0:00David Kitchen has spent two decades covering fantasy football, joining CBS Sports all the way back in 2006 as an analyst.
0:06He's now a staple of fantasy football today. He was NFL.com's first ever fantasy football analyst, he's Chicago-born, and he's also a Miami Hurricane.
0:13These are his late-round perspectives. Look at you wearing the White Sox gear.
0:16Hell yeah, man. Gotta represent the hometown team. It gives me hope as a Pirates fan that someday, you know, a turnaround
0:23and insane, you know, underdog story can happen for my team.
0:26I'm gluten-free these days. So I haven't eaten gluten in like eight years, right.
0:30But even still. That's more than these days, JJ.
0:32Yes, that's true. That's a good point. Yeah, these days I haven't had much gluten.
0:37We're going on 2,500 days. Exactly. But I have a an icy light from 2014, which is around the timeframe of like
0:43when the McCutcheon, you know, the, the, the good teams were happening.
0:46This is actually today that we're recording. This is the anniversary of the Johnny Cueto game where he dropped the ball in the wildcard game against the pirates.
0:54And then Russell Martin hit a home run and it was great.
0:58It was one of the best times of my life as a Pirates fan, but regardless, I have an Iron City Light in the fridge from 2014.
1:05So it's like 12 years old. And I've told myself that I will drink that if the pirates ever win a world series.
1:12I see light is an iron city light. I should have probably know what it is.
1:16Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm familiar. You're not, you're not making me question what I see light is.
1:21You're making me question your sanity because you're planning on chugging a, you know, a few day old beer based on how we're measuring days.
1:28Yeah. Look, if the gluten, me not eating gluten's been eight years, this is like, you know, and that was just a couple of days ago.
1:36You know, it's just a week old beer. Right.
1:38I, what do you think I was born yesterday?
1:41Right. Right. Exactly. But it's exciting. The, the, the white socks stuff is, is very exciting.
1:45Oh man. We three straight years of a hundred losses, including the worst season in major league baseball history.
1:51And I paid attention to the team. It's, it's literally, I don't really follow baseball.
1:55Like you're going through this whole Johnny Cueto thing.
1:57I have no idea what you're talking about. No clue.
2:00To be fair. I barely at this point in my life, I am very much just like a very casual baseball follower.
2:06Yes. Okay. So I get it. But like, do you pay attention when Paul schemes pitches?
2:11Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. All right. So that's a step up from a casual follower.
2:16Yeah. I don't think I can name three Pittsburgh pirates.
2:18Okay. Is McCutcheon like on, he was not, he was last year.
2:22He like left and came back stuff. Like I remember hearing, I remember reading about that.
2:26Like I know who Paul schemes is. Yeah. Yeah.
2:29But I, I couldn't name you three pirates. I don't think I can name you five Mets.
2:34Yeah. I can name you everything you want to know about the players on the White Sox.
2:39I'm a fan. Yeah. That's all I am too.
2:41Yeah. Because I, I can't be a fan of any NFL team.
2:44Right. Right. And I like watching the NBA. I ended up rooting for the Knicks this year.
2:49It's something I never did in my life as a Chicagoan in hockey.
2:53I love, I love Stanley cup hockey. I live in South Florida.
2:56I, I root for the Panthers. And of course I root for the Blackhawks when they make it that far.
3:02But I, the, the only sport where I can like be the only pro sport where I can be just a total
3:08fan, an idiot, obnoxious fan is the white socks baseball.
3:11Yeah. Yeah. And I, I just, I, I have to keep it that way just to keep me sane.
3:17Cause I don't root for the bears. I don't even like the bears.
3:20Yeah. I don't root for any NFL team. You know who I root for on Sundays.
3:25I root for the players that I tell people to start.
3:28That's that's safe. Yes. People think that we're just worried about it.
3:31Like, of course we want our fantasy teams to do well and there's overlap there.
3:36Right. Of course. But like we have a lot on the line in just terms of advice that we're giving, right?
3:41Like that, that's what I care about more than anything else, you know?
3:45Yeah. Same here. And it's because if we didn't feel that way, then we'd be jerks, JJ agreed.
3:50It just, it, it's, that's a signal to everybody watching that we actually do care about what we say.
3:56And we really try hard to, to help people.
3:58Yes. And now here comes an entire podcast where we're going to do exactly that.
4:02I hope, hopefully, hopefully, well, let's just get right into it.
4:06I thought about this. Like, I don't know if I've seen an immense number of surprises this year compared to previous years necessarily, but there are surprises.
4:13We have seen some crazy things happening. So my first question to you is what do you think has been the most
4:19surprising thing that we've seen through three weeks? So the, the two things that I thought of, cause you, you gave me
4:26this question before the show, and I'm so glad you did because otherwise I'd be sitting here going, Oh, I don't know.
4:32I'm a big, big show sheet guy, big show.
4:35Yeah, I know. It's cool. Number one, it feels like there is so much, there's been so much unpreparedness.
4:40Is that a word? Unpreparedness from new play callers.
4:42I'm not talking about the first year guys, but look at the chargers, look at the, look at the giants, look at the bucks.
4:49What are they doing? What the hell is going on?
4:52Yeah. And then like, even there's even some of the guy like Mannion and Blau, like there were some good things from Blau last week.
4:59It was a little suspect before that. Yep. Mannion.
5:02I don't know if he's got things that are, I think we gave too much credit to too many of these play callers.
5:08And the one guy we gave absolutely no credit to is Brad Idzik.
5:12And through the first two, two and a quarter games for Carolina, they were outstanding.
5:16Yeah. So it's more, more than new play callers and fewer of them are, are disappointments.
5:21Of course you look at Clint Kubiak and somehow Kirk Cousins has three touchdowns.
5:25I mean, my gosh, I mean, it's crazy. So like, there's an example of a new play caller, new team, new offense for the team doing great things.
5:33Yeah. But for every Kubiak, there's like two McDaniels.
5:35Yeah. Yeah. And that, that, that's the first thing.
5:38The second thing is just the number of disappointing pass catchers from neighbors, a Buka, Loveland, Jamison Williams.
5:43Like we're, we're kind of at the point with these guys where at best, they're low end number two, wide receivers.
5:49In the case of Loveland, um, a really shiny, cool bench player that you, you just, you can't have a lot of
5:55faith and trust in and each for different reasons, but that stood out to me.
5:59And then the third thing is just like how hellish the running back landscape is.
6:04Yes. Already. Right. All right. Right. We're three weeks in and it feels like there's six teams that just have nothing.
6:10Yeah. Nothing exciting at running back whatsoever. It was really fun after week one, when we seem to have a really robust
6:16fantasy football landscape where it seemed like we were going to have a lot of players that were going to be relevant this year.
6:23When in the last few seasons, it seems like, okay, there's just like the guys who are it.
6:28And then there's the rest, you know, like you do rankings and such and you're sitting there and you're like, Oh, I'll
6:34rank these eight wide receivers and feel really good about them.
6:37And then I don't know, there's like a tier of 30 guys, you know, like that, that you can, of course, you
6:43know, we're going to say, we like this guy a little bit more than that, but like generally speaking, it's pretty flat.
6:49Right. And after week one, I sat there and I'm like, man, like we actually had, cause week one was high scoring.
6:56It was really fun. And there was a lot of stuff going on.
6:59And I'm like, man, maybe we actually have a situation this year where it will be more like 2020 or something, you
7:06know, like some of those years where we had more scoring and then it just reverted back almost immediately.
7:11Right. Where it's just kind of like, we lose, you're getting these like random spikes.
7:15Like, thank God we got the, you know, we got Luther burden last week.
7:19We got Jalen Waddle in week two and we're getting some, but some of these guys, like you noted, some of these pass catchers, man, it's been brutal.
7:27And I think it does stem from what you were talking about with some of these coordinators too.
7:32And the way that these, these offenses are calling plays, I guess my follow-up to that is, do you think there's anything
7:39that we should have done slash we could have seen, or is this just one of those things where, yeah, like, like
7:45stuff is going to go bad and stuff is going to go well.
7:48But in this case, a lot of that stuff so far has gone bad.
7:52And then is there like some hope to, you know, like we saw it with Jacksonville last year, right?
7:58Jacksonville started off really slow and they were one of the best offenses in the league down the stretch.
8:03And then look what they're doing now this year.
8:06Yeah. So I think it's a little too soon to just say that it's like permanent dumpster fire status in LA or,
8:12you know, New York with the giants or anything like that, because you're right there.
8:16Teams can change rather quickly. And sometimes all it takes is changing offensive line personnel or giving more opportunities to a wide
8:23receiver or shortening a wide receiver's route depth from game to game.
8:26Maybe they're not running his downfield as much, or maybe they need to run downfield a little bit more and try new things.
8:32You know, all of these guys are mad scientists, right?
8:35And so as long as they, they keep trying to find answers and not banging their head against the wall, doing this
8:42exact same thing week after week, we should at least have an open mind to them getting a little bit better.
8:47What could we have done differently? We probably could have taxed the teams with first time play callers, not first year, but
8:54first time play callers a little bit more. And I think that, you know, I say that, and that might've worked out
9:00a little bit in the case of Philly and Washington, but it would not have worked out in the case of Baltimore and Carolina.
9:07So I'm not even sure if that's the other thing to do.
9:10Um, you know, something that I like to do every off season that I didn't do this off season is study the
9:16schedule, grade the defenses and grade the offensive lines.
9:19And that stuff has helped me quite a bit in the past.
9:22Yeah. I didn't do it this year because I really went hog wild doing NFL draft profile stuff for CBS sports.
9:28Yeah. Um, and that's all work I'm really proud of.
9:31And yeah, I can tell you anything you want to know about the top rookies in the league, but I, it, it,
9:37yeah, I had to give something up in order to do that work.
9:41And I, I kind of wish I had that kind of, you know, those, those notes for lack of a better term
9:47of here's what I think a defense is going to be.
9:50Here's what I think an offensive line is going to be.
9:54And it's not just, you know, you know, throwing a dart and saying, this is what I think they're going to be or looking strictly at last year.
10:01It's the moves they make, it's the schemes they run, you know, all that nerdy football stuff.
10:06Of course it just ends up in some sort of graphic that says, okay, the schedule is going to be pretty good for Minnesota and Detroit this year.
10:14And it's going to completely suck for new England and Houston, something like that.
10:18Yeah. I think that the schedule stuff, especially some people like really analysts, you know, people that are on podcasts and are,
10:24you know, and they'll say like, I don't understand why analysts are looking at schedule analysis and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
10:31And I'm like, okay, it's like, nothing's gonna be perfect.
10:34Of course it's not gonna be perfect. We're not going to understand exactly how a defense is going to perform and such.
10:40There's a lot, I do an early season schedule and like at least just focusing on the early seasons.
10:45Early. Yeah. Because the late season stuff, things will change, you know, things will, will, you know, guys get hurt and all that kind of stuff.
10:53For me, historically, it's been really helpful. Like it got me off of Brian Thomas pretty much completely in August after I
10:59had done it because of the, just the, the good corner after good corner, after good corner.
11:04And then on top of that, it ended up being, oh, he's not playing in heavy personnel either.
11:09And so it's just an even worse situation, you know, for, for Brian Thomas and like those kinds of things, you know,
11:15we're just looking for small edges, man. This is not about like finding the golden key and, and turning that and winning a fantasy championship.
11:22This is about finding these small edges through doing this analysis.
11:25And that can be really helpful when all of those come together and, and you know, and, and create a larger edge for you.
11:32If anything, JJ, they're tiebreakers, right? Right. And so you probably got to a point in your BtJ versus let's really, let's
11:38really kick BtJ in the gut here. Michael Wilson.
11:41Right. Well, I wish I was more into white Michael Wilson, but yeah, like you do that compare and listen, Mike Wilson
11:47had a nasty schedule outlook to everybody in Arizona did.
11:50Right. But you might've looked at it and said, you know what, even with that bad schedule, Hey, at least it means
11:56that they're going to be throwing right. A lot more.
11:59And this is a guy who's better suited for, for the floor's offense.
12:03Then, then BtJ might be for what this iteration of the Jaguars offense is.
12:07Yeah. A hundred percent, a hundred percent. Um, so we're, we're kind of talking small sample size here.
12:12My question would be, when do you start to shift your focus and say, okay, I can drop all of my priors.
12:18You know, there's been, been research done. I've done a little bit of research, you know, others in the space have done
12:24some research to say like ADP becomes not predictive after like week four for this position, whatever the case may be.
12:30But I'm, of course, yeah. Like, like you can say that over a large sample, but I don't think that it just
12:36like is very easy to apply necessarily. Right. So my, my question for you is, is essentially like, how long are you
12:43holding onto priors or are you at the point right now where you're just like, you know what?
12:48I can analyze the first three games of the season and kind of have a good feel and probably a better feel
12:54of what's going to happen this year, as opposed to how I felt back in the middle of August.
12:59So as soon as my reasons for preseason priors are invalid, I'm done with them.
13:04There's absolutely no reason to stick with the reasons why you like a player or the reasons why you dislike a player.
13:10If what they've shown you, even if it's in one game, right.
13:13It's, you know, it turns what you think on its head.
13:16I'll give you some examples. It was easy to do in the case of Malik neighbors.
13:21I was bullish on Malik neighbors. I, I, I, not only did I buy into all of the reports, I asked people
13:27who were at giants practice, like, is this for real?
13:30Have you watched them run? Is there anything? No, no, no.
13:33He looks great. He's going to be great. He should be great.
13:36Okay, fine. When Jackson dark goes down in week two, you know, the story changes from Malik neighbors and the outlook changes
13:43from Malik neighbors, but that's an easy one. Sure.
13:45And it was very easy in the case of Drake may another player that I was really excited about and had him ranked as my number three quarterback.
13:53Yeah. As most. Yeah. And, and I, I drafted him.
13:56I thought I was drafting him at value in round six or round seven in all these expert leagues.
14:01And then he was terrible in week one. AJ Brown goes down easy to completely throw out everything that I thought about Drake may.
14:08And honestly, like I kind of went into panic mode and on every single team with Drake may, I had another quarterback by before week two start.
14:16Right. And that quarterback is now starting for me.
14:18And Drake may is either on my bench or on the waiver wire in those leagues, but it's a little harder in
14:25the case of somebody like, um, well, I don't know how much harder it is now, but let's say going into week
14:31three for a Mecca Buka, because I had high hopes for Buka.
14:34I absolutely love the way that a Buka played in those first five games as a rookie.
14:39And he still continued to get a lot of targets from Baker Mayfield.
14:43And yeah, there was a toe injury, but exact same thing as neighbors.
14:46He's practicing the week before the season, 10 days before the season, call people up in Tampa.
14:51Hey, how does he look? Yeah, he looks great.
14:54He's going to be good. Okay, great. And then you watch him in week one and he does look great.
15:00Right. But Baker looks like trash and Baker's holding the ball and it looks like father time has finally gotten to Baker Mayfield and now he's hurt.
15:07So you have to throw those prayers out the window.
15:10I was throwing those prayers out the window before week three anyway, but now it's Jalen Daniels and that offense in Tampa
15:16and it's, it's going to get worse. So I said, the point is, is as soon as all my reasons for liking
15:22or disliking a player are proven wrong, I'm done with those priors.
15:26I deal in reality, JJ, I don't deal in, gosh, I wish this guy is going to, I don't, I don't, I don't hope.
15:33And I don't wish I try and find real, I use reality.
15:36Yeah. And what these coaches have done before and what these players have done before as a guide for what I think will happen from week to week.
15:44Yeah. I think it's, it's important for analysts to, to say, Hey, my priors are my priors and we got new information
15:50and I'm going to adjust those priors based on this new information.
15:54You know, I say to listeners all the time, I don't take W's and L's in season.
15:59It doesn't matter. Right? Like we don't need to sit here and be like, I got this wrong.
16:04I got this right. You know, it's like, okay, we'll deal with it at the end of the year.
16:09We'll see when everything's over and we can, we can, you know, learn from our processes, learn from our mistakes and kind of go from there.
16:16But in season, we're just trying to manage these teams and manage the chaos and hope for the best.
16:22And there's no use in kind of like digging through all of that.
16:25Right. But I do think that understanding where we're pivoting, how we're pivoting, you know, is very important to how we're managing our team.
16:32One situation where that definitely exists right now is your, your, uh, a homeland Chicago where, where you have Kalief Raymond.
16:38I sent a tweet out the other day, the year 10 breakout is all I said after he had that, that touchdown in that game.
16:45But the Kalief Raymond stuff is just fascinating to me.
16:48Like I brought it up on some shows earlier this week.
16:51You know, obviously we've been talking about it, et cetera, et cetera.
16:55I want to know where you're at with Kalief Raymond.
16:57And like, cause I think this is one of those situations.
17:01Like some of the examples you showed or you just, you just shared made tons of sense.
17:05And there, but there's like a very fine, like sits something that happened in those situations, injuries, let's say, you know, to
17:12a quarterback, you know, or whatever where you can then say, okay, obviously the priors are, are changing the Chicago one.
17:18Yes. We have the Caleb Williams injury. And I do think that that certainly can adjust the way that we were thinking
17:24maybe about the pass catchers to a degree, but regardless, like the people who are sitting there victory lapping a Colston Loveland
17:30or a Roma Dunze or whatever right now, I sit there and I'm thinking like, okay, was your process that you thought
17:36Kalief Raymond was going to see a 23% target share in the offense?
17:40You know, like, was, was that the reason that you were fading these guys?
17:44So what are you doing with Kalief Raymond? Like, do you think that people are still not into this situation and into him enough in fantasy football?
17:52If they are, then they're sticking with their preseason priors and not dealing with reality because the reality is that he's playing,
17:58he's running around on 70% of the bears drop backs.
18:01His target per route run rate is 26%, almost 27, no, about 26%.
18:04I have it open right here on my screen and he's catching over 90% of his targets.
18:09We, the problem that we made this year was that we miscast Luther burden and Colson Loveland in their roles in the office.
18:16And this is where hearing information before the season starts can hurt you because I heard from two different sources in Chicago,
18:22this offense is going to revolve around Colson Loveland.
18:25And when it's not him, it's going to be Luther burden.
18:28All right. Rocket ship emojis up. Yeah. Let's go with Colson Loveland.
18:31Let's take him with a top 40 pick. Let's take Luther burden with the top 50 or 60 pick probably top 60
18:37pick 50 might seem a little bit too much and let's just rock and roll.
18:42But what's ended up happening is this dude, Kalief Raymond, who's been in Ben Johnson system for a long time, knows what
18:48to do, knows how to find soft spots against zone is a good route runner.
18:52And he's, he can separate man. Like he was playing special teams for a while because of his speed.
18:57He would occasionally play on offense for much of the previous nine years because of his speed.
19:02And guess what? He still has that speed. And now he's got an opportunity to make himself available when Caleb Williams consistently
19:08turns down the first read runs all over the place and then looks for somebody downfield.
19:13And it's Kalief Raymond. Yeah. And then as for last week, case Keenum did exactly what I thought case Keenum was going to do.
19:20And that's get rid of the ball quick. Right.
19:22And if you go and you look at how the bears operated last year, Luther burden was the top target getter.
19:28He had the most designed plays when the quarterback is getting the ball out in two seconds.
19:33Right. But you have to think that somebody who's got a low a dot and lots of speed is also going to
19:39be a candidate to get a lot of those short targets.
19:43Yeah. Not Roma doon say, right. Not Colson, Loveland, Kalief Raymond.
19:46He's at worst a number three receiver. He has been picked up in all of my leagues.
19:50I don't really have a problem starting him because I think the bears are going to continue to be one of the
19:57better offenses that put up a lot of points in this league, whether it's Caleb Williams, Tyson, Bajan, case Keenum, doesn't matter.
20:03They've got a genius at play caller and Kalief Raymond is clearly somebody who understands what that genius is all about.
20:09I agree. You know, I think that after, you know, week one, I think it's fine to react and be like, okay,
20:15it's kind of a weird game and the way that things went down.
20:19And then, you know, week two, you could even argue it was a little bit strange because the weather and there was
20:25just, you know, it was a tough defense. And, uh, you know, I thought Caleb in that game, they needed to have
20:31the game plan that they had week three for week two.
20:34And they, they, you know, Caleb has had the issue of holding onto that rock.
20:39What were you going to say? Go ahead. I was going to say, I think they might have.
20:44Yeah. Right. Right. Caleb Williams is like, yeah, forget that.
20:47I'm Superman. Right. Exactly. Exactly. I mean, even on the play, he got hurt JJ, how many, I don't know about you.
20:53How many times have you watched the play? Oh yeah.
20:56Multiple times. Yeah. Yeah. He had a touchdown to Loveland.
20:59Yeah. Yeah. And instead he's selling love, go block.
21:01Yeah, exactly. Go block that guy. I'm running it in my, my, my hopium, my hopium here is that that Caleb will stop.
21:08Like when we say that and we're like, we're like, Hey, Caleb's going to stop running as much because he was hurt and yada, yada, yada.
21:15I think there's some truth to it, but there's also, this is part of their DNA, like Jackson dart, you know, like
21:21it's part of his being playing the game of football.
21:24Like he can't just stop being careless with his body because that's the way that he's played football his entire life, you know?
21:31And so I don't think it's going to be massively easy for Caleb.
21:34Just be like, okay, I'm going to sit in the pocket and get rid of the ball in two and a half
21:40seconds instead of three and a half seconds. It's a big jump.
21:44That's a big change that he'll have to do mentally to get through.
21:48But that being said after week two, I'm like, okay, you know, Raymond still has the peripherals and he's still producing, you know, more than we expected.
21:55I think last week, if you're still just be like ignoring what's going on here simply because, you know, we didn't see
22:01it happening in August and in July, I think it's a little bit foolish.
22:05Now I tried to pull some comps, which is insane because it's a year 10 wide receiver where like, this just doesn't
22:12have ever got to be a laundry list of dudes.
22:15Yeah. The year 10 breakouts, the one player that I talked about on my show earlier this week, that stood out as
22:21very similar, like route shares, target shares and fantasy production to start the season.
22:25And then also had from an ADP perspective, a lot of players that were drafted well ahead of, so he was drafted
22:31really late and then had teammates drafted really early, right?
22:34It was Russell gauge in 2020 where he was on the Falcons team with Julio, Calvin Ridley, Hayden Hurst was their tight end.
22:40So it was a very like, you know, they were all drafted relatively early, similar to what we had with this bear situation.
22:47And he started the season off relatively hot. And the thing is he didn't totally tail off.
22:52He, you know, I don't think Khalif Raymond's going to maintain 15 points per game.
22:56You know, I don't think we're, we're there. Yeah.
22:58Right. It would be pretty surprising, but I think that there's a chance that he's still going to be, like you said,
23:05like a top, like he can be a top 50 wide receiver in fantasy.
23:09Like he can be a wide receiver for type.
23:11I mean, it sounds like you're probably even more bullish than I am with, with Raymond.
23:16And I know there are people out there that are all year.
23:19If this continues to any degree are just going to dismiss this, you know, and not, and, and with Russell gauge, he
23:25still maintained like nine to 11 PPR points per game.
23:28And a lot of the comps were in that like wide receiver three to five range.
23:33Like, it's not like they just disappeared after appearing out of nowhere.
23:36Right. And it does make me feel more confident in the Raymond role being a thing.
23:41The weird thing to me is that, you know, to your point in how this offense operates, getting the ball out quickly.
23:47And, and like I said throughout the off season, that the reason I was more into burden than a dunze is even
23:53if you thought a dunze was like the complete wide receiver and like, as a player that just looks the part, you
23:59know, when you watch him, I had a hard time matching that with what number one works in fantasy football, which we
24:06want the cheap stuff, you know, like we want the, the easy stuff for these wide receivers, but the Ben Johnson offense
24:12also is get these guys open on these crossers, get them in space and allow them to do a lot after the catch.
24:18And no one can scheme arguably better for their wide outs than Ben Johnson can.
24:23And so with burden in his profile, the dudes, I mean, go watch week three.
24:27The dude is a dog. I mean, he is, he's really, really good with the ball in his hands.
24:32You know, he's great after the catch. And the weird thing to me is that like in week three, especially those are
24:39the two guys who ate in that game where Kalief Raymond and Luther burden.
24:43And there's more overlap in their game than there would be a Raymond to an adunze, but adunze has been the one
24:49that's really been the odd man out. You know, he's like a 12% target share to start the season.
24:54Do you think that balance kind of changes things a little bit?
24:58Or do you think this is just an offense where, you know, you're going to get these better routes from a Raymond and burden.
25:04And those are the guys that we're probably going to rely on in fantasy.
25:08I don't think the bears have any reason to change the role for Romo dunze.
25:13I think if anything's going to happen, they're going to wait for defenses to say, all right, we need to do something about burden and Kalief Raymond.
25:20And I'm going to imagine that defenses are going to be really hesitant to do such a thing, because that means it's
25:27going to be lesser coverage on a dunze and Loveland.
25:29So the bears just have this embarrassment of riches among wide receivers who are either supremely talented or just, they know what
25:36to do and they know exactly what to do and, or both of those things.
25:40And that's going to lead to every defense picking their poison.
25:43Oh, by the way, they can also run the ball because they've got a really good offensive line.
25:48And you talked about it. Caleb Williams is not going to change his style.
25:52So he's a threat too. So as long as this really comes down to, can Caleb Williams be a more efficient player
25:58in, in the game that he has right now in his game, which is sometimes he'll make the first read.
26:04Sometimes he won't at the first sign of pressure, he's going to run out of the pocket.
26:09Thank goodness. He keeps his eyes downfield. Thank goodness.
26:11He holds the ball until the very last second before the edge of his cleat hits the chalk and he can still
26:18make a cross body throw 25 yards downfield. Like, like I talked about it.
26:22I do a show on YouTube every week with Scott Turner, the former play caller in the NFL.
26:27And I just, I get his insight and, and he says it best.
26:30It's a fine line between trying to reel in somebody like this or just let them be.
26:35But for the most, our coaches want them to be who they are.
26:39They in the Williams was the one Oh one in the NFL draft because of who he is because he's willing to play Superman.
26:46Now think of all the quarterbacks that refuse to play Superman.
26:49They want to just take the check desk and, and he, and he can be very good at it.
26:54So Ben Johnson's going to lean into that, whether it means good things or bad things, he just needs, he needs just
27:00to be more efficient and more accurate. If it's going to mean numbers across the board every week for a doomsday Loveland burden Raymond.
27:07And I just, I don't, I, I think it's unrealistic for four guys and maybe our mistake going into the 2026 season
27:13was thinking that it was realistic for three guys.
27:16Yes. Because I don't think that that's realistic either.
27:19And it's almost like the best advice probably been, okay, everybody, this bears offense should be good.
27:23Ben Johnson's a genius. Caleb Williams can play great.
27:26Pick your favorite two and target those two. Yeah.
27:28And that's kind of what I did. Yeah. Doomsday was the odd man out for me then.
27:33Yeah. And, and I think he's still going to be the odd man out until the bears see coverage that changes and
27:40maybe it just takes more teams agreeing to play more man to man.
27:43And then it's a doomsday and single coverage. And I'm pretty sure Caleb Williams will take Romo Doomsday in a one-on-one every time.
27:50Yeah. But the other issue though, and I, I, I talk about this on my mailbag.
27:54That's, that's going to be out by the time this is out.
27:58But an issue with this is that like in the fantasy space, we've, we've talked about a dot for so many years
28:04now, you know, Mike clay created it, you know, like 12 years ago, 13 years, however long ago.
28:09I think it's longer than that. We've been, we've been around for what you've been, you know, you've been around even longer than me.
28:16Yeah. Dude, I helped bring Mike clay into the fantasy.
28:19It's crazy. And I got him inducted into the fantasy hall of fame.
28:22There's a fantasy hall of fame. If you can believe that.
28:25Yes. It's crazy. What a bunch of geeks we are.
28:28We are, very, very nerdy, but, but I think that we, as a, as a, an analyst community have sometimes done a
28:35disservice to listeners and players when we talk about a dot, because I think that the translation to many is that higher
28:41a dot equals better that higher a dot is, is good.
28:44Right. It's not, you don't want like Khalil Shakir type usage, right?
28:47Like you don't, cause in order for that player to really work out, he needs to see like a 35% target share.
28:54You know what I mean? Like he needs to just be peppered with those looks.
28:58But the problem is that when you get a player in the way that they're deploying Roma duns a right now, where
29:04all of the crossers and the intermediate routes are going to Kalief Raymond and Luther burden and a duns a is running more of the deep patterns.
29:12That's a problem because now his eight out is 17 yards and you're going to get this massive inconsistency from week to week.
29:18And so if the thought, you know, again, going back to how we were thinking going to the season, if anyone out
29:24there was thinking that a duns a was going to be able to see a little bit more of that work and
29:31through three weeks, we're not seeing that at all with, with Roma duns a route tree and the way that they've deployed him.
29:37That's a big problem if, and when that continues.
29:40And like you said, I don't know if there's a reason for it to not continue right now.
29:45It's true. And to the, the point of a dot, and I'm trying to look this up on the fly.
29:51I'm trying to find a fantasy player who's succeeding with a high a dot Devante Adams is one right now, but he's absolutely one.
29:57Yeah. But golden's a dot. Yes. Yeah. And then the key here is, all right, you can have a high a dot,
30:04but if you're really good at football and you're getting a lot of volume, like you can, you can be supportive.
30:10So it's not, it's not, there, there is no silver bullet stat.
30:13Exactly. Right. The player is great because of strictly this, there's none of that context is so important for literally everything.
30:19Yeah. And it just really boils down to this.
30:21If you're good at football and the ball finds you, you're probably going to be good for fans.
30:27Yes. Yes. It's not to say like, look, if we had a dude who had a 19 yard a dot and he
30:33had a 40% target share, like we take that, we take that all day long.
30:37Right. Of course. But, but yeah, I do think that that's, that's my fear with the duns a right now.
30:43We'll wrap that up and kind of move on from the bear stuff.
30:46But I do think that that's been one of the more interesting topics this season.
30:51I mean, I remember going into the year, I was like, Oh, those three guys could see a 70% target share in the offense.
30:57And meanwhile, they're sitting out like a sub 50% one right now, you know?
31:01And that's just the way that it goes. Sometimes you got to get Sam rush, the football, JJ.
31:07It's just, it's so insane, but you, here's the other thing.
31:10Ben Johnson is sick. He is so sick in the head that he loved, he loved playing case Keenum last week.
31:16You know, like he loved that he was able to do what he did and he knew, he knew, I guarantee you the whole week he's sitting there.
31:24He's like, I know what we have. I know exactly what's going to happen in this game.
31:28And I'm going to be smirking the entire time because we just have a distributor who's good enough, who can escape just enough.
31:35And we're going to use guys like Sam Roush and we're going to get away with it.
31:40He had a guy who would play on time and in structure, right?
31:43Right. Which is why there's Ben Johnson's going to call a play and the play is going to go down exactly as Ben Johnson drew it up.
31:51Yes. Versus Caleb Williams, where you hope that Caleb.
31:54Yes. Yes. Plays it just as he drew it.
31:56It's the Jared Goff stuff. It's why that, that relationship worked the way that it did when he was in Detroit.
32:02Now more than ever, football teams are embracing advanced analytics.
32:05Nothing's more popular right now than coming up with a fancy new stat that helps teams get an edge on game day.
32:11And this season bet three, six, five is embracing a fancy concept of its own bet.
32:16$10 get $200. Here's how it works. When new users sign up with bet three, six, five and place their first $10
32:22bet, they'll get $200 in bonus bets. Fine. Maybe it's not that advanced, but an offer this good doesn't have to be
32:28bet three, six, five or winning is everything. Gambling problem.
32:31Call one 800 gambler or one 800. My reset must be 21 plus and present in a state where bet three, six, five operates.
32:38Please gamble responsibly restrictions in terms and conditions apply void where prohibited.
32:41Download the app today. Nationwide is so much more than a great insurance company.
32:45They're one of America's largest financial services companies, just like I'm so much more than quarterback Peyton Manning.
32:50I'm also Peyton Manning. Insurance and financial services together.
32:53It's a masterpiece. Peyton Manning does it again for your insurance and financial needs.
32:57Nationwide is on your side. Nationwide Investment Services Corporation, member FINRA, Columbus, Ohio.
33:01All right. I got to move on to the waiver wire this week.
33:04We had a lot of bids on the Dolphins backfield.
33:07Where are you at with this Ollie Gordon, Jalen Wright thing?
33:10Do you even care? I don't. I, I, I, I feel terrible for Dolphins fans and I feel terrible for HN fantasy
33:16managers of which I was in a couple of leagues because I have a hard time believing that either of these two
33:23guys will be as good as Devon HN who didn't even have 13 PPR points in any of his games this year.
33:29Right. So I do think the offensive line can get better for Miami.
33:33That's an example of, of a group that I think can get better as the season goes on.
33:38But I, I think the answer for this for Miami is more Malik Willis, more short area targets for Malik Washington and Greg Dulcich and Caleb Douglas too.
33:46You go back and you look to see, all right, it's a small sample size, three games.
33:50How, who's getting the targets when Malik Willis is getting the ball out fast and it's Malik Washington first and foremost.
33:56And it's Greg Dulcich or it's actually Caleb Douglas second and Greg Dulcich third.
34:00So I, I kind of think that that's where Miami is going to end up and there are already, I think they've
34:07played 26 snaps where they're not down by seven or more points in the season.
34:11That's crazy too. And they've been inside the five yard line twice.
34:14So that type of stuff disqualifies Ollie Gordon. Yeah.
34:17Because I don't, I, the dude's averaging less than three yards per carry.
34:20He's, he's, he's, he's a nice guy. He did great in college.
34:24He's just not, I don't see things changing for him.
34:27Yeah. And Jalen Wright is kind of exciting, but every time we get excited about him, something he, well, usually what happens
34:33is the starter comes back and he goes back.
34:36Usually that's not going to happen this time, but I also don't think he's going to turn into Devon HM.
34:41Yeah. I don't think that the offensive coaching staff is creative enough at this point to turn right into H and or
34:47even a, even like 80% of H and especially if right is going to mix and match with Ollie Gordon.
34:53And I'm curious to see what Jarquez Hunter does.
34:56Me too. This is somebody that the dolphins acquired.
34:58He was interesting in college to anybody that Sean McVay is going to draft is certainly going to get a second look from me.
35:05And once Ollie and Jalen poop out, then we could see Jarquez Hunter getting that chance for Miami.
35:10And guess what? He'll probably get about seven PPR points.
35:13Yeah, exactly. My prospect model and my evaluation liked Hunter a lot when he came out.
35:17And so, and I know that people are probably listening to this rolling their eyes because I'm bringing up Jarquez Hunter again.
35:24And obviously Blake Corum ended up breaking out last year and Hunter is nowhere to be found.
35:29But yeah, I mean, like I am kind of intrigued there when I looked at some, some fab bids, especially like my
35:35home leagues that I'm in, you know, the various more local leagues and stuff and high school.
35:40My gosh, some of the fab spent on, on Ollie Gordon and Jalen, right.
35:44I'm, you know, I, I, one of them just blew all of it and, and just, just went after Ollie Gordon and,
35:50you know, maybe, maybe they look good, but I'll tell you what this week they get Minnesota and have an implied total of 14 points.
35:57So it could be, and then after that, what do they have?
36:00Yeah. The bi-week's coming up, right? Well, they've got Cincinnati between Minnesota and the bi.
36:05So those people that spent their fab on Ollie Gordon and Jalen, right there, I'd be, I would be surprised if they feel good about it.
36:12Yeah. Going into the dolphins bi-week and if the dolphins going to their bi-week and they're not getting anything out of their
36:18run game, that's when Jarquez Hunter might be the guy and you're not going to have any fab left.
36:24Yeah. So like our advice on fantasy football today was don't spend a ton of fab on these guys.
36:29Let somebody else do it. And if, if they're right, God bless them.
36:33They're very lucky, but we, we think we've got a pretty good feel for who these running backs are and what these offenses are.
36:39And just because one guy leaves doesn't mean the opportunities are going to go right to one other guy.
36:45There's no one for one. And in the case of what I think is going to happen to Miami, I don't even
36:51think there's going to be a one for one between H and all of the running.
36:56Yeah, exactly. That's a very good point. Very. And we know, as we, as you said, H has just been an RB too so far this year.
37:03So I also had to take, like, I, I, I would have preferred off the waiver wire.
37:08I talked about this with some subscribers and members this week, just Braylon Allen over those guys where, yeah, he was our
37:14number one guy where, where it's like, I'd rather just get the chunk weeks, right.
37:19And, and just win immediately and hope to get, cause right now I'm, you know, he's an RB too this week from
37:25a ranking perspective, like he's in a, in a decent spot.
37:28And so I'd rather just get the, you know, try to win now, as opposed to thinking about it.
37:33Oh, he's out for the year. It's a longterm.
37:36Okay. But you're spreading out those points, very few points across all of those weeks.
37:40You're only going to be getting, you know, you're, you're getting a few points per game.
37:45It's not very valuable. It's the same thing. Whenever we look at like fantasy finishes for the year and you're not looking
37:51at points per game and you're just looking at guys who've survived and were healthy, you know, it's like stupidest thing.
37:57Yeah. Right. It's just not helpful. It's not nearly as helpful.
38:00And so, um, yeah, the Braylon Allen thing, I would just rather go that direction.
38:04If you're going to go somewhere off the way.
38:07Yep. You'll get a bandaid for a couple of weeks and then three weeks from now, there'll be some other terrible injury
38:13and we'll be picking up other backup running. Exactly.
38:16All right. Speaking of roster management, I'm going to go through some players here and I want to, I want you to
38:22tell me if you think these guys are droppable and a 12 team league, let's, you know, six bench spot, just a very like standard fantasy.
38:29Sure. Right. We'll start with Marvin Harrison Jr. Dude, I think he's got to get traded.
38:34Yeah. I think that's, that's, that's the out, right?
38:36That, that, that's the out. The Cardinals have no motivation to do it, but I think for Marvin Harrison to reach the
38:43potential that we thought he had, he needs to get traded, cut weight and get just in an offense that will utilize
38:49him to the strengths that he had when he was 15 pounds lighter coming out of Ohio state.
38:54I just, things aren't going right in Arizona, but what's their motivation?
38:57Why would they trade him? He's, he's doing a good job of keeping a defender clearing everything out for the rest of the team.
39:04Yeah. Like he can still draw a double team sometimes.
39:07So like that's valuable for Arizona's offense. They can't do that with Kendrick Bourne.
39:11They don't have another wide receiver that can do it.
39:14Well, they do, they could use Michael Wilson, but then what good is that?
39:18So I, I, I think Harrison's staying and with that being the case, I think Marv is droppable.
39:23Yeah. I'm with you. I actually dropped them in a league for Kalief Raymond this week.
39:27It was my only, I don't hate it. My only Marvin Harrison Jr.
39:31team this season. And, and I, I got Kalief Raymond for it.
39:34And I, I never in a million, if you were to tell me that a month ago, Dave, I would, I would laugh in your face.
39:42And, and I mean, that's just absurd to think about, but yeah, I mean like Harrison's as Matt Harmon has dubbed, he
39:48is the, the sacrificial X in that offense, you know, he's just got that 18 yard a dot and they're just, you
39:54know, throwing it to him down the field only.
39:57And it's just not a very consistent thing. I will say, I will say, I said this on my sleeper show.
40:03I actually think he has a good matchup this week against the giants.
40:06I do think there's a chance you can't play.
40:09It's one of those situations where like, you can't really put them in your lineup, but I would not be shocked if
40:15we get like a top 30 performance from Marvin Harrison Jr.
40:18This week. Well, that might mean he's going to need more than four targets or he needs to score.
40:24I think this Arizona offense is evolving before our eyes.
40:27And I think they've realized what they have in Jeremiah love.
40:30And I think the ankle injury he sustained, it wouldn't surprise me if we get kind of down weeks from McBride Wilson, a down week from Marvin.
40:37Yeah, of course. But Jeremiah is the one that carries the Cardinals this week against the giants.
40:42Yeah. I mean, look, they, they got by with a ton of volume last year and you know, the McBride, I was not heavy enough in McBride.
40:50I just basically was not very heavy on most of the offense this, this off season in the summer and the McBride stuff.
40:56He's just seen such good per target efficiency now, as opposed to last year, you know, he ran a hundred more routes
41:03than any other tight end since 2016 last year, you know?
41:06So, so it's, it's a weird, it's been a weird thing for McBride to start the year, especially for me.
41:11No, not for me. I, I was, I didn't overthink it with McBride.
41:15I knew that he was the best option for, for Arizona.
41:18And it's not like he's a speedster who can get open.
41:21He's just a matchup problem in the middle of the field and an easy check down guy who's a bull in a China shop.
41:28Once he's got the ball in his hands and he's healthier than Brock Bowers.
41:32Yeah. And there weren't questions about, uh, about his health.
41:35Like there were about Bowers. Like to me, it just seemed a lot easier to roll with McBride.
41:40Are you McBride over Bowers rest of season right now?
41:43Probably for the exact same reason. Okay. Okay. So I, I'm that, that was the thing for me was that I, I,
41:49the gap in ADP for me was to, I just liked Bowers and I, I could foresee a monster season from him.
41:55And that was part of the reason as well of like the not being as heavy into McBride, but I look the way that things have gone.
42:03So I get it. You know, I think that it's, it's reasonable to go with that, you know, the other player as opposed to the Bowers there.
42:11Let's talk about Brian Thomas. How about, how about BTJ?
42:14Where are you at with him? He's in the exact same boat as Marvin Harrison Jr.
42:18Yeah. So he's running, at least he's fast. He's running downfield and, and, and can certainly draw coverage away.
42:23And I don't see what the motivation is for Jacksonville.
42:26What's his contract like JJ, do you know off the top of your head?
42:30I'll look still rookie deal, right? Is it the last year of his rookie deal?
42:34This would be year three right now for him.
42:37Okay. So they've got no motivation to trade him either, unless somebody is going to give up something big.
42:42Right. And listen, I'll, I don't know if he's ever going to amount to anything huge in Jacksonville.
42:48He's, he has talent and he's, he overcame a lot of things last season to make it to this season.
42:53Yeah. And I still think he's working through some of those physical limitations that he might have.
42:58I guess I'm trying to speak around it, but bottom line is now more than ever football teams are embracing advanced analytics.
43:04Nothing's more popular right now and coming up with a fancy new stat that helps teams get an edge on game day.
43:11And this season bet three, six, five is embracing a fancy concept of its own bet.

43:41Download the app today in football. Being good at just one thing isn't enough anymore to succeed.
43:45You have to bring so much more to the field, grit, determination, preparation, strategy, leadership.
43:50It's all part of the game. Just look at today's players.
43:53A quarterback has to do so much more than throw the ball.
43:56They need to read defenses, extend plays and make smart decisions under pressure.
44:00Running backs do so much more than run. They're catching passes, picking up blitzes and finding ways to create opportunities when the play breaks down.
44:07The players who make the biggest impact are often the ones who can do more than what's expected of them.
44:13Whether it's on the field or off, success often comes from being able to do more than one thing well.
44:18Take Nationwide, for example. They're so much more than a great insurance company.
44:22They're one of America's largest financial services companies too.
44:25It's a reminder that sometimes the strongest organizations, just like the strongest players, are the ones built to offer so much more.
44:31For your insurance and financial needs, Nationwide is on your side.
44:34Nationwide Investment Services Corporation, member FINRA, Columbus, Ohio. I think Jacksonville's offense has evolved to a point where they're not reliant on him from week to week.
44:42There will be weeks where they're going to use him and they're going to try and get him the football.
44:47And in a week against Cincinnati, should be two high scoring teams.
44:51Maybe BTJ does get a little bit more involved.
44:53But if he's going to draw DJ Turner in coverage, if he's going to get cloud coverage on top of him, it's
44:59just going to open things up like crazy, especially in man coverage for Parker Washington and for Kobe Myers.
45:05And I like those two guys better than BTJ this week.
45:08Is he droppable? I'd rather drop Marvin than Brian Thomas Jr.
45:11Agreed. So I would say like if it's a little bit smaller of a league, I would drop BTJ, but in a
45:17regular 12 team league, six bench spots, I think I'm going to try and hold on to him.
45:22Yeah, I think that's very, very fair. You know, there have been so many rumors about Brian Thomas Jr.
45:28and them trading him and moving on that. I wonder if there might be a little bit smoke, a little bit of
45:34smoke where there's that fire, but I don't, you know, there's at least been more of that with him than there has been Marvin Harrison Jr.
45:41so far. Sure. I think it would need to be, let's say the commanders win this week, win next week, Terry gets hurt or digs gets hurt.
45:49And Jaden Daniels goes to his front office and says, is there anything you can do to bring my buddy Brian Thomas Jr.
45:56to Washington? And if Washington says, yes, we will do whatever it takes, then maybe they give up a second round pick and Jacksonville says, okay, that's cool.
46:03We'll take it. Yeah. I don't even, I don't even like, again, what's their motivation?
46:08If, if Washington's good, that's a late second round pick.
46:11Is that really what you want in exchange for a guy that can like, he will alter how defenses play against Jacksonville if he's not on the field.
46:19Yeah. So Jacksonville has got to be real careful with the decision on what they do with them.
46:24Plus if something happens to Jacoby or Parker, you know, say they win power ball and decide to retire, Brian Thomas Jr.
46:30is going to become a thing for them. They're going to need them.
46:34Yeah, no, it's fair. I like, like we can't dismiss the fact that like, they need the depth and they're a very
46:40good football team and that they're going to compete.
46:42And so, you know, I think a lot of times we get in our heads like, oh yeah, they don't need because,
46:49because this is, but, but think about your own fantasy team, right?
46:52You're, you're still like, you still want depth, you know, and we're more so trying to optimize our starting lineup more than an NFL team is.
46:59Cause we know that we can get away with that in fantasy.
47:03We can just go to the free agency pool where they can't just do that in the real NFL.
47:08So, well, they do. It's just their free agent pool is a lot different than ours.
47:13Right. It's pretty rough. They're, they're looking for a guy that's got one good trait.
47:17Yes. Yes. And sometimes that trade is, are you in shape?
47:20Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Are you breathing? Yeah. Right.
47:23Yeah. It's really, I always think about like the, like what would this Jacksonville offense look like right now?
47:28If Travis Hunter never got hurt last year, you ever think about that?
47:32That's sort of the, no, I don't because the domino effect of it is what it is.
47:37Yeah. I, I don't have time to think about that.
47:39I mean, we're in week four, man. Yeah. Yeah.
47:42Forget the hypothetical. I'm glad, you know what? I'm glad he's barely playing offense.
47:46Cause that's one less mouth for Trevor Lawrence to throw.
47:49That's true. That's true. What about Justin Herbert? Are we done with Herbert?
47:52Yeah. I think in a 12 team league, you can move on from him.
47:56I reviewed their film from week three today and while they're starting to make a few positive changes, Justin Herbert still like
48:03there were multiple times in the game against Buffalo where he just flat out does not see the safeties and he's throwing
48:09deep balls that are just easily picked off. So I don't like that at all.
48:13Like his fourth quarter interception is an indictment on his ability to read coverage.
48:17And then on top of that, Trey Harris is making mistakes.
48:20Quentin Johnson is making mistakes. Vlad McConkie is playing hurt and he's getting double teamed a lot.
48:25And that's part of the reason why, why Herbert isn't throwing him more.
48:29We're sitting here going, why isn't Vlad McConkie getting 10 targets a game?
48:32It's because he's drawing double coverage all the time and defenses have realized, yeah, we want Justin Herbert to throw to these receivers that aren't reliable, very good.
48:40Right, right, right. So like they, these receivers might run the best route and they might drop the ball or Herbert might
48:47be pressured and the ball goes three feet over their head.
48:50And he, he was literally turning down or on to Gadsden for throws last week.
48:54Like a Gadsden's Oh, they're there. It's fourth and 10.
48:57They're not going to win the game. Gadsden's wide open for what amounts to a check down that he probably could have gotten a first down on.
49:04Yeah. And Justin Herbert just turns the other way.
49:07Yeah. For us to Trey Harris and it's incomplete or shorter or whatever.
49:11It doesn't even matter who cares because the charges are terrible.
49:14But on top of all that, I think I can't help but think that Justin Herbert is staring at the prospect of,
49:20oh my God, here we go again. Another year where I've got to carry this team without an offensive line and it's a new offense.
49:27And this new offensive coordinator is, you know, maybe not what I'm used to.
49:31And I wonder if that's playing into how he's playing and how he, he's trying to do too much out there.
49:37And on top of that, the run game is just like, it's not non-existent.
49:41It is two thirds unexciting and one third, very exciting.
49:44But the exciting part is a guy who's undersized and one big hit and he could be out for a couple of weeks yet.
49:51I still love him. Yeah. And I'm still trying to get, I'm talking about Keaton Mitchell.
49:55I want to get Keaton Mitchell on a bunch of teams because I think they can use him more and they need
50:01exciting players who can make explosive plays. And I don't think Hampton's it.
50:05I think he is, but I just think the chargers have so much work to do that.
50:10Yeah. I would drop Justin Herbert at this point.
50:12What about his receiver, Quentin Johnston? Are you done with him too?
50:16I don't even know who that is. Okay. We can move on from Quentin Johnston.
50:20Yeah. I mean, my goodness is he had a rough start to the season.
50:24Yeah. It's too bad because last year he started red hot and then he ended up finishing the year with about 12
50:30PPR points per game, which is where he was in 2024.
50:33So I kind of went in, in the year thinking, all right, that's just who he is.
50:38He's 11.5 to 12 PPR points per game. That's still worth a good pick somewhere between, you know, pick 70 and 90 overall.
50:45And so I took him in a few leagues and now I'm kicking myself for it.
50:49Yeah. I think I wouldn't surprise me if they tried to use Trey Harris more and that same, same.
50:55That was one of my transactions this week was that was adding Harris just because I think they might, they might just need to pull that plug.
51:02And I'm not, I'm not a big Trey Harris guy, but I just think the chargers are looking, I mean, they, they
51:09freaking signed Marquez Valdez scantling for crying out loud.
51:11So they're looking for somebody with some speed and length to play a role in that office.
51:16Yeah. Agreed. How about Drake man? I mean, you mentioned him, are you dropping may or is it more of a throw them on your bench thing?
51:24It's more of a throw on the bench than drop thing.
51:27Yeah. I definitely don't trust him until AJ Brown's back and AJ Brown looks like AJ Brown.
51:32Yeah. Uh, I, I like knowing that Brown is making progress in his ankle injury or his recovery from it.
51:37And so I think I'm willing to give Drake may another shot.
51:41Once AJ Brown is good. I might need to see it first, but now I'm also starting to get a little bit
51:47of jittery nerves about the offensive line. Yes. Cause they're on their third string, right guard.
51:51They start taking more injuries there. I mean, we've seen may struggle with pressure when that offensive line's healthy.
51:57What's going to happen when it's not healthy. So this, this season could capsize quickly.
52:01And by the way, if I'm in dynasty, I'm buying Drake, I probably would be too.
52:06Yeah. This year is not the end. I'll be all for him.
52:09Right. He can, he can revert. We've now that we've seen a great year from him and now we're seeing, you know, a crummy year from him.
52:17It wouldn't surprise me if things change again for new England going into 2027 and he's back to being a stud.
52:23So if you've got them in dynasty, hold them.
52:25And if you are looking for someone to buy law on in dynasty, I think Drake may, I think the time is there.
52:32If you want a silver lining with the may stuff, you know, we knew last year he performed really well against bad competition, right?
52:39Like that was the thing that he did well last year was he was able to, to come through, you know, against
52:45bad teams and their schedule opens up over the next handful of weeks.
52:48At least it does. It's a lot better than the start.
52:52And you could kind of tell yourself a story of like, okay, it was a gauntlet of teams throughout the playoffs last year.
52:58And then they get, they open up the season against Seattle and then Pittsburgh.
53:02And then last week they get Jacksonville, not a bad defense, but also you could just say, what if it's just a
53:08bad game by, you know, like that one-off thing can happen as well.
53:12I mean, Drake may last week did not, I mean, that was one of the worst.
53:17I mean, I know he's been bad, but last week was like ultra bad for, for, for Drake may.
53:22Um, and so, I mean, that that's, that to me is like the silver lining is that, yeah, well, the schedule at
53:28least is getting a little bit better. Yeah. And if it'll coincide with AJ Brown being back.
53:33Yeah, exactly. All right. Last one, Chris Godwin. I respect his game so much and he's just one of those dudes that's so great.
53:40You know, there's a bunch of good guys. Yeah, of course.
53:43Yeah. And this universe just roots for, yeah. And Evans and Godwin are those good guys, but I, I it's, it's over.
53:49Yeah. Yeah. He's, he's certainly, he's more droppable than Brian Thomas, probably more droppable than Quentin Johnston and probably more droppable than Marvin Harrison jr.
53:56Yeah. I think that this is one of those situations where like, he probably like, like we saw the injury obviously right
54:02before the injury a couple of years ago, he was dominating, but it was awesome post-injury.
54:07He just hasn't been looked the same, been the same.
54:10And then on top of that, you layer on this offense and this situation.
54:14And it's just like, it's rough. It's real, real rough.
54:17And then I'll, you know, Ted Hurst actually has been looking pretty good to start the year too.
54:22So there's, there's more competition, you know, than, than some might've thought entering the year.
54:26It's true. All right. Are you more concerned about Malik neighbors or Amari and Hampton moving forward?
54:31I'm, I'm that soccer coach meme. Oh boy. I am probably more concerned about Malik neighbors.
54:35Okay. Cause I think, I think Hampton will have a role no matter what.
54:39He might just turn into the thunder and a thunder and light and combo for the chargers.
54:44And yeah, you can start him and say, all right, maybe you can get me 50 yards in a touchdown.
54:50I don't think he's going to get me many catches anymore, but with neighbors, it actually has less to do with him
54:56and so much to do with who they have a quarterback.
54:59I think I watched Jamis's film and maybe it was because of the weather, but that was the worst quarterback play I've seen this year.
55:06Yeah. Bar none. And I, Jamis is another guy we love to root for.
55:10And if you've ever met him, JJ, he's just, he's a wonderful guy to be around, but he's slower.
55:16His movements are slower. I think the way he's processing coverage is slower.
55:19It's, it's just getting older. And then the velocity on his throws, isn't what it used to be.
55:24I'm actually, no one's going to hear this, right?
55:27Yeah. No, no, no, no one listens to this podcast.
55:30I'm kind of, I'm kind of curious to see what it will look like when JJ McCarthy throws to Malik neighbors.
55:36Yeah. And I'm, I'm even like the, the, the teeniest bit excited about it because I know that McCarthy, hopefully he'll be accurate enough.
55:43And I don't think he'll be asked to do too much when he does play, but at least he'll throw with velocity
55:49and neighbors can adjust to any throw around his catcher.
55:52Right. Right. He can get it and he can make a plan by then, by then I hope Malik neighbors is over
55:58the, Oh, am I okay to play? Is my body holding up?
56:01Am I right? Hopefully he's over that. And he's back to being in that mindset that he was in before he got hurt.
56:08Yeah. I mean, look, Malik neighbors got it done with Tommy DeVito, you know, like, like he's, he's able to, to do,
56:14I mean, he's played with like five different quarterbacks in terms of running like 40 plus routes.
56:19I looked at this last week and I was, I was too bullish on, I mean, I wasn't bullish, but I was
56:25too bullish versus what ended up happening with, with Jamison in week three and such with the movement at quarterback.
56:31Right. And with, with neighbors himself. And obviously after watching that last week, it's like, Oh wow, that was, that was real bad.
56:37You know, the way that that offense operated, the way that James played.
56:41But I think that the one thing with neighbors that should make you at least feel, I agree by the way, with the Hampton versus neighbors thing.
56:49Like I would, I would say the same thing.
56:51Yeah. I think Hampton can at least like get something, just get some volume and like, like be maybe an RB two for you.
56:58Like just because the, the position is as weak as it is, but wide receiver, you know, talent can take you very
57:04far at the position, but you do need, like, if you just have zero distributor at the quarterback position, it can become very, very dire.
57:11And we saw that with Justin Jefferson last year, you know, like it can, it can, it can be scary, but you
57:18know, at least we have a backbone of Malik neighbors and a semi, you know, it's a year, a little bit over
57:24a year of neighbors doing serious work with like bad quarterback play, you know, like legitimately bad quarterback play.
57:29So that, that would be the, the, at least the good part about what you have with neighbors right now.
57:35I think so. Yeah. Is there anyone out there right now that you really like that you think is just like a
57:41good bench stash that maybe not a lot of people are talking about and that, that you should throw on the bench.
57:47So Keaton Mitchell would be one of those guys.
57:50James Connor is one of those guys. And that's a, that's a weird one.
57:54It's a murky one. You're going to need an IR spot for him.
57:58But what you see the Cardinals have for him.
58:00He's on the last year of his deal. True.
58:03I think, I think Michael floor calls his brother and it's like, dude, you're running game sucks.
58:07Yeah. I got a guy, but he's got to heal up first.
58:11Yeah. And so if that happens, I think James Connor can end up being a thing.
58:15I don't know if he'll be as good as he once was.
58:19It'd be better than Caleb Johnson and Marshawn. He will be better than Caleb Johnson.
58:23Gosh, there's so many things in common between Caleb Johnson and Omari and Hampton right now.
58:28It's scary. That's, that's pretty frightening. That's very frightening.
58:30Actually, Kendra Miller kind of stands out to me in new Orleans, but that's a short-term thing.
58:35Yeah. RJ Harvey stands out to me in Denver.
58:38That's also a short-term thing. I don't know why I'm only thinking about running backs, but that's kind of the position that,
58:44that kind of matters right now because we can find other players at wide receiver and a tight end.
58:49Yeah. Speaking of RJ Harvey, I thought that he's looked decent this year, you know, like a lot, like, you know, I,
58:55and I thought JK Dobbins has not looked that great so far.
58:59Like he's tried to cut to the outside many times and it's just not happening for him.
59:04And that's my fear with, with where Dobbins is at right now.
59:07And Harvey has a great matchup from like a pass catching running back standpoint this weekend too.
59:12So I'm, I'm intrigued by Harvey. I think that he's an, he's an interesting, like, you know, he can be like an
59:18RB three type, maybe even an RB two, given the way that the position has fallen this year and where things are at.
59:25So I do like that, that call out quite a bit.
59:28Do you have any buy candidates right now? Yeah.
59:30I mean, again, my mind is only on running backs and I gave out these names on fantasy football today on Wednesday
59:37where we basically go through all of our buy low or buy high candidates on Wednesday.
59:41I think the expensive guys are chase Brown and Saquon Barkley because the people that have them rostered are probably a little unhappy with their return so far.
59:49I think Jordan Mason, if you can wait out his injury, I like some injury dude, I think he'll be discounted because
59:55the team that has Jordan Mason can't use them.
59:58And when he comes back, I, I, I know Aaron Jones is the thing now.
60:02I don't know if he's going to be the same thing when Jordan Mason comes back.
60:07Yeah. Uh, breeze halls in that same boat, but he's going to be a little costlier.
60:11And I know we're going into week four and quinch on Judkins place on Thursday, as far as getting him at a discount.
60:18I like it. I wouldn't pay the same type of value as where people drafted quinch on, but at least he's getting the work.
60:24And I, you tell me like, if you're desperate for running back, you just lost HN, you just lost ETN.
60:30You want a body. You just want a body, but you don't want to buy that's going to get your four fantasy.
60:36Sure. Sure. Sure. You want to do a little bit better than that and have somebody that at least has a chance to do it.
60:43And in the case of quinch on his last two games are 9.8 and 9.9.
60:48If you're paying that type of price for quinch on Judkins, okay.
60:51Right around 10 PPR points. I mean, that's kind of like a bench player.
60:55So I think you're going to need to kick in a little bit more than that.
61:00But if you're doing that, I think you'll be relatively okay with the result of quinch on Judkins on your fantasy team, but you better hurry up.
61:07We're recording this on Thursday afternoon before their game.
61:10Yeah. Uh, but maybe somebody that survives the game, maybe he does.
61:13Okay. Maybe he sucks. If he sucks, his price tag will go down even more.
61:17Sure. Yeah. And you can roll with him going into week five.
61:21All right. One last thing. Give me a bold take for this week of the NFL season.
61:26This makes me want to go back and look at who I picked to win games this week.
61:31And I also want to give a bold take.
61:33That's actually like reflected in my rankings. Yeah. I don't just want to be like, Oh, the Carolina Panthers are going to shut out the Lions.
61:41Like my, my take for, and this will be out before the, my, we do the late round fantasy football show myself
61:47and David kitchen on, on YouTube every Friday. But like I got, I said, the Marvin Harrison jr.
61:52Thing earlier, I have him as a top three.
61:55I don't have him ranked there, but I think he'd be a top 30 wide receiver this week.
62:00Okay. You know, that's, that's pretty cool. I think Josh downs can be a top 20 wide receiver.
62:05Oh, I love it. Is that good? Let's make it a top 15.
62:09Josh downs is going to be the number one receiver in fantasy for the next four years.
62:13There it is. There's the boldness. There's the fire.
62:16Oh man. Yeah. And then he's going to play for the pirates and win a world series single-handedly for the pirates.
62:22And you can have your, I see a old 14 year old icy light.
62:26Yes. And he will, he will. Josh downs will be the reason that I am live streaming myself chugging an icy light.
62:32That's 14 years old. It'd be all because of Josh downs.
62:35Dave, I appreciate it. We also be live streaming your trip to the emergency room.
62:39Yes, exactly. Exactly. All the, all the gluten Dave, I appreciate the time, man.
62:43This was awesome. I always love talking to you and doing the show missed you at the expo this year.
62:49You know, really love seeing you whenever you're there and we get to hang out a little bit.
62:54But let everyone know where they can find you in the, and again, talk about the show that you're doing this year.
63:00Cause it's a really cool concept. So Scott Turner and I are teaming up for a show on YouTube.
63:06It comes out every Wednesday on YouTube, totally free on the fantasy football today.
63:10Channel is called reality versus fantasy and Scott Turner's.
63:12I let's put it nicely. He's decided to take a year off of coaching.
63:16And so he wants to learn a little bit more about fantasy football.
63:20And he obviously has amazing insight into the game of football, literally grew up in it.
63:25And he and I go through the big topics every week that fancy managers are thinking about, and he's answering the questions
63:31that I don't know the answer to. And so I'm learning from Scott.
63:34And at the same time, everybody else is learning from Scott.
63:38We talked about neighbors this week. We talked about a booka this week.
63:41We talked about the Panthers offense, the Eagles offense, the dolphins running backs.
63:45He actually had a different take on the dolphins running backs than what we have JJ.
63:49So it's, it's very interesting. And we're answering fan questions every single week too.
63:53All you got to do is go on YouTube, search for reality versus fantasy.
63:57We do it every week, every Wednesday, look for it, watch it, learn from it.
64:02Awesome. That's awesome. Make sure you guys check it out late round.com, subscribe to the YouTube channel, subscribe to the podcast.
64:08Otherwise everyone, good luck in week four, and thanks for tuning in.
64:11This is an iHeart podcast, guaranteed human.
