A.J. Brown

NegativeMatchup29:19

A.J. Brown is mentioned in the context of the Eagles-Titans Week 2 matchup, where the Eagles are favored. The discussion centers on Tennessee's offensive line struggles and the Titans' draft position outlook, but no specific projection or role change is detailed in this excerpt.

Insight page
NegativeInjury44:16

AJ Brown is out for Week 2 against Pittsburgh; his absence significantly impacted the Patriots' receiving group and passing game in Week 1, suggesting the offense will struggle without him.

Insight page

Aaron Rodgers

PositiveProjection67:09

Mina Kimes is higher on Rodgers than others, believing he will be better another year removed from his Achilles injury; she picked Pittsburgh to win the division based partly on confidence in Rodgers' continued recovery and improvement, though she notes the Steelers' Week 1 numbers were suppressed by drops rather than poor quarterback play.

Insight page

Antonio Williams

PositiveRole31:58

Showed impressive route-running ability and athleticism in Week 1, with quick releases reminiscent of Stefan Diggs; needs more snaps to develop; comparison comp is Jaden Reed based on quickness and route-running traits.

Insight page
PositiveMatchup63:24

Antonio Williams presents a fun matchup opportunity in Week 2 against Dallas' secondary; Mina Kimes identified him as a key player to target given the Cowboys' defensive vulnerabilities.

Insight page

Blake Corum

PositiveUsage60:41

Blake Corum hit explosive plays in Week 1 against the Niners; he and Kyron combined for a 52% success rate on the ground, showing the Rams' run game was working when they stayed committed to it, though they abandoned it later in the game.

Insight page

Bo Nix

NegativeRole46:35

Mina Kimes and Lenny discussed Bo Nix's struggles in Week 1, noting he failed to convert a third-and-four with a poor throw on the wrong shoulder and missed open receivers like Jalen Waddell on a wheel route. The conversation centered on Nix's reluctance to throw intermediate routes over the middle of the field and his inability to see or live in that world, limiting the Broncos' offensive potential despite acquiring Waddell to unlock that aspect.

Insight page
NegativeRole48:40

Bo Nix had accuracy and decision-making issues in Week 1 against Jacksonville: threw a wrong-shoulder pass to Jalen Waddle on third-and-four and missed an open wheel route to Waddle; these early-game miscommunications suggest adjustment needed in Week 2.

Insight page

Brenton Strange

PositiveUsage52:45

Brenton Strange, Jaguars tight end, is expected to be targeted by offensive coordinator Liam Cohen in Week 2 against Denver, particularly in coverage situations against linebacker Singleton. This suggests increased usage in the passing game as part of Jacksonville's balanced offensive attack.

Insight page

Bryce Young

PositiveProjection12:48

Bryce Young was described as having a great Week 1 performance against Chicago, making really good throws; the Panthers' skill players and offensive line looked excellent, suggesting positive offensive momentum heading into Week 2 against Atlanta.

Insight page

C.J. Stroud

PositiveMatchup5:12

C.J. Stroud torched the Bills defense on in-breakers in Week 1, going 14 for 19 for 173 yards and a touchdown. Stroud is always very good on in-breakers, and this performance demonstrates the Bills' vulnerability on digs and posts that could be exploited by other offenses like the Lions in Week 2.

Insight page
NegativeUsage20:33

Mina Kimes notes that the Bengals will likely try to exploit CJ Stroud's intermediate passing game, which was a focus area for Cincinnati's defense in Week 1.

Insight page

Caleb Williams

NegativeMatchup12:00

Caleb Williams was able to take off and gain 20+ yards on scrambles against the Panthers' weak run defense in Week 1, indicating the Panthers' defensive struggles could continue to allow mobile quarterbacks to exploit gaps in Week 2.

Insight page

D.J. Moore

PositiveRole7:00

Mina Kimes noted that DJ Moore is already in Josh Allen's trust tree right out of the shoot, with Allen trusting him in tight quarters. She highlighted a specific touchdown throw where Allen worked across the field to hit Moore on the right sideline, and expressed confidence that if the Bills continue this connection all year, it will be difficult to stop.

Insight page

D'Andre Swift

PositiveUsage9:31

Swift posted a 56% success rate against Chicago's run defense in Week 1 and was not stuffed once; Mina Kimes noted three-level defensive failures (defensive line caved in, safeties got tossed) enabled his rushing success, suggesting the Panthers' weak run defense could be exploited again in Week 2 against Atlanta.

Insight page

Dalton Kincaid

PositiveRole6:25

Mina Kimes expressed enthusiasm about seeing Dalton Kincaid healthy and making explosive plays in Week 1, noting she was a big fan coming through the draft process and ranked him in her top ten. She compared him to Zach Ertz as a feel player with real awareness in space, and highlighted that the Bills hit a couple explosive plays with him, suggesting upside when healthy and available.

Insight page
PositiveMatchup24:00

Kincaid was heavily targeted on 50-50 balls against Derek Stingley in Week 1 against Buffalo; the Texans defense wants opponents to throw short and rally to tackle rather than go over their heads, which could create similar opportunities for Kincaid against Cincinnati's secondary.

Insight page

Dalton Schultz

NegativeUsage3:12

Schultz was targeted in the Texans' Week 1 passing attack against the Bills, with Maxwell Harrison taking his lumps against him in coverage; this reflects Schultz's role in the receiving game but does not indicate elevated usage or breakout performance.

Insight page

Derrick Henry

PositiveMatchup69:14

Derrick Henry dominated Baltimore's run defense with 144 yards and four 10-plus yard runs in Week 1; Mina Kimes notes that Indianapolis' defensive line and safeties/corners struggled to tackle, and Kansas City's offensive philosophy this year is to make a tackle, suggesting Henry's success is a template for how KC can attack Indianapolis' weak run defense.

Insight page
PositiveMatchup70:19

Derrick Henry benefited significantly from Lamar Jackson's dual-threat presence in Week 1, which forced defenses to account for Jackson in the run game and opened up running lanes. Against Kansas City in Week 2, Patrick Mahomes does not present the same type of run threat, meaning Henry will face a more focused defensive approach. However, the matchup remains favorable given Kansas City's defensive adjustments and the Ravens' commitment to the run game.

Insight page

Drake Maye

NegativeRole44:01

Drake Maye was trying to do too much in Week 1 against Seattle, forcing difficult throws rather than taking easy completions; Mina Kimes expects he'll make adjustments and the Patriots will be more conservative, which means fewer turnovers but also a lower-scoring offense against Pittsburgh.

Insight page
NegativeMatchup45:08

Drake Maye has shown a tendency to force the ball into split safety coverage against Seattle multiple times; Patrick Graham's Steelers defense may exploit this weakness in Week 2, using a split safety look similar to what Seattle showed.

Insight page
NegativeRole73:22

Mina Kimes observed that Drake Maye was trying to do too much in the Patriots' Week 1 game against Seattle, extending beyond his role; this over-extension manifested not just in the late-game interception but throughout the game, suggesting a pattern of overreaching rather than a single play mistake.

Insight page

Drew Lock

PositiveProjection65:36

Mina Kimes projects Drew Locke can attack the Cardinals' defense if kept clean; she cited his 7-for-7, 160-yard, 1-TD perfect passer rating performance under center against New England using play action as evidence of his ability to execute in a clean pocket; she notes he's willing to attack downfield and create mismatches through the passing game, though accuracy and decision-making suffer under pressure.

Insight page
NegativeProjection66:51

Mina Kimes frames the Seahawks-Cardinals matchup as a 'Can Drew Locke give you two touchdowns' kind of game, suggesting modest offensive expectations; she believes Seattle's defense will rise to the occasion and that Locke can do enough for Seattle to win, but the game will be close.

Insight page

Geno Smith

NegativeProjection24:54

Smith played well in Week 1, though the speaker humorously deflects on detailed commentary about his performance, noting that there is active discussion and enthusiasm about his play among analysts.

Insight page

Jalen Hurts

NegativeProjection32:39

Expected to rely on scramble-based offense and throws outside the numbers in Week 2 against Titans due to offensive line concerns; under-center run game was ineffective in Week 1 due to line struggles.

Insight page

Jared Goff

PositiveMatchup3:00

Mina Kimes identifies Jared Goff hitting in-breakers against the Bills defense as a key for Lions-Bills Week 2 matchup. The Bills showed vulnerability on digs and posts in Week 1 against Houston; C.J. Stroud exploited this with 14 for 19 for 173 yards and a touchdown on in-breakers. Goff's indoor performance advantage and the Lions' ability to run the football create favorable conditions early in the season against Buffalo.

Insight page
PositiveMatchup3:12

Goff is primed to exploit a glaring weakness in the Bills defense on in-breakers; C.J. Stroud torched Buffalo 14 for 19 for 173 yards and a touchdown on digs and posts in Week 1, and Goff is phenomenal—probably the best quarterback in the NFL at throwing in-breakers—making this a favorable matchup for Detroit's passing attack.

Insight page

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

PositiveMatchup67:10

JSN has the ability to exploit Seattle's blitz strategy against Arizona; Mina Kimes notes that when Seattle sends extra bodies because they can't get home with just their front four, JSN can pay that off, and they've already seen what that looks like in terms of explosive plays.

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

PositiveMatchup63:37

Jaden Daniels' athleticism gives Washington an opportunity to exploit Dallas' edge rusher Malachi Lawrence on zone reads; Lawrence was slow on the take in Week 1, and the Commanders can attack him in the run game with Daniels' mobility.

Insight page

Jayden Reed

NegativeRole32:05

Serves as comparison point for Antonio Williams based on quickness and route-running traits; both receivers show similar athleticism profiles.

Insight page

Jaylen Waddle

NegativeUsage61:10

Jalen Waddle had multiple drops and miscommunications in Week 1 against Jacksonville: a one-step slant drop that had explosive potential, a wheel route that went unthrown by Bo Nix, and a third-and-four incompletion on a wrong-shoulder throw from Nix that netted only two yards; Mina Kimes had identified him as the perfect missing piece for Denver's offense before the trade.

Insight page

Jeremiyah Love

PositiveRole67:29

Mina Kimes identifies Jeremiah Love as Arizona's best matchup opportunity against Seattle's secondary; he only caught two balls last week, and getting him more involved in the pass game is Arizona's best shot to exploit Seattle's weaknesses.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeRole22:00

Bengals offense in Week 1 operated with quick ball release and low average depth of target, similar to their historical approach, but with increased 12 personnel usage and strong run game production from that package. Mina Kimes suggests Cincinnati may lean more into play-action, under-center looks, and tight end usage against Houston's aggressive defense, following Buffalo's successful downfield attack strategy.

Insight page

Jordan Love

NegativeMatchup25:43

Love was fortunate to escape Week 1 alive; the key concern for Week 2 against the Jets is the matchup between the Jets' strong pass rush and Green Bay's horrendous offensive line from Week 1, which poses a significant downside risk.

Insight page
PositiveProjection28:48

Mina Kimes is picking Green Bay to win Week 2 against the Jets, citing Jordan Love as too good and noting that the Jets' backend doesn't match up well with the Packers' skill players. Despite being very nervous about Green Bay's offensive line, she believes Love's talent is the deciding factor.

Insight page

Josh Allen

PositiveProjection5:18

Mina Kimes highlighted Josh Allen's Week 1 performance against the Texans as the best version of him she's seen, noting he was in command and control despite facing a defense known for flustering quarterbacks. She emphasized his composure—"cleats in the ground"—and how slow the game looked for him, suggesting he's operating at an elite level heading into Week 2 against Detroit.

Insight page
PositiveMatchup6:00

Allen delivered the best version of himself against the Lions defense in Week 1, displaying command and control throughout the game; the Lions defense typically flusters opponents and causes frenetic play, but Allen was clear and composed, setting up a high-scoring Bills offense against Detroit in Week 2.

Insight page
PositiveMatchup9:00

Mina Kimes expressed confidence in Josh Allen's ability to attack the Lions defense in Week 2, noting there are so many areas for him to exploit behind Detroit's defensive line. She struggled to see how the Lions defense gets stops against the Bills' passing attack, particularly given the Lions' defensive vulnerabilities exposed in the second half against the Saints.

Insight page
PositiveMatchup21:48

Josh Allen and the Bills had significant success throwing downfield against Houston in Week 1 by exploiting the Texans' aggressive defense and using play-action, moving the pocket, and chipping pass rushers to buy time. This blueprint is noted as a potential model for other offenses facing Houston.

Insight page

Justin Jefferson

PositiveMatchup28:08

Jefferson is a different animal compared to other college receivers; Mina Kimes was blown away by his tape after watching Houston and Minnesota offense. He's so dominant that commentators struggle not to scream 'throw it to Justin' mid-play, and Kimes joked she would throw it to him 40 times a game if she were the quarterback. This is relevant for Green Bay's Week 2 matchup, where the good news for the Packers is that Jefferson is not on the opposite side this week (Vikings play Houston, not Green Bay).

Insight page

Malik Willis

NegativeRole60:43

Willis ran too much under center in Week 1 against the Niners; Mina Kimes expected a more creative, wonky run game with Willis and A-Chan but the offense didn't deliver that style, limiting offensive versatility and conflict creation for defenses.

Insight page

Marlin Klein

PositiveRole4:15

Klein came on faster than the Texans expected, allowing Houston to work more 12-personnel and expand their offensive scheme; this accelerated development supports increased role and usage going forward.

Insight page

Marlon Mack

PositiveRole21:27

Mina Kimes expresses excitement about Marlon Mack's role in the Texans offense, noting he was on the field frequently in Week 1 and appears to be a key part of their 12 personnel package usage.

Insight page

Matthew Golden

PositiveProjection29:06

Mina Kimes projects Matthew Golden to have another good game in Week 2 against the Jets, despite her overall nervousness about the Green Bay Packers' offensive line and matchup concerns.

Insight page

Nico Collins

NegativeUsage3:12

Collins was part of a team-wide issue against the Bills defense in Week 1; while the initial impression was that he had two gigantic posts, the coverage breakdowns were distributed across the entire Texans receiving corps, not concentrated on Collins alone.

Insight page
NegativeUsage5:18

Nico Collins is mentioned in context of the Bills' vulnerability to in-breaker routes, with Mina Kimes suggesting Collins likely benefited from C.J. Stroud's success on digs and posts against Buffalo in Week 1.

Insight page

Parker Washington

NegativeRole49:56

Parker Washington received fewer snaps than rookie tight end Nate Bergercher in Week 1 against Cleveland, indicating limited deployment in the Jaguars' 12-personnel running game scheme.

Insight page
NegativeDepth Chart50:17

Parker Washington received fewer snaps than Nate Bergercher in Jacksonville's Week 1 game against Cleveland, indicating a reduced role in the Jags' 12 personnel running game.

Insight page

Pat Bryant

NegativeUsage47:00

Pat Bryant received heavy target volume in Week 1 against Kansas City, with the Broncos force-feeding him on plays where there was no decision to be made, such as bubble screens. Mina Kimes noted Bryant is a physical, tough player that Denver is high on, but questioned the emphasis on getting him the ball over more dynamic playmakers like Jalen Waddell.

Insight page

Patrick Mahomes

NegativeProjection70:47

Patrick Mahomes showed significant discomfort operating under center as a passer in Week 1 against Denver, going 0 for 4 on under-center throws. He consistently overthrows Taequan Thornton on deep shots from under center. Despite Kansas City's dominant 31-point output, Mahomes did not have to do much beyond scrambling; his best play was a pivot route to Travis Kelce that resulted in a 59-60 yard gain after a missed tackle. The pass game was not in rhythm under center, suggesting the Chiefs' passing attack may need to improve before facing tougher defenses.

Insight page

Rashee Rice

PositiveUsage72:39

Rasheed Rice was featured in Kansas City's goal-line run game alongside Travis Kelce, indicating involvement in the team's condensed-formation, run-heavy offensive scheme. Rice was part of a duo run at the goal line that showcased Kansas City's commitment to power running with multiple blockers engaged.

Insight page

Saquon Barkley

NegativeDepth Chart29:41

Saquon Barkley (referred to as 'Dickerson' in the transcript, likely a reference to Eric Dickerson or a misidentification) is not playing well for Philadelphia and has gone on IR, which was necessary. This creates a shuffle in the Eagles' offensive line, with Juergens moving to guard and Kendall moving to center, meaning two guys are at new positions.

Insight page

Stefon Diggs

NegativeMatchup6:00

Diggs is part of the Bills offense that will face the Lions defense in Week 2; the Lions defense has historically flustered opponents and caused frenetic play, though Josh Allen's Week 1 performance suggests the Bills may be better equipped to handle this matchup.

Insight page
NegativeRole31:58

Comparison point for Antonio Williams' route-running ability and release quickness; Diggs expected to remain a featured target in Eagles offense.

Insight page

Tee Higgins

NegativeMatchup22:00

Bengals' potential shift toward more downfield passing and play-action concepts against Houston's aggressive defense could create opportunities for vertical passing game, though the specific execution remains uncertain.

Insight page

Travis Kelce

PositiveUsage72:44

Travis Kelce was heavily involved in Kansas City's run-heavy game plan in Week 1, including blocking assignments. He delivered an exceptional block on Nick Benioto during a goal-line duo run with Rasheed Rice, described as 'the best block I've ever seen Kelsey make' and 'as good as I've seen him block' over a decade-plus of viewing. Kelce's willingness to engage in the run game and his blocking prowess are key components of Kansas City's offensive strategy, though his receiving role may be limited when the offense operates under center.

Insight page

Trevor Lawrence

PositiveProjection50:48

Trevor Lawrence is part of a Jaguars offensive renaissance, attacking downfield aggressively; against Cleveland on throws over 2.5 seconds, he completed 10 of 14 for 189 yards and three touchdowns. Mina Kimes questions whether he can replicate this efficiency against Denver's defense, but notes that if the offensive line holds up again in Week 2, the Jaguars offense has a chance to finish in the top five this year.

Insight page

Trey McBride

PositiveMatchup68:14

Trey McBride is identified as an unbelievable tight end who gave Derwin James a tough time; Mina Kimes suggests Arizona might be able to attack Seattle's safeties through McBride in Week 2.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

PositiveMatchup70:11

Zay Flowers is on a significantly better matchup in Week 2 against Kansas City than he faced against Baltimore in Week 1. Sauce Gardner does not match up well with Flowers' style of wide receiver; Gardner's coverage profile is poorly suited to Flowers' skill set. Flowers is described as being 'on another planet' compared to the cornerback coverage he will face from Kansas City, suggesting a major upgrade in receiving opportunity and production potential.

0:31instant replay means you're playing fetch again. That's Lenny.
0:33I'm Mina Kimes. Joining me today, not the first time on a show, but the first time since he joined Omaha with
0:40his Move the Sticks podcast, Daniel Jeremiah. Welcome back.
0:43Hey, what's up, teammate? How are you doing? I'm doing great.
0:46I'm in New York. I was in Kansas City for Monday Night Football.
0:50I'm excited to actually be talking about games. You were here to help me preview week two.
0:55Not as many banger games as week one. Yeah, but still, nonetheless, some really good ones.
1:00But before we get started, I do, where can folks, you are now, Move the Sticks, new feed.
1:06Where can folks find it before we dive into these games?
1:09I appreciate you, Mina. It is up. The video, the full show lives on the ESPN NFL channel on their YouTube channel.
1:16And then I have the Move the Sticks YouTube channel where we do a bunch of different cutups and things with the
1:22draft and what other stuff that I see. And then you just, the audio feed, Move the Sticks wherever you find it.
1:29So it's been fun. Had a lot of folks on.
1:32Had three GMs on already. And it's like, you know, it's football season.
1:36I lucked out because I missed out that my gap was during prediction season.
1:40So I got to sit out the three months, the three months of just, you know, let's just make a prediction.
1:47I got to skip that this year. Yeah, really nice of the Rams and Broncos, two teams I thought would be in the Super Bowl to lay eggs.
1:55We call it the Texans. Hey, it's a long season.
1:58Well, the Texans looked pretty good. We'll get to them, you know, offensively where maybe the bigger questions were.
2:04We're going to go chronologically, as always. We're talking about every game, some a little bit longer than others.
2:10Some of them, both DJ and I will pick a key.
2:13Some of them, just one of us will do.
2:16But both of us are obviously talking about Thursday Night Football because this is kind of the game of the week.
2:22It really is. Lions-Bills is going to be fireworks.
2:25The Lions, kind of fortunate, I would say, that this is early in the season in Buffalo as opposed to late in
2:31the year because there's so much good regardless because of the ability to run the football.
2:36But Jared Goff, we know, indoors is a different act.
2:39And that's my side of the ball, so I'll go first if that's okay.
2:44Lions offense against Bills defense. So the Bills defense, it was an interesting performance.
2:48There was week one, things I liked, things I didn't.
2:51One of the areas, things that I thought, like some young players, obviously Deion Walker had an amazing game.
2:57I thought Gregory Soe was good. But I think you did see a lot of their vulnerabilities against Houston who are going
3:03to get to that offense later on. So for my key, I wrote Jared Goff hitting in-breakers against this Bills defense because going back and watching C.J.
3:12Stroud against them, he simply torched them on digs, posts.
3:15And I was on in-breakers, C.J. Stroud, who's always very good on in-breakers, 14 for 19 for 173 yards and a touchdown against the Bills.
3:22Going back and watching, I think you hear that, you think, okay, Nico Collins probably had like two gigantic posts.
3:28But it was kind of everyone. I went back and watched all of them.
3:32You had Jalen Knoll on a dig. It was a blown coverage.
3:36Marlon Klein, the young tight end on a crosser.
3:39Booty had a post on Igbanison. Jared Wayne had a dig on Benford.
3:43Xavier Hutchinson cooked D. Alford. Maxwell Harrison took his lumps against Dalton Schultz.
3:47So it was a team-wide issue. And that's why I bring it up as a key because I don't just think it's
3:53like, okay, cool, I'm in Ross St. Brown. I really think the Lions and Detroit Goff, who is, or Detroit Goff, Jared
4:00Goff, who is phenomenal, probably the best quarterback in the NFL, honestly, at throwing in-breakers, is primed to take advantage of what
4:07I thought was a pretty glaring weakness in this Bills defense week one.
4:11Yeah, that's a good point. And also, like, we'll get to the Houston stuff later.
4:15But, like, that's, in talking to them, that they wanted to be a little bit more of a 12-personnel team.
4:21Marlon Klein came on faster than they expected. And that allows you to work a little bit more on that side of the field.
4:29I could go in a million different directions on the Houston side, but I'm going to stay on task here.
4:35Greg Rousseau, I looked this up because when I watched it, I liked him a lot coming out.
4:40And I thought this was a really good game for him last week.
4:44And when I watched his production, I went back through my notes.
4:48Mina, he's been in the league forever. He's 26.
4:50He's only 26 years old. He came in as, like, a 20-year-old.
4:54Yes. Wow. And he has, like, if you just kind of follow him, he's just continued to get a little bit better.
5:01Yeah. So when I was watching that, I'm like, okay, he's probably, like, 29, 30.
5:05Like, these are kind of the years. And I'm like, dude, he's 26 years old.
5:10Like, there's a lot of runway left. That's crazy.
5:13Yeah, he was very good in this game. Walker was very good in this game.
5:17I thought the Lions' offensive line held up pretty well week one because that was something I was interested in because it's just so much change.
5:25You got Sewell kicking to the left side. Blake Miller.
5:28You got young players on the interior. They had to replace Cade Mays with Juice Scruggs.
5:33Honestly, across the board, I thought pretty decent. They got good removal in the run game, which was an issue for them last year.
5:40And that's going to be another problem for Buffalo.
5:43Like, Houston looked better running the ball, but they're not Detroit.
5:46So I think that the combination of the run game and the offensive line looking better, plus Jared Goff and his strengths,
5:53are just a tough matchup for this Bills defense behind the pass rush.
5:57And, you know, like CJ Stroud, until the end, was going toe for toe.
6:01Like, with Josh Allen in that game, less people forget.
6:04So it should be a high-scoring one. You've got the other side, which is another reason why this should be a high-scoring game.
6:11Bills offense versus the Lions defense. I said after watching that that I thought, and this is – I'm not looking for
6:18a power statement, but it was the best version of Josh that I saw where everything he did, he was so kind
6:25of in command and control in that game. And that's a defense that's done it to him in the past and just about everybody else.
6:32They fluster you. They cause you to be a little bit frenetic and skittish.
6:36And he was very much cleats in the ground, and everything, you know, was just slow.
6:41It looked like the game was really, really slow for Josh.
6:45I was pumped up to see Kincaid healthy and out there and making explosive plays as someone who was a big fan
6:51of his coming through the draft process. He was one of my top ten guys.
6:56And I don't know that it was wrong as much as he just hasn't been available.
7:01Like, when he's out there, he's just got a real – I wrote down Zach Ertz was my comp for him when
7:07he was coming out because he just had a real – he's a real feel player.
7:12He's real aware of what's going on and working in space.
7:16And they hit a couple explosives with him, which was good to see.
7:20And then DJ Moore, like, is already in the trust tree, like, right out the shoot.
7:24I mean, he just – he trusts him to put the ball in a little tighter quarters.
7:30And that throw that he made on the touchdown where he starts working on left, outside the numbers, and Josh works all
7:36the way across the field and hits him on the right sideline.
7:40I'm like, well, if they're going to do that all year long, good luck stopping that group.
7:45And that was against the Texans. This is the Lions secondary.
7:48And I got to say, ooh, boy. Especially second half.
7:51If it's second half Lions secondary. Well, here's the thing, Mina.
7:55When I looked at the numbers, like, DJ Reed gave up six for $1.41 according to the numbers, right?
8:01So I'm like, I'm going to watch this and see, like, how much blood does he have on his hands in this whole thing.
8:08It's a little misleading. Like, you've got a broken play, which ends up being a huge chunk play.
8:13I'm not going to put that on him. A lot of off coverage.
8:17When you're in off coverage against Alave, and you're giving him a three-way go, like, I don't know what you want there.
8:24But he got torched. I found that really interesting, right?
8:27Because this is a Lions defense that last year played a ton of man, blitzed very heavily.
8:32And in this game, there was clearly, they wanted to keep a roof on Alave, and they were worried about his speed.
8:39To your point, they were playing a lot of zone, a lot of off.
8:43And in the second half, Tyler Sheck started solving.
8:46He had struggled with pressure in the first, he was really bad in the first half of the game.
8:51But in the second, I mean, he threw for like 300 plus yards in the second half of the game.
8:58It was crazy. And like you said, it wasn't just Reed.
9:01It was a team-wide affair. I think they were trying to protect their safeties and just got so exposed.
9:07And now you have this Bills passing attack coming to town that, as you said, was just bombs away week one.
9:13And I really struggled to see how the Lions defense gets stops here.
9:17I guess, I mean, it's especially coming off of the Texans.
9:20I think like the run defense in Detroit is decent, but behind that defensive line, there's just so many areas for Josh to attack.
9:28So yeah, I think it's a pretty even, because I just think, I also think the Lions offense has an edge.
9:34Um, this being in Detroit makes it a little bit nerve wracking to go in on Buffalo, but I just can't get
9:41the memory of watching that Lions defense in the second half against Tyler Schock out of my mind.
9:46So I think, I don't, I think the Bills defense is not, um, there's definitely issues there, but I feel like at
9:53least they might be able to get a couple stops from what, based on what I saw last week.
9:59So I'm going to go Buffalo here, but I feel like I haven't looked at the point total on this one.
10:05And I think both off, it's kind of like a who holds the pen last type game in my, in my opinion.
10:12Yeah. I feel like this Buffalo offense, like ace the midterm.
10:15And then now they're getting ready to just go take like a generic 10 point quiz.
10:20Um, and it's hard for me to see them not being successful there.
10:24So I'll take Buffalo. All right. We move on to a game.
10:27That's just me. Panthers Falcons. I will not force you to discuss, um, peers that, okay.
10:32So I was actually, I wanted to make sure I had the latest Falcons quarterback news.
10:37AKA, are we going to see Jack Strand? Sounds like Cooper rush.
10:41Who's not good, but Jack Strand is a possibility.
10:44I don't really know if it matters too much.
10:46Um, but actually kind of leads me to my key here, which is the Panthers run defense.
10:51Who boy. I mean, the Panthers defense as a whole against Chicago.
10:55I, I, this was quietly one of the more like, we think about like with a week one letdowns, the chargers, the Broncos, the Rams for sure.
11:03But I thought the Panthers defense would be way better than the product that they put out this last week.
11:09Like, and you know, I didn't think there were the Texans or whatever, but the Rams, but like this, they added a lot of talent.
11:17It was a group to look to be ascending last year.
11:20The last time we saw them, they were given Matthew Stafford hell.
11:24This was just dismal. And, and I'm focusing on the run obviously, because it's Atlanta.
11:28And it's the one thing we know is with B.
11:31John Robinson, they're going to run the ball. But like Deandre Swift, I mean, 56% success rate was not stuffed once going back and watching his runs too.
11:40It was just three level failures, like defensive line getting caved in, caved in the safeties.
11:45Merrig just get tossed. It was really bad. So, they just got to tackle better in this one.
11:50It's obviously a significantly easier offensive opponent than Chicago, but I, that to me is like the key here, because what we
11:57saw from that defense week one was not acceptable.
12:00Their personnel is better than that. Like when you look at, I thought in this game, the corners, you know, would be
12:06able to, to hold their own and you'd see middle of the field games.
12:11I thought love them would have a good game and burden would have a good game.
12:15They got burden. They got burden going early, but level didn't do a whole lot.
12:20And it was like, Oh, they're just going to run the ball down their throats.
12:25And anytime Caleb wants to take off and give himself 20, he can go get 20 himself as well.
12:30Yeah. I, I will say, um, well, it can't be that bad.
12:34Mina, they're there. They can't Carolina. Can't be that.
12:37There's too many good players on that defense for them to be that bad.
12:41The sad thing is also Bryce young was like, I mean, a lot of that has to do with the bears defense,
12:48which we'll get to, um, when we get to that game, which is also really bad, but yeah, he was great.
12:54He made some really good throws. The skill players looked excellent.
12:57Coker, the run game, the offense, I thought the Panthers offensive line looked good, but, um, yeah, there's an alternate reality that
13:04exists, you know, where Matthew Stafford doesn't get that drive at the end of the game.
13:09The Panthers win that game with Bryce young, having orchestrated a comeback against Matthew Stafford in the Rams, Bryce young gets paid in the off season.
13:17We spend all off season with everybody saying they overpaid him.
13:20They've made, this is the next to a contract.
13:23They've made a big mistake. And then even in this loss, you would have come out of that game going like, you know, no, he's fine.
13:31Like we're, we're okay with that. And none, none of it happened, but it was this close to us being there.
13:37Falcons defense, better test for him than the bears ones based on the Bears defense, based on what we saw week one.
13:44So I, I, after that game, I thought Panthers offense pointed up Panthers defense pointed down, but this, that was also one
13:50of those, like, we got to adjust for week one opponent.
13:54A lot of teams, you're going to come out against the bears.
13:57You're going to say, wow, their defense, the, the, the bears offense is going to make a lot of defenses look bad
14:04and it's going to make some quarterbacks maybe look better than they are.
14:08So week one's a liar. Sure. Okay. You got Brown's bucks.
14:11God bless you. Yep. Brown's bucks. Um, the, the takeaway on the Cleveland side of things, watching Watson was this guy, he needs tons of space to operate.
14:20Like the, the good quarterbacks can operate in confined areas.
14:23He can't like it just, he can't. So if they're going to stay with him, they're going to have to get them
14:30on the move or they're going to have to really get deep with play action to give him a lot of space to operate.
14:37You saw it like the Denzel Boston, the deep throw late in the, when the game's over, but at least he's got
14:44some room and space and he can function. He cannot function in confined spaces.
14:48So if you're going to ask him to just kind of sit in the cockpit and do that, good luck.
14:54Um, the two rookies I'm keeping an eye on in this game, uh, Fano was a tough one right out to shoot the, the left tackle for Cleveland.
15:02Again, that's a, you know, it's a tough position to adjust to right away.
15:07And then Bain was quiet as a whisper on the Tampa side of things.
15:11Um, Marius Mims, just eat him like a snack.
15:14So I'm curious to see these two guys and we'll see how much they match up with each other on opposite sides.
15:20But, uh, I I'd like to see hopefully a little growth there.
15:24I, it's so funny. I watched that game thinking the Bengals box game pretty closely thinking like, okay, here we go.
15:30Ruben Bain looks so awesome in the preseason. Yeah.
15:33Yeah. Yeah. Be that combination. And I came away, the names I kept writing down were Kalijah can see.
15:39And then Ben Morrison who made so many, I mean, there's one play where T Higgins gets him on the T Higgins
15:46is just going to get you right. But I thought he was excellent in this last game against Cincinnati.
15:51He made a lot of plays flying down, blowing up short passes.
15:55He was good in coverage. And that's like, Oh, I'm sorry.
15:58I'm forgetting the, the name that I meant to start with.
16:02Oh my God. Josiah Trotter. I know he had the game of the week.
16:06He had the rookie game of the week. Pick, pick six sack.
16:10He was all over the field. And Jason Light had told me when I talked to him over the summer that how,
16:16how good this kid was going to be. And I was not totally in love with him when I watched him off the college stuff.
16:24So he was, I was like, okay, that's interesting.
16:27Let's see what that looks like. And he's far exceeded what I expected.
16:30Jason, like so good at drafting defense. Like, I mean, so many of those young players are really good, but I, but
16:37I think of what I want to say is that the box score is not really representative of what I saw from
16:44the defense because of all the turnover, the bucks offense turned it back up at the ball on the ground four times.
16:50So to go back to the bucks defense, I do think that this is going to be a game where against a
16:57very limited Browns offense, we're kind of realized, no, this bucks is defense is actually in a, I think they have the
17:04potential to finish as a top 10 unit. And this is a game where you're going to see why with the competition shifting a little bit.
17:12So I'm taking the bucks here. I imagine you are too.
17:15Yeah. I'll take the bucks. The one little nugget I would add on the end of this, I'm keeping an eye on
17:22this this year is we've talked so much about the most, you know, high scoring week one we've ever seen.
17:28Right. And the prolific offenses, we haven't talked about the defense as being crap.
17:32And I know miles Garrett is not there. Obviously burst comes over.
17:36That's a, you're going to be a different defense with that, but would you, is there anybody you'd rather be than maybe
17:42Jim Schwartz just sitting on the sideline this year, watching defense after defense, after defense look terrible and just go, I'm going
17:49to be, he's going to be the bell of the ball.
17:52Doesn't it put Seattle's performance in perspective? Like that, we were talking about that.
17:57Without even worry. Without even worry with half of their secondary injured to put up that defensive performance is a reminder of
18:03why there, I mean, again, you know, they didn't go against the bills.
18:07I get it. We'll see, you know, Jacoby Brissett's coming to town, but it really shows you how well coach that you,
18:14and I think the continuity there is a big factor in that.
18:18Um, all right. Oh, we forgot. I'm picking the Panthers over the Falcons, by the way, because we don't know.
18:24We didn't do that one. Yeah. Panthers. Yes. I'll take the Panthers over the Falcons as well.
18:29All right. Bengals Texans. This is a really good game.
18:32Um, you can go first. Cause we've kind of been, we were alluding a little bit to the Texans offense.
18:38You got Texans offense against Bengals defense. Fascinating matchup.
18:41Yeah. On Houston's offense, some of the stuff you kind of touched on Stroud working over the middle of the field.
18:47I think there was a ball that went over 25 yards.
18:50It was just, they just lived in the intermediate passing.
18:53All of that was where his sweet spot was.
18:56And he's a rhythm passer. So that fits him perfectly.
18:59So I like seeing that just, they didn't get a ton of pressures, but they, they were impactful pressures.
19:05He didn't get away from a lot of that.
19:08So I was, uh, looking at that Ingram got beat for a sack.
19:12Trent Brown got beat for a sack. It didn't take a lot of pressures for them to do damage in that game with Buffalo.
19:19So that'll be something I'm keeping an eye on.
19:22Cause the Cincinnati defense, there was a lot of pressure generated in that game.
19:26Uh, I didn't see what the overall pressure percentage was.
19:29It was high cause they were, they were back there consistently.
19:32Boy, Mafia was excellent. I thought, uh, in the, in the Tampa game.
19:36Um, yeah, I thought Cassius Howell had some nice moments too.
19:40They were trying more stuff too, with like simulated pressure.
19:43And game, I think we're kind of seeing the next phase of this Bengals defense.
19:47And it really, for me, the most interesting thing was the pressures.
19:51They had a lot of fire zones. Um, I thought the, so my big concern about the Bengals defense was the linebackers, right?
19:58Cause we know the corners are good. Dexhill and DJ Turner, you bring in Brian cook to stabilize things on the backend.
20:04Um, and the front is Dexter Lawrence. Now you got Mafe, you got whatever.
20:09They were better. So, uh, Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight.
20:1244 and 49. I can't remember. Yeah. And I will say, I thought, especially Carter, I thought had some good moments against
20:18Tampa because Tampa's game plan was as, and I thought they would do this really go after them, short passing screens, get the ball out quick.
20:26They were better. I still think they can be had.
20:29It's still to me, like the one probably biggest issue there.
20:33So I think like that, you talked about CJ living over that intermediate part of the field.
20:38I think we're really going to see them try that.
20:41I also, I thought the Texans run game looked better week one.
20:45It wasn't amazing against Buffalo, but it was certainly improved upon last year.
20:48I think so. We'll see. They're, they're like, um, Casey and their offensive line where they're better equipped to try and move
20:55people in the run game with this version of this group that they have versus asking those guys and, and pass protection to hold up throughout the game.
21:04So that's, that's an interesting one there. I, it's one of the things.
21:08Oh yeah. I had mentioned it earlier, but when you have Cincinnati getting the pressure, they've got in Houston working where they've worked 12 personnel.
21:15I'm curious how much of it do we see continue out there for Houston?
21:19They were doing that a lot at the beginning of the game.
21:23I feel like, and I think throughout definitely certainly more than last year.
21:27Obviously they barely used it last year. Marlon Klein was on the field a lot.
21:32You talked about him. I'm excited. I'm excited for Marlon Klein, but yeah.
21:36Anyways. Yeah. Who do you, you have the other side of these?
21:39I have the other side, uh, which is obviously the sexier side, an angry Texans defense.
21:44Yeah. A humiliated Texans defense. I would not want to be going up against them this week.
21:49I'll just start there. Um, I'm really interested after we just saw a Buffalo offense go bombs away and attack downfield, whether
21:56or not Cincinnati tries to do the same thing and how they get there.
22:00Because week one, bangles offense looked a lot like the bangles offense has always looked right.
22:05not, you know, Joe hit one deep pass, but the ball was out quick, not a terribly, um, high average depth of target.
22:12The only difference was that they, they actually use a lot more 12 personnel and were pretty damn good running the ball out of it.
22:20So that's something to monitor in Cincinnati. But, um, you know, the bills had so much success against Houston throwing downfield because Texans defense is very aggressive.
22:28And then they found ways to buy Josh time, play action, moving the pocket, chipping those past rushers.
22:33But, you know, that's not who this bangles offense has been.
22:37It's been something they've been talking about this off season.
22:40Oh, we want to put Joe under center. We want to do more play action.
22:44We want to put tight ends on the field.
22:47So I'm really interested, Daniel, if this, in this game with this opponent, as opposed to the last one, they maybe lean
22:54a little bit more into that transformation, especially after seeing what Buffalo did.
22:57I think you'd be crazy not to try and do what Buffalo did.
23:01I mean, you try it and then see, I think that this could be one of those feeling out, feeling out games.
23:08And like you said, it is going to be a salty group that comes out on the Houston side of things.
23:14The interesting thing was, you know, you talked about some of the chipping, but Dawkins got left alone a decent amount of times on the other side.
23:23And in that game. So I'll be curious to see who do they trust more on the tackle side of things to leave soloed.
23:30Mims should be. Should be Mims. But we'll, you know, we'll see.
23:34I'm going Houston here. This is going to probably be one of the more people going both ways.
23:39I haven't looked at the line, but I just think angry Texans defense.
23:43I think they match up better with Cincinnati than they do with Buffalo.
23:47Because I talked about this after the bills game, like the Texans defense wants you to be scared of the pass rush and throw the ball short.
23:55And then they rally and tackle. They don't want you to go over their heads like Buffalo did.
24:01So I think that 50, 50 balls at Stingley in that game.
24:04I was like, Oh my gosh, Josh, they were going at it.
24:08I mean, that's how, you know, Dalton Kincaid is like the fact that he was doing that to Derek Stingley and Kamara Laster is just insane.
24:16But, um, yeah, he's a good player. But anyways, um, yeah, I just think, and I also think we're going to disagree on these.
24:23I'm with you on. You're on Houston. I'm okay.
24:26I'll do an upset. That's too prideful. The lines.
24:29Yeah. Right. That's what the defense. I'm just like, they're, they're going to be so.
24:33No way. Yeah. But also for the actual football reasons that we talked about, let me see what this is.
24:39Okay. Houston is favored and it's home, but it's two and a half, three.
24:43So it's basically a pick him. So, you know, uh, okay.
24:47Uh, I have Packers jets. I'll do this one quickly.
24:50Uh, many people have asked me about Gino Smith playing well in week one.
24:54First, I'd like to say as a, just a statement, Gino nation is monitoring the situation.
24:59We will not be commenting on that at this time.
25:02Jets off. Does Rosenthal have a party yet or no?
25:05Him and I, there's an active text group. That's very closely.
25:08The seven for seven drive in the preseason lived large in the text.
25:12But, um, you're like a blended family though, because you are, you are also part of the Darnold hive and Greg was not a member of our group.
25:21So I feel like there's definitely separate text chains with the, with the quarterbacks.
25:25Yeah, I know that. Is there a love? I went on Simmons potting.
25:29He, his whole thing was that all the nerds and our rallying around Jordan love and defending him.
25:34What we're now in this game and I'll get right into it.
25:38Jordan love. Poor guy. I talked about this lucky to get out of last week alive.
25:43Um, and that's for me, just the key to all of this is the jets pass rush versus a green Bay offensive line.
25:50That was just simply horrendous week one. Um, so I want to focus on the jet.
25:55So you don't need to, to reiterate all the ways in which green Bay was bad.
26:00The jets pass rush. Um, interesting. I, this is a fun one to watch against admittedly, a pretty bad Titans offensive line that had some really glaring issues.
26:08I saw like people tweeting about David Bailey. And I think his sad, the, some of his moments.
26:14So I turned on that game thinking like, all right, let me see David Bailey fun.
26:18And I just kept writing Will McDonald. Oh boy.
26:21He was a maniac in this game. The spin moves, the quick wins.
26:25There was one where they line them up inside and he beat the guard so bad.
26:30I almost gasped. Um, his quickness off the line of scrimmage is really next level.
26:34DJ. And I thought and Xbarri looked good on Yamada.
26:38So I think that's kind of just my general takeaway.
26:41And I think what's so important in this game is like the jets pass rush looks pretty good right now.
26:47Yeah. Fastballs when he was coming out, you know, like there were times in college, I, I think he got on the field his first year.
26:55If I remember correctly, he was like under 220 pounds rushing off the edge.
26:59It's like two 18, something like that. But Will McDonald's always, even though he's added weight, he's not a huge guy.
27:05He's not, it's all speed, speed, speed, speed, speed.
27:08And then he's got a great feel for that spin move.
27:11So, um, and then Bailey's a legit four, four, I think he ran four or five flat, but he's a legit like four, four on the opposite side.
27:20Like that's, that's arguably the most, like the fastest, we'll talk about explosive, but just the fastest edge rusher combo in the league is those two guys.
27:28So if they can get in a point where they're playing with leads, which plays like that and they can play with
27:35leads there, they're, they're going to have some fun and they actually will get a chance to take some balls away.
27:41It's a good point because like McDonald, I was like, man, why is he like sneaking up on me so much in this game?
27:48And to your point, they just have not played with leads.
27:52So, you know, he's been kind of like under appreciated.
27:55I think the advanced metrics always really, I feel like really like him.
27:59So yeah, anyways, I was, I was blown away by him in this game.
28:03Can I give, can I give you my one, my one nugget on this game though?
28:08If, if you're green Bay, I have one piece of great news is that Justin Jefferson is not going to be on the opposite side this week.
28:16That's good. It's a good nugget. Holy crap. Of all this, I was just watching a bunch of college receivers, including Jeremiah Smith.
28:23Like I was, it's, I'm a kid in a candy store watching these guys.
28:27And then I went back after that and watched, I was like, you know, I didn't watch much Houston or Minnesota offense.
28:34And I was like, Whoa, that's a different animal.
28:37That is a different dude. Holy crap. The free play where he hit him.
28:41I forgot who was calling the game. Cause I watched this one on TV, but he was just screaming, throw it to Justin.
28:48And I was thinking, it must be so hard to call Vikings games and not just scream, throw it to Justin mid
28:54play, because I would literally just, if I was Carson Wentz, throw it to him probably 40 times a game.
29:00So that was, uh, I'm going green Bay here.
29:03I know I sounded pretty apocalyptic about the offensive line.
29:06I just think Jordan loves too good. And, um, I don't think the Jets on the backend match up well with these Packers skill players.
29:14So it's, this is why the pass rush is so important for them in this one.
29:19So, but I, you know, very nervous about this green Bay team right now.
29:23I don't know. I'm going to have my cake and eat it too.
29:27I'm going to say that Matthew golden has another good game and I'm going to say the Jets, uh, pull this one off.
29:34Okay. There you go. Um, you have pull this up Eagles Titans.
29:38Speaking of the aforementioned disastrous Titans offensive line. Wolf, wolf.
29:41Yeah. So I'm going to go positive. I'm going to try and get some, it's just tough on Tennessee.
29:46It's going to, they are Tennessee and Miami are going to be in a dog fight all year long to, uh, to
29:53get the first pick in the draft is my, my guess there.
29:57But when you have a Dickerson who is not playing well for Philly and then, um, he goes on IR, which needed to happen.
30:04He was not good, but I think there's going to be a little bit of a shuffle.
30:09I don't know if what, you know, what's been announced or how it's going to go.
30:14I'm assuming Juergens is going to go to garden.
30:17Kendall go to center, which means you got two guys kind of at new positions.
30:21I mean, I'm assuming that's what happens. I know it feels like Kendall will be that guy.
30:26It's just whether, whether they want to move Juergens or, or not.
30:30Lampkin erasure. I love Lampkin's my favorite, but I don't think, I don't think he's going to be the guy.
30:36I'm just kidding. That's the tiny, the tiny center.
30:39Jeffrey Simmons against a shuffled deck. Like that's your, that's your positive Titan spin that I can give you right there.
30:45So that's all, that's basically all I've got. The other side of it.
30:49Yeah. Yes. The other side of it is ugly.
30:5210 yards out of bounds. I mean, or I'm just like, what was that?
30:56And then he's guiding the ball in the middle of the field.
31:00Like he just is, he literally, you can, it sounds amateurish, like in an analytical sense, he's trying too hard.
31:06Like he has to just lay free and let it go.
31:09And don't be results oriented. Just let the ball go and rip it.
31:13He's trying to guide the ball and it's taken off on him.
31:17It's taken off on him in the sideline. It's taken off on him in the middle of the field.
31:23So give him some easy completions, get them in the flow of the game.
31:27And you've got to, you've got to instill in him.
31:30Like we're going to live with some mistakes, throw an interception.
31:33We don't care, but like, just let it, let it go.
31:37You are playing way too pent up right now.
31:39Tough watch felt like the similar to the preseason.
31:42It felt like the timing was off too, between him and the receivers on everything.
31:47And unfortunately this is not the defense where you bounce back.
31:50Although, you know, some weaknesses. Cooper Jean struggled a little bit last, this week, which was weird.
31:55Antonio Williams. Antonio Williams. I thought, when's the commanders?
31:58Who do we got? Do you have that one?
32:00Or, yeah, you do. I'll say this. I thought Antonio Williams was Stefan Diggs like three times in this game.
32:07Cause he was already in the number 14 too.
32:09And just some of his releases and the way he's moving.
32:13I was like, whoa, throw it to Diggs. Oh, that's not Stefan Diggs.
32:17It's Antonio Williams. He, he needs more snaps. But back to the Titans.
32:21Yeah. I, the offense, I don't know, man, that's, you're making some really good points about Cam.
32:26And I think what he can do to be better is just a really tough matchup.
32:31Um, it's the Eagles offense. I do want to get into depth at some point, not after this, but like the offensive
32:37line was such a problem and it was the under center run game was so bad because of it.
32:43And they couldn't get any movement. And I just question whether this is the week to try that because of the one
32:50Titans, it is, you know, a matchup advantage that you alluded to.
32:53That's the one. Yeah, it's the one. So I kind of think we're just going to see the G.
32:59then hurts offense this week. Scrambles, throw it outside the numbers.
33:02Maybe you get some Goddard who was great in week one.
33:06Um, so taking the Eagles here, I imagine you are too.
33:09I just went on a rabbit, uh, trail while you were talking right there.
33:13I mean, like I know I had to go back through and find them.
33:18They call them like the baseball cards. So when a guy gets picked, uh, we'll have like the little nuggets for him on the screen.
33:25So I have to like for Antonio Williams, I put quicker than fast wins at the top of route.
33:31And I wrote down Jaden Reed was my, uh, my comparison of him with some of that quickness coming out, but he was fun.
33:38He was fun to watch. Yeah. Great hands on touchdown too, by the way.
33:42Geez. He's going to be good. Uh, I like Philly in this game.
33:46I do think some of the under center stuff, um, work in progress in the run game, but they did hit, I believe it was Wicks, right?
33:55That was the deep shot off play action in that one.
33:58That was it. Fun to see. That was about it.
34:01That was fun to see. Give you a little taste.
34:04Wicks look great. I mean, the Philly skill players look really good.
34:08It's funny. Lemon didn't do it, but like, but hustle man, I didn't like how they used him.
34:13It was so predictable. Use him in the middle of the field.
34:17Like let him go work. Why he was brought in.
34:20Like that's what he does. Swing passes and screams.
34:23All right. Vikings bears. Ah, this is a good one.
34:26All right. So we are both talking about this one.
34:29I mentioned this on Tuesday. Bears fans were like, talk about our offense.
34:33Cause we didn't talk about them. And our winners.
34:35Okay. Here it is. Bears offense. Holy mackerel. That's your side of the ball.
34:40You have the, the fun side in this one, which is a bears offense versus Vikings defense.
34:45Electric. Very fun. To me, I just looked down there.
34:48I just said, this is, it was burden last week, you know, who got, got the party started from the passing game.
34:54This is going to be, this feels like a Loveland game to me with all the different, with the pressure looks you're going to get.
35:02You're going to want to find some, some quick options and, and completions for Caleb.
35:07And I think you can find them there. So that's my kind of what to look for against this Minnesota defense, try
35:13and slow that group down with all the exotics you're going to get is having answers and having quick answers.
35:19So I think this is a Loveland game from that standpoint.
35:23I mean, the Minnesota defense, I mean, green Bay for the issues they had protecting in that game.
35:28Gosh, they still threw for almost 400 yards against them.
35:31So that's kind of what I'm keeping an eye on.
35:34The good, the crazy thing on the bears when I went through their tape and I mentioned it earlier this week on
35:41our podcast was they scored 59 points and left stuff out there.
35:45Like Caleb still had a couple stray bullets. Like he still missed a couple throws where, you know, you got crossers wide open.
35:51Like there's, I don't know, it doesn't even feel like they're banging their head on the ceiling and they just scored 59 points, which is pretty scary.
36:00He, such a crazy game. You're right. Could have been more, but like I, he also, I, I've really loved, obviously he
36:06had some insane throws, super crazy highlight throws that very few people on earth can make some out of structure stuff, which
36:13like they didn't always hit last year, but like on the short throws to like, there were so many games last year
36:20where he would just like inexplicably miss like a nine yard hitch or something.
36:24And he was like nails. Granted again against, you know, panics, but like, I think everything you wanted to see out of
36:31him in that in week one versus last season in terms of just hitting the singles, hitting the doubles, and obviously the
36:37occasional home run, he met the occasion. So, it's a scary proposition.
36:41This is a great matchup. Ben Johnson has had a lot of success against Brian Flores.
36:46Caleb, I also think has been good against this defense.
36:49I remember his rookie season even, which was, you know, the, the, the, Ibra Flusser.
36:53Yeah. I don't even remember who was the, now it's crazy.
36:57It was only two years ago. And I'm like, who's calling plays?
37:00They switched. They fired someone. Oh, no. At one point it was Shane Waldron.
37:05The running back coach was, was it the running back coach?
37:08Then it was switched to the running. It was interim.
37:11Yeah. Anyways. Jeez, that feels like so long ago.
37:14But even in that rookie season, I remember being like really impressed by how Caleb held up against the Brian, the Vikings defense.
37:21Those were two games where I was like, there's something here, guys.
37:24Because, you know, the Flores defense, like it makes you play quarterback at such a high level and make really difficult throws.
37:31And he, he has the ability to do that.
37:34Makes you play fast. Yeah. I think that the Vikings will struggle with their run game as anyone will.
37:40But that's one thing where it, against the Vikings too, there's certain teams that can just like, if you can really run
37:46the football on them, then you can stay out of those third and longs and also the early down blitzes.
37:52So I, I think, I think the bears offense, they're going to be more tested, but I do think that they're going
37:59to be able to move the ball in Minnesota.
38:02On the other side, we have likely Carson. It's probably Carson Wentz against the bears defense.
38:07And, and this is the downside of the bears.
38:09Uh, the Vikings receivers are an absolute mismatch for this bear secondary.
38:13Your guy, Thieneman was like the best player out there.
38:16Um, the corners were awful. I thought in the Carolina game.
38:19I mean, when Jalen Johnson's getting routed up by Jonathan Brooks, you know, things aren't going well.
38:24He's running back. Tyreek Stevenson, Coker took, uh, like, went at everyone.
38:28Uh, T-Mac had a couple of beats on Johnson that were really bad.
38:32So, you know, and I think the bear, the Panthers receivers are pretty like underrated and, and it's, it's actually quite a
38:39good group, but, this Minnesota group is a problem.
38:41So this question for me is just, can Carson Wentz not turn it over and give these receivers a chance to win?
38:48Um, I'm going to go bears here. I think even if when skits, a few, I just don't think he's going to
38:55be consistent enough to match up with Caleb in this game.
38:58Yeah. I thought we might be different there. I thought you might go in the other direction, but it's just hard for me with Carson Wentz.
39:06Yeah. But even with the bears defense, his friends as bad as they are.
39:10Just, you look at the quarterback matchup and I'll always have, and I love Flores and I love the style and I
39:17love the, you know, the numbers of the numbers and his results are impeccable.
39:21But I was just in the building when I saw, uh, the charters one year with Keenan Allen, who might've caught like
39:2816, 18 balls against them because they just were going to let, they're going to let it go.
39:33They're going to let it go one-on-one out there.
39:36So then I, I've gone to every Flores game thinking who can do what Keenan Allen did.
39:41And that's why I'm like, Oh, okay, I'll take Loveland.
39:44I'll take Loveland, get him out there, find the matchup that you want.
39:48And he can win early. Last game for the break.
39:51Saints Ravens is me. Um, I'll be quick here.
39:54So I talked about the Ravens offense in the first part of this week.
39:58Now I want to talk about the Ravens defense.
40:01And basically my key is can Tyler Shuck handle the Ravens insane pressures?
40:05Um, very fun to watch back. Some of these pressures from week one against Indianapolis, the Ravens pass rush, the four man rush had a 42% pressure rate.
40:13The blitzes hit 60% of the time. Um, it's quite a contrast with Jesse mentor his old team.
40:19Sorry. In terms of getting pressure on some of those, those rushes, the way he used Kyle Hamilton was diabolical in this game.
40:26Uh, just, you had to lay on him behind Tedious Robinson.
40:29You'd put him opposite him. He would, um, there were like delayed blitzes with him coming through different gaps.
40:35Um, I thought Hendrickson, the way he used him sometimes as the looper.
40:39He was also very, just, he looked pretty good to, I thought, uh, just rushing straight up.
40:44I, it was a lot for Indianapolis to handle.
40:47And, uh, Tyler Shuck in this, in the second half really solved the lion's blitz.
40:51And that was a big part of the 300 plus yards we talked about.
40:56This is a different animal. I think this Ravens pass rush is going to be a really significant problem for quarterbacks going forward.
41:03Everything always comes back to the Chargers. I mean, I just, it's just former Chargers offensive coordinator slash head coach now with,
41:09uh, the Saints going up against former defensive coordinator, Jesse Minner.
41:13I feel like calling the Charger games, I get a chance to see a lot of the league.
41:18They all kind of like, kind of make their way through their time in LA.
41:23Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So see what that looks like.
41:25I'll go, I'm going Baltimore here. Yeah. I'll put you on that one.
41:29All right. Let's take a quick break. Come back out, uh, and got a few more games, a couple of really good ones.

42:54Before we get to Jags Broncos, let's go Steelers Patriots.
42:57That's you first. Yeah, Steelers Patriots. Hold on. Where did I put this thing on here?
43:02This is in New England, right? Okay. I'm guessing New England's favorite.
43:06Yeah, it's in New England. I've gone through all that stuff.
43:09For some reason, I didn't write that one down.
43:12Yeah, well, to me, look, Pittsburgh catch the football.
43:14That helps. We'll start there. That would be a key for them offensively.
43:18I do like where they are with their fronts, with the offensive line, with the young pieces they have there, and the defensive front.
43:26Watt, you know, obviously grabbed the headlines with the splash plays, but they got a bunch of dudes they roll through there.
43:32They've drafted well in the trenches the last few years, and I think you saw that.
43:37So I picked them, which surprised a lot of people.
43:40I picked Pittsburgh to win that division just because I believe in them up front, and I thought Rodgers would be better another year removed from the Achilles.
43:49So we didn't see the numbers because of the drops, but I'm curious on this football team.
43:54I'm a little higher than others. And then with the Patriots side of things, Drake was just trying to do too much in that game against Seattle.
44:02It wasn't just the pick at the end of the game.
44:05He was just trying to just do too many hard things.
44:09Just take the easy throw. Take the easy completion.
44:11I think you'll see, he's a smart kid. I think he'll make that adjustment.
44:16I think they'll be a little more cognizant of just taking the layups, taking the easy completions.
44:21And I think because of that, you see a conservative, a little more conservative group there, which means they don't turn it
44:28over, but I don't think they're going to score a zillion points against Pittsburgh.
44:32I think this is going to be a low-scoring game, and I actually like Pittsburgh to win that game.
44:38AJ Brown being out. I mean, just seeing how that Patriots receiving group and passing game looked without him.
44:43I think Dobbs will be better. I know, he'll be better.
44:47But this is what I'm interested schematically in how Patrick Graham, the Steelers defensive coordinator, approaches this.
44:52And still, Joey Porter Jr. remains not playing, I guess.
44:55Not playing. Let's put it that way. Not on the team.
44:58He's on the team. He's not playing or whatever.
45:01But, you know, I think I was... So against Cooper Rush, there were some definite differences from the Steelers' defense of Yor,
45:08which was a very single high cover three man coverage.
45:11They played, I thought, more split safety against... But this is one where, like, I think with Drake May, too, we've seen
45:17Seattle not put down a blueprint by any means.
45:20I don't want to say that. But we have seen him force the ball into split safety coverage now a few times against Seattle.
45:27So if I'm Patrick Graham in Pittsburgh, I probably take a page from that a little bit.
45:32And then you count on your, like you said, the pass rush.
45:36You have an advantage there against the New England offensive line.
45:39For me, though, like on the other side of the ball, like I also think that New England defense has an advantage against this Pittsburgh.
45:47I think I was really impressed by, I mean, just like Gabe Ackes, like sure, in the week one against Seattle.
45:53I thought New England's defense played really well. So I'll go Patriots here because I think I just believe in the quarterback
46:00more, even though I think both of these defenses, to your point, probably have a beat on both of these offenses and have matchup advantages.
46:08Okay, Jags-Broncos. Yeah, this is a great one. I'll go Denver offense here and I'll start first of all, you know, going
46:14back through and trying to figure out what the heck was going on with Jalen Waddell.
46:19That was one that we talked about all off season.
46:22Having seen that team in person twice a year in doing the Charger games, I'm like, that's kind of the missing, he's
46:29like the perfect missing piece for them. And in my other job as a draft analyst, like going into that draft, I
46:36didn't know who to give him in a mock draft.
46:39So I'm like, nobody makes sense. And then they make that trade and I'm like, okay, perfect.
46:44That's exactly what they needed. And then you come into the first game and it wasn't just that, okay, he gets, you
46:50know, it's a poor throw from Drake on a third down that he can't convert it.
46:55So it's like third and four. It's wrong shoulder.
46:58So he gets like two yards and he dropped a one step slant.
47:02That would have been, it had a good chance to be an explosive.
47:06Okay. Take that off to the side. He runs a wheel route wide open Drake or then, uh, sorry, bonex doesn't throw it.
47:13And then, um, I'm like, okay, where's the emphasis on just getting the ball in his hands and you're running bubbles to Pat Bryant.
47:20Like Pat Bryant is a physical tough, like he's a good player.
47:24I know they're very high on him, but if we're going to have basically the ball going to one person on a
47:31play where there's no decision to be made, I'm getting that ball in Jalen Waddell's hands, especially early in the ball game,
47:37they were force feeding the ball to Pat Bryant.
47:40I'm like, what planet am I living on? Why did you go get this guy?
47:44If you're not going to feature him in plays like that, I didn't understand it.
47:49It's okay. So how many can I had a conversation about Jalen Waddell leading up to the game and last week in
47:56our preview where we, it's not thought process similar to what you, uh, kind of outlined.
48:01This is the missing piece. They need bonex to start throwing over the middle of the field.
48:06They need to unlock the intermediate stuff. If Jalen, you bring in Jalen Waddell's to get that out of your quarterback, Jalen Waddell's, Jalen Waddell.
48:13And, uh, he is so dynamic with the ball in his hands.
48:17He's in, you know, it creates opportunities for other people, yada, yada.
48:21But what do you do then as a play caller when your quarterback doesn't see it?
48:25Doesn't want to live in that world. You have to, to your point, find ways to get him involved.
48:31Otherwise, as you try to coax that out of the quarterback.
48:35So like, it's kind of, there was so much conversation around Davis Webb and is it his fault?
48:40Or is it Nix's fault? Or is it Waddell's fault?
48:43Kind of all of the above, I actually think is the answer.
48:47Um, you know, Waddell had to drop, but like the quarterback has to be better.
48:51But as a play caller, I feel like you have to recognize, it also felt like, I mean, Kansas City just had
48:58such a beat on the screens, the boots, and what they wanted to do.
49:02And I think the Chiefs defense is going to quietly be very good this year now.
49:07And that's, that was kind of one of my biggest week one takeaways.
49:11But guess what? Jacks defense is pretty damn good too.
49:14This is a good unit. So, um, yeah, it's a significant challenge.
49:18Inside, Walker off the edge was really, really good last week against Cleveland.
49:22Um, they, they rushed him a little bit inside as well.
49:25So they're moving him around. Um, the only thing that I'm, you know, if I'm trying to give Denver some hope here
49:32against the Jags defense that just stops the run is that Watson did have, I think he had like 38 yards rushing.
49:38So you got Bo Nix, who's been struggling. You got a team that's going to be tough to just run the ball
49:45with your regular run game, but they have been a little bit vulnerable versus an athletic quarterback.
49:50I think you could kill two birds with one stone there and let's get Bo Nix on the outside.
49:56Let's let Bo Nix run a little bit, um, and try and supplement your passing game that way.
50:01Jacks offense Broncos defense. Um, so I'm tempted to talk about the run game after what we saw the Broncos defense give up against Kansas city.
50:09And I thought the Jags 12 personnel running game looked good.
50:13Um, this last week, last week against Cleveland, talking about all these rookie tight ends.
50:17Nate Bergercher had more snaps than Jacoby Myers and Parker Washington in this game.
50:21They don't take him that high. Yeah. They drafted him for a reason.
50:25All these like tight ends in the mid rounds were like quite present.
50:29Um, but anyways, so that I do think they're going to try to run the ball.
50:34I do, you know, they're going to try to do what Kansas city did to some degree, get things nice and condensed,
50:41make those corners, tackle, ask the tight ends to block.
50:44Um, so that's, that's definitely something to look for here in this game.
50:48Certainly after what we saw, but I think my key and what I want to see is can this Jags offensive line hold up against Denver?
50:56Because Kansas city didn't really ask their line to pass protect this last week.
51:00Patrick threw the ball and like a lightning fast.
51:03Mm-hmm. Yeah. The Jags with Trevor Lawrence is part of this like renaissance or whatever you want to call it.
51:09He is attacking downfield and against Cleveland on throws over two and a half seconds, 10 for 14 for 189 yards and three touchdowns.
51:16Can you do that? Uh, Anton Harrison and Cole Van Lane and their, the tackles only gave up one pressure, zero quick pressures.
51:23Can you do that against Denver? I want to see that.
51:26Right. Cause we talked about the angry Texans defense.
51:29This Broncos defense has pride too, and they're going to want to get after it.
51:34And by the way, the last time they played Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence cooked them.
51:38Less people forget. So I think that I'm very interested in seeing their approach on the ground, but also whether this past
51:45game, whether this offensive line, because if this offensive line holds up again, week two against this team, what is stopping this
51:51offense from finishing in the top five this year?
51:54Yeah. No, it's, it's got a chance to be as balanced as any.
51:58And I would think that even as much success as they had pushing the ball down the field, they're going to come out, try and run the ball.
52:06I would guess if, you know, you think back to like football movies when you were a kid and like, Hey, you
52:13fumbled, like, Hey, you have to carry a football to class.
52:16Like does Riley Moss have like a tackling like donut that he has to just like carry with him everywhere.
52:23And then people just roll it to him and he can just work on wrapping and getting guys on the ground.
52:29That was atrocious. So they're going to have to, there's no way Denver can tackle that bad again.
52:34Like that was, it was a week one thing.
52:37I choose to believe that. It was not. No, there was others.
52:41I mean, Singleton had a bazillion tackles. He still missed a handful of tackles.
52:45Funga came down and missed a tackle. There's a bunch of them.
52:49Kansas City went after Singleton a lot. This is always something, you know, when you're an offense coordinator, you look at this Denver depth chart.
52:56He's the guy that you're circling that you're going to go after in coverage too.
53:01So I wouldn't be surprised if Liam Cohen also tries to get Brenton Strange on him to try to, you know, use
53:07the running backs in the passing game. But, yeah, I think like this is to me is, I think if Jags win
53:14this game and I'm going to pick them to win instantly, this is like become, they become seen talked about as contenders
53:21and maybe a way that they should be already.
53:24But it feels like they need one. This is going to get a lot of eyeballs on it.
53:29Yeah, I've been a notorious like skeptic, I should say, on the Jags.
53:33I just don't know why I've seen them in person and how physical they are.
53:38This is my last one. I swear I promised you on my Walt Disney plaque for 10 years.
53:4310 years of service, Mina. I've only worked at the company for six months, but 10 years, it's gone by in the blink of an eye.
53:51That happened. Yeah, it's corporate mergers. You get the credit.
53:54Wow. Credit for previous years served. So, yeah, the mouse and everything.
53:58I will put my left hand on my 10-year plaque of service and say if the Jags win this game, I will never doubt them ever again.
54:06But just one last time, I'm going to take Denver.
54:09Okay, good. We're on a few opposite sides here.
54:12All right. Magical years, by the way, it says.
54:14Magical. Magical years. Have you taken advantage? Have you gone to Disneyland yet?
54:18It's a shame your kids are too old. They're all too old.
54:22They're too old. My kid is literally at Disneyland today.
54:25I just got texted a picture of him hugging Pluto.
54:28Oh, that's good. All right. You have Raiders Chargers.
54:31All right. Let's get into it. I have not.
54:33That was it. Bears fans were mad at me that I didn't pick the Chargers.
54:38Or, pardon me, the Bears is a winner. And then people were mad that I didn't trash the Chargers on Tuesday.
54:44So, let's get into it. Raiders Chargers. Yeah. Is this a bounce back opportunity for LA?
54:49What a letdown. They looked. My biggest takeaway was a couple things.
54:53Maybe even more so defensively than offensively. Thank you.
54:56The inability to rush the quarterback. People are not talking about this enough.
54:59Everyone's the most. Because I think it's the Mike McDaniel hype and all of that.
55:04And I'm watching this defense. Like, how? No. They couldn't rush.
55:07Tule. The whole group. I don't want to single him out.
55:11But they just didn't have. It looked slow. They looked like a slow defense.
55:15So, they couldn't get home with their regular rush.
55:18So, then they tried adding on. And Arizona picked it up clean.
55:21They didn't get any run-throughs. Like, whether that's the design or the execution.
55:25They didn't get hardly any pressure. So, you left yourself vulnerable on the back end.
55:30And you're just playing kind of soft coverage. And they've, you know, Brissette's a veteran quarterback.
55:35He's just going to find soft spots. And they just picked them apart.
55:39And McBride got the best of Derwin. Which doesn't happen very often.
55:42Where, you know, Derwin, when usually there's a problem.
55:45Even if it's in the slot or if it's a tight end.
55:49Like, Derwin kind of gets that matchup. And the goal is for him to just kind of make it go away.
55:55And McBride still was able to get his. So, defensively, that was a major concern.
56:00Offensively, look, they hit some big ones early. But it almost felt like, you know, just doing too much.
56:05They got behind the sticks a ton with sacks and penalties.
56:09It was a very sloppy, sloppy game for them offensively.
56:12I'm not as worried there. Although, I don't know, you know, with Lad McConkie's situation.
56:16That's a concern. When he went out to field, it was rough.
56:20Oh, it was nothing. They had nothing. So, and, you know, we'll see if they can get the run game going.
56:26But I was more concerned leaving the stadium about the pass rush and the defense.
56:31Thinking offensively, this is new coordinator, new system. They'll find how it works for them.
56:35But defensively is where I was more troubled. So, totally agree.
56:39Because the offense, I felt like, had a lot of correctable errors.
56:42You talked about the penalties, turning the ball over.
56:45Also, there was a black punt. Yeah. There was some fluky stuff in there.
56:49There was some weird stuff. When Hampton runs into the back of his own player and fumbles when you're getting ready to score.
56:56And, like, the pass game with McConkie did look quite explosive at times.
57:00So, I think it was... Probably the bigger disappointment for me was I thought the run game off tackle would be more, like, I don't know.
57:08It's obviously... I was so excited about it with McDaniel.
57:11And it felt like they just weren't, like, some of the tight ends and they weren't getting the blocks off the way
57:18that they thought they would when Hampton would run to the perimeter.
57:22But I think that'll all be better. Obviously, the interior of the offensive line remains...
57:26Like, Dante stills... Especially in third and long. ...cooking the...
57:29That's... The platoon, by the way, of left guards, which I don't...
57:33Maybe you can explain to me the logic there.
57:35But the defense, I'm so glad you highlighted it because I think it's been lost in all of this.
57:41Jacoby Brissett against the Blitz in this game, 8 for 12 for 84 yards and a touchdown.
57:46It just wasn't affecting him. And I hated to...
57:49You don't want to always talk about the one who got away, but, like, compare that to the Blitzes I saw in Baltimore that were, like...
57:57Yeah. You know, right? I was talking about them having a 60% pressure rate on those Blitzes.
58:02And they were trying to Blitz a lot, which is the charge of defense never Blitz last year.
58:08But it felt like they were forced into it and then they weren't good at it.
58:13So... Yeah. Some concerning stuff on that defense, and that's kind of been my fear all along, is that even if the
58:19offense does improve, the defense is going to take a step back without Minter.
58:23And that was my worry. And by the way, now you're going up against a Raiders offense that, you know, is not perfect.
58:30I think Cousins is somewhat of a limited quarterback at this point.
58:34But looks incredibly well-designed, I thought. Like, Clint Kubiak knows what he's doing.
58:38He is going to find ways to run the football on L.A.
58:42And the Raiders offensive line improved. Well, here's their better coached.
58:45They're better coached. And it's not like they've made...
58:48I mean, you get to upgrade at center, and Colt Miller being back helps.
58:52But there's still not a great group up front.
58:55But it just shows you the difference that some coaching could make.
58:58I was more space, God willing, that you could play the Miami Dolphins every single week.
59:03But that was more space than JT ever saw at any point last year.
59:07And it's no surprise. He didn't just go from this hyped player, you know, who a lot of folks, myself included, really
59:14believed in, to like, he's just not any good.
59:17Like, he was running into a wall. There was no space last year.
59:21So that's encouraging if you're a Raiders fan. And then, I don't know where we are, you know, as we're recording this, what Bauer's availability looks like.
59:29But I would imagine if he's watching what Trey McBride did last week that he'd be wanting to get out there.
59:35I'm going to go Chargers bounce back here. I just think the quarterback's not going to have another bad game like that.
59:42And this, I think some of it had to do with everyone, myself included, underrating the Cardinals a little bit and some of the talent they had.
59:50They have real guys on offense. They have a professional quarterback.
59:54I thought some of the young defensive players played well too in that game.
59:58So, but I just think Justin Hurwitz bounces back.
60:01How about you? Have you looked at the Chargers schedule after this game?
60:05I was trying to pull it up. No, is it gnarly?
60:08It's gnarly, yeah. So, must win. So, there's, yeah, I hate him.
60:12Ooh, Bill Seahawks, Broncos, Chiefs, Rams. Ooh, that is not nice.
60:15Gotta win this game. God damn. So, I'm going to pick the Chargers.
60:19I think you'll see a little urgency there knowing what's on the horizon.
60:23Okay, so I have Dolphins Niners. So, I think just what I want to focus on here is why this Dolphins run game can get going?
60:31Because I think as good as the Niners defense was against LA, you did see, I thought the Rams actually were really
60:37good at running the ball on them. It's just Matthew Stafford was like bizarrely bad in that game.
60:43And I thought, you know, with Malik Willis and A-Chan that this was going to be a really fun, creative, wonky, let's
60:49throw it back to, you know, 1920s run game.
60:52And it really wasn't. And I thought, like, A-Chan didn't do anything week one.
60:56But also, like, it was so much of him running under center.
61:00I thought, like, I know it was funny because we were talking about that on NFL Live.
61:05It's a league-wide trend, all of that. That's not what I want from this offense.
61:10I almost like, when they, when Waddle walked and Willis came in, DJ, I was like, I kind of wish Greg Roman
61:16was calling this offense this year to just get freaking weird with the run game.
61:21But unless they can find a way to run the football better than that and get both the quarterback and the back
61:28involved and put defenses in conflict between the two of them, I don't see how they move the ball in San Francisco.
61:34Yeah. I do want to touch on what you said, though, because I thought that, man, if the Rams would have just
61:41stayed with the run game against the Niners, they might have had something going.
61:45Kyron and Blake Corum had a combined 52% success rate.
61:48Corum was hitting explosives. Like, they were moving it on.
61:51And some of that is structurally, I think, the way that the Niners' defense played them, and maybe they won't play them
61:58quite the same way, but I still, the Dolphins should be able to run the ball.
62:03Yeah. They're not stopping them, so they better. Taking San Francisco here.

63:14We got four more games. Next up is Commanders Cowboys.
63:17That's you. Yeah, Commanders Cowboys. We kind of touched on a little bit of this.
63:21I won't spend a ton of time on this one.
63:24Antonio Williams is going to be the fun matchup for me.
63:28Opportunity to win there against that secondary in Dallas.
63:30And I would say on the Dallas thing to keep an eye on, with Jaden Daniels and his athleticism, man, they put
63:37Malachi Lawrence, the rookie edge rusher, in conflict on some zone reads and just went at him in the run game.
63:43He was a little bit slow on the take.
63:46And so I would imagine with the athleticism that Washington has there that they could take advantage of a little bit of that.
63:53Demarion Overshone injured. The linebacking group was a bit of a disaster.
63:57I mean, the entire Cowboys defense was a disaster.
63:59Not great. The offense really was okay. We're fine.
64:02They just didn't have any possessions. Yeah, I thought they would run the football better on New York.
64:08And I talked about this. Did I talk about this on Tuesday?
64:11You know who I thought was incredible in that?
64:14Well, we're going to get to Giants-Rams. Abdel Carter.
64:17Ooh, buddy. Yeah, he's juicy. Kid can play. I think you want to really steal some of the Giants' playbook.
64:23Like, J. Daniels, just fall out fast. Don't let the Cowboys' defensive tackles are good.
64:27But boy, there are a lot of other places that you can attack.
64:31See if they've fixed any of the problems in zone coverage that we saw last week.
64:36That was just disastrous. On the other side, though, I will say I didn't get to this at all.
64:42I thought the Commander's defense had some nice moments against Philadelphia, particularly the front.
64:46Like, I was impressed by some of their pressures.
64:49Sonny Stiles had some pretty cool—made some pretty significant plays in that game.
64:53So, you know, this could be a little bit—I think they're going to be improved on that side of the ball.
64:59Can I pick against the Cowboys? It's a tough one.
65:02Sonny Stiles, by the way, that was a tough one for the preseason bust police that want to throw that label out there.
65:09There's one play where he missed it. That wasn't his assignment, but he missed it again.
65:14Yeah, I'm going to go Dallas here. Dallas offense, I feel like that's bad.
65:18I have to go Dallas. I stinking picked Dak to win the MVP.
65:22They can't start out 0-2. So, I'm going to selfishly pick Dallas, although I do not have a high confidence level based
65:29off what we just saw, that defense. CX Cardinals is me.
65:32Drew Locke. Still don't know when Sam Donald's going to be back.
65:36Against Feisty. We talked about it. Feisty Cardinals defense.
65:39So, I'm going to focus on that because it's kind of the biggest X factor in this one.
65:44And I think what I'm going to say is if Drew Locke can stay protected in this one, I actually think he can attack them.
65:52Against New England, very good when he was kept clean.
65:55They used a lot of play action. When he was under center against New England, he went 7-7 for 160 yards and a touchdown.
66:02Perfect passer rating. The thing about Drew Locke is at least he'll attack.
66:06He's not scared. Sometimes that can lead to bad moments and misses.
66:10I'm not going to tell you right now here that he should be a starting quarterback.
66:15But your offense isn't heavily, like, you are actually able to use, like, attack through the passing game in a way that,
66:21like, with some backup quarterbacks, you just can't. And I think where things get kind of froggy with him is when he's
66:28under pressure and he's in panic and not just in terms of, like, turning the ball over or the risk of that, but, like, inaccuracies.
66:35So, if they can just keep him clean in this game against Arizona, I think he has, you know, the Seahawks can
66:42– there's a lot of mismatches for them through the passing game.
66:46Um, Herbert, by the way, actually killed him on play action a bunch in the last game, too.
66:51So, you know, I thought that – we talked about Dante Stills.
66:55I thought Roy Lopez, again, some of that had to do with the Chargers offensive line.
67:00But I feel like this is just kind of a – this is going to be very similar to the New England game.
67:07Can Drew Locke give you two touchdowns kind of game?
67:10Because I think Seahawks' defense will rise to the occasion.
67:13Yeah, my two things on this one real quick is I think you'll see Seattle's going to catch them in a blitz
67:19because I don't think they're going to be able to get home with just their four.
67:24So, they're going to send extra bodies and JSN has the ability to pay that off.
67:29So, we've already seen what that looks like. So, I think they get enough explosives off that if they can time that up well.
67:36And then the other side of it is I think that – I think that you'll see Love get more involved in
67:43the pass game on the Arizona side of things.
67:46I think he only caught two balls last week.
67:49Like, I think that's one – against Seattle, that's your best shot.
67:52That's your best matchup is to go see if he can get out there and do some things.
67:58I was thinking about that as New England – because I was – Seattle, I think, went into that game against New
68:04England with such glaring weaknesses in the secondary and they weren't able to exploit them for a litany of reasons, one of
68:11which is just they're so damn well coached. They're just connected.
68:14Dude, like seeing some of the coverage busts around the NFL this week and thinking back to the Seahawks game and just
68:21watching them like move on a string in the pass and coverage just – yeah, I don't know.
68:27I just – like I really hope people appreciate what Mike McDonald is able to do with that unit.
68:32But – and like, you know, Cardinals – like, I mean, Trey McBride gave Derwin James a business.
68:38I know. He is an unbelievable tight end. So I think they might be able to attack the safeties.
68:44I think – I haven't checked if Tai Okada will be – I think he's going to be healthy in this one.
68:50I think they try and get to Ernest. I think they try and get to Ernest out with Jeremiah Love getting to Ernest Jones.
68:58That's a good one. That's the – that's the one.
69:01I think – I think even with Drew Locke, I think Seattle can win this because the defense.
69:06And I think Drew Locke can do enough. But this is obviously going to be close.
69:11Yep. I'll take Seattle. All right. We got two more.
69:14I actually didn't put them in correct order. So one of them is mine and then we – Giants or Rams were doing both.
69:21I have Colts, Chiefs. All right. So we talked a lot about the Chiefs on Tuesday on this show and the run game and the commitment to it.
69:30The Colts just got bodied on the ground by Baltimore.
69:33Derrick Henry, 144 yards, four 10-plus yard runs. Going back and watching some of them, I mean, the – it was a
69:39– the defensive line for Indianapolis really – like DeForest Buckner, God love him.
69:44But they got pushed around by Baltimore's offensive line.
69:46And then the safeties in the corners as well really struggled to tackle.
69:50We just saw Kansas City, their philosophy on offense this year is we're going to make a tackle.
69:56So if they can't improve – if Indianapolis' defense can't improve upon what I saw on Sunday in terms of run defense
70:02and tackling, I think Kansas City can move the ball on them just the way that they did on Denver, even though they're not taking them by surprise.
70:11Yeah, I think they have a little time to get ready for this thing.
70:15I think it's a better matchup for Indy than what they saw last week.
70:19Those – you know, Sauce particularly does not match up with Zay Flowers.
70:23That's the worst style of wide receiver for him to cover.
70:27And they don't – Zay Flowers is on another planet from what he's going to see from Kansas City out there.
70:33So I think that's a better matchup there. I think Lamar and having to account for him in the run game helped
70:40open things up as well for Derrick Henry. Certainly Mahomes scrambled around a little bit, but that's not the same type threat.
70:47And the Kansas City team, as good as they ran the ball, the pass game was not in any sinker rhythm under center.
70:53I didn't think Mahomes is nearly as comfortable operating under center as a thrower.
70:58He was 0 for 4. Yeah, it was – we talked about this.
71:02It's so weird how he always overthrows Taequann Thornton on those shots.
71:05And it doesn't – she's pass game. I mean, it's crazy that they put up 31 and Mahomes didn't have to do
71:12anything other than scramble a little bit. So – I mean, their best play was a pivot route to Kelsey.
71:18And you get McMillan misses a tackle and it's what, 59, 60 yards or what have you.
71:23So, I don't know. I just think now it's – this offensive line more is a much better run blocker than it is in pass protection.
71:31If Indy can just win some early downs, I don't think that this Chiefs passing game is – you know, where –
71:38I think it's going to get better, but I don't think it's where it needs to be right now.
71:44And I think they can find some success there.
71:46But if they – if they get hammered on first and second down, it's going to be a long day.
71:52I wouldn't be surprised if Lou Anarumo plays – like, we see some early down run blitzes.
71:58He plays it really aggressively and just dares them to beat them through the air.
72:02I did feel like Denver got a little bit taken – which is crazy, kind of, because, like, everybody knew that Kansas
72:09City was going to – like, that was their commitment.
72:12Do you think that they would stay with it?
72:15I thought – they came out, like, okay, this is their statement.
72:18You're going to come out running the ball, you know, repeatedly.
72:22And then eventually Andy will kind of get back – he'll back off from it.
72:26But they – I mean, they stayed on it.
72:29It was such a change, not just, though, in terms of running the ball, but I talked about this on NFL.
72:35I have the condensed formations, like putting Tonga in the backfield.
72:39Like, they really committed – all the skill players, like Bryce blocking as well as he did.
72:44On the flip side, though – They blocked well in that game.
72:47I know. It was crazy. I was like, Kelsey's out there blocking people.
72:51We did the – I did a tape of the duo run at their – back on their own goal line.
72:58The one where it's Rasheed Rice and Kelsey on the same side.
73:01And I swear to God, that's, like, the best block I've ever seen Kelsey make.
73:06At least – I know. As good as I've seen him block.
73:09He put his back into it. I've watched him for a decade plus.
73:13On Nick Benito. But on the flip side, like, you know, I think this Baltimore defense is very good, but I also
73:20think this Chiefs defense might be good. We talk – I mean, they just look so refreshed, dude.
73:26Like, I – and it seems like, by the way, Mansour Delane might play in this one, if I'm checking right.
73:32Mm-hmm. Oh, that's good. Yeah. Even – FAU. FAU.
73:35FAU is alive. Felix Anadike Uzama. That was – I mentioned that on NFL Live.
73:39After a quiet two years. He played great. Dude.
73:42Okay. Armazen Thomas, the get-off, awesome. Love that. 0.79 seconds was last time you saw that consistently in Kansas City.
73:48Peter Woods made plays. But, like, FAU. The forgotten man in this defense.
73:52I thought he looked good in the preseason, and then he was excellent in this game.
73:57The backers were excellent. The non-Delanes, Noel Williams. Nick Bolton was all over the field.
74:01Nick Bolton was – like, just across the board, it felt like they had such – and, by the way, talk about pressures.
74:08Last year, those Chiefs blitzes stopped getting home against Denver.
74:11They had, like, a 60% hit rate on blitzes again.
74:14So, I – we just saw this Colts team really struggle with some of those Baltimore pressures.
74:20I am worried about them in this matchup as well.
74:23I'm taking the Chiefs. Yeah, I'll take the Chiefs.
74:25I don't think the Chiefs are going to be able to physically run the ball and manhandle them the way they did.
74:32I don't – the tackling was so bad from Denver last week.
74:36So, I don't think it will look quite the same.
74:39But I think they have enough to get to the finish line.
74:42So, I'll take the Chiefs. Giants-Rams. Final game, Monday night.
74:45A game that now looks a lot more competitive than it did two weeks ago for a couple of reasons.
74:51The Giants coming off of their Week 1 triumph.
74:54The Rams now without Miles Garrett in this game.
74:57I assume Aaron Donald will play. I haven't really been following that.
75:01But I assume we'll see him a little bit.
75:03You can go first here. You have Rams offense, Giants defense.
75:07Yeah, I wrote down a little bit what we referenced earlier.
75:10Just stay with the run, too. Stay committed to it.
75:13Get yourself in third and manageables. Because, you know, as well as New York played the other night, they gave up 8 of 11 on third downs.
75:21So, there's going to be opportunities for this Rams team if they can get in those manageables to not only keep drives alive, but they can get explosives.
75:30So, you know, obviously, ideally, you don't even get to third down, but just don't find yourself in third and long against
75:36this front from the Giants because of the juice they got coming your way.
75:41And then on the Giants side of things, I'm just excited to see kind of the continued evolution of Arvel Reese and
75:47how they use him and what they do with him.
75:50He was fun to watch. Like, he got fooled on one play action, but outside of that, he ate up two screens.
75:57Like, he demolished the blocker on one and just used his speed to close down the space.
76:02And I think there's more meat on the bone with him as a Blitzer.
76:06So, I'm curious to see. They have a lot of fun chess pieces with this front, how they can utilize those guys.
76:13So, I'm curious to see how they continue to grow and evolve his role in a game like this one.
76:19Yeah, it really does seem like on this side of the ball, Rams, offense, Giants, defense, a matter of can you get them in a third and five?
76:28Because they're advantage Giants, right? You saw that against San Francisco, by the way.
76:32On third down, and I mentioned this during the game, they, last year, were not a good third down offense.
76:38They just were never in third down. They never got to it.
76:42Because they were so damn good at running the ball on early downs.
76:46So, I think for New York, that early down run defense and for the Rams, commit to it, stick with it.
76:52You're extremely good at it still. So, even if the Giants, I do think the Giants run defense is improved.
76:58Obviously, on last year, it would be hard not to be improved.
77:02But this is a good test for how improved they are.
77:05On the other side of the ball, we got a Giants offense that we saw last week wants to put a fullback
77:12on the field, live in 21-22, run the ball.
77:14Sound like a team that just played the Rams?
77:17I'm not saying that it's comparable just because they both have white running backs and white fullbacks, my friend.
77:23JB pointed that out to me. But I do think they're going to try to take a kind of similar approach, right?
77:30Which is, the Niners put their big bodies on the field, the Rams matched it with nickel as they do, and they threw them out the club.
77:38If you're New York, why would you not try to do the same thing?
77:42You want the Rams linebackers on the field, right?
77:45So, I think they're going to live in those two back sets.
77:48They'll throw out of them as well. Ball's going to come out quick, out of Jackson Dart's hands, even without Myles Garrett.
77:55And if they can, I actually think, like, I'm not saying that they can do exactly what San Francisco did.
78:01The passing attack is there. It's just more complicated.
78:04But I do think that they'll be able to run the ball in L.A., or at least they'll try to.
78:10Yeah, and I would say, from a scouting standpoint, maybe one of my favorite matchups of the entire week is when you get McDuffie working against neighbors.
78:18That's pretty fun. That is really fun. That is fun.
78:21How about Isaiah Likely last week? I didn't talk about that.
78:25He's still open. They haven't covered him yet. The Cowboys don't even know where he is.
78:29The Rams' safeties are stronger. And the Niners really went at Quentin Lake week one.
78:34And they really, I remember even putting Mike Evans in the slot.
78:38They were pretty good at hunting matchups. I think for New York, for the brain trust of Matt Nagy and Greg Roman,
78:44trying to find ways to get neighbors off of the McDuffie matchup is something that they should endeavor to do.
78:50But also just to find those matchups for Isaiah Likely.
78:53And in addition to the ground game I talked about.
78:56I think the Rams bounce back here. I think Matthew Starr, I think the run game that you alluded to is going
79:03to be pivotal for them in this one. I think they'll have success on the ground against New York.
79:09And then, no, couldn't you just see Aaron Donald coming back in this one and making a big play and...
79:15Splash play? Reminding folks that he's Aaron Donald. I don't know.
79:18I mean, this is... Maui Noah. Maui Noah and Aaron Donald.
79:22Young and old. Let's go. This is, you know, it's closer.
79:25Let me check the odds on this one. I'm interested now.
79:28Now, it is... Yeah, okay. Whoa, jeez, Luis. The Rams might open at 8.5?
79:33Wow, I would hammer the... I'm picking the Rams to win, but that seems...
79:37Yeah. It's in LA. It's a big number. It's a big number.
79:40I feel like Angry Rams maybe is a little bit playing into that.
79:44I assume you're Rams too, or...? Yeah, I'm gonna go Rams on that one.
79:49I just think they gotta stick with the run.
79:51And I think they have success on third down.
79:54Off they go. All right. That's it for the week.
