0:28And Mello, we're going to hit every position, but let's start with our top waiver spot of the week, wide receiver.
0:34And then we're going to work our way all the way down to our favorite streaming defenses, including the number 5 defense
0:41in fantasy football on the year with an extremely juicy matchup and they're available in 87% of leagues.
0:46But give me your favorite wide receiver pickup this week.
0:48Let's do it. I think there's two main guys.
0:51I know you're going to talk about one that I really like a lot, but I really like Demario Douglas too.
0:57Demario Douglas, I think is somebody worth bidding on this week.
1:00He's available in 93% of leagues and he has back to back top 10 finishes over the last two weeks.
1:06That's insane. He's been really productive. The touchdowns have been a part of that, but his upside should remain just as high
1:12the next few weeks at least, given that Romeo Dobbs is now on IR.
1:16Mac Hollins is still on IR. AJ Brown is still working back to his old self.
1:20We saw last week they tried to get him involved.
1:23It didn't work out very well. Now the Patriots only have four active receivers right now.
1:28Two of them are second year guys who haven't really done all that much throughout their career.
1:32I don't think Demario Douglas is going to be a league winner for you down the stretch, but with the buys and
1:39injuries the Patriots are going through right now, he is legitimately startable for the next couple weeks.
1:43So if you need somebody to flex in, Demario Douglas is your guy.
1:47Yeah, you put it perfectly. I think I have obviously the question marks around once this receiving court gets healthy, like how
1:53much work is pop Douglas actually going to get, but they're going to have to use him for the next few weeks.
2:00And we just talked about in our trades episode, that juicy schedule we've got heading into the buy for the Patriots right now.
2:06He's going to take advantage of that just as much as AJ Brown.
2:10So I think this is a great one. What's your suggestion on a fab percentage here?
2:14I'm willing to spend about 10%. I'd go over that.
2:17If you're really beat up, your team's got injuries, you got a lot of buys and, and you need somebody.
2:23I juice it up a little higher than that, but otherwise I'm thinking about 10%.
2:27Yeah. I think that's a great caveat. Like we're going to give our fab suggestions here, but if you are in desperate
2:33need of help out of position, you're going to have to go over this.
2:37Cause you got to make sure you secure these guys.
2:40We always talk about how advantageous it is to use your fab towards the beginning of the year, because this is usually
2:46when you get the guys that actually pay off for what you're giving up.
2:50Um, you know, you can get those guys down the stretch, but you're going to get the more valuable pieces earlier on
2:56the season, but let's move on to our next guy.
2:59No, this is the guy that I think could be a league winner that you can pick up at the wide receiver position.
3:05Let's talk Omar Cooper Jr. And I think when you look at the whole picture of this guy, it's pretty incredible.
3:11And I'm really excited. Week one, obviously cut short.
3:14He gets an ankle injury, which leads to a four week IR stint.
3:18But in that first week and the play he got injured on was a 30 yard.
3:22Catching run that he made in the first quarter that he ends up hurting his ankle on.
3:27He does that in just one quarter. And now we finally get a full game with him lights up the new England Patriots past events.
3:34That's been very impressive for six catches off of seven targets, 103 yards with 48 of them coming off of that incredible touchdown.
3:40We were both extremely eye on Cooper in the draft process.
3:44We soured a little bit when not only did he end up with the jets, he ended up there as the second
3:50pass catcher drafted in that rookie class. The good news is the jets offense is better than we expected.
3:55And we can admit that. And Omar Cooper jr.
3:58Is already commanding targets at a really high clip.
4:00Melo. We always say draft rookies don't trade them, but what if you could just go and pick one up off of
4:06waivers that has genuine season long upside. And that's why I love him too.
4:10He is somebody, if you have the roster spot, which odds are, you probably do for a guy with this kind of guy like this.
4:17He's worth it. It's like you said too. It's not even like he hadn't come along yet.
4:22And now he he's finally playing well. I mean, he hasn't played most of this season.
4:27He's really established himself as this big play threat, this wide receiver too.
4:30And the jets offense that has been better than we thought.
4:33So he's somebody down the stretch. If he can take another step forward, even really could be a league winner.
4:39Yeah. And I've got my fat percentage for him.
4:42This might seem aggressive. I have him at about 20% that I think I would pay on Omar Cooper jr.
4:47I think that's totally fair, especially at this point.
4:50If it's week one, I'm probably, you know, it's a little different, but at this point, 20% of what you have remaining, I think is totally fair.
4:57100%. On to running back. Give me one of your favorite waiver wire pickups at running back right now.
5:03Yeah. We've talked about a couple of guys that have been looking good.
5:06Let's talk about somebody who hasn't really done much yet.
5:09And that's Emmett Johnson, who to me is somebody who should be rostered in way more leagues than he is.
5:15He's available at 70% of leagues. I think he should be rostered in that many.
5:19He is so available in redraft leagues. And I know he's just a handcuff, but he is the most valuable handcuff in all of fantasy.
5:26In my opinion, Ken Walker has dealt with injury issues in the past, pretty much every year of his career.
5:32And he's never taken on a load this big before pause, but he, whoa, he has never had this much work before.
5:38So it's not out of the question that he goes down at some point.
5:42And if he does, Johnson has league winning upside as the new potential workhorse in this chief's offense that has been so
5:48exciting again, really for the first time in a few years.
5:51And for what it's worth, he's looked the part in a limited sample size.
5:55I know he's not on the field that much.
5:58He's not touching the ball that much. He's looked explosive though.
6:01The chief's organization has been talking very highly of them themselves.
6:04So he's useless if Ken Walker is active. But like I said, the second he goes down, you have a league winning
6:10RB2, maybe even RB1 for rest of season. I appreciate you bringing up a Johnson with such a big load.
6:16I'm with you. I like we, so we were in the car driving up to, you know, meet our guys at smash except this weekend.
6:23And we kind of just broke into this conversation about Emmett Johnson.
6:26And it was funny because I think neither one of us realized how aligned we were on the fact that like, I
6:32think he probably is the most valuable handcuff just because of the fact that look outside of the Ken Walker health stuff.
6:39Like you can say whatever you want that you think he's injury prone, that he's not going to be able to hold up.
6:45But if he ever went down in Andy Reid rushing attack, being the main guy in that is extremely valuable.
6:51And it's even more valuable when you're as talented as Emmett Johnson.
6:54I think anybody who followed the draft process and like knows about this guy going into the year knows how great of a running back he is.
7:02And then if you've watched him at all, he passes the eye test.
7:05He passes the efficiency metrics. And so, yeah, I think he's one of those guys that even if Ken Walker doesn't go
7:12down, I could see a world that they start to work him in more in the back half of the year just to maintain Kenneth Walker's health.
7:19Yeah, and at that point, if he becomes a flex with benefits, even better.
7:23Like, hey, that's there are so many handcuffs being rostered right now that I would rather have Emmett Johnson than just straight up.
7:30So I'm willing to put 15% of my fab on him, maybe even a little bit higher.
7:34Obviously, like I said, he's not super useful unless Ken goes down.
7:38So it's a total gamble, which is why I'm not mortgaging the farm for him.
7:42But 15% feels right. Yeah, I agree. Just a random head-to-head here.
7:45Who would you rather have right now, Emmett Johnson or Mike Washington Jr.?
7:49Emmett Johnson. I would buy a mile, and I don't think most people would agree with that.
7:54Agreed. I think part of that is Gentie's been a little banged up this year, and Ken Walker hasn't.
7:59But, I mean, Gentie's getting healthier. Like, that's even to me now.
8:03So I'd rather take the bet on this Chiefs offense than this Raiders offense going forward.
8:07Absolutely. Let me move on to my guy, though.
8:10Let's talk about Jonah Coleman. Where, Melo, it's easy to remember when Jonah Coleman was the talk of the Week 3 waiver
8:16wire before immediately getting put on IR. Pepperidge Farm remembers those days.
8:19But it was for a good reason that we were all so excited.
8:23He flashed in that Week 2 game when R.J.
8:25Harvey and J.K. Dobbins both went down 10 for 39 with a touchdown, plus 3 for 19 in the air.
8:31And now since then, it was so funny that those guys go down and they both become healthy and he ends up on IR.
8:38But now we've seen J.K. Dobbins just dominate the backfield since Coleman's been out.
8:42And that sounds like it would be bad for Jonah Coleman if it weren't for the fact that Dobbins has been horrifically inefficient on the ground.
8:49We're talking 3.3 a carry. If you watch him, it looks like he's just running through quicksand.
8:54And my biggest question is, how many carries would it take to move the ball further than a typical Bo Nix pass?
9:00The two of them, they're like putting up brand new record-breaking metrics for how short of yardage they can get.
9:06But I'm buying in once he's back, even if it's not immediate, that he's going to carve out a very valuable role
9:12in an offense that I've been on record as saying will start to heat up after the bye once their schedule lightens up a bit from this gauntlet.
9:20Rookies. I mean, we've talked about a couple rookies now.
9:23They really do win down the stretch. J.K. Dobbins never wins down the stretch because even when he's good the first half
9:29of the year, he gets hurt anyways. And this year, like you said, his yards per carry is like half of his
9:35quarterback's A dot, which speaks volumes based on how Bo Nix has been playing this year.
9:39So if there is a running back I want in this offense for, let's say, the last seven or eight weeks of
9:46the season, it might be Jonah Coleman. R.J. Harvey's catching passes, so I like him in PPR, but he's not really running the ball.
9:52Jonah Coleman could be the workhorse, at least on early downs and goal line work for the last month or two of the year.
9:59Yeah, totally with you. I have him right now at 15%, but I would be willing to go a lot higher if
10:05you're in desperate need of a running back. This is the position that I think most people find themselves in around this
10:12time of year, whether it be injuries or your roster construction that you had at the draft, that you just need a
10:18running back because of the positional scarcity. And I'm willing to go 20-25 if you really need him.
10:23All right, Mitch, you want a quarterback? Let's do it.
10:26I can't believe I'm doing this, Mitch. I hate myself.
10:29I think J.J. McCarthy is a good waiver at this week.
10:32Oh my God. I can't believe I'm doing it.
10:34It's week seven and I'm advising people to pick up J.J.
10:37McCarthy. I don't know what's happening in this world.
10:40He's available in 96% of leagues, which makes sense.
10:42And he's absolutely someone who needs to be added in every single Superflex league.
10:46Sure, yeah. One quarterback, a little bit less certain, but I think he's a decent add as well, especially if you're looking
10:52for some upside at quarterback or you have some injuries at quarterback.
10:56He somehow, someway looked phenomenal in the fourth quarter on Sunday.
10:59I know it's a limited sample size, but he looks really good.
11:02We had a friend text us. He's 9 2.0 now because nine times two is literally 18 is New Jersey number.
11:08And I know that's like a nerdy and witty joke, but it's also just true.
11:12Like he looks so different 243 yards and a touchdown.
11:15So I was a couple of really nice runs.
11:18My Lord, it's just a different player. I'm not saying he is a different player, but at least he looked the part
11:24and we don't know if he's actually going to be the starter going forward yet.
11:28But I think there's a very high chance of that, at least as of recording, we don't know.
11:33So, and with these receivers, Malik, neighbors, and Isaiah likely have been looking out of their minds.
11:38Phenomenal explosive offensive environment for the Giants. Potentially there's, there's legitimate upside there.
11:42If he is the starter, which means he could be a startable fantasy quarterback as well.
11:46Yeah. I mean, I feel like you got replaced with someone.
11:49I don't even recognize because you're praising JJ McCarthy, but I mean, I can't fully disagree with you.
11:54The numbers don't lie. Like what was he in that one quarter?
11:58If you extrapolated into a game, he was on pace for like a thousand yards.
12:02It's like Madden numbers. Yeah. I don't know. Maybe it's just me.
12:05It reminds me so much of that, like miracle comeback win against Chicago that he had his, his second season when he
12:12came back and everyone was like, oh my God, JJ McCarthy in the fourth quarter.
12:16I don't think it's the wrong shot to take though, because I think you talked about, okay, if you're in a pinch, maybe you need a JJ McCarthy.
12:24The way I actually see him as well as like, if you've got a decent quarterback option right now, you've got like
12:30someone who's in like the quarterback, like seven to 10 range.
12:33And you're looking for like a high upside play that could maybe just be like slinging it every game.
12:38Like you can bench JJ McCarthy for right now, pick him up, bench him, and then kind of see what he is.
12:45And he could be an actually very valuable quarterback that you don't have to pay a lot for on the waiver wire.
12:51Agreed. And I'm not projecting him to, to be a league winner or elite, but if you're in the 12 team league
12:57and it's deeper rosters and guys already have multiple quarterbacks, like it's slim pickings at that position.
13:02There's only 32 guys at most playing every week.
13:04If he's a starter and he's in this offensive environment, he's someone who should be rostered.
13:09Obviously there's some reasonable skepticism there. I only have them at about 3% of your fab, at least in one quarterback should be much, much higher than that.
13:17And super flex or two quarterback, but that's a shot I'm worth, I'm worth taking for cheap on the waiver wire.
13:23Exactly. Exactly. It's, it's more of a lottery ticket play.
13:26Um, I'm going to hit another quarterback here that, wow, this is actually, this quarterback section is literally the two of us.
13:32It's just, I feel like we got replaced by like AIs that don't think the way we think.
13:37Cause I'm going to talk about Aaron Rogers and that feels disgusting.
13:40I feel like I already need a shower, but Melo Aaron Rogers is just straight up almost a quarterback one in fantasy football right now.
13:47Like straight up. He is the quarterback 14 on the season.
13:50He's been a top 12 quarterback in guess how many of the last four weeks?
13:55Top four quarterback. You said top 12 quarterback or top 12 quarterback, three of them.
13:59All four of the past four games, Aaron Rogers has been a top 12 quarterback and now gets the devastatingly bad saints
14:05defense that just let nine 2.0, AKA 18, AKA JJ McCarthy come in and look like a real NFL quarterback against them.
14:11And I did not think I would be saying this in the big 2026, but I think he's actually a guy you
14:17can pick up slot in if you need him because of an injury or a buy, but maybe actually continue starting after that.
14:24Like I think Aaron Rogers is a real quarterback pickup right now.
14:27I have him in a very similar range though.
14:30I have him three to 5% on your fab.
14:32I think that's the right price point, but also somebody absolutely worth picking up.
14:36I saw people start him last weekend. It worked.
14:39I, it was a great success to start Aaron Rogers last week.
14:42Yeah. The receivers are playing well too. So I don't hate that at all.
14:46If you need a quarterback, he's a lit, he's a little higher owned than a JJ McCarthy, obviously.
14:51So he's not going to be, he's not going to be available in like every league, but if he's there, I would go after him.
14:58Completely agreed. But onto tight end. Give me your first guy here.
15:02This one's interesting. I want to talk about Michael Mayer, who is available at 84% of leagues.
15:06I think the first couple of weeks he was rostered in just about every league with Brock Bowers out.
15:12And now Brock Bowers has been back. So he's off most people's rosters and I know this might sound crazy, but Mayer is legitimately a decent starting option.
15:20Even with Bowers healthy and playing two weeks ago against new England, he only had two yards.
15:24So that was a complete dub. That's not what you want to be starting.
15:28But in the other two games over the last three weeks, he has 15 receptions on 19 targets for 177 yards.
15:34And keep in mind that is with Brock Bowers on the field with him.
15:38Mayer has been playing over 80% of offensive snaps.
15:41The Raiders are in a ton of two tight end sets, way more than they're in one tight end, three receiver sets.
15:47So because of that, Mayer is still a part of this offense and he's kind of operating as their de facto wide receiver two behind Bowers.
15:54I know it's kind of weird to think a team's top two wide receivers are actually both tight ends and wide receivers.
16:01Honestly, if anything, actually, now that I'm really thinking about it, Brock Bowers is really the wide receiver one, the way they're utilizing him and moving around.
16:08Michael Mayer is kind of their starting tight end.
16:11That's exactly what I was going to say when you wrapped up was I was like, I think he's the tight end one.
16:17And I think Bowers is wide receiver one. I do really think that's the case.
16:21Bowers is just a big wide receiver at this point.
16:24So he's kind of like their second weapon. I know Trey Tucker's coming off a really great week as well.
16:30He has some explosive play opportunities, but Mayer's a real part of this offense.
16:34And I know the floor is super low, like we saw against New England a couple of weeks ago.
16:39But tight end is such a messy cluster of disappointment anyways.
16:42Like all these guys have zero floor. So why not grab the guy that you could see volume like we already have seen from him?
16:49He's absolutely startable. And I'm willing to pay about 10% of my fab for him if I need help at tight end.
16:55Yeah. Yeah. And I want to push back in favor of what you're saying about the New England thing.
17:01I think people will be critical of that game.
17:03But what we talked about was New England was the single best defense against tight ends.
17:08And why we liked Bowers was because of such a low percentage of his snaps coming as an inline tight end.
17:14And of course, Mayer was the one who suffered there while they were moving around Brock Bowers like a chess piece.
17:20And he was doing whatever he wanted against New England.
17:23My only knock on Michael Mayer is that it drives me absolutely insane when you have two tight ends with such similar
17:29frames and builds and they wear numbers like 89 and 87.
17:32Because I keep thinking all my Brock Bowers shares are cooking and then he gets up and it's Michael Mayer.
17:37I'm like, come on. Dude, I can't tell you how many times this year I've heard a commentator say, Bowers!
17:43And it's actually Mayer. Like it confuses the broadcast team as well.
17:47Yeah. If it's confusing them, it's certainly confusing me.
17:49But Melo, I'm going to take a page out of your book.
17:52I want to talk about your guy, Terrence Ferguson.
17:55Let's go. We literally just talked about him in our rest of season tight end rankings as more of a speculative asset in fantasy football.
18:02But he could be really valuable if we ever saw Puka miss time because of the health.
18:07Turns out it's Devante Adams who unfortunately is going to be out until at least after the Rams week 11 bye.
18:13And Terrence Ferguson has one more week on the IR, but eligible to return in week eight.
18:18And I think you could see some extremely usable weeks from the electric tight end who in 58% of his snaps in
18:24week two, the only full game with no Puka Nakua.
18:27He went for six catches, 54 yards and a touchdown on nine targets.
18:30Not only that, he has an incredible schedule coming up here once he's back.
18:34Starting in week nine, they've got the Chargers, Commanders and Cardinals all in a row.
18:38If you've been streaming tight ends and you need help, I think Ferguson's the rare opportunity at getting like a serious difference maker.
18:45And I have him like almost the exact same fab amount, like 10%, if it makes sense for you.
18:50That does make sense. The upside is there. We saw how good he was without Puka Nakua.
18:55I mean, he had some huge plays, some huge games without Puka Nakua.
18:59Now no Devante Adams. You figure he's going to be a bigger part of this offense once he's healthy.
19:04And tight end, like we talked about earlier with Mayer, like it's such a crap shoot anyways.
19:09Why not shoot for that ceiling of the guy who could be really involved and could give you a top five or six finish any given week?
19:16Yeah, absolutely. And let's get out of here with the position that gets streamed the most in fantasy football, our defenses.
19:22Give me your favorite defense pickup this week. Let's go.
19:25My wife's going to be so happy. Her work league, she's like, why don't you guys talk defenses?
19:30I don't know what defenses to pick up. We're talking defenses today.
19:34We're so back. We're so back. And people who know me know I like my fantasy defenses, like Gen Xers like their TV.
19:40Streamed. Just stream every week. I tried to workshop a piss joke there.
19:44Didn't work out. I couldn't make it land. Wait, what was...
19:47There's some synergy. Streaming, piss. I don't know. Oh, streaming.
19:50Okay. Yeah. You know, I'm not... No one's mistaking me for a stand-up comedian show.
19:54I'll take my corny dad Gen X stream joke over a piss joke today.
19:58But let's talk about the Browns, who are available in 83% of leagues.
20:02The Browns defense is about the defense 11 overall, depending on your scoring.
20:05So they've been pretty damn good. And they've especially been great against the run, allowing the sixth fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs this year.
20:13And this is the part I really like. And this is why I stream defenses.
20:17They get Tennessee next week, which is just a layup of a matchup.
20:20I just keep thinking about when Cam Ward said to keep it a buck, we ask.
20:25I... That's just like the mantra of the Titans.
20:27I know they won last week, but I don't really care.
20:31And then after that, Tennessee gets Pittsburgh and New Orleans.
20:33They've both been inconsistent offenses. We've seen really big flashes, but really, real...
20:37Really low lows as well. So if you wanted to hold the Browns beyond one week, I'm okay with that.
20:43But I'm certainly starting them in week seven. And I'll throw 3%, maybe 2, 3, 4.
20:47I don't know. Somewhere in that range to get the Browns defense.
20:51Yeah. I think that's such a good point. Like, we obviously...
20:54You gotta just be looking at the week ahead of you.
20:57It's a week-by-week league here in fantasy football. But when you get the opportunity to pick up a defense that could potentially
21:03be startable for multiple weeks, that's when you can really make your money in the waiver wire.
21:08So I think this is an awesome pick. I'm gonna go with the New York Jets mellow.
21:13And this is the one I teased at the beginning of the episode.
21:16Available in 87% of your leagues. And this breakdown is pretty quick and dirty.
21:20They play the Miami Dolphins. But also, they are the number 5 defense in fantasy football.
21:25They're at home in week 7. And like you said, if you feel like stashing them, you're gonna get a crack at Miami again.
21:31You're gonna get the Chargers before they're by in week 13.
21:35I think you could get a lot of usable weeks out of the Jets here.
21:39I got them right around $3 for my fab suggestion.
21:42Yeah, I think that's what they're worth. And it is interesting they're available in so many leagues.
21:46They have been a pretty solid fantasy defense. And playing Miami, I would trust like a D2 college defense against Miami Dolphins at this point.
21:53Absolutely. And those were our 10 best waiver pickups going into week 7.
