Crowell had a breakout performance in week five of the 2018 season against the Broncos, rushing for 219 yards on 15 carries (14.6 yards per carry, an NFL record) with runs of 77, 54, and 36 yards; the Jets rushed for 324 total yards in a win that made it appear they had found an offensive line solution and running back tandem; however, this was a false dawn—Crowell averaged just 3.4 yards per carry over the rest of the season and never played in the NFL again thereafter, and the offensive line (Spencer Long, James Carpenter, Brian Winters, Kelvin Beachum, Brandon Shell) all left the team by the end of the following season.
