Insight page

C.J. Stroud

NegativeUsage13:32

Nate Tice acknowledges CJ Stroud's talent but notes that his playstyle is less focused on the chaotic, off-script play-creation that Tice believes is necessary to exploit the Rams' defensive pressure.

Insight page

NegativeProjection45:15

Mina Kimes mentions Garrett Wilson as a potential candidate for frustration, though she notes her list was based on pure football analysis rather than personality.

Insight page

J.K. Dobbins

NegativeInjury53:31

Mina Kimes notes that while she liked J.K. Dobbins coming out of college, his career has been defined by injuries.

Insight page

Jerry Jeudy

NegativeBust42:35

Mina Kimes suggests Jerry Jeudy as a candidate for frustration, though she admits it is a "cop out" pick because he may not be high-profile enough to be a major story.

Insight page

Jonah Coleman

PositiveSleeper51:43

Mina Kimes and her co-host identify Jonah Coleman as a player who will usurp his starter, citing his pro-readiness, pass protection skills, and decisiveness.

Insight page

Justin Herbert

PositiveProjection24:12

Nate Tice remains highly bullish on Justin Herbert's potential for the upcoming season, despite concerns regarding the Chargers' offensive line and defensive coordinator changes.

Insight page
NegativeUsage47:14

Mina Kimes notes that Justin Herbert has frequently faced immediate pressure, often having three defensive linemen in his lap as soon as he hits his drop.

Insight page

Justin Jefferson

NegativeProjection43:25

Mina Kimes believes Justin Jefferson is unlikely to become disgruntled, noting that he maintained a professional attitude even through a difficult season last year.

Insight page

Ladd McConkey

PositiveBreakout27:11

Nate Tice is high on Ladd McConkey, noting that he has drafted him in every fantasy league he participates in, though he acknowledges the possibility that McConkey might just be 'fine' rather than a breakout star.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

PositiveUsage12:26

Nate Tice notes that Lamar Jackson is uniquely equipped to attack the Rams' defense because he excels at extending plays and making throws on longer dropbacks, which were identified as a weakness for the Rams last season.

Insight page

Malik Nabers

NegativeBust40:01

Mina Kimes highlights Malik Nabers as a candidate to be disgruntled by week 10, citing his emotional personality, the Giants' run-first offensive scheme, and the lack of chemistry with quarterback Jackson Dart.

Insight page

Marvin Harrison Jr.

NegativeProjection43:43

Mina Kimes expresses uncertainty regarding Marvin Harrison Jr.'s potential for frustration, noting he seems happy for teammates but could become a trade name if the situation sours.

Insight page

Mina Kimes and Nate Tice discuss the Bills' tight end situation, questioning if fourth-round rookie Matthew Hibner will have a significant role in the offense.

Insight page

Patrick Mahomes

PositiveProjection20:06

Mina Kimes highlights Patrick Mahomes as a key reason the Chiefs are a playoff-caliber team, noting that the team has few weaknesses and plays in a wide-open conference.

Insight page
PositiveProjection33:38

Mina Kimes and Nate Tice emphasize that the Chiefs remain a playoff-caliber team primarily because Patrick Mahomes is their quarterback, regardless of other roster variables.

Insight page

Rhamondre Stevenson

PositiveUsage54:24

Mina Kimes highlights Rhamondre Stevenson as an elite shotgun runner with incredible advanced stats, noting he is a reliable short-yardage back.

Insight page

Travis Hunter

PositiveBreakout30:16

Travis Hunter is highlighted for his immense potential as a cornerback, with the expectation that he will be a significant contributor for the Jaguars now that he can focus primarily on the position.

Insight page

Trevor Lawrence

0:24The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny The NFL season is so close.
0:28It is tomorrow, which is so weird. It's on a Wednesday that it starts.
0:32Don't know how I feel about that. That's neither here nor there.
0:36Actually, that is important because a bit of housekeeping.
0:38My first season preview week preview week one preview, of course, is going to come out tomorrow morning Wednesday because of the NFL schedule.
0:45Dominique Foxworth is going to be on the show.
0:48Dominique Foxworth is going to be joining me and as part of that there's been a little bit of reshuffling.
0:54Dominique is now going to be joining me every other week for game previews and Ben Solak is going to be joining me on Tuesdays to recap.
1:02So for the show, longtime listeners, a little bit of a little bit of reshuffling, but that's not Ben Solak here today.
1:09That's Nate Tice, who's probably never been confused with Ben Solak in his life.
1:13Nate, welcome back to the show, buddy. Thanks. Thanks for having me.
1:17Yeah, so you're just talking to all my friends.
1:19You're like, Ben is on this. So now I know where my friends are.
1:23I see on our show. I'm just like, no, we're staying Tuesday and Thursday.
1:28I'll recap that Wednesday game on the Thursday show.
1:30No, no, you ain't changing. Sorry, you're going to Australia, but you ain't changing my schedule.
1:35I'm not doing that to me. No, great to be here.
1:38Great to see you. The days are like extremely confusing to me and I've already screwed it up like 20 times, but we will be previewing Patriots Seahawks.
1:47As someone that's understanding of Thursday football and Monday football and Friday football, and I'm totally fine with that.
1:52Wednesdays is a bridge too far. That's like, no, no, no, no, no, no.
1:57You're not screwing up my middle week. Like that is Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
2:00You just can't touch. You're not Maction. The podcast, by the way, that Nate alluded to is Football 301, which you guys should definitely check out.
2:08Excellent show that, as he said, comes out twice a week.
2:12Today, we are not here to recap, obviously, because football has not begun.
2:15We are here to do an exercise I'm calling Last Call.
2:19Final predictions for the NFL season. Now, this is not like which team's going to win the AFC Championship, which team's going
2:25to win the Super Bowl or whatnot. And the division winners, you guys all know from listening to my preview pods.
2:32These are categories, some of which I arbitrarily have come up with, some of which were submitted to me on Blue Sky.
2:38I really enjoy doing this. Like, I feel like some of these have been really fun to puzzle through, Nate.
2:44And I'm excited to hear what you have to say.
2:47I am too. Yeah, I like this. Yeah, as I have predicted, awards, win totals, everything.
2:52Like a superlative show kind of like this, or a fill-in-the-blanks, as you put it.
2:56This was much more entertaining for my brain right now, until we get games to react to.
3:01But for now, this was a nice little segment idea, so I appreciate you sending this to me.
3:07So the first one is sort of a proxy for who might be in the Super Bowl.
3:12But I actually am thinking about it from a match-up perspective.
3:15The question I say, so it's fill-in-the-blanks. I sent you a bunch of categories with a blank.
3:20You'd be able to fill in the blanks. The one I sent you that I want to start with was, the blank
3:27are the AFC team best positioned to take down the LA Rams?
3:30Now, I said AFC team because I assume we agree the NFC team is the Seahawks, and that's right.
3:36And maybe, you know, I have one other team that I might play footsie with.
3:41Yeah, the Cowboys. But I can't go on every freaking show like Joe DiMaggio for 56 straight shows and talk about the Cowboys.
3:48So I think it's the Seahawks just because I think, you know, this TLDR, the CX defense, the CX defense.
3:54I think the Seahawks offense is actually one of the few offenses uniquely equipped to potentially attack LA.
3:59So Seattle's my answer. So Seahawks fans, don't get mad at the wording of this question.
4:04The reason I wanted to make you about the AFC is because the AFC is like a logjam.
4:09Like the NFC is super top heavy, and the AFC has like five or six teams that are kind of all clumped together for me.
4:17So we didn't discuss beforehand what our answers are.
4:19I want to just, I'll just start first on this one.
4:23So first I narrowed it down to a few teams.
4:26I considered the Bills, the Ravens, the Patriots, the Broncos, the Texans.
4:29Those were the teams. And then, so those. Same for me.
4:32Yeah. Okay. So then I narrowed it down further.
4:35And my thought process was this, Nate. I was thinking about whether the Rams have any weaknesses.
4:40And actually I thought, is this team, is the team that I want to pick going to be one that is most likely to win in a shootout?
4:49Buffalo maybe. Or would it be a team where I actually think the defense might be positioned to take advantage of Rams' weaknesses?
4:55And I actually felt myself leaning that way because crazily enough, when I think about this Rams team and what it might
5:02take for them to lose or fall apart or whatever, I think the defense is actually deeper.
5:07And the offense is the side of the ball where I think the right team might be better equipped to stop them.
5:14We'll get into why. So then I narrowed it down further to the Broncos and the Texans.
5:19This is my process. I'm walking you through my process.
5:22And this was tough because I think the Texans defense has the best in the NFL.
5:27Texans, by the way, played the Rams last year.
5:29It was 14-9. Staff was good. I couldn't get there with the Texans because the Texans' offensive line against the Rams' defensive line.
5:36Whereas the Broncos have an elite offensive line. They might have a better run game.
5:41I'm more confident in that run game than Houston.
5:43And they have the sort of speed at pass rush that I think could give this Rams team problems in addition to, crucially, a very good run defense.
5:52So ultimately, that's a very long-winded way of answering.
5:54I chose the Denver Broncos. What team did you choose?
5:57I came, okay, somewhere kind of short list. My process, too, except through mine, was getting to.
6:02Usually the great equalizer in the playoffs are a run game, a pass rush, and a QB.
6:07Like those in some way, shape, or form. And that's usually going to kind of bear out.
6:13So I'm looking kind of like, all right. Texans was my first kind of like, that was what I was leaning towards the whole time.
6:20And then I was really thinking, I was like, but that offense is very neutral, I guess is the best way to put it.
6:27Very just classic. You know, very staples, NFL stuff.
6:30So I was really thinking, like, in a playoff with that kind of pass rush the Rams might have, wouldn't I want
6:36a quarterback that can create some stuff and pull stuff out of his ass?
6:41I was going to say, I would have. But either way.
6:44So I went with the Ravens. And it really was.
6:47It was. I've gotten more bullish on the Ravens throughout the summer.
6:51I liked them at the end of last year.
6:53And then they waved away. They maybe didn't have a perfect offseason.
6:57But now they've done enough that I'm like, okay, maybe center is my biggest question mark.
7:02But really, I look at everything else. I like the guards, the tackles.
7:05I like, you know, the pass catchers somewhat. But again, they don't have to live that way.
7:11And also the Declan Doyle, Lamar Jackson kind of marriage I've really warmed to as time's gone on.
7:16We talked about it a little bit, I think.
7:19And then I think on defensively, I just really like Jesse Minter.
7:22And now Jesse Minter, their issue was pass rush.
7:25And now they have Trey Hendrickson that they can just throw.
7:28And I know the scheme can, you know, dial up a lot of stuff.
7:32And he just has the horses to do it.
7:35So, yeah, it's not the perfect team. I still don't know how high I am on the Ravens, but I've gotten higher on them.
7:42And one thing that got the Rams last year was extended passes.
7:46It was longer dropbacks. That's why they got a pass rush.
7:49But, I mean, they had one last year. But even a better pass rush is that, so extended passes, all right.
7:55Well, who extends the ball? And who can extend those throws?
7:59Lamar Jackson. And that's actually where I was even going to dovetail off of you.
8:03Like, I don't mind the Broncos answer either because it's the same kind of thinking.
8:08Because Bo Nix isn't perfect. I would take CJ Stroud if I had to pick one.
8:12But Bo Nix can run around and create. And that's Stroud.
8:16That's what Stroud's not. That's not his game. He doesn't want to play that way.
8:20So there's kind of that little thinking too, where it's a little chaos generator at quarterback, would help that out.
8:26So the Ravens were tempting to me. And I have some notes on them.
8:30And they were kind of the odd man out just because I was like elite pass rush, elite pass rush.
8:36I was just – because I was like thinking, Stafford, what would it look like for it to fall apart?
8:42Okay, if there's an offensive line issue or if the play under pressure crumbles.
8:47But the Ravens to me are potentially – and that's kind of the question is like the potential, the most balanced team in the ASC.
8:54Right? Like I actually – I had them – and I think New England is the only two teams with a top
9:0110 offense and defense of all of the teams that we've mentioned.
9:04And the Ravens, like the ceiling is top five both.
9:07Like you could get there. You could absolutely get there.
9:10I think I was just scared a little off by the hypothetical nature of it to some degree.
9:16Yes, yes. I mean, but like – The ideas sound great right now in August.
9:20And I've looked at – I'm doing the graphs and going, this worked and this worked.
9:25It should work here. No, trust me. That's why maybe I tempered myself in the spring.
9:30And I think as a summer when I kind of just blew through all the warning signs.
9:35And even like the interior offensive line or the center.
9:38Oh, my God. Ethan Pochich coming off in the Achilles, I think, is their center.
9:42Gwynn? What's his name? You saw that Adam Schefter, the Ravens center.
9:46Ethan Pochich? No. Oh, Jonathan Gwynn? No, Jovan Gwynn?
9:48Jovan Gwynn will start at center on Sunday versus the Colts.
9:52Look at that timing. Okay. Really, Adam Schefter broke it 36 minutes ago.
9:56And there's about 300 tweets in reply saying who?
9:58Well, exactly right. I think he's like 28, 29.
10:01Because their – Ledford, their offensive line coach came from Atlanta and brought him over.
10:05And that's a classic thing. Like the line coach brings his back up.
10:09Interior guy to help everybody kind of get their head right.
10:13But now he's the starter. But again, it kind of – it's the same answer if it was Pochich or him.
10:19Because it's like – Yeah. I'm not very comfortable with somebody that I'm not sure what their standard is.
10:25But again, what their level of play is, I should say.
10:28But I mean, there's just so much with how I've seen Lamar play.
10:32I've talked myself more into the pass catchers. And I think the offense just knows how to kind of deal with that.
10:38And I like Ledford. I like the line coach a lot too.
10:42One thing I'm really interested in – you know, last week when I talked about the Aaron Donald signing and the Rams
10:49defense and what does it take to go after them, one of the things that I brought up was you really want
10:55to find ways to get the Rams linebackers on the field.
10:58Because that's their weakness on defense. And teams that can credibly threaten with multiple tight ends, which the Rams will match with
11:05their linebackers, I think are positioned to – in the passing game to attack them.
11:09And Buffalo is a team that can do that, right?
11:12Yeah. The Rams – Mavens might be. I mean, is like Matthew Hibner really going to be a thing?
11:18Yeah, a fourth rounder. I know. Like you're thinking of a fourth round rookie.
11:22Yeah, exactly. By the way, I was deciding between him and Marlon Klein in our Dynasty League that nobody cares about but us.
11:29That's so much to a Klein. I know. I went back – you know what?
11:34I thought Klein looked good in the preseason and I went to draft for a degree.
11:38I was just like, who's going to get more opportunities?
11:41The second rounder. So I just went with that.
11:44Yeah, but in any case – I think – yeah, I took Seth McGowan.
11:48He's become my third round pick because just – because.
11:51It's like there's no running backs. He's getting – he's looked good in preseason.
11:56Let's go. No one cares. No one cares. The Bills tout is better.
11:59I've been – I just – I maybe have – I'm like so wait and see with the Bills maybe.
12:05I'm really high on Leonard and stuff, but – I can't get there.
12:09Say again? I can't get there with the Bills defense against this Rams.
12:13I love Leonard, but – So that's the other thing with the Rams though.
12:17So, you know, I keep talking about pressure and Stafford, but like really they're secret sauces and you and I have talked
12:24about this a lot, that they had the most efficient run game in like NFL history.
12:29Yeah. And Stafford was never in third and long.
12:31Like they had the shortest distance to go on third down of any team in the NFL.
12:36So again, that brings us back to these teams.
12:39Who can actually stop the Rams run game on early downs?
12:42I think Denver, you know, Houston, Denver. Yeah. Maybe Baltimore?
12:45Yeah. Maybe? I feel better about it this year.
12:48They were good in the second half of last year.
12:51Yes. I feel better about it. Yeah. I know that's a great point because that's what kind of gets lost in the
12:58wayside with the Stafford last year is everything in their offense last year was like, yeah, he was unbelievable, but they didn't
13:04live in third down and or third longs, which is a good thing about your offense.
13:09But he was, I think they're like 20th or 22nd and third down conversion rate, all that stuff.
13:14But it was because they were just winning so much on early downs, big explosives from Stafford.
13:20And the run game was like, yeah, like you mentioned the best run game, literally by success rate since the year 2000.
13:26As far as I can look back in true media, I think they beat the 2004 Chiefs, I think was the team
13:33that they beat, but it's hard to sustain the best run game of the century again.
13:37All right. I like the Ravens. I think the Ravens are the like high upside case and the Broncos are the floor
13:44case to this answer to this question. Bills are playing the ramps, by the way, late in the season.
13:50And that's going to be just at Buffalo or at LA?
13:53Oh, that's a good question. I don't know. That is.
13:56Yeah. And it's late in the season. Oh, I kind of, I hope it's in LA.
14:01Just gives like, give me the firework show. Right.
14:03No, that I actually prefer that too. Yeah. I mean, I know the real football, real football.
14:09Oh, I want cold weather. No, it's no, I want points.
14:12Okay. It's at, no, it's in LA. Oh, no, it's not late in the season.
14:16It's only week five. And it's, it is buff.
14:19It's in LA. Sorry. Okay. Oh my God. It's Monday night football.
14:23Oh my God. Juicy. Juicy. Juicy. So sick. There's so many good ones.
14:27Okay. Next question. I'll let you go first on this one.
14:30The team most likely to make us look dumb is blank.
14:33Okay. This is a team. Cause I'm so high on, and I know that I'm waving away all the warning signs.
14:39I know. And I have one of each one low to go high.
14:43It's the chargers. It's me and the chargers right now.
14:46This is a team that made me look so dumb because I'm high on them and I'm waving.
14:52Cause I'm just so bullish on Justin Herbert, Mike McDaniel, all this stuff.
14:56And I'm like, yeah, Jesse mentor might be really, really good.
14:59And might be a drop off the defensive coordinator, Chris O'Leary.
15:02Yeah. The offensive line, they're starting a day, day two center and who knows who at guard doesn't matter.
15:08Who doesn't matter who their number one receiver is.
15:10No, I like the ideas that they did. So it's more me, the fell for it again award kind of thing with the chargers.
15:18Everyone wants to say again, but maybe that's it.
15:20It's more just, I'm waving away a lot of warning signs.
15:24Cause I'm so bullish on what this offense could be and all the other moves that they made on this team.
15:30So that's, that's, that's that version that can maybe get to the negative on them.
15:34How do you think it would make you look dumb?
15:37Like how would that play out exactly? Oh, just the usual.
15:41The offensive line falls apart. Justin Herbert's pressured all the time.
15:44They, the defense has a little bit of a drop off because it's not mentor.
15:48And it's really like he was actually doing a lot with this kind of hive mind.
15:53So it's more of like the 12th best defense, the 14th best defense, not a top six, seven unit.
15:59I know that's splitting hairs, but it can make, that's the difference.
16:02I think in the AFC from eight, nine and 12 and five, you know, 11 and six.
16:08Cause like you mentioned at the top, it's so tight.
16:11Uh, so I think that is really just kind of what I'm hung up on.
16:15Uh, if, as far as negatives and maybe I just keep going, Oh, Mike McDaniel can wave it away.
16:21Cause he didn't dolphins with the offensive line, but maybe he doesn't hear like maybe just, it just kind of doesn't, they
16:27don't have the speed at receiver to kind of mitigate that.
16:31Um, and create those explosives and stuff. Maybe your Martin Hampton does not what I think he is, which I think he's very good.
16:38Yeah. And try to give him every fancy league I'm in, but maybe he's not that.
16:43And maybe he's just fine. And so they don't have Dave on Devon, a chance who's a very good back.
16:49So it's just those things that I think I'm translating a lot.
16:52Maybe just don't work out that way. I think the most, I mean, um, you know, I relatively high on the charges as well.
16:59I just think Dominique and I always talk about this.
17:02When we get into the playoffs and we look dumb when we discount offensive lines and we're just, you know, like, like
17:09the things, one of the things where we're consistently made to look dumb is when we overestimate the prospect of teams with
17:15bad offensive lines or extreme offensive line. And I look at the chargers and I keep waving my hand and saying, Mike McDaniel will cover up that.
17:24Mike McDaniel, we saw him do that. And I think that's where it would go wrong for me in terms of like making how I would feel dumb.
17:32Like Mina, you know, offensive line is so important and you wrote it off again.
17:36The, not just center, the interior. Yes. The entire interior, three of the five spots are, it kind of, we're kind of
17:43cheating ahead of one of the other categories. But, um, okay.
17:46So I, I, I went with the one that would make us look dumb.
17:50The team that will make us look dumb by being successful was my interpretation.
17:55And this isn't even a team that I'm like low on, but it's not a team that I and many people I
18:01think are predicting to win the AFC West right now.
18:04What if the Kansas City Chiefs are just the Kansas City Chiefs again?
18:08Yes. Okay. Right. So like, yeah, zero is okay.
18:11So first of all, every nerd regression sign is pointing towards positive regression this year.
18:15The close games, the missed field goals, all of it, uh, suggests that they were like historically unlucky last year.
18:21On top of that, um, the offense for all of the like, you know, hand wringing and oh my God, they're running it back.
18:28They were 12th in offensive. They're still fine and everything.
18:31Yeah, I know. And they have a better run game this season.
18:35And then the final piece of that for me is I'm starting to talk myself into this defense potentially being good.
18:41And it was basically like kind of average-ish to a little below that last year.
18:46So maybe this is a little bit too much preseason copium and watching some of these young players.
18:51But I was thinking through, I was just looking at the depth chart.
18:55And first of all, last year, yes, pass rusher wasn't good enough.
18:59The blitz weren't hitting. But Karloftis was hurt like half of the year, notably.
19:03They added R. Mason Thomas, who looks like a freaking stud in the preseason.
19:07Uh, other signings like Kyrus Tonga is like one of quietly one of my favorite signs at nose.
19:12And then the secondary is very, very young. But they were bad last year.
19:17And I think they're going to be, there's a chance they're better this season.
19:21And you have, um, Tamar Conner no longer mercifully playing slot.
19:24Exactly. Uh, Manchester Lane looks awesome as a draft pick I loved.
19:28Yep. And then Noel Williams, I texted you about this.
19:31I went down like a little bit of a rabbit hole watching Noel Williams.
19:35The reason I, cause I was looking at some of their numbers and his numbers last year were awesome.
19:40Like he led all the chiefs corners in EPA per target success rate.
19:44Um, only 20% of his targets were open, which was ranked very high in the NFL.
19:49He had only 3.3 average coverage, uh, in yards per separation and coverage was second league wide to sauce Gardner who gave up big plays.
19:57And then I went back and watched and he's really good.
20:00I think I, you know, it was good. And it's a big part of the reason why they were comfortable moving on
20:06from McDuffie, but like some of his man coverage reps are extremely impressive.
20:10Um, so, you know, nickel, we'll see about that.
20:13But yeah, on the whole, I like regression offense was actually good and the defense could be better.
20:18And Oh, by the way, Patrick Mahomes is your quarterback.
20:21How is that not a playoff team? And yeah, I just feel like that they can a wide open, wide open conference
20:28where it's like, yes, I mean, none of these teams should be super favored over another.
20:33I don't think like it's no, that's, I, I even had my top 10 defenses doc open when I did that show
20:39and I see all my chiefs notes. Cause I, you could see that was at the beginning of the summer.
20:45So it was the end of July and I'm like beginning of summer, middle of summer, beginning of summer for me.
20:52Um, but I'm really just looking at it and I, it all starts with their DBs.
20:56So everything you laid out is why I got high on them.
21:00I really liked the other guy, Chris Roland Wallace, um, who's played slot in on the back half.
21:05Um, so just, that's it. Like they don't have a ton of weaknesses on their team.
21:10Even if we are kind of waving away, maybe some of the players like, Oh, he's fine.
21:15Like Nick Bolton's fine. There's still Chris Jones. You mentioned Tonga.
21:19That's a great shout. Peter Woods is a nice wild card, but if you want to outplay your expectations, wild cards hit.
21:25Josh Simmons is a little iffy right now. And I'm trying to, they, apparently they might not play him and it's going
21:32to be Khalil Benson who did look good this preseason, but at guard, right.
21:36Garden left tackle. Very different. So, so that's, that's my other, because I was, I've been really hyping up the chiefs offensive line.
21:43Cause Simmons looks amazing when he's out there. That's a good point.
21:46That that's the only other thing that's kind of like, Oh, it stopped me.
21:51Cause I've, I've been kind of throwing chiefs in as like the seven seed and some predictions, but now I'm kind of like going back and forth now.
21:59Um, that's a good one. That is a, the offensive line is a good point.
22:03I, the Jones thing too. I really hope that they've added enough defensive line depth where they can just play it less.
22:10Yeah. He's playing too much football right now and he's not, he's not plus against the run anymore.
22:15Right. So like Tonga, I'm hoping, you know, like, uh, just some of these defensive tackles, if they can just like that
22:22way, he can be more effective on passing downs and line up at the edge if he wants to.
22:28And, um, he's hard to play or build around compliment.
22:31I should say, because I think a lot of times we see these really disruptive players, especially at D tack or DN or edge or something like that.
22:39And we think we just want more of that.
22:42We want, Oh, we have a gap shooter. Let's get another gap shooter.
22:46And look at these guys. Yeah. You almost want, you want the dirty work guys next to those guys, because the guys
22:52that just eat blocks could, then they can go do their fun things like Chris Jones can do.
22:58I think they did it. I do like, but again, I have to see a play out, but I'm right there with you on this.
23:05Like, I, I think they ate their vegetables on defense this off season.
23:09I, I, I like what they're trying to do.
23:12Real potential bread feed all time or of an off season.
23:15If he pulls it off. Um, all right. Blank.
23:18This one comes from trivia lawyer on blue sky.
23:20Blank is the player most likely to be disgruntled by week 10, AKA the AJ Brown award.
23:25Uh, so I just looked, I took it to be a receiver.
23:29I don't know if you did. I want to receive it right away.
23:33Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Here's my list. And then you tell me if your guy is on this.
23:38I had a hard bullet. Number one. Okay. So I'm curious what your list is.
23:42Okay. Marvin Harrison, Jr. Garrett Wilson. DK Metcalf. Jerry Judy.
23:45Malik neighbors. Justin Jefferson. Drake London. Ted Oroa McMillan.
23:48What's your guy on my list? Neighbors. Neighbors. Okay.
23:51Hard. Number one. Really? Hard. Run first team. Yeah.
23:53Jackson dart, figuring it out. Boom bust. They did extend James Winston.
23:57Nope. Nope. Hint. Hint. Uh, but no, just really looking at that.
24:01Uh, no, but neighbors being frustrated. He's working back from injury.
24:04So if he has any frustrations with that, um, that's, you know, just a whole litany of things, but the offense, I
24:10think is going to be run first, run second.
24:13And so, and I think dart as a player is a scrambler and kind of a boom bust thrower and neighbors.
24:19If you remember his rookie year was just, you know, all over the yard.
24:24He's kind of that kind of, he's an awesome player, but he's that kind of receiver.
24:28He needs to feed the field of love, I think to like get going.
24:33So that's the question is who the hell else are they going to throw to?
24:37I know 40 tight ends. Malachi fields. My guy, Malachi fields.
24:40I like him. He's, um, I don't. Yeah, it's the thing about neighbors and dart is we just now they've literally played so little together.
24:48We have no idea what that's going to look like or how it's going to feel.
24:53Even when I wrote this down, I looked up, I was like, what, how are they?
24:57And I was like, oh, they barely played together.
25:00Yeah. So it is worth mentioning. But yeah, that's the guy.
25:03I'm just kind of, he's just his personality. He's a very, I think he's just a very emotional guy.
25:09Very like kind of like that too. So I think what's, um, going to be interesting is to, I still don't know
25:16what this giant's offense is going to look like.
25:18It's Matt Nagy who, you know, Chiefs, West Coast, spread it out.
25:22RPS spread out. Greg Roman in a consultant role, but like run game and.
25:26O-line road game coordinators. Yeah. But he has a big say on it.
25:30Uh, odd coupling of coach, of experienced coaches. And so I'm very interested in seeing, and this might actually really impact your
25:37choice here of neighbors, what the offense actually looks like, because, um, yeah, Greg Roman does have a history of, uh, pissing receivers off on his own.
25:45Yes, he does. Separate. Yes, he does. It's not even about dark guys.
25:49Um, all right. That wasn't ultimately my choice. I, I mean, this is a little bit of a cop out.
25:55I went with Judy, but that's kind of a cop out.
25:58He's probably not at this point high profile enough to even.
26:01Yeah. I threw in some spicy names there. Did anyone else pique your interest?
26:05Uh, no, I, I don't think Jefferson will ever be that because last year he went through the year from hell and
26:12the most you got from him was like just a couple, like, um, you know, I'm working through it, you know, we're,
26:18we're trying to get better, you know? So I don't think Jefferson will ever be that.
26:23I don't think Marvin Harrison jr. I have no idea.
26:26I have no read on him. Um, he seemed happy for Michael Wilson after his extension.
26:31So it seems that was, he's going to be a hot, hot trade name.
26:35I feel like if things, I think so too.
26:38I think any team with receiver help, this is not his coaching staff, all that stuff.
26:43He, I I'm curious that fit there's signs of there's paths of it working, but I, you know, how about DK?
26:49If Pittman becomes Aaron Rogers new friend, I know it won't be Roman Wilson.
26:53Won't be Aaron Rogers is new friend or continued friend.
26:56Jeez. Poor guy. Can't get out, go have a press conference without getting his name mentioned.
27:01Um, no DK's DK. I don't know. That's the thing with Rogers and everything too.
27:05So I don't know. I don't know if he would get to that high, high of a point, but I don't know.
27:12I think he's, I think Rogers will feed him enough.
27:15Garrett Wilson was the other one. If things, I mean, my choices are just pure football.
27:20Like I really go for any personalities. You know, I London and Macmillan probably too young.
27:25I don't know. I mean, I was in juniors young too.
27:28So actually all these guys are young, really neighbors young too.
27:31Um, okay. Let's keep it moving. Blank is the coordinator who everybody will be trying to hire next off season.
27:37I mean, my pull. Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry. Oh, sorry.
27:40Oh yeah. Okay. McDaniel was the one, like, I was like, all right, if you want to retread, but I was like,
27:47all right, the, the kind of nerd one right now was Clayton Adams, you know, from the Cowboys.
27:52I would, I'd throw his name out there as probably my number one.
27:56Uh, and then my other, probably my number two, just cause a continuation of last year's Nate Sheelhouse from the Rams.
28:02Um, those are kind of like the two that came to mind.
28:06I was trying to find some defensive guys, Chris Shula, but you know, uh, he went through the interview process last year,
28:12but I think he could be up there as well.
28:15But Clayton Adams was kind of my one, like stable one.
28:19I wonder with Shula cause somebody I was talking to, maybe it was on my pod.
28:23I was talking to somebody about like, they were like, wow, Chris Shula is going to be a head coach.
28:29Like what a winner. And I was like, or people look at him and say, my uncle could have called the Rams
28:36defense and got a top five, which isn't fair to him at all.
28:40No, it's not. Like you might get dinged a little bit for having to tell it.
28:45I don't know. I just like last year was a better thing for his resume than this year will be like a better notch on his belt.
28:53Yeah. It's some pretty creative stuff. I thought he did some really creative stuff.
28:57That's why I, I've been for his first year as a DC.
29:00I was, he did some game plan stuff against the Raiders of all teams.
29:05And I was like, it was stuff I hadn't really seen.
29:08I've seen it, but rarely. And it was kind of cool.
29:11I was like, all right, Chris Shula. I'm like, it's a little like fastball.
29:15He threw there. So yeah, I know. But yeah, he's another one.
29:19Declan Doyle. Okay. So Declan Doyle. So I have two names that are first time offensive guys, Declan Doyle and Brian Flurry.
29:26If either of those offenses just go. Yeah. That look really good.
29:29I think that they'll both, especially because with Doyle's case, Doyle's case is like a transformation scheme wise.
29:35People want a piece of Ben Johnson. If that works, he could be the beneficiary of that, even with the Lamar factor.
29:41And then Flurry also, I think could be another beneficiary of if the Seahawks offense takes another step.
29:47I actually like two defensive guys. One of which is Anthony Campanile, the Jags defensive coordinator.
29:51I think it's kind of the reverse of Chris Shula, where I think he's going to get a lot of credit if
29:58that defense looks good, because it's more of a really good player's defense.
30:02It's not a star's defense like the Jags. They have not really good even strong.
30:06It's just like a lot of good. I don't know.
30:09I don't want to diminish them by saying they're like B plus players, but like they have a lot of good players.
30:16Hines Allen is a star. Maybe Travis Hunter will be, but there aren't like many household names outside of that.
30:22So I think he could get a lot of credit if they're as good as I think they could be.
30:28And then the other one is a first time guy.
30:31I think Christian Parker is going to get a lot of buzz if this thing turns around.
30:36And what a great springboard for him, because this was the worst defense in the NFL last year.
30:41There's only one way to get it. It's crazy.
30:4418th is going to smell sweet. Yeah. 18th in defensive DVOA, 14th in weighted.
30:48He's got all the resume buzzwords and stylistic ones that everybody wants right now.
30:52Fangio defense, simulated pressures, creativity in disguise on the back end.
30:56So I just think I saw him talking to you and he just kind of presents like he just seems like a coach kind of vibe.
31:03I don't know anything about him, just context clues.
31:06But everyone raves about him. But again, I take everything with a grain of salt.
31:11Like I always did that with Brian Schottenheimer. And then Brian Schottenheimer hasn't been a winning record yet, but it's looking good, at least with Schottenheimer.
31:18But yeah, I've kind of been clued in on how people have talked about him.
31:23They're very high on him. Well, let's stick with defense.
31:26This category is one of my favorites to do.
31:29Blank is going to be a first time all pro on defense.
31:32This was hard. Well, a lot of guys turned out had all pros.
31:36I was like, that's what stunk. I didn't know Quinny Williams.
31:39I thought Quinny Williams only had a second team in his first team.
31:43I was like, ow. I went for a totally out of nowhere player, just for fun, just to talk about him a little bit.
31:50Walter Nolan of the Cardinals. That's crazy. Yes. They won't.
31:53It won't happen. But I just want to highlight him real quick because he has that talent and he probably won't stay healthy this year anyways.
32:01And the team won't be in a position for him to get the stats anyways.
32:06But I want to say Walter Nolan because this was hard for me because I was like, oh, Cooper, did you?
32:12No, no, no, no, no. You got one. And I was like looking at linebackers.
32:16Like, no. So I'm curious what names you came over.
32:19Maybe I can rack my brain a few more, but this was a tough one for me.
32:24Less hipster picks on my end. Okay, good. Okay.
32:27So here's some guys who just missed the cut for me.
32:30I was just writing down defensive names who I thought could get it.
32:34Kamari Lasseter. The great one. That's a good one.
32:37Dave. Byron Murphy, the second. Another good one. Milton Williams.
32:40Oh, another good one. Ah, that should have been my answer.
32:43That's a great one. Yeah. Jalen Petrie sticking with the – basically, these are a lot of good defenses.
32:49Carson Schwestern, who was your defensive rookie of the year.
32:52I wrote Mike Jackson or J.C. Horn. One of them.
32:55Travis Hunter. Why not? Yeah. Nicky Manwari. Okay. Okay.
32:58So those were the just-misted cuts. I narrowed it down to two.
33:01I have to choose between them. All right. I'll just choose.
33:04Abdel Carter. I'm so high on Abdel Carter. I think he's so good.
33:08I've gotten into this. I don't need to rehash it.
33:11The advanced metrics love him. When you watch the tape, he should have had so many more sacks than he did.
33:18I think that the linebackers are going to protect him and the other undersized pass rushers more, and they'll get more opportunities to rush the quarterback.
33:25I just think he's got all the tools. I actually was higher on him watching his rookie tape even than going into the draft.
33:33That, to me, is like a glaring green flag.
33:35If you come into the NFL and you impress me that much as a rookie, I just think he's going to be a star.
33:42That's my number two guy was a guy who is, I think, a pretty good choice as well.
33:48Kobe Turner. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Rams. Oh, look at this.
33:51Look at the fearsome foursome they got. But also, he's been so good.
33:55Yeah. Fifth and pass rush win last year. Fourth most doubled player since coming into the NFL.
34:00And now he gets to play on the Monstars.
34:02And the nerds have loved him. Film nerds have loved him.
34:06Stat nerds have loved him. So now it's the public.
34:09And it's not even like, oh, he gets to easy clean up.
34:12No, he's already a really, really good guy. Yeah, he's pretty good.
34:16He's Pro Bowl quality. Yeah. He's like a unique nose, too.
34:19That's what's cool about him, too. And when you want to anoint a guy with an award for the first time, tell the story of him.
34:27And that's the thing about him. He's a unique version of his position.
34:31Maybe it's the defense helping it. But so that's a really good one, too.
34:35I think he could be like a crazy stats compiler this year.
34:39Of your short list, I would say the ones I would steal were Milton Williams and Petrie.
34:44I think Petrie's a great shout, too. Because he's all pro caliber.
34:47Petrie's never made a Pro Bowl. Yeah, that shocked me, actually, now that I looked it up.
34:52I thought he, for some reason, I did. I thought he had his Pro Bowl last year.
34:58And they had like three Pro Bowers in their DB room.
35:01But I'm way off. I do wonder if like maybe they get a little bit punished because you don't want to give the entire Texans secondary.
35:09You know, sometimes that happens. And Turner might get that as well.
35:12All right. Final question. We'll take a break. I feel like we're going to have the same answer for this one because it's kind of obvious.
35:20This comes from Alex Ng, 65. The blank are most likely to have the biggest disparity between offensive and defensive DVOA.
35:26Say it on three. One, two, three. The Bears.
35:29Packers. Wow. Wow. So my answer, I go three quarters of the NFC North.
35:33I literally wrote Bears, Lions, Packers. Which one? Lions, Bears, Packers.
35:36Those are my three number first teams that came to mind.
35:40I didn't even think of the other good defense, bad offense.
35:43I didn't even think of that. I was like, nope, these three.
35:47Yeah. I went Packers just because I think maybe by the end of the year, like they're going to take a little
35:53bit to kind of get back, pick, pick back up.
35:56But the Bears is a good one too. But yeah, either of those.
36:00Is that, I'm curious about the Packers versus the Bears because first of all, Bears fans, there's two ways to take it.
36:07One is I really like your offense. Like this is about disparity.
36:10Because I assume, like, do you think, because the Bears and the Packers offenses I view is pretty comparable.
36:16I might be slightly higher on the Packers, but that is if everybody is healthy.
36:20Same tier. Yeah. The Bears defense, I have below the Packers defense.
36:24Do you not? It's more just like the no Micah Parsons is really hurting me right now or really doing a lot
36:30for me because I don't know what, I don't know what this defense is going to look like.
36:36Truly. You know, we see some preseason tests. We talked about this.
36:39But even just like, all right, so you got Lucas Van Ness, who I do like, but I'm not saying Lucas Van Ness is a 10 sack guy.
36:48When they have to stop the run, it's like, okay, who is the, like Javon Hargrave's a gap shooter.
36:54They don't really have that. Linebacker wise, they're already talking about moving Edge Cooper more onto the line of scrimmage for some funkier looks.
37:01So it's just like, they have a lot of questions that yes, I do think there's a chance that it works out.
37:07But right now, if, but also I keep doing that with Micah Parsons in mind, but until Micah Parsons gets there, I can't get over the top.
37:15I just can't. And whether that's fair, I do like a lot of their aspects.
37:20And I think Gannon's actually kind of underrated in some ways that I love the back end.
37:25Like I like the safeties, but that's the thing.
37:28Yeah. The corners and the edge rushers with the bears, with the Packers, I ultimately was a little bit more comfortable with
37:34the spine, the defense, Wyatt back, the linebackers, the safeties and the return of Parsons.
37:39I don't know what I'm comfortable with, with the sparrity.
37:42That's fair. Like what is, what can you hate?
37:44Jalen Johnson. Sweat was okay last year. Sweat was pretty good.
37:48Like what? Maybe the linebackers will be good. Yeah.
37:50But TJ Edwards has always hurt. Even if I like him.
37:54Yep. And like, they were still starting Garrett, Brady Jarrett, you know, who's playing D tackle for them.
37:59Like that, that, that's when you can't stop the run early downs.
38:03It's really hard to play good defense. And so, yeah, that's the bears is probably the better answer for this.
38:09Is. This is a little bit too hot takey right now off coming off this, but like should best fans be mad at Ryan polls for not.
38:17Like, this is the team that was in the divisional round of the playoffs.
38:21They shouldn't have a defense that is this bad on pay.
38:24And I know that they've had injuries, Kobe Bryant, Kyler Gordon, but like you didn't do none on the past.
38:30Like, I feel, I feel like they should be all aggrieved.
38:33Yeah. Austin Booker is interesting, but they haven't drafted any defense alignment.
38:37Especially how good this offense is and that it's trending in such an amazing direction.
38:41And you're so excited about your young quarterback. And finally, it's like the nightmare is over.
38:46Like, why would you not make more of an effort to be more competitive on the, I just, I don't know.
38:53I would be frustrated. That's how I felt looking at the depth chart.
38:56I was just like, I know. Cause it's like, even like the offense, it's like, okay, yeah, we got to figure out
39:03left tackle and everything, but man, tight ends passing game.
39:06Our run game was explosive last year. We got the best year of Deandre Swift.
39:10Deandre Swift. Caleb's ascending. Like our, our head coach is like getting all these accolades that are deserving.
39:16I believe I like, I agree with them. And then just like the defense is like, they can't get out of their own way.
39:23They had a stretch. And what's this, Ibra Fluss is the last year, I think where they actually looked pretty good or the year before that.
39:31And I was like, okay, here we go. Here's some talent.
39:34None of those guys are there anymore. It's just a couple of the DBs.
39:38Like, and then now they have Montez Sweat. You know, like they traded for him that year as well.
39:44But like Austin Booker is the only guy, you know, Dylan Tineman, but Austin Booker is the only young guy.
39:50That's interesting to me. Merging teams should have like three or four of those guys where I'm like, Hey, this guy's interesting.
39:57Like the Cardinals have more interesting defenders than I think the bears do right now.
40:01Well, I put all these heat. I was like, like, okay, Cowboys and the Bengals perennial.
40:06But like, obviously the Bengals were very aggressive. Both these teams were very aggressive in upgrading their defenses this year.
40:12And like, both have the potential to be average.
40:14You know, you only need to be average with those offenses.
40:18Yep. You could say the same about the bears and they just didn't do it.
40:22So, all right. Take a quick break. Come back.

41:44The team most likely to be undone by its offensive line is blank.
41:48The Chargers. Okay, so let's talk about teams other than the Chargers, because we already talked about the Chargers.
41:54We'll talk about the Chargers in a second, but I'll tell you all the teams that I considered here.
41:59The Texans, perennially. Yeah, right. The Raiders. Okay. Some questions about that group.
42:03Yeah. And then I wrote a bunch that I didn't feel were, those were the three, my final three.
42:09I also considered the Packers. Okay. The Lions, if things go sideways with the rebuild.
42:13Can I throw another one in there? Yeah. I would actually even throw the Bears in there if they don't have the
42:20health luck that they had last year. Only healthy season of Jonah Jackson.
42:24Joe Tooney's another year older. Who's playing left tackle?
42:27I know they have options. Garrett Bradbury's a below average player.
42:30And Darnell Wright's a star. But Darnell Wright's the only one I feel good about going into this year.
42:36And Tooney, but it's again, one day it won't work with Tooney.
42:39The offense was so, the line was so dominant in the run game.
42:43So it's kind of like a, like, I don't think either of us think the Bears are going to have a bottom 10.
42:50No. Like, the teams I talked about were like potential bottom 10 ones.
42:54But when we're saying like undone, it can mean different things.
42:57Like, the Rams honestly could fit the bill because that's the one potential weakness that they have.
43:02They could be undone from winning the Super Bowl by a single offensive line injury and not having depth there, which was a decision that they made.
43:10But the, yeah, that's a good point. But the three that I mentioned.
43:14Okay. So the Texans did another makeover. And then they did a mini makeover after their makeover, reshuffling it again.
43:20So now it's Ursary, Rutledge at guard, Evan Brown, who's a veteran center, Ed Ingram and Trent Brown.
43:26After they had brought in Braden Smith, he got hurt.
43:29They ended up moving Rutledge after trying center back to guard.
43:32I think, and I say this as somebody who was very skeptical of the line last year going into the season and
43:38really kept throwing cold water on everyone. Like, like, you know, just like, this is not, I know these players.
43:44I do think on paper, this is going to be a better group.
43:48I don't think it's going to be a dominant line, but I think it'll be good enough.
43:53Where say you? Yep, I do. I think even second half last year, they were above board.
43:58It wasn't good. It was, I wouldn't, I slightly below average.
44:02My biggest worry is the guy that they are like, they really like is Ed Ingram because it's like, I don't know that.
44:09He was better, but he's still not like fine.
44:11Like he's still below, to me, he's not even like a quality starter.
44:15So it's like, but having said that, Trent Brown has looked good in this kind of offensive system because it's familiar to what he's done before.
44:23I really like the Rutledge pick, whether it was center or guard, wherever he plays for them.
44:28And I'm higher on nursery than I think others are as a prospect and so far as a pro.
44:34But again, not saying amazing Pro Bowl quality. I think quality starter is more what you're aiming for with that.
44:40So yeah, I think that's just, you have to like keep that in your head until they prove otherwise.
44:45I will say it has looked better in the preseason.
44:48This talent is better. They have actually some like Jake Andrews, who's been their starters depth now, potentially, you know, like that's,
44:55you know, it's nice to have that when the guys don't have to play.
44:59Okay. So they're, they're, they have better answers to mitigate any issues, I think is maybe a better way to put it.
45:06But I'm still not like overboard on them. I think it's more average at best.
45:10The Raiders, I feel like I'm the only person who's been apprehensive of this.
45:14You know, Colton Miller being healthy and Linderbaum is very helpful.
45:18But the other three positions are major question marks to me.
45:21I know they look better in the preseason. I'm just need to see it from DJ Gle.
45:26The right side of the line. It's like, I don't know.
45:29It was so bad last year and they ran it back.
45:33So I just, that's one or, and to me also, it's a, it's a big deal because we know that Kubiak wants to run the ball.
45:40He wants to run the ball a lot on early downs.
45:44And if this line isn't, if they're constantly behind the sticks because of bad runs, this thing could all go haywire.
45:50Kind of like it did in New Orleans, frankly, when they started losing offensive linemen with Kubiak.
45:55Yep. No, that's a great point. No, I, they, I think it's more, they, they look so much better in the preseason.
46:02I'm like, yeah, it's great now. It's fine. Not great, but it's fine.
46:05Now it's fine. The Kubiak offense does help it.
46:08It's, it's hard to evaluate some guys in the Kubiak offense because of that.
46:12But, but that is the, that's why you bring in a Kubiak-Shahehan guys because they do mitigate some of the issues and stuff.
46:19So, no, I agree with that. I, I think I've just been more trying to like excite myself with the Raiders.
46:26And I mean, Linda Braum is awesome. Colton Miller is a good left tackle.
46:30So it's kind of slept on last year that he didn't play.
46:33About the same, about the same as the Chargers.
46:36Two out of five. It's, it's interesting, right? Because it's kind of like if you're going to choose two out of five,
46:43well, hypothetically in a Mike McDaniels offense, you would choose the tackles.
46:46I think normal football at center and left tackle.
46:49Those are the two you want. If I were building a team.
46:52So the center, Jake Slaughter could be good, but he's a rookie.
46:56I think the guard situation is pretty dire. I mean, maybe Awosika, who's going to play left guard.
47:01It actually looked okay. He was not the one who jumped out to me in the preseason as being the issue.
47:08The bad one, right? Yeah, I know. It's, and two, it's like, it's not like it's something I haven't seen.
47:14I've seen Justin Herbert with three defensive linemen in his lap, like as soon as he hits the back foot of his drop.
47:21So I know, I'm sure, maybe I just want to see, I'm wishing something different, you know, manifesting that's going to look
47:27a little different at some point this year. But no, you're going to have to drop back.
47:32And those guards, those interior guys aren't going to have to have bootlegs.
47:36They're not going to have the motion. They're going to have to just drop back and eat a one-on-one of protection.
47:42And that's the thing. That's what worries you. It's like, yeah, against teams that you have a good game script.
47:48You don't have to worry about it. But once it comes to playoff time, once it comes against the Texans, any of
47:55those, they're going to just tee off on you over time.
47:58All right. On to a more positive one. The blank are going to look much better in the second half of the season than the first.
48:06I felt like I had a pretty clear one for this.
48:09What was your choice? I have two. And one is kind of a continuation was the Packers, was the O-line gelling, the
48:16Micah Parsons coming back, defense figuring themselves out. So second half Packers on Bullish on first half, I'm a little not so much.
48:23And the other was the Raiders, was who we just talked about, was, hey, they figured out Mendoza is maybe starting.
48:29So that was kind of what I looked at for them as the Raiders.
48:33Maybe they figured out their defensive personnel. And actually another team.
48:36No, I want to hear what yours is before.
48:39Okay. So I considered two teams with schematic overhauls.
48:42I considered the Ravens and the Eagles for that reason, just like maybe these offenses will start to gel.
48:48Even though the Ravens were a little bit more optimistic about that coming together quickly, it is entirely possible that, you know,
48:54they look better in the second half. But ultimately, I went with this team because of injuries for the most part.
49:00And that's the Indianapolis Colts. Yeah. Yeah. Think about it.
49:03Daniel Jones, further removed from the Achilles. Alex Pierce is starting the end.
49:07He's at their most important wide receiver. He's coming off of the injury.
49:11Sass Gardner still coming up. I mean, you know, he's back, but obviously he's probably going to look better the further out.
49:18And then you've got rookies starting on defense. Rookie linebacker.
49:21And in addition to the injuries, you've got a lot of youth on that side of the ball.
49:26So that I thought, the other thing is they start the season against the Ravens, Chiefs and Texans.
49:31And I was looking at two half, the second half of the season, Dolphins, Texans, Giants, Eagles, Titans, Bengals, Browns.
49:37So, Jack. So, like, I just think this is a team, for all the reasons to lay it out, that could look
49:44much better in the second half of the season than the first.
49:48That's a good one. Yeah. I mean, just the first two names you mentioned, the quarterback and their leading receiver.
49:54Just working back from injuries is a good way to start with that one.
49:58No. And also, yeah, CJ Allen, man. I had really liked that pick, and I liked that player, and actually I think
50:04this is a good scheme for him, too, because he's so smart.
50:08So, I'm glad you actually kind of half-mentioned him here, CJ Allen, because I want to give him a little shout-out.
50:14Evan Cohen here. Game day brings the excitement. Your stay should feel just as memorable.

51:24All right. I think we're going to have the same answer for this one.
51:28Blank is the running back who will usurp his starter.
51:31This comes from Old BK on Blue Sky. We're going to have the same answer on this one?
51:37I was wondering where you're reaching on this one.
51:39Okay. I have two. Well, it's the guy we both love.
51:43Jonah Coleman? Yeah. Okay. Jonah Coleman was my number one answer.
51:46Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.
51:49Good. Jonah Coleman fans. I mean, I'm- Okay. Good.
51:51Yeah. You dub. By the way, watching the Huskies this weekend.
51:55Oh, I miss Jonah Coleman. But anyways, that's neither here nor there.
51:58First of all, great situation. Mm-hmm. Shaky running back room.
52:01Mm-hmm. The coach loves him already. Won't shut up about him.
52:05I'm in the preseason. I was like, okay, got it, guys.
52:08We got it. Well, as you and I know, this is part of why, aside from my Huskies fandom, like, he was a very pro-ready back.
52:16Yes. He can pass protect. He is extremely decisive.
52:18He doesn't make many mental errors. And, like, yes, he's not the most explosive back, and he's built a little bit like
52:25my three-year-old son, but he will get you every yard he can.
52:29I just, there was a run in the preseason, because he played in the first game, and I don't remember.
52:34It was a duo run. He spins out of a tackle or something, and just, I don't even remember how much it was for.
52:42And then he lowers his shoulder and just plows through, like, three dudes.
52:46Yep. And I was just like, Sean Payne is going to freaking love this.
52:50Like, the vision, the tackle-breaking ability, you know, I just feel like he's just not surprising to me that he's already in the opposite of the doghouse.
52:58That's what Payne loves in his run game. Like, that's why he drafted freaking Marvin Ingram in the first round.
53:04Like, it's like he wants those guys to just pound it.
53:07You get exactly what you block it for, maybe a yard or two more.
53:11You can stay on the field in short yards.
53:14You can stay on the field in third down pass protection.
53:17Like, those are the backs he loves, and then he likes to sprinkle in the scatbacks, the Camaras, and the Darren Sproleses of the world.
53:25So, no, I'm big on Coleman. I really like him.
53:28And like you mentioned, it's like, no offense to J.K.
53:31Dobbins, who, when he was coming out of college, I really liked.
53:34It's just injuries are kind of his thing. But I do like Coleman better than Harvey if I had to pick one
53:41and just, you know, a blind taste test. Harvey was a frustrating watch for me.
53:45He's a very frustrating watch. He's kind of like the opposite of Coleman, too.
53:50Coleman's like the substance. Like, Harvey's the more electric back.
53:53Just bring a little spice. You know what? My other one was Chris Rodriguez for the J.K.
53:58Yeah, I have him on my list. Okay, because yeah, Basial Toon.
54:01But I think that's more split to me. I think that's going to be like a 40-40-20 with LaQuinn Allen as the third guy.
54:08Staying away from that in fantasy. Oh, same. Same.
54:11Not touching it. That's how I am. Jaguars receivers.
54:14Jaguars running backs. I like you all, but nope.
54:16Not touching it in fantasy. Tribion Henderson's a fun one to rile up Patriots fans.
54:21I'm telling you, y'all never can hear it or Romano Stevenson.
54:24He's not coming up. I mean, I know he fumbles.
54:27Pass protection. They love him. And yeah. Short yardage.
54:30He's Mr. Steady Eddie in that situation. Yeah. I told you that's that.
54:34He's like the best shotgun runner of the past decade.
54:37The best running back out of shotgun. His advanced stats last year are incredible in terms of like rushing guards over expected for carry.
54:44All that. Okay. He's a fall. Just like the two guys we talked about, Coleman and Rodriguez, they all fall forward.
54:50So it's like, even though it's like they get hit at two, they get that one extra yard for three.
54:56That's like just adds up over time. Everybody knows that teams like the Texans and Broncos will have nasty pass rushes.
55:02The front that will take people by surprise is blank.
55:05Can you go first? Can you go first? I have a cop out answer.
55:10I have a cop out answer. Because it's not surprise.
55:13I just thought like maybe it's not what people are expecting right now.
55:17Mine was the Steelers because there's just like 30 line, but they're like really good.
55:21So it's not like a fun one. The Steelers.
55:24No, I mean, not mine. The little known Steelers.
55:26Why is it not much better? I went with the Bucks.
55:30The Bucks. Okay. That's a good one though. Yaya Diaby, Ruben Bain.
55:33So the point I actually wanted to make, I know a lot of it's like, wow, we're overreacting to one Ruben Bain hump move.
55:40Okay. Yes. But a couple of things about the Bucks.
55:43One, Klajikasi barely played last year. People forget that.
55:46He was injured. And it looked like before he got injured, he was trending up as a pass rusher.
55:52And then the airport. They signed Al-Qurin Muhammad, which I think is like sneaky good depth.
55:57It was really productive. Yeah, good call. Good shout out.
56:00But the other thing I want to mention is Yaya Diaby is good.
56:03Like he's not a tier one pass rusher for sure.
56:06But I think he's definitely got a case for tier two.
56:10And now you put him with Bain Jr. And suddenly that could, one of them is going to get really unlocked by the presence of the other.
56:18So I just felt really like, well, I took a step back and then obviously you have Aya.
56:23So when you take a step back, you kind of look at everyone.
56:27I'm like, this is actually not just a sneaky upside group.
56:30It's a sneaky deep group now. Mm-hmm. And different body.
56:33I mean, I don't want to misfit toys, but that's perfect for Todd Bowles.
56:38Like everybody's like oddly shaped and weirdly built. You know, it's like ones and zeros.
56:42Kansi next to Veya is one of my biggest visual defense attack comments.
56:46Yeah. Veya. I know. Veya, Kansi. I mean, Veya all next to each other.
56:50And then you get Aya Sean Robinson, who's like the ideal D-lineman.
56:54But then even I'm way bigger on our, I always say this word.
56:58I got to find a new word. Bullish on the Bucs overall and the defense though, as I've kind of just marinated on it all.
57:05Like, because even linebacker wise, I like what they did.
57:08Like, yeah, they, I don't know. I am way higher on the Bucs than I was even six weeks ago.
57:14Oh man, Trotter looked good. Trotter. Like Anzalone. Anzalone is just a professional linebacker.
57:18Yep. Which is better than what they had. No offense to Levante David, who's amazing, but he's old Levante David.
57:24It's not that. Yeah. So that's a good one.
57:27That's better than mine. The other one I had just because, because I already mentioned him was Walter Nolan was the Cardinals having a sneaky Josh Sweat.
57:35He was good. Walter Nolan. Zayvon Collins is not a bad top three.
57:39Baron Browning throwing him in there. Roy, my guy, Roy Lopez.
57:42He doesn't rush the passer, but Darius Robinson's whatever.
57:45But they actually have some juice that I don't think people realize right now.
57:49But again, that's more if they're healthy, we'll see.
57:52They might never have a lead, but we'll know.
57:54That was the other one. I considered the Chiefs for all the reasons I laid out earlier of defense and the line of the youth.
58:02Also, FAU looked good in the preseason. Just like, what if he turns out to be something?
58:07And then I threw out a hypothetical, which is what if the Cowboys have a Seahawks-like four-man rush where you've got superstar
58:14defensive tackles and then you just have waves of good pass rushers who are good against the run.
58:19Because I think that's what they're trying to do from the build and it could happen.
58:24But okay, the Bucs are the one that I like the best.
58:27That's a good answer. All right, moving on. Got two more.
58:31The blank are most likely to make a big midseason trade.
58:34This is from Jason H. This was nothing about rosters.
58:37This was just mindset. I said the Jaguars because that's what they do.
58:41I could see them doing a move for somebody, maybe not offense, maybe defense this year, where they just, okay, we got to get a linebacker.
58:49We got to get one more defensive line. It was something.
58:52Like that just boosts them, put them over the top because that James Gladstone is aggressive.
58:57And I like it. Jacoby Myers, like it's a joke, but it's real.
59:00Literally saved their offense last year. And so I think that's not going to stop them now that they're like, hey, we can be aggressive.
59:08We can do this. This is ways we can add to the team.
59:12So that's more just a nothing looking at circumstances or anything.
59:15It's just purely looking at the team mindset. Honestly, it is team mindset that tends to drive GMs that trade a lot
59:22more so than like some, like when you look at like draft trades, it's just guys who do it a lot.
59:28So it's not the wrong way to look at this.
59:31I looked at circumstances though for my answer and I went with a team that has its draft picks.
59:37I checked to make sure which teams have their draft picks next year.
59:41Like I forgot like the Packers don't have first because of Micah Parsons.
59:44Yeah. Not that they would do it anyways, but the Chiefs have an extra third, by the way.
59:50But the team that I went with was a team that has a shocking amount of cap space.
59:55The Detroit Lions. So I feel like this, that's a team that because of their schedule is going to win a lot of games and because they're good.
60:04I'm just saying, try and think of what is the mindset of this team mid season.
60:08I could see them being first place in the division.
60:11The offense is great. Drew Petsing's worked out, but they recognize the defense isn't actually good enough.
60:16They're above their kicking out, kicking their coverage, which they did last year too.
60:21Calvin Shepard's a bright guy. Maybe Brian Branch is coming back.
60:24You're feeling good. But they know they need another pass rusher, another DB.
60:28And also, they know that this might be their shot, right?
60:31Yeah. Like, Tennessee North is like weird and wide open.
60:34So I just, I could see Brad Holmes channeling his inner Ramsdom and saying, YOLO, let's do this.
60:39Let's bring in someone on defense. And there's proof he'll trade.
60:43I mean, you traded Dave Montgomery for picks and juice scrugs.
60:46And thank God they traded for juice scrugs because Cade Mays got hurt.
60:50So no, I know. And also, you got to think if you just went like team weakness of who could trade, it's
60:57like which positions would get moved the easiest. Like safety is one of those to me.
61:01Like that. I mean, last year, the Chargers and the Ravens traded a low heat.
61:06Yeah. Great point. So, yeah. No. So that's a, I like that with the Lions because it feels like they know this
61:12version of their window, whatever you want to put it, this version of the Lions, this feels like the last chapter of it.
61:19And then we'll move on to the new one.
61:22So that's a good one too. Trade for Denzel Ward maybe.
61:25Ooh. Denzel Ward. Oh, Browns are trading. Yeah. Yeah.
61:28I can see that. That's good. I know. Oh, I would call up the Browns all the time.
61:33I bet you guys like to trade. Denzel Ward makes sense in that defense.
61:37Mm-hmm. Good fit. Mm-hmm. That's a fun one. Yeah.
61:40All right. Last question. I fear that we may have the same one.
61:44Oh. The quarterback who people are going to change their tune on after this season is blank.
61:49It's like two of my guys. So it's either it's Trevor Lawrence or CJ Stroud.
61:54So pick one. I will with Trev. Trevor, I think it's already happened a little bit.
61:58Like it's already starting to like where people are coming up on it.
62:02But yeah, that could be a total change tune with him.
62:06But I'll say Stroud. So we get to talk about two guys.
62:09Stroud for me, which is because just how the last playoffs ended last year.
62:13Totally understand. I also want people to remember that he was playing with like backup tight ends and rookie receivers, day two
62:20receivers and Xavier Hutchinson and all that stuff. So Stroud, I'm not saying, oh, this guy's gonna be an all pro this year.
62:27But a guy that I think is, oh, yeah, he gets the extension.
62:31Oh, he deserves it too. And like, yeah, he's winning.
62:34The Texans are winning with that defense and the emergence of Stroud, just predicting how narratives go and everything like that.
62:40A reemergence of Stroud. So I think how his offseason kind of narratives have gone, like, yeah, like I think even if
62:47he just plays how we play last year, people will just go, yeah, he's better.
62:51And it's like he was like the 12th best, 14th best quarterback last year.
62:55That's exactly what he is. I went with Trevor because I just feel more confident in that offense.
63:01And I don't think people are as like super nuanced about it.
63:04Like, I think even if Stroud, I, okay, so, you know, I feel the same way you do about Stroud and his circumstances last year.
63:12I'm a little bit more skeptical about whether or not those circumstances improve.
63:16They're already dealing with some injuries and whatnot. Whereas with Lawrence, even though I don't love the offensive line and I do
63:22worry a little bit that the run game isn't going to be above average, we'll see.
63:27Everything else is still there. Liam Cohen, the continuity, the pass catchers.
63:30He gets to actually stay in the same offense.
63:33You know, I just feel like all the components are there for him in a way that lends itself to more sustained success.
63:40That's a good one. No, I'm very high on both of these teams, actually.
63:44Texans and Jags. Like, I really am on both of them.
63:48Two of my favorite teams of the AFC and really look at the whole NFL, you know, because like you mentioned, it's like feels like Ram Seahawks.
63:56Then it feels like a gap or at least a half tier between everybody else, at least to me.
64:01And I know that I think these two teams are the ones that are exciting, like emerging teams.
64:07And really my, I think my favorite offseason take I've had was that we'll have a first time MVP this year.
64:13And these two, you know, Trevor could be that, you know, if the Jags had that type of year.
64:19I'm not saying that's my bet, but you know, Dak Prescott, like all these types of guys.
64:24There's a lot of openness openings for that type of narrative this year.
64:28We actually, on my pod, Ben and I picked Burrow as the favorite with Lawrence as the dark horse.
64:33Who would both be obviously first time. But like, it does, I agree.
64:37There's definitely, it feels pretty open right now. I actually am going to pick the Jags as the team that could make
64:44me look dumb now because I feel like I've just been gassing them up all.
64:48I know. I feel like I was high on them and I'm like, oh God, I gotta check myself now.
64:54Well, I know because I said Lawrence, I said Campanile, I just feel that they have the potential to be one of the more balanced teams.
65:02Like so many of the teams in the NFL right now, when I think about them headed to the season are, if
65:09one side of the ball can be average, the NFC North, the Texans, the Cowboys and Bengals.
65:14We're just like, if this is average, if the defense is average, whereas the Jags, I don't think that's like, I know that they're both above average.
65:22To me, the question is just, can they both be top 10?
65:25Right. Like, but the floor on, right. Totally. But the floor on both sides of the ball is high.
65:31Yeah. Yeah. And, and both coaches have already shown that both coaches, meaning Liam Cohen and Campanile is that both sides of
65:38the ball shown that they can adjust, that they have good game plans, that they're good on third down, which is stuff that matters for playoff time.
65:46Again, that's how you make a run is that you have to have these, you have to have these coaches that can game plan.
65:53These one-off game plans are hyper-focused. Playoff football is different than regular season football.
65:57It's just, they're so hyper-focused. And these, both of these coaching staffs or both sides of the ball have shown that.
66:03But so like, yeah, like including the Texans here, it's like, all right, the only staff that has it is the Texans offense.
66:10You know? So it's like, all right, is that the tiebreaker?
66:13You know? I trust you. I've gone back and forth on this a billion times.
66:18So. Yeah. I, I. Like the Texans now, or the Jags now have, they have the three, they can go 11 personnel and look awesome.
66:25They could go multi-tight ends and they have the guy, the horses to do that, like Borkerch or whatever, but he actually can block.
66:33They have that. They have that. They have a little O-line depth.
66:36It's not great. Like O-line, that's the thing that's common.
66:39It's the one thing that worries me. But. But same with the Texans, right?
66:43You know? So it's like, yeah. I think like Anton Harrison is a better player than Ante Arsari, for example.
66:49So I, I just think that they have better players.
66:52Yeah. I think. And then like defensively, like again, like they're not as good as the Texans, obviously, but they're pretty damn good.
66:59And I like your point about like the adjustments over the course of the season.
67:04Like I thought Campanita put together some really good play with game fans for really challenging opponents, by the way.
67:10This was not a defense that like just feasted on inferior competition.
67:13It was a defense where, you know, yes, they had a lot of turnovers, but like success rate.
67:19And the run defense, all very good. They tackled well.
67:22And now they add a cornerback who I think has got like unbelievable potential and Travis Hunter playing full time.
67:28Oh, I'm so Jags pilled. I don't know. That's they, they could, they could hurt me for sure.
67:33I'm trying to go to other shows to waver me off the Jags.
67:37And here I come on to your show. And now it's like, we didn't even talk to Jordan Lewis's breakout year, Montero
67:43Brown, all these guys that they have. No, but that's the thing about Travis Hunter is now.
67:49It's awesome. I know. Really good safety. Yeah, I know.
67:52I know. I know. And the Travis Hunter thing is real though.
67:55Like he's so talented that it's like, oh yeah, this guy, this guy that went number two, even if he should have
68:02gotten number two overall as a corner, even in the whole two-way play stuff.
68:06Like he was still talented enough to play, be a top five pick at corner.
68:10And it's like, now you just get to focus on that mostly.
68:14Yeah, and Lee Quirk can just bring in on certain casting plans and have fun with him.
68:19Yeah. All right. This is really fun. Thanks, Mina.
68:22I didn't even, like, I don't think I even did a Super Bowl pick.
68:26It's the Rams. Boom. There you go. Shocker. Should I just go Cowboys and just have fun with it?
68:32I mean, what do you really think? Rams. Yeah.
68:34I'm not saying, I'm not one of those, they're going to go 17-0 and no one can still.
68:40No, no. I don't think that at all. I think they'll actually go like 12-5, 13-4.
68:44I don't think they'll run it at all. But they're just so deep and have so much talent.
68:50And they have such good coaches. And it's like, yeah, like O-line depth.
68:54That's a good problem to have. But then I get to the Cowboys.
68:58I'm like, running back depth is your issue. So you're looking pretty good.
69:01Just keep circling it back. I'm trying to think who else.
69:05Who else would you even throw in there? Like Seahawks, too, of course.
69:09Because they are the ones, I mean, they hold the belt.
69:12And everything runs through Seattle. I think while Mike McDonald is the coach in Seattle, they could beat anyone.
69:18That sounds... I wholeheartedly agree. I just think that.
69:20I wholeheartedly agree. He's one of those dudes. I actually feel better about their offense than I thought I would once I preview them.
69:28I'm really interested in seeing the run game and what it looks like and what the little tweaks are and stuff.
69:34I know. I'm pretty high on their offense. But more than that, yeah, I think they'll be up there.
69:39AFC-wise, I've been saying Broncos just because of how deep and balanced they are.
69:44Ravens, I think, have the highest ceiling. Right now.
69:46Yeah. Bills, I want to see the defense week one and then I can adjust.
69:51I just don't. I don't know yet. I know.
69:54I've had them have a placeholder this whole offseason, whether that's fair or not.
69:58But it's just like, I'm just like, I'll get to you.
70:01Like, I'll get to you. I'm like, let me see this.
70:04Yep. Let me see it. I'm super high on Jim Leonard.
70:08Like, I really am. But it's also, does he have the horses to do what he wants to do?
70:13I don't know. So, very high on maybe what they could be.
70:17But again, it's ideas and theory right now. All right.
70:20I'm sure he'll be back on this show, but I will also hopefully join your show, Football 301.
70:25People, check it out wherever you get your podcasts.
70:28It is an excellent program. As I mentioned, I will be back later with Dominique Foxworth to preview week one.
