Doubs' trade value is falling after a tough Week 1 performance with a drop and a 42.5 offensive grade from PFF. However, there is a glass-half-full angle: A.J. Brown's four-week IR stint will allow Doubs to get more reps with Drake Maye. After Brown exited in the third quarter, Doubs never left the field with a route rate of 84.6%, target share of 15.0%, and air yard share of 40.4%. He was second in targets and first in air yards, and Maye looked his way under duress. But a receiving aDOT of 22.3 air yards is a red flag that should change as the offense adjusts without its intended WR1. The Patriots' schedule is tough for the next few weeks, but Doubs will have a favorable run (Raiders, Jets, Bears, Dolphins, revenge game vs. Packers) after he syncs with Maye.

With A.J. Brown sidelined by high ankle sprain, Romeo Doubs is vaulted into the No. 1 receiver role for the Patriots by necessity during Brown's injury absence. However, Patriots insider Phil Perry expressed significant concern about Doubs' ability to fill that role, noting he has a very different personality from elite receivers like Stefon Diggs and A.J. Brown. Perry characterized Doubs as 'the anti-receiver in terms of his personality,' lacking the typical bravado, confidence, and competitive dog that elite receivers possess. Perry stated: 'I'm not saying [Doubs is] a bad player or that he'll be bad moving forward. It's just, it's hard for me to envision him now, 'OK, I need to ratchet things up and I need to take my game to another level and I'm going to show these guys just how freaking competitive I am.' He's just, that personality is it's just a different one.' Perry concluded he is concerned Doubs won't be able to fill in and be the guy the Patriots need him to be.
