Baker Mayfield

PositiveValue44:19

Ayo ranks Mayfield 8th for MVP at 50-1, favoring him over Murray and Jones due to the soft NFC South and the Bucs' potential to contend for the 1-seed. Ayo notes Mayfield is a 'media darling' who has proven he can produce high-end stats.

Insight page

Bo Nix

NegativeProjection14:04

Nix is considered a 1% candidate for MVP. While he led the league in passing attempts and had seven game-winning drives last year, Brandon Anderson warns of regression risk because game-winning drives are not a sustainable metric to rely on. Additionally, the Broncos face a brutal opening schedule.

Insight page

Brock Purdy

PositiveProjection47:05

Ayo ranks Purdy 7th at 20-1, citing his consistent 7% touchdown rate and potential to be the 'glue' for a 49ers team dealing with injuries to stars like McCaffrey and Bosa. Ayo views him as a legitimate 1-seed contender.

Insight page
NegativeValue70:46

Brock Purdy is currently priced at 17-to-1 for MVP, which is considered an insulting comparison to Patrick Mahomes' odds.

Insight page

C.J. Stroud

NegativeProjection15:33

Stroud is viewed as a 1% MVP candidate. Despite the expectation that Houston's defense will be elite, Stroud has not demonstrated the high-end statistical production required for MVP, having never exceeded 23 passing touchdowns or ranked in the top 20 in EPA per play.

Insight page

Caleb Williams

NegativeProjection18:16

Williams is a 2% MVP candidate. He has struggled with efficiency, ranking 25th in EPA per play, and has yet to hit 4,000 yards or 30 touchdowns. The Bears' run-heavy scheme under Ben Johnson may help the team win, but it historically limits the quarterback's individual MVP-level statistical output.

Insight page
NegativeValue70:46

Caleb Williams is currently priced at 17-to-1 for MVP, which is considered an insulting comparison to Patrick Mahomes' odds.

Insight page

Dak Prescott

NegativeProjection48:38

Ayo ranks Prescott 6th at 14-1, noting his strong EPA and weapons, but expresses concern about the Cowboys' tough schedule and the tendency for the team to collapse in high-profile games. Ayo is okay with the price but sees better plays elsewhere.

Insight page

Daniel Jones

PositiveValue41:43

Tony Ayo ranks Jones 10th for MVP at 150-1, noting his strong 2023 pace (4,400 yards, 37 TDs) before injury. While the schedule (Ravens, Chiefs, Texans) is daunting, Ayo suggests the price might get longer, making him a potential add to a portfolio later.

Insight page

Drake Maye

NegativeProjection51:56

Ayo ranks May 5th at 11-1, acknowledging his talent but warning against betting him now due to a daunting early schedule (Seattle, Steelers, Jaguars, Bills). Ayo expects regression from his high efficiency last year and suggests waiting for a better price.

Insight page
NegativeProjection60:25

Drake Maye is categorized in the second tier of MVP candidates alongside Josh Allen and Joe Burrow, with each assigned approximately a 6% chance of winning.

Insight page

Jalen Hurts

PositiveProjection15:56

Hurts is a 1% MVP candidate. Brandon Anderson notes that Hurts has never thrown for 4,000 yards or 25 touchdowns in a season, his rushing value is fading, and the loss of AJ Brown combined with an aging offensive line makes a breakout MVP campaign unlikely this year.

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

NegativeProjection17:45

Daniels is a 2% MVP candidate. While he showed high value as a rookie, he lacks the supporting cast—specifically a strong offensive line, proven weapons, or a reliable defense—to reach the 13-14 win threshold required for an MVP season.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeValue57:16

Ayo ranks Burrow 3rd at 10-1, noting that while he likes the scheme improvements and offensive line, the current price already reflects that optimism. Ayo plans to target Burrow later in the season for his favorable November/December schedule.

Insight page
NegativeValue60:00

Joe Burrow is considered a viable MVP candidate, but the current 10-to-1 odds are not an optimal entry point; it is better to wait for a more favorable price later in the season.

Insight page

Jordan Love

NegativeValue32:56

Despite Jordan Love's strong EPA metrics, Tony Ayo advises against betting him for MVP. The Packers have a bottom-five offensive line, no clear run game with Josh Jacobs out, and questions surrounding their receiving corps and defense. Love lacks the voter history/reputation to win, and Ayo believes the team's overall lack of elite status prevents Love from being a viable MVP candidate.

Insight page

Josh Allen

NegativeProjection54:18

Ayo ranks Allen 4th at +650, calling him the most valuable player to his team but noting his stats have declined under Joe Brady's run-heavy scheme. Ayo is concerned about the Bills' defense and a difficult opening schedule, making him a 'no bet' for now.

Insight page
NegativeValue60:25

Josh Allen is priced higher than the combined cost of betting on both Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, making him a less attractive value proposition for MVP betting.

Insight page

Justin Herbert

NegativeValue21:06

Tony Ayo labels Justin Herbert at 10-to-1 odds as the single worst MVP bet on the board. He cites a lack of proven interior offensive line, a rookie center, an unknown offensive scheme, and a new defensive coordinator. Herbert has failed to hit 4,000 yards in three seasons or 30 passing touchdowns in four, and he ranked 20th in EPA per play last year. Additionally, the Chargers face a brutal mid-season schedule gauntlet from weeks three through nine.

Insight page

Kenneth Walker III

PositiveUsage67:10

Kenneth Walker is expected to contribute to a more balanced Chiefs offense, helping to restore the run game that was missing in previous seasons.

Insight page

Kyler Murray

PositiveProjection43:21

Ayo ranks Murray 9th for MVP at 50-1, arguing he has his best ecosystem yet with a potential top-10 line and top-5 weapons. Despite never hitting 4,000 yards or 27 TDs, Ayo believes KOC's scheme could boost his touchdown production.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

PositiveValue60:45

Lamar Jackson is a top MVP pick at 11-to-1 odds, representing a significant buy-low opportunity compared to his previous 550 price; he benefits from a soft early schedule and a history of winning MVP in years with new offensive coordinators.

Insight page

Matthew Stafford

NegativeValue10:45

Stafford is the reigning MVP, but he faces a major historical hurdle as only five players have ever won back-to-back MVPs, and none have done so in the modern era except Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning. Brandon Anderson notes that while Stafford was a successful 50-to-1 pick last year, the statistical improbability of a repeat makes him a poor bet this season.

Insight page
NegativeValue26:45

Tony Ayo argues against betting Matthew Stafford to repeat as MVP, noting that back-to-back MVPs are historically rare. Stafford's 7.7% touchdown rate last year was an outlier compared to his 4% average over the previous three years. Furthermore, the Rams' high expectations and strong supporting cast mean Stafford doesn't need to be the 'most valuable' player for the team to win, and a difficult early schedule including a game in Australia creates high risk for early-season losses.

Insight page

Patrick Mahomes

PositiveValue60:50

Patrick Mahomes is a primary MVP target at 17-to-1 odds, which is viewed as an extreme market overreaction to last year's 6-11 record; he is projected to regress positively in one-score games and benefits from a more balanced offense with an improved offensive line.

Insight page

Trevor Lawrence

NegativeProjection23:49

While Trevor Lawrence showed promise in the final seven games of last season, Tony Ayo warns of significant regression signals. The late-season surge came against a weak schedule (Arizona, Tennessee, Indianapolis, Jets, Denver). The Jaguars have a bottom-three offensive line, lack a run game, and face a difficult opening schedule including neutral-site 'home' games in London against Philly and Houston.

Insight page

Ty Simpson

NegativeDepth Chart28:02

The Rams drafted Ty Simpson, which Tony Ayo suggests could allow the team to rest Matthew Stafford for a week or two if he deals with his recurring back injury.

2:37Alright. That is the ultimate kibosh. You wanna bet?
2:40And we are underway! Welcome to the Action Network Podcast, presented by DraftKings.
2:44I'm Gilles Gallant, and I'm joined as always by NFL betting expert and futures analyst, Brandon Anderson.
2:49Now, if you've been listening to the Action Network Podcast over the last couple of weeks, Brandon, we've ranked every position on the field.
2:56Offense, defense, head coaches. We've given out best bets for every NFL player award, but today, we got the big one.
3:03Most valuable player in the NFL. We're gonna be giving out analysis and best bets for that today.
3:08And if you wanna listen to the other player award bets that we've made, you can go check those out on the Action Network Podcast feed.
3:16So, Brandon, before we get into MVP best bets, there's a historical profile and traits that you kind of look for in this.
3:23And then you also have some rules. So let's start with just some of the historical profile of what you look for to identify key MVP candidates.
3:31Yeah, so I've got six rules. Then we're gonna go through them all here.
3:35I know we're gonna get to all the names.
3:38I promise you. We've got 19 guys we'll talk through name by name.
3:42We got the odds for each one. We'll get my pick at the end.
3:46We'll get the picks I'm not taking and why not all along the way.
3:50But I do think it's important. You wanna listen to this first 10 minutes or so as we kind of list off
3:57the profile, the rules, and why it's gonna inform why we got to the spot on all the rest of these.
4:03So, I give us the names on the most recent MVP is just to set us up here.
4:08And then I will jump into our rules from there.
4:11Well, Matthew Stafford, I think we have to start right there because you crush that pick 50 to one last year.
4:18That's the reigning MVP now. So, hell of a long shot by you.
4:22But some of the most recent winners, obviously, we saw Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers won a couple, Lamar Jackson won another one as well.
4:30So, I'm kind of sensing a theme here is a lot of familiar names at the top.
4:35So, the six rules. And to me, I think it just starts off with the fact that if we're looking at MVP, you start with quarterback.
4:43Yeah, absolutely. Rule number one is an easy one.
4:45Quarterbacks win MVP. 18 of our last 19 MVPs are quarterbacks.
4:49That is since 2007. That's the Tom Brady 16 and 0 asterisk season.
4:53That's that year. Why that year? Because the year before, the last two MVPs was Sean Alexander, LaDainian Tomlinson with 27 and 28 rushing touchdowns.
5:00We're in a different era now. So, that's why we're counting that.
5:0418 of our last 19. The only exception, of course, Adrian Peterson, who almost broke the all-time rushing record.
5:09So, unless you set all-time records elsewhere, and even if you do, you're still probably not MVP.
5:15It's a quarterbacks award. We are not even going to talk about any names, any other position.
5:20You want to talk about B. John and Jameer Gibbs and Jamar Chase?
5:24Excellent! We covered them on the Offensive Player of the Year podcast.
5:27Go listen to that one. Talk about all those names there.
5:30It is quarterbacks only. Rule number two. We love MVP repeat winners.
5:34That's why I wanted you to give those names at the top.
5:38We heard Rodgers twice. Not as long ago as it seems.
5:41We heard Lamar Jackson twice. We heard Patrick Mahomes twice.
5:44The same names keep coming up. Two Lamar, two Mahomes, four Rodgers in the last 19 years, three Paytons, three Bradys.
5:50That is 14 out of 19 years to five dudes.
5:5374% of the MVPs over almost two decades, five dudes.
5:56So the same guys keep winning because they're the most valuable, because we all agree they're the best players and it's what's happening.
6:03That means the average MVP age is about 30 years old because a lot of these guys keep winning even as they age.
6:10And if you even go further back, the last 37 MVPs, 24 of the 37, so about two thirds are nine guys.
6:17Like 37, that is almost my entire lifetime. It's Lamar, Pat, Rodgers, Brady, Payton, Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, Steve Young, Joe Montana.
6:23That's it. That is two thirds of the MVPs in nearly my lifetime.
6:27We love repeat winners, but rule number two, part B, not back to back MVP winners.
6:32We only ever had five back to back winners, only Rodgers and Payton this century.
6:36So that's really unlikely when we have two thirds of all MVPs in four decades going to the same nine guys, but never in a row like that.
6:45That is really statistically improbable. And that is really bad news right off the top for our friend, Matthew Stafford.
6:51So that's our first rule one and two and two B any thoughts on that before I keep pushing.
6:57No, the only thing I was going to mention, you're right about Aaron Rodgers.
7:01It doesn't, it feels like so far long ago, but again, winning back to back in 2020 and 2021.
7:06But since then a new quarterback winning each year, even though they might be in the top three or top four of
7:13voting, I still think it's important to note that outside of that Aaron Rodgers earlier, I mean, you're, you're looking at basically
7:20going back to like Peyton Manning times back in the late aughts.
7:23Right. So, um, the other thing I was going to ask too, is obviously we see the familiar names, but it's not
7:30just a, all they went 13 games. They're automatically in contention.
7:33There has to be some legit statistical background with that, whether that be, you know, reading and passing yards, passing touchdowns, all that stuff.
7:40So I I'd imagine one of your rules has to be that there has to be some legit statistical production from this quarterback.
7:47Yeah. You need the stats and you need the wins.
7:50You set me up. Well, rule number three, we need some serious statistical production.
7:54Here are the average quarterback stats during those 18 quarterbacks.
7:57We just said just under 4,400 passing yards, just over 40 touchdowns, eight interceptions.
8:02And remember that's a lot at a 16 game pace in there.
8:05So 17 game pace. We're looking more like 4,600 43, nine interceptions.
8:09That's something like 275 yards and two and a half touchdowns a game.
8:13So look, I know that doesn't seem like so much.
8:16We all play fantasy every game. That is a lot.
8:19Matt Stafford last year, 4,746. So basically right on the money for that statistical model.
8:2312 of 18 of our quarterbacks hit an outlier touchdown rate on their winning season.
8:28We can't predict outliers. That is the point of outliers, but it's a good thing to notice as the season is going on.
8:35We saw Stafford get a lot of those. He gave me one yard touchdowns to Devonta Adams last year, right?
8:41We got the red zone target, a lot of freebies.
8:44We see, you know, Jalen Hurts get the one yard tush push touchdowns.
8:48However you get there, you're getting there. Josh Allen got some of those as well the year that he won.
8:53Touchdowns matter. Stats matter. Interceptions do matter and not as huge as you would think.
8:58Six of our 18 guys did have double digit interceptions.
9:01So 10 or 12 is not necessarily disqualifying, but only one MVP above that in the stretch.
9:06So you need the stats. You got to produce.
9:09And like you said, rule number four, you need to win.
9:12Like you need to really win a lot of wins.
9:15Again, we know this. These are not shocking rules.
9:18We know what MVP is. And this is the narrative portion, right?
9:21So our 18 Super Bowl quarter or MVP quarterbacks went to combine 239 and 54.
9:26That is an 82% win rate, effectively a 14 win pace in the 17 game season.
9:3114 wins. That's a lot of wins. You are the one seed 13 times out of those 18, 72%.
9:36You are the two seed three times. So only twice in 18 years has an MVP not been the first or the second seed.
9:44Now, caveat, Stafford is one of those two. I don't know that Stafford should have been the MVP last year.
9:50I'm happy he was. He cashed our ticket. Peyton Manning 08, who I think is actually one of the more bad recent MVP choices.
9:57Winning matters. You got to be a top two seed in all likelihood.
10:01You got to win 13, 14 games. This is an individual award, but is a team accomplishment.
10:06You got to do the thing, but you need help.
10:09And that part matters. That's why some of these guys are going to end up lower than we think.
10:14All right. Rule number five, unless you're an elite proven quarterback, long shots actually tend to dominate this.
10:20So Stafford 50 to one for us. Then he was 40 to one to start this season.
10:25Big surprise, but not unusual to get tickets like that.
10:28Eight of the last 11 MVPs started the season 11 to one or longer.
10:32So Allen a couple of years ago is an exception to that as a favorite.
10:37Mahomes and Brady had one. Otherwise, the other eight recent MVPs have not been the top names on the vanilla.
10:43That's only like three, four or five guys. But effectively, if you're betting someone 10 to one or less, they either better
10:49be the best quarterback, Allen or Brady or Mahomes.
10:52You probably shouldn't be betting that. So buyer beware.
10:55Looking at the odds board, Joe Burrow, Drake May, Justin Herber.
10:58We'll get to those guys in a bit, but pretty short prices for guys that have not proven they're that that level of guys.
11:05And then last rule, rule number six, advanced metrics are great MVP predictor, but only in season.
11:10EPA per play is what I'm supposed to be looking at here.
11:1415 of our last 18 MVPs finished top two in EPA per play.
11:18And again, Matt Stafford is an exception here. So what do you do when you get an exception to the rules?
11:24Do you say the rules are out, throw them out the window?
11:28Or do you say, well, happy we got the exception, right?
11:31Thanks for giving us our ticket. Let's still stick to the plan.
11:35And you know, I'm going to stick to the plan here.
11:38So eight of the last 13 MVPs were literally the number one EPA per play quarterback.
11:43Now, we don't know who's going to be number one EPA per play, but how they've been in recent years can be helpful for that.
11:50Were you 18th or were you 8th? It's a lot closer to get the first if you're 8th and if you're 18th.
11:57So good thing to watch in season. So to summarize, here's what we need.
12:01This is an individual award, but a team accomplishment.
12:04We need a quarterback that can win 13, 14 games that can take a run at the one seed.
12:09And we need some serious stats, 4,500 yards, 40 touchdowns, quarterbacks only.
12:13That's where we start. Okay. All right. So six rules that we need to abide by here when betting MVP.
12:19With that in mind, let's start getting into the rankings of basically you, like you said, you had 19 quarterbacks that you're looking at for this award.
12:27And you have them broken down in tiers. I'm going to break down these tiers with you here in a minute.
12:33But how do we go about this process? Like give us a little bit of an intro before we start talking about the players.
12:41Yeah. So like I said, no running backs, no receivers.
12:44We're not going to mention their names anymore unless it's in the context of a quarterback.
12:48Go listen to the Offensive Player of the Year podcast.
12:51We got you covered there. And with all due respect or whatever amount of respect we'd like to give them, Super Bowl champion, Sam Darnold.
12:59That's your name being mentioned. Four-time MVP, Aaron Rodgers.
13:02No time anything, Jared Goff. We're not doing every quarterback in every name either.
13:06So that's it for a few of those names.
13:08I have narrowed it. I'm basically giving those guys 0%.
13:11Sorry about it. We can do that podcast a different day.
13:15I've narrowed it down to 19 guys. And really, when we get to it, seven truly serious candidates.
13:20Guys I'm at like 4% or 5% or higher.
13:23We're going to do this reverse order in tiers, 19 down to one.
13:27We'll give you a percentage likely to win in each tier.
13:30We'll talk about the guys along the way. We'll talk about can they win, but should we bet it?
13:36And should we bet it now? Or do we bet it later?
13:39What are the long shots to look at? And then, of course, I will give my MVP pick at the end.
13:46So that's the setup. Seven tiers, 19 names. Let's go.
13:49All right. Tier seven, you've called this one. Thank you for including my name.
13:53And you've given each one of these guys, there are three guys in this tier, a 1% chance to win MVP.
13:59So let's talk about the 1%ers here. At number 19, you have Bo Nix at 35 to 1.
14:0418, you have CJ Stroud at 60 to 1.
14:07And number 17, Jalen Hurts, 35 to 1. Okay.
14:10So 1%, I mean, given the implied probability, that's essentially 100 to 1.
14:14So those odds do not reflect that. But odds aside, just talk to me about the quarterback play in general of why
14:20you think they have 1% or no chance at all to win.
14:24Yeah, it's interesting. I think as much as MVP feels unpredictable, there really are only like 7 to 15 guys that can
14:31win this thing on any given year. And that means that the odds are wrong at the top sometimes, but also wrong in the middle and the bottom.
14:39Like they're just not long enough for some of these.
14:42Kind of similar to when you do defensive players.
14:45Like they're really only this handful of guys that can win.
14:48I just don't think these guys are in that handful.
14:51So Bo Nix did lead the league in passing attempts last year and he had seven game-winning drives.
14:56That's a pretty good MVP thing that see you walking down the field to win those games.
15:01But that's also exactly why we're scared of regression for this team, because you can't count on those game-winning drives.
15:07We've talked a lot about Jalen Waddell. Love that guy.
15:10Talked about Davis Webb, the new play caller. There is some unknown upside here.
15:15That's frankly why he jumped above those names I just said and made it into the last name on my list.
15:21I think there is some upside, but the six games they have to start the year, brutal opening schedule.
15:27So even if there's something there, it's a later for me.
15:30CJ Stroud, his case is what we all know about Houston.
15:33The defense is going to be great. What if the offense is fine?
15:37Can we get CJ Stroud in the offense to fine?
15:40Maybe we can, but even in that Houston one seed scenario, I don't know if Stroud is going to be your MVP.
15:47He's never been anywhere near the stats. Career-high 23 passing touchdowns.
15:50Barely even top 20 by EPA. Just not close here.
15:53And then Hurts, look, we've done our Jalen Hurts thing.
15:56You're going to get the tush-push stats. You're going to get some untapped upside potentially with Sean Mannion in the offense.
16:02He's never thrown for 4,000 yards in his career.
16:05He's never gotten over 25 passing touchdowns. The rushing value is fading.
16:09And then this of all years, you lose AJ Brown.
16:12You get the unknown offense. We're talking about middle of the field where we know it doesn't throw.
16:17The line is getting old and starting to fade a little bit.
16:21Why this year? Why would this be the year you want to get a Jalen Hurts ticket?
16:26So you're welcome. Hurts, Stroud, and Nix. You made the podcast.
16:29This is as far as you go. Yeah, I mean, out of the three, I think of anybody that you could see
16:36their odds shortened after a couple results is definitely Jalen Hurts.
16:39Just because if the Eagles defense plays up to its potential and they take care of a couple of games, that 35-1 could shrink down to, say, 20-1.
16:47But even then, I'm not sure if I'm going to feel great about that at this stage.
16:52All right, let's move to Tier 6. You've got two guys in this tier.
16:57You've called the tier, even if you're ready, your team isn't.
17:00And you've given each of these guys a 2% chance to win the NFL MVP in 2026.
17:05At number 16, you have Jaden Daniels at 25-1.
17:08And at number 15, you have Caleb Williams at 17-1.
17:11Both from the same draft. It seems like they kind of always seem to get compared to one another.
17:16A lot of people, I think, when Washington was going to the conference championship were wondering if Caleb Williams could make that
17:23kind of jump, and he kind of did this year.
17:26But I think I'm kind of with you in a sense.
17:29It just seems almost like it's too soon, right?
17:32It does seem too soon, or at least it seems like it's not this year for these guys.
17:37We have seen some sophomore and junior quarterbacks win this award before.
17:41Not as often as the narrative is, but it's really the team situation here.
17:45With Jaden Daniels, I don't know if I look back.
17:48I think I actually had him top five on my ballot as a rookie.
17:52I don't get to actually vote, but I think he would have been in the mixer.
17:57He was that good and that valuable. So we know he can do this, but no Laramie Tunsil on the line.
18:03Unknown offense, unknown play calling, not great weapons around him, bad defense.
18:07This is a team award. I don't want to invest in the commanders.
18:11They're not getting the 13 or 14 wins. They need a couple years to get to that amount.
18:16So that's not it for him. Caleb Williams, you know, they could get those wins.
18:21We've seen with him the hype after the playoffs.
18:24We saw the highlight plays. Obviously, both these guys can look like MVPs in moments.
18:28We talked about eat your vegetables, Caleb Williams. Can you do that?
18:32Because he's only 25th in EPA per play so far in his career.
18:36Obviously improved last year, but he's yet to hit 4,000 yards.
18:39He's yet to hit 30 touchdowns. Obviously, Bears fans know that would make you like the all-time great season for Chicago Bears quarterbacks.
18:46It's a run heavy team and it's a Ben Johnson team.
18:49And that helps because it makes the Bears better.
18:52It doesn't help you become MVP. We've seen Ben Johnson quarterback Jared Goff put up all the awesome numbers and wins and not really get the consideration.
19:00And look, Caleb Williams is not Jared Goff, but that is a caveat.
19:04And then, of course, I think I'm a little more bullish on the Bears defense than most are.
19:09But even I have a lot of skepticism there.
19:12And look, the bad defense might mean you got to throw the ball a whole lot of times.
19:17And maybe you think that helps, but you got to win games still.
19:21I don't know that this defense and this young offense is quite ready for that leap yet.
19:26So it's not necessarily that Caleb or Daniels couldn't do it.
19:30It's that I don't think they can do it in this spot on this team.

20:09All right, let's move now to tier five. You have four guys in this tier, four quarterbacks rather, want to clarify.
20:15And each of them are at 3% chance to win MVP.
20:18At number 14, Justin Herbert at 10 to 1.
20:21Number 13, Trevor Lawrence at 25 to 1. Number 12, reigning MVP Matthew Stafford at 14 to 1.
20:27And number 11, Jordan Love at 22 to 1.
20:29So this is where we get a little spicy.
20:32So when we did the quarterback rankings together, I would argue that, not even argue, you had all three of these guys in your top 10.
20:40I believe Matthew Stafford you had just outside maybe 13 or 14.
20:43No, Stafford, I think I actually got up to like eighth this year.
20:47I believe Lawrence was maybe at 11 just outside.
20:50But you're right. These guys are all up there in the quarterback rankings.
20:54It's just for me, it's the title here is important.
20:57No way. Not at that price. Not right now.
21:00And we'll talk about why I've reached one of the guys.
21:03Yeah, I forgot I bullied you into the Stafford love there for near the end.
21:07All right. Let's start with Justin Herbert, because if you just looked at sportsbook odds across the board, he's anywhere from third, maybe even fourth in MVP odds.
21:16So and given the love that you've given the Chargers like in different rankings, whether it be their offensive line or defense.
21:22I think I was just surprised to see Justin Herbert at 14th.
21:26Make the case. Yeah, I'm going to come in hot on this one.
21:30Justin Herbert 10 to 1 is the single worst MVP bet on the board entering the new season.
21:35That's it. That's the guy. Listing Herbert top five and MVP odds is nothing but pure wish casting at this point.
21:42He has no interior offensive line proven yet. He's taken snaps from a rookie quarterback or a rookie center.
21:47I should say that we haven't seen out there unknown offense that we like, but we don't know what it's going to look like yet.
21:55We don't know what the balance will be. We don't know how it's going to work or how long it'll take for them to figure it out.
22:03New defense, new defensive coordinator from a defense that probably got more than its parts from Jesse Minto last year.
22:09And now he's gone. Justin Herbert has not hit 4,000 yards in three seasons.
22:13He's not thrown 30 passing touchdowns in four seasons.
22:16We need above and beyond both of those numbers.
22:18He was 20th in EPA per play last year.
22:2120th. We need number one, probably, or close to that.
22:24He's barely even top 15 over the last three years.
22:27And, and I know this is going to not matter for MVP, he's been terrible in his playoff career.
22:33And I do think that that sticks in voters' minds a little bit.
22:37And it matters because those are the games against your top opponents.
22:40And I always look at schedule with these guys because look at the Chargers.
22:44They start out with two pretty easy games. And then here's week three through nine, no skips in here.
22:50At Buffalo, at Seattle, Denver, at Kansas City, at the Rams, Houston, at Baltimore.
22:54That is a gauntlet. This is the worst price on the guy that you can buy right now.
23:00I'm not telling you he can't win it. The guys in this tier, they can win it.
23:05I'm telling you at 10 to one, he is the worst MVP bet you can make right now to start the season.
23:11Yeah, that stretch you just brought up. That's, that might be the hardest stretch for any team outside of the Rams, like
23:18their first five games that they have to do as well.
23:21So yeah, we'll talk more about Stafford here in a second.
23:25But yeah, Herbert just catching shrapnel from you, especially given like how glowingly you spoke about him when we did the quarterback rankings.
23:32And, you know, and that makes sense because again, Justin Herbert, even though he doesn't have the, the, the box score stats
23:38from an analytical standpoint, he's been a darling in all of those circles pretty much since he's come into the league.
23:44Another one that's starting to get a little bit of buzz as well on that front is Trevor Lawrence.
23:50You know, new offensive system with Liam Cohen looked pretty decent last year.
23:54It looked like he was coming on a little bit in the second half last year, especially with some of the rushing prowess.
24:01Um, what, what is the reason why we want to cross him off here?
24:05Is it just as simple as odds or like, talk to me about this.
24:09Yeah. So the case for Lawrence is pretty simple.
24:12You look back, you mentioned how well he finished the end of last season.
24:16Here's the final seven games. If you look at just those seven games and pace it out to whole season, 4,500 passing
24:23yards and 44 touchdowns, just passing plus 10 rushing touchdowns.
24:26So that's a 54 touchdown season and 4,500 yards.
24:29That's MVP numbers. No doubt about it. His EPA per play 19th over the last three years jumped to third in the league during that stretch.
24:36You can make a good case that that is the leap into MVP contention, that that is what happened there.
24:42Here's the counter case. Here's the schedule from those seven games.
24:46Now think back to last year, Arizona, Tennessee, Indianapolis, after they didn't have a quarterback, the Jets at Denver, the only good
24:52game on the schedule stretch, Indianapolis again, Tennessee again.
24:55So there's one real game on there and he was good in that game, but there is a lot of regression signal
25:02for this team, especially on defense with the turnovers.
25:04This was a bottom three offensive line in our ranks.
25:07This is a team that does not have a run game right now.
25:11Now there's not a lot of help for Trevor Lawrence and you don't get to play the Cardinals and Titans and Jets
25:18and the corpse of the Colts every week. You've got to play a whole season now.
25:23So schedule again, tough opening stretch. Browns week one.
25:25That sounds nice at Denver, New England at Cincy.
25:28Then the back to back in London, Philly and Houston.
25:31Those are tough London games. And by the way, those are quote home games for the Jaguars.
25:36So they lose what would have been home games against Philly and Houston to neutral site and actually only have six true
25:43home games as a team this season because of that.
25:46So that's a rough opening stretch. I love Cohen.
25:48I think Lawrence is trending up. This is a team I want to invest in long term.
25:53But with that schedule and what the skepticism about last year is too many reasons to not believe comparatively for right now.
26:00Yeah. And I, I kind of like, again, I looked at the data more than I was looking at the opponent data
26:07and I kind of forgot how much of a Washington general schedule they had here in the second half.
26:12But, but so Lawrence, we'll leave it there. 25 to one.
26:16You have them at about 3% chance to actually win MVP.
26:19Now, somebody who did win MVP with much longer odds was last year, Matthew Stafford at 50 to one.
26:25But down to 14 to one now coming into this year, we talked about, we don't like back to backs, you know,
26:31but again, from a statistical profile, it looks almost easy that he could check some of these benchmarks, like the 40 touchdowns, 4,000 yards.
26:38What are we missing with Stafford and why you would not want to rebet him again, given what we're entering the 2026 season?
26:45Yeah. Can Matt Stafford MVP? Yes, he just did.
26:48The case closed. Like that is a pretty easy answer for us.
26:52And now the Rams are better, right? Now the Rams are the clear Super Bowl favorites.
26:56They are, you know, like almost a field goal better than any other team in my metrics going into the season.
27:03So they're the best team, best player, best team, MVP case closed.
27:06Like that's how you do this in a lot of sports, a lot of the time.
27:11And if you want to be right, maybe that's the one you want to pick, but we're not trying to be right.
27:18We're trying to win money. And I didn't really even believe my own Stafford case last year.
27:23I wouldn't have voted for him myself. I don't think that he was the right MVP.
27:28My wall is happy to be wrong in that scenario.
27:31And I don't think he's the right bet for this year.
27:34MVPs do not go back to back. That's just not what has happened in history.
27:38Only five guys have ever done it because in part you win MVP in an outlier season.
27:43And Matt Stafford just had his outlier season. I talk about touchdown rate here because touchdowns are an easy way to get there.
27:50He had been at 4% touchdown rate the previous three years.
27:54He jumped to 7.7 last year. So he almost doubled his touchdowns per throw last year.
27:58And that back injury is always looming. It's always a chance.
28:02And look, this year they drafted Ty Simpson. If he gets a little something something, they might let him rest for a week or two.
28:09They could probably survive with Simpson and all the rest of the weapons on offense and on defense, obviously, as well.
28:16Well, this is a weird spot where like, and this is why I didn't think he was my MVP last year either.
28:22Already last year, I thought the team was so good.
28:25He didn't have to be the most valuable player because he had so much value around him.
28:30And now we added all those defensive guys and have the healthier offense as well.
28:35You don't have to be MVP to have the Rams win.
28:38You can just hand the ball off to your historic run game or your defense might win a game or maybe Puka makes some plays.
28:46Like there's so many things that win on this team.
28:49You don't have to be that valuable to win.
28:51We need you to be valuable. Like it's almost like a discredit to Stafford, but a credit to the Rams in that sense.
28:58And two, expectations are so sky high for this team going in.
29:02You can kind of only disappoint at that point.
29:04Like you have to be like a 15 or 16 win team to impress us if you're the Rams.
29:10Anything short of that is unimpressive. And you talked about the schedule already.
29:14Obviously, opening week one, San Francisco, that is a home divisional game that you lose as a home game.
29:20But more importantly, you are playing in Australia with no rest after that.
29:24And then you come back and face the Giants.
29:26We'll see if Giants can handle anything there. But then you still don't get any rest.
29:31You go there to at Denver and we know how hard it is to play in the elevation.
29:37Your bodies still are recovering at Philly and Buffalo.
29:39That is possibly two or three losses your first five games of the season.
29:43And if you're betting Stafford, you need this to go perfect because that's the expectation for the Rams that I'm not saying
29:50they have to go 17 and no. If he goes 17 and no, he's going to be your MVP again.
29:56But I don't want to bet on that. And I want to bet it at 14 to one.
30:01There's too many Rams to credit here. There's just it's an easy no at this price and get all the way out
30:08with top five, top seven, all-time quarterback. How about be top five or top seven for a couple of seasons?
30:14How about do that, Matt Stafford? And then we'll have that conversation.
30:18Yeah, the Lions residue. I don't think you'll forget that anytime soon when you think about Matthew Stafford all time, who is
30:24now like in the discussion for top 10 quarterback of all time, which I just think is a little premature.
30:30I wanted to ask about then that schedule. We'll talk about Jordan Love quickly after this, but I just wanted to ask
30:37when it comes to managing an MVP portfolio, because right now Stafford up 14 to one.
30:42Let's say the Rams have a little bit of hiccups in those first five games.
30:46Those odds start to move and then the schedule starts to get a little lighter at that point.
30:52I'm sure you'll be very vocal about what you're going to do.
30:55But is that kind of the time where maybe you want to start then looking at some of those elite guys when their odds start to shift?
31:03For sure. And that's why we're going so long on these guys and not just saying, oh, Stafford's not going to win next.
31:10Let's go to the next thing. I'm like, we're trying to set up here the trigger that, OK, did you survive that opening stretch?
31:17Did you go four and one, which is kind of par for the course if you're as good as the Rams are?
31:24You might not look like the MVP right now, but you did take an L right off the bat.
31:30They could lose to the Niners and be 0 and 1 right away.
31:33You do not want to pick someone for MVP that you think might lose week one because their odds are only going to go down after that.
31:42So it's the stock market, right? We're playing the odds here.
31:45We're playing the long game. We have a lot of time to add to our portfolio.
31:50We'll be talking futures all season. There's a lot of chances to add guys here.
31:54The right way to bet futures and awards and teams and whatever else is not to make up your mind before you
32:01see everything and be like, this is it. I must be right.
32:04And I will never change my position. Now, this is what our pick is with the odds we have and the board we have right now.
32:12This is our setup. This is the beginning of our portfolio.
32:15And I'm going to like the beginning of our portfolio when we get there.
32:20But yeah, these guys, especially this tier in particular, these guys could win MVP for sure.
32:24I don't think it's the right setup for them this year comparatively.
32:283%. That should mean 33 to 1. These guys are all shorter odds than that.
32:33But 3%, 33 to 1, they might get there later in the year.
32:36We see these odds shift dramatically week to week.
32:39So portfolio management watching these as we go, definitely really important.
32:42Jordan, this is why you are the NFL futures expert, because that's how you build out a portfolio with that kind of approach.
32:49All right. Stafford off to the side. I got to talk to you about Jordan Love, because I would argue that you
32:56might be the biggest supporter of Jordan outside of being a Packers fan, like just as far as where he is in
33:03the rankings overall of quarterbacks, how he affects winning.
33:05And like you had him, I believe, in your top five and seven quarterbacks when we did the quarterback rankings.
33:11So make the case for why Jordan Love won't win MVP this year.
33:15Yeah, I do think the media has come around on Jordan Love finally this year.
33:20And by all the metrics, they should be. He should be in contention.
33:24He's been top three EPA per play the last three years.
33:27That should make you an obvious MVP candidate. Matt LaFleur has coached two MVPs in Aaron Rodgers.
33:32So that should make you an MVP candidate pretty quickly if you're a good quarterback.
33:36Jordan Love has never received a vote for any award.
33:39In his career, reputation matters for this stuff. Sometimes you got to kind of get into the picture to win the picture the next year, right?
33:47You got to win people over a little bit.
33:50And we don't have voter history that says that we've won over.
33:54And then it's the Packers system. It's the ecosystem that I just cannot invest in.
33:58Bottom five offensive line, which we talked about as a huge drop for the Packers typically.
34:03It'll be easily the worst in Love's career. Now, no Josh Jacobs indefinitely.
34:07So you don't have a run game. This is a run heavy offense.
34:11We don't know what Tucker Craft is going to give them yet.
34:14We have fewer receivers there. There's a lot to question about this offense.
34:18There's a lot to question on the defense because no Micah Parsons yet.
34:22We don't know when he'll play and how that's going to go.
34:26You're missing other than Jordan Love. Jacobs, Kraft, and Parsons, I would say, are the next three most important guys in this team.
34:33And we don't know what they're going to be just yet.
34:36And it's obviously a tough schedule in that division.
34:39To me, there's just there's nothing that I could convince me to invest in Packers in any capacity positively right now to start the season.
34:46I'm not crossing them off because I like Love and I like LeFleur, but I cannot invest right now.
34:52Now, here's the counter case. If you can't run the football because Jacobs is out and you can't block, maybe we finally unleash Jordan Love.
34:59Maybe he finally has to do the thing. Here's the problem.
35:03That scenario reminds me of Seattle era Russell Wilson, where I thought he was an MVP.
35:07I thought he did everything for that team. The problem is if you have to be the MVP for your team, if
35:14you are that important, you're not going to be NFL MVP because your team isn't good enough anymore.
35:19This is a team accomplishment. I cannot bet on the Packers right now.
35:23I don't even have them finishing top half of the NFC.
35:27This is not the year to back Jordan Love.

36:43That's the reaction a lot of people are having when they first try Kewpie mayo.
36:47It's the one with the red cap and the little baby on the bottle.
36:51You've probably seen it in the grocery store before.
36:54And if you've ever just walked past it, some people would say that's a huge mistake.
36:59Because this mayo is different. Most mayonnaise uses whole eggs.
37:02Kewpie only uses egg yolks, which gives it this rich umami flavor.
37:05It's smoother, deeper, and almost buttery. Once people try it, they start putting it on everything.
37:10Egg sandwiches, fries, burgers. Some fans even swear by dipping pizza crust in it.
37:14And once you notice it, you start seeing it everywhere.
37:17Chefs use it. Restaurants use it. People who really care about flavor use it.
37:22Never tried it? Grab the bottle with the red cap next time you're at the store.

40:23Football season is on the horizon, so get in while things are hot.
40:27DraftKings, the crown is yours. We're back with Brandon Anderson talking NFL MVP bets for the 2026 NFL season.
40:32And we continue with the rankings to win MVP.
40:35So this is where Brandon is ranking the players that could potentially win MVP, not necessarily ranking who he thinks is the best quarterback in the NFL.
40:43So let's start with tier four. You've called this one almost certainly not, but the odds are just too long.
40:49And you've given each one of these guys, there's three guys in this tier, you've given each one of them either a 1% to 2% chance to win.
40:58And it's strictly because their odds are seemingly just way too long for the position that they're in.
41:03So at number 10, you have Daniel Jones at 150-1.
41:06At number 9, you have Kyler Murray at 50-1.
41:09And Baker Mayfield at 50-1. Leave it to you to sneak Baker Mayfield again somehow in these rankings.
41:14Okay. If anybody asked you, who do you think is a better quarterback?
41:18Nobody's going to put these three guys ahead of the tier that we just talked about.
41:23I think that's a safe assumption to say. But make the case for why you think these three guys have better chance
41:29to win MVP than somebody like Matthew Stafford or Justin Herbert.
41:33Yeah. And I don't even mean telling you that they are more likely to win.
41:37I think the difference is negligible. You heard the percentages.
41:40I had those guys 3%. Here, they're at 1% or 2%.
41:43So by likely to win, Stafford and Herbert are negligibly more likely to win.
41:48I'm telling you, these three are better bets. You are playing these tickets, though, probably not to win.
41:531% or 2%. Look, Stafford was 50-1. These guys are not that.
41:57This is not that from last year. Do not think that this is trying to grab that again.
42:02That was a one-time chance we got. You're playing these tickets, not necessarily expecting them to win.
42:07And you're hoping to get one of these tickets down to 12-1, 15-1.
42:11When things bounce our direction, when the bucks are hot, the Vikings are hot.
42:15And then you got options now because you can hedge no.
42:19You can play the prediction markets. You can add to your position.
42:22You can add to your portfolio. You get options if these tickets are valuable, even if they're not winning tickets.
42:28We know ways to do that now. So just real quick, let me run through the case on why I think there's just a touch of value here.
42:37Daniel Jones, a weird inclusion maybe, but honestly, is there a better MVP case than the one he made last year?
42:43Daniel Jones healthy. Colts 7-1. Jones on pace for 4,400 yards and 37 touchdowns.
42:47Then he kind of gets hurt. He plays through injury.
42:50They go 1-3. Then he's out for the year.
42:53They go 0-5 and miss the playoffs. Pretty good MVP argument you made right there, Daniel Jones.
42:58So now you get the narrative. He comes back from the obvious injury, the Achilles.
43:02You get ready. You're in on the Colts. And then you look at the schedule.
43:07Otherwise, I would have bet this one. Baltimore at Kansas City, Houston to start at.
43:11Okay. Post Achilles, Daniel Jones. No preseason starting with Ravens, Chiefs, and Texans.
43:15150-1 might not be long enough. We might get this one longer and then add it to our position later.
43:21Kyler Murray never has had 4,000 passing yards. Never 27 touchdowns.
43:25The rushing stats are pretty, but not that good in the numbers.
43:28One healthy season in the last five. Never an MVP vote.
43:31So what are we doing here? Well, he's been an MVP near favorite near the midpoint of the season one year before he got hurt.
43:39That's all part of it, too. You got to play the whole thing, not half of the thing.
43:44He's never had this ecosystem, right? Possible top 10 line, top five weapons.
43:48And KOC, before last year when the Vikings literally had no pro quarterbacks on the roster, sorry to my guy, Carson Wentz.
43:55The three years previous, the Vikings were top five in passing touchdowns, even with, you know, Darnold and whoever else is throwing each year.
44:02So could we get Kyler to bump in the touchdowns?
44:05Could we get that season we've been waiting on?
44:08I'd like to find out in fantasy. I'll tell you that much.
44:11I don't know as MVP, but 50-1 seems too long, especially for a team that I think can win the division and contend here.
44:19And this is part of it, too, is the Vikings and the Bucs with Baker Mayfield.
44:23I think are very much in contention for the one seed in the NFC.
44:27I think they can be in that mix. And that's why Baker is top of this three, because that soft NFC South,
44:34again, we're not talking 10 games and then we've seen that with the Bucs.
44:38That's not going to get it done. I think you could get into the one seed mix and we've seen it.
44:45Think back the last few years. These guys haven't won.
44:48But when their teams got into the one seed mix, Sam Darnold got into the conversation.
44:52We all talked about, could Sam Darnold win MVP?
44:55Could Brock Purdy win MVP a few years ago?
44:58Could Jared Goff win MVP? No, they can't win MVP.
45:01But we talk about it and the odds shorten and that gives us value.
45:05So Baker, two years ago, got MVP votes. He had 4,000 yards and 40 scores.
45:09Now that was probably the peak of Baker and the Liam Cohen year, and we're probably not going to do that again.
45:16So that's an easy counter case. But Baker and Kyler, we know we're going to see MVP, right?
45:21We're going to see those run around, scramble, moxie, make the big play.
45:25We're also going to see the terrible, oh my gosh, we cannot give that dude MVP a play.
45:31We're getting both of those with these guys. I just think that there's value here at the ticket number.
45:36And Baker is at the top because I like the Bucs best comparatively of the three.
45:41Yeah, of the three, one of your go-to phrases that I think about when he is, do the thing.
45:47Baker has done the thing. It's just not necessarily the rest of the team kind of coalesced with him on that front.
45:54And I think there is still like a little bit of a media darling thing with Baker of like, oh, he's so
46:00tough and so competitive, like that kind of thing.
46:03So it makes sense for probably why you have Baker ranked first of that tier at eighth with a one to 2% chance to win.
46:10All right, we're moving up to tier three. This is when we're going to start getting into some of the heavyweights.
46:17When you've called tier three, I'm telling you they could really win this thing.
46:21And you have these two candidates anywhere between four and 6% at number seven.
46:25Brock Purdy at 20 to one and number six.
46:28Here we go. Dak Prescott at 14 to one.
46:30So for anybody who's been following your MV positions, like the bets that you've been making like over the years, I don't
46:37think people would be too surprised because again, you're probably a little bit more higher on Dak Prescott as far as like his overall rankings.
46:45And I mean, last year you bet Brock Purdy to win MVP.
46:48So let's talk about Purdy first. Why do you think Brock Purdy is a decent chance to win the MVP at 20 to one?
46:55Yeah, I've bet Brock Purdy more than once. I had the 50 to one ticket on Brock Purdy the year that I
47:02watched that game in December against the Ravens and saw my money slipping between my fingers.
47:07Perhaps that's why Lamar Jackson is never my favorite.
47:09Brock Purdy finished fourth MVP voting that year. 4,300 yards, 31 scores, 12 and four record.
47:14It's good that he could finish fourth before because it does mean you're on the radar.
47:19Now we've talked about these guys got to like kind of get into the picture.
47:24He's been in the picture already and stats wise, touchdown rate 7% or better all but one season for Purdy.
47:30That is a great number. I know you don't think about that number a lot.
47:34I'm telling you, 3, 4, 5% is pretty standard.
47:37Seven is high. You could easily spike to 40 touchdowns, 45, 50 even in play in a big year there with a spike.
47:44And how about some narrative boosts? We know with all the Niners legacy guys, as we've called them, you're going to miss Trent Williams a couple of games.
47:52You're going to miss Mike Evans for five. Oh, McCaffrey's out for three.
47:56Oh, Nick Bosa's hurt again. What if Brock Purdy is the glue that's holding everything together there?
48:01What if he's the guy that sort of is the one consistent thing there and it's him and Kyle against the world?
48:08I think that's an easy narrative to sell. I wouldn't have really thought of Brock Purdy in this mix.
48:13I know probably listeners don't think that as well, but it's not the worst schedule for the Niners.
48:19They finished third last year, so they get a little help there as well.
48:23Again, I have them in the mix for the one seat in the NFC.
48:27I really have eight teams in the mix. They're all pretty close to each other and we've seen Purdy in the mix before.
48:34So I think he is a more likely than you'd think candidate.
48:38And really for these two guys, I'm not telling you they're going to win.
48:42I don't think they're the most likely to win.
48:45I think these prices are actually pretty okay. And you're not going to hear that from me.
48:50I think most prices are not okay. I think if you want to bet one of these guys, I can give you
48:56my blessing and I'm fine with that. Okay. So both Purdy and Prescott looking at the rest of the rankings, I'm not
49:03going to unveil the rest of them yet, but I think it is worth mentioning.
49:07Dak is the top NFC candidate at this point.
49:10After everything we've been through, you know, the unsolicited Dak picks that I have just suffered through for years.
49:16Make the case for Dak because I still, again, maybe I'm just too close to the source material.
49:21I feel like everything has to go right for him to win and that the odds at 14 to one is what concerns me.
49:28Yeah. And I think, I think you just made the case and the anti-case.
49:32I think you summed it up. Well, I'm into the Cowboys.
49:36We've talked about my interest in them. We had them on multiple different awards, coach, assistant coach.
49:41Look, both sides of the ball I'm interested in.
49:44I don't know if this offense can be a top three offense.
49:47I've seen that out there from predictions. We see them six, seventh, eighth.
49:51We've seen Dak in that range among quarterbacks. Can they get to one more level there?
49:56Can they push it a little further? Can the defense get to any level?
50:00Can they get out of the cellar? Yes. We think they'll get out of the cellar, but can Christian Parker's unit get to league average at least?
50:08Can they get to be better? Because again, team award, you got to win some games.
50:13And so look in the NFC, I don't have any team in the NFC projected at 11 wins right now.
50:19And part of that is because my rankings kind of crunched together.
50:23We, you know, you get outlier seasons and you can't win half a game.
50:27You get a whole win or not. So someone's going to win 11, 12, 13 games.
50:32I'm sure. But I have Dallas right in the mix with everyone else.
50:35It's a tough schedule. Week three through seven Ravens, Texans, Bucks, Packers, Eagles, starting at Thanksgiving, Eagles, Seahawks, Rams, Jaguars.
50:41Now those could be MVP showcases, but we're already watching the Cowboys.
50:45They're on our TVs every week. And are those MVP showcases or are they just voters waiting for Dak to mess it up again?
50:52Because I think that's kind of the story with Dak Prescott and also waiting for this defense to give up five touchdowns
50:59and cost you a couple of wins. And that matters for MVP as well.
51:03So EPA, great. Touchdown percentage, great. The stats are all there.
51:06The weapons are there. I love it. I'm pretty okay with Purdy and Dak at these prices.
51:11I think that they're in play. I just think there are better plays out there.
51:16Yeah, and Dak is just one of those things where he'll go toe-to-toe with the Packers.
51:21I think that was his best game last year as far as how he looked on the field statistically.
51:26But then you'll see this cupcake matchup against the Cardinals or the Vikings in the latter stages of the year where it
51:33was just a complete mess and they just get rolled.
51:36And you can attribute it to the defense, but there's just sometimes, as you say, you got to do the thing and
51:43you got to do it for longer than one week.
51:46All right. So Brock Purdy, Dak Prescott, you give each of these guys a 46% chance.
51:50Let's now move into the top five. Tier two, no bets right now, but they can always win it.
51:56And at number five, runner up from last year, Drake May at 11 to one.
52:01Number four, Josh Allen at plus 650. And number three, Joe Burrow.
52:04Okay. So we're at the familiar names now. Um, let's start with Drake May because I mean, based on your criteria, you
52:11probably thought that he should have won MVP last year.
52:14And now from a personnel standpoint, we're getting AJ Brown, Romeo Dobbs.
52:17It feels like the arrow is still pointing up for Drake though.
52:21So make the case or maybe make the case against.
52:24Yeah. I mean, the case for, you just made it pretty well.
52:28AJ Brown, Romeo Dobbs. He looked great last year.
52:30He would have been my MVP 14 win team.
52:33He's tops in all the metrics and they were shorthanded last year.
52:37He was carrying this offense. And now you get a lot of help with these guys coming in.
52:42This seems like the logical next step. You're almost there.
52:45Now you go win MVP. It's not what happens historically.
52:48That is not usually how things go. Growth is not always linear history.
52:52History says you usually take a step back, not the step up next year.
52:56He'll have a league in completion percentage last year and yards per attempt over 6% touchdowns.
53:01Those numbers don't just automatically keep going up the next year.
53:04They usually go the other direction. That's usually how numbers go is back towards the middle.
53:09So there's a lot of signal here for Patriots regression.
53:12Drake some, but just the rest of the team as well.
53:15I have them closer to 10 wins, which again, it's not so terrible.
53:19I have them as a division leader, but again, with a schedule at Seattle, first night of the season, you're the underdog.
53:26You can't bet on the MVP. If you think you might start out 0-1, we saw Drake may play Seattle's defense.
53:32It did not make a great MVP case for him.
53:35So I don't know that I can buy that ticket right now.
53:39This ticket will already go up like a couple hundred in price, just waiting one football game into the season in all likelihood.
53:46Then Steelers at Jacksonville at Buffalo. It's a daunting stretch.
53:49That's three road games. That's a lot of tough defenses in there.
53:52You might be two and two. You might be worse than that.
53:56So now look, here's the flip side. You might be four and oh.
54:00And if you beat those teams, we lost our chance.
54:03We're not getting this ticket anymore because if you look that good and you're Drake may early, then you're going to probably be the MVP favorite.
54:10Well, we can't bet everyone. There's cases for, there's cases against at the number he's at right now.
54:16I'm giving that he's in the mix here. Just not my pick.
54:19Yeah. And the price is just, I think, where we're at right now.
54:23Let's wait to see what happens against Seattle. And then we can react accordingly from there.
54:28Josh Allen. We know he can win it. We've seen him win it.
54:32Some people may not have agreed the fact that he won it.
54:36I mean, all pro voters probably would be the first people I'd point to.
54:40But is the consensus favorite? Doesn't matter where you look.
54:43Anywhere between plus 550, plus 650. We know he can win it.
54:46But is it just as simple as the odds for why we're not betting or why you even have him outside the top three?
54:54Yeah, he's finished top three, four to the last six seasons.
54:57And he was top five in another one. He's always near the top in EPA per play.
55:02He's my number one quarterback. Obviously, Josh Allen can win MVP.
55:05I would argue there is no more valuable player to his team than Josh Allen.
55:10So obviously, you have to consider him. The stats have sneakily fallen off a little bit.
55:15Since Joe Brady took over, because they've gotten so run heavy, he's down about 100 pass attempts a year.
55:20That is a lot of possible stats for you.
55:23And he's been more efficient, but he's dropped under 30 passing touchdowns in three straight as well.
55:28So the stats aren't necessarily this ironclad case for him.
55:31And again, team recognition. And I am not buying the Bills team this year.
55:35I said earlier, the Russell Wilson Seattle thing. I think Josh Allen is the bullseye for that this year.
55:41And that is not a compliment to the Buffalo Bills.
55:44Not great passing weapons. They're too run heavy. I don't have faith in this defense.
55:49We talked about that or in this new coaching staff.
55:52And again, with the schedule at Houston week one, you might be an Owen one to start out short week home Thursday
55:58night to debut the new stadium against the Lions.
56:01You never know how those emotional home debuts go in a new stadium.
56:05Then Chargers Patriots at the Rams. You might be two and three after that stretch.
56:09Like you might be losing games right off the bat here.
56:13And again, yeah, might be Superman in your way into winning all those games too.
56:17But to me, this defense, if it is worse, maybe the argument is okay, great.
56:22Now Allen has to put the cape on, right?
56:24And go play Superman. Now he has to go do the thing and get the job done.
56:29We don't need the thing with Josh Allen. We already know he's the thing.
56:34We just need wins. We need Buffalo to win.
56:36And I can't get there with the wins, especially I can't get there as the favorite with that schedule starting out.
56:43Absolute no bet with this opening schedule. But you might always have to add Josh Allen later.
56:48It's Josh Allen after all. Well, I think the thing with Allen that concerns me is he's just been such an Ironman
56:54and just been able to push through anything. It seems like he never gets hurt.
56:59But the way that they've been utilizing him over the last couple of years, it's like the wear and tear feels like
57:05eventually it's going to have to catch up to him.
57:08It may not be this year, but just that's the thing for me where I always get a little worried about betting on somebody like Josh Allen.
57:16But Joe Burrow, somebody again, coming off of his own injury history here.
57:20Um, you haven't really been high on Joe Burrow from an MVP standpoint in recent years.
57:25This actually might be the highest that I think you've ever ranked him.
57:29Um, and a lot of people are pointing to like, this is the year they put their, all their eggs in one
57:36basket here, but at three at this price, would you call this like a vote of confidence in Burrow?
57:41Like, like, or is this kind of like, uh, I still can't get there with Burrow.
57:46Yeah. I think it's a little bit of column A and column B there.
57:50Normally, I think the last couple of years, I said earlier, Justin Herbert is the worst bet you can make in MVP
57:57odds right now to start the season. I think that's been my Joe Burrow position for the last couple of years.
58:03So up in third is a big jump forward for him.
58:06I wanted this to be the pick. I really thought if you asked me a couple of weeks ago, I think I
58:13would have expected this to be my guy this year.
58:16This is where I thought we're going because I like so many little things about what we're doing.
58:21The offensive line might be fine. Not terrible this year.
58:24They found a run game. Now the coaching, the scheme, they're doing things now.
58:29They're actually like playing under center and running motion and trying some stuff to give some easy buttons there.
58:34I like what we're doing. It's a long ways to go.
58:38And we are fighting uphill battle. And I didn't mention the defense for a reason because the defense can't get much worse,
58:44but I'm not sure it's gotten a whole lot better either.
58:48So there's no question about the case for Burrow himself.
58:51The stats, the metrics, it's all there. When he's been healthy, even in the bad ecosystem, top five EPA, 4,500 yards, 40
58:57scores, like all that will make the case for itself.
59:00I'm not worried about the injuries. I think that has been fluky stuff.
59:04I don't think he's injury prone, but he's third favorite here.
59:07So that means that all those things we just talked about, all that optimism, it's already priced in.
59:13So we don't have much value there. I know you're excited about all those things.
59:17I am too, but so are the books. They're already pricing it in.
59:21And again, with a schedule, Tampa, Houston, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville will start the season.
59:25Joe Burrow and the Bengals have struggled in September.
59:28We've talked about the continuity on the line. Hopefully a better start there.
59:32But I just think later on is going to be a chance.
59:35You can't buy Burrow 10 to 1. I will say though, if I have to add somebody to my position later in
59:42the year, I think Joe Burrow is the most likely guy I will look to add because starting week 11 forward, here
59:48are some of the teams on the schedule. This isn't in order.
59:52But week 11 forward, home stretch, November, December football, Washington, New Orleans, Cleveland, Carolina, and Cleveland again.
59:57Oh baby. If we can get through the early stretch, could we get to that at like, I don't know what the math is.
60:04Maybe can you be seven and three and then go perfect down the stretch and pile up the stats on those teams?
60:11Now we're talking, but I don't need you at 10 to 1 right now.
60:15I can get you at a better price later on.
60:18So I think Joe Burrow actually belongs in the mix this year, but you shouldn't bet him at 10 to 1, not right now.
60:25Okay. So that is a tier two, Drake May, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow giving each one of these guys a 6% chance depending on the quarterback.
60:33But let's now move to tier one. These are the slam dunk picks, or at least the way you feel coming into the season.
60:40You've called this one. Sometimes it's obvious, but sometimes the boring answer is the right one.
60:45And at number two, you have Lamar Jackson at 11 to 1 and number one, Patrick Mahomes.
60:50What a surprise at 17 to 1. All right.
60:53So after all this discussion, we just come down to the last two guys.
60:57Like if you take Josh Allen out of the equation, it's basically Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson who've won MVP here.
61:03Let's just start with Lamar then. Like again, very broken down last year.
61:07The running obviously declined, but new offense, new scheme.
61:10Make the case for Lamar again. Yeah. I mean, look for, for both of these guys, I know it feels boring, but
61:17I like my boring tickets to cash sometimes. Remember voters love repeat MVPs.
61:2114 of our last 19 MVPs have been to five guys and sorry to Aaron Rogers.
61:25These are the only two of those five guys that are still playing actual NFL quarterback.
61:30So I know you want the long shot. You want the sexy ticket.
61:34We want winners. So I think these are the winners this year.
61:38And these are obviously two of my top three, four quarterbacks in the league.
61:42Lamar Jackson last year at this time, plus five 50 11 to one is literally double.
61:47We're getting double the price on Lamar Jackson. Patrick Mahomes was plus 700 and that was a little bit long for him.
61:53We're getting 17 to one right now. We're getting crazy value in a buy low spot on guys.
61:59I think everyone has given up on a far too early.
62:02And yes, if you're kind of parsing between the lines, I'm betting both of these guys.
62:07My MVP choice this year is both of these two to start out because we get at 11 to one Lamar and
62:1317 to one Patrick Mahomes, both guys for combined plus six 20.
62:17That is cheaper than a Josh Allen ticket. And I get two for the price of one and I prefer these two anyway.
62:24So Lamar Jackson, here's the case. Healthy for four seasons in the NFL.
62:28Well, MVP two of those four runner up in another one and everyone thinks they should have won that year.
62:34So possibly three of the four. You get a healthy season.
62:37You get at least a 50 50 shot at MVP, according to history, probably better.
62:41So let's help with the math there. Let's say you don't think he's going to be healthy.
62:47Maybe he's only 75% chance to an MVP, but he's 50 50.
62:50If he is healthy, great. 37 and a half chance to win MVP.
62:54If he does that, let's say you think he's really not likely to be healthy.
62:59He's only 40% to be healthy for the season.
63:01You're still at 20% to an MVP, which is where I have this hat.
63:05And I think that 40% is very low. So look, last year was not an MVP year for Lamar Jackson, but I
63:12think everything that went wrong last year, if you look at the metrics, the low stats, the things that did not go
63:19well, direct comparison, direct explanation by all the leg injuries that he had.
63:23They stopped doing design runs. They stopped with the scrambling.
63:26He just couldn't move right last year. And maybe it's just over.
63:29Maybe it's so over for Lamar. That's the obvious downside of this pick.
63:33I can't do that after one year. You guys get hurt.
63:36Guys have terrible seasons and then come back, you know, the next year and look just fine.
63:41We had a whole off season. Now the stats with Lamar, here's the thing.
63:46He doesn't have high volume and the passing stats are now as the best for better and for worse.
63:51Stats don't really matter with Lamar. Like we just kind of throw them out.
63:56I think the running part comes in and there's, there's a bit of aura about Lamar.
64:00It drives me crazy as a fan, as you know, we've talked about for years, but it helps us when we have the tickets.
64:08So the stats don't necessarily need to be there.
64:10There's a lot of hidden value stuff. You get a lot of hidden metrics that can be in his case.
64:16And then again, team award. This is my number two projected team is a positive regression team, improving offensive line, better, healthier defense.
64:23And I think a new, better scheme. And maybe you're worried that it's new coaching.
64:28You shouldn't be. Lamar Jackson in his career has had an offensive coordinator brand new twice.
64:32Guess what happened in those two years? He won MVP.
64:35Worked out pretty well. It turns out to bring a new play caller and give him a fancy toy from Lamar Jackson.
64:42And it's an obvious, obvious narrative. You missed the playoffs.
64:45You had the injury. Everyone wrote you off, but you didn't write back.
64:49And here you are and you're ready. And you're playing MVP ball again.
64:53And we've done scheduling everyone else. Here's Baltimore's schedule.
64:56Colts, Saints, Cowboys, Titans, Falcons, Browns. That is not the bad schedule we've talked about for some of these other teams.
65:02That's five and one. That's six and oh. That is you're the MVP favorite now, mid-October.
65:07There's no top half of the league defense in that mix.
65:10That is a really soft, good start for your Baltimore Ravens because they didn't do well last year and got a nice, easier schedule now.
65:17So I think Lamar Jackson should be the betting favorite.
65:20I understand health and age decline. That's the concern.
65:23But if that's my only concern, I can live with that.
65:26We're getting this at 11 to one. I'm putting these guys both at least at 20%.
65:31That should make them plus 400 max. And we're getting a huge bargain here.
65:35Okay. So then Lamar aside then, because you brought up a couple of good points about Lamar, but I think they also
65:42apply to Patrick Mahomes, like getting hurt, missing the playoffs, coming back here.
65:46Like, I don't think you need to explain to anybody who's listening to like why Patrick Mahomes is a good quarterback.
65:52We all know we've seen the, we've seen the tape, but the 17 to one odds here, that to me feels like
65:59that has to be the biggest indicator of why we have him here at the top, aside from talent and narrative and situation.
66:06Am I wrong on that? No, absolutely. Betting is all about pricing.
66:09And I think we're going to look back in shock that in the prime of Patrick Mahomes career, the best quarterback of
66:16the era we had on price outside the top five and MVP.
66:20We haven't priced in 11th at one major sports book right now, 11th for MVP.
66:24I think that's crazy. And look, the case against Mahomes is very apparent.
66:28Torn ACL. We haven't seen him be on the preseason.
66:31He's not finished top five MVP five years in a row.
66:34He's not been a top seven DVO offense during that stretch.
66:37He's been 11th in EPA per play, not even in the top 10 overall.
66:42It might just be over. I'm going to give another shot here because look at those three years.
66:47What's happening? Why is it gone badly? I don't think anyone is blaming it all on Patrick's shoulders.
66:52So what else? The receivers. They're getting slowly worse and continuing to fail.
66:56Spoiler, not my case for the MVP. Still not going the right direction there.
67:01But what else? The offensive line got a lot worse.
67:04I like the offensive line a lot more this year.
67:07The run game disappeared. Kenneth Walker. Hello. Welcome to the explosives.
67:10And what you're adding with that line is that a better, more balanced offense.
67:14And it just happens to be that these three years were the Matt Nagy years.
67:19And I know that Andy Reid's still calling the plays, but Matt's making the schemes and designing things.
67:24And so I don't know how much of that happens to revert back to Eric Biennemi.
67:29But I know we have Eric Biennemi for four years or five years with Patrick Mahomes and had probably the best five-year
67:35quarterback stretch in history with him there. I feel better about that than I have with Matt Nagy turns me into the eighth best quarterback, Patrick Mahomes era.
67:44So look, I don't love the weapons. Last time Mahomes was MVP, here was the team around him.
67:49Juju Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdez-Scantling. That was the receivers and Pacheco and McKinnon.
67:53And yes, Travis Kelsey had a little more gas in the tank then, but that is not an all-star cast of people.
68:00So I'm in on the Chiefs. I didn't expect this this year.
68:03This ended up being my number one overall projected team.
68:06It's a team award. It's an obvious regression team.
68:09Last year, the Chiefs went one and nine, one and nine in one score games.
68:13Patrick Mahomes, this is a guy that before last year is 43 and 17 in one score games.
68:19For every other human in the world, one score games are 50-50 and you regress to the mean.
68:24Patrick Mahomes regresses to Patrick Mahomes. Like one and nine goes nine and one most years.
68:29And guess what? When you win those games, you win MVPs because that's your MVP case right there on the field.
68:35Here's a crazy stat I saw, I think, from Bill Barnwell.
68:39Since 1990, we have 117 teams that finished the season somewhere between plus three and plus five in scoring margin.
68:45Last year's Chiefs are one of them. They finished six and 11.
68:48They are the worst record of all 117 teams like that.
68:52Do you know who the best one is? It's the Chiefs the year before at 15 and two.
68:57That's basically telling us the last two years, the Chiefs were qualitatively pretty much the same team.
69:02The difference is they went six and 11 last year and now we get the ginormous discount.
69:07So it's a top 10 offense. It's a top 10 defense.
69:10You got a top coaching staff. You know the special teams are going to be good.
69:15I like the schedule to start. Home for Denver Monday night.
69:19That's a good spot to come back from homes.
69:21Then Colts, Dolphins, Raiders, and early bye. Great. 4-0.
69:24Let's settle in. We're not getting this cheap ticket again.
69:27Not this year. Maybe not ever again. There are tough stretches.
69:30Week 6 through 8, you play Chargers, Seahawks, Denver.
69:33Week 12 through 17, home stretch. At Buffalo, at Rams, at Bengals.
69:37That is a rough three-week road trip. Then you got Patriots, 49ers, Chargers.
69:40Look, MVP is going to have to win some games.
69:43And if I have to win some of those games, I'd rather have Patrick Holmes out there to win some of those games.
69:50And it just happens that we'll be watching. And let's read that stretch again with quarterback names.
69:55Weeks 12 to 17, Josh Allen, Matt Stafford, Joe Burrow, Drake May, Brock Purdy, and Justin Herbert.
70:01Guess what? Head-to-head MVP showdown every week. And guess which guy I want my money on in that spot?
70:06So you want narrative. How much more narrative can you get?
70:10Returning from ACL, you missed the playoffs the first time.
70:13You faced really his first real adversity in his NFL career.
70:16And now you're back. I got no help around me.
70:19I got no weapons. Doesn't matter. I'm doing it all myself.
70:22You're going to get the whole, like, he's still got it.
70:25He's back. The Steph Curry thing. I think we get the, can you believe Patrick Mahomes has only two MVPs?
70:31After all of this, as good as they are, only two MVPs.
70:35I think we are going to look back and think this is a crazy, crazy number.
70:4017 to 1. It's 11th in odds at one major book.
70:43That is equal in odds to Caleb Williams and Brock Purdy.
70:46Don't insult me. What are we doing? This price is not going to be out there again.
70:52And again, I'm betting both the guys. Mahomes, 17 to 1.
70:55Lamar, 11 to 1. Those are my top two MVP picks outright.
70:58I get them both on my top two teams outright.
71:01We get them combined plus 620 implied under 14%.
71:04I have them over 40%. So not quite these two against the field, but that's the beauty of it.
71:10We can add to our position. We're not even really spending that high of a ticket here.
71:15We can add some guys later. We're getting this cheaper than Josh Allen.
71:19Let everyone else talk yourself into Herbert and Burrow and Dak.
71:22Enjoy it and get your short prices there. I'm going to take the actual most valuable players in the league.
71:28Patrick Mahomes, 17 to 1. Lamar Jackson, 11 to 1.
71:31Perhaps you've heard of him. All right. Let's wrap this up.

74:05Think about it. When it comes to your own food, you can walk into a restaurant, see what's being made, and know exactly what you're getting.
74:13But with dog food, most brands keep that completely hidden.
74:16Just Food for Dogs does the opposite. They've built their entire brand around open kitchens.
74:20You can actually walk in and watch them prepare your dog's meals with real human-grade ingredients, like chicken, beef, carrots, and peas,
74:27cooked right there in front of you. No mystery, no behind-the-scenes you're not allowed to see.
74:32That kind of transparency is rare in the pet food world.
74:35And it's a big reason they've become the number one vet-recommended fresh dog food, earning trust from pet parents who want to feel confident in what they're feeding.
74:43When a brand is willing to show you exactly how your dog's food is made, it says a lot about the care,
74:50quality, and standards behind every meal they produce. Nothing to hide.
