Giddens recorded six carries for 43 yards on Sunday, but the source attributes this limited workload to the Colts being blown out rather than a change in backfield hierarchy, suggesting his role is not a concern.

The Colts' second-year running back lost a training-camp battle to seventh-round rookie Seth McGowan to be Jonathan Taylor's primary backup.

PositiveSleeperNov 3, 2026Fantasy Life Articles

Second-year running back DJ Giddens is a sneaky add in deep leagues (0% rostered at Yahoo) after seeing the field for the first time in Week 8; he split 11 carries with rookie Seth McGowan behind Jonathan Taylor in Indianapolis's blowout loss to Jacksonville. The fifth-round pick from 2025 is a big-bodied back at 6-foot and 212 pounds who could mix in for goal-line work. Giddens out-carried McGowan six to five and split short-down-and-distance carries with Taylor, suggesting the handcuff torch may not have been passed to the rookie; if Taylor is traded, Giddens could see a meaningful role rather than McGowan taking over entirely.

PositiveRoleNov 3, 2026RotoWire NFL Articles

Giddens took six carries for 43 yards in garbage time, a solid showing that slightly increases the odds he would have a meaningful role behind Seth McGowan in the event of a Jonathan Taylor trade.

Year 2 back who got his opportunity against Jacksonville. Athletically gifted Kansas State back with strong speed score and 40-time; was intriguing at the NFL combine level. Has done literally nothing as a pro. Got 6 carries for 43 yards against Jacksonville in a 42–7 game and did look explosive. In deeper formats, worth a dart throw to chase touches, but McGawan is the preferred option given he's been running ahead of Giddens all year.

NegativeRoleNov 2, 2026Stampede Blue

At age 26, Giddens is still young and has shown occasional flashes, but Goncalves hasn't seen enough to consider him an important part of Indianapolis' long-term running back plans. With McGowan demonstrating more encouraging potential and additional talent likely to become available through future drafts, Goncalves would be comfortable moving on from Giddens before his rookie contract expires after 2028.

NegativeProjectionNov 2, 2026Yahoo Fantasy Football

Giddens locked up with a 6 carries for 43 yards and no touchdowns in Week 8 against Jacksonville as the Colts were never competitive and eventually opened auditions for their next starting back.

NegativeRoleNov 1, 2026Yahoo Sports NFL

Giddens is the only other back on the Colts roster besides McGowan and Jonathan Taylor. He got some garbage-time runs in Week 8, finishing with 31 yards on four carries. If Taylor is traded, Giddens isn't a bad add as a backup option, though McGowan would likely be the primary beneficiary.
