Insight page

Blake Corum

PositiveValue22:16

Highlighted as a backup running back to target in dynasty rebuilds because he has the potential to become a starter and significantly increase in value.

Drafted as a starting quarterback in a dynasty best ball startup.

Insight page

Chase Brown

PositiveValue25:14

Carl Blazes suggests that Chase Brown is a preferred asset in dynasty best ball formats compared to the 1.01 rookie pick because he provides similar projected points for the current season while allowing managers to retain additional draft capital.

NegativeDepth Chart6:56

Drafted as a depth piece in a dynasty best ball startup tight end room.

Insight page

Chris Olave

NegativeValue55:27

Chris Olave was a third-round startup pick that contributed to the team's poor early-roster value.

Insight page

D.J. Moore

NegativeValue7:06

Categorized as a solid wide receiver two or three in a dynasty best ball startup build.

Insight page

Eli Raridon

NegativeValue15:03

Drafted as a tight end in a dynasty best ball startup.

Insight page

Eli Stowers

NegativeBust23:01

Carl Blazes cites Eli Stowers as an example of a player who, if acquired in a poor rebuilding draft, leaves managers feeling dissatisfied with their team's outlook compared to previous years.

Insight page
NegativeValue50:57

Eli Stowers was drafted as a rookie and is currently held as a piece that might be packaged with other assets to re-roll into future draft capital.

Insight page

Emeka Egbuka

Insight page

Jameson Williams

NegativeValue14:06

Drafted as a wide receiver in a dynasty best ball startup.

Insight page

Jaylen Warren

NegativeValue29:43

Carl Blazes suggests using Jalen Warren as part of a package deal to trade up for elite injured assets like Malik Nabers in dynasty best ball formats.

Insight page

Jeremiyah Love

NegativeValue25:07

Carl Blazes argues that in dynasty best ball leagues, the 1.01 rookie pick (Jeremiah Love) lacks the trade liquidity found in lineup leagues because managers prefer keeping depth assets like Chase Brown plus future picks over consolidating value into a single premium rookie asset.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

PositiveValue5:53

Targeted early in a dynasty best ball startup as part of a heavy running back and quarterback build strategy.

Insight page
NegativeValue31:15

Carl Blazes cites Joe Burrow's situation last season as an example of an injured asset that can be acquired during a rebuild and subsequently flipped for increased value once the player returns to health.

Insight page
NegativeValue31:15

Carl Blazes highlights Joe Burrow as an example of an injured, high-value asset that can be acquired and subsequently flipped for even greater value in dynasty best ball.

Insight page

Insight page

Josh Downs

NegativeValue7:06

Insight page

Kenneth Walker III

NegativeUsage35:27

Mentioned in the context of splitting time with Zach Charbonnet, which provided a window to acquire value.

Insight page

Kenyon Sadiq

NegativeBust23:01

Insight page

Kyren Williams

NegativeValue14:05

Drafted as a wide receiver in a dynasty best ball startup.

Insight page

Makai Lemon

NegativeValue51:01

Makai Lemon was the player passed over in a trade-up move to acquire Tyson.

Insight page

Malik Nabers

PositiveValue29:27

Carl Blazes suggests that acquiring an injured Malik Nabers in dynasty best ball is a strategic move for rebuilders; he argues that packaging multiple mid-tier assets like Tee Higgins, Juwan Johnson, and Jalen Warren can successfully secure a stud like Nabers.

Insight page
PositiveValue31:08

Carl Blazes suggests targeting Malik Nabers as a young, high-upside asset during a rebuild; even if he is injured, his potential to project as a WR1 allows for a future 'tear down' trade to acquire multiple first-round picks and additional players once he is healthy and producing.

Insight page
PositiveValue68:15

Carl Blazes acquired Malik Nabers and a 2027 first-round pick by trading away Kenneth Walker, Sam Darnold, Ricky Pearsall, and Jerry Jeudy, a move he considers favorable despite the depth lost.

Insight page

Mark Andrews

NegativeValue15:02

Drafted as a tight end in a dynasty best ball startup.

Insight page

Marvin Harrison Jr.

NegativeProjection48:52

Marvin Harrison Jr. has failed to live up to expectations as a cornerstone wide receiver, contributing to the team's struggle to contend.

Insight page

Mike Evans

NegativeValue72:39

Carl Blazes discusses holding Mike Evans during a rebuild as a 'gamble' to either package him for younger assets or sell him for future picks, specifically considering a trade for younger players like Rashid Shaheed or Trey Harris.

Insight page

Mike Washington Jr.

NegativeUsage60:12

Mike Washington is a backup running back drafted by the team as part of a heavy investment in the position.

Insight page

Patrick Mahomes

NegativeValue13:34

Drafted as a starting quarterback in a dynasty best ball startup.

Insight page

Tank Dell

NegativeValue50:07

Tank Dell was sold off while his hype was high to acquire multiple second-round picks, which were then used to acquire other assets.

Insight page

Tee Higgins

NegativeValue29:34

Carl Blazes suggests using Tee Higgins as part of a package deal to trade up for elite injured assets like Malik Nabers in dynasty best ball formats.

Insight page

Terry McLaurin

NegativeValue7:06

Categorized as a solid wide receiver two or three in a dynasty best ball startup build.

Insight page

Trey McBride

PositiveValue5:57

Targeted in the second round of a dynasty best ball startup to secure an elite tight end, allowing the drafter to ignore the position later. Despite concerns about potential quarterback changes in Arizona, he is viewed as a hold or a potential in-season trade candidate if his value remains stable.

Insight page

Tucker Kraft

PositiveValue67:48

Carl Blazes acquired Tucker Kraft while he was injured by consolidating four assets (Dallas Goedert, Marcus Mariota, a 2026 second, and a 2026 third), viewing the move as a significant win.

Insight page

Ty Simpson

NegativeBust23:01

Ty Simpson is mentioned by Carl Blazes as part of a group of players that, if they represent the core of a rebuilding draft, result in a 'crappy' feeling for the manager due to a lack of trade value.

Insight page

Tyler Warren

PositiveValue18:44

Identified as an undervalued tight end who could be a target for contenders looking to trade down from more expensive assets.

Insight page

Zach Charbonnet

PositiveValue12:31

The drafter is consciously targeting Charbonnet in dynasty drafts, viewing him as incredibly cheap and a strong value play.

Insight page
PositiveValue22:16

Carl Blazes highlights Zach Charbonnet as an example of a player to target during a dynasty best ball rebuild, noting that even when splitting time with Kenneth Walker III, such players offer opportunities to flip value.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

NegativeValue7:06

Categorized as a solid wide receiver two or three in a dynasty best ball startup build.

1:58We're going to do a quick hit as always first here before we jump into the dynasty best ball roster construction for rebuilding.
2:06Are you ready? Yeah, let's do it. All right.
2:08We're just going to talk a little bit about all the future first best ball dino leagues that we had going on the debrief from them all.
2:17We had four total leagues. Shout out to all the participants.
2:20There was a bunch of them from the OTC discord.
2:23We had a bunch of guys come over from the DD fantasy community.
2:27We pulled in some a couple people from Reddit.
2:30We had some guys come over from the fantasy footballers.
2:33Shout out to all y'all who participated in the leagues.
2:36Thank you for filling them out. I hope you guys had fun.
2:40Let us know if you guys liked it and drop a comment below.
2:44If you're listening, we had two snake leagues, Cobra and Viper.
2:47I was in the Cobra. You were in the Viper.
2:50And then we had two auction leagues, the proxy auction leagues over on the dynasty helper.
2:55Those were going once and going twice. I've been both of those.
2:59You're in the going twice here. What are your thoughts on your teams coming out of them?
3:04What kind of builds did you chase here? Yeah.
3:07I mean, pardon me. I'm going to be looking a little off screen because, you know, sleeper, if you're out there listening,
3:14please allow us to look at best ball teams on the web.
3:17So I can't see my team, but in both of them, I did kind of go for a, a, a, like a win.
3:25Now, I think I sold my 27 picks in both leagues.
3:28So we're definitely in there. The future, the Viper one, the snake just finished.
3:32I had a pretty good team. I wanted to kind of really try, you know, I didn't want to shoehorn it, but
3:39if it worked, I wanted to try what we talked with Scott regarding, you know, heavy running back, heavy quarterback, kind of
3:46just, you know, pancake a bunch of wide receivers kind of in those later rounds.
3:50And so that's kind of what I did. I went HN Burrow early.
3:54I traded up into the second to get two second round picks and pick Trey McBride because I knew if I was
4:01in the league tight end kind of to the wayside, I did want to have like one of those elite guys and
4:08just kind of not have to really worry about the position much saying that, Trey McBride can do his thing.
4:14So, and apart from that, you know, Chigga, Kwanko in the tight end room, Njoku.
4:19And then it's just a bunch of kind of middling wide receivers or guys that you'd put in that solid wide receiver
4:26two to three with Zay Flowers, Terry McLaurin, Josh Downs, DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, those sorts of players.
4:31So I really wanted to try that strategy. I think I only sold my first and maybe I think I sold my second.
4:38So I still have a little bit of ammo.
4:41So I figured the third and the fourth could come in if I needed another quarterback behind Joe Burrow and Cam Ward.
4:48So I'm in there to win. I think I have a pretty decent team, a couple other guys.
4:53There was another team that definitely went the same way.
4:57They have some stronger running backs with a little bit more youth like Hampton and Gentry, I believe.
5:02And I think the third running back is also pretty good.
5:05But there are other situations like other rooms. They definitely invested mostly into the running back room, but it looked like they
5:12were trying a very similar strategy in terms of how the trade went.
5:16It was a lot of the same. A lot of people looking to trade back.
5:21Not a lot of people trying to trade up.
5:24So, you know, Zig and Zach, I decided, OK, let me move up.
5:28It was fairly decent value. So, you know, overall, I was pretty happy with the result.
5:33I like this different type of build. It's a different type of way to try to contend.
5:38And I think I have a pretty decent team for for this first year.
5:42I don't feel super old either in terms of like my main asset.
5:46So I don't think that it can fall off so quickly.
5:50But yeah, it's going to be interesting. I mean, most of these guys I've never played with except one who's in Toe Clan with with us.
5:58And then Ziggy, who's also in the Toe Clan, I believe.
6:01Right. Yeah, is in that one. So, yeah. But besides that, all these guys were new.
6:06They were all good guys. Fun to talk to.
6:09You know, interesting. Some of them had, you know, pretty in not interesting, but like fun trade discussions with they.
6:15They were willing to share information and kind of, you know, go back and forth.
6:20So it was all good fun. It's what the second or third startup I've done all off season.
6:25So, you know, it's always it's always fun to draft.
6:28Yeah. Shout out to Sean T 33, who is from Scotland.
6:32He was battling the overnight pause and, you know, he did really well keeping up with with all the clocks and everything and drafted a pretty banger team.
6:40He was the one that had that Elmere and Hampton that you were talking about.
6:45And a lot of youth, a strong quarterback room, strong running back room, kind of split on the wide receiver room.
6:51We were talking about how he might have punted it a little bit too far there, but a strong team.
6:57Nonetheless, he can kind of go forward and, you know, build build around that.
7:02I think he's still got all his picks, too.
7:05So over in the other league, the Cobra League, that was one that that I went in.
7:10And you know what, man, if I'm being completely honest, like I had other drafts going on when this league started.
7:16And I was I even tried to like punt it and be like, hey, is there anybody else who wants to join?
7:23Like, I'll be the 12th man if you guys need me.
7:26And they needed me. So I jumped in and I kind of just drafted for value.
7:31I wasn't really looking to move around too much.
7:34At least that's how it started. And I was like, I'm just going to take the value pick on the board.
7:41I'm going to stick and pick every single time.
7:43And I kept my first, my future first next year.
7:47I ended up trading in a way my second, which I used to go get Zach Charbonnet.
7:52I traded that pick away to go get Zach Charbonnet.
7:55I'm trying to, trying to consciously draft more Zach Charbonnet right now because I've, I'm so in on that situation.
8:01He, he feels incredibly cheap right now, especially if I'm fading Jadarian price.
8:05I'm just going to lean in to that kind of thought process here.
8:09So the, the first two rounds I went quarterback, it went Jaden Daniels.
8:13Then I went Patrick Mahomes. Um, and then I think even in the fourth round, I ended up, I took four quarterbacks
8:20in this league, like four starting quarterbacks, Jaden Daniels, Patrick Mahomes, Cam Ward, Bryce Young.
8:24So obviously with that strong of a quarterback room, I had to kind of piece it together and other places.
8:31So my running back room is not super strong, but it's coherent.
8:34I have Kyron Williams, David Montgomery, Jonathan Brooks, Ja'Cory Krosky-Meritt, Zach Charbonnet, and, um, some backup guys that I can, you know,
8:41maybe get a start or two out of them.
8:44Then my wide receiver room, I went Luther Burden, Jamison Williams, Terry McLaurin.
8:48And then it's pretty much all, you know, dart throws hoping to get one or two week starts out of them.
8:54Oh, that's right. Sorry. My very first pick was Trey McBride.
8:58That's what it was. I went Trey McBride at the, I think I drafted from the one 10, but I have a strong tight end room.
9:06Trey McBride, Mark Andrews, Eli Raritan, David Njoku, and, um, just a couple of dart throw guys.
9:11So, and I, I know we're the quick kit and we're trying to kind of go through these, but, um, I think
9:18it's something we didn't really talk about the hall of fame game.
9:22There wasn't a ton, but I have heard a lot of kind of hype for, for Beck coming out of that and
9:28how big, uh, percent might not even finish the year.
9:31Maybe who knows how much they, he even plays.
9:34Um, how do you feel about that? Cause it made me a little bit like, like, I'm not that excited for McBride.
9:41If that's the case, how do you, how do you feel about it?
9:45Since you kind of have him in, in the same exact format.
9:49Yeah. You know, like when you're drafting McBride, this was purely.
9:52Leaning into the format build here, right? Tight ends are scoring 1.75 in these leagues that we're, we're doing.
9:58So getting him at the, the one 10 felt like pretty good value for me.
10:03Even if Trey McBride doesn't hit this year, I think he's going to do enough to hold his value.
10:08You know, throughout the year, he'll, he'll still probably, he might slip a tight end spot down one, maybe two, but he's
10:15not going to fall much further than that. And I think people are still going to have this record breaking 2025 season
10:22that we had in the back of their minds of what he can do.
10:26But yeah, I mean, Carson Beck, he looked decent.
10:29He looked, he looked like a rookie, right? I mean, he, he didn't have a ton of touch on the ball, but
10:36he made the right throws and the right reads granted against, you know, probably subpar defenses and whatnot.
10:41But I don't know, like maybe, maybe they get it together.
10:45I'm not, I'm not super high on that pick at all or Carson Beck coming in.
10:50But if we can get Jacoby percent for going into the season and maybe get up to a hot start, maybe it
10:57gives me an avenue and a window to, to trade Trey McBride in season.
11:01People all of a sudden like, Oh yeah, Trey McBride is really good.
11:05It wasn't just an outlier season. Uh, and maybe the open the window opens.
11:09Yeah. A hundred percent. That's kind of how it made me feel.
11:13Definitely made me a little bit less, um, secure wherever I have Trey McBride to feel, especially as a contender that may,
11:20you know, maybe it's a, it's a move to go trade down, not super far, but if a Tyler Warren, for example,
11:26is a guy that is, you know, even undervalued by, you know, a second, a couple seconds or, you know, whatever your
11:33week, an extra running back and extra wide receiver.
11:36I think I'd tear that down right there, especially if I, if I'm a contender.
11:41So, um, yeah, I just wanted to kind of quickly get your thoughts on that, but, uh, no, good, good, good, good shout out there.
11:48Yeah. And then in this league, there's some really good, strong contenders.
11:52This guy, Kay Ryan sold his picks from the next two years.
11:56He's in the league with us for the auction league.
11:59He seems like a really strong player and he sells out, but you can tell he, he does it properly.
12:05He he's drafting youth. He's drafting into, you know, a decent window.
12:09Um, Ziggy built a pretty strong team in this league as well.
12:12And we're not going to dive into our auction league teams here, but I just want to get your thoughts on the format in general, because.
12:20You were a little, you know, standoffish on the format when we go into the first one, but then I, I went
12:27into it and I kind of, you know, got my feet wet and then I came back.
12:33I was like, dude, this is a ton of fun.
12:36Like you got to check this out. So give me your thoughts here.
12:40Um, how do you feel about the format and in general?
12:43And, and did you like it? Yeah. I mean, it's, it has been cool.
12:47It's been like different. I think what I said in the chat when we were talking about, it was like, how does my team end up?
12:55And it's ended up pretty decent. I think so.
12:58Like it is fun. And obviously it's not just results based, but it is cool.
13:03It's just a different way to draft. So it makes it a little bit more fun.
13:08I think it does obviously open up several more avenues.
13:11Like, like the way that, um, a snake draft works inherently, you just kind of have to do with what's going on.
13:18Even if you trade up, right? Like you're still having to give up assets to do that.
13:23So you can kind of build the team coming into like, what is it?
13:27We have 27 spots total, right? With the bench where, you know, once you get into like round 15, 16 in a
13:34snake, you're talking about guys that, barely matter. And then after that, you're talking about some complete, you know, bench fodder guys
13:41in a snake in this format, if you build it right, you know, your 20th player could still be a decently relevant player, right?
13:48Like you can try to realistically win the league with a thousand cuts, right?
13:52Like I don't really have any premier players. You have a ton of premier players.
13:57We're both probably going to end up being contenders and just different builds, but I think it does open up a lot more avenues.
14:04So that's fun. Um, yeah, I mean, you, you, you, you sold me, um, you know, up the river without a paddle somewhat.
14:12Cause you're like, Oh yeah, you just got to check it twice.
14:15And it's like at the beginning. Yeah. Because the noms were, you know, resetting, but like, especially now we're towards the end where so many things change.
14:24And like you get bit up on one player.
14:26Now you kind of have to not drastically change, but like, okay, now what am I doing?
14:32Like, am I flipping to two, these two other guys, that guy's bid is about to end in 30 minutes.
14:38Like you can't be checking it just twice a day.
14:41So I've definitely been way more on my phone, which has happened.
14:45And like the greatest thing as we talked with Carl and his episode about it, but I mean, I know he was in the other snake.
14:53I, he would, I think be kill it. Cause he has a very strong mind for stuff.
14:58He would come up with a great plan. Um, if you know, he was able to get on his phone enough, I
15:05know with all he's got to go down. But apart from that, yeah, I mean, it was, it was a little bit
15:11less like, eh, like, I don't know if I want to do this.
15:15And then, yeah, you, you said it was a lot of fun and it has been, to be honest, it has been,
15:22if you can get yourself on it. Um, it's definitely a different way.
15:26And it's just, uh, something new to experience in fantasy.
15:29Yeah, for sure. Like I'm, I'm all in on this format.
15:33I think it's a ton of fun. I'm excited to kind of set it aside as the season goes on or starts and goes on.
15:40And then maybe we can kind of revisit it in the, you know, the off season of the 2026 season.
15:47I'm sorry, it's 2027 season. And we can kind of bring this back up and, you know, digest some of our thoughts
15:53on it and get it out there. Cause hopefully this, you know, becomes a, a premier format or at least a much
16:00more, you know, front front stage headlining kind of format where people are getting into it.
16:05Cause it is a ton of fun guys. So if you're interested in jumping in and learning one of these things, hit us up.
16:13We'll, um, we'll let you know, we'll get you on a list and we'll, we'll open up some more of these and get them going forward.
16:21They are a ton of fun. And yeah, honestly, like if you like the idea of, you know, gaming and getting the
16:27strategy and finding your edge through strategy and stuff like that, then this is a perfect format for you because there is
16:34a ton, a ton of strategy going into it.
16:37It's like a 12 person tug of war where you're all fighting for the same guys.
16:42And when one guy falls, then you go take that money that you had allocated to them and you're moving it to another person.
16:49And then that person takes their money and allocates it elsewhere.
16:53And it's just, it's chaos. It's chaos, but it's, it's enjoyable chaos.
16:56It's a ton of fun. So if it's interesting to you, hit us up.
17:01Um, thank you again, everyone for all y'all who have been playing in it.
17:05Um, I don't want to call out any names cause I'm sure I'm going to forget somebody and upset someone, but you know who you guys are.
17:13And, um, thank you all for, for making those leagues as, as fun as they are.
17:18And we're looking forward to going into the season with all y'all.
17:22So anything else here before we jump into a break from the podfather?
17:26No, that's always, yeah. Thanks for everybody that took part in it.
17:30We really appreciate it. All right. Let's take a quick break here to hear about the dynasty deluxe from the podfather.
17:36And then we'll catch you guys on the other side where we talk about the dynasty best ball art of the rebuild.
17:43If you play in dynasty, you need dynasty deluxe, our premium package for dynasty leaguers.
17:48We rank over 300 players updated every week, all year long.
17:51And there's a win now mode and a rebuild mode with super flex and tight end premium controls and a dynasty league
17:58sync where you can say, sync down all of my sleeper teams, all my FFPC teams.
18:03And then you can browse around your leagues for who has needs.
18:06And then you can use our trade finder to see what kinds of trades are happening in leagues that are similar to the one I want to do.
18:15Then you can analyze trades using our trade analyzer, which balances the lifetime value, which includes pick values out to like 2028.
18:22All of that. Plus the rookie guide, $25 value is included.
18:25So if you're just in one dynasty league, dynasty deluxe is well worth it and use your hosts promo code and you
18:32can bump up to all in and get $25 off.
18:35All right. Welcome back. Let's get into it. First is first.
18:38We're going to go over the fundamentals of the rebuilding for a dynasty roster.
18:43Cause we, we focused a lot in this series about what it takes to, to contend in a dynasty roster.
18:49And we kind of tangentially talked about rebuilding while doing so, but I wanted to like lay out these fundamentals, which I
18:56think are kind of like the building blocks of most rebuilds, but in dynasty, best ball dynasty.
19:01There's just a, there's different ways to approach these fundamentals.
19:04And the first one I want to cover here is just value first, which is again, I think this rings true for any dynasty lineup or best ball.
19:13Protect the value, mine, the value, the goal is to accrue it any way you can.
19:18And in best ball, you can do this in many, many ways because the player pool of relevant assets is just so much bigger.
19:25And so people who are contending, who are valuing depth, it just enables you to, to move players that you wouldn't necessarily be able to move.
19:33So you can gain value from a guy who's getting three targets a game because, you know, sometimes he's got a touchdown
19:40and he's going off for, for, for 25 yards and he's scoring 10 points.
19:44And that might actually, you know, fill a flex spot here or that could be a wide receiver who got promoted into
19:51a role because the wide receivers in front of them got hurt.
19:55Like you're finding different ways to kind of mine this here.
19:58So what are your thoughts on this value first rebuild and how are you approaching it going into your, your best ball dynasty rebuilds?
20:05Yeah. I mean, I think when you're rebuilding, you need to be focusing for the future and obviously you need to start stacking picks, stacking the value there.
20:14But I think in this particular format, it's not just about like, Hey, there's almost zeros across my team, maybe besides like one or two young guys.
20:22And then I have all the picks. I have five, like five picks when you're in a start 11 start, you know,
20:29sort of league and you need best ball. Like sure.
20:32Those five picks could all hit, but then you're not really even close to contending, right?
20:37And in a lineup league, you do that and you know, you pretty much have half a roster and you're set to go.
20:44I think that value isn't just in the picks, right?
20:47You have to have some of these players that are sneaky, like not scoring a ton of value points, but can become very, very important later.
20:55So you can flip that value, right? Like if, if you're able to get a Blake Corum, a common guy, those sorts of backup running backs, right?
21:04And then they become starters. Now, all of a sudden there's a chance for you to really increase value, right?
21:10So you have to really be mining for those.
21:13I think in trades is one of the easiest ways.
21:16Like, you know, maybe you lose a little bit of value on the front end, but on the back end that, you
21:23know, you, you're very confident on a player on a Blake Corum, a common guy, a Zach Charbonnet, maybe when he was
21:29splitting time with Kenneth Walker, the third, that sort of thing where you can take a shot and really then flip the value on its head.
21:37I think when you're doing a dynasty, a best ball rebuild, I don't know if maybe you feel this way.
21:44I feel like you have to be a little bit riskier because you can't, it's, you can't just burn it all down to the ground.
21:51Like you do in a lineup league. It's too far to come back.
21:55It's too hard to get. If we're talking about, you need four to five running backs.
22:00You need seven wide receivers. You need three quarterbacks.
22:03You need, you know, at least three tight ends.
22:06If you don't have an elite one, you're talking about, you need like 15, 16, 18 players, right?
22:11Deep and maybe even more. It's just no way.
22:14If you go down to zero that through picks, you're going to do that because you're never going to get a whole
22:21drafts worth, you know, unless your name's Keegan, you know, you're just never going to do that in most leagues.
22:27So you're going to get maybe four to five.
22:30And then there's other people rebuilding, right? So it's like a finite resource.
22:34And then you can have a draft like this one.
22:37Like this was a horrendous rebuilding draft. I sold a book.
22:40We're going to get into it, but for picks in this draft and in the future.
22:45And it was just, even I knew I was trading for a rebuilder, a contenders picks.
22:50It was just a really, really bad contenders, a rebuilders draft.
22:54Like you, if you didn't have like one of those top five, six picks, you probably feel pretty crappy about your rebuild right now.
23:01You know, if you have ended up with Eli Stowers, Ty Simpson and Kenyan Sadiq or something, right?
23:07Like you weren't able to trade. There was nothing.
23:09Nobody was giving you a 27 pick. Nobody wanted those players.
23:13You know, your rebuild right now feels pretty crappy compared to like previous years where you, maybe you got a Cam Scadaboo
23:20in the back of the first or early second, you know, those sorts of things.
23:24So I think it's a little bit riskier. I don't know how you feel about that, but I think you have to
23:31take some more gambles when you're rebuilding in the dynasty best ball.
23:35Yeah, I can, I can feel that ringing, you know, with resonating in some sort of way here because it's the risk
23:41I think you're taking on is just, there's an uncomfortable feeling of the assets that you're acquiring or, and, and for the ones that you're sending away.
23:50But knowing that you're gaining value by getting multiple assets or kind of, you know, splitting an asset into multiple assets.
23:56Even if in a lineup league, you're like, man, there's no way I would send these assets ever, you know, like these
24:03three guys to go get this one guy. I'm keeping this one guy every single time, but in a best ball league, it's okay.
24:10You can do that because the goal is to have, you know, two times the number of starting spots.
24:16So it is like risky in that sense, I think is, is probably, it's just like flipping that, that lineup mode off
24:23in your head and, you know, going into the deep, dark place, which is best ball.
24:28And understanding that this is the right move, even though like it's uncomfortable, it's still the way to go.
24:34And another thing I wanted to bring up, which you were talking about was like keeping those values in those players and
24:41not just stacking them all in those firsts and burning it down to the ground and just having all those firsts.
24:47And the reason for that is, is because in a lineup league, when those first get on the clock, you can actually trade them for something of value.
24:56People are going to pay up and give you multiple assets to get that one premium asset.
25:01But in a dynasty best ball league, people aren't looking to tear up into those kinds of assets, giving up.
25:07Like, like if we're talking about the one-on-one this year, Jeremiah Love, no one's going to look at you and give you,
25:14you know, Chase Brown plus a 27 first to get a Jeremiah Love in this kind of draft.
25:20Because they're probably looking at him being like, Chase Brown is probably going to give me similar points as Jeremiah Love this year.
25:27He does, he's not going to hold that dynasty value through it, but then I still have this 27 first, which I
25:33could use in season to move to a rebuilder to go get myself two or three assets.
25:39So why would I give up, you know, what I could probably equate to three or four assets if I'm trying to
25:45contend to go get Jeremiah Love for dynasty value?
25:48Like those trades just don't really happen. So burning it down and just getting those picks, it doesn't work.
25:54You need that value stored in many ways, whether it's in these assets on your team or they could be high level assets.
26:01I think the right like place you want to be with these is like these rounds, you know, five to 10 in a startup drafts.
26:09So like the, you know, the top 60 to top 120 players, like right in there, that's a really good place to
26:16be because those are really valuable assets. Not only are they starters in a lineup league, but they're, they're cheap enough where
26:22people want them in a best ball league because they're starters in a lineup league, but they don't cost, you know, the
26:29same amount as like a round three asset or around four asset.
26:33So, um, so yeah, the, the building, the value in your rebuilding teams is important, but how you build it is especially important.
26:40Not burning it down to the ground, keeping the value in, in assets.
26:44And, and like we said, like you can get gross with it because they're gun, these, these assets are going to be
26:51movable in season when people are wanting points to kind of get to it.
26:55Any closing thoughts on the value first here, before we kind of talk about how to create that value.
27:01Do another, um, fundamental here for creating that value on a best ball rebuild.
27:05Yeah. I mean, I think when people hear rebuild, they kind of have like this one mind and dynasty.
27:11Um, I think the, the best way to think about it when you're in a dynasty best ball league is you never
27:18really want to be in a true rebuild. Obviously you don't want to be sitting in the middle, but you want to
27:25be almost like a year, a one or two year punt type of thing.
27:29Like a, like a year punt into a productive struggle sort of team.
27:33I don't really think a dynasty is best ball.
27:36You ever want to fully enter into a rebuild, um, like in the, in the natural sense, not even just burning it
27:43down, but like, you know, only keeping two or three assets.
27:46I think in, in dynasty best ball, if you have a starting roster worth of players that are decent enough, or maybe
27:53like eight to nine, if it's a real deep league, whatever.
27:56I think that's how many players you really want to keep.
28:00I understand that that's not going to get you the one-on-one and everybody covets a one-on-one, but like you said, it's that
28:06one-on-one sitting on your team is going to be very hard to then break up into two or three assets.
28:13Unless it becomes, um, you know, uh, B-Jean or a Gibbs.
28:16And even then, you know, those are, uh, like we're about to talk about, like, those are luxury items for people to
28:23have in these dynasty best ball leagues. Yeah. Think about it.
28:26Like if you're in a startup and you have the one-on-one or the one-on-two, no one wants to trade for that pick
28:33because they know what they have to trade to go get it.
28:37It's, it's, you know, similar in a best ball, uh, dynasty rebuild here where the, having that one-on-one is almost, you know,
28:43you're better off just making it and then trading that player in season when, when people will actually give you the value you want.
28:51But I like being like how you said, just like the productive struggle.
28:55Like that's kind of where I want to be in a rebuild is, is, is the more comfortable place to be.
29:01Okay. The next fundamental here is to create that value first is to tear up for value.
29:07So tearing up in best ball is a luxury and not many people are looking to do that.
29:12And as such, you usually get premium value on your multiple assets.
29:16If you're consolidating your assets into a single asset, you get better value than you would on those assets in, in a lineup league.
29:23And this is especially true if the consolidated asset is injured, right?
29:27So if you're trading for Malik neighbors in 2025 of, you know, week five of 2025, you could go give them, you
29:34know, probably like a, a T Higgins and, you know, like a Jawan Johnson.
29:38And, um, who was like a running back last year, like a Jalen Warren, right?
29:43You could package those three assets up and probably go get somewhere close to, uh, uh, a Malik neighbors.
29:49And like, if I were to say that trade, like in reference of like a lineup league, people would be like, no,
29:55there's no way I'm making that trade. I'm not trading Malik neighbors who is a stud away for that.
30:01But if people want to win in best ball, this is, these are the moves you have to make to kind of win.
30:08So when you're rebuilding, you want to leverage that.
30:11You want to go get those studs on your teams because they're still valuable to have on your team.
30:17They're still scoring tons of points, but if you can trade, you know, those three assets that don't normally equate for it and, and he's injured.
30:25So he's going to help you get that higher pick in this next year.
30:29Those are the type of moves that you're looking to do.
30:33And having that knowledge and that wisdom of, you know, like, Oh, I'm the one offering a tier down here.
30:39So I should be getting a premium on these assets, uh, having that at the forefront of the negotiations.
30:45And if people are in best ball and they, and they play, they know this, right?
30:50They they're, they're going to understand this and they're, they're going to swallow the, the value that they're losing, uh, because they,
30:56they know what these other assets mean to their team and competing this year.
31:01What are your thoughts on that, man? Yeah. And I mean, I think on top of that, right, if you're taking an
31:08injured asset, that's young, like a Malik neighbors or somebody in that like camps catapult, I guess another giant kind of similar situation.
31:15Um, or Joe burrow in season last year, I, even though he came back, um, you can always then flip and tear
31:21down again and tear down for something better, right?
31:24Like for those three pieces plus a little bit, but maybe now you tear down into two first and a player for Malik neighbors now, right?
31:32Like you're still in your rebuild. Malik neighbors is going to score a lot of points.
31:37Maybe he's not exactly what you need. You don't need a stud.
31:41Um, and somebody does, right. Somebody has extra picks, a contender has something that, you know, is not so useful for them.
31:48And Malik neighbors is now projecting to be a top, you know, right receiver one for the season.
31:53You could go and then flip and have a good value increase.
31:57That's kind of the only thing I would say is like, once you get that asset, uh, you know, once they're back
32:04healthy, that's when it's time to, you know, potentially look to increase your value by just splitting it again.
32:10Yeah. Yeah. A hundred percent. So tearing up for value, I think is just the, the fundamental inside of that value first.
32:16This is a, one of the key ways to create value, which is leveraging the format itself and you know, the strength
32:23of the format of, of building depth. So onto the next fundamental here, which we identified as, you know, in our best
32:30ball fundamental episode, we talked about how zeros are, there's a duality of zeros, right?
32:35You don't want these zeros on your team if you're contending, but you do want these zeros on your team.
32:41If you are rebuilding so that you can get the, that better draft pick, but not only that, like the zeros you're
32:48acquiring on your team fit well with a lineup roster.
32:51Like the, the, any RB on a 53 and any QB on a two deep are really popular strategies and lineup leagues,
32:57because as soon as those guys get promoted, they're either entering your lineup for a start or they are, you're able to trade them.
33:05But in, in this case, that zero on your, your bench is eating up a possibility for one of your bench spots to enter your lineup.
33:13So it's actively hurting you. So they're for contending best ball roster.
33:17They're extremely detrimental to your team, but on a rebuilding roster, they serve two purposes.
33:21They get you the zero that you, you, you want, you don't want the points in your roster and they have that bonus of when they get promoted.
33:30Now they're a tradable asset because now all of a sudden a contending team wants that, that person on their team.
33:36So you can trade them. Like we said, the pool for these guys is, uh, for the trading pool inside of a best ball league is much bigger.
33:45This is a good way to go about it.
33:48So rebuilding with these two strategies of any RB on a 53 and any QB too deep with the intention of trading them.
33:55As soon as one of them becomes relevant for a third or, you know, a usable player who is just injured this
34:02season, uh, whoever it may be like. It also pairs really well with consolidating assets.
34:06When you're trading three for ones and you're getting that injured Malik neighbors.
34:10Well, now you can go grab two backup running backs off the waivers or two backup QBs off the waivers.
34:16And you're reloading the assets on your roster that you can trade away later to again, consolidate, consolidate up, go grab those
34:23guys off waivers, consolidate up, grab guys off waivers.
34:26Cause these guys just don't want to be on teams and contending teams.
34:30So there's, there's more of them on waivers. Yeah.
34:33And I think a good way to do that, especially right now in the time of season that we are is paying attention to training camp, right?
34:41Like there's tons of things that don't get brought up, but a beat reporter will be, you know, talking about, for example, who's the quarterback to write.
34:49Is there a quarterback to competition? Uh, you know, just cause I'm plugged into the Cowboys as a cowboy fan is there a running back to right.
34:58I've been holding, um, what's it, what's the Malik Davis.
35:01He was the backup last year, but it's looking more and more like Jaden blue might be the actual backup to Javante.
35:08So in that sense, if that gets kind of confirmed and maybe the first game or the preseason games show me that
35:14I'm looking to church, churn Malik Davis, right? Sam how same thing with the Cowboys is currently battling Joe Milton for the backup.
35:22If I'm maybe holding both or I'm holding Sam how, and it kind of becomes clear that, you know, Joe Milton is
35:28dressing and Sam how is the emergency third string I'm dropping Sam how, right?
35:33Like he's not going to be the backup. And then I think also just taking into account, um, when you're weighing those different options, right?
35:40Like, um, is, is, even if it's Joe Milton, who has a backup quarterback is, do we think he's coming in and
35:47having any sort of real impact, right? Like, uh, you can maybe roster four or five of these backup quarterbacks and then
35:54kind of have all the lotto tickets. But if you're having to make decisions, like, you know, I would much rather be
36:01rostering Marcus Mariota than a Joe Milton, for example, right?
36:04Um, Joe Flacco, the eternal backup quarterback, obviously he's probably already on a roster somewhere, but you know, who knows, maybe somebody dropped him.
36:11Those are the type of things, right? Um, and, and then the backup quarterbacks to often hurt, um, players.
36:17I already mentioned Marcus Mariota. Um, but you know, uh, Justin Fields is a backup.
36:22I don't know if he was dropped, but he's the type of guy, maybe you get thrown into a deal as a,
36:28as a non contender that you're like, Hey, if something happens to, um, you know, uh, the homes or, and we've seen
36:35fields start before those sorts of things. Um, you know, I think that's pretty interesting.
36:40Um, and then Cooper rush, who's in the, who's a third string, but I mean, like between two of Michael Penix, I
36:47could see two of potentially running cut. So that would be like a third stringer that I might hold, but yeah, just, just being aware, right?
36:55Like who is, um, moving up these depth charts, who's doing things in camp, who are they playing with?
37:01Um, and then, yeah, like running backs, kind of the same thing, right?
37:05Like, is it, does the coaching staff, does it sound like there's a clear backup or is it just like, Hey, if
37:11this guy goes down, we're just committee or we're picking up some dude off the street, like, like what's actually happening, right?
37:18Like Denver's a great place where, Hey, I'm, I'm trying to take a shot.
37:22None of those guys are probably on waivers, but, um, in terms of trading, right?
37:27Like JK Dobbins, RJ, however, Jonah Coleman, and maybe even as like Bidet or Jaleel McLaughlin, like one of those guys behind
37:34the other, you know, top two could have some relevance is, you know, when JK Dobbins and Edward Lee goes down, right?
37:41Like we know it's going to be a committee.
37:43So there might be something to, to mind there.
37:46I'm just, you know, those are kind of the, the thoughts, um, that I have when we talk about this, like sort
37:53of, um, what are you calling it? Basics, right?
37:56Yeah. The fundamentals, right. Um, so it's not just any, any backup quarterback, right?
38:00Like obviously no, if they're the actual backup, actually, you know, running backs, the same thing.
38:05So that sort of thing. And, you know, that's something that's good Twitter, you know, not everybody loves it, but it is
38:12good for find those, um, reliable beat reporters, um, and, and follow them.
38:1632 beat writers, um, is a good account to follow that, you know, posts a lot of good stuff, uh, from training camp.
38:23So. Yeah. Zane, Zane, Zane design. I don't know if you've been following him either on, on X, but he's, he's an incredible follow.
38:30He's pretty much a one man, 32 beat beat writers.
38:33Uh, he, I don't know how he does. I think he uses AI to kind of aggregate and like search all of
38:40these podcasts and articles and then, you know, look for keywords.
38:44And then his entire Twitter feed is just all the good stuff that you're looking for.
38:49Um, great follow. If you, if you're not following him already, you should go check him out.
38:54Um, but that was a good segue into the next one here, which is stay grinding.
38:59Right. And I wanted to bring up to, you were talking about like running backs and quarterbacks, but.
39:04I think also, you know, in this off season and training camp, it's also worthwhile looking at these wide receivers, right?
39:11Because I think we all have an expectation of what these wide receiver, you know, depth charts look like, but there are
39:18some teams out there where you don't know who the wide receiver three is, or someone showing out that beats out another person.
39:25And who we all expected was the wide receiver three.
39:28And in lineup leagues, wide receiver threes on teams don't really matter a lot of times, but in best ball, if they're
39:35getting snaps and they're earning targets, then, then they do matter.
39:38Right. And Olomita Zaccheaus on the bears last year, he matter.
39:41Right. I mean, like he, there were, there were guys just like this.
39:45There was also a guy on the bucks last year.
39:48I forget who it was, but it hurts or no, he's the rookie this year.
39:53Um, there was a, no, not McMillan. There was a guy even behind them, but he was, he was relevant last year.
40:00He was getting tons of targets. I mean, he had like a, at one point, like a 2.17 target per route run over, over a couple of weeks.
40:08Like those are the things you want to look at.
40:12And right now you can capitalize on, you know, paying attention to these beat writers, knowing who's beating someone out for a
40:18wide receiver two or wide receiver three. Darius Slayton is the wide receiver two for the New York giants right now.
40:25And I'm pretty sure he's available on some of your waiver wires out there, or he's at least at the very least an afterthought and startups.
40:33You could grab him incredibly late for a very, very minimal, um, investment.
40:37And he's, he's, he's probably going to crack your lineup.
40:40You know, very famously won the, sorry to bring this up Jose, but very famously won the championship match for Mando and
40:47tow clan one against Jose off the waivers. Was scoring what, like 17 points or something like that.
40:52Yeah, that wasn't against me, but I think it was year one against Rakim that that happened.
40:58But yeah, but yeah, I mean, Mando beat me last year.
41:01So, you know, he's, he's, he's been in there every year.
41:04So, but yeah, I mean, there is, and that's happened.
41:07And that's something we've talked about. For sure. I'm plugged in and churning this, not just at the beginning, not in the middle, these things change.
41:15And especially is important for teams that have been eliminated teams that have been eliminated or turn the tank.
41:21They're playing some of these third string guys are playing some of these backups, um, in week 17 of your championship in week 16.
41:29So even then it's important in waivers to, uh, to do so like, and, and to stay on top of this.
41:35Um, and yeah, that's a great battle. I mean, you got Darnell Mooney or Darius Slayton, but then who's, who's third does Darnell Mooney beat out Darius Slayton.
41:44Then that pushes Slayton to the third or, um, Calvin Austin, Juju Smith, Schuster, Jalen Hyatt.
41:49Like that's a great wide receiver room, right? We Odell Beckham, Malachi.
41:52I mean, they have like 42 wide receivers. Someone's going to end up being the wide receiver three.
41:58Right. Uh, so, um, those sort of, we talk about biggiest backfields, right?
42:02That's a super, um, you know, coined phrase. I think ambiguous wide receiver three should start being a thing, especially in dynasty, uh, best ball.
42:10For sure. 100%. Yeah. And I also wanted to say stay grinding, especially in season.
42:14Once we start having information on who is getting the routes and who is getting the targets.
42:20I think a lot of these guys end up getting overlooked too, because people have their priors.
42:25They have their roster set. They, you know, they've, they've decided all off season.
42:29This is, this is how I'm building. My roster.
42:32This is how I'm going in the first few weeks of the dynasty best ball season are incredibly important to just digest all that information.
42:40Who's getting the routes? Who's getting the targets? Are they available on waivers?
42:44Like this is a name that no, it's not a household name and not even a household name.
42:49This is not like a, uh, a community name, right?
42:52I mean, us as a community, we have a much larger, um, vocabulary for these names, I guess, you know, like we,
42:59the, the household names are doubled in our community.
43:02And if they don't pop up in our community, but they are popping up on the sheets, go grab them because I
43:09guarantee you, if they continue to get that role or someone gets injured in front of them and their role grows because
43:15of that, you're going to be able to package them in a deal to get a more secure player for the longterm.
43:22That's the, the consolidating up as we're talking about tear up for value, right?
43:27Grab these garbage players off of waivers and then turn them into a quarter.
43:31That's all you need. You need a quarter going into the next season.
43:35So you can use that quarter, uh, with three other quarters and go get yourself a dollar.
43:40Like repeat, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat. Keep, keep going.
43:43This is how you're building, um, value for, for your rebuild.
43:46And one of the best ways to do that, right.
43:49To get those quarters. Cause people are always like, nah, I don't want to do my 27 third aim for that.
43:56One thing that I've, I've learned is to rebuild a shoe for that second year.
44:00Much. So many more people are willing to be like, yeah, I'll throw you my third or in, in 28 instead, or
44:07I'll throw you a four here and a four there.
44:10Sure. Third, third and fourths are not, but like exactly as J.
44:14Mike is saying, right. Every little nickel and dime adds up to a quarter that adds up to a dollar.
44:20Right. Then that's, that's the way that you build these rosters.
44:24We're talking about for contenders that some of these people are important.
44:27Then when you're trying to get out of a rebuild, they're still just as important.
44:32You know, you're going to want them on your team or selling them off to somebody.
44:37So you can draft the next, you know, a Chris bell or new, you know, the next hype rookie that then you
44:44can turn and flip that into something else. Right.
44:46Like the, the name of the game was to, to stay in motion.
44:50Yeah. Yeah. 100%. Here's another thing that I, I like to do to create value.
44:55If for whatever reason, they, you know, there's two players in a very similar tier, but one player has a lot more
45:02hype or a lot more, you know, um, ADV, which is that, you know, the DD fantasy guys, what they call artificial dynasty value, right?
45:10Like the community is creating hype for this guy, which is creating value for this guy.
45:15And maybe there's another guy in that same tier who's not getting hype.
45:19Right. So like a good idea of this right now might be like a.
45:23Colson Loveland. Colson Loveland. Okay. Colson Loveland. I was, I was going to go Bucky Irving.
45:28Who's kind of the guy that's kind of falling.
45:31And then maybe the guy that's getting, you know, boosted up into that might be like a camp scatabot or something.
45:37Right. If someone's willing to go give you, you know, Bucky Irving plus a significant, a significant plus for your camp scatabot, like I'm okay.
45:45Like making that move. Right. Like I, I don't think Bucky is going to be nothing this season.
45:50I don't think he's going to be, you know, the same production level that we saw last year.
45:56But can I take Bucky then in season when, when points are getting scored and people are now like, okay, it's not
46:03as bad as we thought it is and move him to get me something that now with that plus I got for
46:09scatabot plus what I just moved Bucky for is now greater than scatabot.
46:13And I've split these assets, which is all what you're trying to do.
46:17You don't always have to tear up. If someone wants to pay you for a very similar tiered asset, I'm more than not.
46:25I'm making that, that trade in best ball. Like that's creating value for my team.
46:29Even if the market says that, oh, that's a bad deal.
46:33Right. Like it, I promise you guys, the, the more, the more you do those deals like that, the, the better off
46:39you're going to be, even if it feels gross or risky, like you're saying.
46:44Right. And, and kind of getting it, getting it done.
46:47Yeah. A hundred percent. All right. We're going to take a quick break here.
46:51And then on the other side of this, we're going to go over some of our dynasty best ball rebuilding rosters and
46:58kind of give you guys a insight on, you know, what they should look like and how you should be building them
47:05in a more, you know, concrete and exemplary way for, for you guys to kind of visualize here.
47:10So we'll take a quick break and we'll catch you guys on the other side.
47:15All right. Welcome back. Let's talk dynasty rosters. Why don't we go ahead and throw yours up here first, Jose, and we'll
47:22talk about your team in our league that we're in together, which is the lazy D, which stands for the lazy dynasty.
47:28This is kind of a unique league. We turn off waivers all year, except for four times a year.
47:34So we have quarterly waiver wire runs at week.
47:37Was it week five week nine? And then no, this doesn't sound right.
47:41Week four, week eight, week 12. And then once again, right before playoffs week 15, those are the only time that you can run waivers.
47:49So it kind of creates this fun dynamic where people are all active on waivers at the same time.
47:55And it creates really competitive bids for these players who have maybe been sitting out there for a while.
48:01And people, people have to plan better too, because they can't just go to the waivers and kind of replenish if they need it right away.
48:09Yeah. And as a rebuilder does make fab a little bit more interesting, right?
48:13You can, I think last year I traded, you know, half of my fab for a fourth or something like that, or,
48:20you know, it was somewhere in that neighborhood. But yeah, I mean, this team was one that, hey, you know, sometimes you
48:26do a draft and you just get horribly, you know, unlucky.
48:30I thought I was coming out of it pretty, pretty happy.
48:33I think we drafted this in 24, the off season, right before the 25 season.
48:38If I'm not mistaken, this is year three of the league.
48:41So if you could try to put your brain back there, I think I took Anthony Richardson at the end of the first round.
48:49I think I followed it up with Marvin Harrison Jr.
48:52I don't know if I need to say much more than that for you to understand how this team has gone.
48:58I think my second quarterback was Deshaun Watson, who was, you know, supposed to be a starter there.
49:04So, you know, just a comedy of just, you know, I don't think at the time necessarily bad picks, but that's how fantasy breaks.
49:11Sometimes Marvin Harrison Jr. has not lived up to what we all thought he was.
49:16He was supposed to be my cornerstone wide receiver.
49:19I went into the first season thinking I was going to be contending very quickly.
49:23That did not pan out. I got the one-on-one and this is where I learned the lesson of stripping your team completely
49:30in a dynasty best ball is just not the greatest idea.
49:33I didn't go bare bones, but I did go pretty, pretty light where now I'm coming to the end of the tunnel.
49:40I only have an extra 27 first next year.
49:43I don't have very many extra picks and I just don't think I'm going to have the juice next year.
49:49I've been trying to split an asset when Marvin Harrison Jr.
49:53still had hype. I was trying to split him.
49:55I've been trying to split Gentty. I've been trying to do multiple things.
49:59You know, some of the trades that I did make one, you know, that you were talking about was I did trade with you.
50:07And I, you know, sold off the hype on Tank Dell for a couple seconds, which turned into Cam Scadaboo and Jaden
50:13Higgins, I believe, which then kind of, you know, following the rock down the hill.
50:18That was a moment that it went up. But then I traded Scadaboo and Egbuka, who had gotten pretty good in that draft.
50:25What is now probably pretty cheap. I traded them for two firsts, a second and a common on guy.
50:31So I think Egbuka for two firsts is even though they're both late.
50:35The first last this rookie draft was the 111.
50:38I think for next year, if it's not the 110, 111, 112, I'd be pretty surprised.
50:43The guy's a pretty strong contender. So then again, even though the 27 class is a lot hyper, you know, a lot
50:50more hype around it and maybe I can trade that pick.
50:53I wasn't able to trade the picks that I had in this draft.
50:57So I took Eli Stowers with it. And then I think I took.
51:01I used a second with you to trade up to get Tyson instead of Makai Lemon in drafts.
51:07We swapped seconds and thirds. And then I have another 27 first next year to see what it ends up.
51:13But for right now, it's Eli Stowers, a 27 first.
51:16I don't know if that's even enough to get Egbuka, let alone Egbuka and Cam Scadaboo.
51:21So, you know, you're talking about a fairly lost like we're trying to talk about accruing value.
51:26I would say I did decent at the beginning.
51:29I traded, I think, Daniel Jones pretty high to get like a Baker Mayfield, who I feel like, you know, that was a decent win.
51:36So there's just been some wins and some losses.
51:39I think that's why I kind of feel like in Dynasty Best Bowl, you are kind of taking some more risks, right?
51:46Like the selling Scadaboo that he wasn't going to be the guy.
51:50He got injured. But now, you know, most people have him pretty high up, a pretty solid RB2.
51:55I think I could get, you know, maybe a first plus a little bit.
52:00Maybe somebody is looking for that. I don't you know what I'm saying?
52:04Like, I feel like there's definitely some value that was lost there.
52:07I don't feel horrible by my team in the future compared to some of the other Dynasty Best Bollies that were in, like the Toe Clan.
52:15Nobody's really accrued such a monster that it feels on, you know, a hill that you can't climb.
52:21But I mean, I think I don't even have enough starters right now.
52:25And I don't have that many picks coming up.
52:28So I'm kind of just in a situation now where I'm hoping guys like Jaden Higgins, Demon Claiborne, you know, Caleb Johnson
52:34was also a horrendous pick in that draft that I had.
52:38Unfortunately, that I picked a 201. I could have had lots of other players.
52:42But I'm just hoping some of these guys, especially the running backs, find homes that the Sean Watson maybe becomes a starter
52:49so that I can flip those into future capital.
52:52There's nobody that's a crazy rebuild besides maybe one guy that maybe has a three or four 27 firsts.
52:58So there's still plenty of them out there. So, you know, there is a chance.
53:02But like you've talked about, right, like tearing up into a gente now that his value has kind of come back up.
53:09Nobody's really trying to do that right. Like none of the contenders and none of the people that are kind of exiting rebuilds are very excited to come.
53:18You know, I think Gentry is easily three firsts or value rounding, you know, between two to three firsts.
53:24We have to still see it. But I mean, right now he's probably sitting at what the dynasty running back three or four.
53:31So I'm OK to hold that piece for as long, you know, as it is.
53:35I don't think I'm getting the 101 again as my rebuild comes out of it.
53:40And I'm OK with that. But I'm hoping that the 27 class is kind to me and gives me two starters the way that this class didn't.
53:48But yeah, man, that's kind of how I find myself.
53:51I don't know if you, you know, you wanted to do like a little live dissection here.
53:57What how do you think? Like what have you felt like those moves have been?
54:01How do you feel like this rebuild is going and or where did you want to take this with it?
54:07Yeah, I'll give you my thoughts on it. It was it was rough for you coming out of the startup.
54:14Like you said, I mean, we can we can probably flip over that and show it show how bad it actually was for you.
54:21Like if we want to revisit in time here, kind of retroactively.
54:25Let's see. You're drafting from the 110. Yeah, you went Anthony Richardson, Marvin Harrison, Chris Olave in the third round, Kyron Williams,
54:31Tank Dell in the fifth round, Rashad White in the sixth round.
54:35The first six rounds, if you look at today's dynasty value, you had not even 100 probably worth of value.
54:41So like it was, like you said, just a comedy of errors.
54:45And then another thing that I wanted to to bring up, which I feel like you touched on.
54:51Was the fact that you're I'm blanking on where I wanted to go with that.
54:55So I'm going to go a different direction. And having you have good assets here and I think that you can make some some good moves, right?
55:04Like I think Jackson Dart and Baker Mayfield are great.
55:07And like you said, like Deshaun Watson, if he gets starts to get somewhere, then maybe you can package him up and move on.
55:14And I like the idea in this league, especially with the wrinkle of, you know, the waivers moving up is as you
55:21make up these these tier up trades as you're doing it.
55:24You're asking for fab back from these guys, right?
55:27Because you know that you're going to have to be making these moves on waivers and waiver claims are not free in this league.
55:34You have to pay at least one dollar to get these waiver claims.
55:38So if you're going to have to replenish this roster and know that you're going to have to be competing against like
55:45minded managers all at the same time for these assets, like I think getting fab for this team is incredibly useful for you because.
55:53When people miss out on the waiver wires, they can't go get another player on waivers, right?
55:58They're going to have to trade for them if they need to miss or mid mid week in between waiver runs.
56:04So you'll have that ammunition by winning those waivers and then being able to trade for them and turn that fab into picks.
56:11Right. I think that's that's kind of the goal in this league here.
56:15Let me ask you something, because this is something I contemplated last season a lot.
56:20And it is one of the things where, hey, this is this is probably my biggest lesson learned for rebuilding in Dynasty basketball.
56:27So I think it's a great way to kind of go over it.
56:31But I had Dallas Goddard on my team. He was part of the trade where I packaged the Colts quarterbacks to get Baker.
56:38I got Dallas Goddard also thrown in there. And I mean, I had the tight end four of my team and I had him there all season.
56:47He was on the trade blog all season. One hundred and fifty five points that, you know, probably cost me at least a draft spot.
56:54How aggressive would you have been to trade? I did trade.
56:58I talked to every manager I sent offers. But like, would you have been so I don't know if desperate is the
57:04right word, but just needing to trade him into anything?
57:08Because like Dallas Goddard could go out here, get hurt.
57:11And then he's pretty much just a complete useless asset that I'm dropping maybe next season if he gets cut and doesn't receive.
57:18You know what I'm saying? So, like, would you you know, I started obviously high at a second.
57:23I think that's probably too much. But, you know, a contender maybe gets desperate and needs a tight end.
57:29I mean, he scored a lot of points and, you know, scored big in big moments.
57:34I mean, the first week of the championship, he scored twenty five.
57:38So, you know, it's not like he was a completely so obviously I started high, but then I went down the thirds.
57:45I think my biggest problem was not aiming for twenty eight capital.
57:48I think with how much hype there was in twenty seven.
57:52I think that's where that lesson learned of, hey, like someone's willing to give you for a, you know, a Dallas Goddard,
57:58a twenty eight third, a twenty a twenty eight second, maybe even.
58:02Right. I think that was maybe my biggest thing.
58:05But would you have taken what a loss in terms of what you thought his value was just to sell him to have something?
58:12Because at no point that really any contender come coming calling the way I would have it.
58:18You know, if this was Toclan and Goddard was out there on the team, I definitely and I had the resources.
58:24I definitely would have been calling, you know, trying to get a Dallas Goddard on my team.
58:29But nobody really did. So would you have just lowered the price to get anything like two fourths?
58:35Would you have done that? Like how low, I guess, when people have some of these assets and nobody's buying, would you would you go?
58:43Yeah. You know, it's hard. You're bringing up some emotions about this league because it's so hard to trade in this league.
58:49I don't think people don't value, you know, the proper way to build a best ball roster.
58:55And if that happens in your leagues, guys, it's it's incredibly hard to rebuild for a best ball roster.
59:00And I haven't quite figured that one out. So I'll keep you guys posted.
59:05If once we kind of pin that down, I'm in a similar league where there's just no the only trades that happen are during the rookie draft.
59:13Right. And I think that's probably what you do is you hold on to them.
59:18And once the league starts coming to the table to make trades and that's when you use them as a piece like
59:25you're probably not going to get the same values you would in season.
59:29But no one was giving that to you to begin with.
59:32Right. So then then you just take Goddard and you package them.
59:36Right. That like this is that's the goal. Like you take Goddard and you're packaging them with your second so that you
59:42can turn it into a future first or whatever it is.
59:46Oh, he said the name. He did the thing.
59:49Future first. I think that's probably the move. Right.
59:51I'm not I'm not especially Goddard where, you know, he's 31, which is old, but it's not old, old for a tight end.
59:58It's obviously not great going forward here that they drafted, you know, the tight end two of this class to come in and be his predecessor.
60:07But I still think I think especially if he at least shows out this season, which it sounds like is going to happen.
60:14People will buy into Dallas Goddard again. I think no one was buying into Dallas Goddard last year because we had seen multiple seasons of him fall off.
60:22And so no one was really like saying like, oh, like I want to buy into him as a dynasty asset.
60:29But I think if he goes out and does it again this year, which I think is very probable how their season
60:36is starting so far, at least for injuries. That you'll be able to actually get a useful thing here.
60:41Like if we're talking about an asset. That was, you know, like a 29 year old wide receiver that has at best
60:48finished as the wide receiver 52 in all of the seasons.
60:52Then, yeah, I'm moving in for anything, whatever I could get.
60:55Give me fab. Like, you know, like ideally you're giving me a pick or something like that.
61:00But yeah, anything right. Like maybe if you can move them for even like a backup running back, which, by the way, you're building this right.
61:08Look at all these backup running backs. You drafted heavily this year.
61:12You know, Adam Randall. You took Mike Washington, Katron Allen, Demon and Claiborne.
61:16Nick Singleton. You went heavy into the running back.
61:19You know, NERB on 53, which is great. Love the way you're building that.
61:23And also, I remembered what I wanted to say.
61:26But go ahead. Go ahead and finish what you want your thoughts on what I was saying.
61:31No. Yeah. I mean, I think another thing was like it didn't necessarily play out this way by intention, but I also ended up with Eli Stowers.
61:39So I think now maybe this season, if, you know, Goddard is showing promise or, you know, the offense seems to work
61:46with a tight end and either Stowers or Goddard, I kind of sell them as a package and maybe just re-roll the
61:53Stowers into a, you know, another pick in a better draft than 27 potentially.
61:57But yeah, I mean, the league is a little bit dry in terms of trading.
62:02So that's definitely made, you know, I think rebuilding, like you said, in a non-active league just makes it so much harder
62:09because then you're really, really stuck with your picks.
62:11And then if you make a bad one like Caleb Johnson or, you know, you come out of the draft with barely
62:18any value two years later like I did, you're just kind of in a situation where like every miss hurts 10 times worse.
62:25Right. Because there's, there's just no buddy out there to help you, you know, throw you a lifeline that you can then
62:32go make a positive move off of. Yeah. And I was going to say too, I think another thing that hurt you
62:39was how many points you had last season because you couldn't trade away these guys.
62:44Right. So you ended up with, even though you were like second to last in record, I think you ended up with
62:50the 105 because of just how the max points forward.
62:53And then you, like, we also have this kind of weird way of calculating how those picks go out and it just didn't, it didn't fall your way.
63:02You hate it. I know you do your vote.
63:05You're trying to vote it out at every turn of the season.
63:09We'll get there. We'll get there. Yeah. I mean, I mean the first season you almost stole Ashton Gentry from me.
63:15Almost. It was so close. I would have probably just, I've been quit the league at that point.
63:21I mean, not that Ashton Gentry has been able to revitalize my team like I had hoped, but hopefully if he has a crazy season this year.
63:29I mean, you know, I mean there was a moment last year where I would just almost said like, fuck it, like
63:36go in and try to win since I had some picks, but I was just like, there was no, nobody really to trade with again.
63:43So, but yeah, man, I mean, it's definitely a live and learn situation.
63:47You know, the league is definitely a good way to learn and like the buy-in isn't very steep.
63:53So, you know, it's something to keep around, to keep learning your lesson, how to dig yourself out of a hole.
63:59But otherwise, yeah, man. I mean, do you want to hit up your rebuild or did you have a final thoughts on this?
64:07I do. I do. Yeah. I have more rebuilding teams to choose from.
64:11This was Jose's only rebuild for Dynasty Best Ball.
64:13He's pretty good at building teams and, you know, obviously only falls into a rebuild when he gets incredibly unlucky.
64:20So let's jump over to my team here. This is a startup that happened in the 2024 season.
64:25So the same, same timeframe that the Lazy D started up.
64:28This is the Commissioner Cup Best Ball Dynasty. Everyone in this league is a commissioner for another league somewhere around the line.
64:35I drafted this team as a productive struggle. So I think I ended up selling a bunch of picks.
64:41I think I ended up selling like two startup fifth round picks straight up for, you know, 2025 first round picks in the startup.
64:49And I've made quite a few moves since, but I'm getting to a place now where I'm almost ready to come out of this rebuild.
64:56So this is a roster where I've been consolidating and making these moves that we've been talking about.
65:02And I think a good wrinkle to know about this league is that it's extremely shallow.
65:07I think we only roster 29 players. It feels shallow.
65:10I think it's usually 26. I think it's expanded right now.
65:13I think we'll drop back down. It's usually 26.
65:16So it's a shallower roster, which means the waivers are very fruitful.
65:20This is a league where I got Dallas Goddard off waivers a couple years back, and I was able to package him up into some incredible trades here.
65:28And I'm going to go over some of the trades that I did last year to kind of give you guys an
65:35insight of, you know, how to craft these moves.
65:38So on top of, you know, this pretty strong roster here where I have, you know, Jaden Daniels, Malik Willis, my quarterback room needs some work.
65:46But then I have Jeremiah Love, Omari and Hampton.
65:49I also have RJ Harvey, my wide receiver room, Malik Neighbors, Odunze, Josh Downs, Mike Evans, Jaden Higgins.
65:54Pretty strong wide receivers. I have Tucker Craft at tight end, Eli Raritan, Theo Johnson, Ben Sennett.
65:59And then the picks for 2027, I have my own and two other firsts for some pretty strong contenders.
66:05And then two seconds. And this year, my goal isn't going to necessarily come out and contend because I don't think I
66:12have those two times the starters, right? Like I got Jaden Daniels and Malik Willis.
66:17Those guys are solid starters. I got Jeremiah Love, Omari Hampton, RJ Harvey.
66:21That's five. These next five wide receivers, there's 10.
66:24Then I have 11 with Tucker Craft. And then beyond that, I'm still about 10, at least 10 to 11 players short
66:30of, you know, having that two times the number roster.
66:33I'm hoping this year is when I can start taking these assets and kind of not necessarily consolidating them anymore.
66:40But now I'm going to be looking just to kind of find that value in players where I can just stash them on my squad.
66:47And I'm going to be looking to contend next year.
66:50And while I'm stashing those players, I'm also going to be trying to build a treasure trove of picks in 2028.
66:57Because I think that's something that's extremely overlooked, especially in a best ball league, is when you exit a rebuild and you're ready to contend.
67:05You want to have a backlog of picks that now you have at your disposal.
67:09When you go into your season and you're ready to contend, you now have ammunition to put yourself over the top and
67:16contend seriously when you get in season if things go your way.
67:20And if they don't, now you have extra picks in the next season to kind of bolster your roster further.
67:26So I think this season I'm going to be looking to add a little bit of depth while also grabbing some 2028
67:33picks so that I'm well stocked going into the future here and looking that out.
67:37So some of the trades I wanted to highlight that I made last year, these consolidation trades.
67:43And here's one here where I took Dallas Goddard, Marcus Mariota, a 2026 second and a 2026 third.
67:48And I was able to get Tucker Kraft who was injured at the time.
67:52So I took four assets, consolidated them up into Tucker Kraft.
67:56Again, when you think about Marcus Mariota, he was starting for the Washington Commanders at that time.
68:01So I gave him, you know, the tight end four on the year.
68:05And then I also gave him a starting quarterback in addition to a second and a third.
68:10And I got back Tucker Kraft, which felt like a huge win for me.
68:15Another one here was here. I got Malik Neighbors in a 2027 first.
68:19And I sent away Kenneth Walker, Sam Darnold, Ricky Pearsall and Jerry Judy.
68:23So this one was a little more even, but still nonetheless, I got a Malik Neighbors and a 2027 first.
68:29And at this time, Kenneth Walker was still on the Seahawks and in committee.
68:33So like he was not valued as highly as he is now.
68:37But even if you look back at it now, this trade still favors me quite a bit just with how Ricky Pearsall
68:44has tumbled and Jerry Judy as well. But all four of those guys were startable assets last year.
68:49This guy actually won the league. I don't know necessarily because of this trade, but it couldn't have hurt.
68:55He had a starting quarterback to help get him there.
68:58So this is a great idea of a trade that's synergistic, synergizing, that word, on both sides of the trade where I
69:05win by getting the value, but he won literally by getting the championship.
69:09And then the last one I wanted to highlight here, which doesn't look as good here looking back, but at the time was good.
69:16CeeDee Lamb was hurt. I got CeeDee Lamb in a 2027 first.
69:20I sent away Tee Mack to Attaroll McMillan and Zay Flowers, DeAndre Swift, and Jalen Warren, four starters to get CeeDee Lamb in a 2027 first.
69:28Consolidating up and also getting that future capital. These are the ways that you can kind of turn that depth into value for your team.
69:36Yeah, 100%. I mean, I don't know. You probably don't want to scroll a little bit.
69:41A third for Tyler Shuck is probably not. Yeah, that was preseason.
69:44Right. Yeah. I made the pick on Tyler Shuck and then I started getting a little antsy and I was like, you know, just give me something.
69:53And the guy. But I mean, I think those are situations where people would be like, you know, but why are you trading all these players?
70:01Like, you know, but in terms of like points for right, like you're still playing that game.
70:06Like it's a lot to handle and it's a lot to manage because you're playing the points for game, but you're also
70:13trying to consolidate and then sometimes break up pieces.
70:16Like it's just not every trade is the same.
70:18It's not. That's why it's a little bit, you know, of a tricky and a bit more of a gamble, because when
70:25you're rebuilding in a traditional, you know, dynasty league, it's just like, OK, I'm just trying to get younger.
70:31All I want is young players. All I want is get all these old players and picks like if they're young and picks, that's all I want.
70:39Right. But you took on a pretty old seedy lamb in terms of, you know, dynasty value where you took on different players like a Mike Evans.
70:48Like you've taken on different players. But like if Mike Evans goes out there and he's the only person healthy, which I
70:54don't know if he is right now, but if he is for the 49ers, then you can like them package him or just sell him straight up.
71:03Right. Like there's so many things that you could do when you're getting not just young or picks.
71:08Right. That you can make a lot of different, I guess, like I keep saying, like gambles.
71:14Right. Like if you take on an older player, sure.
71:17For a rebuild, most people would be like, why do you why do you have Mike Evans on this rebuild?
71:23Like that doesn't make any sense. But it's it's just a gamble in a different way of where, you know, he's a
71:30perfect package up piece or he's a perfect just, you know, completely sell to somebody straight up for a second coming in the year coming up.
71:38Right. If he stays healthy. So I think it's it's a lot clear of a picture.
71:43And yeah, I mean, you're not there yet, but you're approaching that.
71:46And I think exactly what you said earlier about having that stockpile of picks, whether it's just because, you know, your 27 picks don't all work out.
71:55So you don't find yourself as much of a contender as you felt like.
71:59But then, hey, I still have two or three 28 picks to go on, you know, back into.
72:04Hey, I'm another year out. But hey, I have those 28 picks or hey, things turned around and played way better than I thought next year.
72:12My 27 picks are all super studs and are coming out and playing like a buka and, you know, having amazing first year seasons.
72:20Then, hey, now I can go smash and go for the the kill and try to win it with my 28 picks.
72:27I think that's something that a lot of people, they get so focused, especially right now.
72:32If you're rebuilding, you're so focused on the 27 class because that's all you hear about how it's generational, all these different things.
72:39But hey, man, like unless you really, really think they're going to nail every pick from 27 and you're not a full
72:46rebuild, like you need to be looking out further into 2028.
72:49Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I'm sitting here thinking about how I can trade away Mike Evans.
72:54And I'm like, can I just go get like a younger throttled asset?
72:58You know, maybe like a Rashid Shahi or like a Trey Harris and then get like a third or a couple of
73:05thirds on top of it and send away Mike Evans.
73:08I don't know. That might get done. Something I'm thinking about as you were talking about, you know, like how he's on
73:15team, how do I package him up? Yeah. But yeah, no, I mean, I think that's going to wrap us up here for the roster construction.
73:23Hopefully you guys have a better idea of, you know, what a rebuilding roster should look like.
73:28If you guys have a roster that that you think looks better as a rebuild, go ahead and send it over to us.
73:35I mean, I I'm one of the dynasty startups.
73:38We just did the best for startups. I went with the rebuilding roster.
73:42That would have been a good one to put on here because it kind of encapsulates all of these fundamentals that we're talking about.
73:49But this was one that I wanted to highlight because it had those moves in it that I think were, you know,
73:56much more better examples of how to create that value on the team as you go.
74:01So any closing thoughts here on the roster construction for the rebuild?
74:04No, I mean, I think, you know, it's it's a different animal, a different beast.
74:09If you need to do a rebuild, take it a little bit slower than you would.
74:14You don't need to do it all in one season.
74:17You don't need to do it all so quickly.
74:20Sell everything for the first pick that comes across your desk.
74:23Take it a little bit slow. Really think about really set a plan, a goal, a date in mind or at least
74:30a year in mind that you're looking to be coming out of this rebuild and what assets you're targeting.
74:36And, you know, really have a set plan rather than just say, OK, I'm rebuilding.
74:41I think in dynasty basketball, you can get in a lot deeper trouble than you can in a lineup league.
74:47Yeah, 100 percent you can. Yeah, it's it's a little bit trickier to navigate.
74:51So stay on the forefront of all these fundamentals, guys, and be sure to stay tuned in.
74:56We'll keep giving you guys the tips as we go.
