Blake Corum

PositiveValue32:26

JJ Zachariason notes that Blake Corum scares people because of committee concerns, but he's one of his guys and would have found a reason to discuss him if the assignment had been different. He's certainly not going outside the top 100 in ADP, but Zachariason is squeezing him in anyway. He views Corum as undervalued relative to the backfield situation in Los Angeles.

Insight page

Brenton Strange

PositiveValue48:57

Zachariason ranks Brenton Strange at tight end 8, one slot higher than Jawan Johnson at tight end 9. Strange winds up being the tight end flag player discussed more frequently on the show due to his slightly higher ranking, though Johnson could have received equal attention given the strength of his situation.

Insight page

Brock Bowers

NegativeRole38:02

JJ Zachariason notes that Brock Bowers will get a million targets for the Raiders, establishing him as the clear focal point of the passing game when discussing Trey Tucker's opportunity.

Insight page

Chris Brooks

NegativeRole7:15

Power back and Chris Rodriguez type; good pass blocker with very little wiggle or big play ability; not likely to make many people miss. Has played in 41 NFL games with Miami and Green Bay with 80 total carries and some receiving work but not a dynamic playmaker. Ranked 10th or 11th round. If Brooks is the main guy at week one, it's not expected but wouldn't be a shock given he's now the veteran in the room.

Insight page

Denzel Boston

PositiveValue43:22

JJ Zachariason ranks Boston at 54 overall and has taken him late in every draft; despite Conception going ahead of Boston in ADP, Browns beat reporters say Boston has been the more electric player and is the primary reason the Browns parted with Cedric Tillman; at 14th round pricing, Boston offers upside relative to market perception.

Insight page
PositiveValue44:58

Boston is being drafted 156th overall ADP versus Concepcion at 113th overall, a significant discount despite Boston's 6'4" frame and red-zone upside in a dysfunctional Chargers passing game. JJ Zachariason views this as a 51-49 situation favoring Concepcion, but prefers Boston as a 14th-15th round puncher's chance bet given the new coaching staff and potential offensive improvement; the logic that short-yardage situations will go exclusively to slot receiver Concepcion is overstated, and Boston's size gives him touchdown upside if the Chargers can move players around the field.

Insight page

Deshaun Watson

NegativeProjection44:01

JJ Zachariason characterizes the Browns quarterback situation as 'utter hot garbage' and suggests Watson will be 'a hot mess'; speculates the team may be using Watson just to fail and bench him, though acknowledges it's hard to assume the Browns are doing anything that makes sense.

Insight page

Emmett Johnson

PositiveSleeper16:42

Won the number two job in Kansas City behind Kenneth Walker, who was often hurt in Seattle. Had a running and receiving profile in college, suggesting he could have diversity if he gets a role. Value tied to starter injury, but Johnson is encouraged as a good football player who would be interesting the moment he steps into the chair. One of 12-15 guys fitting this backup profile, but quasi-prioritized. Can be grabbed in double-digit rounds whenever desired.

Insight page

Fernando Mendoza

NegativeRole38:02

JJ Zachariason mentions Fernando Mendoza as a potential quarterback option for the Raiders, hoping he or Kirk Cousins will improve the passing game relative to Geno Smith's performance last year.

Insight page

Garrett Wilson

NegativeRole28:57

JJ Zachariason notes that Garrett Wilson is the alpha receiver for the Jets, establishing him as the clear top pass-catcher in the offense when discussing AD Mitchell's role and opportunity.

Insight page

Geno Smith

NegativeProjection31:39

JJ Zachariason notes that Gino Smith was bad last year but was actually pretty good not that long ago. He's had a previous run with the Jets. Zachariason acknowledges the uncertainty around Smith's performance as a risk factor for Jets receivers like AD Mitchell, but argues it's too early to dismiss the Jets entirely given the team's talent.

Insight page

George Kittle

NegativeRole49:08

Zachariason notes that a buddy recently drafted George Kittle and needs a tight end to bridge the first quarter of the season until Kittle's role and production become clear. This context illustrates the use case for Jawan Johnson as a complementary tight end pick for those targeting Kittle early.

Insight page

Jalen Nailor

NegativeValue38:32

JJ Zachariason notes that Jalen Naylor is not any good and the market has moved on from him. Earlier in the summer, Naylor was going ahead of Trey Tucker in drafts, which Zachariason questioned. Now, in live drafts on Fantasy Pros, Tucker is going ahead of Naylor, which Zachariason views as the correct market correction. Zachariason didn't see anything in Naylor's Minnesota performance that warranted the earlier hype.

Insight page

Jalin Hyatt

NegativeProjection44:58

Hyatt is implicitly discussed as part of the Chargers' passing game dysfunction. The source notes that the Chargers' quarterback room was a 'clown car' last year, and even with new coaching staff (Kellen Moore), the offense is unlikely to improve significantly. JJ Zachariason references Sanders' ponderous play and slow decision-making as reasons to be skeptical of any meaningful offensive improvement, suggesting limited upside for pass-catchers.

Insight page

Jordan Love

PositiveValue20:15

Been in on Jordan Love all summer; situation gets stronger because Packers' running back room is unsettled with uncertainty about other guys' ability to play. Has a quarterback five finish on his resume; got hurt early the following season which basically wiped out that year. Team has been very run-heavy in general, but defense looks a little worse. Good quarterback value in late rounds given there are so many good quarterbacks this year; can do well at any price point.

Insight page
PositiveValue20:50

JJ Zachariason has been bullish on Jordan Love all summer and sees the Packers' unsettled running back room as strengthening the case for him as a second-quarterback target. Love has a QB5 finish on his resume; Zachariason ranks him QB17 but believes he's more talented than that ranking suggests. The market has given him a giveaway price all summer. Zachariason notes Love is one of the 12 most talented quarterbacks in the league and that Matt LaFleur's conservative play-calling last year (the team ranked sixth in pass-to-run ratio) may have suppressed his volume; with a potentially weaker running back situation, there's a crease for increased passing volume. Zachariason expects LaFleur to streamline pass catchers and play main guys without heavy platooning, making Love a perfect second-QB target at a discount.

Insight page

Jordyn Tyson

NegativeRole48:20

Tyson won't be available for a couple of months, creating an extended window for Jawan Johnson to accumulate volume and production. JJ Zachariason explicitly states he is not betting on Tyson's return as a league-winner scenario, suggesting he views the upside as limited or the timeline as too late in the season to matter for fantasy purposes.

Insight page
NegativeBust51:51

JJ Zachariason expresses caution on Tyson despite his current ADP around 10th-11th round, citing his injury history from college and the practical difficulty of holding him through the season when roster injuries inevitably mount. The speaker argues that drafting injury-prone players early creates a trap: if you can't hold them through injuries and bye weeks, someone else picks them up off waivers later without having invested draft capital, making the early investment wasted. Zachariason's overall rank is lower than Tyson's current ADP and prefers not to draft into injuries.

Insight page

Josh Jacobs

NegativeInjury3:00

Placed on commissioner's exempt list on Sunday midday; almost certainly a long-term absence. Baseline suspension is at least six games for first-time domestic violence offender, but initial court appearance isn't until mid-November, making activation before then unlikely. After legal proceedings, suspension could be tacked on or weeks reduced based on time served. For fantasy purposes, he is a much later-round pick and probably only if your league has reserve spots.

Insight page

Juwan Johnson

PositiveValue47:50

Johnson is JJ Zachariason's number-one late-round tight end target, with proof of concept from last season: 77 catches, 889 yards, and 3 touchdowns. He's being drafted in the late teens at tight end early in the season, but Zachariason expects to find him outside the tight end run in Yahoo drafts. The Raiders play at a quick pace under new head coach Kellen Moore, and Jordan Tyson won't play for a couple of months, giving Johnson early-season volume. Zachariason is not betting on Tyson's return creating a league-winner scenario; instead, he views Johnson as a boring but reliable late-round value play.

Insight page
PositiveValue48:18

JJ Zachariason ranks Jawan Johnson at tight end 11 or 12, significantly ahead of market ADP where he's being drafted in the teens to early teens at tight end in most formats, sometimes outside tight end 20 in Yahoo drafts. Zachariason has numerous shares and views Johnson as fitting any tight end strategy—early, medium, or late—and as a perfect bridge option for those who draft George Kittle and need coverage until they know what Kittle produces.

Insight page
NegativeRole50:06

Jawan Johnson is described as essentially a big slot receiver with 77 catches last year; he has proof of concept as a productive player. He has prior connection to quarterback Tyler Shuck from their time at Oregon together, which Zachariason notes helped them hit the ground running and look comfortable together in their first season, reducing the typical ramp-up risk.

Insight page
PositiveProjection51:28

Zachariason is comfortable starting Jawan Johnson in week one and expects him to be one of his most rostered players across leagues. He notes there's no big difference among tight end options early in the season, but Johnson's combination of production, role clarity, and quarterback familiarity makes him a reliable week-one starter.

Insight page

Keenan Allen

NegativeInjury9:30

Arrested for DWI over the weekend; found parked in no-parking zone and blew over legal limit. Fortunately didn't hurt anybody. NFL makes distinctions for DWIs without extreme blood alcohol content. Current thinking from Colts beat reporters is Allen will face suspension eventually, but usually these DWI suspensions without extreme circumstances only happen after legal stuff plays out, typically around nine months. Not changing Allen's rank for 2026; similar to Jordan Addison who had DWI in July 2024 and wasn't suspended until start of 2025.

Insight page

Kenyon Sadiq

NegativeRole28:57

JJ Zachariason mentions Kenyon Sadiq as a tight end the Jets would like to develop into a major contributor. Sadiq had a great combine and was an interesting first-round rookie pick, but his health status is uncertain.

Insight page

Keon Coleman

NegativeRole27:48

JJ Zachariason references Keon Coleman in the context of waiting for his emergence, noting the draft evaluation that defenders cover him like a backpack. Zachariason makes a light joke suggesting Coleman might need to return to basketball, implying skepticism about his current trajectory.

Insight page

Khalil Shakir

PositiveValue25:15

JJ Zachariason lists Khalil Shakir as his number-four late-round player he loves. Shakir is a pure slot receiver who goes too late (around pick 140) because he's unsexy, but Zachariason views him as a borderline great player with a limited fantasy role. He expects Shakir to catch 70 balls again given his exposure to Josh Allen and the Bills' lack of depth at receiver behind him. While there's no huge ceiling, Shakir is a reliable baller his team trusts; Zachariason highlights a clutch fourth-down catch against the Patriots last year as evidence of his quality. The addition of DJ Moore should help everyone, including Shakir. At his ADP, Shakir is way too low for a player of his caliber.

Insight page

Kirk Cousins

NegativeRole38:02

JJ Zachariason mentions Kirk Cousins as a potential upgrade for the Raiders passing game, hoping that some version of Cousins or Fernando Mendoza will be better than what Geno Smith provided last year.

Insight page

Kyren Williams

NegativeRole32:26

JJ Zachariason references Kyron Williams in the context of committee backfield concerns, noting that people worry about taking him high due to committee risk, but Dave Montgomery doesn't go as high as Williams, suggesting a tiered approach to the Rams backfield.

Insight page

MarShawn Lloyd

NegativeProjection6:12

Ranked sixth round standard, seventh PPR following Josh Jacobs suspension. Has only six carries in two years and played exactly one game that counted; has been hurt basically entire two-year pro career (hamstring, ankle, appendix, hamstring, calf). If he was as talented as boosters claimed, ranking is too low, but downside is he can't play at all or his body can't take it. Ranking attempts to account for full probability matrix rather than just best case.

Insight page

Noah Fant

NegativeValue45:03

JJ Zachariason notes he would like to draft Fant but is avoiding him due to the Browns quarterback situation; Fant has an expectant ADP that makes him unattractive relative to the QB uncertainty, despite his quick onboarding last season.

Insight page

Oscar Delp

NegativeDepth Chart50:38

Zachariason notes that the Saints drafted Oscar Delp but does not view him as an immediate threat to Jawan Johnson's role, though he acknowledges the possibility of being wrong about the timeline.

Insight page

Skyler Bell

NegativeRole27:07

JJ Zachariason notes that while Matt Waldman's evaluations of Skylar Bell were positive during the offseason, Zachariason doesn't think Bell will be a story this year. He hasn't heard much from training camp reports and expects Bell's situation to remain quiet.

Insight page

Tre Tucker

PositiveValue38:02

JJ Zachariason lists Trey Tucker as his number-two late-round player, noting that while the Raiders passing game is uncertain past Brock Bowers, Tucker is available when people are drafting third receivers and speculation running backs. Zachariason believes Tucker could be the Raiders' best wide receiver, though he acknowledges Bowers will get a million targets and Gentry will catch passes if healthy. Zachariason sees Tucker as a number-one receiver on a team that improved its offensive infrastructure under Clint Kubiak, and he expects some version of Kirk Cousins or Fernando Mendoza to be better than Geno Smith was last year. Tucker had a three-touchdown game out of nowhere last year. Zachariason notes Tucker could have 950 yards and 7-8 touchdowns, which is in his range of outcomes. He's a fast guy with long-touchdown upside and could have 100+ targets. Even if Tucker hits the high end of his range, he'll likely remain a WR4-5 on most rosters, useful for bye weeks. Zachariason also notes that Jalen Naylor, who was going ahead of Tucker earlier in the summer, has now fallen behind Tucker in live drafts on Fantasy Pros, which is the correct market correction.

Insight page

Woody Marks

PositiveValue32:12

JJ Zachariason lists Woody Marks as his number-three late-round player he loves, calling him a play towards what if Houston's offense is better than expected. Marks is undersized but understood the assignment and mostly didn't bounce everything outside; he took a lot of shots but is quick and a pretty good runner. Zachariason sees potential for Marks to be the third-down back and is skeptical that Dave Montgomery is a true three-down back at this stage. Zachariason is often taking Marks by himself, not just as a handcuff, betting on him getting 40% of the work and being pretty good in scoring touchdowns. He notes Marks is a bench spot that could become the number-one waiver wire pickup if Montgomery gets hurt. Zachariason emphasizes that Marks' 3.6 YPC last year is misleading—the entire Houston offense was terrible, the offensive line was a mess, and CJ Stroud had his worst game in the Patriots loss. Marks had 19 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown against Pittsburgh. Zachariason criticizes the narrative that Marks was terrible and needed to be replaced, noting he was a productive part of the Texans' playoff run. He also highlights Marks' college pedigree: 261 receptions over five years at Mississippi State, including 83 catches in one season, making him very comfortable in pass-game work and credible in blitz pickup.

0:00It's the Harris Fantasy Football Podcast with your host, Christopher Harris.
0:03Welcome! Hey everybody, welcome in. My name is Chris and this is a show about beverages.
0:08What is going on today? You yacht possums, thank you so much for listening to this Monday episode.
0:14First off, I gotta mention it a few times the next couple of days.
0:18I'm reading in Los Angeles Tuesday night. That's the 1st of September, 7pm at Frogtown Brewery.
0:23I will be there. Please come hang out. As always, I have no idea who will show up.
0:29I hope some of my friends will come. I don't really know.
0:33I hope you will show up and become one of my friends if you're not already.
0:38Grab a beer after work. The weather is cooler now, I think, here.
0:42I'll read a couple of things from Pound Foolish and then we'll just hang.
0:46Even if you would be coming alone, one thing I can promise you from having done four of these dates last week, you will have fun.
0:54The possums are a welcoming crowd. You'll meet me and a bunch of really nice people.
0:59And trust me, the awkwardness of it being a bunch of strangers will wear off really quick.
1:05So, 7pm Tuesday evening at Frogtown Brewery. I hope you will join.
1:09It is the official book launch. The book is officially out as of tomorrow.
1:13Oh man! I don't even know what I'm supposed to do between now and then.
1:18I'm the publisher. This is crazy. And so, the other thing that I will say here, you know, a lot of you
1:25have heard me say things about the book and you're ignoring me and you're well within your rights to do so.
1:31I'm so happy to have you listening. It's great.
1:34It's great. But if you've ever been tempted to help out, the book bribery will continue this week.
1:40If you keep meaning to get a copy or I'm wearing you down with my patheticness, let this be one of your final warnings.
1:47If you'd like to help out the silly goal of making the book some kind of bestseller, you're really running out of time.
1:54You can pre-order on Monday. You can just order, I think, from Tuesday forward.
1:59But ordering on Amazon doesn't really help next week.
2:02Over this, basically this week here, that's its own separate list.
2:05So, you know, you can find other places you can order it if you just look at harrisfootball.com.
2:11And then, you know, starting next week, wherever, Amazon's fine.
2:14I will bribe more people this week, lots of bribes, including today, up through Friday.
2:18On Friday, we'll pick the grand prize winner who will appear on this very show.
2:23Just take a screenshot of the book purchase. Send it to heyharris at harrisfootball.com.
2:27If you've been meaning to do it, you just keep forgetting this is one of your last warnings.
2:33And what have I been doing with myself since returning from the Pound Foolish tour last week?
2:38I'm not kidding. I don't think I've stepped outside the yacht.
2:42I don't think I've been outside once since Thursday.
2:45I've been locked to the laptop, making a million changes to the player profile Almanac because that revision comes out on Friday.
2:52If you got the first edition, you will automatically get the one on Friday.
2:56And of course, if you're only just playing catch up on fantasy and just started listening today, you can also order the
3:03Almanac now and then you'll get the update on Friday.
3:06But what specifically do you think I've been trying most to deal with in the Almanac revision?
3:11That's right. On Sunday, we did get word Josh Jacobs.
3:14He's on the commissioner's exempt list. It happened midday.
3:17This is a major argument for why we would prefer to do our drafts the last weekend possible because if we drafted
3:24before midday on Sunday, Jacobs was probably still going as a third round pick or so.
3:29And now he should not be a third round pick.
3:32Let's definitely give the NFL credit. I give them crap.
3:35Some of that crap comes in that package that's called pound foolish.
3:39All I can say about the fact that they decided to nip this in the bud before Jacobs could play in games that count.
3:47The cynical part of me says, oh, they definitely have seen that video and they're definitely afraid it's going to leak out.
3:54Ray Rice style, Kareem Hunt style. They definitely already know that they would not be able to push this under the rug
4:01because surely that is what they would prefer to do.
4:04But whatever the reason, we give them credit. They did not do that.
4:08Our policy, believe women. So the commissioner's exempt list, this is what they do when they don't know what to do with
4:15you, when they can't figure out what they can get away with yet because the legal system is still playing out.
4:21But it's almost certainly a long-term absence for Jacobs.
4:24You may have read about this stuff elsewhere. I'm not going to repeat everything because I'm pretty much just reading the same stuff that you're reading.
4:32But like, you know, Adrian Peterson with the child abuse case, he missed the entire season.
4:37Greg Hardy with the bed full of guns. That was an entire season.
4:41Kareem Hunt, when the video came out, immediately was cut by the Chiefs and spent five games on the list, but then
4:48would be suspended eight more games after that. We think we know that the baseline here is at least six games for
4:55Jacobs because that's the minimum suspension for a first-time domestic violence offender.
4:59But his initial court appearance isn't until mid-November. So I don't know.
5:03It feels pretty unlikely he gets activated before mid-November.
5:05And then after that, often a suspension can get tacked onto the end or he could get weeks taken away based on time served.
5:13All of which is to say, for the cruel actuarial purposes of this game, he is a much later round pick himself
5:20and probably only if your league has reserve spots.
5:23And the Packers traded for Caleb Johnson yesterday, which you are no doubt aware of.
5:27And Caleb Johnson, I don't think is any panacea.
5:30He flamed out in Pittsburgh after just one season, seemed destined to be cut, but gives you the idea that Green Bay
5:37knew what was coming and battened down the hatches for a long absence for Jacobs.
5:42And so what's left behind? It's Marshawn Lloyd, it's Chris Brooks, it's Caleb Johnson for now.
5:47And, you know, that's what everybody is talking about this Monday morning.
5:50How does this shake out? And of course, you'll get so much blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, everybody pretending like they know, but we don't know very obviously.
5:59And the question, if you have more drafts ahead of you is given the fact that we don't know, what's the best strategy we can adopt?
6:07I've taken a shot at harrisfootball.com. You can see how I tried to process it.
6:12I put Marshawn Lloyd highest. I put him in the sixth round standard, maybe like seventh PPR.
6:17I'm positive people out there will tell you to be more aggressive with him because there is always someone who wants to
6:24be more aggressive on the hip new thing. But of course, the problem is we just have no idea whether he's any good.
6:31Marshawn Lloyd has six carries in two years. He's played exactly one game that counted.
6:36And by association, he's been hurt basically his entire two year pro career.
6:40Hamstring, ankle, appendix, hamstring, calf. If everything breaks right and it turns out he was as incredibly talented as his boosters told
6:47us two and a half years ago, well, I'm ranking him too low.
6:51But one lesson of this podcast this time of year is that people tend to only embrace the best case, but we
6:58have to try to account for the full probability matrix.
7:01And in this case, the downside is that A, he can't play at all or B, his body can't take it.
7:08So that rank is how I try to account for the full range of possible outcomes, but I make no claim that it's correct.
7:15And then Chris Brooks, I mean, at least we've seen him play.
7:19He's a power back. He's a Chris Rodriguez type.
7:22You remember what Emmanuel Wilson did last year for Green Bay?
7:25And boy, you'd have to imagine Green Bay is kicking themselves for not paying $1.6 million to retain Emmanuel Wilson now.
7:32But Brooks can do that. He's a power back, potentially a goal line back, really good pass blocker, very little wiggle or
7:39big play ability, not the kind of dude who's likely to make a lot of people miss.
7:44But if we get to week one and it's actually Brooks who is the main guy, it's not what I expect.
7:51But of course, I don't know. It wouldn't be a shock.
7:54He's suddenly the veteran in the room, having played in 41 actual NFL games with Miami and then Green Bay.
8:0080 tool hole carries in his career. He's also caught it a little bit, though he's not a dynamic playmaker.
8:07I have him ranked more like in the 10th or 11th round.
8:10But again, it is a guess. And then Caleb Johnson.
8:14I mean, if we have questions about whether Marshawn Lloyd can play, we really have to have questions about him.
8:20He was a third round pick last year. The Steelers had all kind of hopes for him, and they tried to use him early on.
8:28He had an incredibly bird brained special teams fumble that got him exiled by Mike Tomlin.
8:33And now a new Pittsburgh coaching staff got a long look at him in training camp, and they also decided he can't play.
8:40Seems like they were maybe thinking about cutting him before the Packers jumped in and offered a sixth round pick two years from now, 2028, essentially free.
8:48Probably Caleb Johnson is just depth behind Lloyd and Brooks, but I don't know.
8:53I don't know for sure. I put Johnson right beside Brooks in the ranks, and I actually just took him late in a draft last night.
9:01Probably that's going to be me flushing away a double-digit round pick.
9:05Probably he can't play, but he's a body on a team that needs bodies.
9:09He might get a chance at a big role, and you know, that logic doesn't fit when we're talking about the third round.
9:16But the 11th round, there aren't usually guys available in the 11th round that have that kind of opportunity available, so I do not mind making that stash.
9:25But also, I just want to remind you, rosters are not finished.
9:29I'm having to stuff things into the Almanac revision as it is, but it's not finished.
9:34The Packers can still trade for somebody. They can still sign somebody.
9:37Jaden Blue got cut by the Cowboys. Jaleel McLaughlin got cut by the Broncos.
9:42All we can do is wait and see. And then, unfortunately, another arrest.
9:46Another one of the guys that we have loved on the show, Keenan Allen, got in his car drunk over the weekend.
9:53Unclear how much he drove drunk, but he was found parked in a no-parking zone and then blew the breathalyzer over the
10:00legal limit, so he was arrested for DWI. And there was some speculation the Colts might cut him before cut down day on Sunday, but they did not.
10:08Allen, fortunately, didn't hurt anybody. And the NFL does make distinctions for DWIs when the player has not extreme blood alcohol content, and Allen did not.
10:17So the current thinking about the Colts from the beat reporters who've done the legwork is that Allen probably will face a
10:23suspension eventually, but usually these DWI suspensions without the extreme circumstances only happen after the legal stuff plays out, which is usually
10:30like a long, you know, nine months or whatever.
10:33I haven't changed Allen's rank for 2026. Like Jordan Addison had a DWI offense in July 2024, wasn't suspended until the start of 2025.
10:41That's kind of what I'm thinking here, but boy oh boy.
10:44Isn't it fun to talk about this side of the NFL?
10:48I guess this is true every year, and it's why I wrote the book.
10:52Check out Pound Foolish for more about how I feel about all of this.
10:56Today's kickoff. Okay, on today's show, we are still deeply immersed in draft season.
11:01Labor Day weekend is next weekend in the U.S., and that is the biggest draft weekend of them in all, so we
11:08will spend this week trying to get you ready for it.
11:11That continues today. My guest will be Scott Pianowski from Yahoo Fantasy, and Scott and I are each going to count down late round players.
11:19We love drafting, which will be a nice change from what I just had to talk about.
11:24I think it's going to be really fun, and I thank you again so much for listening today.
11:30We are sponsored again by League Legacy, and I know you're probably in a longtime fantasy league, and if you are, League Legacy is for you.
11:38It's the absolute best record-keeping site for fantasy leagues I have ever seen.
11:42League Legacy retrieves the data from your Yahoo League, your Sleeper League, ESPN, My Fantasy League, CBS, and others, and it builds a deep record book.
11:50All-time stats, milestones. It shows cumulative records, head-to-head records, draft tendency stats, transaction effectiveness stats.
11:55You can get lost in League Legacy. It's so fun.
11:58It's amazing for trash talking. I use League Legacy for my leagues.
12:02It's so fun to be able to look back at my teams from long ago to judge how I have performed, which
12:09franchises are the best and the worst. You have to check it out.
12:13They have draft stuff now that's really relevant, and John is a yacht possum.
12:17John listens, so you'll be supporting one of us.
12:20It's leaguelegacy.io, and maybe you're driving right now, but I want you to remember it.
12:25Make a point. Make a note when you can.
12:28The pricing is so reasonable. It's not per team.
12:30It's per league. It's 36 bucks a year for an entire league.
12:34It's so worth it. Check it out. LeagueLegacy.io. LeagueLegacy.io.
12:37Today's guest. My, my, my, my, Yahoo! P-P-P-Pianowski! And indeed, today's guest is Scott Pianowski.
12:42Find him wherever you find social media. Just look up his name.
12:45You can, of course, find him all over Yahoo Fantasy Sports.
12:49He is also back hosting the Breakfast Table podcast with Michael Salfino as well.
12:53And here he is. Hello, Scott. How are you?
12:56Yeah. I'm doing great, Chris. You know, it's the longest preseason in history, and it's been a lot of news lately.
13:03Not all of it good news, but getting close to the regular season.
13:07I know a lot of people still have their big drafts coming up in the next week or so, so it's an
13:14exciting time in the fantasy football streets. I hope they have their drafts coming, because otherwise somebody took Josh Jacobs in the
13:20third round isn't feeling good this morning. Thankfully, I avoided that in my leagues, but you know, anybody who thinks they know
13:27what the league is going to do with suspensions and discipline, it's just, we're flying blind on this.
13:33I still don't understand how Tom Brady get four games for basically driving 65 in a 55.
13:38I'll never understand that, but yeah, we're, there's just, there's not a lot of logic tied to it.
13:44Look, I mean, Jacobs deserves some kind of suspension.
13:47I don't know when it's going to come down.
13:50He's in limbo, but anybody who speaks with certainty on these things, I think is just fooling themselves.
13:55We're all kind of flying half blind on it.
13:58Yep. Absolutely agree. And, and I've, I feel like we can move on and talk about more fun things.
14:04Um, this is a fun show because like, again, really no wrong answers because nobody can tell us that we don't take
14:11these players in the double digit rounds. Um, and I'm sure that we do.
14:15So like, we're each going to go back and forth.
14:18We each nominated five players that we just find ourselves being tempted by in those late rounds to give folks some ideas
14:25that when they get down to the double digits, they can have a list of names.
14:30I'm going to stay away from the flag players because everybody already knows.
14:34So like I have a few players that we've already talked extensively about here for the past couple of weeks.
14:41Um, I'll mention them at the end, but I don't want to say them now because I don't want to Bogart anybody that you have.
14:48Um, and then also I'm just kind of trying to pick new names in general cause we're so on the show, you
14:55know, the show we do it every day. So we're just talking through a lot of different players.
15:01So I tried to pick players. We haven't spent that much time talking about, uh, did you have other than my assignment
15:08to you of, uh, what do you think of, you know, picking some double digits around players?
15:13Did you have anything else in mind? No, it sounds like the assignment and these are, these are fun picks because if
15:20you hit on them, you're going to feel great.
15:23And if for some reason, these players don't work out, you know, you, you cut them and you, you recycle them for
15:30ideas in September, October, whenever it will be. So, um, you don't have to be right that often on these players to have a successful season.
15:38Yeah. Agreed. And you know, then that inevitably leads to the question, Hey Harris, why don't you talk more on the show about when I should drop players?
15:47And the answer is that we'll get there, but like, it's hard to unilaterally say now everyone who has this player must drop him.
15:54It really depends on your league circumstances, how active your waiver wire is, what else you can get, you know, like go ahead, go ahead.
16:02What are you saying? Yeah. Every answer is contextual for sure.
16:05You know, should, should I be more aggressive in my poker game?
16:09Right. Who are your opponents? What are their stack sizes?
16:12You know, who's tilted, who's drinking? You know, I can't answer those questions.
16:16All we can do is give a set of guidelines, but you're always going to have to season it to taste.
16:23And I always say, you know, your room and you know, your league's habits better than Chris or I ever could.
16:30Right. Exactly. All right. So anyway, these are, these are droppable players maybe, but hopefully we, we hit on a few of them.
16:37Well, it's a pointless countdown. It does not matter at all, but it matters so much.
16:42Who is your number five late round player that you love drafting?
16:46So am I supposed to save the guy I like the most for the, for the number one?
16:51Is that what I'm supposed to do? Okay. In that case, I'm going to go with Emmett Johnson.
16:57Looks like he's won the number two job in Kansas city.
17:00It's behind Kenneth Walker, who was often hurt in Seattle.
17:03Of course, running backs get hurt. We understand that.
17:06What I like about Johnson is that he had a running and receiving profile in college.
17:11So I think he could have some diversity if he ever gets a role, all these running backs you take who are
17:18backups, their value is going to be tied significantly to if the starter gets hurt.
17:23And there's no way of knowing is Kenneth Walker going to get hurt?
17:27Jonathan Taylor going to get hurt? Is Saquon Barkley going to get hurt?
17:31There's so many different players who could fit this kind of a suit, but I'm at least encouraged that Emmett Johnson is a good football player.
17:39And he would be interesting the moment he stepped to that chair.
17:43So even though there's maybe 12, 14, 15 guys who fit this certain profile, he's one of the ones I'm quasi prioritizing.
17:50Cool. Yeah. If you wind up with them, I I've definitely gotten them a few times and I have them in a double digit rounds.
17:58Absolutely. And I don't think he goes there, you know, on average, I think you can almost get them whenever you want to take him.
18:05So yeah, it's kind of a black box and unknown, but why not?
18:09I completely agree. My number five, I put Jacoby Myers on my list.
18:14It's weird to me that the market decided, well, it's definitely Parker Washington and Brian Thomas, and it's definitely not Jacoby Myers
18:20because that wasn't really what it looked like in the second half after the trade last year.
18:26Like the player who ran the most routes after that trade, granted, Thomas was, you know, banged up for some of it, but it was Jacoby Myers.
18:34And whereas, you know, people I think think of him as a big slot, he moved all over and he's probably not
18:41your ex, but he's a good Z and he's a good Y and he's just good.
18:46And like, you know, I don't know if Brian Thomas goes bad this year, they could fire him into the sun.
18:53And if they fire him into the sun, Jacoby Myers gets real valuable.
18:57So it's just strange to me that some massive, I have Myers ranked third of the Jags receivers.
19:02I just have Myers. I think he's a top hundred player.
19:06And I think he's like in the one thirties right now.
19:09So I've snapped him up a lot. So nine games for Myers with Jacksonville, seven games started.
19:15We often talk about, well, receiver traded in the middle of the season, you know, different terminology.
19:20He's going to meet his teammates. You know, can we trust those guys?
19:24The pace he performed that, and this is over a half of a season.
19:28So it's not an insignificant sample that tracked to a full season of 79 catches, 920 yards, and just under six touchdowns for a team.
19:36He joined a bus. He hopped on that was already moving.
19:40And we like Liam Cohen. We like Trevor Lawrence.
19:42We don't know if we can trust Brian Thomas, Jr.
19:46Parker Washington is kind of the buzzy rising ADP player, but he's never, he's never done for a full season.
19:52It's not like Parker Washington is like this first round pick who can't fail.
19:56He's not Malik neighbors or somebody like that. Jacoby Myers is a perfect player that nobody's going to, it's not a hipster pick.
20:03Nobody's going to high five you. Nobody's going to be in pain because you picked Jacoby Myers.
20:09He's a boring veteran and he's going probably two or three rounds later than he should.
20:14I think he's a great way to get a cheap investment in an offense.
20:18It's probably pretty good. Okay. Nice. And by the way, if I say any of your guys just go, Hey, I had
20:25interrupt me and go ahead that guy. Cause I'd much rather, that was a great explanation.
20:30I'd much rather hear you talk than me talk.
20:33That's for sure. Um, who's your number four on this list?
20:36This is going to feel like cheating because there's so many good quarterbacks this year.
20:41You can do well at any price point. I often say it's the New York subway system.
20:46You miss a train. There's another train coming in five minutes.
20:50I've been in on Jordan love all summer. And now the situation, the drum beat probably gets a little bit stronger because they're running back room is unsettled.
20:59Who knows if the other guys can even play.
21:01But my question has always been, I see people who like Watson.
21:05I see people who like Reed. I see people who like golden.
21:09I certainly see people who like Tucker craft. None of that filters down the Jordan love.
21:14He has a quarterback five finish on his resume.
21:17The next year he got hurt early in the season.
21:20That season basically went out the window. I've realized it's been a very run heavy team in general, but the defense looks a little worse.
21:28Their main running back is in limbo. I think Lafleur is a good coach.
21:32They finally streamlined the pass catchers. I think they're going to play their main guys and not be as platoon heavy.
21:39Jordan love to me. Mostly you're going to draft multiple quarterbacks anyway.
21:42I think he's a perfect target for your second quarterback in the markets been giving you a giveaway price all summer.
21:49Yeah. I wish I could have gotten him higher in my ranks because he is more talent.
21:54I have him QB 17 and he's more talented than what I think typically think of QB 17 being last year was
22:01weird, but like, I won't even argue that they were all that run heavy.
22:06I mean, they were pretty run heavy, but like in ratio of run to pass, they were sixth.
22:11So it's not like first, you know, they were on the run side, but it's still more passes than runs.
22:17Come on. I mean, every team is more passes than runs.
22:21And you know, it's so the actual play itself I wrote about this in the almanac.
22:26The, the, the Pat Panthers loss, Greg Olson's doing that game and he keeps going like, uh, you know what?
22:32I don't understand why they're playing it so conservative.
22:35I don't understand why they're not going down the field.
22:38And that's not Jordan love. Jordan loves wants to go down the field.
22:42I think it's Matt LaFleur, um, like putting reins on and Utah.
22:46I felt like you saw at times where love would, would sort of like bristle and take deep shots.
22:52He probably got, he got just frustrated and bored with the run, run punt stuff or the run screen punt stuff.
22:59Um, I would love to think that somebody as smart as Matt LaFleur would have learned from his mistakes last year.
23:05I kind of thought he would get fired. I think he's going to get fired if they're not good this year and
23:12they might not be, but I'm absolutely with you that there's a, there's a little bit of a crease for there to
23:19be less running because you might not have a proven guy.
23:22And love is simply just people. He like, if you're making a list of like the 12 most talented quarterbacks in the
23:29league, he's, I think he's on it. Totally agree.
23:32And, and like you, I, my ranking is in that neighborhood where you have them.
23:37I might have them as QB 16. I want to move them up higher, but it speaks to the league is in
23:44a pretty good place where we have, I feel like we have 20 good quarterbacks right now or something in that range.
23:50And we'll see if, if maybe Shuck can be one of those guys, or I don't know if Arizona will have ever right answer.
23:58We'll see what Fernando Mendoza is, but for all the bellyaching sometimes that, Oh, the league is screwed at quarterback.
24:04I actually think we're in a pretty good place right now at the position.
24:09We are sponsored today by Viori and buddy. If you came out to watch me read on the road last week, if
24:16you're coming out to LA on Tuesday, you're going to see some Viori cause it is sharp.
24:21I'll be wearing the Ponto performance t-shirt and probably some Viori joggers too.
24:25I'm a walking billboard. If you haven't tried Viori's clothing, it's the best combination of comfort and performance I've ever felt.
24:32I wear these clothes to the gym and also to events where I read my book.
24:37It's great for lounging, looks great, so comfortable. Get the wife a pair of joggers.
24:41She will love them. Viori clothes are made with recycled material.
24:45The factory is compliant with high environmental standards. Viori donates to charities that clean the ocean.
24:50Great company. None of which would matter if the clothes weren't great, but they are so great.
24:55You will love them. Check out everything they've got at V-U-O-R-I.com slash Harris.
24:59Add the slash Harris and you'll get 20% off your first order.
25:03Nobody gets these clothes and doesn't like them. They're just really comfortable and really sharp for 20% off.
25:08Viori.com slash Harris. That's Viori.com slash Harris. Okay, we're back with Scott and we are talking about late round players that we
25:15ourselves are taking and my number four is Khalil Shakir, another veteran receiver.
25:19I wonder, did he make your list? I'll just ask and then if he didn't, I'll talk.
25:25Not on my list, but you know, you know, we talked to Kobe Myers, boring value veteran.
25:30I mean, that's certainly what Shakir is. Yeah, exactly.
25:33Like, okay, you're not getting a high ceiling, but if you've gone risky at receiver early in your draft, I love backing
25:40it up with one of Myers or Shakir. They just go too late and it's because they're unsexy.
25:45There isn't a huge ceiling for Shakir, but they're both just ballers.
25:49Like, you're never going to go wrong. I don't, you know, if they stay healthy, you're never going to go wrong with
25:56those guys because they're just really good football players that their teams really trust.
26:00And I know Shakir is more of a slot, pure slot guy than Myers is.
26:05And I know DJ Moore is there and I think that's great.
26:09I think it could help everybody, including Shakir. I just remember too many plays from last year, including, oh, Scott, the Patriots
26:16game, the fourth down play against the Patriots at home.
26:19That was, I mean, that game was over and Shakir just pulls one out of his butt.
26:24And, uh, you know, I'm not letting one play be the reason I draft a guy, but that was a great play.
26:31And I think he's actually a borderline great player.
26:34Who's just has a limited role in fantasy. That doesn't make him all that exciting, but this is, you know, like a one forties type player.
26:42This is where he's going and that's way too low.
26:45So like you said, not sexy, but again, roster construction might dictate.
26:49I doubt I take both Myers and Shakir, but I often take one of them.
26:54No, I'm totally with you on that. And, you know, exposure to a star quarterback and they don't have a deep receiving room behind Shakir.
27:02So I don't see any reason why he won't catch 70 balls again.
27:06Yeah. It's, I mean, we, we talked a lot about Skylar Bell and the off season cause we, we trust Matt Waldman's
27:12evaluations and he loved Bell, but it just, as far as I'm, I guess I'm not like fully plugged in on Bill's
27:19training camp stuff, but I, have you heard anything about Skylar Bell?
27:23Just the slightest. I don't think it's going to be a story this year.
27:28That's my feeling on Bell. Yeah. And Keon Coleman, the little black backpack.
27:32We're still waiting for that to happen, right? He's a basketball player.
27:35Maybe he's, you know, he needs to get back to his basketball roots.
27:39Where's defenders like a backpack. That's, that's supposed to be a good thing.
27:43I guess that was the big draft evaluation of, of Keon Coleman.
27:47All right. Uh, so I've, I've gone kind of boring with my, my first two.
27:52I actually have a fair number of boring picks here, but I got a couple that are fun.
27:58How about your number three? Yeah. I got a super boring guy.
28:01Number one, although I'm trying to get them in every draft, I'm going to stay in the division and stay at the
28:08position, but take a different kind of player. Cause Shakir Myers, they were four guys.
28:1380 Mitchell is not a four guy. 80 Mitchell is going to drive you nuts sometimes, but I still think he's a bet on talent guy.
28:21He can get deep. He's it's only his age 24 season.
28:25I thought the jets did a nice job stealing him in that trade with the Colts.
28:30It's kind of as a throw in mostly they're trying to get the draft capital and Mitchell is going to be on the field.
28:37Obviously Garrett Wilson is their alpha and they would like Kenyon Sadiq to become a major thing at tight end.
28:43We'll see how healthy he is. He had a great combine, interesting rookie taken in the first round, but we're looking for
28:50somebody who could pop somebody who may have a decent snap share may get, I don't know, five to seven targets a week.
28:57I realized we don't know what Gino Smith is.
29:00He was bad last year. He wasn't that long ago.
29:03He was actually pretty good. You know, he's already had a run with the jets.
29:08As Salfino always says, you know, people just look at the jets sometimes just say, LOL jets and just look the other way.
29:15Just assume nothing can ever work out with this team.
29:18But I think it's too early to say Mitchell can't play.
29:22And I feel like he has a pretty solidified role here.
29:25So I'm willing to kick the tires on somebody.
29:28I'm never going to play him in September. I'm just going to put them on my bench, see what happens.
29:34And I'm happy to cut him if two or three weeks go by and he hasn't really shown much.
29:40I certainly won't need him in my starting lineup, but I think he's young enough and athletic enough that I could still see some upside here.
29:48A hundred percent. You can still see upside a hundred percent.
29:52You know, people mature at different ages. And I think it's pretty clear that the problem with Mitchell through the college evaluation,
29:59through the time in Indianapolis was maturity. And I, you know, he has a serious condition.
30:04He had, he had type one diabetes and sometimes like didn't treat it very well.
30:08Like that was kind of where the maturity came in.
30:12He just like, wasn't vigilant about being consistent with it the way you have to be to be an athlete.
30:18And then, I mean, it's so funny, the play that got everybody hating him and the play that basically got him traded out in Indianapolis.
30:26It was an unbelievable play. Do you remember that touchdown that obviously wasn't because he freaking dropped the ball, but do you remember the actual play?
30:34For sure. Yeah. Like a 50, 50 ball makes the catch like on the dead run, he spins away.
30:40He's gone except for then holds out the ball out in front of him because he's going to be cool and just
30:47like bumbles it out of the end zone. But apparently then, you know, like was humiliated and got a lot of grief
30:54on social media and apparently sulked in the facility and couldn't get over it.
30:58And the Colts were like, all right, we're just never going to get through this guy.
31:03So of course, you know, I just, it would be, it would be too bad if that was the end of his story.
31:10And again, the age, right? It feels like he's been around long enough.
31:14He should be 27. He's 23, 24. You know what I mean?
31:18You know, it's the story. I guess this is age 24 season.
31:22So I'm certainly not willing to, and the guy, you know, he was good enough to be recruited by Georgia, transferred to Texas.
31:29And he played in, you know, Primo college program.
31:32So I'm, there's never been a question of the talent here.
31:35Yeah. And of course, like, I mean, you know, I sometimes hear people like I'm making up a listener in my head
31:42to be mad at, but I hear people in my head going, but it's Geno Smith, how in the world we can't get him to support Garrett Wilson.
31:51You said this already, but I'm like, yeah, cool.
31:54That's why we're saying take him in the 14th round.
31:57You know, like we understand this is an imperfect profile and a lot of it's likelier that it goes wrong than not, or else he'd be going higher.
32:06But I definitely understand, like, this is the opposite.
32:08Like you said, where if your roster construction kind of wants you to take a few higher upside shots, AD Mitchell is a good idea for sure.
32:17My number three, I, I don't know if it's boring.
32:20I guess it kind of is. I I've been taking Woody marks in so many drafts.
32:25Do you ever take them? I almost put them on this list.
32:29Oh, okay, cool. Um, I, I, you know, I've said it, I think, uh, I can't remember what I've said in person
32:36and cause I've just did all those events last week, but maybe I said it a bunch on the show too.
32:42So I'm more interested in what you have to say about it.
32:46But it's like Blake Corum scares the bejesus out of everybody.
32:49Oh, you can't take Kyron Williams that high Blake Corum.
32:53And I get it. Dave Montgomery doesn't go as high as Kyron Williams, but there just seems to be, everything's a committee
32:59except for like three teams or four teams. And there seems to be some teams where people get worried about the committee
33:06and other, they completely dismiss the second guy. And I don't think Woody marks was great as a lead guy.
33:13I also don't think he was terrible. I did a film futures on him back in January, February before they had Dave Montgomery and that team.
33:21And I came away thinking, you know, undersized, but understood the assignment and mostly didn't bounce everything outside.
33:26And, you know, that wasn't good for his health because he took a lot of shots, but he's also really quick and he's a pretty good runner.
33:35And then there is the aspect of potentially him being the third down back.
33:39And, and I just really hesitate to believe that Dave Montgomery is a three down back at this time in his career.
33:46And if he is, I don't know if he'll last.
33:49And I think this is probably some kind of split.
33:52And of course Montgomery should go before him, but I'm not just handcuffing marks to Montgomery.
33:57I'm often just taking marks by himself. It's a play towards what if Houston's got a better offense than we think.
34:04And, you know, you get a guy who's getting 40% of the work and he's pretty good in scoring touchdowns.
34:10And it's also a bench spot that you can, you know, in case Montgomery gets hurt, I think you've got a potential,
34:17you know, it would be the number one waiver at that week.
34:21But like, what's your logic? Am I, am I on to something when I'm just explaining why I put him on my list?
34:28No, we're going to share marks here. I, again, I almost had him on my list.
34:33If I went 60, he might've been the sixth guy.
34:36I love that he steps on the Mississippi state campus and catches 60 passes as a freshman.
34:42And through his five-year college career, he had 261 receptions.
34:45He had one year with 83 catches. He's very comfortable in that part of the game.
34:50He's credible in blitz pickup. Montgomery is never going to be a bell cow on this team.
34:55He, as you said, most of the teams in the league have some kind of platoon.
35:00I will say I am somebody who's saying all those quorum things that you mentioned.
35:05That's actually something I've been saying a lot. And Blake Quorum is one of my guys if today's assignment had been different,
35:12I would have found a reason to talk about Blake Quorum.
35:15I guess I'm kind of squeezing him in any way, even though he's certainly not going outside the top a hundred, but why not?
35:23Woody marks, right. And this offense, we saw the worst form of it.
35:27You would think some natural regression just maybe could kick them up a half notch.
35:31I realized they're a team that wants to win 1913.
35:34They have the great defense and all that, but yeah, Woody marks may be in a medium or deeper league.
35:41He may be quasi playable already because he may have seven to 12 touches in his back pocket weekly and Montgomery and
35:48an older and granted marks came into the NFL at an advanced age too.
35:52So he's not that much younger than Montgomery, but he's certainly younger.
35:56And that's the way to bet. You have to play fantasy football, like an actuary.
36:00Sometimes I think people just decided marks played last year and he was just okay.
36:05And people decide, okay, Woody marks no upside. I don't, I think that's completely missing the plot here.
36:11Yeah, I think that's wrong. And it, I think the, I'm curious about the method.
36:15I mean, you're not one of them, so I can't really ask you, but I'm curious about the method by which people
36:22acquired the opinion that Woody marks was terrible and needed to be replaced because that's not what I saw.
36:28And like that was a struggling offensive line by the end of the year was a struggling quarterback.
36:34And I'm not marks had a fumble in the playoffs and that was really bad.
36:39And I like, I'm not trying to say he was all world, but I didn't think he was terrible.
36:45Like if you would, if you'd pulled me going to the playoffs where the Texans were the hottest team in the league
36:52basically, and they route the Steelers on the road, I would have been like, yeah, my expectation is there's a chance.
36:58I mean, they're going to pair him with somebody, but my expectation is Woody marks probably is involved in the starting running back situation.
37:06And then they get David Montgomery, which is, it could have been worse for Woody marks.
37:11Like he's Montgomery's good, but he's not super special.
37:13And suddenly marks was terrible last year. Have you heard that?
37:17Yeah. Well, I think that the YPC, YPC throws people off, right?
37:21They see three point six yards a carry and they're like, okay, that's it.
37:25Forget it. And as you mentioned, the, the Houston loss to new England, he goes 14 for 17 on the ground.
37:32He loses a fumble, but by the way, I mean, the entire Houston offense was terrible.
37:37That was the worst game of CJ Stroud's career by a fair margin.
37:41He basically handed the game to new England. Their offensive line was a mess that day.
37:46I mean, okay. Glorious win for the Patriots. It didn't end well for new England, but the AFC playoffs went pretty well,
37:53but you just, sometimes you just have to give a guy a pass for that.
37:57I mean, let's remember your night. You mentioned the Pittsburgh game 19 for one 12 and a touchdown against Pittsburgh.
38:04If they had somehow lost that game, we would have gone in the off season thinking, okay, maybe Woody marks is the right answer here.
38:11Yeah. All right. Who is number two on your late round players?
38:15You love. Yeah. This feels a little gross because I don't know what the Raiders passing game is going to be past
38:22Brock Bowers, but they're an NFL team. I like Clint Kubiak.
38:25I would hope that some version of cousins and Mendoza is better than what Geno Smith was last year.
38:31So I'm going to leave the light on for Trey Tucker.
38:35We saw that three touchdown game out of nowhere last year.
38:38It's not an offense I really want to invest in, but the thing is people are just Tucker's available when people are
38:45drafting guys that are number three receivers and speculation running backs.
38:49And I just feel like he could be their best wide out.
38:52Now it's, you have to take that with a grain of salt because Bowers is going to get a million targets.
38:59And if Gentry is healthy, he's certainly going to catch passes as well.
39:03But I feel like a number one receiver on a team that at least improved its offensive infrastructure.
39:09I have to have some respect for. Yeah. It's interesting.
39:12Have we gotten to the point where people have realized that Jalen Naylor is not any good and we're moving on?
39:18Like there was a time where I kept seeing Naylor go ahead of Tucker and I kept thinking to myself, why are you doing that?
39:26It's not that I've seen Tucker be great. And I mean, you know, Naylor could turn out fine, but yeah, I think
39:33right now I'm just, as we're talking, I'm looking it up.
39:37It does seem like Tucker is now in live drafts on Fantasy Pros going ahead of Naylor, which that is as it should be in my opinion.
39:45That was a summer correction. I agree with you.
39:48Naylor, I don't know what he did in Minnesota that people got all excited about.
39:53I certainly didn't see it, but I feel like the market had that wrong maybe six weeks ago, a month ago, and that's been ironed out now.
40:01But even then, Tucker is, again, he's not a hipster pick.
40:04You're not going to win any cred. You're not going to make anybody angry.
40:09Nobody's going to offer you anything for him. You're just picking him up much like the 80 mental case and you're going
40:16to give him a few weeks on your bench.
40:18And it doesn't have, it's a very short leash.
40:21I'm totally fine to cut him for things that you need to address in September.
40:26But I also think we live in a world where he could have, you know, 950 yards and seven or eight touchdowns.
40:33I think that's in the range of outcomes for him.
40:36Yeah. Fast guy, like rocked up fast guy. I'm into it.
40:39Um, I like I've seen it. I've seen it too often where what's the difference between wide receiver 17 and wide receiver 42.
40:47He has two extra touchdowns. That's it. Right. And Tucker has that, right?
40:51I mean, Tucker, Tucker has that in his bag to go get those long touchdowns.
40:55Also, you just make, you just want to tell yourself a plausible story.
41:00Even if Tucker does quote unquote pop, he's going to be reserved for you.
41:04He's going to be somebody you use during the biweek season.
41:07I'm just looking to tell myself a plausible story that these guys could do something productive when I might need them in
41:14week seven or week 11, or I don't know when the Raiders biweek is, but even if he hits the high end
41:21of his range, he's just still going to be your wide receiver four, wide receiver five.
41:26I don't see him somehow creeping into the top three of your depth charts.
41:31So just as long as your expectations are in line, although again, I do think there's a whiff of upside here because
41:37I, I can tell myself a story where he might have a hundred plus targets.
41:42We are sponsored again by Blueland. I use Blueland cleaning supplies aboard the yacht.
41:46I just did a load of laundry yesterday with the Blueland Power Duo tablets, really just so great.
41:52As with all Blueland products, the Power Duo laundry tablets don't require you to throw away plastic containers and they themselves are plastic and microplastic free.
42:00You don't have to choose between a detergent that works on tough stains and odors and one that's made with thoughtfully chosen ingredients.
42:07And instead of repeatedly buying plastic bottles, you just use tablets like I just did yesterday, which means we can all cut down on waste at home.
42:16I'm not kidding. I have not thrown away a plastic cleaning supply bottle at home in years because I have reusable containers from Blueland.
42:23And when I run out, I buy more, no plastic involved.
42:27And Blueland is a certified B Corp and Leaping Bunny cruelty free certified.
42:31Their formulas are EPA Safer Choice certified and many products have also earned Cradle to Cradle's Gold Material Health Certificate.

42:47That's 15% off your first order. Blueland.com slash Harris.
42:50Okay, we're back with Scott and we have a few more names to get to in the late round players that we like to draft.
42:58And I am of course scared of the environment, but that's why he goes very, very late.
43:03I have Denzel Boston at number two on the list.
43:06I have decided to take him, well, maybe not decided, but just like I go by my own ranks and I wound
43:13up taking him basically late in every draft I do these days.
43:17And it's interesting. I put Boston and Concepcion back to back.
43:20I have Concepcion one spot ahead. They're like, I don't know, you know, I can't remember 59 and 60.
43:26I can't remember something like that. You'd think as a person who has a podcast about this stuff, I would be, have that information.
43:34It was 54 and 55. I've now looked up my own ranks.
43:38And the funny thing is the Concepcion got a lot of pub and a lot of hype and is going way ahead of where Denzel Boston goes.
43:46And I've actually seen plenty of Browns beat reporters saying that Boston's been the more electric player and Boston is more the
43:53reason why the Browns parted with Cedric Tillman. And nobody really knows what's going to happen.
43:58And my God, the quarterback situation is utter hot garbage.
44:01But again, we're talking 14th round pick here. It's, it's weird to me that there wound up being early so far, like
44:08a pretty big split between the two guys. Agree.
44:11Yeah. I have heard a good drumbeat from Boston this summer.
44:14Do you see, do you, can you squint and see any upside with Sanders?
44:19I, we know Watson is going to be a hot mess.
44:22I almost think that they're throwing Watson out there just to be terrible and just to kick him to the curb or
44:29at least put him to the bench and to just giving him one chance to fail so they can be done with it.
44:36I, I'd like to think that's what the case is.
44:39It's hard to, I think you look at the Browns and assume they're doing anything that makes any sense, but coach better coach Monken running the offense.
44:48Probably. I agree with you that if you're a conceptual guy, tell me why he's definitely better than Denzel Boston.
44:54I realized Boston didn't have the greatest combine, but he's six foot four.
44:58He's not getting any smaller. And I think he's been a quick study this year.
45:03We saw how quickly onboarded Fannin last season. It kills me not to be drafting Fannin because I, again, the quarterback room
45:10and he actually has an expectant ADP, but this is a case where the market has decided conception is the guy you
45:17want and Boston is not the guy you want.
45:19And I agree with your ranking, which is what I think it's more like a either or, you know, 51 49 situation.
45:26Yeah. If I could put a number on it, it's, it's right now.
45:30Concepcion 113th overall on live ADP, Denzel Boston 156th overall, which is just, just odd decision that somebody somewhere is banging a table for Concepcion.
45:38It could work out that way. I guess, I guess the logic is, well, these quarterbacks are so inept that the only
45:45thing they can do is throw the short ones to Fannin and the slot guy and the slot guy is Concepcion.
45:52And I go, Oh, I mean, okay, but really it's not probably going to be quite that like strict, you know, they're
45:59going to move everybody all over everywhere. And also I really love it when my guy scores a touchdown and if there
46:05are any touchdowns in the red zone, the six foot four guy might get them.
46:10And I just don't think anybody knows for sure what's going to happen.
46:14You posed kind of the killer question right at the beginning of your response, which is, is does Sanders and I guess
46:21by proxy Watson have, have any kind of upside to have a more functional offense?
46:26The answer is probably yes. There's, you know, I'm not going to make a bet that they're the 32nd best pass offense in the league.
46:34You know, I'm not going to take them versus the field.
46:37Someone will figure out how to be worse. Do I think it's on the way to being even league average?
46:43I'm going to go ahead and say from what I saw with Sanders last year, probably not.
46:49He's just ponderous. Everything just takes so long. He waits so long.
46:52Pats the ball, pats the ball. It's all a beat late.
46:56Yeah. Yeah. And like, probably not. The answer is probably not, which is why these guys are, you know, it's why Boston's
47:03my 14th round, 15th round pick, but, um, you know, I'll give it, I'll give it the old puncher's chance with the
47:10new coaching staff and cut everybody associated with it in week three.
47:13If it's awful, like I, this is the kind of bet I like to make.
47:18And it's funny how, you know, you've picked a jet and a Raider.
47:22I just picked a Brown. This is where value is.
47:25I say it every year. People decide it's impossible that teams can be good.
47:30And then some of them turn out to be okay.
47:33Also the quarterback room was a clown car last year.
47:36And Fannin had a great season. Yeah. Yeah. That's a great point.
47:40All right. We are at your number one. He's boring.
47:43That's what I understand. You said earlier, but he's your number one guy.
47:47You love, you love grabbing late in drafts. Yeah.
47:50We already have proof of concept that Jawan Johnson can play.
47:53I mean, last year they give him the contract 77 catches, 889 yards.
47:57I realized you'd like more than three touchdowns. Tyler Shuck was probably better than people expected.
48:02Kellen Moore seemed like a right answer. Head coach, they play at a quick pace.
48:07And Jordan Tyson isn't going to play for a couple of months.
48:11I, I don't think he's actually drive. People are drafting thinking, okay, I'm going to crush in the playoffs when Jordan Tyson comes back.
48:18That's not going to be me. If he's old, I'll beck him 2.0.
48:22I'm going to lose that bet. But Jawan Johnson is being drafted in the teens.
48:27Sometimes the late teens at tight end early in the season, you can get them in the Yahoo drafts outside tight end 20.
48:34That's corrected a little bit, but I have them, I think at tight end 11 or 12, but just far ahead of the market ADP.
48:42I have a lot of Jawan Johnson shares. And I think he fits whatever your tight end ethos is, whether you like
48:49to go early, you like to go medium, or maybe you're, you're drafting somebody, a buddy of mine just drafted George Kittle
48:56yesterday, and he needs somebody to get him through the first quarter of the season until he knows what Kittle is.
49:02And Jawan Johnson is the perfect guy for that role.
49:06So everybody listening to the podcast is rolling their eyes because I have Jawan Johnson as my nine among tight ends.
49:12Wow. Well, I finally found somebody who likes Jawan Johnson more than I do.
49:17Good. That's great. I'm glad to be aligned on that.
49:20Now this makes me even, I'm going to move them up.
49:23I'm going to, you know, I'm going to, whatever Harris says, I'm going to move him one slot higher.
49:29How about that? You have to be the highest, no matter what you have to be the highest.
49:35No, I'm just kidding. I'm glad we agree though.
49:37Yeah. It's funny because I have Brenton strange eight.
49:40And so, so strange, you know, winds up being the one I talk about more because, you know, he's just a little
49:47higher and therefore he wound up being the tight end flag player, but Johnson absolutely could have been as well.
49:53Very well said by you fully agree. The situation is great for him.
49:58I think we said it on the show last week, maybe like one of his college quarterbacks was in fact Tyler Shuck for a little while at Oregon.
50:06It worked great. He's essentially a big slot receiver.
50:09He had 77 catches last year. Did you mention like it was, it was terrific.
50:14And he is terrific. Like he's a good player.
50:17He, he makes like crazy one-handed catches. He's, he's also funny that he's 30.
50:21I'm like, Oh, John Johnson. Sure. He's 25, right?
50:24No, he's not. We've been at this for a while, but yeah, I, I, I like it.
50:29I, did you even mention no, no smiling goon Taysom Hill?
50:33You know, like there's, there's, there's a lot. I hadn't even thought about that, but yeah, again, what I love about this
50:39pick too, is unlike a lot of these guys where we're speculating and we're squinting, you have proof of concept.
50:46Jawan Johnson was really good last year. And I always forget because, you know, Shuck was in college, you know, longer than the guys from animal house.
50:54I forget that he was actually at Oregon for a second and Jawan Johnson was there.
50:59So at least it's, it makes sense that they hit the ground running last season and they looked comfortable together.
51:05At least they already knew each other by name.
51:08They'd already run a few reps together. So that, that certainly doesn't hurt, but yeah, Jawan Johnson is, uh, it's, it sounds
51:15like unless I'm in a league with you, he's going to, he's going to be one of my most rostered players.
51:22And I'm, and I'm, and again, I'm even people will say, well, would you be comfortable starting Jawan Johnson in week one?
51:29Yes, absolutely. That would be me too. Absolutely. I would.
51:32I just don't think there's a big difference among the options there, but Johnson, you said it just did it.
51:38And they, they, the saints just took Oscar Delp.
51:41I don't think that's a threat right away. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I don't think that's a threat.
51:47Like what's your stance on Tyson, by the way, are you drafting him?
51:51Are you leaving the door open for him? Are you fading him?
51:55You know, I was super fading him early on and now I still don't get him, but I think he's more now like a what?
52:0310th, 11th round. So it's hard to really super fade that, you know?
52:07Um, I, I, I think it's fine if someone wants to stash him, but it's tough.
52:12Like especially when the bi-weeks start coming around, if your league doesn't have a reserve spot, you know, this kid came with a reputation for injury.
52:20Like he had a hard time in college from what I understand.
52:24He's a good prospect, but, um, yeah, I'm with you that I'll put him, my overall rank is lower than his, even
52:31his current ADP, at least like I'm looking at the live again, live draft on fantasy pros.
52:36Um, but I don't, but it's not outrageous. So like if someone stashed him in the 11th round, I wouldn't be mad.
52:43How about you? Well, you hit on in part of that, you hit on what's, which kind of my ethos here, which is okay, sure.
52:51He looks like a fine stash now when nothing's wrong with your team, everything's going to be wrong with your team in a few weeks.
52:59Look at how injury plagued the league is now in the summer where none of the key guys play a lot in the exhibition season.
53:06And the entire summer, in addition to just practicing and getting ready is all about trying to keep people healthy and we
53:13still can't help people from breaking and soon soon.
53:16The real games are going to start and he's an easy stash now when nothing is wrong with your team.
53:22There's no red ink on your team. That's going to change.
53:26And I don't mean to laugh about it because the NFL is a physical game.
53:30It's an injury game. And then you're going to have to ask yourself tough questions and God forbid you get off to
53:37like a one in three start or something. And then that fifth week comes up and you have guys who aren't playing for buys.
53:45You have guys who aren't playing for injuries. And then it's a lot harder to hold a player like this.
53:51And you know what the worst scenario is, is that you draft Tyson, you can't hold on to Tyson and then somebody
53:58else gets Tyson, you know, somebody else who didn't invest in them, didn't have to hold them, didn't have to use their
54:05storage up on him, picks him up off waivers in week seven or whatever.
54:09And maybe he's useful in the second half of the year.
54:13You know, what Roger Sterling say in Mad Men, the only thing worse not getting what you want is somebody else getting it.
54:20Right. I just don't forget how much of a, a sea of problems you're going to have in fantasy football by like week three or week four.
54:28It's just inevitable. And then in October it becomes the, oh, this is the strangest season.
54:33Every season is a strangest season in its own way.
54:37I often say I don't draft into injuries because injuries are going to find you.
54:41I'm going to have to be in a room that's really fading Tyson before I'm tempted.
54:46So my number one, I guess he's kind of boring, but I think he might be a starting running back.
54:53Tyler Algier. I just get him. I get him in every draft right now.
54:57He's, he's easily like, I mean, he goes around where Jordan Tyson goes.
55:01I'm going to take Algier a thousand times over Jordan Tyson.
55:04You just don't have to spend any kind of price to get him.
55:08I think he probably is the Cardinals week one starter and maybe completely by himself because Jeremiah Love has a high ankle sprain.
55:16I just think we just don't know it yet.
55:19Like they, they're having a hard time. You know, at the very beginning, they couldn't prevent people from learning.
55:24What did Rivers McCown say? We're about to hear about the lowest high ankle sprain in NFL history when it comes to Jeremiah Love.
55:32And besides the fact, like even if he's fine, he plays week one.
55:36Cool. What happens the moment someone ankle tackles him?
55:39You know, I just think that's absolutely not baked into Love's price.
55:43And I think it's absolutely not baked into Algier's price.
55:46Now that we have the news that James Connor begins the year on injured reserve and has to miss at least four
55:53games and didn't do anything in August. So we have no guarantee he comes back at all.
55:58Trey Benson's already out for the year. This massive log jam that we were just like, what are the Cardinals even doing?
56:05It cleared up pretty good, didn't it? Probably a little too much.
56:09I have Love as a bust. I don't like his price.
56:12And I'm taking Algier all over the place. I'm strongly with you on Love being somebody I'm not going to draft.
56:19And you're right. Everything. If you're an Algier guy, everything felt right.
56:22The presumed starter hurt. The veteran with status IR.
56:25We knew they had to do something with the depth chart because they didn't want to keep four running backs.
56:31But you know, Benson doesn't even make the team.
56:34And Algier's a good football player. They gave him a real contract.
56:38Not one of these, okay, just come in and make the minimum or a little bit over it.
56:44They actually paid him real money. He can help you right away.
56:47And who's to say, you can't make any assumptions on when Love comes back or when he comes back to full throttle.
56:54As you mentioned, easy re-injury scenario. You can paint the Cardinals as the dumbest team running Love into the ground in an exhibition game.
57:02It's a very Arizona Cardinals thing to do. But you know, maybe next year, your market now, we can be on the
57:09show in the summer where you talk about the boring veterans because we've certainly talked about a lot of them.
57:15Jacoby Myers, Juwan Johnson, Tyler Algier. But man, you know, this idea, you mentioned this earlier, you teased this earlier about the
57:22idea that if you have some maybe risky upside picks that you smooth them out with the floor guys, you know, the
57:29Myers' and stuff like that, the Shakir's. And I totally agree with that, that you're making a cocktail here and you have to have different ingredients.
57:37And this idea that I'm just going to make hair on fire upside picks every pick of my draft.
57:43That's wrong. You have to, there's a mix involved here.
57:46There's a balance as a yin and a yang.
57:49And I agree with some of those themes that you've put forward with the guys that you mentioned.
57:54And I think Tyler Algier certainly fits that suit as well.
57:58I agree, except for I'll give Algier just a little bit of a chance.
58:02He's been a pretty good player. I mean, does, do we not remember Bajon Robinson's first year when the Cardinals, I mean,
58:09the Falcons couldn't get away from using Algier a ton?
58:12And do we remember last year? Like if David Montgomery is a good player, why isn't Tyler Algier a good player?
58:19They're kind of the same guy. Chris Carson, Chris Rodriguez, they're all kind of the same thing.
58:24It's along an axis. And I get some of like Montgomery's probably a little more explosive than a couple of those guys.
58:31But I think Algier isn't that boring. And especially if Jeremiah Live's hurt.
58:35Ramondre Stevenson, right? I mean, just another good running back, never getting into the Hall of Fame.
58:40You're probably not even like a Pro Bowl guy, but Algier has a thousand yard season on his resume.
58:46He was a good player at BYU. I almost said UW at BYU.
58:51I'm with you on Tyler Algier. And you know, the 5'10", 225, that's kind of the prototype for a running back in the NFL.
58:58Somebody you think can handle 15 or 20 touches.
59:01I think Tyler Algier has been underrated most of his career.
59:04Well, this was very fun. We got some good names.
59:07The honorable mentions that I'll just mention that are going in double-digit rounds that are flag players.
59:13I mentioned Brenton Strange already. Keaton Mitchell in double-digit rounds.
59:16If he lasts that long, I get him there.
59:19Chris Rodriguez mentioned him. Take him in double-digit rounds.
59:22And Matthew Stafford would be my quarterback nominee. It's crazy to me that he goes in the double-digit rounds.
59:27I mean, I guess maybe he goes more like in the ninth now.
59:32People are maybe getting a little wiser, but I'll still just mention him.
59:36Did you have any other honorable mentions? I almost said Keaton Mitchell.
59:39I almost put him on this list. Of course, we'll bet on everything that Mike McDaniel is betting on.
59:45He is Josh McDaniels. We hate him as a head coach.
59:49We love him as an offensive designer. He's going to get that.
59:53By the way, I cannot stop drafting Ladd McConkie.
59:55I think he's going to have a great season.
59:58Perfect fourth-round pick. Thought about Ray Davis. Thought about Mike Washington.
60:02Mitchell would have been probably the next name. We went one deeper.
60:05Mitchell would have been the guy I would have brought up.
60:09Love it. Well, I appreciate you doing this, Scott.
60:12And of course, you can play Fantasy on Yahoo.
60:14Many, many of us do. And you can consume lots of things that Scott writes and says at Yahoo Fantasy.
60:21And also, give him a subscribe over at the Breakfast Table podcast with Michael Selfino.
60:25What a pleasure to catch up with you, my friend.
60:29And we will do it during the season. Thank you.
60:32I really enjoyed it, Chris. Thanks for having me.
60:34And thank you so much for listening. Let me thank the sponsors.
60:38As you know, without sponsors, we don't have a show.
60:41We had Viori. You've heard me talk about them a lot.
60:45You should really check out the clothes. They're great.
60:48Blueland. If you feel bad about the state of recycling in general and plastic and all that stuff, boy, it's an easy thing you can do.
60:56It's really changed. I mean, I've thrown away a lot less plastic.
61:00Check out Blueland and leaguelegacy.io. It's my just reminder here at the end.
61:04Leaguelegacy.io. Check it out. Incredibly reasonable price for a league.
61:07And it's just so fun. You'll get lost in it for like hours.
61:11You'll send it to your league mates like everybody can see it.
61:15And everyone will just laugh and laugh at the history in your league.
61:19It is really great. And we love John. I appreciate you, John, very much for sponsoring.
61:24You can find information about the sponsors in today's show.
61:27Let's bribe somebody, shall we? The random number generator for a Zoom session with me sometime this week has landed upon Guillaume Boutet in Quebec.
61:35So Guillaume, congratulations. I have emailed you by now, but congratulations.
61:38And let's talk. Let's Zoom. We will do it sometime soon.
61:41So we'll set that up. Remember, if you'd like to be bribed and maybe win something over the rest of the week,
61:48you can do so by pre-ordering the book today or just ordering it from tomorrow onward and sending me a screen cap and then you're entered.
61:57Amazon, don't do Amazon. This week, you can do Amazon anytime next week and beyond.
62:01But this first week, we're trying not to do Amazon because it's just a different list.
62:06It doesn't count. So like all the Amazon stuff won't count.
62:10That is going to do it for this episode.
62:13And I guess I should mention, we still do have some donated copies.
62:17So if you would like a copy and you'd like to be counted on the bestseller list, but you can't afford it right now, no problem.
62:25Send me a note and we'll make it happen.
62:28Coming up on Tuesday's episode, what if we're wrong?
62:30All this talk and all these suppositions and all these loud exhortations for players.
62:35Well, what if we're wrong? That's the question. Players we're worried we're wrong about.
62:39And my guest will be Ben Gretsch for that one.
62:42And it will be really fun as well. And let me remind you one more time, if you're in Los Angeles, come
62:49to the reading on Tuesday night, 7pm Frogtown Brewery.
62:52I would love to see you there. Until then, thanks again so much for listening.
62:57Your hat is awesome. You're awesome for wearing it.
