NegativeProjectionOct 8, 2026
Kittle is the TE2 on TE9 usage, defying preseason expectations with strong explosiveness and improved play compared to his time in Australia. He is projected for 54.5 yards at Seattle, but this will be his toughest test to date with the Seahawks looking potent defensively. Seattle has allowed the second-fewest passing yards per game, and betting markets believe the 49ers will be held to 21.5 points. Kittle has yardage totals of 29, 25, and 58 against coach Mike Macdonald but has scored only three total times in those matchups.
PositiveProjectionOct 7, 2026
Kittle is making 11.1 yards per target in his age-33 season despite blowing out his Achilles in January, suggesting he doesn't follow typical actuarial decline patterns. Perfectly schemed by Kyle Shanahan and well-matched with Brock Purdy, Kittle should show up on plenty of championship rosters this year. While he probably won't see Bowers or McBride-type volume, the efficiency will make up for it. Brock Purdy regrets tiptoeing around Kittle despite an affordable summer ADP.
PositiveProjectionOct 1, 2026
Kittle is projected for 64.5 yards vs. DEN in Week 4. He is back to cooking with whip routes underneath and two red-zone scores on great designs. Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy are at the top of their game, and the 49ers are relying on Kittle earlier than expected due to injuries to Mike Evans (ribs), De'Zhaun Stribling (ankle), Demarcus Robinson (ankle), and Jake Tonges. Kittle is TE5 on TE10 usage this season with back-to-back games inside the top six at the position. Those who drafted him at an injury discount are being rewarded.
PositiveUsageSep 28, 2026
89% route share after Week 3 as he's back to full-go for the first time this season. With Mike Evans, De'Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson, Christian Kirk, Ricky Pearsall, and Jake Tonges all injured, there aren't many other options. After Evans left the game on Sunday, Kittle had five of the remaining 10 targets, ending his day with six receptions, 82 yards and two touchdowns. With Deebo Samuel Sr. playing more of a gadget WR role, he shouldn't eat too much into the vast amount of targets available.
NegativeRoleSep 17, 2026
Kittle played 46% of Week 1 snaps, running routes on 46% of dropbacks in his return from a late-season Achilles tear. On tape, he looked rusty with a drop in the flats and athleticism nowhere near his usual level; he showed fight as a run blocker but lacks his typical fluidity and burst. The 49ers face lowly Miami with rookies at off-ball LB and SCB, a great matchup with an elite 29.5-point team total at home, but Kittle is not Kittle right now. He had TE19 expected half-PPR points in Week 1 and has no floor.
NegativeInjurySep 3, 2026
Despite missing five games, Kittle finished 2025 as TE13 in PPR scoring and led all 37 qualified tight ends with a PFF grade of 90.8. He tore his Achilles in the playoffs but could be ready for Week 1 and even traveled with the 49ers for the opening game in Australia. The Niners added Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel in free agency and drafted De'Zhuan Stribling. Kittle remains a high-end TE1, but the uncertainty around his recovery is why he lands at TE6 in the rankings.
PositiveInjuryAug 26, 2026
George Kittle is a soon-to-be 33-year-old who had Achilles surgery on Jan. 14; Week 2 will be exactly nine months from that point, the absolute earliest skill players return from Achilles tears, and most experience real ramp-up periods in snaps with efficiency regression. Over the past two seasons, Kittle averaged 6.1 targets per game (TE8) and 10.7 yards per target (TE1). If the Achilles tear means he's closer to 5.0 targets per game (TE22) and 8.5 YPT (TE5), he'd average only 42.5 yards per game—far more realistic than what a Round 7 price tag suggests.
PositiveInjuryAug 26, 2026
Kittle was drafted as the TE in this mock and got an encouraging report on his recovery from an Achilles tear; he appears on track to not start the season on the PUP list. While he may not play Week 1 and the 49ers could hold him out initially, the source feels comfortable rolling out secondary TE options early until Kittle gets up to speed. His ADP is rising and while the source reached on him slightly, he has a great chance of returning value as the TE3 in FPPG last season. San Francisco would be one injury to Mike Evans away from Kittle being the clear top receiving option on the offense, giving him red-zone target hog status and a great floor/ceiling combo.
PositiveProjectionAug 11, 2026
Kittle represents the drafter's biggest regret from the draft; his recovery is coming along very well and it seems almost likely he'll be back on the field in the opening weeks, yet he still fell to the sixth round in this TE Premium format. If Kittle can get back even close to full health, he's the last tight end on the board with a truly elite ceiling. Kittle has been a top-three fantasy tight end in per-game scoring in seven of the last eight years, finishing fifth in the eighth year.
PositiveProjectionAug 3, 2026
Kittle was the best TE in football the last couple of years but faces durability questions a year after a torn Achilles as a 32-year-old. He was TE1 in EPA per target, completion percentage over expected, yards per target, and success rate from 2024-2025, leading to a TE4 finish on TE9 usage. His 16% target share is not that of an elite tight end, so any dip in efficiency hits harder. Over the past two seasons he averaged 6.1 targets and 10.5 yards per target; if those dip to 5.0 targets and 8.5 yards per target, he'd be around 45 yards per game instead of 65, landing him on the TE1/2 fringe. There is probably more injury downside than upside given the quick timeline to return.
