uh, working with this guy who, uh, on editing.
29:53Uh, so who, uh, God, I got so much love for him too, man.
29:57Uh, he, he really taught me how to edit, man.
30:00Like he took the time to show me how to edit to like what to do, like steps, this and that.
30:06Um, and so like, I was on with those guys for a couple months, man.
30:10Uh, my mother-in-law had an aneurysm, uh, that burst in her abdominal area.
30:14And, you know, I just, I couldn't commit to, I couldn't commit to it the way I wanted to, you know, so
30:20I just, you know, I stepped away and I said, Hey man, you know, maybe another time.
30:25Um, and then I met Nick and me and Nick started kind of talking or whatever.
30:29So that season goes by. And, um, I made a couple of like short videos here and there, uh, just independent and
30:35me and Nick were kind of talking and, you know, we're like, all right, well, you know, maybe we can do something.
30:42And obviously like, you know, uh, most people as they know, like it's kind of morphed into like this podcast that Nick
30:48and I do, um, now, but like just having the opportunity, man, like to, you know, um, to rub elbows with, you know, a couple of people.
30:55I met Andrew Cooper down at Scott fishbowl in Boston, uh, as well.
30:59Um, and that's like, that's what really like inspired me, uh, was just like those things.
31:03And like, ever since then, man, like I've been, you know, uh, I've been making content, uh, you know, for the last three years.
31:10So did you meet Nick? Was that online just in the, you know, physically, physically at the, at the Scott fishbowl, uh, Scott fishbowl 13.
31:17Yeah. I met him there. Uh, or whatever. And that, that year, like I didn't do any content at all or anything, um, at all.
31:24And then, uh, the following year, um, I seen him again at Scott fishbowl and like, we just kind of talked in,
31:30uh, and then like, we went to the expo and, uh, you know, we're like, okay, like let's at the, after the
31:37expo, we're like, all right, like maybe there's something here.
31:39So like, let's give it a shot. Um, as opposed to just like making independent content, uh, for me.
31:45Um, we just, we linked up and, uh, you know, we've been, we've been doing it ever since.
31:50Amazing. Amazing stuff. What's been the most rewarding part of, of your experience in the fantasy community so far?
31:55Man, I think there's a couple things. Um, I think one is just like, I have two little girls, um, let's call
32:01them little girls, but one's 13 going to be 13.
32:04The other is going to be 10. I think just showing them, man, just to be fearless.
32:09Um, and if you really, really love something, man, just like, go do it.
32:13Like, don't like, don't listen to what other people say.
32:16Like, don't take in like what they say. Like, yeah, like some people like will give you advice for sure.
32:21Um, but like, obviously if they're giving you advice, they're giving you advice through their own experience.
32:26Right. And there's like some truth into all of that, but like, if you really care about something and you really love something, like just go do it.
32:34Like the worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work.
32:37And if it doesn't work, all right, cool. Like you continue to live life or you learn from it.
32:42Uh, right. And so I think like, that's been a big thing is just to show them that like, you know, there's
32:48somebody here that's tangible, that really loves something. And like, if you want to do something, like you'll make time for it,
32:55like you'll put the effort into it. Um, and you can go do it, but just understand that like, nobody's going to do it for you.
33:02Like you have to go do it yourself if you truly want to do it.
33:06Um, that part is like a big deal for me.
33:09Uh, the other part that's like, uh, just really rewarding is like, right.
33:13Like, you know, people ask you anyway, like, you know, what I mean?
33:16Like they subconsciously ask you the questions about like their fantasy roster anyway, you know, yo, like, you know, some of my
33:22friends, you know, they, my childhood friends call me Jono, uh, Jono, man.
33:26Like, what do you think about this? Like, you know, should I do this or should I do that?
33:31Or like, Hey, like, what would you do? Uh, but just being able to help people out, man.
33:36Um, you know, with their fantasy leagues, man, because, you know, there's some people that like, are like, you know, in it like deep.
33:43Right. And then there's some people that are just in it socially just, you know, the one league is like enough for the two leagues.
33:50There's one guy, uh, at school, man. I see him all the time.
33:54And, uh, you know, he gives me the rundown of his roster all the time.
33:58And, uh, I'm like, dude, I'm like, how do they keep letting you do this?
34:02He's like, this is my only league is this.
34:05And one of my other buddies, he plays in it.
34:08I messaged him the other day. I said, man, we got to quit letting this guy take y'all down through there, man.
34:14Cause he is working y'all every year. And like, man, my cousins, you know, my cousins, they hit me up to, you know, like, yo, John, Oh man.
34:22Like, you know, like, tell me about my roster.
34:24Like, what do you think? That's the best part, man.
34:27It's just being able to help people, man. Um, like in that space, but really, like I said, it's more or less,
34:33man, for me, um, just being able to show my kids that like, you know what I mean?
34:38Like it's, it's a possibility, um, to do whatever it is you want to do.
34:42That's amazing. Yeah. Fellow girl dad here. So I appreciate it.
34:45I love, I love what you're saying. I love the motivation behind all that, uh, and the message behind that.
34:51Cause that's pretty powerful. Uh, so what are your, your long-term goals in this fantasy space?
34:56Uh, man, like I want to, um, I officially, um, I officially got LLC, uh, this year, um, the fantasy football shows officially a licensed company.
35:03Um, man, like I want to, I want to build it, man.
35:06Like I want to build it. Um, you know, I want to, you know, put together a nice team, man.
35:12Um, would love to be able to get people like whether it's content creators, whether it's website builders, uh, you know, producers
35:18or whatever, uh, you know, cause just, you know, it's Nick and I, um, you know, and both of us kind of
35:24dabbling in, you know, in every space, uh, you know, I'm comfortable with it, but as you were very well aware, it is, it is a heavy lift.
35:32It is a heavy lift. Um, but like, you know, anybody that like, it's kind of, I look at it as like
35:38anybody that's in the same space that I was in like three years ago.
35:42It's just like, Hey man, like, you know, I want to do something and they just don't know where to channel it.
35:48Yo man, hit me up, man. Hit me up.
35:51Cause I'm pretty sure, man, we can figure out something to do, um, you know, and find a place like to be
35:57able to, you know, to have you help out, uh, whatever respect.
36:00And, um, you know, cause that's how it is, man.
36:03It's like, yeah, pretty sure, you know, like somebody's got to take a chance on you.
36:08Somebody's got to, you know, believe in you and bring you on and give you some game.
36:12Um, and I, you know, I love nothing more than being able to help get back to people, uh, just in general.
36:19So, you know, if you're watching this or you hear it or whatever the case may be, and you're like, ah, like,
36:25you know, I want to, you know, I want to get involved in fantasy football content creating, or I like, I love it.
36:31Yo man, hit me up, man. And, uh, you know, my goal is, you know, hopefully by the time next year turns
36:37around, uh, to be able to, you know, to have a nice little team together, to be able to do some things
36:44and really kind of start, uh, trying to make this thing, make a run for it.
36:48Um, it's really, um, it's really what I'm thinking.
36:51I love it. What's your advice for people that are out there that are looking to get more involved in the space?
36:57Maybe they're, you know, they're, maybe they're timid about, you know, just getting involved, creating some content, or maybe they've been doing
37:03it a while, but you know, they, they want to, you know, they want to break.
37:07Do you have any advice for people? Um, yeah, I think like, for me, like the biggest thing, like, um, I learned
37:14was like, and it's just a, like a fear thing.
37:16And like, I'm a like uberly confident person, uh, super confident, but I think like just knowing that like, you're putting yourself
37:23out there on a camera or like with all of your words and your thoughts and like, Oh my God, like, what if this is stupid?
37:30Like what, dude, I, like, I always go back and watch my, the very, the very first short I ever made was
37:36about Saquon Barkley when he went to the Philadelphia Eagles and the content was right.
37:40But like, dude, it just, it looks so brutal.
37:43Like when you see it now. Right. And then I think about like how far, like I've come now as far as
37:49like, um, just creating content, um, editing things, um, you know, like those types of things.
37:54Um, it's just understanding, man, like, dude, you are going to get stuff wrong.
37:57And like, man, there are, listen, there are going to be haters at every single turn.
38:02Like it does not matter. Right. Cause at the end of the day, man, fantasy football, you can have all the data in the world.
38:09You can have everything at your fingertips. Somebody goes out there and turns an ankle don't matter.
38:14It does not matter. Like it does not matter.
38:16You know, they say chance favors the prepared mind.
38:19Uh, you know, like, all right, cool. Like you can be prepared, but things still happening.
38:23Right. Like you might have a good take that actually ends up being a bad take, but it has nothing to do about your process.
38:30Right. Um, just understand that and know, like, that's fine.
38:33And like, you know, if, if people are taking the time out to, uh, you know, to, to hate on the content
38:39that you're making, Hey, at least you've made an interaction.
38:42Right. Like you've made an interaction, uh, is the way that I look at it.
38:46Um, so like, there's that piece of it. And if you've been doing it for a while and I've, I've heard a
38:52lot of people say that you've been doing it for a while and like, you know, you, you know, you getting burnt or whatever.
38:59It's all right, man. You know, to take some time away, like, cause you know, the game is still going to be here.
39:06Those relationships, uh, but people are still going to be here, um, as well.
39:10Like, um, you know, there's, there's people that like, I know that are in that same space that, you know, I might
39:16just be sitting here on a random, you know, Tuesday and I might, you know, have a thought about this person and
39:22I might just like reach out to them and just check in, Hey man, you know, just checking in on you just to see how things are going.
39:30Uh, because it's a great man. It's a great community.
39:33Um, and like, man, I honestly, man. And you know, um, I'm a pretty straightforward guy with things, man.
39:38I've, I've yet to have like a really negative experience, man.
39:41Um, uh, being a part of this community, uh, just in general with, with people.
39:45Um, so like, it's all right, man. Like it's cool, you know, uh, understand to like family stuff too, man.
39:51Um, you know, like don't miss out on that stuff either, man.
39:54Like, you know, we're talking about family, you know, if you got to shuffle some stuff around, man, to get to the
40:00family events or whatever with your kids, man, like that's cool too, man.
40:04Like you're, you know, your audience will still be there waiting.
40:07There's still a place for it. Um, those are the things, man, I would say like, you know, reach out.
40:13Reach out to people, man. You know, whether they're big, whether they're small, like whatever, man, uh, goes a long way.
40:19I love it. It's great, great advice for sure.
40:21And, and, uh, I think it's, it's definitely true.
40:24This community is very supportive, incredible people in there.
40:26So don't hesitate to, to reach out to people and connect because, you know, again, there's so much support out there.
40:32Talk about your fantasy football expo experience. It's like when that first, when that idea first came up, obviously you said that
40:38you went to a, you know, some SFB events, which was kind of a good catalyst for that.
40:43But what, what was the discussion around like, Hey, let's go to Canton and, and just meet people.
40:48Like, what were you thinking at that time? And then what was the reality behind the event when you experienced it?
40:54I just, I had heard people talk about it, right?
40:57Like when I first kind of like got into like the fantasy circle a little bit, I had heard people talk about
41:03the expo and I'm a big serious XM listener.
41:06So like, I'm, you know, very familiar with like a lot of the things, like a lot of the events that go
41:12on, you know, FSGA, uh, you know, the ultimate flex league, you know, all those type of things.
41:17And like, I I'm hearing them. I'm like, man, like this sounds so dope.
41:21Like this sounds so dope. And, um, I like, I said, you know, man, I said, I, I think I'm going to go.
41:27I said, I think I'm going to go. And I'd been, of course I had been kind of on the fence about
41:34going and Nick hits me up and he's like, so he was like, are you going to go or what?
41:39I was like, yeah, I was like, I'm going to go.
41:42Um, and so like we go and man, like I, I always tell people this and you kind of hit on it earlier.
41:49It's like, you know, like you go for a couple of years and you know, you're kind of like, all right, like
41:55kind of, you know, like same deal. You go the first year, like I go there the first year and, um, you know, and I'll just everything, man.
42:03Like I go and first thing I see, man, I see, you know, I see Scott fish.
42:08I'm like, Oh my God, like it's Scott fish.
42:10And like, you know, and he's like super cool, super approachable, you know, super easy to talk to.
42:15Like, and I had seen him at the Boston event.
42:18And so, you know, he like recognizes me, like doesn't know me, but recognizes me.
42:22And, you know, we get to talking and then like, I run into him like seven different times there, um, at the event.
42:29And we like me and my daughters, uh, we created a video to get into the second Scott fishbowl.
42:34Uh, and so like, they know how big of a deal, like it was for me.
42:38And so we were there and, uh, I FaceTime, one of my daughters and he was there and he like, you know,
42:45said hi to a woman or whatever. And they just thought it was like the dopest thing ever.
42:50Um, and then, you know, like hanging out, man, what, like so many great memories, man.
42:54Uh, you know, downtown Canton, Ohio playing, uh, wiffle ball.
42:57I wasn't playing. I was just watching, but watching, you know, coop and those guys, man, play wiffle ball at two o'clock in the morning.
43:04Uh, you know, downtown Canton, man. Um, and then just, you know, able to like meet so many people, man.
43:10Like I met, uh, you know, Amber from the fantasy advice network, Joe Frick, man.
43:14Like we met him there that year. Like that was so, uh, that was so, so cool, man.
43:19Just to like, hang out with him. Uh, cash Brandon, uh, we're a couple of guys that, um, I met Jamison Hutchinson,
43:25uh, fizzle dollars, Jason Brown, tip, uh, Frank Amarante, uh, Marcus Grant.
43:28Uh, like you, you meet all of these people, right.
43:31And like the, everybody's just in the same space, man.
43:34And like, you know, Dustin, Dustin luck, uh, yeah.
43:36Yeah. Yeah. And like, I, uh, I tell people this, that like they were doing the flag football deal and I was
43:43like, man, listen, I was like, I'm in my forties.
43:45I was like, peak has passed, man. I like it.
43:48This ain't for me right here. Uh, and I was just kind of sitting there and, uh, Dustin, I mean, we talked
43:54for like two hours and I tell anybody, man, it was one of the best conversations I had, um, at the expo, uh, was, was with him, man.
44:02And we built like a really, you know, really great relationship.
44:05Uh, you know, like I said, that's how, that's how I met Rich, uh, was there.
44:10Uh, well, um, it's just like, it's so overwhelming because there's so many people that do so many things and that like
44:16are really, really, you know, important to the industry along with people who are doing things like currently, um, as upstarts or just like there is football.
44:24Jason Brown is a guy, man, that like, uh, you know, he's super cool dude, man.
44:28And he like plays in like all the leagues, like the Dan Claskins leagues and like the fantasy alarm leagues and stuff like that.
44:35Uh, um, yeah, he's a big Cowboys fan. We'll talk about that Joy Porter thing again, but, um, you know, you just meet all these guys, man.
44:42And like, you know, you find that like, you know, there's these commonalities.
44:46It's not always like about football. Sometimes you just, you're talking about your kids.
44:50Sometimes, sometimes you're talking about, you know, you know, being, you know, being a husband.
44:54Sometimes you're talking about, you know, wrestling. Sometimes like you're, you're just talking about like a lot of different things as well, man.
45:01Um, you know, and obviously man, like the females as well.
45:04Um, you know, there are a lot, a lot of great like females, like, and like I said, Amber from fantasy advice
45:10network, man, uh, just an absolutely awesome human being just in general, man.
45:14Um, and just talking about like life. Um, so like, man, I encourage like any and everybody, man, if you're just even
45:20remotely on the fence about going to the expo, just go, just go one time.
45:24And you'll be like, okay, like this is, it was the most fun I'd had in quite some time, man, as an adult for sure.
45:31Yeah. It's a very special event. And, and you mentioned obviously Scott fishbowl live events too.
45:35Those are just incredible. Uh, you know, they're in nearly every city across America these days.
45:40I mean, wherever you are, there's an SFB that's close by.
45:43So definitely hit those events out because they are, they are pretty incredible to kind of just connect with people on every
45:49level, you know, it's special for sure. Uh, and you get to know, you get to know people a lot better.
45:55And so speaking of getting to know people, we're going to, we're going to dive into some rapid fire questions, a couple
46:01of football, but a little more just, you know, personal stuff about you.
46:05Let's dive in. So, uh, who's your all time favorite fantasy football player?
46:09Oh man. All time. Uh, I want to go to Sean Jackson.
46:12We'll be a couple of fantasy championships. Love it.
46:15Love this John Jackson. Isn't there like a special coming out?
46:18Like, yes. Go deep. Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty sweet.
46:20Uh, now can you name four fantasy football industry legends that you'd put on the, on, on Mount Rushmore?
46:25Oh man. Uh, I'm going to say, uh, Jim Coventry for sure.
46:29Uh, I'm going to put, uh, Coop on there.
46:31I got to put Matthew Barry on there and then I will go, uh, like I said, I'll go Lawrence Jackson, man.
46:38Just because like, he's like, just my favorite, my favorite content creator, man.
46:41And talk about somebody that had a, had a cool experience going to the expo and just making things happen.
46:47Yeah. Lawrence Jackson, huge fan of his for sure.
46:49Uh, how about the Superbowl? Who's, uh, who's going in 2026 and who plays, who wins?
46:54Uh, I said it from the very beginning of the season.
46:57Uh, Jags versus bears. Okay. Jags wins. I've already said Trevor Lawrence is my pick for MVP for the season.
47:03So Jags and bears. I love it. I love it.
47:05I love it. Yeah. Yeah. The narrative, the narrative, just, just, just to add some more context to it for me, like
47:11the narrative is, it's like, Hey, um, you know, you have, um, obviously Ben Johnson and, uh, Liam Cohen, you have two guys, obviously former offensive coordinators.
47:19Um, you know, you have them, you know, in their second years, like in this space, you have two number one overall
47:25quarterbacks who, you know, maybe for Trevor Lawrence, some people might be like, ah, like hasn't necessarily like lived up to it.
47:31I think like, this is the year for him.
47:34And I think like the other narrative is like for Caleb Williams, which like, I love Trevor Lawrence, but Caleb Williams is
47:40literally like my favorite player in the NFL right now.
47:43Like, I don't care. Like he can cry 50 times after he pops a hamstring.
47:47I don't care. He like, for me, like, I think it's, it's a matter of like narratives.
47:52It's like, we've already seen Jayden Daniels be offensive rookie of the year.
47:56Yeah. Um, you know, out of that draft class, uh, obviously we just seen Drake may play in the Superbowl, um, last season.
48:02Um, he's the only one that does not have like a complete, like full three 60 narrative that like we can look at and validate.
48:09So I think sometimes the universe just has a way of balancing itself out.
48:13I think that's going to happen this year for him.
48:16I think obviously like we just seen what happened on Monday night, uh, with them and the Eagles Ben Johnson, man, like that guy stays in his bag.
48:24So like, Hey, give me a healthy Caleb Williams.
48:26I think they have it man. Uh, for sure.
48:29So yeah, Jags, Jags and bears Jags win it all man.
48:32Okay. I love it. I love it. That's a fun one for sure.
48:35How about an all time favorite TV show for you?
48:38All time favorite TV show. I'm actually rocking a shirt today, man.
48:42Uh, it's the wire. Uh, it's not even close for me, man.
48:45That is that by far for me is the greatest TV show, uh, that was ever made.
48:50Uh, I'm, uh, sometimes I think we all can be complex human beings.
48:53Uh, but I love the fact that there's so many different layers on this show.
48:58Um, and that like, you know, you can watch it five or six different times and have five or six different takeaways.
49:04You know, one thing goes a little bit different here, like in this space and it completely changes the outcome of like every single domino that falls.
49:11I think it gives you like a realistic look, um, you know, of, I shouldn't say realistic look, but it gives you
49:18a look as far as like, you know, at the time, like, um, you know, um, inner city struggles gives you a
49:24look at like, uh, you know, um, you know, police, police stuff, juking stats, uh, you know, obviously political things as well.
49:30Like the impact on that, as far as like choosing like where to put money versus where not to put money sometimes
49:36how things can be, you know, overlooked, um, as far as, uh, impact on things, depending on what it is.
49:42Uh, it's just a great show for me. Uh, so many young stars, man, at the time, Michael B.
49:47Jordan, Michael Williams, uh, obviously rest in peace, but just so many great, so many great actors, so many, so many layers, so many stories.
49:54Uh, it's the greatest TV show of all time for me.
49:57I love, I love the passion. I love the breakdown on that one for sure.
50:01Uh, how about all time favorite movie for you?
50:04The Departed. Yeah. Uh, The Departed just in the same fashion.
50:07Uh, so many layers in that story, so many twists, so many turns, uh, obviously now like residing in the Northeast close
50:13to Boston, living in Maine, uh, anything that's like centralized to like where I'm at.
50:17Um, I take just a, just a natural liking to.
50:20Uh, so to be able to see like a lot of like the things that are there, uh, you know, landmarks in Boston and things like that.
50:28And then you just look at the cast of characters in that, in that movie.
50:32Like, I don't know if or when you will ever see a star studded cast like that.
50:37Yeah. Uh, just it like suspense twists turns. Uh, yeah, that's, that's, that's my favorite movie right there.
50:42How about a sports movie? Uh, favorite sports movie.
50:44Um, I'd probably say. I'll either go varsity blues or Friday night lights.
50:48I think varsity blues, um, as a high schooler, just because it was right around that time.
50:53Uh, we all kind of like, we're like, oh, we're this, but like, I think Friday night lights, just the movie itself.
50:59Uh, you know, and it gets me every time, man.
51:02I just almost, I can almost never watch the scene without crying, man.
51:05Almost. It's like, you know, after, you know, Boobie blows his knee up and, you know, he gets in the car and
51:11it's like, you know, all I can do is play ball.
51:15What am I going to do? And it's just like, oh man, dude, it just like, it gets me, uh, gets me every time.
51:21Oh, I love it. I love it. How about, uh, how about all type favorite video game for you?
51:27Um, I don't play as much as I used to, um, just because the kids and like kind of dabbling into this
51:33space and, you know, I want to be fair to my wife and kids, you know?
51:37Um, but I would say, uh, when I did play Madden, uh, no question Madden was absolutely my favorite game franchise mode, uh, online, uh, man.
51:45I used to, I loved, uh, growing up, man, back home playing like with my buddies and stuff before like online was a big deal.
51:52I would just line them up and beat the brakes off of all of them, man.
51:56I would stay on the sticks for eight, nine, eight, nine, uh, games deep, man.
52:00So yeah. Give me Madden, man. For sure. Love it.
52:03Love it. Uh, how about the best meal ever?
52:06It could be something that you remember having once upon a time or just the ultimate construct of a meal, like a last meal.
52:12Um, me and my aunt, uh, man, she, uh, she passed away during COVID, uh, from COVID.
52:17Um, but when I would go back home, man, um, she would always like make, like something like this right here, man.
52:23She would make, uh, like turnip greens, uh, chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, um, sweet potato pie, red velvet cake, uh,
52:30you know, something like that right there, man. Just a nice, like, you know, Southern meal, man.
52:34Uh, that is like, that's like every time I go home, man, like when I go home, like that's, that's the stuff that hits for me.
52:42Is that right there, man? That's the Southern cooking right there.
52:45I love it. Uh, how about, how about a beverage?
52:47What's the, what's the best beverage for you? What's the, what's the goat beverage?
52:51Uh, two, um, any flavored Ciroc vodka. I'm all in on man.
52:55Uh, like alcoholic drinks. Like, yeah. In 1942, if we're just talking non-alcoholic beverages, uh, I love me a good blackberry ginger ale, man.
53:01You know? Okay. Yeah. Blackberry, you know, I've never had a blackberry ginger ale.
53:05Oh man, dude. Fire. Fire. Where do they sell those?
53:08So I've never seen one in the Pacific Northwest.
53:11Yeah. Um, I mean, we got, uh, Hannaford here, a grocery store.
53:14Okay. Um, but yeah, like that's where I get them from.
53:17It's like, I get them from, uh, from Hannaford.
53:20So. I'll keep my eyes out for that. Cause that sounds, I love ginger ale, you know.
53:25Blackberry, black raspberry ginger ale, man. So good, man.
53:27So good. All right. All right. How about music?
53:30Uh, who's your favorite artist or band or musician?
53:32Of all time. Goat is little Wayne, man. Goat is little Wayne.
53:35Uh, you know, I, uh, actually went to go see him this summer.
53:39Um, he, he was late for the show. Uh, so he didn't make the first show.
53:44So he had to come back for the second show.
53:46This was my second time seeing him. But, uh, to me, man, I don't think, uh, I don't think there will ever be an artist.
53:53Um, at least in my opinion, man, is big and is transcending as, as little Wayne, uh, is and was, uh, you
54:00just think about like, uh, the impact like he had on a, on hip hop culture.
54:04Um, just overall, you know, crossing over to do some rock stuff as well.
54:08Uh, you know, bringing, bringing Drake to the party, bringing Nicki Minaj to the party, uh, as well, obviously the stuff like
54:14from him, like with cash money when he was 16, uh, he's been doing it, you know, geez, man, uh, for almost 30 years, man.
54:21So that's my goat right there. Dwayne Carter. There we go.
54:24There we go. Uh, how'd you end up in Maine?
54:27Um, I have, um, I have four brothers and two sisters, um, and my dad was previously married.
54:32Um, so I had two brothers and a sister, um, that were here, um, as I mentioned, you know, everything that happened earlier on in my life.
54:40Uh, so when I got to high school or actually when I got out of high school, um, you know, man, I
54:46was just, you know, I didn't really have any direction, man.
54:49Um, you know, in my life and I was, you know, just probably not making the best decisions.
54:54Um, at that point in time, one of my brothers called me randomly one day and we, we talked for probably about four to six months.
55:01And, you know, he told me, he said, Hey man, he said, uh, you know, if you want to, man, he said,
55:08you know, you can come up here. He said, you know, if you just want to come up here and stay for like a week, like, that's cool.
55:15He's like, if you want to come up here and, you know, stay past that, like, that's cool.
55:20And, uh, you know, I, I, I tell everybody, man, like, this was like a real turning point for me because I
55:27knew like, you know, I probably could have stayed like in Tennessee and probably, you know, maybe I would have figured it out.
55:33Maybe I wouldn't have. Right. But I just knew that like, Hey, like if I, if I moved away and gave myself
55:39like the best opportunity that like I possibly could, um, that like, you know, and it didn't work, I can always come back home.
55:46But if I stayed here and didn't do that, then like, I would never know how it went.
55:51And, um, I, I was up here for probably three days, man, and completely different world in Tennessee.
55:56Like, don't get it twisted. But, uh, but I said, you know what, man, I said, I, I think, I think I
56:02can deal with this and I think I can make this a thing.
56:06Um, and you know, their, you know, their family was like, you know, willing to bring me in, man, you know, uh,
56:12give me a place to stay for, you know, a couple months, man, found a job, you know, went to school, got a degree, all that stuff, man.
56:20And, um, and obviously, man, you know, I've been able to, uh, you know, you know, been able to, you know, get
56:26married, have two kids, man, you know, have a really good job, man, be able to take care of myself.
56:32So, um, you know, just one of the best decisions I ever made in my life, man, for sure.
56:37I love it. I mean, that sounds, that's, that's incredible.
56:40Uh, and speaking of like, you know, locations and everything like that, how about, how about a vacation or, or city or a place you visited?
56:47Is there a favorite all time memory on that front?
56:50Uh, well, I wasn't at the expo this year, uh, because, um, me and my family, we went to Hawaii.
56:56Nice. We went to Hawaii. So, um, I actually, um, in my nine to five job, I actually won like a really
57:02prestige award and they, they take you to Hawaii.
57:04Um, so they flew me and my wife to Hawaii and we bought the kids with us because we're like, you know,
57:10when are we ever going to have a chance to go to Hawaii like this again or whatever.
57:16So we stayed in Hawaii for a week, uh, you know, and I, you know, dude, like I was like, it was so happy.
57:22Um, you know, obviously I think, you know, it probably comes through like loud and clear, man, like how much, like I love my family and my kids.
57:30Um, and, um, you know, just to be able to, to give them things and, uh, show them things that made, you
57:36know, like I never could have even dreamed or imagined of, you know, being their age, you know, like they're, you know,
57:4213 and 10 and, you know, we've, you know, we've already, you know, we've done the Bahamas, we've done Maui, we've done,
57:49uh, you know, Austin, Texas, we've done San Antonio, we've done Nashville, we've done New York, uh, we've done Florida.
57:54Uh, so, you know, we've, uh, we, we've kind of, we've, we've moved around quite a bit, man, but Hawaii was, was
58:00definitely, uh, the cream of the crop for sure, man, for vacations.
58:04Love it. Now how about a bucket list travel destination for you?
58:07Uh, you know, dude, the one place, every time I try to get to this place, I can never get there for one reason or another, dude.
58:15And it's like, I don't know if it's, I don't know if it's a sign or what, man, but, um, I won
58:21a trip at work to go to Vegas before the pandemic couldn't go.
58:25Um, this year, same thing. Like I won the trip to Vegas, but it was like, okay, either Vegas or Hawaii.
58:30And I was like, well, okay, well, Hawaii for sure.
58:33But I want to get to Vegas, man. I want to get to Vegas.
58:37Like I haven't been able to get to Vegas.
58:40Um, and like, I want to get there, but like, that's like, that's local.
58:44Um, but I know like my daughters, man, like they want to go to like, they want to go to like Paris and stuff or whatever.
58:51So I, I don't really care, man. Uh, I'm pretty chill.
58:54I'll go wherever, man. I'm, I'm pretty chill like that.
58:57I love it. Well, Vegas, I mean, yeah, you got it.
59:00How about draft nation 2027? You know, you heard about that event.
59:03You probably saw that, right? Yes, sir. Why not?
59:06Why not? Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. I love it.
59:09Well, all these answers were great. This, this whole conversation has been a ton of fun.
59:13Um, and, and, and just, it's been good. It's been good.
59:16Hopefully people are appreciated. And, um, when it comes to, you know, what you're most grateful for, I'll ask, uh, but I
59:23have an idea, but what are you most grateful for at this time?
59:26Oh, man. I'm just, uh, man. I'm just grateful for, you know, for my wife and my kids, man.
59:32Um, it's really, you know, the, the best thing, man.
59:34And, and being able to see, you know, like, uh, they're both playing soccer.
59:38Both of my girls are, my oldest one's banged up right now.
59:42She hasn't played a lot, but you know, they're both doing well, man.
59:45Killing it on that. Um, you know, um, I'm happy to be in this space, man.
59:50Like making content, man. Uh, for everybody. Um, you know, I'm just blessed to be able to, to truly say, man, like
59:56to be in a position to honestly, like do what I love to do.
60:00Um, just in general, man, like, you know, playing fantasy football, playing DFS, making content, watching my kids, you know, grow up
60:06and, uh, you know, giving them, you know, the best life possible.
60:10Same thing like with my wife, you know, um, you know, making connections and making friends, man, um, in the fantasy space,
60:16uh, my health, man, just, just, you know, trying really, really, really trying to make sure, man, you know, um, I don't take any day for granted, man.
60:24And I'm just super appreciative for every day, uh, you know, that I'm able to get out of the bed, man.
60:29Well, I love all that gratitude. I appreciate you coming on this show.
60:33It's been, it's been a ton of fun. Uh, can you tell listeners and viewers where to find you?
60:38Yeah. Like I said, man, uh, Duff fantasy football show, uh, LLC on YouTube.
60:42You can find, uh, find me there. You can find just me, uh, J O N Y M A I N E
60:49like the state of Maine three, seven, one eight, five, um, on X, you can find me there.
60:54Same thing on Tik TOK. Uh, the fantasy football show as well on Instagram, same thing on Facebook, the fantasy football show on Spotify, um, as well.
61:01So you can find, uh, find me in any of those spaces.
61:05Uh, like I said, man, me and Nick, you know, we're always doing our thing kind of, you know, together here and
61:11there, uh, a little mismatch, uh, just, but at the end of the day, like you can always find us together on Sundays and on Mondays.
61:18Um, yeah, man, you know, definitely reach out, man.
61:21Uh, you know, if you want to be a part of it, like, let me know, man, if you just got feedback
61:27on the content, let me know if there's something you want to see, you know, whatever.
61:31Um, let me know for sure. Um, and we'll make it happen.
61:35Um, you know, and every Sunday at 10 AM is where we're at Mondays at seven 15 to eight 15, right before kickoff.
61:41That's where you can find us at all the time, man.
