1:29This is fantasy football today from CBS Sports. It's time to dominate your fantasy league.
1:34Now, here's some combination of Adam, Dave, Jamie, and Heath.
1:37What's up, everybody? Wednesday, August 19th. Welcome to the show.
1:40It's fantasy football today. It's Adam, Jamie, and Heath.
1:43And we are telling you how to pick from each spot in the draft.
1:47First three picks, four through six, seven through nine, 10 through 12.
1:51Strategies in a 12-team league. You know, when do you draft that quarterback?
1:55When do you draft that tight end? So on and so forth.
1:58You start running back, running back. Does your first pick get influenced by who you think is going to be available in the second round?
2:06That decision comes into play if you have the second or third pick in your draft.
2:11Anyway, good morning, Jamie. Good morning, Adam. Welcome to Florida.
2:14Oh, yeah. I love it. That heat. I love it.
2:17Give me all that heat. Give me that 93 degrees.
2:20Heath, what's up? I do think it's going to play in your favor.
2:24I haven't released my odds yet. I guess I need maybe I'll do that at the end of the show yet, because
2:31I think I've been within a half of a game each of the last two years.
2:36Yeah, you've been really good. Yeah, I'm curious to see where you're at.
2:40Adam's winning this year. Yeah, well, I don't know about that.
2:43You should know if you're making odds. The Achilles is barking a little bit.
2:48Oh, excuses already? Yeah, I've got one early odd that I can release.
2:52This is scheduled for best two out of three.
2:54Is that right? It's first to win two sets.
2:57But there'll be a 10-point tiebreaker instead of a third set if we get there.
3:02So we're up to minus 150 on the match not making it to someone winning two sets and someone having to pull out.
3:09And the money is coming in on a withdrawal.
3:12All right. Well, here's what we're going to do.
3:14Dan retires. Are you going to take that as a like, you really won this?
3:19Yes. So I got to take whatever I can get.
3:22So let's get into the show here. We have a lot of news, big news with Alvin Kamara and much more.
3:29But the Giants side Najee Harris. Heath, does this matter?
3:32We're going to find out if it matters. But yeah, I think it possibly is a bad thing for Tyrone Tracy.
3:38And I think it has to be at least a little bit of ding on Cam Scadaboo because it wasn't like they saw.
3:45And listen, they had talked to Najee Harris before Tyrone Tracy completely apparently blew his assignment.
3:50But the fact that him doing that didn't make them think, okay, we'll just play Cam Scadaboo even more.
3:56We need to go find somebody else to do that job.
3:59So yeah, it matters a little bit. Okay. So is Cam Scadaboo a top 48 player for you?
4:05Yes. Jamie? No. Because of the Najee thing? He was already like 46, 47 already.
4:10So like I put him, I had him ahead of Judkins.
4:13I put Judkins ahead of him. I had him.
4:16I think I already moved Swift ahead of him with the Monongai news.
4:20So that probably bumped him back a spot or two.
4:23So yeah, now he's in round five. Okay. I will say that like the one clip I saw of Najee running through some tackling dummies.
4:30He looked like he was moving okay. I mean, he never was moving great.
4:35All right. He's never been a great running back.
4:38He's coming off a torn Achilles. He himself says he's not in football shape.
4:42So I don't want to overreact. Just to Heath's point, the workout was scheduled before the preseason game.
4:47So Najee was coming no matter what. And the first rep in practice yesterday in team drills, Tracy took the first handoff.
4:54So I don't know if that was, hey, we're showing confidence in him.
4:58So look, if Najee makes the final roster, then I think we have an issue.
5:03There's a long way to go. There was a report a few weeks ago that the Giants wanted to add to their running back room.
5:10So not a huge surprise, I guess. Mike Evans, after I put him on my all-in list yesterday on FFT Express, he has tightness.
5:18He's already missed two weeks with a quad injury.
5:21Now Mike Evans has tightness. Would you guys draft him in the fifth round, Mike Evans?
5:26Late fifth. No. And I've been out on Mike Evans, so I'm out still.
5:30Kyle Menongai is week to week. Breeze Hall is out two to three weeks with a groin injury.
5:35Josh Jacobs returned to practice. Top 30 pick, Josh Jacobs?
5:38No. Just outside. Okay. I think he went 23rd in the draft we're going to look at today, which could be a
5:45perfectly fine pick if he doesn't miss any time.
5:48All right. Here's one. Alvin Kamara. Heath out about a month with a knee injury.
5:53What does this mean for Travis Achan? Well, it's not just this, but it's the combination of the Najee signing and the
5:59Jeremiah Love injury and the Breeze Hall injury. I think Jamie and I have both talked about Achan being drafted too high, maybe even called him a bust.
6:08I made a public proclamation on making it here.
6:11Taking that all back. He is a top 15 running back.
6:14He's a fine pick in round three. I wouldn't take him in round three, but he's definitely moved up three or four spots.
6:21So he was behind Scadaboo. He's ahead of Scadaboo.
6:24I'm still torn between him and Breeze Hall just because of I think there's still a little bit more upside for Hall if he's right.
6:32But look, the injury is probably something that I should reconsider.
6:35But round four for sure. I was afraid to take him in round four.
6:39So I agree with Heath. He's no longer a bust.
6:42There's a kind of a great feeling. I feel bad saying this because it's at the expense of Alvin Kamara, but I
6:49drafted Travis Achan yesterday before the news came out.
6:52And now it's, you know, that feeling when it gains much value.
6:56Was this a real draft? Yeah. Yeah. It's in my, it's on my 14 team best ball flex league.
7:02I mean, it's a terrible thing to say. And you're a terrible person, but I was really going to blast you if you said that about a mock.
7:10No. I mean, again, just, just keep in mind.
7:13Same thing like with Mononga, if you're drafting Swift, these guys are not out for the season.
7:18Yeah. They're just out for the start of the year.
7:21Potentially. I do think that it is more possible that Kamara, not because we know anything about the severity of the injury,
7:28but just at his age and what he looked like last year.
7:32Like this could have a pretty significant impact in my, or it is my projections at least.
7:37Okay. Also, I want to get your thoughts on this, this team name.
7:41Yeah. You have to kind of see it. So you're telling me there's E-T-I-E-N-N-C-E.
7:45What do you think about that? You're telling me there's a chance.
7:49Yeah. I saw when you posted it, it was terrible then.
7:52I think it's great. Why wouldn't, why? Because it's not clever with E-C-H-N, because it's not clever with Devon E-C-H-N.
7:58It's clever with Travis E-C-H-N-C-E. No, you spell E-T-I-N the right way and just put an S at the end.
8:05I don't think so. That's H. So you're telling me there's E-C-H-N-C-E-N-C-E?
8:08I don't think so. I think it's a different sound at the end there.
8:13All right. Let's get back to the news notes.
8:15But running back Trey Benson for the Cardinals, he participated in a practice in some capacity.
8:20Kalon Black returned to practice in some capacity for San Francisco.
8:24Jadon Blue has a shoulder injury for Dallas. Quentin Johnston limped off.
8:27I just want to say that. No, that's a regular size shower.
8:31Oh, man. It's just... We're looking at comments here.
8:34And Quentin Johnson limped off. He's fine. Seth McGowan appears to be the number two running back in Indianapolis behind Jonathan Taylor.
8:41Parker Washington day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Jaylen McMillan back for the Bucs.
8:45Keon Coleman was in a walking boot. Jaden Higgins for Houston.
8:48He left with an injury. I don't have any update on that.
8:52Taequann Thornton for the Chiefs. He has a hamstring strain.
8:55And Jets tight end Kenyon Sadiq is expected to be ready for week one.
8:59All right. We're about to get into the crux of the show.
9:03Drafting from each position. But I'll remind you again.
9:06We are one week away from our draft-a-thon show.
9:08Our live stream. It's going to have some great guests from around the industry.
9:13That's going to be on Wednesday, August 26th. And we've got the tennis match tomorrow, 4.30 p.m.
9:18Eastern. You can see that at youtube.com slash fantasyfootballtoday.
9:21You can bid to be on Team Adam or Team Dan.
9:24And that means you're going to share a team.
9:27The highest bidder shares a team in the Fantasy Football Today League.
9:30And also there's a little bit of stakes there depending on who wins the match.
9:35But there's so much more to bid on including spots in the Podcast League.
9:39Spots in the Leftover League. Spots in the Eliminator League.
9:42Spots in the Beyond the Box Score Dynasty League.
9:45Go to the auction house at tinyurl.com slash fftdonate2026.
9:48tinyurl.com slash fftdonate2026. I think the Team Adam, Team Dan is actually not in the auction house section.
9:54But the rest of it is in the auction house section.
9:57So great things to bid on. You're kind of running out of time if you want to be in those leagues.
10:03And we're all doing it to raise money for St.
10:06Jude. We're somewhere around $125,000 right now. Okay. Drafting in each position.
10:10Before we look at picks one through three, that's where we'll start.
10:14Just a general thought. It seems like I guess with quarterback and tight end, Jamie, this is my opinion and I'll ask you if you agree.
10:22In terms of quarterback and tight end, it seems like there's kind of value all over the board in different spots.
10:28So I don't know if you have to really go into the draft thinking about where you're targeting a tight end or
10:35a quarterback, except for maybe the first three tight ends.
10:38But you can go greater or later, middle rounds at either of those positions, in my opinion.
10:43It takes a little bit of the stress off.
10:46Do you sort of agree with that? There's value sort of everywhere at quarterback and tight end?
10:51Yeah. I think just if you're going to throw the tight ends in sort of a theory of having a strategy, you
10:58should probably do that with Josh Allen too. Because if you want to get him, you have to make a little bit of an effort to do so.
11:07But yeah, you're right. I think it's just one of those things.
11:10Quarterback is easy to sort of just I'll play the board.
11:14I'll take the value as we talked about yesterday.
11:17You know, Dave says he's waiting to steal the right player.
11:20You know, so if ADP holds and it's Allen in round two and then Lamar Jackson late round four, early round five,
11:27like that's ridiculous, you know, and then the trickle down effect from there.
11:31I think tight end, like you said, it's the first three guys.
11:34Really, I think the tier or the group that defines the position is four through eight.
11:39Because that's where I think you have to make a call of, okay, now the three guys are off the board.
11:46Do I want Tyler Warren in round five? Do I want the next trio, which is going to be in any order of Laporta, Pitts, Kraft?
11:54And when do I want to pull the trigger on that?
11:57So that's really, I think, where the strategy comes into play with tight end is after the first three guys come off the board.
12:05But yes, you can still get great value with Kittle, Kelsey, likely Goddard relatively late or at least relatively good value and be fine.
12:12And Heath, you know, I don't want to be so repetitive on this show because we talk so much about it's not
12:19a bad idea to start running back, running back.
12:22If you can get two of the top 12 and then in rounds three and four, the wide receiver value is pretty good.
12:29Maybe this is more of a, if you have a later pick in round one strategy, but you could certainly start your
12:35team with, you know, James Cook and Omari and Hampton.
12:38And then Zay Flowers and Ladd McConkie or Devante Smith and Zay Flowers or Ted Arold McMillan and Garrett Wilson, some combination of that, right?
12:46But there was a point in the draft when I was just looking at the draft board.
12:51Thomas, you want to throw up the draft board from our spotlight draft last week?
12:56There was a point in the draft that I don't think I've brought up enough.
13:01And to me, it's RB, the running backs are in green here.
13:04It's RB, I would say 23-ish or so. So you see Travis Achan going in round five.
13:09I don't think that's going to happen very often.
13:12DeAndre Swift, maybe he's early round five or something.
13:15But it's that point in the draft, like Bucky Irving and maybe David Montgomery.
13:19Where is David Montgomery on this draft? I don't even see him.
13:23But he should be there somewhere. But Bucky Irving and David Montgomery, I think they come off the board.
13:29There's something like RB 23-ish. I think after that is this area of running back, Travion Henderson, Bejal Tootin.
13:35Oh, there's Montgomery. Montgomery was a little bit of a steal in round six, maybe.
13:39Then you got Jadarian Price, Tony Pollard, the Steelers guys, Jonathan Brooks, maybe.
13:43I think to me, again, you tell me if you agree or disagree.
13:47That's a drop off in tier. And for the people drafting late in round one, I don't feel confident that you're going
13:54to get to the back end of the top 23.
13:57I think they might be off the board by the time your pick comes up in round five.
14:03And you're going to have to decide, do I want Bejal Tootin here?
14:07Do I want Travion Henderson? Do I want Brooks?
14:09Do I want Jadarian Price? Do you see it that way at running back?
14:14So I don't agree with that being the drop off of a tier.
14:18And I did, I think, I sent it in last night, so I think it'll publish today.
14:23I'm updating my tiers this week, so you can go on the site and see all of those.
14:29And what you will find is that Bucky Irving and David Montgomery are kind of part of a projections mega tier for
14:35me that includes a lot of running backs that are going to be available in rep.
14:40The part of your question that maybe makes sense is if you're picking, like, first in round five and you don't pick
14:47again until the end of round six, then maybe I could see it.
14:51But I think a lot of times you get one of those guys in the mega tier that are still there.
14:57Okay, but your mega tier actually starts earlier than, I guess, what my mega tier would be.
15:03So, because I'm thinking, all right, in round five, I still might be able to get Scadaboo or Judkins or Swift or
15:09Bucky Irving or David Montgomery, something like that. I'd be okay with that.
15:13And I think Scadaboo, Judkins, Swift are better than Irving and Montgomery.
15:17But what I really don't want is I don't want my RB2.
15:21I mean, I'm okay with it. But I just, I recognize, like, Travon Henderson, Basil Tootin, Tony Pollard, Jadarian Price, Jonathan Brooks, Steelers, guys, whatever.
15:29Like, that's definitely different from the guys before them.
15:31Yours starts even earlier than that. So, it seems like round five.
15:35So, yeah, I basically put, I don't know. I'm saying no, I don't agree with that.
15:40I put Pollard and Bucky and the Patriots and the Steelers and Tootin and Montgomery all in the same group.
15:46Okay. That's fine. But it's definitely different than, like, Swift, Scadaboo, Judkins.
15:50Yes. Yeah. And there's a chance you can get those guys, like, early in round five.
15:55I think if you have a late pick in round five, there's pretty much no chance you're getting that tier of running back.
16:02Agreed. Yeah. Jamie, your take on this? Like, the way I just, the way our drafts have played out, late round five
16:09seems, like, significantly worse for running back prospects to me than early round five, in my opinion.
16:14How about you? Do you see that at all?
16:17Yeah. I mean, look, again, we're going to see some movement now because of the potential of both Swift and HN moving
16:23up in ADP, Travis HN moving up in ADP, and I think how we're going to view them.
16:29I think Scadaboo is going to fall a little bit just by nature of them adding another running back, certainly another running back that has name value.
16:37So, there's going to be a little bit of a shift there.
16:41You know, Tony Pollard not having the offense not looking great for the Titans and then him getting a little bit banged
16:48up, you know, is going to change some things.
16:50I think the reports from the Patriots are now starting to see a little bit of a shift.
16:56I know Dave and I have already made the move of putting Ramondre ahead of Trevion.
17:01I don't know if Heath will do the same thing, just how strong of a camp that Ramondre's had.
17:07Rico Dowdle may be separating himself a little bit.
17:09So, I think there could be some movement there.
17:12I'm with you, though. I think it's kind of the cutoff is after really Bucky, and then you get that group of
17:19about seven, eight guys that starts with Tootin. Price, Pollard, the Steelers guys, all the guys you mentioned, I think that's kind
17:26of where you get a little bit more concerned about, okay, am I good enough there?
17:31But I think really once we're going to get into this, the strategy is, and I did this last night in the
17:37mock draft that we did with the St. Jude, the people donated to St.
17:42Jude, is I purposely passed on CeeDee Lamb and Justin Jefferson at the turn.
17:46I had the 12 pick and did go running back, running back to see how it would play out.
17:52And really, I feel so much more comfortable with how my roster looks because of the receiver depth that you get in
17:59rounds three, four, five, and even round six. And so, you know, not to change the draft that we're talking about here,
18:05but that was, I started with Ashton Gentey and Ken Walker.
18:09I took Colston Loveland in round three, but then I still got Garrett Wilson, Mike Evans, Parker Washington, and I love that.
18:16You know, so I think just if you're comfortable enough not having a number one receiver by definition, then you should be
18:22in a good spot if you go running back, running back to start.
18:26All right, so I think we all see the position fairly similarly.
18:30The difference might be a one or two running backs in this tier where like Heath is saying David Montgomery and Bajal
18:37Tootin, sorry, David Montgomery and Bucky Irving are all part of this big tier with Tootin and Henderson, et cetera.
18:43Jamie mentioned, I would put Montgomery and Bucky a little bit ahead of that.
18:47Jamie mentioned Bucky, but I didn't hear what your thoughts on Montgomery.
18:51I like Montgomery better than Bucky. Okay. Okay. All right.
18:54So just something to keep in mind and the draft we're looking at today.
18:58This is a good episode, by the way, if you don't typically watch on YouTube to look at youtube.com slash fantasy football today.
19:05Very, a little surprising that teams 10, 11, and 12, none of them went running back, running back, which is cool.
19:12And we get to see like, you could, it could easily work.
19:16We talk about that all the time going running back, running back there, and then two wide receivers, or maybe Colson Loveland
19:22and a wide receiver with three, four, but none of them went running back, running back.
19:27They all went some combination of a running back and a receiver.
19:31All right. We're going to take a break. Be aware.
19:34We did this draft last Friday. No, I'm sorry.
19:37Last Wednesday. Excuse me. So we could go today.
19:40Yeah. And prior to the Jeremiah Love news, there's also half PPR.
19:43Okay. Not full. Yeah. Even more reason to go running back, running back, I would say.
19:48But okay. We will be right back after this to get into how to draft from each position on fantasy football today.
19:55My companion for this summer season has been Z Biotics.
19:58Let me tell you why. Just headed out to a concert at Pier 17.
20:02Howl Mouth. What a show. I got home at 3 a.m.
20:06And I realized 8 a.m. tea time. What am I going to do?
20:10I got a big match. No worries at all.
20:13I took Z Biotics the night before. Had a few drinks.
20:16Woke up the next day like nothing happened. Got to that course at 7 a.m.
20:21Warmed up and won my match. Z Biotics pre-alcohol probiotic drink is the world's first genetically engineered probiotic.
20:26It was invented by PhD scientists to break down acetaldehyde, a byproduct of drinking alcohol.
20:31Pre-alcohol produces an enzyme that is designed to break down this byproduct.
20:34Make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night. Drink responsibly and enjoy your next day activities.
20:39Z Biotics has sold more than 14 million bottles and earned the trust of thousands, including us.
20:45Try for yourself today. And if you are unsatisfied, they will refund your entire order.
20:49No questions asked. Head to zbiotics.com backslash FFT. Code FFT for 15% off your first order.
20:54In a 12-team league, the running backs versus wide receivers at the 2-3 turn seems like wide receiver is typically stronger.
21:01So with that said, first question I would have looking at picks one through three here is, does round two affect your
21:07round one pick in any way, Heath? Heath? I'm sorry.
21:10I was having some technical difficulties and you're going to have to repeat the question.
21:15Sure. So I didn't even ask it that well.
21:18So thanks for giving me a mulligan here. Yeah.
21:21Um, so the, the running, the wide receivers are better at the 2-3 turn than the running backs in most drafts.
21:27You're looking at George Pickens and Rasheed Rice and Nico Collins, guys like that Malik neighbors, maybe like them.
21:33They're Jacobs. We like the wide receivers better. I think in general, does that impact your, if you're picking one through three,
21:40does that knowledge impact your first round pick in any way?
21:43I mean, I, I've all off season had it Gibbs B.
21:46John chase. That wasn't really because of that, but it's, it's pretty clear for me, those two running backs at the top.
21:53And then there's no running back that's in contention for that pick when chase is being taken.
21:58So no. Okay. If I was probably the only one who was taking chase over B.
22:03John, but it does give me a little bit of pause.
22:07Um, to think, I guess if I were going to take chase second, I would hope that, well, it doesn't matter.
22:13I mean, if I was thinking third, I would hope that I might be able to get like two of the Scadaboo
22:20Judkins, Swift ETN or HN rather, um, group in rounds four and five.
22:24I don't know about taking running back in round three.
22:27Um, to your question though, about what you do in round one, does that impact what you're going to do in round two?
22:34We are starting to see a very segmented draft based on ADP and that it's, it's reflective in a lot of the
22:41ways our drafts have gone to not this one in particular because of where I'm on Ross St.
22:46Brown is, but you're typically seeing two running backs as a start for receivers next.
22:51And then based on ADP, all running backs to close out the first round.
22:55Now CD lamb will work his way into that conversation.
22:58Jefferson will work his way into that conversation. Um, I don't know if any other receiver creeps into that realm yet, but
23:05that's kind of the way the draft is. So if you kind of know where you're picking already and I haven't really
23:12seen it in a lot of our drafts again, ADP still says it's happening, but the cutoff, if you're watching the, the,
23:19the show on YouTube, it's a Maureen Hampton with the seventh pick in the second round, right?
23:24One, two, three, four, five, six. Yep. The seventh pick in the second round.
23:28So it's almost very difficult to go in thinking that, okay, if I take Jamar chase, I'm going to still get a top 12 running back.
23:36I don't think it's going to happen. So you can almost go with the idea of if I take Gibbs or Bijan,
23:43I'm probably going receiver, receiver or receiver tight end because I don't think at this point it's worth reaching for love or
23:50Jacobs or Kyron or Javante, whichever running back you think is there.
23:53And then I think if you're taking the receivers, you almost think you're committing yourself to receiver, receiver, receiver tight end as well.
24:01Yep. Wait, say that one more time. If you take chase or Puka or JSN or St.
24:06Brown, whatever order that you have them, you should have an idea of I'm probably starting receiver, receiver.
24:11And I may be starting receiver, receiver, receiver with the way some of the guys we wanted to take early round three have kind of faltered.
24:19Would you ever do that in a two receiver league?
24:22Start with three receivers? Two receiver and a flex?
24:25Absolutely. As long as it's full PPR. Yep. Yeah.
24:28I think I'd rather have the tight end than the three receivers.
24:32But then you may be looking at like Malik Navers, Devontae Smith.
24:35Well, yeah, you could take Bowers and McBride. That's fine.
24:38But I thought the question was, would you ever not take a running back in the first three rounds?
24:44I mean, that can certainly, yeah. I mean, that certainly could be the question.
24:49Yeah. I kind of approach it at this point.
24:51Again, you don't want to ever pigeonhole yourself to I'm taking these players or this position until you see the draft unfold.
24:58But I kind of go in with the understanding of if I have three, four, five or six draft slot, I'm probably
25:05going receiver, receiver, receiver, tight end, probably looking receiver around three and then trying to get one or two of those guys
25:12in the group that you continue to mention. Hopefully, H.N.
25:15Swift, Judkins, Scadaboo, Montgomery, Bucky. If I get two of those guys, I'm thrilled with it if I get the right start.
25:21Let's repeat this. That was really important here. So you're basically saying if you start off your draft with one of Chase, JSN, Puka, or St.
25:29Brown, you're probably picking third through sixth in this scenario.
25:33And I don't know that – I mean, if you have the fifth or sixth pick, I think you have a decent
25:39chance of getting a top 12 running back in round two, Ken Walker, Derrick Henry, something like that.
25:45Agreed, but I would not anticipate it though. Okay.
25:48But let's just repeat what – I'm not going into the draft saying, oh, I'm definitely taking Puka and Drake London like I did in the flex draft.
25:56I'm not anticipating that. I'm sorry. I'm not planning on that.
26:00But that's kind of the anticipation is that I'm looking probably to receivers.
26:04If any of those top 12 running backs fall to you in round two, I think you've got to pounce on it.
26:10Because like he said, those receivers in early round three where it's, you know, the Devontae Smith, Zay Flowers, hopefully still Chris
26:17Olave, Malik Neighbors, if you love those guys, like I don't see a huge drop off from where like Nico Collins, George Pickens are right now.
26:25There's drop off, but I don't think it's a huge drop off.
26:29There's a huge drop off in the running backs.
26:32Okay. So you want to just repeat that strategy one more time, Jamie?
26:36If you start your draft with one of those top four wide receivers, you're expecting to do what?
26:4112 team league? I'm expecting to be wide receiver, wide receiver at the start or wide receiver Bowers in round two or
26:48wide receiver, wide receiver McBride in round three or wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver as well.
26:53Because I just think like you don't want to be reaching for players that aren't as high end, don't have as much
27:00high end potential as maybe a Zay Flowers or a Devontae Smith or Malik Neighbors, those type of guys in round three.
27:07But certainly in round two, when you're talking about London, AJ Brown, Nico Collins, George Pickens, like you can still get studs
27:13and they're available to you without reaching for Jacobs or Kyron or one of those guys.
27:18So, and then it's kind of expecting to look in the running back position starting in round four.
27:24Yeah. However, we keep talking about top 12 running backs.
27:27I'll just say them. Gibbs, B. John Taylor, McCaffrey, Cook, A.
27:30Chan, Jente, Chase Brown, Barkley, Henry, Hampton, Walker. If one of those guys becomes available in round two and you took a
27:37wide receiver in round one, you're probably going with the running back.
27:41One of the top 12 running backs in round two, right?
27:44One billion percent. Right. Unless London's there because he falls to 18 sometimes.
27:48Okay. So we think, speaking about picks one through three, your chances of getting that top 12 running back in round two are pretty slim.
27:56Picks four through six, let's call it 50-50 that you might be able to get one of those top 12 running backs in round two.
28:04So just be prepared for either scenario here. I think if you go – this is not necessarily a picks one through
28:10three thing, but if you went wide receiver, wide receiver, wide receiver with your first three picks, does that take Colson Loveland
28:17off the board for you in round four? No.
28:20What's the running backs look like, clearly. But now you hopefully have dominated receiver and have a guy who could be a
28:27top number one type, could be the best tight end in fantasy.
28:30So you've got to be comfortable enough with that.
28:33But it's – are you – so I guess the tradeoff would probably be HN, Swift, Loveland, you know, one of those two guys versus Loveland.
28:41Because if it's Judkins or Scadaboo, I'm taking Loveland all day long.
28:45What if it's ETN? Sorry, Travis H. As I'm saying, that's a tough recall.
28:49Okay. Heath, getting back to picks one through three, what is your quarterback strategy, if anything?
28:54And if you're looking at this draft, Josh Allen went 47th.
28:57So anytime you see a CBS draft, the Josh Allen ADP is never going to match up.
29:03The other quarterbacks are going to actually get closer to what ADP is.
29:07Lamar Jackson going in round five, that typically doesn't happen.
29:10He's more of a round four pick, but like Josh Allen – Well, the other guys went in round six.
29:16Yeah, those guys are round five picks typically, but – It is really insane that like we are the kind of like
29:23the flagship of the six point per pass touchdown.
29:25And also if you see a CBS draft, you're going to see the quarterbacks too low.
29:30But – Yeah, what's your quarterback strategy? I don't – quarterback is not a position that I build a strategy on.
29:37It's more about if there's not somebody else that I love there, then I will take one.
29:42But I think at the one through three for the majority of normal people, you're not going to – I'm not going
29:49to take him in the first two rounds and he's not going – Josh Allen isn't going to be there in round
29:56three and I'm not going to take any other quarterback.
29:59Okay, so – Okay, so how about – let's say that you're probably – you are not going to be taking a quarterback.
30:06If you have picks one through three, you're not going to be taking a quarterback in the first three rounds.
30:12Right. Would you take Lamar Jackson at the 4-5 turn?
30:15That's – if somebody was – and this happens in a couple of my leagues that are on CBS – if somebody
30:22was drafting, like using my rankings and all of the other guys that I liked were gone, then I have Lamar Jackson,
30:29Drake May, Jaden Daniels, all kind of right there at the 4-5 turn.
30:33I think that would be fine. I don't ever do that because I'd take DeAndre Swift in round four and sometimes he's
30:39gone or sometimes he's still available or Quinshawn Judkins or – but yes, if every other player I liked was gone, Lamar
30:46I have at 47, May at 48, Daniels at 49, then I would take one of those guys.
30:52Yeah. I really like the – you know, Jackson if he gets to round five, love it.
30:57But May, Daniels, Burrow in round five. But it's like I kind of – that's usually for me later in round five
31:04because I – you know, if A-chan or Swift or Scadaboo or Judkins are on the board, that's hard for me to take a quarterback there.
31:12Jamie, would you take quarterbacks two through five in your rankings at the early – late round four or early part of round five?
31:19It all comes down to who I'm drafting with.
31:22So, you know, I hate to keep saying that.
31:25But so like if it's totally random people, just met them for the first time and I'm doing a random draft, the answer would probably be no.
31:33If I know like, okay, I know there's a quarterback run coming and I really want this guy, then maybe so.
31:39But at that point, I think you usually see if there's that spot in the running back wide receiver rankings where it just dries up.
31:47And so then you pivot and you feel like you're getting somebody that's pretty good.
31:52All right. Also with – Just for reference like – because I don't think this is going to be a thing that's available to people at all.
32:00Lamar Jackson at the end of round four. And in Fantasy Pro's ADP, he's up to 42 now.
32:05He's at 41 or 40 in CBS ADP. He's going to be a round three pick.
32:10Okay. So what was I going to say? Oh, this – picks one through three, you have to know how you feel about Bowers and McBride.
32:18Right. I mean, these guys are clearly in play with the second or the third round picks.
32:24And the thing about Loveland is if you look at our drafts, Loveland will go late in round three or early in round four.
32:31In this draft, he went mid-round four. But his ADP is 44th on Fantasy Pro's 45th on CBS.
32:37This is basically where he went here. But there's – you're probably not getting Loveland in round four.
32:42So if you want a top three tight end, you got to go Bowers or McBride late in round two or early in round three.
32:50Heath, how do you feel about that? I would – so I would take Bowers early in round three.
32:56I would take Loveland if he's there late in round four.
32:59You would not take McBride early in round three?
33:02No. I have Loveland ahead of McBride. Jamie, how do you feel about taking Bowers or McBride around the 2-3 turn and
33:09Loveland if he makes it there in round four?
33:11Bowers as early as 20. McBride early part of round three.
33:15Loveland late part of round three, early round four.
33:17Yeah. I mean if I knew that Loveland was going to fall to me in round four, I would not even think about Bowers and McBride.
33:25I would just take Loveland in round four. But you can't approach it even thinking that's a chance.
33:31It's a pleasant surprise if it happens. But you can't think, oh, I'm going to get Loveland in round four.
33:37You're probably not. Well, I guess let me ask this question.
33:41Would you have preferred, looking at your draft, you started McCaffrey and Hampton with your first two picks.
33:46Would you have preferred Loveland and then DJ Moore or Higgins and James Williams?
33:50No, Javante. No, Javante. Excuse me. All right. Yeah.
33:53McCaffrey. So I had the sixth pick and I went McCaffrey, Hampton.
33:57This is half PPR. Higgins round three. Yeah. I could have taken Loveland there.
34:01No. I thought that was a little too early for Loveland.
34:05And certainly I could see him hitting that ADP.
34:07I wasn't going to take him there. What a wide receiver core you drafted in this league.
34:13Oh, horrible. But that's the price you pay when you, when I look, Javante Williams, I was too good to pass up at 43rd overall.
34:20I could have taken DJ Moore there or Burden or Evans or something like that.
34:25But no, I, that's the price you pay. And then Lamar Jackson at 54.
34:29It's okay to be weak at positions. If I'm great at running back, I have a great quarterback, you know, whatever.
34:36It's okay. Let's go to, if you, if you take, well, we're not there yet.
34:40We got, let's got, I got to get to picks four through six.
34:44Oh, it matters. All right. Go ahead. Go ahead.
34:47No, I'm just saying like, because you, you did something what a lot of people should do is you, you've, you got a gift.
34:54Javante Williams in round four is a gift. Yeah.
34:57And so then I think it's the, the, the tough call is okay.
35:01Three receiver league. Do I take Lamar Jackson there or Terry McLaurin there?
35:05Just, you know, next, next receiver. This thing that really stands out to me and we, I think all have it this
35:12way, but like all, all Adam had to do was take him on Ross St.
35:17Brown at six. Right. Yeah. As a full PPR, I probably would have half, well, not necessarily.
35:22I don't know. I was still on McCaffrey, but fair enough.
35:25I could have done, I could have taken St.
35:28Brown, but I like, I mean, I'm not having no problem having Christian McCaffrey on my team.
35:33That's it for picks one through three. You have to know how you feel about Bowers and McBride.
35:39You're probably not getting Laporta late. We're not telling you, we're not advising to take Josh Allen at the two, three turn.
35:45And just be aware that at that two, three turn, the wide receivers are going to be better than the running backs.
35:52So if you're deciding between Bijan and chase at pick two, that could be the deciding factor for you saying, I'm going
35:59to take Bijan because I'm going to like my wide receivers better at the two, three turn.
36:04And yeah, we have, by the way, if you're not watching, we have three completely different builds in the first three rounds.
36:11We have Gibbs, the number team one, when Gibbs Pickens McBride team to when Bijan Jacobs rice and team three was Jamie
36:18chase Brock Bowers and Jeremiah love before the injury.
36:21Now get out of here. Get out of here.
36:23Get a Jeremiah. Stop. Dan's hitting me with a golf club.
36:27Of course he has a golf club in his hand.
36:30Not a tennis racket. Yes. Jamie, who would you take there?
36:33You had chase them Bowers. You took Jeremiah love with the third pick of round three.
36:38If you're doing this draft again, who would you have taken?
36:41I would have taken Devante Smith. Devante Smith. Okay.
36:44Let's take a break. I probably had neighbors at this point.
36:48Yeah. Neighbors. I'm trying to go. Alave was actually on the board.
36:51You could have taken a lot of, but this is before the.
36:55Oh yeah. I would agree. All right. We'll be right back after this on fantasy football today.
37:00Okay. See Dan, if you see him in the background, he, he feels like he has to hit me with a golf club.
37:07He feels he has to go. Tanya Harding. Can I get one comment?
37:11I'll say this. Adam may be skinny, but man, does he look weak?
37:15I got no words for tomorrow. All right. Get out of here.
37:19All right. It's a good combination. Picks four through six in, uh, in our drafts.
37:24And all three of these teams started with a wide receive.
37:27Uh, no, they didn't. I'm an idiot. Oh, all three teams could start, could start with a wide receiver is what I meant to say in my notes.
37:36Your own team did not. Yeah, it did. Yeah.
37:38I just read my notes wrong. I think oftentimes all three teams will start with a wide receiver.
37:44I went with Christian McCaffrey. There is one that's falling and we'll see how far he falls.
37:49And that's Puka. Sure. Um, yeah. So some of these teams do at least two of these three teams are going to start wide receiver.
37:57Jamie, you already talked about drafting from this spot.
38:00You're expecting to go receiver receiver. I think there's a chance that teams five and six especially could see one of those running backs fall.
38:07In this case, it was Amari and Hampton. We got this question last night on the live stream.
38:13And I do think that there are people that are going to take this into account.
38:18Especially if they start doing mock drafts or do multiple leagues.
38:21Somebody asked, should I take Jonathan Taylor at four knowing that I'm going to get a great receiver in round two?
38:28And so like, if you have that much of a feeling about Taylor, I think McCaffrey is the other one that will
38:34probably, you know, come into the conversation if he gets back to practice and he's healthy.
38:39I don't think it'll be any of the other guys that go that early.
38:44If you have that inclination, like, okay, I know what I'm looking at in round two versus what I'm looking at round one.
38:51And there's the possibility of you could still take Taylor early.
38:54And as we see based on ADP, still get running back in round two.
38:58You know, the, the Walker, Henry, you know, Barkley trio that falls to the back or, you know, whatever ADP says Hampton.
39:05Um, if you, if you're comfortable with that great, you know, just know that you're passing up one of the four best
39:12wide receivers that have an incredible resume and incredible projections for this year.
39:16I think at half PPR, I probably would actually have Taylor ranked at number four.
39:20He's above McCaffrey, my projections. I'm pretty sure he was better than McCaffrey and half PPR last year.
39:26And I'm more concerned about a drop off from McCaffrey than I am Taylor.
39:30So that half PPR does make a pretty big difference when you're talking about receivers that are going to catch a hundred
39:37passes versus a running back who might catch 40.
39:40And they could be a way ahead of them in full PPR.
39:44And he might be ahead of them in half.
39:46I'll just say, I have the six pick in a draft that's going on right now.
39:51I'm actually on the clock and it's a 14 team league.
39:55So I knew I was not getting a top 12 running back 23rd overall as my second pick and it's 14 team league.
40:02And I didn't have, and it was a half PPR league and I did not hesitate.
40:07I took Amon, I took a Jackson Smith and Jigba just like, I'm not getting cute with it.
40:12I'm just going to take the best player. I don't really care what the roster composition looks like here.
40:18So there are different schools of thought two weeks ago, two Tuesdays ago, Jamie, when we did the fan mock draft, I
40:25think the guy with the third pick took James Cook for this exact reason.
40:29He's like, I hate. Yeah, go ahead. No, no.
40:32I just, I'm curious. Why do you think in a half PPR league where I think all most, if not all projections
40:39will have Jonathan Taylor projected to score more points and he did score more points than JSN during his incredible year last year.
40:46Why do you think it's getting cute with it?
40:48Taking Taylor over Jason? It's not. That's not. I meant it.
40:52Um, it's a perfectly reasonable pick. I didn't mean that specifically Taylor versus JSN.
40:56I just meant, um, I personally am just going to stick with who I think is the best player there.
41:02I'm not going to play the board in round two with, with that round one pick.
41:07If we still have like the truly elite players like JSN was last year, but no, it's perfectly fine.
41:13Um, all right. So that's, that's just something to consider.
41:16You have a better chance of getting that top 12 running back, but still not a great chance to get that top 12 running back in round two.
41:25Um, and again, you have to know how you feel about Bowers and McBride.
41:29Jamie says Bowers as early as pick 20. Uh, Heath would not take Bowers, uh, in round two from picks four through six.
41:36Uh, would we both Heath? I know Jamie would take McBride and round powers or McBride and round three from picks four through six.
41:44Is that a decent spot for you for McBride?
41:46I have McBride at the end of round three.
41:49So no end of round three. Okay. I'm sorry.
41:52Um, right. And you have Loveland ahead of him.
41:55So most people are going to be fine with, with McBride if he falls to them in round three.
42:00Um, quarterback, I think is basically the same thing here.
42:04I mean, maybe if Josh Allen falls to who is anybody taking Josh Allen?
42:08If he falls to them in the middle of round three.
42:11Sure. Josh Allen in middle of round three. I probably will not, but that's the time to start considering him.
42:17I am the end of round three. Lamar Jackson in the middle of round four.
42:22Not for me. No. Lamar Jackson in the middle of round five.
42:26Yes. Yeah. But that's not like we, we should stop doing that because it's just not going to happen.
42:32Okay. How about Burrow may Daniels in middle of round five?
42:35Sure. Better Daniels in May for me than Burrow, but yeah.
42:38Okay. Um, Heath, what's your take on just picking four through six?
42:42Jamie gave his, what about it? No, I think, I think it's, it's very similar.
42:47Like I had, um, I had the sixth pick in a couple of drafts a couple of weeks ago, the FSG, a draft and a different one.
42:55And that's, I, I started, I think both of them with three wide receivers or two wide receivers and a tight end.
43:02So I pretty much always will do that unless it's a half PPR.
43:06And then I think Taylor's in consideration there, or unless a Chan follows back into that pick four through six range, cause
43:12I have him ahead of a lot of these guys at the back end of the RB twos.
43:18And he's, he's the one that might fall, but I'm like, even if I took a wide receiver in round one and
43:25say Quan or Henry falls, but Nico and, or Nico or picking or Rice are still available.
43:30I'm taking them. I'll just start with the wide receivers.
43:33I gotta be honest with you. I, I get it with, you know, kind of strategizing around when those top 12 running
43:40backs are coming off the board and what that can mean for you in round two.
43:45And I always say the running back, the wide receivers are better in rounds three and four than the running backs just as a whole.
43:52I believe that, but I still see plenty of opportunities to take Kyron Williams in round three.
43:58That's perfectly fine. Javante Williams, right? Like it's not a bad thing to take.
44:02I don't want to make it seem like you shouldn't under any circumstances, take a running back in round three, right?
44:08When's the right time to do that at picks four through six?
44:12Could you see yourself doing that Heath? So in a full, in a full PPR league or a half PPR league, it's, it's definitely different.
44:20Um, in a full PPR league, I don't think I currently have a running back ranked between pick 21 and pick 35.
44:27So it's, it's, uh, so I know it's a big round of wide receivers and tight ends for me.
44:32Jamie, same question to you. No, I, I would take a running back in round three.
44:37I think there's still value for Javante. I think there's still value for Jacobs.
44:42Now that he's back at practice, we just don't know what there's a suspension so that could change things.
44:48Um, and there's still value for Kyron there. You know, I know there's, he's going to share with, with Corum, but you
44:54know, he was still extremely productive last year and his track record, I think suggests that he's still going to be productive again, as long as he's healthy.
45:03I don't think he's getting benched for Corum. Uh, you can make a case as he said for, you know, Travis H and now being around three pick.
45:12I think if you feel comfortable enough with Brees hall, you can make a case.
45:16He's still around three pick Jeremiah love if you know, you're, you're okay with the situation there.
45:21So there's still lots of guys that come into play there.
45:25And I think, you know, based on what you're looking at, and that's a, that's a pretty, you know, decent enough group
45:32that I mentioned if you're back end of around the middle to the back end of round three that, okay, maybe one
45:38of these guys falls into around four and I can still take a great receiver here, but we're also seeing with, you
45:45know, that position, you know, especially like neighbors still not a hundred percent.
45:49Devante Smith's still not a hundred percent. Abuka has got the toe injury.
45:53Now we don't know where he's going to end up and Luther burden with his groin injury.
45:58Like that's changed how that position I think has been, you know, sort of, you know, formed or forming.
46:04So there's different ways you can go with it, but I still think, yes, to answer your question, there are running backs
46:11worth taking in round three, just not early round three.
46:14Yeah. I have H and Ann Kyron both in round three.
46:17They're just pick 35 and 36. That'd be Travis H and so let's take a look at the three builds here between picks four or five and six.
46:26We've got two teams that went receiver, receiver, receiver.
46:29Now this is a half PPR three receiver league plus a flex.
46:32And we have one team, my team that went running back, running back receiver.
46:37So we've got, I mean, personally, I think all three teams, I love all of them.
46:42Just the starts, the three, the first three picks, JSN pick team four was Jack.
46:46He went JSN Nico Collins Malik neighbors. Like that's that's, you'd be happy about that, right?
46:51Love it. Yes. JSN Nico neighbors. Do you like it better if it's JSN Bowers neighbors?
46:56Same. I think it's, you know, if you, if you feel comfortable enough with the tight end, he got Tucker craft and a great spot.
47:04So I think it worked out really well. I mean, I'd like it better if it was JSN Pickens Bowers or neighbors, but it doesn't really matter.
47:12I don't think what names you put there. It's just that like I, those two teams pick four and five, the fact
47:19that they were able to take those three wide receivers, which I've, like I said, I've already done multiple times.
47:25And then one of them ends up with Scadaboo, HN, that won't happen anymore.
47:29And Jadarian Price, one of them gets up with Judkins and Bucky Irving.
47:33And the guy who got HN there in round five could have taken Bucky or somebody could have taken like that.
47:40There's that's fantastic. That's exactly the way I want to draft from this point in the draft.
47:45Yeah. Okay. Right. So again, I'll just read the first six picks then, right?
47:49For team four, JSN, Nico Collins, Malik neighbors, Cam Scadaboo, Travis HN.
47:53That's not a realistic pick at this point. I don't think, but things happen, right?
47:58I wouldn't have thought he'd go that late even before the Kamara news and Jadarian Price.
48:03So JSN, Nico neighbors, Scadaboo, Travis HN, Jadarian Price, Tucker craft.
48:06It's probably more realistic at this point. You just switch Scadaboo and HN.
48:10Yeah. Yeah, maybe. Or maybe that's Bucky Irving. Like if it's not Scadaboo and HN, if it's HN and Bucky Irving, are
48:17you still happy with JSN, Nico neighbors, HN, Bucky Price?
48:20Yep. Yeah. Tucker craft at tight end and then a quarterback later, I'm sure was really good.
48:25All right. Team five was Marone who like wins all of our leagues.
48:29He's awesome. Puka, AJ Brown, Devante Smith. And then he goes Quinch on Judkins and then he gets Bucky Irving.
48:35Now, let's say Bucky Irving had been off the board because in the previous scenario, we gave team four Bucky and he goes David Montgomery there.
48:43Would you be cool with that bill, Jamie? Puka, AJ Brown, Devante Smith, Judkins, David Montgomery, Sam Laporta.
48:49I like Montgomery better than Irving, so yes. Right.
48:52And I think, you know, I asked, maybe it's a better question for Heath because you don't really, I think you don't
48:58sense I'm getting, you don't like Irving and Montgomery as much as Jamie and I do based on the conversation we had a half hour ago.
49:06So if one of those ended up being your RB2, you went Puka, AJ Brown, Devante Smith, Quinch on Judkins and either
49:13Bucky Irving or David Montgomery and then Sam Laporta, who you love in round six.
49:18Would you feel good with that team? Yeah. I mean, I probably would have just taken Judkins and then taken Laporta in
49:24round five and then taken Pollard or somebody else in round six and then taken a few more running backs.
49:31Okay. Okay. And then my team is weird. I just want to bring up something real quick when you get to this
49:37because, you know, like you had the situation where Devante landed in your lap.
49:42There's going to be, you know, teams that start three wide receivers and you start to maybe get a little skittish about the running backs.
49:49Heath just brought up a great point. Like, I'm going to take Judkins and then I'm going to pivot to another great
49:56player that I like in Sam Laporta, you know, not to put words in your mouth, but I know that's how you feel.
50:03Right. So, like, there's still going to be very good players.
50:07And Dan says this a lot. It's a thousand percent accurate.
50:10Your flex scores the same amount as your wide receiver two or your running back two.
50:15Right. It's not a different position in your lineup that scores less.
50:19So, filling out your quote unquote starters or getting high end backups can still help you win leagues.
50:24You don't have to necessarily say, oh, I have to reach for a second running back here.
50:29I don't have to reach for, and I'm just throwing out a name.
50:33I don't have to reach for Rico Dowdle because that's the next best running back on the board.
50:39And now I'm passing up three other great players or a great quarterback or a great tight end.
50:44Pivot. This is why you have to be flexible in drafts.
50:48So, don't ever panic because I don't have my second running back filled or I didn't, you know, the draft didn't unfold
50:55the way that I wanted it to or I thought it was going to do.
50:59You know, there's still going to be ways you can win your league by taking other great players, not filling positions.
51:06Absolutely. And don't forget about the waiver wire. Your season's not over after you draft.
51:10My bill that pick six is weird. I don't think you'll see a ton of running back running back at pick six.
51:17But again, the last of the top 12 made it to me.
51:21And it happened to be Omari and Hampton in this draft as Ken Walker and Derek Henry went ahead of him.
51:27So, I took McCaffrey in round one, Omari and Hampton.
51:30I took T. Higgins. Now, you look at this draft board.
51:34Obviously, if Olave and Higgins are on the board, I would take Olave at this point.
51:39I took Higgins. Whatever. That could be any wide receiver you want.
51:42Not any. It could be Abuka, Higgins, Flowers, Garrett Wilson, Ladd McConkie, Ted Earl McMillan, whoever you feel comfortable with there.
51:49And then I was certainly planning on taking Colson Loveland if he had fallen to me in round four.
51:55He went to pick before me. And in my mind, I'm going McCaffrey, Hampton, wide receiver.
52:00I'm, of course, thinking if it's not Loveland, it's going to be a wide receiver in round four.
52:05But I couldn't pass off Javante Williams. And I would just say, if you're in a league like this, I don't think anybody who's listening will be.
52:13And Josh Allen's there in the middle of round four.
52:16Just take Josh Allen, please. I mean, like I know why.
52:20Why? Because you're drafting in this group when you know that all the quarterbacks are just going to fall this much.
52:26But there's a good chance if you just take Josh Allen, we're going to get another round and we're going to start having a quarterback run.
52:34Yeah, you're right. All right. It's a great point.
52:37But again, if to Jamie's point, like don't reach for a position, I'm not going to say I need this wide receiver
52:44here when I like Javante Williams a lot more than the wide receivers.
52:48And so my wide receivers kind of suck. I took because then I took Lamar Jackson in round five because I couldn't pass that up.
52:56But I'm OK with it. I don't love Carnell Tate as my wide receiver, too.
53:00But I don't know who I would have taken.
53:03I think I would have reached for Chris Godwin or Quentin Johnston.
53:07And I have Josh Downs. Yeah, fair enough. I have Josh Downs after that.
53:11And that was before the Keenan Allen thing. But yeah, that's I think if you start with a wide receiver.
53:17Well, I won't say that you can start with a running back.
53:21But if I had taken a wide receiver in round two, you know what?
53:25Just forget everything I said. Just take the take the value as it comes to you.
53:30I like the team. It's very top heavy, but I think I got great value in rounds four and five.
53:36Makes my receivers kind of bad, but I can deal with it.
53:40But you should have on paper best running backs in this league.
53:44If they do what they're capable of doing, you should have a top two quarterback if he's healthy.
53:49And then it's figuring out the rest of your roster.
53:52You know, I mean, Higgins is not the ideal wide receiver one, but he's close, especially if he stays healthy.
53:58I mean, like you're fine. Yeah. All right. So I guess to sum up picks four through six, you know, you can
54:05get away with going receiver, receiver, receiver. We've established that.
54:08And if you get, yeah. Yeah. I would even say it's preferred.
54:12I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. No, it's okay. I would even say it's preferred.
54:16Yeah. Loveland in round four is awesome. Trey McBride in round three is awesome.
54:20You could take Loveland in round three. If he falls to round four, that's great.
54:25Don't expect it to happen. Be pleasantly surprised if it does happen.
54:29Don't expect it to happen. All right. Picks seven through nine.
54:32We're going to end with this. I'm sorry if you have picks 10 through 12, we'll talk about that on tomorrow's show.
54:39Pick seven. I'll just say this. There's a write-up about this draft on CBS sports.com.
54:44There'll be a write-up about the draft we had last night on the site as well.
54:48By the end of the day, I had picked 12.
54:52I'm going to focus the story on picking from that spot and just what I did by going running back, running back.
54:58And we also have a pick-by-pick series on the website.
55:01Go to CBS sports.com slash fantasy. There are, there are, you might have to Google these at this point because they've been
55:08a little, they're kind of buried, I think. But we wrote articles about how to pick from every spot.
55:14And it was a, I don't know, roughly a month ago.
55:17So a lot has changed, but it's a good thing to read if you're.
55:22We're doing it again. In your draft. Oh, perfect.
55:24Yeah. All right. I think, again, when you read that, I started, I did it.
55:29Bingo. When you read that, when you read the pick-by-picks, because you may be reading something that's somewhat outdated from a player standpoint, study the strategy.
55:37Because our strategies are probably going to stay the same.
55:40Yeah, right. Not the players necessarily, but the build strategies.
55:43So that brings us to pick seven through nine.
55:46Heath, do you think pick seven, beginning at pick seven through pick 12.
55:50Running back, running back comes more into play here?
55:53Yeah, I don't generally do it. But it is, it's like, I'm simply not going to do it picks four through six or three through six.
56:01It's about as likely, I guess. It really depends on whether, a lot of my drafts, I don't see Henry and Barkley going quite this early.
56:09And they're there at the two, three turn. And so I'll take one of them there, maybe.
56:14But yeah, it's more likely. I just don't do it that often.
56:18What's your ideal start from pick seven through nine?
56:20Well, it's seven through nine is probably Taylor or McCaffrey.
56:24Although I've dropped McCaffrey now until he starts practicing again.
56:27So cancel that. Jonathan Taylor is the ideal start.
56:29And then hopefully Devon HN. But maybe if Hampton or Gentry happens to fall one of them.
56:35Okay, but I know you like Drake London a lot.
56:38So let's say you took Jonathan Taylor in round one.
56:41And Gentry, London, like a running back you really liked was there, but also Drake London was there.
56:46What are you doing? I have London ahead of Gentry and Hampton.
56:50So you will, knowing that in rounds three and four, you might like the wide receiver value better than the running back value.
56:57You're still going to take the wide receiver, Drake London, because he's just your highest ranked player there.
57:03I mean, not just because of that, but yeah, I've got a pretty big difference.
57:07I wasn't really scared off by the preseason performance of Tua.
57:11And worst case scenario, if Tua is a disaster for a month, Penix will probably be back.
57:16So yeah, I have Drake London in round one.
57:19And so if he falls to me anywhere in round two, I'm taking him.
57:23Jamie, if you have picks seven through nine and you take a running back here, but be it Taylor or Cook or
57:30McCaffrey or whatever it ends up being, Chase Brown, who has to be on the board for you in round two at
57:36wide receiver to draft a wide receiver and not go running back, running back?
57:41Lamb or Jefferson, and that's it. Okay, not London or Brown or A.J.
57:45Brown. I like Brown ahead of London, and I have...
57:48Yeah, I think those are the only two. But do you have Brown and London behind Henry and Barkley?
57:54I do. Okay. Oh, even in full PPR? Yes.
57:56Okay. I think because of the strategy involving it as well.
58:00So in round three, would you guys agree... Who would you put in...
58:04This is a massive run of wide receivers. I'm just curious, Heath.
58:08I know just how much you love Zay Flowers.
58:10You know there's a very good chance you're going to get Zay Flowers if you're picking seven in round three.
58:16Yeah. Yeah. So if you can get... Or even probably eight or nine.
58:20Like his ADP is kind of where he went in this draft.
58:24So the last pick of... Second to last pick of round three.
58:28Would you go running back, running back with the idea of I'm targeting Flowers?
58:32And maybe have a backup plan instead of... I don't have...
58:36Yeah, I just don't have a strong preference through three rounds in a PPR league of having two running backs and one
58:42wide receiver versus one running back and two wide receivers.
58:45It doesn't really matter to me. Gotcha. And so, no.
58:48I would just... I'd be thrilled that I... And I'm sure this will happen in the next month that I started with
58:55Jonathan Taylor and Drake London and Zay Flowers. All right.
58:58By the way, as far as tight ends go, we think pick seven through nine in round two, too early for Brock Bowers.
59:05You know, if McBride... If one of Bowers or McBride falls to round three, to that point in round three, Jamie would be all in.
59:13Heath would certainly take Bowers there, not McBride. But Loveland in round three, you would consider from pick seven through nine?
59:20They're... Yeah. I mean, I think they may be right around nine in round three now.
59:24So, I wouldn't... Like, if you really like Trey McBride and he's there, pick seven through nine, take him.
59:30I have McBride at 34 and Loveland at 32.
59:33So... And actually, with a Buka's toe injury, we're making the move.
59:37McBride's up to 33. So... Okay, okay. I think that's pick nine in round three.
59:41So, that's fine. Yeah. Perfect. And for me, if I had this pick, I would love to have Loveland in round four.
59:48Which ADP says is very possible. And it happened in this draft.
59:52He went 42nd overall. So, obviously, I'd love to have Bowers or McBride in round three.
59:57I just don't know that they're going to get there.
60:00But I think Loveland in round four... You guys would take Loveland in round three.
60:04I would consider it. But I would love to have Loveland in round four, I guess is what I'm saying.
60:11I think when you get to the back end of round three and you know you have the turn coming up, if
60:17you really have the, I want to get him, you get him.
60:21Sure. Because there is a massive tier of wide receivers.
60:24And that brings... Okay. So, that brings me to this point here, right?
60:28Like, if you think you're going to go with a wide receiver in round three, I don't think Rasheed Rice or Nico or Pickens will be there, whatever.
60:37Do you think, from pick seven through nine, do you think Malik Nabors could be there?
60:42And would you take him there? If he's there, yes.
60:45Do I think he could be there? Maybe. You know, if he's not practicing yet by the time you're drafting.
60:51If he's not, you know, they're still being cautious with him.
60:54I'm going to put it that way. By the time we get to the end of August, then he's going to fall to the middle of round three.
61:03Right. And I will say the other thing is, like, going back to the fact that, like, I don't have any running
61:10backs ranked in this round seven through nine range.
61:12And none of the guys I have ranked ahead of this range are going to be available.
61:18And part of the reason for that is, like, I've got a tier of running backs.
61:23And I put Javante in this tier. I know everybody seems to kind of have him on his own.
61:28But, like, A-chan, Kyron, Jacobs, Hall, Swift are all kind of the same guy for me and my projections.
61:34And a couple of those guys are going to be there in round four.
61:39So I think there's a – for me, there's a bigger drop-off from the wide receivers that are going to fall to round four generally.
61:46Not always. Looking in this draft, in round four, yeah, pretty much there was the big drop-off, at least in my projections.
61:53So I'd rather take the wide receiver in round three, and then you're going to get a good running back in round four.
62:00Interesting. I think I'd have a – I would just have a tough time passing up on Jeremiah Love and Kyron.
62:07Like, Jeremiah Love, Kyron, A-chan, I guess, if they're – actually, no.
62:10Like, there are a lot of running backs that if I'm looking at – all right, all right, here we go.
62:17Right, I'm going to say this. If the following wide receivers are off the board, Malik Neighbors, Devontae Smith, and Chris Olave.
62:24For me. Heath, I would assume Zay Flowers for you.
62:27I don't know if there's anyone else in that tier that seems like a little bit better than the next guys.
62:33Higgins? If they're – who? Higgins? Higgins? I mean, he's got a round four ADP, so I feel like I'd be able
62:40to get him in round four maybe. Same with, like, McConkie and Garrett Wilson, McMillan.
62:44Like, I would have a hard time passing up Love, Jacobs, Travis A-chan, Kyron Williams at this point in round three.
62:51You know? Like, I'll take Alave, and I'll take Devontae Smith, and I'll take Malik Neighbors over them.
62:56I don't know if – I just think there's a good chance one of them is going to be there when you pick in round four.
63:04Maybe. Especially A-chan. Well, I don't know who's going to be there.
63:08I don't think so at this point, yeah. Yeah.
63:11I'm not so confident in that, especially if I have, like, the seventh pick.
63:15There's a pretty big difference between the ninth and the seventh.
63:19You guys feel what I'm saying here? Like, how do you make the decision between running back and receiver at that point?
63:25I mean, it depends on what you did in round one.
63:29Yeah. DeHeath, you did answer it. Yes. Yes. Depends on what you did in round one.
63:34And then I think it's, you know, how comfortable do you feel with, you know, like – so you love those receivers in rounds four and five too.
63:42So, you know, if you start to get into that group of Waddle and DJ Moore and McMillan, McConkie, like, yeah, take
63:49the running back and hope that one of those receivers comes back to you if you feel so confident in those guys.
63:56But I do think to what Heath is talking about, like, there's more likely that the running back is there than some of these receivers.
64:03All right. So maybe the best way to go about this is if you have picks seven through nine in a 12-team
64:10league, and we're going to assume that there's no crazy, like, Pickens fell to me or Rasheed Rice fell to me or
64:17Nico Collins fell to me or whatever. Let's talk about the running backs and the wide receivers that you would want to
64:24be on the board from picks seven through nine and you think actually have a chance to be on the board.
64:30So let's start with running backs, the ones you would consider in round three.
64:35Who would they be? Consider in round three? From picks seven through nine in round three.
64:39Kyron, Javante, Jacobs. Love? I think back end of round three for me.
64:43Travis Achan? He's now in the conversation, yeah. Heath, which running backs would you consider there?
64:48Seven through nine? Yeah. I feel like I've answered this question.
64:52Yeah, you have, you have, you have. Okay, zero.
64:55Okay. Um, because you feel like they'll be available in the fourth round.
64:59Um, and you don't have to take. Or someone similar.
65:02I just have a, like we talked about it earlier when we were talking about those round four or five running backs
65:08that I have a bigger tier than you do.
65:11I think it's the same case with these end of round three running backs that I have a bigger tier than you do.
65:18And they're just, they're, they're pretty, very, very similar in my projections.
65:22And so I'm not going to take Kyron Williams over one of these wide receivers when I can get DeAndre Swift in the next round.
65:30Fair, fair enough. Um, which wide receivers are you hoping are like, this is your wishlist.
65:35Realistically picks seven through nine and in round three, Heath, which wide receivers are you hoping are there?
65:40So, I mean, Zay, obviously, um, you said you weren't so sure about T Higgins.
65:45Assuming that Chris Olave is no longer realistic, T Higgins would be next.
65:49I, I don't know if Devante Smith is realistic or not, but he would be, be next.
65:54And then it'd be neighbors, um, Tedro and a book.
65:57Okay. So you're definitely going to get a wide receiver.
66:00You like in round three, like that you love, I think all those guys I have ranked in the top 34 ahead
66:07of, um, my RB 13, who is Travis HN.
66:10Wow. Okay. Jamie, which, you know, for you, Adam, I think it's Mike Evans.
66:14Like for me, it's DJ more, you kind of have a feeling of like, if you think there's a player, you're going to be pretty comfortable and confident.
66:23Getting like, I take DJ more way ahead of ADP all the time.
66:27And I think you do a little bit similar with Mike Evans.
66:30Uh, but I, I mean, just to be clear, I'm not taking Evans in round three.
66:35I'm taking him in round five. I'm not talking about where you're taking him.
66:39I'm talking about, this is kind of what I was asking with Zay flowers.
66:44Like if you have like a specific player or tier, which is a better way to do it.
66:49It's certainly, if you have a tier of players, like, okay, I know I can get one of these guys a little bit early.
66:57So maybe it's McConkie for you in round three.
66:59Like, you know, his ADP is kind of round four.
67:03So McConkie in this range, like I know for me, again, it's, it's, it's more Dave is probably Jalen Waddle, you know,
67:09not to just keep associating us with the same receivers or players over and over again.
67:14But so like, if I end up sort of taking a tangent on what may be the initial strategy after the first
67:21couple of rounds, like, okay, wow, Javante Williams landed in my lap or wow, this player, you know, shouldn't be there.
67:27Or I just think that this guy's going to be fantastic.
67:31I'm taking him like Loveland. Um, I know I can come back and say, okay, I may have to reach for DJ
67:38more a little bit, but I'm comfortable enough with that because I know how good he could potentially be.
67:43Yeah, but you're not taking him in round three.
67:46I'm not talking about round three. I'm talking about what I, what I do in round three could sort of with the
67:53anticipation of, I know I'm taking a particular player way ahead of where he usually goes.
67:58That way I can guarantee myself to maybe pivot to something different in round three, knowing in round four, it may be
68:05later, you know, like if you like Parker Washington, you may take them in round five as opposed to round six or round four instead of round five.
68:13Again, for you, it might be Mike Evans. Like, okay, I went completely off the board here because this player landed in my lap.
68:21So let's just say, for example, I don't know where Mike Evans went.
68:25So you, you have a feeling about Evans, right?
68:27So let's say you take Javante and Evans had fallen to you where you took Lamar Jackson.
68:33You said it, you said it when you, when you were discussing it, like you would have taken Evans there.
68:39Probably. So what I'm getting at is like, if you have an inkling or an inclination of, cause that's where, that's ahead of where he's going right now.
68:47I mean, he doesn't go usually ahead of McLaurin.
68:50I don't know if he goes ahead of Odunze, you know?
68:54So you kind of can pivot a little bit earlier knowing like, okay, there are players.
68:59I understand. Yeah. That I know I can get around earlier, but also I'm probably not saying it the right way.
69:05There, there, it is around earlier because gravitate toward earlier than consensus earlier than ADP earlier than the rank list, because I love that player.
69:13So in this earlier round, I'm going to make a different decision.
69:16I understand. Okay. Yeah. You're already basically projecting your roster out around later or two rounds later, whatever.
69:22I understand what you're saying. Okay. So I guess just in, in, in the case of your draft, I know we're talking seven through nine, but six.
69:30So you go McCaffrey, Hampton, Higgins, Javante Evans. And because you didn't take Lamar there, maybe that pushes Drake may or burrow down to you.
69:38Yeah, maybe. Um, sure. Uh, now just to finish up this chat.
69:42Um, I think if you're picking seven through nine and round three and Devante Smith or Chris Olave or Malik neighbors for
69:48a lot of people, maybe say flowers, like there's, there could be a wide receiver that falls there.
69:54That's just awesome that you love, but maybe not.
69:57It's, it's like maybe 50, 50 at this point that one of the, that, that, that a wide receiver that you just
70:03absolutely love that you think is in a tier before the guys that are going in around four, um, is there it's,
70:10it's kind of like, um, yeah, I would say it's like a 50, 50 proposition.
70:15So yeah, you gotta be like these picks. You gotta be a little flexible.
70:19Um, in terms of, am I going to get that top 12 running back around two?
70:24Am I going to get that wide receiver? I love it round three.
70:28Hopefully the board falls through the right way. Uh, but you're kind of like on the cusp of different tiers in my opinion, at least.
70:36And then let's just, I guess let's take a look.
70:39We'll finish off with the builds here. Dave had pick seven, Jake pick eight, James pick nine.
70:44So Dave goes Taylor a Chan. Jake goes St.
70:47Brown, Ken Walker, James goes Henry Barkley. So amongst those three teams, five running backs and one wide receiver in this range here, Taylor a Chan for Dave.
70:55He goes Taylor a Chan a Buka. He probably wouldn't do that now.
70:59Um, that could be a lot. That could be a different wide receiver, whatever, but Taylor HN a Buka Loveland, McLaurin, Brian Thomas, Jr.
71:07Jonathan Brooks is his RB three. So to go running back, running back, and then to take three receivers and a tight end.
71:14And then Jonathan Brooks is your RB three. That's not bad at all.
71:18Um, Jake went St. Brown, Kenneth Walker, Brees Hall in round three.
71:22And then Jay, and then his RB three is Rico Dowdle.
71:25He has Jalen Waddle, Christian Watson, Drake may. Um, I guess I'm, yeah, I don't know that there's like major takeaway there.
71:32So it's St. Brown, Kenneth Walker, Brees Hall. Jalen Waddle.
71:35This is from the eighth spot in the draft.
71:38Christian Watson, Drake may Rico Dowdle, George Kittle. And then the ninth pick was Henry and then Barkley.
71:43That's a risky duo. I kind of older guys that don't catch passes, but also exciting.
71:48Uh, Henry Barkley, Olave. Great pick. I don't know if it's realistic.
71:52Now at 33, Devante Adams, Romo, Dunze, Jaden Daniels, Alec Pierce, Chuba Hubbard.
71:56All right. My final takeaway here, guys, from these three teams is that they, all three of them either have two running
72:03backs with their first two picks or two running backs with their first three picks.
72:07And they don't take another running back until round seven or eight.
72:11Um, Heath, does that feel like a decent way to build a team?
72:15I strongly agree with the, if you take two running backs with your first three picks, don't take a running back for
72:22the next three, two or three to four rounds.
72:24So that I, I probably like that part maybe necessarily more than I do the, the two running backs in the first three picks.
72:32But listen, the, the, the, the, the Henry Barkley thing is a little bit unusual for our drafts and the breeze hall there in round three.
72:40I was the only one who wanted to do that.
72:43And now I don't until he's healthy. So I, like I, but yeah, I, I like Dave's start a lot, except for
72:50the fact that a book has got a turf toe now too.
72:53Just replace the names with the different players. Right.
72:56Yeah. I put Zay or Olave in there and I think Dave's bill is, is the best of the group and, and one that I really like.
73:04Right. So James, James could be James Cook and Barkley or, you know, like he said, you know, replace a book, a book with flowers.
73:12Like there's, there's different ways to approach it again.
73:15This, a lot of times when we're looking at old drafts, which again, a week ago, we're looking at old drafts.
73:21So much has changed and so much has changed here.
73:24And I want you to take a look at those three teams and the way they built their rosters with two running
73:31backs early, whether it's rounds one and two rounds, one and two or rounds two and three.
73:36And compare it to my team picking six, where I was not expecting to have three running backs with my first four picks.
73:43And I was not certainly not expecting to have one wide receiver with my first five picks, but I played the value.
73:50I just couldn't pass up Javante and four and Lamar in round five and take a look at what you like better.
73:57Do you hate my wide receivers so much? You're just so uncomfortable with them that, that you think I don't want to build it that way.
74:05It's perfectly fine. Or, you know, do you like my top five picks enough to say, whatever, we'll make up for it.
74:12Um, you know, with waiver wire or whatever. Um, so just, just questions for you.
74:16And again, maybe I could have taken a different wide receiver instead of Carnell Tate, like Godwin or Quentin Johnston.
74:23Um, that's the question that you need to be asking yourself as you look at these builds.
74:28And if you're just listening to the episode, I strongly recommend watching on, even if you don't want to watch the full
