Blake Corum

NegativeValue59:21

The source notes that Blake Corum is currently cost-prohibitive as a handcuff for Kyren Williams.

Insight page

Brenton Strange

PositiveUsage10:12

Brenton Strange performed well during joint practices with the Buccaneers while Brian Thomas was dealing with a shoulder issue.

Insight page

Brian Robinson

PositiveValue58:52

The source notes they have drafted a lot of Brian Robinson in the 8th-9th round range as a valuable handcuff, even for those who do not have Bijan Robinson.

Insight page

Brian Thomas Jr.

PositiveInjury9:59

Brian Thomas suffered a shoulder injury during the first of two joint practices with the Buccaneers, but he returned to drills the following day, suggesting the injury is likely minor.

Insight page

Chris Bell

PositiveSleeper42:35

Bell is a Dolphins rookie receiver who was widely considered a first-round talent before an ACL tear. Despite the hype around Caleb Douglas, the source suggests Bell has higher talent potential. He is not draftable in standard leagues but is a stash candidate for the end of the bench or an IR spot.

Insight page

Christian McCaffrey

NegativeValue57:00

The source identifies Christian McCaffrey as a player worth handcuffing due to his high draft capital and checkered injury history.

Insight page

Cyrus Allen

NegativeSleeper37:28

Allen is a Chiefs rookie receiver who has impressed in camp and received praise from Patrick Mahomes. While the source is fading the Chiefs' offense overall, Allen is a name to monitor as a potential waiver wire add if he earns significant playing time in September.

Insight page

Daniel Jones

PositiveProjection44:30

The source highlights Daniel Jones as a super-deep sleeper who was an every-week fantasy starter before his injury last year. While there is uncertainty regarding his rushing production and health, he is currently going undrafted (outside the top 200) and could be a viable streamer if he starts week one.

Insight page

David Montgomery

PositiveUsage15:21

David Montgomery had some good stretch runs during practice against the Panthers.

Insight page

DJ Giddens

NegativeDepth Chart53:47

The source suggests that DJ Giddens' roster spot may be in jeopardy following the emergence of Seth McGowan.

Insight page

Dontayvion Wicks

PositiveValue54:19

Wicks is an overlooked candidate who could step up as the Eagles' number two or three receiver. Despite concerns about his hands, he is a talented route runner who could see significant targets if injuries occur to the starters.

Insight page

Emanuel Wilson

NegativeDepth Chart60:36

Wilson is considered a potential contributor in the Seahawks' backfield. The source ranks him ahead of George Holani and views him as potentially draftable in very deep leagues, though the backfield remains highly uncertain.

Insight page

George Holani

NegativeSleeper60:05

Holani is a deep sleeper in the Seahawks' backfield. While the source prefers Emmanuel Wilson, there is conflicting reporting on the depth chart, making Holani a stash candidate in deep leagues if the situation remains fluid.

Insight page

Jahan Dotson

NegativeRole49:30

The source identifies Jahan Dotson as the current number two wide receiver for the Falcons, noting that while he is not a recommended draft pick, he could be usable if the offense is capable. The source emphasizes this is the last time they will recommend him.

Insight page

James Conner

NegativeInjury14:04

James Conner is not participating in practice, and Christopher Harris notes it sounds unlikely he will be ready for the start of the season, though it is not yet confirmed.

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

NegativeProjection11:57

Following reports of a poor offensive line performance and a struggling Commanders offense during joint practices with the Ravens, Christopher Harris suggests that while he isn't dropping Daniels significantly, he is comfortable keeping him ranked at QB7 and avoiding him at his current market price.

Insight page

Jonathan Taylor

NegativeUsage55:36

The source notes that Jonathan Taylor has a high workload and a history of injuries, making his backup a relevant fantasy consideration for those who draft him.

Insight page

Jordan James

NegativeDepth Chart31:47

Jordan James is being monitored as a potential option in the 49ers' backfield, but his status remains uncertain as he works to return to the field.

Insight page
NegativeRole33:50

The source remains cautious on James due to a rib injury that sidelined him for a month, making it difficult to project his role. While there is speculation about the 49ers' backfield, the source has not drafted him and notes that the depth chart remains unclear.

Insight page

Josh Jacobs

PositiveInjury13:24

Josh Jacobs returned to practice from a calf injury and looked good, though Christopher Harris notes lingering uncertainty regarding a potential suspension.

Insight page

Makai Lemon

NegativeRole52:37

The source believes Lemon will settle into the number two receiver role for the Eagles, citing his college production as a deep-ball threat. However, he has missed preseason time and is a rookie, so the source acknowledges the risk of him not hitting immediately.

Insight page

MarShawn Lloyd

PositiveValue60:41

The source notes that Marshawn Lloyd's ADP has risen significantly now that he is healthy and established as the clear backup, making him more expensive to draft.

Insight page

Nicholas Singleton

PositiveSleeper65:50

Singleton is a rookie running back for the Titans who could see increased opportunity if Tony Pollard or Tajay Spears struggle or get injured. Given that both veterans are free agents after the season, Singleton is a long-term stash with a path to a timeshare.

Insight page

Parker Washington

PositiveUsage10:12

Parker Washington performed well during joint practices with the Buccaneers while Brian Thomas was dealing with a shoulder issue.

Insight page

Ryan Flournoy

NegativeSleeper48:44

Flournoy is a deep sleeper who is not being drafted. While he is currently behind two main receivers, he is a candidate to benefit if an injury occurs in a high-powered passing offense. The source notes his talent and positive camp reports.

Insight page

Saquon Barkley

NegativeValue57:24

The source mentions Saquon Barkley as a player who warrants handcuffing with Tank Bigsby, noting that the backup situation has become clearer.

Insight page

Seth McGowan

PositiveSleeper53:12

The source highlights rookie Seth McGowan as a deep sleeper behind Jonathan Taylor, citing positive reports from joint practices and beat writers. While not a guaranteed starter, he is a name to file away as a potential handcuff.

Insight page

Terry McLaurin

NegativeProjection12:02

Due to concerns regarding the Commanders' offensive line and overall offensive struggles in joint practices, Christopher Harris suggests that if a drafter is choosing between McLaurin and a player from another team, it is reasonable to lean toward the other player.

Insight page

Tony Pollard

NegativeRole41:50

The source notes that Tony Pollard feels like the kind of player who might not stick around on the team, contrasting him with Tyjae Spears.

Insight page

Trey Benson

NegativeInjury14:17

Trey Benson cleared waivers and reverted to injured reserve, officially ruling him out for the 2026 season.

Insight page

Tucker Kraft

PositiveUsage13:38

Tucker Kraft participated fully in practice and scored a red-zone touchdown. While he has stated he does not expect to be a full-time player early in the season, Christopher Harris notes that if his snap count is higher than expected, he could be a significant draft-day value.

Insight page

Tyjae Spears

PositiveRole41:50

The source suggests that Tyjae Spears feels like the type of player who might stick around on the roster, contrasting him with Tony Pollard, who might not.

Insight page

Woody Marks

PositiveUsage15:21

Woody Marks had some good stretch runs during practice against the Panthers.

Insight page

Zachariah Branch

NegativeDepth Chart49:30

The source notes that the Falcons appear to be slow-playing rookie Zachariah Branch, making Jahan Dotson the current number two receiver by default.

0:00It's the Harris Fantasy Football Podcast with your host, Christopher Harris.
0:03Welcome! Hey everybody, welcome in. My name is Chris.
0:06This is a show that is canyon-like because, well, I'm not really anywhere near the Grand Canyon, but I am in the state of Arizona.
0:14Hello there, you tapeworms, you yacht possums. Thanks so much for listening today.
0:18I hope you're doing well wherever in the big wide world you are.
0:22It is my pleasure to get a talk with you today, this morning, on a Thursday.
0:27I am in Phoenix, Arizona. I guess technically Scottsdale, Arizona.
0:30We are truly creeping up on all our fantasy drafts.
0:33Labor Day comes late this year, so I'm going to say that this coming weekend is not the biggest for drafts.
0:40That's probably Labor Day weekend, but it's certainly the second biggest.
0:43I personally have the large draft coming up on Sunday.
0:46Very excited about that. Hopefully by now, if you're catching up with the podcast, you're starting to figure out who you want, who you don't want.
0:54You're building those draft boards. You're taking my opinions and the guests' opinions on the show.
0:59And then hopefully also your own opinion, because I certainly am not right about everything.
1:04And you're putting together how you hope your draft will go.
1:07And then, of course, week one will happen. Our mind palaces will shatter.
1:11And that'll be just fine, because then we'll figure out the right moves to make on waivers and in trades through the season.
1:19It is so fun to have you along for the ride in 2026.
1:23I did the final stop of the Pound Foolish World Tour last night, if by world tour you mean Pacific Time Zone of the United States.
1:31It was awesome. I had so much fun. I don't think we really got an official headcount, because people were coming in
1:37late, and it was like a big bar, and people who didn't know who the hell I was but heard me talking
1:44were filtering back into the bar sometimes and then walking away again.
1:48But Phoenix, you definitely represented. I met so many awesome possums.
1:51I think it must have been between like 30 and 40.
1:55Kelly Krieger is the one who put it together.
1:58I've known Kelly online for a very long time, back to the ESPN days, but it's the first time we actually ever met in person.
2:05Amazing. Great job, Kelly. Put the whole thing together at Duke Sports Bar.
2:09It was so fun. I also met my friend and my graphic designer, Dylan McGaughey, in person for the very first time.
2:16Crazy. We've been working together for 10 years. Dylan has designed almost everything related to all of my stuff.
2:22He made the Harris football logo, the Yacht Possum logo, a million other things.
2:27He did the cover of Pound Foolish, which is incredible, and I love it.
2:31My sister was there. I've met her before. Our cousins were there.
2:35I've met them before. And then many, many wonderful listeners who were just so amazing and so kind.
2:40We talked for hours. I got to read a couple of sections from the book, which everybody seemed to like.
2:46Signed some books for folks. Hung out and chatted.
2:49An incredible end to four events in four days.
2:52It seems like it's been two weeks, but it's been awesome.
2:55I am bushed. The travel parts, you know, that's the problem.
2:59It's just the travel takes so long and has so many components that are not the most fun, but you know, you
3:06grin and you bear it, and it was all made worthwhile by the meetups in all four cities.
3:11They were just so great. I am so lucky to have you all as an audience.
3:16What a great experience. This afternoon, it's back to L.A.
3:19for me. Let's face it. You know, I got to talk to Cousin Josh for Friday's show, and you got to be on your home turf.
3:27I got to be in L.A. to deal with Josh.
3:30He takes a lot of managing. If you are in the L.A.
3:34area, well, the book launch is officially Tuesday, September 1st.
3:37I am doing one last reading at 7 p.m.
3:40on Tuesday, September 1 in L.A. at Frogtown Brewery.
3:43I would love it if you'd come to that reading and then shake my hand so I can thank you.
3:49You know, come with friends. Come with spouses. Come alone.
3:52You will make friends. We'll meet. It'll be really fun.
3:55Plus, there is still time. If you pre-order Pound Foolish, you can still get bribed.
4:00There's bribery at the end of today's show. There's a full week of bribery next week.
4:05And the grand prize winner will get to be on this very podcast, which is...
4:10I've never done that before, so we'll see how it goes.
4:13But they can come aboard and maybe ask me some questions.
4:16Take a screenshot of your purchase of the pre-order.
4:19Send it to heyharris at harrisfootball.com. I guess pre-ordering isn't really going to be a thing as of Tuesday next week.
4:26You'll just be able to order it. So if you're going to do this, this is your reminder.
4:31You only have until to enter. No one who enters from Tuesday forward next week is going to win.
4:37So maybe do it now. Meanwhile, NFL news that we can use is, I think, beginning to be in short supply.
4:44Practices that the media can attend are ending with the joint practices that I'll talk about in a little bit here.
4:50So there's just going to be less firsthand observation from the beat reporters that we trust.
4:55And teams don't really have to maintain injury lists basically until after Labor Day.
5:00So you're going to get reporters who ask the right questions at press conferences.
5:04But then you're going to get answers like, you know, it's too early to tell if that guy is going to play in week one.
5:12We'll see, buddy. Like mostly they're not just going to tell the truth.
5:16Everything we think we know will definitely be called into question after week one.
5:20But also, without knowing it, we are definitely being set up for, I don't know, a dozen curveballs in the few days leading up to week one.
5:28Which is going to be annoying. We'll have made our drafts and decided and then we'll probably get some surprises in that injury list.
5:36And on the Friday before week one is always not that fun to have to adjust our lineups.
5:41But there's just nothing to be done about it.
5:44I think mostly our opinions should be pretty solid by now.
5:48But of course, we will allow for inputs if anything crops up.
5:51As I mentioned, the final crop of joint practices is this week.
5:55There were two days of joint practice between the Buccaneers and the Jags.
5:59Brian Thomas, apparently he's okay. But he hurt his shoulder in the first of the two joint sessions.
6:05Landed hard. Probably nothing. But was back out there doing drills the next day.
6:09So I'm going to assume he's going to be okay.
6:12But we'll see. We'll monitor it. In his absence, Parker Washington and Brenton Strange apparently were both awesome.
6:18So that's good because we like both those players.
6:21The Bucs offense apparently didn't look amazing. I don't think we're changing anything based on that.
6:26Are we changing anything based on Commanders Ravens? This was one where the beat reporters were pretty unanimous in saying that the Ravens just dominated.
6:33And the Commanders looked not real good. And in particular, the Ravens defense looks real and good.
6:39And I guess we're not shocked because, you know, the personnel was always pretty good.
6:43They had a lot of injuries last year. But everybody voiced concerns about Washington's offensive line since Laramie Tunsil.
6:49And yeah. I mean, in this practice apparently it was not only Tunsil out.
6:53So the starting center has missed most of camp with a calf injury.
6:58And I don't think it's clear he's back. The right guard was out because of illness.
7:02He should be back. Plus Washington didn't use either of their two starting running backs, Rashad White or JCM.
7:08But yeah, you've probably seen the quote from a Commanders beat reporter that it was the worst Commanders offense in years and an inoperable quote-unquote offensive line.
7:17I don't think I'll draw a straight line and tell you, you know, Jaden Daniels is now undraftable.
7:22You have to drop Terry McLaurin 20 spots down your board.
7:26But I don't think it's totally, if you have a tiebreaker, I don't think it's totally wrong to just say, I'm close
7:33between a Commander and another team guy and I'm now going to go with the other team guy.
7:38I don't think that's wrong. Like this was a pretty unanimous sentiment.
7:42I will say I don't feel terrible that I don't draft Jaden Daniels, that I have him below market.
7:48I have him QB7. Of course, this could turn out to be a blip and nothing.
7:53But I'm not sad about that rank. I'm not lowering him further, but I'm already not getting him.
7:58This is certainly going to be something that we're going to watch with the Commanders to start the season.
8:04In Packers Cardinals, you had Josh Jacobs back from his calf injury and looking very good.
8:09We know the skill set is fantastic. I'd love to have him on a fantasy team if he doesn't wind up getting
8:16suspended, but we just don't know that. Tucker Kraft participated fully, scored a red zone touchdown on which he bowled through would-be tacklers.
8:23You know, if we get a pleasant surprise on Tucker Kraft's snap count early in the season, the hedge fund will have been a great draft day value.
8:32But of course, it would be a surprise because Kraft himself has told reporters that he doesn't expect to be a full-time player early in the year.
8:40For the Cardinals, they apparently don't have very many running backs after having so many.
8:45James Conner still not really doing anything. It just sounds like he won't be there to begin the year, but I don't think that's a sure thing.
8:53I think the coach said something about him running out of time.
8:57And meanwhile, Trey Benson, who we talked about having been released, he cleared waivers and reverted to injured reserve.
9:03So Trey Benson officially out for the season. And Texans-Panthers, the unanimous beat reporter conclusion on that one seemed to be the
9:10Panthers offense was not ready for prime time against that defense.
9:13Though I suppose few are against the Texans. Carolina's offense got overwhelmed by Houston's pass rush.
9:18And I guess the Panthers' D was okay. Houston had some good stretch runs with both David Montgomery and Woody Marks.
9:25But Houston did lose one of their candidates to play right tackle, Braden Smith, to a foot injury that could linger into the season.
9:32As I say, we probably should be past the point of wild swings in ranks based on anything we hear about practices shy of serious injury.
9:40But I do think that minor tweaks to the ranks, I'll probably still be making them throughout the next couple of weeks.
9:47The Almanac update doesn't come out until a week from tomorrow, a week from Friday.
9:52Because it always comes out the Friday before Labor Day weekend.
9:55Because that's the biggest draft weekend of the year.
9:58And I just want you to be drafting with the absolute latest version of it.
10:03So you're not getting an Almanac update until, I guess, eight days from today.
10:07But you can certainly rely on the fact that the ranks are always updated at harrisfootball.com.
10:12Today's kickoff. Okay, on today's show, it's another rite of passage here at the end of August.
10:17It's time for the Super Deep Sleepers list. That's been around for a very long time.
10:22It predates this show by a lot. Something I used to do at ESPN.
10:26And, of course, we've brought it to the possums.
10:29We've done it every year on the show. This list is mostly players you should not draft.
10:35We're talking about guys who usually don't get taken in standard-sized leagues.
10:38But we're interested. We're intrigued. We're making a note of them, depending on what we see from them and their teammates early in the NFL season.
10:46This is the beginning of my half of the Super Deep list.
10:50And my guest will be Jake Seeley of The Athletic.
10:53And Jake will have his super deep names as well.
10:56And I think you'll have fun with this conversation.
10:59I thank you again so much for listening today.
11:02We are sponsored again by DraftKings. I am helping spread the word.

12:07Contest availability varies by state. Today's guest. She spotted the ocean.
12:10Then changed our plans. Why are we going? After exposed.
12:13She's in the ocean. It is Jake Seeley. It is so wonderful to have him on.
12:18You can find his work at The Athletic. You can listen to the all-in speedrun.
12:23You can listen to him appear on 700 other shows, including mine.
12:27Because he's much in demand this time of year.
12:29And follow him all over social media at all-in-kid.
12:32Before we get started, you wanted to update me on Jeans in the Ocean.
12:37Yeah. I put out a post. And it has to do with a family member.
12:41And I won't call him out for this. But I was like, these kids these days.
12:46Like, I admit, we wore stupid things in the 90s.
12:49I wore JNCOs and jorts. And I was like, but watching these kids wear hoodies in 90 degrees just because it's a fashion trend.
12:57And then somebody responded back with, you wear jeans in the ocean, so you have nothing to say.
13:02So now somebody wrote in knowing that you were going to be on today.
13:07And they said, I was supposed to ask you about cleaning your backside.
13:11Was that right? Seriously? How is this still going?
13:13I don't even know. How did it get out there to other people?
13:17This whole thing had to do with, there was a conversation we had in New York for Flex.
13:23And somebody said that they brought their own towels for the bathroom.
13:27And I said, I can get that. And then we got into the conversation of taking a shower and like cleaning or whatever.
13:34And he was like, and then you wipe behind.
13:37I was like, no. I was like, I wipe off with a paper towel, if you understand what section of my body I'm talking about.
13:44I was like, I don't want the towel with that area on it.
13:49Like, I don't care how clean. Yeah. No, no, no.
13:52Like, I don't want to wipe my hindquarters because I don't care how clean it was in the shit.
13:58Yeah. Onto the towel. And they're like, well, then you use the other side.
14:02I'm like, no, because the other side still has stuff.
14:05So we got in this whole conversation that I use a paper towel and I dry out my ears.
14:11And then I dry that area and throw the paper towel away.
14:15And I'm apparently the craziest person in the world.
14:17I will say, though, I brought it up on my podcast and the only comments I got were, no, they're the crazy people.
14:25So that made me feel better. I don't think anybody's crazy in this situation.
14:29I think quite literally different strokes, if you get what I'm saying.
14:33See, this is why you're the writer. Yeah. That is very funny.
14:36I did not know why I was being asked that.
14:39That story clearly has broken contain. It clearly has.
14:42Yeah. It was clearly. I did not know what I was walking into there.
14:47I apologize for putting you on the spot, but it was funny.
14:50No, no, no. You're okay. I'm still getting pictures sent by the group that was involved in that of like the brawny
14:57man, but like AI turned into me instead. And so like, yeah, it's been a lot of fun.
15:03I love it. So this is Super Deep Sleepers.
15:06And you clearly know what to do because you've done this for a few years on the show.
15:11And we were talking beforehand about how like, oh, too bad our hit rates on Super Deep Sleepers weren't higher last year.
15:18And I'm like, I mean, both of us said that.
15:21Then I'm like, you're not supposed to hit these guys.
15:24That's the whole point is if you hit one of these guys, it's amazing.
15:28These are not draftable players. The Super Deeps have been going on since I was early at ESPN.
15:34I've been doing this list for like 20 years.
15:37The hit rate is like 5% and it's supposed to be.
15:40It's funny with Andy on the Yacht Club on Wednesday.
15:43He talked about we were doing dynasty ups and downs on that show.
15:47And he talked about Terrence Ferguson as an up.
15:50Great, great call by him. I thought it was a really interesting conversation.
15:54And I expressed regret because Terrence Ferguson was definitely a candidate for Super Deep when the season, when the, you know, when
16:01the minicamp type stuff started because he certainly was not getting drafted.
16:05But now he's kind of getting drafted. He can't be on the Super Deep list.
16:09It's too high. I mean, and that's really how these things are supposed to work.
16:14It's, you know, I went through it and I'm like, wait, this guy was drafted in one of my leagues.
16:20Does he really count? Don't. And I mean, that's the entire thought process is like you said, you don't want to draft these guys.
16:28And I don't know. There's one that I still kind of want to put in there that I don't know.
16:34We'll see when we talk about it. You can call me out on it.
16:38It's like he doesn't qualify. Okay. Well, yeah. I mean, in the end, we're only just talking about players as an excuse to talk about players.
16:46But what's the use? I'm going to like reset just for the listener.
16:50Like what's the use of doing this if we're telling people not to draft them?
16:55These are players you should not draft. The idea is, first of all, you might be in a very deep bench league,
17:02in which case maybe they can be the last guys that you take and just stash away.
17:07Maybe a thought in Dynasty of if they're free, if they're cheap, grab them, get a trade, you know, for nothing kind of thing.
17:15And or just be ready to pounce because we're interested in them either as players or situations.
17:20So, you know, as pickups, maybe in October or something, we'll be talking about them.
17:25My list is 10. So I'm doing five today and then five tomorrow.
17:29I have the luxury of therefore picking twice as many names as you do.
17:33And therefore, like Jalen Coker made my list last year.
17:36Turned out to be pretty good. Keaton Mitchell made my...
17:39Turned out all right. Sean Tucker was on my list last year.
17:43You know, like became relevant. Not super satisfying to own.
17:46And yeah, last year, your guys were Cam Ward, DJ Giddens, Ollie Gordon, Elik Iumannar, and Roman Wilson.
17:52And all of them at the time we understood, none of them really popped.
17:56But again, I think if your hit rate is like you're getting two out of five, you're not doing it right.
18:02So unless you have other thoughts, we'll just count them down.
18:06It's a pointless countdown. The order does not matter for you.
18:09For me, it's alphabetical. So it really doesn't matter.
18:12But of course, it matters very much. So who's your number five super deep sleeper for 2026?
18:17Or you could call it my number ones because this is going to be a question of whether or not...
18:24Right off the gate. I just... Right off the bat.
18:27I want to ask you this. So like, can we bring up Kalen Black or not?
18:32Because this one felt weird. This feels like he might should be drafted if he's actually the guy.
18:37But as of today, we're still not certain he is the guy.
18:41So I have five others if you want to jump past him.
18:45Let me put it that way, Chris. I mean, he's inside the top 200.
18:49So let's jump to another one. I mean, I think it's okay.
18:53Let's just talk about it. Let's just talk about...
18:56In the end, this is all just an excuse to talk about players.
19:00And we haven't done a ton of 49er backup running back talk on the show.
19:04So let's just do it. Let's talk Kalen Black.
19:07Let's talk Jordan James. Let's talk the ghost of Isaac Garendo.
19:10I think that's the best way to put it right now is just it sounds like it is the ghost of Isaac
19:17Garendo is that we've had opportunities and it looked fun for short, brief spurts.
19:22But there's been other options. And they were talking up Jordan James this entire time, the excitement behind him.
19:28And it came down to the fact that we're still waiting for him to return.
19:32And it's really the testament of who's next up.
19:35And we've played this game before where it's who's next up.
19:38And then that person gets like one game and it doesn't end up being the right guy.
19:44And that's always the danger. And that's why that's why I went back and forth on this, Chris.
19:49I think this is actually a good conversation to have is like if somebody wants to take Kalen Black in the 10th,
19:5611th round, I'll let them do it because I'm not going to do it because I don't think it's clear as of today.
20:03And I don't think we know definitively that he's the best option up if something happens to Christian McCaffrey, which I know everybody's terrified of.
20:11It's the appeal that we know what Shanahan does.
20:14He makes good running backs. Great. You don't even have to be elite talent to be good in his system.
20:20So we want that next man. But understanding that it's still not it might not be black.
20:25We might get positive news this entire week. And then Jordan James is back.
20:30And 100 percent is like, yeah, well, that was fun.
20:33But it was always planned to be Jordan James.
20:35So I'm not really drafting either one of them.
20:38I wanted to put his name out there just for the fact that I am keeping an eye on it.
20:44And if we get to three days before the season starts and they come out and they're like, hey, this is definitively
20:51the depth chart that we're going by. Sure. I'll take a chance on stashing my late or my last bench spot on
20:58somebody maybe who got hurt or somebody who didn't pan out that I drafted three weeks ago and I'll drop them.
21:05But that's why I'm saying like still as of today, I don't know about you, Chris, is like I haven't taken any
21:11shares of black or James because I don't think we know the answer despite the appeal.
21:16Yeah, I've taken him a bunch. He's in my black is inside my top 150.
21:21It didn't start out that way. So I have actually taken him a bunch in in standard leagues, but it is or,
21:28you know, in standard size league, as I should say, like, you know, where maybe top whatever 170 or something is getting drafted.
21:35So can I ask you the follow up question then?
21:38Sure. So is it because you're not enamored with James or you just don't think that he's going to gather enough time to get back into it?
21:47I don't know anything about either one. You know, Matt Wellman comps them to each other.
21:52So I'm like, OK, cool. That doesn't help me at all.
21:55You know, the answer is Jordan James broke a rib and didn't do anything for a month.
22:00And that's a hard thing to come back from.
22:03But 100 percent, you're right that Shanahan has done the rug pull a million times where you go, oh, I'm positive it's Jordan Mason.
22:10I know who it is. I know who the next guy is.
22:14Definitely Trey Sermon. And then, you know, McCaffrey gets hurt or someone gets hurt and suddenly it's not the one you thought.
22:21But if that's the case, I feel like I don't mind taking I'm not going to take them both, but I don't mind taking one.
22:29And if it's the case, if I get it wrong, well, it was my last round pick.
22:34So, yeah, I'll survive. It's OK. My number five and again, minor and alphabetical order.
22:39So, you know, it's not really five through four.
22:42And if I say a name that you wanted to talk about, interrupt me because I'd rather hear you talk than me
22:48talk, but I put Cyrus Allen on the list.
22:51Any consideration? There were some. I feel the danger of just Jalen Royals slash Sky Morris slash everything we've done with the number two.
22:59But I thought about him. He's at least on my let's pay attention list.
23:03Long list. Yeah. On your longest. I know nothing about Cyrus Allen.
23:07We're talking about rookies here. I don't know anything other than like I didn't know his name and he didn't get drafted
23:13in the La Liga Lebowski five rounds of a rookie draft in May.
23:18And suddenly he's now on the his name is on everybody's lips in Kansas City.
23:22He's a Chiefs rookie receiver. He's been impressive. He's gotten lots of flattering words from Patrick Mahomes.
23:27And we're not drafting him. Like, you know, you mentioned other guys.
23:31They have a lot of young prospects or whatever.
23:34Sure. We're not drafting any of them. Cyrus Allen shouldn't be drafted.
23:38He's not getting drafted. But you're always kind of questioning whether if Mahomes can recapture the magic, yada, yada, yada.
23:44We've had said it a million times. I'm if I'm anything, I'm fading the Chiefs offense compared to being into it.
23:50But that's why predicting sports is hard. We don't always know what's going to happen.
23:55So I'll say if Cyrus Allen is on the field a bunch in September, I might be interested in him as a waiver guy.
24:03Yeah, I think that's the real thing here is those other names of the excitement.
24:07And that's what my caution was, is that we've done this game of like, oh, we've got to find the person that's
24:14the number two in the Chiefs offense and all these young players.
24:18I mean, we can go back to Mikkel Harmon.
24:21That was fun for about half a season. But the appeal, I think that is if he fills the role that they've
24:27been lacking and the fact that like, hey, let's send somebody more than 10, 15 yards downfield and a compliment to what
24:34Rasheed Rice can do as the volume guy. Yeah.
24:37If we knew he was the number two, obviously he'll be one of the hottest pickups in week one or two if this actually pans out.

25:45Okay, we're back with Jake. We are doing the super deep sleepers for 2026.
25:50Jake, who's your number four? Yeah, I'm going to go with a rookie wide receiver as well.
25:55And it's the one that doesn't probably have a starting role or even seen a lot of action to start the season.
26:02But it's Chris Bell for the Dolphins. And I know there's a lot of talk about Caleb Douglas, and they took Caleb
26:09Douglas before him, which I think raised a lot of eyebrows.
26:12Again, as you always say, we only know, well, we don't really know because they're rookies, but we are projecting what we
26:19think they could be out of college. But everybody in the entire industry had Chris Bell ahead of Douglas and thought that
26:26if not for the injury, he could have been a first rounder.
26:29Of course, the teams are going to do what they think is best.
26:33And there's this excitement for Douglas. But why I bring it up for Bell is because, you know, what if he was 100%?
26:41And what if everybody's right? What if everybody's right and the talent is better than Douglas?
26:46He's not going to be 100% for week one.
26:48He might not see a lot of action for a couple of weeks.
26:52But this is a wide open door where every single day, it seems like we get different news in the Dolphins.
26:59Oh, it's going to be Tolbert and it's going to be Malik Washington.
27:03And then two days later, it's like, oh, Tolbert and Malik Washington might not make the roster.
27:08Like, make a choice. Dolphins beat writers. But the point being is that nobody really knows.
27:13There's so much uncertainty that we are looking for who's the number one and the number two in this offense.
27:19Because despite what people might think, it's funny that we go from the end of last year where it's like, oh, somebody's
27:26really going to benefit from getting Malik Willis this year.
27:29And it goes to the Dolphins. Everybody's like, yeah, Malik Willis stinks.
27:33He can't throw the ball. Forget the fact that he can throw downfield and has a pretty good arm.
27:39So all that being said is this might not hit.
27:42It might be the situation where, you know, you hate crutch arguments.
27:46Chris, I know you're going to love this is the argument that people make where he has to throw to somebody.
27:52And what if the answer is, yeah, except they're going to be losing three touchdowns every game too.
27:58Yeah, exactly. And so, but what if the somebody is some buddies and it's six people every single week and we never
28:05have a clear one, let alone clear one and two, that all being said, if it shakes out and they do have
28:11Douglas and Bell as their top two, nobody's drafting Bell and nobody cares about Bell, but talent, if it wins out what
28:18people expect, he could be their number one. And that's why at least he's on my short list of, hey, I'm going to remember his name.
28:26I'm going to put him away on the back end of the bench.
28:30If you have an IR spot to start the season and he starts on being out, that's even all the better, but
28:37I'm not drafting him unless that's the only case.
28:40Sure. Yeah. Good name for this. We should just mention what the injury was because he tore his ACL.
28:46He was projected as a first round receiver in the NFL draft and then December a tour in ACL and basically didn't participate in training camp.
28:54But I think recently within the last week did get activated to be able to participate in drills.
29:00I think camp is over, but you know, being able to practice with the team.
29:04So probably not likely to play even in September, but sure.
29:08I thought about him. I think it's a good nominee here.
29:11I don't think I have other rookies I'm going to talk about today.
29:15I think I have maybe one rookie that I'm going to talk about tomorrow.
29:19But I have a guy who plays for a good team who doesn't get drafted.
29:24I have Ryan Flournoy as a super deep sleeper.
29:27I get why he's not drafted. I did write him a profile in the Almanac.
29:32The funny thing about that is, so he was number 80.
29:35I write 80 profiles for the receivers in the Almanac and he was number 80 on the list.
29:41So over the course of the summer, the list is evolving a little bit and then you're starting to get news and
29:47then someone's hurt and you start, you know, shuffling them a little bit and people were getting at the very end Stefan
29:54Diggs signs and I can't remember if someone else maybe also signed and that I suddenly needed to get them into the ranks.
30:01And I thought to myself, yeah, but I like that Ryan Flournoy profile.
30:05So it's funny. I think I'm just going to keep him at 80 and 79 down to 81.
30:11I don't think it was Keenan Allen because that happened later in August because, you know, the Almanac came out at the beginning of August.
30:19But so I kept the Flournoy. Anyway, usually guys who get Almanac profiles don't qualify for super deep.
30:24But to be honest, he probably shouldn't have had a profile.
30:28Nobody's drafted. I liked it and he is not getting drafted.
30:31So lots of very nice things have been said about him in this training camp.
30:36Obviously, the two main guys are the two main guys.
30:39And I don't imagine anybody else gets enough work to be useful right away.
30:43But I can get an injury to one of those two main guys.
30:47And I thought actually at moments when Lamb was hurt early in the year and then when Pickens was losing his mind
30:54later in the year, there were times where you could.
30:57I strongly remember a Monday Night Game where Troy and Joe were raving about it.
31:02They called him Flannoy. Ryan Flannoy. I don't know why they call him that because I don't think that's how he pronounces it.
31:09And so, yeah, I am maybe in honor of Ross Flournoy, the genius behind Apex Manor, who does our theme song.
31:16I am picking Ryan Flournoy for this list. I like that one because, like you said, the biggest thing is whether or
31:22not you believe in the talent, which you like to profile.
31:26But even if you were like, eh, you know what?
31:29He's fine. He's fine behind two guys who have gotten hurt or one that also has gotten hurt and has the head
31:36case issues that we might have concerns over. So it just takes, like you said, that's the biggest thing.
31:42And there's a lot of overlap for some of my players in that aspect is that it just takes the one injury
31:48as the one injury on what we expect to be one of the top five passing offenses.
31:54It's very simple. Yeah. Number three on your list.
31:57Number three is somebody that it's so much so that I'm not drafting because I like the other player who is a rookie.
32:04But let's be honest, I might not be right about McKay Lemon.
32:07I think I am. I believe he's going to settle right into being the number two.
32:12And I believe that his talent is going to come over from the college game and into the NFL that everybody wants
32:19to call him only this middle of the field worker because they want to hate on Jalen Hurts and forget the fact
32:26that he was one of the biggest deep ball catchers in the entire power five.
32:31All that being said, we're projecting a lot for a rookie who has missed time this preseason just finally got back, might
32:38not start the season as the number two. And then if he isn't into the game plan and he's showing rookie struggles,
32:44he wouldn't be the first rookie in the first round not to hit immediately.
32:49Heck, we still finally got half of the season Quentin Johnston, completely different profiles.
32:53But the point being is not every rookie drafted in the first round is going to hit immediately.
32:59And they signed Antavian Wicks, been there the entire offseason.
33:02We saw flashes in with the Packers. I don't think he's the best wide receiver in the game.
33:07I don't even think he was a top two or three wide receiver with the Packers.
33:12All that being said, he's still talented. And if somebody is going to benefit and what is this open void of Devontae
33:19Smith blank next to him and it's not Lemon, Wicks is going to be a good bet to step up.
33:25And let's pretend the fact that Devontae Smith's the picture of health.
33:29So even if Lemon is the guy, all it takes is, like you said, an injury to Devontae Smith.
33:35And all of a sudden, it's Wicks and Lemon.
33:38So I think Wicks is kind of getting overlooked as, hey, he is the clear number three at worst in the wide receiver room.
33:45So he might even be the two to start the season.
33:49It almost sounds like I'm saying to draft him, but I'm not because I'm still taking Mikhail Lemmon because I believe, but
33:55I'm not going to pretend that I'm 100% perfect in these things.
33:59Yeah. For where he's going, he's perfect for this list.
34:02He's way outside the top 200. So he's not getting drafted anywhere near standard sized leagues.
34:07And even I, who have a higher grade on him, have him like 180 or something.
34:12So still not draftable in a standard sized league.
34:15He did get an Almanac profile though. So, so tsk, tsk.
34:18No, it's fine. If only he didn't have duck hands.
34:22You know, the reason he's not in Green Bay is because he just, oh, the hands are so bad and it's rough
34:28to imagine that they're suddenly going to get good.
34:31Well, there's your one Quentin-Johnston overlap. It's just not for Lemon.
34:35It's for Wicks. Yeah, exactly. And truthfully, you know, they, well, I guess Johnson's fast and Wicks isn't fast, but Wicks is
34:41like a good, a good, he has those motion skills.
34:44You would say like when he has, even though he's not fast, when he has the ball, he makes guys miss.
34:51He knows where to go. He has, it feels like he can see the field and, you know, runs a pretty good route.
34:58And like, I would like him as a receiver if he could catch, but that does seem like it's a big part of the job.
35:06But absolutely. I was, I couldn't remember whether I wrote him an Almanac profile.
35:10And I was like, when you said the name, when you, when you led up to it, when you said it's someone
35:17not Makai Lemon, I was, I knew it wasn't going to be Hollywood Brown.
35:21So I was like, oh, I wish I'd thought of it.
35:25I wish I'd put Wicks on the list. I actually think he's an excellent candidate because you, you wouldn't draft him in
35:32a standard sized league, but the path is pretty clear.
35:35Plus he's a pro. Like he's been in the league, he might drop the ball, but like he knows where to go.
35:42So I, I love that actually as someone that like, we should be ready to be, to pivot.
35:47Like we don't really actually know how a lot of this is going to go.
35:52Our mind palaces are built and then week one comes and suddenly D'Atevill Wicks gets eight targets and we go, I think
35:59I'm going to add him just in case, you know, it's a really great one to have brought up.
36:05I like that a lot. Something of a, of a binky of mine is George Holani.
36:10I think it's possible. I didn't actually check. Let me see if he's made the list before.
36:15No, he's never been a super deep sleeper. Um, the Seattle running back.
36:19I don't think he's the answer. I think among, among all of it, there, there's a lot of high profile bodies that
36:26Seahawks would prefer and are banking on or hoping at some point Zach Charbonnet comes back and the first round rookie, Jadarian Price.
36:33And then they signed Emmanuel Wilson as a free agent.
36:36Maybe who Halani doesn't even make the team. There's a little something about George, George Halani that I just, the few moments that he's played.
36:44I, I don't know. I feel like I'm crazy.
36:46I've, but probably you should draft Emmanuel Wilson. Probably like if you're going to, if you're going to play the contrarian to
36:53Jadarian Price, I have Wilson ahead of Halani. I have him so far ahead that I probably could have put him on
37:00the list, but I'm going to go super deep.
37:03And the, the deeper name then, then Emmanuel Wilson is George Halani.
37:07Not a, not a big guy, not a super, super fast guy, but another one with like good motion skills.
37:13And like, I have a La Liga Lebowski, the kind of the dynasty league that everybody knows about on the show.
37:19And I've had him stashed for this last like year and a half or whatever.
37:24And if there's carnage, I'll be happy. I have him.
37:27And that's the biggest thing is like you said, it's likely Emmanuel Wilson.
37:31And I think that's the one part where I would disagree with is that this is another one.
37:37I feel like according to reports, we don't know because we've talked about this on your show before.
37:42And the fact that when I see a beat reporter, I don't want one person being like, oh God, this guy looks so amazing.
37:50We need to see two, three, four, five people saying it because, you know, we all have our own opinions, but that's
37:57where I'm going with my point here is the fact that it seems half the beat reporters are saying George Halani and
38:03half the beat reporters are saying that it's going to be Emmanuel Wilson.
38:08So the fact that that's still open, I think is definitely up for conversation.
38:12Yeah, it's possible. You know, I have Emmanuel Wilson like high above Halani and it's possible, like you said, I might just have the order wrong.
38:20Like I actually, I consider Wilson quote unquote draftable in the same way that I consider Kaelin Black draftable, which is like
38:27maybe, you know, you could with a 14th round pick, but I also think there are going to be tons of drafts where Wilson doesn't go either.
38:35So anyway, you know, I, I don't, I think the Seattle backfield has the potential to be that real mind palace shatter.
38:42I don't think they really know what their plans are.
38:45So the idea that we're somehow going to read the tea leaves and understand exactly how to draft each guy, part of
38:52why I don't think I have a single team where I've gotten Jadarian price and I'm not, well, I guess that's not true.
38:59A rookie draft. I got Jadarian price, but you don't have a lot of choices and you know, you got to take
39:06the, the high upside guys for their careers, but for dynasty, but for a redraft, I haven't gotten price at all, which
39:13is really nothing against him as a prospect. He sounds interesting, but it's just, it feels like you've got the injured veteran.
39:20You've got the, the guy who, you know, wasn't a starter in college with a very few number of college touches.
39:26You've got these two young veterans who have, you know, no huge ceiling, but like seem like they're going to be good pros.
39:33It feels like we're going to get a lot of twists and turns in that backfield.
39:38And that's the thing is, and if something shakes out though, and we start getting a clear picture, that's why you grab somebody like him.
39:46Yeah. All right. How about your number two? I'm going running back as well.
39:50This is the only other rookie I have. And it's not even one that I'm a huge fan of.
39:56I just like the opportunities in Nicholas Singleton and the Titans, mostly because the style fits, I believe in the offense, but
40:03that's not even really what it comes down to.
40:06It comes down to the fact that we've done Tony Pollard for years, more volume reliant, kind of above average running back.
40:13He's, I just don't think, at least in my opinion, he's an elite running back or even great.
40:18I just think he's above average. Tajay Spears has been trying to be a thing for a couple of years.
40:24One can't stay healthy, two shows flashes, and then just looks mediocre as well, in my opinion.
40:30But the biggest thing here is that they're both free agents after this year.
40:34So we're talking about Dable coming in, the new coaching staff, a young team where, hey, if Tony Pollard and Tajay Spears
40:41look like they have of recent years, maybe we start to see, hey, let's find out if Singleton could be at least
40:48part of the timeshare next year, if not potentially the lead.
40:51And because he's the clear third, he's the rookie that was drafted to this organization.
40:56Maybe the injury opens things up where it's a split backfield, which we know that Dable continues.
41:01We've just saw him do it with the Giants.
41:04It's like, wow, we're going to still keep using Devin Singletary?
41:07Like, well, OK, whatever, buddy. But he's going to share that backfield with at least two people, if not potentially three.
41:14So if it shakes down to two by an injury, two Pollard or Spears, and he starts getting touches, you're not drafting
41:21Singleton because you're not drafting a third running back on a team.
41:24But there's a path to becoming the two and potentially even the one by the end of the year.
41:30Yeah, he's made my list. I got one. Yeah, we have overlap.
41:34But he's an S. So I'll save the rest of my thoughts on Singleton for tomorrow's show.
41:39So but yeah, a lot of the same same ideas.
41:42It you know, you always want to be somewhat careful about, you know, this guy's contract is up and this is a new coaching staff.
41:50There's you don't want to dot connect. But the thing is, the dot connecting price here is there's no price.
41:56We're not connecting dots that are going to cost us anything.
42:00So it's fine. It's fine to just have in the back of your mind, you know, things start to go bad and
42:07maybe that team isn't that good and it feels like Spears feels like the kind of dude who might stick around.
42:13But Pollard feels like the kind of dude who might not.
42:16And Singleton feels like he's more the direct replacement for him.
42:20But you're absolutely right in that the cost is nothing because he's not getting drafted, nor should he.
42:25He's like he's almost inside my top 200, but that's not draftable position.
42:30And in any draft you're in, he I don't know if it's a like a 12 team 16 round draft.
42:36I've never seen him go. I don't think. Right.

43:43Okay, we're back with Jake and we have a few more names to go on the super deep list for today.
43:50I just realized who I'm about to talk about.
43:53Oh my God. No, I'm just asking for trouble.
43:55I'm asking. This is a recurrence of... There was on my show a famous segment with Jamie Eisenberg for post-hype sleepers about five years ago.
44:03And I put Michael Thomas on the list. He never came back.
44:07I was wrong. It was incorrect. But, you know, I felt like he was...
44:11People were sleeping on the idea that he could return and be good.
44:15And he never was. It was a wrong call.
44:18And Jamie was very nice about it, but it didn't really fit the exercise.
44:23You know, it was kind of like, that's a different list, buddy.
44:26This might be a different list too. I'm such an idiot.
44:30I put Daniel Jones... I'm so curious of that.
44:32I put Daniel Jones on the list as a super deep flavor.
44:36I almost put him. Did you really? Okay, good.
44:39Yes. I think it's worth having the conversation of saying, I don't know how it's going to go, but the reviews have been really good so far.
44:47And I think any doubt that we have that he's going to be out there week one feels like I'm 99% sure he will be.
44:55And yet, he's absolutely going outside the top 200.
44:58If you look in live drafts, he's simply not getting drafted.
45:01And in a single quarterback league, I understand it.
45:04And normally I wouldn't go, what an outrage. My QB 22 is going QB 29.
45:09You know, who cares? We're not drafting the QB 22.
45:12It's just we have to acknowledge that when he got hurt last year, he was absolutely an every week fantasy starter.
45:18He was absolutely... It was against our better judgment.
45:21We all kept waiting for it to end. And it only ended because he got hurt.
45:26That offense was an absolute wagon until he got hurt.
45:29So, he's getting drafted one spot ahead of Shadur Sanders.
45:32And like, I don't want people to draft him because I don't know if it's going to...
45:38It could just be one of those one-year things.
45:40But let me phrase it as a question. If the Colts look great in week one and it feels like they never
45:47missed a beat, aren't you going to be recommending Daniel Jones at least as a streamer and maybe as a sure-what-the-heck in a single quarterback league?
45:55Go ahead and add him. Absolutely. And that's why I considered him.
45:59Because the bigger part here is, too, is as the team stands, you're like, man, if he is 100% or even close
46:06to it, he might be a streamer to start.
46:09And then if we ever get, I don't know, the doctors even know, positive news and Alec Pierce is coming back, I
46:15mean, we'll flip the script into the point where it might go from interesting streamer, put him on your bench, to two
46:22weeks later, he's a top-10 quarterback in everybody's ranks.
46:25And that's why I almost put him here. And my thought process of why I didn't is because I thought I might
46:32get the cone of shame, like I would the Donovan Wicks one, like if I brought him up.
46:38Yeah, you might have. If the roles were reversed, I'm an absolute hypocrite.
46:42I might have been like, come on, Jake. He's in the almanac.
46:45I mean, definitely he's in the almanac. Although he was QB 26 in the almanac and he's higher now because he should be higher now.
46:53And yet, I guess that's what it is. I think he probably isn't a super deep sleeper.
46:58It probably is lame for this list. But we also haven't talked about him.
47:03I haven't had a guest give me their full take on him.
47:06So he was QB 7 as of week 13 last year.
47:10And of course, was some of that about rushing a little bit?
47:14Five rushing touchdowns? Okay. And maybe you're worried those don't recur or whatever.
47:18But I don't know. He was having a really good season.
47:21I think in 12 games, you know, he finishes a top 12 quarterback seven times.
47:26That's not all running. They were actually a good offense.
47:29He had a touchdown throwing in every single game that he started outside the injury when he got hurt in week 14.
47:36He had two plus in six games. And that's not something that we think of when it comes to Daniel Jones.
47:42And maybe that's everybody's hesitancy. Maybe they're like, wow, I can't.
47:46There's no way I believe that Daniel Jones is going to be throwing his 30 touchdowns.
47:50That's not who Daniel Jones is. I want the rushing side of him.
47:55And everybody's worried that that's not going to continue.
47:57But I will say I'll push back a little bit on this, not to you, on the rushing.
48:03I know he's not running for 40, 50, 60, 70 yards regularly like he was.
48:08But he's still the guy who will balance Jonathan Taylor.
48:11And similar to like Jalen Hurts, he doesn't get the tush pushes, but he does get some of those goal line carries
48:17and sneaks and off plays that we're going to still see him if he starts 17 games.
48:23I would be shocked if he doesn't have six or seven rushing touchdowns.
48:27I guess that's true unless the Achilles is such that they're like, don't do it.
48:31You know, like we have to find another solution just because your leg isn't the same as it used to be.
48:38We need to, you know, that is possible that it won't happen for that reason.
48:43But skill set wise of what we think of Daniel Jones, you know, he's the galloping moron who I think when Daniel
48:49Jones was on the Giants, you were still a Giants fan.
48:53No, I was here for everybody out there. We'll back this perfectly.
48:57I was a Giants fan for one more year because when they drafted him, I said, this might be the final straw,
49:03but I will give them one year to prove me wrong.
49:07And that's, and after one year, I was like, no, I'm done.
49:11I'm out. Yeah, it's funny. Yeah, I think I understand that.
49:14And, you know, he was the, he was the guy who had good speed and like people go, oh, he's going to run for 800 yards.
49:22And then you'd watch him run and he was fast, but he, he had a tendency to fall down like untouched for some reason.
49:30All right. We're at your number one, super deep.
49:32And we're at my letter M super deep. So who's, who's number one on your list?
49:37Oh man. It's funny that you started laughing at yourself when you bring up your last name.
49:43And as soon as I put this name, I like chuckled with myself because I was such a fan of his and
49:49I was hoping and hoping and on different teams now to give everybody a hint there.
49:54I really wanted Jahan Dotson to be a thing.
49:57And I really liked the skillset. I thought that he could be a perfect number two for most teams in the NFL.
50:04And that's where I'm going with this. I'm not excited about the Falcons offense.
50:08I don't think anybody is. I'm excited if Penix is back under center versus Tua for, for Drake London.
50:14And the real question here is that they have a rookie with Zachariah Branch.
50:19We got a little bit of buzz a few weeks ago, but then you see the usage in the preseason and the recent talk.
50:26And it's like, yeah, he's a long-term thought. But as of today, the person who's the number two, because Branch overlaps a
50:33little bit more of Zacchaeus and the two that's out there right now continues to be the two is John Dotson.
50:39And this is definitely like, I do not draft John Dotson.
50:43I don't care how much you were with me when he was a rookie and thought that he could be the number
50:50two in the NFL and continue the Penn State, you know, terrificness of wide receivers.
50:54So don't. And if it's Tua, I might even say just don't ever.
50:58But if look, he has the number two job locked in and this offense is somewhat like capable of throwing 250 yards
51:05a game and a touchdown or two, and he ends up being the number two, you can do worse than number two is on a lot of team.
51:14Like for everybody out there, like go look at Romeo Dobbs stat line from the Packers last year.
51:19It's not great. It's not even 900 yards. It's not even eight touchdowns.
51:23And he was a wide receiver three. It doesn't take a lot to be somebody usable.
51:28And that's my biggest thing is they if he is the clear number two and this offense is capable, he'll be usable
51:35for the probably the first time in his career.
51:38And that's why it feels so like I can't believe I come back around to one more.
51:43One last time. This is the last time, Chris, I will ever recommend Jahan Dawson to anybody again.
51:49Yeah. But are you really recommending him? I mean, that's true.
51:52Super deep sleep. That's true. You're not really. I think you're you're the paper trail is clear.
51:58I think you're OK. And it's interesting because Branch is still the only one who even gets close to being drafted as the as the next guy.
52:06I don't I don't see Dawson anywhere in in the full like 300, almost 300 names on the real time fantasy pros ADP.
52:13So you're you're you're isolating an inefficient three 42.
52:16Yeah. Yeah. You're isolating an inefficiency because I don't think there's any question the way they've talked about it again that can get shattered after week one.
52:24But the way they've talked about it, I don't think there's any question that they're kind of slow playing Branch.
52:30You might see more Zaccheaus than Branch and they don't really play the same position and they don't really have anybody else to play on the outside.
52:39There might be some wind sprints being done by Jahan Dawson where he's maybe not seeing the ball that much, but that's
52:46why you're not offering to actually take him. You're just saying alerting him to, you know, so I, in other words, the depth chart would say you're right.
52:54I think whether we'll that will manifest in anything.
52:57Great. Let's let's watch Falcons games and find out.
53:00But I think the depth chart would indicate you found an inefficiency in how the market is drafting.
53:06My last running my last name we're going to talk about today is a running back and he's a rookie.
53:12And it's Seth McGowan of the Colts. And I will just say that, you know, I, I have a Patriots.
53:18I don't want to call him a source, but like a birdie.
53:22I have a little birdie who comes to my shoulder and tells me about things about the Patriots.
53:27And one thing I heard after the first joint practice Patriots Colts, they were, they were like, we did not think Seth McGowan was good.
53:35And we got through that practice and we were like, that guy's good.
53:39And that does seem to jibe a lot with what beat reporters are saying.
53:43And DJ Giddens seems like he might actually be in trouble.
53:47I will say that I'm bummed because last Monday show, not this past, but the one before Matt Walden, I was happy
53:54to have Matt Walden on, but I kind of ran my Seth McGowan take by him.
53:59And he was like, I don't know, Chris, I don't know, maybe just a guy.
54:03And I don't know the rookies at all. I don't watch college.
54:07I don't scout them. You know, I'm, I can't tell you really that much.
54:11I'm kind of just latching on as a name to file away.
54:15And I have filed away specifically because what I was told lining up with a lot of rosy beat reports, rosy beat
54:22reports often turn out to be nothing. But, and also I know that of the running backs out there who have full-time
54:29jobs, Jonathan Taylor's as close as they get. If he's healthy, clearly there's no one, no room for anybody else to play, but he's not always healthy.
54:37It's like every other year he doesn't wind up healthy.
54:40So I'm not taking him. I'm not handcuffing really.
54:43I'm not handcuffing too many running backs anymore. Like that feels like a artifact from a time when there were alphas and
54:50there just aren't as many alphas anymore. Um, but as a, as a like file it away, I have kept over the
54:57past month, Seth McGowan's name back in the back of my brain.
55:00And I think it's a good one for everything you said.
55:04Like the fact that we were going after, including myself, DJ Giddens on the list.
55:08And the fact that you had him as a super deep last year, hoping there was a similar kind of value.
55:15Yeah. Because the, it was the question of who is behind Jonathan Taylor.
55:19And as in some of these situations, which I think is the most important thing that you brought up there is like
55:26these handcuffs that if the guy stays healthy the entire year, it's basically a wasted pick, especially if you hold onto them
55:33for the entire year and a wasted bench spot.
55:36But if you're looking at it, Jonathan Taylor, like you said, like any running back, especially with that workload, it's not so
55:42much the fact that even running backs get hurt more than wide receivers.
55:46It's as so many touches, there's the increase in injury opportunity.
55:50And it's a lot of touches for Jonathan Taylor that everybody seems to be bringing up Christian McCaffrey and all the rest.
55:57And everybody's just saying, yeah, yeah, Jonathan Taylor is not ever going to get hurt.
56:01He's been hurt a couple of times. And McAllen's not the best running back out there.
56:06Like I'm with you. I think of, I kind of thought of like Chris Rodriguez with him.
56:12Like, yeah, he's cool. He'll push the pile. I think the best thing I ever heard anybody say about Chris Rodriguez is
56:18if you need three yards, he'll get you three yards.
56:21If you need seven yards, he'll get you three yards.
56:25If he needs one yard, you'll get three yards.
56:27Like that's just Chris Rodriguez. And that's kind of feels like what McGowan is going to be.
56:33But if you said to everybody out there, Chris Rodriguez is the backup to Jonathan Taylor.
56:38He would be drafted because they know Chris Rodriguez.
56:40So I'm with you. I think this is a great call.
56:44Bringing up that question of handcuffs, just as a wave, like ending your segment here.
56:48I'm trying, like I'm taking, you know, I'm doing a lot of drafts, so I can't say I'd always do this, but
56:55even in times when I don't take McCaffrey, I will take Kalen Black sometimes.
57:00And when I do take McCaffrey, I definitely take Kalen Black.
57:03That's one where I find myself handcuffing for obvious reasons.
57:06McCaffrey is such a big investment that, you know, you just, and he's got such a checkered injury history that you just
57:13feel like you're a little more covered. I don't know if you have an exhaustive list like in your head.
57:19Do you handcuff anybody else on a regular basis if you take the main guy?
57:24Uh, not, I can't think of anybody else outside of maybe Saquon Barkley with Tank Bigsby because now for the longest time I was against Barkley.
57:32Yeah. I was against the Barkley backup because it was never a clear answer.
57:36It was always multiple guys. And I think that's the biggest thing we're looking for is the part that you put in
57:43there of, so real quick, my stance has usually been, I want to draft other people's handcuffs because that gives me, that's
57:50the riskier method because you potentially get two top 20 running backs, but you also potentially end up with a big fat zero if you don't have yours.
57:59But my point always being is you're, you're a net one if you draft your own.
58:04That being said, the conditions where I do look for my own is exactly what you said.
58:09First round draft capital, high injury risk, Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, even like a Jonathan Taylor.
58:14If we knew, like I said, if we knew that he was Chris Rodriguez, um, that's probably the end of the list
58:21because like Chase Brown, not going after who's behind him.
58:24And, uh, you know, yeah. Like James Cook, that one feels like it's going to be a split if anything were to happen.
58:31So that's what I'm looking for is what you said.
58:34It's probably a list of two or three names.
58:37And I'm trying to think if there's even a third, uh, that I got one for the, I, I'm not sure it's an exhaustive list.
58:45Cause I didn't plan on asking you this. It just led this, the McGowan conversation led into this, but I have taken Brian Robinson.
58:52Yes. But I've taken the funny thing is because unless you have a top two pick, you're not getting B John.
58:59I have a lot of Brian Robinson, like a lot of him.
59:02So because of that, because he's somebody that, like you said, with the Kalen black is even if I don't have B
59:09John Robinson, I am going to take Brian Robinson and that eighth, ninth round range because Hey, guess what?
59:15You didn't handcuff him, but I got your handcuff.
59:18If something happens to him, who's the clear next one up?
59:21I was going to say the one other, but he's kind of going cost prohibitive is Blake Coran behind Kyron Williams.
59:28Like he's kind of pricey for, for a clear handcuff.
59:31Yeah. It's, I don't think I could draft them both.
59:34I think you have to almost make a call, you know, it's expensive.
59:38Like, like the pro the problem is that the notion of the obvious clear backup is not really a thing in the NFL anymore.
59:45Everything's a platoon. Right. And therefore like, is Kyle Monongai good to have if you have John Dres Smith?
59:51Yeah. But you, it's hard to afford both of them is, you know, like Keaton Mitchell good.
59:57If you do a Marian Hampton. Sure. Except for Mitchell, if he's not hurt, might have standalone value himself.
60:02Plus it's probably not a clear one-to-one replacement because it would be some come on a Vidal and it may be some come on a Vidal anyway.
60:11You know, I'll tell you another one. I have a draft that I had the one pick and I took, oh, it's your draft.
60:18It's the flex league. We're still in the middle of the slow draft.
60:22And I had Jameer. We're in the league together.
60:25We're drafting it right now. I have Jameer Gibbs and I made sure to take Isaiah Pacheco.
60:30That's a deeper league. And I think Pacheco is handcuffable, actually.
60:34Yeah. Especially if he's healthy. Absolutely. I was going to throw out a good example of, to what you were just saying,
60:41though, also like where it can become cost per hit is because look at the rocket ship strapped to Marshawn Lloyd now that we know he's healthy.
60:49He's clearly the backup. He went from, yeah, I'll take him the last couple of rounds, maybe even the final round to
60:56now you have to spend almost a Blake Corum level pick to get him.
61:00Yeah. Yeah. We talked about him on the Yacht Club with Andy yesterday and definitely that ADP is changing.
61:06He was one of my dynasty risers for sure.
61:09Yeah. And so like this, this is probably the general rule.
61:12I would say it's, it's, if it's some level of platoon and it's not a first or maybe a second round running
61:19back, I don't feel obligated because I don't want to spend a seventh on a running back on the same team.
61:26That's too valuable a spot for me. And often that's where the, you know, the next guy on a team goes.
61:32And then like you said, uh, if it's just not a clear succession plan, if the main guy gets hit, it's, it's
61:39really tough to say, cool, I'll take one half of what's left.
61:43You know, it's so we, we did kind of isolate it down and, but Jonathan Taylor might be one of those guys.
61:50So who knows? Maybe like, like you said, we don't know what Seth McGowan is and we don't know if he has
61:56the job, but maybe if I take Taylor, you know, right?
62:00Labor day weekend after DJ Giddens gets cut, maybe I do handcuff McGowan to him.
62:04And then I feel dumb for having him included on the super deep sleeper.
62:09Cause he's not supposed to get drafted. Um, all right.
62:12Yeah. Great job. Thank you for doing this. Once again, uh, I think, I think we came up with a great list.
62:19I'll put our list so far in today's show notes.
62:22You can of course find Jake on social media, follow him at all in kid, wherever you follow people.
62:28And, uh, you'll find a list of all the things that he does.
62:32He does many, many things when this show posts, I believe you will be in Chicago and you'll be hanging out with
62:39the athletic folks and our good friend, Andy Barron.
62:41So that should be pretty fun for you. Absolutely.
62:44I'm actually, he doesn't know this yet, but I'm bringing him a band kickers t-shirt.
62:49Thank you so much for listening. I'm sure Andy is going to be thrilled.
62:53I have a band kickers t-shirt. I have it wear it proudly from Jake and Andy is going to join the club.
63:00I want to thank Jake for being on. I want to thank you so much for listening and let's thank the sponsors because without sponsors, there's no show.
63:09We had draft Kings and better help and trust and will.
63:12If you were interested in what I had to say about today's sponsors, you can find their information in today's show notes
63:19and all the current sponsors are listed at harrisfootball.com.
63:22If you have the means and you have a need and you can use the codes, that's how the whole thing keeps going.
63:29You take wonderful ownership of the show. I can't tell you how many people over the course of this tour have said,
63:36oh yeah, and I've got this and I've got that.
63:39Various sponsors. It's just so lovely. People do take ownership.
