Aaron Rodgers

NegativeBust44:42

Scott Turner is selling on the Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy reunion in Pittsburgh, citing concerns about Rodgers' age and recent performance post-Achilles injury, despite acknowledging McCarthy's history of successful offenses.

Insight page

Adonai Mitchell

PositiveBreakout48:43

Scott Turner believes Adonai Mitchell has number-one receiver ability and could take off this season as the team's second-most targeted player. Turner notes that Mitchell has shown flashes in practice and that improved quarterback play from Geno Smith could unlock his potential.

Insight page

Alec Pierce

NegativeInjury42:03

Scott Turner emphasizes that Alec Pierce's health is a major factor for the Colts' offense, as he has been a league leader in yards per catch over the last few years and is vital for their deep-ball and intermediate passing game.

Insight page

Breece Hall

NegativeUsage47:13

Scott Turner expects the Jets to utilize a "three-headed monster" approach in the backfield, which may limit Breece Hall's individual volume despite him remaining the primary ball carrier.

Insight page

Colston Loveland

PositiveBreakout43:56

Scott Turner projects Colston Loveland to have a breakout rookie season similar to Sam LaPorta's, citing the team's willingness to feed him the ball down the stretch and his high-end talent.

Insight page

D.J. Moore

PositiveValue38:02

Moore is a smooth runner with deceptive speed and elite run-after-catch ability; he may be the best wide receiver Josh Allen has played with, and he is already familiar with Joe Brady's system.

Insight page
PositiveRole38:22

Scott Turner expects DJ Moore to be highly successful in the Bills' offense, noting his run-after-catch ability and familiarity with the system from his time in Carolina. Turner anticipates the team will design plays to get the ball in his hands, similar to Stefon Diggs' initial impact in Buffalo, and expects him to be a key target for Josh Allen, especially when plays break down.

Insight page

Darren Waller

NegativeValue8:12

Scott Turner views the signing as a wait-and-see situation, noting significant injury concerns regarding soft tissue issues as Waller ages. While acknowledging his red-zone utility, Turner expects minimal fantasy impact, projecting him in the 20-ish range for tight ends.

Insight page

David Njoku

NegativeRole25:13

Njoku is viewed as an unbelievable blocker who fits what Mike McDaniel likes to do, though the team may still lean toward 11 personnel.

Insight page

Derrick Henry

PositiveProjection30:41

Henry is a top-10 running back who will be a focal point of the Ravens' offense; it is difficult to bet against his production.

Insight page

DeVonta Smith

PositiveProjection13:54

Matthew Berry is high on Devonta Smith, ranking him as his WR12 and suggesting he might even be ranked too low given the expectation that the Eagles will feed him targets following the departure of A.J. Brown.

Insight page

DK Metcalf

PositiveUsage45:44

Matthew Berry ranks DK Metcalf as his WR36, noting that the offense's tendency toward short, "dink and dunk" passing under Aaron Rodgers, combined with increased target competition, limits Metcalf's fantasy upside.

Insight page

Dontayvion Wicks

PositiveSleeper14:38

Matthew Berry identifies Dontayvion Wicks as a late-round flyer, citing his talent and familiarity with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Berry believes Wicks deserved more playing time in Green Bay and could be a valuable asset in Philadelphia.

Insight page

Garrett Wilson

PositiveUsage47:52

Scott Turner identifies Garrett Wilson as the Jets' clear best player and expects the team to force-feed him targets. Turner believes Geno Smith's presence will lead to more downfield opportunities where Wilson excels at separation and ball tracking.

Insight page

Ja'Tavion Sanders

NegativeDepth Chart8:33

Scott Turner suggests the addition of Darren Waller reflects the Panthers' internal feelings about Jatavion Sanders, implying the team felt a need to add another receiving tight end to the roster.

Insight page

Jacory Croskey-Merritt

PositiveSleeper17:51

Matthew Berry ranks Ja'Cory Croskey-Merritt as his RB38 but notes that his ADP could rise as camp progresses due to chatter that he is emerging as the primary running back for the Commanders.

Insight page

Jahmyr Gibbs

PositiveUsage34:32

Gibbs is expected to receive a ton of touches in the Lions' offense under Drew Petzing, maintaining his status as a top-tier fantasy asset.

Insight page

Jalen Hurts

NegativeUsage12:10

Scott Turner highlights a major transition for Jalen Hurts, who has played his career in shotgun, as he adapts to playing under center in the new offense. This shift requires turning his back to the defense on play-action, a skill set Turner notes is not Hurts' primary strength, though he expects a merge of his past successful shotgun concepts with the new scheme.

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

PositiveProjection15:43

Scott Turner expects Jayden Daniels to have a bounce-back season provided he stays healthy, regardless of the offensive coordinator. Turner notes that the team is implementing a system focused on under-center play and play-action to protect Daniels and create explosive plays.

Insight page
PositiveUsage20:35

Daniels helps the pass rush immensely because defenses must rush him differently to maintain contain, fearing his explosive scramble ability.

Insight page

Josh Allen

PositiveProjection40:41

Matthew Berry ranks Josh Allen as his number one quarterback, noting that while the Bills' tendency to spread the ball around might cap individual upside for receivers, the overall offensive outlook remains very positive for Allen.

Insight page

Justin Herbert

PositiveProjection24:26

Herbert is expected to have a career year under Mike McDaniel, who has a track record of creating high-level offenses even without a quarterback as talented as Herbert.

Insight page

Khalil Shakir

NegativeUsage40:57

Matthew Berry notes that Khalil Shakir was the only Buffalo wide receiver to reach at least 60 targets last season, highlighting the team's tendency to spread the ball around among multiple pass-catchers.

Insight page

Ladd McConkey

PositiveProjection23:56

McConkey is expected to have an outstanding year as a key target in Mike McDaniel's Chargers offense, which prioritizes yards after catch.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

PositiveProjection28:23

Jackson is expected to be successful regardless of the play-caller, with the new coaching staff providing a needed 'shot in the arm' for the Ravens offense.

Insight page

Makai Lemon

NegativeProjection14:10

Matthew Berry ranks the rookie Makai Lemon as his WR40, noting that he has been banged up during camp and will likely be utilized in the middle of the field, an area where Jalen Hurts has historically been less comfortable throwing.

Insight page

Mark Andrews

NegativeProjection30:57

Andrews is viewed as a touchdown-dependent, mid-tier TE2 in the current Ravens offense.

Insight page

Quentin Johnston

NegativeUsage24:59

Johnston is part of a fuzzy depth chart behind McConkey; he will likely have 'pop weeks' but consistent fantasy production remains to be seen.

Insight page

Sam LaPorta

NegativeProjection36:56

LaPorta is ranked as the TE6 but sits in a tier below the elite options, as the Lions have too many mouths to feed to guarantee the massive target share seen by other tight ends.

Insight page

Stefon Diggs

PositiveRole16:37

Scott Turner believes the addition of Stefon Diggs to play opposite Terry McLaurin is huge for the Commanders. Turner praises Diggs' leadership, intensity, and ability to set the tone for the offense.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

NegativeProjection30:54

Flowers is a mid-tier WR2 with weekly upside, but his touchdown equity is capped by the team's reliance on Henry in the red zone and other targets like Andrews.

0:00All right, it is noon on YouTube, but you know what?
0:03It is 5 o'clock somewhere, so the bar is open.
0:06Welcome to Fantasy Football Happy Hour. My name is Matthew Berry, your faithful bartender here.
0:10And we have got, I say this every day, but truly today, we have got a great show.
0:15I've always, I've tried with this show, with a new version of this show, if you will, to try to bring some,
0:21you know, some different guests and some people that maybe don't necessarily always get on Fantasy Podcast to try to bring different perspectives.
0:28Seems like the feedback's been pretty good. You guys have enjoyed the different guests each day, and you know, we'll see some,
0:34you know, you'll see some repeats and everything like that.
0:37But making his Fantasy Football Happy Hour debut is my friend, former offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders, former offensive coordinator of
0:43the Las Vegas Raiders, longtime NFL coach, my friend Scott Turner.
0:46Scott, thank you so much for joining us here.
0:49I'm going to say this, because you are too nice to say this, so I'm going to say this, you would never say this publicly.
0:56You don't have to react to anything I'm going to say.
0:59I'm not going to ask you for comment. But I'm just going to say this, as a longtime diehard Washington Commanders fan,
1:05I thought Ron Rivera threw you under the bus so hard, and you got so screwed by your time in Washington.
1:11You did such a good job with what little the organization, and really Ron, gave you to work with.
1:16You were out there with Taylor Heinicke, and that was like the best quarterback you had to work with over your time in Washington.
1:23I always give this stat. There's a lot of terrible Ron Rivera head coach in charge of personnel stats you can give.
1:29But my favorite is this, is that when Ron Rivera took over the Washington Commanders, they had the second overall pick in the NFL draft, took Chase Young.
1:37And then four years later, when Ron Rivera left, the Commanders had the second overall pick in the NFL draft.
1:43In fairness to Ron, he understood the assignment on the way out because he got us Jaden Daniels.
1:48We have faith in five. But the fact of the matter is, Scott Turner, I'll never forget the Monday night game against
1:54an undefeated Philadelphia Eagles team where we had no chance.
1:57The Commanders had no chance at all. But you had a, it was a master class in play calling, what you did,
2:03and the Commanders upset and were the first team to beat the Eagles that year.
2:07Unbelievable. Anyway, I'm thrilled, absolutely thrilled to have you on the show, my friend.
2:11Well, I appreciate you saying that. I'm happy to be on.
2:15Definitely had some ups and downs those three years in Washington.
2:18It was a great time. I wish I could have been there a little bit longer, but I appreciate all the nice words.
2:24Well, listen, you know, the only reason you weren't there longer is because Ron needed somebody to throw under the bus.
2:30He needed a scapegoat for his own failures. So, but anyway, Washington's loss is our gain here at the happy hour.
2:36Among the things you're going to be doing this year, I just want to announce this, is you will be contributing to our coverage at FantasyLife.com.
2:43You're going to be doing a couple of shows during the week with me.
2:47You're going to appear on our SiriusXM show. We have a Monday through Friday show from 11 to 1 Eastern on SiriusXM,
2:53on Fantasy Sports Radio, on SiriusXM, the Fantasy Life show.
2:56You'll be appearing weekly on that, and we're going to get a column out of you.
3:01We're going to get a weekly preview, all the things that you're seeing on tape, and breaking down the players and the
3:07plays from a fantasy football perspective, from your perspective as you break down the tape every single week.
3:12So that column will be up on FantasyLife.com as well.
3:15So we're thrilled to have you as part of the coverage, Scott.
3:18Thank you so much. Yeah, no, I'm looking forward to doing it.
3:22Obviously been a part of, you know, football my entire life, and I've been coaching, and this is my first year, you
3:28know, not working, I guess you'd say. So just looking for something to do.
3:32I'm going to be watching every single game. I'm going to be watching all the coaches' copies.
3:37So just have conversations about it and try to share my insight, you know, something that I'm really going to look forward to and enjoy doing.
3:44Well, your father, of course, is Norv Turner, the legendary head coach and offense coordinator Norv Turner.
3:49And so you've grown up around football. It's not like just something you, like this has been your entire, entire life.
3:55So I'm proud of it. The group, the regulars are pointing out, as Martin's World is saying, like you have a full head of hair.
4:02So it's a nice contrast to myself and some of the other guests we've had on the show.
4:07So congratulations on those throwing locks. I'm looking at these comments down here, and these people are hard on you, man.
4:13Yeah. These are the regulars, Scott. These are the regulars.
4:16These are the regulars. It's all good. But it's the best fan base in football.
4:20I'm very lucky to have them. So this was one that came out of the blue.
4:24And let's start with sort of before we get into some of the coaching changes, I want to get your impressions on
4:30what some of the coaching changes will mean for a lot of the offenses.
4:34I know you've already been to a lot of the camps.
4:38I know you're going to go to more. You know, you've grown up around the NFL.
4:42You've been on a lot of staffs. You know a lot of people in the league.
4:47But before we get to that, a little bit of news where one of my favorite players ever in the NFL, Darren
4:53Waller, is coming back, and he's signed with the Carolina Panthers.
4:56Last year, tight in 17 on a points-per-game basis.
4:58He played nine games with the Dolphins. Six touchdowns in nine games.
5:02Still a red zone threat. I'm curious your thoughts on how Waller fits into this Panthers offense and what Dave Canales is trying to do with Carolina.
5:09Yeah, I think it's interesting. I think, you know, honestly, I think this signing, the first thing I thought of is it's
5:16really kind of a reflection of, you know, how they feel about Jatavion Sanders.
5:20You know, they drafted him, you know, I don't remember, it was two or three years ago.
5:24And, you know, he was a receiving tight end.
5:27And, you know, they're looking to add another receiving tight end.
5:30So that kind of made me think about that a little bit.
5:33You know, I think Waller, he was in our division last year.
5:37I think he was in our division last year with the Dolphins.
5:40You know, I was with the Jets. And, you know, he had the one game, I think he had three touchdowns.
5:46And then he'll kind of disappear from time to time.
5:49I think there's a big injury concern with him as he gets older.
5:53You know, bigger guy. The soft tissue injuries have been an issue, especially last year.
5:57I don't know how big of an impact this is going to necessarily make.
6:01I'm sorry to say this. You said he's one of your favorite players.
6:04But to me, I think this is a wait and see situation.
6:08You know, he's a guy that's been successful in the league, obviously has a lot of size and can play well in the red zone.
6:15And, you know, this part of camp trying to see what he's got left.
6:19And then you kind of see from there. Yeah, listen, I don't disagree as Stuntman Chuck says Darren Waller shot caller.
6:25No question. Look, he's one of my favorite players in the NFL, but it doesn't mean he's necessarily going to have a huge fantasy impact.
6:32He'll be somewhere in the, you know, in the 20-ish range.
6:35I agree with you. I mean, look, Jatavian Sanders, Mitchell Evans, Tommy Trumbull, they clearly have a need at the position.
6:41They don't really feel great about their depth at just pass catcher beyond Ted Arroa, McMillan, and Jalen Coker, Cokeheads Unite.
6:47So, you know, they've had some injuries at the pass catcher.
6:50Obviously, they haven't gotten the production under Xavier Leggett that they want.
6:53So, you know, I think this is a depth signing and not a bad one for Carolina and for Bryce Young.
6:59But in terms of the fantasy impact, I think it's minimal there as well.
7:03Let's move on to some of the coaches. And, look, you know, you were in the NFC East for a number of years.
7:10So let's start with the Eagles. Former quarterback Sean Mannion, former Green Bay passing game coordinator Sean Mannion, is now running the Eagles offense.
7:16How do you think Philadelphia looks under Sean Mannion?
7:19I think this one's really interesting. You know, obviously we'll get to – I think we'll probably get to Washington later because
7:25that's the other two that I really am intrigued by.
7:28Because for the one reason, you're taking a quarterback that's really played his entire career in shotgun.
7:33He's a shotgun quarterback, you know, in Jalen Hurts.
7:35And now you're going to try to play under center.
7:38And, you know, I think when people look at that, they immediately think, oh, taking the snap.
7:43And these guys are great athletes. They can take a snap from center.
7:47But, you know, when you merge the run in the pass from an under center standpoint, the play action comes with now
7:53the quarterback is doing a lot of turning his back to the defense.
7:56And that's something that, you know, Jalen Hurts just does not have a ton of experience doing.
8:01So, that's the big question mark as far as how he's going to be able to play in that – now he looks great.
8:08I mean, everyone knows he's a workout warrior. He's lost a lot of weight.
8:12Like, that part of it is good. You know, there's a lot of passing game in the middle of the field, which,
8:18again, just being honest, hasn't been his strength over the course of his career.
8:22You know, they've been a run-the-ball team. And when you run the ball, the defense, you know, you force them to play
8:28single high, and that creates one-on-ones on the outside.
8:31And he's taking advantage of that with two really good receivers.
8:34Now A.J. Brown's gone. They're going to feed Devontae Smith.
8:37I'm a big fan of the rookie from USC.
8:39But, again, he's a rookie. I see he's been banged up a little bit too.
8:44So, I think just – and Sean Mannion is a smart guy.
8:47I don't think he's just going to go fully a totally different direction.
8:51I think you're going to still see some shotgun with Jalen Hurts.
8:54You're going to see some of the things that he's done over the course of his career that's gotten him to, you
9:00know, gotten them to two Super Bowls. So, there's going to be a merge of that.
9:05And I think that it's really going to be interesting to see kind of what that offense looks like, you know, when you kick off the regular season.
9:13Scott, my theory, though, is that just at a very simple level, I remember one time – I remember one time when
9:19Doug Peterson got hired as the Eagles head coach.
9:21So, this is years and years ago. And I'm talking with an Eagles player at the time.
9:26This was in the preseason. I said, so, hey, are they going to be run heavy?
9:31What do you think Doug Peterson is going to do?
9:33And the guy just turned to me. He goes, you know Doug Peterson was a former NFL quarterback, right?
9:39And I go, yeah, yeah, yeah. He goes, what do you think a former NFL quarterback is going to call?
9:44I'm like, all right, yeah, good point. All right, you're going to throw.
9:48So, I mean, I just sort of feel like, again, and I should clarify, I said passing game coordinator, he was a
9:54quarterback coach and offensive assistant, Sean Mannion, in Green Bay.
9:57But, again, I just sort of – to your point about him being a smart guy, you know, and I'm curious from
10:03an offense coordinator point of view as somebody that, you know, been in different situations, this is my theory.
10:09Tell me if I'm wrong on this one. But that Sean Mannion's sitting here, he's got this opportunity, right?
10:14He's coming into a team that, you know, has legitimate Super Bowl opportunity, right?
10:18And what's the word I'm looking for? God, I'm losing my brain.
10:21They have Super Bowl aspirations. Thank you, God. Anyway, so he's coming to a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations and talent around him.
10:28And he's sitting there going, wow, like the guy before me just got fired, right?
10:32And they've fired, like, two coordinators in the last three years.
10:35And all those guys basically ran the ball a lot.
10:38Huh. Maybe if I'm coming here, I should probably not do what the guy that got fired did.
10:43Like, does that work in your mind a little bit?
10:46That I feel like, again, former NFL quarterback, you know, guy that was part of the passing game in Green Bay, and
10:52the guy before him, you know, they ran the ball.
10:55It was one of the run-heaviest teams in the NFL last year.
10:59I feel like Sean Mannion – if nothing else, just basic human nature, Sean's like, we're going to throw the ball a little bit more.
11:06And as you mentioned, they're going to be under center more, and they're going to try to feature more motion and play action.
11:12But does that – does the human element of, like, hey, I want to make sure I do a good job, I
11:18want to make sure I – does that come into, you know, when guys take jobs in the league?
11:24I mean, I think there's a little bit of that.
11:27I think really ultimately you're evaluating your personnel, and you're going to look and say, all right, what do these guys do well?
11:33Well, you know, there's a bunch of stats about throwing the ball and throwing the ball on first and second down and how that leads to success.
11:41I think if you look back at the Eagles offense in 2022 when Shane Steichen was there, they were the – they
11:47threw the ball more often than any other team in the league in the first half.
11:51And then – but for the season, they were like the third highest – like overall, they were like the third highest
11:58run offense percentage in the league because you throw to score and then you run to win.
12:02You know what I mean? You throw to get the lead, and then you try to shorten the game and choke the
12:09other team out by keeping it out of their hands.
12:11And that's what – and Kellen did that too, not to the same extent that Shane did, but, you know, they had
12:18the balance there with the – again. And that's what the whole LeFleur, Green Bay, Kyle Shanahan offense, Ben – I mean,
12:24it's a different scheme, Ben Johnson scheme. But the thought process and the belief, if you boil it down with those offenses,
12:30create explosive plays and play action in the pass game and then run the ball and then be able to run the ball effectively.
12:37Like that's what those teams want to do. They don't want to play in third down.
12:41They don't want to – you know, they don't – they want to skip third down altogether by getting first downs on first and second down.
12:49And that's where they've been successful doing it. So that's what they're going to try to do.
12:53And that's where my – but my question mark is – my thing I want to see it is like Jalen Hurts
13:00hasn't had a lot of experience in the, you know, the naked game, the hard play action run sell from under center
13:06where, again, you're turning your back to the defense and you've got to flip your hips and find the picture.
13:11Now, he's run those concepts, but a lot of it has been from gun.
13:15Again, they've run play action out of gun and it's been effective with Jalen because his threat as a runner as well.
13:22So, again, I think there's going to be a merge of kind of what Jalen's done successfully in the past and then
13:28what, you know, Sean Mannion knows from his time with LaFleur.
13:31Yeah, I agree with you. So you see the ranks there on the screen.
13:35I mean, look, I'm big on a Jalen Hurts bounce back.
13:38I'm at QB5. I think Barkley, I think he's closer to 2024 than 2025.
13:42I'm at RB8. Devontae Smith, everyone knows I'm all in on Devontae Smith this year as my wide receiver 12 and I might be too low on him.
13:50You mentioned Makai Lemon, the rookie. He's wide receiver 40 for me.
13:53Goddard is a high-end tight end too, but I do think overall the offense can be pretty good.
13:58And one of the things that helps when you're under center and you're turning your back to the defense to your point,
14:04turning around, looking, having to look at the middle of the field, it helps when you have an awesome offensive line.
14:10And that's one of the things that's been a hallmark of Jalen Hurts' career in the NFL.
14:15And the critics of Jalen Hurts is like, ah, he's got all day to throw.
14:19And whether that's, you know, whether it would be, he would be as effective behind a different offensive line, the fact of
14:26the matter is he's behind Philly's offensive line and he's going to have a long time to throw.
14:31They're fully healthy this year. I'll also say that I just kind of like, before we move off to Philadelphia, I kind of like Dontavian Wicks.
14:38Like, I know everyone's excited about Makai Lemon and they use obviously a lot of draft capital here, but Dontavian Wicks is
14:44somebody that I always felt like deserved more run in Green Bay than he ever got.
14:49I think he's a talented wide receiver. And then coming over to Philadelphia, obviously familiarity with Sean Mannion.
14:54You know, Makai Lemon's still the rookie, to your point, and they'll probably use him more in the middle of the field,
15:00which is not an area that Jalen Hurts loves to throw to.
15:03So just at the very end of your drafts, I just, I don't know.
15:07I think there's something there with Dontavian Wicks. I could be crazy on it, but I kind of like him as a late round flyer, Scott.
15:15I can see that. And he, you know, he's going to have some familiarity with what, you know, what Sean Mannion's going
15:21to be doing, the offense that he's putting in.
15:23So you referenced this earlier in the show. So let's just go right there.
15:27My team, my beloved commanders, new seat, Cliff Kingsbury, no longer the coordinator now.
15:31David Blau, another former NFL quarterback, David Blau, is going to be calling the plays in Washington.
15:36Do you expect Jaden Daniels to have a bounce back season under David Blau?
15:40What do we think about this commander's offense under Blau?
15:43So I think Jaden Daniels is going to have a bounce back season as long as he stays healthy.
15:48And I don't think it matters who the offensive coordinator is.
15:51I think he's a really good player and he's going to go out there and play well as long as he's, you know, like he's available.
15:59I think it's the same thing we just talked about as far as it's a brand new offensive coordinator.
16:04Now he's running, he's going to run the Ben Johnson, you know, Detroit, whatever you want to call it system.
16:10That's what, you know, that's what he's been around.
16:12That's what they hired him because they want to run that system.
16:16It's going to be under center, you know, wide zone, hard play action.
16:19And like I said, they're going to try to create explosives in the past game and they want to run the ball effectively.
16:26Jaden Daniels is another guy. He had, he's been a shotgun quarterback his whole life.
16:30So how are they going to merge those two systems is going to be, you know, you're going to, it's going to be interesting to see that.
16:38I think that Stefan Diggs getting him there opposite of Terry is huge.
16:41You know, again, people are going to knock Stefan and I know he has some off the field issues, but as far
16:48as a leader and like someone that's going to, you know, kind of bring the intensity and set the tone every day.
16:54There hasn't, I've been around much better than, than Stefan.
16:57So I think that's going to help them offensively just with an effort from an attitude and intangible standpoint.
17:02Um, and then, yeah, you know, it's interesting. And I've, I've talked about this offense quite a bit, uh, because everyone talks
17:08about, you know, they want to run the ball.
17:11Well, they were, they were the third ranked rushing offense in the NFL last year.
17:15So it's not like Cliff wasn't running the ball, but you know, they want to protect Jaden Daniels.
17:20They want to play more under center. And I just think it's going to be interesting to see, uh, you know, how that plays itself out.
17:27And then it's always interesting with a first time, uh, first time coordinator.
17:31Uh, there's, there's, uh, there's no question about that.
17:34I mean, I have Jaden, I'm listen, I'm a homer for Jaden, obviously faith in five, but I haven't QB five, uh, this year.
17:40I do think he'll have a, uh, a good year.
17:43Be interesting to see what happens with the run game to your point, because it is the Ben Johnson system.
17:49You want to run to set up play action.
17:51Um, and so, you know, you know, Ja'Cory Krosky Merritt, who's I am at running back 38, but I could see bill,
17:57you know, rising up sort of the, the ADP as we get closer to camp.
18:02Because there's some, there's some chatter that he is sort of emerging as, um, as the guy is, uh, DM Jesus says, uh, Jaden, cease and desist Daniels.
18:10Listen, I'm, uh, I'm team Jaden on that one.
18:12I'm team Jaden. Listen, he's one of the greatest players in LSU history.
18:16Don't let somebody else have five. I'm with him.
18:18I, I, you know, I'm team Jaden on that one.
18:21I'll just say that. Uh, but, uh, look, you know, I think it's, uh, in terms of fantasy production, Daniels, as long
18:27as he stays healthy, he's always going to have a good year.
18:31I do think JCM is kind of interesting as a, uh, as a running back sleeper.
18:35I have McLaurin at running wide receiver 25. I have digs inside my top 40.
18:40I like, I like the Chigakonkwo signing quite a bit as well, but this is a good question from, uh, Malik YT.
18:46Are we worried about the commander's offense with the Laramie Tunsil injury?
18:49That worries me. So I'm curious, Scott, when you see a significant injury, like Tunsil's one of the best in the NFL
18:55when you, when you, I think it's the torn biceps, right?
18:58Um, or triceps. Yeah, it's the tricep. I, you know, I don't, I don't have either.
19:03I have, I have a one-sep. You know, he's got biceps.
19:06He's got triceps. I've got a one-sep. Um, but, uh, either way, he's going to miss significant time.
19:11What does that do to an offense when you lose a player of Tunsil's caliber just in general and then specifically to the commanders?
19:18It's a good question. You know, as a coach, when you, when you game plan, like as offensive coach, the first thing
19:24you do is you look at, all right, who are the guys that can absolutely wreck the game?
19:29Um, if we don't account for them and, and most of the time it's your edge rushers, right?
19:34Like your edge rushers. Sometimes there'll be a three technique, uh, but when you have a left tackle, the caliber of Tunsil,
19:40you know, he can kind of cancel that out.
19:43So like whether, you know, it's not like you're never going to help them.
19:47It's not like everybody's like, all right, go block miles Garrett one-on-one for however many dropbacks.
19:51But, you know, a lot of times you feel better about leaving that guy on an island by himself.
19:57And so now instead of having to chip both sides, you know, you got your, your tight end on the right.
20:03Um, he's you're, you're chipping the right. Um, you're helping the right tackle before he gets out on his check down or the back, whatever that is.
20:10Uh, but now, you know, when you're, if you have question marks at both tackles or you don't feel like you have that guy.
20:17Um, now, now you just have to account for both edges.
20:20Um, which is what, you know, most of the 20, 23 out of the 32 teams have to do, if not more every week.
20:27Anyways, uh, the only thing I'll say is, you know, for the commanders fans is to not totally panic is Brandon Coleman was your left tackle in 2024.
20:35And you went to the NFC championship game and where the quarterback like Jaden Daniels, like he, he helps the pass rush immensely because people rush him differently.
20:43Cause they know if they lose contain, you know, that could be explosive play just based off the scramble alone, you know?
20:49So, um, it's not like, it's not a huge loss.
20:52Of course it is. Uh, but they've played without them.
20:55Um, and it's just something that they're going to have to be, uh, you know, their account for and be aware of, uh, every, every single week.
21:02Uh, so, and I'm, I'm sure they will, but, uh, I'm excited to see what, um, this is Brian Hickman says, if
21:08you have a tricep near a bicep, does that mean you have a septet, sept, sept, sept, hashtag Matt.
21:14Interesting. It's a good question, Brian. Um, I'm going to ponder that, but I, you know, um, it's so funny and I'm
21:20sure Scott, you, you knew this, um, cause you and I have known each other for a long time.
21:25Um, but, uh, did you see the, uh, the quote from Mike McDaniel the other day?
21:30He was on the podium and somebody asked him about Amari and Hampton, if he could be a workhorse running back.
21:36And he just laughed. McDaniel said, and that sounds like a fantasy question.
21:39Um, uh, when you were doing press conferences, like, and you would get those questions where you'd be in the back of your mind.
21:46Like, I bet you that's a fantasy question. Uh, yeah, sometime.
21:49I mean, yeah, of course. I mean, you know, you know, you know, the audience and, and, you know, fancy football is huge.
21:56And I don't, I have not, I mean, I'm doing this show.
21:59I always thought it was great. It brings more eyes to the game and everyone loves football.
22:04And, um, you know, some people maybe take it a little bit too far with the hateful comments, but I mean, I
22:10think it's just another, another great part about, uh, the game we all love.
22:14Yeah. I mean, look, um, uh, there, there's, there's, but it's not just, you know, 5% of the fantasy fans that are like, you know, a-holes.
22:21Like it's, you know, I'm wearing this Bama shirt, you know, 5% of Bama fans, 5% of any SEC fans or Big
22:28Ten fan base or like pick a college. I mean, you know, there's always 5% of any- I think you're being nice with the 5% too.
22:35I think it might be a little more than five.
22:38Might be a little higher. It's just the overall population, right?
22:41Whatever that percentage is, just that no matter what their interest is, they're not gonna, they're not gonna necessarily be happy.
22:47Yeah. Not play nice. Um, yeah, it depends on, I suppose, what message board you want or onto.
22:52But, um, but let's stay in, uh, let's stay with the Chargers.
22:55What does this offense look like? I think so many in the fantasy industry are so excited about Mike McDaniel, who we
23:02have tremendous respect for as a play caller, going to the Chargers who have a lot of, a lot of talent around them.
23:08What do you think this Chargers offense looks like under Mike McDaniel?
23:11What's his effect? It starts with the quarterback, obviously.
23:14Like you talk about the talent, like he's such a good player.
23:17Um, I know that I, I'm on, um, X enough for Twitter enough to know that there's, you know, there's a lot
23:24of, you know, back and forth on, on him.
23:26And, you know, obviously hasn't won anything, but everyone, you know, can, can see the ability.
23:31Uh, I think Mike's going to do a really good job there.
23:34Um, he always does a great job of manufacturing run game, whether it's with the toss cracks or the, um, the wide
23:40zone, the inside zone gap schemes, um, you know, uses a lot of motion to try to dictate and get the, the,
23:46the defensive, you know, support out of place. Um, and he's going to continue to do that.
23:51So, you know, that back is going to have a great year and, and, you know, I think that, uh, McConkie, they're
23:57going to get the ball to McConkie. And then I, my, my biggest thing is who, who else is going to get
24:04like, they don't, it's not necessarily like a Tyree kill Jalen Waddell situation.
24:07Like where, where's the, where is the rest of the production, uh, production going to come, come from, is it going to be spread out?
24:14You know, they have a couple of guys you could look at that could take, you know, take those spots, but I
24:21think Hampton and McConkie are going to have outstanding years as long as well as, uh, Justin Herbert.
24:26Yeah. I mean, I've heard of QB eight. I've Hampton at running back 11.
24:30I'm a concrete wide receiver 20. So I'm with you.
24:32I think all are locked in fantasy starters. All should have, I think career years this year.
24:37You think about McDaniels tenure when he was a head coach in Miami, uh, those three years, the dolphins were always top
24:4310 in yards after catch per reception. So to your point about creating space, um, and, uh, getting guys in a position
24:50to take the ball, uh, and, you know, manufacture yards after that.
24:53I've Quentin Johnson at 41. I'm with you. I think after McConkie, it gets a little bit fuzzy, right?
24:58So, um, I have, you know, so QJ's there.
25:01I think you'll see some Trey Harris be interesting to see what they do at the tight end position, right?
25:06Because a Rondi Gadsden had a really nice year last year, but then they, they bring in David Njoku, who's an unbelievable blocker.
25:13In addition to being obviously just a great all-around tight end, Charlie Kohler, who's a great blocking tight end.
25:18We know that, um, I think you probably, do you think you see more 12 personnel than we've seen from a McDaniel offense?
25:25Just knowing Harbaugh's tendencies and thinking about looking at that roster?
25:28Uh, potentially, I think, um, I do think that, uh, Joku, um, you know, kind of fits what Mike likes to do.
25:34I mean, obviously when he was in San Francisco, they featured Kittle.
25:38So it's not like he hasn't been in a, but Kittle has always been a guy that's a true tight end where
25:44Gadsden is really more of a big receiver. If you want to be totally honest about it.
25:49Yep. Um, now will they be, do some 12 personnel with Gadsden where he, maybe he split out a little bit potentially,
25:55but I can still see it being more 11 with Harris and Johnson, um, on the field.
26:00And, and, uh, you know, that, that's my biggest thing is like, is it going to be Harris?
26:05Is it going to be Johnson? Which one of those guys, you know, cause is good.
26:09Cause like you have him as 41 and again, I don't really know the rankings, but he could be higher than that.
26:15Like he could be more productive than that, or he could be lower and Harris can be, cause there's going to be a third player.
26:22You know, that's going to be productive. It's just with Mike and how, you know, I got a lot of respect for
26:29him and, and his, he's got the, the track record of, you know, creating, um, high level offenses with again, you know,
26:35no offensive to a, but with, without a quarterback as talented as, as Justin Herbert.
26:39Uh, there's no question. Um, H grob asks, is Mike McDaniel, the best offensive mind on the chargers since Norv Turner?
26:45Uh, yeah, I guess so. You know what I mean?
26:48Well, no, I don't know. I can't say that because Shane Steichen was there and, uh, Shane's done a pretty, pretty good job also.
26:55So, um, you know, Shane was there for the, for the year as a coordinator and, um, he's a good friend of mine too.
27:01So I, I'll say, uh, I say since, since Shane.
27:04All right. There you go. All right. Fair enough.
27:07Fair enough. Fair enough. Yeah. Your dad's not watching this.
27:09It's fine. We won't tell him. He might be.
27:12I sent him the link. So we'll see. He might be.
27:15All right. Well, shout out Norv, the legend, if he is in fact watching.
27:19Um, but yeah, I mean, listen, welcome to our world in terms of trying to figure out what that, you know, to your point about that third person.
27:27And so I do think there'll be, if you're in basketball, I think, you know, the QJ, uh, Gadsden, you know, Quentin
27:33Johnson, uh, Trey Harris, any of those are, you know, fine.
27:36Cause I think you'll, they'll have pop weeks, but I think consistent fantasy production until we see it.
27:41And we, and we talked yesterday about Keaton Mitchell, who's another guy, another, you know, toy for, um, uh, McDaniel to play with.
27:48But, uh, you know, I think, I think for our purposes, you can really count on, uh, McConkie and Amari and Hampton in addition to the quarterback.
27:55Let's move over to Baltimore. You know, so much discussion, obviously John Harbaugh for, for years and years and years in Baltimore,
28:02no longer there, goes to New York, new head coach, defensive minded head coach in Jesse Minter, uh, running the Ravens.
28:08And so Declan Doyle is going to be calling the plays first time he's ever called the plays.
28:13And, you know, if you're going to call the plays, if you're going to call plays for the first time in your
28:19life, having Lamar Jackson under center is a, uh, is a pretty good place to start.
28:23What do you think Baltimore's offense looks like under Declan Doyle?
28:26You know what? Uh, I'm, I'm really, I'm really high on Lamar.
28:30I always have been, I know everyone, you know, is, but I may be even higher than, than most.
28:35Uh, I think that this is exactly what this team needed kind of a, kind of a recharge.
28:40I think that, uh, you know, obviously John Harbaugh has had a lot of success there, but I think things have potentially gotten a little stale over time.
28:48Um, and I think this, the new leadership, especially the youthful leadership, um, of the Jesse Minter and then, uh, Declan Doyle,
28:54I think this is kind of the shot in the arm that that team needs.
28:59So, um, you know, Lamar, um, again, I think no matter who's calling the plays, Lamar is going to be successful.
29:05Uh, but just having a system, um, that, you know, that I know that, that they believe in and, you know, all
29:11the reports out of there, you read all the quotes and, you know, there's some, seems like there's some true excitement from
29:17the players, just from the relationships that are being built with the coaching staff.
29:21And, uh, is this going to be another Ben Johnson offense?
29:24Like we're, we're talking about David Blouse. This is Ben, this is Ben all the way.
29:29I mean, it's going to be a mix of Ben and Sean Payton.
29:32Obviously Declan Doyle was with Sean Payton, um, in Denver.
29:35And then he was with the, um, and then he was with Ben.
29:39Um, you know, I don't know what their terminology is, but I'm sure it's a merge of those two systems, but it's
29:45going to be, you know, they're going to be play action.
29:48Uh, they're going to run the football, um, and they're going to play to Lamar strength.
29:53I mean, I've heard that, uh, I've heard that Declan, and Doyle, uh, nothing but good things about him as far as
29:59just his ability to relate to people, his organizational skills.
30:02Um, so I'm excited to see kind of what this looks like.
30:05Um, and then again, like I said, we got a player like Lamar's, um, with his abilities, like he's going to make it work.
30:12So, uh, and then, and then I know we're talking about the offensive players, but they had a lot of issues on defense.
30:18And I think that shoring up the defense is going to help get the ball back to the offense and, and, and you know, it all works together.
30:26Yeah. By the way, Brandon Garrett saying I'm out on everyone except Lamar on the Ravens, including Henry.
30:31So he's a, he's a hater there. I disagree with you, Brandon.
30:35I have to tell you like, so I have Lamar QB two, like everyone does, but I have Derek Henry as a
30:41top 10 running back coming out later today on fantasylife.com is my hundred facts.
30:45You need to know before you dropped it's a hundred facts day.
30:48And, uh, I've got some good ones on, on Derek Henry.
30:51I have Zay flowers as a top 15 wide receiver.
30:54I think Mark Andrews is a touchdown dependent tight end.
30:57He's kind of a mid tier QB two touchdown dependent.
31:00She sort of always has been, uh, as well, but, um, yeah, I mean, I, I think, I think it's going to
31:06be more of a narrow target tree of, if you will, in Baltimore.
31:10I actually think there, you know, we're, we're hearing good reports out of Jacoby lane.
31:14I think you'll see some, um, uh, you'll see some, you know, production out of him, but really, I think for our
31:20purposes, because for so long, Baltimore was just like, well, it's all these guys over here, but I'm telling you like Henry
31:26and Zay and Lamar, uh, I I'm with you.
31:29The other thing I've heard about, um, you, you mentioned relationships.
31:32The other thing I heard about Jesse Minter is that he is a real kind of in your face kind of guy,
31:38you know, he's an intense coach and he's like an in your face kind of guy.
31:43And that, um, you know, some people feel like that's something that Lamar will respond to this year.
31:48Um, and that, uh, you know, having, having somebody that's that, um, you know, kind of, uh, intense.
31:53Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. Uh, yeah. I mean, I, I heard that as well.
31:57It'd be interesting. I think Lamar wants to be great, you know, and, and the, and I think that, you know, he's
32:03going to, as long as, you know, I think you're respectful, whatever your coaching style is, as long as he thinks that,
32:09you know, you're going to help him be better, he's going to respond well to it.
32:14Um, I agree with you with, uh, you know, I think Derek Henry until he stops producing, it's hard to bet.
32:20It's hard to bet against him, you know, um, and just the, the, the type of offense that they, that they're going to run.
32:27Like they're going to feed the back and then, and then Zay as well.
32:30But I think there is a little bit of, you know, where it's kind of like the chargers, where's the rest of
32:37that production going to come from, but also like the chargers, like you feel good, like there's going to be production.
32:43It's just a matter of who's going to, who's going to get it.
32:46Like they're going to be a successful offense. It's just trying to figure out like who, who are going to, who's that guy going to be.
32:54And, and, you know, I've heard the same things about lane and, um, you know, I think that he's got a chance, but again, it's hard.
33:01To bet on rookies, you know what I mean?
33:03Especially early in the season. No question. Greg Lau 100 says, can this be the year that Zay flowers becomes a legit,
33:10uh, I assume he means wide receiver when he wrote RB one, but, uh, is Zay flowers becomes a legit wide receiver one for the Ravens.
33:17And my answer is, I think, no, like just his touchdown, like, you know, this is just not a guy that's going to score a ton of touchdowns.
33:25Again, they get in close. They give it to Derek Henry.
33:28They've got red zone threats and Mark Andrews. We mentioned Jacoby lane has got some size, some size as well.
33:34Like I just, I think Zay flowers is awesome, but it's hard for me to see him getting, becoming a top 10 or 12 fantasy wide receiver.
33:41I think he's a mid tier wide receiver too was some weekly upside, but, uh, I just think his touchdown equity is
33:47capped given sort of how that offense runs and kind of the kind of player he is.
33:52Um, I know that, uh, I know that, uh, you, you have a lot of buddies around the NFL, but one of
33:58them is drew Petsy, who's the new offense coordinator in Detroit.
34:02And everyone's excited to see what drew is going to do with this lions offense.
34:06What are your thoughts about, uh, how Detroit's going to look this year?
34:09You know, they kind of got away from their kind of bread and butter last year.
34:14They became more of a, more of a drop back tight team, especially early in the year before, uh, you know, uh,
34:20Dan Campbell took the play calling back over. I think bringing in drew, um, is going to really get them back to their identity.
34:27Um, you know, Gibbs, obviously, you know, um, he's going to, he's going to get a ton of touches.
34:32Um, everyone has him. I mean, whatever. I know that, you know, I look at, I, like I said, I'm not big.
34:39I'm fancy, but I, I know enough to know that everyone has him as the kind of the top, the top guy.
34:45Um, and then, you know, a Monra, um, Laporta, like, you know, him coming back from the, the injury and then, uh,
34:51but then, you know, Jameson Williams, I mean, they just, that's, that's what I would think the worry would that be for
34:57the individual players is just, there's only one ball, you know what I mean?
35:01And they got so many talented players, um, just spreading it around.
35:04Like, but Jameson Williams, and you look at, um, kind of throwing the ball down the field, the deep in routes, the
35:11out routes, like those, the type of thing that fit his game where I think you're going to see a lot of
35:17that, um, from drew and the, and the lions offense.
35:20Do you think they change, uh, their philosophy a little bit?
35:23Like when drew comes in or is it more again, sort of like, look, okay, what do I have to work with?
35:29I got an electric player in Jameer Gibbs. I've got a great slot guy and I'm on raw.
35:34I've got a, you know, I've got a field stretcher in Jameson Williams.
35:38Like, is it more fitting, like, you know, figuring what he's got to and fitting his coaching style to that?
35:43Or do you think there's some different things they might do?
35:46Uh, yeah, they're going to take, they're going to keep the same style that they have.
35:51And drew's going to adjust, you know, himself to fit it.
35:54Um, you know, and just instead of having a whole team, learn something, they would just have, it has one person, you
36:00know, and obviously they've been successful, but they brought drew in to put his twist on it.
36:05So there's going to be some fine tune things, maybe some, you know, this is more football side of it, but maybe
36:11some more gap scheme runs as opposed to zone.
36:14Drew's got a lot of success with the gap scheme runs in, in, uh, in Arizona.
36:18Um, but it's going to look to the naked eye.
36:21It's going to look like what the Detroit Detroit lions have looked like over the last couple of years.
36:27And they're hoping it's going to look more like what it was like when Ben was there.
36:31You know what I mean? Um, I think this is a good comment from the, from the chat though.
36:37Do we believe drew Petsig will elevate Laporta like he did McBride last year?
36:41Of course, Petsig for three years was the offense coordinator with the Cardinals monster year for Trey McBride last season.
36:46Could you see Laporta who's been up and down at least fantasy wise in his NFL career?
36:51Could you see Laporta being used more, uh, given the success that Petsig's had, uh, with McBride in Arizona?
36:56I, you know what? I don't, to be honest, I think the, the reason that McBride had so many touches is just
37:03because he was clearly their best player. You know what I mean?
37:06So they're going to feature throwing the ball to their, to their best player.
37:10And, and as good as Sam Laporta is, I wouldn't necessarily say.
37:13Hey, he's clearly their best player where they got to me in the passing game and you're throwing the ball to Gibbs as well.
37:20You got four guys that you feel good about throwing to at any given time.
37:24You know what I mean? With obviously Laporta, Gibbs, um, Amonra and, uh, Jameson, you know what I mean?
37:30So that I wouldn't think you're going to get that heavy target share that, uh, McBride did just because, you know, like
37:36I said, there's more, there's more guys that you want to spread it out to.
37:40I have Laporta at tight end six, but he's definitely in a tier below kind of the elite guy.
37:46So I agree with you. Let's move over to Buffalo now.
37:49Um, new stadium, uh, seems like if you sit there, you want to be lower.
37:53Cause there's some, there's some, uh, uh, uh, obstruction up high.
37:56But, um, the, the big talk here is that, uh, in the off season, at least fantasy is that DJ Moore, who
38:02for years has been one of the better wide receivers in the NFL now goes to Buffalo.
38:07I think there's an argument you can make Scott that DJ Moore, even at this stage in his career might be the
38:13best wide receiver Josh Allen has had in his career.
38:16He's certainly a short list. Um, how do you feel like DJ Moore fits into Joe Brady's offense in Buffalo?
38:22So DJ, you know, uh, spent two years with him in Carolina, really big fan of him.
38:26Um, he's a great, uh, run after catch receiver.
38:29The first guy never tackles them. He's very smooth runner.
38:32So it kind of has deceptive speed. He's kind of, he's always moving faster than he appears to be.
38:37Um, you know, Joe Brady was in Carolina with DJ.
38:40So they have a background, uh, there, the receiver coach, Drew Terrell was my receiver coach in Washington.
38:45He was in, uh, Carolina with DJs, uh, quality control.
38:48So there's some guys that know DJ and DJ knows the system.
38:51Um, I think, you know, obviously digs was rolling when they had him in Buffalo.
38:55So you compare him, you know, digs and DJ would be pretty comparable as far as the best receivers, um, that Josh
39:02has had, but, you know, with Josh, he can extend plays.
39:05I think DJ is going to be able to move, um, and stay alive for Josh in those situations.
39:10The, again, getting the ball in his hands and letting him run after catch is going to be something they're going to do a lot of.
39:17Um, with, you know, and it takes a little bit of that pressure off of, off of Josh and the passing game.
39:24I think this is going to be really successful.
39:26I think it's going to be similar to what happened when digs first got the Buffalo, you know what I mean?
39:32Where, you know, they, they just lit it up.
39:35Um, you know, Dave always calling the plays then.
39:37Um, but you know, I think that you're going to see, uh, kind of a similar type situation.
39:42Um, you know, I, I, I think that they're going to feed him the ball.
39:47Um, and I think Josh is, is going to, you know, going to be happy to have him.
39:52He's going to find him. You know, both plays that are designed.
39:55And then we always say it like the play after the play is like if the play breaks down, the quarterback's extended,
40:01you know, there's going to have be a lot of success between those two and those situations, um, as well.
40:07So I'm, um, yeah, I'm excited for, for DJ, uh, in that opportunity.
40:11Uh, and I think that, you know, he's going to do really well.
40:14And I, I'm, uh, I'm going to be at that stadium.
40:17I'm going to that opener Thursday night. It's only three hour drive for me here.
40:22So I'm looking forward to, I was, I was coaching for the jets.
40:25I was at the last game ever played at the old stadium.
40:29So I'm like, I got to go to the first game.
40:32And a new one. So, yeah. So I'm, I'm kind of looking forward to, to that as well.
40:37It's a, it's one of the great fan bases in all of sports as well.
40:41Look, Josh Allen, proud fantasy life investor, Josh Allen.
40:44He's my number one quarterback. He's everyone's number one quarterback.
40:46I have DJ more wide receiver 29. I think I agree with you.
40:50I think he's the highest rated bills wide receiver.
40:53I have, I am as a top 30 play, but they do have a lot of guys.
40:57They got Shakur. They got Kincaid, you know, Dawson Knox always catches a handful of touchdowns over the course of year.
41:03We'll see what happens with Keon Coleman, but, um, because they spread it around so much, right?
41:08Khalil Shakir, the only Buffalo wide receiver last year to see at least 60 targets.
41:12Now I think DJ more exceeds that. But the fact is, is that, uh, because they have so many other guys and
41:18because Josh is willing to run it and he likes to save it, he likes to save it.
41:24Spread it around that caps the upside. But I agree with you.
41:27I think it only means good things for Josh Allen.
41:30Um, you mentioned earlier in the show, uh, Scott, that, you know, you're close to Shane Steichen.
41:35So let's talk about the Colts. What are your expectations for Indianapolis this year?
41:39They lose Michael Pittman. Alec Pierce is dealing with a foot injury, but they got a Daniel Jones back healthy.
41:44Uh, Josh Downs. I love me some Tyler Warren.
41:47Talk to me about what you see from Indy's offense.
41:50Do you think they add a piece? That's the other question is with Pierce banged up.
41:54Link to Keenan Allen. Uh, that's been a rumor that, you know, maybe he could be signed there.
41:59Just curious what you think about the Colts offense this year under Steichen.
42:03Yeah. So, you know, the, the health is going to play a huge factor into this, you know, starting with getting Alec
42:09Pierce back healthy and on the field. I mean, he's led the league in, in yards per catch.
42:14I think the last two or three years, um, you know, they, they use him down the field on the deep balls as well as the intermediate throws.
42:22Um, so getting him back out there and then getting everyone healthy throughout the season.
42:26I mean, Tyler Warren, you talked about him, but if you look at the first like 10 weeks of the season last
42:32year, not only were the Colts the best offense in the NFL, they were the best offense in the history of the NFL.
42:39They, their points per drive. They went, I, how many games without even, without even punting.
42:43And then they're scoring on every drive. I think the first three games of the season.
42:48And then, but like, so Sean Payton's always the best of this.
42:51I always look at this. It's like points, points per possession.
42:54You know what I mean? So points per possession.
42:57If you're over three, you're in like elite, elite category.
43:00Um, and Sean always, you know, does a great job of doing that managing possessions and, and Shane, they were up in
43:06the high threes, like close to four, which is, like I said, it was the best.
43:10Um, and, and I could be slightly off with my numbers, but it was the best at that point, you know, whatever,
43:17if the season would have been over, that would have been the highest rate, um, of any team ever.
43:22And to me, there's no more important stat than that.
43:25If you're an offense, right. Trying to score points every time you have the ball.
43:29So. Of course they were overall for the year last year.
43:32And obviously Daniel Jones missed, you know, a good portion of the second half.
43:36They were fourth in scoring overall. Right. And that's with, you know, and, and that's with, you know, Phillip Rivers off the
43:42bench for a couple of games, like, you know, so, um, out of retirement.
43:46So, uh, yeah, no, there's no question. The offense, they were, they were a top 10 passing offense, middle of pack and rushing, but fourth scoring offense overall.
43:54Um, Aloha Briggs wants to know Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland.
43:57I have Colston Loveland higher, but I have Tyler Warren at four.
44:01And I love me some Tyler Warren this year.
44:03Yeah. Just to, from an evaluation standpoint, like I I've looked at all those guys's catches and I don't think you go wrong with either Loveland.
44:11Like I would probably say just because of the way they fed him the ball down the stretch.
44:16And then with DJ leaving, you know what I mean?
44:18I think that, uh, you're going to see like, uh, that Loveland, I think you're going to see some production similar to like Laporta, um, his rookie year.
44:26Now that was, I know he had all the touchdowns, but like that, you know, you know what I mean?
44:32Where they're the targets. Yeah, no, there, uh, no question about that.
44:35Buy or sell. Let's, let's, uh, move out of Indianapolis, um, here, um, buy or sell the Aaron Rogers and Mike McCarthy reunion in Pittsburgh.
44:42You're hanging out in Pittsburgh right now. That's, uh, that's where you, your, your wife is from, the family is from.
44:48So I know you're in the Pittsburgh area. Talk to me about this, uh, you know, Aaron Rogers reuniting with Mike McCarthy.
44:55Um, you know, unfortunately I'm a, I'm selling that I, uh, and it's not because of Mike McCarthy.
45:00Um, and it's nothing negative about Aaron Rogers as far as what he's done over the course, course of his career, but, you know, father time's undefeated.
45:07Right. And, um, you know, the last couple of years, you know, obviously coming off the Achilles, but you know, it's, um, it hasn't been as good.
45:15And, you know, I just don't, I don't know how much production you're going to see.
45:19Obviously it's a competitive division. Um, so, you know, I'm, I'm selling that now.
45:23The only thing I'll, you know, Mike McCarthy, you know, he, he's always had successful offenses.
45:28So, um, you know, you're kind of, you're betting against that.
45:31Cause if you look at his track record, it's pretty good.
45:34Um, but I just think with the age and where we're at with his career, I'm gonna have to sell there.
45:40Yeah. I mean, he's my quarterback 27. He doesn't really run in fantasy.
45:44You know, the average up the target last year, really short.
45:47It was a lot of dink and dunk with Aaron Rogers, which hurts DK Metcalf.
45:51He's my wide receiver 36. Michael Pittman's my wide receiver 46, because again, like the one thing you could hang your hat
45:57on with DK Metcalf last year was at least he'll get a lot of targets, but now he's got target competition.
46:03Do I think they'll pass a little bit more than they did last year under, um, Mike Tomlin?
46:08I do obviously. And, and, um, but you know, I have, I have Jalen Warren at, at running back 28.
46:14I have Rico Dattle at running back 31. So I think it'll be a committee there for those guys to get the three tight ends as well.
46:21It's just, you know, I think it's gonna be a lot of grinded out football in Pittsburgh as we've often seen.
46:27I I'm with you. I think Mike McCarthy usually calls a pretty good game and is a, is a smart offensive mind,
46:34but for our purposes in fantasy, you're looking at a lot of like flex plays.
46:38Um, uh, you know, you're just looking at a, uh, uh, you're looking at just a lot of guys where you're just
46:44sort of like, ah, I don't know, like, you know, like you just, you know, it's, it's year one.
46:49Um, they've taken over a team that's kind of been, you know, hanging in mediocrity for a while.
46:54So it's just, it's hard to say where it's going to go, but you know, Mike McCarthy gets a hard time, but
47:01he's, he's been a pretty successful coach, um, over the course of his career.
47:05Um, you were with the jets last season. So I'd love to talk about, uh, the jets.
47:09Um, talk to me about just kind of the players that, um, you know, for us in fantasy, uh, obviously Brees Hall
47:16and Garrett Wilson are, are, you know, people that get drafted, uh, often they're, they're big names for us.
47:21Um, uh, I'm curious just about those two guys as players and what success you think they can have with Geno Smith under center this year.
47:28I think, I think Garrett for sure. I think Brees is going to be hard to say.
47:33I think they're, they're going to roll the backfield a little bit, um, with Braylon, you know, obviously Braylon got hurt last year early in the season.
47:41And then Isaiah Davis, I think you're going to see a little bit of a, I mean, Brees is going to be
47:47the main ball carrier, but I think you're going to see a little bit of three headed monster there.
47:52And then, um, as far as Garrett's the one guy though, like they're going to force targets to Garrett.
47:58I mean, he's clearly, clearly their best player. He does a great job of getting open.
48:02I think with Geno, um, this year, I think you're going to see more opportunities to throw the ball down the field to Garrett.
48:09And that's where he really excels is getting separation and then tracking the ball in the air.
48:14I mean, his ability to track the football is really second to none.
48:17So, you know, we, we weren't able to do that much with him last year and then, um, but he still made some unbelievable plays.
48:24And then, you know, again, he missed a bunch of season, uh, due to injury.
48:29So I think that's, that's really the guy. I don't know if there's much else, uh, as far as, um, you know,
48:35Well, last year, you guys, well, last year in the middle is I will tell you, uh, early last week, we had,
48:41uh, my, my buddy from NBC Connor Rogers, who covers the jets does a great job over on SNY.
48:46He was at jets camp and he said, you'd be amazed at, you know, how much they're throwing to add nine Mitchell.
48:53Now that was a guy you guys got mid season last year.
48:56This is somebody that came out of Texas. That was, you know, a highly thought of prospect had the, you know, had
49:02the, had the brutal drop at the goal line and in NAPLIS and seemed like, you know, needed to have a kind of a change of scenery there.
49:10But, um, do you see some in practice? Did you see some flashes from Mitchell last year?
49:15Absolutely. I mean, he is a, uh, incredibly talented player.
49:18Um, I, I do think, you know, I should have said that.
49:21I mean, I do think that he's got a chance, um, to get some targets.
49:25Uh, I think Gino playing will help him. Obviously AD had the big game for us against Atlanta, uh, where he went
49:32over a hundred yards and had the touchdown, um, where we, when we beat them, you know, with Tyra playing quarterback.
49:37But I think that, um, I think that he's an, he is a guy that, that could, could potentially, uh, take off.
49:44And I would think that he would be the number two most targeted, uh, most targeted player.
49:48I know that, you know, Mason Taylor's there, the tight end they drive from Oregon that hasn't practiced yet.
49:54Cause he's hurt. You know what I mean? So, you know, but, but right now, the way you look at it after
50:00Garrett, you would say AD would be the guy they try to get to, cause I'm telling you, you watch him practice.
50:06I mean, he has number one, uh, receiver ability, you know, it's just like you said, being able to put it all
50:12together and, and, you know, playing with a quarterback consistently.
50:15Yeah. So, I mean, I've said this before, like if Gino can just be like, see, he doesn't have to be great.
50:21Gino just has to be like Seattle genius. Gino, if, if Gino can be like the 18th best quarterback in the NFL, right.
50:28Then there's a, um, uh, there, you know, then I think those players have a chance.
50:32It's just, obviously there's been inconsistent quarterback play for the jets for years and years and years.
50:37Brian Hickman three, six, one, two says full disclosure, Scott, your office game is strong.
50:41Nice setup. I appreciate that. I really appreciate that.
50:44I, I, you know, it took a while to put it together and, um, but yeah, I got some good stuff in here.
50:51So thank you. Um, what's your favorite thing in that office?
50:54Shoot. I don't know. I, the, so the pictures behind me are all pictures of me with guys I coached with, uh,
51:00and they were coaching for other teams. And so I got, I would get someone to take a picture of us pregame
51:06and then I would order it and then I'll move out of the way.
51:10I don't know if you guys know the highway men, uh, but I put a picture of the highway men.
51:16Cause as a coach, that's what you're a highway man.
51:18You're just moving all over the country. So you got the highway men poster.
51:22Uh, and then a picture is a bunch of different coaches, me and Shane Steichen up there, me and Drew Petsing, me
51:29and Brian Angeli goes with the Steelers, just different guys I worked with over different points in my career.
51:34So that, that, that's pretty cool. Just that, that wall.
51:37And then I got some, you can see game balls and stuff, but there's a good, good mix of different things.
51:43Yeah, it looks great. It looks great. Congratulations on it all.
51:46Um, listen, uh, Scott cannot thank you enough. Cannot tell you how thrilled we are to have you at fantasylife.com all season long.
