0:07Welcome into the FantasyPros - Fantasy Football Podcast. I'm Chris Welsh, joined by Andrew Erickson and Tara Roberts.
0:12And today, we're talking about players that we, well, we're going to reach for.
0:16These are the five players that you need to draft before their current listed ADP.
0:21And guys, we're going to go quickly through this.
0:24We've got five players. Each of you will have two players you're talking about today.
0:28And then one player that actually we all agree on here.
0:31So what we're going to do is we're going to move right past rounds one and two because you can't really reach that far.
0:39But when we get to round three, this is where you can start to make some decisions.
0:44So Erickson, I'm going to have you kick us off here.
0:47Round three through six. Who are you reaching a little bit ahead for?
0:51So I'm actually going to reach into rounds one or even round two here with this particular player.
0:57His ADP kind of goes at the tail end of round two, beginning of round three.
1:01People are praying that this player will fall to them into round three.
1:05And spoiler, AJ Brown's not going to be there for you at the beginning of round three.
1:10I think that you have to be aggressive if you want to get a chance to get the Patriots alpha wide receiver,
1:17because I think that his upside is sky high.
1:20We're just talking before we started recording. Tara made her pick in our flex draft.
1:24I drafted AJ Brown at the end of the first round.
1:28That's how high I am on him delivering a monster season this year for the New England Patriots.
1:33We've seen the alpha receiver and a Josh McDaniels offense see north of 150 targets, whether that's Brandon Marshall with the Denver
1:40Broncos, whether that's Devontae Adams with the Las Vegas Raiders.
1:43Josh McDaniels feeds his number one wide receiver and the Patriots went out and got that guy this offseason with the acquisition
1:50of AJ Brown, who was far from washed last year.
1:53It was more of him being disinterested in a anemic Eagles passing game.
1:56He was still a wide receiver, 11 in points per game.
2:00I think he gets a massive quarterback upgrade in an offense last year that ranked fourth in pass rate over expectation.
2:06The Patriots face a much tougher schedule. What does that mean for me?
2:10We're going to see more passing attempts from his offense overall.
2:13The sheer volume is going to be larger for this Patriots passing attack led by AJ Brown.
2:19And I don't know if you guys listen to it, but on the tailgate front of the show, Evan Lazar came on
2:25Patriots beat reporter and he highlighted AJ Brown's role in the red zone.
2:29And how that was going to be a big difference in terms of the Patriots passing attack compared to last year.
2:35And when you look at how AJ Brown wasn't used at all in the red zone, he had three end zone targets last year.
2:43That was it. Three. He was outside the top 30 in red zone targets per game last year.
2:48Dallas Goddard, Devontae Smith really took on the majority of those looks.
2:52I mean, Dallas Goddard seemed like every single week was scoring a touchdown.
2:56They were just dialing up these plays layups for him in the red zone.
3:00So I think AJ Brown, the ceiling is wide receiver one overall.
3:04I really don't think that that's too outlandish because when the Eagles actually decided to use him, when he came back from
3:10his hamstring injury, six game stretch from weeks 11 through 16, he was pacing as fantasy football's wide receiver three in points
3:17per game here in double digit targets. And he dominated.
3:20I think that's what we're going to see here in New England.
3:24I don't know that I'm quite there with you into round one, Erickson, but you are fantasy pros bad boy here.
3:30You just do whatever you want and damn the rules.
3:33I do have a good question for you, though, on AJ Brown.
3:37Do you think he has any good books that he's going to bring with him to New England if and when he decides to read on the sideline?
3:45Now he's going to be too busy scoring touchdowns to pay attention to the books.
3:50Fair. Fair. Okay. All right. I like it. Tara, you have a player currently going rounds three through five here, a running back.
3:57I misspoke earlier, by the way, rounds three through five, not rounds three through six.
4:01But Tara, you've got a running back here that I have actually been drafting a little bit of this offseason.
4:07But I'm getting nervous as we get closer to the actual NFL week one.
4:11I get that. I understand it's Josh Jacobs and there's reason to be nervous.
4:16There's a couple of reasons that people are nervous and they're not they're not buying into the little discount.
4:21And I'm willing to reach here as well to get him and make sure that he's on my team.
4:27And obviously, the thing that makes people nervous is the legal issues.
4:31The NFL, you know, is going to look at it.
4:34There could be a punishment issue. This was very close to the season.
4:38It hasn't even had the chance to actually play out in terms of the legal process.
4:43So often we see with these types of things, these are things that would affect the next season here.
4:48So from a dynasty perspective, you might need to be a little worried.
4:52But from a redraft perspective, take the little risk here and go ahead and invest into Josh Jacobs.
4:58And then the second reason that people are a little hesitant here is obviously the perception of him having a down year in 2025.
5:05In 2024, Jacobs had a very strong season where he had over 300 carries, 1500 touchdowns or 15 touchdowns, over 1300 yards plus receiving work.
5:13It was a good hefty workload for him. And then in 2025, he came down to 234 carries, just 900 yards, 13 touchdowns.
5:19So the touchdowns same, the same receiving work stayed about the same, though.
5:23Naturally, this is causing people to think that this is an age issue because he is pushing up there.
5:29So they're thinking that we're starting to see the decline here and that there is a that's the reason for them having
5:36this decrease in terms of production and total touches.
5:39But there's a logical reason for why this happened.
5:41The Packers are making a playoff push. Jacobs got injured.
5:44He tried to play through the injury. He should not have tried to play through the injury.
5:49He was not effective. It knocked the numbers down.
5:52So they look a little wonky when he was healthy.
5:55He was pumping out touchdowns at one of the most reliable rates in the NFL, still managed 14 on the season.
6:02And prior to week 11, which was when his injury was, the man had literally one game, one game without a rushing touchdown.
6:08That was against Cleveland with three multiple touchdown games over that stretch.
6:12His worst finish was RB 23 and half PPR with five top 10 finishes.
6:16The man puts out work and they lean aggressively on him.
6:20He was RB seven over that time period in average fantasy points per game, averaging 16.7 points per game and half PPR.
6:26The man is a factual RB one on an offense that leans aggressively on the run.
6:31And while perhaps they maybe want to freshen things up and push the pass a little more, that's okay.
6:37There is plenty of room for that because they were literally seventh in rush attempts last year and 27th in pass attempts.
6:44They could increase their passing efficiency, push pass volume a little bit, and they would still be aggressively run heavy.
6:50This in terms of having any kind of fear of him and fading him for the season.
6:55Just go ahead and buy the dip here and make sure that you get him on your team because you're drafting him as a mid-tier RB two.
7:03When in all actuality, if he's on the field, he's a lock for an RB one.
7:08Okay, kids. All right. We started this off and I'm going to say so far, I'm not buying either of what you guys are selling.
7:15I know. I know. We've got a couple of rounds later though to see if you guys can win me over.
7:22But right now I think both of these players, AJ Brown and Josh Jacobs are both properly priced, adequately priced.
7:28I think one of the things that I was worried about with Jacobs was the groin injury that happened recently.
7:34He had missed over roughly the last two weeks of practice.
7:37He's back today. Just took a look at the reports right now.
7:41He's back in practice. So everything should be good there.
7:44But let's move down a little bit further because I think as you go down drafts, that's where you can really take
7:50advantage of taking a player a round ahead, even two rounds ahead.
7:54And really throw things for a loop in your home league draft.
7:58So let's go rounds six through nine here. Tara, I'm going to have you kick us off here.
8:03If you have a wide receiver, this is where I think you're going to win me back.
8:08Perfect. Good. Because I was ready. I was ready to fight to win you over here.
8:13And I know I'm going to convince you on this one.
8:16That's all that matters to me. No one else.
8:19Exactly. Exactly. And especially because you just mentioned the injury thing.
8:22So let's pivot away from somebody who is currently dealing with an injury and go on to someone who can benefit from
8:29their fellow overslaver dealing with an injury. It is Chris Godwin that I would love to draft above ADP here.
8:35And it could be spiking, but I think the age concerns for him is going to keep it at a reasonable level here.
8:42So it won't go too high. It's been very stable.
8:45I love Emeka Egbuka and drafting him dearly. I've taken quite a bit shares.
8:49I'm praying for that toe specifically in his recovery.
8:52But Chris Godwin's ADP, it's only a matter of time before this starts spiking when people start to see him healthy, see
8:59him in preseason and get on the same page of saying, hey, guys, this is this is Chris Godwin.
9:05And we're getting a nice discount on him. I want to grab him at value at a nice round eight ADP where
9:11you're drafting him currently around a lot of receivers and players who have question marks.
9:16It's a great place to invest in a potential bounce back from a guy that we haven't seen put up numbers in
9:22a couple of years now because he's been dealing with injuries.
9:26But by all accounts, he is actually healthy. He is on the field.
9:30We see him. He looks good. He looks explosive.
9:32And all reports are saying he looks like the old version of Chris Godwin.
9:37So getting into round eight, maybe even beyond, is a perfect time to take that gamble on Chris Godwin being healthy.
9:43Tampa has been very generous. They've been not so generous in terms of like injury timelines in general.
9:48But one thing they have been generous on is actually telling us how these receivers are going to line up.
9:54They've been very transparent about that with Emeka Ibuka lining up as the Z receiver and Chris Godwin out of the slot.
10:01And when we're looking at these two players, they mesh very well together and they can work in tandem.
10:07And what that means in terms of production is the most likely scenario here with Godwin out of the slot is the
10:14version that we did see several years ago that can get you 120 targets as a baseline.
10:19If it's a baseline, 900 to 1,000 yards is a realistic volume level, then that's probably maybe being a little conservative in terms of looking at the floor.
10:27He's a volume receiver, very suitable for PPR. Probably going to get you around a max of five touchdowns.
10:33But really, we're not looking for him to ever get to double-digit touchdowns.
10:37That's not traditionally what he has been. We're looking for the volume here for him.
10:41Obviously, Emeka would be the candidate for double-digit touchdowns and potentially higher yardage.
10:45But if we've got him dealing with this lingering toe issue, perhaps some of those touchdowns could slide over to Chris Godwin,
10:52some increased volume, create a higher opening for a ceiling.
10:55And Erickson was talking about that flex league draft.
10:58I literally just had to decide if I was taking Emeka Ibuka.
11:01And I'm not going to lie, the toe injuries here are concerning because there's not an exact timeline.
11:07You never know. They could linger. They could be an off-and-on issue that goes throughout the entire season.
11:12He's got nine more. He'll be fine. Yeah, you know, that's true.
11:16You only need nine to function, right? Or is eight.
11:19That'll work? I'm not a doctor. I do not take any of this as medical advice.
11:24But yes, if that continues to linger, we should be perfectly fine on seeing an even potential higher ceiling.
11:29So we've got a nice floor, a nice baseline with maybe a higher ceiling there at a very reasonable price.
11:36Yeah, there are a few things for Godwin and for the Buccaneers that just could align properly.
11:41Last year, Baker Mayfield was very, very hurt. The rushing offense was highly inefficient.
11:45The offensive line was very injured. All of a sudden, if you have an offense that's able to move the ball, touchdown opportunities are going up.
11:53No Mike Evans being there. Healthy Chris Godwin. There's enough things here that can actually align where I'm saying, yeah, I'm totally
11:59cool with taking Chris Godwin a few spots earlier, especially in round seven.
12:03Looking at some of the other guys that we've got there in round seven, Tara, I mean, Brian Thomas Jr.
12:09is a guy that's up and down where a lot of people, I mean, a lot of people are waffling on him.
12:16DK Metcalf, who I don't really love this season.
12:19Josh Downs, who his ADP and his ranking is probably going to drop now that Keenan Allen is there.
12:25So Chris Godwin, I think, becomes one of these guys that pretty, I think, easily jumps into round seven for me.
12:31So I'll applaud you on this one. We're back on track, Tara.
12:34You're one for one and one now. One and one.
12:38There we go. It's to redeem yourself here in rounds six through nine.
12:41And I'm cheating because I can see the paper here.
12:44So, yeah, I love who you picked. Alfredo, fade AJB wide receiver one season at your own risk.
12:50But Jonathan Brooks is my pick here. Someone that I am definitely willing to bring up into round six.
12:56Recently in a best ball live stream I did with Tom Strachan over on Fantasy Pro's Twitch channel.
13:01He went right around in this area RB29 in the FFPC.
13:04And that's kind of the range that he is still going in the real time ADP around that RB30 range.
13:10And I still think it's not high enough. Based on the new information we have, Chuba Hubbard expected to miss multiple weeks with a hamstring injury.
13:18Something that he's dealt with in the past. We already were seeing the Panthers put Brooks in a position to take over
13:25the starting role of this Panthers backfield. And right now, he has the clear pathway to do so.
13:3023 years old. All accounts are that he is fully healthy and ready to go.
13:35We saw him play actual football this past weekend.
13:38He was out there. He played, according to PFS Nathan Yonke, 80% of the snaps with the starters.
13:43That is really, really good. He only basically missed one or two snaps with Trevor Etienne taking over some of the third and long distance stuff.
13:51So, Brooks, for me, is slated to be the Panthers' week one starter.
13:55They opened the year up against the Chicago Bears.
13:58One of the worst defenses on paper. We'll see if that shakes out that way as we progress throughout the season.
14:04But it's a matchup where if you draft Jonathan Brooks in round six, round seven, he falls to you there.
14:10You're going to probably be potentially starting him week one of this season.
14:14Whether it's as your RB2 or as a flex position.
14:17Just because based on the matchup and where he's going to fall in the week one rankings.
14:22So, I think that Brooks should be going higher.
14:25I would be willing to move him up the ADP as you enter your drafts over the next couple weeks.
14:31He's still kind of buried a little bit. Now, obviously, he has gained a lot of steam since the beginning of the offseason.
14:38But I don't think that we've seen the full account of, okay, Hubbard's going to miss time.
14:43Brooks is locked and loaded to be the RB1 for this offense.
14:47And I know that there are some concerns about the offensive line for Carolina.
14:51I know they did all look good in their first preseason game.
14:55Now, they were also missing their starting guards. So, that definitely does require some context of why they got no push up front.
15:02And the other thing with Brooks is, yeah, maybe he is more so-so as a rusher.
15:06Pass catching. Like, that is so key when you're trying to unlock ceilings with these fantasy football running backs.
15:12He had one target on three routes run. And I looked at his whole NFL sample size.
15:17Again, very, very small. Combined. It's like 12 plays?
15:20It's 13 routes. Alfredo, come on. Respect him off.
15:23Put some respect on the former Longhorn running back.
15:2513 routes, four targets. So, that's a 31% target rate.
15:28That is really, really high for a running back.
15:31So, if Bryce Young is more under pressure, he is under duress.
15:35He can't see over his offensive line. What is he going to do?
15:39He's going to check the ball down to his running back.
15:42So, I think Brooks, especially in an offense that, who are we expecting to gobble up targets behind T-Mac and Jalen Coker?
15:49Leggett? No, man. That is God. That guy puts the X in sacrificial.
15:53Darren Waller's in town now. That guy puts the X in sacrificial X.
15:57Xavier Leggett. Okay? That's what he's meant for. Darren Waller, we'll see.
16:00He'll catch a couple touchdowns. Yeah. Release his rap album.
16:03It'll be fun for four weeks. And then he'll be back on Indra Preserve.
16:07Because that's exactly what Darren Waller does every single year.
16:10So, the pass catching is there. Clear path to cementing RB1 status throughout the rest of preseason and training camp.
16:17The matchup in week one. Jonathan Brooks still going too late in some of these drafts.
16:21It's someone that you should be proactive. Pull up around when you're setting up your draft board in your queue.
16:27Make sure he's locked and loaded. Because the time round six comes around, you should be clicking the button on Jonathan Brooks.
16:34And I didn't get him in the draft that we did last night.
16:38I was considering him. I went with Carnell Tate instead.
16:41And again, I just didn't enjoy the rest of my night because I kept regretting, man, I should have took Jonathan Brooks.
16:48I waited too long. And someone else took him right before my next pick at the turn.
16:53And I was really disappointed. And that's really know how you feel about players is not when you draft them, but how
17:00gutted you feel when you don't get them. And that was my feeling with Jonathan Brooks.

17:14I'm even willing to take him as early as round five, depending on how fast running back dries up in my drafts.

17:58He should be next to all these guys. Quinshawn Judkins, Cam Scadamu, Bucky Irving, Trevin Henderson, Bachel Tootin, Jadarian Price.
18:04All these running backs who could have big roles but have question marks.
18:08That's where Jonathan Brooks should be. Not going six or seven spots later than them in two rounds later.
18:14So if you do see him in round seven, it's an auto draft for me.

19:05The task at hand was to find a player that both of you agreed on.
19:10And you know what? I'm just going to throw myself in here.
19:14All three of us agree on this player. And Eric said, I'm going to have you kick us off talking about Jawan
19:20Johnson, tight end for the New Orleans Saints. Fantasy Pros ECR has him at tight end 16.
19:25Real time ADP has him at tight end 18 in round 14 right now.
19:30So if you're trying to wait on tight end or you're trying to pair Jawan Johnson with one of these tight ends
19:36that might have an injury early in the season, like a Tucker craft or George Kittle, this becomes an ideal target, especially now with Jordan Tyson.
19:44Jawan Johnson expected to miss some time early in the season.
19:47We lost Chica Conquo as a late round tight end option, but we did gain Jawan Johnson as a late round tight
19:54end option this year with the injury to Jordan Tyson.
19:57I think that locks in Jawan Johnson as the number two pass catcher on the New Orleans Saints.
20:03I've done some research listening to New Orleans.football's Nick Underhill.
20:06I think he does one of the best jobs of covering the New Orleans Saints from a beat reporter perspective.
20:12And he has been very vocal about the most targeted player during training camp other than Chris Olave is Jawan Johnson.
20:18And that should not come as any surprise based on what he did last year when he was fifth in catches.
20:24He had 77 catches and he was third in yards among tight ends at 889.
20:29Only scored three touchdowns, which is kind of the big reason why he didn't pop in a lot of the fantasy points
20:36per game numbers at the end of the season.
20:38He was only tight on 15 and points per game, but they would like using him a ton.
20:44So I think that he's a little bit of a frustrating player in real life.
20:48I know that myself and Pat Fitzmorris have gone back and forth about, well, how good is Jawan Johnson really as a player?
20:55He had seven drops last year per PFF, which actually tied with the league lead.
21:00So yes, there are times where he can be really, really frustrating.
21:03So if there was a case where he was being bolted up boards, he was being viewed as an elite tight end.
21:10I would be like, whoa, whoa, whoa. We got to pause the break.
21:14Like Jawan Johnson, he's fine, but he's not an elite tight end.
21:18But when you're getting him as a value here, especially with the opportunity that he has, we know he already has chemistry built in with Tyler Shuck.
21:26It's a fast paced offense that plays indoor conditions.
21:28The first two weeks of the season for the Saints, they face the Lions and they face the Ravens.
21:34Two games that you could easily see be shootouts and Jawan Johnson gobble up targets in those opportunities.
21:40So besides Olave, it's just Devon Bailey. Again, I'm not afraid of him when it comes to target competition.
21:45The couple of the rookies, obviously Tyson missing up to a month, probably of the regular season.
21:51So Jawan Johnson from week 10 onward with Tyler Shuck as his quarterback.
21:54Average over 61 receiving yards per game. And although I was a little bit more concerned about Oscar Delp taking a bigger
22:01role as a rookie tight end, it seems like the reporting has been he's more of a 2027 type of play where
22:08they're looking at him as the future. Whereas Jawan Johnson right now is going to be a big part of the Saints passing attack.
22:15Yeah, Jawan Johnson career year last season, first year with Kellen Moore.
22:19We're looking at the same opportunity again, 100 plus targets.
22:22Tara, really quick, add on here as to what makes Jawan Johnson such an enticing pick for you, because both of you
22:28guys, when we looked at this prior to the show, have him ranked at least 12 spots ahead of real time ADP.
22:35So what is it about Johnson that has you willing to take him a little bit earlier?
22:40Yeah, the thing about Johnson is, is I've been a lifelong truther.
22:44Not a lot lifelong, like two years, two year long truther of him.
22:48He was my secret sauce. Yeah, short life. It's been a short life.
22:52Secret sauce and tight end premium leagues last year.
22:54And you guys, you nailed it, right? Hopefully Oscar adult being there will stop any hype from happening.
23:00And this is going to be a late round value because the thing that is happening here is we are thinning out
23:06as we are pushing to these late round tight ends.
23:09When you talked about Che Guevara being gone, you know, we had confidence in Isaiah likely.
23:14And then what we saw in the first week of the preseason was just kind of disturbing and kind of like, whoa,
23:21maybe pump our brakes here a little bit. So it thins out and the reliable options that you have aren't there.
23:27We know the secret sauce in terms of what makes a startable tight end one.
23:32It's being the second look on your team. That's it, period.
23:35And that's what Juwan Johnson will be when Jordan Tyson is out.
23:39So definitely a more of a lean in PPR because of the lack of touchdowns here.
23:44But there is a clear baseline of volume that he is going to see specifically with Kellen Moore.
23:49And that's the key. Kellen Moore. We know who he is.
23:52We know pace of play. We know that Tyler Shuck is going to easily average over 30 attempts.
23:58So volume will be there for him. Yeah, I think the thing that all of us have touched on here is that we're going to see volume.
24:06We're going to see a good offense. And that touchdown positive regression should be coming for Juwan Johnson here.
24:12Three touchdowns last year on 100 plus targets is criminal.
24:15And a lot of that had to do with you start half the year with Spencer Rattler and then you go into
24:21Tyler Shuck just getting used to the offense. There's a lot there.
24:25Also, better offense will give you more opportunities for touchdowns.
24:28That's something we can see as well this year with an improved offensive line, improved running back situation as well.
24:34Well, there you have it, everybody. The five players that are experts, Andrew Erickson and Tara Roberts, are taking ahead of ADP.
24:41No, Erickson. And I will not buy in just yet on the AJ Brown wide receiver one overall hype.
24:47Just wait till you see those Patriots Eagles join practice highlights, Alfredo.
