0:00Welcome to the Fantasy Footballers Podcast with your hosts, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright.
0:05Welcome in! That was very short. Did you think it was Thursday?
0:09No. No, you thought I was given space? Yeah.
0:12No, it just was what it was, Mike. You don't feel welcomed?
0:16Dude, the people! I don't want to say nothing, but the people hated it.
0:21They hated it. They hated it. I didn't really think it was that bad.
0:26I'm not going to lie. I didn't think it was that bad either, but the people.
0:31The people. Oh man. They're fickle. Wednesday, September 23rd, welcome into the Fantasy Footballers Podcast.
0:36Jason Moore, Mike Wright, Andy Holloway. We just had waivers go through in all of our leagues just before the show started.
0:43It's always... Wait, did CHOP go? ...fun this time of year.
0:47Oh, it did. Yeah, in the CHOP league, Mr.
0:50Derrick Henry goes to Mike. Oh baby! You got him!
0:53Mike got Derrick Henry and he bid 4.65. And that was...
0:57But number two? The next highest was 4.51. That is...
1:00Oh, that feels good. Swish! Oh baby! Yeah, Jeremiah Love went for 3.34.
1:05Quinshawn Jenkins went for 1.56. Quinshawn Bumpkins. Mike is celebrating.
1:08Kid, just keep... I'm on fire. Give me another name.
1:11No, it doesn't look like that. Give him another name.
1:15Uh, Mike Evans went for 1.21. That's a pretty good pickup.
1:18Dude, you asked... I know. ...you asked for an alley-oop and then you didn't even jump.
1:24What do the people think of that? Oh, I'll tell you what the people think of that.
1:29Oh no! Yeah, they're fickle! They're fickle! The people, Mike, are fickle.
1:33You did say they were fickle. Oh no! We have news to catch you up on today.
1:39Thursday night breakdown. We got unsolved mysteries on the show and some mailbags.
1:43So we've... I gotta get Henry in my lineup.
1:46Hold on. Okay. All right, I'm good to go.
1:49Would you rather have Henry for 4.65 or... Or play Bill Krosky again?
1:54Or Jamar Chase for 6.66? Oh. Well, considering my running back 2 situation...
1:58You just needed it? ...was Bill Krosky. Okay. That was it.
2:02All right. Quick question of the day. James in North Carolina writes in, what is your league format in the League of Record?
2:09I was listening to the Tuesday show and heard you say that Andy and Mike are 4-0 through two weeks.
2:16That's right. Because we work harder than you. That's right.
2:19Thanks, Mike. Fantastic. Our League of Record format is...
2:22A couple years ago, we had a vote to add median scoring.
2:26So you play one matchup per week against your head-to-head opponent, but you're also facing the median score of the league that week.
2:34So you can get up to two wins a week.
2:37This is something I had resisted for many years.
2:40But we have it in... Once I experienced a year of it, we added it to our Dynasty League.
2:47It's just... We enjoy the median scoring system. And now when I'm in leagues that don't have it, I'm kind of disappointed.
2:54When you say, oh, after you finally stopped resisting, we added it to the Dynasty League.
2:59If you weren't with us several years ago when we did this, what happened was we got Andy to vote for it
3:07and it went through in our league and we tried it.
3:10And then two weeks in to the season, like where you don't usually make in-season changes, Andy led the charge to switch
3:18our Dynasty League over to median scoring, which I completely agree with you.
3:22In the leagues that I am in, where I am 1-0 or 0-1 on a week, it's like, this is stupid.
3:29Let me explain a little bit of... I think I probably have in my head every argument against it possible.
3:36Everything I will see against median scoring. My arguments used to be about the consequence of the week, right?
3:42Like if you lose to the second highest, you know, the highest scoring team and you have the second most points, you know, so what?
3:50You know what I mean? It does. That's the way it goes.
3:54Them's the breaks. Be tough. Battle through it. If it doesn't go your way, it doesn't matter.
4:00The reason that I got on board wasn't necessarily some fairness argument that like, well, you know, if you lose tough luck
4:07loss, it's more fair to get an extra win.
4:10No. The reason I got on board right away was the entertainment of it.
4:15It became very fun. We have games now on Thursday Night Football and sometimes matchups are nearly settled on Thursday Night.
4:22Last week who I was playing against, they didn't have a shot after Thursday Night Football because of Gibbs and Allen and Amon Ra.
4:30It was over. But week after week after week, it was entertaining to watch all the way through the end of Monday
4:37night because every point scored for every team changes the median score of the league.
4:42You're competing against that number. It's more drama. It's more excitement.
4:46It's more fun. F-U-N. More fun. That is the argument for median scoring.
4:50Does it mitigate a bad feeling if you get lost or if you lose to a higher scoring team and you scored a bunch?
4:58Not really. I mean, it doesn't change it that much.
5:02Jason was whining all week about barely, you know, losing in the dynasty to the, you know, he still whined the same amount in dynasty.
5:10You're darn right. I did. And so I scored the second highest.
5:14It didn't know if the median didn't nullify your pain.
5:17No, it did not. No, it did not nullify the pain.
5:21I did. That sucked. That still sucked. Now, but you're also three and one instead of being one and one.
5:28Yeah. No, it's it's definitely better. But but it is far more about the fun, the entertainment.
5:33The that's why we're playing fantasy football. There's more to watch more to pay attention to more going on Monday.
5:40I pay so much more attention to the rest of the league outside of my matchup before I was like, how am I doing?
5:48Or maybe how are you two doing like, oh, you're going to win.
5:52You're going to lose. Now I care about how's the sixth best team of the week scoring because I would like to score more than them.
6:01Yep. And if you want to see more details on our League of Record keeper format, the whole league, we have that on the website.
6:09You can kind of just if you want to Google that fantasy footballers League of Record keeper format.
6:15It has all of the details on there. Let's jump into the news because, well, we have some news and notes from around the league.
6:24All right. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Jackson Dart's knee injury worse than initially thought.
6:28He is expected to have season ending knee surgery in Rappaport this morning.
6:33ACL intact damage to the PCL MCL and meniscus.
6:36His season is done. Yeah, it seems like it went from, hey, he avoided something.
6:41How may he try to get back in the game?
6:44It's going to be, you know, not a very big problem to.
6:48Oh, there's so much damage in that knee. It's a pretty big problem.
6:52So Jameis Winston, Mike, you picked him up in our dynasty league.
6:56You paid up for him because you needed him.
6:59I ran into a problem of quarterback by weeks.
7:02Yeah. So that that's a good ad in a dynasty league Mariota as well.
7:07Yeah, I will say this. I agree with those that believe this Winston will not be the Winston of bold.
7:14I do not think that it is compatible with the philosophy of Harbaugh to turn the ball over proportional to touchdowns.
7:21That's kind of the Winston experience that we've known to love.
7:24But there is there's many and I'm one of them that does not believe that that will be permitted.
7:31I think the offense will be will be protective of the football.
7:35I think they're going to that. Yeah, I think they're going to try Harbaugh is going to try to run the ball
7:42play defense, you know, manage the game a little.
7:45However, Winston's going to Winston. I think what we saw this first week was a lot of the Rams defense.
7:52So Winston did nothing. I mean, he really didn't.
7:55He didn't put up any yardage numbers, any points that, you know, you were writing home about.
8:00But a lot of that, I think, was the Rams defense coming to play and they're a very good defense.
8:07They had, you know, they've got shut down corners.
8:10They've got Aaron Donald there. And then Malik neighbors was a little banged up.
8:15So I do think it's going to be in between.
8:18It's not going to be 5,000 yards, 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions like Jamis of old that we loved.
8:24But I don't think it's going to be some nerfed backup that can't go out there and throw 300 yards and two touchdowns and two interceptions.
8:33They did extend him. So like Harbaugh was a part of this.
8:37He was already there when they gave Jamis Winston the new money.
8:41That's because he hadn't been playing. Like they, so it's, it's hard.
8:45No one extends Winston after he's been playing. I agree that Jim Hart or not Jim, John Harbaugh will, he doesn't want the Winston style.
8:53But I mean, this, if, if this team is just gonna be like, well, we're going to run and we're going to
9:01defense and we're going to stay in the game.
9:04No, you're not. No, you're not. You will have to start throwing eventually.
9:08Uh, and then we'll see how reckless Jamis can get on Sundays.
9:12Um, I love that. It's Winston and Mariota. Yeah.
9:15The number one and number two pick in whatever year that was.
9:19It's like, Hey, it's their time to go again.
9:22Yeah. That's, that's wild. Um, we did just get word that Michael Penix, not only is he starting on Thursday, but Tua will be the backup on Thursday.
9:31He is good to go against green Bay. They made the decision not to start Tua.
9:36Right. They did take Cooper rush behind the shed.
9:39Oh, okay. And we will not be seeing him again to work on the shed.
9:44Yeah. Yeah. No. Jonathan Brooks on, on injured reserve out for at least six weeks.
9:49Core muscle repair surgery. Working out Austin Eckler. I love yesterday's show.
9:53I was like, I'm going to do a study on whether or not people are injury prone.
9:59And then it's like the most injury prone player is like, Oh, it turns out this injury is like, eh, it might be okay.
10:07Now you're going to injured, injured reserve six weeks surgery.
10:10Yeah. Alec Pierce officially on IR for at least four weeks trying to rehab, at least before he may need surgery.
10:17Rico daddled day to day, uh, after undergoing tests on his injured toe.
10:22And, uh, Hey, here we go. Bears fans, Tyson Baygent.
10:25He's in the concussion protocol. If he cannot get through the protocol, which is challenging on one week for anybody.
10:32Well, not on, not only that, he didn't get knocked out of the game.
10:36So like this was after the game. He clearly went and reported concussion symptoms.
10:41The only good news there, they do play on Monday night.
10:45So it could be Baygent. It could be case Keenum dude.
10:48It, and it's the Eagles. It. So that is, I mean, I, I, I would go so far as to say like,
10:56I'm, I'm, I'm benching all my bears receivers. I pass.
10:59Yeah. I totally get it. This, the bears is like other than injuries.
11:03I go, you come into fantasy football, but there's always debacles where you had something projected one way and it goes completely sideways and you're not even close.
11:13And it's like, it feels like that. That's what the bears are right now, but nothing is, we can't, we can't get a normal bears game.
11:21Yeah. The first week was an outlandish, no defense.
11:24The running game took over. Like Swift and Monunga are just scoring all the time.
11:29Second week was crazy. Insane weather. The end of game losing Caleb Williams, which is usually that last, that last driver two
11:37is where about 50% of his fantasy points comes from.
11:40True. Um, yeah. I mean, I feel like we're getting bailed out right now of not starting Rome or Luther or Loveland.
11:47It's like, because we're to the backup of the backup.
11:51We're like, oh, now we're going to bench him.
11:54You should have been benching him. The, the hard part will be Loveland because you're going to have to go into the
12:01dumpster and put a name in like Dalton Schultz and be, and put and do that on a Sunday and or Monday
12:08and be like, yep, I, this is, I'm doing this.
12:12I am making this decision to play Dalton Schultz over Colston Loveland.
12:16And how does it feel? It's, it's probably the right move, but it's going to hurt your heart.
12:22Yeah, it's not great. No. Brandon Cook signed to the practice squad for the 49ers.
12:27You can see him moved up soon with all their injuries.
12:30That makes me a little bit more worried about Mike Evans.
12:34Well, they, they did say, I know they lost, um, they lost Robinson.
12:38It was in the context of losing Robinson that the conversation about adding someone happened.
12:43Um, they said Kirk was too many weeks away.
12:46Christian Kirk, who is on the 49ers in case you're curious, but also injured because he's on the 49ers.
12:53Meowson Taylor week to week with a thumb injury.
12:56We'll miss Sunday's game against the lions. Most likely a paw injury paw.
13:00Yes. Yeah. Okay. Hey, that's Matt's joke. It's all right.
13:03It's okay. Uh, give him credit. That one was good.
13:07Let's jump into some unsolved mysteries. Unsolved mysteries. Well, uh, this will be fun.
13:11We've got two weeks of the NFL season in the books.
13:15Last year on this episode, after two weeks, we were worried about rookie running backs.
13:20We were panicking about Hampton and Travo. They were drop candidates in week two.
13:25So that was some of last year. Uh, we thought the Eagles passing offense was doomed.
13:30Was it? Uh, kinda. Uh, Javante Williams had a hot start last year.
13:34We wanted to know if Javante's performances would continue.
13:37And then, uh, apparently Drake London had a slow start.
13:41Yeah. And we wondered if that, uh, bridge was falling down.
13:44I guess that's how I like it. I guess that's how it was worded.
13:49Yeah. Uh, right. So London bridge jokes. Yeah. Come on here for it.
13:53We're better than that. We're not. Uh, did Bryce young level up?
13:57Number one unsolved mystery for the season. Bryce young is the quarterback two in fantasy football.
14:03It wasn't. I mean, we say, okay, he played Atlanta.
14:06That's true. It wasn't his highest scoring fantasy week.
14:09His highest scoring fantasy week was week one against Chicago where he scored 31 fancy points.
14:14It's also where he had 361 passing yards. So the bigger thing, three touchdowns in each of the last two weeks, only one interception.
14:22So here's is Bryce young. Did he level up?
14:25I will say that he, I was purely like from a passing perspective, he was the most impressive morning quarterback on Sunday.
14:33I will say he looks different. He looks like he's having fun.
14:37He's, you know, he's, he's doing what he wants out there.
14:40I think the canal system is working. We, we have been, you know, uh, supporters of canalis and hopeful that Bryce young
14:48can figure it out through two weeks. We were losing faith.
14:51He has. Yeah, we were through two weeks. He has looked good.
14:55He has played well, the wide receivers. He's got a good core.
14:59I mean, you had Darren Waller who obviously is not the Darren Waller of old, but around the, you know, in the
15:07red zone, having that as someone three touchdowns, you know, in two back-to-back weeks for Bryce young is great.
15:13Ted Aroa Coker and Darren Waller. That's a really nice trifecta of receivers.
15:17However, I do think like the matchups are pretty darn easy so far.
15:22The Chicago bears, we left that game going. Their defense was terrible.
15:26They had some injuries in preseason. It looked like they were not prepared for it.
15:31Atlanta. I want to remind you guys. It wasn't terrible.
15:34And we, I mean, Chicago's defense was better in week two.
15:38Well, sure. The rain was the 12th man. Um, but last year in Atlanta, Bryce young was 448 yards and three touchdowns.
15:45I mean, you would have said he figured it out.
15:48He was unbelievable. Then he threw 169, 206, 163, 191, 54.
15:52Like, so I, I am, I am more skeptical that he figured it out.
15:57I'm very hopeful. Uh, I will say he has looked good two games in a row.
16:02He is young enough where we saw this from Trevor Lawrence last year.
16:06Trevor Lawrence was a player who was a disappointment for what he was supposed to be.
16:12A couple of years into his career while he's still young with a good offensive coordinator, figured it out.
16:18And I think we all would say Trevor Lawrence figured it out.
16:22He's a, he's a very good quarterback. I'm hopeful that's Bryce young, but I, I mean really what's their matchup this week?
16:29I don't know Bryce young's current matchup for this coming week, but that's like Cleveland.
16:34Should be fine. That's a perfect test for him.
16:37Cause that is a decent defense. Should be fine.
16:40Here's what, here's what is different though. Is when you think of what the Carolina Panthers have been the last couple of years, it's the Chuba Hubbard year.
16:50It's last year's combo of Chuba and Rico. Like this was a, this was a run team.
16:55The Carolina Panthers are currently playing the fastest of any team in the NFL.
17:00They're, uh, their plays at a 23 seconds per play.
17:03And they're just like, so they're getting a whole bunch of extra plays in and the Carolina Panthers are number one in neutral pass rate right now.
17:12This is a, they, they've turned it over. They said, hi, have Ted McMillan and Jalen Coker, two premier wide receivers.
17:19Like they're like, let's stop doing this. Go, stop doing the run.
17:23And then having Bryce young have to figure it out.
17:27What if we let Bryce young be the engine of the team?
17:31And so far through two weeks, not only is it we're passing all the time, they're playing super fast.
17:37So this like this looks like a, it looks like something that I would buy into 8.9 yards per attempt, which is blowing away all of his career.
17:46That's fantastic. 10.5 yards average depth of target. I think the unlock the health of Jalen Coker has been crucial to this offense for sure.
17:55And to have a red zone threat, like Waller, where now your option one down around the goal line might be, you
18:02know, Jason brought them up to involve Waller. It is something to watch.
18:06It's two weeks, but it is something to watch.
18:09Where do you think from week three through 17, Bryce young is the quarterback.
18:14What? 10. I think 20. I'm more on Andy side of like, if this is the new, if this is the new
18:21way that the Carolina Panthers are going to run it, then they're just, there will be yards.
18:27We either going to either, they go out there and they pass and they succeed.
18:32And we're like, fantastic for Bryce young, or he goes out and he fails and he has to keep passing more.
18:39Uh, so I'm, I think I'm in, I think I'm in.
18:43Yeah. I mean, it's terrifying. It is a, it looks different philosophically.
18:47Yes. I think that was a good point. We'll take a break and we'll come back with another unsolved mystery.
18:53All right. Unsolved mystery. Number two, ironic because last year through two weeks, we were bringing up the hot start.
19:00Now it's a slow start. Javante Williams. Will the slow start continue for Cowboys running back Javante through two weeks?
19:07He's averaging 2.96 yards per carry. Whoa. He's all the way there.
19:11Yeah. Um, 50% of his yards have gone for two or fewer yards.
19:15Yeah. That's, that's the ones I've seen. Did I say 50% of his yards?
19:20I did say that. 50% of his runs. 50% of his runs.
19:24Uh, he is 42nd out of 43 running backs.
19:27Um, in terms of first downs, two of them on 24 carries.
19:31He has not been the engine. Right. And one might point to an offensive line that is dead last in yards before contact in terms of.
19:39That's not good for Javante. No, because Javante gets what's blocked.
19:43Correct. You know, and he does it consistently or held.
19:46He had a really nice wrong run last week on a, on a holding penalty that came back.
19:52True. That's true. He, a hold or a block.
19:55I mean, who's the, I will say this Mike and I, over the first two weeks over and over and over while watching are like, woof.
20:04Yes. He looks like him. Sometimes you watch a player and you go, man, it's been squeezed.
20:10Nothing is happening for this guy. He can't get any blocking.
20:13He can't get protection. But whenever we see Javante doing anything, he looks slow.
20:18You know, it's like you say, will this slow start continue?
20:22That is very well worded because it feels like he is carrying extra pounds or something.
20:27He's got a flak jacket on. I don't know what's going on.
20:31He does not look good. So I'm 12 for one, 12 for 41, 12 for 30.
20:36He got saved a little bit in week one because he got into the end zone.
20:42That is what you are hoping for. He got two touchdowns week one.
20:46Oh, that's right. He got a receiving touchdown. Yeah.
20:49Yeah. I'm, I'm, I am very worried from what I have seen.
20:53I love the fact that this is a player playing 71%, 80% of the snaps for a good offense.
20:59So I'm not like bailing on a workhorse back for a good offense, but I am worried about his actual, you know, physical ability.
21:07His, you know, opportunity is greater sign than ability for the running back position in fantasy football.
21:13And his opportunity is great, but man, he does not look good.
21:17I might make him a buy low candidate in a week or two when we start to get closer to the return
21:24of Tyler Smith on the offensive line because he's on IR.
21:28Um, he's a pro bowler. They need him, but it, you know, the thing about Dallas is if, if the running game
21:35is not working, we know what's going to happen.
21:38They're going to throw the ball. They're going to chuck it and they're going to have success doing that.
21:45Yeah. The next two weeks are very difficult. They're playing against the Baltimore Ravens and then the Houston Texans.
21:51Oh, that's why you said two weeks. Yes. Yeah.
21:54No, it's fair. I mean, I, I tend to find myself kind of in, in the middle on him, like not quite
22:01ready to like, I saw enough over a long period of time last year to where I'm, I'm willing to wait another
22:09week or two, but the Baltimore Houston matchup is a little bit concerning in terms of like, I guess you just keep starting him.
22:17Yeah. I think the offensive line injury is a legitimate thought process because this is a player who gets what is given to him.
22:25He's not going to create on his own at this stage, but he, you know, if, if he has holes, if he
22:32has places to run and right now he just doesn't.
22:35So how do you know the timeline on that injury?
22:39Week five is the earliest he can return. So, um, that's the, that's the targeted return week five.
22:45The, and the upside case is just the offense.
22:48Cause even the, even the passing game hasn't been fully clicking like CD lamb monster game, but we need both CD and
22:55George to get cooking cause that'll turn into a bunch of touchdown opportunities.
22:59It really does feel like Javante Williams is as good as the amount of pass interference in the end zone on George Pickens, which is awesome at that.
23:09So good at drawing PI. Yeah. I think George Pickens is near the top of the list of, uh, reasons why you
23:16want to give like a point to a receiver that causes a PI.
23:20All right, guys, this one's even harder. The Mike McDaniel mystery is Mike McDaniel, a good offensive coordinator.
23:26There are two teams. There are two teams in the history of the world and you're going to love it that have
23:34lost back to back home games by double digits against team teams with a sub 200 win percentage the previous year.
23:41It is the 2026 Los Angeles chargers and the 1926 racing tornadoes.
23:45One hundred years ago. And the tornadoes dissolved the very next game.
23:49They're like, uh, we're out of, we're out of here.
23:52I think some fans of the chargers may hope for a dissolving soon.
23:56It has been an utter embarrassment for the 26 to 14, both weeks at home against two bad teams.
24:03And then the gauntlet of the schedule coming up.
24:06I mean, I, how do you evaluate Mike McDaniel at this juncture?
24:10They have another offensive line injury. You have your best wide receiver by a lot, apparently by a lot injured.
24:16Yes. Wearing a flak jacket. And because everybody else that they asked to step up last week, either got hurt or drop the ball or both.
24:25I remember years ago, which is not on Mike McDaniel or Herbert when this guy, Mike McDaniel was hired kind of surprisingly
24:32to be the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
24:35Um, we kind of reached out to juice, uh, shout out juice.
24:39You're you're awesome. Kyle use check Kyle use check and, uh, ask like, is this guy the real deal?
24:46And he, he said some really good things about Mike McDaniel that he's, he's very good, very creative, very smart.
24:52And he had, he was, he had a lot of success.
24:56I will say that the Dolphins, just a reminder, the Dolphins, which are now going to be the worst team in the NFL.
25:04They were seven and 10 in the AFC East last year.
25:07I so that it's when we watch, I don't, it's weird, man.
25:11When we watched the first quarter and a half of week one, the Chargers offense seemed fine.
25:17Lad McConkie gets injured and they couldn't do anything.
25:20The plays where Lad was in last week looked okay.
25:23I just don't know if, if Lad is gone, I don't know if they have the weapons to move.
25:30I was going to say, is it a personnel issue?
25:33The thing that I would push back on is that, you know, Kyle Shanahan has been dealt impossible hands with impossible depth problems and injuries.
25:41Quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, everybody. For countless years.
25:44And then you go out there and the offense looks the same the next week.
25:49It's Jawan Jennings. Sometimes. Or it's Kendrick Bourne. Or it's, or it's.
25:53The 49ers have down years. Yeah, the 49ers. Not, not many.
25:57No, but when they're down, they're like the. I know we, we talked about it, but we thought, you know, we thought it'd be worse this year.
26:06And they look like a machine, even with the injuries.
26:09I'm just saying like, I, I think that the personnel, they've put together enough players in Los Angeles for the offense to be.
26:17Like you already blamed Greg Roman once and you supposedly came back and fixed all these issues.
26:23Hmm. I hear what you're saying. Um. It's Harbaugh's fault.
26:26It. Perfect. I think it's a, it's a, a combination of factors.
26:30I think they have had very poor performances from their players that are independent of Mike McDaniel and Herbert.
26:36Drops. They've been nasty. Drops that turn into interceptions like where you hit a wide receiver in the hand and he was
26:44like, oh, let me give it to the defense.
26:47But I mean, 30th in EPA per play, 30th in percentage of drives resulting in a score 31st in turnover differential.
26:54Uh, are they pressing easy buttons? I don't know.
26:57I haven't seen it yet. There's no way we can have an unsolved mystery here and come in here and say something
27:04positive about what the offense has done yet. Correct.
27:07It's just, can you go out and perform? And when you look at the schedule, it's, it's a really tough, like I
27:14am not afraid to play defenses against the Chargers right now.
27:18Right. Like I'd be the, the matchups that are coming up.
27:22Like I used to be scared of them. I, and I feel like there's going to be a stress and a strain that just increases with every loss.
27:31Like, are they going to win in Buffalo this week?
27:34No. I mean, that would be Chargers like for that game to be close.
27:39That would be the most Chargers thing. I mean, the line's only seven.
27:43That's a pretty big line. Yeah, that's a pretty big line.
27:47I mean, when you're in Buffalo and they're two and oh, I just think that's a low line.
27:53I think I'm taking Buffalo. I'm taking Buffalo for sure.
27:56To win? To cover the spread. Yeah. Of course to win.
28:00Yeah. I mean, I think that that is, I think that I would definitely take Buffalo to cover the spread based on what I've seen of the Chargers.
28:09I'm just saying that I'm surprised a little bit that that's not 10 and a half.
28:14Yeah. I, I do think Mike McDaniel is good.
28:17We, he couldn't have done what he did with the dolphins with Tua, who was not a good quarterback.
28:24Don't things wear off though? Yeah. I mean, don't you do, don't you do cool stuff?
28:29I mean, that would happen in Miami. Yeah. In Miami, they'd play, they'd be the leading team.
28:35Like Tua would lead the league in passing yards through four weeks.
28:39And then the offense would start to get into a funk and decline.
28:43That happened multiple years. Yeah. I mean, he did lead the league in yardage for an entire season.
28:49Tua did. So I, I. That was the Tyreek debut year.
28:53Yeah. I mean, it was, it was very nice to have Tyreek and Jalen Waddle out there, which is why I think they need Lad McConkie.
29:01They need their number one wide receiver. If, if he's gone, it's, it's really tough.
29:06We haven't really, I mean, was Mike McDaniel, was he the OC for the 49ers when, when he was, you know, before the dolphins?
29:14Because obviously as a head coach, he was in charge of all of the offense for the dolphins.
29:20He was the OC in 2021 before he became the head coach.
29:24I think Mike McDaniel is still a good, is still a good offensive mind.
29:29Um, man, it feels so, so hard to be supportive to the chargers.
29:33Do they bounce? I mean, you have to say, if you believe that I think the offense, I think the offense bounces forward.
29:41Certainly. Like, I just don't know if it's enough.
29:44Bounces forward. Like, is that the opposite of bouncing back?
29:47Don't start this. I. Bounce back means that you return.
29:51But they, what are they returning to? They were never really great.
29:55Not under McDaniel. But I don't know if you're bouncing forward, Jay.
29:59I think they will get better is what I'm saying.
30:02That's fine. Um, I don't know if it happens.
30:05Because I, I, I'm, I don't think they have enough of the pieces in place.
30:10He may not have the, the one particular guy he needs.
30:14You lost two big tight ends. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Tyreek Hill wasn't, was a cheat code that year.
30:20Yes. For two years. Um, yeah. All right. Let's talk Thursday night.
30:24Thursday night breakdown. The only way you can upgrade a, uh, you know, Buffalo Detroit Thursday night is to get yourself some Atlanta green Bay.
30:32Nice. Atlanta. Oh, and two taking on the green Bay Packers who are one in one Vegas line green Bay minus five
30:40and a half over under 43 and a half.
30:43It's a at Lambeau field. And we have not seen many quarters of impressive offensive football from these two franchises.
30:49Uh, zero for the Falcons and at least one good one for the Packers quarter.
30:54Yeah. In two games. Yeah. So good. First half against Minnesota.
30:58I said at least one. It could be two.
31:01I'll give them to the Falcons are the fourth team since 1978 to go, uh, their first two games without a play in the red zone.
31:10So when you look at the fantasy output of B Sean Robinson and recognize that they have run zero plays in the
31:17red zone, like it's pretty much as bad as it could be on offense.
31:22And he's still going to catch a lot of check downs and things of that nature.
31:27Um, green Bay, they've been past heavy so far.
31:30The running game has been a, a mixture of Marshawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks and Caleb Johnson.
31:36And that mixture has resulted in inefficiencies. I think on the offensive side of the football.
31:41Yeah. What do we think happens with the running backs?
31:44I think you're going to see Caleb Johnson get more, more, more looks, get more run because he had, he fumbled.
31:51Right. Am I remembering that? So did Marshawn Lloyd.
31:54Yeah. But Caleb got it back. They got it back.
31:58And then I think Marshawn, they lost it. And Lloyd had the nice receiving touchdown.
32:03It, I mean, Chris Brooks has been on the season.
32:06He has the snaps. Yeah. He's four for 11 last game.
32:10Yeah. He has not been good. I mean, honestly, he takes the most snaps cause they trust him.
32:16I think in some passing blocking situations when watching.
32:19And I, I know it's difficult for me to be the one to say it, but genuinely when watching the game, Caleb Johnson looks like an explosive athlete.
32:28Yeah. The others, the other two do not. Um, we, we were watching the three of us together in the studio and
32:35I didn't even know who it was. So some back just got the ball and looked good for the first time, like in forever for the Packers.
32:44I was like, Oh dude, there you go. There's some juice.
32:48And then it was like, that was Caleb Johnson's first touch.
32:52It was like, give him the ball. I hope he is more involved.
32:56I still do believe very much that what has been proven is that this team needs Josh Jacobs.
33:02Well, they also need a healthy Tucker craft and his snap count jumping up from, and then your healthy offensive 50 something
33:09percent to 98% is a big deal. I think the Tucker craft breakout will be coming.
33:15They paid him the, you know, top tier tight end money.
33:18But last week it was, uh, the weather was rough, right?
33:22I mean, wasn't that another one of the weather games against New York and you did not get the performance, but I
33:29do think that unlocking, you know, they lost Jaden Reed.
33:33He's going to be out golden and Watson. I don't, I don't feel like they have a possession receiver right now.
33:40Yeah. Like that's not how it feels. No, that's not a guy that's going to go give you 11 catches.
33:46Like you need Tucker craft to get the offense going and they need to start drawing up plays for him because did you see the report?
33:55Uh, this is from Graziano said the Packers talked about using Tucker craft at one of the offensive line positions at one
34:02point during week two after four offensive linemen left Sunday's game due to injury.
34:07So that, yeah, that's been a massive issue. They lost what?
34:11Um, they put one of them on their offensive tackle on IR.
34:15Zach Baco Buelli. Zach Baco Buelli. Oh gosh, I shouldn't have tried that.
34:19Should have stuck with offensive linemen. You should have gone ZBB.
34:23I'm sure that, uh, let me throw it over the deucers cause the Packer fan over there knows his name.
34:29What's his name again? Zach Baca Buelli. Okay. You got the thing.
34:33I look dumb right there. I don't, I don't think so.
34:37Block by James. I think owl looked good. Okay.
34:40That was really impressive. Thank you. I have no idea if it was right.
34:45Oh, you dirty dog. You said it was such confidence.
34:48You can't reveal that. That was so confident. No one would have ever known other than his mom.
34:54Baco Buelli. Wow. Now you're probably right. Honestly, he hears that.
34:58He's like, that is how it's said. Um, okay.
35:01So. It's Bacalova. We start Christian Watson. We start Matthew Golden.
35:04You starting Tucker Craft? Yes. With 98% of snaps?
35:07Yes. Are you starting any of the running backs?
35:10No. In this Thursday night game? I don't think you can.
35:14And Jordan Love? Would you start Jordan Love or like Jared Goff this week?
35:19Jared Goff. How about Tyler Shuck? Or Jordan Love?
35:22Shuck. What about Drake May? Oh, no. I think you might have found it.
35:26Yeah. Yoinks. Drake London first week with a non-Cooper Rush quarterback.
35:30Are you just starting him? 100%. Kyle Pitts? Not quite as much.
35:34Sorry, what were you going to say about London?
35:37So with London, if you look at the games where he played with Michael Pinnock last year, we have proof of this.
35:44He was on pace for 180 targets. That's a lot.
35:48He was the wide receiver five. He was the wide receiver one.
35:52He was the wide receiver one on a week.
35:55Like he had massive performance with Michael Pinnock. You also had Bijan on pace for over 100 targets.
36:01So the consolidation there, the ability to get these two stars the ball, not necessarily in great conditions.
36:07They're not going to be just destroying the field for yards after the catch because, you know, they're getting them from Michael Pinnock.
36:14But he can get the ball to them. You have seen, we have enough evidence of great fantasy output from both Drake
36:22London and Bijan with Michael Pinnock in there. So I believe that like, like London should be a start of the week
36:29because people might be very afraid, very afraid to play London and you should not be.
36:34He should be in every single lineup. Play Bijan, play London, log out.
36:39Are you moving away from Pitts? I'm not necessarily moving away from him.
36:43He's, I mean, at the tight end position. Kyle Pitts or Colston Loveland with?
36:48Oh, Pitts. Oh, oh, I don't know how you start Loveland right now.
36:52He's got one catch and he's got the third string quarterback.
36:56Pitts, I think, is somebody that we just haven't been able.
36:59It's like London. You just haven't been able to see what the offense can do.
37:04Now, going to Lambeau on Thursday Night Football for the first start since an injury.
37:09I wouldn't be dialing up a big game from these guys personally.
37:13We'll see. We'll see what happens. Yeah. And we'll also see what happens in pre-game warm ups.
37:19We'll see which quarterback decides that they don't want to play.
37:23So they decide that they're hurt. We'll take a break.
37:26We'll jump into some mailbag. All right. Let's do it.
37:29Mailbag. Mailbag. Presented by Paramount Plus. Okay. Yeah. The people hate it.
37:33People hate what you did there. No flourish. No flourish.
37:37You can't flourish. You can't flourish over Paramount. Not on a day like today.
37:41You could have a baby flourish. Yeah, you could have.
37:45See? Proved it. If you have a question, go to the website, thefantasyfootballers.com.
37:49Click that submit a question button or dial our voicemail hotline 302464 TFFB.
37:53We'll start off with a voicemail. Hey, this is Brian in Minneapolis, St.
37:58Paul. And I just have a quick one. Is Patrick Mahomes back?
38:02What are your thoughts? It looks like it. And you want to know the difference?
38:07Matt freaking nagged. He's gone. Like, I mean, you know, this was like we talked about this with the Rushy Rice and
38:14the fact that he's not being utilized the way he was the last couple years, which the way he was utilized was
38:21really good for him for fantasy football. It was not good for the Chiefs.
38:26It was not like a very good, you know, EPA play.
38:30And now all of a sudden the Chiefs offense looks much better.
38:34They've got the enemy back. It's eh. I mean, we all know what happened.
38:38Indy's defense is not that great. We all know what happened to the Chiefs, Jason.
38:43Hit the button. Oh, yeah. They entered the bone zone.
38:47Ken Bone Walker. Yeah. Oh, just that one, huh?
38:50No, like, Ken Walker on the Chiefs. It's not inside the 20.
38:54That is the bone zone. It is the field.
38:57Yeah. Well, listen. Once he's on, he's in the zone.
39:00Here's what makes Patrick Mahomes dangerous. And if you want to argue for him being back, it's he's only going to get
39:07stronger as the year goes on in terms of being able to pick his spots when running the football and being confident on the leg.
39:16Him running was is like, but shocking. But the thing that makes Patrick Mahomes exceptionally dangerous and this team dangerous offensively is
39:23Ken Walker, not because of Walker's production, but because of the fact that now you have play action and you have a
39:30defense that has to account for, you know, one of the best backs in the game, a tackle breaking.
39:37You know, you have to gang tackle this guy.
39:40You have to keep people down on the line of scrimmage.
39:43And like, it's not like we're hyper impressed with any of the targets that Mahomes has.
39:49Well, Kelsey's look pretty good. Well, Kelsey's look good, but I'm saying like we don't have, there's not the big name out there, right?
39:57This is Tyquan Thornton. This is, uh, you know, not players that you're individually starting.
40:02Rashi Rice has not been wildly productive, but it's because the fact he can spread the ball around and they can play
40:09action pass and pick the spots and take deep shots around the goal line.
40:14What I've seen through two weeks is what we like.
40:17If we think about like the last decade and what we think of Chiefs and and Mahomes and the fantasy outpouring, it's like it's back.
40:25It's creative. It's there was a play where it was like, you know, they rolled out on play action, which you have to play the play action on.
40:35Yes. And Kenneth Walker, he rolls out to the right and he can run in or there's Rashi Rice or Xavier Worthy or Travis Kelsey and two defenders.
40:44And it's like you, they did a great job covering some of the options, but the designs were so good.
40:51It was just easy. So easy for Mahomes to, he could have just picked whatever he wanted, whoever was open, throw the touchdown to him.
40:59I mean, he's got three touchdowns through two weeks.
41:02And I think, I think Mahomes for fantasy purposes, when he's around the goal line, it's kind of like how Jalen Hurts has the tush push.
41:11He gets kind of free touchdowns. The tap pass for Mahomes and the designs around the goal line, I think he's going to have a ton of touchdowns.
41:20I believe he's back for fantasy. Well, let me ask you the same question.
41:25He gets, what, six touchdowns. Yes. You said three.
41:28Well, I meant three each week. Oh, okay. Yeah, three week one, one rushing, two passing, and three passing touchdowns week two.
41:35Same question as Bryce Young. From week three on, Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback what?
41:40Five. Oh, gosh. That is hyper bullish for a guy that's been way outside of that for the past few years.
41:47Oh, for sure. I would put him. He's the quarterback 11 the last two years.
41:52Would you rather have Bryce Young every week or Patrick Mahomes every week?
41:56Mahomes. Easy Mahomes for me. I think maybe eight or nine is where I would put him.
42:02Look, not every game is going to be 47 pass attempts, and that's what we got in week two because Indianapolis kept up, right?
42:10Yeah. I mean, Miami this week, you better get it early because if they're out ahead of this thing, you're not going
42:17to need to throw the ball 47 times. Well, he only threw the ball 27 times in week one, but he's still
42:25around the goal line, got the touchdowns. Yeah, 184 yards passing.
42:28But over 20 fantasy points was a great week.
42:31I would feel far more confident with Mahomes returning.
42:34I mean, we've kind of just waited years of like, what is going on?
42:39Why? What happened? Like Mahomes is, it still looks like he's a great player.
42:44Matt Nagy. Matt Nagy and I mean, maybe we're oversimplifying things, but the Kenneth Walker addition is just so outrageous.
42:50So if you have to say yes or no, what is your answer?
42:55Jason said yes. What's my question? Is Patrick Mahomes back?
42:58Oh, I would say yes. All right. I would say no.
43:02Lane in Idaho. Hey guys, I've got a tough one for you.
43:06Would you rather have Javante Williams or Jeremiah Love for the rest of the season?
43:11Oh. I would probably take my shot on Jeremiah Love in that situation.
43:15Interesting. So I mean, this is literally, this is, this is talent versus opportunity.
43:20Javante will like the contract of Javante. The fact that Malik Davis who had been, it was being prepped to be the
43:27RB two got hurt right before the season started.
43:30It's Javante's backfield. What? So you, then how do we feel about does Jeremiah Love actually take over for the Cardinals?
43:37He'll get more and more work as the season goes along.
43:41That is just for sure. I mean, that happens for all of these rookie running backs, especially for, it happens for rookie running backs, not for the what?
43:50Number three overall pick. Yeah. He could be coming back from the ankle still.
43:55Yeah. That's a fair point. This is an easy Jeremiah Love for me.
43:59If I could trade Javante, if I have him in any league, I would go and offer him for love right now.
44:06And I would expect you're going to get that turned down.
44:10Yep. But it's definitely love. I was just looking at, I was so curious about the Matt Nagy years.
44:16Here's my home's fantasy finish. I know there's a lot more.
44:20There's Tyreek in here, but my home's like, I'm for it.
44:24Quarterback one, four, four, one gets Matt Nagy eight, 11, 11.
44:27Matt Nagy's gone. How many Super Bowls did they win in those years?
44:32Oh, that's fine. I mean, I don't, I don't give a crap about that.
44:36Yeah. We're not the Super Bowl lures. Well, I, yeah, I mean, it's no, I get it.
44:42I for fantasy purposes. I understand it, but winning like Matt Nagy should get credit for that part of the equation.
44:49Right. But now the they'll probably win with a lot of points.
44:53Yeah. They were winning before Matt Nagy with a lot of points.
44:57It's awesome. I'm going to bench Burrow for Shucks considering he has now outperformed and scored in two weeks in a row.
45:04Thanks. Oh man. Hi. Shuck versus Burrow this week.
45:07So Shuck gets the Las Vegas Raiders. Joe Burrow plays the Pittsburgh Steelers.
45:12Pittsburgh's been one of the best defenses so far in the league.
45:16And I mean, those AFC North matchups. They can get dirty.
45:19I have. But, but I think the Raiders defense is, is outstanding.
45:23If they're the number one defense, by the way, fantasy wise, the Raiders.
45:28Yeah. So, I mean, through two weeks. So I don't think either one is a cupcake.
45:33I like the fact that Shucks at home. I think in Pittsburgh is a challenge.
45:38I lean the Shucks side, man. That's so crazy.
45:41If you didn't give me the matchups, I'd say just stick with Burrow for more time.
45:46But I lean Shuck this week. I agree exactly what you're saying.
45:50And if obviously Burrow is better than Shuck the rest of the season, I would much rather have.
45:56Yeah. If you're playing matchups this week, I think you stay in the flames with Shuck leading the league in passing volume.
46:04The last time I think we saw Joe Burrow in Pittsburgh, he was the quarterback 18 through a touchdown.
46:10And Tyler Shuck is dominating every single start sick question on our website.
46:14So we have a good reason. Starts it to Tyler Shuck or Bryce Young, Tyler Shuck or Jared Goff, Tyler Shuck or
46:21Joe Burrow, Tyler Shuck or Drake May, Tyler Shuck or Jordan Love.
46:25Because you want to know whether you should stay in the flames or not.
46:30And, you know, it's been good for Tyler Shuck.
46:33The Baltimore game wasn't some like wild. I guess he had the rushing touchdown.
46:38Yes. Which was he had the rushing touch at the very end.
46:42Yeah. I mean, I was going to say it's been 23, 22 points.
46:46Would you play Tyler Shuck or Bryce Young right now?
46:49I mean, Bryce Young has scored more in both weeks.
46:53It's Cleveland, man. I probably would play Bryce Young this week.
46:56I told you I'm worried about Calvin Banks being out combined with Max Crosby this week.
47:02I don't blame you. So it's I mean, it's the Tyler Shuck went out there and it wasn't quite as strong this week.
47:09I would not be shocked. OK, so based on what you're saying, what we just said, and I I don't know if
47:17we're going to scrub the tape after this. We can do that.
47:21We have the podcast. Yeah, we can. Who knows what we're recording.
47:25What was just said was the order of starts should go.
47:28Oh, gosh. Yeah. You did. Bryce Young. Oh, man.
47:31Yeah. Tyler Shuck. Joe Burrow. Disgusting. I think. Do you have the.
47:35Make a note fortitude. Make a note right now.
47:38Of this moment. Clip it. And I want to come back next week and see if we were right or wrong with the final results.
47:47But yes, that is my final answer. Also, if we're wrong, please do not.
47:51Yeah. Well, I don't know about this. We stuff.
47:54Yeah. Oh, gosh. I said that you did. And you know what?
47:58If you're right that all the glory goes to you and you alone.
48:03Yeah, you're doing a high. I'm happy to do it for you.
48:07I want to say one more thing about Bryce Young.
48:10There is a chance that we have the magical equation in place with Carolina's defense not being good enough.
48:16Yeah. On a regular basis. Like part of what we want to see.
48:21I might have said places, right? No, you just went Southern for a little bit there.
48:26Bases. I do declare. I do declare. Bryce Young's defense is not very good.
48:31But the Panthers offense. It's it's magical. Like you play fast.
48:34You throw more than you're supposed to. And your defense is not that great.
48:39Cincinnati's defense has looked vastly improved. Yes. The Saints have a good defense as well.
48:44Their defense is much better than Carolina's. I have through two weeks.
48:48Like, like, do we think that Deshaun Watson can get some stuff done against Carolina this week?
48:54Probably. They can probably move the football against Carolina.
48:57So I from a game script perspective, the way that Cincinnati's defense has been playing in Pittsburgh's defense.
49:03What's the over under that game? I mean, that game's got to be like 40 points.
49:08That is. I mean, 40 and a half points.
49:11I bet. That's my guess. I don't know which game.
49:14Cincinnati Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh. We got and that's the 42 and a half.
49:19I'm seeing. Yeah. I mean, that's and what's that?
49:22What's the over under in the Carolina 42 and a half son of a gun.
49:27But here. Here's what I'll say. Son of a gun.
49:30Carolina. It's it's harder to buy in because we have we have the track record is.
49:35Oh, we don't have to persuade anybody to believe in Bryce Young for this year.
49:40Yes. It was like zero chance. Absolutely. Yes. The track record.
49:44I think might still be the position. The track record is why is he called a Sandman in our in our because
49:51he puts you to sleep because he's so boring.
49:54You can. That was Sandman. That was a throw away from years.
49:58I don't remember anything about who is Bryce Young on our site.
50:02Wow. Sandman. Sandman. I don't remember that. Delete it, Jason.
50:06I will delete that. You can take that out.
50:09So long as I can add Meowvin Harrison. Yes, please make that happen.
50:13Deal? Deal? One moment, please. Can I get the computer?
50:16The computer? Computer. That's it! No. What are you?
50:19What did you just do? What in God's name are you doing?
50:23I just tried to switch the page and hit the wrong one.
50:27Oh, okay. Okay. That wasn't like you thinking you were making an editorial change?
50:32Not at all. A decision? Okay, well the computer confirmed it so Meowson Harrison Jr.
50:37is there and there's no more Mr. Sandman. Here, let me get through this.
50:42Because the track record is not just non-existence where you're like, like with Tyler Shuck, he could be great.
50:48We just don't. He could be a boat. We don't know yet.
50:52Bryce Young's track record, awful. Awful. So this would be even more surprising.
50:56But this was the storm that made the Cincinnati Bengals and the Dallas Cowboys the best for fantasy football last year.
51:03High powered potent offense that has to throw all the time because their defense stinks.
51:08And if they really are going to trust Bryce Young, we all believe in Ted Arroa and McMillan.
51:14I didn't like him in the draft because I'm like, if Bryce Young's only going to throw for 200 yards a game.
51:22Yep. That was your argument. Then you're drafting him at his ceiling.
51:26I did not see this as a potential outcome for the Panthers.
51:30But maybe you want to like at least take some, put a couple chips into this and see what happens.
51:36I mean, right now, Atlanta's not winning this division.
51:39Correct. No way. Tampa doesn't look like it. Tampa sucks right now.
51:43I would still take the Saints to win. But those are the two teams.
51:48But fantasy purposes, we might, we might have a, that's what I'm saying.
51:52We might have some George Clooney, Marky Mark happening right now.
51:56This could be a perfect storm. Perfect storm. Yeah.
51:59Could be. Yeah. The movie's okay. So I like when he slinks into the shadows.
52:04Is this, is Hubbard someone that you should be trading for?
52:08Cause. Well, especially with, well, I don't know that you can now with Brooks out.
52:13He's going to catch the football. You can trade for Hubbard.
52:16I promise it's not untouchable. Yeah. No, but you, well, you trade Javante Williams.
52:21People might have Hubbard. Yes. Oh my gosh. Yeah.
52:24Would I trade Javante? I don't know if I do that.
52:28I don't know if I'd have the guts. That's that.
52:31I mean, I, that one is like, I don't think I would do it, but I can easily see the path for Hubbard being better.
52:39Maybe you could get he who dares wins. This guy back behind him right now.
52:44Yes. Yeah. And, uh, uh, would you rather have Chuba rest of season or Travion rest of season, Jason Travion.
52:51He said that very definitively. I still think Travion is going to be very good.
52:56It, he can whiff on a bunch of past plays.
52:59He can run for two yards of carry on 80% of his carries.
53:04And I think he has a fine fantasy season because he's going to break the podium.
53:09Not there. He wasn't really paying attention. His, uh, his, I don't know if he wasn't paying attention or he just didn't understand.
53:17I don't think he understood the question. Yeah. If you don't know what we're talking about, he had a, he had a moment.
53:24And Travion Henderson had a moment, uh, at a press conference where he was asked about like, well, it doesn't matter what he was asked about.
53:33He had no idea what was happening. He asked the guy like four times and was basically like, okay, uh, I don't know what you're saying.
53:42It is a dumb question. Uh, it was a dumb question.
53:45It's a dumber answer. I think, um, yeah, that those will be some interesting guys over the back half of the season.
53:53So, uh, AJ Dillon, to answer your question, uh, negative rushing yards last week.
53:57How many carries though? Three. Okay. Impressive. Total, total carries to have negative yards.
54:02Yeah. If you're on one carry. Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
54:05Three attempts and total. You went backwards. I've never doubted that AJ Dillon wants to do well.
54:11Oh yeah. I believe his heart is in the right place.
