1:04Listen to NFL Pro on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
1:09You can still call it a comeback, but it's going to have to wait a week.
1:14Coming up, why AD will be a DNP in Australia week one for the Rams.
1:19I thought Baker wasn't going to negotiate. We'll tell you why the time is now for the Buccaneers to fire the cash cannons for their quarterback.
1:27Plus, we've got a game tomorrow? We do. Devin McCourty joins us with an opening night preview.
1:33It is next on the NFL Report. We are one night away now from the NFL's 107th season.
1:39Welcome to the NFL Report, brought to you by Nationwide.
1:42Coming up, Devin McCourty will be here. We'll tell you who is in and who is out in the opener.
1:48First though, what is news to me? Let's get to our latest headlines here, and we'll begin with who's not going to Australia.
1:56Aaron Donald not going to Australia. He's not going to make the trip.
2:00Sean McVay made that announcement today. Two weeks after coming out of retirement, Donald is not yet ready to play a football game.
2:08He's doing a great job. I think he'll be ready to go sooner rather than later, but we're making a decision that
2:15we think is best for him and for our team.
2:18And I think what's cool is you have such confidence in the group that we do have.
2:23With Kobe, with Fisk, with Puna Ford, with Tyler Davis, Ty Hamilton has done a really good job.
2:29And so, you know, he's going to be a big part.
2:33You know, Aaron will be, you know, it'll add value when he's ready to go.
2:38But, you know, being two years off retirement, he's attacked this the right way.
2:42But it would have been a really quick turnaround.
2:45And so we feel like he can manage, you know, being able to get himself ready to go.
2:51And he won't make the trip and he'll be able to take good care of himself in terms of getting himself ready to go whenever that time comes.
3:00Look who's here, everybody. The great Nick Shook is here.
3:03Welcome back to the team, buddy. So, no, Aaron Donald.
3:07I don't think it's that much of a surprise.
3:10Although the 49ers have been saying for weeks now they thought he was going to play since this story broke months ago.
3:17Yeah, because they have to prepare that way as they go into week one.
3:21But honestly, it's not that big of a deal because you have the other half of the former Florida State duo, which
3:28was Jared Burst and Braden Fisk still got Braden Fisk there.
3:32They have plenty of depth on the defensive line.
3:35It's not going to be much of an issue.
3:38And it's not much of a surprise given that Aaron Donald didn't get that much of a ramp up period going into this season.
3:46So it's better to play it safe. Let him get ready at his pace.
3:50So the next chance for him to get back on the field would be week two.
3:55The Rams, they come back from Australia on Friday.
3:58Kyle Shanahan's time machine coming up in a second.
4:01They'll have a extra weekend off and then week two they play on Monday night at home against the Giants.
4:08All right, let's get to who's playing and who isn't playing for the 49ers.
4:12Nick Bosa is going to play in the game that according to Niners coordinator Raheem Morris.
4:17Bosa was a full participant in practice this summer for the first time only six days ago.
4:23His torn ACL was week three back in 2025.
4:26Bosa and George Kittle are both maybe kind of sort of expected to play.
4:30Clay Kubiak, the offensive coordinator, says Kittle looks good for this season opener against the Rams.
4:36He's coming back from the Achilles injury. It happened at the playoffs in January.
4:40Both were limited participants. What is today? Today's Tuesday.
4:43Both were limited participants Wednesday in practice because it's Wednesday in Australia.
4:47That makes sense, right? That makes sense? Okay. If it doesn't make sense, don't worry about it because it doesn't make sense to Kyle Shanahan.
4:55This is probably the best thing you missed all weekend when you were watching college football.
5:00When I look at my clock and it says the time, then I try to see my family's time and then it
5:07says the time but it says yesterday. I don't even get how that's possible.
5:12So I feel like I'm in the future. And then also when we play on our Friday, which I think is a
5:19Thursday in the U.S., we're such creatures of habit.
5:22So I call today Tuesday. No wait, sorry, I call today Wednesday, which is the first day we put in a game plan.
5:29But I think it's Monday. However, though, it's Sunday in the present.
5:33So like, I'm going to mess that up all week if you guys ask me.
5:38But today is just our first day of the game plan, which is a Wednesday.
5:43We'll put in some on a Thursday. Friday is the final part of the game plan.
5:48Saturday we walk there when we play on Sunday, which is a Friday in Australia and a Thursday in the U.S.
5:55So don't ever make me do that again. I am not going to make him do that again, but that is hysterical.
6:02And the Rams are going to be in the air to Australia back and forth for more time than they're going to be on the ground.
6:11Which is crazy. And it's going to be a big test of preparation and differences in strategy.
6:16How does one team being there so long and another team being there according to usual schedule really play a difference in this game?
6:24We're going to see. Obviously, we're not going to have Aaron Donald on the field, but we also are going to see
6:31whether, you know, George Kittle gets closer. And ultimately, we're going to just to be a battle.
6:37It's going to be a battle of which strategy for preparation works more and maybe neither will in the ultimate.
6:43Can we just say this? And this is the story here.
6:47Sean McVay doesn't like playing international games and he's going to show up as late as he possibly can.
6:53He's going to win and then he's going to leave.
6:56And that's how he wants to do it. Now, I'm not saying he's going to win this game, but he is three and own international games.
7:04He generally blows the other team out last year.
7:07They stayed on the East Coast a week before the game.
7:11They played in Baltimore. They took a red eye to London.
7:15They got off the plane Saturday, had a workout, a nap and woke up and killed the Jaguars so badly.
7:21The game was over at halftime. So that's what he's going to try to do this.
7:26Yeah, I mean, I give him a lot of credit for sticking to his routine.
7:31If he knows that this is what works, if he knows that his players can adapt and this is what he believes
7:38is best for his team, he's going to do it, which is what he said this week.
7:44It's what he's going to do. What the Buccaneers are going to do is get Baker Mayfield a new contract.
7:50At least we know he's not going to go to the Steelers next year.
7:55There's the good news. Baker Mayfield gets a three year extension, $165 million.
7:59Remember this after Baker had said that he is not going to negotiate once training camp begins, but he actually did and he got a deal done.
8:0855 seems like the sweet spot. It seemed like that number the entire time he said he wanted to be in the
8:1550 million club and he was disappointed to not get there before the start of training camp.
8:20There's a number of quarterbacks that are at that 55 million Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence among them.
8:26And so now he enters that group. It feels right for the most part.
8:30Yes, he struggled down the stretch last year while playing through injuries, but we know what his value is to this Buccaneers team.
8:38So it's nice that they got it done. Did it break the rules of him setting a deadline at the beginning of camp?
8:45Yes, but ultimately they get it done. It's one less thing on the checklist and one less thing to worry about for the Buccaneers.
8:53What do you think the real guarantee is? What the guarantee is?
8:57What the real guarantee is. Oh, goodness. Well, I mean, I would imagine, let's see, 55 over three.
9:03I would say that of the 165, let's put it near 100.
9:07Yep, 100. 100 over two and we'll call it 165 over three.
9:11Yeah, we'll see where we're at in year three.
9:14This is the contract speculation game. It's something that we all behind the camera play in this business.
9:19Baker Mayfield gets himself a brand new contract. Also getting himself a new contract is one Christian Gonzalez.
9:25He is going to play on Wednesday because he gets his deal done.
9:30Four years and $135 million. It's $102 million with the guarantee.
9:33Christian Gonzalez wouldn't give a definite answer earlier this week when asked would he play without a new deal.
9:39He's on the plane. He's going to play. All right, let's get to Kansas City where the Chiefs have themselves a left tackle problem.
9:47More on that in a second. They don't have a quarterback problem.
9:51Andy Reid says Patrick Mahomes will most likely play.
9:54That means he is going to play week one on Monday night.
9:58Yeah, I mean he's shown everything there, Pete. He's, he has missed a day as you know and you guys have seen
10:05him out there so you know what it looks like him running around and doing his stuff.
10:10You know, rather than having a brace on his leg and everything looks normal.
10:15I mean he's running, running around the same way he's always done and throwing the ball like he's always done so.
10:22All right, now let's get to the left tackle problem.
10:25Josh Simmons is unlikely to play Monday. That means you're going to have Jalen Moore playing right tackle and you're going to
10:32have Mahomes blindside protected likely by an undrafted rookie free agent named Khalil Benson.
10:37Nice story played in Indiana. What a national championship.
10:40The problem is Khalil Benson played right tackle at Indiana.
10:43He has never really played left tackle. So there's that Monday night as the Chiefs open up against the Denver Broncos as we continue on the NFL report.
10:52What about Wednesday night? We're opening on a Wednesday for the first time in a decade coming up next that man Devin
10:59McCourty with his two cents or maybe a nickel on the Patriots and the Seahawks and night number one.
11:05You know the feeling. You make a pick in your fantasy draft and the entire room groans because they wanted that player.
11:12Or you grab a small school rookie off waivers and you start him right before he goes off in primetime.
11:19There's no better feeling than crushing your fantasy football league.
11:22I'm JJ Zacharisen host of the late round fantasy football podcast.

14:02Listen to NFL Pro on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
14:07The new NFL season is here and you should be listening to NFL Daily as we march along to Super Bowl 61.
14:14Last year, we had Mike McDonald, Sam Darnold on the field after the game, but that was last year.
14:20If you're a football sicko like me, NFL Daily is your kind of show.
14:25It is in the name, NFL Daily, fresh content in your feed every day, all season long.
14:30Matthew Stafford coming off his MVP season. On a dazzling dart from Matthew Stafford.
14:35Big time trades that shake up the NFL. A.J.
14:38Brown is loose. And of course, those Seahawks trying to run it back and win another Lombardi trophy.
14:44The Seahawks win Super Bowl 60. They are bringing the Lombardi back to the Northwest.
14:48If it's happening on a football field, NFL Daily will cover it.
14:52Listen to NFL Daily on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
14:58You're watching the NFL Report. We have our first injury report for week number one.
15:02Seahawks Patriots are the opener on a Wednesday night.
15:05Nicky Benwari is questionable. Torrey Horton also questionable. Ty Okada is out at safety.
15:10So the Seahawks banged up in their secondary. As for the Patriots, Gravion Henderson, that's the big one, is out.
15:16So, Ramondre Stevenson, RB1. Maybe Corey Keiner? RB2. Plan accordingly.
15:20Here we go! D, D, D. D, D, D.
15:23D, D, D. T, D, D. D, D on 3.
15:26One, two, three. You'll be with us. I'm the double move king.
15:30He is a three-time Super Bowl champion. Now he's a fantastic broadcaster for not only NBC as we get ready for the
15:37kickoff opener tomorrow, but for the Patriots in the Preseason as well.
15:41Devin McCourty, do you believe that that used to be you?
15:44At first, the sound came on. I'm like, damn, that sounds like me, but what are they going back?
15:50And the funny thing is that last clip was Marcus Jones getting interception training camp his rookie year, and he's still out there doing it, man.
15:59So really cool to get a little flashback to the good old days.
16:03He's still out there doing it. You're still out there doing it as well as we get ready for any given Wednesday to open.
16:11How weird is that? It's definitely weird, even thinking about telling people, hey, man, got the opener.
16:16They're like, oh, what was that, Sunday, Thursday? I was like, no, we're tomorrow.
16:21We're on Wednesday night. So anytime there's football, especially to start the season, I don't care what day of the week.
16:28I think people are excited, ready to go. Absolutely.
16:31And for those who don't remember, we have opened on a Wednesday before in 2012 because President Obama had, was accepting the
16:38Democratic National, at the DNC, was accepting the nomination.
16:41We moved the opener until Wednesday. So this has happened before.
16:44This is not that odd. We're also getting a Super Bowl rematch.
16:48And a weird thing has happened, Devin. I think we are heading into a Super Bowl rematch where both teams feel disrespected.
16:55You know from a Patriots perspective that all during the season and during the offseason, people wanted to point to the schedule
17:03a year ago and the Bo Nix injury as to the reason the Patriots got there.
17:08And then you have the Seahawks. With all the attention on Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett down the road, people forget that they are the defending champions.
17:16Can you remember a setup like this? No. I mean, especially you said it started off with the Super Bowl rematch.
17:23And if we're being honest, it wasn't like we all walked away from that game in February and said we want to see it again.
17:31But the changes that these teams have made, the Patriots, they went through it.
17:36I think there's like 40-something new guys on their team.
17:39They looked at that roster and said, yes, we were in a Super Bowl, but we still have to make a lot of changes.
17:47So they feel like they are a better team.
17:50And then anytime you get the defending champs feeling like people are not respecting them, that's scary.
17:55And then this was unique because I got to be in New England for the preseason games.
18:01And then we all tuned in and watched hard knocks.
18:04So this feels like a buildup of a battle of two teams who were where everybody wanted to be last year.
18:11But they feel like they need to prove to everyone they are who they are this year to start off the season.
18:18All right, let's unpack the Patriots because, as you said, you were there.
18:22You did an amazing job with your brother Jason in the booth on the preseason local TV.
18:28I love how they would have that two shot of you, too, because sometimes people said, like, well, who's talking?
18:34Then we put the two of you on camera and we see the two of you talking.
18:40You guys did a great job. Depth, Mike Vrabel says, is an issue.
18:44Mike Vrabel two weeks ago flat out said, we have no depth.
18:48Some people read that as a shot at the front office.
18:52Others just looked at it and said, yeah, man, it's reality like you just said.
18:56Is this a better team than it was a year ago?
19:00I think I think it's scary because it is.
19:03But when you don't have depth, I think as a coach, you're kind of scared every single day.
19:09And I think that's why we didn't see any of those Patriots starters at all.
19:14Like they even had, you know, Elijah Ponder, who's a second year player who they're looking to on the defensive line to have a big year.
19:22He didn't play a snap in the preseason because they just felt like we're one or two injuries away from our team being drastically different.
19:30But Vrabel said something to us that I thought was very unique.
19:34He said the road to success is always under construction.
19:37And he kept telling us this team is all about continuing to build who they are, build how much better they want
19:44to get, build their culture, build their identity. So when you look at this team, that's what the offseason looked like.
19:51Now the thing is, how can you stay healthy?
19:54And then how can you take some of those guys that are debt pieces and build so that if they get called
20:01upon maybe midway through the season, now they're actually ready to go?
20:05One of those guys is A.J. Brown. Devin, let's not sugarcoat it.
20:09The Patriots offense was dominated by the Seahawks defense in that Super Bowl.
20:13How does A.J. change that tomorrow night? For one, he was walking around that building, smiling ear to ear, you know, going up to him, talking to him.
20:22The fit has been awesome. He's excited to be there.
20:26And then, you know, even talking to some of the guys, I think the cool thing is we're going to see A.J.
20:33Brown in spots that I would say historically we haven't always seen him.
20:37He's seen as an ex-receiver, always on the outside.
20:40When you play in a Josh McDaniels offense, they're going to move him around a little bit.
20:45They're going to do different things to get him the ball.
20:49And I think he's excited about that. And I think what they love the most is they really like Romeo Dobbs.
20:56They like Pop Douglas. They like some of those other guys that they know having an A.J.
21:01Brown is going to make everybody else's job easier.
21:04And they're going to design things in a way to get people the ball and their favorable matchups are where they like it the most.
21:12So it should be an exciting offense to watch.
21:15That's interesting because when they did the joint practice, the Patriots with the Eagles, all the viral videos was him running nines, him just running straight downfield.
21:24And traditionally, it's A.J. Brown going straight downfield or that slant playing bully ball over the middle.
21:30He still has that club in his bag. But you really think we're going to see him inside a lot?
21:36Not a lot. But I think I always think back to when Randy Moss got to New England.
21:42And, you know, I used to have conversations with Bill Belichick.
21:45And teams doubled Randy Moss every single play. They went too high safety.
21:50And I remember being in training camp my rookie year.
21:53And they would line Randy Moss up. And he would be to a single side.
21:58But he'd be really close to the tackle. And then someone would motion over.
22:02And he would end up in the slot. And they kind of disguised it and put him in the slot.
22:09And then he was able to do some of the things that was his strength, taking control of the middle of the field, running deep.
22:17So I think A.J. Brown, yes, he's going to be on the outside.
22:21He's going to be running those skinny posts, those slants.
22:24But at different times, they're going to put him at places on the field.
22:29And I think they're going to disguise it, do things a little different.
22:33And then he's going to end up in a spot that's going to be similar for him.
22:39But the defense is going to look at it and say, man, he's actually in the slot this time.
22:45I think that's how you keep guys happy. That's how you get your best players the ball where they can be dangerous.
22:52And I think they're going to do that a little bit with A.J.
22:56Brown. Interesting. All right, let's get to the Seahawks here.
22:59And kind of doubling back to that Rams question, you heard the hype last week when Aaron Donald came out of retirement.
23:07Well-deserved, by the way. He's as good as we've ever seen.
23:10But the Seahawks fans have been building this chip on their shoulder for months and months and months now.
23:16Devin, do you think the defending Super Bowl champion is still the best team in the NFL?
23:22Yeah. So someone knocks them off. But you got to remember, the NFL, it's a different year every single year.
23:28And the number one team from a year ago, you don't automatically get to be the number one team.
23:35But when there's no games being played and we're ready to crown people because of paper, then to me, that doesn't really matter.
23:42And I think for the Seahawks, it's going out there and doing it.
23:46And, you know, watching Mike McDonald throw out hard enough.
23:49That's what they are. That's who they believe. So when they see, you know, everything the Rams are doing or other teams
23:57on paper, I think it just builds into who they are of.
24:00We don't care about that. We care about going out there and performing.
24:05So they have every right to feel disrespected. And there's no doubt in my mind that this team's ready to go.
24:11They're ready to go and try to win that division again.
24:15Again, everyone's excited about the Rams. And rightfully so.
24:18There's a lot of great players over there. But this team, the Seattle, the Seahawks have built and the core guys that
24:25they have there, they have the confidence. And they should have the confidence that they can go and still win this division.
24:32It's going to be one of the best things to follow.
24:36So these two teams play at the end of the year.
24:39I think it's like week 15 and week 18 or something.
24:43So we'll have to wait all season to get the matchup.
24:47But then we'll get them a couple weeks apart.
24:49And I think that will be the battle not only for that division, but that'll be the battle for the number one seed in the NFC.
24:58Devin McCourty, safe travel, sir. Can't wait to see you in the kickoff opener coming up tomorrow.
25:03Appreciate it, man. Good to see you. Coming up on the NFL Report, he's not number one.
25:09Where is Patrick Mahomes, however, in Nick Shook's about-to-drop quarterback index?
25:13Nick will tell you. And who is number one?

25:38NFL Report, Andrew Siciliano, Nick Shook. Nick, by the way, tomorrow dropping on NFL.com.
25:43His QB index, he ranks them all 1 to 32.
25:46He's got Josh Allen, number one, and Stafford, number two, and Mahomes, number three.
25:51Let's skip all the way down. Where's Lamar Jackson?
25:54Oh, boy. Lamar Jackson's number eight. Here's Lamar on the podium.
25:57I believe we have a lot in store, you know, new season.
26:01I feel like a new breath of fresh air.
26:04I feel like my guys are just ready to get out there and just start flying.
26:09What excites you about this offense that maybe hasn't in the past?
26:13From what I see, it's a lot of moving parts.
26:16We can put guys in different positions to win.
26:19I feel like the success rate should be high.
26:22That's what I'm expecting, but, you know, we'll see.
26:25Lamar Jackson said he loves Declan Doyle's new offense.
26:28And potentially here, a guy that's won a couple of MVPs.
26:32Todd Munkin has now moved on to Cleveland. Lamar could take this offense to potentially another level.
26:37Tell me why you like him as number eight.
26:40We already know what he brings to the table as a dual threat quarterback.
26:45What he's really become is more of a passing guy in the last few years.
26:50But what he's struggled with is to stay healthy.
26:52And so the big question for him that he has to answer is, can you play a full season?
26:59Then how do you adapt to Declan Doyle's offense?
27:02It comes from the Ben Johnson tree, so it makes you start to think, okay, well, maybe there's pre-snap motion.
27:08There's all sorts of moving parts, all sorts of misdirection that then can free up Lamar Jackson.
27:14We also cannot forget the fact that Derrick Henry is in this backfield and that they have plenty of weapons around him.
27:21So he starts at eight because I'm a little bit concerned about how he's going to adjust to the offense just because
27:28we haven't seen it at the start of the season.
27:31But I think he's an easy candidate to climb very quickly.
27:35All right. So Lamar is eight. I want to double back to Patrick Mahomes if we could here.
27:40Let's put a button on that because we teased it.
27:44You have Mahomes number three coming off an injury like when Rosenthal was on last week.
27:49He picked the Chiefs to win. I'm like, you're picking a team with Patrick Mahomes.
27:54Like, big deal. Well done out of you. Mahomes is still, though, in the top five, I guess, is the point I'm getting.
28:01Yes. And this is really just a demonstration of my immense respect for Patrick Mahomes and what he's done over the course of his career.
28:09It hasn't been the same over the last few years.
28:13It's been more of, well, instead of throwing the ball deep downfield to Tyreek Hill and other explosive players, it's finding ways to move the chains.
28:21And a lot of that comes down to his mobility, his ability to extend plays.
28:26And that's the really big question mark going into this season because he's coming off of the ACL.
28:32Now, as we heard Andy Reid say earlier, he's moving around like normal and the beat reporters have all seen it and they understand that that's what's coming.
28:41But they've played a lot of this very close to the vest.
28:45And so we haven't really, from a general perspective, seen exactly who he can be.
28:50But he starts here because of what he's done over the course of his career, how much I believe in him.
28:56And I think that he'll be able to get back to what he was before.
29:01For the record, you're number 32 quarterback? Deshaun Watson.
29:04Deshaun Watson. Yes. The Nick Schuch quarterback index dropping tomorrow on NFL.com.
29:08Go read it. Ladies and gentlemen, we ask you kindly.
29:11Thank you, Nick. Let's get some other news from around the NFL.
29:15Let's do some quick hits for you. Speaking of quarterbacks, Fernando Mendoza is QB 2 in Vegas.
29:21That is official now because, remember, Clint Kubiak had been somewhat coy as to who would back up Kirk Cousins.
29:27The depth chart is out. It's Mendoza 2. And then number 3 is Aiden O'Connell.
29:32Jerry, the owner of the Cowboys, did his Tuesday radio spot today.
29:36They freed up some cap space recently, roughly $19 million, by redoing some deals.
29:41Why, Jerry, would you do that? We could use it for this year's team, but that thing is a fungible, the cap's
29:48fungible, and it laps over into multi-years at least two, conceivably three or four, on parts of any money you make available.
29:55Now, I know that's hard to put your finger on, but it is hard to put your finger on.
30:01But that does show that we have really viable, serious room financially to make a trade if we wanted to right now.
30:08Jerry Jones on his Tuesday radio spot. Meantime in New York, Aaron Glenn says, Brees Hall, who's been out for a little
30:15bit with a groin injury, is trending towards playing Sunday.
30:19If he does not go, it will be Braylon Allen, as running back one in the Robert Sala grudge match.
30:25Is Jeremiah Love RB1 in Arizona? Mike LaFleur says he feels good about the third overall pick playing Sunday against the Chargers.
30:32However, the Cardinals depth chart, if you care about depth charts, lists both Love and Tyler Algier as co-RB1s.
30:38That's going to do it for us. This is the NFL Report.
