1:13After a win with their third-string quarterback, the Bears taking their time announcing a starter for Sunday now that their backup is available.
1:20Will it be Case Keenum or Tyson Bajan? Maybe we find out.
1:24After missing two weeks, Puka Nakua is set to return for the Rams, and the NFL returns to London Colts Commanders on Sunday.
1:32Our Hall of Fame quarterback reports on this show.
1:35Hey, everybody. Welcome to a Friday edition of the NFL: The Insiders.
1:39Patrick Claibon here with NFL Network Insider Ian Rappaport, Judy Batista, and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN all with us as we look
1:46forward to a great remainder of Week 4, starting with what's new today.
1:51Coming into the NFL LA Newsroom, the Chicago Bears got a win with their backup quarterback, Case Keenum, on Monday night.
1:58But now that their regular backup, Tyson Bajan, has cleared the league's concussion protocol, head coach Ben Johnson yet to name a starter.
2:05We do know Caleb Williams has been ruled out.
2:08But coach, who is your starting quarterback going to be against the Jets?
2:13First question, who's starting a quarterback on Sunday and follow-up?
2:16Come on. We'll find out on Sunday. Are you guys ruling Caleb out this week?
2:21No. No? No. Is it realistic that he could play?
2:24You said ruling him out this week. Yeah, ruling out the other Sunday.
2:28He's out this week. Yeah. Okay. I thought you said, is he going to be out there this week?
2:35No, no, no. Yeah. So you're deciding this week?
2:38He will be out. Yep. Thank you. You are deciding between him and, I mean, between Bajan and Keenum.
2:44And then let me throw Miller Moss into the mix, too.
2:48Miller Moss. Anybody else? I mean, Teddy Bridgewater, are you going to call him?
2:52Never know. Yeah. What insight would that? I know that you don't want to tell us anything helpful to us.
2:59But can you give us some insight into how you think about a decision like this?
3:04No. I mean, honestly, I feel really good about the whole room.
3:08And so I don't know that there's a bad choice or a wrong choice.
3:13So we're very, very fortunate that we've got guys that we believe in.
3:17The whole team believes. It's not just the coaching staff.
3:20The whole team believes in everybody in that room.
3:23And so, no, it's one of those things that you can't go wrong.
3:28You just want to make sure you're doing right by all the guys on the team, and you're putting yourself in the
3:35best chance to win the ball game. So, no, I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like on Sunday.
3:42Ian, that's the difference that a win makes with your backup quarterback.
3:46A jovial and fun availability for the head coach.
3:49We still didn't necessarily find out who the starting quarterback is going to be.
3:53I did appreciate the way the reporter asked, knowing what the first answer was going to be, trying for that second one of, come on, come on.
4:02So here's where the Bears quarterback situation stands. They mentioned, Ben Johnson mentioned, Caleb Williams is going to be out this week,
4:09missing his second game with a grade two hamstring injury.
4:13And we have Tyson Bajan coming back from a concussion.
4:16My understanding is that Tyson Bajan took the majority of the first team reps at practice this week.
4:22While Ben Johnson is not yet named a starter, expectation is that the backup quarterback, Tyson Bajan, is the starter on Sunday.
4:29He has not yet made it official. Surely in case Keenum would still be in the mix, especially after the heroics of last week.
4:37But it certainly seems like the direction they were going is going to be Tyson Bajan.
4:43And if you're wondering why, Ben Johnson actually gave this to us early in the week.
4:48As he was getting on in his press comments very late after the game, he mentioned Tyson Bajan won the backup job out of camp.
4:56And there is a reason for that. They believe in him.
5:00They believe in the direction he can take the offense.
5:03They have also paid him, Jeremy. That is why this makes sense.
5:07We'll see what the Bears end up doing. But all signs point to Tyson Bajan getting the start this week for Chicago.
5:14Yeah, and Ben Johnson is clearly having fun with all the angles that he's playing publicly.
5:20And why not? He's one of the best play callers in the league.
5:24And he can show in back-to-back weeks that he can put together game plans for different quarterbacks to thrive.
5:30Last week it was 38-year-old Case Keenum who was dicing up what's supposed to be a good Eagles defense.
5:37And then this week he can go with Bajan, a quarterback they're really high on in the building, undrafted player out of
5:44Shefford years ago that has worked his way into what Johnson calls one of the 32 best quarterbacks in the entire NFL.
5:51So this is Johnson's chance to show that. But look, he said, hey, I could ride the hot hand with Case Keenum
5:58or I can go with my QB2. He's mentioned that specifically about Bajan.
6:03So hints either way. But to your point, it looks like it's going to be Bajan and it should be fun to watch.
6:10Whichever quarterback the New York Jets are facing, they are going to have to lean hard on their defense to hold the
6:18scoring down because the Jets offense is really banged up.
6:21The injury report is out and it is long and it's littered with very recognizable names.
6:26Let's start with running back Brees Hall with an injured quad.
6:30He is out. A.D. Mitchell, the wide receiver, he is out.
6:34That leaves them really thin behind Garrett Wilson, the number one wide receiver.
6:38Tight end Mason Taylor. He is also out. An offensive lineman is out.
6:42So the offense, which has worked so well with Geno Smith, he's been playing terrifically, but he's not going to have many of his top weapons.
6:51So they are going to have to lean on the defense.
6:54And there is a bit of good news for the defense.
6:58Safety Minka Fitzpatrick, who injured his groin early in week one and hasn't played since.
7:03He practiced fully today. He is off the injury report.
7:06He has no game designation. So he is good to go for Sunday.
7:11That is a big boost for a defense that, again, the Jets are really going to have to lean on to hold down that high-powered offense in Chicago.
7:20Yeah, a lot of injury updates here on this week for us.
7:24We've got a pretty big game between two teams that have played in some classics.
7:29The Eagles and the Rams. Puka Nakua will play.
7:32He's missed the past two weeks for the Rams with a hip injury.
7:36So they will get Puka Nakua back. They will not have Aaron Donald out with a back injury against those Philadelphia Eagles.
7:43So no A.D. But Puka returns in Rappaport. What can you tell us about Aaron Donald's injury that's keeping him out of this game against Philly?
7:52Yeah, he is going to miss this game with a back injury.
7:56He was not able to practice this week. My understanding is it is a relatively minor back injury for Aaron Donald.
8:03I wouldn't say it's precautionary because it's a real thing.
8:06But really what the team wants to do is sit him out now with the hopes of healing this for the long term.
8:14Sort of similar to what we've said for Myles Garrett, who is on IR after having knee surgery.
8:20The reason you sign Aaron Donald is for December and January, not for October, which it is right now.
8:26Somehow it's October. As far as the money, Aaron Donald actually is protected by this as well.
8:32He's got a lot of per-game bonuses, about $10 million in his contract.
8:36But it's not 46-man bonuses. It's actually 53-man bonuses.
8:39So Aaron Donald does get his $66,600,000 this week.
8:42He gets a maximum of $10 million this season.
8:45He's on the 53-man roster for 15 weeks. So Aaron Donald still cashes in, even though he's not going to play.
8:52Yeah, as you mentioned, Ian, the month playing into this is going into January and February when they'd like to have Aaron
8:59Donald, where these teams have met a couple of times, including the playoffs.
9:04But for the Rams, they've lost four straight to the Eagles, one and six in the last seven games.
9:10Some of those one-score games, something Nick Sirianni remembers well.
9:13How many of those games that we've played against the Rams, they could go either way.
9:18I mean, particularly last year. You know, particularly the NFC divisional game.
9:22I know that. I can't think back too much further than that.
9:26But the, you know, just again, so much respect there.
9:30You know, we've played good games. We've played good halves.
9:33You know, in those situations. And, you know, again, all those games can go either way.
9:38And I can't tell you how much respect I have for those guys over there, the players and their coaches.
9:45Obviously, Stafford's a heck of a quarterback. They've got really good playmakers all over the place.
9:50And I think the world of Sean and all his coaches.
9:54Well, they're going to have to do some coaching in Philadelphia because a lot of notable Eagles ruled out, including two of their top targets.
10:02Dallas Goddard already missed last week. But Devonta Smith out with a hamstring injury.
10:07Zach Bond out with a concussion. Big contributors on both sides of the ball.
10:11But let's talk about this injury to Smith, Jeremy.
10:14Because they're going to have to go somewhere with the football.
10:18Yeah, and they want to go to Makai Lemon.
10:21They want to get him more involved. He's hopeful for that.
10:25The team is hopeful for that. It hasn't been all that smooth.
10:29Just seven catches for 38 yards on nine targets.
10:32And last week against Chicago, he was open in the middle of the field at times.
10:37Jalen Hurts missed him. But here's the thing. This Devonta Smith hamstring issue, he's out this week, didn't practice at all.
10:44This could linger into next week as well. He could be looking at a multiple-week absence for their star receiver.
10:51So that is a perfect entry point for Lemon to get involved.
10:55And the issue partly is that in training camp, he had the hamstring issue.
10:59So he was out for most of it. Well, Hurts created a chemistry with Dontavian Wicks, who was added in the offseason.
11:06That put Lemon on the back burner a little bit.
11:10They're hoping to get him going now. Yeah, that would be the time with this big matchup coming up against the Los
11:17Angeles Rams, who just had a close game with the Denver Broncos, who take on the 49ers, who are dealing with injury issues of their own.
11:26Mike Evans is questionable with a rib injury. We saw him leave the game last week.
11:31On the other side of the football, Drake Greenlaw, who the 49ers just got back.
11:36He is questionable with a quad injury. And the big, literally the biggest injury for the 49ers is star tackle Trent Williams, who is questionable with a stinger.
11:45Just get a look at the on-off splits for one Trent Williams.
11:4965-33 with them, 4-13 without Trent since 2020. They score almost seven more points per game when Trent Williams is able to be in the game.
11:58And that's the 49ers' offense. But the Broncos' offense has seen some improvements since week one.
12:03Starting to get worried about Davis Webb and Sean Payton maybe taking the headset back.
12:08They've had some growth since then. Yeah, Patrick, the Broncos have settled in with Davis Webb as their primary play caller after
12:15that ugly week one, just 10 points against Kansas City.
12:19I'm told an interesting thing happened that week with Payton.
12:22He was super positive with his staff and with Webb in particular behind the scenes that week with his team and with his coaches.
12:30He was awesome, a source told me, in that building where it could have gone the other way if there was that sort of lack of momentum.
12:39But they stuck with it. They said, look, this is a long ride.
12:43We believe in you. Since then, 50 points the last two weeks, mostly in the second half.
12:49They want to get more of a complete game going.
12:52They want to get that running game going a little more, just 3.6 yards per carry.
12:57But it seems like Denver, with Webb and Payton on looking, is an offense now on the rise.
13:03I want to talk, Jeremy, about the other side of the ball when the Denver Broncos are on defense.
13:10And we know they are missing Jonathan Cooper on the commissioner's exempt list.
13:14Really have struggled to get after the quarterback toward the bottom of the league in sacks.
13:19And as good as Vance Joseph's defense has been, and it has been one of the best in the NFL for the
13:27last several years, if you're not getting the quarterback, it makes things extremely, extremely tough.
13:32You couple that with the fact that the 49ers don't allow any sacks ever.
13:36Yes, if Trent Mullins is out there, that would help immensely.
13:40One of the best left tackles of his time, a future Hall of Famer and all of that.
13:46They have allowed a grand total of zero sacks of Brock Purdy.
13:50If that continues, it is going to be a very, very long day with this Denver Broncos defense.
13:56Wouldn't be surprised they tried a couple artificial measures just to get some sort of pressure.
14:01Get Purdy off of his spot, but that is a matchup that we're going to be keeping an eye on.
14:08Elsewhere in Santa Clara, 49ers owner Jed York has been suspended for six games, fined a half million dollars for violating the
14:15league's personal conduct policy after an August arrest in Ohio for disorderly conduct among other charges.
14:20He's been absent for three games already, meaning he'll be eligible to be back in Levi's Stadium October 19th.
14:27The NFL returns to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday in London for Colts and Commanders.
14:32What can the Colts do to return to the hot start they had in 2025?

18:26Welcome back to the Insiders. A fun day Sunday here on NFL Network, starting with Game Day Live after the game at 1 o'clock Eastern.
18:35Game Day highlights at 7.30 p.m. Eastern. And wrap it all up for a full day of NFL coverage on Game Day Final at 11.30 p.m.
18:43Eastern. Sunday on NFL Network, also streaming on the ESPN app.
18:47Week 4, laden with big injuries, starting with Jayden Daniels, will be out for that game for the Washington Commanders.
18:54It'll be Jay Lundaniels starting in place of Baker Mayfield, who's out with a thumb injury for the Buccaneers.
19:00Brees Hall, Travis E. Chen going to IR as E.
19:03Chen. As Devonta Smith, we already told you, was out.
19:06Nico Collins will play. And a big injury for the Patriots.
19:10Christian Gonzalez is out for the game against the Buffalo Bills.
19:14Here's how the week started. The Steelers visiting the Cleveland Browns.
19:17Deshaun Watson making his second start at home. First quarter for the Steelers on offense as Aaron Rodgers frustrated over at the sideline.
19:25Wanted to play call in. Mike McCarthy's like, I've worked with this guy before.
19:30He gets like that sometimes. We're fine, everybody. Play action.
19:33Rodgers with time. Wines up throwing it over Ben Skoranek's head.
19:37Now he's confused. Aaron's got his typical reaction shots.
19:40That was the type of start that it was, but the Steelers would come back in the fourth quarter.
19:46Rodgers rolling. Has fire move for a touchdown as he throws the crowd into making more noise.
19:52So it's 24 apiece inside a minute. Last chance for the Browns.
19:55It's a crosser to Jerry Judy. There were a couple of catches by Jerry Judy on this drive.
20:01Gets the first down there. Sets up Andre Smith from 56.
20:05Would have been good from 60. That's in the net.
20:08And the Steelers fall in Cleveland 27-24. They're strong.
20:11They did a big deal. Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts and Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders travel to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for an international showdown.
20:20Catch it all Sunday, 9.30 a.m. Eastern on NFL Network, now also streaming on the ESPN app.
20:26Commanders quarterback, Jayden Daniels, did actually make the trip to London.
20:30He was at practice Thursday with that large brace on his left elbow that he's dislocated three times in the past year.
20:37It'll be Marcus Mariota once again for the Commanders.
20:40Molly McGrath and Kurt Warner from London. Welcome to the English countryside where the Commanders have set up shop ahead of their
20:47game against the Colts this Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
20:50And Kurt, both of these teams taking very different approaches to their travel this week.
20:55The Commanders have called this property home since Tuesday, whereas the Colts flew in on Friday morning.
21:01But both of these teams coming off of their first win of the season, what do they need to do to keep that momentum going?
21:09Well, starting 0-2, it's when it starts to panic a little bit in the locker room.
21:15Say, we can't go 0-3. So both of these teams getting a win last week was huge.
21:20The Colts, they had lost nine straight football games.
21:23And so you could just feel that weight on this team and how it was lifted with the way that they won last week.
21:31A come-from-behind win, Daniel Jones leading them after a couple turnovers earlier in the game.
21:36And then on the other side, to me, with Washington, it was about the turnovers.
21:41First two weeks of the season, zero turnovers for them defensively.
21:45They got three last week against the Super Bowl champs.
21:48Maybe that breaks the seal for them to be able to move forward, create more turnovers.
21:53That's always been the calling card for a Dan Quinn football team.
21:57And both these teams want to get a huge win on Sunday to get right back into their divisions.
22:04Yeah, Colts Commanders kicks off at 9.30 a.m. Eastern on Sunday on NFL Network with coverage beginning at 7 a.m.
22:10Eastern. Thanks, guys. We love an early kick. And Daniel Jones loved that early start to last season where he had 9.3 yards per attempt.
22:19He was only hit 10 times. And then we juxtapose that with the start of this season where he's been hit 20 times.
22:26He's got three touchdowns and five turnovers. And he's nine months back from a torn Achilles as we look to hopefully some improvement for dimes.
22:34Again, that recovery time probably key in that. But they would like to improve some things on offense, Judy.
22:41Yeah. I mean, a big part of the Colts' slower start this season is that Daniel Jones himself has started slower.
22:48And certainly coming off an Achilles injury, the fact that he was back for the start of the season is a victory in and of itself.
22:56But you have to imagine that that is impacting his play.
23:00You saw on that chart, the number of sacks he has taken has tripled from last year, from two to six at this time this year.
23:09And the number of hits he's taken has doubled.
23:12He's gotten hit 20 times already. So not surprisingly, he is off in pretty much every category.
23:17Last year, he was completing 72% of his passes.
23:20Now he's down to 66 yards per game is way down.
23:24The good news for the Colts here is that the commanders have had a lot of trouble defending the pass and a lot of trouble rushing the passer.
23:33They can keep Daniel Jones upright. He may be able to pick apart that secondary.
23:38Looking forward to that game of intra-conference. This one, all AFC between the Jags and the Bengals.
23:44If you look at the most offensive touchdowns in their last 20 games on the field, Joe Burrows ahead of everybody but Matthew Stafford.
23:52But right there, Trevor Lawrence with 45 touchdowns as we get to see two quarterbacks playing at a high level.
23:58The Bengals are going to have to try to keep pace with the Cleveland Browns at this point.
24:04There's been a lot of discussion this year about the Cincinnati Bengals' resurgent defense and how important they've been in keeping out
24:12gold and how they've added to all these guys on the defensive side of the ball in Cincinnati.
24:18And that is all true. They've actually created turnovers.
24:21And unlike last year, they are not a weakness.
24:23This is all a great storyline. But what the Cincinnati Bengals need to happen is really the thing that they need to
24:31do to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars who are a little bit of an offensive juggernaut themselves.
24:36They need Joe Burrow to play like the Joe Burrow of old.
24:40The Joe Burrow that basically was decorating the scoring book or the record book or whatever we just showed there.
24:47We need Burrow to play like himself. Some good, some bad.
24:50He's kind of right in the middle of a bunch of statistical categories while the defense has made sure that these guys are in it all the time.
25:00If the Bengals are going to be the playoff team that they probably should be, if they're going to beat a really,
25:07really good, sound, talented football team like the Jaguars, because that's where the Jaguars are, then Burrow needs to be himself.
25:14A lot of times he kind of waits just to see what's what.
25:18It is time. I'm interested to see what performance he puts on the field.
25:23They're coming off that loss. One team that does not have a loss this season, the Las Vegas Raiders.
25:29They're unbeaten. They have multiple players leading the entire NFL in key statistical categories.
25:34How long does this last and how are they doing it?
25:37We look at the Chiefs Raiders coming up next on the inside.
25:41I've been a bunch of guys. How many ever did you get?
25:45Caught by Kelsey. Touchdown. He goes to the corner.
25:48And he brings it in to the kingdom. One spot, one go.
25:52We set the trend. Considering where the Raiders were at the end of last season, this border's on inexplicable, but here we
26:00are for first place in the West. Inexplicable for everyone except if you were in the Las Vegas Raiders building.
26:06You know, if you visit them in training camp and I spent some time there, there was a lot of, you know,
26:13we're going to be better than people think, just so you know it.
26:18He drafted really well. The quarterback plays well. There was a lot of that.
26:22And we are really seeing it all play out.
26:25And for the Las Vegas Raiders, who have seemed to be in rebuilding mode for the last, oh, I don't know, five
26:33or so years, here's what they have seen. See the young players play well.
26:37They've seen last year's young players who were not good come in and play really, really well.
26:43And Kirk Cousins has been everything they had hoped.
26:46And suddenly, they're 3-0 with the chance to do something they have not done since 2002, which is beat the Chiefs and go to the playoffs.
26:55It is crazy to think about. This might be the biggest Raiders game in two decades.
27:00They are here for it. We have not had any discussion of if Fernando Mendoza is going to play it, because why would he?
27:08It has been all about Max Crosby and this nasty Raiders defense.
27:12Kirk Cousins keeping this offensive afloat, and it has all been positive in a rare sense for the Raiders, Jeremy.
27:18Yeah, Ian, I've asked some people with some rival teams around the league, evaluators, do the Raiders have a sustainable offense here?
27:26Because so far, it looks good under Clint Kubiak.
27:29They say yes, he probably does, because they have a running game.
27:33They got a 50-50 split run pass right now with Ashton Gentry, with an offensive line that's improved, maybe not elite, but good enough.
27:41You got Brock Bowers, who might be one of the best playmakers on the planet.
27:46Tight end, receiver, doesn't matter. The one area where they're short is the pure wide receiver spot.
27:51Did they maybe make a move at the deadline?
27:54This was supposed to be sort of a transitional year.
27:57Like you said, Ian, sneaky, better than people think, but maybe not quite contention worthy yet.
28:03I don't think they want to give up the draft capital to do that, but they know they got a team and
28:10they got something rolling here and their winning is infectious.
28:13But talking to people with the Raiders, they knew they had to start hot and get to where they are now because the gauntlet is coming.
28:22It's Chiefs at Patriots, at Bills, or excuse me, Bills at home and then Rams at home.
28:28So the next four games are going to be absolutely brutal for the Raiders, but it's going to test their mettle.
28:35Looking forward to that one on Sunday. You can talk about sustainability.
28:39What's the shelf life on sustainability? Look at the AFC representative in the Super Bowl.
28:44The New England Patriots on this graphic of the fewest points through three games for anybody that had a chance to play
28:51in the big game, trailing the 2007 Bears, only with 33.
28:54As we see, Drake May had that interception last week.
28:58He's listed with a shoulder injury earlier in the week.
29:01It was a full participant in practice later on in the week.
29:05His head coach, Mike Vrabel, ahead of the Patriots game against the Bills, says the shoulder is not the issue.
29:12The fact that I think that it's a quarterback, I think that those things get looked at very closely.
29:18So again, we want to make sure that we're transparent.
29:21And so we listed him on the injury report after he went through the normal game day protocol post-game, and then we
29:29put on the reps that he missed, which was none.
29:32There was no limitations, so he practiced full. Didn't miss any reps, but we just felt like it was best to list
29:39it, just to make sure that we're doing everything that we're supposed to do from a protocol standpoint.
29:45Jeremy, from a clean pocket last year, Drake May had a passer rating of 118.
29:50Now it's in the 60s. If it's not the shoulder, what are the Patriots going to do?
29:56Well, simplifying the offense this week has been a topic of conversation in New England.
30:01Head coach Mike Vrabel said earlier in the week, do we need to just do a little bit less and do it better?
30:08Josh McDaniel's scheme is known as pretty complex for young players.
30:12I did text with somebody from New England just now who pushed back on that notion, though.
30:18They said, look, May handled a great last year, second MVP voting.
30:22He's really comfortable with this offense. It really comes down to poor decision-making right now, so that's the issue.
30:28So it's a combination of confidence, lack of good footwork, all those things.
30:32They're just really trying to get back to the basics with May, who's a proven commodity, but last seven games dating back
30:39to the playoffs have been pretty ugly. Seven touchdowns to ten interceptions.
30:43And if you want to look at the other side of this, the Buffalo Bills are 3-0 and are really good, but
30:51did so last week where turning the ball over five times is crazy.
30:55Josh Allen's saying he felt like he was grateful, like it was a dream, I believe, was his words, that they were
31:02just 10-10 at halftime with the Los Angeles Chargers.
31:05And if the Bills are going to come in and go 4-0 and make the Patriots earn it, they're going to have
31:13to do it without turning the ball over like they did.
31:16They know that this is not something they can do every week.
31:20Taking care of new football has been, Paramount has been a big topic of discussion inside the Bills building this week.
31:27This is not a team that wants to squeak by this team, that wants to make sure their opponent has to actually beat them.
31:35So that is going to be a priority this week against New England.
31:39Also this week, we get our first chance to see Derrick Henry take on his former franchise.
31:45This is the first time he's role-played Tennessee Titans since he arrived in Baltimore before that 2024 season.
31:51Here's some historical perspective on what he was able to accomplish in Nashville.
31:55The list of guys with 9,000 rushing yards and 90 rush touchdowns, there's a lot of Hall of Famers on this list.
32:03I have to imagine the King will be in contention for that at some point, but he's still playing, Ian.
32:09And right now he's got more yards before contact than after contact.
32:13He's got that going up against his whole squad.
32:16You know, I remember when the Baltimore Ravens gave Derrick Henry another contract extension.
32:21I believe it was the last offseason. And it was a great deal.
32:25He got a lot of money. And I was like, how long do they think he's going to play?
32:31And the answer is probably however long he wants.
32:34Because what Derrick Henry's career has been is he just gets to do whatever he wants all the time, whether it's running
32:42over people, whether it's running by people, whether it's going from the Tennessee Titans, which he had a great start of his
32:49career to it, a team that had coveted him for several years.
32:53In the Baltimore Ravens, a team that has a chance to do everything that any NFL team could want.
32:59And he could simply just keep doing it. So Derrick Henry is climbing the NFL's record books and touchdowns.
33:06He is doing that as far as this season goes.
33:09And I would say this, the first person to tell Derrick Henry that he can't do something and for him to listen would be, you know, the first.
33:18Yeah, Ian, the Tennessee Titans could use their old friend Derrick Henry right now because they can't score, which puts the panic
33:25meter at the QB spot on Cam Ward a little bit.
33:293-17 as a starter. Couldn't get it done last week.
33:32Begs the question, how long does Tennessee stick with Cam Ward?
33:36Well, talking to people there, they want to be patient.
33:39They knew that this could be a little rocky early on, breaking in a new system with O.C.
33:45Brian Dayball. He's basically had a new coordinator every year for a while now, dating back to college.
33:51They feel like he doesn't turn it over. He can be accurate.
33:55It's just the decision-making has not been great. The accuracy at times has been waning.
34:00So they want to clean that up. They're just hopeful week by week it can stack good days.
34:06But as we know, when the public pressure starts to mount a little bit, the fans might turn on the player.
34:13The locker room gets frustrated. There are a lot of factors that the front office and the coaching staff is going to have to weigh.
34:21But for now, they do want to stick with Cam Ward.
34:25Speaking of a front office, the Dallas Cowboys making another trade for a defensive player as Joey Porter Jr.
34:31makes his season and Cowboys debut this weekend. Jane Slater joins us coming up next on The Insights.

38:30It didn't get done. It didn't happen. That's really just old news for me now.
38:35We're not going to play this game anymore. Joey Porter Jr.
38:39heading to the Cowboys. Get this team better. Make another move.
38:43They've now done that to help a depleted secondary and try to improve their team now.
38:48Joey Porter Jr.'s contract dispute with the Steelers ultimately leads to a spot in the Dallas Cowboys secondary.
38:54A 2028 second-round pick, a 2027 sixth in the compensation.
38:57His new head coach on his new corner and the plan for his new corner.
39:02Let's be honest. I haven't in my 25 years been around a secondary that's been more plagued with some of the injuries.
39:10And so you have two choices. You can not play somebody and do what you want to do, but maybe one of
39:17your better players is sitting on the bench or you play him and you adjust.
39:22I think that's kind of what we do as coaches.
39:25We adjust and our job is to maximize the players that we have.
39:29And adding Joey Porter Jr. gives us a really talented young man that, like I said, is working really hard to get out there.
39:37Jane Slater with us now on the Insiders. Good afternoon to you, Jane.
39:42As we've seen three days since the trade where Joey Porter Jr.
39:46comes over, the Cowboys hope he can give them a boost.
39:49How's it looking so far? Well, listening to Brian Schottenheimer this week and even today, it sounds like they like what they see.
39:57And he mentioned all those injuries. They are down two cornerbacks in Savone Revell.
40:02They're missing Kobe Durant and linebacker DeMarvian Overshawn. Look, the challenge here is mastering a new playbook in a matter of days.
40:09But while Schottenheimer won't put a number on those snaps, it sounds like they have packages ready.
40:15And the timing's interesting when you think about it because Nico Collins, he's also working his way back.
40:20Houston has scored, rather, just 23 points within the last two games without him.
40:25And CJ Stroud says they need more explosive plays.
40:28And Porter, he knows his assignment. The last time he stepped on the field in a jersey and played, he traveled with Collins in the playoffs last year.
40:37So Houston may get its big play threat, just as Dallas debuts the corner, that was brought in to really just help eliminate that.
40:45And when you go back to that matchup, I just want to point out, there were seven targets towards Nico, three catches
40:53for 21 yards, and he didn't see the end zone.
40:56So we'll see how this matchup looks. It's what I'm excited about.
41:00That's a fun one on that side. And on the other side, we'll get to see CeeDee Lamb and Derek Stingley Jr.
41:07How does that matchup look like for this big-time game between the Texans and the Cowboys?
41:12You know, it's crazy. When you think of CeeDee Lamb, I think of the big playmaker.
41:18I think of the guy that's in the end zone.
41:21And so I had to double-check my stats, you know, covering this team sometimes, Patrick.
41:26It just all blends together. There's so many storylines, so much drama.
41:30But, you know, he only had three touchdowns last year.
41:33And through three games this season, he's totaling that.
41:36He told me, quote, It's amazing what you can do when you have your whole body.
41:42In other words, he was dealing with a lot of injuries.
41:45And we were playing through them last year, and it showed.
41:49But Derek Stingley Jr., he gave him problems the last time they met.
41:53That was back in 2024. In single coverage, Lamb had just two catches for 19 yards.
41:59Stingley also had an interception and three pass breakups.
42:02Now, the difference now, Lamb is rolling. And when you look at Stingley, he's allowed 164 yards on 13 targets.
42:08That is really uncharacteristic of him. And with Dallas moving George Pickens all over the field, it was interesting when I caught up with Pickens.
42:16I said, Is this the reason why we're seeing such efficiency from Lamb?
42:21And he said, Yeah. But the thing I like about Pickens and where he's at right now, he's fine with that.
42:28All these guys care about is if they win.
42:31And when you talk to Dak Prescott, he said, If you put me versus their guys, I feel really good about this offense.
42:38Yeah, an offense that had to watch the end from the sideline last week.
42:43They got the win. They lost, excuse me, to the Giants earlier this season.
42:48The Giants typically losing without Jackson Dart. One and five since 2025.
42:52They did win that one against the Titans with Jameis Winston as the starting quarterback after the game.
42:57John Harbaugh said, Even if they do bring somebody in, Jameis is the guy.
43:02Well, Judy, here we are. They've brought somebody in.
43:05What's the story with the quarterback circumstance for the Giants?
43:08Well, Jameis is still the guy, at least for this week and probably for the next few weeks while J.J.
43:15McCarthy gets up to speed. But John Harbaugh said it has been a challenge to figure out what their offensive identity is going to be without Jackson Dart.
43:24In the short term, they need to see what Jameis Winston can do operating an offense under normal conditions.
43:31They won last week. It was far from normal conditions.
43:34There was a nor'easter. So it was a very constricted game plan.
43:38This should be normal on Sunday. So they need to see, can he move the ball?
43:43Can he get the team into the end zone?
43:46He's played almost two full games now as the quarterback.
43:49They have not been in the end zone. They are 0 for 4 in the red zone.
43:55So they need to see him operating the offense.
43:58They need to see them scoring and functioning as an offense.
44:02They want to be a run-first offense, no matter who the quarterback is.
44:06But at some point, you're going to need your quarterback to make some plays.
44:11And they need to see if Jameis Winston can do that.
44:14J.J. McCarthy is getting ready in the bullpen. When he is up to speed, we will see if he supplants Jameis Winston.
44:22A lot is going to depend on how Winston is playing and on how that offense is functioning.
44:28Giants coming off of that win. The Chargers coming off of a loss on the road in Buffalo.
44:34They've got some notable injuries, including Derwin James on defense.
44:37Ladd McConkie on offense. Darian Price out with a chest injury for the Seattle Seahawks, who are also coming off of a
44:44loss to the Washington Commanders as Taylor Bishotti joins us here in the NFL LA newsroom.
44:49A rough one for the Chargers where the wins haven't been available.
44:53They've also got injuries. And now the champs are going on the road against the champs who just had a loss themselves.
45:01The good news is it looks like they avoided a big scare injury with Ladd McConkie.
45:06He was seen limping out of the locker room yesterday.
45:09A lot of concern there, but I was at practice earlier today.
45:13He was seen moving around, jogging. He went through a full warm-up routine.
45:18When they broke off and drills happened, he did stand off to the side.
45:22But from what I could tell, he wasn't favoring it.
45:26He didn't seem uncomfortable in any way. And this is a Chargers offense that cannot afford to not have Ladd McConkie on
45:33the field when they're struggling when he is on the field.
45:36Just listen to some of these stats. They're coming off a game where the defense forced five turnovers, and the offense still only managed to score 16 points.
45:46The offense ranks 29th in scoring. They lead the league in pre-snap penalties.
45:50And Herbert has thrown more interceptions on deep passes throughout the first three games than he did in the entirety of last
45:57season, as well as the season before that. So something is not clicking.
46:02I spoke to Chargers receiver Quinton Johnson after practice today, and he said Mike McDaniel's offense is very different.
46:08He compared it to learning a new language. He said he's not surprised that it's taking them time to get acclimated to this new offense.
46:16But he, so I said, are they doing anything different?
46:20The results haven't been there the first three weeks.
46:23He said no. They are not simplifying it. They just need to play better.
46:27McDaniel took full responsibility and accountability for the offensive struggles and said that having three games under his belt with Justin Herbert,
46:34he thinks it allows him to understand what makes Herbert have good plays.
46:39And Patrick, we know that they're going to need a lot of good plays to go into Seattle, into a hostile, loud
46:46environment, and try and get their first win of the season.
46:50Yeah, as the Seahawks just had their longest win streak, longest active win streak in the NFL snapped.
46:56Looking forward to that game. The Green Bay Packers have also seen their offensive production crater this season.
47:02What they've changed this week, and is it going to work?
47:05It's coming up next on The Insight. Looking forward to the Bucs and the Packers, where Jalen Daniels, the rookie backup quarterback,
47:13will be the first undrafted rookie to start week four or earlier in a non-work stoppage season since 1970.
47:19So Baker out with that thumb injury. As we go over to the Green Bay Packers, who've added some veterans on the
47:26offensive line, Kevin Zeitler, Laken Tomlinson, and Mekhi Becton, signed to the practice squad, where, Judy, the Packers have run for 48 yards a game this season.
47:35Normally a prodigious run team. How do they get this fixed?
47:39Yeah, well, that's what those three signings for the offensive line are all about, because the offense has suffered mightily with an
47:46offensive line that just has not been very good.
47:49They've had injuries. They've had some poor play. So three veteran linemen.
47:53It's possible they all play. Kevin Zeitler is the one who arrived last this week, and he was asked today if it's
48:00possible he plays, and he did not say no.
48:03So we could see three new offensive linemen for the Packers.
48:07They need it. They are last in the league in rushing.
48:11Their pass block win rate is the lowest ever recorded through three games, and Jordan Love has been hit 31 times.
48:17That's the most in the league. It's obviously affecting everything they do.
48:21Maybe they catch a little break this week against the Bucs, who, of course, are desperate for a win, but are going
48:29to go without rookie pass rusher Ruben Bain. But they've got to fix the offensive line before they can fix this offense.
48:36Yeah, a couple teams reeling as we get to the Dolphins and the Vikings.
48:41Dolphins taking on the Vikings in Minnesota this weekend.
48:44They're going to have to do that. The Vikings are without star wide receiver Justin Jefferson out with an ankle injury that
48:51caused him to leave that game against the Buccaneers.
48:54So the outlook for Kyler Murray in another one of these full games, except this time, Judy, there's not going to be any Justin Jefferson.
49:02Yeah, and of course, Kyler Murray returned from the concussion last week, but he didn't really play all that well.
49:09This team is being carried very much by his all-world defense.
49:12His completion percentage was around 52%. He only completed 15 passes last week.
49:17So Kyler is still working his way back into it.
49:20It certainly doesn't help that Justin Jefferson is going to be out.
49:24That leaves a hole in a receiving core. That's already been struggling.
49:28They have only 21 receptions and 291 yards. Those receivers, that's near the bottom of the league in both of those categories.
49:35The Dolphins, of course, are struggling in every category on offense and defense.
49:40But again, the Vikings are being led by that defense.
49:43This is an opportunity for Kyler Murray to sort of work his way back into rhythm.
49:48Yeah, we get a chance to look forward to that.
49:52And Sunday night football as well. A couple of number one overall picks in Jared Goff and Bryce Young.
49:58Both teams dealing with a lot of injuries. Injuries that we will update you on when we come back on the inside.
50:0520 years ago, the rebirth of New Orleans' soul following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina started when the St.
50:11Steve Gleason blocked a punt by the Falcons' Michael Caine.
50:15Welcome to New Orleans and welcome to our statue.
50:18I'm very happy our lives emerged 20 years ago.
50:21Look out! Right through! I just had a front row seat to your greatness.
50:25Without this play, what is the legend of Steve Gleason?
50:29If I don't block that punt, I'd be dead.
50:32I'm just another has-been football player. The odds are high that I fade away and die anonymously.
50:37Monday night on ESPN before the Falcons and Saints meet in the Superdome.
50:42Steve Weiss tells us about both men meeting for the first time in years at the statue that commemorates how their lives were brought together forever.
50:50Then Monday night countdown. After that, Monday at 6 p.m.
50:54Eastern ahead of the Falcons and Saints. Monday at 8 on ESPN.
50:57Also streaming on the ESPN app as both the Falcons and the Saints have some hot starts here in 2026.
51:04None hotter, especially on Monday night, than Bajon Robinson.
51:07181 scrimmage yards per game. That's the most in Monday night football history ahead, oddly enough, of Jameer Gibbs, who played against
51:14Jameer Gibbs and the Lions playing the Panthers on Sunday night football.
51:18Bryce Young, a full participant in practice all week.
51:21He will be available for the game. Still no questioning the status of wide receiver Jalen Coker, who was out with a quad injury against the Browns.
51:30He returned to practice, but he is questionable against the Lions on Sunday.
51:35A Lions team that has some injury issues of their own.
51:38Especially on the defensive side of the ball, where they are last in terms of points per game, pass yards per game, and opponents' first downs per game.
51:47Dan Campbell looking at their secondary, where he thought they might have had a chance to get an NFL legacy in a
51:55corner that just got traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
51:58Instead, they've got to figure things out. He's been on it for a while.
52:02You know, that's been ongoing. And, you know, everything's got a line right.
52:07You know, and Cowboys, you know, did what they wanted to do.
52:11But we were very much in on it. What's the desire to still add some help for the secondary at some point?
52:18Just like any year, man, it's nonstop. Like, Brad's constantly looking to upgrade this roster to every position.
52:24If we can find somebody that would feel like fits us and can help us, you know, and the value's right, we will.
52:32So, Judy, there's a lot for both of these teams to figure out because the Detroit Lions have had issues in their secondary.
52:39Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers lose both Mike Jackson and J.C.
52:42Horn against a team that has a pretty good offense.
52:46Yeah, I mean, it's very hard when you lose your starting cornerbacks, no matter who the opponent is.
52:52But the Lions are the only team in the league that has scored at least 30 points in each of the first three games of the season.
53:01So this is a very tough test for the Carolina Panthers.
53:04Oh, and by the way, Jameer Gibbs is also on the Detroit Lions.
53:09And the Carolina run defense is also dreadful. They have allowed 580 yards and 5.7 yards per rush, both worse than the NFL.
53:16And here comes Jameer Gibbs, who's averaging more than 100 yards per game already this season.
53:22So again, very difficult timing for the Carolina Panthers defense.
53:25They're going to be out those starting quarterbacks for quite a few weeks.
53:29It's going to be an uphill climb without them and certainly against an offense like the Detroit Lions.
53:35Very tough test for the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night.
53:38Yeah, looking forward to that game. Looking forward to week four getting going, especially the start of week four with that game
53:46in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that you can see right here on NFL Network.
