Defensive coordinators and defensive coaches around the league have ranked Kyle Shanahan as the top offensive play caller in the NFL: 1. Kyle Shanahan 2. Sean McVay 3. Ben Johnson 4. Matt LaFleur 5. Liam Coen 6. Andy Reid 7. Shane Steichen 8. Josh McDaniels 9. Klint Kubiak 10. Mike McDaniel “He’s the best in the business because he can adapt better than anybody. It doesn’t matter who’s lining up, whether you got Jauan Jennings — like, he’s a good player, but he shouldn’t be your best wideout....
Nick Wagoner gives a great breakdown on De'Zhaun Stribling’s day at practice and where he sees him lining up: “Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling was already making a positive first impression and that continued on Wednesday. He’s fast but has a smooth speed that seems to allow him to accelerate and decelerate with little issue. He’s also big enough and unafraid to go over the middle. Had him down for five more catches Wednesday, including a nice job climbing the ladder on a high pass over the middle...
Dre Greenlaw continues to impress at training camp “One of the standouts so far: Dre Greenlaw, who has been teaming with Warner to torment ball carriers and pass catchers in the middle of the field. Wednesday’s team session began with Greenlaw stripping McCaffrey of the ball and recovering the fumble.” — Matt Barrows
49ers OC Klay Kubiak on Jordan Watkins: “Jordan has taken a step. He went through a rookie year with ups and downs with injuries and he’s been a lot more consistent. He was like that in the offseason and he looks that way now. I think the work with Brock over the summer is huge. Not just from football, the comradery, just being together and working together is an added benefit.”
Jordan James suffered a rib fracture in Monday’s practice and will miss some time, per @nwagoner
Bring Deebo Samuel back… IT’S TIME! [Quoted](

Brock Purdy on what Dre Greenlaw’s presence means to the team: “It’s huge. When he came back it was one of our brothers that came back. It’s almost like let’s pickup where we left off after that season when he left. Just his presence. The dawg that he has when he steps on the field. Everybody feeds off that kind of energy. Being on offense, I’ll look across the ball and be like, 'oh shoot', we got Dre Greenlaw next to Fred again, and they’re flying around. And they’re filling the gaps. Like y...

De'Zhaun Stribling’s thoughts on working with Brock Purdy at practice: “Very talented guy. Great leader. Just being out there with him, how he conducts the whole offense. He gets everyone in check. He gives everyone their assignment. I’m just trying to be there for him as a great and reliable receiver.” via: @knbrmurph | @MarkusBoucher

Brock Purdy’s first impressions on playing with Mike Evans: “A true pro. Obviously he’s a Hall of Famer, but the way he goes about his business. Coming in the locker room and getting ready. His mindset— the way he competes when he’s out on the field, running routes on air and when we’re going up against our DBs. He’s pushing, he’s competing and he wants the ball. I’m like 'I love this'— a quarterback loves seeing this out of a receiver who is itching to get the ball. He comes back to you in t...

Brock Purdy on De'Zhaun Stribling: “Dude is a baller and I mean that. It’s hard to say that for a rookie right off the jump, but just seeing him run routes, going up against defenders in OTAs and in camp yesterday. He’s a great route runner. He’s smart. He’s learned the playbook really quick— which is awesome. On top of that, you can see his strength when he’s going up against guys and creating separation, I’m like 'alright, this guy is a strong receiver', so I’m excited to see what he does....
Nick Wagoner gives an update on the open spot at safety: “It looks like there will be a battle again at safety. Marques Sigle and Ji'Ayir Brown were first up with Malik Mustapha rotating a bit with Sigle in this practice. Sigle had an interception on a ball thrown right to him by Mac Jones and Mustapha later had a nice PBU on a deep ball intended for WR Ricky Pearsall.”

John Lynch on Brandon Aiyuk: “We as an organization are gonna focus on the players who are here. I don’t have anything to say on that. We wish him well. We wish his family well.”
The following 49ers are going on the PUP/ list to start training camp: George Kittle (Achilles) Mykel Williams (ACL) Isaac Guerendo (pec) Alfred Collins (shoulder) John Lynch is optimistic on all of them being on the practice field sooner than later

Eric Branch has some interesting predictions for the 49ers this season: • The 49ers over-reliance on aging 30-something players due to their series of lackluster recent drafts will catch up to them (and those NFL-record travel miles won’t help): They will finish 9-8, miss the playoffs and finish in third place in the NFC West behind the Rams and Seahawks • The Brandon Aiyuk saga will somehow get more bizarre — and the former All-Pro wide receiver won’t play in the NFL in 2026 • Best value dra...
