1:50What's up, everyone? And welcome back. Another off-season edition of Fantasy Football Weekly with your host and faithful narrator, John Laghezza, and
1:57then our good friend and my favorite anirist in the game, Mr.
2:01Jake Trowbridge. How are you, friendly? I'm your favorite?
2:04This is the first time that you've said that, and I'm going to choose to believe it's not just because you have
2:11to stare me in the face right now until you would feel bad saying another name, John, but I am feeling fantastic right now.
2:18It's training camp season, also known as best shape of my life season, also known as one-handed catch with no defenders in
2:25sight for a social media highlight season, whatever you want to call it.
2:29I love it. I got a good segue there, right?
2:32Because it's Tua is overperforming against no defense season, but it's also Tua got banged up season, which brings us to today's episode.
2:40You were nice enough to throw up some topics, which I was really into until, what's that famous saying?
2:46Things happen very slowly and then all at once.
2:48And that's kind of what happened with the injury news.
2:52No, I'm not kidding. You are my favorite analyst.
2:54Why? Because you're my prospect guy. We mentioned probably a month ago in passing that, you know, stripling for the 49ers could
3:01be an interesting pick because of how late he's going and could be a really good best ball pick, especially down the stretch.
3:09And right now, if you haven't followed the news, we'll get into the 49ers in a minute.
3:14Looks like he's about to be on the rise.
3:17Looks like the big CLV pick is going to be coming out of San Francisco, but let's cover a player.
3:23We didn't get to last week. And it actually worked in our advantage because more news came out.
3:29It's Malik neighbors, the wide receiver, 13 ADP 38 with that knee.
3:32He was not listed on the pop list to start training camp.
3:36And I actually saw a video of him today.
3:39We have proof of life with Malik neighbors. I mean, he looked pretty good, I guess it's, I still didn't feel like
3:46I saw, you know, best wide receiver in the world condition going on, but it's so early.
3:51What do you make of the early news on neighbors?
3:54How are you treating it? I wasn't drafting him up to this point.
3:58Now, maybe I will. He was going around in the fourth.
4:02I would imagine he's going to be going in the third.
4:05This is still not really moving the needle for me on Malik neighbors.
4:09I need to see a little bit more. It's good.
4:12I think that he did not start on pup.
4:15Obviously you would prefer to, to have a guy out there on the field and training camp rather than have them shelled.
4:22There's a number of guys who are on pup right now.
4:26So that is good news. I guess because I was low, but perhaps not as low as consensus on neighbors.
4:32I know there's that softball game footage that we saw maybe a month or two ago, where it looked like he was hobbling the bases.
4:40And I know that was a big cause for concern.
4:43If he's out there and he's cutting and all of that.
4:46Great. I still think it's a little weird the way that they've been handling how much they've talked about or not talked about his injury.
4:54So I just need to see more right now before I overreact either way.
4:59I think last time that we talked, you know, it was like, well, if he's in the third round, it still kind
5:05of makes me clench up a little bit. You know, if you somehow get them in the fourth.
5:11Okay. I think that's still where I'm at. Yeah.
5:14You nailed it for me. And that's why I feel okay.
5:17Being patient because he never fell far enough for me in the first place.
5:22Had he, you know, been in the eighth and now we're talking about a three or a four round jump.
5:28Maybe that's something I want to get on early right now.
5:32It's a fourth that could go to a third, but I still have question marks about.
5:37I'm not really sold. You know, I forgot. I want to circle back really quick.
5:41You were nice enough to provide some of the rules around the pup stuff.
5:46I had to admit to you. I didn't really know all the nuances.
5:50So there's active pup, right? Players placed on the pup list before training camp counted as part of the roster, not allowed
5:57to practice until physically cleared and removed. A player on active pup can be removed from the list any point in training camp.
6:04So I was, I didn't know that, right? So it's not game over if a player is on the pup.
6:10And it's conversely. I heard someone say, I'm not trying to imply that neighbors will, but he still could miss games to start the season.
6:18They might determine he's only going to miss two.
6:21So he wouldn't be on the pup going forward, but maybe he still might be and miss those four games.
6:27So still part of me being a little reticent.
6:30Is that kind of your take on these pup lists that people are probably gonna be overreacting and maybe we shouldn't.
6:36Yeah. I think the off season pup list causes so much confusion because it is so different than the regular season pup
6:43list where, you know, that they're going to miss a few games.
6:47It's so fluid. And the fact that they can decide if he just doesn't look good to your point, if neighbors just
6:54does not look good enough, something looks off, there's nothing stopping them from saying, Hey, let's go ahead and keep you over
7:01here for now and keep you off the field.
7:04So yeah, don't, don't get too excited about it, but I would still say that it's generally a positive at this point.
7:11Yeah. I mean, that, that feels really fair. I think the crux of it is the situation, the giants are in.
7:17It's still kind of a rebuild things, not a win now team, even though anytime you think you have your answer quarterback
7:24and a superstar, at least one on the, you know, offensive side of the ball, you're hoping to make some noise, but
7:31I don't think they're going to be looking to get him re-injured because a re-injury could very well spell the end of the season.
7:39Whereas if the trainers and doctors telling you, well, if we wait until week five, you're going to get close enough to
7:45a hundred percent that we feel very confident about the lowering the risk of that re-injury.
7:50So to me, this is not out of the woods quite yet, right?
7:55Cause then there is, like you mentioned the reserve pop.
7:58And if an, if a player on active pop during trading camp is not removed from the list, he can be placed on this list.
8:06When teams cut their roster down to 53, a player on this list must miss at least four games.
8:11And they changed some of the practice rules. But I think that was really helpful and important to lay out for people.
8:18Cause again, I, I didn't really know we use the word pop and it's like, are we that bad at taxonomy that we couldn't think of another name?
8:27So people right now, we're already victory lapping Malik neighbors.
8:30Ha ha ha. You didn't take him in the front of the fourth.
8:34You're going to have to get him at the back of the third now.
8:39So like, I'm not really getting that to me.
8:42That feels a little bit overblown. Next one is running back from green Bay, Josh Jacobs.
8:47He has no timeline for resolution. And the athletic just reported that the investigation is quote unquote, still open.
8:53You and I have been very careful. I mean, we're not the type to be kind of obvious.
8:58Right. And we want to be careful about our words and not be wrong or misframe things.
9:04But I think the uncertainty in itself is a cause for concern, right?
9:08We want them on the field. We're going to want them practicing.
9:11And sooner or later, I think right now, if you're drafting Jacobs, that's okay.
9:16To me, he was not explosive for me enough in the first place, but I get the volume base play.
9:22Where are you on Jacobs? Are you kind of buying the dip that I think is going to come?
9:28I think the longer he takes to settle, the farther he's going to fall.
9:32I've been drafting entirely too much Marshall and Lloyd in case, you know, someone here is not worried about sleeping under the overpads.
9:40I've been off of Josh Jacobs really since that news, even before that news, because of what you said, I wasn't that
9:47impressed towards the end of the season with Josh Jacobs.
9:50I thought he started off very well. I thought you could see his career touch total, which is very, very high, especially
9:57for his age, really catch up with them halfway through.
10:00And I was just worried about whether he could hold up to this massive workload that we're used to the Packers lead
10:07rusher getting and Marshawn Lloyd coming back, even though we haven't really seen him Packers have been very high on him.
10:13I think I'm just not going to have Josh Jacobs on my rosters.
10:17That's that's just how it's going to be for me.
10:20But for anybody who is interested in Josh Jacobs, I do think you should maybe see a little bit of a silver
10:27lining in the fact that they haven't gone out and traded for anybody else.
10:32Packers have not picked up one of these off season or excuse me, one of these veterans like a nausea Harris or somebody who's still available.
10:40So the fact that they haven't made moves in the backfield says that either they're just waiting or they're comfortable with who they have behind Josh Jacobs.
10:48So for you, John, that might mean wheels up for Marshawn Lloyd.
10:52Man, I couldn't be more excited. I'm I'm frankly, and just very surprised how people are reacting to this.
10:58Swath of running back health that we've had is if suddenly playing NFL running back is not a dangerous job.
11:04And what I mean is Lloyd feels like the clear RB to he's got some pop and I don't want to make
11:11too much of this, but all of us have had to rethink injury timelines and injury arcs because of advancements in medical technology, right?
11:19There was a time and ACL cost her a full year.
11:22Now these guys are back on the field in nine months or so.
11:26So, you know, that's an objective thing. And I mentioned about Marshawn Lloyd, a player who was never able to get healthy.
11:33Really? I advise everyone to go look into this story.
11:36I'm maybe going to try and do a piece on it.
11:40It was really interesting. They went to like a sports scientist and did like body scans.
11:45And now we do all this like compensatory injury weighing.
11:48So they found that his, because of the injuries he had, his balance was completely off.
11:53And those create further problems. They like, you know, rebalance the tires for lack of a better explanation.
11:59And that's why they're so very excited about Lloyd.
12:01This isn't like, Oh, he just is not hurt right now.
12:05Right. There's a difference between he's not hurt and he's healthy.
12:08This is also very similar to Christian McCaffrey. He went overseas and took on a new treatment.
12:14They were really excited again about all this balance treatment that's been going on.
12:18And he put up a tremendous season as far as workload goes.
12:22So I don't know. I don't think ATP 33 is enough for Jacobs.
12:26Would you agree the price on Lloyd? Like at pick 200 is a little too cheap.
12:31At least are you interested in him? Are you worried?
12:34I, I tried to keep my bias out of it because I am a Packers fan, but yes, I'm very interested in Marshawn Lloyd.
12:42And I don't think it's just my, you know, green and gold colored glasses doing that.
12:47I think it's anytime you can get somebody that late that has so much upside.
12:51Cause when he even came into the league, there was just all of this talks about how versatile he is and how much he could possibly handle.
13:00I don't think that has gone anywhere. So if he doesn't look good because he's injured, whatever, you know, it's a super
13:07late pick and best of all, it's tough. Cause you don't get to make, you know, roster changes, but in redraft, especially like go get this guy.
13:15And if he doesn't look good the first couple of weeks, whatever, move on.
13:20Yeah. And on top of that, if you're doing early redraft graphs, like some people are doing it right now and you
13:26know, they have a week zero waiver where tons of moves get made.
13:30They got to clean it off, which I get to me.
13:34Lloyd would be a super priority just for the non-zero chance that the Jacob thing goes South.
13:39I'm not, I don't hope it happens. I don't want it to happen.
13:43I don't even think it's going to happen, but it is a non-zero.
13:47And in the case where let's say Jacob, something happened.
13:51It was unavailable. Lloyd might jump like over a hundred picks overnight.
13:54Those are the spots that we really want to be in.
13:58Let's stay in green Bay. You guys and our guy, Tucker craft.
14:02Now I was a little bit surprised. And this is what I came crying to you about the pup definition.
14:08He is on that active pup list. But from what I understand, there's still a decent chance that he plays week one.
14:15I'm trying to hold on to that or back him up in best ball.
14:19Cause I think when we get craft, he's going to be great.
14:23Where are you on craft? He's going to dip because once sites start putting that PUP next to guys or the O
14:30for out draft, have to scan help themselves with the knock them down, where are you on craft?
14:35How are you treating it? What do you think about?
14:39I think I'm going with buying the dip right now.
14:42As a Packer fan, I'm bummed because I'm going to be going to training camp this Friday.
14:47In fact, to watch the Packers open practice. And I was sure that I was going to see a Tucker craft out there.
14:54It doesn't look like that's the case anymore. Unfortunately, maybe I'll just watch, watch him walk around, you know, strut.
15:00Maybe, maybe he'll do like some stuff with the crowd around the, the track there.
15:05I don't know. Maybe he won't be catching balls, but he'll be chatting with us.
15:10Maybe it'll be better, but I do think you're right.
15:13As soon as you see the PUP go next to somebody's name, it's just like, ah, damn, here we go.
15:19But this is expected. This, this wasn't a big shock to me.
15:23He's always been saying along with George Kittle, I should mention that they're both going to be out there week one.
15:30It's just the kind of guys that they are.
15:32It's the kind of players that they are. And I don't think that they're lying, but I think that it's the team
15:39just being like, you're arguably the focal point of this offense.
15:43Let's not risk anything right now. So I still could very well see him playing week one, even if he doesn't, if
15:50they do keep them out a couple of weeks, his ceiling is so high that I would much rather draft him, especially
15:57if he is falling back, then go with one of these kinds of standard tight ends that just kind of plops eight points in your lineup.
16:05Yeah. Again, nothing really changes for me here. So I'm trying to just stay steadfast and I'm going to be inviting the discount.
16:12I'm not expecting a crazy discount, I thought he was too cheap to pick 80 for me.
16:17I thought this was already baked in. I think that's where I'm going.
16:21I thought we knew that again, if those mile per hour numbers on the treadmill and on the field are correct, and
16:28he is over 22, 23, that's like the literal definition of full health.
16:32You can't reach it. Very few people can reach that at all.
16:36If you've reached that, you're probably good to go.
16:39So I'm going to, yeah, I'm going to stay fast.
16:42And you actually said a couple of weeks. And I think that was almost like always the worst case scenario that he could sit two weeks.
16:50I don't think he's going to be on the reserve pop where he makes four weeks.
16:55And again, I'm going to be buying this down.
16:58Just of course, you know what you're getting into back them up, you know, get a last round dull search, or even
17:05if it's, you know, Terrence Ferguson has become a really popular pick.
17:09There's guys back there that I think you can support that craft pick because he is even worth, let's say we knew
17:16we was missing two weeks to me. He'd be worth holding onto.
17:19Wait, I came in for two things. How is this?

20:19Now, this is another one. It was, it was kind of vague and it depends how you viewed the vagueness of the news was your reaction.
20:28So Chris Rodriguez has been cleared. He's doing individual work.
20:31They're going to ramp him up. They said he looks good.
20:34And he's like on the field and like playing.
20:37So they had said to us, Jake, we think Rodriguez will be back for week one.
20:42Now it looks like he'll definitely be back for week one.
20:46How are you treating the Jaguars backfield? Toon right now is around pick 54 Rodriguez around pick one 28.
20:51John, I'm just glad that this did not turn into another Joe Mixon mystery foot thing that never gets cleared up.
20:58Like the fact that we got such a quick turnaround and it seems like things are at least trending the right way.
21:05That's a big sign. Chris Rodriguez as an individual fantasy asset.
21:08I've not been that keen on personally. I get the appeal.
21:12I get that there should be a lot of short yardage work potentially for him.
21:17Maybe he's the one who's closer to the goal line, getting some of those touchdowns.
21:21I just still see Basial Tootin as being the leader of the backfield, seeing the vast majority of the touches, I think is a more exciting player.
21:30Liam Cohen still seems to be, you know, singing his praises as well.
21:34I think they want this one to punch, but it's more of a discount.
21:38Jameer Gibbs, David Montgomery situation in my view, where it's not that David Montgomery cannot be useful or wasn't useful in Detroit,
21:45but I, I think, you know, you certainly still want Basial Tootin as the main guy.
21:50I think that's a really good analogy because, the price reflects that.
21:54And to me, those are, let's go. You know, I liked it with Detroit gives all the way up front, Montgomery further back.
22:01Now Tootin as your one to me, you know, in the fifties, he's been one of my favorite picks.
22:07If I don't have a running back, or if he's my, if he's my RB too, because I've now filled my entire
22:14wide receiver and pass catching room, I'm okay with that also.
22:17And to go to Rodriguez, one, I think he's a better runner than people maybe give him credit for.
22:23Last year, he was fantastic. After contact, almost three and a half yards per attempt.
22:28He had a positive EPA rush. Tootin was negative.
22:31He had an 8% explosive rush rate. Tootin had 3.6.
22:34And Rodriguez faced the eight man box nearly 60% of the time.
22:38Now that speaks to your real point. And I think the more fancy pertinent point is Tootin's versatility and explosivity in the passing game challenges the defense more.
22:47You don't know where they're going when Rodriguez is on the field.
22:50He's probably not catching the ball to that point though.
22:53He's very good at short yardage stuff. And I think he's a fantastic flex play.
22:58Again, if you've waited maybe a little bit too long on running backs, especially in half PPR, if you think you're getting
23:05all the Jacksonville short yardage touchdowns, that's a pretty good place to be.
23:09He feels like a guy that could score two TDs week one, even if he only gives you another, you know, whatever,
23:1628 yards on the ground, you know, that dog will hunt for us.
23:20So I'm, I'm in on Rodriguez at the price.
23:23I wonder if he's even going to move up before we take our quick break, Jake.
23:28I'm wondering, do you think they're going to move?
23:31Like, do you think Tootin will move down? Do you think Rodriguez will move up?
23:36Like, do you think they'll consolidate in pricing? I don't know that we'll ever get them matched up in sort of a
23:42back-to-back situation because I think it's a long hill for Chris Rodriguez to have to climb to get there.
23:48Yeah. I, it would, it would require Basial Tootin to really fall off the face of the earth.
23:54Like if we get a lot of negative training camp reports about him, he just looks bad.
23:59If the coaching staff starts kind of downplaying him and he really bumps his way back, then sure.
24:05But otherwise I think there's still going to be at least a, you know, three round gap probably between these guys.
24:12Right. So not a Viking situation where they quite literally go next to each other, which is the biggest fantasy ranking cop out in history, right?
24:20That's what we do. Everyone just will pull the curtain.
24:23That's what we do. When we don't know, we just put it next to each other and we hope nobody notices.
24:29And then we say, well, I had them right next to each other.
24:34You know what I mean? It was a 50, 50 proposition.
24:37I, you know, that's the best we could do.
24:40So listen, that's part of the game. Now, would you equate it maybe more to the Rams?
24:45Kyron Williams is going in the thirties. He's in front of Tootin, but behind Kyron, we have Corum going like in the nineties, right?
24:53So that spread is pretty much the same. So do you think it'll hang around there where we have a, I prefer Corum.
25:00Of course, he's going 30 picks earlier, but I think I'm willing to go another 10 picks on Rodriguez.
25:06I think one 20, I'd still be fine. Do you think we're getting those Jacksonville touchdowns?
25:11I just kind of glaze past it, but it really is the most important point of pressing the buy button on Rodriguez.
25:18Yeah. For Rodriguez, if you don't get the touchdowns, they just have a very hard time seeing him as being fantasy relevant week to week.
25:26Doesn't mean that he can't pop off randomly, but I think it's going to be really hard to tell when you're going
25:33to want to slot him into your lineups for redraft.
25:36The one thing about the touchdowns that gives me pause is we've seen Trevor Lawrence be more useful in that area in
25:43recent past than he was at the start of his career in terms of getting those rushing touchdowns himself in terms of
25:49being accurate in the red zone with passing. So I don't know that it's a lock for Chris Rodriguez to get, you
25:56know, double digit touchdowns, even if there's a lot of scoring opportunities for the Jags.
26:01Yeah. That's a really good point. And baked into the price outside of one 25 inside of price pick one 20.
26:08I'd be out on, I'd be out on Rodriguez, but I do think there'll be some love there.
26:13And I think he has some contingency value. All right.
26:16I have to go find my role of aluminum foil, Jake, a little tease right there.

29:28The tinfoils are out. Jake, it's time to talk about the substation in San Francisco.
29:33I mean, right now, if you were the conspiratorial type, and I am not, I am not, I don't think it's true.
29:40I don't want it to be true, but I can't help but lean into the bit.
29:45It's not just George Kittle in the last couple of days.
29:48We'll go back and circle through everybody. It's Kittle, Christian Kirk with the calf, Jordan James pops up with a rib, and now Ricky Pierce with the knee.
29:57Jake, talk to us about substations. And if I maybe want to move my family away from this one.
30:03The whole, if you don't, if you're listening to this and you don't know what the substation controversy is, it's just that
30:10the 49ers have had so many injuries for so long.
30:13Now it's every year. It's not just occasionally. It's every single year, a giant crop of these guys end up getting hurt.
30:20And the, the, I think it was George Kittle.
30:23I don't want to say for sure, but I'm, I think it was Kittle who initially had put this out there.
30:29It's like, we're so, we play so close to this substation.
30:33There has to be something involved in the substation.
30:36That's causing us to get injured. And it's, I, I look, I don't know, but can we get them an exorcist or something for their training staff?
30:44At least. I don't know what the cause of this is.
30:47John, can we get a force field? Is that a force field's real?
30:51Hey fans in the Bay area, go burn some sage around the stadium or something.
30:56Just get whatever bad juju is out there. That's causing all this.
31:00Make it stop because I know 49ers fans are tired of it.
31:04I know that fantasy managers of these players are tired of it, but I don't know what to make, John.
31:10I don't know why I just did this to myself, but I was looking for the crux of this, like the beginning of this.
31:18And the very first, the very first headline of course is the electromagnetic substation next to the 49ers practice facility has already
31:24claimed its first victims of the new season. So it's already, it's already out there.
31:29It's happened. It's definitive. You're in here. It's just, to me, it's a little bit ridiculous.
31:34I think it becomes like a self-fulfilling prophecy. There's also been, but what I really think it is, is I think it's
31:41a combination of training staffs, but also because we see this with fantasy managers.
31:45How does that team weigh injuries? There are fantasy analysts that will look you right in the eye and say, we cannot predict injuries whatsoever.
31:53I don't count them. I project everybody for 17 games because we don't know.
31:58And there's something to that. And then there's the other side, me.
32:01And when it comes to baseball in particular, a lot of times I am terrified in football, it's bled into lower body injuries.
32:09I've been speaking to you about that. I'm trying to really temper my expectations on injury optimism.
32:14I think that's another dangerous way. I'm trying to play the pricing here.
32:18So where are you on predicting injuries? Because I think it's possible that their outlook is injuries are hard to predict.
32:25So we don't really weigh that in our player evaluation.
32:28That would lead you to have a bunch of players that might be prone to being injured.
32:33And there you go. So putting the funky stuff aside, Jake, you know, where are you on that?
32:39Do you think like, are we trying to be too cute predicting injuries?
32:43I think that's always the, one of the main questions for fantasy.
32:47I mean, I'm not a doctor. I don't play one on TV.
32:50I don't even dress up like one as a, you know, for Halloween, because first of all, those long coats look boxy on me.
32:58I don't look good in them. So I just want to preface it by saying, I don't have any relevant medical expertise in this.
33:05However, there seem to be very obvious cases of assessing an injury and actually having it play into your evaluation.
33:12If a player is coming off of a pretty severe injury and we have not seen them actually perform in real meaningful action.
33:19I think it's okay. I mean, this is a Malik neighbors thing.
33:23If that gets okay to go ahead and caution and say, maybe they're not slotted for 17 games because either they don't
33:30play the first couple of games or they re aggravate that injury at some point during the season.
33:35So I'm not going to just automatically slate everybody for 17 games.
33:39If there's something really obvious injury wise poking through, but otherwise, yeah, I do think sometimes we get a little too cute
33:46and we go, Oh boy, this guy's had a couple of injuries over the last couple of years.
33:52So let's just go ahead and assume he's going to have it again.
33:56That's not really how that works. Yeah. I think that's really well put.
34:00I've been trying to, and that's when we try to quantify these processes, it's almost a fool's errand because if you start
34:07with, well, you can't quantify it, but if you try and quantify a process, then at least you might be able to
34:13eliminate variables and get closer to the truth. That's at least what I kind of tell myself.
34:19So for me, that comes down to, I try not to drink guys that are injured right now.
34:24That's the best I can do. I can't predict if they'll get hurt tomorrow, but if you're hurt now, then you're hurt now.
34:32So I feel like there's a good chance of being hurt tomorrow.
34:35If you're hurt today. All right, let's go through the players really quickly.
34:40I think we can go past Kittle because we already kind of mentioned it.
34:44It feels like a Tucker crafting. It's not a surprise.
34:47Let's go with the running back first. This is interesting because the fantasy community had pretty much had Jordan James as the
34:54RB three for San Francisco, because he was already with them last year.
34:58They didn't really use him. He was going really next to Kalen black, who I thought would be the two, because I kind of believe the rumors.
35:06I didn't know enough. Jordan Mason pops up with a rib fracture.
35:10Couldn't cost him at least a little bit of time.
35:13You don't like that, you know, core like vulnerability for running back where they take all those hits.
35:19So yeah, I guess talk to us about black.
35:22Did you know anything about him as a prospect?
35:25And do you think he has contingency value? If something were to happen to McCaffrey with all those touches.
35:31Yeah. Kalen black wasn't somebody that I was going gaga over in pre-draft process, but anytime that a team makes a substantial
35:38investment in a player, even if it's not somebody that you had on your own individual radar, I think it's worth paying attention to.
35:45You could say the same thing for to John Stribbling and I'm sure we'll get to him later, but you know, Kalen
35:52black, they want somebody else in the backfield. That's very clear.
35:55They're not satisfied with who they have now. You know, they moved on from a Brian Robinson, who I thought would be a very capable backup for CFC.
36:04So I don't know why they made that move, but they clearly wanted somebody else.
36:09They have Kalen black slotted in the Jordan James of it all does provide a path of a wider path for black
36:16to get in there and actually see some, some time running back, especially it's more about opportunity than outright talent.
36:22So if you're getting more opportunity early on to kind of show your stuff, your odds of having playing time later in
36:29the season, I think just go up quite a bit.
36:32So I don't know what's going to happen with Christian McCaffrey again, not a doctor, but he did have 400 plus touches last year.
36:40That is a massive workload biggest he's ever seen.
36:42So it's worth keeping an eye on whoever it is behind them.
36:46Yeah. We've already mentioned multiple handcuffs that go closer to the 100 pick mark, let alone outside the 200 pick mark.
36:53I think this injury probably knocks James off my 18 round season long board.
36:57He's still very much in play for 20 rounds.
37:00In fact, he probably be the best 20th round pick.
37:03If you were available, if anyone is doing those drafts, you know, the cupboards get pretty bare by the end.
37:09So if he, and you are right about opportunity, I don't want to argue that point, but I would just counter with
37:16when you're playing season long, if it looked like he was already kind of edging out that RB two role, maybe that
37:23was something he likes and maybe he can get back on a, you know, a path where that would be his job in the worst case.
37:3120th round, those both of them are going to get scratched as zeros anyway.
37:36So you just want to put yourself in a good risk reward situation.
37:40Let's do the pass catchers quick. We can do them together.
37:43Kirk, I mentioned a calf and now pierce with the knee.
37:47I think pierce all is a lot more concerning.
37:50It was the same knee that's had the issues before.
37:53They mentioned like it was lingering and it's swollen and now they're upset.
37:57This doesn't sound good. I mentioned shriveling at the top of the show, very polarizing player.
38:02And I don't pretend to know about prospects, but I do listen very carefully to people I trust.
38:07And that's how I get worried, but man, the antennas go up when nobody professional from the analysts to the tape watchers,
38:14to the college analysts, no one could seem to get a consensus on shriveling.
38:19So I'm not going to put you in the spot for it, but it seems pretty easy.
38:24Now he's, is it as easy as he's a value by right now outside pick one 70 while the getting is good, right?
38:31Should we get while they're getting as good, Jake?
38:34I mean, John, I was already warming up to shriveling more because this seems like a coaching staff and a team that
38:41is frankly annoyed with how much everybody is criticizing their draft picks and their inability to land a quality wide receiver through the draft.
38:49It wasn't going to surprise me if they just decided to shove this guy down our throats anyways, no matter what.
38:55And now we're looking at his only real competition for wide receiver.
38:59That's healthy at the moment as being 30 something year old, Mike Evans, who's dealt with his own injuries in the past.
39:06Like it could look a lot like last year in terms of, Oh boy, here's guys that we didn't expect to be
39:13featured very much now having to be featured by necessity.
39:16So I don't know what the talent level really is for him.
39:20He's not somebody that I was super high on in that regard.
39:23But again, if the 49ers are, who am I to argue at this point?
39:28I will certainly consider him towards the later rounds.
39:31I'm not going to get crazy with it. If he starts popping up into the seventh round or something, I'm not going to deal with that.
39:39Yeah, I think that's a good point. I think right now he is a super smash pick for redraft.
39:45We mentioned Kittle. There's a chance he misses a couple of games in the Kirk thing who may have already been on the downside.
39:52If the calf slows him down or he misses some time, struggling could just get a shot out of the box to produce.
39:59We've seen how wide receivers have produced in that system.
40:03It seems like anybody can produce. So yeah, I'm a little bit excited about shriveling.
40:07Obviously how about here? So really quick. Again, I mentioned, I don't like to invite injuries right now.
40:13He's off my board. I, we could be going for imaging, right?
40:17That's next imaging and second opinions. And before you know it, during that two week process, there are people buying that dip all the way down.
40:25I don't want to try and catch the falling knife.
40:28I'd prefer to have the price settle. Even if it costs me a little bit of closing line value, would you be, I don't know.
40:36And would you take Peter soul in an 18th round draft anywhere right now?
40:40I guess that's the question. Cause it feels like it's pretty binary.
40:44I like either yes or no. I think in best ball, I would just have to be out because again, I don't
40:51get the benefit of being able to scoop somebody else off of waivers.
40:55If the worst happens with him in redraft, it still seems worth it to me because you can possibly slot him into your IR spot.
41:03If your league has one. And in the games that he's played, that's what's such a bummer about here.
41:09So in the games that we've actually seen him played, he's performed really well, very admirably.
41:14I was excited to see what he could do this year.
41:17So I'm still holding on to just a thin level of hope with him that says in redraft, I'll still mess around.
41:24Yeah. Yeah. I think that's the right way to approach it.
41:28You mentioned the best ball approach. And I think it's good to kind of interweave these different formats.
41:33It helps you think about players under a different lens.
41:36You just don't want to be taking zeros. And there's right now, there's a possibility, even if it's small, that it's a,
41:43it's a true zero where you'd rather have, you know, again, the shriveling or even the Kirk where it doesn't seem, you
41:50know, like a calf strain opposed to an already repaired knee being re-aggravated.
41:54Kind of scary. Wait, I came in for two things.
41:57How is this $47? All right. We're going to need a plan here.

44:55We could just do them really quick before we get out of here.
44:59We're pushing up against the time. So Clint Kubiak announced Tuesday that, I love how they label these, four-time Pro Bowl selection
45:06Kirk Cousins when we've been starting quarterback. It's like, you also could have wrote, aging, dusty veteran that some of us are
45:13wondering has like a 40-yard completion left in the tank, Kirk Cousins, because believe it or not, from the adjectives and the
45:20descriptors, those are both the same player. Over Fernando Medosa.
45:23And I think that's fine. Again, it's just to begin training camp.
45:27I don't think anyone says he's starting first day, especially Cousins is kind of like a cool guy.
45:32It's not like an Aaron Rodgers thing where you could see him being mean and aggravated and everybody taking it out in the media.
45:40You can see Cousins, they're already like best friends.
45:43They're doing like the stepbrothers meme together. There's a good chance that I really like the symbiotic relationship.
45:48It looks like they're forming it. I'm drafting Medosa no matter what.
45:52Let him fall into the last rounds. And almost every draft I'm in, Jake, after pick 170, Mendoza is my QB3.
45:59I'm not going to be drafting Cousins. Do you think Cousins is viable?
46:03Or do you think it even hurts any of the weaponry?
46:06I've kind of just been treating it. It is what it is.
46:10Because if he's really bad, you'll get Mendoza earlier.
46:13And if he's good, then the attached Raiders are fine.
46:16So I don't know. I'm really not overreacting to this.
46:19What do you think about the shot call, the situation in Vegas?
46:23Yeah, the QB battle does not concern me for the pass catchers or anybody else that I'm drafting around these guys.
46:29You and I have always disagreed about drafting Mendoza simply because I don't like to have a guy sit on my bench
46:36potentially for a few weeks without knowing that the upside is going to be really massive.
46:41It'd be one thing if this was like a Jackson Dart situation and I expect him to go out and immediately just
46:48put up a lot of fancy points. I'm pretty hesitant.
46:51I'm pretty lax on any of my exposure to Fernando Mendoza.
46:55I love that these two are our best pals and they're going out and buying khakis together or whatever.
47:01I do all that. I do. I do. But I do think.
47:04Yeah. Yeah. But I will say I'm not drafting Kirk Cousins for the few games that he's presumably going to start.
47:11Yeah, I'm with that. I also wouldn't draft Mendoza in redraft.
47:14I think you kind of let that sit on the vine.
47:18If you waited too long on quarterback, that's not the QB two that you'd want anyway.
47:23Right. That's where the different formats come into play.
47:26I was just writing up quarterbacks for the day at Fantasy Life.
47:30And if you can, if you wait, there's plenty of guys available out to the QB 12.
47:35But then I think, you know, you you're getting like a shroud.
47:39Get a Bryce Young. Get a Malik Willis. I like Willis, especially at the running floor.
47:44But get somebody that you know is going to play.
47:47Right. Get somebody that you know is playing and could produce.
47:50Because if you're in a league where your league mates do kind of snatch up QB twos, you don't want to be left with zeros.
47:58That's that's kind of a nightmare. All right. This one you're getting put on the spot for.
48:03It's funny. I've just been avoiding the entire thing and it's making me a little nervous.
48:08We're talking about Minnesota. Kevin O'Connell, who until he met J.J.
48:12McCarthy was quarterback proof on managing his QBs during camp.
48:15Both this is a quote. Both Kyler and J.J.
48:18McCarthy will take reps with the first team, which I don't like.
48:22They'll also take reps with the second group, which I don't like.
48:25We want an elevator at the QB position. Yeah.
48:28Like, do you not know who it is? In many ways, doing that in the system is your job mentality.
48:34Yeah. Is he saying was that a subtle shot at McCarthy, who is known to be a little?
48:40I don't know. I don't want to knock him just out there.
48:44He's eccentric. You know, he's out there, man. For Murray, do you have a take?
48:49There are – there's a wide piece of the fantasy industry that is drafting Kyler Murray as the definitive quarterback for the
48:55Vikings in best-ball formats where you're married to this guy.
48:59And it's not even like they're pairing him with McCarthy.
49:02So, I mean, McCarthy stuff is really bad last year.
49:05Do you have anything for us? Like I said, I'm almost out.
49:09I like Jefferson late in the first because I think he's a superstar.
49:13Other than that, I don't care if I have a single purple people.
49:17Yeah. I think – I think maybe I had mentioned this during our QB Stacks episode.
49:22The fact that Kyler's ADP was so solidified as the starter this early in the offseason was quizzical.
49:27I didn't quite get that because as much as I like Kyler Murray from a fantasy perspective, I wasn't so sure that
49:34he would immediately step into that role. He has a lot of question marks.
49:39I know J.J. McCarthy has a lot of question marks.
49:42This camp battle does not surprise me. I don't think that we should have expected much different.
49:47If it goes on too long, that's when I just back away from it as you are, John, and I just say,
49:54all right, I don't think I want to mess with any of these guys.
49:59If you can't get your QB slot figured out early, that to me just says you don't have confidence in them, so
50:05why should I have confidence in the team around it?
50:09With that said, would it surprise me if they were just trying to bump up J.J.
50:14McCarthy's trade value when all is said and done?
50:16Now, that wouldn't surprise me either. So I hope it's Kyler because I think Kyler will raise the floor and ceiling of
50:23pretty much everybody on that roster for fantasy. If it's J.J.
50:27McCarthy, yeah, it's going to be tough. I mean, those stats for McCarthy were other, worldly, bad, just hard to imagine how
50:34bad, 57% completion, almost 15% off target rate, a 72.5% passer rating, just 6.7 YPA, almost 5% interception rate, just terrible.
50:40And this is something that my guy at The Athletic, Michael Safino, developed.
50:44He calls it splint, right? So it's sacks plus interceptions, splint.
50:48And the idea being, you know, he was very keen on how bad sacks are, right?
50:53I think we're coming around in that as an industry.
50:56I think people are starting to understand. Taking sacks is a killer.
51:00And one of the keys to the greatness of the Josh Allens and the Mahomes is they do not take sacks.
51:06Taking sacks destroys the drive. The numbers are undeniable.
51:09So McCarthy isn't just inaccurate or turn the ball over.
51:12He also takes sacks at an incredible rate. I mean, that number was almost 14% of drawbacks for ending in a sack for an interception.
51:20That is just outrageous. I can't see how he wins the job.
51:24So I think it'll be Murray. I guess I'm with you that maybe they're trying to pump up the value.
51:30Again, people, just keep in mind, it's a non-zero chance that Murray doesn't get the job, who, mind you, right now is
51:37being drafted almost universally in front of Jordan Love and Tyler Shuck.
51:41And I think that's patently insane. I really do.
51:44I think that's insane because we've seen the O'Connell system fail just last year.
51:48Maybe Sam Darnold is better at football than a lot of people realized, right?
51:52Where even O'Connell's like, oh, we could just get a vibe with anybody.
51:56Maybe not. We'll see. But I think that'll do it as a creep up to the 40-minute mark.
52:02Jake, that was so awesome, man. And the news really hit heavy, but it's important to kind of parse all this stuff.
