A.J. Brown

NegativeInjury18:25

Brown left the game in the third quarter with an ankle sprain and underwent X-rays; Harmon notes the usage was concerningly 'X-receiver heavy' with 97% of snaps outside, which may limit his efficiency even when healthy.

Insight page

Brock Bowers

NegativeInjury24:06

Bowers underwent a meniscus trim and is expected to miss one to two weeks. Harmon notes this is a significant blow for fantasy managers who drafted him as a consensus top-tier tight end.

Insight page

Carnell Tate

NegativeProjection36:04

Tate is noted as the top drafted receiver in his class, but Tice expresses caution due to the Titans' rough preseason performance, suggesting fantasy managers should be patient.

Insight page
NegativeProjection48:03

Carnell Tate is ranked outside the top 30 receivers for Week 1. While the Titans are using RPOs to create first-read opportunities for him, Harmon advises patience due to a tough early-season schedule (Eagles, Giants, Ravens, Texans). He is viewed as a better long-term dynasty asset than a redraft starter.

Insight page

Charlie Kolar

PositiveSleeper31:16

Kolar is identified as a deep sleeper tight end who is expected to lead the Chargers' tight ends in snaps and possesses an underrated receiving profile.

Insight page

Colston Loveland

PositiveBreakout122:47

Harmon is extremely high on Loveland for Week 1 against the Panthers. The Panthers' defense struggles against tight ends, having allowed the second-most EPA to the position last year. Loveland's ability to attack vertically and his usage as a de facto receiver in heavy personnel packages make him a high-upside play.

Insight page

Drake Maye

NegativeProjection18:53

Matt Harmon expresses concern over Maye's performance, noting he went 0-for-4 on deep passes with three interceptions and showed poor decision-making on a jump ball. Harmon notes a lack of adjustments in the postseason and the regular season opener, leading to skepticism about the New England offense.

Insight page
NegativeProjection22:25

Maye struggled with accuracy and decision-making, finishing 0-for-4 on deep passes with three interceptions; Harmon noted the ball appeared to flutter, raising questions about a potential shoulder issue or lack of trust in the scheme.

Insight page

Jadarian Price

NegativeUsage5:16

Price saw a frustrating rotation, playing 60% of early-down snaps but 0% of late-down snaps; he was replaced by Emmanuel Wilson in short-yardage and George Helani in passing situations, leading Harmon and Winks to downgrade him to a flex play rather than an RB2.

Insight page

Jeremiyah Love

NegativeInjury42:39

Jeremiah Love is dealing with a high-ankle sprain sustained on August 13th. Harmon treats this as a six-week injury, suggesting fantasy managers should be patient and wait until at least Week 3 or even November for him to become fully viable. He is currently ranked outside the top 20 for Week 1.

Insight page

Makai Lemon

NegativeRole51:56

Makai Lemon is a 'wait and see' prospect for fantasy. While he has vertical upside, Dontavian Wicks is expected to run more routes in Week 1. Lemon's fantasy value is tied to the Eagles' offensive efficiency and his ability to secure chunk plays rather than high target volume.

Insight page

Malachi Fields

PositiveRole116:30

Following the release of Darius Slayton, Fields is expected to see increased usage as an insert blocker in the Giants' run game. The team is likely to utilize 12 personnel, with Fields playing a key role in opening holes for the run game.

Insight page

Matthew Golden

PositiveRole103:06

Harmon expects Golden to be a full-time player in Week 1 and ranks him in a similar zone to Jaden Reed as a flex-viable option. Golden is viewed as a strong zone-beater, which aligns well with the Brian Flores-led Vikings defense that plays heavy zone coverage.

Insight page

Michael Mayer

PositiveValue28:38

With Brock Bowers sidelined, Mayer is a viable waiver wire add and a 'real live one' for fantasy managers. He fits the scheme well and is expected to see designer red-zone targets.

Insight page

Mike Washington Jr.

NegativeUsage41:10

Mike Washington Jr. is expected to share the Raiders' backfield with Ashton Gentie in Week 1. While Clint Kubiak has mentioned a 'split backfield,' Harmon interprets this as potentially an 80/20 split in favor of Gentie, making Washington a bench stash rather than a viable fantasy play.

Insight page

Omarion Hampton

PositiveUsage105:16

Harmon is high on Hampton for Week 1 against the Cardinals. The Cardinals' defense allowed the seventh-highest explosive play rate and fifth-highest missed tackles forced per reception last season. As a featured back and a heavy home favorite, Hampton has significant upside to go 'bonkers' in Mike McDaniel's explosive run scheme.

Insight page

Rashid Shaheed

NegativeUsage15:48

Shaheed played behind Cooper Kupp with a 75% route rate, leading Winks to suggest he may be an 'annual fall for it again' candidate who lacks the volume to be an every-week fantasy starter.

Insight page

Rhamondre Stevenson

PositiveUsage19:46

Stevenson operated as a bell-cow back with 18 carries and 5 receptions, totaling 95 yards. Harmon notes that if Ty Montgomery misses time, Stevenson is a fringe top-15 fantasy running back and a PPR asset, even against tough defenses like Seattle.

Insight page

Romeo Doubs

PositiveUsage27:17

Doubs was used as an outside rotational player rather than a primary target, playing a role similar to the departed Kayshawn Boutte; Harmon and Winks view his contract as a waste of capital if he remains a part-time player.

Insight page

Sam Darnold

NegativeInjury3:57

Darnold suffered a hip injury in the season opener, with early speculation from Twitter doctors suggesting a potential hip fracture; he was quickly ruled out, and Harmon expects a multi-week absence.

Insight page
NegativeInjury20:46

Darnold is undergoing medical evaluation for a hip injury, including a CT scan and an upcoming MRI. Harmon suggests this could result in a multi-week absence.

Insight page

Seth McGowan

PositiveSleeper40:54

Matt Harmon expresses excitement about Seth McGowan as a deep-league stash, primarily due to the potential opportunity available in the Colts' backfield.

Insight page

Tre Tucker

PositiveUsage29:57

With the injury to Brock Bowers, Harmon and Tice identify Tucker as the likely primary target in the Raiders' offense for the immediate future.

Insight page

Tyler Warren

PositiveUsage125:09

Despite injury concerns, Warren is viewed as a focal point of the offense. His ability to be a target for quarterbacks who need to get the ball out quickly, combined with designed touches and potential goal-line rushing opportunities, makes him a viable fantasy asset.

0:00Big show for you here today and oh my god it really is a big show we're gonna cover a ton a
0:06ton a ton of ground here on this particular episode starting with the first recap of the season and unlike last year's
0:12nightcaps I'm not doing these things solo every single time Hayden Winks is joining me for this one we recap Seahawks Patriots
0:18and a really disappointing effort from the Patriots offense and injuries big ones on both sides of the ball to Sam Darnold
0:24and AJ Brown tons to unpack with Hayden in that one then Nate Tice joins the show for the rest of the
0:30program we unpack the Brock Bowers injury I mean oh my god we've lost three I mean three players we're one game
0:36in and we've already lost three players to serious injuries huge bummer Nate and I talked through the Brock Bowers injuries we
0:41found out that was happening about three minutes before we went live today then the rest of the show we go through
0:47rookies what to expect from some of the first year players in week one which year two guys you should be starting
0:53in your fantasy lineups this Sunday all that and more coming up on today's show let's get into it what's going on
0:59everyone I'm Matt Harmon welcome to the Yahoo fantasy forecast nightcap and it is a hell of a night to talk ball
1:05the first game of the 2026 NFL season is in the books and joining me as he will for most of these
1:11nightcaps here it is my guy Hayden Winks Hayden that intro that the boys put together on the if you're watching with
1:17us here on the YouTube channel that looks really good unfortunately we do not have I mean I'll speak for myself we
1:23don't have any drinks here in the nightcap but my god after that game tonight we maybe we could have used one
1:29so a little coffee for further for the lad over here but I was hoping to be a quick podcast and then
1:35like everything happened tonight like multiple players maybe out weeks to months so yeah pretty wild night no very wild night Seahawks
1:4113 Patriots 10 and we have a lot to break down here honestly we have a lot to I mean Nate and
1:47I as if you're watching with us on YouTube and you're you haven't watched the full show yet or if you're listening
1:53on the audio feed you're about to hear Nate and I talk about a ton of other stuff on this show you're
1:59also going to hear us talk about the Brock Bowers news as well right off the top because we got that thing
2:04about three minutes before we went live what a day Hayden we're in a seven hour period three players that were top
2:1024 overall selections in Yahoo drafts this year just got banged right off the bat Brock Bauer is going to miss multiple
2:16weeks JSN's quarterback is injured in this game now he ended up having a really nice performance as we'll unpack here and
2:22AJ Brown has an ankle injury he is out for the game again we'll talk about the Seahawks and Patriots just fall
2:28out here and let's get into this on the Seahawks side of things first we are always going to start with the
2:34winners of the football game because spiritually that is the correct thing to do you mentioned it Sam Darnold hip injury what
2:40are you seeing off of that here coming out of this game what are people saying here yeah Twitter doctors are claiming
2:46that this could be like a hip fracture and if that's the case it'd be like multiple weeks it's not that to
2:52like full dislocated hip but obviously if you limp over to the locker room get x-rays get quickly ruled out with a
2:58hip injury never a good sign I think what makes this even worse is I don't think that drew lock is that
3:04intriguing here obviously JSN still gets home because you know he catches that hitch route and takes it to the house but
3:10man this is going to be really bad news for for JSN versus where he was drafted what fifth six overall and
3:16then also like you know Jadarian price those type of guys it's just going to be much harder to get home if
3:21they're going to be projected for 13 to 21 points rather last year they were hanging 30 to 30 points four times
3:27a knot yeah that's just going to be difficult I mean I will say it did feel like play caller Brian Flory
3:33obviously this is his first game ever calling plays here offensive coordinator wise and you get dealt a pretty bad hand where
3:39right away your quarterback is out for the entire game very early on in this contest it did feel like he settled
3:45into things I would say in the second half some really creative I mean at one point there was a penalty actually
3:51called in a play so we didn't get to see it but at one point like Rashid Jahid is lined up in
3:57the backfield Jadarian price is lined up out wide it sounded like it seemed like they were cooking up something there again
4:03they didn't get to run the play because of a penalty but like Cooper cup getting loose in this game for a
4:09couple of big plays down the field yeah that's right he's getting he's getting loose here he had a touchdown called back
4:15due to an illegal shift as well so I mean look I'm not going to sit here and overreact to a Drew
4:21Locke performance where he comes away with 187 yards but 73% completion rate he at least got the ball out and got
4:27things in play here for a Seahawks team that again coming out of it right away I'm like oh man they are
4:33completely screwed here so yeah definitely not going to put lipstick on the pig here if we are without Sam Darnold for
4:39a while we're docking our Seahawks players but I know I'll give Drew Locke like a tip of the cap for being
4:44functional here oh yeah yeah definitely so the Patriots defense is definitely an above average unit on top of that so I
4:50thought Fleury passed the test I would say he got a couple things going there what was kind of probably the most
4:56frustrating beyond JSN and JSN is going to be fine it's so easy to get him the ball that I think of
5:02all the players JSN is probably going to hold his value the best to me the one if I was going to
5:08be knocking the most would be Jadarian price coming out of this game because of the rotation there was a couple moments
5:14there he played about 60% of the early down snaps and then played about 0% of the late down snaps and there
5:20was another moment late in the game where he was out there for a first and 15 drew Locke scrambles at second
5:26and inches at the three yard line they bring in Emmanuel Wilson who is barely playing in that game for a short
5:32yarded situation drew Locke that's when he has the delay of game which is very drew Locke of him but that was
5:38like another moment where it's very Kenneth Walker of last regular season where Jadarian price of that was looking good and then
5:44in short yarded situations here comes Emmanuel Wilson and then in passing situations it's George Helani so this is one where I
5:50was hoping we were going to avoid this but I think just looking at the context of context of last year if
5:56Kenneth Walker was dealing with this like I'm kind of taking this at face value with Jadarian price and that if they're
6:01not going to be hanging up 25 30 points per game and this is more of a 21 point team with drew
6:07Locke for the next couple weeks here that's just gonna be really tough for Jadarian price to be a top 25 fantasy running back.
6:14Yeah and I mean they can absolutely win this way because we'll talk about this a lot on the other side when
6:20we get to the Patriots like this defense I mean I wasn't worried about it but they have not lost anything they
6:26were pitching heat all night the secondary was great there just I mean I know people are going to get their jokes
6:32off on Ramondre Stevenson because that's just like a fantasy Twitter requirement and he doesn't come away with an impressive rushing line
6:38here but what do you want him to do what do you want to do against the Seahawks run defense it's absolutely
6:44insane insane so I mean they can get away with playing like this which I think they'll lean into that tendency overall
6:49but yeah I mean price looked good in this game I thought he looked explosive he looked like he passed the eye
6:55test to me they had a lot of success using outside zone which was what you'd expect they were over 50% according
7:01to Sumer sports which does some great live tracking of the games as well if you guys want to check that out
7:07they were over 50% outside a zone rate 14 carries for over 80 yards out of 12 personnel so it looked a
7:13lot like what we saw from Seattle's offense last year they got JSN a play out of the backfield as well it's
7:19just you know if you're going to have Drew Locke in there and not Sam Darnold that's going to be a problem
7:25plus like yeah I mean Kenneth Walker is a great player he's in this rotation there's no incentive to me to like
7:31make Jadarian Price anything more of just like you know maybe a newer version of Kenneth Walker from last season yeah I
7:37think he's going to be more of a flex play than RB2 which is I think disappointing because we were looking for
7:43like someone in that round five round six turn to kind of break out and I would guess that the other running
7:49backs have a better chance at this point than Jadarian Price didn't want to quickly mention Christian Gonzalez is awesome at his
7:55job whenever JSN and Christian Gonzalez were matched up I thought Sego was willing winning those matchups and then whenever JSN got
8:01anybody else it was just automatic first down so just whenever we're facing Christian Gonzalez he doesn't shadow everyone for every single
8:06snap that's not what happens in the NFL but I think tonight was like another classic example of Christian Gonzalez being one
8:12of the best corners in football yeah there's a reason they paid him that money Steven Ruiz had this one only seven
8:18snaps of Christian Gonzalez matched up against Jackson Smith and Jigba that was with that was about 11 05 Eastern so you
8:24know again maybe there were more snaps after that I can't exactly remember but two targets zero catches so everything else as
8:30Hayden is saying that's where JSN got it and that's pretty much what you can do against this Patriots defense like it's
8:36a it's a good certainly above average defense but not one of the best ones in the league because you can pick
8:42some other nits here and yeah Christian Gonzalez is a stud he's he's going to be one of the best corners in
8:48the league but you can find other areas to take advantage of and again I think Brian Flory as the game went
8:54on did a really good job of finding those spots with JSN so I feel like I'm coming out of this game
9:00obviously disappointed with Sam Donard I would guess right now if you had to you know make me speculate is probably going
9:06to be at least a multi-week absence here we're going to get some games of Drew Locke but I felt pretty good
9:12about what I felt pretty good about just the way the run game was effective even if it didn't lead into Jadarian
9:18Price being you know the fantasy football you know running back to that we might want still overall feel pretty good about
9:24what I saw from the Seahawks offense the next two games by the way Hayden if we do have to go through
9:29a Drew Locke setting in Arizona against the Cardinals in Washington against the Commanders so I feel pretty good about that part at least.
9:36Yeah JSN will be a fantasy wide receiver one for my rankings in those matchups even with Drew Locke on both sides
9:42of the ball though we had like kind of depth wide receivers who were paid really well this offseason Rashid Shahid and
9:48Romeo Dobbs Rashid Shahid was still playing behind Cooper Cup and in a lot of the game about 75% route rate for
9:54Rashid Shahid so that's going to be a little bit difficult for him to get be fantasy relevant in that in that
10:00side and then Romeo Dobbs when we talk about the Patriots I mean my goodness that was one of the the worst
10:06games you can make in a debut yeah we'll get to my god we'll get to the whole Romeo Dobbs thing here
10:11in a second but yeah I do feel like Rashid Shahid I mean I really like Rashid Shahid as a player but
10:17he does feel like maybe an annual fell for it again candidate where it's like oh man we're gonna get him more
10:23involved and then it just yep Cooper Cups out there getting it done by the way like I said I thought Cooper
10:29Cup looked pretty good out there tonight not a big reason to seed a bunch of snaps here so again I think
10:35she Shahid will play a valuable role for this team I think all the ancillary players will play valuable roles for this
10:41team but are any of them going to be every week fantasy starters or even close to it I don't think so
10:47I think it's Jackson Smith and Jigba and we keep it moving from there and you know maybe Jadarian Price carves out
10:53more of a role as the season goes on but just after tonight I think Hayden's right you're probably ranking him as
10:59more of a flex play than a running back two right now let's go to the Patriots side of things here because
11:05man this was a discouraging outing on a lot of different ways obviously the number one factor being that AJ Brown early
11:11on in the third quarter with about just under 14 minutes left in the third quarter he leaves the game with an
11:17ankle sprain he limped to the locker room as you noted here he had x-rays on that thing and then you know
11:23you've got the Twitter doc speculating is it a medial ankle sprain is it a high ankle sprain we will find out
11:28more about that after the game but not a great debut again for AJ Brown with the injury leaving here early yeah
11:34it's big big big time bummer here typically what this is a multi-week injury but we'll just we'll learn more this they
11:40at least have you know because it's a freaking Wednesday night he has more time to get back out there but but
11:46I mean come on this is it's it's too early to tell it didn't look good to me but you never know
11:52yeah you never know I don't think the Patriots offense looked good at all tonight and I do know that for sure
11:58by the way just on the AJ Brown usage before he left this game it was a little bit of what I
12:04was concerned about here which is just all x receiver all the time basically I'm not 100% sure how up to date
12:10these numbers are but what I'm looking at right now is 97% snaps out wide 3% snaps in the slot and it
12:16felt like a lot of on ball usage for AJ Brown and you know I talked about this I got I think
12:22I talked about it with Nate at some point here recently maybe on this show or 301 it's all running together now
12:28these end of summer shows but I was really concerned after charting Kayshawn Booty's profile for reception perception just how outside on
12:34the ball and go route heavy this offense was with Kayshawn Booty I mean Hayden I've charted almost 600 receiver seasons for
12:40reception perception since 2014 there have only been four guys in RP history you know so 12 years now that have lined
12:46up outside and on the ball on over 90% of their snaps two of them played for the New England Patriots last
12:51year Kayshawn Booty and Kyle Williams I did not chart Nelson Aguilar in 2021 another Josh McDaniels offense he was outside on
12:5793% of his snaps that season Kayshawn Booty had the third highest go route percentage I've ever charted Kyle Williams was fifth
13:03Nelson Aguilar just looking at PFF data he was also over 30% go route so I already kind of was worried about
13:09like an inefficient role for AJ Brown anyways and I felt like I saw that it was hard to tell obviously watching
13:15broadcast but you know he did feel like he's in the X only role in this offense which is already going to
13:21be a high wire act even if he's not playing like back through a high ankle sprain in a couple weeks or
13:27something like that yeah that was really discouraging I thought they were going to play him in the slot a little bit
13:33more than what they did so I think that's that's going to be a huge bummer even when he does come back
13:39and McDaniels like just so stubborn with how he calls plays the Seahawks pretty much ran the same blitz as they did
13:45in the Super Bowl like the entire game and they did not have an answer for it repeatedly there were so many
13:51plays where either Drake May was spooked or he would have to break out of the pocket kind of throw the ball
13:57away luckily Drake May is such an effective scrambler that he was able to pick up some first downs and like keep
14:03them in it but I thought that the coaching difference between the two teams was pretty night and day in favor of
14:08the Seahawks there's some like really bad decisions I thought from Vrabel throughout the game but to me it's just that Josh
14:14McDaniels is so stubborn and so predictable and that's going to be the concerning part for them as they don't have AJ
14:20Brown and they don't have Kayshawn Booty it'd be nice to have Kayshawn Booty right now like what was the point of
14:26the Kayshawn Booty trade I like truly what was the point other than he was upset I mean I obviously that's a
14:32big factor if he's not going to be want to be there or something like that but you know you come out
14:38of this and it's not even like you play it's not even like you play Kyle Williams is that vertical X receiver
14:44it's just very bizarre and beyond also just the the AJ Brown and what he's doing from an alignment perspective I mean
14:50I tweeted about this after the second half you could essentially tell what the play was going to be in 11 personnel
14:56specifically if Matt Collins is on the field or not in the first half Matt Collins was second among the receivers in
15:02snaps and he was fourth in routes 18 snaps to according to Nathan Yonke from PFF 18 snaps four routes and again
15:08a lot of it was in 11 personnel like if he's on the field they're running that football if he's not there
15:14then then it's a pass play and then it was like Romeo Dobbs time who again in the first half runs 10
15:20routes to 13 routes for AJ Brown 12 routes for Demario Douglas it was nice that they kind of went back to
15:26pop Douglas as that man coverage answer but it weren't a lot of opportunities against man coverage against in Seattle's defense so
15:31it's just very bizarre game from the Patriots offense all the way around and certainly from a coaching perspective like I mean
15:37it's this is a big week one overreaction but did the Patriots offense get any better from last year obviously yeah no
15:43they did not and that's a big part of his like AJ Brown misses half this game but still even with that
15:49I feel like I didn't see much advantages or many changes here yeah the offensive line couldn't block for reminder Stevenson on
15:55the run plays they didn't have like good answers down the football field and whenever Drake May was like trying to throw
16:01the ball either over the middle or there's a couple deep passes the AJ Brown pass interference one there was a couple
16:07times where Drake May there was like no zip on the ball like is he playing with like some like mysterious shoulder
16:13injury or something but like that was not the MVP player and I think some of it was maybe a little bit
16:19hesitant on exactly what he was seeing and maybe being spooked by all the pressures and maybe didn't trust Josh McDaniels either
16:25but that was like a bizarre performance by Drake May just like watching him and watching the ball leave his hand sometimes
16:31the ball was kind of fluttering so that was that was pretty bizarre and speaking of the offseason just the Romeo Dobbs
16:37part of this they gave him all that money Matt Collins is out there for the first play of the game and
16:43I believe that was a run play as you were outlining and then at one point in the game he only played
16:48two of 14 snaps outside of 11 personnel three wide receivers so Romeo Dobbs was literally just an outside rotational player pretty
16:54much a version of the Kayshawn role they did not move him inside either like the only player playing inside was Pop
17:00Douglas and they used a lot of Eli Raritan which is pretty cool but I mean to give Romeo Dobbs all that
17:06money and he's gonna be a part-time player because you got to get Matt Collins and the rest of these guys out
17:12there I mean man that is just like a total waste of capital and he might get home now because AJ Brown's
17:18gonna be out for a little bit but if AJ Brown left or didn't leave this game Romeo Dobbs gonna be in
17:24pretty big trouble of trying to be fantasy relevant this season oh yeah I mean we'll see what happens with AJ Brown's
17:30injury but if Brown is out there and the usage looks anything like that I mean he's not even a guy that
17:36you need to roster in fantasy which is a shame because I thought he was somebody that would be in an interesting
17:42role but if he's going to be this rotational slot-based player yeah the contract makes no sense I don't even think that
17:48really makes a ton of sense for his skill set anyways as a player like he was really good for the Packers
17:54last year a much better I mean like he was a fine starting receiver for the Packers last year Romeo Dobbs as
18:00an outside on-ball receiver they're kind of overloaded with outside on-ball receivers right now Matt Collins included who again I get it
18:06he's like a gritty player feeds off the energy every now again he's gonna make a big play on the end breakers
18:11that he's a good blocker sure but it just seems a little weird the Matt Collins kind of obsession with this team
18:17and they just don't feel any more dynamic again I know this is easy to say and maybe unfair of me to
18:23say because AJ Brown misses half this game but they certainly did not feel any more dynamic on offense in this game
18:29than they did at any point last year when they actually played some good teams late in the year and your point
18:35about Drake May too I want to come back to that I mean what what was that tonight I mean on the
18:41first Dobbs target there was an interception I mean that was just like a freaking lollipop Drake May throws up to Romeo
18:47Dobbs I don't I don't Dobbs actually had a little bit of space between the corner and the safety there and like
18:53he leads him back inside in the jump ball situation that made no sense pretty ugly looking throw from Drake May here
18:59as we're showing on the screen on a zero for four on deep passes with three interceptions tonight oh that's yeah brutal
19:05and then obviously AJ Brown should have scored the touchdown that that ball was underthrown it was a defensive pass interference sometimes
19:11that's just what they do but man it just felt off everything about New England felt off I feel like they just
19:17felt the pressure from Seattle that's an awesome awesome defense they were missing some key players like Tai Okuda was out Nicky
19:23Manwari was out they they were bringing in a new cornerback too because Rick Wolin is no longer with the team so
19:28like if there was a time to like kind of catch the Seahawks slipping a little bit in the secondary like this
19:34was kind of the time because they were dealing with some injuries and still it just like felt totally off so if
19:40he didn't have the 47 rushing yards he would have been a total bust in fantasy my last note for the skill
19:46group Ramondre Stevenson 18 carries and then five receptions he's always just going to be that check down artist if Travion's not
19:52going to be out there they barely mixed in the other two backs out there a complete bell cow roll so didn't
19:58look pretty but he did have what 95 total yards caught some passes and against lesser competition this would be a fringe
20:04top 15 fantasy running back if Travion misses more time yeah no this was a about as good as you could hope
20:10for for Ramondre Stevenson going against the Seahawks defense which is the best run defense in the league last year looks like
20:16it's going to be the best run defense in the league this year they get the Steelers in week two in Jacksonville
20:22against the Jaguars Buffalo in week four so you know some hit or miss matchups overall but yeah I like the way
20:28Zane put this here I guess without AJ Brown it's PPR Ramondre like we're gonna get a PPR scam with Ramondre Stevenson
20:34I guess here that will be quite the scene so yeah didn't feel great about what I saw out of New England's
20:40offense we will wait to see with an update on AJ Brown but we did get an update as we were taping
20:46this on Sam Darnold Adam Schefter of ESPN alerts us that Sam Darnold has been at a Harborview Medical Center in Seattle
20:51undergoing CT scan on his hip the initial test was encouraging but inconclusive Darnold's gonna get an MRI on Thursday so we'll
20:57await more updates on that here but yeah uh I'm it seems like it could be a multi-week absence here for Darnold
21:03we'll wait to find out any other final thoughts on this game Hayden a little bit of a a slobber knocker type
21:09game for our first one in 2026 I think predictably so but it was I think a little bit discouraging to see
21:15both those offenses start the way that they did and uh on that for for Sam Darnold not good we have to
21:21get an x-ray a cat scan and then an MRI I mean that's that's never how you want to draw it up
21:27that's the trifecta right there you don't want to have that happen uh on your first day at work for the football
21:33season here yeah I will just say leaving this game a little concerned with what I saw out of Drake May from
21:39a physical standpoint don't know what's going on there I mean my god injuries after injuries after injuries uh so who knows
21:45what's happening with that one but Josh McDaniels definitely on my radar uh was kind of on my radar coming into the
21:51season especially with how just bad the playoffs was and I mean we all piled on Drake May I get that that's
21:57what you're going to do because he's you know the new exciting quarterback and people hate anything new and exciting but I
22:03just didn't really see any adjustments in the postseason from him did not see any adjustments tonight so pretty skeptical on what
22:09we're going to get out of New England's offense but that could just be a week one overreaction we will wait and
22:14see okay Hayden shout out to you great first uh showing here on the Yahoo fantasy forecast nightcap we got another one
22:20of these tomorrow bro I mean lock in okay football season is absolutely back uh but for now that's going to do
22:26it for us here if you're listening to us on the audio version we're going to throw to the rest of the
22:32show with Nate Tice right now football is back baby and back to talk a little ball with me it is my
22:38good friend Nate Tice Nate what's going on buddy not too much uh any news just happened right before we go live
22:44I don't know man I don't know that made me excited no great to be here great to do this so excited
22:50for another season to start Wednesday night football here we go oh my god Nate yeah I was trying to be professional
22:56and like just loop that in in a second but uh yes we do have some big news to talk about that
23:02we just got breaking here about five minutes ago but we do have a packed show here ahead of us we are
23:08going to talk to Brock Bowers injury we'll get to that in just a minute the rest of the show is going
23:14to be absolutely jam-packed as well we've got dynasty debates our new weekly segment here with Nate Tice we also have our
23:20first we have our very first edition of the versed flex fit check and we're going to preview Thursday night football as
23:26we will every single week here reminder for those of you watching live as well we do appreciate the hell out of
23:31you here on the YouTube channel we are very very excited that football is back if you're listening on the audio feed
23:37or watching this back on demand I hope you enjoyed the nightcap with me and Hayden nice to have Hayden along with
23:43me you know recapping Patriots Seahawks and and some of these nighttime games instead of just me talking to myself for 15
23:49to 20 minutes although clearly uh I can handle doing that so again we're going to get to all of that here
23:55as the show goes through but yes breaking news that we found out five minutes before this I mean I don't even
24:01know where to begin this this is absolute insanity Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that all pro tight end Brock Bowers underwent
24:07a meniscus trim Tuesday in Dallas and is now expected to miss quote a game or two league sources told him and
24:13Ian Rappaport uh Bowers got banged up quote a little bit in camp and the injury was diagnosed last week and surgery
24:19um wow I mean Nate this is why you always gotta wait until uh five minutes before uh five minutes before the
24:25first game kicks off to draft your fantasy football teams uh injuries are inescapable here apparently this is crazy uh can't remember
24:31something like this happening in recent history you can correct me if I'm missing someone here but yeah this is one of
24:37the best players uh you know in the game people are expecting to be the best tight end in fantasy football he's
24:43went up the board as a tight end one and now he's going to miss quote a game or two one season
24:49after a PCL injury basically ruined his season in 2025 Nate Tice yeah and meniscus too and it all depends on the
24:54wording here and what it really is but meniscus is really almost like a two to four week injury and that's just
25:00off knowing you know knowing past people that have had it so let's call it two weeks I mean this is a
25:06main I mean if you've already done your drafts which is 99.9% of people right now it's that this is like this
25:12was kind of like your strategy was taking Bowers you know you're taking Bowers to zag away from other positions and saying
25:18I'm gonna buy the tight end spot so yeah I mean he's one of the stars at his position could be the
25:24best at the very one of the best weapons in the game really and really an offense that should have I mean
25:30the whole preseason the Raiders were just highlighting Brock Bowers isolating him as a receiver and and our guy Trey Tucker you
25:36know those were the two guys there they were isolating the most but he was going to be the main cog of
25:42this offense everyone knows his star potential or not star potential the star quality is the thing that's worrisome is this was
25:48kind of his mo coming out of college was that he had a little he was a little banged up from a
25:54little heavy usage at Georgia so um him and lad actually so it's kind of now rearing its ugly head a couple
26:00times now in this young career and it's kind of like this is almost like opt in or expect this injury as
26:06opposed to in the past where it was just like you know oh man that's such bad luck so this is just
26:11a total bummer fantasy wise it's a bummer Raiders wise it's a bummer just you know football just neutral enjoying good players
26:17this is a bummer so unexpected and then on top of this we got the Tyler Smith injury uh uh with with
26:23the Cowboys which is also like a little damper on some of my Cowboys predictions so uh right now though just a
26:29couple brutal injuries for a couple teams in the past couple days I know absolutely a huge one uh we're going to
26:35talk about that uh Tyler Smith injury with Josh a little bit on the preview show tomorrow uh and yeah this Bowers
26:41one I mean I don't god where would he have been drafted if we knew this two weeks ago you know like
26:47he was a consensus second round pick I don't think he I ever saw him fall later than the second round he
26:53obviously in our tight end premium mock draft we did I was one of the top five picks off the board I
26:59believe in that tight end premium I mean so like again yeah he was expected to be the consensus tight end one
27:05maybe he can be at some point but like yeah just a little just a little trim off the meniscus uh a
27:11couple days before the season starts I don't I don't like that one bit like I said if this if this had
27:17happened if this news had broke two weeks ago I mean and he was going to miss quote a game or two
27:23and you're like it might be more of a four week thing I don't know maybe we don't see him until freaking
27:29October I mean it's it's September 9th we have a we have a game in four hours we have a game in
27:34four hours and we're finding out that Brock Bowers is going to miss I don't even have a lot of Brock Bowers
27:40teams and I'm tilted about this because it's just like so you know I mean I just wasn't drafting tight ends early
27:46this year I was preferring to shop in kind of the Colson Loveland Tyler Warren Tucker Craft bucket so I just don't
27:52I don't have a lot of Bowers here um but yeah I mean he was as you said supposed to be the
27:58engine of this entire offense and now I mean I'm I'm they're playing the Dolphins in week one which has to be
28:04just like the beautiful slot bowl of the week Nate Tice I think if we're if we're picking one here it that
28:10are the Jets and Titans that it's those are the two contenders here so now we'll certainly see a very different looking
28:16Raiders offense against a bad Dolphins defense offense in week one so I mean Jack Besh big slot receiver season come come
28:22like it's back on the menu Michael Mayer I mean you're not starting any of these players in fantasy but uh any
28:28sort of just like scouting notes on the Las Vegas Raiders are going to look very different now in week one than
28:34we probably were expecting I do think Michael Mayer is a real live one if you were just like hey I was
28:40Bowers ride or die and you just okay now I need a desperate oh tight end handcuff going on you know the
28:46classic tight end handcuffing fantasy I mean Mayer does have a lot of ability and he actually fits this Kubiak scheme pretty
28:51well um yeah I was actually kind of bullish on him in a real football sense on how he would fit I
28:57thought he was gonna get some maybe designer plays in the red zone he's a good blocker um a scrappy blocker uh
29:03and I think a kind of underrated receiver he's not as explosive as Bowers um but I actually do think he's valid
29:09if you are now desperate at tight end or even now that like if you're just hey this was part of my
29:15strategy and I was you know first one in last one out or last one in on tight ends okay Mayer is
29:21a nice little just like quick little waiver ad for at least a couple weeks until you see how this kind of
29:27heals um I do think the run game won't be affected as much the Dolphins are you know where they start out
29:33with the Dolphins and the Chargers Chargers defense should be okay we'll just say this two weeks um the Dolphins defense I
29:39mean this was should have been a juicy opportunity for him even if the Raiders offense is a work in progress because
29:45it's just who's gonna cover him uh they got some linebackers but I mean just DB wise it's you know safety's rotating
29:51down it's like I don't know who's gonna cover Bowers um so I do think that the run game won't be affected
29:57so if you were the genti or the Washington train um I would still say and I know it's a bit that
30:03just keeps growing on us unbelievably Trey Tucker's live uh I mean he's he was the number one receiver and now he's
30:09the number one target I would assume but I do think mayor is set up to maybe get a little I could
30:14see mayor being not like the high usage guy but maybe like a three four reception with maybe a end zone target
30:20uh because that's what this offense really likes to do once they get in the red zones those designer plays to the
30:26tight end the AJ Barner with the Seahawks last year he would get a couple of these so mayor is live for
30:32those if you again if you're feeling now a little bit desperate at the tight end spot for a week or two
30:38I absolutely was not ready to pull up like the Yahoo player list and see what the roster percentages are for these
30:44tight ends I was not ready to flex that muscle that was going to be like next week's muscle that I need
30:50to flex but here we've got it uh I've got it on the screen here uh Juwan Johnson's probably the guy he's
30:56rostered in 67 percent of Yahoo leagues so most people probably uh don't have a chance to get him but he would
31:02be like if you're in the other 33 percent ish whatever zone there I think that he'd probably be a great option
31:08because it's a great matchup in week one uh against the Detroit Lions I think that's going to be a high scoring
31:14game he's obviously a big winner with Jordan Tyson out uh but beyond that like we're going to talk about the Rams
31:20Niners game I think Terrence Ferguson is another deep dart throw that you could throw out there he's only rostered 26 percent
31:26of Yahoo leagues if you're getting real gross like Greg Dorset Greg Dolch in the same game against uh the Raiders he's
31:31available so I mean Charlie Kolar if you really want to get freaky is going to be the guy that plays the
31:37most snaps among the Chargers tight ends I would guess and has a has a really underrated receiving portfolio as a collegiate
31:43prospect Nate Tice uh that I think people don't talk about enough because he's been a great blocker in the league but
31:49he was actually a pretty prolific receiver at Iowa State as a prospect so and they're playing the Cardinals I think they're
31:55going to score a ton of points so yeah I did not expect to arrive at like who's the sleeper tight ends
32:01that you can pick up if freaking Brock Bowers is going to miss week one but here we are uh Juwan Johnson
32:07would be the obvious one as I said but again 67 percent rostered uh probably not a super super viable option for
32:13most people but we did at least give him some sicko names there yeah we did Charlie Kolar is actually a good
32:19job because again it might be more matchup based for how the Chargers are going to play this year but again this
32:25offense and just the targets the targets I think are dispersed a little bit different than in Dolph with the Dolphins where
32:31it was so hyper focused on the two fast receivers I'm talking about with Mike McDaniel's offense they named Charlie Clark tight
32:37end one I know people were shocked by that but I was like what do you expect after they paid him and
32:43just hyped him up you know week after week um so no I do think again kind of similar conversation what I
32:49just had with Mayor that's how his touches see more designery bootlegs you know you're not going to isolate him or you're
32:54not going to run like true third down plays for him but like you mentioned he's a good athlete uh you know
33:00that's kind of like the tight end motto for drafting these guys just get the biggest fastest athletes and hope they figured
33:06it out he's figured it out so I do think he's gonna overall he's an underrated fantasy asset this year anyways and
33:12again we're talking about desperation tight end 15 through 30s here but again those are the guys you want that are going
33:18to be on the field a lot because then maybe get those touchdowns to juice it up yeah if you're watching this
33:24right right now go ahead and pick Michael Mayor up and stick them on the end of your bench and see what
33:30happens and then we can kind of consider some of these other sick pup names here as we go along through the
33:36process okay let's let's all real quick take a deep breath together that was a lot that was a lot that we
33:42just had to deal with breaking Brock Bowers news five minutes before we kick off here uh again I don't even have
33:48any Brock Bowers teams and I'm completely tilted by this whole thing but that you know what that that does that does
33:54go to show like all the smart Alex on on social media when somebody gets injured on like August 24th like this
34:00is why you gotta wait till till Labor Day weekend to do your draft every day after Labor Day weekend and Brock
34:06Bowers second round pick is actually gonna miss two weeks so oh my god fantasy football we absolutely love it what a
34:11beautiful disaster of a hobby that we all participate in here okay let's get to the rest of the show here because
34:17we actually do have a big beefy show here including our first edition of a segment we're going to be doing here
34:23with Nate every single week welcome to Dynasty Debates all right so every week Nate and I are going to do a
34:29little bit of a deep dive it'll be pretty fantasy film room slash stat based as we've always done here Nate but
34:35we're going to kind of take a look at some of the younger players throughout the league and focus in on the
34:41dynasty landscape because this is what this is really where you cook uh especially when we're deep into the NFL season you
34:47know I do a lot of rookie charting for reception perception you're typically looking at some of these younger players you've got
34:53a great handle on these guys coming into the league as prospects as well I mean you were you were telling us
34:59about Kyle Monunga like two weeks into last season be like pick this you know pick this guy up just in case
35:05he ended up being a very viable fantasy player at different points last year so we're going to kind of swim in
35:11those waters throughout the regular season this first week we are going to start here looking at rookies and some second year
35:17players to kind of try to determine some realistic expectations for these guys in week one and maybe September as a whole
35:23we'll deep dive more on the rookies and take a quick look at some of the second year players so let's start
35:29with some of these rookies here Nate and I'll throw it to you this just as a general thought I'm looking at
35:34these rookies right now and I don't see a lot of great plays here in week one and maybe not in September
35:40uh it is definitely a it's gonna I think it's gonna have to be Ray mentioned this yesterday on the data dump
35:46show like you know generally you want to be patient with your rookies man uh this is definitely a year where we're
35:52gonna have to be patient with some of these rookies in my opinion yep we knew that kind of fall in the
35:58draft process you know it wasn't I mean even Carnell Tate the guy that was the top receiver drafted it was one
36:04of those guys that was like well he's the best of this group you know even how we teared him how we
36:10everyone scouted him like just overall tears all-time tears is everyone really liked him but it was like yeah he's the best
36:16of this but then he's going to a Titans offense that looked rough in the preseason um and I would say I've
36:22heard that practices looked a lot better but again what I see is it's hard to not to unsee what I saw
36:28with the Titans and I also heard with like Wendell Robinson's going to be their leading target getter at least for the
36:34early part of the season and so they kind of solidify everything especially the chemistry between Cam Ward and Tate but I
36:40agree with you the list um even the guys that you kind of maybe rattle off like um like the guy that's
36:46like most interesting to me is Dazon Stribling just because of opportunity uh you know the injuries of the other receivers um
36:51the you know potential injuries I should say with Mike Evans Devo Samuel the opportunities there I think their offense might be
36:57a little bit you've talked about this wants to be a little bit more dropback heavy who knows how that run game
37:03is going to be so I do think Stribling has opportunities that really of this young group it's just kind of a
37:09continuation of just the scouting process where it's like none of these guys were hard blue chip guys there's a lot of
37:15good and a lot of kind of like oh I like this guy in day two that maybe got over drafted just
37:21because of the circumstances but that also leads just opportunities because two of the guys that we really like Casey Concepcion and
37:27Denzel Boston am I am I really expecting Sean Watson to like lead the lead me the way to fantasy relevance this
37:33year we'll find out I have a lot Denzel Boston this year but it's like back-end stashes just in case but like
37:39those opportunities just eh Makai Lemon another first down receiver he's been banged up also a little little underwhelming during camp as
37:45well and it's also kind of a wait and see because I got to see what this offense looks like he's not
37:51a guy I'm like oh yeah all the stars are aligning I could see this move to the moon it's more just
37:57a lot of wait and see with all these guys so yeah it's it wasn't an overwhelming class and it feels that
38:03way when I drafted these guys in either dynasty leagues or redraft leagues yeah you know you mentioned stripling is the guy
38:09you might feel the most confident about like from a role perspective in week one and by the way imagine telling yourself
38:14that in like mid-April because I know you and I both got to stripling kind of what one of our last watches
38:20I think and we both you had him as a top 50 player I had him as a day two receiver so
38:26we were generally in on stripling as a player but again imagine saying that like oh in September you're gonna feel the
38:32best about stripling and by the way Nate like I don't know if I feel that great about stripling in week one
38:38maybe I'm hedging my bets here because I am really optimistic about him but you know it's a Rams defense that's obviously
38:44beefed up even if they're not going to have Aaron Donald in that game we'll talk more about the defense as we
38:50get to it but they're one of their big things was like let's add some real physical cornerbacks this year after that
38:56was a problem for them late last season so that's just like it's maybe not the best matchup in week one for
39:02stripling and by the way like if I'm just again I maybe I'm trying to hedge for him a little bit because
39:08he became like the Twitter main character for fantasy in in the month of August and you know if he doesn't go
39:14out there in his first game and he does like nothing people are going to be all over him and I'm going
39:20to feel bad for the guy but shoot like if he comes out and runs the third most routes among the receivers
39:26you know behind Mike Evans and Debo Samuel and he's kind of like a 63% route participation player that's not somebody that
39:31you would want to start in fantasy football if you knew that going into it and I wouldn't be surprised if that's
39:37the role for him learning a complicated offense in the very first game of the season in a foreign country Australia you
39:43know for the first game like that wouldn't surprise anybody no they've been hey they've been there for a week did you
39:49see Kyle Shanahan's kind of like him explaining the days like talking about practice days and everything he's like this is a
39:55Wednesday but it's a Monday to me and I was like I actually felt for that like he was like don't make
40:01me do that again I was like no I the thing is like stripling I do think stripling will get a chance
40:07this year because Mike Evans just you know just can't stay healthy so there's going to be a shot there and and
40:13this Rams Matt yeah I don't want to spoil even the end of the show and everything so maybe I'll move off
40:19this but I do think he'll have a chance and that but again it's even his who I lean the most towards
40:25it's still just a murky thing and Shanahan's a guy that usually likes vets um you know that's why he's traded for
40:31so many guys that's why he likes science splash that's why he brought in Mike Evans so stripling seems like a sharp
40:37football player but that's another thing that's just another element like it's just some of these coaches are really slow with their
40:43young guys I don't think that's the opportunity that's going to happen here but just another thing maybe possibly weighing against them
40:49so uh but god yeah I know I all these rookies I wanted to get excited about and have some stashes and
40:54it's like like the one I'm most excited about it's like Seth McGowan the backup Colts running back you know like because
41:00it's just that because the opportunity of a stash and all that stuff but again it's just circumstances where you where you
41:06get them in the draft all that type of stuff because like Mike Washington Jr.
41:10who had a great preseason Kubiak keeps hyping him up um Ashley takes a lot of hits as well might be more
41:16of a split than we first maybe got indicated that's another thing too it's that maybe you know maybe we'll see that
41:22that might be just all talk that might just be Gentium might is maybe is the 80 20 guy and he's just
41:28a split back or a spell back I should say uh so again it's just hard to kind of buy into these
41:34guys early in the season just early then we'll have a little bit more reps on this stuff or a little bit
41:40more opportunity for having data games yada yada yada yeah and while we're talking Raiders it does sound it does sound like
41:46uh Mike Washington will probably I mean he's definitely going to be sharing the backfield with Ashton Gentian week one like sounds
41:52like Gentian's gonna play uh he was catching passes from Kirk Cousins today and you know I think that it's just again
41:58oh my god both of the Raiders like two the two players only two players at Raiders of Raiders that we were
42:04drafting they're both like some of the biggest injury questions now uh as we head into week one so yeah I don't
42:10think like Mike Washington's anything more than just a bench stash right now like you like you said I mean Clint Kubiak
42:16has mentioned that he wants a split backfield a split backfield to Clint Kubiak might be an 80 20 split uh where
42:21Ashton Gentie's the 80 and Mike Washington's the 20 which you know I do expect Mike Washington to eat into Gentie's workload
42:27into some degree 20 would be eating into the workload but it would not make him like a fantasy viable play but
42:33while we're talking uh Gentie and banged up running backs let's go all the way back to the top of this class
42:39and this class and hit the big fish here Jeremiah Love versus the Chargers in week one I will say like they're
42:45certainly in terms of the Cardinals they've been much more coy about Jeremiah Love's status heading into week one where the Raiders
42:51have felt a little bit more optimistic about Ashton Gentie including the fact that Jeremiah Love was the RB2 on the uh
42:57unofficial depth chart which I can't believe we're still doing unofficial depth chart clickbait stuff here in the month of September come
43:03on but I think I'm guessing Jeremiah Love will play in the first game of the season but will I have him
43:09ranked you know in the range of where he was drafted probably not like even he might be somebody that you need
43:15to wait a week on just because I think it's going to be a pretty tough matchup in Los Angeles where the
43:21the Chargers are heavy home favorites it's not going to be like a run first script uh which yeah maybe Jeremiah Jeremiah
43:27Love's catching a bunch of dump off passes from Jacoby Verset in the second half that's certainly possible uh but you know
43:33it's not the kind of stuff you're trying to count on in fantasy football so I might not have Jeremiah Love ranked
43:38inside the top 20 among the backs this week uh so I mean if you if you have him you drafted him
43:44you might have to start him but he might even be somebody like the biggest fish in this class the guy that
43:50we were excited the most about from a skill position player standpoint you even might have to kind of wait a week
43:56or a couple of weeks on him for him to get fully healthy because they have a guy in Tyler Algier who's
44:02you know damn good back in his own right yes actually like this whole conversation makes me warm up to Algier being
44:08kind of like very viable for a couple weeks at the very least uh so he got hurt Jeremiah Love as well
44:14August 13th and it was a high ankle sprain again a high ankle sprain really is a six-week injury like if in
44:20that and they're seem like they're playing it slow with him that's why he's probably RB2 yada yada yada whatever you want
44:26to say I can tell Michael LaFour is already a fantasy boogeyman um but I think oh yeah there's there's reasons for
44:32this but I do think that with a six-week injury so all right we're four weeks we're about what four and change
44:38now I really wouldn't feel good about love until week three so almost the same thing we're talking about with Bowers but
44:44this means if you have Algier smash like I really think that you could get a little sneaky one right here where
44:50it's like okay oh this is my dad I'm not sure if I want to play him because I'm not sure how
44:56much I'll eat it I think they'll lean on Algier early I think they're trying to be smart this is they picked
45:01them number three and this is the modern NFL this isn't 1994 when the old coaches would just go whatever took you
45:07number three we're running you 42 times man like they're gonna try and be smart with their kind of prize pick at
45:13the very least they love them Algier also is great in short yardage he's great in pass protection um doesn't fumble he's
45:19at that steady Eddie so I do think Algier is gonna be viable this week but love for a couple weeks I'm
45:25cool on but I'm I'm bullish on throughout the season but I am cool on them at the beginning of September just
45:31because high ankles are six weeks and I'm never ever not going to treat it as a six-week injury yeah and the
45:37first two games for the Arizona Cardinals like I mentioned this one in Los Angeles against the Chargers week twos against the
45:43Seahawks so I don't even know if I'm all like I'm all that gassed up to do the sneaky start with Tyler
45:49Algier in that uh in that situation but week three Niners okay we'll see how that defense looks this year it definitely
45:55was a problem last season uh Alfred Collins already dealing with an injury now as well because that's just the way it
46:01is with the San Francisco 49ers Giants in week four Australian Lions your patella tendon then you just have to unbelievable and
46:07then you just have to watch the game and then they can fly all the way back oh that's I don't know
46:13did the substation check on the plane too is it flying first class what's the deal I have no idea where the
46:18study's at yeah the study's at if there's any like soft portion of the Cardinal schedule which it is a grind week
46:24three Niners week four Giants week five Lions uh so I don't like someone who drafts Jeremiah Love has to be a
46:30little patient with them so it's probably stupid to be like oh well you want to buy him after these first two
46:36slow weeks I don't think you could actually do that but I guarantee you that will be like kind of the discourse
46:42in the fantasy streets like oh these are some good matchups coming up he the end of the six week timeline is
46:48in this range so that might be where we see the best of him I know no one wants to hear this
46:54but it's more like Jeremiah Love is feels like he's more of that rookie timeline not because of him but because of
47:00circumstances with the Cardinals and now his current injury that I really do feel like it's a post-buy or if you look
47:06at their schedule yeah I think we're bringing up the schedule um is yeah post week 11 exactly I would even say
47:12for Chiefs onwards week 11 onwards and then he becomes super viable you know they go okay Chiefs they got commanders Eagles
47:18run defense you can get some nice steady Eddie stuff just because the defense they play it's going to be a really
47:24good defense don't get me wrong but then you got the Jets and then I think in uh championship weekend you got
47:30the Saints and then you got the Raiders so it's like at the very end of the season so I think Halloween
47:36onwards more or less yeah because they have the Cowboys on November 1st okay then he becomes a little bit more viable
47:41and then really has November and December pick up so he might be a playoff star you know he and he might
47:47be just one of those that gets you to puts you over the top but yeah you're gonna have to be patient
47:53with them there's gonna be some 50 yard games in this just because game script just because of where the Cardinals are
47:59at right this year even though you and I are actually fairly bullish on what the Cardinals could be this year believe
48:05it or not oh yeah you dragged me back into the depths of hell of Cardinals bullishness over three and a half
48:11wins baby yeah we're super bullish baby Cardinals curious Nate we're not bullish we're we're curious we're Cardinals curious remember that that's
48:17the tag for this year we'll talk about yeah we'll talk about maybe bullishness in future years uh really not bullish on
48:23the prospects of Carnell Tate uh here in week one he's somebody that uh probably rank outside the top 30 receivers I
48:29almost guarantee going into this week even though you know it's not the worst matchup in the world against the New York
48:35Jets uh that defense obviously was one of the more generous ones last year we'll see what it looks like this year
48:41under Aaron Glenn and the boys there but yeah I mean Cardinal Tate it was as rough as it possibly could be
48:47in the preseason I don't care about the production part of it I care more about just like what the Titans offense
48:53looked like overall so we covered this a lot on the show in August Nate but you know kind of just what
48:58are your expectations for Carnell Tate early on this year I feel a little slow burn but I would say if there's
49:04optimism with it is that they were trying to find like they ran and this is talking about some eyes of my
49:10mouth this is like the good and bad of it is uh Dable was really trying to run some RPOs and those
49:16RPOs were advantage reads to Carnell Tate so it's oh okay I don't like the RPOs but if you're interested in Tate
49:22it's really good they were trying to highlight them and they're trying to sometimes they force feed it some like whatever they're
49:28very close Ward and Tate are connecting on these but I do think that's going to be a little bit of an
49:34uptick as the season goes along I'm a little slow on him as the season starts and just from what I've heard
49:40and what I've gathered with reports is Wendell Robinson was kind of the guy or the guy getting a lot of targets
49:46um you know I know how you and I feel about it uh but I do I don't feel I feel better
49:52about Tate again in Dynasty that's kind of maybe the theme of the show than maybe this season because just the Titans
49:58offense I I can only get so high with Dable as a coordinator and they're just an offseason away from really kind
50:04of boosting up everything we'll say their offensive line did look improved um this preseason I really like what the coach did
50:10he was the guy that was with the Giants the last couple years I gotta start giving more shout outs he does
50:16a good job so that makes me feel the floor might be a little bit the floor is not gonna just be
50:21gone like there's actually be some floor of semblance of competence with this offense I just don't think it would be very
50:27explosive all the time and very matchup dependent especially with Tate that's a really good point about the RPOs uh for Carnell
50:33Tate because we typically see that if an offense uses a lot of RPOs like the first read player is going to
50:39just get a target share boost I was coming back to that 2023 season with Michael Pittman and like Gardner Minch who
50:45was the quarterback they're running a bunch of oh my god and he was just getting pummeled all those glance routes just
50:51eight yards ten yards again rocked over the middle of the field they lived off and if there was if there was
50:57like one encouraging note about uh about Carnell Tate from the preseason you kind of mentioned this is that they were just
51:03kind of using Calvin Ridley sometimes like Io manner as the x receiver which did allow them to at least move Carnell
51:09Tate a little bit before the snap as the z so like the worst thing in the world would be of like
51:15he was like kind of the the x receiver this offense like he's just never going to get a bunch of those
51:21first read targets but it doesn't look like he is so that is good news uh the the downside for Carnell Tate
51:27is it okay let's say hypothetically which I think this is possible we come out of week one it's like oh he's
51:33got these all these RPOs first read targets the whole deal okay feeling pretty good about that Eagles week two Giants week
51:38three okay uh Ravens Texans in the first five weeks of the season so there's definitely some tough defenses that the Titans
51:44are going to have to face there so probably some patience needed for a guy like Carnell Tate but um yeah and
51:50I definitely think that's true for the next receiver to Makai Lemon even though it's a good matchup theoretically versus the Commanders
51:56I mean Wicks is going to run more routes than Makai Lemon in the first week of the season I think actually
52:02Wicks if you're super you're playing a super deep league like you could probably start him uh in week one good matchup
52:08you guys know I still have the candle lit for Dontavian Wicks uh if you can just put it all together we'll
52:14see but like well he's going to run more routes than him in week one it's just a matter of week two
52:20week three week four like how long does that last before Makai Lemon eats into the snap share there uh we'll see
52:26but it definitely won't be the first week of the year yeah I mean the Eagles are one of my going to
52:32be one of my favorite subplots this entire season just watching their offense just in general um so Lemon uh was battling
52:38the hamstrings injuries which is never what you want you know soft tissue especially for a guy that is a little slightly
52:44undersized um and you realize so much on this kind of smoothness as a route runner uh so that's just something to
52:50keep an eye on it could be I think he I think Lemon fantasy wise will be a little bit frustrating this
52:56year because I mentioned I actually like Wicks like you said that's kind of like a late dart throw for it and
53:01just where Hertz likes to target the ball like he loves targeting to the outside he prefers those guys Lemon has some
53:07juice on the outside but you kind of want him working on ISO guys up on the inside and everything but I'm
53:13so wait and see on the Eagles offense this year like I want to see what the whole line looks like I
53:19want to see if the run game's back above board um because that's really what dropped off everything and if it's just
53:25frustrating where they're going to be just be slot guys get dinged the most if you're not you're going to be a
53:31pass or a run first offense yeah because that means you're gonna be in heavier personnel and you're just usually just how
53:37the operation goes with the play action concepts off of those it's usually more to the outside so that's why Lemon to
53:43me this year is so wait and see I have like no stock on him uh just because I just didn't like
53:49the circumstances for this year I just gotta see it and just see what how they're going to try and use him
53:55there's opportunities there I think it's gonna be a little bit more chunk play for him than high target share you know
54:01I don't think he's gonna finish games with 9 10 11 targets eat like slot monster like you know like a Josh
54:07Downs I think it's gonna be more if on good games for him more Christian Kirky more vertically you know corner routes
54:13stuff over routes working him off you know from the slot or in motion or something like that but I'm very kind
54:18of cool early in the season on Lemon till they kind of the Eagles get up and running yeah I mean you
54:24could compare it like if we're doing Packers receivers you could like Jaden Reed how they've used him as a vertical option
54:30at times and even Dontavian Wicks on some of those like sale concepts where he'd motion into the slot and run these
54:36outbreakers off play action which is why I think Makai Lemon I think he's a better fit with hurts than kind of
54:42the common you know analysis would because like he's not going to be doing a bunch of damage over the middle of
54:48the he was great on these out cuts in college yeah uh no we we kind of had this theory a few
54:54months ago where we're like no no no hey there's ways this works and this is me who's you know has things
55:00hurts has limitations there's ways this could really work it's just you know it's just one path as opposed to there's like
55:0620 paths wrong oh yeah this will work this way this way this way this way it's just like there's certain ways
55:12that has to be organized kind of a little bit narrow narrower band but there are ways it can work really well
55:18definitely yeah and I think the only problem there is that there's already a proof of concept with a guy like Wicks
55:24who's on the roster did this stuff for them uh in Green Bay last year now Sean Mannion's here they gave him
55:30the one extension so I do think Wicks has to like fail for Lemon to get that fantasy role of course anybody
55:36that knows the Duntavion Wick's story knows that he has failed before so it is definitely uh possible that by October we're
55:41seeing a very different tune but it's a little bit wait and see for uh Lemon it's a little bit wait and
55:47see for all these rookies as we mentioned like we don't need to do a deep dive on the Browns receivers because
55:53every like you mentioned already everyone knows the deal with that you're probably not trying to start these guys in week two
55:59but long story short here for all of these kind of early drafted rookies and the guys we've talked about over the
56:05summer like yes we are hyped about these players I'm excited about these guys but like let's put a pin in it
56:11for now and then we'll revisit this in two weeks so Nate and I can kind of talk through like what we're
56:17seeing from a usage standpoint and hopefully by then we'll get some more like actionable notes on what we can do with
56:23these guys for the rest of the season hey maybe a couple these guys will surprise us with some big performances the
56:29first two weeks of the season but for now I'm kind of like let's be patient with the rookies and remember that
56:35yes we're excited about these guys we hyped them up in August but a lot of times we're hyping up rookies for
56:41the stretch run not the first two weeks of the season so we'll all be very patient with this whole thing as
56:47we go but for now we're going to take our first quick break we come back we're talking second year players or
56:53just a little bit more to be excited about because they've spent a year in the NFL we'll get into that right
56:58after this all right we're back let's ratchet this thing up and talk about some second year players who were actually excited
57:04to watch here and we can actually get excited to start in fantasy football in week number one we're just going to
57:10go position by position here we're not going to hit every single name I'm going to throw them out and maybe Nate
57:16can tell me one that he's actually really excited to highlight for week one so let's start of course with the wide
57:22receivers we got Tedrow McMillan against the Chicago Bears we got Emeka Ibuka against Cincinnati Bengals Matthew Golden versus Minnesota Vikings Luther
57:28Burden versus the Panthers with Roman Dunze nursing a little bit of an injury coming out of camp because of course and
57:34uh I think Colin must be trolled you get called just oh my god unbelievable um I could tell you how I
57:40was like I I bet I just you know misery loves company on it but because I was just you gotta be
57:46f***ing kidding me sorry but I saw I saw the injury come up and I was like Roman and it was like
57:52and no one David announced it I'm sorry for swearing uh but I was so annoyed because it was like again talk
57:58about weight injuries it's like you gotta be kidding me guys sorry Nate I had a name we're live Nate number one
58:04we're live two uh I'll take the heat off you here and admit I had a I had a dream last night
58:10that he was put on IR like that's how that's how upset I am about this in our head I know man
58:16so I know thank you for not texting me oh my god what is happening here uh and anyway so okay those
58:21four names let's just talk about those guys I think Colin's trolling me by putting Jalen Noel versus the Bills here I
58:27don't think we're playing Jalen Nolan week one fantasy football but I'm at least gonna keep my eye on some Jalen Nolan
58:33and what kind of participation we got here uh with the Buffalo Bills in week number one but Tedrow McMillan Emeka Ibuka
58:39Matthew Golden Luther Burden uh who do you got your eye on the most here coming into week one oh probably the
58:45guy I like the most anyways but I love this matchup anyways Tedrow McMillan um and I I know the Bears corners
58:51are probably the strength of their defense but that's also I think this defense is going to be extremely boom bust um
58:57so I do think that Bryce Young will get into some situations third and shorts or I should say stay out of
59:03bad situations I don't think there'll be too many third and longs for him which is usually his bugaboo so I do
59:09think that they can stay above ahead of the sticks which means that I think McMillan will be able to get those
59:15some nice juicy targets also Dennis Allen uh could be a little bit blitz happy and against blitz happy defenses Bryce Young
59:21will kind of just chuck go walls so there'll be you know it might be one of those games where there's like
59:27what do they call them unrealized air yards uh for the quarterback or for the receiver but I do think if just
59:33one of three or one of four hit like boom then McMillan could just take uh take those chances and be the
59:38primary target getter having said that well maybe you can actually continue this is you know Coker is the power slot and
59:44Bears defense is really bad against the slot especially with Kyle Gordon's not in there but we've noted T-Mac has been moved
59:50into the slot a little bit so that more opportunities I think for him to catch some outbreakers and everything or even
59:56just in breakers as well um out working out of the slot as well so yeah he's a full all red systems
60:02go I think everybody is against the Bears defense even with corners that are actually pretty good as long as they're healthy
60:08but just the rest of defense is so leaky that there's gonna be opportunities there and a blitz happy defense gonna be
60:14some boom bust going on against that defense yeah this game opened up with a 45 and a half point total it's
60:20been bet up to 47 and a half and that doesn't surprise me because I think this game actually could be a
60:26pretty sneaky shootout between these two teams offenses that I think can can hunt for explosives um you got the defenses here
60:32where there's a bit of a some questions on both side of the ball although the Panthers made some improvements and um
60:38I actually saw a pretty good stat and I wish I could credit now where I saw it but like Caleb Williams
60:44against disguised coverages and of course it's like how you chart this whole thing that like his passer rating kind of goes
60:50down which I think you would expect obviously first year in the Ben Johnson offense the whole deal like and as your
60:56ever I guess runs a lot of these disguise coverages and tries to mix things up on the back end which we
61:01know they just haven't really been able to pull it off consistently in terms of actual good defensive output because they haven't
61:07really had the talent they certainly have the talent this year I think maybe that could hold things back and obviously like
61:13a Bryce Young offense can always hold things back but I generally think this could be a high scoring game so um
61:19especially it's going to be really concentrated between McMillan and Coker I think Coker's actually a decent like what the heck flex
61:25type in week one because as you mentioned they're going to get both these guys reps from the slot that's what's been
61:31made clear in training camp in preseason we've seen it come to a reality so I do think Tedrow McMillan is somebody
61:37that you know I'm going to have ranked as a clear cut wide receiver to start in fantasy this week inside my
61:43top 20 for sure definitely I'm really interested to just see what this offense looks like in week one yeah with Brad
61:49Izzik at the controls now instead of Dave Canales yeah and just what their next steps are like you know and maybe
61:55just how they're going to mitigate some of the old line stuff that might be another reason so there might be a
62:01little bit more screens so again quick hitters gets more targets he gets more receptions especially gets all those blitzes from Dennis
62:07Allen so yeah I I'm with you I think I think this has a sneaky chance to be a barn burner I
62:13think that I think this might go back and forth and I think it's going to be a lot of big place
62:18like I don't think it's going to be I think some awkward stifled drives from both sides sack on third down frustrating
62:24and then next drive is two play drive 72 yards touchdown but like just two big plays with a bunch of missed
62:30tackles on both sides of the ball because both defenses like you mentioned I'm glad you robbed that with the Panthers side
62:36because I actually was looking at the Luther Burden one as well um because same kind of conversation it really is that
62:42the Panthers defense I trust their corners probably the most so any of the opportunities over the middle especially he gets maybe
62:48so with simulated looks yeah so same kind of line of thinking there we'll get to that when we get to the
62:54tight end of the second year title section oh baby yeah yeah yeah yeah one particular player can certainly benefit from that
63:00especially if Roman Dunes is out or limited uh just real quick I just want to just note on Matthew Golden it
63:06just really interested to see what his route share looks like in week one I expect him to be a full-time player
63:12for this team uh would probably have him ranked him and Jaden Reed in a similar zone of like these are flex
63:18viable guys and I do think with Golden you know he was a better zone beater than a man beater to me
63:24as a prospect and we know that this Brian Flores defense plays a ton of zone on the back end and I
63:30really like Matthew Golden just when he could kind of you you've used this phrase unfurl his routes downfield and like just
63:36plant his foot and pop open on these bigger like posts and digs and kind of over routes which I expect the
63:41Packers to run a good bit of those so again maybe more of a what the heck flex like desperation type but
63:47I do think he's going to be uh in that wide with the wide receiver three mix for me uh in week
63:53number one but let's get into the running backs here Nate uh I have a chemical can I use my gold note
63:59for you yeah I'm so sorry and I'm spoiling our our football 301 show tomorrow because we're previewing this game but I
64:05have some notes on this and you kind of plopped out my brain right here because I do think Jordan Love against
64:11the Vikings defense against Brian Flores is very boom bust he chucks it in which is how you should go against that
64:17defense you want to chuck it he's second in average area to sticks against Brian Flores among all quarterbacks only Jameis is
64:23higher so even my note that I was going to talk to you about tomorrow was I this is what I wrote
64:29I said I could see Goldner Watson getting a lot of chances to make place not sure which one but one of
64:35them is going to get some there's going to be some chances there so and that's what you want to do against
64:41this fighting Steven so I'm glad we got to talk about Goldner a little bit there yeah we can unpack more of
64:47that tomorrow I'll try I'll try to figure out by then who I think is more likely to get those big play
64:53chances uh should be pretty interesting to kind of talk through that tomorrow on football 301 which of course you guys should
64:58be subscribed to Yahoo Sports YouTube channel if you're watching this or wherever you listen to podcasts as well okay running backs
65:04here second year guys Ashton Genti versus the Dolphins Amarion Hampton versus the Cardinals Quinchon Judkins versus the Jaguars Cam Scadaboo versus
65:10the Cowboys RJ Harvey versus the Chiefs and I'll throw in Basial Tootin against the Browns as well anyone there one back
65:16that you want to highlight from this group oh Hampton versus the Cardinals uh that they just I'm high on them this
65:22year but that's just a good matchup again the it's going to be that game's going to like by design Mike McDaniel's
65:28run game is boom bust if you look at their explosive play rates and stuff rates it's hilarious they're high in both
65:34because that's just the design of the run plays going against a Cardinals defense where everything is boom bust so I think
65:40he has a chance to go but bonkers if like just the right hits go there and right you know right touches
65:46go the right way there might be some huge ripped off gains here there might be some frustrating TFLs just by design
65:52like that's just kind of how it goes but he has a chance to absolutely just go ballistic this week I really
65:58do think that especially week one Mike McDaniel is going to have some new kind of stuff so yeah I I think
66:04the Cardinals defense is going to be pretty dang good actually rushing the passer but I don't know how many game scripts
66:10they're going to get into that we mentioned Walter Nolan they have Josh Sweat still they got some juice up front actually
66:16um but it's more stopping the run it's so all over the place by design and I think that the Chargers are
66:21going to have some opportunities to like get some big plays so yeah I'm all systems gone Hampton this week uh I
66:27read this stat off yesterday on the data dump with Ray from week eight on last season the Cardinals allowed the seventh
66:33highest explosive play rate and fifth highest missed tackles force per reception uh against them so yeah big plays and yards after
66:39catch allowed that sounds like a Mike McDaniel offense I think we'll see a big performance from all these Chargers guys so
66:45yeah obviously if you drafted a Marnhampton in the second round of fantasy get locked and loaded for a good week one
66:51again heavy home favorites uh that's where you want to start that featured running back and ratchet up the expectations I will
66:57say like the Scadaboo Tootin group I'm really just curious what those guys workload looks like uh because we found out that
67:03you know facial Tootin's I guess like the lead kick returner down in Jacksonville while Parker Washington is the lead punt returner
67:09which I'm sure fantasy twitter just absolutely loves that they love those notes um but no love being like little McVay you
67:15remember he's like Karen Williams is our kick return and everything he loves just doing like a little McVay touches it's so
67:21funny he's got to be loving like the fact that we don't know what the distribution looks like in either of his
67:27rooms I'm sure Liam is very excited about that uh but yeah I honestly have no idea like what to expect from
67:33Scadaboo or Tootin from the the role perspective with with Scadaboo obviously last time we saw him which was a bajillion years
67:39ago at this point he was the feature back for a completely different coaching staff for the New York Giants and man
67:44I mean let's hope he can hold on to that passing game role because Nate you and I are optimistic about the
67:50Cowboys in general this season as we found out today when unleashing our staff predictions uh my Super Bowl pick for the
67:562026 NFL season Dallas Cowboys what could possibly go wrong uh just about everything yours was Cowboys over Texans right mine was
68:02Texans over Cowboys no no yours was Cowboys over who it was uh Texans Cowboys over yeah and mine was Texans over
68:08Cowboys wow god we've been talking to each other too much we really have I was disgusted because we did that separately
68:14so people know we did that no idea like we just it's so terrible I think you had DAC MVP too I
68:20had DAC MVP I was like this is oh god I can't it's gonna blow up in my face so bad this
68:26is the 2023 Falcons all over again well it's not gonna blow up in week one though this is the thing I
68:32think the I think the Cowboys smoke the Giants in week one uh and because of that you better hope that Cam
68:38Scadaboo has that pass catching scammy role that he had last year because he's gonna need the little dump offs I think
68:44in week one because I do think the Cowboys are gonna come in here and smoke the Giants in week one and
68:50I do like the Giants run game potential it's just that you know I I am not been on Scadaboo long term
68:56just I mean how his running style is everything like and there's he might just go nuts and he is the guy
69:01and they give him a whole bunch of touches but it just seems like Harbaugh is just like playing games with them
69:07you know I don't really like that uh you know it's just kind of like mind games with what he's saying and
69:13everything but I I am bullish on that that Giants run game I really am I like the old line I like
69:19the auxiliary blockers I know Greg Roman could cook up a run game and from what I've heard is that they're leaning
69:25into a lot of multi-tight end looks just I mean look at the receiver room but they're really how about Darius Slayton
69:31finally released your watches yeah the NFL's most on on again off again relationship the most it's complicated on Facebook relationship uh
69:37the New York Giants and Darius Slayton they finally I won't I won't say it's over until it's over I made this
69:43joke with James Coe today that it's like when one of your friends tells you their significant other they stink I'm gonna
69:49break up with them and you're like yeah you know what I've always hated them okay and then two weeks later like
69:55well actually we worked it out I'm like well I wish I had told you what yeah we've all been same thing
70:01just happened we roasted the X and then they got back together a month later that happened with one of my one
70:07of my roommates actually I used to live with okay cool well this won't be awkward uh because I really let it
70:13rip but anyways uh camps game scataboo with the uh New York Giants yeah no Darius Slayton okay but I won't say
70:19it's over until it's over like until Darius Slayton's on another roster they could maybe find their way back to each other
70:24that is typically how these things work but my big takeaway from them releasing Darius Slayton was like oh Malachi Fields come
70:30on down like you mentioned the auxiliary blockers you already saw this in the preseason I did a video uh on this
70:36where you could just see the amount of times like he was being used as the insert blocker in preseason that guy
70:42is going to be the insert blocker a ton I am imagining a lot of 12 personnel for this team that they'll
70:48get it they're going to get a full back in the mix there they got Pat Ricard where it's like Malik neighbors
70:54is way over there in isolation uh he's just completely away from the core completely away from the formation there's gonna be
71:00two tight ends and like Malachi Fields inserting in the run game I think they could blow up blow open some holes
71:06I'm just not 100 sure that like camp scataboo is the feature back here yeah and that's what's hard is like and
71:12people are like oh you like the run game and I have like no giant stock it's like yeah I see what
71:18they're doing and I like it and I think in a real football sense I'm gonna really dig it some weeks like
71:24I think they're gonna yeah that's the thing with the Giants I could only get so high because I only can get
71:30so high with dart but I really do see a lot like this is gonna be a good run game but I
71:36just can't trust scataboo for long term and I don't think they do either but even the the Tyrone Tracy I know
71:41everyone remembers him giving up the sack with dart in the preseason before in that game he also had two pick blitz
71:47pickups that he picked up he is the protection guy so that's the guy they trust not scataboo so again it's gonna
71:53be early down he's gonna get some touches and everything but I think it's gonna be more of a balance split and
71:59just more the totality of the run game as opposed to one individual guy yeah and like Devin Singletary trusty guy at
72:05times uh you know Najee Harris the social media accounts talking about new number change for Najee Harris yeah he's in the
72:11mix here too so it just seems messy so for week one I probably won't have scataboo as a top 20 back
72:17especially because like I said I think they're gonna get smoked they won't be in a lot of these run heavy game
72:23scripts so uh his pass catching role will be a thing I really have my eye on as we're coming out of
72:29week one uh and if he's out there and his like snap his snap percentage is really high he's out there on
72:35the passing nuts I'll feel better about him going forward but definitely could be somebody that uh I I could see us
72:41talking about on the week one panic meter uh with Justin Boone that is for sure okay uh let's get to tight
72:47ends here we already kind of teased this Colson Loveland versus the Panthers Tyler Warren versus uh the Baltimore Ravens and Harold
72:53Fannin versus the Jacksonville Jaguars and like you said Nate I mean Colson Loveland how is he not just gonna go absolutely
72:59crazy in week one I know just what I said with everything with you know Marion Hampton is if you're already bought
73:04into Loveland like you're not gonna stop after week one I don't think you're gonna be all about this uh I think
73:10this is a perfect defense for a tight end that can attack vertically like Loveland like we mentioned with Everett even those
73:16so that's the thing so Everett likes a lot of like simulated and creepers which are like blitzes but they only rush
73:22four but when you run those you give up leverage somewhere usually on the inside it's up to the quarterback to kind
73:28of find that you know but most teams don't have a tight end that can really punish it the Bears do and
73:34if Rowan Doonesday is a little more beat up there that's a lot of that's a lot of opportunity for Colson Loveland
73:40and I do think that the Panthers just how they run stuff and because again funky the funkier defense is the heavier
73:46you want to be heavier personnel looks Colson Loveland is sometimes used as a de facto receiver in those looks yeah I
73:52am I'm super high on him anyways this season but just even just this matchup I'm super super super high on it
73:58because there's gonna be not only just the steady Eddie touches because that's what he is in this offense there's gonna be
74:04those touchdown opportunities and big play opportunities to rack up the yards I'm really excited to talk with you about uh the
74:10Colts Ravens matchup we're doing that on 301 tomorrow so I'll kind of save some of my Tyler Warren questions but I
74:16think it's really fascinating to see what Jesse Minter's defense looks like in week one because I've been talking about it as
74:21if it's going to look a lot like with all those heavy zone coverages we're so good at like closing those middle
74:27of the field windows consistently right I mean that was a just a ton of what we saw with the Chargers under
74:33Jesse Minter but I mean you could argue I think it's maybe not even an argument that the personnel is better in
74:39Baltimore so that defense is going to be one of the most interesting ones to watch in week one and how this
74:45pass catching room distributes between uh Alec Pierce coming back Josh Downs Tyler Warren again we'll talk about that more on 301
74:51tomorrow but just any quick notes on that well I have one more note too on love when the Panthers gave up
74:57the second most EPA to tight ends last year so I know they improved their personnel but again just the scheme yeah
75:03he's gonna cook but no Warren I mean because the injury stuff with Warren I'm like come on because I'm invested in
75:09Warren a little bit this year as well because I just think me too so many opportunities dude I I really I
75:15inadvertently did it like that wasn't my plan in some leagues it just yeah and I was just like yeah I'll take
75:21him because there's gonna be opportunity no matter even if Daniel Jones gets hurt like or is not all the way there
75:27that's actually good for Warren if the backup quarterbacks both like they're on the tight end and on top of it that
75:33means Jones to get rid of the ball quickly and we that's I think that's downs and Warren so it's like and
75:39also they highlight them in design touches so you might get a cheapy rushing touchdown with him like he's gonna be to
75:44me until Pierce's you know I think he's getting there till Pierce is kind of that Warren's the focal point of this
75:50offense as much as I like downs like they're gonna use Warren a lot they used a lot of formations in the
75:56preseason that highlighted the tight end especially vertically so yeah I think Warren's like got a lot of opportunities here coming up
76:02like really quickly as long as just the health stuff's all good yeah any sort of like full PPR format I think
76:08he's gonna be highly highly targeted in the first week of the season and all throughout especially as Daniel Jones getting back
76:14to full health last one here this section on quarterbacks we kind of already touched on Jackson Dart against the Cowboys Cam
76:20Ward against the Jets and other conversations so I want to ask you about expectations for Tyler Shuck in week one because
76:26this is another game of Saints Lions obviously in two indoor teams Kellen Mortis announced today that like Cam Jordan's not going
76:32to play in week one this is one of the games that I could see being one of the highest scoring on
76:38the slate 49 and a half point total that is the third highest I believe you know second highest right now on
76:44the slate the first is the Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers which yeah that one there's gonna be a lot of points
76:50in that game I think there's gonna be a lot of points in the Saints and Lions as well yeah Shuck I
76:56feel good about I'm not I can't get so high it's just so the weakness of the Lions right now is kind
77:01of the defensive back spine so the safeties you know that's the weakness they run a lot of man coverage I've been
77:07so curious if Shepard changes that at all like I mean if they run man I'm like kind of really like a
77:13lave yeah I think yeah I think he didn't get cooking on that but you know Shuck the thing with him is
77:19he wasn't really pushing the ball a ton last year and again it was that it can't or won't kind of thing
77:25was that just the you know they didn't really have a lot of juice outside of the lave you know maybe the
77:31old line wasn't all the way there but having said all that I really like the old line and where it's a
77:37young kind of talented offensive line they've invested a lot in it I'd like if I think Shuck would just be like
77:43good actually I like her projections exactly how I see it where it's just kind of like a steady Eddie performance a
77:49good performance I just gotta see if he's willing to willing and able to kind of continue to push the ball push
77:55the ball push the ball especially with potentially you know isn't Bryce Lance starting shout out Bryce Lance you know so like
78:01so they picked up my boy Cedric Tillman uh on the practice that's where they're that's where they're at they're at on
78:07the receiver situation right now they love just the scrap heap receivers that I'm like oh I remember him yeah the Jalen
78:13Pokes of the world uh no but no I think Shuck is more just solid at least in this this matchup I
78:19will say the Lions defense I am squinting at um until they especially if they change don't change scheme from their man
78:24heavy stuff their front's gonna be good but the Saints have a pretty good old line and a scheme that kind of
78:30mitigates that curious a little bit this is one other thing that I haven't because I haven't talked about the Saints in
78:36a little bit um Shuck under pressure can kind of be like a little iffy under pressure a little bit safe under
78:42pressure and I'm not sure who their pass protection back is right now and I know that sounds niche but against this
78:48defense that matters so that might make stuff a little short so it might not those big play opportunities might not be
78:54there that I see in theory um on some even more passing downs so I think exactly what we're projecting right now
79:00238 yards two touchdowns that's a that's a nice safe kind of how I see it kind of medium performance I'm gonna
79:06actually disagree with you on this one and I'm okay go for it I'm gonna take I'm gonna take a big performance
79:12uh I just looked this up right now as we're talking week 10 on obviously this is where we really saw the
79:18most of Tyler Shuck was in the second half of the season against man coverage these are our top five quarterbacks in
79:24adjusted yards per attempt uh against man coverage from week 10 on Drake may number one number two Dak Prescott number three
79:30should or Sanders against all odds uh and then number four Tyler Shuck those are and then Trevor Lawrence is number five
79:36number six oh my god Matthew Stafford yeah nine and above is is yeah you know you're a big sugar guy I
79:41do remember that uh no Drake may Dak Prescott Shudor Sanders Tyler Shuck those are the only guys over 9.0 adjusted yards
79:47per attempt from week 10 on against man coverage so yeah and look I just think Olave is gonna go absolutely berserk
79:53in this game I could see him being the highest scoring fantasy receiver in week one so yeah I think we get
79:59a pretty good performance from Tyler Shuck so if you're playing it like super flex you're streaming quarterbacks I think this is
80:05a pretty good week uh to roll out some Tyler Shuck here I think this is gonna be I I just see
80:11this game being very high scoring obviously the betting lines do as well and I felt like we saw a lot from
80:17Shuck pushing it down the field specifically in those situations obviously limited looks it's only half the season but yeah 42 success
80:23rate uh on those plays as well that's good what uh what's the over under at for that 49 and a half
80:29it's yeah baby of the week yeah no that's right oh man I know we might have to talk about this game
80:35tomorrow no this this I might have to rope into Hail Mary on this one uh because I do this is gonna
80:41be a very fun game entertaining game two offenses that I think do fun stuff as well so I think it's gonna
80:47be a really well game plan game uh except for I just the Lions defense which has done well kind of some
80:53of the statistical senses uh I just without the horses there they need to change I think otherwise they're dead in the
80:59water like as soon as the season starts I think they're dead uh defensively so yeah I'm just curious what they what
81:04it looks like this year that's what I can't get out of my head exactly what you highlighted there is that I
81:10felt like early last season I was really enjoying a lot of what Kelvin Shepard was doing I was like all right
81:16he's you know man coverage playing really aggressive I I like the just felt like good vibes on that defense there and
81:22then it's like okay guys started getting hurt and it didn't really see any changes and then they're just getting fried and
81:28so I feel like that's what we're going to see a lot of here early on this season including this matchup against
81:34the Saints so uh we'll see but I'm pretty optimistic about I'm generally I think really optimistic about Tyler Shuck I liked
81:40a lot of what I saw last year you know I'm like really into the Saints offense in general and look it'd
81:46be nice if Jordan Tyson was here but Chris Alabi was going to be their man beating receiver as it is so
81:52I think Alabi has a massive week one again if you're doing bold predictions uh number one scoring receiver in fantasy uh
81:58Chris Alabi week one come on down let's see it all right we're going to take our next week break when we
82:04come back looking at some flex eligible players and who you can start and who you can sit we'll get into that
82:10right after this all right we're back and here is this week's flex fit check presented by verse a great fantasy flex
82:16player does it all just like verse guys wear build your lineup of versatile looks fit for whatever the week throws at
82:21you and yeah look shout out to verse I'm wearing my verse shirt right now and I feel incredible I'm gonna wear
82:27this bad boy all day all right the personal endorsement here I'm just wearing the white version of this shirt to the
82:33wineries on the weekend yeah this guy was wearing this and feeling good uh I got the two got the got the
82:39black and got the white black just very basic all the colors of the rainbow stay stay in your lane stay in
82:45your lane stay in your lane right and what just very basic look here and listen I'm feeling great I'm a big
82:51I'm a big uh blacks blues and grays guy so yeah right now me seeing myself in red I totally get it
82:57where you're like yeah we'll talk color palette uh after this one is over but yeah there's my personal endorsement uh for
83:03reversed here but let's talk some of these flex players as well each week we're going to look at four players on
83:09the flex line and tell you if they should start and sit based on their matchup let's start with Jonathan Brooks versus
83:15the Chicago Bears in week number one um I mean I'm gonna say this matchup aside probably not playing Jonathan Brooks in
83:21week one considering uh he is dealing with an injury I mean Nate this is basically if we just skipped all of
83:27August and the Chuba Hubbard hamstring the Jonathan Brooks kind of hype train it's like this is what we kind of expected
83:33you know a guy that's been dealing with a lot of injuries we don't know how much he's gonna play in week
83:39one we'll probably I think we'll see him I think he I you know he says he's 100 percent expects to play
83:44week one that's great I I hope that's the case but still we just don't know how if how many touches he's
83:50gonna get and Chuba Hubbard's back he's likely to be the Panthers running back one and that's how I have it ranked
83:56here in week one yep Hubbard's the running back one and the trust of the guy he's their coach favorite time and
84:02I know they're excited about Brooks that's why they draft him high they're trying to get him going but it's a groin
84:08it's another soft tissue so it's just one of those where it's like to me that's a one where they're like hey
84:14he's gonna be on a pitch count of some sort and probably not gonna get some of those passing down opportunities because
84:20Hubbard's the steady Eddie pass protecting guy um but man this matchup could be so good for them if they were healthy
84:26and I was feeling decent about it like the matchup is good it's just not yet for Brooks now I don't think
84:32he has that opportunity in the backfield yet what do you think of uh Chuba Hubbard the pass protector because if like
84:38we're expecting this game to be very highly scoring as we talked about earlier and that is the way I see it
84:44going here um I don't think Brooks you know the guy's barely played in the NFL he's not our pass protection guy
84:50and if it's gonna be a high scoring game he's he's just that it's a lot of back and forth I think
84:56the Bears offense can score you know Colson Loveland's gonna crush as we talked about earlier I think we could see the
85:01the Panthers offense have to throw a lot more and to me that definitely leads to higher snap share for Chuba not
85:07as much for Jonathan Brooks yeah I know and also on top of it is because the like as the I think
85:13the Bears run defense is gonna be a little leaky um until proven otherwise but the thing is it's not like I'm
85:19really all the way bought in on the Panthers O-line so it's not like because they've been banged up too and everything
85:25they're working I really like Monroe Freeling don't get me wrong but it's like I you know the whole totality of it
85:31I'm not loving um so it's just one of those things where it's like I don't know which one to weigh more
85:37you know the the Bears circumstances or the or the or the Panthers but no that's why I just think with if
85:43if Brooks came in it was all healthy preseason was going great then I'd really start hyping up right here but until
85:49proven otherwise he can't stay healthy and I know they think it's gonna be a long season they want to compete for
85:55the NFC South so again I think they're gonna guide him along maybe in a couple weeks we can get back to
86:01Brooks and it's like okay here we go this is his opportunity now can we spend 25 minutes on the Panthers backfield
86:07again um but I just think Hubbard it's Hubbard's in time yeah I know it was it's the best uh but to
86:13me it's this is a Hubbard two-thirds split a Hubbard you know that's how I see the the flow game flow it's
86:19a Dennis Allen defense again that means blitz happy the coaches are gonna go with the guy they trust and maybe Brooks
86:24hasn't shown that yet that wasn't really a strength to me with him and no matter how good Hubbard is at it
86:30which I think he's decent um his IDs are really good is that that's what the coaches are gonna prefer especially a
86:36new coach that's like I want my job to to look good on and week one before I get a little too
86:42fancy with a young guy you basically almost have to view Jonathan Brooks uh like a rookie as we were talking about
86:48earlier on in the show where you want to have this guy be you know like let's see how it goes yeah
86:54you might have ended up drafting him in the seventh round in the 70s or 80s in your fantasy football league and
87:00you kind of want I want to start this guy right away but that's like a flex eligible player and I would
87:06say for this week probably just give it a wait and see with Jonathan Brooks yeah he could definitely come out there
87:12hit the because he's explosive and he has looked pretty good uh at least in the offseason clips and everything like that
87:18you didn't see too too much of him in the preseason so he could hit one of these creases against what Nate
87:24is describing a leaky Bears defense and then you're just like all right I'm feeling pretty good for week two week three
87:30week four so on and so forth uh there okay let's get to the next one here wide receiver position Jordan Addison
87:36versus the Green Bay Packers I really don't have a good read on this game Nate and I obviously have no idea
87:41what to expect with the Kyler Murray uh you know Kevin O'Connell Vikings marriage I think you're more optimistic than I am
87:47on this Vikings team this year so what are we feeling about Jordan Addison in week one against the Packers secondary that
87:53I definitely expect to be leaky this season yeah especially on the outside like they've been they were quite bad against outside
87:59targets last year to you know to receivers I think they were dead last um they're 30th and that's including the Micah
88:05Parsons for snaps that's not a non Micah Parsons snap I I'm actually very bullish and again spoilers to our preview tomorrow
88:11on this is I'm pretty bullish on what the Vikings run game will be against this defense um I gotta see what
88:17Jonathan Gannon's gonna run again Jonathan Gannon is a Mike Zimmer guy which is quarter he's the defense quarter for the Packers
88:23now so it's a lot of quarters and then blitz happy on third down but then the last couple years he was
88:29with the Cardinals and Nick Rawls was just going nuts and just running everything I mentioned with the Cardinals being very boom
88:35bust so I'm trying to figure out what his chemistry is this year without Micah Parsons especially like are we gonna lean
88:41into being more aggressive because we need to generate some stuff I'm gonna bring this all up because even if it's a
88:47more Rawls to tilt or what he showed with the Eagles Gannon there's some cover six there and if there's cover six
88:53it's gonna skew to Justin Jefferson the cover two side I should say and that means the quarter side is gonna be
88:59very juicy for Jennings Hawkinson and Addison and so I'm actually pretty high on what Addison could maybe do this week also
89:04KOC likes doing red zone touches to him like there's a lot of designer plays to Addison that's why he gets those
89:10kind of juicy touchdowns because so much focus goes on Jefferson so if I don't have a lot like corners to trot
89:16out to hey we're gonna man up Jefferson we're gonna do this against Jefferson to me that means Gannon runs cloud that
89:22means more cover two and that means more opportunities for Addison so I actually as I wouldn't say it's a smash bass
89:28and I have my finger over the smash button that's kind of how I'm feeling about him this week I see this
89:34very very very similarly as you do from a schematic standpoint here and just from like a rankings zone I have Addison
89:40sandwiched between Wandale Robinson and Michael Pittman all for this kind of like in that you know you can definitely flex this
89:46guy range it's just obviously okay if you're looking at Wandale Robinson versus Jordan Addison two very different guys in terms of
89:52how they're gonna score their points and how they're gonna produce because Wandale if you're saying like oh I'm gonna flex him
89:58in this range you're hoping to get those scammy receptions not a lot of plays down the football field but probably more
90:04of that higher floor whereas Addison and Nate did a really good job of describing this you're thinking more of that like
90:10boom bust you know there's definitely a chance he comes out of this thing with two for 20 because him and Kyler
90:16Murray in their very first game together didn't connect on a couple of downfield shots but Addison is very much a downfield
90:21receiver Kyler Murray very much a downfield passer as you're as you're kind of outlining here we're gonna see a lot of
90:27those one-on-one opportunities or just again the softer zone looks on the other side and Addison I'm I'm like mixed on Addison
90:33as a player overall but I definitely think he can hit some of those plays uh throughout the course of the season
90:39and maybe here in week one yep and and there's the usual play that they like last in the red zone is
90:45just like you want the focus to be on Jefferson and then they run like a double move like a stop and
90:51go to Addison he's got a real knack for those for whatever reason even though he's not like a total burner you're
90:57right he's like a downfield guy but he's not a burner and he's not big he's just such a weird player um
91:03but I I agree that Kyler those are the balls that he throws the ball like Addison's best routes to me and
91:09you might have different opinions on this or outbreakers and vertical and that's what Kyler throws really well and so I to
91:15me like out routes to Addison I could see those being very live again when you see cover six one of those
91:21sides can be quarters that means it's gonna be a corner off and it's not like these Packers corners are a bunch
91:27of all pros so yeah I I like the middle the spine of the Packers as far as the back end like
91:33I like their safeties I like their slot but the outside is a lot of opportunities there yeah I'm just I'm pasting
91:39his uh RP route chart in our doc right now Nate and yeah definitely outbreakers and verticals and nines outbreakers corners comebacks
91:44yes and that's exactly what Kyler loves to throw every now and again a deep post which yeah I mean listen his
91:50some of his weakest routes are the slant the curl the dig well don't worry Kyler Murray's not gonna be throwing a
91:56lot of those there you go I never gonna throw those so yeah definitely in that boom bust range I saw we
92:02had a YouTube comment asking me to talk about Jalen Coker I'm probably gonna have Coker ranked a little bit ahead of
92:08all these guys I feel really good about his target total and floor in week one but I do think Addison makes
92:14for you know you know what you're getting into a little bit of a boomer bust flex play here I don't think
92:20boomer bust is the case for our next guy here Stefan Diggs against the Philadelphia Eagles here's the thing Nate I think
92:26that I think this could be a rough go of it for the David Blau new commanders offense in week one Terry
92:32McLaurin I feel a little nervous about Terry here in week one a lot of a lot of Quinion Mitchell on the
92:38table here but I will say like digs if somebody's gonna survive this matchup it's probably going to be the quick separator
92:44who's running a lot of the high percentage routes which I mean you would think that's gonna be Stefan Diggs here in
92:50week one but does our I think what it sounds like you share the same pessimism here about the commanders offense in
92:56week one should that just kind of be maybe knocking digs down the rankings here we so we do Hail Marys on
93:01football three on and now we're asking fans to throw in their Hail Marys and Hail Marys is like a one in
93:07a million it's just like it's a bowl take whatever it's fun I think I think I hit two last year I
93:13have 18 weeks and Charles hit like three um you know it's just for fun but one somebody just posted right before
93:19we came on I threw this in our doc was they said oh the Eagles are gonna pitch a shutout against the
93:25commanders offense and I'm like that's kind of the one I'm leaning towards for the fans because this is this is a
93:31terrible matchup I think for a first time off OC with offensive line they're kind of reconfiguring with no Larry Tunsell still
93:37question marks on how it's all gonna look they're gonna try and be understanding but I don't know also on top of
93:43it where I like digs and I think you have some agreement with this you said a lot of those quick easy
93:49buttons kind of for him especially on third down he kind of does some nice work from the slot those quick little
93:55outbreakers those fuel routes the best team against the slot last year because they had this guy named Cooper Dejean yep is
94:01the Eagles not even in the same territory as anybody else they allowed negative 24 EPA on slot targets last year no
94:07one else was negative the next most was positive 2.41 the Jaguars no one was even in the same territory as the
94:13Eagles because Cooper Dejean is so awesome and he limits yards after the catch so it's not he's such a good tackler
94:19so it's I'm not I'm pretty pessimistic on the commander starts of this season I think the Eagles defense is gonna swallow
94:24him up yeah I probably will have digs ranked below a lot of the dudes we just talked about whether it's Coker
94:30you know Quentin Johnson we talked about that Chargers matchup earlier Wandale I'll probably have digs ranked behind those guys here at
94:36least for this season like he's his role I want to wait and see what it looks like as well too because
94:42obviously he was a part-time player for this Patriots team last year I expect him to be somebody who plays a little
94:48bit more this year but that's again a little bit wait and see on that one okay last one here and this
94:54guy I'm gonna definitely have ranked I think ahead of both of the receivers I just talked about even if I was
95:00a little skeptical of his film last year because he was coming back from a serious injury that is Chris Godwin against
95:06the Cincinnati Bengals we talked about Nate the Lions and Saints game earlier in the show the only other one with a
95:12higher point total is this Bengals Bucks matchup and I think it deserves it this is a little bit of a all
95:18the kids in the pool everybody get in there get your players in from this matchup and I think Chris Godwin included
95:24here I know I'm I'm real high on Bucky Irving if I'm being honest again spoilers for our show tomorrow but I
95:30think this Bucks O-line is gonna mash some people this year so I'm yeah pretty bullish on even if I think the
95:36Bengals defense will be improved Godwin and Buka really they work in areas where they're gonna get opportunities like I just think
95:41and if you're working those linebackers are terrible not they're terrible to be seen and we'll see if they improve this year
95:47but they were very bad last year again if we run all those Godwin screens those affect the linebackers so if they're
95:53slow to trigger those are just cheapies that's a catch for six yards that's a catch for seven yards and who cares
95:59if Godwin is 80 of what he used to be he's gonna be an effective guy he's one of the most effective
96:05like get north guys with the ball in his hands just that drop step and get north he is so that's this
96:11type of game like I think there's gonna be plenty of chances for him I'm still like a Buka is a different
96:17story so I'm just figuring out which one I would prefer I don't know actually if which one you you prefer these
96:23two but I agree I think everybody in the pool kind of thing where I think they're all gonna get their chances
96:29Bucky is the guy I'm super high on for this week I definitely prefer a Buka over Godwin it sounds like he's
96:35yeah okay getting in some practices here a Buka coming off the injury but that's a note that like if Chris Godwin
96:41leads his team in targets in week one that wouldn't totally shock me plus like I mean I'm really excited about a
96:47Buka in this movement Z role it's been something I've been talking about all offseason Zach Robinson's offense I know we'll talk
96:53about it more tomorrow on 301 I have a lot of notes on that but you know just as it pertains to
96:59this matchup to DJ Turner is kind of that top outside corner for this team Godwin will definitely avoid him more than
97:04a guy like Mecca Buka will although I do think like Jalen McMillan maybe even some Ted Hurst like as the ex-receiver
97:10they're probably going to get sacrificed to the DJ Turner stuff a little bit more this game than some of the others
97:16but yeah those linebackers versus Chris Godwin it's a great point because even if I thought Godwin took us obviously again coming
97:22off a major injury right took a step back as a separator last year which you would expect he still was a
97:28bully with the ball in his hands which I think we'll see a lot of against those linebackers here in this one
97:34but yeah great discussion there on four flex players as we head into week number one we are going to take our
97:40next quick break we come back we're talking Rams Niners we'll get into that right after this all right we're back and
97:46my god are we ever back because we've got an NFC West show down here to preview on Thursday night football this
97:52show has been jam-packed I'm just gonna say that right now we've got we've got rookies we got Brock Bowers injury updates
97:58it was good we've got flex players here oh yeah baby yeah don't worry now we just got to preview a real
98:04life football game 49ers Rams Rams are three and a half point home favorites because it's in Australia 48 and a half
98:10point total on this one Nate I'm just gonna cede the floor to you big dog what what do you want to
98:16highlight here between these two teams that we've seen face a lot over the last few years because they play in the
98:21division and they're both very very good yeah both very very good and I I god I'm just excited for any of
98:27this like I'm just really excited just to watch any of this I will say before I get to some Rams bullishness
98:33is that Kyle Shannon will come out week one firing like he's gonna have some stuff he knows this Rams defense remember
98:39last year we had all those injuries I want to say it was a Thursday night game they had a whole bunch
98:45of injuries a whole bunch injuries and there's the Kendrick Bourne Mac Jones yeah your boy Kendrick Bourne oh my god in
98:51breaker after in breaker they had all then actually everyone started picking up with the what Shanahan did against that defense and
98:57started picking on it all those in breakers you saw the Panthers use it so I do think there's some opportunities for
99:03this 49ers offense like I that's where a lot of my props even went with this game I have Debo Samuel over
99:0950 receiving yards at plus 250 this was bad MGM that was just the one I went off of because it's just
99:15habit I'm sorry uh but with Debo is that I do think there's gonna be a lot of those kind of crossing
99:21opportunities there's a lot of kind of cheapy touches some screens as well if they want to get into a funky defense
99:27bringing slot pressures bringing anything like that bringing those simulateds that's Debo those Debo getting a lot of quick hitters I could
99:33see him getting some yak the linebackers are the weakness of the Rams they're not total stiffs but that's the weakness of
99:39the Rams Debo the guy is the guy that's easiest for me to pick as they will get those opportunities to take
99:44advantage of that so I do think that Debo is going to get his if the game script with that Rams offense
99:50I think will have a lot of advantages over the 49ers defense for now I'm still waiting to see on that 49ers
99:56defense a little bit more pass heavy from the 49ers so I could see that kind of just building up as the
100:02game goes along Debo is never going to be healthier and fresher than he is right now in week number one baby
100:08season week one this is not week six this is not week 11 this is week one and he looks and he
100:14was like the only healthy guy in camp apparently well you know other guy the strip club but yeah right and like
100:20by the way this this is uh kind of how it went for Debo last year he was he was a lot
100:26better in September than people remember last season as well and it's still like obviously he's almost like the the exaggerated fun
100:32house mirrors of the version he of the player he's always been where I can't really beat man coverage at all anymore
100:38he's never been that great of a man coverage beater but you know a lot of zone you're going to see over
100:44the middle of the field against those linebackers and the in breakers it's a great point I remember we I think we
100:50talked about this Nate where it's like the weakness of this Rams defense like Kendrick Bourne he had two games over 140
100:56yards against them uh like 6-1 205 some of these bigger receivers Debo's not quite that type like stripling is for sure
101:01Debo can run some of those routes as well so yeah it's I think it's gonna be tough for the Niners uh
101:07against this defense if it's just full-on go what right off the bat but at the same time I think those guys
101:13could you know be in pretty decent spots here yeah and again yeah it's they've struggled with size last year and again
101:19they upgraded with uh with Watson and McDuffie of course but again it's just how they play because there's a lot of
101:25um they like to cap everything with uh Chris Shule and that Rams defense so it just allows opportunities over the middle
101:31they yeah would how they would try to mitigate that was they were so well scouted they'd break on the ball so
101:37you would see Kobe uh Kobe Duran and uh I mean what Forbes really get a lot of those chances early in
101:43the season but then you saw the Lions torch him the Panthers torch him uh Seahawks a little bit torch him so
101:49again JMO was just crazy on some of those in breakers and he's not even of this same archetype of receiver no
101:55and so yeah that's I I just I can envision it like this one was the easiest to envision I do have
102:01Dazon stripling also at 50 or more receiving for the same same circumstance same reasoning um just because I think he's gonna
102:07originally fill more Jennings's role but I know that they're like hey we're gonna use them all it looks like they're using
102:13them all over the place but I think he just being the guy that's healthiest and I think they also Shanahan has
102:19that kind of thing where it's hey we want to prove you guys wrong and also I think Kittle just working back
102:24from the Achilles they might be in a lot of 11 personnel so that means opportunities for stripling as well and just
102:30as the I think he's gonna be a dirty work blocker to start again that Jennings role snaps can lead to yards
102:36if they you know give up if it's a bad game script for him pass pass pass pass pass pass and then
102:42that's another one Brock Purdy over 18 and a half rushing minus 115 because I just think there's gonna be some scramble
102:48opportunities for him you know a lot of the zone okay if they're gonna lock down they're gonna do this stuff I
102:54can see Purdy getting into scramble mode that was another thing that the Rams defense struggled with was extended place so I
103:00could see Shanahan getting in his ear like hey extend the plays if you don't see that read don't see that end
103:06breaker so over 18 and a half rushing and foreign hours of the line against the Rams defense it's just good could
103:12be some gnarliness a couple times and so Purdy might be I wouldn't say running for his life but you know running
103:18for not for enjoyment yeah right um by the way we're we are definitely so back if Nate Tice is touting a
103:24quarterback rushing yard over scrambles baby night football game there's so many chances with the QB rushes if you just find the
103:30matchups oh man that was like my best angles like anyone playing the defense was like QB scrambling QB scrambling it's just
103:36like because the all the eyes and everything another one too is just a couple touchdown ones I like both for the
103:41Rams uh Blake Corum anytime touchdown scorer because I do think they'll be able to move the ball and run the ball
103:47well on this defense and I do think they're really trying to get Corum going um they won't shut up about them
103:53and so I don't I still think it's Kyron Williams backfield but I think it's more 60 40 I think it's a
103:59it's maybe two two I think it's gonna be by a series so two series is for Kyron there's Blake getting one
104:05two series for Kyron Blake gets one so that's a third of the touches potentially so just one of those stretches where
104:11he's gonna get into the red zone and he'll get a chance to either catch a screen because he's good on screens
104:17or get one of those red zone touches for a touchdown so I thought plus 150 for a guy that I think
104:23will get double digit touches it's actually kind of like kind of what I'm gonna lean into and then the other one
104:29was just if you're really feeling sick and I don't think there's anything more than our Wednesday Yahoo fantasy forecast shows then
104:35Colby Parkinson first touchdown a wide tight end getting the first touchdown a plus 1450 baby designer play get into that inside
104:41that 10 yard line and then here comes that play action that boots something that just gets them into the end zone
104:47first touchdown start the season with some kind of cool design touch because they want to make sure they have the right
104:53play for it as opposed to like something else like just how coaches do it when they they game up or put
104:59their game plans together so Colby Parkinson plus 1450 first touchdown is my real real sicko tout for this week's games that
105:04is some absolutely sick pup stuff I mean I do think that like I'm interested to see what Terrence Ferguson's role looks
105:10like in this one there's been so much talk about him you know playing multiple positions for this team moving around the
105:16formation and everything real quick before we get off this game here Nate just anything that people should watch out for from
105:22the Rams offense in the first game of the season we're always like looking to see what Sean McVay kind of what
105:28does he have for us this year obviously last year the 13 personnel take over the whole deal what are we looking
105:34for with the Rams offense this year yeah I'm glad you mentioned Ferguson because I do think that's where it really got
105:40unlocked last year was the multi-title looks getting him vertical against this 49ers defense might be a little different on Raheem Morris
105:46but no there's two things is tempo and and use it Cliff Kingsbury's on the staff I'm curious if they lean into
105:52going a little bit faster and get into the run game that might be more opportunities for this really juicy offense to
105:58get more plays more yards more points also is in the run game they are kind of the spearhead of what everyone
106:04does they were the outside zone team when outside zone was cool then they went empty and then they went to a
106:10now they've been a duo team which is a little bit more at you that's Kyron Williams that's what Blake Corum runs
106:16really well I'm curious in run game wise if we see more pullers so look for uh offensive lineman pulling getting out
106:21in space not I could see the I don't know what Raheem's going to lean into Raheem Morris the defense coordinator because
106:27they've been so four down quarters based uh under Kyle Shanahan no matter who the defense coordinator is and Raheem's been a
106:33little bit of everything so if he's going to be a five down guy which he was with the last time he
106:39called plays with the Rams then that's great opportunities for pullers so if you want to just look for something in the
106:45football scheme wise look for the Rams pulling their offensive lineman with gap scheme is what they call it so that's counter
106:51or power runs amazing I'm definitely going to keep my eye out on that especially as you talk about that that backfield
106:57split like is it a 60 40 between Kyron and Blake Corum I like the way you kind of outlined that as
107:03it could be a series by series sort of deal that would certainly be interesting because they have been very excited about
107:09Blake Corum and potentially one of those guys him and Terrence Ferguson are the two like kind of younger guys who could
107:15add a little more pop to this offense and I think we'll need another dimension here okay there you do there you
107:21have it that's our show big big one today okay that was a big freaking show Nate appreciate you joining me for
